I got a little tour up in L.A. and came back to Northern California and ended up meeting the man I would marry.

So was it like full swaps, like full on? Like,

you could do whatever you want. Yeah. Although I would say I was a little, uh, tend to because I'd never been with a partner doing that. Like when I was, you know, getting my freak on in my 20s, I was just super slutty. I just kind of, you know, ended up fucking whoever I wanted whenever I wanted. where I could be more comfortable. And then started to date. And I was dating men my age. So back then it was about 51, you know, 50-51 and really miserable. And I kind of figure out why. And I was like, I come back from these dates. And I'd be like, what is wrong with me? the guy was nice, good looking, we had great conversation, but nothing sparked. And when I pick it

apart now, I think it was because I felt a sense of desperation off these older guys a little bit. And not to generalize. I know that's not across the board. But in, you know, I was on Hinge and Bumble, and those are dating apps. Yeah. Vanilla dating apps. And you can weave kink into those. But people are looking for specific things and they're oftentimes looking for a soulmate and I just realized I wasn't ready to be anyone's soulmate and I certainly wasn't ready to get shacked up and I'll never marry again. I'm a firm believer that once was enough. I don't have a reason to get married. I don't need to get married. I have my career and my success. I don't need anyone to support me. I'm happy being autonomous that way.

And at this point, you know, marriage is more of a, I'll never get divorced again, so I'm never going to get married again. Yeah, yeah, I get it. So it was kind of getting this vibe from these older guys and it was really sitting poorly with me. And so I pulled back, stopped dating and COVID hit. And just as I was like, oh, maybe I'll start dating again and dive in differently, COVID hit. And so I was on the back burner again. And then this is the big moment. Yeah.

In September of 2021, I was having my solar panels cleaned up on my house. And the crew that showed up had a third guy, usually was these two guys, had a third guy. And he, I'd never seen him before, but he got out of the truck and started walking up. I'd just gotten ready. I was going to go meet clients and have lunch with friends. I looked really good. And we locked eyes. And I thought to myself, oh, my God, I want to fuck that guy.

And I'm like, huh, thank you. And I was so kind of dumbfounded. I couldn't collect myself. I didn't know what to say.

I also wasn't fully invested in trying things and just not worrying about. you know, actually, again, I have to feel no shame about this. Yeah, right. You would have probably backed that, right.

Yes, I was still feeling like, is this weird, you know? And, you know, even we, you know, when my daughter was young, my first daughter was born, we were still playing up until I got pregnant with my second daughter. And it was weird, like we would get a babysitter to go out and swing. And I was like, is that weird? And now I'm like, fuck, if I was the me, I am now in my 30s. Yeah, you know, it would have been crazy. But again, you know, it's balance.

You got to do what's right for you in that moment. And I thought I was doing what was right for me and my family in that moment. And you're a shapeshifter in life in general. I mean, that's like, I mean, I think it's more normal for people to grow and change than to stay the same your whole fucking life. Whereas some people think, like, when someone changes, like, it's so bizarre. Like, people can't wrap their head around. It's weird. Yeah.

You know, where to me, that's, like, more normal. That's like what life's supposed to be about, you know? Yeah, I mean, I think we burn down. We burn down and rise. And I think giving ourselves permission to reinvent ourselves, that things don't have to be linear, that exploration is just that. It's an adventure.

And if something doesn't work, you chalk it up to an experience. Mike Kuck and I have had some funny experiences where, you know, we have a code word when we go to play as a couple. Yeah, what is it? I love the code words. I'm not going to say it because I don't want to blow it out of the water. Oh, yeah, you're right.

We have a way and it's not always the same thing, but it's usually based on an idea. And it sounds very natural to talk about it in conversation or bring it up.
