Starting point is 00:00:01 All right, how we doing, everyone? Welcome back to Subpar with Colt Nost and Drew Stoltz, the sleazy man over in Scotland, looking rather chilly, my man. Dude, we just wrapped up 36 whole day, buddy. You know how we always talk about going into like the open championship? Like, what are we hoping for? Dude, I hope they get wind.
Starting point is 00:00:31 I hope they get sideways rain. And then it ends up being 70 and they're like spinning back lob wedges. Well, we got the real open championship weather out here. Dude, this place is unbelievable. It's my first trip out here. So there's two courses. We played the non-main course today. Tomorrow we play, I think it's called Aalza, Eliza, something like that.
Starting point is 00:00:53 That's the main course at Turnberry. I don't know the pronunciation. That's the one that's the big boy course. And it is unbelievable. It's my first experience playing in Link's golf. And we're getting all the conditions, all the stuff, and we were having a blast, although we are losing after day one. So I checked in on you this morning.
Starting point is 00:01:13 Saw you and Kitty lost, I believe, three and two first. And then you took my man Peter Thomas Sulo under your wing, and I believe y'all got a one-up victory in the afternoon. Me and me and Kitty, like, there's matches that you lose. There's matches you get beat. We got beat this morning. We played good golf. It was blowing a million.
Starting point is 00:01:33 It's raining. You know, it's coming sideways at times. We shot like four under. We lost to a, they played an incredible golf. They shot seven under. We lost three and two. And then I go out with P.D. Thomas Sulo, our guy, this afternoon. And we played a team that's been in the last two, they've been at least at the last two
Starting point is 00:01:51 Bridges Cups. They've never been split up and they've never lost in four ball or four sums. They've never lost. They're like seven, eight, no, something like that. And we actually clipped them one up. We got them. Yes, we got a big point. I think we're three points down.
Starting point is 00:02:05 I think it's six and a half to three and a half. Big point, dude, it's been awesome. It's been, it's so fun, man. Like, it's been really good golf, really high caliber golf, I feel like. But it's also like, I mean, this course we play tomorrow, the main course, there's par four that are like, there's three or four that are driver three wood. For like anyone on our mini drivers coming into part fours, then you'll turn around to play a downwind par five and it's like driver seven iron,
Starting point is 00:02:33 something like that. It is, there's like four holes. where like maybe you can make a birdie on this and then the rest of them is just like buckle up try to make a par everywhere and alternate shot is just a fucking gong show it's so fun like dude like bogey can win a ton double could possibly win there's gorse
Starting point is 00:02:49 everywhere it's uh it's it's it's really fun just different no cookie cutter golf out here I mean once again team USA just sucking it up in the team format what come on guys yeah although I think we sucked
Starting point is 00:03:05 worse in the better ball than we did in the alternate shot. I could be wrong on that, but it was fairly close. Bottom line is we got to tighten up an alternate shot across the U.S. We don't have the formula for Captain Furek at this moment, but we got another chance tomorrow morning. It's supposed to be a little less. I mean, it's been blowing like 30, 30 miles an hour, 35 at times. Tomorrow morning it's supposed to be a little bit less, and I think no rain too.
Starting point is 00:03:33 So maybe a little better. tomorrow but yeah real deal holy field yeah you look you look a little chilly over there you got a lot of layers going on over here how would you say your game fits links golf so dude today the practice rounds colt i was hitting these like quefe heel cuts into the wind i was like dude i'm hitting it a 212 yard like it's crazy how short it will go today thank god uh i figured it out and played like played good golf today But it's fun. Like, dude, we'll be up there, but Caddy will come up. He's been here 30 years at Turnberry.
Starting point is 00:04:08 We'll get up there and it'll be like, all right, dude, we got 131 hole. I'm going to need your 179. I'm going to need your 180 shot. I'm like, all right. Cool. So just add 50. That's all. Dude, it's like, but you could hit like a four iron and try to chase it if you want
Starting point is 00:04:25 or you could hit it through the air. It's so much more fun, honestly, than like our golf that we buy. I love. US golf. I love all the stuff down there, but there's so, like, two guys can hit two shots that look nothing like one another and end up relatively in the same place. And there's just so many more options on all the shots. It's, it's been really cool. I like it. I don't think I, by no means, do I have it mastered at all, but it's really fun to hit the shot. Other than the food, the place is sweet. Yeah. Yeah. No, no question about it. And this is when, this is the time of
Starting point is 00:04:58 year they should host the Open Championship because I don't know if you watch the Dunhill like we've been watching the Dunhill because at the same time over here it's the only thing you can watch everything else is like reverse and it's awesome they're wearing beanies and it's blowing a million I'm like yeah dude that's the same that's the same thing we got over here it's great well I love it well hopefully you'll play some good golf the next couple of days bring this home bring the title home for team USA at the bridge we got to go we'll be following along um so let's play a little golf uh myself this weekend three days of in a row with Mr. John Rom. And let's just say the Spaniard is not happy with me at the moment.
Starting point is 00:05:36 Oh, is that right? Does he still have it? Would you, would you click? He's tied on cash. So three days. They'll be careful. Three days in a row, obviously I'm not allowed to be on his team. So battle.
Starting point is 00:05:46 We had sixums the first two days. So three on three battle. One and one in that. And then myself and Joe Griner took the wheel against John Rom, the doctor and Tony Bagnesi and let me tell you something but this might have been the upset of the century we smashed them okay
Starting point is 00:06:04 John Rom it's a no stroke game except for he had to give back on three holes so just three holes that's it everything else straight up and part three is basically but no we didn't and number four he chose to go number four drivable par four number eight the par five
Starting point is 00:06:22 and number 18 because he was only one that could get there He got to choose them. Yeah, he was blown, it was blowing 30 miles an hour here in Scottsdale. He made seven birdies the first day, which is like average for these conditions, got smoked. He made 10 the second day, and they won. And then yesterday. Yeah, that's good. Saturday, 30 mile an hour wind, I threw six birdies at him to his four.
Starting point is 00:06:46 And Griner and I took home the title and the cash. And John Rom literally actually just text me some not so nice things and said, we'll be playing straight up. from now on. I'm like straight up. Yeah, that feels fair. Yeah. That feels like a fair bat. You're the third best golfer in the world. I'm a media guy. Do you want to play me straight up just because I got lucky a couple of times? Come on now. Yeah, that's straight up.
Starting point is 00:07:08 Yeah, who would you take in that match, Leas? If you guys do do that, let me know. Let me know. I'm going to come back soon and I would like to be a part of that. But if it's if it's straight up losing, dude, he don't like losing in anything. No, he doesn't. And I, and that's one thing honestly, I love about him. It can be the Rider Cup, the Masters, or the high, low game at Whisper Rock. His attitude and fireness, fireiness is the exact same. I've seen him.
Starting point is 00:07:34 I've played with him. He's broke multiple clubs playing with him. I'm like, dude, you're losing $400. You're going to be okay. It is signed for $400 million. Things are going to be just fine. By the way. It's going to work out.
Starting point is 00:07:45 But I like to see that. Actually, as we're recording this, he is scheduled to become a father of four today. So congrats to him and Kelly. keep he keeps making them i'm talking before i'm like when do you when do you hit the stop button do you think when you hit eject and he's like no we're gonna have an enormous family i was like yeah well you he says this is it so congrats to him and kelly by the time this comes out they'll have a little baby girl which uh which will be number four it's awesome man but it's so much fun uh playing with him we had some good football this weekend as well by uh my weekend here coming up we're heading
Starting point is 00:08:18 to austin for the texas florida game you and i were discussing how it could be possibly the game of the year, one versus two, game day there, everything, and then Florida gets dumped trucked by 100 against Missouri and just ruined everything. Yeah, the SEC is hard to figure out. Hard to figure out right now. Ole Miss wins the big one against LSU, gets dummied by Florida. Florida goes and does that against Missouri. I missed all of it this week.
Starting point is 00:08:39 All I know is that my beloved TCU horn frogs did not cover as it anticipated. The rain helped that thing be closer than it should have been. But it's been tough. Broncos got dummy too. I saw, which was like at like three in the morning over here. Didn't get to watch any of it. Woke up, saw it lost by 10. Not a great week.
Starting point is 00:08:59 Not a great week for the sleaze. I got nothing really. I really knew the Broncos like turn around, figure it out, and make a move because otherwise I got zero to root for right now. I just probably started leaning into Notre Dame. Okay. Yeah. Just go over there to the Irish. You know, they're doing okay.
Starting point is 00:09:16 I just picked that one. I'll pick that one. By the way, a good friend of mine on the table. on the team, on the Bridges Cup team, my boy, Scotty Strickland, knows our girl that offered up the box. Really? And they, on the, and the golf at, he said, if you go, he's like, dude, you should take that box at Notre Dame.
Starting point is 00:09:33 That's an all-time offer. But if you come to Oakland Hills and play and you don't play with me, we're going to kill you. So we'll go play with Scotty, but also he knows Kathy. I like that. Well, yeah. So we got a good beach for a guy. Yesterday or Saturday night, I was out watching some football with some of the fellas. a little facetime from our boy Mike Illig.
Starting point is 00:09:52 He was with Boozy Susie. Shout out Boosie. Yep. She was livin in the flesh. She was so excited. I was like, why is Mike FaceTiming me? And then that's the reason because Boosy Susie wanted to make an appearance. So of course.
Starting point is 00:10:08 Shout out to them. Also, shout out to our friends over at upbeat sound sleaze because they, you know, allow me to watch the games while I'm out there slapping John Rom around. And if you're playing golf without one of these things during football season, you're just doing it wrong. All you got to do is get one of these upbeat sounds, attaches to your steering wheel in 30 seconds, and bam, you are watching football. It's waterproof. It is heatproof. And right now, if you go to upbeatSound.com, use code subpar 10, you get 10% off your entire order.
Starting point is 00:10:40 So upbeat sound. Dot code subpar 10. I like that everybody starts yelling when I'm trying to do an ad read. Are you hearing that right now? We got a lot of rowdy. We got a lot of rowdy Americans right here, dude. We're down. We're trying to rally the troops.
Starting point is 00:10:54 Tell them to call down. We're putting together pairings. Everybody's talks shit about who they want to be paired with and don't want to be fair. Like not him, dude. It's it fucking crooked. Yeah, I love it. Yeah, that's how they need to do it at the Ryder Cup. Just sit around, have a few pops.
Starting point is 00:11:12 Everybody go around the circle and say who you want to play with. Perfect. I like that. I like that. Yeah. Also, before we get to our interview, Got to give a huge shout out to Tom Kim. Gold medal, Asian games,
Starting point is 00:11:23 gets to bypass the mandatory military service for Korean men. That was so massive. I don't know if you saw the clip of him making the put on the last to win. But the emotion that came out. Congratulations, Tom Kim. I know that was a huge weight off your shoulders. That was so cool. Dude, the, like, emotion he showed doing that.
Starting point is 00:11:42 Like, the clutchness of that, I don't know if you can compare it to, like, dude, he's a beast in the President's Cup. We've seen it. His game started to come around again. He won on the PGA tour. But like, that's a career. Like, you got to do that at some point. Or else.
Starting point is 00:11:57 Sang Moon Bay. Like, you can go through the, like, there's guys that you get that. And you don't come back. You can't take two years off of competitive. I don't care if you're practicing, playing whatever job you get over there. You can't come back and be the same guy that you were. Like, to win that on the heels of the President's Cup,
Starting point is 00:12:13 where he left, like, before the matches even ended too, had to have it, win or go. go home. Like, he is the favorite, of course, but like, dude, there's some, there's some good players over there. Uh, you know, the ASU kid now that came out was that Winnie Ding, like there's a lot of guys that can go and to win or go home. Well, Winnie Dings from China, but whatever. Yeah, but he was in the games. He was in the games. Yeah. Uh, the winner go home and to pull that out, man, that's, that's, um, that's pretty cool deal. Pretty cool. That's, what a huge weight off his shoulders that you got, like, knowing that since you turn pro, like, I got to pick this off
Starting point is 00:12:52 at some point or else, like, my golf career is going to take a big pause. Yeah, I mean, that's two years where, yes, you're allowed to play golf, but listen, you're not, you're not going about it like you normally do. You're not getting better in those two years while everybody else is, and you're not getting any younger. So to go over there knowing what you had to do to get to skip that military service and he got it done, huge congratulations to him. And also my fellow SMU Mustang, Austin Smotherman, who won the Bank of Utah Championship out at Black Desert. His first win on the PGA tour in his 100th career start. As we got a little special guest appearance for Andy.
Starting point is 00:13:27 Look at Dumb Dome, Andy. Look at Andy back there. God, damn. He's in the house. We should never film a podcast in the evening with you. I got Johnny Peterson. Oh, I got Johnny Peterson here. We got the whole, we got Kitty here.
Starting point is 00:13:42 We got all the guys. We played a practice around yesterday on the big boy course, like I talked about. Peter, and Johnny and I were partners. Yeah, he's terrible. He got done. We got done playing. He said, and we played it all the way back. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:13:57 We didn't know where all the T's were going to be. So we just like, screw it. We'll go all the way back. Blowing 30-ish the whole time, maybe more. And he's like, I think that was the hardest golf course I've ever played my life. If I had to add him up, he's like, that might have been the hardest day of golf I've ever played my life. It was awesome. I love that.
Starting point is 00:14:14 I hope it blows a hundred tomorrow. You're hitting lumber into every single hole that's not downwind. All of it. That's good. It's two iron. Yeah. It's playing 248. Okay, got it.
Starting point is 00:14:28 We are down three points. Stop embarrassing your country, okay? Represent. Look, dude. You know what the USA. You see Chicago? You see Madonna. You see what happened in singles.
Starting point is 00:14:38 We're going to pick off a couple tomorrow. They got some good teams. I'm not going to lie. They got some great players over here. They got some U.S. Mid-D. They got literally every midam. or amateur champ of every country in Europe.
Starting point is 00:14:49 We're going to pick off one or two tomorrow and get it closer during singles and do what we do. All right. Well, I'm wishing you the best of luck. Don't not embarrass me or the United States of America. But let's get to our guest who picked himself off a W this year over on the Corn Ferry Tour, and he is headed to the PGA tour for the first time.
Starting point is 00:15:08 Alistair Docherty joins us on subpar. All right, we have got the pride of Chico State with us here today, wrapping up what I believe to be his final corned ferry tour season because next year he's going to be playing right where he belongs. He is tourbound. Alistair Doherty joins us. What's up, brother? Congrats. It's up, man.
Starting point is 00:15:26 Feels good, doesn't it? Yeah, it sure does. Tour bound. That's got a, that's nice. Yeah, it's a big monkey off the back. Yeah, especially, I mean, for people that don't know your story, I mean, you've come so close, so many times. So to get it done this year and know that next year you're going to be on the PGA tour, is it just like a huge weight off your shoulders? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:44 I mean, there's not really a bad year to get a PGA tour card, but this is a pretty good one. You're exactly right. Going into with 2028, all the changes coming, championship series, challenger series, to be out on the tour in 2027. I mean, that's a golden opportunity right there. Yeah, have a chance to kind of set your future up really well. Yeah. When was the official to it, was it a couple weeks ago that it was like official official? They gave me the tourbound logo when I was in in Nashville. Yeah, so Vanderbilt, yeah, a couple weeks ago maybe or whatever.
Starting point is 00:16:16 Does it feel weird, like Tying it up after? I mean, obviously you're still planning to play well, but it's like the whole goal, the whole year, every tournament you've played on the nation, Corn for a tour tour tour, it's like, get a tour card, get a tour card. Now you got it. Does it feel like different playing in those events? Yeah, I kind of, I kind of backed off a little bit. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:33 You know, it was a big, big sigh of relief. I kind of took the foot off the gas pedal and didn't really play all that well the last two weeks. But it's, it's really nice to have a tour card and, you know, I'm prepping for next year. Yeah, that's a luxury. And it's probably a different feeling too, where it's like for the first time. You're going to keep playing, but I accomplished the goal. I accomplished my goal. Yeah. You know, you can, you can set more goals, but at the end of the day, the goal was to get PJ tour card. Yeah, that's nice. Let's go back to 2024 because you were there, Corn Ferry Tour Championship, French lick. You need a two-way tie for second to get your PJ
Starting point is 00:17:10 tour guard. You go out there. You play your out. off. You're in a two-way tie for second. And all of a sudden, bam, Doc Redmond, Bertie's a 72nd hole, knocks you out. But it's not all lost yet. You get a chance at Q school. You go to Q school. You're inside the top five. Struggled the last day and missed out, I believe, a shot there as well. Like, just take, we've all been through the struggles of professional golf. Like, it can beat you down. Just tell us what that year was like, no, when you came so close twice. Yeah, I mean, I also came pretty close at Myrtle Beach. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:41 Earlier that year as well, finishing second there, Goddardrop obviously won that by six. But, you know, it was it was tough at the time. You know, I wanted to kind of put the blame on other people. You know, I wanted to hate Doc Redmond, even though he's the most likeable guy out there. You know, why couldn't you just miss that put? But, yeah, I mean, I had it in my fingertips at Final Stage of Q school,
Starting point is 00:18:07 and I guess I hit a nine-hour. with a lot of adrenaline for 165 yards and flew the green. So, you know, you learned from it. You try to get better every day. But in the back of my mind, I was trying to blame all these other people for, you know, coming up a little short. That put me in a pretty dark spot. What was it like going back to French Lake?
Starting point is 00:18:30 There was two guys, Doc, and then someone else had to make like a mid-range put, right? That if he missed, like, if he made it, like, one of the things, he needed to miss, I believe. where you were in the clubhouse, like, surrounded by other players, I assume. And, like, that's got to be a weird moment. Like, then he makes it. And you're like, half the people that are, like, super close friends with him are probably thrilled, or, you know, with the guy that got in. And then you're there, too, and it's got to be an awkward dynamic.
Starting point is 00:18:53 Yeah, so it was between me and Noah Goodwin. And Noah's a good friend of mine. And obviously, I wanted him to have the chance as well. But I obviously wanted myself to get to the tour. And to see, I think it was Brian Campbell at the time. that made that put. It didn't change Brian Campbell's thing. It changed between me and Noah Goodwin.
Starting point is 00:19:15 You know, it's tough. I was surrounded by my family was there. I was literally a table across from Noah and his family. I was excited for him, but really bummed out for myself. And to see all of our peers, you know, celebrate with him, that was tough to kind of swallow too. But, you know, I'm a gentleman. I stood up.
Starting point is 00:19:36 I wished him well. I said congratulations. I wanted him to have as much as much success as possible. And, you know, I went about my business and tried to get a tour card the other way. You're a class act. That'd be a nice one to be alone for, like, that was probably one big. I'd like to be just in a room by myself. Whether he goes in or he'll only miss us.
Starting point is 00:19:55 Sure. Just that's tough. Yeah. I mean, with him right there. Absolutely. At the time when I finished, I actually sat down at his table with his family and my family was coming in and we were like, oh, I guess we should probably. Oh, shit.
Starting point is 00:20:08 You probably split up here. One of us is going to be happy. And the families are there. That's awkward as hell. And his family's great too. I mean, no is a good friend. Yeah. Go to the final round at Q School because you were inside the number comfortably.
Starting point is 00:20:23 And I believe you shot three over on that front nine. And I'm sure things were spiraling. But can you remember like going back to that morning what it was like getting ready to go out there knowing, okay, here, I got another chance. And here it is. It's all right there. I can go out there and I can take care of business. I'll have nobody to blame but myself if I don't get this done today. What was that morning and that round?
Starting point is 00:20:43 Like, had to be one of the toughest rounds of your life. Yeah, I mean, it was nerve-wracking. I felt really calm in the morning, but once you stepped foot out on property at TPC, it was the nerves were hitting. Man, I mean, I go back and look at that round of golf, and, you know, there was like a couple shots that were a little squirly. But other than that, I gave me.
Starting point is 00:21:08 myself a lot of chances. I just could not get the ball in the hole. I made one bad mistake on the very first hole. I tried to get a little greedy with a bunker shot. And I ended up leaving it in the bunker. And then I had no chance from there and made a really bad double. But it was battling from then on. And I gave my, like I said, I gave myself lots of chances. I just couldn't get the ball in the hole. Putter kind of went cold at the wrong time. It's a cruel game. Yeah. It's weird to play around a golf where it's like this round, you play so many rounds of golf in your life. They like, honestly, don't matter. It's like, all right. I'm in 45th.
Starting point is 00:21:39 If I play great, I move to 30th, whatever. Like, this doesn't really mean much. But to have one round where it's like, this changes my life. Yeah. It's a crazy, and it's not like one moment. It's, you've got to keep it together like five hours out there. It's such a strange feeling.
Starting point is 00:21:53 Because you just get that, like, how many times it's not fun. It's not fun. It's not fun. When guys are trying to win a tournament, it's like, you know, they've made a ton of money. They've already won on the PJ tour. They're going to be on the PJ tour. Like, that's cool to win, and it's awesome and it's helpful.
Starting point is 00:22:04 But it's not like, this changes everything about my life. Just one round of golf. Yeah. I mean, like I said, I didn't really feel like I was playing that bad. I hit a couple squirly shots. But for the most part, if you were to look at who was hitting it closer in that final group in that pairing, I had the most birdie chances and I just scored the worst. So it's just golf, man.
Starting point is 00:22:27 It was crazy. It was a crazy day. Obviously, we're going to talk about the great times and celebrate the great times. But, I mean, you've got to talk all negative shit. When are we going to get off this, please? But your story is just unreal. Like it seriously is. I mean,
Starting point is 00:22:42 people, I don't think appreciate what all you have been through to get to where you're going to go now. Now the rest of the golf world is going to get to know who you are next year, playing at the biggest stage. But when you have this, and then you get in this terrible car accident. And I mean, honestly,
Starting point is 00:22:56 your career had to be somewhat in jeopardy after all this. Yeah. It for sure did. And that was, you know, all I could really think about while I was in that hospital bed. for eight hours or whatever it was. Yeah, it was a very scary moment in Knoxville last year.
Starting point is 00:23:16 And I wish nobody ever has to deal with something like that. I still wake up every day and thank the Lord that I'm alive. And I battle demons when I try to stay away from Tennessee, to be honest with me. That state just doesn't really like me. So, yeah, that was a scary spot. It's amazing to see you come through all that because, I mean, I don't think there would have been a lot of people that would blame you if you're like, you know what, maybe this just isn't meant to be for me. Maybe there's something else down the road, but you stuck with it. And now you're heading to the PJ tour where you belong.
Starting point is 00:23:53 Yeah. I made a lot of changes like we chatted about a little bit ago. I wanted to give it one last go. I went through a really dark time after that car crash and beat myself up over. every little decision that I've made and decided to give it one last go this year and put everything that I had forward and made some changes in my life that have obviously really paid off. So you gave yourself this year. Like if you didn't do it, were you honestly going to probably step away?
Starting point is 00:24:23 We all say that. Yeah. Yeah. But with how worried I was for my own well-being, yeah, I think I might have stepped away. That's crazy. And I feel like anyone that's chased it as long as you did. Like I had these moments too where you're strapped on cash. You're not playing good and all this.
Starting point is 00:24:42 And the thoughts enter your mind. Of course. Like you're only human. But what was there like a specific moment? Like I want to call it rock bottom. But you know what I mean? Where you're like this is when I contemplated. Just shutting it down the most.
Starting point is 00:24:52 Yeah, it was last year at Q school, at final stage of Q school. I wanted redemption from the year before. I pushed myself so much during the off season after, after French Lick last year. the Corn Ferry Championship to get ready and be prepared for Q school to have one last go. And I showed up there and shot a million. I mean, it was, it was not even, I get it. I mean, it was, I couldn't even figure out how I played so well the year before with how bad I was playing. And so I, I actually did not touch a club after Q school until maybe a couple days before I left
Starting point is 00:25:30 for the Bahamas at the beginning of the year. No shit. Yeah. That's hard to do. Yeah. It was really tough. I'll tell you one thing I didn't know too going back, because you mentioned Myrtle finishing second to Godder up
Starting point is 00:25:40 and you kept your card comfortably on the corned ferry tour, been a good player out there, hadn't gotten over the hump, but then you get a PJ tour to start. You finish second. And from the outside looking in, you're like, oh, this is, everything's going great here. But I heard you talk about after that event.
Starting point is 00:25:52 Like, I was in a money situation there, which is, like, when you're that good on the cornfrey tour, I don't think a lot of people realize, like, it's still touch and go in terms of can I keep playing? And you're good enough to almost win a tour event at the time. Yeah. It still is the biggest check I've ever made, the second place at Myrtle. Big boy.
Starting point is 00:26:11 Yeah, it was at a very good time. I was very strapped for cash. I just got done with the long out-of-the-country stuff with Corn Ferry and didn't play all that great. But it wasn't awful, but I broke even. And, you know, doing all the travel and paying a caddy and making sure that you're, you know, at the top of your game, and it, it wears on you. You know, and I didn't ever want to have to go back to caddy in, but I thought about it. And then obviously took advantage of the opportunity that I had in Myrtle,
Starting point is 00:26:45 and that freed me up a little bit. And then I had, obviously, a couple good finishes on the corned ferry stuff. And then, you know, second place at the Tour championship just missed out. Yeah, and then, I mean, this year, let's go to this. I mean, you pick up your first win, which I got to hear about this putting grip situation we got going on here. Because I heard this is, are you using an extra regular round grip on
Starting point is 00:27:08 your putter? I have 14 of the exact same grips on my putt's. Oh, hell yeah. Does that work? You know, I was working with a putting coach this offseason. We were doing a bunch of drills and I just couldn't get my hands to sit properly. I kept hitting the teas. I
Starting point is 00:27:24 couldn't get it started online and I grabbed a wedge and I told them I put so good with a wedge. What's the difference? He goes, well, what do you feel? It's like, well, my hands don't have any flat part. I just grip it and I roll it and I'm looking at a spot and I roll it over the spot. There's nothing else to it.
Starting point is 00:27:42 He goes, all right. It's like, hmm. So I went home. I grabbed a putter that I really love to look at, the neck and the line and all that stuff. And I just threw a regular grip on it, cut it down to just short of what my 60-degree wedge is. And I went out to TPC and pretty much hooped all day. I was okay, maybe I'll take this to Argentina first week when. First week with it in an actual way.
Starting point is 00:28:08 First week. It's weird how that works. First week, win. Still using it? Still using it. So it's funny, and I have a feeling this is why I called him on Sunday, but I can't exactly remember why I called him. But the first person I ever saw do this, Steve Elkington, at the very end of his career,
Starting point is 00:28:22 did it. And I used to play a lot with Steve back in the day. And I'm like, what are you doing? He goes, well, every other grip is this way. Why not just put it on the putter too? Yeah. And I was like, oh, I kind of. Kind of makes sense.
Starting point is 00:28:33 And then I heard you did it. I was like, holy shit, that's amazing. Yeah. I mean, if there's, if there's one part of my game
Starting point is 00:28:38 that, you know, is something that needs to be worked on, it's putting and then short game. But if the putter starts feeling good, I kind of take care of business. Yeah. I mean,
Starting point is 00:28:49 yeah, you stripe it. There's no doubt about that. Actually, talk to Will Gordon, who you played on the Palmer Cup team with. Love Will. And I think he said you were like cross-handed claw.
Starting point is 00:28:57 Yeah. At the Palmer Cup. Oh, hell yeah. Hell yeah. That's when we're scraping the bottom. And it was probably my best putting year on, you know, for a long time. That was senior year of college. I just reverse claw.
Starting point is 00:29:10 It's nice. Yeah, we got a buddy that does it too. We call it the natural. Natural. Yeah. I was like he was born with the butter in his hand. Has anyone else? Because, I mean, dude, golfers are the biggest copycats in the world.
Starting point is 00:29:20 They see somebody put well with something like, if it's a little bit different, they'll go try it. Have you converted anyone? I'm not going to take credit. Okay. But. But. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:30 When I was living down in Palm Desert, caddying at the vintage club at the time, I played some golf with Joe Highsmith, and he was working on a bunch of different grips, and I told him, I put it this way. And he still does it. Really? Yeah. He puts reverse claw. With an actual?
Starting point is 00:29:47 No, I think he uses a super stroke. But he reverse claw, left-handed, and he also closes his eyes. That's weird. Yeah. That's tough. I think he's quoted in one of his interviews. Yeah, he closes his eyes. Some of these things are going.
Starting point is 00:30:00 Sergio. He won in Mississippi doing it. But it's like you see these guys that it's like reverse split grip, claw, eyes closed. And it's like where you go from here? If this doesn't, you know, it's like we're running out of weird shit to do at this point. The ball just needs to go in the hole. Yeah. Just find something.
Starting point is 00:30:14 Yeah. So the circle grid, the round grip is still on there, I assume, right? It is. That's not. You've just got a bunch of our listeners. I bet to go check that out. I'm actually intrigued as well. Probably way cheaper than like a big fancy putting grip.
Starting point is 00:30:25 For sure. Yeah. And, you know, if you put your hands on it, it doesn't matter how your hands. are, it's a circle. Like, there's no, there's no flat area. So your thumb doesn't have to go right down the middle of the flat spot. It's just wherever you want. It's just wherever your hands feel comfortable. It's funny you say that because I mean, I worked with Randy Smith my entire career. And when we would put, he would always have me get my lob wedge or my sand wedge and put, but it was mostly just a focus on solid center contact. Because if you miss hit a sandwich,
Starting point is 00:30:51 it's going to pop up in the area, you're driving to the ground one of the two. And it is amazing how good you roll it because you're so focused on just nice, solid contact. Yeah, which you have to when you have that small of grip and that small of a sweet spot on a on a wedge remember that never compromised the stubby yeah oh yeah I love that thing like there was actually there was another one down here some the lady designed it McCord used to put with it for a little bit but but yeah yeah a guy who are used it yeah one of the European guys can remember yeah that thing was just a little bloody like you could whiff it yeah I mean on if you have a 50 foot or uphill yeah I could hit this 12 feet sideways like I should probably just go to get a wood yeah yeah yeah yeah
Starting point is 00:31:29 That feels like it makes it the hardest. Yeah. You can possibly. I have a feeling I know the answer to this next question, but PGA Tour, full-time member next year, what event are you looking forward to the most? I have three that are circled on my calendar so far. The first one, obviously, the Amex, which is my first start. But the most of, you know, the one that I'm most ready for is waste management.
Starting point is 00:31:54 Yeah, I figured that's going to be the answer. A home sweet home. Yeah. I practice out at TPC almost every day that I'm. home. I've played out there enough times to know every, you know, angle, you know, pin location, all that. And just to be inside the ropes instead of sitting on 16 in a box or walking around is, it's going to be really special. I will say that's a good reason to make sure you keep the foot on the gas the next couple of weeks because the better that priority ranking,
Starting point is 00:32:20 obviously, I don't think you're going to have trouble getting him. But yeah, I think they've changed that. Yeah, everybody from Corcornery gets in. That's good. Yeah, it would be nice to have a So that's two. What was the third? I want to qualify for the Masters. That's a good one. Yeah. I mean, I think that's what everybody wants to be in.
Starting point is 00:32:37 So obviously, you need to, I need to play really well, win one, or move inside the top 50. But good play always takes care of everything. And you played major championship this year. You played the Open because you won in Argentina, which is really cool. Royal Burkdale. I know you missed the Cup. But I played one Open Championship. And I think it's the coolest tournament.
Starting point is 00:32:57 It was awesome. There was nothing. that you could ask, oh, I wish they would have had this or that, but if you just asked somebody there, they would get it for you. The most, yeah, I was so worried about how I was going to get around because we didn't have courtesy cars. We had courtesy chauffeurs. I mean, it was a text or an email,
Starting point is 00:33:14 and they were there within five to ten minutes. And however many you had in your party, they would take you wherever you wanted. The dining situation, you never really know what you're going to get when you go overseas and trying to get reservation, certain places, but dining at the golf course was from, 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. And you could take to go food.
Starting point is 00:33:32 It was incredible. Whatever you wanted. They had it. Do you remember your tea times? Yeah. It's like 4. No, it's like 4 o'clock p.m. the first day. So I was 4.10 and I was just like, holy shit, what do I do all day? I had no idea. I wanted to go to the golf course when I woke up. Do you watch it?
Starting point is 00:33:51 I did. Yeah. It would be hard not to. Yeah. What else are you going to do? Exactly. You know, half the field was already done before I teed off. And he learned some shit around there.
Starting point is 00:34:00 Like, is that your first run at Link's Golf? Like, real Links Golf? In 2016, I played Palmer Cup right down the road from Burkdale. Okay. So one event prior to that? Yeah, that's when Willie G. was my partner. Yeah. Oh, that was so much fun.
Starting point is 00:34:11 That's cool. Yeah. But I'm with you, like, 14. You walking off the golf course after 9 o'clock at night. Yes. I think it was like 9.30. Yeah. And we walked right into dining, ordered some food to go and went back to the house.
Starting point is 00:34:22 What an event, though. Oh, it was amazing. Do you play any practice around with anybody, cool? Yes. Jake Knapp and I, played with uh jordan spieth and justin thomas oh okay there you and not versus them to yep yep and uh j t made eagle on 17 and we owed him a little bit of cash but it was it was one of the coolest shots i've seen in person he had a three wood up into the wind from like two 70 to like eight
Starting point is 00:34:47 feet made it for eagle um but just seeing how they went about their business and um even though you were playing a little game or whatever it was so professional um they got their work done as well as still having fun with the boys. Yeah, that's pretty sweet. And you and I talked about this in Kansas City a couple weeks ago, but I was like, it's hard as hell to get off the cornfrey tour. The guys are so good, the scores are so low. You're also playing golf courses, I feel like that bring it all in, right?
Starting point is 00:35:14 Like you don't have to hit it like you hit it on the PGA tour. I feel like you're so much more well-suited your game, the way you hit it to play well on the PGA tour than the cornfrey tour where it's just like drivers, wedges make puts over and over. Yeah, thank you. Would you agree with that? I do agree. I think there's certain places on the Corn Ferry Tour that, you know, it's kind of a wedge fest and kind of a putting competition.
Starting point is 00:35:38 But with the way that I strike the ball and the way I go about my game, I think when we get to a ball strikers golf course, which most of the PGA tour is, I can kind of separate myself a little bit that way. Yeah, they don't have like a Torrey Pines or, you know, some of that. You play a couple, like Victoria National is a, that's a big yard. There's a couple. But it's like the whole season. You get in the Midwest, like where, you know, you have been on the schedule. And it's like 25 under is going to win this week. And if you shoot par for nine holes, you got stressed.
Starting point is 00:36:10 Yeah, I mean, like we talked about in Kansas City, I shot 20 under through four rounds. And I was T24. I mean, they were just crazy. There was as much wind as this room and the greens were good. And it's the country club. Yeah. Did you see Sleez out there with the headset on and everything? I walked with this group.
Starting point is 00:36:26 Did you? I was fluffing your nuts so hard. Did he interrupt you at all? Did you have to back off because he was being too loud? No, I think I was interrupting him. I was trying to have a conversation and he was talking to the people on the broadcast. I was like, this is just as shit. Did he just talk to players bullshit around?
Starting point is 00:36:40 Yeah. Oh, yeah, that was a good. It's easier to talk to Sleez than it was to, you know, socialize with some of the fans that were out there. That's true. Yeah. Yeah. That's true. Yeah, I could be light.
Starting point is 00:36:50 And your boy, dude, I didn't know he was on your bag until I got out there. I walked down, I think my first group, first day. Like, I were going out to Alistair, blah, whoever else you were playing with. And I walk out, I'm looking, you were getting ready to hit. And I'm going across the road. Yeah. Is that my boy Hoguey from a mid-Dood? Yeah, dude, straight up, gee, for a long time.
Starting point is 00:37:08 I don't know how old Hogi is now, but he's been around the block. Yeah. And there's tough to find a better dude. Yeah, he's awesome. When did you get linked with him? I brought him in in Omaha, and we almost won that week. That was one of the hard ones where you were shooting like 28s and stuff at the end. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:25 I was leading after 54 and shot 64 and lost. It's not many times that that happens. That's actually one of the hard courses. It's a really good golf course. You lost in the playoff there? Yeah, to Frankie Harris, who shot 59 in the final day. Wouldn't you all both Eagle the last? No, both.
Starting point is 00:37:40 I birdied the last four. I think he might have went five under on the last four, but he was an hour ahead of us. So, and that final group was myself, Doc Redmond and Robbie Shelton. And Doc got off to such a good start that we were kind of just focused. on catching doc. If he would have won, that was a three win promotion. And, you know, everybody wanted somebody else other than Doc that week. But, yeah, we were chasing him.
Starting point is 00:38:06 And then I got on a little bit of a heater in that middle of the back nine. And then we got to 15 and I just took the lead in our group. And there's a big scoreboard there and it's like, oh, yeah, you're two back. Whoa, we're sick. Since I went. Yeah, yeah. And then I birdied 15 and then get on to 16 and birdied 16. and birdie 16, I walked by another scoreboard,
Starting point is 00:38:26 and it's still too back. I was like, what the heck is going on? But to come up clutch and birdie 17 and 18 was really cool. I was told Shane Bacon told me to ask you about the T-shot 72nd hole when you did win. In Argentina? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:42 I heard it was just one of the sickest. You drove the green, right? Yeah, it's a 370, 365. Yeah, I just tapped it. But, I mean, it's firm. Yeah. It's firm. Yeah, I.
Starting point is 00:38:54 I laced this driver up there. And the day before, I actually hit it up against the grandstand just past the green. So I knew I had enough firepower to get it up there. And the best spot to be was actually past the pin because it's on a big false front in that area. And yeah, I was pretty nervous over that T shot. One of those where you're so nervous that you kind of like gray out, I guess. You know, everything kind of slows down and you're just so focused on the ball that you just hope you make contact. And when it came off, it's like, whoa, I crushed that.
Starting point is 00:39:27 I looked at my caddy. I gave him the club. I was like, hey, I think that's good. And I was playing with S.Y. No. And he goes, no, I think it's really good. And I was like, really? And then all of a sudden, you hear the claps get louder and louder.
Starting point is 00:39:40 I was like 35 feet right behind the old. Two put, one foot. Yeah. But, you know, I hit that first put and thought I was just lagging it up there. You just got two putt and get out of there. And it went, you know, four and a half, five feet by. Of course. It can't be easy.
Starting point is 00:39:52 It can't be easy. So to finally see that a birdie putt go in, everything just let loose. Did you finish runner up early prior to that too? So you're like off to a, you're pretty damn close to a battle. Like you aren't far off from having gotten a battlefield promotion already. Yeah. Ball bounces. The start of my year was a little wild.
Starting point is 00:40:14 Like I said, I didn't touch the clubs until a couple of days before I left for the Bahamas. I finished close to dead last that first week. And I found something on the range a little bit later that week. kind of brought it into the next Bahamas event. And on Sunday, it was blowing 35, 40 miles an hour. And I striped it. I struck that golf ball really, really well in that wind. I kept it as simple as possible.
Starting point is 00:40:40 And I shot 66 that final day, and I think that was the low score by three or four. And made a pretty large, you know, jump up that leaderboard. And when I got to 18, I had an eagle putt. and, you know, I knew it was either to win or to maybe be in a playoff, and I two putted. But, yeah, finished second in Abaco. And then I also missed the next two cuts and then won in Argentina.
Starting point is 00:41:05 So it was either up at the top of the leaderboard or go home early. It's better than finishing 50th every week. Which is crazy. But that's the way it is. You know, it's going to be interesting because this is a totally different subject, but with how things are changing in 2028, like making cuts, they're really valuing that out on the PGA tour. Like there's a lot of points for just making it to the weekend.
Starting point is 00:41:27 Like I believe if you make a cut, you get 30 points, whatever that's going to be called, but 30 points where it wins 300. Yeah, which is a big difference to what it is right now. Because sometimes you can get a point. Right.
Starting point is 00:41:38 Yeah, it's crazy. You finish like 64th and you're like, oh, maybe I should have just rested. Yeah. Taking to it, I'll try to find something.
Starting point is 00:41:45 But now it's like, damn, making cuts is going to be, which is always important. Because it's like, like, going to the small, fields and no cut. I feel like they've devalued that where it used to be like there was a sense of
Starting point is 00:41:55 pride just like playing the weekend and even if you didn't have your best stuff. It kind of like it's gone away or like not valued. Yeah. Now all of a sudden 30th every single week. It's really good. Yeah. Yeah. It's real good out there. It pays a little different too. Being a guy that's just like had, you know, like you've been working your way to the PJ tour, everyone has to be conscious of money and cash. Like you go out there in the first week, Amex, whatever. You get a big check. Do you think you go buy anything? Or will you always have that like, I got to save every penny. I got to stretch.
Starting point is 00:42:21 these dollars. That's kind of just how I'm wired. You know, I think I'm pretty smart with the money that I have and I don't think that'll change. Maybe if I start having years like Scottie's having, maybe I splurge and go do something crazy. You could buy something nice. Just hang around Siwu. Who teach you out to spend the money, okay? I've heard. Save $2. Ain't make you rich. That's his line. Stamped on his wedge. He ordered $25 worth of coffee from Boasler the other day and spent $150 on shipping. He's the greatest. He's not a bargain shopper.
Starting point is 00:42:54 Sure. The Sewo. He does not care. I just want my coffee and I want it now. Yeah. And he wants the good stuff. That's good for him. Respect.
Starting point is 00:43:00 Yeah, he's a good customer. You know, we like to fuck with Riggs like a lot of people do out there all the time. He's a good friend. He's been on the show. But can you just, like, him and the Barstool guys helped you out a lot. Yeah. Get you going. Can you say, like, what they meant to you in your career?
Starting point is 00:43:15 What they still do? Yeah. Riggs is a very close friend of mine. I ran into him at the right time, I guess. I was, I just missed out at second stage of Q school in 22. I was caddying at Silverleaf. One of the guys in the barn was starting to run his mouth and challenged me to a match against Riggs and that they were going to film it and all this other stuff.
Starting point is 00:43:37 And I showed up and there was no cameras. There was just, it was just me, me and Haley Ostrom against Riggs and Panky. And we just drummed them. And Riggs was very, you know, surprised. This caddy just all of a sudden plays lights out golf at Mesa Country Club. And he's been very helpful since. He put some money together for me from his own pocket. He put together a decent contract with Barstall Sports.
Starting point is 00:44:07 And they've helped my brand quite a bit. He's taken me under his wing. He's introduced me to the right people, even just here in Arizona. I've met so many people through Riggs. and he's and he's like a brother. That's awesome, man. That's cool. He's very, very, very helpful.
Starting point is 00:44:24 Next, I wanted to put a swing up of M.M. And you have, like, Conica Manolta like Peter Costas did back of the day and break it down. But we're not going to do that. No, no, no. And that's, look, I've played enough golf with rigs. You've played enough golf with rigs. It's not pretty. But, man, he can get it done his own way.
Starting point is 00:44:41 Not pretty. That's an understatement. My God. It's so funny. Like, you see it in real motion. And, I mean, he's a legit for an handicap. Yes. is. I know he does that Hater series, which is brilliant.
Starting point is 00:44:52 But when you break it down in slow motion and you see some of the movements and the facial expressions, like, dear God, what is happening? There's some freeze frames that you're like, how are we? But maybe he's the most talented man in the world. I put you in those positions, like, what are you going to do? You can go make pars? It's hard. I don't think so.
Starting point is 00:45:09 Maybe he's the sneaky, most talented golfer in the world. Maybe. Playing out of four. Yeah. With that. Look, he gets a lot of shit for his golf game. Nobody gets more shit. Nobody does.
Starting point is 00:45:19 But he, we call it a Rigsie part, you know, slap, slap, gets it up and down from nowhere. He also doesn't, like, claim to be a plus five. Like, I don't understand what he. He's like, the dude, like, he owns what he is. Like, you know what I mean? Like, he's not trying to say, I know everything about golf or I'm the world's greatest golfer. I'm like, can a guy just play some golf?
Starting point is 00:45:36 Yeah. You know what I mean? And like I've said, he means so much to me. That's cool story. Like, that doesn't get out, like, that part of it. Like, you know, that's how it was for him. People know you were a barstool guy, but not like, maybe necessarily like the genesis of that. Is it true, though?
Starting point is 00:45:49 He's no longer allowed to tweet about you live during your round because every time he does, you fuck up. He had a long series of every time I was getting on a run or getting into contention, he would tweet out something of a screenshot of me, Al's in the hunt, here we go. And next thing you know, within a hole or two, double. Obviously, Riggs his fault. Yeah. And we go back to Q school. He was live on Golf Channel. he was talking me up.
Starting point is 00:46:18 He's like he's going to get his PGA tour card, all this stuff started out, double bogey. It's just like the rick. Go away. The ricksey curse. Put the phone down. I feel like with your story that it's gotten so much pub and all the things we talked about earlier in the show.
Starting point is 00:46:32 Like you might be like the fan favorite next year in terms of like feel good stories, people behind you, given what you go through. Like have you heard either like via social media from people or even like tour players right now reaching out after you became officially tour bound? I've had a couple texts, but really I'm just really happy with my support system and the right people that are around me.
Starting point is 00:46:56 It's been really fun, obviously a crazy journey, but I'm ready to start making some noise on the next level. Yeah, the game's good enough to do it. Thank you. What do you do like off the course? Like you said last year you didn't touch the clubs for a long time before Bahamas. What do you got? What keeps you occupied? Well, this year might be a little different, but last year I would play.
Starting point is 00:47:16 I pick up hockey with rigs and Sick. Beer League up at the Ice Den. I joined a couple teams. I had some fun. I grew up playing ice hockey. That's what you wanted to do, right? NHL was the dream.
Starting point is 00:47:26 Until you were 14 or something? Yeah, I was too small. I mean, going into freshman year at high school, I was maybe 411, 95 pounds. I mean, I was, oh yeah. 4.15. So is Ray Whitney. He played 23 years.
Starting point is 00:47:39 Yeah, he's 410. Yeah, I mean, I was getting bullied out there. I was very fast. I was skilled for my size, but once we got into a full, full checking league, and I was getting crushed. I've heard about this beer league, and I actually have some buddies that play in it. Is it like the, I don't play hockey? Kind of, kind of do play hockey. But there is a video.
Starting point is 00:47:59 There's a sick video. I'll like you critique it of me on skates. It was pretty nice. But is it like, pick up, I play basketball, pick up basketball, like the older leagues. I'm like, this is just a walking, like, death march for these. There's an ACL, it's an Achille. Is it the same kind of deal in hockey? Not really.
Starting point is 00:48:14 Is there like diehards that are like This is my chance to relive my dream? Okay, maybe it's maybe it's in between those Okay, nice Yeah, there's there's different levels to the beer leagues They try to keep you in the same You know, skill set But you always have those guys that want to just have fun with their buddies
Starting point is 00:48:32 And they might be way better than the rest of the guys that are on On the ice and they kind of just walk around people So Riggs is actually being one of them He's very talented He is good actually And yeah, you know he went to Harvard for hockey. Yeah, I know, well, I know, but I didn't know, like.
Starting point is 00:48:47 You didn't know he went to Harvard? No, I knew. Yeah. And I knew he played hockey. I didn't know, like, it's a long time. Like, I'm not sure. I didn't know how often he was strapping on the skates. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:55 In the interim. He's really good. And, and. Oh, got this part out. And it's sneaky, way more coordinated on the, on the rink than on the golf course. That's crazy. Yeah, because most hockey guys, we know, like, whether they score well in golf, like, they can all hit it. Sure.
Starting point is 00:49:10 They all hit it, and they all hit it hard, most of them. Like, you would feel like that would. No, his hockey IQ is the way he handles the puck. It's pretty impressive. But you're done with that now? Yeah. It's probably a smart move. Yeah, I might skate in the morning at like 6 a.m.
Starting point is 00:49:27 with the very low level hangout guys. And just so I put my skates on, get active. But it will not be any leagues, anything close to potential of getting hurt. That's fair. Probably a smart decision. Yeah. Who are your favorite, like, pro sports teams to follow? I'm a little all over the map.
Starting point is 00:49:45 Okay. Yeah. Vancouver Canucks. It's my hockey team. I've been a Canucks fan since I was born. Vancouver, what a city, by the way. Yeah, beautiful. I lived there until I was six.
Starting point is 00:49:55 You were born there, right? I was born in the East Coast, Canada, in St. John, New Brunswick. Yeah. But we moved to BC when I was like a year old. Yeah, okay. I played at Shaughnessy the last time Canadian Open was there. And I was like, why do we not come here more often? The Northwest in general.
Starting point is 00:50:10 Yes. Like, we need to have more there. I think it's changing. Don't worry. That's what I've heard. Yeah. Did you play Canada? Canadian tour?
Starting point is 00:50:17 McKinsey tour for two years. Yeah. For two? Yeah, yeah. Like that Victoria, they still have the Victoria event. That's one of the sweetest places ever. Uplands, I believe. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:26 A little short and arrow with the best greens in the history of the earth. The greens are incredible. Are they not the best? Like, we play these. I was like, I don't think there is a better surface in golf in this. In the morning out there? Oh, incredible. Now the place is so.
Starting point is 00:50:38 The West Coast, Canada is awesome. All right. So you say Canucks? Seahawks or no. Oh, boy. I'm a Patriots fan. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:45 Okay. Why? So my dad's college roommate, very, very big Patriots fan. Grew up Patriots fan. I believe the rumor was he was kind of living near the Kraft family. Passed away in a car accident, I want to say in like 2005, 2006. And a lot of his memorabilia was sent to my dad.
Starting point is 00:51:08 Oh, wow. Yeah. So we've got quite a bit of Patriots gear in the house. and honestly my favorite player growing up was Adam Venetary. My dad played soccer growing up. He was a place kicker at the university, fill-in place-kicker. And so we just followed Venetary. Fair enough.
Starting point is 00:51:25 Obviously, the Patriots had an unbelievable run. There's so many guys, Brady, you know, everybody. But like, Venetary was somebody that we were like, yeah. That's too often, unless you're a cowboy fan, your favorite player is the kicker. Yeah, I saw that on your bio. I was like, maybe they're related or like somehow family ties where I was like, You just don't see kickers being the number one dude. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:46 Who is your other one on hockey player? Linden. Trevor Linden. Yeah. Yep. Legend. For the Kinnock's, my favorite number is 16.
Starting point is 00:51:55 I wore 16 in hockey because of Trevor London. Yep. Oh, favorite number is 16th, 12th old WM Phoenix Open, maybe a little ace this year. That'd be nice. I'll be on the call. That'll be a little excited.
Starting point is 00:52:06 Yeah. God, that would be great. You can get excited. Don't fuck this up for me, okay? Do not miss the green. Yeah, I don't need to be booed in my own course. I also saw on your bio too, your first golf memory is rather amazing. We mentioned like a very narrow tree line golf course, Sahali, seeing Bernhard Langer.
Starting point is 00:52:24 Yep. First, this is the first shot you remember seeing. Yeah. Tell me about it. My dad and I were up there at Sahali and we walk over to the 10th T and sit down in the stands. And he gets up there with what looked like a three wood and just hit the first tree on the left or right. I looked at my dad. It was like, wow, pros hit bag shots too.
Starting point is 00:52:45 These guys suck, too. It's like, what's going to happen? Well, I think he won that week. Perfect. So a bad shot doesn't really determine the outcome. That's amazing. First tee shot you remember seeing from a professional went 30 yards. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:59 And to be fair, if anybody's been up to Sahali, it's called, it's a hallway for a reason. Yeah, it's crazy. And the images, like the pictures make it probably look even more. But is there any chance we can get a tour to go back up there? But guys just throw a shit fit about how narrow it is. I think no matter where we go, people will throw a shit fit. Yeah. But from what I've heard, there's a chance that that is a host.
Starting point is 00:53:23 That'd be sick. Yeah. It'd be fun. That's like a one of one. It's an amazing problem. There is no chance of bombing gouge. That'll bring it wide open. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:33 I would love that. I vote for that. Brian Gay might come back out of retirement. I've heard. Yeah. Yeah. Too bad. Although, you know, five hybrids and stuff into those greens might be.
Starting point is 00:53:42 But you can't have a hybrid. Its name is Gary. Okay. And it's deadly. All right. But you're going to be an amateur. You never, I mean, it's on pause right now. It might take a few in a lot.
Starting point is 00:53:50 Bro, you're going to be playing all this shit. I don't know. You can donate your check. That's fair. To the kids. I mean, I might be playing winning the Zurich with Johnson Wagner. You might be. You might be.
Starting point is 00:54:00 You might be only playing 36. God, imagine if you got one of the two. I might walk off. We get a sponsor exemption. We can pair with Alster and his partner. That'd be the greatest. That would be fun. Actually, we're already going to be playing with the Fitzpatrick's, the defending champions.
Starting point is 00:54:14 Oh, okay. Yeah, that'll be a good match. We're the TV time. That would be a very good match. You got a Zurich partner in mind? Not yet. I will wait to see how the rest of your... You want me to send tape?
Starting point is 00:54:24 Falls out. No. I've always seen it live. I've got a few options. You should call Scotty. See if he's busy. Yeah. I don't know if he wants to play that one.
Starting point is 00:54:35 Maybe. Maybe. You want to win? You know, you only won twice this year, Scotty. Actually, three times, sorry. Get Ryan Palmer to be your booking agent. Maybe Rom comes back. You got to play some event.
Starting point is 00:54:45 You know what I mean? You never know? Yeah. You never know? Easy. Well, dude, we're pumped for you, man. Your story is incredible. It's awesome to let the rest of the world know about it.
Starting point is 00:54:52 I can't wait to tell it next year when you're in contention over on CBS, man. It's going to be a lot of fun, but we're proud of you. It's been a hell of a ride and you deserve it. Thank you. Right where you belong, brother. Appreciate the time. Thank you so much. You got to do.
Starting point is 00:55:03 Thank you. All right. That was Alistraudcari, joining us on subpar. What a cool story, man. We mentioned how close he's come so many times to getting to the PGA tour. And now he is officially tourbound playing some great golf. Such a great dude, man. He's been through so much between nearly getting his card, heartbreak at Q school as well, car wreck.
Starting point is 00:55:24 I mean, everything. And now headed to where he belongs on the PGA tour. I just, I love the guy's story, man. Dude, it's all world. I think as the story comes out, which it will. And the people that are like really in the know already know, but like he will be the fan face. of the rookies next year. People will be rooting for him. There's not many Jackson Coivans and Colin Marikawa's and Cam Young and these guys that just come out and all of a sudden just boom,
Starting point is 00:55:49 already matter on the PJ tour. Guys that like slug it out, sleeping in their car, you know, need to raise money and all that type of stuff. And the car wreck, like you said, it's a, it's a phenomenal story. And I think he's going to have a lot of support next year on the PJ a tour when he gets out there. This, uh, and just a great dude. We're going to be playing a lot of golf with them going forward to. Yeah. He's on my team.
Starting point is 00:56:13 He's on my team. Perfect. You can have him. I'll take ROM. We'll be fine. Okay. Um, by the way, I mean, we shit all over rigs all the time, make fun of him, but really cool.
Starting point is 00:56:23 What he, he has done himself as well as the barstool people to, you know, to help Alistra out and keep him going. Um, that was cool for him to share that. Yeah. No question about it. Like, he gets, he might get dummy online more. than anybody in the golf world, which, like, I got it. But he doesn't pretend to be I'm a plus five, and I know all the answers, like some of
Starting point is 00:56:44 these, you know, media guys out there, he just plays golf. Like, the fact, like, helping a guy like that, as a guy who's been that guy, right? And, like, you need money. You need help. Dude, I got to raise something just to keep going. I'm this close. But I got to have a little funds. The fact that he took him under his wing and gave him some capital and allowed him to keep going,
Starting point is 00:57:03 man, props to him. That's a pretty cool deal, honestly. Yep, special thanks to him for joining us. But Sleys, I'm going to let you get back to it. Go over there, have a few pops, get you some good sleep and go out there. Flag and Eagle. I'm going to have a fucking bald eagle land on my shoulder tomorrow afternoon going two and oh, dog. Get ready for it.
Starting point is 00:57:21 We got a, we had a few pops over here, by the way, if you can't tell. You can't tell at all. This is a great time the Bridges Cup. Ryder Cup can learn a lot from our culture. I like it. I like it. You're doing USA proud. and Andy is back.
Starting point is 00:57:36 There's dumb dumb again. It's time for us to call it a show. Go over there, play well, and we'll talk to you soon. Thanks to everybody for joining us on this week's subpar.
