he deposited a rather nice check into his truest bank account. My goodness, what a win it was for him. And just his 15th start on the PGA Tour Slays. He had won twice around the world early in his career. This is his first win on the PGA Tour. A guy who'd been sneaking up on the leaderboards the last several weeks, had a very close call there, the Zurich Classic. But he crossed the finish line in a big way around Quayl Hollow.

Yeah, some sneaky good golf kind of starting at Valero. That's kind of where it jumped off. Finish runner up at Zurich, but team events so a little bit different. but he's been he's been quietly playing some really good golf and i mean how about this the guy that you know handful of years ago almost gave up the game played horrible on the deepy world tour funny enough was was contemplating giving up competitive golf getting into youtube golf he's like the reverse bryson like i ran out of places to play i'll do youtube bryson's like i can play anywhere anytime i'm going to go to youtube but uh good decision by him to stick with it um also good news

for luke donnell he's got another another option potential in a year and a half. With Rayton and Alex Fitzpatrick, both playing good. They got some dudes going over there. It's a long ways away, but I like where they're at current. I feel like they're half a lap ahead right now. They're deep. Their bench is very deep.

It'll be interested to see what 12 make it come 2027. Yeah, long ways to go. I did not think we'd ever be talking about who could possibly be the best golfer from Norway right now and it not being Victor Hovlin. I mean, Chris Raiden and Victor still, his resume, He's incredible. But I mean, Chris Raiton, I think he's probably playing better golf right now, but pretty wild to see two guys from Norway.

They grew up in the same town there in Oslo to come over here. Now they're both PJ Tour winners. Yeah, that is wild, actually. I didn't even know they had like a crop of talent like that over there. I feel like it snows most of the year. But, yeah, Victor, I mean, still kind of waiting for him to pop. He remains like the enigma on the PGA tour. It's like he always seems to hate where his game is.

And he shows up and he plays good golf or content. or wins last year when he said he was going to take the week off. I'm not too concerned about him. But, yeah, I think he just needs to quiet his brain a little bit. Just turn that off and just be a golfer. Like, he is so, so good. I feel like he's kind of just always caught in between. Yeah, but also great week, Ricky Fowler, who shot 65 there on Sunday, man, he had a chance.

Crowd was on his side. He was coming, had the disastrous three putt of the 13th, stuffed it on the 16th and missed it, and then bogeyed the 18th to end up finishing tie for second. and lose by two, but good to see Rick back in the max, Rick back in the mix. And then also, Alex Fitzpatrick once again, I mean, he was your 54 whole leader. His life has changed so much in the last three weeks. I believe he's 22nd in the FedEx Cup standings.

He has three tournaments that count. I ended up finishing tied for fourth this week at the truest, but just so impressive to see him continue this great play. 2.8 and change. Schmillion for the young man in the last three weeks. Good move. Thank you for getting me on the Zs. Zurich. I'm glad he's playing like this, though, too, because the top 10th Cadillac played really well and then contended, obviously, was the leader, you know, going into Sunday this past week,

but to kind of put the bed, the narrative, Colt, that it was like, oh, Matt gifted you a PGA tour card. He carried you to a PGA tour card. Like, if you watched that final round, Alex was maybe doing some of the heavy lifting there, but like this kid, he is playing where he belongs now. And I know that was like the narrative. If he had come out, Colton, finished 45th and 48th in these last two signature events after winning people like, see, this is a bullshit deal. You shouldn't get, you know, straight into the signature events and all that. So good for him. I mean, he ain't going away.

That golf game looks pretty consistent. Just plays that left to right. Hits it hard. And he did, by the way, he's done it on two of the more difficult golf courses that you'll get on the PJ tour too. Yeah, really cool to see, man. So pumped for him. I got a chance to talk to him on the range a little bit on Sunday. I was like, do you have a place over here?

And he's like, no, I'm actually looking now since I'm a full-blown PJ tour member. I'm like, oh, I bet the house got a little bigger in the last couple weeks. If you're looking at. Yeah, good news. There's a lot of options for you when you're making 2.8 every three weeks. And it ain't slowing down. He's got some big ones coming up. Yeah, must be nice to see those deposits hit the account.

Some big ones. Yeah, top 10 gets you more than what the winners check would have gotten you in Turkey when you were taking that red eye over there. Play that golf course. Yeah, things are looking up for Alex. Well, there was another tournament on the PGA tour. The one flight out of Myrtle Beach. How about Brant Snetterker?

So freaking cool, man. over 2,800 days since he last one on the PGA tour, almost eight years, his 10th career win. Tough one for us. You know, we love Brandt, love Mark Hubbard, who ended up finishing bogey part boge to lose by a shot, feel for Mark. But such a cool story, considering Brandt, you know, had the brutal injuries a couple of years ago, hasn't had full status the last couple of seasons, goes out there and wins, gets a two-year exemption, gets in the PJ Championship this week. I mean, he's the President's Cup captain. You could just see how much it meant to him. He was super emotional.

lost his mom a couple of years ago, pumped for Brand. Yeah, normally these opposite field events, you kind of see the young guys, like, launched their career there, win for the first time. You know, Chris Goddorup comes to mind, things like that. But here's Brian Snetterger, damn near eight years removed, getting it done. It was cool.

Like, it was emotional, personally watching Hubs take the lead on 15, and then Brant making Bogie. And I was like, this is Hubs. He's going to get this thing done. He's had a bunch of close calls, played a ton of events on the PGA tour. Haten gotten over the finish line. So that was tough to watch, you know,

him making boogie. on 18 to lose that thing. But there were some good storylines at that. Quail Hollow obviously takes the spotlight. Blades Brown was like a shot away at one point with a handful of holes left of getting special temporary membership on the PJ. Tury needed a two-way tie for third. I believe he was one shot out.

Missed a short pup, made a bogey coming home. And then the other guys went forward and ended up missing by a few. But top 10, going to get him another start, I believe, down at the Byron after the PJ championship. So a good week from him down there. And he might be on special temporary membership. There was some cool stuff going on. But, like, super, super pumped for Brandt to win that.

Watching Ricky get close, I was really pulling for Ricky over at Quaul Hall. I thought that would be an awesome story and hubs at Myrtle, some close calls on some feel-good stories. And special thanks to Ricky, by the way, for giving me a little ride up here to Philly. Ran into him in the locker room Sunday after he finished up and he's like, you want to jump on? I'm like, yes, sir, I do. That would be great. Thank you. What can I do for you? How many ounces of fluid am I allowed? Can I bring this Desani water bottle with me or they throw me out? He put me to work. I'd help babysit the two kids.

Now that Spirit, error is shut down. That's a good alternative for you. Either Spirit or Air Ricky. That's right. All right. Yeah, thanks to him.

Also, one last big winner of the week. And we're going to get zoned in with our friends at Zone Nicaratee because our man, Boo Weekly was zoned in, winning on the PGA Tour champions for the first time,

won by three over Ernie L's at the Insparity invitation all down in Houston. I am so pumped for Boo, dude. He's the best. I mean, talk about feel-good stories. Who's got more people to love them than Boo Weekly? Just an orangutan fighting, tweet-making machine out there to see him still doing it, getting that thing done, getting it across the finish line.

That's awesome. Also, nice to see somebody challenged Stuart Sink, who had a horrible week, by the way, fifth. Maybe time to go back to the drawn board, you know, figure out the game. He does have the PGA this week against the big boys, so you got a chance to show it. But that was seeing Boo. Seeing Boo do anything, really is normally fun, but seeing him win out there. too after all these years. Shout out Boo zoned in for show.

I gave him a little shout out at Harboretown because he's a two-time winner around there a couple weeks ago. And I get a video on Instagram, I believe from his wife who was filming the TV. And then you hear my voice say it and the camera pans to him. And it said boo. And it said, boo who? Put a little, little love from Boo there. But he's one of my favorites, man. We've got so many great stories together. But that was cool to see him win. I don't know what was more popular way in Brant Snedeker or Boo Weekly on Sunday. You know what kind of millionaire Boo Weekly is? Motai.

That's right. Don't you ever forget it. Don't you ever forget, mota. Oh, so good. So good. What a story. But thanks to our friends over at Zone Nicotine. So ladies, PGA Championship, before we get to talking a little bit about that,

you got your first taste of the golf game of Johnson Wagner. Wagyu, our guest this week as well was kind enough to take us out to Carolina Golf Club on Friday for a little match. you and I against him and his brother, TJ. But what did you think of the Wagyu up close and personal? As advertised, by the way, all these like knives and skulls into people's faces and bones across the grid. He gets out there and he's chipping at like little baby savvy. He'd hold out twice.

Two chip-ins for the kid. I mean, the game's exactly what you expect from a guy. It's a three-time PJ tour winner and then doesn't play anymore. Like, it's good. The good is really good. And then there's a couple little weirdos where like we all do where you make bogeys where you shouldn't make it. But, dude, he's the best, man. Shout out to his brother, TJ, who was a wrecking ball out there,

dummied us as a, was he getting nine pops, but, I mean, there wasn't no bagging involved. He just played really good golf, but that was a hell of a good time. Fun Donald Ross course there at Carolina's golf club, but anytime you spend with the Wagyu is a good time spent. It was awesome, man. Love it. And just for an update, I did win the indie, now four and one on the season.

Correct. He's got two chances this week at the PGA. We have a little spot over at Marion on Thursday and then checking out the new Trout National on Friday. Big boy golf. Big boy golf. This will separate it, by the way. He was making a late push, too, the chip in on 16 to square it up. I was like, this could get juicy.

Yeah, got a little tighter in a line. Then a little boo-boo on a little four-footer on 17, and that was all she wrote. But, yeah, what a lineup you guys have, too, playing this week. That's nice. Yeah, it's going to be a lot of fun. And as the PGA Championship, the best in the world are headed up here. to Philadelphia is one of my favorite stops

in the great United States of America. Yeah, you're just not one of the brothers that they love. No, I'm not, but it's okay. I'm going to be in the booth nice and safe, hiding behind Jim Nance. Everybody loves Jim, so I should be safe all week, but no, all kidding aside,

it's going to be great. It was awesome being up here last year. The fans were a lot of fun. They're very loud, boisterous, which is fine. I love it. Get passionate. By the way, there should be,

they should be no reason why Aronovic is not packed all week long. They ain't got much else going on up here, sports-wisely. The flyers got swept, as did the 76ers. So sports fans, come on out and watch some golf. If you got some anger that you need to let out, feel free to bring all types of batteries, single-A, double-A, AAA, AAA, the big boys that you put in, like cars and shit, just sling them on into the old tower there.

Aim at Frank Knobalo, please. Yeah, and then write something on it so they know who sent you. Yeah. But as I said, PJ Championship, second major of the year. Scottie Sheffler coming off a week off. Roy McElroy played three solid rounds last week. Final round, 67 there in Charlotte, a place you expect him to have a chance to win every single time. John Rom, finished tied for eight at the live event, playing some solid golf.

Dander, disappointing week last week. But who are some guys other than the big dogs you're keeping an eye on? Yeah, that was a good question. I was going to get into you. I'll tell you what's a great sign right now. And it's not just one week that it's like, oh, yeah. got a good week, everything clicked. But Ricky Fowler is starting to play some good golf.

Playing good golf and he's playing it in big events as well. I know it was like the two puts coming down the stretch, 16, the bogey on 18, which you could blame on the second shot. But he's 12th on the year in putting. He looks like the old Ricky. Going back to that old putter, the stroke looks beautiful. He's a guy that I'm hopeful is going to play well. And then I think you got your Tommy Fleetwood, you know, kind of J.J.

Spawn, like that tier right there. J.J. is a guy I'm super high on going in the week. I feel like it's kind of starting to click. after last year. I think he was, you know, playing not good golf early the start of the year, but also being launched into a different stratosphere in terms of when you play not only, like, you don't just get attention now when you play good. You get attention when you play bad and you got to go talk about it. Like he's one of those guys now, but it's starting to look really good. Those are a couple guys that got eyes on. I think there's a couple interesting ones too, BG.

Justin Thomas showing some nice form going into the weekend this past week. Did not have a great weekend out there. And then the big question, like the storyline, the best storyline, the best storyline I think you could have potentially would be can Jordan Speeth play 72 holes? Can he play 72 holes and play his way into contention? That would be like the all-time great scenario for the week, I think. Sorry, line. Yeah, he's, I mean, you talk to him. Obviously, he's always extremely positive, but he says, I'm close.

He just, he's got to get rid of the big numbers. It's what's killed him. And this week, just talking to guys, like the rough is up here at Aronimic. The fairways are not crazy narrow. The defense of this place is the Greens are extremely severe. that sets up extremely well for him. I mean, the more crazy wild breaks were lag putting is a big deal. I think that helps Jordan Speed.

It would be an unbelievable story if he could get in the mix this week. Day us at CBS would love nothing more than Jordan Speed to be in contention come Sunday. Ratings would be through the roof. But yeah, that would be awesome. All of the golf world would love that. I mean, Jordan's beat got about as loyal of a fan base as there is out there. And it's been a while. The only thing gives me pause, like, do I think he can do it?

Absolutely. Like the good stretches of golf are really good. It's just his bad is too bad. He shoots himself in the foot too often and goes backwards and can't make it up. But could he go out there and do it? Yes. But also, like I kind of think, and he's multi-major champion, so it's not like it's his debut. But winning for the first time after a long stretch of not winning and to do it at a major,

I kind of feel like you need to be in the hunt a few times at some other events and just kind of get your seed legs back under you because it's been a minute since, you know, he was coming down the last four-fifes. five holes with a chance to win a golf tournament, much less at a major championship. Yeah, but hey, he's won three of them. He knows how to get it done. It's going to be a very exciting week up here at Aroneman. Can't wait. Scotty Sheffler's obviously your favorite, as he should be. Cam Young, the guy we just didn't mention either playing some pretty good golf. Had a weird Sunday. Not sure what happened there at the truest. Maybe ran out of gas a little bit, but he's a monster, dude. I like him a lot this week. Let's say what, let's get to some picks here.

obviously head on over to Kalshi, the prediction market, and we're going to make some piss. We're doing top 20, top 10, and a win and see if we can get hot here with our friends over at Kashi. Top 20, Slee's. A little dark horse here. I believe he's like a, he's right around 110 to 1 to win, but we don't even to win. We need him to top 20, but I feel like the golf world doesn't know a ton about this guy yet. We've been high on him for a very long time. He's coming, and I'm interested to see what happens with the old live situation because I want to see him out on the PJ

tour because I think he's that good. I think he can be a multiple-time winner out on the PGA tour. But David Pooge is playing awesome golf this year, and he's got to start at the PGA championship, him to top 20 this week. Yep, I love it. Enormous game, probably built for major championships. It's a crazy long, crazy high. He's the type of guy, like, if he had been playing all of his golf on the PGA tour,

I think he'd be the guy that's being touted as, like, the next great young European. He goes and chases all the D.P. World Tour events. his points. Hopefully he starts getting in the major championships more regularly. We'd love to see him play the Masters and things like that because, I mean, the skies, speaking of European Ryder Cup team, there you go. There's another one. Like, they're just, they're all over the place over there. So I love, love Pooge for a top 20. Going on down the board, a little top 10 play here, BG, just talked about him. Can me JJ Spom. Yeah. Northeast Golf, got a dry, like, you know, similar aesthetic, I guess, you could say to Okman out there, but more than anything,

way his game's trending like teed a green this past week at uh quill hollow he was phenomenal putter just fine you know he finished top five but i just feel like he's just kind of gradually rounding his game into form i love him for a top 10 yeah i was actually watching him hit balls Saturday and sunday at quill hollow coach adam schreiber was there and we both just kind of looked at each other and like yeah uh the swing is there he is he is coming right now um the putter's the the big question for him but i am very excited with where j j spawn is with his game right now. He is a flusher, and this place should set up very well for him. As it should for the guy, we think is probably going to win the PGA championship.

Let's go out on a win. Back to back. Scottie Sheffler, I mean, week off, I love that. Came up here Sunday, get a little work in. Randy Smith will be here. I know how much this tournament means to Randy and Scotty. Randy being the PGA professional, he is one of the best to ever do it. But we're going to go Scotty Sheffler with the wins, please. Yeah, I think he's got. as much of a chip on his shoulder right now

as you can have for a guy who's already won this year and seems to finish in the top 10 every single time. Rory going and doing what he did at the Masters, not having won since the Amex. You see his interviews with reporters is a little more chippy than he's been in years past since we've seen him take over the world of golf more or less.

And the fact that he didn't play last week and he's been up there prepping. Yeah, I mean, how can you not? I mean, you're not like Scotty Schephyr. He's the guy every single week he puts it in the ground. I like him every week. And I also like Kalshi.

Talk a little Quill Hollow, a little PGA championship, how his life has been over with his new family at CBS Sports. The great Johnson Wagner joins us on Subpar. All right, what a treat it is to have this man here with us today. Three-time PGA tour winner turned. golf media sensation, fan favorite shot recreater here at the home of Johnson Wagner.

The house that Johnson built. Quail Hollow, good to have you, Johnson Wagner. Definitely the house the Harris family built, but thank you. That you live in. Third time on the podcast, too, so thank you guys for having me. And you've lost me three times this year. Oh, I couldn't get to that. I couldn't get to that.

It's perfect. It's worth words out right now. Right. We were talking about three. I was like, oh, this works out perfect. Well, we got another chance at it today. Yes, we have a big battle. Sleaves and I are actually going to be partners today,

which is weird for us to root for each other. We've got you and your brother. Brother's sneaky. I think he's clocking in around the three and a half right now. Yeah, we've been asking around town about this. Word is. Pretty nice stick. We just go off of what USGA says.

I'm not taking any strokes. We're all going to play straight up, and T.J. is going to get what he gets. There you go. Fair enough. Roofing around town is he's a scratch. At some point in his life, he was a plus. Point five, but currently he's, you know, he's a working man,

and I think he's at 3.2. We'll see. Okay. Whatever. I mean, you're the host. Yeah, you're home for you. How cool is it, though, for you? I mean, I know you obviously love doing the TV.

You're a golf fanatic, but to be your home golf course for the truest championship, it's got to be a special week. It's a special week. I mean, my brother, TJ, who we're playing with, he runs player services, has for the last 15 years. His wife and my wife both work in there as well, checking players in throughout the week, early in the week. And it's a real family deal here at the Truist Championship. Quail Hollow, the membership, we love having.

We love having this event. We take a lot of pride and putting on the best possible event we can. And, you know, the golf course, unfortunately, got a little saturated, but it seems to be what happens here. We come in and it's perfect, and then we get a ton of rain like PGA last year,

but it's going to be a beautiful weekend. I talked to Justin Thomas on Wednesday, and he said the Greens might have been the firmest he's like ever played, which is saying a lot. Got a little rain, but it's starting to dry out. The next few days look perfect. But just talk about, how much this tournament means to this city because they show up here they do i mean part of the

mission of quail hollow when it was first built was to host high level professional golf mr palmer was good friends with uh johnny harris's father uh james j harris and that was the goal so they've had uh the kemper open was here before it moved to dc and then they had the world seniors here and then wakovia into wells fargo and now truish championship so it's like the mission statement of this club is to host big time events and when you see the city of Charlotte come out and support this like they do every single year, whether it's been the PGA, the President's Cup, or the truest championship. People from all over the Carolinas love coming here. And you get monster champions here like we talked about before. You got Tiger,

you got Scotty, you got Rory. And it feels like this is a major championship venue. It feels like just like bigger, you know, there's more space. It's a huge property and all that. And also like a good lead-up, I would think going into next week at the PGA, the Aronemic, like this is a nice place to play to get your game tuned up before a major championship. Oh, I mean, absolutely. It is a major championship venue. We've had two PGAs and yeah, you said that about JT with the Greens. It was primed to probably be more difficult this week than it was for the PGA championship last year. Just because we hadn't had any rain, the Greens were stones. It's been a lot of fun leading into this tournament to play out here as a member. We always talk about like playing at home.

I mean, it feels like there's added pressure. I mean, you got so many ticket requests and all this. What was your best week here? 2018, I finished 11th. I was in the fourth class group. with Phil Mickelson on Sunday and just the biggest crowds. Like, I always put so much pressure on myself here that I eventually started making the cut pretty consistently. But whenever I got in the hunt, there was one year, it was like 2015 maybe. I was on the 15th hole. I was in the top 10 on Sunday, in the front bunker in two.

Took me five to get out of the bunker. Can happen. It can happen. Made a nine. And it was just heartbreaking. But yeah, 11th. Pretty good run. What's your low round just ever?

around here? Well, from the back T's probably 65, but my brother had clients asked me to play. This was 10, 12 years ago. We played the second T's, the two birds, and I needed to make two birdies in the last three holes to shoot 59. Oh.

Didn't birdie 16, didn't birdie 17. Penn was back left on 18. I piped one down there. It was, you know, 460 yards, so I hit wedge in and back left flag, one hopped, kissed the stick, and stopped this far behind it. So I tapped in for a 60. which I like to tell my brother, I hope he got some business out of those guys.

Absolutely. If that doesn't get it done, you got to get some different clients. Damn, what happened to that game? It's not there anymore. This kid right here. Your ab. Does it feel like a different life ago, like playing on the PJ tour? Because you've had such like a quick ascension of the world of golf media.

Fans love you, your shot recreation stuff. Does it feel like it hasn't really been that long, but it feels like it has? Yeah, my last event was in the fall of 2022. It feels like a decade again. That's wild. What was your last one? Bermuda, the Bermuda Championship in 22. And then I did Golf Central the very next week for Golf Channel.

Fell in love and never really even thought about it. The next week you did it. There's no break. Did you know when you were playing towards the tail end guys kind of start thinking like, okay, might need to look at chapter two here after this end. Did you know that's what you wanted to do? Not really. I mean, it kind of came out of the blue.

The whole Golf Central tryout thing. Did you reach out or they reach out? No, a buddy that I played high school golf against Kevin Ryan. He has been a researcher at Golf Channel for 15 years. And he reached out and said, hey, your name came up in a production meeting. Would you have any interest in doing a trial week? And I was like, yes, I would love to do that. So that was really fun to just to see it. And see all that goes in it. I don't think as former players, I don't think a lot of people realize what goes into making a golf tournament happen. And I actually took some friends into the production truck yesterday. And just while, Sellers was producing. And it's, it's a must, I think, for any rookie on the PGA tour to spend 10 minutes in there. That's funny. You said that because we had Gary Williams here yesterday, and we were talking about, I mean, players, they're not scared to criticize the broadcast a little bit. And I said, as part of rookie orientation, I think every player should have to go in the TV compound for an hour and just take a look. Because I think, I mean, Slees,

I took him in a couple years ago for the first time. Like, you're just blown away by what it takes to put this on air. How many people are involved walking into the truck and just seeing there's a hundred screens. Are you kidding me? Like this is this is how this goes. I was like I think you would appreciate it a lot more. Well and that's what when you see a guy like Akshay Batia, this was a couple years ago in Puerto Rico. He was the this is where he got his temporary membership. He finished third. He hit the ball. He was 15 yards in front of a couple other guys on maybe the 13th hole. And it was Randy Corey, old school camera guy, banged up knees. He's the guy in the know the Fairway, he starts coming with the sticks and the camera on it.

Akshay backed off, put his club back in his bag, let Randy settle. And then he got into the, and so, like, seeing young guys that get it that are taking the time realizing this guy's there to make me look good, let me let him get to where he needs to and not, like, turn around and yell at him. Like, some players can get a little bit whiny when it comes to cameras on him. And that's what we're trying to do. You know, it's funny. You said that because a few years ago, John Rom was, he was tough on the

camera guys. And I pulled him aside just as like as a friend like hey like you do you. I just want to let you know like this is kind of what we see and what going on. I was like and he was so like accepting of it. And he went and he actually talked to sellers and all this and just like get a little like perspective about like, hey man, these guys are just trying to do their job. Like they have no idea where your ball goes. If it's a good shot, a shitty shot, they don't know. They're just, they're doing their job. Like let's respect that a little bit. Well said. I'm glad you did that. And you know what they've, I feel like in the last couple years, let's call it, players have done a much better job with. And kudos to them is like willing to participate in the broadcast after they get done.

They come back, they do interviews. Some of them sit there and, you know, they'll call shots for an hour or whatever. They're the show. Leaning in more, which is like every fan out there is like, oh, we can get Roy McRoy in here to talk about the golf course that he just got off of. Like, that type of stuff helps a lot, too. It's so rare, especially for, you know, Jacob Bridgman, who has won on the PGA tour this year at the Genesis. It is so rare to get an opportunity as a player to show your true personality. And any time that you get that opportunity, I think players should do it.

It's so good for them. Sponsor-wise, too. Anything you can do just a little personality in golf goes miles. Absolutely. Get in there and just show it. I mean, like Max Homa did the first ever, like, walk and talk with us, CBS made Birdie. He went on to win the golf tournament. But I was like, can you, I mean, he had at the time title list on his hat.

I was like, do you understand how valuable that is right there? They're getting three straight minutes of airtime or whatever the company is. I thought this was a nice place around here. I didn't know Johnny Harris allowed spiders in here. Well, it's not Augusta, I guess. Let's talk a little bit about your golf game because, first off, we love having you at CBS. But my favorite part is I have a golf partner now on Fridays. You and I have been trying to play pretty much every single Friday.

You love the game, just like I do. You're a golf nerd. How has your time at CBS been? And how do you feel about your golf game right now? Golf game, it's been really fun. playing with you. I think you've pushed me to care and make birdies more. Like when I play back cars, whatever. We're playing like 6,400 yards. So we do play the fun teams. It looks good. Yeah. But it's been fun playing with you and having matches. Like I play with my friends out here at Quail.

And, you know, my brother's the best handicap I play with at a three and a half. So I'm playing with a lot of higher handicaps. I miss playing against competitive golfers. And that's what I've enjoyed the most about us playing the game. My first couple months at CBS had been awesome. It's been a dream. I mean, working Saturday, Sunday, hearing Jim Nance say my name. Every time he says it at the beginning of a broadcast, I'm like, not only does he know my name, but he just said it. I mean, it's really, it's been surreal. And I'm looking forward to PGA Championship, obviously. It'll be my first major where I'm on the ground inside the ropes, walking with groups. So it's going to be a blast. And, you know, we're in the middle of a big run,

but I just, I've enjoyed every step of the way. Is it not wild, like when your phone dings and it says Jim Nance? Yeah, it is, it is wild. It's wild. I still, I mean, this is your, like, five or six for me. And I still, every time the phone goes off and I'm like, Jim Nance just texts me. Hello, friends. Yeah.

What's his voicemail? Is that how he does it? I've never called him. That's one of it. Yeah, go. No, he does, but he'll do your voicemail for you if you want. Yeah, that's, was it Phil? Yeah, Phil, want to bet against him or something.

And the rule was you have to record my voice. So it was like, hello, friends. You've reached the voicemail of whatever, six-time major champion film. Now with television, I can see myself getting better, and it's like there's this new career that I want to continue to strive and improve on. a three-time winner on the PJs who had a great career out there. And now you get out quickly going to golf media. And like, I would say now, like, your notoriety going through an airport or something. Like, I mean, dude, you're 10x where you were before in terms of, like, fan fairs. I think 10 is low. 10 is low. Yeah.

Yeah, people actually know you. No, seriously. And that's like, that's what I mean when we're talking about players, if you have the opportunity, like when I was with Golf Channel doing walking talks and guys would turn me down. and get a little bit of personality out there, it goes a long way. And that's, like, I'm, I've always said, I wish people liked watching me when I played the tour. A couple years ago, Doddy was nice enough to split the final pairing with me. And I believe it was Wyndham and Zander.

And the next year it was Zander and Roy. But like coming down the stretch there, especially a place like here, like I get excited, even though I'm not playing. I'm just calling it. Walking as a year old role, my new role, walking is the closest thing to playing golf. Because you have good days and you have bad. If you get a group, like I've had Scotty so many times this year on Saturday. You've been stalking Scotty, basically. Sunday at Pebble when he made the run, I had him.

And like coming down the stretch, like you definitely, you feel it. Not that there's like nerves like that, but it's, you definitely have the adrenaline. And you get to watch the best player in the world. Like I told him, like he's the rabbit is what we call it. Like if anybody's making a move on Sunday, this is where he goes. And it's just so happened this entire season basically. Guy's like, yeah, fourth to last group. So Johnson's with.

with him and I mean you I laugh all the time I was like walking with him Rory John Rom back in the day it's like at what point did I ever think I could beat these guys it's easy to how about where they drive it yeah it's shocking and people all they're asking me all the time like what about the champions term like I'll be eight years removed from professional golf like there's no I can't compete with Stewart Sink you ever that guy no nobody can yeah right now by the way and there's some more coming that's who are like good they're He's probably out, and I know. Pat Perez.

Ogilvy's coming. Yep. Like, we're going to have some good players. You found a nice little spot. But you're calling card, the shot recreations of, what's the first, how did that, what's the genesis of that? When we, like, whose idea was it? Do you remember your first one and when it, like, took off? Yeah, so when I first started a golf channel, Matt Hegarty's like the studio boss, he's the main producer of live from, everything.

He's been there for a long time. You remember Frank Noblo's on the course stuff he used to do? It was called All Access. Yeah, we were like... They would go out to major championship venues two weeks ahead of time. They would record a bunch of stuff, like six holes of stuff he wanted to highlight. And then they'd air them as if they were kind of live on Live From. So I told Matt, when I first met him, I was like, dude, I'm here because of Frank Nobalo and watching these segments.

No one's ever said that. It's true. I loved what Frank did so much. And Matt was like, after I've been there a year, he's like, hey, I've always had this idea of wanting to go. out and hit these shots live after the round. And he said, would you be interested? Yes, I would be interested. So there was maybe three of us, Matt, myself, and another producer, Jeff Fabian.

So we would kind of have a text chain and get together and decide on a shot to go do. What was the first one? The first one was Thursday at the players. The players, yeah. And it was threw the ball. Yes. And it was Rory's, it was Rory. I forgot the throwing, dude.

That was when you blew up. People loved the pro. It was. Rory had sniped it on 18, starting on the back nine, and didn't take a questionable drop at all, but then sniped it on seven, and that's when he was playing with Jordan, and they were getting into it.

So I get back into the Live From trailer, and Jeff Fabian's like, do you see this Rory thing on seven? I was like, yeah, he said, go take a look and see what she can do. So I went out there, looked at it, and I was like, if we get the camera angle that shows the ball bounce,

and I throw it into the ground, I can prove that he took a good, that his drop was fine, because if it lands below the line, you're not going to see it bounce. And so I'm just out there. My son was with me, so we did a little long toss in the fairway.

Are you a lot of the other? Yeah, I mean, I'm just trying to get 180 miles ball speed altitude. You were like, I was like, he's going to have Tommy John after this. So I was, you know, I practiced a couple throws too before we went live. And I was like, okay, I got to hit it right here.

And when I threw it for real, the one that landed above the red line and just darted left and you couldn't see it from the camera angle. So I'm panicking. And I call Matt on the way back to the hotel. And I'm like, dude, I feel like I just basically proved that Roy took a bad drop. And he's like, have you checked social media yet? And I was like, no, why?

And he's like, just call me back when you get to get back to the hotel. And I got back and I looked at it and people were just thought it was hilarious. Same hole the next day, right? You had to hit the punch slice. Rory forgot right trees. I cannot believe he tried that shot, one. Oh, I mean. And then you had to go recreate it.

And I had my son's clubs. I didn't have mine, and they're a little bit flatter. And so it was a four iron. This is my excuse. Yeah. You got to get the real scoop, though. It started right. It was not a shank.

I'd be proud to admit if I shank it, but it started right, and it just drilled the tree. And probably almost came back and hit me. I mean, that was a perfect intro to the world. The throwing, people would clip that and put music to it. You'd have your arm going over and over. It's just the best stuff of all time. But for the people listening, it was like, they, yeah, go ahead. I would have to think the highlight of that was the bunker shot in front of Bryce in that.

For sure. Oh, course. How cool is that? I mean, for him to come out, for him to come out after he did everything that he did, it was amazing. And the first one I scold over the green. And then I'm going up to go look at the putt that Rory missed. And as I'm coming out of the bunker, he pulls up in the cart. I had no idea he was going to be there.

It was really cool. Rich Lerner had asked him when they went to commercial, he's like, hey, Johnson's getting ready to go hit your bunker shot. You should go out there and show them how to do it. That's awesome. And that's the trajectory because people have seen you embarrassers, you know, hit horrible trips and then to hit the one, and with Bryce in there, that was like the pinnacle of it.

But for the people who only tune in to watch you hit these shots, which there's people like, tell me when Johnson's going to hit. Give them like what happens before that. When you're notified of the shot, what happened, like you have no warm up, all that sort of stuff. So how you're going in there and then all of a sudden they're up. I mean, generally I've just been, generally I have, sat all day watching a major championship in the live from truck with Brandl Rich, Paul McGinley.

And then once we decide on the shot, I go out there first and foremost to see if maintenance will leave the flag, if it's around the green, because it's very, makes it a lot better if the flag's there. And then I just crack my back a few times, stand and wait for about an hour and 20 minutes. And I don't want to hit any practice shots because you're at a major venue. You don't take any divvets. So I just make some swings. And then you go. too, though. When you're going out there, people are like, oh, wonder how he's going to pull this one off?

Like, you've literally been sitting there all day. Like, this is it. And you're how old now? 46. Yeah, it's not like you just wake up and you feel loose. No, definitely not. Those days are long gone. That's why I didn't play very well those first couple holes with you at Doral. We didn't have a range session. So today, I'm getting

to the range. Oh, are you? You're going to hit a lot of balls? I need a minimum of 12 balls. That's it. Yeah. No problem. Plenty, dude. A couple of eight irons. Do you still, like, practice at all? No. Like ever. Like you won't just go to the golf course and hit balls for an hour. No. It's either we're playing or we're not playing. Yes. Because Lee's getting ready for the four ball. He's been putting in. He calls himself Vijay-like. People were comparing me to Vijay,

Hogan. He said he was on the range for an hour the other day and he compared itself to VJ. It felt like four hours, dude. Have you been on, imagine going in balls for an hour? No, I was 15 minutes in. I was like, I'm done. I need to. I should. I should go back and see my old coach. I need to get better, but I just, I don't know. You're busy. If it's, if it's Wednesday and I've got an hour, I'd rather, I'd rather go to the bar. You got your same practice. Or to the Queens lounge and get a little manicure here. My brother was just getting, he was in the massage chair over there. Oh, they'd take good carry in here. Great carry. Give me the one, what shot, what was the most disastrous shot you hit in the shot

recreation. What was it, was it, was it the open chant? Oh yeah, he scalded into a lady. Yeah. That was a hot one. So this wasn't really a recreation. It was early in the week. I think it was Wednesday.

And it's like go out there and highlight some, highlight some spots. This is Royal Port Rush 16, the par three with the, just the, it's, this bronca down to the right, just this massive hillside. And our air time is still during the day over there. And so there's a lot. lot of people on the golf course playing. And so who is, I think it was Jordan Spieth and Wyndham Clark were coming through 16, but there was nobody behind him for like 30 minutes. So I knew I could like fit it in this time slot. So I'm like, hey, we're going to tape this. We don't have anybody

coming. And so as soon as they got off the green, I walked down there, tossed a ball. And the grandstand had been packed behind the green because of Speeth and Wyndham. But as soon as they got off the green, people started exiting. And so I'm, because of speak, let's be honest. And so they're all exiting out. And like I talk about this thing on the hillside. And I'm like, just don't chunk it, just don't chunk it. And I catch it square in the middle of the forehead.

And I'm like, I hate yelling four when I have a microphone on because I don't want to blow out my camera guy's ears. Fortunately, the marshal that was staying there yelled four for me. And people in the grand stand, people. in the grandstand, they were like scamping. They're like, oh my God, make him stop. Make him stop. It's like a grenade was launched into that place. And so then I had to go up and talk about this little bathtub thing on the left side

where's where you want to hit it. And meanwhile, my son's with me. And he's just like off camera. He's the biggest smile on his face that he had that entire night. It was just, it was disastrous. And it could have, like, that's the only time I almost really could have killed something. Did you sign him all for? I did

It needed a little bit of an update As far as distance We played Tigers event AT&T National there In 10 and 11 When Congressional was host In the U.S. Open I was first alternate

it on site the first year, but then got in. And 11, so I did play a tournament there. They took a lot of trees out. And it's a nice, you're going to be happy you're not on the ground because it's got some rolling hills to it. It's not the easiest of walk. But with all the tree removal, the rough when I was there two weeks ago hadn't quite popped, but with all that tree removal, the grass conditions, the fairways were amazing.

The greens, the bunkers, everything is absolutely beautiful. I had a chance to play the last three holes for our people. PGA preview show with Jeff Kitty, the head professional there. How'd you do? Well, it was made for TV, so we got some Mulligan. Oh, you're editing. You're like a content creator. I didn't edit it, and I thought we were just going to play three holes and then capture all the footage, but we were, you know, hitting extra shots and hitting chip shots from certain spots.

But I'm excited about Aronimo, classic venue had the 19, they had a PGA way back in the day. and the 19 way back in the day. So like golf course wise, depending on how they set it up. Is this like a little baby U.S. do you think they'll grow the rough up, a little like kind of baby U.S. open type? It didn't seem like there was enough time

to get a massive amount of rough. And the PGA of America is always kind of keeping it right around three, three and a half inches max. So I think it's going to be playable rough, but it is thick. There are some spots that if it dropped like left of 18, if it drops down in there, it is going to be hard to get to the green.

They do a good job the PG. I feel like with the setups of like making it tough but not like extreme like you know USGA kind of gets with some of theirs there's a there's a stretch on the back nine and depending on the wind 15's a long par four up the hill it's like 520 yards and then 16's a short par five playing back down the hill it's like 545 they just couldn't stretch it out anymore and the pro said if given the right wind conditions guys are gonna be hitting you know eight irons seven irons into the par five and probably hybrids and no iron into the par four so there's some

But the par threes, 17 stretches out to 240 yards. I hit three wood. And it took me three to get it on the green. Three shots. So it's going to be a good test. I mean, it's when you move into the PGA to May, I mean, these Northeast courts, like, they're just getting into golf season. So it can be like, I remember the first year we had it in May was Rochester. Well, Beth Page first when Brooks won.

Sorry, yes, you're right. But Rochester was. I mean, like, it was it was dicey, the weather. I mean, that's kind of what you risk. Yeah, exactly. I mean, Oak Hill, it was freezing and raining. So that, I feel like they're probably like a month away from getting the golf course exactly how they want it. But, I mean, it's going to be pure as can be for the PGA, I'm sure.

I thought Oak Hill did an incredible job that week. And membership didn't play from October. They didn't play. I can't remember if it's the, which there's two courses there. But they didn't play it for six, six, eight months leading in. And at Aronimo, it gets the same. No play since last November. So it's a big deal for a membership in the Northeast to give up their club for that long.

Like here at Quail Hollow, when we had the PGA last year, we gave it up. We didn't have it for two weeks leading in. And that's it. I mean, especially up in, like, Philly. Granted, I don't really, not a big fan of the Philly people. Not a great time. They're very nice and respectful, but whatever. But, I mean, your golf season is not that long up there.

So for them to do that, I mean, that shows you. you, they're all in. They're all in. We need to share Philly stories off, uh, off camera sometimes. They're great. I really enjoyed the true championship last year at Philly Cricket Club, just getting worn out on every fairway. I've heard enough of go birds or go whatever. Yeah, I hate them. All right, heading into the week, Scotty Rory, obviously. I would say Cam fits. Those four have kind of separated themselves this year. who else is on the radar for you? I mean, I think Xander Schaulay is just sliding right under the radar right now in such a way. We've been talking on radio and all this stuff about who's the third best player in the world, blah, blah, blah, blah. Who is it? Well, it's Cam Young.

I mean, you've got to go down the world rankings. Winning the players, winning a signature event, I think is a, I mean, Fitz is on a hell of a run. But Zander is just poised, I think, to go on a run like he did in 2024 when he won those back-to-back majors. And I think he could have done everything about win. around the hoop right now with a lot of good finishes. It's Cam Young. The Cam, yeah, dude. Yeah.

Buddy. He's coming. I mean, what we saw at Durrell, I mean, winning by that margin, shooting 19 under par on that golf course. And playing the par five's forward. Yeah. Two under, I think, for the week. Yeah.

Two under for the week on the par five. And he won by six, five? Six. A bunch. Enough. I don't remember. It was just last week. We've done a lot since then.

I mean, he's the kind of guy, like, he's just not getting going. Scotty could stop playing golf for the rest of the year and still be world number one. Rory's up there too. But, like, Cam's one of the guys. He's got all the raw material to go beat those guys. I'd be a guy that can consistently beat those guys. I'm impressed with him with as much speed as he has, the ability to dial and hit the soft shots. His short game was unbelievable at Durrell to be able to have every shot in the bag.

And I think that when you think about the pause in his back swing, that allows him to sort of to control the tempo of the down swing. If he needs to take something off a little wedge, he can do it because of that pause and doesn't have the fast transition. You may see me pause out there today. Oh, you got a little pausing again? Is that going to be on purpose?

No, no. Well, I hit a couple shots last week, pausing. I saw how to go. The scorecard. My old coach used to make me do it all the time. Yeah, I hated that. And I flushed this one-eight iron, so just one. Flush the one-eight iron.

Flushed this one-eight iron. I was done. Going back to Cam Young real quick, the penalty on the second hole. I think that showed a lot too, because as a player, we all know, like, if that happens to us,

we're probably not making the 12-footer for par and doing what he did. It was resilient, but I mean, like, we, Sahith Tagala did it at the Tour Championship a couple years ago

when he took the club away and you couldn't see it on camera, but took a couple grains of sand. I applaud Pam Young for doing it, but it's also, it's the game of golf, but like you're saying, to have the fortitude

and not let that kind of derail you with a, you already lost a shot on the first to Scotty because he made Bernie to not let it get out of hand there because it could have been a big switcheroo there. I might still be there arguing. I forgot about it saw it the Gala. By the way, I think that cost him

$2 million. I think it did. Yeah. Got some. Certain rules, like when there's no advantage gained. There's no intent. There's no intent and there's no advantage gain. David Food and Dubai. The one shot penalty is a massive,

I mean, that's a huge deal. You actually made. I had to give you credit. You made a great point. I make a lot of them. You still remember him. We talked about the Pooge situation in Dubai, which cost him $300,000, some world ranking points that would do a lot of things for him.

But you're like, him accidentally touching the sand, which you had to zoom in on camera, is the same penalty as hitting it out of bounds. That just doesn't quite seem to add up. shoot par around it like you know if you're a two here we've got travel as well some courses don't travel as well not a lot of twos out here we've got a lot of good uh it's hard a lot of good 12s that play like twos is is taylor zars are probably the lot of sandbagger at quaholo he used to be he used to somebody took it over from him no and actually he used to have the vanity handicap and now it's more like you're a member out here for a few years you can't afford to have a vanity handicap because you're just going to get crushed every time you play so i think tz is probably a Is he like a five, six right now, four, five?

That's how many jobs he has, five or six. He's dangerous with that, though. He'll give you some. He can go, if he plays about 6,600 yards, he has the ability to go shoot in the 60s. So, I mean, he's, as a four or five handicap, it's lethal. Yeah, he can. Not many high. He's a great partner.

You can stink enough now. You can play the two birds. But I've played it three times. I've won it twice, and I love playing the member members next week, unfortunately. I mean, I'm happy to be at the PGA, but I won't be able to play that. But member, that was member guest is next weekend, member members in the fall, and that's where my brother.
