Starting point is 00:01:14 we seem to be doing this a lot lately, but another tournament on the PGA tour, another win for Scotty Sheffler. Three of the last four just dominated at the memorial, or as Jim Nant said, a blowout, which we will get to here in a little bit, but the guy's just been on an absolute heater, one by four.
Starting point is 00:01:31 He's now won by eight, five, and four strokes in his last three wins. I mean, the guy's just a machine. three out of four one by 17 has as many wins in may as the Colorado Rockies that's pretty that's pretty cool fucking status I'm sitting here wearing my Colorado shirt you're colorado Rockies yeah my Colorado Rockies I'm diehard but I we really should just have something pre-recorded that we just fill in when Scotty wins because like I feel like we're just beating a dead horse at this point he's so far in a way the best player on the planet
Starting point is 00:02:00 when you get him on a very difficult golf course like this I thought myr field by the way played awesome. I love that. You had to hit fairways. He had no chance. The scoring was great. I think only 11 guys broke par, as is typically the case up there. Jack did a great job. But I used to think the heart of the golf course, the more at favor Scotty. Then he went and won by 100 in Dallas on an easy golf course. And I was like, okay, well, maybe he can win on easy ones too. I mean, I just, I really don't know what to say. I think the only thing you can take away from this week, even is, you know, we always talk about his driving, his ball striking. He led the field in scrambling this week, too, just to let you know, I can do it this way.
Starting point is 00:02:35 I don't think it was his best stuff, Tita Green, that he's got, even though he led most of the categories in that too. But, I mean, what more can you say? He, uh, dude, it's just, it's so special to watch. I walked with him on Saturday. You know, we came on really late because of the Champions League soccer. So I only had nine holes with him. And it was the day where he pard the first 13 holes.
Starting point is 00:02:54 And he was just, you know, out there, like he hit it close a few times, missed a few, nothing really going. It was playing tough. And then all of a sudden, bam, 14, 15, 16. 17, 18, 4 under par, 68. He's leading by one going into Sunday. Dirt nap. No one's going to catch him.
Starting point is 00:03:11 I mean, shout out to Ben Griffin. He fought really hard, had the Birdie and the Eagle coming in there. But this guy, dude, he just, he doesn't make mistakes. One bogey on the weekend on a very difficult golf course. And I do agree with you. Like, at Birdie Fest, like someone can get really hot and beat him. But when it's set up really difficult where it tests every facet of your game. and single digits is going to win.
Starting point is 00:03:35 I mean, I know he got to 10 under, but single digits is going to win. And he has any of his stuff at all. I'm talking like B-gang. He's winning this golf tournament. Yeah, I'm completely with you. I thought the shootouts, the American Express, you know, he did it at TBC Craig Ranch.
Starting point is 00:03:51 I'm like, that's so much based on putting because Tita Green, it's not as challenging as other courses. So everybody's going to have a ton of great looks. You get out with the putter, anybody can beat anybody. These type of golf courses, there's just not many people that can beat him, Colton. I mean, we're coming up in two weeks. He's going to have a week off.
Starting point is 00:04:06 We'll get to see Rory up in Canada, see what he looks like. But we're going to a place, by all accounts, Oakmont is going to be the toughest U.S. Open Test we've seen in a long, long time. I saw some more videos from guys that were out there today. I believe Rory was out there, actually. Today, it looks diabolical. And, I mean, for a guy that drives it, he's not the longest in the world, but he's pretty damn straight, pretty great overall in total driving.
Starting point is 00:04:28 Irons it like he does. He always misses on the right side, it seems like, which is part of the reason why his scrambling is so good. He leaves himself with the easiest chip most of the time. I mean, it's just, I don't see, something would have to go wonky in his game for him to not be, to not win the U.S. Open, I think. I mean, it's just, that's like the perfect place for him, I feel like. 100%. You know, I don't know if he's been to Okman at all, but I don't really care, as I say on here all the time.
Starting point is 00:04:54 If they got 18 T-boxes, 18 greens and 18 holes cut, I mean, he's the best player in the world, and I expect him to win. I mean, looking right now over at Fanatic Sportsbook, he's plus 275 to win the U.S. Open. Roy is plus 620. I saw a stat where we haven't seen odds this low at a major championship since Tiger Woods was plus 175 to win an 09 at Bethpage. I mean, we're approaching it. Yeah. I mean, right now, we haven't, it's normally like Scotty and Rory or the field, or then it was like Scotty, Rory, Zander, or the field. Like, we're approaching Scotty or the field territory here.
Starting point is 00:05:29 If he goes off and picks off this U.S. Open, I mean, it's just going to be, we're in the midst of greatness. And as much credit as he gets and is given because he's a soft-spoken guy, I don't know that it's getting all the love that it deserves for how good it is. Yeah, it's, I mean, walking with him out there. Like, I walked with him on Saturday, Jordan Speeth on Sunday. And you talk about two guys playing the same sport, but it just doesn't look the same right now. I love Jordan Speeat. He had a top 10. He played very nice.
Starting point is 00:05:54 But the amount of work that goes in for Jordan Speath to get his round in, compared. to Scotty Sheffler. It is crazy. We talked about he almost killed the guy on the first hole. He almost caught a body. Yeah. Manslaughter on hole one. Hey, but it is the greatest TV. Walk with it. Like Sellers Shy, text me. So fun. Do you want to go with the next last group or Jordan? I'm like, dude,
Starting point is 00:06:14 give me Jordan. I've got to watch. This is so much fun. It's exhausting. Like I get in so many more steps chasing his golf ball around. But man, it is just, it's awesome. But the conversation between him and Greller, it's great, man. I hope Jordan, you know, gets back to what we're used to seeing out of Jordan Speed. It's getting closer, but he's still, he's hitting it all over the map right now. It's, uh, it looks stressful out there compared to what Scotty Sheffler was doing.
Starting point is 00:06:38 It's fun as shit to watch. It's a complete polar opposite of what Scottie does. You never know what you're going to get with Jordan. If you're like, if you're a Jordan Speed fan, I think optimistically, you look at that last week and be like, look at all these birdies.
Starting point is 00:06:50 Like the good golf is there. It just seems to he like makes a birdie, he falls it up with a bogey. He shoots even par with six birdies on a golf course that people were struggling to make birdies on. Like, there's a lot of good in there to like. But it's fun, dude. He does some weird shit out there.
Starting point is 00:07:04 That first hole, what are people doing? Yeah. Like the video that came out, I'm like, it looks on that video like Jordan's aiming right of the people and they're just standing there holding up their iPhone. Like, oh, this is cool. By the way, this is a guy that just blew it 35 yards right off a flat lie and a T. What do you think he's going to do with the ball shin high out of the deep rough? Like, I don't know what we're waiting on for people to get the fuck out of the way.
Starting point is 00:07:26 Hey, good reflexes by those people, though. I mean, they ducted time, but that one video that came out with the point of view where he was shooting back and short, I mean, good Lord, that thing was a heat-seeking missile. It was terrifying. I literally said right before he hit the shot, I'm like, why are those people standing there? Yeah. What is he, what are they doing? And all of a sudden, bam. I'm like, oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:07:45 But, yeah, it was an awesome week at the Memorial, man. That place, it shows out. I'll be honest. People ask me all the time. Like, what's the best stop on tour? It's going to be hard for me not to say the memorial going forward. You talk about massive crowds, awesome golf course, and what a lot of people ask is the scenery around the golf course. Rather nice up there in Columbus.
Starting point is 00:08:05 They do it right. Scenic, scenic, Ohio. I believe that's the nickname for their state. You know what else I really loved about this week? You always get the Jack Nicholas interview. You get him up in the booth and all the things. Post-Tourment Presser, and he's just like, you know, Substraka, Nick Taylor, who else was a Ben Griffin? They're all nice little players, but they're just not in the same.
Starting point is 00:08:26 league as Scotty. And I was like, hey, that's 100% right. There's not zero lie that you said in that thing. But I also didn't expect you to say that in front of everyone. By the way, with Scotty, sitting right next to him. It's probably like, Jesus, Jesus, Mr. Nicholas. Like, you know. Mr. Nicholas doesn't give a damn. He's going to just say what he thinks. He's like, yeah, Scotty, he ain't worried about these guys. They're not in his league. Nice players. He's right. But you just don't hear people be that blunt very often. So shout out to Jack. He also said, like, you know, it might have been different. He might have thought he had to do more if it was one of the top guys chasing him, and then he kind of searched for a name, and he rattled
Starting point is 00:08:58 off Zander. And I thought it was interesting. No Rory, which is kind of the name that gets lumped with Scotty the most when you say that. But Rory opted out and obviously didn't tell Jack, which I don't know how that rubbed him, but I thought that was interesting. Yeah, very interesting, but yeah, I got a chuckle out of it. That's for sure. Nice little player. Like I said, great week up there. We got golf's longest day going on right now as we filmed it. We got a couple of guys, subpar guests that have made it through. Max Homa actually three putted his last hole for par from 25 feet. Looks like he's going to be in a playoff to get into the U.S. open carrying his own bag too, by the way. Shout out. Yeah, how about that? No cat he needed.
Starting point is 00:09:34 After 72 holes around Jack's Place, which is a haul go out there today. The three putt on the 18th was brutal. Rick, on the flip side of that, Ricky Fowler made a nice birdie on the 18th to get into that playoff. That could be gnarly. Blades Brown, don't know how he's going to finish up here as we're still, you know, we're recording. They're still playing, but he was looking like he's in good shape as well. It's a, that longest thing golf, it's a fun one. It's a fun one to watch. I was pretty terrible in my tenure at this thing. I think I was like 0 for six or. Yeah, I got in one. It's a cool. It's a cool day. I actually didn't even try to qualify most years because it was always during Memphis and I like that place. I thought I could play well
Starting point is 00:10:10 there and I didn't want to wear my ass out playing 36 before the heat in Memphis. But yeah, it's a, it's a crazy day, man. Some cool stories. We had Ryan French on our serious XM show. today talking about some of the stories. You got the UPS driver who was looking to make it to the, you know, and then he sat down with his dad to have lunch after his first ride and missed his goddamn tea time in the afternoon. It's right on brand for UPS. Never on time.
Starting point is 00:10:34 Never where they're supposed to be at the time they're supposed to be that. That's why you use FedEx. No, that's why we use shipsticks, ladies. Well, of course, shipsticks. Of course. Yeah, I'm talking like mail. Yeah, he would have showed up on it. He would have made his tea time.
Starting point is 00:10:45 But speaking of shipsticks, I'm up here in Baltimore this week, got an hour. got an outing for BMW at Caves Valley tomorrow. And do you think I dragged my clubs through the airport? You're no dummy. You ain't no dummy? Why would you? And when you're done with them, what are you going to do? Ship them right on back home to Arizona?
Starting point is 00:11:02 100%. No dragging clubs through the airport ever again. I use ship sticks every time. Colt does as well. No lines. No lugging. No stress. Straight to the golf course.
Starting point is 00:11:12 Roll through the airport security with zero stress whatsoever. Just eliminate it all. You got no lines, no lugging, no stress. Just grab your sticks. They go straight. to the course, roll through security with no stress whatsoever. And right now, Shipsticks is offering our listeners 20% off your first shipment when you go to Shipsticks.com and use the code subpar 20. Go to Shipsticks.com, use the code subpar 20 to get 20% off
Starting point is 00:11:34 your first shipment and save yourself to hassle this golf season. That's S-H-I-P-S-T-I-C-S.com. Make sure use the code subpar 20 so they know we sent you, change your life. Yes, no doubt about it. We're also some very exciting news, Sleys. We're heading up to Fanatics Fest in New York City. We're going to be definitely using chipsticks to get our clubs there. But Fanatics Fest is making its return to New York City this summer, June 20th through 22nd at the Javitt Center. It's a three-day celebration where sports, culture, and collecting converge, bringing fans closer to their favorite athletes and leagues than ever before. Expect appearances from names like Tom Brady, Derek Jeter, Kevin Durant, and more.
Starting point is 00:12:11 Plus live podcasts, exclusive merch collabs, and immersive activations from the NBA, NFL, MLB, W.W.E and beyond. tickets are on sale now at fanaticsfest.com and you can use code subpar 15 for 15% off, up to four tickets. Don't miss it. The stars are out. We're going to be there. I can't wait. I can't wait, dude.
Starting point is 00:12:32 Tom Brady, Derek Jeter, Kevin Durant. Ever heard of them? The stars are out. By the way, we're going to be talking to and sitting down with the great C.C. Sabathia. Love that man. He loves his golf. He's going to be a good one. He might be the coolest, the
Starting point is 00:12:47 coolest dude that there is. It's impossible to not like him. You just offended quite a few people, but you know, whatever. I'll go with it. Tough shit. Take it up with Cece. But no, it's going to be a lot of fun. And I'll tell you what, last week was a lot of fun too, because we finally got a winner with our boys over
Starting point is 00:13:04 at Fanatic Sports Book. Keegan Bradley, top 20. Thank you, Captain. Appreciate you. Now, let's keep it rolling. We are on to the RBC Canadian Open. New golf course. TPC, Toronto at Osprey Bay or something like that. I think is what it's called.
Starting point is 00:13:19 Heard, it's a very big golf course, 7,500 yard par, 70, I believe, wide open fairways. I saw they had a Canadian tour event here. I believe 25 under par one, so I'll be interested to see what these guys do and how they set it up. It is obviously a national open,
Starting point is 00:13:35 so hopefully they set it up a little difficult. But the guy that won on this golf course, I don't think a lot of them know about it. One of the guys that won an event here is Taylor Pindrith. He's a proud Canadian, and you can get him over at Fanatic Sportsbook, top 20 at plus 140. Taylor Pendrith, let's do it, my man.
Starting point is 00:13:52 There you go, going with a little local flair, also bombs it. 25 under, though, on the Canadian tour, does give me pause about what might happen up here this week. I played that tour, by the way. I wouldn't shoot 25 under, but yeah, maybe they'll set it up different, but I like that pick. I'm going to need your help here, BG, because I believe I'm on an 0-4-3 stretch now,
Starting point is 00:14:12 three or four in a row. So I'm going to ask for your advice here. The guy I'm taking is, plan some good golf. Okay, top 20 and four of his last five, just coming off a 12th at the Memorial. He puts, he's been putting it phenomenal all year. Ball striking starting to line up with that. My question is, do I take him for a top 20 or a top 10? The man that I'm going with is Sam Burns. Top 20 is plus 150, top 10, plus 330. Do I just try to get off the Schneide? Take the 150 and just get a hit, get on base. I like trying to get off the Schneid right now.
Starting point is 00:14:42 Sam Burns is playing some good golf. He shot seven under par on Friday in just this pissed down rain. was miserable out there. Really impressive round. But let's get off the snide here. Let's get two winners for the people. All right. Top 20 official plus 150. Sam Burns up in Canada.
Starting point is 00:14:57 Let's go, Sammy. All right. Well, let's get to our interview this week, man. A lot of people out there might not know about this guy. You know, he's been a very good friend of mine for a long time. He's done so much for the game of golf. The North Texas PGA. He has sponsored their junior tour for 20 years now, I believe.
Starting point is 00:15:14 Raised a lot of money for great charities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He's a Texas Golf Hall of Famer. And he's just a funny dude. I love this man. But here's Finn Ewing on Golf Subpar. All right, without further ado, we got a man joining us today. Your name comes up a lot here on this show. I think it's time for everyone to meet you.
Starting point is 00:15:33 You're a Texas Golf Hall of Famer. You get back to the game of golf in a number of ways, also to charitable organizations. Hornfrog, maybe most importantly, singer-songwriter, music icon. Finn Ewing is here. Finn, what a pleasure this is. Go Frogs. Go Frogs is right. Good to have you.
Starting point is 00:15:50 Okay, I got to tell you, I was listening to y'all's podcast when Scotty Schaeffler was in here. How am I the dog when I loaned him a car so he could drive it to see if he wanted it or not? And he locked his kid in my car and Colty, you and Schaeffler made it all my fault. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. You and Sheffler made it all my fault. Sheffin made it all my fault. I had a source that told me what happened, and I just reported what the source told me. And Scotty said you gave him a shitty car.
Starting point is 00:16:24 He had to break the window out to get his kid out. Okay. Do you know why he told me he broke the window? Because he said his kid made a funny face. I said, that's called gas. That's a flatulent, fart, whatever. He, that was, and he broke the window out because the kid made a funny face. Did you make him buy the car?
Starting point is 00:16:47 Should have to. Oh, yeah. You can't bring it back damage. Did you actually charge him? For the window? No, for the car. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:54 Okay. You want to afford it. For people that don't know, you grew up in the car business. Okay, your son's, he's got control now. Right. You don't do anything. Oh, I do a lot. It's just not there.
Starting point is 00:17:05 Flew out here to do this podcast. But you want to give us, you want to give us your motto there at Ewing Auto Haas? Go to you and get a screwing. That's what I'm talking about. That's good. You're honest. Hey, how do you think I flew out here? Exactly. Go to South West.
Starting point is 00:17:21 It wasn't losing money on every deal. I've bought a couple of cars from him. And every time the day after, he'll just call me. He's like, ooh, we fucked you like a tall dog. We screwed him, baby. I'm telling you what, he hated that day. Yeah, that was expensive. It's been expensive being a friend of yours.
Starting point is 00:17:36 Yeah, yeah, I like that. You like that? And then all the money that we pay you to do our golf tournament in Dallas. Yeah, all nothing. Yeah, zero. I'm still waiting on my gift. pay for. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:47 You got it. I don't know. I gave my address for something. I don't think it was for a bill. Oh, oh, yeah. Oh, you will get. I wonder what you're getting.
Starting point is 00:17:53 What are you getting? I don't know. Invoice, probably. Yeah, probably. Hopefully. But before we start having some real fun with you, because you've, your name has come up a lot on a lot of podcasts, where it's Keith Mitchell, obviously Scotty Schaeffler, Jordan Speeith. Everybody knows Finn Ewing, especially in the Dallas area.
Starting point is 00:18:07 But we'll give you some props. I mean, what you've done with the North Texas PGA, sponsoring that junior golf tour has just been incredible. You've done more for the game than pretty much anybody I know. But just tell us a little bit of how you got involved with the game of golf. Stop beating your hands on the seat. Are you talking about like from the very, I mean, I started playing when I was five. Yeah, but you're terrible. I just meant how to have you held in the game of golf? I've been going to Randy for 35 years and I'm still hooking the ball. But, you know, the, that, that, that, charity, the North Texas section in that tour that we have. So it used to be the Westcott. You
Starting point is 00:18:47 remember when it was Westcott, Carl Westcott was a car dealer and he sold out. And then he went and did something else and made a ton of money. So he was sponsoring that thing. He's a great guy. And then he did it for five years. And then he decided he didn't want to do it anymore. So Randy called me one day, Randy Smith, for those that don't know Randy. Randy called me one day and he said Carl's not going to do the North Texas section anymore. I said, man, that's a shame.
Starting point is 00:19:16 Well, that's too bad. He goes, no, it's not. I go, why do you don't like Carl? He goes, no, you're going to do it. And I go, I am? I said, how much is that thing? He goes, what difference does it make? Think about all the bases you're going to cover.
Starting point is 00:19:32 I go, what basis am I going to cover it? He goes, Finn, we're having lunch tomorrow with Mark Harrison. I mean, no, at the time it was Daryl Crawl with Daryl. And we're doing this thing. I said, we. You French, Randy? Yeah, you're speaking French. And so we met the next day and we put it together.
Starting point is 00:19:55 And this next year's our 20th year. Man, that's awesome. No kidding. 20 years. Good for you. Over 500 tournaments, right? Like each year with everything. Yeah, over 500.
Starting point is 00:20:04 Yeah. Damn. You know, it's been one of the coolest things. After you've been doing it long enough, you walk around, you'll see our hats, you know, in Dallas. It's, you know, mostly in Dallas and West Texas. But you see our hats all over the place. In fact, Cody even wears one. Well, yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:24 He gets a free car. He'll do anything for free. Yeah, Cody Gribble, he gets a free car. Cody Grimmel gets a free car. Scotty Sheffler doesn't. Well, I mean, which one would you rather have? Hey, Cody Grovel. Coach Fields told him.
Starting point is 00:20:34 Cody Gribble built the UT golf program. One of the most influential players in the history of the Texas golf program. Well, that's because he got Spieth and all those other guys. Yeah, he's a good recruiter. That's what he was recruiting. That's the only reason. That NTPGA, that's the one that Scotty won like, what, I mean, 98 tournaments or something as a kid, yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:53 I think it'd be easier to count the ones he lost. At one point. Losing would have been second. Yeah, at one point he won like 40 or 42 weeks in one summer. So he had a pretty good idea he might turn out to be something. He could be a special. He might be okay. Well, you've done so much for the NTPGA, which is awesome.
Starting point is 00:21:09 But you're also a member of the Texas Golf Hall of Fame, which is not easy to get into. I believe there's 171 members. You went in on the Lifetime Achievement Award because of everything you've done for the game. But how much did it mean for you to get put in there with the likes of obviously Randy Smith, Justin Leonard, Lee Trevino, DA Wybring, so many great players and coaches?
Starting point is 00:21:29 Ben Hogan, you know, when I look at that deal, you can go back and look at all those names. I'm going, man, these people were screwed up. I slid in and nobody knew it. Yep. But you know what? The golf has been so good to my family. My dad was a really good player.
Starting point is 00:21:48 It skips a generation. Yes, it did. And so dad was a really good player. And we played, you know, before I knew you, I actually had a little game. And we had fun. I mean, we've gone all over the world playing golf. And we've had, you meet people. You know, sometimes you meet people like you, which is great.
Starting point is 00:22:06 And then sometimes you meet a, you know, fat guy and you don't want to be around it. But, you know, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's such a great game. And we're all so lucky and we're so fortunate. And there's, you know, I guess, you know, you can say people live in India, they don't play golf. But there are a lot of less fortunate people that can't play golf and do what we do. We are so lucky. And so, you know, our whole deal is to try to give back a little bit. And you do.
Starting point is 00:22:30 Amen. Yeah, you do a great job. Good man. You mean, speaking of playing are all around the road. you used to be allowed to play Cyprus. Oh, no. Oh, no. Were you a member at Cypress Point?
Starting point is 00:22:43 Was that right? No, my dad was, I was hoping I was going to be a member. I really wanted to be a member. Do you want to tell the story? Are you just smoking them out here on Cyprus? I kind of want to hear this, though. I'll tell you a funny story. Well, this isn't funny, but dad died in 96.
Starting point is 00:23:08 And so he was a member of Cyprus. And he was a member of Cyprus point. No, that's not funny. And so mom, you know, dated some and she had a couple of boyfriends and stuff, but, you know, whenever going to get married. And the deal is, is that if, if, so mom took his membership in a, in a, like a, a certain way. But it's like a lady's affiliate or something like that. And so, but all I knew is that I could go play there.
Starting point is 00:23:34 So when she started dating this one guy, she said, we're going to get married. And Finley looked at me like, because if you get married, the ladies affiliate goes away. So Finley goes, yeah, do you know what that means? I said, yes, I do, Finley. Well, we can't let it happen. So he said, why can't she just live with him? Yeah, because she's how old was she? 92.
Starting point is 00:24:03 That can't work. So, so she said, I said, Mom, you sure she, you, are you going to, we're going to, are we going to marry? We're going to get married, don't we're going to get married? Oh, yeah. I'm so happy. I said, boy, that's, what happens? You know, we're going to lose Cyprus.
Starting point is 00:24:19 She goes, we are? I said, yeah, because she goes, well, I don't care. I don't play off anyway. Yeah, she don't play off. I'm sitting there thinking, oh, me either. So we're at the church, and they're up there, and they're doing their vows and all this stuff. And he says I do, and mom says, I do. And Finley goes, shit.
Starting point is 00:24:47 Right there in the church. And that ended our membership. It was all over. Now you're a guest. Damn, I hope it was true love. Oh. He died two years later. Well, damn.
Starting point is 00:25:01 I don't need to laugh. Colt's laughing. There's death we're talking about here, dude. Come on, have a little respect. You can still be playing Cyprus. Yeah, that's a tough break. Yeah. I could.
Starting point is 00:25:11 That's a tough one. Before we get back to our interview with Finn Ewing, a quick note from golf pride. When it comes to your swing, consistency is everything. And that starts with how you grip the club. That's why I'm rolling with the new Align Max grips from golf pride. They've got this raised ridge technology that fits the natural shape of your hands, so your grip lands in the same spot every time. It's subtle, but you feel it.

Golf's pride's been leading the grip game for over 75 years. 80% of tour pros play their grips, and not one of them is paid to do so. If you want more control, more feel, and a more repeatable swing, go get yourself a set. Performance is in your hands with Align Max from Golf Pride. Right now, listeners of the pod can get 20% off a full set of up to 13 swing grips and one putter grip at golf pride.com with code subpar 20 at checkout through August 31st. Now, back to Finn Ewing.
Starting point is 00:26:07 But y'all still have the house out of Pebble. We still. How many, by the way, how many Pebble Beach Proems have you played in, AT&T? I think 14. 14. 14. And how many times you made the cut? This is a lovely question.
Starting point is 00:26:22 I feel like he knows the answer to it. I think he does. I feel like he knows the answer. One. One cut made. Who did you make the cut with? Why would you lead him into that? That's the only one I ever made it.
Starting point is 00:26:35 Wow. I mean, it's great talent. Maybe you should be a little nicer. Great talent. Who else would you play? Who else would you miss cuts with? Cody. Sig.
Starting point is 00:26:46 Grayson Sig, for those. A.K.A. Sigfried. You like to call him. Quifie. Ryan Palmer Palmer R.P. Justin Leonard, right?
Starting point is 00:26:59 Oh, and Justin was the first one I played with. Yeah. One time I was playing with Palmer and I wasn't playing very well, which I didn't very often in that thing. And I hit a three wood. The ball went straight up in there. And I didn't, but I could have caught it.
Starting point is 00:27:16 Off a T? You popped it up? No, in the fairway. On 6th fairway at MPCC. Okay. straight up in there. I could have caught it. But you know, okay, so one time when we were playing there,
Starting point is 00:27:32 I'm coming off of, at Pebble Beach, I'm coming off of 15 green. And this reporter comes up. This guy's walking with a deal. And he goes, are you fan? I said, yeah. He says, well, I'm supposed to interview you. I said, right now? He said, yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:51 I said, okay. What are you going to talk about? So he said, I'm talking about Cotton Bowl. So he said, I'm an Aggie. I said, well, you know, we just had Johnny Mansell in there. And he broke every record we got. And so we talked about a bunch of stuff. And he goes, what's it like playing with Colt?
Starting point is 00:28:07 And I said, oh, my God. This is such bullshit. He was walking ahead of me. He was walking ahead of me. And I go, look at him. Look at him. And he says, what? I go, everything's jiggling on either side of him.
Starting point is 00:28:21 There's just crap jiggling. This happened. I believe this. It's jiggling everywhere. That was a great interview. What's the follow-up question after that? No wonder they didn't ask for any more questions or ever ask you back again. Yeah, that's the last, yeah, that may have been my last one.
Starting point is 00:28:36 Do you want to talk about your performance on the last toll when we were on the cut line as a team? I may have, I may have screwed it up. But Colty, I knew he would, I knew he'd cover me with a long par put. Of course. That's what he's there for. So we're playing. Blaine McCaffey used to say, what, you know, things that don't go far, dogs that chase cars and pros that putt for bars.
Starting point is 00:28:58 Yeah, not good. Yeah, it's bad. Yeah. So we're playing. Okay, first off, Mark, why don't you throw up a picture of the other professional in our group that week where we had this very special week where we made the cut at Pebble Beach Pro-in. But you made a lifelong friend that week.
Starting point is 00:29:13 If you want to turn around there, there's your guy. There's like twins. Well, am I supposed to tell this story right now? Yeah. Oh, yeah. I need this story. That's an embrace. Okay, sleep.
Starting point is 00:29:26 So real quick, so we get the pairings, okay? We have no idea who we're going to play with. And I see. I think you knew. No, I did not. Did you know? First of all, I never thought I'd be paired with VJ. Like, I mean, that's a major champion.
Starting point is 00:29:36 Vijay looks confused as fuck. Yeah. Who is this, dude? Hey, this is after we made up. This is Saturday. By the way, we've already played three days. So the draw comes out, and I see we're playing with VJ Singh and a gentleman named Shantanoo, who is a great dude.
Starting point is 00:29:52 Yeah. Great dude. And I'm like, I did remember Cyprus. Finn is the man, but Finn's got a lot of energy. Finn likes to talk a lot. Vij doesn't really like to talk a lot out there. So I'm just like, this could be an interesting three days.
Starting point is 00:30:03 So you meet each other on Thursday. It's Spyglass Hill. Okay. We're going off 10. So, well, first of all, I called Steve John and I said, hey, Steve, why would you put me? I've been coming out here a lot. Why would you put me with Vijay? He goes, because you're the only one that get along with him.
Starting point is 00:30:23 up and enjoy it or don't play. He goes, Finn, you just go play. Go have fun. I said, okay, I'll just tuck my tail and go on. So we get to, we're on 10. I go up and I meet him. And, you know, he said hello, maybe. And so I thought, well, it's going to be a lot of fun. And I know he knew. So I thought, well, okay, so what am I going to do? So we play the first hole and we're standing on 11 T-box. I hit mine right down the middle. He hits his little. He hits his, little to the right, and I don't remember where you were. So we go, we go, we go down there, and it's a par five. So I'm just going to hit a seven iron. Your favorite club. And he's over on the right. And his caddy couldn't come, so he had his trainer or somebody. And they're standing over there
Starting point is 00:31:11 the right. And I skull a seven iron. And I'm telling you, they were about four inches apart. And my ball went between them. And then it started bouncing around. in there off of them. Off the bag. Off the bag. Went between them and hit the bag. And hit the bag. I like that you called a skull, by the way.
Starting point is 00:31:31 Was it a huzzle? It was shank. How high up was it? No, it wasn't a shake. It was a skull. It was hauling ass. Skull shank. It was moving.
Starting point is 00:31:40 But, I mean, shoulder high to Vijay. So I get up there. And I go, hey, Vijay, did you see a tideless two come through here? And he looked at me and I go, I guess not. And so anyway, we, we, we, We play the hole, and I part of the hole. So I take my ball out of the deal, and he's ahead of me walking. And so I run up next to him, and I go, VJ, I part that hole.
Starting point is 00:32:07 And if you had gotten your ass out of the way, I'd have birdie that son of a bit. And from then on, we are tight, baby. And his girlfriend even came out to the golf course the next day and said, Are you fan? I said, yes. She goes, I need to meet you because he loves you and he doesn't love anybody. Yeah, you're the first guy he's ever spoke a-o-you-old. You're the first human he ever loved.
Starting point is 00:32:30 Finn called him Fijian all week and her Miss Fijian. I can't believe it didn't go better than it actually did. But we actually did have a good three days. But we got to tell the story about the last hole. This picture, though, is just... I got one for that. This is Saturday before we played several... No, that's Friday.
Starting point is 00:32:50 That same year at the Byron, Nelson is when we were at the OTPC. He's down on the practice green, putting green, and I'm up on those sidewalks, you know, where you can drive the car, something down back up there. And so I'm walking and I see him down there. And I go, Vigian! And he goes, go away. Go away.
Starting point is 00:33:14 He sneaked. He kind of does love you, though, actually, because he does randomly ask about you when I see him. But so we're playing, and we're on the ninth-thold MP. C, the last hole. And Randy's out there following us. First off, this dude thinks he's VJ, like getting ready for the AT&T. He plays golf once a month maybe. Well, he gets to AT&T.
Starting point is 00:33:33 He thinks he's got to play 18 holes and hit balls all day every day. And you're not the youngest person in the field, no offense. But we get to the ninth hole. That's the same one called for. I don't even know why he would throw that at me. That seems irrelevant to the story. So we get to the ninth old. Randy, family's all out there watching everything.
Starting point is 00:33:48 We are on the cut line. Okay. Ninth hole, he gets a stroke. Par three. 160 yards for him. Oh, yeah. Great hole. Yeah, big old tier in the middle of the green.
Starting point is 00:33:59 I think it was more than 160 yards. Not for you. So we're playing back there. Maybe none. And I'm actually going along, all right. I hit a four iron, hits the tier, comes back down to the bottom. I'm like, no problem. I'm going to make the cut.
Starting point is 00:34:10 Finns can make four. It's 160 yards. Pulls it long left. Chunk. No. Blade. No. Yes.
Starting point is 00:34:20 Here's what happened. Tell me the truth. Okay. So I'm long left. That's true. And I chunk it and it barely makes it to the green. I mean, like the fringe. And I'm going, well.
Starting point is 00:34:32 And so Colton, now think about this. Colton, Randy, said, why didn't you hit it harder? I'm going, well, it's not like I wasn't trying to. I don't think we were talking to you because you were so damn nervous. No, I wasn't nervous. So then I get up there and I'm thinking, oh, man, I got this. I'm going to knock this thing in. It's like probably from there, what, 30 feet?
Starting point is 00:34:53 Yeah. And so I hit it. We need two putts to make the cut. I hit it, I hit it about 15 feet. Okay. So I'm 15 feet short and I'm going, man, I'll tell you what. I'm more worried about them than I am making this put. So I get up there and I missed it.
Starting point is 00:35:11 Five for four. And then stupid. Stupid makes it from 40? No. I had like 40 feet. I ran at eight feet by and had to make it coming back for us to make the cut. And which it went in, luckily. You know, you're a pro.
Starting point is 00:35:26 You're supposed to do. You're a car dealer. All you got to do is make four for three from 160 yards. You got to check and see where he's at mentally. You know what I mean? See if you can carry a team. Listen to this. Listen to this week he had, okay.
Starting point is 00:35:35 He gets three days with Vijay, makes his only cut ever at AT&T, Petwell Beach, and Sunday we get paired with Sean O'Hare. Oh, man. You just checking all the whole list. Oh, you know what I did is. Sean is special. So we go, we're going off 10. So they hit their T-balls.
Starting point is 00:35:52 And then we were with... The CEO Franklin Templeton. Yes. I can't remember his name. Mr. Templeton. Johnson. Okay. Steve Johnson.
Starting point is 00:36:02 So we go up, so we're going to hit our balls. So, I mean, Steve's going to, he hit first. And so Sean comes up right next to me. And I don't even look over at him. I go, you think I can feather it over those bunkers? and he doesn't say anything. And I said, Sean, I asked you a question. He goes, no!
Starting point is 00:36:24 I said, well, you don't have to say it like that. Oh, Sean. Yeah, he just met me, dude. Yeah. We're going to take a quick break from our interview with Finn Ewing and tell you about the USGA because golf is more than just a game. It's a community.
Starting point is 00:36:36 And whether you're playing a casual round with friends or grinding in a match that's going to the 18th hole, having a handicap index is your key to playing on a level field. With a handicap index, you can track your progress and challenge yourself against golfers of all skill levels, no matter where you play. So why wait? True golfers have a handicap index.
Starting point is 00:36:53 Sign up today at usgia.org slash get a handicap. Now back to Fenewing. Well, you mentioned playing with Grace and Sig there as well. We have a special pitcher of y'all. I just want you to, if you had to describe this picture, okay, where you and Grace and Sig, who Grace and Sig might be the shortest person on the PJ tour as far as height that goes.
Starting point is 00:37:15 And you combine. I understand. Yes. But this is Paul Gasol. Oh, yeah. NBA champion right here. If you were going to describe that picture, what would you say? Man, it could be a, it sure could.
Starting point is 00:37:31 Do you look like maybe something you look down on in the shower? I'm the left one and he's the right one. Looks like take your kid to work day. It does. Look at my little boys here. Look at your purple sweater. I told, I told Sig, I said, I don't know who that guy is. We're getting our picture taken with him.
Starting point is 00:37:47 You didn't even know who he was. No, I had no idea. Oh, that's beautiful. Oh, that's good. But how much fun do you have out there playing in that? You know, I have so much fun. You know, what they let me do is pick who I'm going to play with as long as it's somebody like you that nobody gives a shit. That's what.
Starting point is 00:38:09 But so I get, if I get you or Sig or Keith or, I mean, Palmer, Cody, Justin. I mean, those are fun. You know, I would not want to be out there with a guy I didn't know or that he didn't want to be there or whatever. I think Steve John would probably want you to not be with somebody you didn't know either. Yeah, because I guarantee you, I would wear them out. Are you still doing it?
Starting point is 00:38:35 No. You know, why not? You get back in the mix, get you one of these Dallas kids. There's a hundred of them. This is my last year there. they're not so when they went to an elevated deal they what so they went to two courses two courses and it's just two days now for the end's two days and there's really no winner i don't think there's a winner well the people that won this year would argue is it the same cost to do it now as it was before
Starting point is 00:39:03 well it's elevated it's more it's more because it's signature i've been told it's more because it's elevated or whatever that's a hell of the deal you get less golf you're not you're not getting paired with me though you're getting a signature event yeah you're getting a But still, damn. But you, I mean, you obviously have a lot of great memories. You do a lot of great things out there as well. The Carmel Cup, which you've done for the college event, is the most ridiculous college tournament of all time.
Starting point is 00:39:27 I'm so jealous you started out after I was gone. You know, do y'all remember R.J. Harper? Yes. I know you do. Did you know R.J. Harper? No, sir. Well, he was over all the golf, and he was a dear friend of ours. And so he came to me one day and he said, you know,
Starting point is 00:39:43 business was tough. It was really bad out there. And he said, if you will give me 25 grand, then I'll let, right now, I'll let you play in the tournament. Probably I.
Starting point is 00:40:01 But not for free. But I'll let you play in the tournament. And then all you have to do, you can work it off. You know, you can go, you got $25,000. credit, but you have to use it this year. And I said, okay.
Starting point is 00:40:17 So then I went home and I thought, how am I going to spend $25,000 out there? Buy a couple of drinks. I just say buy two cocktails in the tap for a two. I was sitting there going, you know, if I'm a day. So I went to Harper and I said, okay, Harper, this is what I want to do. So Finley was at Tech. Charty was going, was just starting at, was just going to start at, was just going to
Starting point is 00:40:42 start at Vanderbilt. So my kids played one played at Vanderbilt, one played at Texas Tech. So I said, I want to have a college golf tournament. I'm just going to have these two teams play each other. And then that took up to 25. Quickly. And so it was really cool. And so I thought, well, I'm going to go to four.
Starting point is 00:41:04 So the next year, we went to four. Now that deal was over. But so now we go to four. and A&M won. And then I thought, I'm going to eight. And so we went to eight. And so after the fourth or fifth year, we had the number one strength of field
Starting point is 00:41:23 and the number one tournament in college golf. It was so cool. Well, just not to toot your horn or anything here, but... Toot it. Yeah, these... Toot my horn. I mean, basically all they had to do is get there, if I'm correct about this, right?
Starting point is 00:41:36 That's not necessarily true, Colty. Oh, you took care of that part, too? Okay, so here's... Oh. So here's what the deal was. I wanted... I wanted them all to eight schools to come. The coaches had to bring their wives or their girlfriends.
Starting point is 00:42:00 Or both. Or both. And then their wives and girlfriends got a free day at the spa. Took some arm twisted, I'm sure. Yeah. I got the caddies, bibs, name on the back, standard bears. Damn. All that.
Starting point is 00:42:24 And they're going, but we don't really usually do this. I don't get what you usually do. This is the way, this is how I'm going to do it. I want this to be first class. This is going to be really cool. And the coaches all got to be real close, and their wives got to be, because they were, you know, getting their nails done together or whatever. So it turned out to be the coolest thing.
Starting point is 00:42:48 And then Charity switched to the girls. So I got to call all the guys and go, hey, I hate to tell you all this. There's been an accident. Y'all aren't coming back. We're bringing the girls next year. They go, why? Well, Charty's coaching the girls. I'm not going to do the guys in my son's coaching something else.
Starting point is 00:43:09 So Charlie's youngest son is the head coach for the Mississippi State. Oh, I'm sorry. I thought. Yeah. No, I did know that. I don't think everyone knows that. I don't think our listeners knew that. I don't even know who the hell you are.
Starting point is 00:43:21 You know, they would like to, I'd like to tell y'all that my son coaches Mississippi State girls golf. And he won SECs two years ago. Never happened. He's been to nationals. The last four years in a row, it's never happened. And he's been, he made. top 15 the last three years never happened.
Starting point is 00:43:43 Damn, good genetics. Shut on that. Yeah, maybe that wife he married, maybe that has a little something to with her helping him out a little bit because I know you're not giving him any golf knowledge. He married a tour pro, Allie MacDonald, and they are
Starting point is 00:43:56 probably out of the doctor's office right now and she's going to have a baby. We're hoping in the next week. Congratulations on that. But that tournament, seriously, though. I mean, they come out there, they stay at the lodge. Three days at Pebble? Okay, so we were three days at Pebble.
Starting point is 00:44:16 So what we had to do was play Spyglass and Pebble. So when we played Spyglass, they were looking at it for the first time ever. Because you can only do one practice round. So I said, RJ, I need four rounds at Pebble. He said, Jesus can't get four rounds at Pebble. And I said, RJ, I want four rounds at Pebble. You can't fin I'm not going to do it. He said, R.J., I got to have four rounds.
Starting point is 00:44:41 I just stayed on his ass. I mean, I said, I got to have four rounds at Pebble. Not going to do it. So the next year, they send me my stuff, you know, all the rooms and tea times and all that stuff. And I'm looking for the other piece of paper. There doesn't say spyglass anywhere. I got four rounds at Pebble. And nobody has four rounds at Pebble except for like a U.S. Open.
Starting point is 00:45:05 Yeah, the tournament. AT&T. The Carmel Cup does. That's unbelievable. I mean, that's such a cool deal for college. How did you pick the eight? How did you decide which eight? Well, there's got to be some like potential bribery going on for this.
Starting point is 00:45:19 So there's, you know, two were for sure was Tech and Vanderbilt. And then I just wanted their friends, those coaches friends, because I wanted everybody to get along. And so all the coaches came to, the two coaches. from Vanderbilt and tech came to me and said, look, we want to swap everybody out every year because this is a great recruiting tool. There's eight of us that can use it. We want to just have two of us that can use it. And I said, well, no, I'm not going to do it.
Starting point is 00:45:51 Smart. I want all the, I like the, we got this great thing going. We had a champions dinner. So whoever wanted the year before, it's his dinner, and he gets picked whatever he wants to eat. And, but the, but if, if, if somebody won the national championship, that trumped the Carmel Cup, then they were the, but it was. And you had one, one of your most recent ones, Rose Zang, I believe, broke the women's course record at the Caramel Cup.
Starting point is 00:46:23 Texas Tech had a guy named Hurley Long. Uh-huh. He broke. He shot 61 to break the record. Was. Yeah. It's gone. Yeah, it is now.
Starting point is 00:46:37 Yeah. But it was there for about eight years. And so they called me off wherever I was. Am I staying on track or am I offbeat? Who cares? No, you're doing it. Perfect. So I'm on six green up top.
Starting point is 00:46:55 And they say, you need to come over here hardly long. If he birdies 16, 17, and 18, he's going to shoot 61. He'll have a course record. I go, holy crap. So I go over to 16. I get there. He sings a long put for bird for bird. He goes to 17.
Starting point is 00:47:16 You know, 17, I can't remember, but I mean, I think he's sunk like a 40-footer. And he goes to 18, and he hits it right down the middle. And then, so he's standing out there, and he's going back and forth with clubs and stuff. And he takes this iron, and he kind of chunks it. And it stops to the right about maybe 15 yards shy of that bunker with the tree up there and all that. So I'm going, so he's got to keep this low and stop it. And he's short-sighted. He's got like, you know, the pen is probably, you know, five yards on.
Starting point is 00:47:55 Well, he gets up there and he runs it by about eight feet, drains it coming back, 61. And so he comes off and I go, Harley, do you know what you've done? And he goes, well, somebody said, I shot the course record. Did you? I'm sure it did. You know, there's pretty good players played here in their lives. That's a few. Yep.
Starting point is 00:48:13 And so he comes off. And so I call Eric Lippert is the pro out there. I said, Lippert, this guy just shot 61. He goes, well, you know, I said, it's the course record. He goes, yeah, but we got to check some stuff. I said, well, check it quick. Because this guy, I mean, this was, I mean, that's a special thing. That's really cool.
Starting point is 00:48:36 So he comes back and he goes, well, we're not sure that he got it. He said, you know, he played on the day where it was regular play. I said, but it wasn't lift clean and place or anything. It was he played it just like he played it from the backtees and he. Yeah, it counts. Backtees, it counts. He goes, well, we're trying to, our historians are going to get back with us. And I said, well, you have them call me.
Starting point is 00:49:01 I'll talk to your historians because don't do this to this child. This child played his ass off today. Don't do this. He said, we won't. So then they said, well, it looks like he's not going to get it. And I said, I'm, you know, I, this is the longest course record story ever. I said, how on earth is he not going to get it? And so then finally, they come over to practice tea and they bring him a flag and said he.
Starting point is 00:49:25 Oh, nice. And then from then on, on television and everything, never mentioned his name. Oh. They'd say Tom Kite and David Duvall. Really? Yeah. They didn't count inches. And then finally the day that that guy broke it.
Starting point is 00:49:40 Yeah, Windham. Like last year. Yeah. Was this year? Two years ago. Two years ago. When Wyndham broke it, they said he broke it. Hurley Long had it.
Starting point is 00:49:47 And then they gave him credit because he was, they were like going, phew. And now that he's out, now that he's not the court's record, or we're giving him the little props. You can thank Jim Nance for that one. Yeah, Nance made sure that happened. I think he probably shot 61 and faster than you just told that story, though. Hey, now. I think that was a good story. I like that.
Starting point is 00:50:06 Hey, now, fan. That's talking about... Hey, now, fan. Don't take that. Please don't listen to that. Don't take that. So I brought up Rose. I got to take the course record
Starting point is 00:50:13 and turn into a hurriedly long story. Then Rose broke it, and we had both course records in my tournament. 63, I believe. 63. 63 for women. 60 now for men. Pretty damn good golf.
Starting point is 00:50:27 Look at you. Just creating champions. Just creating champions. You turn Scotty Sheffles. Champines. You turn Scotty Sheffler into a player he is with your junior. Jordan, I got to imagine you molded him a little bit. Who?
Starting point is 00:50:37 Spief. Oh, you've had a local guy down there. I've heard of him. Yeah. Before we get back to Finn Ewing, a quick note from Enterprise Mobility. Starting point is 00:51:20 He was in the waiting room for it when every one of my kids was born. All through them. He's the reason I met you. So Randy, I'm sorry. But tell us a little bit about your relationship with him. And you got any good Randy Smith stories you can? share with us? God, Randy. Oh, my gosh. You know, and I, you chime in here. He's either broke or hurt or replaced, just almost everything on his body. Not financially broke, just his body's broke.
Starting point is 00:51:54 No, his body's broken. Yeah, broken. He's, he's had shoulder, I think both, at least once. He's had hip. I think both. He's been under the knife more than the Kardashians. He put his hand into a lawnmower. Yeah, that's true. I said, man, I'll tell you what. Randy, your fingers are pretty ugly though.
Starting point is 00:52:16 What would have happened? Oh, it's a lawnmower. I said, oh, well, who cares? A lawnmower. That's why I don't mow the lawn, dude. It's too dangerous. You know, he's probably the nicest guy anywhere. he takes care of, you know, he took care of you.
Starting point is 00:52:33 He's been teaching, you know, the reason I gave him a car, we, he would not charge me, Finley, or Charlie. You know, by the time Finley started going, I was going, Randy, you can't do this because we're going to need, you know, we need lessons. And he said, I'm not going to do it. So I gave him a car, and he took it. Damn right, he took it.
Starting point is 00:52:56 Yeah, he's not stupid. You ain't a dummy. He said, if I don't charge him, him long enough. He'll maybe he'll give me a car. Does he teach you different stuff than he teaches Scotty? Yeah. Don't you get that Scotty Schephler special. Does that cost more? Just say I want to swing it like this. Yeah. He wouldn't know. No, you know the good thing about Randy is he'll he'll just go with what you got. He doesn't have a method or anything like to. Obviously with you me and don't bring me into the same class as you. Oh, the the, the, the, you got to swing around.
Starting point is 00:53:26 You have to swing around, Colty. I've seen your action. Yeah. No, it's better. right now. You actually did play pretty good when we played at PT the other day. I did. I was told to ask you about the driving range at Royal Oaks Country Club and the Nicorette gum. Okay, so you called Randy. Okay, so Randy, every time I'd get a lesson with him, he'd take his Nicorette gum and he'd throw it at me. And so I'm down there one time and he's given this guy a lesson. He'd already given me one. He's given this L. Guy a lesson. He's screwing him up too. And he takes his Nicorette gum and he throws it down there. It rolls across the ground and the dirt and shit on, and I just ate it and swallowed it.
Starting point is 00:54:03 Oh, my God. What is wrong with you? I told him. For what reason? I said, throw another one. Go ahead. You ate his, by the way, doesn't the Nicorette gum like turned into like basically rock hard as soon as it? Yeah, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:54:16 I don't really know what Nicorette gum is, but I didn't even taste that because I didn't, it went straight down. Why did you do this, though? Just to freak him out so he wouldn't throw it at me again. He never threw it at me again. Okay. Fair enough. That's different. I hadn't heard that before.
Starting point is 00:54:30 Yeah, that's a horrendous story. Like, why would you do that? Dirt covered piece of someone else's Nicorat? And then, but it didn't affect me. I'm fine, I'm fine. Everything's fine. What's a bit like for you, being as close with Randy and seeing Scotty do everything he's done? You know.
Starting point is 00:54:50 Other than giving him a shitty car or making him buy one. At this stage of Randy's career, I mean, I don't know how you could script it any better. he you know he doesn't want you know he didn't want to be teaching 50 people he's got i mean i guess he got uh woodland back he got gary and he got um he's got sheffler and then he's got palmer and i don't know if he has any more and you know i don't really i haven't really been playing that much but finley and i are going to go over and have a lesson with him together we won't go over there and because every time i have a lesson with randy people start gathering around because we're yelling at each other and fighting and all this stuff.
Starting point is 00:55:33 Todd Harbor always comes over there and everybody comes around and it's just fun going over there. You don't know who's going to be there. And he's just one of the finest people I've ever met. I just love him. And I feel like he's started like he's had great players before, right? Like Justin and Ryan Palmer have been great. But like Scotty doing what he's doing now, I feel like he's finally getting like his recognition, even though I know he doesn't give, it gives zero shits about that, being recognized to all that.
Starting point is 00:55:58 But, like, he's been good for so long. It's nice to see him get some, you know, the accolades and the praise. I mean, Schaeffler is tiger-esque, I think. I mean, don't you? I mean, the numbers would say, yeah. Yeah, I mean, the rest of it has to be seen, but. No, he's, it's phenomenal. We always know he's going to be good.
Starting point is 00:56:16 Scottie Sheffler's not going to get in some of the crap tiger did. He might, you know, break a leg or something, but he's not going to be, he can get into all that other stuff. You would, yeah. Breaks, it. breaks car windows. You know, you've got a bit of an anger problem, it sounds like. But you know what?
Starting point is 00:56:31 If you're that good, you know, the stupid car dear, just fix it for him. Yeah. Well, by the way, he drove a car with like 350,000 miles on it until he finally decided to come about. You really must have been trying to screw him if he wouldn't come by a car from you. So, you know, the tournament pressing trails, he won three cars. And he never came and got him. So I said, okay, chef, get in here. So he comes in there.
Starting point is 00:56:52 And I give him to Claythorne or salesman. And I said, okay, look, he needs to buy a car. He was either getting ready to get married or was just barely married. So he comes in and so they go off. You know, I said, you got $80,000 credit or something like that on, you know, all these cars. No, it was two cars. It was two cars. So a month goes by and I thought, well, you, I hadn't really heard anything.
Starting point is 00:57:22 So I go to play and I said, hey, what Schaeffler do? he hasn't done anything yet he's looking at this used car over here i said he's looking at what he's looking at use car i said and i think i don't know what year this was but he'd just won the masters the first one 22 they broke and i'm going i called him and i go shephler no i'm not selling you a use car you you that's your wife i mean you're she's not going to be your wife long but She's your wife right now. And so he bought her a new one. Oh, what a guy.
Starting point is 00:58:00 What a guy. He had two cars for free built up, but he never went and was like, oh, I'll go collect on that. And, you know, he won the, whatever, the shootout or something one time, that's five grand or something like that. He'd give that back to charity.
Starting point is 00:58:15 He just, he's just the, I didn't think there'd ever be anybody nicer than Ben Crenshaw on tour, and I don't know that he's nicer, but they're the same. They're at least the same. That's awesome. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:27 He's a different kind of superstar. Have you been to Press and Trail, Sleece? No. I've not played, I've not played Preston Trail. Awesome plays. Can you go with me? Fantastic. I would love to.
Starting point is 00:58:35 You should. Anytime you want. Will you go without him? You tell him, of course. Yeah. Even better. Are you going to take him in the men's locker room and show him your hot tub with the flotation device?
Starting point is 00:58:44 You got a little tub? Baker Montgomery is a guy, is a member out there. And so he went out, he got this little floaty about this. about this round, but it looks like, it looks just like one that would be on a boat that is, like a brown. Like a light preserver thing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:03 Yeah, it's a life preserver. It's got the things around it and it says the, and then on top it says Finn Ewing. And you put it in there by the hot tub. So this is Finn Ewing's floating device. Let's do an half feet deep. Yeah. And it's been there for years.
Starting point is 00:59:17 It's been there forever. It's been there forever. That's good. I like that. I want to talk music. Are we going to do that in E-9? I want to hear about this band. Or do you want to do it right now?
Starting point is 00:59:27 Sure. Or both. Yeah, let's, I mean, I feel a few things are going to come about this, but I know you've always said, like, apparently you heard from somebody that anyone can learn to sing. Learn to sing or learn to sing well. Like, I think anyone could, if you're capable of speaking, you can do it. I read this article that anybody can learn to sing.
Starting point is 00:59:47 Decent is what I took from it. And so I called this guy. named Bruce Wormouth. And I said, can you teach me to sing? And he goes, well, what's your goals? I said, well, if you can teach me to sing, I'm going to have a show at the Rustic over on Lemon and Central, you know where it is.
Starting point is 01:00:09 And Larry Gatlin's going to sing back up. Do you know who Larry Gatlin is? I do, yeah. You know Rudy. Yeah. Anyway, there's the Gatlin brothers. They're older country group. Okay.
Starting point is 01:00:21 So if you're 50, it's iffy whether you've heard of him. But after that, everybody does. So he goes, well, that's awful lofty. I don't think that'll happen, but I'd sure like to meet you because I don't know where you came up with all that. And he goes, well, how long have you been singing? I said, I just told you I'm wanting to learn. I never sung in the shower. Does that count?
Starting point is 01:00:46 You want to come in there with me? So I go to him. and can I make this is long can I go long I mean whatever you want it's your show I want to go okay so so I go out to him and he goes I sang everything from happy birthday to whatever and so he said yeah I think we can do this so I go home and I tell the family and they were so excited I mean they were so mad at me and so you know what I did I went to Bruce for a year and they did not know. I felt like I was having an affair with Bruce.
Starting point is 01:01:31 They never knew. And so I decided I was going to start trying to get into the rustic. So I'd emailed them and they would never email me back and everything. This girl's name was Kylie. So I go down there one day and I said, Kylie here? They said, yeah. She's in a meeting. I said, where, where's the meeting?
Starting point is 01:01:53 And she says, he's right there in the middle of the room right there. I said, which one is she? The one on the right? I said, okay, thanks. So I go down there and I sit at the table right next to where they were, and I turned my chair towards them. So I'm sitting there. And she goes, can I help you?
Starting point is 01:02:14 I said, I'd like for you too, but I don't know. I sent you 600 emails and you won't email me back. I have a band and I want to play here and I can fill this place up. And she goes, well, who are you? I said, well, I'm fan-ywing. And she goes, what's the name of your band? I'm going, I don't have a name. But we're good.
Starting point is 01:02:38 She goes, do you have a, what do you have a, what do you call it? Like a demo. A demo. I said, it's almost ready. And she goes, you know, you don't even have a name or, You just can't play here. And I go, I'm going to play here. I'm going to play here.
Starting point is 01:02:58 I promise you. And so I keep doing my thing, and I keep sending her email. She won't send her any back. And then she got promoted, and another girl took her place. So I'm going, baby, fresh meat. So I go down there, and her name was Sidney Cannon. And I go down, and this girl was awesome. And I found her, and I said,
Starting point is 01:03:20 My name's Finn Ewing, and I want to play here. And I got a band, and I had a name, it's Finn Ewing in the wrong direction, and I want to play here, and I'll fill this place up. And she goes, well, let me see. Let me see. I'll email you. I'll email you. I said, okay, I don't get an email, don't get an email, don't get an email.
Starting point is 01:03:41 And then finally about six weeks later, I get an email. I'm in a deer blind, a bow blind down in South Texas, and I get a email. It says, we want you to play. You're going to have to guarantee 50,000, you know, sales. Liquor, everything. I said, my drunk friend is going to. I mean, what are you talking about? I can't guarantee you that.
Starting point is 01:04:10 I said, okay, I'll do it. So she said, we need to have a meeting on this day. So I said, well, when I get home, I'll be there. So we go home. I go to the meeting and they say, okay, and I took my girl from work so she could, you know, know what we're going to do. And I said, man, this is great. This will be fun. I said, you know, I was going to go to Eddie Deans, but this is great.
Starting point is 01:04:34 And so I saw this look on their face, you know, kind of like. And then so Kylie is at this meeting too now. And she goes, Finn, we've been thinking about it. And really what we want you to do is guarantee us $25,000. I said, it's a shit out of 50, but I don't think either one will matter. And so we're talking. I get through, I get in my car, I'm going back to work, and she calls me back, and she goes, you know, look, you just guarantee us 10,000.
Starting point is 01:05:06 And so I'm thinking, why they keep going down? This is horrendous business. So I'm thinking, you know, right now is not the time to ask any questions. I got what I wanted, and let's just, so I did the show. and after the show I went down there I said okay girls the gigs up I want to know what in the hell happened what how did why did you all go from 50 to 30 to 20 to 10 to Zip but you know and they said well our owners found out that you wanted to play here from somebody I don't I've never found out who and they said that guy will fill this place up if if he if he can't sing a lick
Starting point is 01:05:47 there'll be people all over this place. Do not lose him. And they kept going down. They thought they were going to lose their job. So when we, 10 minutes before I go on, the lady, Kylie, comes back and she goes, we got two big issues. I said, what are they? She goes, it's 40 minutes to park your car, and we're out of beer.
Starting point is 01:06:13 I said, well, no, I didn't even gone on. I said, well, I'll tell y'all something. I got a lot of great friends, but I don't have any that are going to wait 40 minutes for anything, much less parking their car. And if you're out of beer, you better hope they go to wine or liquor because they'll leave. So how'd it go? They went and got it. We had 2,300, filled it up, one in, one out. It was awesome.
Starting point is 01:06:40 And so you hit the minimums? Oh, I mean, we were. We were way over 100. I mean. What'd you sing? What'd you open up with? Do you write all your songs or do you play covers? No.
Starting point is 01:06:51 We do all. I've written some songs now. We're going to hear one later. Yeah. So I've, but we did all covers then. I opened with the house is rocking. House comes a rocking. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:07 The house is rocking. Don't bother knocking. And then. Give him a Grammy. And then we did traveling band. a twist and shout. But now what we've done is I've added two people, I've added a girl that is an incredible singer,
Starting point is 01:07:28 Anna Gray Wishman, and then I've added a guy that used to be with the Eagles and he was with Leanne Rhymes. And he can play. What a treat for him. He plays every instrument with a string on it. No shit. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:07:46 He can play anything. So if you'd go to a show, you'd know. Sorry, I didn't get the tour schedule. You're friends. Yeah, I want you to go. I'll be there. I want to sing too. So, like, he'll do, Devil went down to Georgia.
Starting point is 01:07:58 He plays the shit out of that thing. So, like, for the Eagles, he played steel and fiddle. Sweet. Yeah, and now he's with you. And the Eagles are playing at the Sphere. Yeah, that's true. They're playing the Sphere next. You need to get the Sphere next.
Starting point is 01:08:13 You should book the Sphere. Let's find out who's going. Kylie of the sphere. He said, he's Kylie of the Spirit. He didn't want, he said, I'm off the road. I'm off the road. I'm off the road. I don't want to come see you. Do you, like, do you just do that kids' birthdays or do you do that real shows? I don't do kids' birthdays. You did Cody Grimmel's wedding. That's pretty cool. Cody Gribble's wedding. I did that. You know, we, we play a lot of country clubs. Country clubs are awesome because they, people, you know, it's easy to get the word out to them. And so, like, we, those are the best. Bracalla, I played Rollox and we didn't have a very good showing, but at, at, at, at Raulogs knows you. That's right. Well, Douse Country Club, man, I mean, we packed those places.
Starting point is 01:08:58 Who do you think, is there, give me a singer, a vocalist that you feel like resembles how you sound. Is there anyone out there? Are you one of one? The only one I've ever heard is Willie. Willie Nelson? Hell yeah. That's good.
Starting point is 01:09:13 I kind of nasally. Yeah. You got a little Willie in you. Yeah. Yeah, he does. And I, and you know, he's had a little Willie at him. I mean,
Starting point is 01:09:21 Bob, Bob. But you know, Willie's not a great singer, but. You got stage presence in ORA. You don't have to, you don't have the best vocals,
Starting point is 01:09:31 you know? ORA, that's what I see. What is, what's that? I don't know, just like something, you know, just an intangible.
Starting point is 01:09:36 Yeah. Orra? It just brings people into it. That's what I'm doing, aura. Yeah. Yeah. What else should we get into here?
Starting point is 01:09:42 You're a disaster. I got some, Do you want to talk about your boat driving skills in Montana? Yeah, I had a bad day out there one time. I was, so first of all, I don't drive a boat very well, and so it's their fault because they should have never rented it to me. And it was this little bit... Well, you had a driver's license.
Starting point is 01:10:04 It was a little bit of speedboat, and I get in this boat, and I'm, I mean, you could just, you know, you floored it and just kind of went, I mean, it was a fast little thing. So I get out there. and I may have got drunk. In fact, I did get drunk. And do you know Doug Hickok? Yeah. I go over to his house over on the far side,
Starting point is 01:10:29 and I'm talking to them. And so Hickok, I said, well, we're going to take the boat back. He goes, Finn. Do not go straight across the lake because there's rocks. I said, I know where the rocks are. He said, and I'm maybe a little further than just drunk. He goes, do not go across. He said, Finn, I know what you're going to do.
Starting point is 01:10:48 I said, no, no, Hickok, I don't let the clothes fool you. I know where I'm going. Just leave me alone. He goes, okay, well, I go straight across there, and I hit those rocks. And, I mean, it sounded like a bomb going off underneath this thing. I'll be the, so I broke something on it. And so now the boat will only go like this. I went back five miles an hour like this all the way into the deal.
Starting point is 01:11:14 I'm going, man, I hate to go in here. everybody's going to see me coming in there with a boat like this. And guys said, what happened? I said, man, I don't know. But check it out. If I broke something, let me know. And they called me back and they said, looks good. And I said, thank you.
Starting point is 01:11:32 Looks good. They won't even sit straight. Yeah. Oh, my gosh. So that day was, so I wrecked a boat. And then I gave Beth a boat for a 60th birthday. I hit another boat with it. And then the other one was two.
Starting point is 01:11:49 See, I only wrecked two boats. Okay. I wrecked a car. So a Yukon, we're going to the place in there where the live music was. And so when we come out, I'm coming, I, no, no, we were going in. So I come in, I'm going a lot like this,
Starting point is 01:12:09 and I hit this guy's car. But I get out and I look and, it's, Gail was with me. And I said, well, there's no, there's no scratch or anything. So I'm going, man, this is, it's all good. So the next day, I'm at the golf course in town, and I parked there, and I come out, and that car is parked like this in front of, in back of my car, so I can't get it out. Found your ass.
Starting point is 01:12:33 And this guy comes out of there, and he looked, I was going, oh, my God, this guy is going to beat me like a, oh, my gosh. He goes, are you fan of it? I said, yeah, he goes. I'm thinking about kicking your ass. I said, well, will you, will you hold that thought? Because I'm, man, it would hurt. He goes, you wrecked my car.
Starting point is 01:12:55 I said, no, I did. I said, I looked, I did scrape it, but I didn't see anything on there. I didn't see it. He goes, well, look, you know, looked over there, and there's this deal there. And I said, are you sure that's me? I said, I didn't think I did anything. I would have never, I'm a car dealer. I don't care.
Starting point is 01:13:10 He said, I don't give a shit what you do for a living. And he went, I mean, I thought I'm getting ready to go down right here. And he could have done it too. I think his son could have done it. So I'm going, oh my gosh. So I said, look, you give me two estimates. Then I'll pay him. One.
Starting point is 01:13:35 Just please don't beat my ass. But just don't beat me. And he said, okay, get me your number. I gave him all my stuff. and he said, okay, so he sent me two deals, and I paid him. How do you find you? Police. Well, see, somebody, how do they know who?
Starting point is 01:13:53 Well, somebody was walking by and saw me and wrote it down. Sounds like a rap. Just left him up. Yeah, just left him a note. Okay. You got out of it unscathed, though. Yeah. Good for you.
Starting point is 01:14:07 Yeah, it was like three grand. I'll pay him ten. Not that bad. Hold that thought. Hold that thought real quick. Yeah. Well, I know what you would want to be. We can get to the United here.
Starting point is 01:14:17 I know what you would want to be if you weren't a car dealer. You're not in anything anymore. But he already is that. Yeah, you're a singer. They're a rock star. Yeah. So if you couldn't be a car dealer or a singer, what would you be? I'd want to be a golf pro like you.
Starting point is 01:14:31 I'm not a golf pro anymore. That's what I meant like you. Yeah, exactly. You want to sit here and talk. I'd be want to do podcasts. No, if I wasn't going to do a, if I wasn't going to do a, if I wasn't You know, maybe a, no, I wouldn't want to be a pro-gras. Because if you're not in the top 10, man, that's rough.
Starting point is 01:14:53 Yeah, these tournaments nowadays, you finish 20th. You make like 250 grand. It's pretty rough. And I got to say, you got a pretty good gig right now. Yeah. Yeah, I think there's a lot of pros out there. I would swap with you real quick. I want to be car dealers.
Starting point is 01:15:04 Yeah. Yeah. You know? Car dealers are, I mean, that's what, and there's a lot of, there can be a lot of damage in there. We're going to get to the damage on the card here in a little bit. Okay. I'm going to ask you this one.
Starting point is 01:15:17 I'm going to change it up. This is we call asking for a friend. So someone that you know submitted this question. I'm going to ask you a question. See if you can guess who the person is that submitted it. Okay. I promise y'all know. Okay.
Starting point is 01:15:28 Are you, there it goes, are you the smallest, slowest person to ever be inducted into a football Hall of Fame? Yes. But who asked it? And that, okay. I think you're right on the yes. Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame. Frost?
Starting point is 01:15:45 There can only be three people. Okay. That's probably Charlie, but it's either Charlie, Dewer, or Finley. Actually, no. None of the above.
Starting point is 01:16:00 That was your boy, Keith Mitchell. Quiffy. Quiffy. Chiminging in. Can you imagine he would say something like that? Oh, my gosh. Sounds like jealousy to me. I think it is, too.
Starting point is 01:16:13 I think, you know what? he's done one good thing in his life. He married Claire. Is she good looking or what? She's awesome. And she's sweet. They were staying at our house one time during the tournament. And this was their first time where she traveled with him.
Starting point is 01:16:30 And she goes, I quit my job. So I could go out with him at night and go to three different dinners and all these things. When I get back, I'm going to get my job back. He's a social butterfly. He's got a badger. I bet you he didn't get you a TV as a. a thank you gift. No, no, but you did.
Starting point is 01:16:47 Damn right. Dang right. But it just happened to it was in your room. Staying at his house out at Pebble. Beautiful house. Overlooks the water. Massive house, shocking. In my room, you know,
Starting point is 01:16:59 want to just go up there and chill at night. This TV, you had to go up and turn the dial on. What year do you think that TV was? I mean, 1950? I mean, you had never, you never, y'all, I mean, I can't. So I went to Best Buy. I remember back in the day and you see him. on like old movies where he had to go, I mean, imagine that.
Starting point is 01:17:17 I went to Best Buy and bought a TV and propped it up on top of it. Yeah. Probably still there, isn't it? Yeah. All right, you're welcome. Next one. How would your son Charlie rate your caddying skills at the Texas, Oklahoma golf tournament back when he was six? By the way, did you ever play in the T-O?
Starting point is 01:17:34 No. Oh, great tournament. Yeah. So you caddied for Charlie. Charlie, to say that he had a bad temper. is not covering it. So we are playing at the T.O. And we're on the first, no, we're on the third hole.
Starting point is 01:17:57 And so there's water down there, so he's going to hit a three wood. He hits it straight up in there. It drops in the family. It just like me. And it dropped right there. And he didn't throw a shoe yet. he was mad but he didn't he didn't we're playing with these other guys and they have their grandparents and their parents and all their shit with and so i'm going look we're fine just hit a three wood
Starting point is 01:18:24 right down there like we were going to do so he does he hits it right down where he's going to do so we go down to the there's a there's uh his ball is like 20 yards to the water and the the flag is like 70 yards so he's got to hit it over the water and you know he's fine so these guys I'll hit it right. They're all way over there and their grandparents and everybody's looking for that ball. And I said, we're not going to looking for anybody's ball. We're, look, we're here. We're doing this. So I said, well, look, Charlie, go ahead and hit your ball on the green. And then let's just walk up there and then we'll just wait for them to come. So he lays the grass over it and it grows right in the water. And he takes this wedge and he
Starting point is 01:19:07 slings it and it hits me in the shins. Oh, shit. And I mean, I am like, I'm I mean, my eyes are watering. I mean, it hurts so bad, and I got him by his shoulders, and I'm shaking him. And I look over, and all those people are looking at me because I'm mad at him because he had a bad shot. Oh, they didn't see the shin part. Yeah. And I looked over there, and they're doing it, and I thought, to hell with them. Oh, my gosh.
Starting point is 01:19:38 Those people, I can't believe somebody they didn't call the police. Yeah, and somehow you still want Father of the Year. in 2007. I guess they didn't talk to those people. I'm, I'm, I was father, oh, I was father of the year. Every one of my kids. The second father of the year in Plano. Like, what is, who picks that? How is that even a thing?
Starting point is 01:19:55 In Dallas, who votes on that? All the, all the, all the, all the, my three kids said, they sure didn't ask us. Yeah, they didn't talk to them. They didn't ask us. Oh, Texas is a year in a whole town. That seems like a fairly subjective thing. But, hey, props you. Any idea.
Starting point is 01:20:11 You want it. You want it. Yeah, yeah. It was a landslide. All right, we go back to AT&T, Pebble Beach. Yeah, I went out of off the beaten path. Playing with Justin Leonard. I was told you were so nervous playing with him.
Starting point is 01:20:24 You couldn't even get the ball on the tee. Okay. So, where, and I was nervous. I don't really get nervous playing golf anymore. I don't really get nervous doing anything anymore. But that day, I was nervous as hell. And they knew it. And Jasper, he was just, he was just, he was just, he was.
Starting point is 01:20:42 so excited. So I'm, so he gets a T and he scrapes it on the sidewalk where it doesn't have makes it dead flat. So I'm getting ready to go up. I mean he waits until I'm going to tee up my ball. He goes here. This is a specialty. I want you to look. Look, we're going to have fun this this year. You just go ahead and do it. Come on. So he takes my T. I get this T and I get up there and I tee it up like this, you know, and I get up like and I look down. It's an okay way I mean, you know, I'm going to say I did it five times. You couldn't figure out that it wasn't just. I couldn't figure.
Starting point is 01:21:20 I mean, who looks to see if there's a lip on their tea? If he handed it to you right before he went up there, maybe you figure something else up. No, I wasn't even thinking about it. And when I look over and he and Randy are standing over there and they are dying laughing, I went. Well, I'd believe it too. You're a fidgety little fella. Oh, oh. That was...
Starting point is 01:21:44 I was told he didn't tell you for a couple of years. No, he didn't. Yeah. No, no, no, no. You didn't know that it was flat. No, but, well, you know, I don't remember if he didn't tell me. I think he did tell me because they were over there laughing. He got your ass.
Starting point is 01:21:59 That's all we know. No, he got me. Oh, speaking of Pebble. You ever been caught on a hot, hot mic there at Pebble Beach? Say anything maybe you should? Oh. What did you do, Finley? Oh.
Starting point is 01:22:10 I can't tell you. I can tell you. Okay, so we get to 17 at Pebble, and I had a six iron, and I hit it in the building over there. It went right in the window. One of those windows, and it's like, bam, bam, bam. And I'm going, oh boy, I hope there was nobody dead down there. So we walked down there and I said, did anybody? And then here it comes out, fly it out.
Starting point is 01:22:48 So I get it and I did whatever you're supposed to do, which I don't even know what you do with that. So I chip it up and it was a bad chip. And then I chipped it again. That was a bad one. And then I, you know, so I'm thinking, come on, Sig, play golf. So Sig gets up there and makes a long, a long putt for par. And we're standing there on the back of the, by the tower, and we're facing this way. So I'm in the middle, and Finley's over here, and Sig's over here.
Starting point is 01:23:19 And I said something really terrible. And Sid goes, look at your right foot. And I look down. And there's one of those furry microphones like that one up there. And I go, oh. And Finley goes, oh, oh, daw. We won't make you say what you said. I can't.
Starting point is 01:23:40 You're not going to, you can't, you'll never finish this tournament. He goes, in, you know, it's got that green stuff that goes all the way around. He goes inside there and he calls one of his base and goes, are you watching us? And he goes, yeah. He said, did you see my dad? He goes, I saw y'all put out, yeah. He goes, did you? You didn't hear anything, did you?
Starting point is 01:23:59 And he goes, oh, hallelujah. Trust me, somebody heard. Somebody heard. They all, they hear everything. You need to watch your mouth out there on the golf course. We'll get back to that in a second, by the way. Oh, oh. got more coming.
Starting point is 01:24:10 Okay. All right, next one. Of all the people, you've been nice enough to give cars to, who has crashed them the most or treated him like shit the most? Motown. Yeah. Mike Madonna. Mike Medano.
Starting point is 01:24:24 I gave him 14 cars and he only wrecked 14 of them. Is that right? Yeah. He told me, he's like, dude, I wrecked the shit out of his cars. I didn't know it's 14 for 14. And, you know, one of them, he was going to a hockey game and he goes, he parked. And I don't really know where they parked. Do you know where they park?
Starting point is 01:24:39 Under the stadium there. Okay. Well, he was going up to go under it or whatever. He was out and he was late and he went, or I don't know how it happened, but he left it in neutral and it rolled back out in the street. And his car's coming and just hammers it. How's he's so dumb? He just leaves his shit in neutral.
Starting point is 01:24:59 But you got to know, do you know, Mom? Real well, yeah. Yeah. Well, then you know how he can do. Yeah. Yeah, I do. But, I mean, I figured he could drive a car. He, oh, God.
Starting point is 01:25:08 He's got a lot going on upstairs, you know what I mean? Mo is the greatest. He's all time. He's all time. He told me, he's like, ask him, he's like, I for sure wrecked the most car. I didn't know it was 14. He also said he used to, he would sit on the bench at a hockey game and you'd be down there. And he'd just like, I'd just flip him off the whole game.
Starting point is 01:25:25 Okay, so you know what he does to me? I'm down there one. This friend of mine, Bray Patton, has had some seats right on the glass. And then the next seat over is whoever the hockey guy. is that's sitting there. The last seat on the bench, yeah. That's seat on the bench. So, Mo would come around there.
Starting point is 01:25:43 You know, of course, like, B-Mo and, like, Hull and those guys, they didn't, they were, they were thinking hockey. Motown's, he's, he's like going, do you see the blonde sitting on the sixth row in the, you know, I'm going, how does he know that? So he'd come over, he came over one time. And so he had one of those smelling things. Smellin sauce. And he, you know, you have to.
Starting point is 01:26:07 He threw it over the glass. He threw it over the glass and he goes, I said, okay. Man, I took a, I thought he was going to knock my head off. Have you ever had that? I have not. Have you? Oh, yeah. I'll get you fired up.
Starting point is 01:26:22 Dang. It hurts. I thought I was going to have to go home. Yeah. It's pretty gross. But Moe, yeah, he's been known to let his mind wander a little bit during games. Oh, yeah. I remember when Words with Friends was popular, it'd be intermission.
Starting point is 01:26:36 I'd be at the game. and all of a sudden Mike Madano makes a play. I'm like, oh, yeah, I'm really focused on the game here. Four points. So, Mo, he called me one day, and he said, did you watch our game yesterday? I said, yes. And he goes, man, did you see? I was flying down that right side, and I saw that corner open, and I slung it up in that corner.
Starting point is 01:27:00 Do you see that? I go, yeah. He goes, you're lying. You didn't see it, did you? I said, no, I didn't see it. And he goes, well, start watching my game. I said, okay. So I go, so he's, they're going to play on a Saturday.
Starting point is 01:27:17 And so I said, look, I'm going to call him at 6 o'clock and say, I just want you to know I'm going to watch the game. So I call him and he goes, Ben, I'm in the locker room. We played at three. And I go, okay, I'll do better tomorrow. I mean, he thought I watched all his games. I'll catch the next one. Yeah. No, Mo, we have shit to do as well.
Starting point is 01:27:38 He's a good one. So I want to take you back to our time playing together at the AT&T, Pebble Beach. Because, like we said earlier, the only time you did make the cut. But we were off at Pebble Beach on Friday. Got off to a rather nice start. Okay, I did. You didn't. I was 400 through five and had an eagle put on the sixth.
Starting point is 01:27:57 And you leaned over to your caddy, aka your son, Finley Ewing. And I was about a 30-footer for Eagle. And I believe the word was, if he makes this, put, I'll blow him on the sixth green. I did not say that. Yes. You were allowed to say these things on this podcast. You said that, and I heard it, and then I made it, and I turned around, and looked at you
Starting point is 01:28:17 and you go, how about a free car instead? Okay. Well, I haven't gotten either. So, are you ready to pay up yet? No. Give him the car for my sake. Yeah, I'll give you 10 cars. Talk about your all-time backfires, huh?
Starting point is 01:28:30 Yeah, yeah. I'll give you 10 cars. Perfect. I'll take them. I still won't wreck as many as Mo. No, no. No, you couldn't. You couldn't.
Starting point is 01:28:37 He must drive blindfolded. Those guys have been hit too many times. All right, well, I'll be waiting on my car. Okay. Yeah, let's settle that bet. It might be out there. It might be out there. It could be out there.
Starting point is 01:28:50 It could be. There are no car out there. Oh, yeah, I think it's trimming. That's true. All right, my last one, big golf fan, obviously, you know all the guys down there. I'm sure you have some memorabilia, but coolest place you've ever gotten a Jordan Spieth autograph. You know, I don't know that I've ever gotten one of his.
Starting point is 01:29:09 And we're special? Yes, you have. You fly on it. You are you used to. Oh. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, my gosh. So the guy that you just met, the pilot? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:29:22 So he calls me and he goes, I think we can fix it. Everything's going to be fine. We just got this plane. He goes, everything's, no, no, it was a different one. But he said. I got so many of them. I don't know which one is. He said, I'm, he said, well, I can handle.
Starting point is 01:29:39 this. I can handle it. Just don't worry. I said, what are you talking about? He goes, well, I might as well just tell you. He goes, Jordan Speath signed your plane. I said, he signed it. He goes, yeah, I said, where? He said, I said, he said, on the seat in the front. I said, he did? He goes, yeah. He goes, but I can get it off. I said, you leave it there. It'll be just fine there. That's just fine there. That's exactly. It said, Ben, I heart you,
Starting point is 01:30:09 Jordan Speed. Were you on it? Oh, yeah. That was coming from New Orleans. And y'all were, no, that was going,
Starting point is 01:30:15 that was leaving. Either way, whatever, going to New Orleans. But you were, the, the, y'all were playing cards
Starting point is 01:30:21 and maybe you have a drink. Somebody came up with a good idea. Yeah. Yeah. It wasn't my idea. Blame Jordan. That was Jordan's idea.
Starting point is 01:30:30 So you kept it on there. Oh, yeah. So when you went and sold the plane, did they happen to notice that the seat was autographed? Oh, yeah. Did they care? Yeah, they took that thing off and kept it. Oh, that was nice.
Starting point is 01:30:43 Charging for it. Their name's not Finn. That's true. True. All right, last one. I know you love the red, white, and blue. You got the American flag on your belt. But how do you feel about the red, hot, and blue? The red hot and blue. Okay. What the hell is this? I wasn't going to tell this story, but I'm going to go ahead and tell it. Does this have to be the last one? He's getting warmed up. No, you got all your notes. It's been going for an over hour and a half. This is your show, Finlay. You're still talking about that dude's course record of Pebble. Yeah. Howie Long or whatever. Did I tell you it was
Starting point is 01:31:18 61? God damn. Okay. Good round. So I have a, I have a checkup one morning. And then I'm going to meet this friend of mine, Jay McCauley. I'm going to meet him over at Red Hot and Blue after it. Barbecue Place and Dallas. Barbecue place and Dallas. Barbecue place and dies. Really good. So I go in there and get chopped beef and they had this really hot barbecue sauce. I mean really hot
Starting point is 01:31:43 and I put it all over it. I hadn't had anything to eat. And so it hit like a you know, like a bomb. And when they, like I had a diet Coke, when they bring you a diet Coke, they bring it in a pitcher.
Starting point is 01:32:00 So not, you don't have a glass, you drink it out of the pitcher. So I've had a picture full of Diet Coke, and I had two red, hot and blues, chopped with the hottest stuff. And I go out and I get in my car, and I'm going, man, I don't think I feel good.
Starting point is 01:32:19 And I go, I think I may have to stop by the men's room. I said, I'll go to McDonald's because they have the best, the cleanest bathrooms. Is that true? What? It feels like one of the worst places. You got to know these things. So I go and I'm thinking, well, I'm not going to make it to McDonald's.
Starting point is 01:32:40 And I'm going, man, I need a place like right now. And I go up and there's a holiday inn on the right. And I go flying into this holiday inn. And I go and I pull up in a parking spot and I jam on the brakes. And I'm thinking, how am I going to get my legs out of here? And I'm sitting here going, oh, my God. So I'm, I'm freaking out. So I just turn with my legs together.
Starting point is 01:33:03 And get out and I run into this holiday inn. I got a question for you. Ready? If you're going to go into Holiday Inn and you need a bathroom right now and the counter's on the left, where's the bathroom? The right. The left? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:33:20 I don't pay attention to the bathrooms line up. I was wrong. Okay. So I went to the left and I go over there and all I see is these women in there typing on their stuff and I'm going, oh, no. And then all of a sudden, there's an eruption. And I, I don't, I'm just standing there. I don't even know what to do. I'm trying to push it back up in there and stuff. And so, did that work? So, no. So I look, I look down the hall and there's a maids cart. So I run down there and I've got hands around on me, it's terrible.
Starting point is 01:33:57 So I go down to that maids cart and I go in this room and these maids, in there cleaning up and I just say, and I go in and shut the door. And so I got to take, you know, like I've got stuff all over my sleeves and my shirt tail. And I'm, and I, so I, I left my underwear in there. And I left, I left my underwear in there. I left my socks. The socks had it on to.
Starting point is 01:34:26 And, and I, and I look up on the, okay, so whoever was staying. And all their stuff was, so I moved all their stuff out of the way. Their toothbrush, you know, blow dryer, all the stuff. I got it all out of the way. And I used all the towels, including the ones they'd already used. And I kind of cleaned myself up as good as I could. And I walk out and that poor little Mexican lady was standing there. And I gave her $300.
Starting point is 01:34:54 And she goes, oh, you don't need to do that. I said, oh, yes, I do. Wait, you see. Wouldn't you go in there? He just went to some stranger's room. Yeah. And there was, oh my God, it was terrible. It's been a while since we had a good shit your pants story, you know?
Starting point is 01:35:07 You up there with George Brett. Yeah, George Brett. Mark Grace. Yeah, Gracie. Is his better than mine? It's pretty good, too. His was at Belagio. In the lobby.
Starting point is 01:35:16 And he wore some other man's pants. Tough. It's pretty good. Tough spot to have. You went into a stranger's room and shit all over yourself, which is pretty high up there. You think they got their room comp if they come in and there's just shit tiles everywhere? Oh, my God. No, at least the maid was.
Starting point is 01:35:29 there. George and I need to talk about our stories. You and George have a lot in common. Do we? Yeah, both great athletes, both shit your pants. Yeah. It's 50%. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:35:40 You had another one too, right, where you crashed into your assistant's desk. Yeah. No, I didn't hit her desk. I ran to turn back in my feet, went out from under me, and then when I hit, it was all over but to shouting. You brought over by the shout. That was the second one. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:35:58 It all right. Hey, it happens. George Brett said there's two type of people in this world. Those who have shit their pants and those who haven't yet. Or those that won't tell you. Yeah, that's true. Well, before we get out of here, I know you really want to sing this song for some reason. I'm going to sing it.
Starting point is 01:36:14 Oh, yeah, we're going to let you sing this song. You're going to sing the whole damn thing? I'm singing the whole thing. There's no way you can stop me. Yeah, well, I can't because I can hit it on the record button. So this is Finn Ewing in the wrong direction. You wrote this song for your Hall of Fame induction at the Cottonville. I get in in the Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame, and I've been on the board since 1985.
Starting point is 01:36:34 And it's been one of the most fun things I've ever done. I've been in every locker room, every sidelines, every whatever. First thing you come up with is locker room. Yeah, I like that locker room. But it's been one of the coolest things. And I got in, and my class was just to name a few, Bo Jackson, the bus, Jerome Bettis. You love Jerome. Yeah, Joe Jerome's the best.
Starting point is 01:36:59 That's a funny son of a gun. And then D'Amico Ryan played at Alabama, but he's the coach down at the Houston Texans now. David Cutcliffe, he was the quarterback whisper for Peyton and Eli. There was another guy that's Charlie Fiss was another Cotton Bowl guy. And then Randy Braybann was played for Texas, and another guy from Nebraska, Tony Davis. Did a lot of people think you were Bo Jackson? You get y'all mixed up. No, but Bo, after I did my song, he goes,
Starting point is 01:37:37 I can't believe that the littlest guy in our class got the only standing ovation. It is a nice song. Hey, be better, Bo. Do you want to sing it or do you want us to play it? Yeah, well, if we have it, I'd rather play it. Well, we can play it once we edit everything. But that's your call. What do you mean?
Starting point is 01:37:57 You got a recording of it? Yeah. Oh, you do? Yeah. Oh, yeah. I mean, I've got a recording of it right there. Yeah, we need that. Or would you rather me just sing it?
Starting point is 01:38:07 I'll do either way. You want to hear him sing a little something? Hey, I'm not opposed to it. It's not often we get a music icon in here, you know, willing to put it on display. Fire away. You want to do it? Do you need some space? No.
Starting point is 01:38:22 You need some music? No. You're going to a cappella. I'm just going to sing it. Yeah, okay. Sing your heart. You ready? Fin you in. No wrong direction here. Just fin you in.
Starting point is 01:38:32 I never thought it happened. You can all see why. Play football through the sixth grade and I damn near died. Some people say football is just a game. I'm five foot five in the Hall of Fame. I'm in the Hall of Fame. I'm in the Hall of Fame. The Cottonbow Hall of Fame. I'm known in college football as a Cottonbow man.
Starting point is 01:38:53 Still doing my part every chance I can. Baker and the staff have. to keep me in line when I get in trouble ending up in a bind it's been the greatest thing that I've ever done it sure ain't work cause it's a lot of fun I'm in the hall of fame I'm in the hall of fame the cottonbow hall of fame I met my wife at the cotton bowl got married soon after and now we're old I'll still be hanging around till I'm gone don't know any better it's my second home we've been through hell but we're about on top, get out of our way, because we ain't going to stop.
Starting point is 01:39:31 I'm in the Hall of Fame. I'm in the Hall of Fame, the Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame. Texas played Tennessee in my first game. Ever since then, I've never been the same. I think I only missed one or two. That's 55 games away more than you. Every single game was special to me. That's why I only missed two.
Starting point is 01:39:54 Instead of three, I'm in the Hall of Fame. God damn. I'm in the Hall of Fame, the Cotton Bowl Hall of Fame. What a voice. Ben Ewing, everyone. That's what I'm talking about. I'm going to Nashville. Somebody's going to discover you.
Starting point is 01:40:10 Oh, what a disaster. If you haven't been already. That's why at the deal, I had a guitar player and a backup singer. Yeah, you had a beat. You got a standing O for that, huh? Oh, yeah. He said, I'm going to sing a song, right? What did you say, right?
Starting point is 01:40:22 This red hot minute. This red hot minute. Then he started, and he goes, y'all clap. Yeah, I said clap. So you get the beat going. Oh, yeah. But beautiful job. On a serious note,
Starting point is 01:40:34 Thank you for everything you do for the game of golf. Man, I'll tell you what, this is fun. Can I do this again tomorrow? No. I'll fly back out. God, no. I want to do, did I do good or am I good? It's like Kentucky basketball.
Starting point is 01:40:44 You're won and done. I'm over? Mm-hmm. I'll never get to come back. Can I come back with you? Yeah. I feel like we're just scratching the surface. Y'all go to the TCU game together and talk about.
Starting point is 01:40:52 Yeah, we will do that, by the way. Oh, yeah, we're doing that. We will do that. We're doing that for sure. Hey, do you know where the iron skill it is at the moment? It's in Dallas, bitch. Yeah, it's on loan. Try to make this thing a rivalry.
Starting point is 01:41:04 But this is the last year. Like the game's over? Are y'all just going to keep winning? No, it's over. It's not going to play anymore. That's tragic. It's being suspended at least. I know.
Starting point is 01:41:14 All right. We'll take that thing. Good job, everyone. Thank you all so much. All right, that was Finn Ewing, joining us on golf subpar, father of the year back in 2007. there in the Dallas area. And by the way, Sleece, Father's Day is coming up,
Starting point is 01:41:27 and nothing beats a custom gift he'll actually wear. I just grabbed a few birdie juice teas. The process was super easy, and they turned out great. You can do the same. Pick your favorite logo, choose from polos, hats, hoodies, and more, all from the top golf brands. Make it personal, make it quick, just in time for Father's Day. Go to shop.golf.com and get dad something he'll actually use.
Starting point is 01:41:46 So, ladies, that man, I've known him forever. Just an absolute beauty. He's 5'5-5. Talks a lot of shit. and obviously shits his pants as well, which is we always love a great shit-your-pants story on subpar. It's been a good while. I feel like since we'd had a nice shit-your-pants
Starting point is 01:42:01 stepped up and delivered. He's a horn frog, of course. What do you expect? The guy's legendary. It's nice when you're at a place in life where people can just use a Sharpie and sign seats on your airplane and you don't really care.
Starting point is 01:42:13 And it's like a joke as opposed to like a big deal and stuff. But I mean, your heart-pressed find a better guy, more respected guy. I mean, around the BJ Touricle, I mean, everyone that knows him who's lucky enough to get to know him. I mean, loves the man. That's why we want to have him on. I feel like we bring him up on this show frequently.
Starting point is 01:42:29 I mean, he flew his plane to Scottsdale, got out, did the interview, and flew back home. I mean, he's an absolute legend. A little long-winded sometimes. I think Hurley Long broke the course record at Pebble Beach in a quicker time than it took then to actually tell the story about him breaking the course record. I think I could have signed up for a 36-month lease on a new Tahoe. He's still been going on that story. we love you, Finley.
Starting point is 01:42:52 A hell of a round by the Howie Long or whatever his name was. Early long. Early. Fucking good playing, dude. Sorry, Windham had to come in and snatch that. But that was, I enjoyed it. He's a good one, though, man. He is a great, dude.
Starting point is 01:43:05 So generous. And like I said, everything he's done for the game of golf in the Texas area and everywhere. I mean, the college event is putting out at Pebble Beach, getting all the teams out there, staying at the lodge, playing Pebble Beach four days. Really cool. I love that guy. He is one of the best in the first. business. But Slais, a lot of fun, as always, my man. Get those Colorado Rockies turned around.
Starting point is 01:43:27 This is like 9 and 50. Remember that. This is where we really make our move. We've been playing possum for a while. Oh, my God. What if Jordan wins the U.S. Open and they don't win a game before that. I mean, he'll be leading them. That's incredible. Scotty, dude, he's got a week off. The chances are we don't win shit during that time. He might have a chance to do something that's never been done before. Not even Tiger will have one of those stats. I love it. Well, thank you all for listening. We'll Talk to you on next week's subpar.
