Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello and welcome to Table Manners. I am Jessie Ware. Before going on the main stage to do a performance, I just popped into the Birramoretti Alfresco spot in Isle of Wight Festival. With my mother, mum's come down for our first festy of the year. Darling, I feel it's a bit like Romeo and Juliet here, darling. We're on a fabulous balcony and I'm going to call out to my lovers. There's a whole host of people downstairs enjoying Birramariti, having a drink, having a chat, being together, enjoying themselves at the festival. It feels a bit Italian, don't you think? It's just like being in Italy here. This is a very special al fresco episode of Table Manners
Starting point is 00:00:42 and it's brought to listeners in partnership with Birramariti at the Isle of Wight Festival. So we thought what better guests to have than two incredibly un-Italian people. They're from Manchester it's Tom and Jo from Blossoms. I think they'll know a lot about Italy. They're well-travelled darling and I bet they love a taste of Italy just like us. Let's see if Tom and Joe like life's simple pleasures. What do they get simple pleasure out of? I know that Tom is married to Joe's sister and they have their own podcast which is called Pubcast and they all chat around drinks. So they like a beer. They like a beer, they like being together, they like chatting and they
Starting point is 00:01:23 obviously are not sick of each other, are they? No. So we're going to have them on the piazza having a chat, whilst the people downstairs are going to be listening to the podcast as we do it live. Everyone looks like they're waiting for something to happen. They've all got their drinks. I'm going to go for a birra moretti zero, Mum, I think. Are you?
Starting point is 00:01:40 Because I've got a show to do later. I want to try the regular birra moretti for the full flavour, darling. Because it's Table Manners, of course we're going to be not only having a little drink, we're going to also be having some food. So we've got olives on here, crisps, and then we're going to have some pizza. So shall we try and see how this goes?
Starting point is 00:01:57 A live podcast in a festival, on a piazza, al fresco, with blossoms, Table Manners, the birra moretti, at Isle of Wight Festival. Let's go. Tom and Jo, welcome to Table Manners in the Birramoretti al Fresco Piazza Balcony Bar. How are you doing?
Starting point is 00:02:20 Thanks for having us. Listen, I have to say to the listeners, I mean, there's people outside having a little drink. Oh, the sun's come back out. Nice. Great. You've got the most gorgeous outfits on. Yeah. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:02:30 You've made such an effort. Yeah. I'd like to say I rolled out of bed like this, but I didn't. There's a lot of work that went into this. How's... Do you have a nice shower at the Premier Inn? Yeah, it's all right. How was your sleep on the tour bus?
Starting point is 00:02:42 Awful. I hate the tour bus more. I can sleep anywhere, me, so I was all right. But Joe, you struggle, don't you? Oh, I hate it. Quite a tired boy today, aren't you? Tired, cranky. I was cranky.
Starting point is 00:02:50 I'm not now. I'm happy now. Have you eaten yet? Not yet. We'll get you something. Listen, well, whilst we wait for some, I think we're having some pizza, sourdough, you know, Italian style. Would you like a drink?
Starting point is 00:03:00 I'll have a beer. What do you want? I'll have a beer. I'll have a zero because I don't drink before I play. Yeah, that's what I'm going to do too. I used to, but. Mum, are you having zero? Yeah. Go on, drink, drink, drink. Oh, there's a bottle over there. Oh mum, come on, you have blossoms, you can drink it. Wake it up and drink it. So you're not brothers, you're brothers-in-law? Yeah. And explain how. Well, me and Jo have been friends since we were 12.
Starting point is 00:03:27 Yeah. And Jo had an older sister. Yeah. Who was four years older. She was attractive. Sure, she's really happy that you just said that. She's not over there, actually. Oh, she's very attractive.
Starting point is 00:03:38 I'm the good-looking one, by the way. You can imagine, everyone wound him up at school and stuff. I didn't. I stayed quiet for 10 years. And then married her. We started the band together. So she's coming to the gigs. She's cutting my hair.
Starting point is 00:03:50 She's a hairdresser. So we went to, you know, I've known her for a long time, basically. We ended up single at the same time. She hasn't cut your hair for a while. I know, yeah. I forgot. What happens when adults are single and you get together? Right, yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:03 But then we actually realised we were really into each other, so then we were like, and we just stayed together since. Now we're married. How did you feel about this? When Tom rang me and first told me, I laughed. I thought it was hilarious. That's a better reaction than other people. I was very sad.
Starting point is 00:04:17 I thought I've ruined the band here. The band's gonna split up. Really? Would you have chosen her over the band? Not at that point. Do you know what though? I think it'd be weirder if I cared about that. Why should I care about my sister's sex life? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:04:33 Even that pained me to say, do you know what I mean? We should really change this conversation. You poor wimps out there. Sorry Katie. We're married now and we're brother-in-laws and it's, you know, it could have gone one way or the other. How does it feel now being brother-in-laws? It feels the same, doesn't it? And brother-in-laws. And it's, you know, it could have gone one way or the other. How does it feel now being brother-in-laws? It feels the same, doesn't it?
Starting point is 00:04:48 Fanmates and brother-in-laws. Best friends since 12. I mean, it's, you know. It's a lot, isn't it? It is intense. We just see each other for Sunday roast more than we used to now. Well, let's get on to that. Who's making the Sunday roast? Who was best man, first of all?
Starting point is 00:04:57 Joe. You see? I knew it. Good speech. Kind of had to be, really. Good speech. Yeah, he did do a good speech. What did you wear on your wedding?
Starting point is 00:05:03 Pink trousers? Do you know what? Everyone was like, what colour are you going to wear? Because sometimes they wear quite flamboyant stuff. Yeah, he did do a good speech. What did you wear on your wedding? Pink trousers? Do you know what? Everyone was like, what colour are you going to wear? Because sometimes I wear quite flamboyant stuff. In my head, I always wanted a dead smart black suit. So it was like nice and flared and tailor-made and that. But it was black with a black bow tie. And where did you get married?
Starting point is 00:05:15 Manchester? No, we stopped Port Town on. But because it was just after lockdown, everywhere was booked up. So we just had it in our garden in the marquee. It was a squeeze. But it made it better. We had a Beatles tribute band, in the marquee. It was a squeeze, but it made it better. We had a Beatles tribute band, Frank Sinatra tribute.
Starting point is 00:05:28 It was cool. What did you eat? Just had pizza. Did you? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just had a pizza. There was this, at the end of my road in lockdown, you know, cause all the pubs are closed,
Starting point is 00:05:37 from the pub he was making pizzas and like selling them, you know what I mean? Yeah. And they were amazing. They were so good. I can't remember his name. What was his name? Oh, we got to give him a shout out.
Starting point is 00:05:45 Basilico. Basilico is his company. So you like Italian food? Love it. Oh yeah. And it's easy. How lovely is this beer? It's nice isn't it? Yeah it's delicious. Gorgeous. So okay we hear that you're a fan Tom of the podcast. I'm a huge fan. I'm fanboying a little bit here. Seeing your mum in person and putting her face to the voice it's like. You're welcome. Yeah. Do you know what, actually? You were fanboying, we were in a restaurant and you two came in. Piss off. Where?
Starting point is 00:06:10 Brutto in London. I was in Brutto. Brutto? Yeah, Mum was in Brutto. No, I don't... Because you were saying, I don't know if it was Mum, but we saw you. And I was like, go over and say hiya. We did this session.
Starting point is 00:06:18 That was mental that night. Yeah, Lily Allen was in there. Sam Taylor Johnson was there. Yeah. It was popping off. Sam Taylor Johnson was there. Yeah. It was popping off. And were you there for when they did the Prince tribute? No. Because it was the day that Prince died.
Starting point is 00:06:30 It was the anniversary of his death. Ah, I see. We missed that. And they turned all the lights down and turned up Purple Rain. Wow. It was fab. Brutto's great. I love it.
Starting point is 00:06:38 Great Italian restaurant. Yeah, yeah. It was really good. Oh, you should have come and said hi. I know. But do you know when you're like, I don't know, you look like you were just like speaking, having a nice night. We didn't want to just go, hi. Do you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:06:47 We're rubbish like that as well. I know. You were blatantly looking at Jenna Coleman on the table and being like, oh, yeah. I didn't even know she was there. Oh, she was with me. Oh, was she? Anyway, so, okay. So I want to know, who's cooking the Sunday roast on the Sunday when you're all getting together?
Starting point is 00:07:02 Joe's dad did them for years. So like, we used to go around to Joe's mum and dad's house. They've relocated to a boat now. They live on a narrow boat. So they can't really have everyone round. So me and Katie have everyone higher up. They live on a narrow boat. So it's crazy.
Starting point is 00:07:14 You can't really get six of you. They sold in New Mills just up from Stockport. Bloody hell. They sold the family. Because obviously me and Katie. They're not very tall. Like just you two. Yeah, just me and Katie.
Starting point is 00:07:25 Yeah, yeah. So, me and Katie obviously moved out. And then, yeah, they just thought, oh, why not do it? Sold the house, bought an Aeroboat. Love it. Absolutely love it. Do you love it? It is, do you know what?
Starting point is 00:07:33 It is amazing. It's cosy. It's so cosy. But you can't have six of you for Sunday dinner. So, they come to ours now. So, they move about? Yeah, they can do. They've not really done it that much.
Starting point is 00:07:41 Just that the... Honestly, you know, in the morning, there's like a little bit that you can sit at the back on the canal with all the ducks in the morning. It is classic. It's a nice vibe. What fun! I know they're a bit like that mum and dad, though. And so what is your meat of choice for your Sunday roast?
Starting point is 00:07:54 I like a good hunk of roast beef or chicken. You're a good cook, aren't you? I got better now. I was shocking for a long time, but Katie whipped me into shape and kind of encouraged me over a load of terrible meals that I was good. But now I'm actually good.
Starting point is 00:08:10 Can I ask you a bit? You made shepherd's pie any time recently. Have you heard about that on our podcast? Tell them all. Oh, my God. What? So we've got our podcast. Explain to the listeners that don't listen to it
Starting point is 00:08:21 what it's about. So we basically, we started listening to other people's podcasts and we were like, we're all mates. We have some funny stories that we talk about together. We might as well do a podcast and just share it. It's not a serious podcast by any stretch of the imagination.
Starting point is 00:08:33 We kind of just... It's sort of like it's not talking about the music as much on the other side of it. Yeah, it is. It's like our personal lives a bit more and just funny stuff that's happened over the years. Anything really. So after the lockdown, we were just catching up.
Starting point is 00:08:49 So we were like, has anything happened worth noting recently? recently so i was like i've got quite a funny story being katie was when you could have people in the garden round yeah so we had like two friends come around emma and ryan and it was a hot day katie was nipping around to pick them up i was gonna make something quick and i was like i'll make a veggie shepherd's pie or cottage pie and she was like don't want cottage pie i want tacos because it's warm so then i looked what's in i do get it and i looked what's in the fridge and there wasn't much to make well we didn't have any pepper peppers so i was like we can't make tacos then i'll just do it i'll make tacos i'll just make the veggie shepherd's pie that's where i went wrong i should have just done what kate did this cottage pie and i knew when i was making it i didn't have all the right stuff there
Starting point is 00:09:25 and it was shocking. It was a bad pie. So she came back just before Emma and Ryan were walking in so Katie's like, what's that there? I was like,
Starting point is 00:09:32 it's the cottage pie I made. She's like, why have you made cottage pie? It's built up anger from lockdown and you're in each other's skin, aren't you? And I was like, I've just spent an hour making this
Starting point is 00:09:41 and you're saying, what's that you've made? So then I just put my hand in the cottage pie and just started throwing the cottage pie on the floor. It was bad. Do you have anger issues? No.
Starting point is 00:09:52 No, I don't. You didn't throw any at her, did you? No. I just saw it then, I thought my hand's going in it. I was like, we just got a takeaway after that. You should have been like the first place, to be fair. Yeah, it was just shocking. Can I ask you a very big question?
Starting point is 00:10:04 Yeah. Yorkshire pudding with your chicken, or do you just keep it to the roast beef? No, I think Yorkshire pudding all the time. Everything? Every roast. I'll go to Yorkshire puddings. Yeah. We started to introduce them
Starting point is 00:10:15 because your children like Yorkshire puddings. They only eat that. They don't eat any of the other bit of it. Our keyboard player, Miles, whenever he felt sick, he used to think of Yorkshire puddings and gravy and not feel sick. I think that's the weirdest thing ever. It's so weird.
Starting point is 00:10:30 Instead of avamine, he thinks of Yorkshire pudding. He thinks of Yorkshire and gravy, apparently. Make them fresh as well, the Yorkshire puddings. I mean, yes, but I can't knock her Aunt Bessie's, though, I have to say. No, that's my girlfriend. No, I think mine have got better, Jess. What about Sophia? Sophia, yes. Sophia makes an amazing...
Starting point is 00:10:49 She's a baker, though. Is she? Not her actual job. No, that's not her job, no. She loves baking. That's like, absolutely. We think baking is like being a scientist. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:59 Because you've got to be so clever about your ingredients and mixing them. I think you've got to... I'm not good at reading instruction. You're not. Do you know what I mean? I'm not good at reading instruction. Me not. Do you know what I mean? So I'm all out of cooking because you can just sort of wing it, can't you? If you do it at bake, it's like, it's done. So let's go back to, like, you at school.
Starting point is 00:11:14 You were at school together, right? Yeah. Which school? Milan. Stockport School, yeah, Milan. Milan. Yeah. So what's a really memorable...
Starting point is 00:11:21 You can come back to this, but what's a really memorable meal from your childhood together? We were quite fussy as kids. You're still fairly fussy, but I was very fussy. I was brought up on, like, fish fingers, mash and beans, and sausage, mash and beans, and alternatives of that. The odd thing, my gran would cook fresh stuff. I'd go around there and have, like, a really nice thing.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Why did, did your parents not? My dad's in the Navy, so he'd be away for, like, half a year. And my mum was on her own and she'd be working. So she's not a foodie really my mum. And she didn't have the confidence from mum. Also, she had a job, two kids on her own. She was like, put some fish in the oven mate. She was like, come on quick basically.
Starting point is 00:11:58 But so that school was probably an extension. And I remember chips and beans at school. Chips and beans. See, my mum and dad have always cooked things fresh. I think it's just a way to save money more than anything. I say Tom, I was so fussy, but I loved shepherd's pie. So what would happen when Tom would come over to your house and your parents would be cooking something fresh?
Starting point is 00:12:19 Would you not eat it? Yeah, you've stayed at... Bobby would have had spaghetti bolognese. That would have been something. There were some foods I don't like. There were bits which I'd get involved with, you've stayed at your team. I would have liked spaghetti bolognese. That would have been some of the some of the some foods I don't like. Which were like, I'd get involved with if you know what I mean. And that was my dad.
Starting point is 00:12:31 My mom used to cook in the week and my dad used to cook a weekend because my dad like used to work later hours. I'm a dad. My dad's like the cook. My mom's a bit like me. Not really. I enjoy some food and stuff, but doesn't enjoy like. Your dad's a really good cook.
Starting point is 00:12:43 Yeah, my dad's like Yesterday he cooked us a nice... Meatballs. Oh, I love meatballs. Yeah. It's his dad's recipe from when... He lived in Spain for a bit, didn't he? Yeah, he did, yeah. It's like he laminates everything, doesn't he?
Starting point is 00:12:54 He's laminated the recipe and it's like, you know, really meticulous and like handwritten. It's dead nice. And I make it now as well. Do you like Italian food besides pizza? What's your favourite? Tagliatelle al ragù bolognese. You've got to go in there and have a taste. handwritten it's dead nice so and i make it now as well do you like italian food besides pizza what's your favorite tagliatelle al ragu bolognese basically i love we became when you're on tour bolognese fans we're obsessed we've had it
Starting point is 00:13:14 everywhere okay but i have a well we have a theory we have michael machintar on the podcast and when he went to his last supper which you know we're going to ask you, he said that he would always opt for homemade spaghetti bolognese. Have you ever found a better bolognese in a restaurant than homemade? Yeah. Oh. So we dug deep with bolognese. We dug deep. We went to Bologna.
Starting point is 00:13:39 Yeah. To play. To play. And at this point, we were already quite obsessed. I feel like we went more to eat bolognese, to be honest. We need to rewind a bit. Basically, us five, you know, we started off on the tour bus, and you're in Weatherspoons and stuff, aren't you?
Starting point is 00:13:52 Because you don't have any money to go anywhere. And as we got a little bit bigger, we could go to a decent restaurant or anywhere, and the only place we really all agreed on would be Italian. So we'd all go there, and we'd all end up just having the bolognese because it was just easier and quicker. But then it became a thing, and we'd be comparing there and we'd all end up just having the bolognese because it was just easier and quicker. But then it became a thing and we would be comparing them and rating them and stuff like that. Oh right.
Starting point is 00:14:11 It's a proper thing. So we've had them in New York, Bologna, everywhere we've ever been we had bolognese. Don't one of the best ones Munich? Munich had a really good one. Really? Munich, Bologna. What made it so good? I don't know, you asked, we tried to ask the recipe and the guy... We have a few different things which add to it. Do you ask the recipe? I love this Oh, yeah, we're fully involved one. We feel blonde is the best
Starting point is 00:14:29 We don't we don't we don't include Yeah, we don't we don't leave a little on you Surprisingly very dry the ball and a yeah quite Take you likes it a bit more with the tomato sauce and stuff. I like it quite dry, I like the bologna one. That was Katie's favourite food when she was a kid, though, as well. Bolognese. Weirdly, yeah. But the New York one is a restaurant we go to called Supper
Starting point is 00:14:52 in the Lower East Side. And the chef's called Frank Prisanzano, and he's quite big on Instagram, and he puts all these methods, he calls them, online. And he's well into it all, and you can see how he makes it. And his is a bit more tomato-y. That's my other favourite, other than bolognese, in New York. I have to say, now, is a bit more tomatoey. That's my other favorite other than bolognese in New York. I have to say now, this isn't a bolognese,
Starting point is 00:15:06 I haven't tried their bolognese, but for pasta in Manchester, Sugo. I've not been to Sugo. Oh mate! Great! You know what, that was my fiance's ex-boyfriend. Oh my God! Lucky!
Starting point is 00:15:17 No, you can't go there. No, I don't care. Have you not? Yeah, you won. I'm engaged, yeah. Who cares? Stuff like that don't really bother me, but no, it is meant to be Abjad. It's very good.
Starting point is 00:15:25 I really want to go. I'm like, come on, let's go. I don't know what, because in Manchester, we just don't end up going. I think there isn't that many good Italians in Manchester, I don't think. There's not an awful lot. I need to go to that two-go. But there's San Carlo. San Carlo's the one we go to.
Starting point is 00:15:38 The Bolognese was good there. San Carlo. It's a bit fancy. What about Rio's restaurant, Rosso? Rosso. The Bolognese is good there. Who does Bolognese there? Yeah. Is there a Bolognese there got better. San Carlo. It's a bit fancy. What about Rio's restaurant, Rosso? Rosso.
Starting point is 00:15:46 The bolognese is good there. Who does bolognese there? Yeah. They do bolognese there? See, I've never been there. This is where we became not obsessed with it. We realized obviously spaghetti bolognese, it shouldn't be with spaghetti. It should be with tagliatelle.
Starting point is 00:15:56 And it's tagliatelle I like to do bolognese. And that's why. You're a purist. If we're in somewhere and they've got it with spaghetti, we'll change that to tagliatelle. Who is the perfect dinner guest? Who would be around your dinner table if you could choose? Anyone in the world? Anyone in the world? I like this vibe right now.
Starting point is 00:16:14 Oh, darling. I feel very relaxed. Who's cooking? You or me? Both. Both. Really? Would you let him? No. That's like my dad.
Starting point is 00:16:22 Your dad was cooking yesterday because I'm into? No. That's like my dad. Ian, your dad was cooking yesterday, because I'm into it now, I was like, have you put the nutmeg in, Ian, and all this? You need to step back. My dad does it to you as well, doesn't he? When you're cooking something, my dad's like, what can I do, Tommy?
Starting point is 00:16:35 Yeah, what can I do? It's nice, though, isn't it? Because you like cooking. You see, well, I'm like, I'll get a beer and sit down and do nothing. I appreciate it. I wash the pots at the end of the day. See, I think that's a really important thing, too, do not wash up and so being the washer up darling what do you
Starting point is 00:16:48 do oh i made you a star that's what i did i'm your chris jenner so watch it lady um the eating's important surely jesse's learned to relax i ate all your food yeah you're having a nice time i am i had bolognese yesterday, actually. Did you? I was in Greece. I came back from Greece last night. Oh, yes, sir. And they put cinnamon in there.
Starting point is 00:17:10 Yeah. Yeah. It's only the one in New York. Yeah. Oh, I love that. It's nice, isn't it? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:18 Now, are you offended that I put a smidge of cumin in mine? No. Yeah, I am, Jess. I'm into that. It's not traditional, but why not? No. Milk is traditional as well. Milk I sometimes do. So my fiance, Sfia, her dad is Italian.
Starting point is 00:17:29 Yeah. Really? Perfect. And honestly, he cooks the most amazing. You were saying it's like just the most simple thing, just like pasta, tomato, onions. And it's like, how are you making a dish like that? He does this one thing where he literally
Starting point is 00:17:40 just spaghetti, onions, and beef, and that's it. And I'm always like, what are you doing here? It's just like, ah, just shove it in. How did you meet Sophia? At a gig, one of our gigs. She was a fan. Oh, God, this is so embarrassing. Is she here as well? No, she's not, she's at home. She's got an event in shop now, so she's doing that. Nice. We went to Artic Monkeys, me and Tom.
Starting point is 00:18:03 This is a couple of years before we got together. And then we saw this girl and I was like, oh, my God, she's doing that. Nice. We went to Arctic Monkeys, me and Tom. This is like a couple of years before we got together. And then we saw this girl and I was like, oh, my God, she's stunning. So you were both punters in the audience? Yeah, and I saw her and I was like, and we called her with no name, called her Arctic Monkeys girl. And then anyway, fast forward like two years. Two years later.
Starting point is 00:18:21 We were playing Club Academy in Manchester and we were walking out to get some food and we could see her walking down And you remember her? You get tagged don't you? Especially in the early days you see everything don't you? You're not that big. It's like oh someone's tweeting about the gig or they're coming to watch us tonight So they tagged us and we were like That's the one you saw at the Arctic Monkeys
Starting point is 00:18:38 Crikey you were like detected I know and it came through and then I was like so right after the gig I saw her in the crowd Beeline Went back, straight out Slid in them DMs I know and it came through and then I was like so right after the gig I saw in the crowd beeline went back What was your first line So where did you go for a drink, Doug? Big Hands. So you know when you play the Academy on Oxford Road? Have you never been to Big Hands? The Big Hands is like a tiny little bar next door and everyone goes there when you play the Academy afterwards. I was missing out on that, Joe.
Starting point is 00:19:12 It's like a dive bar, it's dingy. Yeah, it's not nice. You wouldn't go in there and be like, ooh, I'm having a great time. So that was your first connection in Big Hands? Yeah, but it was after the hit so we all went and all the families were there. It was like a busy kind of vibe, so we would have sculpted up and made an impression. He sold the gig out. He was like on the up, so it was like,
Starting point is 00:19:30 there was a nice buzz around the band as well. Yeah. I think that was one of the first gigs where I didn't drive the van, which was nice. Yeah, yeah. So when are you getting married? I don't know. We just moved into a new house
Starting point is 00:19:40 and we're doing that up. This is so boring, but every time I like, look at wedding price, we're like, could get a new bathroom for that. Do you know what I mean? Just do it at home, like, yeah. I know, well, Tom did it so well, I don't want to... I feel like if he did it, everyone would just compare it
Starting point is 00:19:53 and Tom's would definitely win, do you know what I mean? He's saying nothing. No, it's the truth, though. People who came to the wedding were like, that's the best wedding I've ever been to. It was a good vibe. It was amazing. It was after lockdown, though, everyone hadn't seen each other. Everyone was so happy to be out. It was a good vibe it was amazing it was after lockdown though everyone had seen each other everyone was like ready to be out yeah it was a min vibe so i want to do that to be fair we both got like quite small immediate families
Starting point is 00:20:12 you could do a small one yeah we're just going to go away to the lake district i could i couldn't do that my family's huge which is your favorite lake i love lake windermere i'm the classic i'm basically when it comes to my legs I love Lake Windermere. I'm the classic. I'm basic when it comes to my lakes in Windermere. Are you a big bell walker? I love walking, yeah. Do you? Hiking's my thing, yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:32 So that's one of your simple pleasures? Yeah, 100%. Really? Yeah. It's the only thing is that I don't take any mute. I don't take my headphones. I try and leave my phone. Just be at one with the world. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:42 Oh, man, yeah. And I've got into all the nature and stuff. I take my shoes off sometimes to ground myself. I go well into it. I love it, though. Fabulous. I've got a dog, me and the dog there. That's where I'm the most happiest, I reckon. What's your dog called?
Starting point is 00:20:53 Pep. Pep. After Guardiola? Yeah. Are you a Blue? Yeah, we're City fans. Are you United fans? Sorry, guys.
Starting point is 00:21:02 It's good for us. It's been a tough year. It's really funny how, like, as soon as you say United, it's like, Tom's ready to swear up. I know. I'm ready to throw a pie. I've got loads of mates who are United fans. I'm actually bothered by them. Oh, you know what it's like.
Starting point is 00:21:19 I like Manchester. Yeah, Manchester's better, you know. So what are some of your simple pleasures that you and Katie do? Chessing? Oh, no, mum! Jesus! Right! What are you laughing at?
Starting point is 00:21:30 Why is she laughing at her, Julie? The brothers, eh? It's funny though, I like that. If we'd just gone for a fucking walking, Bev, for a moment. What would you like to drink together? I don't think you'd... Forget, take Katie out of the equation for a second. Going for like a nice meal.
Starting point is 00:21:38 Yeah, yeah. We love going on. Going on holidays. Yeah, yeah. Going on holidays. Going on holidays. Going on holidays. Going on holidays. Going on holidays. Going on holidays. Going on holidays. We might drink together, I don't think we need to. Take Katie out of the equation for a second. Going for a nice meal.
Starting point is 00:21:47 Yeah. Going on holiday. I love holidays. Katie works a lot, so it's hard. We don't really have that much time. When we do have the time, we like to do nice things, if you know what I mean. Where are you planning to go on holiday?
Starting point is 00:21:59 Because obviously you've got festival season now, right? And it kind of takes up the whole. Exactly. You usually marry the two, don't you? So we're going to Lisbon in a few months. Lisbon? I'm doing the same one as you. Are you doing it? Yeah. Call your mum.
Starting point is 00:22:12 Yeah, and then I'm going to Romania after and somewhere else. So, yeah. Oh, that's nice. We'll have to meet up. Yeah, absolutely. We'll have to go for a bolo. Such a bolo. Yeah, we call it bolo. A bolo day. That's what they call their bolo day. Oh, sorry, you call it a bolo. Yeah, we call it a bolo. A bolo day. That's what they call their bolo day. Oh, sorry, you call it a bolo. Yeah, a bolo. Yeah, I mean, yeah, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:22:28 I mean, I feel like I need to try it with you. We're in Lisbon anyway, we should probably eat some. There's some really good restaurants in Lisbon. What day are you doing? We're doing the same day as Alta Monkeys. Yeah, Alta Monkeys, I'm the same day. Class. I just like the pasta.
Starting point is 00:22:40 This is Coe. This is Coe. Sometimes you just think, what a funny job we have. I know. There's nothing like the, we bring some back. What? Sometimes you just think what a funny job we have. There's nothing like the, we bring some back. What? Castel Donato. Yeah, I love it.
Starting point is 00:22:51 I don't know if they'll travel well. That is gorgeous. That's his favourite. He absolutely loves them, doesn't he? So come on, let's go to one of the main questions. Yeah. Last supper. Last supper.
Starting point is 00:23:03 You can both go. I think I know what they're going to say. I feel like I know what the main dish is going to be. I feel like we should... We're very similar, so I'll do the one side. We've talked enough about Bolo, someone's going to have to say it. Drink of choice. Drink of choice, lager. Start a main.
Starting point is 00:23:15 Lager. Lager. I'll have a lager. OK, fabulous. Thanks, Biro. Biro Moretti. So, OK, so you... Starter.
Starting point is 00:23:23 Yeah. What are we doing for starters? Depends what we're having, right? I'm straight up. Wait, Vera. I'm in already. I'm in already. So, OK, so you're a starter. Yeah. What are we doing for starters? Depends what we're having, right? I'm straight up. Wait, then. Go on, you do yours. Are we at Manchester now? Are we going to do it together or are we going to do it separately? I think we should do what, basically. Yeah, do separate.
Starting point is 00:23:36 Can we do like a combined set? I don't want to break up the band, but... No, but you've got to... There's a starter, right? Right. And the Ivy do it and it's that warm bread with just salt and butter. We do our own thing as well. I see it! All right, you start. Yeah, they do that bread, it's just that warm bread with the salt on it and butter, the Ivy.
Starting point is 00:23:52 And it just makes you really happy. And it's just amazing. I mean, it shouldn't be a starter, should it? It's bread and butter. That should come free. I think you can have that and then you can have a starter. Do you reckon? Yeah, because you need to mop your starter up with the warm bread.
Starting point is 00:24:01 That's true, yeah, you need to get involved with that. I'm going to try that. I like a starter, I like a soup. I sucker for a soup. Oh, which soup? Yeah, you're a soup man, aren't you? Like, a lot of soups, like, the classic ones, really. Leek and potato, tomato and basil, tomato and red pepper. No, your classic soups. Leek and potato!
Starting point is 00:24:15 Cabbage and coriander. Any sort of soup, really. You need to get a soup maker. A thick, creamy soup. Who makes the soup for you? I don't make it at home. I've never actually made soup. I just like it when I go out. Do you just buy it or you like it out in a restaurant? I like it in a restaurant, yeah. I need to start making soup, to be fair.
Starting point is 00:24:29 Yeah, it's so easy. It's because cake doesn't look soup, so you're making it for one then, aren't you? It's a batch freeze, babe. You can take it on the tour bus. I'll do it when I get home. Do you know what they need, Jessie? My chicken soup. Lenny's chicken soup is the blind. Is it?
Starting point is 00:24:43 With matzo balls. Yeah. She took it on tour. I took it on tour. And we had a game where people could win the chicken soup. Cos it's that good? Yeah, it's... Oh, my. Pea and ham, I like pea and ham. We've got my instant making ice, pea and ham. And leave the ham in on the bone and, like, let it all fall apart. I like soup, but it reminds me of being ill. Yes.
Starting point is 00:25:02 OK, so you're starting with bread, but what else? He's really simple, isn't he? Yeah, yeah. Come on, come on. What's next? Just give you bread. Burrata. Burrata's nice, innit? Burrata's good. Do you like burrata?
Starting point is 00:25:16 I do. You're not a fan? Why don't you... You'd still bloody eat it if it was alright in front of you. I would not. What's that starter at Butto though? That like, erm... What's it called? That bean paste that you can put on the bread?
Starting point is 00:25:27 Was it fava? No, it's pate. It's like a summer pate. No, it's tapenade. It's like an olive paste. No, it's like a bean. It's a cannelloni bean pate. That's what it is. Oh, cannelloni bean pate. It's delicious. So I'd add that on that warm salty bread. Did you have the anchovies there too? No, I think Charlie did. They do nice dough balls there as well for a starter.
Starting point is 00:25:49 Do they? Brutto. Brutto's my favourite by the way. But you live in Manchester, don't you? Yeah, but we're down for a lot of press for the album. And we got a recommendation off Miles Kane, we were like, right, we'll go. We've got the starter, the main. Are we going bolognese? Are we adding something to it?
Starting point is 00:26:04 I'll go bolognese, straight up bolognese are we adding something to it i'll go bolognese straight up bolognese really i'm going to go bologna bolo bologna i'm going to call it i'm going to call it from now on if i could wake up and have a pill that made me full and give me all the nutrition i need in the day i do it i'm not a massive foodie oh my gosh yeah i'm not a massive foodie. Oh, I'm not a massive foodie. But then I say that, but then if I have something really bad, I'm like, this is disgusting. We've got some pizza. Would you like a bit of pizza now? I buzz off pizza to be fair. You'd love a pizza or not?
Starting point is 00:26:35 Okay, let's get some pizza. He's hungry, he hasn't eaten. Oh, I don't know. Can we get the pizza up here? I don't need to know. You got the pizza? Yeah, we want to look after you, Dan. I love that shirt, by the way.
Starting point is 00:26:44 It's Casablanca. It's amazing. Great, thank know. Do you want the pizza? Yeah, we want to look after you, darling. I love that shirt, by the way. It's Casablanca. It's amazing. Great, thank you. Thank you. So a pill that will fuel you for the rest of the day. Yeah, I say, but I think my problem is I could have a Gregg's pasty and be like, oh, delicious. Happy as Larry. Love it.
Starting point is 00:27:00 Or I could have like a dead nice meal, but equally as delicious. I can't, do you know what I mean? Don't discriminate. Yeah, I like that. Yeah, I can't, do you know what I mean? Like that in my head. Yeah, I like that. Yeah, I can't. Yeah, I'm out. He's busted. You've married into that family. The rest of them are foodies.
Starting point is 00:27:10 That gets what's weird. Thank God. My mum and dad and Katie have all like dead big foodies, love food, love, I'm just like, ugh. Just like the blob in the corner. Okay, come on on to you, Tom. Like he's like. Go on.
Starting point is 00:27:22 Drummers are weird, aren't we? Yeah, you'd have a bolognese, tagging the telly. And then. I said it before, roast. I love a Sunday roast. Yeah, me too. I've had a lot of food now. I love curry as well. Joe's dad makes a really good curry. What curry is it? Just like a chicken curry. You're not going down Curry Mile, are you?
Starting point is 00:27:39 I'm not, no. I should do. I'd go roast with a nice sirloin joint, you know what I mean, likeelle. I've not, no. I should do. I'd go roast with a nice sirloin joint, you know what I mean? Like a fancy one. You've got to go in. Now you're making me want to change mine. All the trimmings. I want to see roast. You can have a roast. Now, pudding. Are we big into pudding?
Starting point is 00:27:58 Yes. Yes. Well, I wouldn't say I'm huge huge, but I like the staples. That's where I come alive. I like the vanilla New York cheesecake. Cheesecake? I like cheesecake with fresh cream on it. Well, that's not my favourite. My favourite is sticky toffee pudding with custard. Do you know how many people love that?
Starting point is 00:28:13 On the podcast, it's probably the main pudding. I feel basic now, but I love it. No, people love it. Do you know what I love about dessert? When you're mixed hot and cold. Yeah, ice cream on the top of the sticky ice cream. That's a winner, that. Do I look for my dessert when you mix hot and cold? Yeah. Yeah That's a winner that So what is it sticky toffee for you I do like sticky toffee what did you have the other day on catering that you are
Starting point is 00:28:39 Velvet red velvet So, yeah, so you get all the cakes. So, yeah, I'm just like... Like, she makes these little... She makes these cookies, but she just likes the balls, and you just, like... She just puts them in the freezer and you just shove it on her thing and put it in the oven for 20 minutes. Is that her job, baking? No, it's not her job, no. She's got a vintage shop.
Starting point is 00:28:58 A vintage... She's a blogger, my girlfriend. Is she? Yeah. Yeah, and now she's got a vintage shop as well. It's called Top of the Town. Is it in Manchester? In Stockport. Stockport. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:08 And so we were talking just before we came on, you used to go to Abersoch, Tom, didn't you? Yeah, well, I used to go to my holidays when I was a kid were caravan holidays in Wales. So we do Crickier, Abersoch. Crickier, yeah. Where else have we gone? Me and my mum, my dad and brother. What was like a memorable meal from then?
Starting point is 00:29:24 Fish and chips? Yeah, fish and chips, probably. There's a very good fish and chips shop in Pritheli. Do you remember you threw up soon after? Oh! Those windy roads. Pritheli, where the smallest house in Britain is. Oh, I don't know. That's Conway, I think. I'm getting confused.
Starting point is 00:29:39 They used to be in Port Maddock. There used to be a really good record shop. I need to speak to you about a few more things. What do you suggest I add to my rider that you couldn't live without on your rider? Toilet roll. Toilet roll? Toilet roll in dressing rooms is always really thin and really abrasive. Jessie, we've never found that.
Starting point is 00:29:58 That's very interesting. You probably never thought about it before. I've never thought about it, but I'm now thinking about how many shits you do at a blind date. OK, right, OK, so I need to change my toilet roll. Any particular toilet roll you're recommending? Yeah, you just need to go for a quilted Androx. Quilted, OK. Premium. Wow.
Starting point is 00:30:13 OK, this is very interesting. I will absolutely take stock of that. Anything you've got for me, Tom? We make a blossom salad. What's a blossom salad? That was the last tour of a blossom salad. We tried to... What, like the Jennifer...
Starting point is 00:30:23 Have you seen the Jennifer Aniston salad on Instagram? Yeah, I saw it. Apparently it's like the salad that Jennifer Aniston had. Every day. Every day. Have we got the same algorithms? Maybe. Actually, what happened to you?
Starting point is 00:30:35 You're not like Jennifer Aniston. Yeah, well, that's, I think, what everyone's hoping. So she had this, like, chippy quinoa mint thing for whatever, how many years, and everyone's making it. So I need to know what the blossom salad is. I had just a basic, like, spring onions, tomato, lettuce. Peppers.
Starting point is 00:30:55 You like the peppers in it, don't you? Yeah, I do. What's the dressing? Olive oil, bit of lemon, salt and pepper. It's very, very simple. So what do you have it with? It's on tour. It's not great, to be honest, is it? No, it's on tour.
Starting point is 00:31:04 It's like... It's just to try it's not great to be honest, is it? No, it's on tour, it's just... It's just to try and get you five a day in. Yeah, because otherwise we'd just have a ham and crisp butty. That was what we had for years and we were like, we're approaching 30 now, we can't have a ham and crisp butty every day. I mean, they're approaching 30. Won't get into these skinny jeans. Where are these jeans from?
Starting point is 00:31:23 These are Zara women. They're fabulous. Yeah, well, a lot of women's clothes. They're great, aren't they? Thank you so much for being on Table Manners, being such good sports. Thank you, honestly. And we just need to know whether you have good Table Manners yourself. I think I use, like, the wrong fork and the wrong hand.
Starting point is 00:31:40 You know, the hands... Yeah, but I don't know if that... Is your knife on your left? Yeah. You know, my arms maybe could improve. I reckon I may be sticking out a little bit. Joe, what do you think? Yeah, I don't think I have. I'm too selfish in that moment. Always start eating before the rest of them. Yeah, if I'm hungry, I'm hungry. Leave me alone.
Starting point is 00:32:01 If you are, you can have me cranky or you can have me eating earlier. I agree. I think you're all going to be me cranky or you can have me eating earlier. I agree. I think you're all going to be very good friends when you go on festivals. Just let me give you a tip. Never let Jessie order the food and let it be a sharing plate. Why? Because I order the whole table in one. Yeah, you order the whole table and you need to do it before everyone else.
Starting point is 00:32:19 Funny enough, I said this before. If there's a piece to share, I'm like terrified. I just eat it all. You can do the same thing. Excuse your noose. Yeah, I'm not doing anything weird here. Absolutely. I think you're strange for not eating it all. Tom and Joe, thank you so much for being on our very special
Starting point is 00:32:32 Birramoretti Table Manners Live. Thank you to our audience. Thanks, guys. I hope you're having a gorgeous festival. Yeah, see you later. See you later. Woo! Yeah, see you later. Back in the hotel room, back in the dressing room.
Starting point is 00:33:00 Fratelli's next door to us. Yeah, it's rock and roll here, Mum. Yeah, it is. And my eyelashes are still on. And they were lovely. What delightful little blossoms they were. I don't know if they were little, but they were so sweet. Those pink trousers.
Starting point is 00:33:14 Fabulous. You need a pair, darling. Anyway, we had a really lovely time with Blossom. Thank you to Bira Moretti for setting us up. Also, I think it's right that Bolognese gets its... Did you just say Bolognese? Bolognese. You're saying it differently. How do you say it, producer Alan?
Starting point is 00:33:29 Bolognese. Bolognese. Bolognese. Bolognese. Is that how you're supposed to say it? Yeah. Okay, well, it's getting its rightful adoration, I think. And what a fitting tribute to it on a day when we're sponsored by an Italian beer.
Starting point is 00:33:42 I know, perfect. Thank you so much to Blossoms. Thank you to B to Blossoms. Thank you to Birra Moretti.
