Now, I was very excited to get Jana on my podcast because she talks about pelvic floor issues.
She's a specialist in that. She at some point in her life was dealing with a lot of different kind of issues,
eventually found out it was all how to do with pelvic floor, a pelvic floor problem.
She started doing Pilates. It cured everything. She talks about her whole journey and how she got into it.
And then she became like, you know, Pilates became her life and, you know, helping people with their
pelvic floor issues became her life. She created something called the Cooch Ball. We're going to
talk about that a lot. I'm about to get my Cooch Ball. I can't wait to get it because I do have
pelvic floor issues. I talk about mine. She talks about like the tight pelvic floor issues.
and what the symptoms are, you know, versus loose pelvic floor and what those issues are.
She talks about what to do, what not to do, how breath is super important.
She gives so much like interesting information I could have talked to her for like another
hour because this is like stuff that I need, you know?
That's why I had her on.
But I'm assuming if I needed and I'm having these issues, other people are too.
I mean, listen, pelvic floor issues show up for women in a certain way, but they show up as
ED and men.
So all you guys listening, listen up to Jana.
She's got some great tips besides using her ball.
Like I said, just breathing the right way is going to help in a lot of issues.
But she created this cooch ball, which I'm excited to get.
The links to everything will be in the description.
But anyway, I'm going to get right to it and be right back on with Jana Danielson.
Hi, Jana Danielson.
Welcome to the strictly anonymous podcast.
How are you today?
I'm doing great.
How are you?
I'm good.
Listen, I was excited to talk to you because I've been dying to talk to someone about
pelvic floor dysfunction and issues for a while because I feel like my pelvic floor has changed
over time. We are going to discuss that. You're also, you, you're a pelvic floor and perimenopause
specialist. You're also like somebody that, like, midlife changed and got, like, really into
Pilates and then not only started doing it, but, like, turned it into your whole career,
huge business, right? Like, you're not just a Pilates instructor anymore.
No, you know what?
It was, I call it my pain journey because when I was 21 years old, I was on 11 different
medications and doctors could not figure out what started as gut pain four years before
then was full on joint pain, migraine headaches, and at 21 years old, not having any
babies at that point, being newly engaged, I had major pelvic floor.
function. I was a fitness instructor back then already.
Oh, okay.
I don't know if you remember step classes, rebucked fly.
Like I was into all of those kinds of things, right?
And I was, I was coughing and sneezing and I was leaking.
And with my new fiance, we would have sex and I would have terrible pelvic floor pain.
And I only thought that pelvic floor stuff was important for women that just had a baby or were in menopause.
And here I was at 21 years old, making sure I was wearing black leggings to teach in case I sneezed and peed a little bit.
I didn't want my, you know, the people in my class to know that this was happening to me.
And so I gained this curiosity around what is my body not able to do?
Why am I having to be on these 11 medications?
How is it impacting all of these factors in my body and overall my quality of life?
And that's when I found Pilates and that's when like literally four months after my first Pilates class, I was off all 11 medications.
My doctor in the meantime told me that she believed I was seeking attention that the pain was in my head and basically like gas lit me.
And so I felt like I was, I mean, we hear so many of those stories, right?
Especially for women.
You're just, it's all in your head.
Here's some Prozac kind of thing.
Yeah, that was like the correct fact.
Yeah.
Exactly.
Exactly.
Yeah.
So Pilates, four months of Pilates, and all of a sudden my joint pain was gone, my headaches were gone, my gut pain was gone, my body started changing, and I stopped leaking.
And I really started to enjoy sex again.
And I was just like, what just happened here, right?
Because you trust the white coats and the stethoscopes, but yet there was none of that involved in my healing.
And that's where my passion for helping.
Helping other women that have fallen through the cracks in traditional, you know, health came to be like my purpose on this planet.
And pelvic floor health in particular was something that became very important to me because at that point, even now, like, no one's, no one's talking about this.
As women, we want to stay muted.
Men have pelvic floors too.
I know we're going to talk about that.
A lot of men think just because they are unable to give birth, they just don't have this part of their, this isn't part of their anatomy.
and that is not true.
So we're going to touch on.
There's kegles for men for a reason, right?
Like, I didn't know about that, but that exists.
Well, that exists.
And we're going to actually, that's, we're going to debunk that myth today.
And I'm going to help you and your audience understand why the kegill actually might be making
your pelvic floor issues worse.
Well, that's what I was going to, you know, because you have this ball that you created.
Yeah, it's called the cooch ball.
Oh, the cooch ball.
Yeah.
And you sent in, you're going to send it.
me, right? It should be, yeah, it should, it should be on its way. You should be getting it any time now.
Yeah, and I was really excited, but I was like, you know, I just want to make sure because I felt
like I was having these weird pelvic floor issues, but it wasn't like the more common thing,
which is, oh, a loose pelvic floor, right? Someone that's leaking and stuff. There is something
called a tight pelvic floor. And so there can be different things. And you can, like, if I started
to do kegles, that would probably be bad for me if I have a tight one, right? Because like that would just
make it tighter, right? So I think you really have to like figure out.
how to be diagnosed or figure out what the issue is.
But I had a quick question.
With your story, you're super young, you go do Pilates, you have this miracle cure.
Like, how did you put it together that it was all pelvic floor issues?
Like, how did you even put that together?
Because you just kind of like went to Pilates and it solved everything.
But how did you like, you know, hone it down to figure out that that's what it was all coming from?
You know, what I learned from Pilates and then that's what created this.
like I said, curiosity to become a master instructor and open my studio was that what you're taught in Pilates is that the body is systems of systems, right?
We've been conditioned in the Western world to see our body as pieces.
You have a headache, take over the counter pain medication to get rid of that headache.
But we don't go to one step further.
Like, what is causing this headache?
Am I dehydrated?
Do I have low potassium?
Is my posture, you know, my forward rounded posture?
Like we don't ask those questions because I believe that big pharma has educated us to just be adverse to pain.
We don't want to experience any pain in our body, but yet pain is a communication tool.
That's simply what it is.
Yeah.
So when you get reconnected to your body, and that's what Pilates did.
Like I learned how to breathe properly, which is key.
And we'll talk about that because the breath, breathing diaphragmatically with our main muscle of respiration, this muscle is like a, it's like an open umbrella.
sits in the crest of our rib cage.
And especially as young women, when we are in our teen years and our young adult years,
like, what are we doing?
We're wearing tight clothes.
We're wearing belts.
We're snatching our waist.
We want this look about us.
And that's fine.
I mean, I'm all about a snatched waist.
However, we need to understand that that is putting unnecessary stress and tension on the
pelvic floor because when we're narrowing our waist, the contents of the,
that our organs, our blood, our limbs, our fascia, it has to go, it has to go in one direction,
either up or down.
And usually it goes down.
So we have all of this unnecessary interadominal pressure going down on the pelvic floor,
which creates more of an issue.
And so as I started doing Pilates, I started learning proper posture, proper breathing,
proper alignment.
And believe it or not, these things that are so simple were the fundamental reason that
I started healing because now my pelvic floor was being supported by my bones.
I wasn't in this.
When I was in pain, I was in pain.
And when you're in pain, you protect.
So I had this forward rounded posture.
I was hiding my heart because I didn't feel confident.
I was making myself be small because being big and, you know, confidence meant that I was
good. I was exposing my body and I was very, my body was shaming me. I was very frustrated with her
because of how she was not functioning. Right, right. So it was like a domino effect, but it was only
making all matters worse. Absolutely. Let's talk about two things that I love. I love the summer.
I'm like obsessed with the hot weather. And I love when my guy goes down on me. Now,
I don't know if you listened to my episode with Erica the other day, The Noddy Confessions
episode, I talked about how my booty club guy, when he went down to me the first time, I was like,
what the fuck is he doing?
Because he had so many moves in his back pocket that I had never experienced before.
I was like, what did he take a course or something?
Well, let me tell you, there is a course on how to go down on a girl.
And it is at beducated.com.

meant that I was exposing my body and I was very, my body was shaming me.
I was very frustrated with her because of how she was not functioning.
Right, right.
So it was like a domino effect, but it was only making all matters worse.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
And I think a lot of people don't understand that.
I mean, I've had scoliosis on the base of my spine since I was younger.
And as I've gotten older, I start to realize this is causing me more problems than it ever did.
And, you know, and it's something that you have to tend to.
I feel like at the end of this, you're going to finally get me to the Pilateo Studios because
I've been a big working out person all my life, like working out with weights before any
girls did back in circa 1990.
But I have always felt like, you know, as I've gotten older, especially now that I'm in my
50s, I feel like probably Pilates is what I need.
with what I'm dealing with now, you know, especially because of my pelvic floor issues that I think
I'm having, scoliosis and everything. And you say it's like, you know, bringing your body into one.
It's one thing to work out with weights and stuff. But it is not doing what Pilates does, which is
hitting a million other muscles, right? And helping you with the posture and the breath and all
that stuff, which I think is, of course, super important.
It is really important. And, you know, I like for me, I, I, too, I'm in my 50s. And I would say,
Ham down, I am way more healthier in shape at 51 that I was at 21.
And the beautiful marriage basically between, because at age 30, women start losing 1% of their
muscle mass per year.
Right.
And when we hit our 70s and 80s, it could be of as much as 5% muscle loss.
So we still do need the weight bearing.
But where the Pilates, where Pilates and weight training really amplify each other is exactly
what you said, the movement in our joints, the ability for our posture to be upright.
Like, there are so many benefits when you bring the two of those together that it actually,
I mean, we can't physically turn back the hands of time, but you can actually notice a body.
I believe, I mean, I have a trained Pilates eye.
So I can tell the women that are doing Pilates because they just carry themselves differently.
Yeah, yeah, no.
I've looked into it so many times and I don't know why I haven't.
pulled the trigger, but it's always something that in my mind, I'm like, this is, this is very much
needed now more than ever, you know what I mean? Especially as you get older, things could get worse
over time, you know? And like I said, I think you're going to convert me. But let's go back to all,
like, for other people who are maybe listening because they have some sort of pelvic, like issues.
Like, how do they show up for women and how do they show up for men? Yeah. Okay. So let's, I, and you alluded to
it earlier. So, so many people think that the coughing, sneezing, laughing, and leaking issue
is, oh, my pelvic floor is not strong enough. I have a weak pelvic floor. Well, actually,
in a lot of those cases, the pelvic floor is too tight. There's too much tension. So imagine, like a,
imagine the number line on one end of the number line is hypertonic. So it's a, it means there's,
or, you know, you eat sugar and you're hyper, right?
There's too much activity.
Well, our muscles are like that too.
So a hypertonic pelvic floor means there's too much tension.
And we create tension in the pelvic floor.
Yes, from trauma, yes, from childbirth, yes, from old sports injuries,
flips and falls, the shoes we've worn, all those kinds of things.
But there was a study done a few years ago that there was a group of women that were watching.
They had them watch like a, not a blood and gore horror show, but like a scary show.
And they had different sensors on their body to be able to identify where were these women holding their stress as they were watching this show?
And hands down, the pelvic floor lit up first and it stayed lit up way beyond when the movie ended.
And so it was interesting because you would think that it would be like maybe in your neck or shoulders, like you're scary or you're scared to you kind of jack your shoulders up or you might.
You know, you might, your breath might get shallow or, you know, you pull the covers up over your eyes.
But the pelvic floor truly is like, it's a sponge of our emotions.
And so we know that incontinence is one of the main pelvic floor dysfunction symptoms.
And we also know that women believe that that's just a part of aging because the incontinence product industry,
by the end of next year, it's going to top $20 billion.
And that blows my mind because.
We also know through a study done by Dr. Bruce Crawford that 90% of pelvic floor dysfunction is actually not a medical issue.
It is a fitness issue.
It is breathing.
It is posture.
And it is blood flow.
And so, you know, I say that to those women out there that are like, my pelvic floor is too weak.
I'm going to kegel and kegill and kegill.
Oh, geez, my friend just told me a funny joke and I peed my pants.
I better kegle more.
You're actually creating more tension.
So what we're talking about with the coughing and the sneezing and the laughing, we call that stress incontinence, right?
So there's this additional stress of the laugh or the cough that create the muscle just can't hold anymore, right?
Right.
There's also urge incontinence.
So urgent continents, like, have you ever gotten off a plane and been like, oh, like, I really don't really have to go to the bathroom?
And then you walk around the corner and you see the sign to the bathroom and you're like making a beeline for it.
or you get to, right?
Like that's, you get to, you get to your house and you're holding bags of groceries
and you put your hand on the doorknob and you drop the groceries and you're undoing
your pants on the way to the bathroom.
That's urge incontinence.
That's a little bit different.
That is a neural pathway in the brain that is triggering that sensation.
And in that case, it very well could be a hypo, H-Y-P-O tonic pelvic floor.
So that's the other end of the spectrum.
There is two weeks.
So there is too tight and there is too weak.
But the myth is that.
all pelvic floor issues are because the pelvic floor is weak.
And that is actually not true at all.
I had never heard of a tight pelvic floor until I was having certain things happen.
And I was like, oh, you know, and then somebody had brought that up.
And when I started Googling, I was like, oh, my God, all of this makes so much sense for me.
And for men, does it sometimes show up as ED?
Like, what are the issues that a man might be having that would signal that maybe something is going on for him in the same way?
Is it like erectile dysfunction?
Yeah, it totally is easy.
And so think about, I mean, the pelvic floor is made up of 14 muscles.
And the biggest difference between a mass pelvic floor and a woman's pelvic floor is the woman's pelvic floor has like three sporeses and the men just has two, right?
And so for blood flow to get into the penis, if that pelvic floor is too tight, there is going to be an issue there.
So the other thing that I like to tell the guys that are listening is that, you know, again, we've been so conditioned to just go for those, you know, the Viagra, the C-Alas as the fix.
But here's the thing.
We, as soon as there is tension in the pelvic floor, there is going to be the potential for erectile dysfunction.
And the layer on top of that, if we don't, if we don't think women are like, you know, breathing in a calm way,
diaphragmatically, men don't breathe that way either.
Now, here's what happens when we breathe dichromatically, which means you're breathing in through
your nose like you're smelling a fresh-baked apple pie and you're exhaling out of your mouth
like you are fogging up a mirror.
That's how you're supposed to breathe?
That's a diaphragmatic breath.
That is the form of breath that is going to wake up the pelvic floor.
Oh, my God.
I'm never breathing like that.
Wait, nobody ever breathes like that.
Well, and we don't have to do it 24-7, but what I say to my community is that if you, like, think of a newborn baby breathing.
When they're laying on their back, you see those chubby bellies rising and falling.
That is true diaphragmatic breathing.
So what's happening in those moments is we're taking in 600% more oxygen into our body, into our body.
So our cells are loving it.
We are triggering a parasympathetic nervous system response, which means that's our rest and digest.
And we are also activating a molecule called nitric oxide.
And nitric oxide is like Mother Nature's Viagra in a way.
Because what Viagra is, it is a capsule that is full of manufactured nitric oxide.
Nitric oxide is a molecule that is a vasodilator.
It means it opens up your, you know, it opens up the ability for there to be a lot of blood flow.
And what is an erection?
It requires blood flow to the penis.
So when you learn how to breathe diaphragmatically in through your nose and out through your mouth,
and even if you did this eight to ten times, first thing in the morning,
middle of the afternoon and in the evening, it's going to start the process of this,
all of this kind of cascade of benefits in breathing this way.
And then the other pieces is blood flow, right?
And that's why men can also use the cooch ball.
You know, there are also some other symptoms that people wouldn't connect the dots
as a pelvic floor issue.
So constipation, bloating, low back pain, chronically tight hips, cold tingly feet.
Those can all be rooted in pelvic floor dysfunction as well for both men and women.
Oh my God, you're like diagnosing me.
My feet are always freezing.
You're saying cold feet?
Yeah.
Yeah.
So interesting.
Listen, I believe that the whole body is like one thing and, you know, like what you're saying and it makes total sense.
I would never put those two things together.
But when you say it, it does make sense that it could be coming from there.
Could you just answer this one question real quick?
Like, for people that are going in the gym like me and like probably a lot of guys that are listening now and women too, you know, are there things that we could be doing at the gym that would be actually counterproductive to these kind of issues?
I know like Pilates can be the big solution, but are there things that you should not be doing at the gym or can be doing at the gym to help?
Yeah, that's a great question.
So the biggest thing to watch for is holding your breath as you're lifting.
Oh, you're kidding.
That is the biggest.
Yeah.
So the tweak here is when you are lifting, so on the low, let's just say you're doing bicep curls.
Let's just use something super simple that people can visualize.
So you have the weight down by your side and then you're going to curl the weight up toward your shoulder as you contract your bicep, right?
So in an optimal pelvic floor wellness world, you are going to be exhaling out of your mouth as you curl that weight up toward your body.
And you're going to inhale as you bring that weight back down.
So anytime you are lifting the load, that is when you want to exhale.
Why? Because on the exhale phase of breath, that is when the pelvic floor is contracting.
That is when it's working. That is when it's supporting. So I have had so many people like walk through
my doors at my studio and clinic and be like, I was just doing a deadlift. I had one young woman
come in and she was in a crossfit competition. And she's like, Jana, I was doing my deadlift
and I could, I just felt a pop and I felt heat. And my first question, my first question, I was,
question was, can you, were you breathing? And she's like, I don't think I was breathing, right?
Yeah. So what happens when we hold our, when we hold our breath? Think about that. When do you hold
your breath when you are, when you're feeling safe or when you're not feeling safe? So let's say
you're driving through a school zone and a basketball goes bouncing in front of your vehicle,
like you're going to hold your breath, right? Slam on your big, hold your breath. You're going to
hold your breath when you're getting not so good news. You're going to, so the body becomes conditioned to link
holding breath with not being safe.
And so what it does at that point is even though you're at the gym and you're like pumping
your tunes in your headset and you're having a grand old time, as soon as you're holding your
breath and there is movement occurring, your body's sympathetic nervous system is like
alerting the army and saying like she's not safe.
She's holding her breath.
Hey guys.
You know what?
Girls dick.
Girls dig guys with confidence.
And that's especially true in the bedroom.
Remember back in the day when you were always like super hard and ready to go.
Want to get that confidence back in bed?
Well, then you need to check out BluChu.

and you're like pumping your tunes in your headset and you're having a grand old time,
as soon as you're holding your breath and there is movement occurring, your body's sympathetic
nervous system is like alerting the army and saying like, she's not safe.
She's holding her breath.
When there's an absence of breath, your sympathetic nervous system, which is your fight,
flight freeze is going to jump into action because it doesn't know that you're at the gym.
It thinks you are legitimately in danger.
Wow.
And so it's going to trigger, it's going to trigger cortisol.
you know, your stress hormones are going to go through the roof?
Well, in perimenopause, what happens when your stress hormones go through the roof?
When your adrenals are pumping all day long, you're going to be carrying more weight than you should.
It's going to impact how you're sleeping.
It's going to impact how you're digesting.
So there's this trickle-down effect of something so simple as I'm at the gym, I'm doing a workout, it's a good thing for me,
but that one simple piece of breath can completely kibosh the outcome or the impact of that
seemingly positively healthy action that you've taken by going to do your workout.
No, you're changing my life right now because I feel like I do the exact opposite of that
breath thing that you're talking about.
Like I'm thinking like when I am doing the harder part, I'm doing the wrong movement.
You know, my breath has always been not good, you know, breathing.
and I think if anything, I've been doing it opposite.
So you're literally changing my life right now because I love all this stuff.
I think it is super important.
And it's like something, like you said, like here I am going to the gym, working out so hard to do all these right things.
And what's the point if I'm not doing that right as well, right?
It's like counterproductive.
And it's like, you know, I'm very into health and fitness.
So this is the stuff that I need to know.
I think it is really important.
I love this kind of information.
down. Well, and you know, a functional muscle, like strong does, or I'll say it this way,
tight does not equal strong. A tight muscle is not a strong muscle. A tight muscle is where there's,
like, there's just short muscle fiber. So for example, a friend of mine started using her
cooch ball regularly. And she phoned me and she's like, oh my God, I didn't realize or I had
forgotten that, and this example is like for her going pee.
She's like, Dana, I can now sit down on the toilet and the flow of urine will start like
within two seconds.
She said, I didn't realize, like I would sit on the toilet and it would sometimes be like
10 seconds.
And then there's a few little dribbles of pee and then the flow, you know, will be a little
stronger.
And so what that is, that is a telltale sign of a hypotonic pelvic floor.
If you cannot sit down on the toilet or for guys, if you cannot start the flow of urine within like literally two seconds of taking your pants down or you sit on the toilet for like 10 minutes before you can actually take a poop, that is a hypertonic, too tight pelvic floor and it is not functional.
Wow. I'm obsessed with this ball.
I can't wait to get it.
And my audience is going to hear all about it because once I'm a good like, you know, patient.
I'm going to do it, you know, because this is like the solution to a lot of my problems.
And so can you just explain everything about it?
Because I'm going to get it any day now.
I'm going to start using it.
Yeah.
Just like, let's talk about that.
And then I'm going to tell my audience about my process, okay?
My progress.
Yeah.
Yeah, go on.
Yes.
Please.
Please do.
And make sure you tag me when you do that.
I will.
Yes.
Okay.
So here's literally how simple this is.
So this ball was inspired.
I mentioned him already.
Dr. Bruce Crawford is an American urologist,
and his job is doing pelvic floor surgeries for women.
So he puts flings or mesh to create basically like a false floor for the pelvic floor.
And what he started noticing was the same women were coming back for the same surgery
two years later, three years later.
And some of them were coming back for like a third surgery.
And so he started asking his colleagues, like,
are you seeing the same women on your table?
And you know what the answer was?
They said, yeah, but do?
your job, you're a surgeon.
We're not here to like, you know, strengthen the pelvic floor.
Do your surgery.
Send them on their way.
And he just felt that that wasn't ethical.
That wasn't right.
Right.
And so he did a research study that showed that 90% of pelvic floor dysfunction is a fitness issue,
not a medical issue.
And when I heard him presenting his research, it, as a Pilates instructor, it like, it was
like the heavens opened up that day because I thought in my clinic, I already had.
pelvic floor physical therapist, which is an amazing way to get your diagnosis if you're too
tight or two weeks. So I'm a huge, huge supporter of pelvic floor physical therapy. But I thought,
okay, if this is really true, if this is a breath, posture, and blood flow issue, what can I be
doing in my Pilates classes with my clients and what can I teach to my teachers to teach our clients
to start to improve their pelvic floor health.
And that's when I came up with the idea for the ball.
And so the missing piece for a lot of pelvic floor dysfunction is the fact that those muscles are lacking oxygen-rich, nutrient-rich blood flow.
Okay.
Think of muscles like a plant.
Okay, so if you planted a garden and there was a lack of sunlight and a lack of rain,
those vegetables in that garden would not flourish, right?
It's the same exact thing with our muscles.
The food that our muscles take in is the oxygen and the nutrients that are carried by our blood,
by our circulation.
And so because the pelvic floor is situated where it is, because we live on a planet with gravity,
because we have poor posture, because many of us are over-caffeinated,
many of us are lacking hydration.
The pelvic floor, instead of being like this juicy cauldron of these 14 muscles,
often becomes like beef jerky.
Like it's not pliable.
It's not juicy.
It's not yummy.
And so then there's this tissue called fascia.
And fascia's connective tissue that's like a spider webbing throughout our entire body.
And unlike muscle,
fascia, it can be
slightly stretched,
but fascia really does need
heat and force to be released.
So think of fascia like a boa constrictor snake.
And so this fascia is wrapping
every single muscle fiber we have
in a healthy body that got healthy fascia.
Fasha and muscles should glide along each other
like if we were sliding down a water slide.
That's how muscle and fascia should interact.
Right.
The reality is muscle and fascia
are like sticky Velcro.
They are stuck together.
And when that happens,
fascia starts to
almost like suffocate the muscle
because it doesn't allow that blood
to get to the muscle.
So over time,
the muscle is going to,
we call it atrophy.
The muscle's going to die.
It's going to forget what its job is
because it doesn't have
the environment to live.
Right.
So that's what the coach ball does.
So the practice is so simple.
and the ball I should say is so it's three layers it's a five inch diameter but I just didn't want it to be like a playground ball and I when I was testing it out like I have three boys and so back then they were much younger so I was sitting on their many basketballs and I was sitting on their floor hockey balls and it was like the three bears some were too hard so it was triggering my sympathetic nervous system yeah some were too soft right yeah doing nothing and and I I I
I wanted to find the just right.
And so that's what the cooch ball is.
It's the first layer is this rubberized bladder.
Then we wrap it with this really cool nylon thread that gives it a little more oomph
so that when the weight of an adult is on it, it just doesn't get flat.
Then we put the outer coating on it with a little bit of a texture.
And that was meant for especially women that are wearing, like, more slippery type leggings
so that you, so it can comfortably stay in place.
And so when you sit on the ball and you fill the ball, this will be important for
you, Kathy, when you get it.
So there's a whole video series, and I know sometimes people are just like, I want to
get going.
So they just pump their ball up and sit on it.
But so that's you.
When you pump your ball, you want to pump it up about 80% full.
And for me, that's like, you're going to get a little pump that comes with it.
So you're going to pump it about 18 or 19 times.
And that's going to leave a little bit of squishiness of the ball.
And that's important because when you sit on the ball, you want the ball and your pelvic floor
to start having like a friendly conversation.
If you fill up your cooch ball and it's like rock hard, it's not unsafe.
It's just that that conversation between the ball and your body is going to be a little bit
more challenging.
It's not going to be as fluid.
Right.
So when you sit on the ball, it's a little bit squishy.
And then when you add your diaphragmatic breathing, here's what happens.
And here's the beauty of this little simple product.
It doesn't matter if you are hypertonic, two touch.
or hypotonic, lacking tone,
it's going to work for all situations, and here's why.
When you sit on the ball and if your pelvic floor is hypertonic, too tight,
you're going to sit on the ball and there's going to be something that I call the ouch factor,
all right?
And that outch factor might be like a ghetto blaster, like just pump in the music,
or it might be more subtle.
But what the outch factor tells you is your body saying,
This part, these tissues aren't healthy.
The out factor happens when the environment of that pelvic floor,
when that blood flow is really, really lacking.
And when the muscle is too tight,
it's just kind of like if you go for a massage
and they do like a deep tissue massage,
it's that hurt so good.
It's kind of like that, right?
Yeah, that makes sense.
So as long as you're breathing, yeah, and as long as you're breathing,
that's what I always say, your breath is your guide.
As long as you're breathing, like smelling the apple pie
and fogging up the mirror,
then you stay on the ball.
If you notice your breath is erratic,
you're holding it, it's shallow,
come off the ball.
I have some men and women that literally start with like three breaths,
like maybe 15 seconds,
and then over the weeks and months,
they work their way up to their three minutes.
So what's happening for someone that has a two-tight pelvic floor
is the ball becomes like a massage therapist.
It starts to melt through those facial restrictions.
It starts to bring the oxygen-rich blood to the area.
And when you come off the ball, you're going to feel, once the blood flow starts making its way, you're going to feel warm, you're going to feel tingly.
It feels really good.
Now, if you are hypotonic and there's a lack of tone, when you sit on the ball and you do your breathwork, which I lead everybody through the breath, because there's a way to optimize this with your breath.
Yeah.
The ball becomes like literally a floor.
It becomes a support.
So then when you learn how to breathe properly when your pelvic floor is lacking tone or too weak,
think of it like your pelvic floor learning to do a plank or a push-up.
It's going to learn how to start to lift up and melt back down, two away from and toward the ball.
And so that's how it works for all pelvic floors.
Oh, that's so interesting because it could literally like kind of diagnose you, right?
If you're maybe like, oh, I feel like I have a pelvic floor issue.
always thought it was weak. Maybe I'm tight. I don't know. They could sit on that ball and they'll know
kind of by how they feel with it, correct?
Exactly. You got it. Yeah, that's so interesting. And like how long does it typically take to work before,
I mean, you say like you're going to sit on it. If you get up to that three minutes,
you will kind of feel that tingling afterwards if you got the tight one. But like how, like what are the
kinds of effects that it could have over time? Yeah. So, you know, I, I mean,
You will feel, like, you will feel something different after your first experience.
I just had this, this woman messaged me a few nights ago.
She's a new mom.
Well, I mean, her son just turned one.
And she messaged me and she said, you know, I've had my coach ball.
It's been sitting for three months.
I don't know why I haven't used it yet.
She said, I got on it tonight.
And she said, Jana, I cannot believe this pressure that I've been feeling in, like, you know, down there in, in her.
the floor area. She's like, it is light. I feel warm. I feel tingly. So some people will have that
biofeedback on the first experience. For some that are maybe a little more, you know, maybe just
connected from their body or maybe a little bit skeptical. It may take a little bit more time. But what I say
to, you know, my new cooch ballers is that give me 30 days. And in 30 days, if you can commit to your
three minutes a day, I can tell you that if you're waking during the night to go pee, that's
going to improve.
If you are having pain during sex, that, you know, penetrative sex, that's going to change.
You are going to notice your bloating start to improve.
You're going to notice when you're out for a walk or a run when you're working out, that's
going to improve for guys.
Like my husband is also 51 and he talks about when he's consistent with his cooch ball,
there's two main things he feels in his body.
First of all, he can completely empty his bladder.
He doesn't have to have those little dribble marks on his sweatpants, you know, after.
And he says, Jana, I can, he believes he can get at least 20 extra yards off the tea when he gulps
because the pelvic floor has such an impact on our hip mobility that those are the two things that Jason notices most.
And so there's a lot to be said for, you know, starting to manage the incontinence, the pain, the posture, the bloating, the constipation.
You know, I had one guy reach out to me.
He's probably been doing the cooch ball now for about a year.
But when he first messaged me, it was probably about maybe, I'm going to say, two to three weeks after he started using it consistently.
And he said, you know, his text was, this might be TMI, but he said, I am waking up as the 16.
year old version of myself every morning. Oh my God. I love that because literally my next question
was like, you know, listen, we talk a lot about sex on my show, you know, so let's like, you know,
I want to hear like what the, you know, side effects to, in that part of your life are. I would
assume it's going to be better orgasms, better heart ons because it's all about blood flow for both
men and women. Yeah. Yeah. It is all about blood flow. And here's the thing from a, if we were
if we were to like dissect the orgasm from like a from a muscular perspective all right so what happens
during the build up to an orgasm is you're going to to have like the most amazing mind blowing orgasms
your pelvic floor needs to be very functional and what I mean by that is as the buildup is
happening what the muscles are literally contracting they're lifting they're lifting
they're contracting, they're working, they're working.
And it's kind of like, you know, you're going up this mountain and it's getting,
you're getting to the summit.
It's getting closer and closer and closer.
So that pelvic floor had better have the strength to be able to, you know,
bit by bit follow the sensation of the orgasm.
But then in the moment of the orgasm itself, it needs to be accompanied by the,
immediate release, the letting go, the surrender, which is taking those muscles that are working,
like imagine, imagine making a fist and you're making a fist and you're making a fist and you're
making a fist and the fist is getting tighter and tighter and tighter.
And then you just let that fist go, right?
Your fingers open up, your palms open up.
That's literally what has to happen in the pelvic floor biomechanically to achieve that high
level of orgasm.
And so I am such a firm believer that those women that have just bought into this nonsense that they just, they just can't orgasm.
They're just one of the unlucky ones that this cannot happen for them.
Nah, ladies, it's just that your body is not supporting you in the action of the orgasm.
So that's why it is so important.
From a guy's perspective, a pelvic floor contraction will feel if they can imagine this, if they could
feel like they were pulling their scrotum like up inside of them.
And so for guys that,
you know,
for guys that want to play with like lasting longer,
they need to be able to,
like the pelvic floor for them is like a gas pedal,
a gas and a brake pedal.
Yeah.
They want to put on,
you know,
step on the gas.
Well,
they want to be able to,
you want to be able to like contract that pelvic floor.
But then maybe you want to put the brakes on and like edge a little bit or
last a little bit longer.
Then you want to be able to,
you know,
be able to let go and release a little bit before you start the next wave of contract.
So it is really important from that sensuality.
And then, you know, Kathy, we're going to go there because I know that this is going to resonate
with you and your audience.
There is, besides the musculature, there is a nerve that runs from our brain through the
pelvic floor into the genitals of both men and women.
It's called the pudendal nerve.
Some people pronounce it pudendal.
This nerve is really important.
This nerve has two big jobs.
It's a sensory nerve.
So it's all of the feelings.
Everything from pleasure through to pain runs through that nerve.
But it's also a motor nerve, which means like it's a communication highway.
So it's sending information from the brain through the pelvic floor to the genitals.
And if we, you know, we've been talking a lot about the physical aspect of the pelvic floor.
But there also is this beautiful energy around the pelvic floor.
And when I learned this fact that I'm going to share with you, it put so many things into perspective for me.
The word pudendal, if you go into Google and ask Google, like, what is the Latin root of the word pudendal?
What's going to pop up on your screen is an area of shame.
Wow.
Really?
Yes.
So the name of the nerve that gives us communication from.
our brain pleasure and pain right yeah yeah it's shrouded it's shrouded in the energy of shame
and so no wonder we're muted we don't talk about this and and that's i mean that's kind of my
little tagline is i want to i want to wake men and women up about this part of our body like
one cooch at a time like that that's so that was such that was so telling for me because
we hold this shame we hold trauma
in our pelvic floor and it impacts its ability to,
we use the pelvic floor for everything, walking, running, jumping, pooping, peeing, sex,
you know, delivering babies.
Yeah.
Like everything we do includes this group of muscles.
And so when we look at the energy around it, like that sacral chakra,
like the sensuality, the creativity, when we are blocked there or when we have suppressed emotions
or we don't acknowledge, like depending even how you grow up,
what religion you grew up in, how you were educated about the pelvic floor, or that part of your body, that private part of your body, it can stick with you, you know, well throughout your lifetime.
And so I like to mention this because it's important for people to realize that emotion and suppressed emotion and blocked emotion and frozen emotion can be just as impactful on that orgasm as not having great blood flow or not having.
muscles that do their job.
So, you know, these two things hand in hand, the emotionality, the energetics and the spirituality
and the physical aspect of the pelvic floor area, when you can dial those, that trifecta in,
like, I don't care how old you are, your sensuality, your pleasure is going to be very much amplified.
Yeah, no, and I mean, listen, I believe very much so in the mind-body connection.
You don't hear people in the regular medicine world talk about it,
but sometimes you could hear them saying things that are exactly mind-body related.
You know, and some people think that's like so like, oh my God,
you're a quack if you believe that.
But I'm sorry, like a lot of women that get endometriosis or have it,
they'll say we're sexually abused.
They could make that connection.
Why?
Because that's like, you know, like that's a mind-body connection kind of illness.
I believe in that always, you know, and it's like I've seen it.
in my life. Wherever I'm holding my stress, I could start getting like physical ailments for it.
You know, so it totally makes sense. I believe in all of that. I, I'm shocked that you came up with
this ball idea. Like, I think it's such a great thing. You know, I can't wait to use it. I'm going to say
one little thing that I had when I, like, because the orgasm thing that you were talking about is so
true because one of the reasons why I realized I was tight at some point. And I don't think I am anymore
because this isn't happening. But there was a moment where one time I had this, the most powerful orgasm,
but I had, and it's exactly what you were talking about that, I had no release afterwards.
I wasn't able to release, and I had this massive cramping pain.
And that's what sent me Googling, like, what the fuck is this?
You know what I mean?
And that's when I started to realize I have the tight pelvic floor, you know, and when I went to the gynecologist, she went inside and felt around and said, does this hurt, does this hurt?
And at one point she said, does this?
I'm like, oh, I feel that.
She's like, oh, yeah, that's where you're tight.
Like, they could tell, right?
Like inside.
Yes, they can.
Yeah.
And that, if anyone's listening, that could be a little symptom, you know, like I had this weird cramping afterwards.
And I think it's exactly what you were talking about that I wasn't able to release because I was tight, right?
Does that make sense?
Oh, it does.
Like, think about when you, you know, if you get like a calf cramp or you get a cramp in your toes, you know, that's, yes.
Yeah.
So it's like, I was all pumping up with the orgasm, right?
The muscles were doing what they were doing.
But once I was done, because they're so tight, they couldn't relax.
And it was like really painful.
I was like, what the fuck is this?
And kind of scary because you're like, what's going on?
You know, this isn't normal.
And I just think, and listen, I never had any of this, right?
It just came out of nowhere.
I do have this lower scoliosis thing.
You talk a lot about, I know, like, you know, in Pilates, a lot of it is, like, posture
and everything.
Like, it's all connected.
So I just feel like over time, maybe that's what's happening because of my scoliosis
and posture and all that kind of stuff.
But it is all one thing.
I can't wait for your ball.
Why don't you give, like, shoutouts to, like, where people could get
this ball and where they could find out more information.
And like if they get it, they get access to that video, right?
Which tells them everything.
Because listen, I don't think three minutes a day is that much work to do,
considering the benefits that it gives you.
Do you know what I mean?
You're not telling anyone they got to go to the gym for an hour, you know,
every day and get in their car.
I mean, literally you sit at home for three minutes on a ball and it could change your life.
Like in a very positive way.
Yep.
you know, so on all the socials, I'm Jana.danelson, so J-A-N-A-Dalielsen.
And then coochball.com is where you can find the product, the video we call it, the pelvic
fix and fit, the PFF, which is your BFF, so you'll get the video series with that.
And it comes with its own little pump.
It's obviously lightweight, transportable.
And so that's what it's meant to be, is just something that becomes part of
your lifestyle. I've had, you know, women and men say to me, like, how long do I have to use this?
Yeah, that's what I was going to ask. Yeah. Are you still sit on yours? Like, do you still,
like, it is something that you just keep in your, in your back pocket and use it always. Like,
as a, just like you're going to the gym. It's something that you keep up with, right? That's how you look at it.
Yes. Totally. Like, I always say to people, like, would you brush your teeth for a month and then
not brush your teeth ever again? Or would you, would you only wipe your bum once a week? No.
like this is something that becomes like a part of your life and the cool thing is you know once you get
into my cooch ball community and I have a little bonus video in the PFF system that shows you how to use
the cooch ball for like hip flexor soas work I've got you know I can show you how to use it for some back
release so it's not just a one trick pony you can use it literally throughout your entire body and so
like I'm actually as we are having this conversation I was sitting online for my
three minutes. I have it now underneath my hamstring. So I just, because I'm on so many calls
during the day, I have it within arm's reach. And it just, it just builds into my day. I don't
have to take extra time to do it. Yeah, imagine. I mean, that's what they used to say with Kegels.
People would be doing it at their desk, right? You could just put this little ball and it's
that simple. And three minutes a day, you say give it 30 days, but you say a lot of people might
feel something right away for men and women.
Right?
Yep.
Yeah, I love it.
I can't wait to get mine.
I'm going to use it and then I'm going to talk about it, okay?
Because this is like right up my alley.
I wish you were like my best friend and I could talk to you every day.
And because I could talk about this kind of stuff forever.
I've been so like, oh my God, I need to get into Pilates.
I feel like that's what I need for my body right now.
Like that's going to be the best thing besides that.
So I'm going to get on it now even more so after talking to you.
You've inspired me.
I can't wait to use your ball.
I hope I'm sure plenty of people listening will go get it.
I will put links to your stuff in the description.
So anyone driving listening wants to go get the kooch ball.
I will put a link in the description.
But thanks so much for calling in.
This was super interesting.
You are welcome.
Have a great rest of your day.
You too.
Thanks, Jana.
Bye.
Bye.
Okay, I just want to tell you before you go that my book,
it's called Strictly anonymous Confession,
Secret Sex Lives of Total Strangers.
is now available not only in paperback and e-book,
but you can pre-order the audiobook.
It's still not going to be out until August 25th,
but you can pre-order it.
The book is basically 17 different stories taken from my show.
I kind of picked one story from each category
that I talk about on my show.
Like there's a hot wife story.
There's a cuck queen story.
There's a cuck story.
There's a gang-bang girl story.
Like I said, 17 stories.
and they're all told in the third person, and they're all true.
I took the interview and rewrote it in the third person,
and I wouldn't really call it like a total erotica book.
Think like Penthouse letters.
It's more direct.
It's not so over the top like erotica.
I don't really like that kind of vibe, right?
But these are true stories, 17 of them.
They're really short chapters, easy read.
You could read one or two, and then skip around.
You could read the whole book.
It's available in eback format, paperback format, and finally, the audiobook is available coming out August 25th, but you could pre-order it now.
