How many times were you fined on the PGA tour and how much total?
I don't know.
The exact total number of fines or the dollar amount.
I know my biggest one was, I think I got 20 twice.
Oh, yeah.
And then just a hand, probably like a couple handful of fives.
Yeah.
What was the 20s for?
Not listening to the fives.
That's a good answer.
All right, welcome back to another episode of subpar.
Slees, it's coming.
We're a couple weeks away from the WM Phoenix Open.
Waste Management Week, which means absolutely zero productivity for everyone involved.
Everyone's bouncing around doing their own thing, trying to not get
lost in the chaos. But before things really heat up, subpar and zone are going to be live at
Whiskey Row on Tuesday, February the 2nd from 5 p.m. to midnight. We've got special guests coming
through, WM. Open ticket giveaways. Basically, just a great excuse to come hang with us and zone
before inevitably we completely lose our voices. So big week coming up. And right after that on the second,
we got another event on Thursday, February the 5th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. We're going to be at the
Circle K at 4101 North Hayden.
road. It's just outside of Old Town, basically
where everyone ends up at some point anyway. You could
somersault to the bars from
there, which we might
do. Yeah, we're going to have an activation
set up there at the Circle K, but also
Tuesday, live show, down
at Whiskey Row and Old Town. It's going to be a lot of
fun. Got some new flavors being
dropped. We've got some special
guest coming through, including Nate,
Dr. Fax, who will be on site.
Garrett Blunt will be there as well, which
already tells you, this ain't just a golf clinic
sleaze, but it's going to be a hell of a time.
Hell of a good, hang.
So if you're in town for the waste management, Phoenix Open, need a quick break from the course,
or you just bounce around in old town or whatever.
Your next questionable decision should be this.
Swing by, come say hi, grab a photo, talk golf, live, bad shots, in and out, whatever you want.
Again, that's Tuesday night at Whiskey Row, February 2nd, and Thursday at Circle K on Hayden Road, February 5th.
See you there.
Shout out to our folks over at Zone, the best in the biz.
Absolutely.
And a huge shout out to our man, Chris Godder up.
How about it?
A friend of the program, picking up his third piece.
TGA tour win down at the Sony Open.
What a way to start a year.
Just moved to Florida.
He said he's always felt like he's a little rusty coming into the start of the year,
living in Oklahoma.
The weather's not the greatest.
Moves to Florida and bam.
He's one for one in 2026.
Made it look easy, man.
$1,000 par, one by two, just smashing it off the tee,
booping it from everywhere.
Impressive, man.
He's up to 17th in the world now.
Yeah, picking up where he left off last year after he made that late run,
Damner made his way onto the Ryder Cup team.
I think the thing about this is,
I just feel like Chris Carter up's kind of like getting comfortable out there
and you're starting to see the real Chris Goddrop,
the guy that came out of Oklahoma, won everything.
But that golf course, like, if you're going to go down the schedule,
it would be like which one probably doesn't suit what Chris Goddorup does the best,
that would be one of them.
Like, he was hitting driver in places that you see a lot of guys not hitting driver.
He just kind of overpowered it.
The shots he's hitting, you see the drive 10 foot apex with the drive.
I mean, it's like 180 plus mile an hour ball speed.
A lot of people do that, but they just don't do it on purpose.
And they don't do it at 180 plus either.
but dude, I was extremely impressive.
I mean, he does the two things that matter the most in golf.
He's got the elite speed.
He could absolutely smash it.
And the putter, when it gets going, it's really good.
I mean, he kind of won that yesterday with the putter.
They're on the back nine making some big putts and looks comfortable.
It kind of reminds me a little bit of DJ, honestly, just like an athletic golf game.
Yeah, the man's good, dude.
I mean, he won everything in college.
It was the best player in college.
And now he's starting to show it.
Three wins.
it's getting real nice for Chris Goddra.
Don't look for him to slow down anytime soon,
but congrats to him and Brady Stockton.
Yeah, how about it?
They teamed up last year, and they are rolling right now.
So very, very pumped for them.
I got to run something by you.
That's good.
Talk to me.
I believe I'm now a top 100 player in the world, Sleece.
Oh, welcome.
Yeah.
Took down John Rom the other day.
Oh, here we go.
Straight job.
Straight up.
Straight job.
But it's worth it.
Go ahead.
Clipped him by one, just in a tense battle.
out there.
How'd he handle it?
John didn't have his best that day.
I told him,
I was like,
you don't say.
It didn't really have it.
He only shot one under part at which for him.
It's not good at all.
But,
man,
it was so nice.
That's not.
You have that,
by the way,
that only lasts forever.
Yeah.
You've brought out seven years from now when he's got six majors.
But yeah,
but couldn't handle me at the rock.
Lucky I wasn't in any of those things.
Oh, man.
What a beautiful.
It was great.
Yeah,
it's a little rusty,
but he'll get it going.
He's got another few weeks before.
his season gets going, but
Ted did.
He'll piss him off enough to go win the first live event
by six.
Yeah, probably.
He goes, whatever.
I know you're going to talk about it.
Just do it.
Yeah, we are.
We are.
That's the beautiful.
When we get,
when we get just dusted by the,
by, yeah,
don't even bring it up.
But when you win,
we're going to spend 12 minutes on it.
Oh, absolutely.
It's just part of the game.
Yeah, sorry, John.
Yeah, better luck.
You know, tighten up a little bit.
Tighten up a little bit.
Speaking of intense matches,
we got to throw it out there.
But senior club championship.
Oh, this is beautiful.
going on at Whisparok, okay?
Just ended.
Congrats to our man, Tony Bags on winning.
But that's not what we're going to focus on here.
Right.
We're going to move past that.
There was a little situation, and there's a fellow by the name of Jim Strickland,
who you and I.
The legend.
Very good player.
Played at Arizona State with Phil.
We both have teamed up with him at the Pro Scratch, the twin fin here, and both
have been victorious with him.
He's a hell of a player.
Really good player.
Definitely the best senior player, I would say, at Whisper Rock.
Yeah, I mean, he's extremely good and very.
Barely over 50, still smash is a good player.
Yeah, and he's the number one seed in the senior club championship,
and he's going up against a man who during the stroke play portion fired a little 87.
Didn't have it.
Our man, Greg Myler, 87.
The only reason he got in is because two people no-carded,
or he wouldn't even have been in match play.
It was actually a perfect number.
So he is the 32nd seed, and he's going up against Jim Strickland.
Well, Slaez, you probably obviously know where this is going to go.
Myler took him down in one of the biggest upsets in golf history,
I would have to say.
It's like a 1 verse 16 in March Madness.
But worse.
Like a Duke, Princeton or something.
Yeah, possibly worse.
Say what he said, though, right after.
When the flag was going in.
I don't know.
What did the match end?
So it ended up...
It went to 18, I believe.
At one point, Myler was five up.
And obviously got a little nervous coming in.
But I'm just going to read this.
This is from our good friend, Jim Strickland.
He goes, at least he's going to be humble about it.
I didn't even get the pin in before he said,
quote, if it's okay with you, I'm going to lean into this one quite a bit.
That's such a great line.
If it's okay with you.
By the way, this guy has a house that you can see from the golf course.
It's basically his backyard's like a resume for his playing career.
Like he's got the whenever he finished like put a medalist and something at the rock.
He won the season long hump day and he put a camel on top of his roof to symbolize that.
Dude, it's all that.
The same way like Rom, you can bring that up for forever.
This will live for forever.
And shout out to our guy, Bryce Mulder,
who by the way, knows how to handle these things better than ever.
works with Jim Strickland.
The next morning when Jim showed up for work,
a big bouquet of flowers with a get well soon card.
It says, Jim, so sorry for your loss, love Greg Myler.
The friend is thinking about you.
Yeah, thinking about you.
So if you have a friend that ever just gets dusted
and something really embarrassing,
flowers in a get well soon card, good way to handle that.
Look, we all can get beat,
but there's just certain matches you just can't lose
or you're never going to hear the end about it.
And this was one of them.
So Strickie, I love you.
But sorry, man.
We love you to death.
But Myler ain't the one.
lose to me. No, no, definitely not. Well deserved, though. Oh, God, it's so funny. All right,
let's get into some golf picks this week. We were so close last week. We almost started so long.
I mean, I was like, here we go. So I had Siwu Kim to top 10. What a bounce back. I turn on
the TV on Thursdays four over through eight. I'm like, Siwu, what in the hell is going on?
Ends up coming all the way back, T-11. Heartbreaking stuff for me and my man, Siwu.
Yeah, for a minute there on Sunday, it looked like we're going to both cash. Jordan Speed, not his best.
ended up trying to grease it out.
He missed top 20 by one,
birdied 17 and 182.
So instead of 2 and 0, 0 and 2 to start the air.
So here we go.
Time to get right.
We're out to the American Express.
Scotty Sheffler has teeing it up for the first time in 2026.
Surprise, surprise.
He's a massive favorite.
Plus 300?
280?
Yeah.
All right.
Well, I'm actually going with a plus 280 bet this week out of the MX.
I'm going Sam Burns top 10 plus 280.
Okay.
I like that.
Plus 280 is nice.
What do you think it takes the top?
10 out there. Minus 22.
24. 2.
22. The top 10. What's got issued last year?
31? That was a Byron Nelson.
Excuse me. That was Byron Nelson. Correct. It'll be north of
25, though, that wins this week. Do you think?
Oh, yeah. I mean, the weather,
if it's anything like it is here, it's going to be perfect. It's going to be
dome golf. They're going to shoot the grass off those places.
Yep. 59 watch. Probably will come
and play at some point. All right, moving on
my week two. He was last week's betting favorite.
Finished top 20. Didn't have his best
up, but I feel like just kind of knocking the rust off
going in. One of the best iron players in the game.
Henley is plus money plus 110 to finish in the top 20 so give me rustle plus one 10 plus one 10 really laying
it all out there yeah I need to get on the board dude I like these top 20s all right yeah it's still plus
money we need to get on the board we just started we're in week two exactly dude you got to get hot to stay
hot all right all right well let's make some football picks even though some people I've learned recently
don't really like us talking about football but I don't care I like talking about football especially
We went to Denver Broncos advanced to the AFC championship with zero controversy.
Zero.
It was flawless victory.
And unfortunately, Bone Nex broke his ankle.
I still can't figure out where.
That was tough, man.
That sucks so bad.
Dude, it was like 12 minutes after the game.
We're all celebrating.
And then I find out they're like, here comes Peyton back.
He's like, oh, by the way, Bo Nex done.
Fractured a bone in his ankle.
I was like, I just watched him pick the last snap.
Yeah.
When did he do it?
I don't know.
That sucks, man.
Now we got Jared Stidham.
Hadn thrown a ball since 2023.
Last pass was a pick, by the way.
Stay hot.
So there we go.
We got the paths.
Yeah, got the pads coming to town.
Coach Brable.
Love that man.
They're good.
That's going to be a hell of a game.
It sucks.
You lost your quarterback.
But hey, it's been fun to watch.
I know you're having a good time with it right now,
even though you weren't completely dialed into the game.
Oh, is that a pickleball turn.
Somebody playing pickleball while their team's playing.
My mind was elsewhere.
I was trying to keep one eye on the screen.
It didn't work out.
Got dirt-napped in that big time.
Well, good luck this week.
I have a feeling you're probably going with the Broncos plus five.
Of course.
We're going to need a defensive score of special.
special teams or something.
Something weird is going to have to happen, I think.
Yeah.
With no bow.
I don't think, I don't think y'all can get it done.
I think the paths are too good as much as it pains me to say.
Guy had played multiple years, but hey, here's the NFC championship game against Patriots.
It's one of the best defenses there is.
Yeah.
Other side.
I mean, a little NFC West battle.
I mean, these teams know each other pretty well.
Rams, Seahawks.
Rams won a thriller against Chicago.
Oh, Seahawks just a dunk truck.
There was some great ball games.
Only one dusting.
Yeah.
Great ball games.
Seahawks, I'm taking Seahawks, where they minus two and a half.
If I had to pick a Super Bowl winner right now, gun to my ad, I'd take them.
They look extremely good.
Especially at home up there.
The Rams give them trouble, though.
About halfway through the season, I said, I think the Rams are the best team in football.
I think they're going to go to the Super Bowl.
So I can't change my mind now.
So we're on opposite sides.
Stick with it.
I'm still taking Denver, but obviously.
One of us is going to win.
It's changed a little bit.
Yeah.
All right.
So I'm taking the Hawks.
Let's see how good we are at this, because tonight is the national championship game.
What is the episode will come.
out tomorrow.
What do you expect?
Lay it out for me.
Indiana Hoosiers, they are just a wagon.
They are so freaking good.
Love their coach.
Love watching them play.
I think they're going to pound them.
I bet it the minute that the line came out for the biggest bet of the season, I think I'm
going to re-hit it again tonight.
When I go home, I just, dude, I know Miami's been good.
I know the whole world is on Indiana, which sucks there.
I saw some like 80% of the money is on Miami.
It's moved a little bit.
is on Indiana.
Some sharps, quote-unquote,
if it's supposedly come in and change it.
That's why the line went from eight and a half to seven and a half.
But, dude, until I see somebody hang around with them,
going with them, I think they win by double digits.
And it's just an all-time turnaround in the history of,
forget college football, sports.
One of the shittiest programs in the history of football,
college football.
So we're both taking the Hoosiers.
Yeah, I'm on that signetti way.
After they pound them, you know, Carson Beck can still go to class tomorrow.
Right.
And he's only been, dude, I haven't had enough time to,
year six city hadn't been to class in two years he was on that 2020
Georgia game college sports student what happened to student athlete no that's
long gone bro long gone I graduated two years ago just still playing football here though
long gone we got to revamp the whole thing all right well let's see how we're going to do
let's get to our guests this week uh this guy's a beauty man I love him so much
played so many practice rounds with this guy over the years hell of a player two-time
winner on tour Matt every joins us on subpar all right you are all right you are all
very familiar with our guest today is a two-time PGA tour winner, four-time All-American and Ben Hogan
Award winner at the University of Florida, the host of the drop on the golf channel analyst everywhere,
Matthew King, Every.
Did you know that?
I did not know that until today.
That's all time.
Really?
You know that?
I've known you for a long time.
I was looking, doing some research and it popped up Matthew King every.
I go, are you fucking getting me?
I was like, how did I never know this?
How sick are your parents?
Yeah, it was my mom's maiden name, actually.
That's how I got it.
Oh, that makes sense.
Did you ever consider just going by King?
Just lucked out.
No, that would be a lot.
That would be sweet.
By the way, you left.
My talent does not match up with that name.
Doesn't matter.
That's what makes it better.
You left one thing off in that bio.
Where we got?
Self-proclaimed, best-looking man on tour.
Hey, I like that.
Who said that?
You.
Self-proclaimed.
Steve Marino said to ask you about being.
God, that sounds like a big stretch.
I'm nowhere near.
Have you ever seen Adam Scott?
I mean, he's good.
He would never say something like that.
He might be saying that.
He's good.
You're in the running.
Ludwig now, he's a problem.
I see him every day now.
Well, whenever I go practice, he's on the back of the range.
That's another beautiful man.
Yeah, he's like a little statue.
If only his golf swing was a little better.
I know, right.
God.
So, wait, you're still going out and practicing some?
I mean, just like, yeah, like, I mean, I would use that term lightly practice.
I go to the back, park my car there, and just hit for maybe 30 minutes.
Sometimes I'll bring my boy up there and we'll chip and pot and ergo fish back there.
But, I mean, I'm a member.
I might as well go use it.
Absolutely.
How old's your boy?
13.
Is he into it?
13-year-old and 11-year-old daughter.
We're like face first in travel sports right now.
It's insane.
But it's fun, like kind of living through them now, you know?
I got a couple of little athletes running around.
That's awesome.
You miss the grind of being out on tour?
Oh, I do.
Really?
It's a big time.
Yeah, I do.
I don't miss grinding.
But I miss, like this week, I was working Hawaii from the studio.
Just seeing the aerials and stuff like that.
Like, fuck, man.
I mean, yeah, I miss it.
It was not getting the year started off there.
Competing, just feeling those juices.
Like, we watched Harmon make seven bogeys in a row last week.
And I'm sitting there thinking, man, I would love to be able to make seven in a row right now.
That's beautiful.
Is that the thing you missed, though?
Like, a lot of people are totally content when they leave.
But then a lot of people just miss competing.
I miss traveling with my boys, yeah.
Yeah, the locker room type stuff.
Do you have any of give it another go or?
No.
No.
Just, dude, the type, well, I mean, it doesn't hurt.
You know, it's, it's not hard for me to answer that when I go, like,
watch Ludwig hit for five minutes.
And it's like, dude, I just don't have, I don't have that anymore.
I got, my stuff is still.
good but there's a lot of really bad in there now the tour's getting smaller and smaller it's
getting younger and younger and i like what i'm doing right now too man yeah you seem like you're
having a lot of fun with it yeah yeah we got the drop right now or i have the drop right now uh monday
nights seven o'clock on the golf channel and it's been fun and then tour live you know you know
it's a little different than your like network gig how long are you guys out there like two or three hours
Three, depending on the tournament, sometimes four.
It's stressful.
It's exhausting.
I bet it is.
Got to get up by noon.
We're running like 10 hour shifts over there and tour live and it is tough to not be redundant.
So I'm trying to have fun with that as well, like as much fun as I can because it's, you know, it's a different way to watch golf on that kind of feed.
Absolutely.
I love it cracks me up every time because when I get out there, you know, we show up during the summer, it's we're on it from three to six.
And I show up to that group or whatever at 2.30.
McGuinness who's on his second 18 holes of the day, just dying.
And he's like, I hate you right now.
You just woke up, didn't you?
And I'm like, yep.
I don't give you that vibe, though, do I?
No, you're fantastic.
No, those PJ tour live days are monster days.
But you've done like on course, analyst, studio, podcast, you got the drop.
What do you like the most?
Which work do you like?
I really like doing the drop.
I think it's, like, I really enjoy the producer.
with Jason McAllum.
He came from Van Pelt Show,
or for ESPN forever.
And I've just learned a ton from him,
like kind of the ins and outs of all this.
Even like the stuff that he does,
you know, stuff that I'll never do,
but like directing,
producing, stuff like that.
Like, you just,
you just kind of learn from being around it.
And he's also one of the,
uh,
how do I say this?
one of the first people where I felt like, man, this guy, like, wants to come to work every day and get better.
And that to me is contagious.
I really like being around it.
And it's fun for me, too, because both of these are in my backyard here in Jacksonville.
Like, I don't have to travel to go do, you know, film the drop.
I don't have to travel to go work for a tour lab.
It's right here.
So it's a pretty killer gig.
And, yeah, man, I'm just trying to learn and get better.
Did you ever think, you know, when you were out there playing, I mean, your two-time winner, you had a couple of run-ins with the tour occasionally here and there?
I know, it's bizarre.
Did you ever think you'd be going to work at BGA tour headquarters every day?
It's so funny.
Like, I see some of the guys that, you know, used to discipline me in there, like Andy Levinson and stuff, and we just grin at each other.
But it's, you know what, it's, I don't, I'm totally fine with how everything should.
shook out. I really, really like being there. And I'm also pumped for the future. What's the goal?
On there with me? Yeah. Just kind of turn it into a second career. I mean, the goal is probably to be
out there with you one day. But just turn it into a second career. I like what I'm doing and
I'm happy and, you know, like yet the career stuff matters. But right now, like a lot of my time is
is a dad too right now.
Like, whether it's picking one of the kids up from school,
taking them to practice, you know, you name it.
I don't know.
I feel pretty good about where I'm at.
That's great.
With the drop and, like, hosting a show in studio is so different than, like,
being an analyst or being on the course.
Like, you're used to talking about golf.
You know what you're talking about, but, like, hosting a show,
like, hey, welcome in.
Like, that's a whole different animal.
Did you have any, like, prep for that?
Is there any training?
or they just throw you out there and be like, learn as you go?
There was a little bit, maybe a week.
But you just learn through, just like anything else, Drew,
like you just learn through reps.
And I am nowhere near perfect.
Like I watch my, I'll watch the show every week
and pick up on things I do that I don't like.
But yeah, there's a ton of moving parts.
You know, I mentioned my producer, Jason.
he's helped me a ton.
I like doing it.
It's fun every week because it's something new every week.
Like we just wrapped this morning and we're already working on next week's show.
Usually I bring it, try to, we preview the next week, maybe touch on last week a little,
but I try to bring on one of my buddies would love for them to be in studio because it, you know,
it comes off a little better when it's in person.
But if not, over a call, have them on.
And then we've been doing some segments called every Tuesday.
We tried them out last fall and they did pretty well.
Same thing.
Like I go on the road, hang with one of my buddies on Tuesday out there,
kind of show what they do.
If there's a special interest they have, we'll film that.
So they'll probably be some more of that this year.
But I really, really like doing the drop.
I don't even know what you freaking ask me, Drew.
I saw you on that every Tuesday with Hub.
Tubbs.
Doing what was what's that called?
Pilates.
Pilates.
Yeah.
What a grind.
Oh, my God.
I mean, I go to this F-45 here in town just to keep me honest, like once a day or four or five times a week.
But, and I feel like strength-wise, I'm pretty good right now.
And then that Pilates just kicked the shit out of me.
Oh, yeah.
Wobbling all over the place.
And it's, you know, you find where you're, you're weak at.
I know where I'm weak at, but it just exposes you big time.
There's some, I mean, a lot of the NFL guys do it.
And it's a tons of dudes to do it.
You're like, out there's shaking, trying to ask a question.
So hubs.
Yeah.
Well, I got, I know I have arthritis in my left hip.
And like any time I try to put any kind of load in there or anything, it's just, it's
crumbling.
I look like a, you know, a battered animal or something.
It's just terrible.
Who's your favorite person you've got the chance to interview so far?
Well, I mean, that's, I don't know, favorite.
My favorite one I've done was probably Bo, hostler.
He dropped that ayahuasca bomb on me.
Yeah.
I had no idea that he was going to do that.
It was kind of out of nowhere.
And also, I think, you know, Bo's maybe image.
Bo's a, how do I say this?
I think Bo is misread a little.
little bit. Like, and I think we're starting to see the, maybe the real side of them right now.
He's interesting. Yeah, he's interesting. My favorite ones I've done, probably, probably that one
and Camilo were my two favorite. That's awesome. You know, looking back, I mean, at your career,
because you were a monster coming out of Florida. I mean, you, what, four-time All-American?
I mean, you were, you were the guy, Walker Cup. Hogan. Everything. You want it all. When you look back
at your career now. I mean, you won two times on the PJ tour. One of the biggest tournaments there is.
Are you happy with your career? Yes. Look, I had a lot of fun and everyone's different out there.
Everybody does it different. If I was a little more disciplined with my practice,
maybe it would have been different, but that's also not fair for me to say to, it's just not.
I would, like, I cherish my two victories at Bay Hill. And then the other thing,
that's really important to me is being in the Hall of Fame at the University of Florida.
Like that's something like every year that gets cooler and cooler for me.
So I'm,
I had a great career, man.
That's awesome.
Yeah.
Yeah,
there was some really bagged off at the end of it.
But,
uh,
yeah,
it was,
and I had a blast.
Yeah,
but getting that,
I mean,
looking at that picture,
you with Mr.
Palmer.
I mean,
they can never take that away.
That's so cool.
Oh, man.
Like,
I mean,
it'll be coming up here.
soon but just going in the merchandise shop and seeing like tiger woods tiger woods mad every
mad every that's like that is yeah that is like like for my boy that's like that's like that's cool
of shit you know like and it's and for me it's it's awesome too like i am i've emotional right now
yeah that's cool man that's awesome that's really cool you should be very proud as you should be yeah
there's like there's a lot of good golf in that career what was it about
Bay Hill, though. Like that place, like you mentioned, Tiger, Tiger, Tiger,
not every, matter. Why there?
I don't know, man, because I had a few times, you know, I'd played there a few times
before I won there. So the first time, I just think it was like, it was a golf course
that was kind of built for my game at the time. And then also momentum, I was playing really good
golf. Like I had a ton of chances, not, I mean, not a ton, but I had, I felt like I had a lot of
looks to win before I won, if that makes sense, like in the years leading up to that.
Maybe it was 12 and 13.
And then even on like the West Coast and 14, I felt like I had some good looks.
And it just worked out.
And then the next year it had to be just all mental because I was playing terrible
going into there.
And just a couple of things clicked on the range.
I obviously had confidence on that place.
and, you know, the rest happened.
Yeah, I always thought, like, the harder the golf course,
probably the better for you.
I mean, really good ball striker.
Putter could go a little hot and cold.
Kind of like your attitude.
Like most people.
Yeah.
Like what?
Kind of like your attitude.
Get a little hot, a little cold, you know.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, for sure.
Yeah, putter, I don't know.
I don't, I don't like complaining about putting.
I still don't, but it's a big part of the game.
And, you know, we watched, last week I actually had Hadeki a couple rounds.
And the way that guy plays golf, man, it would drive me effin insane.
I mean, he just does his stuff doesn't leave the stick ever.
And he's just constantly missing eight footers for Bertie.
It feels like there was some of that for me, for sure.
But yeah, I would say harder, the better.
I'm trying to think where else I had any, like Texas, I played good there.
I had the second at the Byron.
I had a second in San Antonio.
San Antonio's hard.
Yeah.
That was hard.
Dude,
and that was before they like kind of softened it.
Yeah.
It used to be rocks like immediately off the fairway there.
And then the greens had these slopes that were just on steroids.
They softened those two.
Going back to Bay Hill real quick.
I want to ask because I've heard this story, but I've never been confirmed.
Did a guy from the gallery on the 18th hole really yell at,
you what the putt was going to do yeah he did that was the second year that i won i had i hit this
ball it was all that wasn't that was like the feeling i had in my body when the i like picked up the
ball out of the window you know when you look up and you see it and you know like what it's going to do
already like i knew i'd pulled it off right away so i'm just watching this ball in the air it's like
all over the pen and it goes like 15 feet past the hole and you know i grew up watching that
tournament i've i know that green you know and i've and i've never seen anyone have a put from there
i'm like what the heck like what does this thing do and so we were looking at it and you know i used
to only call derrick in on the hard ones because why would you call them in on one you know what it's
doing like it's just stupid so to be fair like to be fair to all caddies i think
when they have a misread.
Usually they're getting called in on the hard ones in general.
But we were kind of going over this putt for a while.
And then it got really quiet.
And some guy in the background kind of coughed like straight putt.
All right.
And I had it going left a little.
And I was like, so I'm thinking, all right, I'll just shift it a little bit inside right.
And that thing hung in there forever, dude.
And it was pretty straight.
I mean, I don't think it moved.
It was like it was like left center the whole way and it just hung and hung and hung and hung and hung and then it went in.
So if he didn't cough out straight putt, would you play it?
You would have had a different read and maybe miss it.
I might have pulled it and they'd go on it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That is hilarious.
It's like Slees listen to the valet guys on who to bet each week.
Yeah.
I love the Jags.
I love the Jags.
I'm like, yeah, me too.
Fuck.
You like the Jags?
Makes a lot of sense.
How much do you like?
Oh, yeah.
Lost my voice at the Jags game.
Oh, yeah, tough one.
When you think about those two wins, Matt, if you had to pick one moment, one shot,
it might be what you just described, but like that stands out, which one, what is it?
First one, the second win, definitely the iron and 18.
And, well, and the putt, too, because it was like a putt of length.
So just, like, having time to watch it go in the hole and then just out-of-body experience,
like, just numb for, I don't remember, you know, you don't remember anything.
I can, I remember seeing myself, like, kind of buckle over my knees a little.
I was just trying to catch myself.
Like, when Sam, did you guys have Sam Ryder on the idea about his whole and one?
When he said he couldn't control his bottom lip when it went in.
Really?
Like, yeah, like, that's the kind of rush I got through my body.
So that, that stands out.
And then the first year, I got so lucky on number nine.
I pulled the, I hit like this flat pull hook and anything left.
of the bunker is out of bounds basically there's a cart path and my ball rolled on the path for like
70 yards and then veered off to the right instead of the left and ended up inbound and I had like
80 yards off a hard pan pretty easy wet shot made birdie and that that was like a three-shot
swing eventually you know if it's obese so that would be it yeah I always knew you're lucky yeah
that's sick how that works out and it did a put on 18 like with the history
of the putts being hold there to win.
The Tigers done.
The hoop,
who was it,
Games that hooped it from the fairway?
Yeah.
And that whole,
like,
there's so many good finishes
on that 18th.
And Matt Every.
Yeah.
Shout out to the guy
that coughed the reed.
Shout out.
Hey,
also,
it is fun to,
like,
root for guys to win now
that tournament.
Like,
whenever the big names
get up there,
I'm like,
yeah,
I want that guy on the trophy.
Get that bum out there.
He doesn't deserve it.
They already had me.
Go, Scotty, go Scotty.
You did actually, you did play a tournament this past year, though.
The New Mexico Open.
Goff.
Jickey.
Yes.
Tell me about it.
It was in truth or consequences, Mexico.
Let me tell you how we got involved with this.
So my buddies and I started a clothing line like five years ago, five years ago called Live
Forever Golf.
And I'm like day to day, I'm pretty far removed from it now.
but it's still the three of us are the core of it.
And we, the guys that, they bought a bunch of land out there, I think, from in town here in
Jacksonville, they're, they're just business guys, I guess.
But they, the land they bought had this golf course.
They brought the New Mexico open there.
We, like, sponsored the tournament with the clothing.
And then they gave us some spots in the tournament.
So myself and we had a few guys that we clothe that aren't like a couple of corn fairy guys maybe.
I can't remember the names.
But I know Will Cox was there with me that week.
Anyways, if you guys want to play next year, I got you.
It is a freaking blast.
Fun golf course.
When is it?
I chopped.
It's probably in September.
I've played it before.
It's fun.
It's a fun little event.
It is.
Well, this course is killer.
It's a bunch of elevation change.
It's in the middle of nowhere.
It's a nice way for me to scratch my competitive itch,
maybe once or twice a year.
This is one of them.
Because I'm not, you know, my prep for that is like hitting balls two days before
and then going.
So your old caddy, Derek Mason, he said to ask you about it.
And I said, how did he do?
And he goes, well, he asked me how the course was.
I told him it was pretty wide open.
then he proceeded to hit every other t-shot the shit in one put every hole to make the cut.
I did.
Dude,
I hit it.
Well,
you know how those places get in the desert when it might be wide open,
but I didn't look wide open.
Those get me.
Like,
I'm coming from someone that has battled foul balls.
But that was more just not playing golf anymore.
And,
you know,
I'm 42.
My back's not the same.
I'm just,
honestly,
it sucks because I,
you go out there and there's this person that you know was inside you that could do some of this stuff.
And then I try to do it.
Like, bro, I still aim for a two or three yard fade on every shot and I pull it five yards every single effing time.
And it's like, what am I doing?
I'm not a fader anymore.
Like, just stuff like that.
But yeah, Derek, it was great to see Derek.
Did he say that?
Did he say it was nice to see me at least?
I don't think we got to that part.
conversation but okay well i had a great time seeing him you want to talk about it you want to talk about
fun me and him that was that was a nice run he door yes y'all were hilarious together i mean i don't know
if you know derrick he is one of the funniest humans and he actually lives in el paso now so actually
last year during christmas we teed it up did you what's your connection with el paso my wife's from
there okay cool yeah they live on el paso country club there and so i'm actually him and uh my father
are they hang out all the time and uh we Derek by the way I hadn't seen him in years
you know he always loves his action on the golf course it went just as way as it normally
does I beat his ass so bad fleece him oh always he still owes me 500 from the practice around
in Tampa that was hilarious did he tell you um that he got suspended from that club for like six
months no what did he do what just just chirping at the member guest apparently about some
handicaps.
Oh,
some question.
We need to get your circular
involved in this?
Yeah.
Yeah.
That is hilarious.
So we're playing practice
around in Tampa,
in its Brooke,
and we're on the 13th hole,
the part three,
over water.
And I'm in this left bunker.
I think both of us were in the bunker.
And we're having a game.
Imagine we both hit kind of just
whatever,
so-so bunker shots.
And he's like,
you guys are terrible.
I was like,
get in here,
fella.
Let's see.
And he goes,
500.
I can get it closer.
And we were like,
all right,
deal.
He skull,
fuck this thing so far
in the middle of water.
It was so great.
He still hadn't paid me, by the way.
I had so many rated R stories of that guy that...
Give us one you can tell.
Bring you to tears.
I can't...
Not a bad one, but just like,
because he wasn't scared to just say some random stuff to you on the course.
Y'all had to have some, like, good ones.
They were like, something that just made you laugh.
Oh, we would have, like, all-out, like, brother fights out there.
I mean, just fall on.
I just one of the things I remember about him the most
I remember when we went to like the first couple years
when we went to Malaysia oh yeah
and for that tournament it was a CIMB or something like that
so that it was all like all you heard was how hot it was over there
so and Derek's not a specimen so he he's out there
and we're on this par three we're like four holes in he looks like he's about to
fucking die
right and I'm a fast walker so I'm usually almost unless I'm talking to him I'm always ahead of him so
I'd hit my ball past the pin on this part three and he also smoked cigarettes so I hit my ball past
this pin on a part three and I'm going to market and just out of habit like all I would always ask my
guy what do you got here right when he got to the ball just because I'm I'm ready to go and like I just
need a front number and a pen. So it was just habit to say something. So I marked my ball,
I flip it to him. He's got his back to my line. Like he hasn't looked at anything. He can barely
open his eyes. He's got a cigarette out of his mouth. I'm like, what do you got here? And I flip
the ball to him. And he goes, left edge. And then he just keeps walking. He couldn't even get a
breath out. I might not have done that justice, but it was the funniest thing I've ever seen
in my life. I just kept walking. That's what we're.
We just had, we just had Kip Henley on.
That's where he had to tap out.
Yeah, he, like, tapped out and was like, dude, I can't.
And he gave it to some random.
He's like, who's the lowest handicap out of y'all?
And they're like, this guy's like, oh, dude, you're in.
You're in for the rest of the way.
It's the most ridiculously hot place.
Yeah.
Ernie Ells would hang another shirt up at the turn, and he would change at the turn
because it was just so gross.
Stads used to tell me how he'd switch it up, too.
But he's like, I'd put the new one on and four minutes later.
It's already cooked, too.
It's also home of where John Peterson, happy Gilmorton.
Oh, yeah.
off the teos right i remember being in the locker room for that because we're but he was chopping
obviously that week um but we're playing ping pong in there before like duffner was in there because
it was too hot to warm up no him and we were so far back it was like kind of for what
i think he told all of us he was going to do that when he when he went and did it yeah because
people went right there's like a lake right yeah right and over the water and then he shot like
like five under, I think.
Yeah.
No shit.
What a beauty.
Yeah, that's balls.
That's balls.
Who,
because you mentioned your fast walker.
You're also one of the fastest players ever out there.
Who were some other guys that,
like, played at your pace or who,
anybody that was faster than you?
Bill Haas was probably faster.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That might be it, dude.
Not many.
Who else?
Does it drive you crazy?
Because we always say, like, it's,
it's harder for a fast player to slow down than a,
slow player to speed up.
Does it just like, especially to do a TV now, like, I'll be walking out there and I'm like, good God, what are we doing?
Yeah.
It's got to drive you crazy.
When I was playing, it didn't drive me, it didn't really drive me crazy because you get so used to it.
I mean, it's not a new problem.
I guess what would drive me crazy, I'd get more upset at the officials for not doing anything.
Like, if you're going to let those guys do it, then fuck.
I mean, they're going to do it, you know?
Um, so that's where my, when I would get upset, yes, uh, TV. Yeah, it's really easy to tell
who the slow ones are up there. It's, it's, it's, it's, some of them are my buddies, but it's, it's,
it's, it's, there's a few. We're trimming field sizes now. So yeah, to me, to me, to me,
trimming these field sizes, though, it, it's going to, it's going to be easier to identify the slow
players because now they don't have a chance to catch back up to a group that's,
bottled up on a reachable par five or a drivable par four because there's 144 people in the field
and there's nowhere to go.
I think cutting the field size is such a cop out for them trying to say.
Yeah, I do.
I just think they're like, oh, yeah, less players will play faster.
I'm like, no, they still play slow as shit.
Well, that's the thing.
Like, what's what is next if this doesn't work?
Yeah.
Like, if this doesn't work, I think that somehow they're just going to have to individualize these
penalties. Yeah. Yeah. You just got to start to stop, stop worrying about feelings. They didn't,
I could have sworn they were going to start putting up in the locker room. The, the times of the
guys. Yeah, I don't know. Is that violations? They used to. They used to put up there and then guys
got sensitive about it. They're like, this is embarrassing. I'm like, well, you know, it's embarrassing.
It's how slow you play. Yeah, but until they do something, they don't care of 70 guys, 125, 150. Like,
Like, there's going to be guys taking forever to play.
And until somebody gets a penalty that matters.
Isn't that crazy, too, Cole?
You just said that they got sensitive, so that's why they don't do it.
Like, I remember in high school, they'd put the, if you made the team or not on the gym door and you're a 15-year-old kid.
Like, I mean, come on.
This is, these are grown men we're talking about.
You should be able to deal with your feelings.
Yeah, and it's completely controllable, too.
It's not like it's something out of your controls.
It's like, oh, you don't like being up there and being made fun.
This is an opinion.
This is fact.
dude play faster like yeah it's it's simple but until they hit somebody who was the last penalty they
gave for slow play it's like they always pick a guy way down to try to make an example but then you
see guys near the top and they'd never even come close to to dang it yeah i believe the last one
was at the zurich actually a team yeah oh really ryan campbell right oh there you go mcgail carbayo maybe
that's right wow what a pull that was cool gal it ain't just a hat rack mad guy this is a lot
of good shit going on up here.
What a poll.
You don't have to answer this if you don't want to.
But do that.
But oh, we'd like you to.
How many times were you fined on the PGA tour and how much total?
I don't, I don't know.
The, like, exact total, the total number of fines or the dollar amount.
I know my biggest one was, I think I got 20 twice.
Oof.
Yeah.
Okay.
And then just a hand, probably like a couple handful of fives.
Yeah.
You know.
What were, what was the 20s for?
Uh, not listening to the, to the fives.
That's a good answer.
What's a club throw?
Does that get one or no?
Yeah, that did get one.
That was, I think that was one of the big ones.
Would that at Bay Hill?
I feel like there's levels of club throw.
Dude, that was at Trinity Forest on, I finished tied for a second that week.
It was on the whole, the par five in the back that has like a pot bunker in the middle of the fairway.
And then it goes downhill after.
And I, I was playing good that day.
I think it was like seven under going into that hole.
Might have been eight.
And I hit this drive.
I think it's good.
And if it clears the bunker, I have six iron into a par five.
It's like another birdie.
And I get up there.
It's just soldered underneath the lip, like absolutely nothing, which I didn't know how to handle
at the time.
So I hacked this thing out and it like 10 yards.
It's the most I could get out of it and just blacked out for a second.
And just that was that one.
And then most of my others were just like, those volunteers, man.
They got big mouths out there sometimes.
Oh, they ratting on you?
A lot of smiths.
And Stephen Cox was pretty much in charge of all mine.
That is official.
That is hilarious.
So, I mean, I see him obviously every week out there now.
And he was, I always tell him like, I mean, we all know when you're coming.
You ain't getting, if it's even borderline, no chance.
I mean, and I wear him out all the time.
He used to, I swear he used to put camo on and hiding the trees, wait for me and do something wrong.
Just binoculars.
I'm not kidding.
There'd be times where.
like something wouldn't go like if I missed a put or I pulled an iron shot and I'd look and I'd
see Stephen up on the hill and he's watching me like 20 seconds after this ball has already left the face
and I would I would like yell at him and be like you you want me to throw it like are you waiting
for me to do this because I will do it like I'm crazy enough to do this right now that is awesome
just taking you out is that still in you like if you go play golf right now with your
friends and he hit shitty shots like does it are you over that way over it um i bet you the last
club i threw was the the picture of me doing it at the byron such a good picture
great that was totally whatever that fine was it was worth it for the picture well it's just it doesn't
i don't the other thing about getting mad is now what do i have to get mad about like there's
nothing to get yeah no you're practicing and grinding you can't expect to be good yeah
When you don't practice, it's like this is, I should be more surprised if it is good than disappointed if it's bad.
All right.
So even though you got several fines throughout your career and everything, I believe you told me you occasionally would still play golf with Jay Monaghan back home.
Yeah.
I used to a member at my course here.
All the, actually, Roelap is not.
Roelap doesn't play golf.
Did you know that?
I don't think he does.
Not at all.
But Jay, Tim and Dean Beeman.
are all right here in town.
Dean, I see more,
Dean, I see more than all those guys.
That guy's an animal.
He's still charging it.
Love that.
He holds court on the back of the range.
Yeah, Jay.
I haven't seen Jay in a while,
but used to play the same group of guys,
kind of lunch group.
Did he ever just tell you you're an idiot?
Like, what are you doing?
No, he likes me.
That's great.
That's weird.
It's like, yeah, being friends with your teacher
after you went through high school
and we're just a mess up, you know what I mean?
and then you can become friends later.
You're like, oh, yeah, sorry about the shit.
Hey, Jay, you just find me 20 grand.
Mine buying me lunch today.
Yeah, you can afford it.
You're good.
You're good for it.
All right, should we get to the E9 here?
Yeah, let's go E9.
I think this first one we got to ask him just because we're on the topic.
This is just nine bullshit questions, basically.
So, because you are self-proclaimed best-looking man on tour.
I did not say, dude, there's no.
No, just talk to Marino.
I think you just own that.
Just take that.
That's fine.
Say prove me.
Fruit me wrong.
It's not even close to true.
Marino would never tell a lie.
I trust him with everything.
He'd never do that too.
All right.
Movie made about the life of Matt Every.
Who's playing you?
Oh,
there we go.
Throwback.
Who?
No,
is that a throwback question?
Yeah.
I just think it's to be a good answer.
This is going to be great.
Oh, man.
Can we give back to that one?
Do you want to let that, Stu?
We're going to have to run auditions.
We're going to have Leo, Matt Dave.
They're all going to come through.
See, who could do it.
Gary Woodland picked Denzel for him.
Yeah, he's not even close to cool enough.
What a dumb dumb.
All right, since we've been on like the freak out and the club throwing and stuff, I'll give you one.
Not you.
This doesn't include you, but give me the best one that you witnessed out there.
This is kind of like, I was going to say Mount Rushmore of club throwers.
Obviously, you're on there.
You get to pick three other.
Yeah, you can play some.
I don't know.
I don't feel like I saw a lot out there.
Rory had a nice one at Bay Hill.
Yeah.
That was a drowl.
Drowrowe.
You're right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I actually was going to say that one.
I thought that was good.
You know, the one-handed release is key in club throwing if you're going to do it.
And you need to have a strong arm because if you if you don't know what you're doing,
you could hurt somebody.
Like a lot of people hang on to it too long.
And so like when Rory launched that thing in the water,
nobody's life was at risk there.
Fair.
Kind of okay with that.
Yeah, kind of okay with that.
I would say that one, worries.
That was a good one.
Good.
They broke down his form on the throat too.
They did like a conica manolta.
They're like, look, it was great.
Mm-hmm.
Well, if you're going for distance too, one arm.
One arm for sure.
I like the two hand over the top,
Tomahawk.
It's much safer play.
Yeah.
I'm trying to think if I can remember any good ones here.
Good throws?
Yeah.
Or just freak out?
Yeah, I'm trying to remember if there was anything.
It's always so fun when it's not you.
Ogilvy had once, I think it was at Muirfield where he's like hit a shitty chip,
went over to his staffer slammed it in the bag and it like popped,
it hit the bottom and like popped up and hit him.
That's good.
Yeah, I feel like Kevin Stiler had a few.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, he had a dangerous one too.
If you could like mic somebody up and listen to them, talk to themselves for an entire round,
Kevin Stadler would be a 10 out of 10.
That's something doing tour live.
I wish we could do get guys their own feed on there.
Like just have Bobby McIntyre the whole day, his mic ripped open.
And just just listen to these guys talk to themselves.
I mean, it is, it is entertaining as fuck.
Yeah.
It is.
So one of my first TV things I did featured holes at the PGA championship at Bethpage.
And so it's like it was, I think it was 16, 17 and 18 or 15, 16, 17, it doesn't matter.
But come Sunday, we go on air like right when the first person gets there.
all the guys that are in last on Sunday,
they've just been having their ass whip.
And here comes Pat Perez, down 16,
and it's blowing 25,
and he hits this four iron,
and it balloons up in the wind.
He just throws his four iron straight up there and goes,
this place is fucking sweet.
And it's just clear as day out there.
I was like,
this is the best TV.
It's so good.
Speaking of a club throw,
I'd like to take you back to Puerto Rico,
when on the eighth hole,
I believe you deposited one into the jungle
and a volunteer.
Fetched it for you.
What it got.
Yeah.
That was a hybrid.
Yeah.
That was belonging in the jungle.
So bad.
Did he bring it to you like three or four holes later?
I don't remember.
That was a rough time in my life.
Hey, Matt, you dropped this.
Yeah.
Oh, big, buddy.
Stephen, okay, getting back to Stephen Cox, he would do that, dude.
He would, one year at congressional, I beat the crap out of my putter.
in the parking lot and then threw it in the trees this is in the parking lot like bottom
into the parking lot nobody was watching this i thought and we the next week at greenbriar he
puts that put he went to the woods and got it out and put it in my locker and said no littering
at congressional that's funny that's good i like that oh that's beautiful it's good to have friends
all right what's the next one okay uh give me this one we'll stay on your looks
here for a minute, Maddie. As a man like yourself,
blessed with a great head of hair.
What are your thoughts on these transplant
guys that they're getting out,
leveling the playing field for fellows like yourself?
You're right. You're right.
Bullshit.
You know.
Kind of like Osempic.
Yeah, dude. There's pills and shots for everything.
Yeah. You do everything, though.
I'm all right with it. I'm totally
fine with it. You do have some nice hair, Matt.
I'll give you that. Nice lettuce.
In fact, if I was
one of those guys, I probably would do
the same thing.
I'm not doing it.
I definitely would do the same thing.
But you'd look cold.
Everyone, that's part of your look.
Like, you are, that's what you are.
Like, you would look weird.
I don't know if that's a compliment, but thank you.
If you just came out like there.
Come back from Turkey with a man,
you wouldn't be the same with it.
It'd be weird.
I agree.
Yeah.
If you had hair, wouldn't be fair.
There you go.
Bald and beautiful.
There you go.
You like that.
All right.
Have you ever once hit a ball out of bounds on purpose in a tournament?
This is the first time you've ever asked this question on here.
To you?
Then you are, yes.
What can you tell us about it?
It seems like it won't help your score.
I'm going to look so bad after this.
No, we love you.
Okay, so it was with Derek.
We were in a little tift.
Little tift.
It was Memorial.
I was going to miss the cut.
Finishing on the front.
Six.
doubled six to like make it to where even if I went eagle birdie birdie I was still missing
all right it was like the math wasn't mapping more done yeah well six green and 17 it's a long
ways back to 17 you can forecaddy on that hole Derek he knows I hated when he forecadded
and he hands me I make double and he hands me the driver
walking off six green and we're like we fought like brothers i mean this this was a two-way
relationship so like this wasn't caddy abuse here this was just me get giving it to him so we're
walking back and i'm playing with brian steward and i think i think i was playing with coke crack
might have been the other guy and i got that piece of crap i was like you know four caddy and up there
and one of and stewards guy goes you won't hit it out of bounds on purpose and I was like yeah well which which way do you want it right or left so we went right and I hit it right but the bet was he he had to come back and hand me the ball he couldn't like toss it so he's coming and it's hot it was so hot this day too and he's coming up the hill and I'm like not making eye contact with him the whole way and then he hands me the ball and they all started laughing and he was there was
you know, the rest is history.
He claims that's the only time he forecasted ever, which I do not believe.
I believe it.
Really?
They probably didn't after that.
It's so easy working for me.
I hardly ever practice.
I mean, relatively speaking out there, I was on the blow end of practicers.
And I needed a front number and a pen number.
Like, that was all he had to do.
Like, we had his, our relationship fun was.
a big a big factor in it and and just like it really was like a brother a brotherly relationship
he was he's a beauty i love that guy but you won't hit it out of bounds on purpose right right
the right what you need a shot all right all right here's kind of a real one you got to experience
a football national championship and a basketball national championship while you're at florida
give me the most fun game you ever attended for either oh man um um uh
first year the Gators won against Ohio State in the desert out there were you guys uh Chris Leak was
a quarterback Tebow was a freshman we played Ohio State they ran the kickback Tedgin Jr and then he broke
his leg celebrating you remember that and uh that was just an all-timer for me I was out there with three
of my buddies went to Vegas before drove over just just a amazing experience and then basketball I got to go
last year. I was working San Antonio in the Final Four was there just same time. And that was
freaking awesome. I went with a couple guys, Eric and Jeremy that work would tour live and we went
out there. Killer setting, San Antonio for Final Four, too, with the Riverwalk right there. You can kind
of spill out after and have a time. But that was, for me, it was the coolest basketball game.
Yeah. Speaking of Killer, did you watch Swamp Kings?
Swamp King's.
I'm 30 for 30.
Oh, yeah, I've seen that.
Yeah.
I didn't think it was that great.
It was all right.
I thought we could have gone a little deeper.
Yeah.
There's some unturned stones.
Run a tight ship down there in Gainesville.
Y'all did.
That time there, I mean, there was some wild people there.
Ryan Lockty was there at the same time.
Oh, yeah.
There's a lot going on.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, that was a time.
We'll save that for another day.
All right.
Last one for me.
All right, we're going back to your caddy, Derek.
And he swears this is true.
But he told me when y'all won the second time at Bay Hill,
he gave you a yardage on 18 that was in the rocks
because he knew you were so pumped up.
And if you hit it in the back bunker, you were dead.
Do you believe him?
No, I don't believe that.
I may, because I would have, there's no way my eyes would have let that pass the test of,
he said it would have been six or seven yards off.
He said it was seven.
He lied to you by seven yards, and he said he's never been more nervous when that ball was in the air
because he lied to and he knew you were so pumped up.
And he said you obviously hit it to the back edge of the green there.
I also didn't.
I was like that week was probably the best I've ever hit it.
So like I didn't miss the middle of the, I feel like I didn't know a week, the middle of the face.
I could see him cheating like two or three yards.
Seven is like seven.
If I ever found that out and I hit it in the water, I would like shank him in the side.
What club was it that you hit in?
Eight.
Yeah, you know seven yards with an eight iron.
Yeah.
It was like 100, it might have been 167 yards or 100, somewhere around there.
168.
Seven, yeah, if you souped that, that'd be game over.
Game over.
Problems.
Derrick.
Problems.
Got any more?
But you did it.
You got any more?
No, I was going to ask about, my last one was, are you the best player to ever only make it through two episodes on the big break?
Gotta be.
What a tough scene.
Gotta be.
Hogan Award winner, four-time All-American, just getting dirtnapped by 48-year-olds.
Who beat you?
Who knocked you out?
Yeah, what did you losing?
I don't remember.
I lost.
I just remember hitting it to the right a lot.
I'll walk you through that.
So I get a call from this guy from the golf channel.
Steve Berkowski, right?
And he's like, hey, you want to be on the big break?
I had no status.
I think I had just missed Q school.
So I'm like, yeah, I'll do it.
So I go out there when Mesquite Nevada, Nitties was out there with me.
And then there was a bunch of other other dudes.
And it was, they were nice players.
Like there were, there might have been like a couple chops, but for the most part,
everyone there was pretty good.
So we're staying at this like casino in Mesquite Nevada.
I don't know which one it was.
but the host of the show, his name was Rick Schwartz,
and he only hosted it that season, I think.
But we would stay up, like, all night,
betting the don't pass line together on the craps table
and just having a blast.
I mean, like, winning, but also, like, high-fiving under the table,
seven out, you know, when everyone else lose it.
Like, it was just, it was a fun time.
But I remember doing that, and then you're up at seven,
It's 110 degrees there.
I'm, you know, you're dehydrated from drinking.
And that, yeah, and elevation.
Mainly drinking.
And you're not warm, you know, they don't let you warm up.
It was one shot at a time.
And you know every shot you hit is going to be on camera.
So it's like, I remember the day I went out.
I was so nervous.
I mean, my legs were like uncontrollably shaking.
Like, I had no idea where the bottom was.
It was embarrassing, honestly.
It was.
And the worst part was I had to stay there for another two weeks until they finished taping that.
Like, I ended up becoming buddies with a few of the guys because of that.
But we, you know, you're hanging out at the pool every day, getting a massage.
I know that sounds great.
But at the time, I was like, can we just, can we move on?
Why'd you have to stay?
Because if you go home, they know that you're out.
They know you didn't win.
Yeah.
Oh.
I didn't even think of that.
That would be shit.
They're running it back this year, right?
Oh, yeah, dude.
You might have to make a little guest appearance.
Yeah, we just had Kim Hintley on last week.
Talk about it.
You should do it.
Yeah.
Get on the big break?
Yeah.
Yes.
I don't want a big break anymore.
Are they doing like, what's going on with this Grass League stuff?
Oh, yeah, dude.
You want to play on a team?
You want to be a musky?
I want to get, uh, I mean, I want to,
I want to, I don't know what I want to do yet.
I mean, maybe a team in Pantavidra.
Dude, I'm telling you, I played in December.
Yeah.
It is so much fun.
It is, it's wild.
You got to try it.
It's up here alley.
It looks fun.
Yeah.
It's cool.
It's up your alley.
Stay tuned on that.
And no, we'll keep you abreast.
You don't have to drive or ever.
It's perfect.
That's nice, too.
I would so much rather go play a par three course than any 18-hole course.
I'd rather go play a par three in just average shape than TPC sawgrass first off tomorrow morning.
I like that.
Then you are built for the grass.
You're going to love this league, dude.
You get to drink the whole time.
It's perfect.
We'll be in touch about that.
It's perfect.
Yeah.
Stay tuned.
Did you think of who's going to play you in a movie?
Yeah, Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Oh, wow.
Okay.
That's not the one I had.
I didn't think that was.
Who did you think?
He's a fucking tin.
I thought you'd pick somebody like, I don't know, like Matt Damon or something.
He actually kind of looked like him.
Phillips Seymour often you don't necessarily look like, but he could pull it off.
Great actor.
I like that.
That's good.
All right, Matt.
You're the best, man.
We appreciate you.
Congrats on all the success.
Keep killing it, dude.
Yeah, dude.
All right.
I'll see you on the road.
All right.
That was the club hurling.
Matt Evry.
Love that guy, dude.
He is an absolute beauty.
And I'm pumped for him.
He seems like he's really happy and in a really good place right now in this,
new career he's got going. Yeah, and he's got a lot
going on. I mean, he does, like, studio work. He's got
the drop. It does on-course stuff.
It's hard when you leave golf and not to find
like that next thing, and you can just kind of hang around
for a while, but he feels like, you know, he's
landed in a spot where he belongs,
is doing a great job and always
fun catching up with him, reliving some of
the old town. I feel like we get, like,
too much, like, attention given to
like his club throwing and stuff like that, from not to us,
but like, in general.
It's like, you kind of forget, like, dude, he was in that
Florida, like he was all world.
All world.
I forgot about the big break until I went back and I was like, oh yeah, he was on like one of
the early seasons.
I love it.
I don't know if you know him, but Stephen Cox is the rule is official.
I mean, I cannot wait to send him this clip of him.
He goes, I swear Stephen Cox was with Camo hiding out in the trees just waiting on me to do
something.
Just taking him out, do something, do something.
Freak out.
That's so good.
Love you, Matt.
You're the man.
Wish you all the best, my man.
All right.
That's going to do it for us.
Can't wait to see everybody.
Phoenix Open Week.
Tuesday down at Whiskey Row.
Thursday, Circle K, for the little activation.
but that's going to do it for us.
We'll talk to you on next week's subpar.
