Starting point is 00:00:09 All right, everyone, welcome back to Subpar with Colt Nost and Drew Stultz. This is going to be a special one here. I mean, what a weekend. Our man, Gary Woodland, after everything he's been through, brain surgery, hasn't won in almost seven years. Gets the dub down in Houston, the Texas Children's Houston Open, just an unbelievable performance. Right around three weeks since he came out and told the world everything he's been dealing with with PTSD, opened up to Rex Hogger there, the Golf Channel, just basically getting it all off his chest, saying he's tired of living a lie.
Starting point is 00:00:41 Once everybody to know actually what's going on in his life and how much of a struggle it's been. And damned if he didn't go down there and just put the ass whipping to everybody. Made everything he looked at. Ended up winning by four shots on a golf course that is perfect for Gary Woodland, smashing it everywhere out there
Starting point is 00:00:58 and making it from everywhere. So cool to see, man. I'll be honest. The man has made me cry a lot over the last several years. I'm a little tired of that, but I could not be happier for Gary Woodland. like I was trying to go back and think I was like looking at Twitter and all this stuff golf Twitter as you know could be kind of a divisive space a lot of hate a lot of negativity I was like I can't
Starting point is 00:01:17 remember a win that was as popular amongst every single person in golf Twitter in the world of sports really I mean there's people outside of golf talking about it too then this Gary would learn win I was literally trying to think of it and I was going back I was like maybe 2018 tiger ironically which we'll get to maybe that maybe the 2019 masters a zinger had a emotional one you know in two thousand after the cancer diagnosed. I was like, dude, this is like maybe the most popular winner or just win in general on the PJ tour in forever. And to come on the heels of the PTSD thing that he talked about, you got to think that played a huge role and just like lightning his load. He still had, I thought it was crazy. Like when he came out, I was like, I still
Starting point is 00:01:57 have issues like on Friday. Someone got too close to me. And I was like struggling the whole back nine, got into scoring and like had a meltdown and had to gather himself before he came back out and like worked on it. So like it's still an ongoing thing. It's always going to be. And to, like, be leading a golf tournament, thousands of people around at all. It's got to be, like, the worst environment possible to have PTSD. I don't know what it's like. I know some friends who have it, but I think unless you have it, you don't really know what he's going through.
Starting point is 00:02:21 But to not only just win, dude, just beat the shit out of everybody. A seven-lead. I mean, the thing was, if it had been anyone but Gary, I would have been off that golf tournament watching something else. But I wanted to watch Gary do it. And, man, it wasn't a joke. It wasn't a fluke either rolled the shit out of it, like you said. How about the old man hitting 196 ball speed? eat at 41 without some weird diet or workout routine, man, it's, it's everything everybody's
Starting point is 00:02:43 saying it is. Like, one of the good guys, chalk went up for the good guys. And honestly, like, pretty kind of refreshing almost, I think, for everyone after the news that we got Friday afternoon about Tiger. Yeah. And for Gary, I mean, just the team he has around him, his wife Gabby, his kids, his caddy Butchie, Randy Smith, who he, you know, raved about all week long and how much great work they've done.
Starting point is 00:03:04 He's the longest guy and the fastest guy on the PGA tour at the moment. I'm at 41 years old. You know, we had Randy Smith on our radio show a couple weeks ago, and we were talking about this. And just how Randy's like, he's doing everything so well as far as just the physical parts of the golf game. Like his games as good as it's ever been. It's just this other issue, which happens to be a massive issue that he has to deal with.
Starting point is 00:03:27 And he said, if he can just get his mind somewhat right, like, he's going to play really well. And I don't know if it was all just opening it up and letting the world know everything he's going through and how much support he's gotten from that. or if there's something in the meds, I don't know. I know he said he felt like a thousand pound weight got lifted off his shoulders once he threw it all out there and was honest about everything. And now, I mean, you saw the game.
Starting point is 00:03:50 I mean, it was phenomenal. He did everything so well. He looked so comfortable. I thought coming up 18, the crowd being behind him was fantastic. I mean, Wu Lee. You're raising up to getting the crowd going. His caddy even giving him a round of applause. Like, you could see how much it meant.
Starting point is 00:04:04 And then to have Gabby there, it was cool, man. How often do you see your playing competitors? I mean, the thing was, it was, you know, sign sealed delivered at that point. But, like, pumping up the crowd for your competitor. Like, have you ever seen that? I mean, like, I don't know what those other guys were thinking going. And I've never felt like fewer people are rooting for them. I have your wife and your family out there after that.
Starting point is 00:04:23 The whole place was Gary Woodland. And I truly think, like, coming out and talking about it, just lifted that weight. I mean, the players, it was the week he did it. There was a lot of eyeballs on him that week. But then he goes and plays well at the Valspar. Yeah. Goes to a place. I think it's also great time.
Starting point is 00:04:37 I mean, going to a place. I mean, he was runner up here last year. You can't build a golf course that suits Gary Woodland better than this, but that doesn't mean he's going to go do it. And he went out there and did it. He looked amazing putting the ball. I mean, he obviously hit it great, but he putted it so good. Gained eight strokes.
Starting point is 00:04:52 Eight, is that what it was? I mean, dude, the whole thing's clicking, and like, and how about it? He's up to 51 in the world. We'll be playing the Masters next week. It's, like I said, it was one of the more, maybe the most popular, well-received, everybody's rooting for the same guy. Everybody feels good type of win that I can remember on the PJ tour.
Starting point is 00:05:11 And it's not just in golf. I mean, this is a massive moment in sports. I think you saw the amount of people on social media that made comments about it. I mean, from Scott Van Pelt to Patrick Mahomes, President Donald Trump, you know, tweeted something this morning about it. It's just it's such a popular victory. I mean, and I don't really give a shit. Some people will say the field wasn't that great. I don't care.
Starting point is 00:05:33 This is a dude that had his brain operated on. and has talked about not even being able to play golf and like everything he's gone through and to go out there and win, I don't care if there was four people in the field. He beat them all and he beat him handedly. And he's back, man. This is, it was an awesome moment.
Starting point is 00:05:48 I'm so pumped for him to be teed up at the Masters here in just a week from now. But if you weren't happy, if you weren't emotional watching that one, you're not human. It was cool. I mean, was it two and a half years ago? He's writing letters to his wife and his kids
Starting point is 00:06:01 about just in case this doesn't go well type stuff, which that full swing episode, if you haven't watched it, that one was a tearjerker too. But he gave awesome interviews as usual. I thought he held it together really well. And it was just like to have his family there, all that, man. It's truly, it's cliche at this point, but I chalk one up for the good guys, man. That was a cool one. And it's just, yeah, I thought it was ironic the same time, you know, Tiger Woods was going through what he's going through.
Starting point is 00:06:30 It's like, here's the guy that's kind of come out. It's been battling some stuff too and shows. like if you're dealing with something, you know, keep going. Like you can come out the other side. It was just, it was refreshing for everybody, I think. So happy for you, my man. Obviously, love to have you on anytime soon. I know this week he's decompressing, no media, which, by the way, is very well deserved.
Starting point is 00:06:51 I know how much that took a toll on him getting through that week. The interviews he did afterwards, and this week he just wants to chill and rest up. And it's got a major championship to play next week. Last thing I'll say about this, because we've said it 100 different times on here, if Randy Smith's phone ain't ringing off the fucking hook right now, it's like, all right, you got Scottie. He's pretty good, but you could just argue like Scottie's this weird one-off talent, freak talent.
Starting point is 00:07:12 You got him. Then you get Gary back off of a brain surgery, dealing with the stuff he's dealing, and he goes out and does that in a fairly short order, all things considered, like Randy, tip of the cap to you, like everybody's knowing you've been great for a while, but if I'm my guy out there right now and I'm kind of a no man's land,
Starting point is 00:07:28 and he ain't your first call, man, I don't know what you're doing. I don't know what he's got to do. It's every time, whether it's Scottie, Gary, whoever it is. I mean, my phone blows up. They're like, how is there not a line outside of Royal Oaks Country Club right now? Maybe he doesn't want them. I don't know. Maybe he says no, but if his phone's not just jumping off the hook, then that's, I find that odd.
Starting point is 00:07:47 Yeah, but congrats to the whole team, Gary, family, everything. It was awesome. And then obviously, a much different end of the spectrum, Tiger Woods, getting in the car wreck this past Friday. You know how positive I've been about everything as far as I think he's going to play the Masters this year. I'm pumped to see how he is physically, how he seemed mentally at the Genesis Invitational when he came in the booth with us at CBS. And then this happens. It sucks, man.
Starting point is 00:08:15 I mean, obviously the man has some demons. I feel bad for all the people that have to go through this stuff. It was obviously very irresponsible to get behind the wheel of a car in that situation. You know, I think everyone is just like in shock when their phone goes off and they see a notification. from ESPN or whoever it is saying Tiger Woods involved in car crash. You're like, Jesus, are you again? I thought it was like April fools. I was like, what are we doing?
Starting point is 00:08:36 Again, I've gotten, I've seen this text before. Like, it's just all the things that everybody's saying. It's just, especially with Gary doing what he's doing, it's like, it's so hard for us. Like, we've talked about it. Like, everyone our age or even close to our age, like Tiger Woods was everything. Like posters on the wall. The reason you got into golf, made golf cool. Goes on, you can't convince me otherwise.
Starting point is 00:08:54 That's the best golf you ever play the game. Jack Nichols got the best resume. Tiger was the best to ever play. play the game of golf, in my opinion. And I don't know that anyone will even come close to having the impact on the game, like globally that Tigers had. So we put him up here on this like Superman pedestal where it's like, dude, he's everything.
Starting point is 00:09:10 It was our childhood hero, stuff like that. That's Tiger Woods, the golfer. And it gets hard to like, you know, bifurcate, I guess, with like Tiger Woods the human because those are two totally different things. And Tiger Woods is a human right now. Somebody needs to get a hold of him. Somebody who trusts or cares about him or something. I know he feeds a lot of mouths.
Starting point is 00:09:27 He's his own economy. I got it. But dude, we're way beyond, like, making a comeback and teeing up at Augusta. Like, I don't know if it's the outside pressure, pressure he puts on himself because he's the greatest to ever do it to get back. And that's why he's, you know, putting himself through what he's, you know, giving himself whatever it takes to make himself feel better like he can get through the day. But at some point, it's like, it ain't worth it.
Starting point is 00:09:48 I thought Brandl said, well, and I don't agree with everything Brandl ever says, but he's like, what's left legacy-wise? Like, what can you do at this point? I don't think he's winning major championships on the people. DJ tour. He might could go win the U.S. senior. That would be something. But otherwise, like, dude, your golf legacy is set in stone. Like, you're the guy. If trying to come back just to play is jeopardizing, like, not only your life, but other people's too and your health, you're safe. You got kids, you know, like somebody, like, we got to fix this. Somebody got to get a hold of him. Because this is,
Starting point is 00:10:21 if this isn't a, if LA wasn't a wake-up call, what is? Yeah, I mean, just luckily, no one was hurt. I mean, not only him, but I mean, the fact that there could have been somebody else on that road. Just a walk in their dog or kid. But, yeah, it sucks, man. He made a terrible decision. I have no idea what his everyday life looks like, what kind of pain he's in. But, I mean, you got to get it under control. I mean, he's a 50-year-old man.
Starting point is 00:10:44 Everyone makes mistakes, but this has happened too many times. And, you know, we wish him the best. I think, like, what Brando said, like, golf aside, like, let's get your health. your family, everything. Like, people are worried about you, man, and hopefully he can turn things around. I think golf's the furthest thing from my mind right now. I was pumped to hopefully see him tee it up at Augusta.
Starting point is 00:11:08 Now it's like, I don't even know if he'll be there Tuesday at the Champions Dinner. I don't know anything. I'd be shocked at you sound, wouldn't you? Which is just so unfortunate because of, like you said, his legacy, the history he has at Augusta National, the fact that he might not be at that Champions Dinner. I mean, I know how much it means to him.
Starting point is 00:11:24 And, I mean, he talked about it. with Jim Nance. I know I'll be there Tuesday. I can't wait. We have a very special dinner. And I'd honestly be a little surprise now if he shows up. I'd be shocked if he went up there. I think he'll probably go away for a while.
Starting point is 00:11:38 I don't think we'll hear from him. Maybe you'll pop up. That'd be a huge shock to me. But I think he tucks away and tries to get his life under control, honestly. Because, I mean, the only good news of all this is, like, all the bad stuff that's happened, like, no one's died. And he's the only one that's ever been hurt. and never involved like another person getting in.
Starting point is 00:11:56 And that's honestly like beyond lucky. Like one of these days, if this continues down this reading, you get a text and it's going to say, or a message is going to say something else. And like just, I don't know. That was a tough one. And that's why I think what made Gary's even so much more like more cool after he did what he did.
Starting point is 00:12:12 It's like, yeah, he's been battling some stuff too, completely different, but dark, you know. Absolutely. But anyway, so let's move on here. We did have some other fun golf this week. Whisper Rock member guest. I know you're playing, I believe, the second one. No, I'm out on both, actually.
Starting point is 00:12:27 I couldn't do it. So I had my brother in town last week. Okay. We had a little member guest situation. Let's the man. Brendan Morrow came out again. We battled. Didn't get the job done.
Starting point is 00:12:38 Needed to win our last match against my arch nemesis, Steve White, the man who took down myself and Peter Thomas Sulo by himself. That's still an impressive. Well, come to find out he's got a brother, Andy, that's rather fucking good at golf too. and we battled hard. Me and Morrow ended up tying them in the last match. They won our flight and actually ended up winning the whole damn thing. Won the shootout, made a deuce on the first shootout hole,
Starting point is 00:13:02 then played Tyler Leon and Ashley Newsom in the finals. And the White Brothers were the champions, but it was an awesome time. Shout out to everyone at Wisp Brock Golf Course was phenomenal. It blew like 25 on Saturday again. It played hard as hell. And after several nights of, you know, doing what you do at member games. And being with Brendan Morrow.
Starting point is 00:13:21 and being with Brendan Morrow. I will tell you this, though. Brennan was trying to leave on Saturday night, which happened to be the last day of tournament. He's losing his edge. He does. He plays in the pro tour, which, you know, John Smoltz,
Starting point is 00:13:32 who we just had on, Commissioner, he was heading to Biloxi on Sunday to get ready for the event. I was like, you gotta stay Saturday night. Saturday night's the best night. The tournament's over.
Starting point is 00:13:41 Like, I'm going home. And I was like, all right, fine. We get to 18 of the upper. And we're playing the black T's, so it's 490 yards order, 485 yards. And I said, if I make birdie here, you're staying the night.
Starting point is 00:13:52 And he goes, deal. Back in the win, I hit driver five iron to two feet. Driver five piece over the water? Yeah. Go ahead and call up Southwest.com there. Yeah. Morrow, change that flight. And by the way, being the respectful man that he is, he did.
Starting point is 00:14:06 Well, better way to get ready for approach her than just getting smashed another night with your boys and then getting on a plane. You know what I mean? That's how we get ready for everything. Yeah. Was it how you want to take some shots at his game? Anything? When I do a little partner bashing, that's always fun, post member guests. Five matches.
Starting point is 00:14:20 he played nice three, very bad and two. Okay. The last match against the White brothers, he didn't have it. And I played phenomenal. I shot 400 in that wind to get a tie for us out of it. It was a very tough match, but Marl was a good player.
Starting point is 00:14:36 Oh, yeah. And you have to tell him that he'll kill you because he's a rather big dude. Tell him that every time. He sucks ass. Like, dude, you're great. This is a bad day-to-day. Watch that right off. But it was an awesome week, man.
Starting point is 00:14:47 We played Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday. I've been playing a lot of golf and I'm tired. That's a lot. I had three last week and I was like, okay, shut her down for a while. But I will tell you, I am very happy with my equipment right now, Sleece. Shout out to Callow. The new quantum irons are so fast, so forgiving, so consistent. They are phenomenal.
Starting point is 00:15:06 You will love them. They're some of the best irons they've ever made. You want to hit more greens, hit it closer to the pen. Go get you a set of the Callaway Quantum Irons. They are now available at your favorite local retailer or go to CallawayGolf.com. Like I said, they are fast. They are forgiveness. They are pure.
Starting point is 00:15:20 Check out the Callaway. Quantum irons. You're almost too long. I'm getting freaking long. Do you think you're teetering on too long with the driver and the irons now? I'm not kidding. You have to like rein it in. There's not enough real estate for you.
Starting point is 00:15:32 You know, no one likes to give me credit about my game. But they will tell you. No one. No one. In the sentence there. And I'm hitting it in places that it's just, it's nuts for me right now. It's so fun. Good news.
Starting point is 00:15:44 Club Championship this week, too. Yes. You get to dial that thing in. Oh, by the way, you're tuned. My first ever club championship at Whisper Rock. Welcome to the fucking jungle. To the qualifying match. Yeah, you get seated up.
Starting point is 00:15:57 Yeah. First round, you can get like a, you know, older guy or something, maybe a little bit, sneaks in. And then after that, it's all your boys the whole time. And it, nobody's rude for you. And by the way, the statute of limitations is on a loss forever. Mm-hmm. Bring shit up from 12 years ago.
Starting point is 00:16:12 You lose 100 in a row. Like, remember when I clown your ass, three and two, back in 01. As long as Scott Harrington's not on the cover. the magazine after this year, I'll be happy. He will be in the field. Yeah, he's the big one seat. The number one is in the field. I think we got some pros.
Starting point is 00:16:25 We're rounding up a little bit of a crew. I think we should have a good field. Good field. I'm looking forward to it. You're tuned up and ready. It is a lot of golf. I'm actually playing tomorrow, too. And then Wednesday, I got to take a day off.
Starting point is 00:16:36 I got to let this beautiful body rest a little bit. I got to get back in the swing. I just came back from a little four-day love fest. You know what I mean? My 10-year anniversary, you know what I mean? The flame burns bright after all this time. Let me walk you through it. She's a lucky lady.
Starting point is 00:16:50 Thursday night. No, she's a lucky lady. She is so blessed. God damn. But you better get ready. You know, I saw up there? Ten cup. You saw Kevin Costner?
Starting point is 00:17:00 Yeah. You went here actually a funny story. I forgot about this to just now. There's this place he goes. Apparently he's there all the time. Certain bar. Doesn't need to say the name or whatever. Yeah, just go ahead and shout out the name, so everybody's standing out.
Starting point is 00:17:11 I don't want to do that. So I guess he's there all the time. We were in there beforehand, like, having some drinks and stuff. We were going to dinner at a different place, but just grabbing a few. as you do. And he walks in. And he goes, sits at his table
Starting point is 00:17:21 and everything's good. No one bothers him all this type of shit. My phone rings. I need to go take a phone call. So I step outside for a minute. There's this dude outside the bar door.
Starting point is 00:17:28 Like literally a step out. Boots, cowboy boots, Wranglers, black long sleeve button up shirt and the Yellowstone vest from the show. Why Yellowstone Dutton Ranch
Starting point is 00:17:42 and a cowboy hat. And I'm looking, I'm like, are we filming? Like, what are we doing? Are we filming the show? show here right now?
Starting point is 00:17:49 Like, why is this guy all dressed up? Like, somebody's like, take my call and I'm kind of, and he's not talking and he's not with Kevin Costner or anything. He's just standing out there. Take my call. I walk back in. I'm like, there's a fucking dude out here. Just dress like it's Halloween.
Starting point is 00:18:01 Is he just like hanging out here for Costner? And then one of the like employees, I see him like talking. And they're like, I don't know if this guy shows up a lot, just hoping to see him or whatever, but they go out there and they're like, hey, bud, keep your shit moving. I think he just dressed up like Kevin Costner to try to meet Kevin Costner. I'll find you. And you come to. It's like, dude.
Starting point is 00:18:19 And by the way, 58, I bet. 60? Not a kid. Kid, I'd kind of respect. I'd love that. Yeah, go say hi. She just called him Kevin, see if he'd turn around. I was just like, dude, it was like Rip.
Starting point is 00:18:29 He's dressed like Rip. Yeah, it was wild. Anyways, we had a hell of a good time. Had a few drinks. All right. Well, congratulations to you, Marissa, on 10 years. But get your game right. I need to.
Starting point is 00:18:40 You better start hitting a good off the tea because it's playing firm and fast out there right now, and the desert is not friendly. It's bouncy. finally we're there because it's been hot so we'll be ready you know what i do have though it's a little new weapon to my arsenal my three wood got a new piece in it you know i've struggled with three wood when you swing it like ludwig you can't be hitting driver all the time it just goes too far ludwig or young ernie um i told joe scoffering this about this call in about ludwig and he goes are you are you kidding me yeah he goes i've seen sleigh it doesn't look like ludic when they posted the video i was like
Starting point is 00:19:13 i hate this get it off here i hate my golf slig and then people are like young ludic i'm like this is perfect but he's like i'm like this is perfect but Anyways, I got a new three wood. I figured out my other shaft. Previously, it was a little too heavy. I softened it up a little bit. Went down away. Went to the blue board.
Starting point is 00:19:25 63 of the Diamana Mitsubishi. If you haven't tried them, try them. Got them in all my woods. They're the best thing smoking right now. And when you get fit for the right Diamana, you find the center of the face more often. You get more distance, control, tighter dispersion. That's what I do.
Starting point is 00:19:39 Go to Love Your Drivermore.com. Find the right Diamana for you. Swing like a little baby Lubbitt. Yeah. You know? I can't wait to see it. God, I hope we get matched up in the final. of the club champion.
Starting point is 00:19:49 It should be clean. I got a couple days to get right. We might have to have Mark come out and film it. That should pay per view that thing. Tell you what no one needs to really pay attention to right now is our golf picks, at least mine. You had a nice run going. God damn, I had it. Stephen Yeager.
Starting point is 00:20:02 Yager won over the final round. Yeah. Tony Fienow. Yeah, you were there for a little bit and then it's not anymore. And I continue to suck at these. But at some point, I'm going to get hot. And so you better get ready to ride with me. And we're on to the Valero, Texas Open.
Starting point is 00:20:16 You are TPC San Antonio. Mathematically, you're going to hit one of these soon. It's hard. I got off my O for 14-Schneid and basketball. It's going to happen for you. Can one of you sports books make a top 100 bet? That'd be great. Just to finish the turn.
Starting point is 00:20:29 Yeah. Because otherwise, I can't win anything else. But this week, I have a good feeling about this. This golf course, you got to hit it really straight off the tee. You got to make putts. This guy very easily could have won the golf tournament last year. I believe he birdied the last seven in regulation or something. He went nuts on the back nine.
Starting point is 00:20:46 to get into the playoff with Akshay Batia before he laid the sod over a wedge. But we're past that now, and he's due for a win on the PJ Tour. But I don't need him to win. I just need a top 20 out of Denny McCarthy at plus 170. There you go. There you go. Give me a little wiggle room, not to win to top 20. Please, Denny.
Starting point is 00:21:02 I need to. How many tournaments have been there have been on the BJ Tour of the seat? I think 12. I don't know who's counting. Over 12. A couple more, you hit that over 14. But these aren't 50-50 bets. That's plus 175.
Starting point is 00:21:12 Oh, these are hard to hit. These are hard to hit. All right. Yeager let me down a little bit. It's okay. I forgive you. Moving on, I'm going with another top 20, but give me Daniel Burger, top 20 plus 185. Obviously, super close at Bay Hill.
Starting point is 00:21:28 Akshay took that thing from him, playing great golf. Wasn't great at the players. Windy, firm, bouncy, fast, grainy places. Love Daniel Burger. Give me him into top 20. Okay. Yeah. A little tune up before Augusta.
Starting point is 00:21:41 Also, final four is set. We got Michigan. Huh? The Duke game. You don't want to talk about it? No, I didn't know. It was fine. I've like slowed down on the gambling and basketball after the losing, but just watching
Starting point is 00:21:54 Duke, watching the Duke tears and then immediately texting Adam Long on the group text after just making sure his TV didn't go out. I don't know if you saw this. They just completed the greatest comeback in the history of mankind. You lost. It was a beautiful thing for all non-duke alums. Yeah, and Final Four set heading to Indy. Michigan looks rather nice.
Starting point is 00:22:13 Yukon, as you mentioned, what a comeback. Illinois. We had Jay Billis on our serious XM show. I know he's an expert, so he should know these things. We're supposed to be experts to golf where he aren't always. He told us on our serious XM show,
Starting point is 00:22:25 he goes, before the tournament started, he goes, Illinois could win this whole thing. Yeah, that's a hell of a call. Yeah. Hell of a good call. I kind of wish Arizona and Michigan was for the whole ship. I know.
Starting point is 00:22:33 That's going to be a monstrous battle. Duke was, in theory, going to come off that other side. But Yukon's a different beast in March, dude. They're a joke. Yeah, Dan Hurley. If they make the final four, they win, too, by the way.
Starting point is 00:22:44 I don't think they've ever not won the title when they made the final four or some weird stat like that. Yukon? You con. Never made the final four and not one or something. Yeah, they win. Yeah, they're good at the basketball, men's and women's. But yeah, it's going to be awesome, man. Congrats to all four teams.
Starting point is 00:22:58 Also, congrats to Roeback on making the best gear in the game because it's the best fit, best feel. It's that simple. I got the lightweight super looper shorts on. They're the most comfortable shorts I think I've ever worn. I got the Highlands hoodie on as well. Also good. Very relaxing. By the way, perfect in Scottsdale when it's 100.
Starting point is 00:23:14 and five out. Don't even sweat too much. I love it. They're great for golf, great for going out to dinner, whatever you want. Their performance polos, Q-Zips, and so much more are still undefeated. Best fitting gear in the game. And don't forget, the new Azalea collection drops March 9th. You're going to want to check that out. So use the code sub on rowback.com for a generous 20% off your first order. That's spelled R-H-O-B-C-K.com. That's 20% off all polos, hoodies, shorts, and more with code sub. Make sure to check out before summer, and they will have you ready for whatever travels or
Starting point is 00:23:44 activities you have. Let's get to our guest this week, Slease. This is a fun one here. He's coming back, but this time for a much different reason because he is an Olympic gold medalist now, was a part of Team USA, men's hockey with one of the greatest games we've ever seen when they beat Canada, two to one, two to one or three to two? Over time. I don't know, it was an overtime. It's an overtime win by one. They got the gold. But Clayton Keller joins us on subpar. Okay, we got a golf sicko joining us today. also happens to be extremely good at hockey. He's a team captain for the Utah Mammah,
Starting point is 00:24:18 the four-time NHL All-Star, and member of the gold medal-winning U.S. Olympic hockey team, Clayton Keller returns. How are we doing, CK? Pretty good. Thanks for having me, boys. It's been a while. It has been a while.
Starting point is 00:24:31 We miss you around here in Scottsdale. By the way, my wallet misses you more than anything. I knew it. I knew it first thing. I don't know. I don't have to tell the story right now, do it? Seriously, just send me a package every month with a couple grand in it. It'll just be like you're here.
Starting point is 00:24:48 All right, all right. Sounds good. Maybe the off season, we'll do that again. You ever, I mean, you guys have played a lot to go. You ever clip Colt? Just straight up, no strokes or anything? Yeah. Oh, you did?
Starting point is 00:24:58 It was one time, that's my claim to fame, straight up. Cool. I beat Tiger once. What's your point? You're in the same sport, though. Jazz was there, too. He could back up. I do think you shot like 68 and I shot 69.
Starting point is 00:25:13 It was devastating. Yeah, yeah, that was a good day. Good golfer, good golfer, good fantasy golfer also. I mean, how many leagues are you in? A couple. I mean, I think it's like something that like our team actually has one that we do every week. So it's like the fantasy where you pick six players and like I've just gotten really invested in it. And I enjoy like doing that and then kind of like watching it and like cheering for the guys that you pick.
Starting point is 00:25:41 So like every week I'm pretty dialed in on like. the guys that I like and, you know, I'm watching it closely, I guess. Do you watch more hockey or golf? Definitely hockey, but golf's a close second for sure. You're so lying right now. As a pro athlete. No, I watch both. Like, it's nice because usually golf's on during the day and hockey's on the night.
Starting point is 00:26:02 So if we have an off day or something like that, I'll kind of just hang out on the couch, watch the golf, relax, and then throw the hockey on at night. Have you ever thought about sending a DM to a golfer? It just completely shits the bedroom. your fantasy team like everybody else does? No, I hasn't gone that far yet. You should. I think you should, too.
Starting point is 00:26:21 It'd be fun. They see you, be like, what the hell? Yeah, that's good. I'd feel bad. Well, obviously, you all moved up to Utah a few years ago. We miss you here in the desert. But what's the move been like? Yeah, it's been an unbelievable move.
Starting point is 00:26:35 Like, I mean, I've said it so many times, but, like, since day one, Ryan and Ashley Smith have been, like, incredible Chris Armstrong, our president. Just like with, you know, everything that comes with moving, like making us feel comfortable. Like, I believe we have the best owner in the NHL. Just the way that we're treated and our families, you know, the things that they do for us that, you know, maybe the media or people might not see. Like, it really does mean a lot. And like, I love playing here.
Starting point is 00:27:05 The fans have been unbelievable since day one, you know, win or loss. like they always have her back and so supportive and, you know, just like a fan base that you really love to play for and give your all for. You know, you mentioned Ryan Smith, the owner, I mean, who is just phenomenal. I've gotten the chance to know him over the last few years. I have a good idea. You know, I think this offseason, July, it's a little hot here in Scottsdale. Maybe you and I just shack up at Ryan's place out there at Pebble Beach.
Starting point is 00:27:33 You know, I think there's room. Yeah. No, that's, we've talked about that a couple times. So I think this summer we've got to make. that true and but include he's a heck of a player yeah i love pebble tell him i love pebble we'll do a subpar from the backyard it's got a nice view yeah bring him a couple dozen balls too we'll make it worth as wild you know he's a sick player a really good player we played together a good amount and he he can play he look people we're at god i think i was with you we're at gosser we're sitting there and this
Starting point is 00:28:02 dude comes out decked in all utah gear we're talking having a couple pops with the boys all this stuff i got up i was like that guy who was that guy and they're like That's Ryan Smith. He owns Utah. And I was like, oh, well, he can hardly tell. I thought he was just a big fan. Just a dude, backwards hat. Yeah, like a little older version of Clayton.
Starting point is 00:28:19 Exactly. I was like, was it like some tech billionaire, you know? Sure is. Yeah, he is. But also, yeah, runs the whole place. But you're right. He's got a dude, like BYU, too. He's involved.
Starting point is 00:28:28 Like all the sports up there. Like he might be the number one. Like, who would you love to have as your owner? He might be the number one guy. Oh, no doubt about it. He's so involved with the community here. And, you know, going the extra. mile for the fan base and growing the game of hockey here and obviously he owns the jazz too so like we're
Starting point is 00:28:47 super supportive of them and go to a lot of their games like it's it's kind of got that you know one big family type field to it and it's it's been amazing so far do you think that half million dollar fine he got for tanking kind of kind of did he notice it even leave you think probably not what a what a fine that was speaking of your utah mammoth your man nick schmoltz just got a very nice new contract. Guy who also used to play here in Arizona. When someone gets a contract like that, does that immediately be like, oh, dinner's on you? Like, we're big dinner on the new contract guy?
Starting point is 00:29:22 Basically, yeah. Did you run up the tab good? We actually haven't done anything yet for it, but like in hockey, you kind of like put it on, like, the money on the board. It's like for like guys that sign or, you know, whatever joke it may be. We have like, if guys get haircuts, we'll say, you know, that's money on the board. and it kind of goes to the team fund for after the year. Pays for, you know, dinners throughout the year,
Starting point is 00:29:45 like if it's over, like, 12 people. I think every team's kind of different. So he put up, you have to win, though. You have to win the game to, like, get the money on the board. So he put up, I think, two games in a row, so we'll take a little bit of that money for sure. So there's always, for those that don't know, there's always little, like, challenges.
Starting point is 00:30:02 You put money on the board. If certain things happen, then it goes there, and it goes towards a pot at the end of the year that y'all go to Vegas or whatever. Yeah, basically. So it's like usually I think like 500 is the minimum, 500 to kind of whatever you want it to be. Some guys put up like team dinners if it's like, you know, a big game or you hit a milestone like 800 games or something like that. Guys will put up a good amount or they'll put up a team dinner to, you know, with the trainers, kind of get everyone involved and like put it toward, you know, a good cost.
Starting point is 00:30:33 It's like the self-suck char, but it's real. What was the thing about the haircut though? Like if you get a shitty haircut, like, hey, you get dead. Like, I guess, yeah, kind of, but like, every team's kind of, like, different. Like, we're pretty, like, funny about it, like, for making guys go up on the board. But, like, sometimes I do. Sometimes I don't. Like, if it's a bad haircut, we'll say, like, you know, that's 500 or, like, we play soccer before the game and, like, the final game, like, before we all kind of warm up, like, first guy out, that's usually 500 on the board.
Starting point is 00:31:00 So that's something we've been doing for the last two years. It's pretty funny. Like, guys, you know, everyone's kind of, like, chilling, you know, and then the 500 game is going on. and everyone's super locked in. There's an argument or, you know, someone's fighting about who should be out. So it's usually pretty fun, you know, to stay loose before the game. I like that. I also have a good idea for you because I've seen this when they go, like, to the locker room pregame and everything.
Starting point is 00:31:22 You got someone, like Biz has done it. I've seen someone's kids do it. They read the starting lineup card. I think you should, since you're the captain, you should have Sleez and I up to read the starting lineup card. We read real. I mean, you know, you don't rhyme pretty well, so, uh, why don't you ask him? You're the captain.
Starting point is 00:31:37 I feel like this would be up to you. you more than him, right? You're like, I don't care. Yeah, I mean, I usually, like, if we win, like, the same guy will read it. So I guess it just depends when you're out here. I think we need to make a trail. We'll put some money on the board. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:31:50 500, obviously. Minimum. Minutes. Just sign no new contract, bro. Get over yourself. All right, Clay, let's go on to the Olympics, dude. I mean, just one of the all-time greatest hockey games in the finals. But before, like, we get to the games, the finals, first Olympic experience for you,
Starting point is 00:32:06 just as a athlete, I don't know if you, stayed in the village, but what was the experience like? Before that, I want to know what the phone call was like to let you know that you're actually going to be on the team. Yeah, it was a super cool, unbelievable feeling. You know, I had obviously gone through a lot this year. My dad passed away and just a lot of emotions, a lot of, you know, thinking of all the people that sacrificed for me to, you know, make that team.
Starting point is 00:32:37 and, you know, just super thankful to be on that team. Like, it was such a great group of guys, like lots of guys that I was super familiar with from, you know, whether maybe, you know, the U.S. program, like World Juniors, men's worlds. Like, I feel like I knew pretty much almost every player on the U.S. team. And, you know, you could feel that connection, like, right away. And, you know, I think that's one of the reasons why that, you know, we won is just how close our group was. how comfortable that we were with each other. That's cool. I don't know that was how that worked with like the phone call.
Starting point is 00:33:13 So go to the experience as like as a team. Did you guys stay in the village? Did you stay off campus? No, yeah. We stayed in the village. It was, it was awesome. It was, we kind of didn't really know what to expect. And, you know, you kind of get in the rooms and the beds are like touching and you have, you know,
Starting point is 00:33:27 you have a roommate. So we kind of, you know, move the beds around, made some space and set up our rooms. But it was awesome. It was such a cool experience. Like just the dining hall was right there. and, you know, kind of seeing other athletes there in the village. And then, you know, our floor was kind of all USA. So it's pretty cool.
Starting point is 00:33:47 Like, I don't think anyone really had, like, their doors shut at any times. Like, it was all kind of one, like, big hangout. Lots of, you know, hanging out in the playing cards, things like that. Just really great group of guys. And, like, the experience was awesome. Like, it truly flew by. Like, it's crazy. Like, you know, it's, you know, it's,
Starting point is 00:34:07 not that many games when you think of it. So it's like once the hockey gets going, it just goes so quick. Yeah, just six games is all it is. But did you get a chance during the end of the downtime to go watch any other events? To be honest, not really. We watched, because some of the events were in like four hours away
Starting point is 00:34:27 in a different park. So it was really tough for us to even get out there. So like a couple guys went to like speed skating. We went to the women's hockey games a couple times to, you know, watch them. and things like that, but I didn't really get to a ton of other events. And like our schedule once we kind of got going was, you know, the games were at like 920 are the time there in Italy.
Starting point is 00:34:50 So it's just like the day kind of rolls over. You're sleeping until 11.30, 12. And you have a meeting, you're eating. And then it's kind of like almost intertime there soon. So it's like kind of, you know, quick turnaround for sure. Before we get back to Clayton Keller, a quick note from Nutraful. Starting point is 00:36:11 spelled N-U-T-R-A-F-O-L dot com promo code subpar. That's Nutraful.com promo code subpar. Now, back to Clayton. Outside the hockey team, was there any new athlete, either from the U.S. or from somewhere else that you got to meet another team
Starting point is 00:36:28 or just individuals that you thought were super cool you didn't know before? I don't know. I think we were actually around the women's team a lot. And Joy Dunn, I played with her brother growing up. And she was on the women's Olympic hockey team and just hadn't really known her that well. But we got to chat kind of after we won.
Starting point is 00:36:51 And they won and seeing them throughout the hallways and things like that, wishing them luck. And they were doing the same for us. So it was pretty cool because just that St. Louis connection, like playing on the biggest stage. like is pretty cool for sure. Absolutely. Well, let's get to this gold medal game because it was an all-timer.
Starting point is 00:37:09 And, I mean, it couldn't work out any better. U.S., Canada. What was it like leading into that game? Like, what were the nerves like heading into the game, you know, and it's gold medal? But also, I mean, you're playing Canada, which, I mean, this is the game everybody wants to see. Yeah, for sure.
Starting point is 00:37:23 Obviously, lots of emotions. And, you know, every game had been, like I said, like at that 9 o'clock start time. And then this one was kind of way earlier. I think it was at noon or something. So it was a quick, like that, by the way. What's that? I didn't like that.
Starting point is 00:37:38 Yeah, because it was early. It was 5.30 puck drop in L.A. Where I was. Yeah. I didn't like that. Yeah. Fair enough. But, you know, I think it was just like, for us, like, it was a little bit different.
Starting point is 00:37:49 And it was one of those things where, like, it was nice to kind of have it early. You didn't have the whole day to think about it. You just kind of got to go to the rink and prepare and try to, you know, play your best. and, you know, not overthink it and just have full confidence. And, you know, like I said, the leadership on the team, like, just, you know, it's a team full of, you know, unbelievable players, All-Stars, Stanley Cup winning guys. Like, it's cool to, you know, be around them and listen to their leadership and, like, just how, you know, one of the things I noticed right away is just how, like, confident and I think positive the bench
Starting point is 00:38:32 always was and guys were in the room like it almost i felt like it added more confidence to your game and i'm sure the others kind of felt that same way as well and you've played in huge games your whole live like you've won world championships and stuff how are the like the nerves the vibes in the locker room leading up to that game as compared to some of the other huge games you've played yeah i still think they were they're pretty like phone and light like in terms of like going back to soccer like we kind of play that to warm up. Like, everything was, was pretty, like, normal. Like, you know, you want to enjoy it and, you know, like, Kachuk brothers. And there's, we had so many different personalities, like, that always kept it light and, you know, it was never, like, quiet and, you know,
Starting point is 00:39:14 thinking of the moment. Like, we were just kind of, like, there and took it kind of head on. Well, it was a wild game. But can you just describe the play of your goaltender, Connor Hellebuck? I mean, how ridiculous was he in that gold medal game? Yeah, he's unbelievable. That's the best performance like I've ever seen, to be honest. Like some of those saves, like, you know, throughout the game, you'd see a chance and you'd be like, oh, no, that might go in and, like, he would save it. Like, I feel like that happened a couple times. And, like, it was just one of those performances, like you could tell he was so dialed in and he was going to do everything, you know, possible for us to win that game. And he did.
Starting point is 00:39:56 And such a great guy, too. like, you know, I've known for a little bit just throughout the years, but not, I haven't played with him in a while, but just like, great guy to be around, always, you know, a fun guy and absolute stud as well. The one where he reached back with the stick
Starting point is 00:40:12 and saved, it was just absurd. That was, yeah. It had to be a little weird for it. That should be, like, on his wall. Oh, yeah. I think it would be. It had to be a little weird, obviously, winning the gold medal for the U.S.,
Starting point is 00:40:24 and then, oh, hey, next game, I got a suit up for my team up here in Winnipeg. they're probably real happy with me. Yeah, exactly. I'm sure that was a little different for him, for sure. Give me overtime. You go to overtime, three-on-three. It's got a lot of opinions around it.
Starting point is 00:40:39 What do you think about it? And did you think that was like, is that helpful to the U.S.? Or a disadvantage for the U.S.? No, I mean, I think it's helpful for sure. I think, you know, three-on-three hockey is fun. It's exciting. There's, you know, it's kind of that, you know,
Starting point is 00:40:56 if you give up a chance and they don't score, you're going to get a great chance the other way. So I think it's fun hockey. Like anytime there's like three on three on, like in the NHL, like if I see it, when I mean dinner, so I'll immediately throw it on because, you know, I know it's going to be exciting, fun, going both ways. Like it can end at any time or, you know, things like that. So I think it's fun. I mean, it's part of the game.
Starting point is 00:41:23 And there's a little bit more space too. so like more plays are there and things like that. What do you think when they roll their first line out there, and it's McCar, McDavid, and the other guy, McKinnon? Yeah, I mean, that's obviously three unbelievable players. And, you know, I think we have the, you know, utmost confidence in the three guys that we threw out there too. So I think it's, like I said, it's great for the game of hockey,
Starting point is 00:41:51 the three-on-three. And, you know, there's world-class, talent with, you know, speed, skill and things like that. So, yeah, it's great to see us, you know, won that for sure. Yeah, I mean, obviously, y'all are loaded as well. But I just, as a hockey fan, just to see those three skate out there for the opening shift, I'm like, dear God, this is, for sure. This is terrifying. I mean, that's the competitive side of, you know, us players as well. It's like, you want to be out there against the best and, and put yourself up against guys like that. So that's how, you know, you look at it, I think. Yeah. I mean, is it all world finished?
Starting point is 00:42:28 Jack, who gets the winning goal there. You guys freak out. Take us inside the locker room after and maybe like the next 48 hours because that had to be a complete whirlwind for everybody involved. Yeah, no, it was obviously just like celebrations, uh, nonstop in the locker room, uh, you know, spraying beer everywhere and, uh, playing like the songs, um, you know, that, you know, dream on. a couple other, you know, just American songs. Toby Keith. Those are some of the best, like, you know, memories and times as well, just like, you know, arms around each other, you know, with the flag and everything, like playing for your country is a big deal and means so much.
Starting point is 00:43:08 And, you know, to come out on top is, you know, the best feeling ever. And it was kind of a quick turnaround. We actually really didn't sleep that night because we had like a 415 bus. So we kind of went from the locker room to like the U.S. like house, they call it, where like family and everyone was there. And they kind of had a big celebration for us and, you know, got to see family there, friends, things like that, kind of support us. And then quick turnaround right to the airport at 4.15 a.m. flew to, well, we were supposed to fly to New York. But weather, something happened with the weather. So we had to reroute to Miami. So we kind of got lucky on that one. And, you know, Matthew kind of set up the day and, or actually that day and night, basically.
Starting point is 00:44:00 And just an unbelievable time. Just we took like a quick parade around Miami. And there was actually a lot of people there supporting us. Like even at our hotel, there was, you know, before we kind of got on the bus or whatever, there was a lot of people like, you know, chanting USA and it was just like such a cool experience. Like I didn't really know what to expect and like it exceeded all expectations. What's the daytime spot there on the corner that goes nuts? It's got the balcony, especially during Dolphins games.
Starting point is 00:44:35 In Miami? Yeah. Damn it. I'm not sure. But anyway, did you partake in 11 later that night because that looked like it was a nice time? Yes, that was a very fun time. Mr. McAfee picked up the bill. One of the coolest nights.
Starting point is 00:44:50 What's that? McAfee picked up the bill. He did. He did get the bill. Damn. That was a tidy bill. Probably the best night I've ever had, like, out in my entire life. Just like the, you know, when he walked in, like, just how loud everyone was and just the support.
Starting point is 00:45:09 And everyone that was back to, you know, chanting USA. And, you know, kind of anything we did, a couple guys like hop. on the mic when we got there and people were going crazy it was kind of like a free for all for us like you know going on the stage and just uh absolutely sending it and uh enjoying it and uh it was just so fun like it was it was unbelievable didn't everyone sing the national anthem oh yeah in there yeah saw that video that was sick yeah it was it was a great experience so so cool did you jump on the mic i did not i think clayton that's surprising maybe maybe um maybe um Hela Buck did, Husey did, and maybe Matthew, I think.
Starting point is 00:45:53 So it was pretty funny. Did they play any Tate McCrae in honor of Jack Hughes? It's a good question. I can't fully remember. That's hard to recall much. I think they honestly rotated the same, like, Dream on, like the Toby Keith one. Like, they might have played that song like 30 times. Like they just kept going like back and forth.
Starting point is 00:46:16 to those to those like three songs it was it was awesome how many nights from the gold winning gold medal winning game till you got like a real night's sleep like the adrenaline went off and you stopped celebrating yeah there was a quick turnaround because then after that we had another early bus at like 815 like sharp but we were not on time for that one we had a few stragglers there and probably left out around like 840 right to the white House, did that whole experience, and then flew out after the White House, got back to Utah, probably around like 7.30-ish time, and then slept actually decent that night because I hadn't slept in like two days, basically, and then played the next day. So it was a crazy turnaround for
Starting point is 00:47:07 sure. Like, it was nuts. Did you go to the State of the Union or no? No, I didn't. Just because I was going to get back like too late. Like it would have been like one or two 30 Utah time. And then like to play that next day would have just been even tougher. So I kind of just came back early. The boss man came and picked you up. That was rather nice. Very nice of him to do that.
Starting point is 00:47:32 Yeah. Yeah. What a guy. Where's the gold medal right now? Why aren't you wearing it? It's actually in my room right now. Well, before the show's over, I'm going to need you to go get it. Just chilling.
Starting point is 00:47:41 So we can take a little. look at it. Slide that little piece on. Clayton, what's the, what's the protocol with Canadian players, like your friends, like who are on that Olympic team that you see at NHL games? Like, is it too fresh of a wound or too deep to like, what the hell happened there? It just froze. Oh, it did. Oh, okay. Oh, now. Now it's good. All right. I'll just start it over. Clayton, what's the protocol? When you come back, you're playing NHL games. You see Canadian players who are on that Olympic team, right? Is it, is it too fresh of a wound, too deep of a wound to give them shit about the game yet? Or do you just say, screw it, go in? No, I mean, I think you're just, you're just
Starting point is 00:48:21 playing, you know, like, you want to win and lose the same way, be, you know, respectful and things like that. But I'm sure guys that, like, had Canadian players, like, on their team, like, I'm sure they made, like, some subtle jokes, but, no, not really, like, during the games or anything like that, like just, you know, keep it every professional. You think the Cucucke boys aren't chirping a little bit? Come on now. You're just too nice. Yeah, for sure. You're just way too nice. But I do think because y'all beat the Canadians, it made Ray Whitney apply for American citizenship, by the way. Is that true? Yeah, he just, I believe he just became an American citizen. He is. He's been hanging out here for so long.
Starting point is 00:49:02 No, that's the way we could get into trouble. We got one down here. We got one. The wizard. But yeah, he's now dual citizenship now. I think it's solely because Canada lost in the gold medal game. Wow, I got to send him a text. Yeah, welcome to America. Yeah, hit him up. Land of the Gold is what I would like to tell. I like that.
Starting point is 00:49:22 I like that. Print a tease, print a tease. Is it hard to come back and play NHL? Like that night when you suit up, like, you got to be just A, dragging ass and be like, dude, I just play the biggest game of my life now. This one, it's hard to get up for this. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:49:36 I think honestly, like, I actually feel. felt better than I thought I would, to be honest. Like, you still have, like, excitement. Like, I love, you know, playing in Utah, playing in the NHL, obviously. And, like, I get excited for every game. So, like, the nerves were there, like, they usually were. And, you know, I actually felt better than I thought I would, to be honest. What was the reception like when you came onto the ice for the first time?
Starting point is 00:50:04 It was great. Like, they kind of had, like, you know, congratulations. to all the guys I played in the Olympics and to me as well. And just super cool, like the support from the fans, like even the people that work in the arena as I was walking into the game that night, like, I think every single person said, like, congratulations. Like, you know, that was super cool and meant a lot to me as well. Yeah, it was awesome.
Starting point is 00:50:30 I mean, the whole country rallied behind you, boys. It was awesome to watch you and the women's team. It was so cool for y'all to sweep the golds there at the Olympics. But let's talk a little golf before we let you get. out of here. You're up in Utah now. Obviously, not the greatest golf weather all year around, but have you found any good courses up there that you enjoy? Yeah, I've played a little bit before the season. I haven't played at all during the season the last two years, but Glenn Wilde's a good track. I've put there a couple times. Ryan's a member at, I'm blanking on the name, but I believe
Starting point is 00:51:01 it's BYU's course. Really good course. I think like Tony plays there a good amount when he's here. who's the other guy from Utah blanking out his name he actually played this week Zach Blair? Yes, I think he plays there too I like that track a lot A lot of You know, it's kind of like tree line
Starting point is 00:51:24 But it's the greens are super fast And it's always in really good shape So those two will give a shout out too Ball goes far up there Oh yeah You did it far up here Clayton I'm smashing it.
Starting point is 00:51:39 Get him, Clayton. This little quantum driver right here by Callaway. You have no part of this right now because I am sending it. You might be hitting first into the Greens. I got it right that time. When are you coming back down to get a little of this action face-to-face? After the season. All right.
Starting point is 00:51:56 I'll be down there. I got to play sleaze. We still haven't played together. I know. We'll team up. It's not that impressive. You can pick whoever you want. You get whiz.
Starting point is 00:52:03 Me and Cleaves versus anyone you want. You get whiz or commie, whoever, we'll go a little two-on-two. Yeah. Bring the gold with you. I'm going to mark my ball with it. I will. I got a question for you guys, though. I need picks for this week.
Starting point is 00:52:18 And I need your early master's winner. I got a question. Here's how this works. Yeah. We ask the questions on this show. Okay? This is subpar. We're interviewing you.
Starting point is 00:52:28 You will text us 9,000 times between now and the start of the Texas Children's Houston Open. We will get to that. We're putting you on the spot, okay, for the master's. No, but I, that's my, I haven't asked, that's my one question of the show. I guess that's good. Yeah, you're a loud one. We'll answer that. You can choose which one you want to answer.
Starting point is 00:52:46 Okay. I'll go both. I'll take Jake Knapp. If you'd rather answer this week or Mass. Okay, you're going to hold on. I'll take Jake Knapp in Houston and I take, I'm not going to pick Scotty or Roy. I'll take Ludwig at Augusta, just right here off the cuff.
Starting point is 00:53:00 Okay. I haven't even looked at the field this week, but if Tony Fienow is playing, I'm going to take him. Good one. Just because you're on this episode, and he's a Utah guy. He is playing. Masters, I'll go John Rom. Good one also. I love Rom.
Starting point is 00:53:12 That's my pick as well for the Masters. You're going Rom for the Masters? Yes. All right, give me a dark course from Clayton Keller for the Masters. That's such a great question. If you say like Matt Fitzpatrick, that doesn't count. He's sixth in the world. Xander Shuffler.
Starting point is 00:53:29 You own a dark course. They don't win much at Augusta. Cory Connors. He's up there a lot. There you go. There you go. Canada He's got good history there.
Starting point is 00:53:42 Canada deserves a dub. Hey, there's my last question, though, on the picks thing. Who gives shittier picks, do you think, me or Colt on a weekly basis? Me. Yeah, you're not winning a lot of bets right now. Well, to the picks, I'm not. Be okay.
Starting point is 00:53:55 I've had some decent. No, Coltsman hit or miss. I guess some good weeks and bad weeks. To be fair, yes. I'll be packing up my shit from the tournament and going to the airport and be like, so who do you like this next week? I'm like, can I take a two-second break from talking golf?
Starting point is 00:54:09 When I was texting him to come on, I was scrolling back in my, like, you know, looking at it, it's just, here's our exchanges, who you like this week?
Starting point is 00:54:17 And then I name of your names. And then it's a week later, who you like this week? I'd name of your names. Hey, how are you? How's the fan? How's your game?
Starting point is 00:54:24 If you're picked too well, though, usually send me like, you know, you're welcome or something like that. Oh, yeah. He'll let you know. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:54:30 if that win, you bet your ass, I'm sending one. I say leave me alone. Money on the board. Leave me alone. It's Monday. I want a time out from golf.
Starting point is 00:54:39 Clayton, man, we really appreciate you. We miss you down here in Scottsdale. Congrats on the gold medal to you and Team USA. It was awesome to watch. Best of luck the rest of the season up in Utah, and we'll see you this summer. Yeah, get that game right. Bring that wallet.
Starting point is 00:54:50 Thanks for having me, boys. Really appreciate it. Come on anytime. You're the man. We'll see you soon, brother. Thank you so much. All right, that was Clayton Keller of the Utah Mammoth and Team USA. Joining us on Subpart.
Starting point is 00:55:01 Man, what a cool experience that was. Going over to Italy, getting the gold medal, beaten Canada and then just having the entire country supporting you and just absolutely throwing the biggest party possible between going to 11 in Miami up to the state of the union going to the White House. What a cool experience, man. I mean, that's as good as it gets. Yeah, he may go on to win three Stanley Cups. I don't know if anything can surpass that. That was unbelievable the amount of support they got, all the stuff that came with it. Going back and playing regular NHL games after that had to be a little bit tough. But shout out.
Starting point is 00:55:35 to him for coming on. We'd been wanting to get him on ever since it happened. A lot of stuff. Busy men, obviously. But shout out to Clayton. Also, he texts me, as he always does. I was like, come on. I'll give you, I'll give you good picks if you come on. So Sunday, Saturday night, he's like, who you like, tomorrow? Who's going to have a good round tomorrow? I was like, Gary's going to win. He's like, I know, yeah, give me somebody that was just going to play good. And I was like, Thorpe Bjornson. It'd be a good day. Like, shot two over. So they're like, one of the worst scores of anyone in the top Twitter. And he's just like, you fucking idiot.
Starting point is 00:56:03 You know. Do your research, Clayton. You get what you pay for. That's exactly right. You know what I mean? So anyways. And then he's already today. Of course.
Starting point is 00:56:12 You got next week. I'm like, damn. He's a degenerate. I mean, lick my wounds a little bit. But he can skate. He can skate.
Starting point is 00:56:16 You shoot that puck. Gold medals. Congratulations to you, Clayton and Team USA. By the way, we're a week away from the Masters. We're going to be in Augusta. And so he's got announced today.
Starting point is 00:56:25 I'll be making my first appearance on the main broadcast. How about it, dude? Congratulations. Thank you. This is a big moment. A big moment. What's your town? I'm going to be up in 14 tower.
Starting point is 00:56:36 Yeah. So I cover three holes. If you know, like each announcer has a certain amount of holes and everything. I got four, eight and 14. But I'm very excited, man.
Starting point is 00:56:43 All four days, obviously, but to be on the main show, Saturday and Sunday for CBS, it's going to be awesome. Weather's looking nice, too, by the way. But it should be a very exciting week
Starting point is 00:56:53 for the 90th Masters. As big as it gets in broadcasting. Congratulations. You're going to be great. It's going to be fun. Can't wait to get there. You're going to be great. Hopefully coming off a little first.
Starting point is 00:57:01 round exit in the club champion. You don't want that? I've already had like five people, by the way, tell me, like, dude, they got a rig it. So you all play guys. I was like, well, there's only 16 dudes that make it. So if you win. I got to get through stroke play first.
Starting point is 00:57:13 I was going to say, I was like, dude, I need this practice round just to get my shit right. So anyways, that's going to be awesome. Congratulations, dude. Thank you. Week away. Can't wait to get there. Thanks to Clayton Keller for joining us.
Starting point is 00:57:23 Once again, congratulations. Gary Woodland. We love you, my man. So awesome to see you back in the winter circle. And just everything you're going through, man. You're the best, dude. you deserve every bit of it but that's going to do it for us we'll talk to you on next week's subpar
