See Fanatic Sportsbook app. All right, so Lisa, since we've been on last time, we now know all 24 players that we're heading up to Beth Page teeing it up this year at the Ryder Cup. 12 from Team USA, 12 from Europe.
Starting point is 00:01:09 first the captain selections for the Americans, which the big question going in was, is Keegan Bradley going to be a playing captain, or is he just going to be a captain? Well, after Cam Young kind of slipped a little bit there at the press conference and talked about him and Sam Burns, teaming up once again like they did at the Junior Rider Cup
Starting point is 00:01:27 back in the day, that kind of told the all audience, Kegan will not be playing at this year's Rider Cup. He decided to go with Sam Burns, Cam Young, Patrick Cantley, Justin Thomas, Colin Moracawa, Ben Griffin. Yeah, the slip-up, maybe from now on we don't interview the guys
Starting point is 00:01:44 until after all the names have been announced. I actually didn't even catch it. I was like kind of, we were on radio, taking some notes. I didn't even catch it. People were calling in. Like, did you just hear that? Sam Burns.
Starting point is 00:01:54 Look, at the end of the last week, or as the picks got close, I was like, dude, if you lose, you're going to get criticized, no matter what. I think everyone agrees you're one of the 12 best Americans. Just go play. Go do both. Be captain, play, do the whole.
Starting point is 00:02:06 thing, you know, be a legend. As it got closer and now that after it's been announced, it feels like this makes sense, I think you look at it as, I think the same thing that we thought would happen did happen. I think you got the six auto picks, maybe a couple of guys that were pretty solidified, seven, eight, said, all right, guys, here's where we are, who do we like? I would be shocked if any of them said, Keegan, we don't want you to play. But when you look at the guys that were the last two in, I think it's Cam Young, Sam Burns, Sam Burns maybe the last guy in, it's like, you look at Keegan's play, Sam Burns play. And, and Is there a huge discrepancy in those two?
Starting point is 00:02:39 Is one far better than the other? Is Keegan head and shoulders above these guys? No, it's pretty much you're splitting hairs. And I think at that point, King was like, look, if it's not clear cut, like I got to be on the team, it doesn't, you know, picking myself doesn't warrant the noise, the distraction. And not just for him, but for every player is going to have to be asked about it leading up. It just feels like boom is put to bed. Now we talk about Ryder Cup because I feel like we've been talking about Keegan potentially playing for,
Starting point is 00:03:02 I mean, the better part of this year. Yeah, we got 12 guys now that are solely focused on going out there and playing the best golf they can. Keegan Bradley was going to give it his all if he was a player, but there would still be all those other things going on, all those decisions he had to make while he's out there playing, is he going to be thinking, oh, I should pair so-and-so is so-and-so in the afternoon. I should maybe mix this up. He is focused on being a captain, and I think it's a great decision. He is a leader. These guys are, they'll take a bullet for this guy. I think they love Keegan. He's done everything right, in my opinion. The press conference, everything he said was beautiful.
Starting point is 00:03:32 I'm pumped for him, man. I know he's going to be a great captain, and these guys are going to out there and play the hearts for him. Yeah, I mean, play the hearts out for him. Yeah, I think every guy on that team would lay on a grenade right now for him. I know, you know, you went down there and did the town hall, talk to Keegan, brought up the Roy McElroy clip where he's like, the hardest thing to do in golf is win a winner cup on foreign soil.
Starting point is 00:03:50 We're going to go do that. Essentially, you know, guaranteeing victory if you want to call that. And, you know, Kegan said, I've heard that. I think our players, you know, may or may not have heard that a few times. I don't, I think they're in no issue getting these guys fired up enough to play. I think the challenge for Keegan, the assistant. the captains, all that stuff, is like calming these guys down to the point where they can actually go play good golf. Because it's just all the things that we've talked about leading up
Starting point is 00:04:14 to this. I think the anticipation, the hype, is at an all-time high. I'll say this deal. You've got to find a way to chill them out. You mentioned the town hall that I did there at the PGA of America headquarters. I interviewed Keegan for like 30 minutes in Gary Woodland for like 15 or 20. Love Keegan. We had some special videos for him. Got one from Drake May, the quarterback of the New England Patriots, wishing him and the team, good luck and all this. And afterwards, I was like,
Starting point is 00:04:37 Kagan, like, how cool is this? And you got Drake May reaching out. Patriots have been shit for quite some time ever since Belichick and Brady left. But you got to have a little hope now. You got Drake May coming in. You got Mike Vrable, who everybody loves. He's like, yeah, you know, I'm very excited for this year.
Starting point is 00:04:51 The last several years, I know what it's like to be a Cowboys fan. And he meant it as a shot at me. But they got to know your audience. I was like, hey, you realize we're here in Dallas, right, Kegan. Don't get up the best page, talk shit about the jets and the giants. It was funny, though. He laughed. He's like, yeah, shit.
Starting point is 00:05:06 I kind of do realize. Damn. Normally those play, those cowboy jokes. It's only town in America where that joke doesn't play. Yeah, but it was great, man. He was awesome. He was so fun in that town hall, as was Gary. We had a little fun with Travis Kelsey and Taylor Swift's wedding announcement.
Starting point is 00:05:19 I asked if he thinks he's going to get invited. What did he say? He said he doesn't know. He did just get invited to the opening of Kelsey and Mahomes's restaurant, though, in Kansas City. Okay. Get a plus one? Get a plus two. Plus two?
Starting point is 00:05:31 Get a plus two. Okay. We'll go ahead and slide it. in there. That's going to do it for the U.S. team. So we got our 12 loaded there over for the Europeans. Luke Donald, second time as captain. He went with SEP Strakha. I can't remember John Rom. John Rom. You ever heard of him? Terrell Hatton. Terrell Hatton made it on points. Matt Fitzpatrick, Ludwig Oberg. Who's the last one? Victor Hovlin. There you go. It's the exact same team last name-wise. Yeah. They replaced Nikolai with Rasmus.
Starting point is 00:06:02 Yeah. So a twin for a twin. Same dude. I mean, it's just. But me, allegedly. Yeah, allegedly. You don't know who's shown up on one. You're talking about 11 guys returning. Rasmus, like he said, his brother was there. He was there all week, I know, as well. It came down to, I think, Matt Fitzpatrick, in my opinion, who hasn't had the greatest year.
Starting point is 00:06:20 Been playing a lot better as of late. But he's 1 in 7 career in the Ryder Cup. His only win was last year, or two years going Rome, when he went nuts starting out. By the way, like Bird of the first five holes made it from absolutely everywhere. The one you could have probably put in there was Matt Wallace. who was heartbroken at his press conference after me. He couldn't even speak. I mean, finished runner up at the Omega European Masters
Starting point is 00:06:40 and knew that was his last chance to really put on his show for Luke Donald. Even if he won, I don't know. It would have probably made the decision a little harder, but knowing that you can bring 11 of the 12 back that absolutely took care of business over in Rome. You got one rookie on the team. Dude, they're loaded. I don't know how we're, I mean, I get it.
Starting point is 00:06:58 We're favorites every year. And by the way, we're three and eight. The last 11th. But we're favorites every year on paper. Look at our guy. this year going through and looking at it, we just did it on radio. I'm like, dude, tell me where are the advantages.
Starting point is 00:07:09 Like, they are deeper than they've ever been. Still on paper. We're deeper than they are. But I went through their list. I was like, man, this guy's a killer. This guy's a killer. I feel like they got more, they got a lot of guys that want the ball in the big situations.
Starting point is 00:07:21 They're coming off this literal, almost exact same team from boat racing us in Rome. Now they look up and, hey, their minus U.S. is minus 140. Like, if this was, I don't know how you handicap home field in golf. Like in football, it's a field goal, right? Home. if this was a neutral site, Rider Cup, and I just said, boom, here's the teams. I mean, is that not a coin flip?
Starting point is 00:07:40 Coin flip, if not, European might be just slightly favored. I think they have fewer guys. Not that we have anyone playing bad, really, on our team, but you can point to a couple guys, maybe not playing as good as we're accustomed to seeing them. I don't know, it's harder to find that on the European side. Like, who's in bad form? Cepstrock, I would say, is the only one that really hasn't been playing great.
Starting point is 00:07:59 Ludwig, I think you could point to a Ludwig, yeah. You could point to a Ludwig in the same way you could point to, like, Zander, I think. Like, these are world-class, you know, contend, win major championships, win numerous times a year. They're not doing it right now. You're not going to be scared to put them out there.
Starting point is 00:08:11 Right. But is that like, oh, Ludwig's a weakling or Xander's a weakling? No. But I feel like there's fewer guys on their team that our question, I don't think we have question marks, but there's just no weakness I feel like. And normally I feel like they do. I normally feel like the depth of the U.S. side is a big advantage.
Starting point is 00:08:27 That's my sitting four. I've never been a fan of. I'm like, put 10 out there. You know, that's our advantage is like six through seven through 12. And now I don't think that that's the case at all. Here's the one thing. Obviously, we're rooting for the United States. But I think with Beth Page,
Starting point is 00:08:41 whereas if you look back at Marco Simone or LaGolf National, like our guys don't have much experience on those golf courses, if any. Like Justin Thomas went over and played the French Open. He's the only one that played worth a damn over in Paris. I believe you went four in one. Beth Page, most of these guys have experience here. They've played U.S. Open. They've played PGA championships here or the FedEx Cup playoff events here.
Starting point is 00:09:01 So it's not like they're showing. going up and this is going to be like, oh my God, this is the first time I've ever seen Beth Page. Like they know what they're going to get. They know what this golf course demands of you. And so that's why I still think it gives Europe even a better chance to get this thing done. Yeah, Europe's seen it as much as we have, more or less. I will say this leading into last year, and it's so easy to second guess after the fact, play armchair quarterback. Shouldn't done this, should have done this. What is this pairing? Like when Scotty and Brooks went out and got just dumped trucked.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Like, this two of the best players on the planet. I don't care if you're expecting to see them or not. By the way, that was best ball. They're just going and playing golf. I don't think you can look at that and criticize that, especially after the fact, right? When you shoot 43, you're probably going to lose. Yeah, against guys that are burning every single hole. But when you look at this year compared to, there was a couple of things we criticized leading up to last year.
Starting point is 00:09:47 One was no one had played any competitive golf on the U.S. side in like a month. That never happens. No one goes into a big golf tournament. No one goes into the Masters, U.S. Open majors, whatever, with having not played a golf tournament in a month. And our whole team did that, right? Meanwhile, they were over in Europe playing, and they went over there. Secondly, I thought our scouting trip over there, like two weeks before, whatever, pack everyone up, fly them over there, time change, everything, play 36 holes, come back,
Starting point is 00:10:12 and then reload, do it again, show up on what they show up on Sunday, I think. And it's like, boom, Monday, you're in it. And it takes a while you still have jet lag and all that stuff. You and I were there. We got there at the same time, and it was Thursday before I even felt kind of normal. We're different specimens. I'm not saying they're like us. But those two things we criticize beforehand.
Starting point is 00:10:31 This year, none of that happens. Like, where they're going to be playing in Napa, all of them but Bryson. We don't have any, do any, like, scouting trips that are 12 time zones away and things like that. But, I mean, at the end, when you stack it all up, I think this is a coin flip, man. I think we might actually be in for the first close Rider Cup since Medina. Okay. Oh, hey, listen, you know who I'm rooting for, but I want it to be close. I'm tired of these five, six-point blowouts.
Starting point is 00:10:53 Like, those aren't fun. I want to come down to, like, the last four or five matches and be like, everything's available right now. Everything is available. All right, well, we're less than four weeks away from the start of the Rider Cup. I believe if this comes out tomorrow, 23 days away from the opening session. But right now, Sleeze, it's time to get zoned in. I can't wait. I love being zoned in.
Starting point is 00:11:14 Over at zone nicotine. And you ready for this one? I'm very ready. I know you know the story because I'm joined on radio today. But I just, I feel like I need a travel blog or like something, you know, horror travel stories with Colt. Like this is just, it's unbelievable. This is even really travel. This is just people you're traveling with related.
Starting point is 00:11:32 So I went to the Rider Cup town hall out in Frisco, flying out of DFW back to Phoenix. This is a 3.30 flight, I believe. So nothing crazy late, nothing crazy early. As our friends like to call it, we're sitting in the leather up front. So I'm 2C. The lady next to me, 2A, were putting a half apart closer than you are right now, right? Way closer. So, and I sat down and I could kind of tell like she'd had a couple.
Starting point is 00:11:57 She was loose. She was feeling good about herself. She was on her phone texting. She was voice texting the entire time, which is extremely. That's egregious. These people need to be checked into institutions. Like while we were in the air too, but this happened right as we're getting ready to take off. And so I'm sitting there.
Starting point is 00:12:13 I just got my headphones in. I'm watching, I think, the U.S. Open tennis on my phone. And I just down the corner of my eye, I said, she's a foot and a half from me. I see her with both hands holding her phone up, just looking right at me. And I was like, that's kind of weird. This lady can't be a golfer. I was like, maybe her friends are sitting across the aisle and like she was taking a picture of them. And so then I kind of just look out of the corner of my eye again.
Starting point is 00:12:32 And I see she's got a group text pulled up and it's a picture of the side of my head. And I can see the text that says she said something. And she said, well, hopefully at least you're sitting next to a hot guy. And she sent the picture and put no. No, okay. No, no at all. Drew the shit into the stick again. I got this fucking mutant.
Starting point is 00:12:55 Well, now I'm kind of interested to see where this leads. So I keep kind of looking out of the corner of my eye. What else are they saying? One of the girls is like, well, you should at least do some networking. you know, try to get some money out of this deal or something like that. I'm like, what the hell is this lady? He looks like a dummy. Why don't you sell him something?
Starting point is 00:13:08 Yeah. So meanwhile, she tries, she has two more champagne on the way, gets up twice in a two-hour flight to go to the bathroom. And obviously, I'm like, God damn, that's kind of rude, you know, taking a picture of someone and just send it like without even asking or anything. And then we land, and I'm the aisle, and she goes, hey, excuse me, sir, would you mind help me get my bag? I was like, I want to slap you right now.
Starting point is 00:13:29 Oh, my God. But I was like, sure, what? Which one is it? She's like, I don't remember where I put it. I was like, oh, you're blasted. I was like, what's it look like? She's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, oh, yeah, thank you so much. You know what?
Starting point is 00:13:41 You're not that hot, but you're sure are a good little helper. It was unbelievable. Like, I was crying laughing when I got home and was thinking about it. At least you sit next to a hot guy. But you know, I mean, people are like trying to like snipe a little shot or whatever. No, this was full hands up. Just right there looking right at me. I was like, oh my God.
Starting point is 00:14:00 You should have just taken your phone out, I've done the exact same thing about Like, sorry, I got the same group text. Dude, it was great. My friends asked the same question. I hope you're one of our eight female listeners. Oh, God, that's so good. I admire how it just like nonchialized. She just didn't give a shit.
Starting point is 00:14:16 It's like, hey, let's get me real quick. I got to show my friends when I'm sitting next to it. But in the air, literally, just voice texting, just talking out, like she typed this part. But throughout the flight, she was just voice texting people. I was like, can you not type it? Oh, God. What are you doing? Yeah, the voice.
Starting point is 00:14:33 It's like the people that are taking the conference calls walking around in the gate. God, it was beautiful, though. That's another great travel story for you. She was zoned in. She was zoned in. It is fun when you sit down and there's a drunken neck and you're like, here we go. Some stuff's going to happen. That's great.
Starting point is 00:14:49 We've got to find this check. Beautiful. All right. Well, let's get to some picks this week. We started off with some college football last week. I got a dub you. You went with the hometown squad here. There's on the state suntables.
Starting point is 00:15:01 I do have to do. give some love to producer mark because I came in, didn't realize we were making football's picks. True. And he's like, take Georgia Tech. They're going to roll over Colorado. And it was a little tighter than I liked there for a while, but PM, well done, 1 and 0 on the season. We may need to bring PM into
Starting point is 00:15:16 the mix on this. Let him get going. ASU, you're dead to me. All ASU friends, finally, finally you're seeing the line. Yeah, 19 points against an FCS team at home. I don't want to hear anything about it. All this hype, national champ. Beat NAU by 28. They control their own destiny in the Big 12 right now.
Starting point is 00:15:34 How about TCU is what I should have done. They look nice. They're still scoring. They look nice. Opening drive, little concerning. I would have loved to have in your house. Thumbs were smoking with how, I was like, if this is the team that we put together after all year, we got to stop the run, got to do this. And then 41 points later, I was like, all right, we fixed it.
Starting point is 00:15:53 We're okay. We're okay. I think they're terrible, and I don't know if we're good yet or not, but maybe a combination of the two. That opening drive was like, holy God, Bill Belichick is just a god. I was like, this is it, dude, we're not going to do it. And then we punt it. And I was like, it's over. It's a rap.
Starting point is 00:16:07 He's a genius. How long you think MJ lasted in that thing? I think once it's probably half time. By the way, that was the longest halftime he had been a part of in college football. The first run on opening drive when Herb Street was like, this is a big defensive possession here for North Carolina. They got to get off the field. 75 to the crib. What's his dog's name Peter?
Starting point is 00:16:24 Pete. Pete got on the headset. That's how bad the game was. That's when you know. And then the memes afterwards, uh, Jordan has entered the transfer portal. There was a lot of good Jordans, the Air Jordon. I'd tell you who's the happiest with the absolute thrashing that TCU gave of UNC is Archmanning.
Starting point is 00:16:40 That was tough, man. Dude, he was getting pummel. I was like, it's his first start, its first year's starter. On the road, one of the hardest places to play against the defending national champions. Like, I don't know. I don't know what was. I'm not saying he's a god, but let's give the kid more than a game. I mean, he's known for how he can sling it, and they barely let him throw it, like, early on in the first half.
Starting point is 00:17:01 It was all just a deepens of battle. The first half of that game, you and I would tell you. I was like, this is the most boring. I get it, but this is the most boring game of all. It was still sweet, though. It was still football. When they got the ball back at the end, I was like, they're going to force overtime. They're going to get it down there.
Starting point is 00:17:12 Which I needed. Yeah. For multiple reasons. All right. Well, let's try to make some money this week. I'm going to download the fanatic sports book app. And for me, kind of a rivalry. Got SMU Baylor, obviously.
Starting point is 00:17:24 In state. I'm going with my squad. The SMU Mustangs coming off a win. They also did not cover in week one, but they got a W. They're two and a half point favorites over Baylor at home. Baylor got smoked against Auburn. I'm looking for SMU 16th in the country. They can play some football coming off a playoff berth last year.
Starting point is 00:17:42 Give me the Mustangs minus two and a half. Put some respect on the name. And we're getting ready for the Battle of the Iron Skillet. That's when shit gets real. Just a couple weeks away, SMUTCU. Hey, you're sitting next to a hot guy? Nope. Nope.
Starting point is 00:17:58 Oh, my gosh. Okay. I'm back. You know, I talk about I hate all the huge lines. Week two sucks. Week one, they give you some bangers out the gate. And then week two, everyone retreats and beats up on people. Shout out.
Starting point is 00:18:09 Props to SMU for scheduling a real team. So it's hard to find, like, great games. But USC, I watched them this past week. I actually bet them. Scored 73 against Duda and McGee. Like, they did nothing. But they just kept scoring. I was like, we got it, dude.
Starting point is 00:18:25 You can start running the ball and, like, in this game. But it seems like Lincoln Riley feels disrespected. the ranking is going to score a million. Well, they played Georgia Southern this week at home, who just lost by 28 to Fresno. And they're going to L.A. And I don't know much about Fresno, but I got to imagine USC got a little more talent than them.
Starting point is 00:18:44 They're giving up 28. I think they'll do another. I think they'll score until the whistle blows. You've combined for 57-point spreads the first two weeks. I know. I hate these big, big spread. But I don't know what's up yet. Like LSU Clemson would love to bet that,
Starting point is 00:18:58 but I don't know what I'm getting yet. I got to have an eyeball test for a few weeks. So I do know that USC has more talent than Georgia Southern, and they're at home, and they just got stomped by Fresno. So I'll take them even though I do not like the Trojans. All right. Well, there you have it. Make sure you download the Fanatic Sportsbook app. Follow along with us.
Starting point is 00:19:13 Well, we got to win in football. We didn't get very many in golf, so we're off to a nice start this football season. We'll get hot. Also, shout out to the legend Lee Corso. I know that term gets thrown around a lot. This man is 90 years old. He's been on game day since day one. Awesome send-off there in Columbus, where he made a lot.
Starting point is 00:19:29 his final headgear pick at basically the 50-yard line there at the shoe the whole crowd the band spelled out corso and also his picks went undefeated on Saturday dude it was like uh I mean the payout if you parlayed all his picks it was a monster payout but congrats to lee amazing career man that was cool got emotional watching it all the tributes and everything yeah yep I mean that's gonna be weird turning on without him been around a long time doing it that was cool cool deal let's get to our guest this week. Who does, he knows a little ball himself. 12 years in the NFL.
Starting point is 00:20:03 Former center, we love our offensive linemen here. It's why we got the self-suck jar right here. It's because of Garrett Bradbury, who is former, also a center in the NFL. Our second, the way we lick. I should get some money out of that for what that lady said to me. How many buries I made this weekend? For what that lady said to me, I should get a little bit out of there.
Starting point is 00:20:18 You should. When you self-deprecate, you can pull a 20 out. All right, well, this guy's a beauty. He's a Thunderbird, loves his golf. Also, obviously, a Super Bowl champion. AQ Shipley joins us here on subpar. All right, we have 12-year NFL vet and Super Bowl champ turned media sensation with us here today. You've seen him on a regular on the Pat McAfee Show where he hosts In the Trenches.
Starting point is 00:20:41 Now Color Commentator for the Arizona Cardinals radio broadcast AQ Shipley. What a big ship. Good to have you, bud. Here we go. What a time. Yeah, it's been a lot of fun. I mean, listen, I never knew media was going to be where I was going to go, but here we are. We're all doing it.
Starting point is 00:20:58 That's always my question for guys. It's because, and I've said this before. Like, I feel like most people grow up as their athletes. They think, you know, they're going to have this massive career. Right off into the sunset. Don't worry about a backup plan or anything. But here you are. You stumble into media, killed it on McAfee.
Starting point is 00:21:13 And now, as he said, Arizona Cardinals radio broadcast. The funny thing is, is most people think everybody's Tom Bradyan's going to make $350 million and keep it moving. But the reality is the bottom 40 of a 53-man roster are sitting there making good living. Don't give me your own, but like, you can't just sit there and do nothing for the rest of your life, right? So I spent about six months after I tried coaching out for a year, which, by the way, that was the worst thing I've ever done. Coached for six months and saw my kids for a grand total of three hours. I was like, this isn't for me. So then I came home, and I was sitting around for six months trying to figure out what was next before the whole McAfee thing started.
Starting point is 00:21:52 And every single time my wife walked out of that office and saw me watching a Netflix show, it was like, all right, I got 30. 14 chores for you to do? I was like, I need to find work real quick. Got to get something. I'm glad you mentioned Tom Brady because, you know, not everyone's Tom Brady, but yet then he just goes off and signs a $37 million a year media deal. He needs it. It's good for him.
Starting point is 00:22:13 Good to see him catch a break. The funny thing is, is everybody's like giving him a bunch of crap last year and like, oh, well, he wasn't great to start off, but like, he's going to get better. He's going to get better. Mark my words, within two years, he's unbelievable. Oh, guaranteed. I've never seen anybody want to be the best at everything he does like him. Yeah, as long as he doesn't just step away and then go do the whole Raiders situation.
Starting point is 00:22:33 But I'm with you. I mean, he works so hard at everything he does. He will not be mediocre at anything he does. Nothing. No, he's, I mean, I'm telling you. Like, I've never seen anybody love winning more than anything else on planet Earth. Well, let's just stay with him for a minute there, because you won the Super Bowl with the Bucks. You've been around great players, Hall of Famers, all that sort of stuff.
Starting point is 00:22:52 But when you go to a place like that, which you've never been before, and in walks Tom Brady. Like most guys get all the acclaim and all the accolades and stuff like after the fact, but he was like a living legend at the time still playing. What's that like as a player? Does it change shit in like the locker room when a guy like that walks in? Changes everything. I mean, listen, I've never been around somebody like that.
Starting point is 00:23:11 I've been around great players. I've been around Larry Fitzgerald and Ben Rothesburg or Andrew Luck and Reggie Wayne and all these great players are eventually going to be Hall of Famers, right? And when he walked in there and you don't realize it until, I don't know, maybe halfway through the season, but just the way that he elevates everybody around him by holding people accountable. I've never seen anything like it before my life. And I think I remember specifically one specific moment. I was watching film after practice one day.
Starting point is 00:23:41 And, you know, the receivers are running. It's like seven on seven, right? And I'm watching Brady throw into everybody. And, you know, they hit this, he hits this receiver, he hits that receiver, he hits this tight end, he hits that tight end. And then he, and then Gronk's up, right? So it's him and Gronk. hits Gronk over the middle Gronk turns upfield
Starting point is 00:23:57 and runs 50 yards for a touchdown after it it's just on air seven on seven stuff right and I was like okay I get it I get why New England was so good for so long because you would have thought that was a full speed rep in the Super Bowl the way Grunk caught that turned up field and finished through the end zone more than anybody else on that team
Starting point is 00:24:16 and Mike Evans is on that team Chris Godwin's on that team stud receivers right I mean Cambrate was a stud tight in all these guys But the way that those two ran stuff in practice, I was like, okay, every rep means something, right? And then now everybody else starts doing that, right? Now the offensive line pick up. And then when you're normally breaking in between on a normal Wednesday practice and the offense goes, then the defense goes, while the defense goes, the offense is sitting. Well, now Brady's grabbing everybody and you're doing a second walkthrough or you're doing a short yardage walk through.
Starting point is 00:24:45 You're doing a goal line or you're hitting a blitz walk through, right? You're doing all these extra things. and you do that over the course of 17, 18 weeks, and all of a sudden you get 500 more reps. There's a reason he needs to go. That's exactly right. What were his hands like underneath there? Do they even feel a little better than most?
Starting point is 00:25:00 Yeah, they've got to be soft. Well taken care of, I would think. Nice and lotioned up. No calluses. No callous. The funny thing is I'm sure you guys have heard the stories. I mean, obviously, offensive linemen sweat like crazy. And especially being down the Tampa, you sweat even more, right?
Starting point is 00:25:16 And like, I remember signing down there. And I didn't sign until like mid-August. I missed three-quarters of camp. And I get down there, and the very first thing that happened, before my first practice, he comes and grabs me. He's like, here, let me teach you something. It takes me in a little training room and grabs a towel. He folds it and he folds it again.
Starting point is 00:25:34 He's like, all right, here's how I want this. You've got to fold it twice. It's got to go all the way under. Get it under the goch. Not just the balls. Get it under the gooch. Then get the baby powder. Put the baby powder in there.
Starting point is 00:25:44 Not just a little baby powder. A lot of baby powder. We got to dry that thing up. This thing, I cannot get wet. and I'm like, man, this guy's crazy. And then like, legitimately, like, he got a snap for me one time, like a week later. It's like a little wet. He's like, hey, babe, let me see that.
Starting point is 00:25:58 Let me see that glove. Is feeling a little slick. And I was no, I was like, look, it's dry. It's dry. I'm keeping it dry. He's like, okay, I'm just making sure. That is beautiful. A little dude's training.
Starting point is 00:26:06 My hands can't get wet. I got a watch commercial to shoot after practice. That's exactly right. I know it's like an offensive lineman. Like the last thing you ever want to do is give up a sack. But when you got a guy like, and you played a couple game before like the injury. Yep. But like for him especially, is it just like, holy shit, I cannot let a finger get on this guy.
Starting point is 00:26:22 That's exactly right. I mean, like, literally, we all talked about it the whole year. It was like, can't let this guy get hit. Like, you're going to get beat. Tackle them. Yeah. Like, take the holding call. Like, doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:26:31 And yeah, like, I didn't, I went down there kind of just to be like an insurance, like good guy in a locker room. I started the last five years here in Arizona. I was like, okay, cool. I'll just go down there. Be like a veteran mentor. Getting an injury. I end up getting two starts. I remember when I first start with him, I'm like, I never felt pressure.
Starting point is 00:26:46 like that. Yeah. The guy behind me is different than any guy I've ever had behind me, right? And I've had five number one picks behind me. So it's like, okay, this guy's different. And then we're playing Carolina, which we ended up beating them pretty good. And we had humble brag. We had the most rushing yards all season in that game.
Starting point is 00:27:02 Of course, whatever. Yeah, not by accident. No big deal. Self suck. There it is. There it is. There it is. Right there.
Starting point is 00:27:09 But I remember we were running like a two-minute drill at the end of the half. And I hadn't caught the wrath of them yet. I've seen the wrath all over TV. I've seen it in practice. I've seen all that stuff. And it was on, it was, I think it was on one. And I thought it was on two.
Starting point is 00:27:23 And I didn't snap it and get the false start. And he's like, come on, snap the ball. I'm like, God, damn. You let your dad down.
Starting point is 00:27:31 Yeah, I'm like, man, I just screwed up. But yeah, all good. Man, that's so cool.
Starting point is 00:27:35 I want to go back very early on. Obviously, you went to Penn State. You kind of, did you show up as defensive lineman, then switched over to offense to the line? Yeah. Okay, explain to me,
Starting point is 00:27:44 first off, because defense was your thing in high school. So imagine you planned on going to college and doing that. And then what's the reaction when they say, hey, we want to try you over here? Yeah, interesting. I mean, obviously nowadays, like, probably would have transferred, right? Like, that's the way it works now.
Starting point is 00:27:57 NIL, transfer portal, all this stuff probably could just go. But for me, coming out of high school, I love defense. I love, I mean, I was pretty good on defense, played noseguard, had a ton of sacks in high school. And the problem is I'm white and I'm six foot one, right? So I'm like, all these offers start coming in. and this is me just being an idiot and probably being just not realizing whenever all this stuff comes in, I got like 56 offers, 53 of them were to play offensive line, three of them were to play defense.
Starting point is 00:28:26 And I was gung-ho set to play defense. I was like, I'm going to be a noseguard. I'm going to be a noseguard in the NFL. Meanwhile, 53 of the offers are for offense. So obviously I should have paid attention to that a little bit. I go there, I redshirt my first year. I come out the second year and I'm playing. I actually had two sacks, my redshirt freshman year on defense.
Starting point is 00:28:45 but I'm backing up some really good guys. Tom Bahal Lee was on that team. It ends up being a stud in the NFL. There was, I mean, there's four or five big-time draft picks. We had our linebackers where Pulp is Lusney, Sean Lee, Navaraboman, all pros. So I'm like, this is easy. Just keep those guys clean. And then the bye week that year, my retro freshman year,
Starting point is 00:29:05 Paterno moves me and this other guy over to offense. And he's like, I just want to get a look at you guys over the bye week. And I go over there. I'm missing blocks on purpose. I'm going the wrong way. I'm diving. I'm like, I just want to play defense, right? And then he pulls me and he's like, listen, I know what you're doing.
Starting point is 00:29:23 I see what you're doing. Like, give it a real try for like two practices. And now I'm going against these guys like Tom Ballee and all these studs. And I'm kind of blocking them. I'm like, okay, that was kind of good. Okay, that was kind of good. So then I play the rest of the year on defense. He calls me an after.
Starting point is 00:29:38 He's like, listen, you gave me like one real practice on offense. It looked pretty good. You can start a. at center this coming year if we move you over. And he's like, just give it a real try. I went over in spring ball, moved over, starting center at the end of the thing, and then just kept it rolling. Did you play Ennio line in high school?
Starting point is 00:29:53 Yeah, so I played offensive tackle. Like, right? Like, when you're in high school, like, you're just going to play tackle tackle. No matter how bigger. Yeah. You know, I mean, obviously when you get to college, it's like, hey, we need to be 6, we need to be 6, 7 to play tackle. But like, your best player's playing left tackle.
Starting point is 00:30:05 And then he's playing on defense, obviously, in high school. But never played center. Never snapped a ball between my legs. And no shit. Yeah. Because I had some friends in college that showed up. They were like running backs, good running backs in high school. And then they show up in the first day of camp, they go to their locker.
Starting point is 00:30:20 And it's not number 22. You know what I mean? It's like, and they're like, it's 91. And they're like, oh, shit, I'm a D-N now. It's a different world. But you at least got like some run or at least before. And then you end up winning the Remington. Yeah, I mean, I was fortunate.
Starting point is 00:30:34 I mean, like I said, it was easy to get good at playing center because you're playing against, I mean, I played against six or seven first-round pick D tackles over the course of my college career every day in practice. So first year, okay. I think I made like second team all big 10. Then I come back to next year and had a really good year. First team all big 10. And then I come back to the senior year and first team all big 10,
Starting point is 00:30:56 Big Ten offense linemen, Remington Trophy. Everything just kind of clicked. And we were really good in my senior year and it made it easy and kind of just kind of run the shit out of the ball. We averaged like 300 yards rushing again. Damn. Who was running back that year? We had a kid named Evan Royster, got some burn in the league.
Starting point is 00:31:09 He played like four or five years with the old school Redskins now commanders. You brought it up early because like nowadays, dude, I just transfer. You know, what's your take on all this NIL and shit right now? And what do you think it does for like Penn State's a big brand, dude? Like, is this better for them? Does this give them a better chance to pick one off? It's kind of hit or miss. I think that.
Starting point is 00:31:30 So first I'll give my take on it. I hate it. Yeah. I think my whole thing on this is it doesn't teach kids to face adversity and grind through it, right? Like, I think that was something with me. Like, I didn't start my first year. I had a red shirt. And then I come out the second year and I'm a backup and I got to grind.
Starting point is 00:31:48 And then, oh, you're moving over to offense. And now I got to work hard and grind again. I think you lose some of that. I think you lose a lot of that, actually. And I think, you know, when you see these kids all over the country now, it's like if they don't get exactly what they want or what they were told right out of high school, then it's like, okay, cool, just go the next school. No consequence.
Starting point is 00:32:06 Go to the next school. No consequence. No consequence. One, okay, cool. Now if you're lucky enough to go to the NFL, well, guess what? If you get cut, now what do you do? Now what do you do? Do you grind?
Starting point is 00:32:14 Because I got cut six times. I was almost out early in my NFL career. But I had to grind. I'd work. I'd earn it, right? Like you lose a little bit of that sense to go earn it. And I mean, fortunately for me, I end up working out. But like, I put the effort in.
Starting point is 00:32:29 I put the grind in to get there. And I think some of these people have never had to face that until they do. And then how do they react once they do, right? I think that's one thing. your second question. I think Penn State is in a great position now money-wise. Penn State is the most CEOs of any school in the entire country. They're able to get whatever money they want. The athletic director there right now is in a position where he is just like, we are going to win no matter what. This offseason, I had plenty of conversations with him. He was like, I went in, I talked to the
Starting point is 00:33:01 recruiting guys, and if someone was offering Singleton the Running Back or Aller or whoever, a million five, we're offering a million six. like no matter what we're keeping these guys. And so they're in that position, but guess what? There's also that position where now they were fortunate this year. Well, now next year, maybe they lose four or five of those guys, and now you're in a different position, right? Well, you beat my SMU Mustangs last year in the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:33:23 Barely. Barely. That interception right out of the gate. Six-six-six-quick, right? Imagine being a coach, though, right now, dude. Not only are you got these five-star kids, four-star, the type of kids that Penn State recruits. You got to go get them, beat all the other schools for that,
Starting point is 00:33:38 which normally probably just comes down to money. But then let's say there's a freshman not quite ready to play. Well, guess what you got to do? Get his ass on the field because if not, he's just going to pack up his shit and go take some more money to go somewhere. So now you're playing guys that aren't even ready just because I got to keep this kid happy to stay here. Because they can just leave three different times. That's the biggest thing, right?
Starting point is 00:33:56 Like, you used to just recruit somebody once. Now you've got to recruit that same guy five different times. Dude, these college coaches, I don't know how they do it. I don't either. Sounds awful. Sounds exhausting. I mean, dude, whatever they're making, like, now you could, like, this should, be more. That job does not stop.
Starting point is 00:34:10 No. It never does. The crazy thing about when I came out of high school, the way it works, I don't know how it works in golf scholarships or not, but like if they were, if they were looking for three offensive alignment, right, they would offer 20 guys in the hopes that they would take the best three of those 20 guys, right? Well, now with the transfer portal, it's kind of killing a lot of the high school recruiting too because now they're so quick now. If somebody has college experience at a Mac school, let's say. I'll just throw like Toledo or Miami of Ohio out there or in Akron or Central Michigan, right?
Starting point is 00:34:43 Even if it's like a lower level division one, let's just say it's like a Colorado and a step up is Penn State or a step up is Notre Dame, right? Wouldn't you much rather take that kid that has college experience already that's played against big time players, right? So like now if there are three offensive line spots, they're offering one out of high school and then keeping two open for transfer portal guys. That's a good point. Yeah, well.
Starting point is 00:35:04 We're going to take a break from our interview with AQ Shipley to tell you about the home of American golf, and that is Pinehurst. I want to talk more of some about this media stuff because I think a lot of the world got to know you on the Pat McAfee show. I know you played with him in Indy.
Starting point is 00:35:54 But give us a little background on y'all's relationship and how it all came about. What was your first thought when he said, I think you should come on my show? It was yes and how quick can I start. That's the first thing. I mean, when I, when I first started with him. He was already on the way to super start him to the top of the mountain, right? But I think here's how it all started. The funny thing is there's the college football award show
Starting point is 00:36:16 that happened every year down in Disney World, right? And they announce all of the major college football awards except for the Heism. And then a couple days later is the Heisman trophy ceremony. But I won the Remington trophy. So I was going down there. They were going to announce that live on the show. He was up for the punter award. Ended up not winning it, but should have.
Starting point is 00:36:34 But while we're down there, they give us a curfew. There's all these guys. I mean, Matt Stafford's down there, Justin Blackman, everybody that's going to be a first-round picks down there. And they literally give us a curfew. He's from Pittsburgh. I'm from Pittsburgh. West Virginia, Penn State, close proximity. Our rooms are right next to each other.
Starting point is 00:36:54 We're walking back from one of the events and we look at each other. And he looks at me. He's like, we're going to go out tonight, right? Yeah, we're not going to abide by that. We're not doing this curfee thing, are we? And I was like, I don't think so. We should go out. So it's like 9.30.
Starting point is 00:37:11 We can get dressed up. Boom, we're out. We hit downtown Disney. We burn it down, right? And fast forward a couple hours later, in walks Kirk Herbstreet and Chris Fowler, which started kind of their relationship. That's first time McAfee and Herb Street meet each other. And now they're boys, college game day, that whole thing.
Starting point is 00:37:29 But anyways, we have a great time. Burn it down the whole thing. He gets drafted actually. four picks ahead of me in the draft. So he goes 222 overall. I go 226 overall. He goes to Indy. I go to Pittsburgh.
Starting point is 00:37:41 A couple years later, I go out to Indy. We're walking through, and GM's walking me through the building and turn the corner. Am I a lot of swearing here? Oh, of course. So I turn the corner. And it's me and the GM, and we see McAfee. He's just coming out of a rehab session. He's like, hey, Q, what's up?
Starting point is 00:38:00 I'm like, hey, what's up? And I'm with the GM. He's like, how are you two know he? other. He's like, oh, we got fucked up in Disney a couple years ago. And I'm like, bro, they didn't sign me yet. Chill out. Like, relax. So, and then that whole thing. And then they end up signing me and they put our lockers next to each other. And we just kind of hit it off from there. That was kind of awesome. Did you always know, like, knowing him and then getting to know him like in the NFL, like, there's going to be more for him outside of football? There's no
Starting point is 00:38:24 question. I mean, I remember sitting on planes and just seeing this guy always on. He was always on. And I was like, his personality's infectious. This is crazy. He's just always. He's just always on. He's electric. Everyone around him. He just brings up their mood and everybody gravitates towards him. And then he started just doing some small stuff out of his basement. He started doing some stuff in the locker room. And it's like, damn, he's really good at this. And then like him and the GM and Indy, Ryan Grigson didn't really get along there for like a little bit. He was finding him for all the extracurricular stuff he was doing. And we'd be on the airplane and he'd be like, man, I'm sick of this. And I'm like, bro, you're the best punter in
Starting point is 00:39:02 league right now do this for 20 years you can do the other shit too right like yeah you that's the thing with punning is like you can go you can be 47 that's right just keep doing this and do the other stuff and he was like he was like he's like I don't know man I'm getting sick of getting fine I'm getting sick of them clipping my wings I'm getting sick all this stuff and then like one day he's like man I think I'm going to retire and I was like you know retire calls me Houston Super Bowl he's like hey I'm doing this event down here you should come to this so I go and that That's when he retired on the spot and announced he was going to bar store right there. Eight years in.
Starting point is 00:39:37 And I'm like, I'm sitting here thinking, I'm like, this guy's crazy. He's out of his mind. Because he can still do this for another 15 years, you know? And then four years later, he signs a big deal of fan duel. And then obviously everything since then, I'm like, made the right decision. Yeah, good choice. Yeah, good choice. First dude ever to be like currently on a roster, not only that, but like one of the best in the league, like you said, say, screw this, I'm out.
Starting point is 00:39:59 And by the way, that takes huge balls because, like, the media thing. it's changed now, right? But like that could fall flat. Like you left a pretty good gig. How was he as a team? I just have a hard time envisioning him in a team meeting being like serious. He wasn't serious,
Starting point is 00:40:12 but that was always good, right? Because there's so many guys that are serious. He honestly changed the way I kind of approach things too because it was like, I used to be the guy, throw the headphones on, just sit there like this and be a big tough guy, big offensive line. And I'm like, I go out and make three mental errors.
Starting point is 00:40:29 I'm like, what the fuck am I doing? You know? And then like, once I start, started to figure out, like, hey, let's just be a little more loose. Let's have a little more fun with us. Let's talk shit before the thing. Let's make fun of guys. Let's, you know, chop it up and not sit there and be so serious and not take it so
Starting point is 00:40:42 serious. I started playing better. Everybody starts playing better when you're looser, right? I'm sure you guys can relate to that. And it's like, he's just such a good teammate. He was great in meetings. He was great in team meetings. And honestly, like, it's easy to take him serious when he's literally the best in the world
Starting point is 00:40:58 or what he does. I mean, there was a four-year run where every punt was. 50 yards and if it was at the 50 it was going inside the five like he was that good that's going doing the McGregor yeah exactly well you're actually this is hard to believe when we started the show I didn't ever think we'd have two NFL centers on this show but we had uh Garrett bradbury on as well okay and he's the reason behind this self-suck jar yeah yeah she told us started in the O line meeting room that's exactly right I got to hear about some of your stories and because it sounds like the offensive linemen have the most fun of anybody in their rooms we have a lot of fun I mean
Starting point is 00:41:31 there's it's kind of funny because an offensive line coach like right now right cut down days going on right now and so this week you will have your roster solidified in the very first meeting that'll go on like it won't be about for the arizona carters it won't be about new orleans it'll be legitimately offensive line coach will be like all right one of the vets get up there we're going to determine the fine system right now yeah and it just goes up and it's it's always like a little less for practice and usually doubles for games so just going down the list you might have self-suck is one. So there's $20 in practice or after practice,
Starting point is 00:42:06 and it's $50 for the game, right? The hand clap, that's a big one, which means like, okay, you get beat. Everybody, when you watch it on film and you get beat, damn, damn, my bad, my bad. My bad, my bad, yep, no, that's $50, fine, $100 bucks in game. False start, mental air, $100, $200, right?
Starting point is 00:42:25 Like, media, right? Because, like, we're the ones, like, not supposed to be in the media. and so when you see like an offense lineman getting interviewed after oh shit there's a hundred bucks 200 bucks right like it's just and so before you know it
Starting point is 00:42:36 you got 20 30 grand racking up throughout the thing and everybody like at the end of the year it's a Vegas trip it's some type of trip and everybody participates in it whatever it is yeah Gary always had a thing like dude
Starting point is 00:42:48 it sounds like it's every team it was like dude interviews are like a no no and like they could hunt you down after the game like he's like we're finding reasons to get that out of there because we don't want to pay a hundred to themselves suck that's awesome
Starting point is 00:42:59 Yeah, it's too funny, man. It's like even little shit. Like it's like the rookies or like the practice squad guys, I mean, their jobs are crazy because like make sure the refrigerator is filled up with water. Make sure there's food on the plane before the game. They got all this stuff, right? And so if they miss one of them, I mean, now it's like, all right, $1,000 or like your whole per diem's going, right? Like everything. It ends up being pretty good.
Starting point is 00:43:25 Give me one guy that you lined up across from in your. you're like, oh shit. This is going to suck. Scariest dude you faced? Yeah. Oh. That's a great question. You're probably thinking Aaron Donald.
Starting point is 00:43:38 Yeah. He's come up multiple times. The answer is like, surprisingly, he was much more scary going against guards because you turn the line away and now you're one-on-one on an island with this guy. For me, when he lined up over me at center, super good, super talented. But I always felt like I had a solid game plan going against him.
Starting point is 00:44:00 and, like, that game plan was he likes to win right now. And whenever he likes to win right now, and you're not there, now he just turns it into a bull rush, and I felt like I could sit on a bull rush versus anybody. So, like, I would always just get back and give him space and just hope to hold on for dear life until the ball was gone. That was kind of my approach person. So, like, I actually always had pretty, like, decent success against him.
Starting point is 00:44:23 My last game, actually, the game that I got hurt and that kind of ended my career, he had zero tackles, zero sacks, zero pressures in that game. Damn. That's got to be like that happened many times in his career. Exactly. And so like that was a good way to kind of go out. But to answer your question. So for me, I was a shorter guy.
Starting point is 00:44:41 So taller guys, I always loved going against because I could always get underneath them. There was one guy, Linvald Joseph. And if you pull up clips of this, I mean, he was 6'4, 380. And I mean, I'm pretty sure he had 39 or 40 inch arms. And the knock on me was I had short arms. arms. So my arms measured less than 30 inches at the NFL comment. So this guy had like a 10 inch reach advantage on me.
Starting point is 00:45:06 And I felt like I was just running my head into a brick wall every time I played against him. I was like, this is terrible. There's a clip of him. You can find it on YouTube for sure. So Cardinals play at Minnesota. I guess it was like 2016 or 2017. I think 2017, actually.
Starting point is 00:45:21 No, 2016. And he's running out of the tunnel. So the Vikings are running out of the tunnel and the cameraman gets in his way. And you've never seen a guy get. It hits so hard whenever he hit this camera guy. It's crazy. Ten inch reach has got to be tough. Tough.
Starting point is 00:45:36 Yeah, got to be real tough. That was one of the things when I was texting some of your friends. Like, yo, give me some shit on ship. One of them said, like, ask me if he still has to bend down to scratch his balls. Because his arms are so short. I was like, fuck, I didn't know. I've been around him a bunch. I never noticed.
Starting point is 00:45:49 I got a great story on the short arm stuff. So do you guys know who Mark Kerr is? Mark Kerr? Mark Kerr. No. Okay. So we just got into the UFC Hall of Fame. Okay.
Starting point is 00:45:58 There's a movie coming out in mid-Octo. where the rock plays him. It's called the smashing machine. So Mark Kerr was like a legendary UFC guy back in the day. And lived in North Scottsdale and he's good buddies with Jay Glazer. And I got to become pretty good friends with Jay Glazer. We would do this boxing kind of MMA training. I was doing it to try and like stay in shape, lose weight, all that stuff when I'm done playing.
Starting point is 00:46:20 And so there's a Monday night game, it's the Rams a couple years ago. And Jay has a bunch of us all over at his house. And I'd never met Mark. And I show up and Jay's live. laugh and he's like Mark you have told him a story. I'm like what's story? He's like well Mark's like hey so you know I'm looking for some suits I'm down at I'm down at the goodwill and I had lost all my weight so I take all my clothes to goodwill I take all my suits all my old suits so Mark is going through goodwill and he's looking at these suits he's looking for some suits
Starting point is 00:46:49 he's rolling through and he finds all these suits and they're nice they're nice suits so he's rolling through he's like god damn he's nice this is nice so he buys them all they're like for like five bucks a piece, right? And he gets home and he puts them on. They fit great, except they're coming to here. Come to mid-forearm, right? He's like, what the hell? And he opens it up. And it's like, this suit was made for AQ Shipley. He's like, who the hell is AQ Shipley? That is beautiful. And then it tells Jay, and Jay's like, oh, that's my guy. You've got to tell the story. Yeah. Oh, that's hilarious. Short arms nice for bench press, though. Great. Isn't it? Great. What did you do in the combine bench press?
Starting point is 00:47:22 225? I did 33 times. Damn. How high was that on that? Where that rank on like centers? So that to be high. Senors was number one. The set of the shitload. Yeah. Centers was number one offensive line. I think it was like number three or four.
Starting point is 00:47:32 Damn. That's nice. That combine's got to be a weird thing. Yeah. You probably didn't even know you had short arms until they measured the shit. That's exactly right. Do you have to keep your wallet in your front pocket? Can't reach to the back.
Starting point is 00:47:42 That's exactly right. Keep it right there. Keep everything in the front of the shit. When you got out of football and you talked about like got into coaching, hated it and never see the family. But like what's the thing you missed the most? Other than like what do I do now? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:55 It's definitely the locker room. I'm sure you've heard that a million times, right? It's the camaraderie. It's the talking shit. It's sitting around in a locker room. Yeah, exactly. It's like listening to Shady McCoy and Leonard Fournett telling stories and chopping it up with the O line. And then this guy comes right.
Starting point is 00:48:11 Like it's, you can't beat that. And like, listen, like as many times as you want to go out in Arcadia with, you know, the dad of a kid that's in my kids, they just don't get it. They don't get it. Yeah, of course. You know, it's like, and we can be pretty abreast. and talk the most shit and nobody gets offended or been out of shape. Meanwhile, I go out to dinner with somebody here and I say something to some dad and then I get the text
Starting point is 00:48:38 for my wife. What did you say to him? You have to be so abrasive. I'm like abrasive. I was easy. I was bund up. That was easy last night. But yeah, so that's part of it.
Starting point is 00:48:48 And I think just getting out of the house and chopping it up, getting away from the fam, getting away from the kids. Like, that's all healthy stuff, right? Like, I think that's all good. but, you know, you try and find that. Like, that's what was great about having, like, Jay would have, like, a crew of guys. We'd all get together and work out. And, like, and then that was, like, my release.
Starting point is 00:49:07 That was, like, my way to get the anger out, you know. Before we get back to AQ Shipley, all right, hey, everyone. I wanted to take a minute and thank one of our sponsors, Carlisle companies. Look, I know these guys at Carlisle. I'm good friends with their CEO, and they are doing some pretty cool and innovative things around energy efficiency for home and commercial buildings. They also help contractors get more out of their labor. I'm just super pleased that Carlisle is a sponsor of our show. Here's a stat for you.
Starting point is 00:49:32 Nearly 40% of all energy consumption in the U.S. comes from buildings. 40%. So to reduce energy usage and our energy bills, we've got to make buildings more energy efficient. And that's what Carlyle does. And they do it in really cool ways. For example, Carlisle recently launched a cutting-edge new insulation that's made from recycled blue jeans.
Starting point is 00:49:51 That's right, blue jeans. It's called Ultra-Touch Insulation. Ultra Touch is readily available at the Home Depot, and it's safe to handle and easy to install. Carlisle's Ultra Touch makes insulation easy, and not only does it save you money, but it also keeps about 20 million pounds of old blue jeans out of our landfills. I know when you think blue jeans, you're probably thinking how you wish yours fit better, but you should be thinking Carlisle, Ultra Touch recycled denim insulation from Carlisle. Learn more at Carlisle.com.
Starting point is 00:50:19 Now back to AQ Shipley. What about golf? You take your anger out of golf, Paul? Love golf. Sneaky nice, by the way. I'm okay. For a big fella. I'm okay.
Starting point is 00:50:28 I'm like a 9.10. 9.2 I looked up. There it is. Solid. Seems good. Swings okay. I mean, it's, I'm going to get a lot better right now.
Starting point is 00:50:36 I don't know if you guys see my Instagram. I turned my kids playroom into a golf simulator. Hell yeah. Yeah. I've seen it. It's like vacuuming in there the other day. Yeah. My wife was real pumped about that Instagram post.
Starting point is 00:50:47 But yeah, I love it. I mean, I love golf. And it's just the problem is I got three kids right now. So like, okay, do I want to deal with an argument with my wife on the weekend by saying hey i'm going for six or seven hours where you got three kids so i always try and find time between drop off and pickup during the week as long as i got time monday through friday i can make it work give me a little description of your game do you pound it off the tea good short game what do we got working i pound it off the tea driver's best club in the bag i mean i'm
Starting point is 00:51:14 carrying it 300 so the problem is if i'm playing whisper i might end up over there over there so like that's why I love playing at Phoenix in Arizona because I can spray it. It's long and then I can recover. Yeah. What do you think you need to work on the most? Accuracy. Yeah. Okay. I can't control the face. You guys got to teach me how to control the face. We're still working on it too.
Starting point is 00:51:36 Okay. Well, when you swing it like 104. Lifetime. Yeah, swing softer. Swings slower. Way easier. Every time I swing softer, it gets even worse. You put up an 80 spot, I think, at Shadow or this year, right? Did you go up to Shadow for the first time? Eighty-1 at Shadow. Yeah, that's nice. How good is that place?
Starting point is 00:51:51 unbelievable. And like for me, like I'd never been there. And you had kind of given me a little description. Kittleson gave me a little description. But you did. What you guys left out was the drive up. Yeah. The drive up's got like Augusta feels, right?
Starting point is 00:52:05 Like you're driving through there. You're like, oh, where am I going? Shopping Center. Where the hell's this golf course? Yeah. Once you're in the gate, isn't it weird? You're just driving to the place, though? I remember the first time I went.
Starting point is 00:52:13 I was like, dude, our guy got the wrong address. Like, there's no way there's a world-class golf course. It was unbelievable. I mean, it was so good. And like, you know, for me, like the range. I mean, just the whole experience was incredible. People were incredible.
Starting point is 00:52:27 Got the Ronda Rita. Yeah, I mean, those you put down. Too many. Yeah, they'll get you. They will get you very fast. Rhonda don't mess around. She does not. She's the best.
Starting point is 00:52:35 It's my favorite place in the world. Yeah. I love it. Is it really? All the ones? If I tell everybody, if I have one day left in golf, I get to play one more day. And you've been at Augusta.
Starting point is 00:52:44 Yeah. And you'll say that over Augusta. No offense. Augusta's golf court, but like in terms of just a fun day, the most fun. The whole experience. You can go play with seven of your boys out there and have music and play and drink and do all this time.
Starting point is 00:52:57 It ain't Augusta, but like you ain't doing, you know. Yeah. There's not many places you can do that and play. It's my most fun day of golf every time I go up. Yeah, I love hearing that. Yeah, yeah. I played it a hundred times and every time I still get just as excited. We played it back to back and it was fun.
Starting point is 00:53:10 Two days back to back. It was like. The second day is always a little harder because you do a little something at night. I've heard. That's exactly. Yeah. It's exactly right. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:17 Scoring average up there is not great. What about watching golf? Because, I mean, you came in. The first thing he said is, how about Tommy yesterday? Yeah. I love watching golf. And, like, it's funny, like, for me, the majors, like I said, I got three kids under seven. Like, I tell my wife, like, the majors, especially the weekend of majors, don't bother me.
Starting point is 00:53:34 I'm from Pittsburgh, so I went back for the open this year at Oakmont. That was cool. We went up there Saturday. That was great. And then the FedEx Cup, for me, like, I love watching that. I love the Ryder Cup. So there's certain events, honestly, I mean, like, the whole season, I love watching. Those guys are just, for me, it's so good because.
Starting point is 00:53:50 I appreciate elite, right, like in anything. And when I watch that, and I know how hard golf is, and I feel like I'm a pretty damn good athlete, and I go out there and can't do half the stuff. Like, even like yesterday, like, just going and watching, like, that last little sequence of live and watching DeCambot and Ron going at it. I'm like, okay, like, this is awesome to watch. Like, need more of this.
Starting point is 00:54:12 I need more of this in my life. I thought that that hole was kind of chicken shit just because it's so short, but for both those guys from like 40, 50 yards to hit those little pitches. Yeah. On the last with all everything on the line. I'm like, yeah, that's pretty sick. Well, it's funny too because the announcer's like, oh, he hit that too far. And then Bryce spins it back.
Starting point is 00:54:26 And I'm like, whoa. Yeah, I've never been able to do that. Also, the fact that it was like essentially Bryson and Rom in a playoff for the whole thing. I was like, yeah, I mean, you couldn't script it any better than that. Yeah. That was a cool deal. All right. E9? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:41 Emergency 9. This is like nine bullshit questions. Okay. Basically across the spectrum. I think they're real important and serious questions. They are. Yeah. I should rephrase.
Starting point is 00:54:49 Yeah, they're very important. What should we go with with AQ? We change the first question up occasionally. Then we each have four. We do. You can pick. You got movie made about your life. I need the actor to plays you.
Starting point is 00:55:02 Or you can do trade lives with someone for a day who you want to be. And we also do celebrity crush as a kid. Or now. Or all of them. Or currently. All great. Yeah. And it can be anyone in the history of time, dead or alive.
Starting point is 00:55:18 Yeah, if you're going to trade. I want to trade lives with someone. Wow. Okay. Let's go. Let's go trade lives. Okay. Who do you want to be?
Starting point is 00:55:28 I think you guys will appreciate this. If you've seen the new Dallas Cowboys documentary. Just watched it. Has to be Jerry Jones. Wow. I like, I'm a dire cowboy fan. You think you could sign Micah? I figure out a way to sign Micah.
Starting point is 00:55:41 There's no question about that. But like, I don't think I've seen a more electric start to anything than him describing that well. Yeah. Spitting and roaring and gushing. Screaming at me. And then just watching him walk into that fire everybody, take over this thing, become this,
Starting point is 00:55:58 become that, bring my whole family on board, turn it into a world-class operation, right? Like, I just feel like he is a movie, right? Like, after watching,
Starting point is 00:56:08 like, I was never like the biggest fan of him, but after watching that, I'm like, this guy's special. Sleaz hasn't watched yet. I told, like,
Starting point is 00:56:15 he changed the NFL for the owners. I mean, he went up, against him. He said this is how it should be done. And now, I mean, he's made everybody so much more money. No question. You're going to, you got a lawsuit against you and then you counter, sue them back. I mean, it, it was wild. And I grew up in Dallas and so I've always been a massive cowboy fan. I still didn't know all that stuff that went on. Obviously, back in the day. I mean, it was incredible. The minute I got through that first episode, I was like,
Starting point is 00:56:40 I can't wait to watch wrestling. This is unbelievable. Yeah, he's one of those guys, like, love him or hate him, like, he gets eyeballs. Did you see him in Landman, by the way? Speaking of his life's a movie, that was, I don't even think he's acting. No, he tricked himself into being real life. He was unbelievable. Yeah, I agree. All right, next one. Better sport for you, pickleball or golf?
Starting point is 00:56:59 Oh, what's your pickle game? I've heard, I was going to say, I've heard some things about your pickleball game. My pickleball game is pretty good right now. My pickleball game is good. See, that, and that's the thing. Going back to the whole thing of how much golf am I playing right now, not as much as pickle because I can get away with an hour versus five or six hours. Oh, God.
Starting point is 00:57:16 Now that I get this golf sim, my pickleball game is good. There's no handicap system really in pickleball, though. So it's like when I play against the Kittles Sims and the really good players of the world, I can't hang, but like a handicap keeps me in the game versus anybody. Yeah, there's no strokes. Yeah, I'll say golf, I guess. Played it longer. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:39 Yeah, I'll say golf. All right. Golf swings good, by the way. Thanks. All right, I was going to ask one, but you kind of already answered. So I'm going to switch this up right now. your all-time starting offense skill positions of teammates that you played with. We're going through like all 11 guys?
Starting point is 00:57:56 No, skill positions. Oh, just skill positions. Okay. Quarterback Brady. Yeah. I feel like I know two for sure. Let's go. We'll go three receivers.
Starting point is 00:58:06 Let's go. Larry Fitzgerald, Mike Evans, and Heinz Ward. Reggie Wayne. No, Reggie. Wayne, that's surprised me. Tough, I know. Heinz or Reggie, I figured. Yeah, Reggie's so good.
Starting point is 00:58:26 I just like Heinz. Blocking more. Running back, short, but can't not leave him in this mix. Adrian Peterson. Were you with Adrian James at all? Nist him.
Starting point is 00:58:43 All timer. Yeah, I missed him. My running back in Indy was Donald Brown and Vic Ballard. Good memory. Willie Parker had a good little run, but not sustained in Pittsburgh. I'm trying to think. David Johnson had a good run.
Starting point is 00:58:58 Adrian Peterson's got to be the running back. I heard him. I mean, Adrian Peterson was a show. I heard his workouts were just the most ridiculous thing. It was insane. And he had no, like, when we did walkthroughs, it was still 100%. I remember Alex Boone, who was my guard, played with him in Minnesota,
Starting point is 00:59:13 and was like, hey, even on walkthroughs, like, get out of the way. Keep your feet moving because, like, if he runs into the back view, you're going down. He didn't have both ACLs, too, and he still came back. because just a force freak. Crazy. Yeah, he's a freak. Tallah, in Texas.
Starting point is 00:59:27 Yeah, we got tight end. Tight end. Grunk, got to be. But Heath Miller's in there, too. Yeah, he's a dog. Super nice. So, yeah, good ones.
Starting point is 00:59:35 That's good squad. All right, next one. Obviously, you went to Penn State. You mentioned Larry Fitzgerald, went to Pitt. How long did it take for Larry to warm up to you when you signed with Arizona? Because he told me at first,
Starting point is 00:59:45 he didn't much like you. What do you say after that? Oh, you want me to read it? Top five favorite teammates is 17 years. You turned him. There it is. One more quote that I like a lot.
Starting point is 00:59:57 Great leader, and this is from Larry, is give a fuck meter ran so high. Love that. That's good. Incredible compliments. That is incredible. I love hearing that for me. That's my guy. It's funny, I'll send you guys the picture.
Starting point is 01:00:11 Obviously, being from Pittsburgh, I had some people send some things like pit helmets and all that stuff. Like, hey, can you get this signed? And anytime I had him signed something, it was always talking shit on Penn State. There's like a big mess that's talking shit. I'll send it to you. Yeah, he's, Larry's the best. I mean, listen, when I first came there, he would just talk so much shit.
Starting point is 01:00:31 This is one of my favorite stories. So, like, you guys know him, right? So he's, when he wants to do something, he wants to do it, and it's always spur the moment. Like, there's never any planning. Like, it's just like, hey, you got a tea time in 40 minutes at Silverleaf or got a tea time in 40 minutes, a whisper rock. Hey, can you make it? It's either yes or no.
Starting point is 01:00:49 And if it's no, it's, he's talking shit. and hang up with the phone, right? So I just got to Arizona, and my birth, it was literally my birthday. It was May 22nd, so on my birthday, my wife's got this big to-do planned afterwards, and he's like, hey, we want to play Mesa Country Club, and right after practice, I'm like, I don't think I can make it.
Starting point is 01:01:10 He's like, call Sherry right now. Call her, put him on the phone. He's like, AQ's coming to play golf, he's like, Larry, can't. I got something like literally from the minute he gets home, we've got something playing. Can't do it. Hang up the phone. He goes, how the hell am I supposed to trust you to run this team and be the leader of our team
Starting point is 01:01:28 when you can't even run your household? That's good. I love that. Before we get back to AQ Shipley, a quick message from our friends at Nutraful. That's Nutraful.com promo code subpar. Now, back to AQ Shipley. One last one that I got from someone that you know. I reached out to Cliff Kingsbury. It was here for year. Also said extremely nice things about you.
Starting point is 01:02:50 But he said, you didn't really much. enjoy his uptempo college offense when he first got there. No. Let's slow it down a little there, Chief. I just, you know, for me, and funny, funny that he said that because at first, I was like the antithesis of hating that. Like I was like, I just wasn't going to buy into this.
Starting point is 01:03:12 I couldn't grasp it. I couldn't understand how this was going to work in the NFL. The thing I hated most about it was like the clap cadence, right? Because, like, as an offense alignment, it's set hut, white 80, white 80, hut. But you start to, like, start your snap or get off the ball and, like, anticipate the snap whenever they say that second white 80, right? Well, with the clap, you can't anticipate anything. So you're getting off the same time. You have no advantage over the defense, right?
Starting point is 01:03:39 So when that whole thing happened, I was like, man, I don't know about this. Having played in Cliffs' offense, five games, six games in, I was like, this offense is awesome. It's an offense alignment's dream. And so if you look up any of my stuff that I've ever put out on Cliff on McAfee since then, like I am the biggest fan of Cliff's offense and what he does. But at first, I just couldn't buy in. I couldn't understand it. It just didn't.
Starting point is 01:04:02 Everything I'd been is like old school. Like, hey, we're going to run these five, six run plays. We're going to have these four or five pass protections. And Cliff was like, like, I remember coming to him one time and being like, hey, listen, like, who do you want me to make the mic when we go tempo, like on these passings? He's like, I don't give a shit. Just make a mic point and go. they're going to be tired, they're not going to be set up,
Starting point is 01:04:20 and it's going to be an advantage for us. And I, like, couldn't grasp that. And then we get into a game, and I'm going against Snacks Harrison who weighs 400 pounds, and we keep him on the field because we're going tempo, and we snap the ball, and he's, like, not even getting out of his stance. And I'm like, okay, this is an advantage for us.
Starting point is 01:04:35 And finally, like, took me a little bit, but I bought in. You ever feel bad for Cliff and, like, you know, the ladies and going out at night and stuff? It's got to be rough for him. I mean, going back to the original question, I might want to switch. Yeah, it wouldn't be bad. What a life.
Starting point is 01:04:50 What a guy. He's at a good run. The Beast OC too. Stub. What's the way he did in Washington? Yeah. He's nice with that. All right.
Starting point is 01:04:58 My next one. What's the appropriate first date footwear when trying to impress a future wife? You're going to go to like first date stuff to really knock their socks off? I'm a crox guy. Okay. And I heard about this. First day. I need to hear your side of it.
Starting point is 01:05:17 Yeah. So. The very first, like I was doing the long distance thing with my current wife, and she was living in Baltimore, and I was going back and forth. And very first time I took her to, like, a nice dinner. We were going to Ruth Chris that night, and I come out, she gets all dolled up. I mean, she's taking two hours to get ready. I'm sitting in the living room dressed for two hours because I've sweats, a t-shirt, and crocs on.
Starting point is 01:05:39 And she's like, she comes out, and she, like, looks me up and down. She's like, what are you doing? I'm like, I'm ready for dinner. You ready to go? She's like, you're wearing that? And I'm like, yeah. And she's like giving me shit. And she's like, pissed off.
Starting point is 01:05:52 And I'm like, what are you mad at? She's like, you're really going to wear that to the steakhouse? And I'm like, are they not going to accept my credit card? Yeah. Like these are mating clothes. This is it. And she's like, okay. And she never said anything to me after that, you know, to her credit.
Starting point is 01:06:07 But like, I mean, I am who I am. And he's at the bar. Like going forward, don't expect some fancy shit when we're going out. That's exactly right. And I got bones spurs sticking out the back of my feet. I hate wearing shoes. I can't believe you have shit. shoes on right now. I know. This makes us feel
Starting point is 01:06:20 good, dude. I dressed up for us. You dressed up for you. You dressed up for us and all your wife. That's exactly. Yeah, you got your priorities. Right. Yeah. That's exactly. Crocks on the first tail. Like, damn. That's nice. Yeah. That's nice. All right, we're going to go back to the McAfee show here. Okay. You can pick any guy on the show. He's got a 10-footer to save
Starting point is 01:06:38 your life. Who would you pick? 10-foot put. McAfee, hands down. Really? Hands down. I didn't know if any other boys were better at golf. He's a gamer. Okay. He's a gamer. Like he is. I know Darius Butler's big into golf. Yeah, he is. He is. Pat's a pretty good golfer.
Starting point is 01:06:54 I don't know if you guys ever seen him play. We see him in Tahoe every year and he's like, but he's the guy that also shows up. Everyone thinks that he's the best friend. He has to chug. I mean, he chugs a beer like, I mean, probably every hole. I know. And he never says no to people. But he like doesn't ever play.
Starting point is 01:07:08 He's always super busy. But like when he goes and picks it up, he can still hit his little fade, hit his little cut shot. And he can play. But like, I, like, you guys know. I mean, listen, like pro. athletes are the most competitive people on planet Earth. And whenever there's like a gamer moment, they always step up.
Starting point is 01:07:25 I like that. Sorry, you answered another one of my, you know, throughout the thing. So I'm going to go to this one. I'll give you favorite pancake of your career, a guy that you just knocked on his ass. Yeah, okay. I know this one. Um, 20, 2017. San Francisco at home, DeForest Buckner.
Starting point is 01:07:54 Mm-hmm. Playing the three technique. And as a center versus a four three defense, you're uncovered. And most of the time, you're sliding to the three technique. So if that middle linebacker doesn't come, you're free to take a shot. And he worked inside on my guard. And I legitimately. went full body straight missile and just left my feet,
Starting point is 01:08:19 crown of helmet under chin, probably would be a penalty and a fine today, but hit right under the chin and it just quick, right over top. That's a good one. He's a dog. I don't ever want to feel that. I saw you on Macfee once. JJ came on and you're talking about pancake and his ass.
Starting point is 01:08:34 I thought that might be the one. I got a minute and a half real, me versus JJ, just so I can talk my shit to him. Yeah, that's true. I went on one day. You two around at the same time. That's nice. I spent four hours, like, going back and finding every clip I ever went against him.
Starting point is 01:08:45 When he was talking shit, I was like, fuck this. I'm finding it. Oh, that's great. All right. My last one. You played for an absolute legend of beauty four different times. Coach Bruce Ariens. The best.
Starting point is 01:08:57 Give me your first thought when you heard Bruce Ariens was going to go into TV. Okay. So when I heard TV versus when it's CBS and he has to be filtered. I'm like, I don't know how this is going to work. Same. And I think after watching him do that, I don't know how it worked. If it worked.
Starting point is 01:09:17 So I was at CBS at the time. Yeah. The guy who's hires everybody, Ross Malloy, he's like, yeah, we'll bring Bruce Ariens on. Like,
Starting point is 01:09:23 have you ever talked to Bruce? He's like, yeah, why? He says, fuck every other word. It's unbelievable. He's the coolest dude in the world.
Starting point is 01:09:31 He's the greatest human. So quick story about Bruce. Yeah, you know, the Super Bowl in Tampa. We're down there covering the Valspar. Yep. So this is in late March,
Starting point is 01:09:41 Super Bowls in February. So a month later. I'm in this random bar outside of Tampa, not far from the golf course, and in comes Bruce, cigar, cocktail enhanced security guard just still celebrating having the time of a life, came over to sat with me and we drank together all night. It was glorious. He's the absolute best. Every time I send him a message, no matter what, doesn't matter what the context of the conversation is, I get the same response back. And it's always something, something, something with a cocktail glass on the text message. It's like, that is my guy.
Starting point is 01:10:12 Dude, he joined the rock and I've seen him a million times. I've never seen him actually on the golf court. He just hangs out in the grill, has his drinks, talks with people. You go sit next to him. Dude, he's the nicest guy in the world. He's the best. I don't even know if he plays golf. Keep an eye out.
Starting point is 01:10:25 He might be on, uh, you might be on some media stuff coming up here shortly. Oh, the hell of that. Some unfiltered stuff. Yeah. There you go. That's where he belongs. By the way, let him talk his shit. That's right.
Starting point is 01:10:35 Man. Well, this is one. I got, I got a, I need the answer to. I've seen it. And I know this is like your reputation. but please explain why you seem to appeal so much to women over the age of 60. 60, 65 is like the sweet spot. They love you.
Starting point is 01:10:51 Yeah, I don't know what it is. I think I'm always nice. I'm always bubbly. I got this big personality. And every time, every time in some woman over 60, she sits on my lap. She gets a kiss on the cheese. And I just eat it up. I'm just like, come on, keep telling me more.
Starting point is 01:11:07 Keep telling me more. Sherry, listen to this. Yeah, it's just like literally just keep it. come and then literally we you probably got this from Stein right so so yeah we're out in Coronado and he saw it the first time because we went out to dinner and this lady does this and then we walk into this uh this guy's house out in Coronado and there's like five six women all over the age of 60 and they're like oh my god your calves are so nice I'm like tell me more come on tell me what else come what else what about my smile your eyes the crocs are beautiful
Starting point is 01:11:39 They just keep going on. I'm like, come on. Come on. Keep it coming. It's good. It's too good, man. I don't know what it is. You're lethal with the senior crowd, bro.
Starting point is 01:11:47 I bring them. I welcome them. Come on. Keep coming. I like it. They're smart women. One last thing before we get out here. You are a Thunderbird, which is a huge honor.
Starting point is 01:11:55 Thank you. And I believe last year was your first ever, W.M. Phoenix Open. It was. Give me a little real quick answer about thoughts on being a thunderbird and how crazy that week is. You know, for being a guy that's not from here had no idea. idea what it was, what it meant, what it, what any of it was, right? And then when I get asked to be it, it's like, you start diving in. You start diving into this. And like for me, like, no matter what I get myself involved in, like, I dive head first in. That's just kind of the only way I know how. And so I
Starting point is 01:12:28 start going to all these meetings, meet everybody. I'm like, okay, great group first of all. Then I think within like the first couple weeks I'm in, you know, you go to the big check where you're they say how much we've donated this year. And I'm like, that was pretty special. Then you go through the whole week of the open with all the guys and just putting that whole thing on and seeing just all the community involvement, all the different things,
Starting point is 01:12:54 and then hopping into all the different charity things. I mean, it's just such a cool group to be a part of. And probably to answer one of your earlier questions of what I missed most about playing was probably the locker. I think I got a locker room again, right? That was kind of like, now I, I can go to these meetings and do all these different things with all these guys, like-minded individuals and have these conversations again.
Starting point is 01:13:17 And so I think for me, like, that's a big part of it, plus all the stuff that we do for charity. People don't get offended in that room. You can speak freely. And we do appreciate when you wear the sweatshirts and stuff on McAfee, love that. Always. I'm always going to rep the group. My man. Well, dude, this has been a pleasure.
Starting point is 01:13:31 A lot of fun. Thank you so much for joining us. Shipp, you're the man. You guys are the next, dog. Appreciate it. You got it. That was AQ Shipley, joining us here. on subpar.
Starting point is 01:13:41 I know you've known him for a little while. That's my first time meeting him in person. I love that guy. He's a dude. Ultimate bro. Ultimate ball nowhere. He's like the guy that's obsessed with football that breaks it all down. That's why he does great on Macfeet.
Starting point is 01:13:51 I think he'll be a really good radio guy as he gets his feet wet in there. But he's just a dude you want to hang with, man. You got to have as a friend also in case of shit hits the fan. You've met my friendship? Say what you just said. I mean, you got to get real close to him, though, because of his arms. but yeah you still got to bend over to scratch your balls came from one of his teammates

I was out, took a little spontaneous trip out to Vegas with some fellows, teed up at Shadow Creek. Yeah. Ran into a guy you might have heard of. LeBron James was out there teeing it up. Oh, Luca's sidekick.
Starting point is 01:14:51 Yeah. Yeah. He's a big human and believe it or not, he's in really good shape. Saw the picture. Hard to tell who was who. Yeah, exactly right. That was nice you to take a picture with him. He asked, I'm assuming.
Starting point is 01:15:01 He did, but God, that's annoying. I'd tell you what, I ran into him in the locker room. He had just finished. It was his first time there. I mean, he was a kid in a candy in a candy store. He was just grinning ear to ear, had so much fun out there. He has hooked on golf, watches every week now, but it was cool, man. I'm an MJ guy.
Starting point is 01:15:17 Sorry, LeBron. Did you tell him? No, I didn't. Say, hey, shitbird. I don't really like you, but I'm going to need a picture. But this is cool. You're one of the best to ever do it. Not as good as MJ, but it was cool to meet you.
Starting point is 01:15:25 He has, like, falling in love. I mean, he's got the videos out there, golf swing. He was live tweeting. Tommy Fleetwood, like, he's like, three up with two to go. It's time. Is this going to do it? Is this going to be it? Yeah, he's getting into it.
Starting point is 01:15:38 He had to pay, he had to tip well, I would imagine. Good think. Good thing. Probably a big, probably a big tip from the LeBron camp. Just a big old fat tip. Time to wrap it up. Yeah, let's wrap it up. You were zoned in.
