All right, welcome back to golf subpar with Colt Nost and Drew Stoltz.
Hell of a week in the game of golf.
The main event, though, obviously, our member member over at Whist Brock, which neither of us won.
It was big.
So congrats to you.
Thank you.
It was a little chilly.
I was out there in my rowback hoodie, which, by the way, can you get a better hoodie?
It is extremely comfortable, extremely warm.
You can move all about the ways.
It was a little cold out there, so I needed it.
It doesn't hinder our elite speed that we have, which is nice because we rely on that.
But absolutely striped it.
pants are incredibly comfortable shorts jackets they've got it all and right now head over to rowback
dot com that's r hobac k dot com no code needed 20% off for all customers right now once again
roback dot com pick you up some hoodies pants jackets whatever you want the holiday season is
coming what's better than 20% off is the sleesin oh here we you know what i mean for almost that time
although i feel like we're too early normally it's christmas stuff after thanksgiving nobody abides by that
Your house is lit up like it's Christmas Eve right now, by the way.
And it's been that way for like two weeks.
That was you, wasn't it?
Yeah.
You did that.
You got all the elves and all the little snow villages out.
Snoop on a stoop.
Snoop on a stoop, sick, by the way.
Martha on the mantle.
I didn't know that was a thing.
Oh, my God.
It's just ridiculous.
I mean, she's over here got Christmas music plan.
I'm like, can we not even have Thanksgiving first?
Yeah, we skipped it.
I feel like we skipped it this year.
And then once Thanksgiving comes, all I want for Christmas is you,
Mariah, everywhere you go.
Here's another three million.
Mariah.
What a gig she has around.
on Christmas just starts rolling in.
We do have a lot of action to get to.
What do you want to go to first?
We got golf, we got fighting, we got football.
Let's talk about what's important.
Let's talk about our favorite topic.
Yeah.
We both play the member member.
Shout out Ray Whitney, the wizard, guest of the program,
was playing with him the first day of the member,
hole in one on the seventh hole, West Baroque lower.
Six Iron from 205 caught the slope, fed right towards the hole in the middle,
playing with his partner, the great legend, Denver Bronco,
John Elway, who was just awesome.
I just love that man.
He likes cocktails.
He likes golf and he likes gambling.
We have a lot in common, which is, but it was so much going to play with them.
Exactly.
A couple of homelieu.
Hometown heroes.
Yeah.
But congrats to Ray on the whole one.
Him and John actually went on and won the whole damn thing.
They actually boat race.
Didn't they win by a million?
Yeah.
There was like a Barkley-Marley type situation.
There's going to be some, there's going to be some looking into that.
There'll be some auditing because they've destroyed.
Yeah, you go audit John Elway.
Tell me how that works.
I'll tell him.
I'll tell them.
You got to keep your eye on.
Speaking of the Denver Broncos, congratulations.
The season win total has hit the over.
Everyone's getting paid.
Just dominating fashion against the Atlanta Falcons.
Thank God.
I needed something good to happen.
As I mentioned, when I first made this bet,
it might have been a little.
Yeah, maybe a little bit.
And we got to talk in Stokely.
I was with Stoke who was like, Mr. Inside the Broncos,
started going through everything.
He's like, dude, there's no way they don't win six games.
Sean Payton's never won six games.
Bowenix is going to be good.
Our defense is this and that.
Like the more he was talking about, I was like, yeah, you're absolutely right.
So I fired way more than I should have on that.
And then after we started off 0 and 2, I was like, oh boy.
And I've also not won a bet otherwise.
I can't win any.
I mean, I win one, but then I lose five more.
This was sorely, sorely needed.
So shout out to Bownecks, as I've said all along the second coming.
You're a bo-leaver.
I'm a bo-leaver.
Riley Moss locking people down.
The way I would look at it is, you didn't bet enough.
I didn't.
It was an easy win.
I definitely didn't bet enough because there's some money going outward bound, but it's way less than it would have been.
As Sean Payton said, quote, the next time I only win six games in a season will be the first time.
I've only won six games in a season.
Now I'm in this weird flux period quote where like, all right, the over is handled.
And once we got to five, even though it was a heartbreaker against Casey, I was like, we're going to get to six.
This is a pretty good football team?
But now I'm to the point where it's like, is playoffs too much to ask for?
Are we pretty good?
I think we're actually pretty good.
The defense has been good.
We just haven't been able to score any points.
Now we're scoring some points.
I think we're sneak.
In the next three games, super winnable.
We're fringe playoff.
Okay.
Which would be nice.
We're not going to win the Super Bowl,
but just to be relevant
and have something to root for.
Be pretty impressive.
You know, I haven't had much in the last,
since the national championship game,
I had much to have much to root for in football.
Well, you had Russell Wilson, but he just didn't pan out.
We rode for a little bit.
We were riding.
Now he's, I mean, world beater.
Killing it in Pittsburgh.
God.
Anyways, we got our guy.
We got our guy, but shout out Denver Broncos.
They were spectacular.
Your member member was quite interesting.
Your partner didn't hit all the shots.
No, no, he's not into hitting all the shots.
Shout out my guy, Benny Hayes.
I'm sure a lot of people out there know him.
He's a little under the weather, you know, physically.
Then he also battles a bad back.
He also did show up as we had already hit our T-balls on the first hole,
showed a middle of the first hole.
So played in from there.
And then, yeah, didn't hit all the shots out there.
I'd say we were, he had one of those machines
that shoots the electricity into your back.
Yeah, a little stem port.
You wore it the entire time that he plays.
So we were there more for the social than anything else.
But we had a ball, as we always do.
And then he rallied that night somehow
and played cards for 12 hours.
A little under the weather.
Jordan had the flu and scored 40.
Exactly.
This wasn't a Jordan flu game.
They're not going to be rewriting any,
they're writing any stories.
about what we did out there at the member member.
But it was a hell of a good time.
I'd tell you what, the first day, though, dude, I've never felt,
I'm not a long hitter, but I'm not a short hitter.
Something like 111 miles an hour, pretty much every single time.
Sick flex.
That's not that fast.
That's not that great.
I think it's really fast.
Against these guys that I play at the first round.
Wyndham Clark was in the group, you know how far he hits it.
He might not have been the longest guy in the group.
Trey Kid, new member, played college golf, 6'4, Monster,
hitting it out there.
Alberto Sanchez.
guest this week's caddy. David Pooge's caddy smashes it. He also can hit on another planet.
He can't. But the first like nine, it was per, I was like, dude, what's all this? I hear you
don't hit it. And then the fuse showed up. But it still goes. And then Hayden Wood, it was playing
second stage cue school this week. It was not the longest, but pretty damn long. It was a,
it was a humbling environment. That's why you just go down to like the second or third flight where I was.
Rusties. Rusties are so enjoyable. Sixty eight hundred yards. I'm hitting.
a couple sand wedges into par fours, getting home on par fives.
It's glorious.
Yeah, that's nice.
Especially there's no role out there right now, too, which I use a little more role than
these guys probably do.
I was like, oof, there's a few that hurt.
For all you people with the egos out there that think you hit it really far and you really
don't and you're not that good, move up at T-box.
You know, I tell my guys that I gamble with all the time.
Stowe, if you're listening, why do we play the back T's?
We don't hit it far.
We're hitting five iron or hybrid into every hole.
That's not fun.
I did that for 12 years of professional golf.
I want to hit some wedges, damn it.
And how many times have you walked off a golf course
where you were like, that was cool, but it was just too easy.
Yeah.
I just made too many birdies today.
I'd like to make fewer birdies.
Why don't we move it back?
Why don't we make this game a little bit harder?
It's fun as hell.
I don't really like chipping.
And these guys I'm playing with,
that's how it is from 73 for them.
They're still hitting irons and everything,
wedges into everything else.
I mean, it's like, if you want to feel like they feel,
just moving on up.
Moving on up.
I like it.
We had a good time.
Didn't win any trophies.
Yeah, to be expected.
But it was awesome.
Shout out, Whis-Brock for putting on a great event.
All right, the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
What a story.
Rafa Compost, one of the nicest guys on the PGA tour.
I'm so pumped for him.
I love this man.
Second winner ever from Puerto Rico,
joining Chi-Chi Rodriguez.
A guy who missed 13 of 14 cuts coming into the week.
His season was pretty much dead in the water.
It looked like he was going to be going back to Q school,
possibly going back to the Corn Ferry Tour.
Has a child on Monday, his first ever one.
Flies to Bermuda, goes out there.
and gets the W by 3.
Awesome to see.
And also,
missed possibly one of the shortest
puds I've ever seen a professional
really set up,
line up, and try on.
It might have been a foot.
Not possibly.
If you can find one shorter than that
where the guy actually tried,
I'd like to see it.
As soon as I'd have,
I was like, oh boy,
we got to get this thing to the house.
But he did it, props to him.
And by the way,
you mentioned his kid on Monday.
I had a good buddy who,
like, a lot of alternates
are getting in this thing.
And Cabo,
they went way down the list
and guys just couldn't make
to Cabo in time once they found out.
Well, I had a friend of mine who was from Florida who ended up being like first alternate.
It was Wednesday.
He sent a text to Raffa.
It was like, hey, dude, no, you just had a baby on Monday.
Are you still playing on playing?
All this type of stuff.
Rob was like, yeah, dude, I am going to play.
I kind of have to play.
You know, I don't want to, but I'm going to play.
And he's like, okay, cool.
I was just checking.
Thanks for the no.
Also, go win that thing this week.
And Rafa replies to him, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
That would be nice.
Yeah.
Not a lot of confidence.
13 out of 14 missed cuts.
You're not like, yeah, this is probably my week to go in.
And by God, he goes out and does it.
And you saw how much it meant to him.
Very emotional.
I thought he looked kind of emotional walking off the 18th T.
Like he had a two-shot lead, knew he had a really good chance of getting it done,
and then just let it all out there on Sunday.
He says it's the best week of his life between having the kid, becoming a father,
and then winning on the PGA tour, which is a lifelong dream for him,
has changed his career, has changed his life.
Now, two-year exemption.
Yeah.
He'd heading down Magnolia Lane playing in his first Masters, PGA Championship,
players, going to Maui.
I mean, it's all coming together.
Really cool to see.
Love stories like that.
And that's what these fall events do.
They give guys like that who maybe haven't had the best of season can go out there in one week can change their life.
Yeah, I mean, they don't get in any of the signature events.
These guys off the Corn Ferry Tour.
Rafa was 30th last year off of there.
Yes.
On the nose.
It looked like he wouldn't get his card for a while.
Now he's a winner on the PGA Tour.
By the way, the fourth guy off the Corn Ferry Tour from last year to win on the PGA Tour this year.
And yeah, the fall season has kind of become their time because with the way the signature events work, none of them are getting in those.
Then the guys that are just outside of getting in those events don't skip any other other tournaments because they need events to play in.
So he kind of comes down.
Like if you can handle your card as a rookie prior to the fall series and just be like locked up, you played some damn good golf.
It's just this kind of like a sprint to the finish for him.
One event left.
Our man, Joel Damon, says 124 right now needs a good week at the RSM Classic to keep his card.
Wesley Bryant is the man on the bubble.
Henrik Norlander's first guy out right now.
But other news in the world of golf over on the LPGA tour,
Nellie Cordova picks up her seventh win of the season over at the Onica.
Made five straight birdies on the back nine.
Just a monster season for her.
Congratulations to her, as well as Brittany Linscombe,
who just wrapped up a 20-year career on the LPGA tour,
has announced her retirement.
Her dad caddied for her on the final hole, came under the ropes.
Really cool scene there, and then her whole family greeted her.
But congrats to Brittany on a great career.
Eight wins, two majors.
Six Solheim Cup appearances, really special.
And then DP World Tour, Roy McElroy doing Roy McElroy things.
Just wins another race to Dubai.
His sixth tie Sevi for second all time.
Just trails Colin Montgomery by two, but four wins for him.
It's been a wild year for Rory.
Close calls at majors, obviously the stuff off the golf course.
But cool to see him get that win.
His family was there.
Poppy, his daughter held up six fingers for his sixth title.
It was a really cool pitcher.
But awesome to see him get another win down there.
He's really fast when it comes to racing to Dubai.
You know what I mean?
Even on years where you think it's like,
oh, it's not that great of a year.
Ferori seems to win the thing.
Wins it all the time.
That trophy, too, by the way.
It's a big boy.
Luckily, he's got some space.
But yeah, I think this year will be remembered
as a year of close calls for Rory.
But, you know, you can see what that one meant to him over there.
And yeah, like I said, like, that's just how good he is.
Even on years we're like, ah, wasn't his best year.
Let some get away.
He still wins that thing, which is, you know, the ultimate goal
for a lot of those guys.
I wouldn't say it is for Rory,
but he still wins it anyways.
Yep.
And he'll probably pass Colin Montgomery here in a few years
for most order of merit titles.
The silky Colin Montgomery.
I liked watching him golf his ball.
Nice ball striker.
Yeah.
Pleasant.
All right.
Well, speaking of good ball strikers,
our guest this week,
up and comer,
just 22 years old.
Slazie was born in 2002.
It hurts.
It's painful.
I mean, that's just ridiculous.
Absolutely ridiculous.
We were just hitting our prime.
But this man smashes it.
He's making a name for himself over on the live
tour, went to Arizona State just down the road here. He is a hell of a talent. Been playing a lot of
golf with him lately. Love this kid. Here's David Pooge on Golf Subpar.
All right, folks, it is a pleasure to have in studio with us, one of the rising young talents
in the world of golf. Ripe old age of 22, a couple Asian tour wins on the individual's side,
a handful of team wins on Live from the fireballs. David Pooge. Good to have you, brother.
Thanks. Yeah, it's a pleasure. I'm close from home, so I'm excited to talk.
talk a little bit.
Yes, nice to have you.
You're going to talk a lot.
We've been waiting to have you right here in the leather with us.
Perfect.
Yeah.
How's everything been going?
Pretty good.
You know, I played quite a bit this year, but just came back from a little vacation in Mexico,
so I'm feeling great.
Yeah, a little Felice Cumblaeas for John Rom.
30th?
Yeah, happy 30th birthday, John Rom.
How was it?
It was good.
He, well, him and Kelly did an awesome job.
served a lot of shit tequila i'm sure did you drink any tequila they did i i i don't like
tequila i don't i don't know why i might be i might be a little weird on that but i i i drunk
a lot not tequila but i still drunk a lot you know so it's it's untypical so i yeah i feel good
though uh i saw video i think it was on your instagram maybe you guys were at el dorado
baseball field i saw you taking some swings excuse me chelena uh who
hit the most home runs out there. Did everybody do it? Yes. The best was McMurray, John's friend.
Oh yeah. His name is John McMurray. I think he played basketball, if I'm not wrong. I thought
he played hockey, but I guess he played basketball. He's a good athlete. He smashes it. It was unbelievable.
He probably hit like 20 home rounds. But John did pretty well. Did you get it out? I thought
avert to my caddy was going to do better because he always talks about, you know, how
good he was growing up playing baseball and the Dodgers and all that but he did all right nothing
crazy but john was pretty solid i was not great but i i made contact a lot of times which you know
which was pretty good for a golfer golf swings and baseball swings don't go hand in hand yeah no not good
for the golf swing at all not great um obviously spanish john rom was he kind of one of the guys you
looked up to or was it even more like was it sergio guys like that hose marie obviously i don't think
Jose Mario was probably still really playing when you were born since you were born in 2001.
Good God.
That hurts.
That hurts.
I mean, probably Sergio and John were the two biggest names.
I definitely watch Sergio when I was growing up more.
I remember following him when he won the Masters in 2017.
And yeah, and then, you know, John started playing really well.
So I looked up after him.
I think he was one of the names that for sure helped me
made that decision of going to ASU.
So I would say both.
Yeah, I want to ask about the ASU thing
because I talked to Coach Thurman,
and he said he went over there to recruit,
and you were actually hurt at the time when he went to Spain.
And you weren't really even sure
if you were going to go to college.
No, that's true.
I forgot if I was hurt or not.
I was probably hurt if he said I was hurt.
but I was in between that age where I didn't know if I was going to turn professional or come to college.
I mean, my English at the time was not great.
And, you know, I played around Europe and I think I did pretty well.
So I remember, you know, my dad wanted to me kind of turn professional a little more than my mom.
My mom was more, like, supportive of, like, me going to, you know, to the U.S. to college.
So I remember saying no to him at the beginning.
Like my first answer was like, hey, coach, I don't think I'm going to do it.
I think I'm going to turn professional.
And then probably a month later or something like that, I texted him.
And I'm like, you know what?
I changed my mind.
I'm going to come.
And yeah, I mean, that was it.
What did you do?
Google Girls of Arizona State?
Yeah.
A quick Google of Timpe.
You know what?
Are those Spain's probably not too bad in that front, I would think?
It's not.
But I had a girlfriend at the time where I'm still dating the same girl.
So that wasn't on my mind.
I just, you know, I talked to some other people.
And we just thought that going to the U.S. was a better decision.
And I'm glad I made it.
Yeah, it was a very good decision.
I got to ask one thing that coach also told me,
because you and I have played quite a bit of golf together lately.
You hit the absolute shit out of the ball.
I mean, you smash it.
He told me when you showed up in Tempe as a freshman that you hit it about 260 off the tea.
I don't know if 260, but I for sure wasn't very long.
Well, you've gained 80 yards.
Yeah, I mean, I don't know if 80 again, but probably like 50 yards.
I probably gained 50 yards.
Don't ask me how because I'm still pretty thin, you know.
Yeah, how do you do it?
I need some secrets here.
Was it like gym work and stuff?
It was like conscious decision?
Of course you get bigger, but that's pretty drastic.
I guess I just like worked out more, just trying to, you know, stretch more and maybe some like
physio work.
And I guess that all together just helped me as well as with some swing changes, help me just
to hit it farther.
I mean, you're cruising, I'm guessing around 185 ball speed.
Yeah.
I think you're what I looked at as like fourth and fifth longest on lit, but there's a couple guys that I mean to smash it out there, 320 average basically for you.
No, yeah.
I even, I don't look at stats that often, but I even when I played these three European tour events, I looked at driving distance and strokes gain off the T.
And I was like on top on like the three events pretty much.
I was first in like Spain and the Dunhill links with like guys like John and.
and Rory and these players.
I mean, I was one of the farthest,
but at the same time, I was the one that gained more strokes off the T.
So, I mean, I guess I'm doing the right things.
Yeah, I showed up to college into 260 and now hit at 250.
Exactly.
I mean, Ron's one of the best drivers in the world since he came out, basically,
and I can remember distinctly not too long ago.
He came in, was at The Rock, was talking to him,
just got done playing with you.
He was like, I just saw the best driving I've ever seen in the history of golf.
And that's from a guy that I think would be top one or two guys driving and overall driving in the last few years.
No, yeah.
That's nice.
And Johnny's insane.
What's the fastest you've ever gotten your ball speed up to you?
You know what?
So not as fast.
I mean, I probably cruise at like 185, but my max is probably 190, which I mean, it's obviously good.
But I don't think I have that like super extra gear where I can get to like 200.
I could probably get to like 190.
But I mean, it's still 190.
How was it coming over here?
Because it had to be a little overwhelming.
Coming from Spain, like you said, didn't speak much English.
Heard your driver was actually broken when you showed up in Tempe.
No, yeah.
I mean, so I thought my English was actually pretty good.
Because, I mean, in Spain, my grades were pretty good in the, you know, when we did like
English classes and lessons and all that.
So I'm like, man, I got to be pretty good at that.
right and i got here and you know these like trash talking and like talking to you know my teammates and
words like dude or or or you know these like slang or whatever that i i never you know we never even
heard in spain about it so i was i was pretty lost and i was a little shy but i i guess i just
you know got better throughout throughout the years because it was it wasn't great at the beginning
for sure. How long does it take to feel like you can go into any environment, any setting,
and communicate without problems from the time when you got over here? Is that a year? Is that years?
Well, it was weird because we got COVID. I came in January and we got COVID. So I was only in
school for like two months. And then I got back to Spain for like six months. So when I got back,
I was pretty much the same, you know? So it probably took me a couple of years to like,
feel better. But I mean, I had Alex Lerre at the time who spoke very good English, obviously,
and he speaks Spanish. And also, you know, my teammates kind of understood what, you know, how I
spoke and what I was trying to say and stuff like that. So it wasn't that tough, but for me to
get kind of relaxed, and when I was talking, it probably took me two years. Wasn't one of your best
buddies or roommate? Was he like from Montana or Wyoming?
Rick's, yeah.
Yeah, where's he from?
Montana.
Lively, Montana.
I guess there's like, I don't know how many people live there, but not many.
But he's great, man.
He's actually playing on the, on the Qiscoe on the DP tour.
He's like seventh.
I guess tomorrow is the last.
Did they get rained out like a day or something?
It gets rained out today, yeah.
So they're finishing tomorrow and he's like seventh.
So hopefully he gets his card, yeah.
That's beautiful.
That's a good way to learn it.
I think he said like rap music was like a huge thing for him.
And I was like, that'd be a tough way to get introduced to English.
Like, here's little Wayne.
Go get him.
Yeah.
I love that.
You were the first college player to sign with Liv.
Take us through like that process.
What was it like?
And what was the reaction from some people?
I mean, it was a tough decision at the time for sure, first, because, you know,
live didn't even started.
So I was kind of, you know, looking through like,
social media and internet and all that.
And I mean,
no one of what was going to happen.
But,
you know,
I talked with my parents and with my team.
And,
and we just,
we just thought that,
that,
that,
you know,
making that decision was,
was the best for us.
And,
and yeah,
I mean,
reactions weren't good at all.
I mean,
I,
at the beginning,
I think they announced it when we were playing nationals,
like the second day of nationals or
something like that. So it was weird timing for sure because ASU is doing good, obviously. And
and it was just a word timing. But, but yeah, I mean, my, my team and obviously the ASU guys and
and coaches and all, you know, all my, all my friends got it well. But, but there was just some
reactions from people like, you know, who is this guy or we're never going to know him or,
or you know these guys sucks leave sucks you know all that and through social media but
hopefully you know it it obviously got better but hopefully it keeps it keeps getting better in the
future yeah have you noticed it getting better because i mean that was like when it first was announced
that was like when the peak tension i feel like between my pjure and live it's been a few years now
obviously we got the the merger hopefully coming at some point have you noticed just like a softening
from fans or on social media no yeah for sure i mean there's a softening for sure i think bryson is doing
good job too with you know i guess everybody and obviously there's some guys that played well in majors
like brooks and and john and bryson himself so so yeah it's for sure getting a lot better
i personally don't know anything about the merger so i don't know if it's going to get better or not
but at least the fans i think they're just starting to realize that that we're just not bad people
or anything like that we're just playing somewhere else yeah what's your time for a while what's your time
been like because you've played you played four major champions
You never played a PGA tour event.
So for you, being over on Live, like, what's your time been like?
Have you enjoyed every bit of it?
Yeah, I love it, man.
They do an awesome job.
I mean, we've been pretty much everywhere in the world.
They treat us very well.
The courses are great.
People are great.
The players are, you know, if you're looking like history of the players, I mean,
there's a lot of players that are unbelievable golfers.
So for me, just playing with them alongside them and just kind of learning from them, it's been, it's been unbelievable.
Give me, other than Spain, your favorite stop you've made so far.
Hmm.
I mean, Singapore's nice.
I mean, there's a lot of, there's a lot of good places.
I wouldn't know.
The best term is probably Australia in Adelaide, just because there's so many people that it's actually really cool.
But Singapore and Hong Kong, where both were really nice.
nice two good cities right there yeah yeah the australia those are the best turnout in terms of
fans and support and all that i feel i mean i see the clips of them it looks like there's a
looks like they're australia i remember last i think it was last year i i played with cam smith and brooks
kebka on that second round and i mean i was like 20 at the time or 21 and i'm playing with
these guys you know i mean pretty much nobody knew me and i'm playing with them and we probably
have like at least five to 10,000 people in every hole, maybe like 20,000. I mean, you couldn't
see the rough. You stood in the T-box and like the furways were kind of like designed by the,
by all the fans, you know, like there was people both sides, probably like 10 rows of people
from the T to the green. It was unreal. So and when we, thankfully, we played good all of us too,
which made it better, but it was crazy. Yeah, that's sweet. I feel like,
Australia needs more pro golf period.
They don't get down there enough.
And every time they have an event on their president's cup, y'all's event, whatever,
I feel like the turnout's huge and people love it.
No, yeah.
And some of the best courses in the world.
And I don't know if Adelaide is the best city to host it.
I mean, it turned out great.
But I mean, in Adelaide, you have people from like Sydney and, you know,
Melbourne and all these cities and people just literally travel there just for the,
just for the event.
So it's crazy how people love golf there.
Yeah. A popular topic with Live has obviously been getting world ranking points. Where are you at on that? And when you went to Live, were y'all told that y'all were going to get them?
No, I mean, they were, you know, they were pretty just sincere with that.
I mean, they said that and I know they tried and they keep trying, you know, and at the end of the day, it's not up to them as much as, you know, people think.
I mean, I think they, they do the right thing.
I mean, they, they stood up of whatever they believe and it's 54 holes and they, you know, they tried to do everything.
they can and and just the war rankings I guess they just don't want to do it but but yeah they told us
for me in particular I mean I I played on the Asian tour quite a bit and I played well so we
you know I got I got a lot better I think I'm probably one of the only players that actually
got better rankings since I'm playing on live I mean I obviously started on live but I mean I'm
like top hundred in the wall I think right now and and obviously leave don't count
So I, yeah, I mean, for me, it's been pretty good.
That's one thing I mean, I applaud you on a lot of things.
You got a ton of game, but like taking the time to go play those Asian tour events to get your world ranking up,
because I know you want to play in major championships.
I know you want to play on the Ryder Cup team.
No, yeah.
I mean, I knew that I needed to play a lot of events if I wanted to play those major championships
and some other events like the Olympics, right?
So I try as much as I could.
And obviously winning twice helps.
but I think all my performances outside of Lyf have been pretty good,
which led to me playing the Olympics alongside John
or qualifying for like four majors
and, you know, getting higher on those national rankings in Spain,
which allowed me to play on a couple DPTour events
and stuff like that.
So I'm going to keep doing it.
62 to win in Malaysia.
124 helps.
Yeah, if you did that all for.
four days.
Yeah, dude.
You'd probably skyrocketed up these more.
You'd be way inside the top 100.
Were you surprised to get the invite to the people?
I think it's what top 100 type deal and you were right on the fringe or something like that.
You got an invite, which I think was a great call by them.
But was that a surprise to you at all?
I mean, a little bit.
I knew I was, you know, right there in the edge.
Some people from the Asian tour told me that they, you know, they spoke to them and that I should be in.
That's what they told me at the time, but, you know, you're still, like, you're waiting, you know, in days, like, keep going through and you don't get the email or the calls, so you're like, fuck, I'm not going to, you know, I'm not going to play it. I'm not going to make it. But, but, yeah, I mean, the email got through. So, so, yeah, I mean, I was thankful for the PGA to actually, you know, believe in us. And at the same time, I mean, it was just super cool experience for me just to be able to play the major.
Yeah, and the tournaments, it makes the tournaments better. What did you think of that atmosphere there, Valhalla? It was.
pretty rowdy.
Yeah.
No, yeah.
I mean, I didn't play very good, but
the cores itself and
just all the fans, I mean, it was
great.
Another thing, like, you're one of the guys,
some guys on live, don't go play, like,
U.S. Open sectional.
You played your way in and stuff.
I just find that, like, shocking.
I don't think it's fair right now,
the way it's done, and I think it will change,
but if that's, like, the only avenue,
I don't understand why I'm more guys.
Maybe they're burnt out
or been playing so long, they don't care anymore,
but it feels like, dude,
this is you know if you want majors there's still a chance you can still get in them yeah i mean
i don't know i don't know what to say i mean you know every player is different i guess some players
maybe think they they deserve it and to go which i mean i would agree with some players right that
they deserve it but at the same time i mean if you have the option for me if i have the option i'm
just going to try and and take an opportunity of that out of that option right so that's what i what i've
been doing this last two years and it worked pretty well.
Yeah, I've done a hell of a job with it.
Yeah.
I believe the only major you haven't played is the Masters.
Yeah.
How important is that to you?
And have you ever been to Augusta National?
I've been to the entrance.
I played the tournament at Sage Valley back in the day.
And I remember driving to the entrance.
But I mean, obviously you couldn't see anything.
Just the Magnolia Lane.
You should have just turned left and gone on in.
Just knock.
Hey, guys.
I'm here.
I just want to check it out real quick.
No, it was, you know, we were there in the entrance, but obviously everything was close.
But, but no, that was my only time.
And, yeah, we'd love to play the Masters.
Hey, John, Sergio, Jose Marie, maybe talk to the committee.
Yeah, maybe just knowing a guy.
A special invite over here.
Good call.
Good call.
Cool thing you got to do this year brought up earlier.
The Olympics.
How was that?
Did you stay in the village, like, did you go to other events?
Well, just that experience as a whole.
How was it?
It was great until I reached the last four holes, but the first 68 holes, you know, they were pretty good.
The experience was great.
I mean, we didn't stay in the village.
I stayed with John, closer to the course, but we went to the village, I think once.
And we tried to go watch some tennis and some sports, but it was actually, like, super difficult to get, like, tickets and,
And really?
Yeah.
As an athlete, I feel like they, you should get to go over.
I mean, there were some, there were some, like, sporting events that maybe it was easier.
But, like, we tried to, like, go watch tennis.
Like, I remember texting to, like, Carlos Alcaras manager because Sergio is, like, good friends with him.
And, like, they even told us, like, they weren't even allowed to go watch because there was so many people that.
So I guess, I don't know, we were, we were staying, like, 10 minutes from, like, the French open courts.
that that's where they were playing and we couldn't even go watch a we we we just watch a lot of
tv me and john like we're really we literally watch probably every sport like we were watching like
boxing and kayaking and like ping pong and all that it's me and john in the couch you know just
literally cheering for all the spanish guys but but yeah we didn't we just didn't watch it live but it was
it was a good experience if you can pong is sick they're so good it's ridiculous it might be
the most impressive shit in the whole olympics it's crazy you get
Golfers are great ping pong players, historically, you know, as a whole, good hand eye and all that.
You can take the back.
You couldn't return a serve.
No chance you win.
Not one surf.
Yeah.
That's, it's awesome watching.
And they're like sweating.
They swing at it 120 miles an hour and hit it seven feet.
I'm like, it's ridiculous.
When it gets to go in like the slams and the dude returning, it's 22 feet off the table hitting it back.
It's a lot.
Yeah, that stuff.
That'd be badminton is sweet.
Let me ask you this.
Other than golf, if you could compete in one Olympic sport, what would it be?
I think I'd be pretty good at, like,
Rock and Field.
Oh, God.
Running?
That sounds awful.
But like, not 100 meters.
I don't have a chance in 100 meters, but maybe like 1,500, you know?
Oh, you're a long distance guy.
Maybe.
Stamina.
Yeah.
Are you tennis guy?
I mean, you got Nadal.
I'm sure Nadal was a guy you loved growing up.
Now you got Alcaraz.
For sure.
Yeah.
I love watching tennis.
I just, my surf is just too bad, man.
I can't serve.
So you do play, though?
I play quite a bit.
I haven't played in a while, but my surf is just not.
not good. I heard you really keep your cool on the tennis court. No. I mean, I don't even keep it
on the golf course, so I just keep it on the tennis court. But I love tennis. I just,
my serve is just too bad, man. Yeah, I haven't played tennis in a long. You get into pickleball.
I was watching your, it's a lot easier. I was watching your Instagram the other day and I saw your
bio that says like, what does it say? Something about pickleball in there probably, yeah. It's my,
I'm obsessed with it. I love it. Or you just.
I mean, we play the same guys.
Yes, he's good.
I think I'm pretty fucking good thing.
We'll see.
We got to go play some outside tournaments.
We just play with the same little crew.
I think we actually need to go watch one day because I know everybody he plays with.
Okay.
And everybody in that group thinks they're the best.
Yeah, that's true.
So I don't really know that I think they're the best.
I'll say this, though.
We play with some pros.
We know a few in town.
They'll come up like one at a time.
We don't ever play against two at the same time.
And like the difference between them and us is like, you know, you against.
a club champion. Like, yeah, they can play, but it's a different, they just never mess up.
I'm going to say something that maybe is going to piss you off, but...
Perfect.
I think they need to change the pickleball balls, man.
They just need to find a better solution.
Like, like bouncing?
I just don't like the boss, man.
They're like wiffle balls, essentially.
They suck.
Yeah.
I mean, you have tennis and you have...
What do you need about them, though?
Like, they're too slow or...
Yeah, man, I mean, I feel that you...
I don't know.
you just can do what you're supposed to do.
Like spinning it is hard.
Once the ball lands, like the spin kind of comes off of it.
But if you're catching it out of the air on like a wallet, then it matters.
If you want to hit it, you know, kind of firm, like it goes fast, but not as fast as
like a tennis or like paddle or like even ping pong, you know.
And you take one to the dome one day?
I took one to the eye, dude.
I almost lost my eye.
I was a cycle.
I was wearing sunglasses in this podcast for a while.
People are like, what are you fucking doing?
I was like, dude, I almost lost an eye.
So to please.
The ball goes plenty fast.
If you get up there and you get these fast exchanges and people speed it up,
it'll smoke you and it leaves marks, no matter where it hits.
Maybe they can just find a smaller ball, but maybe something different.
I don't know.
So it's faster.
That's part of the cool part.
You can get to so many balls.
Like you keep points alive that probably should be.
Just like we were talking about them ping pong.
One guy's slamming it and they send it back.
But yeah, if you're looking for something that's a little easier.
We've got to go check this out one day.
Yeah, come.
It's the best.
Where do you play at?
We got a couple buddy house that they got courts down there.
And it's a war, like how you are on the golf course.
Like you're a little fiery, I would say.
That's fair to say.
It'll feel right at home.
There's battle breaking and throwing.
It's so fun.
Yeah, I lose it.
I remember Coach Thurms has one at his house.
And we used to like go play with the team.
And I just, I just lose it.
I need to bring at least like two or three rackets.
Yeah.
We have extras just for that reason.
The first one, these are.
appears in like in like five minutes like I get so pissed they break pretty easy too we've
had like a graveyard of battles over there like yep that was Thursday who breaks the most in yaw's
group probably me really I throw it the most whether it breaks I have been yeah for whatever I'm like
I'm never I'm not a club slamer club breaker I don't freak out on something pretty like chill most of
whatever reason dude that pickle I fucking lose my brain when we lose it I miss it I meanigolf dude I
I lose it.
In minigoff?
No.
I don't have it.
I don't think I...
I probably played minigoff maybe like five times, five times throughout my life.
But I mean, every time I go to a mini golf, like I lose it, dude.
I just, I mean, I don't break the potter just because I think, fuck, if you break it.
Yeah, if you break it, you'll need to go in the shop and like, you know, with your face.
Like, you know, you'll need to...
I hate that fucking clown.
Trevino was not impressed.
Mark, go ahead and write this down.
Our next YouTube video is mini golf with David Pitch.
Yeah, that'd be fine.
And you can't bring your own putter.
You got to use a little rubber-headed piece of shit that they got.
That would actually be fun.
We got pop stroke here.
We got the puttery.
We got all kinds of places.
Yeah, we got a lot of options on that.
Maybe we do a little Olympics day.
We'll do pickleball into.
That'd be fun, actually, to get like a competitive real players.
And these guys playing put pot pot.
We could commentate that.
I'm in on this.
That'd be sick.
This will be great.
I went with Sergio and.
an ape and someone else in Singapore.
We were staying at the, you know, at the hotel, wherever.
And there was this like mini golf literally next to the course.
So, so we went one night.
And I mean, obviously these guys at the same time,
they want to play like Wolf on a minigoff.
You know, you have this freaking hole.
It's like this and you're putting for like 400 bucks.
You know, my mind is like, holy shit.
If I don't make this, I'm going to lose 400 bucks in this freaking mini golf hole.
But, you know, then you miss it.
And I see myself.
of just throwing the parts and they're so strict there.
I mean, you can't do anything in Singapore, you know, like,
because if you do something bad, like, it feels like you're just breaking loss, you know.
Yeah.
But there's like flowers flying and like the potter is flying.
And I mean, I look at myself.
I'm like, what are you doing, man?
I don't know if I like it more that you get pissed or that y'all professional golfers
in Singapore.
Like, what do you want to do?
Let's go play pop pot.
Yeah.
Well, I love that you can't do it.
But you don't get enough golf.
Butge is forced to withdraw because he got in trouble with.
it, mini golf last night.
He's actually being detained in a Singapore prison for breaking the windmill.
You joined Wishbarak, like a little over a year ago, two years ago?
January, actually.
Yeah, okay, yeah.
So you knew.
Not even a year ago.
Started playing in the games.
You actually have been playing a lot with an NBA legend, Dan Marley, okay?
Thunder.
At what point did you realize, like, who Dan Marley is?
I don't think I even realize it.
You still don't know?
He still doesn't know.
I just, I haven't watched him play.
or anything, so I haven't followed him or anything like that.
So I would probably need to do that.
But yeah, I mean, I don't really care if he was that good or not.
I mean, he's just a nice guy.
So I just love playing with him.
He's not that nice.
He was done by the time you were born.
So it's a little, it's forgivable.
I told you we were playing the other day and he's like, the Olympians will take you all
on.
And you're like, you're an Olympian?
Really?
In what?
Old man.
He's the best.
There's another guy named Charles Barkley.
You'll see him.
He also played basketball.
I know him.
Oh, that's beautiful.
Are you into American sports?
I know you're a Barcelona guy, right?
Yeah.
Soccer.
Have you gotten into any American sports?
I mean, I watched the last game of the World Series for baseball.
Yeah.
Which I thought it was pretty cool.
Yeah, it was.
That was a great world series and I don't care about baseball at all.
The Yankees, they just fucked it up, man.
They were winning like 5-5-0 and they just, yeah.
They just,
yeah,
they just fucking gagged it.
But,
but yeah,
I followed that and,
and we went to,
the first NBA game,
like two weeks ago.
How did you like it?
The Lakers' sons.
It was cool.
Yeah?
Yeah.
How big are those dudes?
It's ridiculous.
Did you go with John?
No.
Oh,
you should go to his seats.
I know.
You get an appreciation.
No,
but we,
I mean,
we had decent,
we had decent seats and it was,
they're huge.
It's unbelievable.
Yeah.
Even like the guys
when you're watching on TV,
like I remember,
growing up a Maverick fan like Jason Kidd who was a badass or Steve Nash you see him on TV and they look small and then you see him in person like Jason Kidd was a member at the Rock forever and I'm like good Lord you are huge I mean even Thunder I probably he's one of the shortest right well he was he was five inches taller when he played yeah he just walks so fit to over now
he does don't knock down knock down with that like he's getting it around he plays some damn good golf his body's been beating shit I'm pissed at him okay he made me give him nine shots the other
day and he whipped my ass and I wasn't happy.
He was like one of the dudes
at the time, like going toe to toe with
Jordan's like he was... And he's a
golf game's solid. We got to find
his name on the wall so Pooge can sign right by it
or sign over it.
Oh, it's five inches taller.
I mean, even look at it.
When he shakes your hand, do you not like
dude, what are, what am I? I'm an infant.
Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. I mean,
they just have crazy myths. The guy, the guy
literally wants to try my
strikes. I have some tricks and errands at home.
and he wants to try them.
I'm like, man, you'll need to change the grips for sure.
Yeah.
I don't know what he used.
He probably uses the oversized.
They're like baseball bats, yeah.
Yeah.
He's a golf nut, though, man.
He loves it.
He'll play every day all day.
Oh, yeah, it's crazy.
Yeah.
I want to talk a little about your short game and just the Spaniards in general.
Y'all short games are just absurd.
I mean, some of the shots I've seen you hit around the greens.
The last few months are unbelievable.
All your teammates at Arizona State said it's not even a contest, but who's the best bunker player?
they've come across.
What is it about you Spaniards that are so good around the greens?
I don't know, man.
It's not that we have the best facilities, you know, in Spain.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I guess we're just good.
I don't know.
Are you like a technique guy with your chipping?
Are you just like straight?
I'm going to hit this low spin or whatever.
I had some like coaches in the past that, you know, they kind of told me like,
hey, maybe you should do these or that.
but I kind of listen, but not really, you know.
I feel I just haven't changed much since I pretty much start playing off.
So it's something that it's just all feel pretty much.
And it's, you know, obviously there's a couple of things that I work on.
But it's all feel.
And I guess it worked out pretty good so far.
That's refreshing.
Do you work with anyone on your golf swing?
I do, yeah.
I work with Dave Phillips, the TPI guy.
Yeah.
John does as well.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He's great.
But, but, you know, he gives me some tips to, you know, to keep getting better.
But he doesn't want to touch my short game.
He thinks it's one of my best parts.
And he's good with that too.
Yeah, good coaching, Dave.
Yeah, leave it alone.
What has he done with your golf swing from the time you start seeing him?
So I probably started with him maybe like two years ago.
We kind of change some setup stuff.
I was a little bit this way with my upper body and my lower body was kind of towards the right.
So I was, I would get, you know, stiff on top and then.
Yeah.
Matthew Wolf.
A little bit, yeah.
And that also caused me some lower back injuries as well.
So I kind of changed that.
That for sure gave me some more distance and also consistency and also just, you know, I feel better with my body.
So it was a good change, Dave.
Yeah, and you started going and hitting it from 260 to 360.
Good change.
You think, obviously, being from Spain, playing on Live where you travel all over the world,
you see yourself staying in Scottsdale?
You like it here?
I do, yeah.
I mean, I grew up in Barcelona, so it's way different.
I feel in Barcelona when we go out on, at least we're,
When we don't play golf, like we usually don't take a car or anything.
You just, you know, walk or take the subway or stuff like that.
Here in Scottsdale, it's impossible.
I mean, you got to drive everywhere you go.
But for golf, I mean, it's the best place on earth.
I mean, I joined Whisper Rock and Silver Leaf.
And I mean, I show up to both places and I'm like, I'm kind of living a dream, you know?
Like, you get there.
And I mean, it's so great that it's just hard to not stay here.
There's good people.
There's great players.
I mean, you got ASU down the road.
I'm assuming.
I think you're a donor now.
Are you not a donor to the program, right?
No, yeah.
Well done.
Yeah, I forgot about the bird.
I mean, you show up to the bird and it's like, it's crazy.
That place is awesome.
It's crazy.
You did a whole tour down there.
Yeah, it's sick.
Do you spend time?
Like, such a great, I mean, there's great facilities everywhere, but that like
wedge facilities, spectacular.
I haven't, I haven't been there in a while, but, but obviously, I mean, throughout my three,
four years at ASU.
I mean, I remember the first year.
that we stayed at dorms.
I mean, we even, like, watch Netflix at the bird.
I mean, we left the bird at, like, 10 p.m.
Me and the Montana kid, Ricks.
Yeah.
I mean, it was like 8 p.m.
And, I mean, you know, we finished chipping or whatever.
And we got dinner or something.
And, like, we just stayed in the golf lab,
just watching Netflix like a movie or something.
And then we left at, like, 10 p.m.
It's a good spot.
It's loaded with food.
I mean, it's like, I mean, if you're a golfer, that's heaven in college.
For sure.
Work out if you want to.
Are you close with,
Jose Le?
Yeah, very close.
Yeah.
I mean, you guys have like,
ASC's got like a monopoly
on the Spanish channel.
So I lived,
I lived with Riggs,
my four,
my,
all four years.
And I lived with Hosele and Preston,
two of them.
Okay.
Talk to us about Preston
because I've heard he's a rather messy roommate.
Yes.
How bad?
He's pretty bad.
I mean, he.
Preston,
clean it up.
So he has a girlfriend now.
For such a pretty boy,
I'm sure.
He has a girlfriend now.
He has a girlfriend now.
So he's probably,
better with that but I think at the time when you know he didn't have when he
didn't have a girlfriend or whatever he was pretty messy I mean there's this like
little we we build this like kind of golf room and with like a simulator and all
that and I mean after one week it was all like you know sweatcases and freaking
t-shirts and you know golf clubs all over the place so I mean it's
stop being a golf, you know, a golf room. Now it's just freaking Preston's storage room,
pretty much, yeah. Yeah. Nice. I got to figure he's a roommate that takes the most time getting
ready, too. If you go out at night, got to be. I don't know about that. Just say he is,
probably, yeah. Okay, yeah, perfect. But Joseil, Joseil is so slow. I think I got to give him,
I think I got to, I got to give him that to Josele. Joseil is the slowest guy to get ready ever.
He feels like the most, we had him in here after one, the am, he feels like the most mellow of the Spaniards that I've come across.
Yeah.
I got, you know what I mean?
In terms of like temperament not there?
He's a very like laid back vibe.
Yeah, but he's, he's just always late.
I feel like he's always late.
Yeah.
Like late.
And then he's just, yeah, he's like super chill.
Like he doesn't have any like, you know, he's like slow and goes to places and he's like slow and you got to wait for.
him and, you know, pisses me off a little bit.
And he steps up on the tea and fucking smashes it.
Yes.
God, 190 balls beat.
It's absurd.
You guys got to be pretty comfortable, though, aren't you?
Off the tea?
Who gets to?
He's longer.
He's longer than that.
Yeah.
He's a specimen.
He's got pretty decent jeans.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, he's strong.
I will say one thing that coach brought up that he is very proud of and you should be
as well.
The fact that you ended up graduating Arizona State while you're on live, man.
That's pretty awesome.
How?
Do you just do everything online?
I did.
for a year. I, you know, obviously lost the scholarship. So I went through the portal and picked up
all my classes and, you know, put the credit card there and just paid for all the classes and
finished it. Yeah, good for you. That's cool. That's cool. That's really cool. I just,
I didn't walk, though. I didn't go to the graduation or ceremony or anything like it.
You got that diploma. I got the diploma. Yeah, he's back home in Spain. So my parents can say it,
you know, and they're, you know.
How long it take you to do all those, like, online court to get it done?
Just, I mean, just the extra year.
I mean, I was doing fine.
So I just, yeah, I just finished it.
I mean, it was pretty easy.
But, you know, I did it.
Wow.
Harvard of the West is easy.
I mean, they just gave it to me.
No, man, but I mean, I did communication online at ASU.
Like, it's not that I was, you know, like studying four hours a day.
I mean, I was just doing.
whatever I need, but I mean, it was...
The world needs communicators.
Yeah.
And now we got another one.
Yeah.
You got a degree.
That's something to be proud of.
Let's get to the E9 here.
All right, we ask us to everyone.
You can be somebody else for a day.
Anyone in the world at any moment in time, who would it be?
Wow.
I don't know, man.
I got to think about that.
I would probably be...
I would like to be maybe like Raf and Adah now that I was...
That you guys mentioned him.
I mean, just like being him on like a finals at a French open or something like that, you know,
when he's playing like the match and you know he's going to win, you know, and like you,
you were him and you kind of play the match and then the ceremony and all that.
I mean, I think it'd be pretty cool.
You got to get good at like pulling your shirt, scratching your nose and grabbing your junk every time.
Yeah, you got a big of wedge.
Maybe that's what's wrong with your surf and tennis.
Yeah.
You don't grab your ass before you do it.
Yeah.
Do you do that on pickle bar or not?
I'm going to start.
Now that I remember Nadal does it, I think I'm going to start doing it.
I'm normally not wearing underwear.
Okay.
Good God.
All right.
First one, we talked a little bit about the Spanish temperament.
There are some iconic tempers on live.
Like, I would say the elite elite, which you're squarely in the mix, by the way.
But I need the David Pooge top three tempers on live.
I mean, Henrik Stenson got to be up there.
God, yes.
He, I love the guy.
That's a sneaky one.
That's a sneaky one.
That would be.
I would not have had that on the list.
He's got to be the first one for me.
Does he lose his mind?
I've got some great Henrik stories from Brinthold.
It makes me like him even more.
He's the best.
And he's hilarious.
He's the best.
Do you want me to get into like detail here with the stories?
Oh, if you got a story.
Yeah, I'd love to hear one.
I mean, we're playing him.
Where's that?
I think it's like read or something.
It's not a live event.
It's like an Asian tour event.
And like he, you know, he's kind of thinking about this shot and like grabs the
seminar and like pulls it a little bit.
goes in the water and he just grabs it and tomahawks it.
And there's this like microphone probably like 20 yards and hits the microphone and the
microphone explodes and his club breaks at the same time.
Hell yeah.
So he just walks and grabs it and whatever.
And like on the next hole, I thought I hit a good driver.
I walked into the fir when I couldn't see my ball.
So we're, you know, we started looking for it and I lost it.
So I went back to the T, whatever.
So I mean, it was just chaos.
for like two holes for both of us.
But I mean, there's more stories, but he's the best, man.
Henry is the first for me.
And then I don't know, man.
The other players, I feel that they're, you know,
at least on my team, I mean, Sergio is a different golfer.
Like I obviously saw videos from him in the past,
you know, when he threw the shoe or all the, you know,
I think there's one when he's in the bunker.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And like in Sargara's that I guess someone said something and he like turned, you know.
He's at a few.
Yeah.
But now he's great, man.
I mean, he doesn't get that pissed.
What about Tyrell?
Yeah.
I thought that would be a layup for him.
Terrell, yeah.
I just love the guy too.
Yeah.
I forgot about him.
He's great, man.
But he, yeah, he gets pretty dicey.
But it just, I mean, I can't stop laughing when he says all that.
You know, like you're standing next to him and he's, you know, he's saying all
these things and you're like next to him and I'm like fuck I love this man we have we had him yeah
it's it's different kind of freak out but it's awesome when he uh he was playing the buyer nelson
on the PJ tour a couple years ago and we had a set on 17 myself and Amanda ballionis and he came and
sat with us and we're like going back and forth questions and man was like terro how about you
call some golf here call this next shot and he was like was kind of caught off guard and it was so
bad it was comical like him trying to call a shot so the next day I have his group and I'm with him
And he has like this 20 footer for eagle
and he leaves it three feet short and right.
Goes up, taps it in.
He comes walking over to me.
He goes, that put was almost as bad as my fucking commentary yesterday.
I was like, this is my favorite guy to follow.
By the way, he's so good.
And then he'll just lose it at any moment.
It's fantastic.
Dude, we're playing with him in Vegas this year.
It's the last day.
I mean, the weather was so bad.
I mean, it was blowing like 30 miles an hour.
I mean, it was pretty bad.
and like he's like 10th at the time or like 8th or 9th like he's playing pretty good you know and he hits
this one like 10 yards to the right and like he looks at me and alverton he's like that's the
worst i swung a club in the last eight years and the guy was like you know probably like 10 under
part at the time or whatever i'm like to what are you talking about you know yeah i literally
visit every piece of rough this golf course guy you're in the right center of the fairway yeah
You just miss one.
Why do you say that?
I mean, I'm like, but Overtil loves it too.
He's great.
All right.
Same kind of thing as far as the temper.
We're going to put you,
Henrik Stenson, and Teryl.
Most likely to break a club
during a casual round of golf.
We can throw John in there, too, if you want.
I think it'd be pretty tied
between me and Stenson.
And maybe John.
I've been with John when he's done it
during a casual round of golf.
I mean, I don't know we've break up.
a club but like there's for sure some club throws on in that you know in that group for sure okay tomorrow
when we play i need you to throw some more unless you're my partner and then don't miss hit a shot
okay that's my advice all right yeah that'll that's um that'd be a good group all right i'm gonna give
you a golfy golf one here categories are that follows okay you got driving driver irons short game
putting build me the best spanish golfer ever i mean driving i mean driving between sergio and and john
Yeah, that's a tricky.
I have what I think.
I mean, statistics, it's probably Johnny's better.
But like when Sergei's on, I mean, he's crazy.
But John, I think John is a little longer now, so I'm going to take him.
Okay.
John driving.
Irons.
Olathawa, he's going to be.
Yeah, got to be.
I mean, short game's got to be savvy.
And putting probably Ola Thabu again.
I mean, he was a good pot.
Yeah, I didn't know the putter, but.
John rolls it pretty nice, too.
Yeah.
I spent two hours one day with Jose Marie and Reno at the short game area,
and he was like helping me and just watching him hit shots.
Yeah.
People can't do what he can do with his hands.
It's just ridiculous.
No, yeah, I agree.
What a nice man he is.
Pudding.
I don't know if there's someone else that actually pudts it really well.
I mean, Johnny's great.
Sergei has been putting great this year.
Yeah.
Yeah, he has.
He had a great year and finished third.
Yeah.
Crazy turned around that putter.
All right.
Next one.
Let's see.
Have you ever switched hotels in the middle of the night during a tournament?
Yes.
And he was in Singapore.
Hopefully Alverta told you this one because if not, he's going to be pissed.
My friend actually works at the hotel in Singapore.
Yeah, we got some connects in Singapore.
No, yeah, we get to this hotel.
It's like a holiday inn.
And at that time, I mean, when we were playing outside of Lakers,
like we were just sharing rooms you know it was we're traveling alone so we're like okay we're just
going to share rooms but it got to that point in singapore where you know the room was pretty small
and and he just felt sleep before i did so i mean the guy is snoring out of his mind man i mean i'm there
like i put ear plugs in and they don't work so i put my AirPods and like i start like i just put
them on and like this Spotify turns on and I'm like starting to like listening to like rap or
something at like literally like max volume and it's like 10 at nine and I'm like holy shit so then I
I you know I take them off and I mean I just couldn't do it anymore so I literally wake up and
I grabbed my backpack and I walked downstairs and I ask for an extra room like hey can you please
give me another room like I can't do it anymore and they're like sorry sir but you
know, we are fully booked.
So I'm like, no way.
I got to go back to that.
So I walk outside and I see this hotel like 100 yards away.
And I'm like, dude, this is my time.
So I walked there and thankfully they had a room.
So I'm like, yeah, put me in for six nights.
I'm going to be here for the next six nights because I, you know, I think I was just
literally watching me with a backpack, you know, I'm telling him at the time that I'm staying for
six nights.
He's probably thinking, I mean, how many, you know.
Yeah, right.
You don't have clothes.
Like this guy doesn't have underwear.
But, but yeah, I did it.
I text Alberto.
And I'm like, hey, man, you're good, you know.
But I'm just, you know, just so you know, like when you wake up, I'm not going to be there.
I'm freak out.
You know, I'm just on the hotel next door.
And I guess he just read that message at like two in the morning.
And like he wears like glasses.
So, so like, you know, he can't see anything.
I guess he walked to the bathroom like slowly just to try to not make noise or anything.
thinking he comes back and he grabs his phone and like sees this message from me, you know,
and he's probably thinking these guys literally three feet from me right now. And I guess he turned
on the lights and I wasn't there. And we ended up winning the tournament. Yeah, you're leading by nine
going into Sunday. So after that, we're like, okay, we're never going to show rooms. We don't have
the room together ever again. Yeah. So that was the last time. Yeah. I'm with you on the snoring
thing. I can't do it. I'm props to you, by the way. You could easily just gone over and like smack them
And like, dude, you're too loud.
You got to go.
You got to figure.
I'm trying to get some sleep.
You could, you know?
You packed up your shit and walked down to the hotel.
What a guy.
That's what I do to my wife.
Just smack her and say, stop it.
Shut up.
Trying to sleep over here.
You're only allowed to fall asleep after I do.
I'll tell you when.
All right, my next one.
What gets under your skin more?
Losing money on the golf course to a guy who cleans teeth for a living
or hearing, let's go Pueg as you're hitting a shot.
Losing to a dentist is tough.
Yeah.
I heard the Pueig stuff is...
It sets you off a little bit.
A little bit just because, you know, they should know my last name, you know, by now.
I mean, it's not that I won like five majors, but I mean, it's Pooch.
It's not that tough.
But anyways, probably the dentist.
I mean, I still get Pueck.
I mean, if you haven't seen the last name ever, I mean, you see Pueg.
I mean, you're going to say Puech, right?
It's Pooch.
That'll change.
Give it time.
That fucking Dennis, though.
He probably calls you Pueeg too.
He does, but I like the guy.
I mean, I just obviously hate losing to him, but I mean, he's nice.
How about the pars that guy makes?
I know he's going to watch this, so it's really fast, dude.
Yeah, he makes a part, and then he obviously pops on the same hall, so he's a birdie, you know, and you're fucked.
Shout out to the good doctor.
God, I just left the dentist this afternoon.
He just absolutely destroyed my fucking mouth.
You've been winning too much.
All right.
I got to go.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how appropriate do you think it was that you threw your sandwich at
Sammy Valamaki during the Olympics?
Oh, God.
Why you got to throw your sandwich at Sammy?
Guys representing his nation.
I was so ashamed.
I couldn't play for the next four holes.
I'm like, what just happened, you know?
But we're playing.
I'm playing pretty well.
I'm playing pretty good and I'm like four or five under and I get to the 13th of the golf national
I don't know if you guys remember the hole or not it's probably water on it yeah it's like this short
part four that kind of goes to the ride Rory hit that like six shot from that down here I don't
if you remember that or whatever I hit in the freaking ride lake three days out of the four days I played
but that was the second or third day and I hit in the lake and I drop and I make a bogey so I get to
the next T-box and I put there and it's a part five you know so I'm like come on hit the furway and
you know hopefully you you get it back and I hit in the right rough and I'm like I'm so pissed at
that moment I'm like I'm like losing it I am you know I'm starting to like think about you know
how can you make a boge and then you miss the fur away and whatever and Alberto hands me this like
sandwich it's like yeah man it's just time tweet you know and I'm like I'm not even thinking at
that time. I'm like, fuck, man. I'm so
pissed. So, so I
grabbed the sandwich, man, and
I just throw it.
But I, but because I wasn't thinking,
like I throw it over like Sammy
Balimaki's head.
And, and
this, like the guy's, you know,
trying to prepare for his shot.
You know, he's not over the ball, but like
he's kind of walking towards it.
And the sandwich was like, you know,
lettuce, tomato. Like, it wasn't
heavy. It wasn't like a P.B. and chair
anything like that. So, so the
sandwiches like literally flies over his head and like opens up and like the tomato goes to one side
and the bread just smashes like the like the board behind but the lettuce obviously it's not heavy
so he literally dropped in front of his ball there's like there's like 200 people at the t-box too
you know watching the people is probably are probably thinking like you know what just happened
but sammy like he for sure saw the lettuce but i mean he didn't
even like walked out or like looked at me or anything just was there and just striped it you know and
while we're walking like i'm like hey man i'm sorry and he was just laughing so i guess it was
that's beautiful that's a good dude yeah but but yeah i was so ashamed then this is the old sandwich
throwing i was like what what what did i do that is hilarious i'm not gonna do it again that's
um okay last one
You like to play little cards on the road.
I've been told you like to go heads up, Texas Hold'em against Sergio.
Career earnings, who's getting the better of who?
I mean, for the record, I've probably been to a casino maybe like twice in my life,
so I don't gamble or anything like it.
But, yeah, I mean, we just play some poker when we're at home.
Yeah.
Or when, sorry, when we're playing tournaments.
He's probably won more than I did.
Yeah.
but it's fun.
That way.
Respect your elders.
We play for like,
we play for a hundred bucks,
you know.
Yeah,
it's more about the pride though.
Like buying it's a hundred box and you just play for fun.
Him,
Ape,
and the team manager,
Andrew.
So we just,
we just have fun.
But Sergio is probably,
he's probably leading right now.
It's a good idea to let the guy that owns the plane win.
Yes.
Just some advice.
I fold.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Time we leave tomorrow.
Yeah.
All right, last one.
All right, freshman year, show up.
Your classes were a little later and everybody else,
so you had to rush out to Silverleaf where you're a member.
Okay, there's quite a big group around the first tea
that included John Rom and Pat Perez.
Can you please describe your first tee shot at Silver Leaf?
Okay, so we are...
Okay.
We had a team practice the day before,
and we're just doing this driver thing and mine broke,
like the face broke.
So I grabbed Thurms driver, a ping driver he had at the time.
So I started to hit it.
I'm like, okay, it's pretty good.
So I brought it with me to Super League.
But yeah, we showed up to the first T.
And obviously I see John and Pat, and I didn't even know they were there.
So I'm like, holy shit, are we playing with these guys?
You know, I haven't met John yet.
So it's not like now that I, you know, I see John.
You're like, hey, man, how are you?
So, yeah, I was pretty nervous.
I didn't hit any balls or anything like it, so I show up to the first day, and I remember I
snapped hooked it, like, left of those bunkers there or there.
It was in play, but, but yeah, it was pretty bad.
I got some interesting information because I was told you topped it.
Nah.
Nah.
It went at least, it went at least $250 for sure.
Oh, that's not a top.
So you smashed it as a freshman.
You smashed it.
Well, maybe like $2.40, but I mean, it was, it was on grass.
short of the desert.
Oh, that's nothing.
I mean, I reached the green and two with a meat iron and I made parts.
Yeah, easy.
I thought it was like, when I first heard I was like, oh, it had to be three wood.
Because everyone tops three weeks.
I heard you topped it.
I could just see Pat looking at Thurham being like, oh, really?
This is the guy who you recruited to come over here?
They probably didn't tell you who the sixth guy was.
It was Ben Herman.
Oh.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
That's a friendly entry.
It was Ben, John, and Pat.
And then he was three of us.
And obviously I saw Ben with like the flip flub.
and whatever he was doing.
And I'm like, who is this guy with a cigar at that time?
He smoked cigars.
I'm like, who is this guy?
You know, I love this guy.
I mean, I was there.
Like, man.
I did hear you went on to shoot 64 that day and beat everyone's ass.
I don't know.
I forgot about that.
But I think it was fun.
Yeah, we had a great day.
That's beautiful.
Well, man, this has been so much fun.
It's been really good getting to know you over the last year and playing some golf with you.
Absolutely slapping me around most of the time.
But looking forward to doing it again.
Yeah.
Appreciate your Pooja. Thanks for making the time, brother.
Thanks, guys. You got it.
All right, that was David Pooge, joining us on golf subpar.
I feel like this is a guy, obviously, not a lot of people really know what he's like.
They've seen him play if they've watched the Asian tour, the DP World Tour, or live.
But don't, haven't gotten really a good chance to know him.
I've been spending a lot of time with him the last few months playing a lot of golf with him.
Great kid. Super talented. I love him. Sneaky funny.
He has a couple of things that you can't tee. One, he smashes it, which is,
crazy because we talked to him when he showed up at ASU.
He was short by account of Coach Thurman, right?
And his hands around the green are sickening too by all accounts.
John Rom raves about this guy.
Virtually everyone that plays with him raves about him.
He's a guy that if he hadn't gone to live and just went to the PJ tour,
let's say there was a PJ tour, you'd gone through cornfrey and gotten there.
They'd be a guy who'd be really pumping.
It's like, hey, here's a next kind of up-and-coming guy that could be a major champion type
of a deal.
He's that good.
And, you know, he went over there to live.
He was the first guy, first college kid.
to sign to go over to live and like that was interesting i thought talking to him about that
kind of felt the wrath from you know there's a college kid like dude i have a chance to make this
kind of money right off the jump you know bypass cue school bypass all the non guarantees over here
it's a hard decision to say no to and it's like at the end of the day it was a 20 year old kid like
how you can just how you can hate on a guy that tries to make a you know the best financial
decision for himself it was wow but he's he's done well and he's played really really well on
tournaments outside of Live as well.
Yeah, and credit to him for playing on the Asian tour, trying to get that world ranking up,
getting major championships.
Obviously, Pete tried to be eligible for the Ryder Cup come next year.
But I love this kid.
I did, once again, I went back to my source, Coach Thurman to ask about the T-shot at Silverleaf,
and Coach Thurman said he 100% topped that ball.
He said he hit it in the fair way.
He was there.
A little different story there.
He hasn't made his way into American sports yet, but I feel like he has baseball pretty much
nailed. He's a great analyst.
I have him on inside baseball.
David Pooge will break that thing down for you.
A lot of fun, man. Get to know that name because
you're going to see a lot of them. He is a stud.
All right, let's get to what we do
best. Some little gambling.
Coming off a little 0 for two for us this
past week. The Green Bay Packers
played the Chicago Bears. They should have lost.
Honestly, the Bears had a field goal blocked
with no time left. So the
Packers let me down. But that is just my second loss
of the season when I've given you picks on subpar.
Yeah, I think I have two wins.
Maybe. Oregon had them go into Wisconsin, winning that thing easily.
I joked at the end.
It might be a good time to take Wisconsin money line.
Damn near would have worked.
Yeah.
Wisconsin kept the close.
I lose again.
I suck.
Thank God for the Denver Broncos.
I love you.
Well, that gets to my pick.
I'm going with your Denver Broncos.
Minus four and a half in Vegas against the Raiders.
I expected to be probably 50-50 as far as Raiders, Broncos fans.
Bo Nix.
I'm a Bo Lever.
Coach Sean Pets.
Dayton. They're rolling. It's just four and a half. The Raiders aren't that good.
They know it's a rivalry game. They do not like each other. But hey, let's keep this thing going.
Give me the Broncos minus four and a half. I like that. Let's do keep this going. Like I said,
those next three very winnable. And then things changed dramatically after that. All right, Denver Broncos for you.
I'll stay where, you know, you got to stay hot, stay in the college football ranks here.
I was this close because I actually do like it to take your SMU Mustangs.
But you just can't do it over Virginia. I should do it just maybe I'll curse it.
him.
Hey, whoa.
Because I'm a hater.
I'm not a hater.
I did like that bet,
and I probably will still bet it.
But I'm going to go
with probably the biggest game of the week.
Indiana,
making some moves.
Just sign their coach to a monster deal,
got them unbeaten for the first time in history.
They're catching 11 and a half at Ohio State,
who I don't know that they're as good as advertised.
They don't seem to look all that impressive when I see them,
and I just think it's a statement game for Indiana.
Again, almost 12 points,
a team that hadn't lost.
yet, and they're hungry, I'll take Indiana.
And I've been taking a lot of favorites and losing, so now I'm
taking a dog. That's a lot of points
for an undefeated team. They're good.
And they're beating the shit out of people.
All right, so Ohio State's going to be by the way. They haven't
beaten great teams, by the way. They haven't
beaten great teams, but they are killing people.
All right. Well, best of luck, if you want to follow that, or you're just
fading sleaze, you're doing pretty well this year.
Yeah, you just do, you can win either way.
Well, if for some reason, there is not
an episode of golf subpar next week.
Might as well go and tell you why. We're heading up
to Vegas. We've got a fun couple of
days. We're going to sit down with our man Monty Montgomery out at Shadow Creek for a little
interview. Then we're going to get into a little something we're probably not real comfortable
with, a little souped up off-road vehicle with our people over at Zone. Kyle Bush, the great
NASCAR driver, is going to take us on a little joy ride through the desert. What could be better?
That's going to be, and we're playing Shadow on Wednesday. We'll have a little wager on 17T
loser or winner gets to pick if they go first or second. I don't know. We're both losers. I don't
know what's better. I'm going to be terrified regardless, but I kind of feel like first might be better
because Kyle will be feeling out, you know, this dune buggy or whatever it is.
And then by the time the second guy gets up, he'll have it figured out and know how far he can press it.
But either way, I will be shooting my pants throughout the California desert.
Looking forward to it.
Two hours outside the strip, middle of nowhere.
It's been nice knowing everyone.
We'll talk to you out next week's subpar, hopefully.
