Ain't a gamble problem this week.
Nope.
Simon Burns.
Shout out to you.
Thought he was getting the whole thing done.
I'll tell you what, I was kind of bouncing all over the place on Sunday
at the RBC Canadian Open, switching back and forth between groups.
I was with Shane Lowry to start, who was 5 under par through 4, took the lead early.
Then all of a sudden, here comes Sam Burns, gets hot,
just birdies the first five on the back nine.
what's five in a row called?
Pink Panther.
Pink Panther for the kid.
I had a good chance for six in a row.
I know.
He was looking for it.
Looking really good.
Ends up shooting 62.
When he birdied 18,
I thought that was a wrap.
I thought he was going to get it done.
But there were still obviously a lot of guys behind him.
And in the end,
Ryan Fox, who I love, man.
We got to get him on this show.
I'm a big fan of him.
He is just a dude.
Picks up his second win in four weeks.
Canadian Open.
This is obviously, he won an opposite field event in Myrtle Beach,
but now the RBC Canadian Open.
big time, but this guy's a stud.
He's going to be on the next Presidents' Cup team, I would imagine.
His dad is a legend, legendary rugby player.
I asked Frank Nobalo, I said,
tell me how big a deal Ryan Fox's father is over in New Zealand
because he played for the All Blacks.
He goes, as far as like size of the country,
he would be the Michael Jordan of New Zealand.
I'm like, God, damn.
That's a pretty big.
It's a good guy to be.
His golf game's good, too.
He got that strong grip, his holdoff fades,
hits it hard as shit, low.
low,
the three would he hit in
on the fourth playoff hole.
By the way,
there's a bunch of stuff
to talk about
on this,
on this playoff.
Yeah.
One,
let me go,
the good part first,
the pace of play
between these two
all time.
Two of the fastest guys
on the PJ tour,
it's fun to,
like,
it was hard to get,
you know,
when Fox flared the one right
and then Burns had laid up.
It was hard to get
the camera on Burns
before he was sending that thing.
I mean,
they were going like
they were going to run out of daylight.
That's cool to see
because we need more
people seeing
you can play,
good golf and play good golf fast.
Secondly, I'd never seen, nor did I even know it was the thing you could do.
The whole location changed in the middle of a playoff.
So that was odd.
Just for everyone out there to think that this just came out of nowhere, we have our meeting
with CBS and the rules officials every Saturday morning, and they told us, like, because
of the way the golf course is routed and trying, because there was a big crowd there on 18,
I mean, it was down both sides.
And the way the crowd is, we're going to keep the playoff on 18.
But if it's tied after two holes, we're going to move the whole location.
So we knew this was going to happen a day before it actually did.
Everyone else in all social media is like, you can't just move the hole.
I'm like the players knew.
It was in the memo.
We all knew.
It was fine.
But yes, it was weird.
And with the wind direction, in my opinion, it made the hole kind of boring because it was dead in.
Yeah, I mean, the layup.
Layup.
Layup. It was just a wedge contest.
And then the wind died down.
But when we were going back for the third one, we have a rules official that's part of the TV broadcast.
We're like, hey, can we move the T up?
Yeah, the T.
That's what I was thinking.
I was like scoot it up 25 yards and let's go.
Yeah, I guess they were kind of talking.
They were like,
we didn't give them any kind of like notice that we might move the T.
So like that's not going to go over well.
I'm like, I'm pretty sure they'd be okay.
If they're like,
hey, we're going to move the T up and y'all can actually get home
so we can end this thing before Monday.
But like you said,
the three would Ryan Fox hit was unbelievable.
We were walking down the fairway after he hit it.
He looked at me and he goes,
about time one of us hit a fucking shot.
Because, I mean, it wasn't real good.
Yeah, I mean, it looked like it was going to be done after one.
Sam Burns said in there five feet,
best putter on tour.
Didn't look like you ate a bad putt, by the way.
Just, like, Ryan Fox is, like, broke his putt looked good, too.
Just broke off low.
I think Sam maybe gave it a fraction outside the right edge, and it didn't break.
And after that happens, when you feel like you got one in your back pocket and you let it go,
like, it's crazy, like the percentages of, you know, does that person go on to win the
playoff at a later hole or just feel like, fuck, that was my time.
It's crazy to think because I thought I was with you.
When he hit it in there to five feet on the first playoff hole, Sam Burns, I thought it was dead.
right there because this is a top two putter on the PJ tour this season.
Like this is, that's been the best club in his bag.
I know he hadn't won in a while.
I was shocked to see him miss that,
but I'm happy for Ryan Fox.
I love Sam Burns.
It's good to see him playing well again.
See if he can make a push for that right.
Yeah, nine spots up.
But man, he's,
and he's such a great dude.
Like I love following him.
He's always talking out there.
But he's, he's close.
He's,
he's starting to play.
He was in a little funk there for a little while,
starting to play good again.
But I'm very happy for Ryan Fox.
The world's starting to see how good.
this guy is. Yeah, he's going to be
on that President's Cup team. He's fun
to watch. He's fast. He's aggressive. I mean, the three
that he hit on the playoff. He didn't even take a
practice swing and it was like club,
it was like old Lee Trevino. He don't mess around.
It was awesome. I was like so many people
I don't think you play better. It's because you sit there
and think about it for forever. But props
Sam, also to Sam Burns.
After ball striking, not being
up to par with his putter for a while,
starting to click. Yeah. It was a new
golf course this year. TPC Toronto,
which I kind of got
argue with the name a little bit, Sleece, because I stayed in downtown Toronto.
There's 90 minutes each way to get out to the golf course.
So not really in Toronto.
Convenient.
But what did you think as far as watching on TV, how to come across?
Had some cool holes, I thought.
There was some good part three.
The one was giving people fits after the first day, the one where you hit it up on the
hill on the left, and you're basically like, Ludevig made like a seven, and with an
unbelievable up and down to make a seven.
They were like, we should move this 40 yards up.
And I was like, 40 might be a little aggressive.
but if you could at least hack it out of that rough.
But I liked it.
Rough was penal.
Long, it looked like, but huge fairways.
So, you know, the guys are going to shoot pretty low on it.
Nothing's long.
I mean, there's a lot of great courses, though, in Canada.
And, like, no offense to the TPCs.
I just don't think TPCs, by and large, there's a few of them that are good
are the best golf courses you can go to.
But the PJ Tour owns them.
I get it.
But there's some great spots around Toronto that I think would be my pick.
Yeah.
And there was a lot of people.
out there, but it is very far.
And I just feel like when you're in a big city like that, if you get a golf course that's
close to the city, the atmosphere just feels so much bigger.
Like, I don't think Glenn Abbey's that great of a golf course, but the environment out
there, the atmosphere, everything just feels big.
You got that whole stretch around the clubhouse where you got the short part, three, seventh,
the ninth green, then you got 16, 17, and 18, and there's just thousands of people.
And Canada loves their golf.
And so I love when they come out there and they support these guys.
the golf course is
okay. I heard they're going to make
some changes to it. It was in great shape. It looked
good. I mean there's huge fairways.
You mentioned that 11th hole, the par three,
which on Friday gave the guys all kinds of trouble.
I talked to one of the officials. He's like,
dude, we're getting worn out about this 11thold.
I'm like, for what? I didn't think it was that
terrible. Everyone was just bailing up the
mountain. I believe it was that day.
It was like 200 yards.
And it's a tough shot. I mean, there's water
right. There's the tall grass
left. And they were mad that there was no
bailout. I'm like, well, sometimes you just got to suck up and hit a shot. I mean,
what you want to shoot 25 under every week? I don't know what the wind was that day, but seven
iron now, like 200 is a seven iron for a lot of the guys, six for virtually everybody else.
It's not like they're hitting four iron. It was a hard shot. And they were saying like on
golf channel, like move it up 30 yards, then it'd be a good old. I was like 30 yards. I mean,
these are the best of the world. Like, by the way, you could hit it short and left if you
really wanted to and not even take any of it on, hit something that wouldn't get up the hill.
But the only thing I didn't like, once you were up there, like punishment is
great, but taking three,
Louva's just trying to hack it out, aiming sideways,
and he couldn't even get it out. It's like, that seems
a little too much, but
you ain't going to hear me a bit. Good prep for
Oakmont. Yeah. Tough shit. That's what exactly.
Better get ready, because there's going to be a lot of bogeys made
at Oakmont, which we're going to get to in a little bit. But one
last thing on Canadian Open,
Roy McRoy, shooting nine over par.
Any concerns heading into the U.S. Open.
Yeah, why don't we save the Rory takes
for when we get to the U.S. Open preview here,
but yeah, absolutely. I think that's
it's not something I just put in the rear
mirror, especially the way that he shot it, I think, is the big concern with the driver being such
an issue. If you don't have that at Oakmont, I mean, zero chance. All right. Well, before we get to the
U.S. Open, one last thing on the Canadian Open, because the rink, which they do every year up there,
they do a signature part three. Everyone at the rink was zoned in, Sleas, especially on Saturday afternoon.
It's awesome, man. And this year, the par three played anywhere from 112 yards to like 138 yards.
It was awesome, short little par three, got the boards wrapped around the tea box,
had some big stands right behind.
And I thought it was so cool.
I love it every single year, and we make sure we lay out for it on TV.
But anytime a Canadian is in the group, they start walking up a tea, they sing their national anthem.
And the place goes silent.
Take their hats out.
It's great.
On Friday, I was with Taylor Pendrith, Nick Taylor, and McKenzie Hughes, all three Canadians.
And it was one of the coolest scenes I've ever seen.
The place was packed to sing the national anthem, to watch those Canadians.
nadians, all the pride they have.
It's special, man. And they do such a great
job up there. I mean, that's hockey country.
Let's be honest, but they do love their golf, but
they were definitely zoned in. And they
do a good job with that and making it, that
hole, you want excitement, you want drama,
make it short. Every time,
wherever they go and they put the wrinkle up, like move the
T's up if you need to, but those short wedges
where you're going to have looks at hole in ones.
I was actually surprised. I thought we were going to see one.
I guess they're a little soft. It was tough to get the
ball back there for a lot of guys, but
that's how you do it. Like, you want that
John. You want a ball? I thought it was that front right one
that was going to get it. I was like, someone's throwing that behind it
and it's going to come straight back in it. But that's a
cool hole. It was cool. Saturday,
we did one of our sets there where Amanda Ballionis
and I sit there all day and call
the shots. We walked out of the tunnel. She
was the nice one. We're Toronto, Maple Leafs, Jersey.
Austin Matthews, they all love her.
All go crazy. And then here,
they make me out to be the villain every year slees.
Florida Panthers, who were in the Stanley
Cup finals. There's a fellow named Brad Marchon.
He used to play for the Boston Bruins. He's one of the best
players in the league, known as the leaf killer by some up there. He's done some very bad things
the Toronto Maple Leafs, crushed a lot of their dreams, now plays for Florida. He scored the game
winner on Friday night for Florida against Edmonton. So it only seemed fitting, since I am the
villain, to wear Brad Marchant's jersey out there, and my God, they booed my ass all the way over
to the set. Any relation to Marshawn Lynch? No, he's not. Perhaps distant cousins that we don't know
about. But good on you for that.
Hockey, just to get off
on a quick tangent. I don't even watch much
of it. It's sick right now. How about the first
two Stanley Cup final game? These are all over time.
These are awesome. NBA had a great game
one, too. Game two. Thunder took care of business, but I was like, we're running
hot here for a minute. Man, it was cool, though. I got worn out pretty good by the
folks up there. Like I said, they were zoned in with our friends over
at zone nicotine. But now, Sleez, it is time to get to the
third major of the year and the USGA. And with the U.S. Women's
Open having just wrapped up and the U.S. Open set to start in just a couple of days, a lot of attention
gets paid to all the work the U.S.GA does to host world-class championships. But did you know,
the U.S.GA does much more to ensure the game continues to thrive for everyone. The U.S.GA
devotes countless resources to programs and initiatives that affect every aspect of the game,
including junior golf, environmental, sustainability, and the history of the game, to name a few.
When joining the U.S.GA members program, you are giving back to the game you love by supporting
those initiatives.
USGA members also receive great benefits like the U.S.
Open or U.S. Women's Open members hat, a personalized member
bag tag, a subscription to the USAGA's golf journal, and much more.
Visit usg.org slash join.
That's usGA.org slash join to become a USGA member today.
All right, let's get to our U.S. Open previewsleys.
They're headed to the beast.
That is Oakmont Country Club.
I'm so happy.
The 10th time they have hosted.
the men's U.S. Open.
It is the 125th edition of the U.S. Open, and this thing is going to be a monster.
We've seen the videos the last several weeks.
The rough looks nasty.
I was actually just on the plane on the way home from Toronto.
I was bored.
So I looked up.
I decided I'm going to watch a little bit of the 2016 U.S. Open with Dustin Johnson won.
I forgot how severe these greens are.
I mean, I remember they're brutal, but some of these puts these guys had to hit.
Oh, my goodness.
And they said they're going to have them stimping at like 15.
Okay.
They did get rain this weekend.
Take that for what it's worth.
And I never really believe, every major, especially U.S. Open, we get the videos leading up to it in the weeks before.
Like, look at this rough.
And you can't even find it.
And then you get to the tournament starts and it's like not even close to that.
This week, now that the players are up there and getting going, I think it's going to be pretty damn close to what they're seeing.
And it's going to be, it is going to be a fun U.S. Open.
There's no, there's no trees and no water on the golf course.
How hard can it be, dude?
There's a couple little, like, I'm going to stick to calling them hazards, the whole people.
penalty area, everything bothers me.
There's a couple little hazards that run down some fairways, but yeah, for the most part,
no water, zero trees, like you said.
About those videos, okay, about a month ago, they had U.S. Open Media Day.
So some media people come up and play.
The one that was going viral was a gentleman that dropped a golf on the rough,
and if you look, if you pay any attention at all, it is just off the walkway,
like 20 yards short of the fairway.
So I'm like, can we at least make it realistic to where...
Don't top it off of this or...
Don't hit a three wood.
is not a three-wood hole. Whatever all that was, do not at three-woods. But I do believe
it's going to be nasty. I was actually with Buddy Marucci this past week up at Kay's Valley,
USGA legend, my Walker Cup captain, who played it the day before we were together. And he's like,
let me tell you. This thing is just ridiculous how hard it is. So Ben Griffin came out and said,
I would take four over right now, not tee it up and just wait and see if anyone can beat that.
Are we out of line for thinking this could be like, I mean, on hell won it with an
over par score there?
Five over.
DJ was minus three.
I'm gonna go,
I got all the scores for you.
Anyway,
I think this is,
I mean,
par is very much in play
from what it sounds like.
Potentially could be over
depending on exactly
how they want to set that place.
So Anheal Cabrera
was five over when he won.
So just so you know,
this golf course is 7,500 yards-ish,
par 70,
okay, out of all the U.S.
opens they've hosted,
which includes the U.S.
Women's Open,
nobody has been better
than five under par.
Last time I was there,
Shane Lowry was seven under
par through three rounds and had a four-shot lead. Four under went on to win. Trivia question.
2016 U.S. Open, Shane Lowry, your leader, was playing alongside who in the final pairing?
I don't know. I don't know if you're playing dumb or if you get this, I would be just...
Tiger played with Aaron Battley, correct? Late in the day. No, I don't know. Give it to me.
2016, Tiger was not a factor. 2016's year Dustin Johnson won.
Was the year Tiger came out with the mock on and looked like a free...
on hell one in 2007.
Oh, there you go.
So, 2016, the final pairing consisted of
Shane Lowry,
and I believe the 642nd ranked
player in the world, Andrew Landry.
Of course, who could forget?
Who could forget? That was right on the tip of
my tongue. Yeah.
That's shocking, because this is the golf course, and we'll get into it
more, but like, I don't see, if someone outside the top
20 in the world golf rankings win this, I'd be shocked.
So that's my thing, and that's what, with U.S. opens
in a golf course this hard,
I honestly think you could see it.
a guy, I'm not saying a
642nd rank player in the world,
but I can see somewhat of a dark horse
who has a hot week with the driver because you do
have to hit fairways. And when you
have to shoot around even par,
I can see a possible dark horse
getting in the mix. I'm not saying they're going to win.
Just getting in the mix. In the third
to last group back in 2016
was Daniel Summerhase, who was a very
good player back then, but
you're talking about Shane Lowry, who still
wasn't the Shane Lowry we have today.
You had Dustin Johnson,
Lee Westwood in the next to last group.
Sergio Garcia was up there.
I can't remember who.
Jason Day made a move on Sunday.
But this is, I'm very interested to see where we go with this.
Because from what I saw back then, some of these puts, it is terrifying.
And I know they're going to push the limits.
Scott Langley, if you're listening,
please just don't make the golf course the biggest story.
It's going to be a story no matter what because of how hard it is.
But man, some of these greens, I just ran into Phil Kessel, the hockey player,
on the plane right over here,
and we were just talking at baggage claim.
When he played for the Pittsburgh Penguins,
they won the Stanley Cup that year,
the U.S. Open was there in 16.
They got to play it the day after.
He goes, dude, that place is unfair.
I mean, I know he's not a professional golfer,
but I kind of agree with him on summit.
They can push it to where this place can become unfair.
Some of these putts are absurd.
I mean, these greens, sleighs,
this place was built in 19,
I have it written down here somewhere, 1903, I believe.
Okay?
Every green is the same except for one, and that is the eighth green.
Yeah, that's back when they used to stamp at like six and a half.
That's my point.
Now they're at 15, which I think the only typically the way the USDA gets in trouble,
in my opinion, on these setups for US opens is they press the pin locations too much.
Like a pace or two here, they're just soften it just a little bit.
It doesn't have to be like if you roll, you know, if you have a lag put and it rolls
three feet past the hole, it's down and it's off the front and it's 30-yard pitch shot back up.
Like, you don't need that.
It's already brutally hard.
Just don't let it get to the point where players can come.
come in and be like, this is bullshit.
It's making, because they have done that in the past.
Just put the pins in normal places where they're fair.
The golf course itself, the rest of the setup is going to take care of the scoring for.
You don't have to get gimmicky on a golf course like Oakmont where they mean, it's going to be,
it's going to be survival out there.
That's where I get nervous.
And especially if we don't have any more rain, it gets dry and it gets firm.
I think it's supposed to be done according to what I've been told.
But as I said, 1903, it was built by Henry Fons, designed by Henry Fonz.
The big Fons.
Fonzarelli.
You know, this is the only golf course he ever designed.
One and done.
One and done.
Just I did it.
I made the hardest one on the earth.
Course rating of 77 and a half.
So if you remember there, I mean, how easy is other golf courses when you leave Oakmont?
If you break, that's nice.
If you can break 80 regularly, you're scratch, basically.
It's just, it's going to be a test.
I'm so excited for the week.
I'm glad actually to not be working and sit on the couch and enjoy it this week.
But I want to go over some of the winners for you because, like you said, you don't really see.
that you don't see a dark horse winning,
which I don't either.
I think there could be some surprise,
like in contention type guys,
but to actually win it, no.
So let's go to 2016,
Dustin Johnson wins at four under par.
On the women's side,
Paula Kramer in 2010,
wins at three under.
2007 was the year it was carnage,
plus five for Anhelle Cabrera.
Ernie Ells in 94,
won at five under.
Patty Sheehan won at four under.
Larry Nelson, four under.
Johnny Miller, famous for the 63.
Ever heard of it?
She's five under par.
And hit like,
10 iron shots inside of 15 feet or something like that.
Shut 63. Don't know if you're aware of that.
Jack Nicholas won there in 1962 at 1 under.
The great Ben Hogan and 53 at 5 under.
And then how about these last two?
Sam Parks Jr. in 1935, 11 over par.
Sammy Pee, would you like that?
Would you like that?
And then the first U.S. Open they hosted.
It was a par 72, but Bobby Jones won in 1927 at 13 over.
That's a 301 total.
So when we played man golf.
When you didn't hear any of this bitching coming in,
No, I didn't shoot 20 under.
Shut up.
Just post the score.
But look at the names.
I mean, I don't know.
All those, there's a couple old names that I don't know, but like those are name brand guys.
Name brand.
I think we'll have some, to your point, like catch a good week with a Daniel Summerhays type, let's just call it, right?
Yeah, I hit it straight.
I can make a bunch of pars.
I hang around to actually win the thing.
I think it's going to be a marquee name.
Like I said, if it went outside the top 20, I'd be really, really surprised.
Assuming it stays the way it does.
Now, let me ask you this because, like, in U.S. Open's past, and I'm a fan of it, we see the graduated rough.
Like a ball that lands in the fairway bounces from fairways typically, scoots into the rough.
In my opinion, I like when those guys have a better chance of advancing it.
I'm not saying you have to be able to knock it on the green, but at least advancing it down by the green to where you're chipping.
Compared to a guy that flies it 15 yards off the fairway into the people, you know, I think that person should be penalized more.
I don't believe.
Have you heard anything about them graduating the rough?
No, I've heard it's just first cut and then absolutely just, hey.
And you can't do anything when someone hits it into the people.
There's thousands of people.
It's a major championship.
Yeah, I don't even mean like,
they're going to catch a good lie, which is.
Forget the gallery just like if you fly it, well, you know, short of the people.
I think no matter where you hit it, if you're in the rough, you are going to be punished.
It's, it's going to be a test.
You are not going to be able to fake it around there.
But I do like, because I don't even care about the 7,500 yards, because that's not that long nowadays.
It's you are going to get punished if you do not hit fairways.
So you better get out there.
You better hit some fairways.
And we talked about it a little earlier.
We mentioned Roy McElroy shooting nine over par at the Canadian Open.
He did say in his press conference, it's a little harder to get motivated nowadays because he completed the career grand slam.
Obviously, trying to figure out the driver right now.
He had some weird ones in Canada.
Are you concerned heading into the U.S. Open?
Yeah.
I mean, it's not just that he played terribly.
I think if he went up there and drove it great, hit OK irons, was a mess on the greens and made some sloppy.
But I'd be like, look, he's not mentally all the way engaged in the.
this tournament. The fact that he was driving it all over the map, got done and said the second
time I've used this thing this year. I've had issues both times. I'm going to go home to Florida
and hit a ton of drivers and test something out. Like the one thing that you need to do at Oakmont
before anything else, there's a lot of things you need to do. But if you're not playing from the
fairway, often, you got no chance whatsoever. And yeah, when I saw Rory hitting it all over the
map, he's going to have to, he's going to go home, he's going to tweak it. I'm sure it'll get better.
But I just don't think this is the type of golf court. Like I like Rory at a lot of places, this
wouldn't be, like, he can miss a lot of fairways.
We've seen him do it, and normally he can get away with it and still win golf tournaments.
This week, I don't think he can.
I mean, I definitely have, like, I'm not very high on Roy McRoy going in this week.
What do you think?
You should be excited that if you're not high on him.
You should be excited that it's a little struggle.
I've never seen him drive the golf ball the way he did this past week.
Now, I don't know if he just didn't really want to be there.
Obviously, he wants to look forward to the U.S. Open.
I don't know.
His ball speed numbers were down with his.
driver he was hitting compared to normal.
I mean, I think back to the 10th hole on Friday, I think he hit a three or four in
off the tee and hit it 40 yards left, up almost on the road.
Almost out of bounce with an iron.
Yeah, and to see him shoot 78 around there, yeah, I was a little shot.
Once he made the eight on the fifth hole, I think, where he hit it over the world on his second.
I think goes, yeah, I'm checked out.
And they kept saying, you know, try to find something, try to find something.
I'm like, dude, he's already texted the pilot, said, get.
that baby fired up.
Gass it up.
We're out of here.
So yeah, do I think he can go out and play well and possibly win the U.S. Open?
Absolutely.
I mean, that's how good this guy is.
He's already won a major this year.
But hearing those comments about it's hard to get motivated and all this,
that surprises me a little bit.
And I think that's where you've got to give even more credit to Tiger Woods
and Jack Nicholas for all the great things they've done because they were never satisfied.
You got five.
Like, you're an elite company.
You're a Grand Slam winner.
many of you but tiger got 15 jack got to 18 like they didn't just get that done and be like oh
all right i'm done and maybe rory won't maybe he'll catch a second win but i thought that was
very interesting he's like yeah it's hard for me to find the motivation to get out to the range
and practice for three or four hours i was like i mean damn dude you know we got a major you know
got a u.s open coming up you could have a all-time year you already picked off the masters
just feels quick to me for a guy right coming off the grand slam to lose motivation
to practice.
But to your point, it just shows, like,
there's dudes that are wired different.
And Jack and Tiger, like, no matter how many they got,
they wanted the next one, they wanted the next one.
We'll see what Rory does with it.
But that was interesting.
I mean, I've read some of Evan Priest and Steve Williams' book
called Together We Roared.
Steve Williams is a longtime caddy,
and he told stories about how they would go win a major.
And the next day, Tiger would be on the range at 8 a.m.
Like, not celebrate, not nothing.
He's like, no, we got to get better.
I mean, if you hear stories about, like, Kobe in the gym
after they win titles and stuff.
Like no time on Olympics.
He's the first guy, you know,
like, and he'd been around, won everything, done everything.
It's just like that's the way he's wired.
So a little bit different for Roy.
For me, like, hey, Rory, if you're satisfied,
if you're happy with all this, you're a Hall of Famer.
You've done something.
Only six people have ever done now.
Congratulations.
Absolutely, no doubt about it.
You have had an unbelievable career.
You're one of the best that ever did it.
I'm fine with it if he wants to be satisfied with it.
There's just some people that aren't.
They just always want more.
I'm interested to see what kind of game he shows up with this week at Oakmont.
Yeah, I mean, it's up to him if he wanted to pack it up and say, that's it.
My whole career goal was to win the Grand Slam.
I did it.
I'm done.
Great.
But I'm surprised to hear it because you don't normally hear from the greatest in the world.
Roy's been one of those guys for decades now.
You don't hear like Nidal won a bunch.
He didn't say, you know, I'm content.
Federer, Joker, all these guys.
It's like when you're at the pinnacle, it seems like they're all wired the same way.
like they want more and more.
They never feel like their spot is safe.
I feel like Scotty's kind of like that.
He's beating the brakes off people,
but he never seems like content.
Speaking of tennis.
How about that French Open final?
Whoa.
That was also.
I'm like the,
I'm a tennis fan in the same way
that golf fans tune in for the U.S.
Open, the Masters,
all the majors, right?
Like that's when I watch.
That I watched like semi-finals and finals.
That was the greatest final match in the history
that I've ever seen.
Alcarus Center.
Can I tell you a little bet I made
with our friends over fanatics?
Yes.
I was bored.
Are you betting tennis now?
I did bet tennis.
Sunday morning, getting ready to go out to the golf course.
I was like, nothing on any little action.
There was a basketball game later that night.
But I was looking at the tennis matchups.
This looks interesting.
Over under for total games played.
41 and a half.
It smashed it.
Winner, winner.
I'm a tennis expert.
You are a tennis expert.
Yeah, three tie breaks.
And the other ones were six four.
Yeah.
Center had triple match point.
in set four,
40 love.
I was like,
and he can't.
I was a little nervous there in set three.
I was like,
oh boy,
if this doesn't go to four,
I got stress here,
but we did it.
And now I'm the greatest
tennis gambler of all time.
You're a tennis guy.
Fire off next time it's,
whatever's the next major.
I'll let you know.
Wimbledon,
let me know you.
I'll let you know.
But you mentioned Scotty Sheffler.
I mean,
he's plus 280 over Fanatics to win.
Just ridiculous odds.
But if you look at the course,
you're talking about it puts all the stress
on your driver.
You got to hit fairways.
he's arguably the best driver of the golf ball on the planet.
I mean, you talk to Brando Chambly, who breaks down all the numbers,
Rory gets all the love for how he drives it.
Statistically, Scotty Sheffler is a better driver of the golf ball
as far as distance and accuracy.
There's no doubt who the best iron player is.
And now that he's a top 20 putter on tour,
he can scramble the shit out of it.
Like, it seems like it would be a really good setup for Scotty.
As much better as Scottie is than everybody else to the world,
every week he comes in with these crazy odds, right?
I don't think there's ever been a week that I'm more on board with Scotty.
Like, it just feels like something.
This just weeds people out so fast.
If you don't, if you have one thing missing in your game, boom, you're done.
The way he drives the golf ball, he's going to play from the fairway a ton of times.
Length, not quite as important this week.
I just feel like it's the other guys that are, you know, factors like a Rory,
who people will say is the greatest.
Like, he'll hit a crooked.
You can hit sideways.
And you just can't do that out here.
And this is also one, Colt, we.
We've talked about this.
The Tiger comparisons come.
Scotty does an unbelievable job as a tournament goes down, winds on of not doing,
making the stupid mental mistake or making the big number or missing in the wrong
spot.
He like never beats himself.
He might get beat occasionally.
Doesn't happen much.
But it's rarely because like, oh, dude, why did I take that flag on and short side
myself and make double?
He never does that.
And what, I mean, the U.S. Open puts you in that situation more than any other set.
Like, if you're not mentally making the right play, you're going to have some monster numbers out there.
And for all those reasons, like, I just, man, it's probably, for the first time ever, if I was going to, I don't bet plus 280 winners in golf, but if I was, this would be the week.
Okay, there you have it.
All right.
So, well, let's get to some gambling with our friends over from that sports.
Scottie's the guy.
Let's go to some other guys.
Listen, we've hit two in a row now as a squad, okay?
You got Sam Burns.
You had him in top 20.
you were debating whether or not to take him top 10,
what you should have done is take him top five.
Same with Seth, but Philly could have the same thing.
You never go broke by taking a profit, though, Cole.
You know who said that?
No.
Warren Buffett.
Well.
And then he wrote Margaritaville.
And then how about, and then he wrote Margaritviel?
I was wondering.
I was like, guys, is he just going to keep going?
How about scare money don't make money, though?
They don't.
That's a true story.
All right.
So let's get to some bets here.
Let's see if we can keep this thing rolling.
As we mentioned, Scottie Shepler, plus 280 over Fanatics.
this is really hard for me not to go this way.
We just talked about how shitty he drove it.
But I believe he has six top tens in a row at U.S. opens.
Oh, here we go.
Roy McRoy, top 10 at plus 120.
Wow.
That does not appeal to me.
Perfect.
That's perfect.
That means I like it even more.
But that's going to be my first.
We're going to go through several of these.
They also got a little same game parlay for you.
Oh, I like that.
You want to go back and forth, trading off once?
All right.
So is Roy.
I was going to say Scotty's the guy, obviously.
Let's go to other people we like to play well.
this week. Is Rory one of them, like for you, outside of Scotty Sheffler? I mean, clearly.
He could win a U.S. Open. All right, I'm going to go with my guy that I think is,
represents the best chance outside Scotty Schaeffler, Colin Morcow.
Okay.
Joe Griner.
Second in driving accuracy on the PJ Tour. Got to have it. Iron play. Scottie's the best.
Collins up there with it.
Top 20 and five of his last six majors. So he plays well on the big stage. And the last four U.S.
fourth, fifth, 14th, 14th,
I'm going to take him at a top 10
plus 210.
I really like Colin.
I think he could really challenge Scotty,
just the way, just peppers,
fairways over and over.
I don't see him
falling too far behind.
I mean, I like Colin Moore and Cowell pretty much everywhere.
I think his game is built for a U.S. Open.
The high fade with the irons,
get it to land soft.
Absolutely.
All right.
Well, my next bet,
Tiles is a top 10 bet as well.
Right around the same odds
as Collinor Cowell plus 200.
I know he was hurt early in the year,
but I feel like he's going to start rounding into form,
and he loves the U.S. Open.
This is his career record at the U.S. Open.
T5, T6, T3, 5th, T7, T14,
shit year in 2022, obviously.
T10, T7.
He's got one finish outside the top 10 of the U.S. Open.
He's a great one.
Come on, Zander Shafle, give it to him X.
Great one.
Great one.
Working his way back.
Unbelievable.
U.S.
Open record.
That's just ridiculous.
I'm so glad he picked off two lines. I was like, this guy, he's been, he plays good
virtually every major, it feels like, give the guy a couple, and now he's got two. So good on
him. All right, moving on to my next play, I'm going to stay in the top 10 range here. We've
talked about Driver, obviously, how important that is, the iron play. I think a sneaky stat,
something that the winner is going to have to be good at, Cole, is putting from, call it
eight feet and in. You mentioned how diabolical those greens are. You can hit greens, have
30-footer, hit it just a fraction too hard, and 15 on the Stint Meal.
and have six feet coming back.
And I think you're going to have to hole a lot of those.
This guy is a U.S. Open champ, also a phenomenal putter, especially a clutch putter,
I would argue one of the best.
And I would say in the conversation for, he's the top, top tier for best drivers of the ball
in the world, John Rom.
21 straight top 10s at live events.
He's a top 10 machine.
We just need another one.
We just need another one right here.
His last three majors, like, when he first went to live, there was so much attention
and all the shit.
like it's understandable that he didn't play well.
Then he had the foot issue, you know, at the U.S. Open.
But the last three, 7th, 14th, and fourth.
And it was tied for the lead on Sunday, but the PGA, too.
Really the only guy that challenged Scotty.
You're never going to hear me say I don't like John Rom at a golf course.
Yeah.
But plus once when he's not great, but I just think, I think Rom's going to have a good week.
All right.
Let's have a little fun here.
I got a couple fun ones for you.
And then also, I just made a same game parlay.
I like this.
Talk to me.
But my first bet, top Asian.
plus 350.
You know where I'm going.
I'm biased, but he's my guy.
And he drives the ball
about as straight as anybody.
If he can just keep his shit together
for four days.
That's the big if.
Hey, you just got to beat the other Asians,
okay?
That's good point.
And then you cash plus 350 with Siwu kill.
Plus 350 for him.
That's a nice jutes.
You know, I kind of put him in the same category
as who I do also like this week.
I don't have a bet for him.
But like Tiro Hatton drives a shit out of it.
All right.
Really good game for a U.S. Open,
but it's just like, can you not lose your fucking mind out there?
Which he might.
They should have a category.
Guys most likely to lose their shit.
Yeah, guys most likely to walk off.
They're never coming back to the U.S. Open.
All right, I like that.
Come on, see, Wu.
Don't let me down.
You want me to do a little nationality bet then?
I'm mixed one.
Yeah, I've got another one.
From your, where you just returned from, top Canadian.
Oh, Canada.
That's right.
Our home and native land.
Yeah, glorious and free.
We got Mack Hughes, Nick Taylor, Taylor Pindrith, and Corey Connors,
representing the boys north of the border.
I'm going to go Corey Conner's plus 140
just because I think you have to hit it great the whole time.
I don't really care what his putter does.
He flushes it.
Ball striking event.
I'll take Corey Conner's out of that mix.
Plus 140.
They only got to beat three others.
Okay.
I like that.
You know what's funny is I'm sitting here talking about it
and I have the Fanatic Sportsbook app up.
And I'm pretty sure they're listening because Siwu's odds just changed
as we just talked about it.
Yeah.
This is absolutely wild.
You think that it eavesdropping on us?
We haven't even released this yet.
Okay, my next one, top rest of the world.
So basically, no Americans, no Europeans.
It's like a presence cup team.
Okay, here we go.
Plus 500.
He's actually the favorite in this category, plus 500,
which you like five to one odds, don't you?
I enjoy them.
The man's won four times this year over on Liv.
Here we go.
I like it.
He's now the all-time most winning player at Liv.
Waukeen Neiman, Waco, plus 500 to be the best of the rest of the world.
I mean, he's a beast over there.
He's doing what we thought John Ron would do when he went over there.
Like, was it four already?
I mean, this year.
It's going to be a runaway player of the year out there.
I mean, unless somebody wins the rest of them.
But I love that.
I think that's undervalued given that he plays on live
and maybe not enough respect given to him.
But, I mean, he's beating those guys week in, week out, like a dog.
So plus 500.
There you have it.
Daddy like you.
Mawako, and he just top ten, his first top ten in a major at the PGA.
Yeah, he's cracking the code, maybe.
He's still a baby, dude, he's still so young.
It's like, we look at his major record.
He's like, oh, it's not very good.
I was like, dude, he was a kid.
Like, you turned pro.
Didn't he turn pro at 17 or something?
Like, he was a child.
So he's seeming to figure it out right now.
All right, I got two more here.
I'm going on from top 10.
I'm going into the top 20 range.
This is a guy I really like this week, too.
Does he have enough gas to win it?
I don't know.
But I think he can definitely play a role.
except Straca.
Yeah.
Okay.
Top 20 plus 160.
I feel confident in the top 20 from it.
I mean, he just drives it straight, not the longest.
That's fine.
Iron plays great.
Really just no, like, glaring weakness.
He's gotten longer, too.
I already got two wins on the season.
The only pause, I guess, when I was looking at it,
is that three missed cuts this year.
Two of them are the majors.
Hadn't played a weekend yet at a major championship.
But U.S. Open, his game.
Yeah.
I feel like Okma, I actually,
drew this comp when they went up there.
I was like, I feel like Philly Cricket's kind of like, it's got a similar kind of
aesthetic and vibe, clearly not as tough, but.
It's in the same state.
That's right.
Good point.
Right down the road.
Philly.
Philly and Pittsburgh.
Home of Aaron Rogers now.
Pennsylvania.
That's right.
Home of Aaron Rogers.
Yeah.
You want to fire your last one off?
Then I'll give you the same game parlay.
Yes.
This is going to feel like a homer pick, probably because it is.
Probably because I just played with them a few days ago.
And I bet them a few times this year.
I believe I'm one in one.
I'm back.
Is this Ches Revy again?
It is not Chesterfield.
It is not Chesterfield.
But this guy feels like Chess with another gear, maybe.
The Chess of old.
JJ Spahn.
You've picked him like seven times.
I have.
I'm going to continue to pick him, dude.
I mean, the players, golf tournament, you got hit fairways, be smart, all that stuff.
Austin, a playoffer Rory.
He's plus 3.30 to top 20.
He's hitting it so good.
13th in Rider Cup standings.
I would bet right now, JJ Spahn will be on that team.
He's going to have another big week.
similar to the players.
Players ask and launch himself into that top 12,
and I think he'll play a Bethpage.
Funny story about that.
So we were on the broadcast yesterday.
I always check my phone,
look to see what's going on in the world.
Get a text from our good friend Todd Martin over Peter Millar.
He said, listen to the coverage,
made some smart-ass comment as he usually does.
He's like, I'm on a bird right now with Riggs, J.J. Spahn and Family.
I'm like, Bird.
I was like, well, I know you didn't pay for it.
Riggs didn't pay for it.
And JJ's way too cheap to pay for Bird.
He goes, by bird, I mean American Airlines with other 153 people.
I was like, okay, that makes way more sense now, Todd.
You can't call that a bird, dude.
I mean, it does fly.
That's different.
I was about to say, who's shit was that?
Yeah, love you, Todd.
A little same game parlay for you, because these are always fun.
Feed me.
Three top 20s, okay?
All three of these guys mention the top 20.
It pays plus 820.
Scotty Sheffler, I feel confident in that one.
That's a good pick.
Zander Shafle.
Strong and then my dark horse, to get the odds.
where they are.
Sea Woo.
Oh,
so you're doubling up on your guys,
basically.
Scotty,
Zander,
CW plus 820.
He's like the X factor.
Yeah.
You really need Coo
to show up and have a week.
Talk to the kid.
I like it.
Talk to the kid.
But it is going to be
an unbelievable week
at the 125th
U.S.
Open at Oklahoma.
Prediction right now,
winner, score,
end score.
Even par.
Level par.
Scotty Sheffler.
That's who your champion is.
I'm going to say,
I'm going to say
Scotty
plus
two.
Plus two.
Okay.
I like it.
Fingers crossed plus two.
I'll say this.
The harder it plays, the higher the winning score is, the more a pile on Scott.
Look what just happened in Memorial where it's set up.
This is going to be even tougher.
Yep.
Yep.
Without question.
It's going to be fun as hell, though.
We don't get many weeks like this.
This is, in my opinion, this is like the pinnacle of difficulty in golf.
And they ain't messing around out there from the looks of it.
No.
Everyone enjoy the U.S. Open.
I cannot.
wait to sit on the couch. I just did nine weekends in a row, and I'm going to sit at home and watch
this one myself. Nine times. And yell at the TV and tell these broadcasters how dumb they are.
Nine, yeah. Did you? That's not a cop out. That was like a ball out.
BG, we got a cool thing happening this week. Heading up to Sin City, Las Vegas, two play,
one of the greatest places in the country.
I heard of it. Shadow Creek, but special under the lights.
Nine holes. That's going to be sick. Battle. You and I under the lights. We might have some
special guests joining us. But nine holes, back nine at Shadow Creek.
Under the lights, I cannot wait.
We're going to document the whole thing.
It's going to be special.
And as always, Liz, we're going to be using our golf pride grips.
Oh, of course, dude.
We're not idiots.
When it comes to feel, consistency, and control, Golf Pride has it dialed.
The new Align Max features raised-rids technology that fits the natural contours of your hands,
helping you place your hands in the same spot every time for a more repeatable swing.
And don't sleep on your putter grip.
The reverse taper from Golf Pride is designed with a slightly larger lower hand to stabilize both hands
and promote a square putter face at impact.
The most important split second in golf.
It's now available in small sizes and three shapes
to fit any putting style.
Get 20% off a full set,
up to 13 swing grips and one putter grip
at golf pride.com with code subpar 20,
now through August 31st, Golf Pride,
respect the grip.
You got to respect the grip.
I'm mid-sized up.
I told you that, dude.
I'm not.
Game changer.
You should give it a little dabble.
Now, my mitts are too small.
Yeah, that's true.
Maybe a regular feels like a mid-sized tube.
Maybe that's what I've been lacking.
I kind of like where my game's at right now, if I'm being totally honest,
and you're going to get to see it up at Shadow.
The line on the match could move drastically in the hours leading up to the match.
Given, I don't know how we ever could see movements like this in a betting market,
given whatever takes place during the day,
being in Vegas from whatever time you wake up until eight at night,
trying to get ready for a round of golf,
