Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey friends, it's Nikaela from the podcast Side Hustle Pro. I'm always looking for ways to keep my kids entertained without screens. And the Yoto Mini has been a total lifesaver. My kids are obsessed. Yoto is a screen-free audio player where kids just pop in a card and listen. Hours of stories, music, podcasts, and more. And no screens or ads. With hundreds of options for ages 0 to 12, it's the perfect gift they'll go back to again and again.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Check it out at yotoplay.com. P-O-P-L-A-Y.com. Hi, it's Morgan from Off the Shelf, and I'm here to tell you about Paramount Pictures, new movie Regretting You, a film adaptation of Colleen Hoover's best-selling book, Regretting You. If there's anything I love more than an adaptation, it's an adaptation that's going to make me feel something. And with Josh Boone, yes, the director of the Fultonar stars, at the helm, I'm ready.
Starting point is 00:00:51 Between the first loves, secret relationships, and second chances, I am prepared to be going through every single emotion. This film also has a stacked cast starring Alison Williams, McKenna Grace, Dave Franco, Mason Fames, and so many more. Go see Regretting You Only in Theatre's October 24th. Hello and welcome to Tablemanors. I'm here in my house with my mom, Melanie. Hi, Mum. Hi. It's a bit of a miserable day. I'd call it sweater weather. That may give you a hint of who we've got today. Oh, really? Yes, it's an S&L sketch that she was a part of
Starting point is 00:01:29 I think we've got a person who's been so many different people She's been Camilla Harris Imagine if she could do a Lenny Maybe all ask her to do a Lenny at the end Imagine I think I think no one can impersonate the real thing Okay Yes, she's been Kamala Harris Yeah, Beyonce.
Starting point is 00:01:46 Beyonce, oh yeah Christina Aguilera runs are Chef's Kiss Um, Maya Angelou Yeah, Abba Abba One of the boys, I think she gets. She's brilliant. She's also in one of the most iconic, funny films of, well, our lifetime bridesmaids.
Starting point is 00:02:08 She's also the star and executive producer of a very, very successful show on Apple TV Plus called Lute. They're in their third season and that's why she's coming over. She plays Molly, Molly Wells, who is a billionaire who basically is a billionaire because she inherits a load from a divorce because her husband's having an affair. And she doesn't really know what to do with it. And she finds out that she has a housing. Is it a housing? She has a housing charity for homeless people.
Starting point is 00:02:35 And it takes her a long time to adapt to the notion of homelessness and poverty. But she's an adorable character and charming and endearing and there's such great characters in it. Her assistant, Nicholas. Love Nicholas. Arthur. Is she going to get together with Arthur in season three? Who knows, you'll find out in episode one.
Starting point is 00:02:57 She's a very busy woman. She's got four children. And also, her husband. Her husband at the moment is, it's being proclaimed that it's the greatest film of the last 30 years. Yeah. And they're both doing a program. I'm sure it's very, very busy at the moment for both of them. We have Maya Rudolph coming to New Cross for some grub.
Starting point is 00:03:19 Good. She's also a real foodie. She's presented a TV show called Baking It. And she's also done a kind of tour around the best eateries, kind of like an Anthony Bourdain style thing where she goes to the best kind of hole in the home. Well, you've tried your hardest, Jess. I heard that she quite like fried.
Starting point is 00:03:36 She's, I think she likes everything. But she, I'd heard her say that she liked fried chicken. I've done a version of fried chicken. I've done schnitzel, which is from the mob app because it always serves me well. Kitty Coles' recipe on there. It's a hazelnut and spices schnitzel. with an orange and fennel pickle that I made yesterday
Starting point is 00:03:58 and I have to, I'm putting my hands up, I had some help today. My gorgeous nanny, fabulous Rosie, is the queen of the potato and I'm not fussed about potatoes, as you've probably known. I know, you cut your hand off rather than, neat one. So she's made these delicious Parmesan potatoes that actually are quite delicious. And then what have you made for Pud? I've made an apple, pecan and miso.
Starting point is 00:04:24 That is my idea of heaven. Is it? Yes. Okay. I thought that. I thought I'm not just going to do a straight tart tart tartan. I'm going to make it a bit more. Which generation are we at now?
Starting point is 00:04:36 A, B. Oh, okay. I don't think my four-year-old's caring about miso. Okay, so then it's more of your gen. I'd say millennial gen Z. Meno. Yeah, mezo. I'd never even heard of Miso.
Starting point is 00:04:48 It's like salted caramel, well. Yeah, that's all it is. It's like a salted caramel tart-tat. Yeah. Delicious. Yeah. And then we just ordered. on delivery some cream and ice cream and creme fresh.
Starting point is 00:04:57 Yeah. So we have options. Because I loved it in the house. So a really light meal, really. Yeah. Maya Rudolph coming up on table windows. Maya. Hi.
Starting point is 00:05:22 You're here and I already love you. come in and you've taken all the drinks that I've offered to you. Three drinks. I know, but you know what? That was so I looked less, I mean, more generous than I was because there was only a tiny bit of coffee. No, this feels right. It was just a little, because I didn't sleep. I mean, I got here a day before yesterday.
Starting point is 00:05:40 And I had that night where you think, okay, I'm going to get to bed at 10 so I can get over the jet lag. And then I woke up at three. Do you not take melatonin? I do sometimes I didn't last night. Do you need some? Right now? Not right now, but I got you. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:54 Oh, thank you. It was just in LA for like four days last week. That's a hard turnaround. It was crazy. So I'm like, I just did my last day of Melitone. Now I need to wean myself off. I'm like this for the children's at lunches. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:07 Thank you for being here. Thank you for having me in your home. It's a pleasure. So you're in promoting Lute. Yeah. Season three. Yes. Which is brilliant.
Starting point is 00:06:17 I started it. Molly is on a desert island after a plane crash. Wink, wink. It's so charming Oh good, I'm glad And the outfits are fat Yeah, that's the fun part There's a lot of, I feel like you're wearing a lot of
Starting point is 00:06:31 Tala Marmo I don't know if you are Like the caftans I love a Tala Marmo caftan I love a caftan I feel like Molly You're talking about that white fringy one Yeah and like I feel like you were wearing one In season one as well
Starting point is 00:06:43 Like Molly has good taste She loves to dress up And I think that if it were You know If there's any chance for a theme She loves the theme, which I think is really fun. Lovely. Yeah, I don't know where that came from,
Starting point is 00:06:57 but we started that tradition in the first season and we haven't stopped. It's really fun. Do you keep any of the clothes? You mean steal them? Yes. Yeah, okay, fine. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:06 Well, you're like the exact producer. Yeah, I'm allowed to take some things home. I've got a couple weddings and I had to go to my cousin's wedding in Italy, so I borrowed a couple things. So I borrowed a couple things. This season I borrowed a couple things because my cousin got married in May in Poolia. Oh, gorgeous. Yeah, it was gorgeous.
Starting point is 00:07:23 Coolie is gorgeous. I stomped on, oh my God, the food was incredible, and I drank so much and stomped on grapes. Oh. For the new, so you made the new wine for us to drink next year? I guess. Is that sanity? Was that what they did at the wedding?
Starting point is 00:07:39 Yeah. Oh. So you missed a trick there, darling. Oh, I got married in Greece. That was never an option. We could have done olives. I do love Greece. Where did you get married?
Starting point is 00:07:48 I got married on an island that we've been going to forever called Scopoulos. So I've heard of it But I'm still tiny But I still feel like I'm so new to Greece Because you can go to one island And feel like you have no idea Completely different Yeah
Starting point is 00:08:02 I've been to Antiparos Oh Antiparos I hear Antiparos is amazing It's wonderful Really good food Really good food But everything tastes good in Greece That's true
Starting point is 00:08:12 Everything the peaches and the tomatoes You wonder what you've been eating When you eat a tomato in Greece I agree with you And I feel like I had never properly had Greek yogurt until I went to Greece and then I thought oh I'm so embarrassed for myself
Starting point is 00:08:26 I thought I was eating Greek yogurt at home it doesn't translate no it's not the same it's just thick and creamy and lovely and then the honey is better there oh my God it's incredible our island is particularly good for honey I feel like everyone's going to say their island's particularly good anyway our island is the greenest and the bluest
Starting point is 00:08:44 I believe that I've got the door open but we can close it now because I've been trying to get rid of the fumes of frying chicken I heard you like fried chicken. Oh, great. I love good food. Yeah. So whatever you make, I'll eat it. Because you've done a few food programs. Yeah, I guess you're right. Like, yeah, like a baking one, but also you did one that everyone wants to do, which kind of Phil Rosenthal does as well, but you did one like a kind of Anthony Bourdain style one where you went to like, and it was in 2020. Oh, I was the, I was the narrator. Oh, that's annoying. I know. I wanted to be in it, but instead I just got to look at all of it. But I learned
Starting point is 00:09:20 a lot. They did get to send me some things. They were pretty amazing. So do you travel a lot with your four children? I mean, I don't think I travel as much as I could or should because of school. Isn't that boring? Are they at home now? They're at home now. And where's home? California, Los Angeles. I grew up in Los Angeles. So it's my home town. So I, yeah. Do you still love it? I thought that I was a New Yorker. I chose New York, but then I ended up going back. homes but I'm near my family so I feel like it's important like my parents of there yeah and that's where they should be yeah my kids should know their grandparents yeah I was speaking to a fellow Los Angeles what do you call yourself Los Angeles Los Angeles um Los Angelina
Starting point is 00:10:07 Los Angelina that's what Jimmy Kimbell says Los Angeles okay well you'd be a Lena wouldn't you sure I don't know I never thought about that yeah I like that so a fellow Los Angeles said that there's, Los Angeles, you are a different breed to the ones that come in. We're not. That's how Londoners feel too. Correct. We're not, we're not the imports that make it look bad. We're the cool ones that are like, we're low key.
Starting point is 00:10:38 We're just more low key. Los Angeles is sprawling in the same way here. Like you have a lot of different microclimates and different neighborhoods. And people really retreat to their homes. You get London here, which is nice because you have a place where people all congregate the proper city. Los Angeles is kind of just sprawling. It's enormous. You don't have a West End, really?
Starting point is 00:11:01 No. Like where all the theatre community is. Downtown has that stuff, but it doesn't have the same. So I'd always craved moving to New York because it has that city excitement. I hate to be rude. She is from Los Angeles, so she likes it. So careful. It's okay.
Starting point is 00:11:18 I love Los Angeles. But you can, I didn't make it. You can say whatever you want. All right. So I love it. And my other daughter lives there. Oh, really? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:26 And then, but when you're there, it's very easy. I can drive everywhere. I can park everywhere. Everything is cheap to park. It's like they almost give you the parking. And then, but the one thing is you, everyone walks around looking like they're either going to a yoga class. Isn't that crazy?
Starting point is 00:11:44 They've always got something rolled under their arm and gym pants on. That's right. And trainers. That's right. You go to New York and you suddenly see everyone looking quite chic. Yeah. Their glasses are beautiful. But that's London to me too.
Starting point is 00:11:58 Yeah. I think that was also the excitement to me growing up and seeing that cities, people got dressed. Yeah. And they got dressed. They got dressed and they were surrounded by culture. You know, that was exciting to me. I mean, we have culture in Los Angeles. It's just a different way of doing it.
Starting point is 00:12:15 But there's just, there's more sort of things to unearth and. find in Los Angeles, you have to know. Yeah, which I think is kind of a nice magical secret about it. Can we kind of take it back to a memorable meal from your childhood? And who was around the dinner table and what were you eating? I would say, well, it shifted over the years. I mean, I was partially raised by a woman named Magdalena who made chicken enchiladas, which I think might be one of my favorite things in the world. What goes into a chicken enchilada? Chicken. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:54 And it's a red sauce. Is it hot? I don't like spicy, spicy. I don't like spicy. I can't. I'm just a wimp. I can't do it. Jesse loves it. Do you? I'm not like a spicy Indian. No, I'm not as hardcore as other people.
Starting point is 00:13:11 I'm not a hard for. You've talked about this. You wouldn't do hot ones. No. I wouldn't either. I mean, I'm not getting invited. But are hot ones. Hot ones. that now, but you might be invited. But what is?
Starting point is 00:13:20 Explain? Please, my explain. Hot Ones is a show where you eat spicy, spicy food. They give you, like chicken wings or if you're vegetarian, obviously it's some sort of faux nugget, but they have all these different hot sauces and they go up incrementally. Why would anyone do that? I agree with you. Why would anyone do that?
Starting point is 00:13:40 Here's my fear. I can't stand the heat and I think it makes me nervous that my throat would close on camera. and I'd have a panic attack on camera. So I was like, I don't want to do that. And then I've watched people do it, and I've seen them hallucinate. I've seen people hallucinate. From a heart source? Yes.
Starting point is 00:13:57 Bloody how? Why would you do that? But I mean, weirdly, you have kind of done it twice, though. Yeah, fake, but just fake. But well done, because you kind of have had the experience without having the pain. I love, well, the host is phenomenal and I love him, Sean, and I told him, I love you, and I told him, I love you, but I'll never do your show. So Maya did it as Beyonce once.
Starting point is 00:14:15 Oh, you kidding. And then also is Molly. which goes terribly wrong. I actually did it as Beyonce twice. Oh, really? Yeah, what a weirdo. The thing is about eating something hot, my nose runs. Yeah, my nose runs.
Starting point is 00:14:29 It's not pretty. So all I'm doing is blowing my nose all the time. So I definitely wouldn't go on hot ones. People get crazy, but I can see the two of you doing it now that you're, but if you like hot stuff, you can eat it and she can talk. You can't. She's just like an absolute pussy and I'm like, you're half a pussy. At Nando's, I'm like a medium girl. Oh, no, I'm...
Starting point is 00:14:47 And you're lemon and herb. That's the perry, peri. Yeah. Yeah. I've seen it. And you're a medium, yeah. Would your husband go for hot? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:56 But I can't. Extra hot? I know. Who needs extra hot? I want to taste my food. Hot? That sounds unpleasant. Silly.
Starting point is 00:15:04 So, chicken enchiladas by Magdalena. By Magdalena. She was our living, everything. She helped raise me and, you know, I mean... Is she Mexican? She was from El Salvador. El Salvador. Magdalena Amaya, which is so interesting because my name is Maya.
Starting point is 00:15:21 Were you called after Maya Angelou? I think so. Yeah. I think so. I think my parents, that was part of this, yeah. And who was around the dinner table? Do you have a brother? My brother, my dad.
Starting point is 00:15:34 And then eventually my stepmom, which is like a whole other portion of growing up. My stepmother's from Kyoto. She's Japanese. And so I grew up eating a lot of home-cooked Japanese food. Amazing. Yeah, which is really amazing. Yeah, and also like really not, before sushi became popular, like it was embarrassing, I think, a little bit to, you know, to eat raw fish. I think people were so, like, and people think Japanese food is just sushi. But really the things we were eating at home were more like home-cooked things and baked fish and lots of beautiful vegetables. And she's an amazing cook, my stepmother. So what would be your pat lunch when you go to school? Would it have like Japanese? Canese influences. I want to say it was, but it wasn't.
Starting point is 00:16:20 No, I think at that point I was sort of like, you know, trying to be a little bit cooler because people didn't understand that it was cool yet. So I probably brought something, well, I probably brought something boring because my mom, when my mom was alive, my mom was really in a health food and nobody, there was no heroin, there was no whole foods, there was nothing. There was this place, Quins, and it was a health food store. And we weren't allowed to eat sugar cereal, no soda. so we got puffed rice cereal and then we would drizzle honey on it.
Starting point is 00:16:52 My mom was a total health nut. It was, but now I like eating like that. Do your kids like? Do you know my kids love junk. Okay. Love it. Like, I don't know, you don't have canes here, do you? What's canes?
Starting point is 00:17:06 It's this chicken place. It's like chicken fingers. What do you call them tender? You call them tenders, yeah. Yeah. Well, chicken guzsion. Guzsion. They're guzion on.
Starting point is 00:17:17 Long bits, not like chicken nuggets. You're long bits. That sounds better than fingers. Aren't you part of a kind of dynasty of fast food? Isn't it Wendy? Is it Wendy? Yes. How did you know that?
Starting point is 00:17:28 We know everything. You really do. Have you got a black card for Wendy's? So you just get all you can eat. I wish I did. I think you can ask. Growing up, we didn't have Wendy's in Los Angeles. So it was very exotic to go to Miami and visit my family.
Starting point is 00:17:44 But my dad's father, owned a chain of Wendy's in southern Florida. So I thought it was really cool that we'd go there and like go to Wendy. Is Wendy's takeout? Yeah, it's hamburgers. Is it like In and Out? In and Out's better. In and Out.
Starting point is 00:18:02 I never got In and Out till the last time I was in L.L. Did you like it? Yeah. I'd tell you what I'm like. I like it a specific way. I like it because I like the raw onions, which are very sweet. Somehow they get sweet onions. They do.
Starting point is 00:18:16 and I like the lettuce and the tomato. So it kind of tasted fresh. I think that's their whole mara. I didn't have the chips. How do you take your in and out burger? Thank you for asking. I like it animal style. What you mean?
Starting point is 00:18:32 The animal style is sauteed onions and what they call spread, which is their version of a sauce. I think it's probably the closest thing to like a Thousand Island perhaps. It's sort of that when you mix. ketchup and mayonnaise together and you get that kind of peachy, tangy sauce. But I didn't see. But I never saw animal style up on the name. No, they have a secret menu.
Starting point is 00:18:58 They have so many secret menus. It's so fun. Sometimes I get it protein style if I'm feeling. Protein style. Well, you don't get a bun. You get it wrapped in lettuce. And you get protein animal style? Yes, I do.
Starting point is 00:19:08 It's very messy, but I do. Did you know this? I did, Mom. Everyone knows. I didn't know it. They just said, which burger do you want? And you look on the thing. and you say it and you know it's a thing oh bless you oh shut up bless you no i can also get animal
Starting point is 00:19:22 style chips as well fries yeah you can you can say chips it's okay i i think it's better yeah do you like being in england yeah what's your kind of do you have a go-to place are you going to tell me disham no okay but i just recently discovered disheum breakfast oh it's really good it's really good banon with the bacon and like It's lovely, and you don't have to stand in line. I usually stay in Covent. There's no line for breakfast, and it's massive in there. Yeah, that's kind of how we discovered it.
Starting point is 00:19:56 And somebody said, you know, they have a really good breakfast, and it's a beautiful menu. We usually stay in Covent Garden, so I know Covent Garden best. And my husband made a movie here, I don't know how many years ago. So we lived here for like a good three-month stint, and I really started to get to know. we were actually staying more close to Soho So I kind of know I know it was like a dream life I lived at the ham yard
Starting point is 00:20:23 In an apartment It was a dream And I wasn't even working Was this pre-kids or with kids With kids? Did they come over to you? Yeah all the kids stayed Which film was this?
Starting point is 00:20:32 Phantom thread Okay Paul Thomas Anson is your partner Yes Who has got a massive film out at the moment Yes We were just here for it For one battle after another
Starting point is 00:20:42 It's doing quite well Yeah it's doing really People are calling it the greatest film of the last 30 years. People are crazy for it. That's phenomenal. It is really, really incredible. It's an incredible movie. I have to be honest.
Starting point is 00:20:57 You should go see it in the cinema. I'm definitely going in the cinema. But he shot it in VistaVision, which is a camera that I don't think has been projected for, the film hasn't been projected for 65 years or something crazy. I think the last movie was The Searchers, apparently. I hope I got that right, Paul. But it's being shown in VistaVision here or in 70mm. You should see it in either format because it really is an incredible experience to be in a movie theater and see film that way.
Starting point is 00:21:29 It just takes over your entire body. It's tremendous. Do you feel partly responsible for the success because you are his muse, obviously? Obviously. I mean, it's obvious, right? Yeah, of course. You can, yeah, you can, you can smell it. When you were here, do you go to the theater?
Starting point is 00:21:46 I have, yeah, but the times that I've been here for a long amount of time, if I'm with the kids, I see kids stuff. Have you been in the, have you been in the theater here? No, I wish. Yeah, you need to. I think when the kids get a little bit older and they don't have a school schedule, I do see that being my future. How old are your kids? My oldest is about to turn 20, and my youngest is 12. You have a 20-year-old.
Starting point is 00:22:09 Can you believe that? No, I can't believe it. Right? I can't believe it. That's how I feel. 20, almost 20, almost 16, 14 and 12. Oh, gosh, they're kind of in the midst of like exams and... So many teenagers. But it's also the anxiety when they go out now. I don't like it.
Starting point is 00:22:28 Yeah, it's hard. And I don't like that we don't live in a city like being in London or being in New York and you know that they're walking or taking the train like they're getting cars all the time and I hate it. I hate it. How many drive in yours? My oldest drive. Yeah, which is actually very responsible. Do any of them want to go into like...
Starting point is 00:22:46 Probably. Do you kind of not want them to? Yeah. Because I feel the same, but I'm also like... But what else are they going to do? Like, they were raised by artists, so of course, I love that too. If I'm being honest and it's not, it doesn't have anything to do with talking to you guys. I've always said this out loud to them.
Starting point is 00:23:04 I have a one in four chance of them being a chef. I think that would be an amazing thing to have one of my kids be a great chef. Well, I'm sure they will be. Like, let's hope so. Well, let's talk about, can you cook? I can cook. I wish I... Yes, I can cook.
Starting point is 00:23:19 Okay, if we were coming around to yours for dins, what would you be serving us? The most recent thing that I've really been enjoying making is like a homemade version of a miso cod, but more like a salmon. Salmon with miso, like almost like a terriaki, but like a sweet miso. And are you making the salmon kind of break up like the cod does where it's... It's like that melt in your mouth. Yeah, so the top is a bit caramel. Yeah, yum. And it gets kind of like crispy and gooey.
Starting point is 00:23:49 I'm going to be listening, but I'm also sorting out the food. So keep on telling me. So you're going to serve your meso salmon with what? I, okay, so the kids love to look at things on Instagram. My oldest daughter, Pearl, loves to find recipes. And we've found this recipe for, I forgot what they're called, but you take a potato and you put a chopstick underneath and you slice it. They sit really, really, really thin.
Starting point is 00:24:12 Oh, Hassel. Hustle back. Yes. Those are delicious. I know. But you know what I do? I don't have the time to do that. I really just throw sweet potatoes in the oven.
Starting point is 00:24:22 I love a sweet potato maybe more than anything in the world. Do you? Why? I don't know. They're so good. You find them boring? Yeah, a little bit. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:24:32 Don't be sorry. Yeah, I don't mind them, but it's not my go-to. No, what's your go-to? A normal potato probably all right. Well, you can't go wrong with it. than normal potato. Ever. Do you have a meal where you all sit around together? You try and say, well, this is safe. Or do you, in the evening, do you try me together? We used to when they were little, but now I feel like, I don't know about you, but I feel like having children has become, like
Starting point is 00:24:57 everything they do that's after school feels like it's professional level. Like when I was a kid, I'd go to dance class and I had a dance class and I danced and then I would go home. Now my girls are on a dance team or, you know, if they play sports. and they travel. You're like, why can't anyone, why is everything professional? So no one is ever home at the same time. Is that a fennel salad? It's a pickled fennel and, um, and orange salad. That's so exciting. Oh, great. There's this incredible restaurant in New York called Alto Paradiso that has this beautiful fennel salad that has orange in it. Perfect. And I tried to replicate it and I couldn't. Who could Magdalena make chicken soup? Is chicken soup? Chicken soup. Yeah, I do love it.
Starting point is 00:25:41 chicken soup. Me too. So my grandmother would probably be, my dad's side of the family is Jewish and my grandmother, his mother, was the one who would make things first, but she was much more of an appetizer lady. She loved a cocktail and appetizer. So everything that my grandmother made was always a starter. Which was her cocktail?
Starting point is 00:26:02 She was a martini lady or a gimlet, sometimes a gimlet. What's in gimlet? It's lime, I think. Yeah. I think it's lime. Do you like a cocktail? I do. Which one?
Starting point is 00:26:13 I've always been a tequila girl, but lately, my husband's really good at making martinis or negronies. So I like, his martinis are really good. So what's he put in, that's special? Well, we, okay, so he's in love with Dukes here, the bar here. I've never been there. You're kidding. And I hear it does an amazing dirty martini. It's an incredible martini, but you're only allowed to.
Starting point is 00:26:37 They won't serve you more. They're really strong. Because they're so strong. Yeah. Like, I don't even think the vermouth touches the glass. Is that because you're likely to end up in a bar brawl? Correct. Or in a ditch.
Starting point is 00:26:49 Yes. Okay. I had two once and, which I should not, because I don't drink that much. And your head was born. I was, let's just put it this way. The kids said, do you remember when there was that earthquake in London? It's because I fell down. I did.
Starting point is 00:27:07 I really did. Do you like an olive in your? I do. I used to like vodka with onions. Yeah. And then I went to all of... So with onions? Yeah, pickled onions. Have you ever had a pickled onion in it on a little toothpick?
Starting point is 00:27:20 They're nice. Is that a Gibson? I think that's a Gibson. Yeah. But Paul makes... My husband makes them with a lemon, and I'm liking that a lot more now. So does he take the... Just the... Of the brine. Yeah, just a little bit. Yeah. Just a teeny little bit. He knows his vermouths. Like, we were... Last time we were in London, he bought the vermoot, the proper vermouth. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:41 Which for the mood do you like? This guy, Alessandro, at Dukes, it's like... Oh my God, do you know the bartender's name? I'm obsessed. Well, he's really something. He's very special. I mean, I think he's well known now. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:27:55 He's the magic sauce to Dukes. Fair enough. Look at this. So where did you eat last night? In the hotel room. But what I was going to say is I have a restaurant here that I love. Barbary. Do you ever go to Barbary?
Starting point is 00:28:08 No. Oh, Barbary. Jesse knows all the room. Yeah, it's great. They have an incredible salmon there that I would love to be able to make. Oh, my God, that Jerusalem bagel and the spices. Oh, I haven't had that. Oh, it's so good.
Starting point is 00:28:21 Well, they make all that, they make all their own bread. Isn't the Barbary? They're the same people that have Paloma or Paloma. I've never met it. It's in Coven Garden. Oh, yeah, it's. Well, why are we going there for my birthday? It's right across from the porridge shop, 26 grains.
Starting point is 00:28:36 I will tell you why we're not going there for your birthday. Because I'm taking the kids to three. three little pigs at the Unicorn Theatre, which is in London Bridge. And my daughter's got band practice at three 30. So we got to slot you in, Lenny. So I'm glad you're fitting me in, darling. I'm sorry. See what I mean? I feel like everything is professional level.
Starting point is 00:28:54 Like, let's just, let's just play some drums, you know? But it's like, I know, their schedules take over our lives. And I understand it because now that I have one in college, then you turn around and it's over and sort of like, wait, what happened? But hang on, you say, let's just make play drums. Is that because you are an overachiever? You can not only play drums, you can sing. Do you have a Prince tribute band?
Starting point is 00:29:17 I do, but I don't play drums. Yes. I saw you do that. Tell your boyfriend. Oh, well, that's just cups. Mate, I can't do it. That's coordination. Really?
Starting point is 00:29:27 Are you kidding me? Like, I can't even do this. Like, you don't know. Well, that's really sweet of you. But like, you're an overachiever. You're funny. You're talented. You're beautiful.
Starting point is 00:29:37 You can sing. You can sing Christina Aguilera riff. You can be in a prince band. You can play a job. You're very talented. Thanks, Jen. No, you're welcome. I mean, I am a tiger mom.
Starting point is 00:29:50 No. No. Oh, no. No, I'm definitely not. I'm a musical person. So I don't really think about music as another thing. I think it's more part of me. That's so nice.
Starting point is 00:30:03 Well, because my mom's music. Like, she is music. So growing up, I didn't think it wasn't normal. Does that make sense? Yeah. I mean, I'm sure I was listening to music when she was pregnant with me. I was listening to her sing. So it just is.
Starting point is 00:30:18 And my parents were always making music and people were always playing music in our house. And it just seemed normal to me. Which Prince song would you sing if we said you've got to sing a Prince song? Like if I had no choice. If you had no choice. I like so many. So it's very difficult to choose. But I, Princess,
Starting point is 00:30:40 our band that my friend Gretchen and I Princess. Yeah, it's about Princess because we're girls. Yeah. We chose to do a very specific era of Prince songs. We only do the ones that we grew up listening to, which is like 1983 to 1980, six, seven. Six, seven.
Starting point is 00:31:03 Do your kids say six, seven? Oh, no, they're too. They're too. No, what's six seven? It's some stupid TikTok thing. What? Six seven. Well, thank you.
Starting point is 00:31:12 What? Why, is it funny? No, it's not, it's stupid. It's so stupid. Oh, thanks. But I don't. When would they say it? Oh my God.
Starting point is 00:31:22 I've corrupted your brain with it. They just say it. Your kids not just say stupid stuff all the time and you're like, what does that mean? They kind of don't know what TikTok is yet. That's, just do you wait? Six, seven. So like when, if you go, do you want some potatoes? They go six, seven.
Starting point is 00:31:39 Yeah, they think it's hilarious. where's it come from though where's it like to write something on TikTok that has no you sound like me and I love you for it because I want to know the context of everything I want to know where things come from or why they're saying it yeah
Starting point is 00:31:54 but that's not what they're experiencing they're experiencing people saying something and you said it so it's popular and therefore it's popular so they wouldn't be like it's sweater weather yeah no they wouldn't do that one they wouldn't do that that's such a shame that you can't be cool you are cool that's the
Starting point is 00:32:10 annoying. I told my daughter that the other day. I was like, you know your mom is cool. And she said, whatever. She was like, yeah, yeah, mama, I know. I know, but she, she doesn't think so. I have, I can get some salad out, but this is salad? Okay, fine, great. Thank you. That's a bed. Yeah. Okay, fine. Perfect. What's this lovely? So this is just like a herbie mayo, but I actually mixed it with some great yoghurt. And so to kind of make it less mayo-y and kind of cut through. Okay, thanks. Do you put lemon and dill? I love dill. I got, Chives and the deal. No garlic.
Starting point is 00:32:43 Not garlic any. Maybe there's some garlic on the parmesan potatoes. Oh, they're parmesan. Wow. That delicious. This is delicious. Good. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:32:53 You know what? It's not my recipe. It's from an app called Mob app. I love Mob. Me too. And everything is ingredient-wise really beautiful. They make it look really easy. Mmm.
Starting point is 00:33:06 Those are nice. They do love a bit of gotcha-chang, though, don't they? Like, everything's like... It's like a gotcha chan pasta sausage, chok chican, scrambled eggs. I know. I think I did a recipe with some gotching now that you said it. Somebody's crispy rice, like you take your old rice. Oh, great.
Starting point is 00:33:23 For like a breakfast. I love rice in the morning and breakfast. So good with like some fried veggies and then. And you know, apparently if it's been in the fridge, it's lower carb. Yeah. What do you mean? So the carb like glycemic index or whatever, like the carb of it, it's actually much kind of, even though we love carbs,
Starting point is 00:33:42 but it kind of is less carb-y and therefore, like, you can eat more of it? I don't know. And it's the same, like, that's why I freeze some of my sourdough. Like, and then kind of, you make sourdough? I do when I, I haven't had a bad stint, actually. I'm so impressed with you. No, you know what, I did it?
Starting point is 00:33:58 And then I got completely obsessed with it to the point where my husband was like, please, enough. And I was like, like this, it takes over. It does take over. And then, like, you get it all on your clothes. It's your whole kitchen Yeah So he was like
Starting point is 00:34:12 Can you just calm down That's so good It's good isn't it It's really easy What did you do So it's fennel And then orange And then you boil up
Starting point is 00:34:21 I didn't have enough Rice wine vinegar So I did part rice wine vinegar What I had And then apple cider Sugar Oiling water You boil it up
Starting point is 00:34:29 And then you let it cool And then you just pour it over So easy Oh my God It's so good Thank you But very mild Oh great
Starting point is 00:34:38 It's delicious. So whilst we eat and chat, start thinking about your last supper. Okay. Well, which is kind of funny because, you know, Molly ends up in Lute Season 3 on a desert island and bless her, she's having really great food, unbeknownst to her because, well, I don't want to give it away. I just wanted to know where that was shot. Did you think it was shot on a desert island? Did it look like a desert island?
Starting point is 00:35:03 Kind of is. Yeah, good. That's good. That's the magic. It's the magic of Hollywood, but it was, it wasn't Studio City. It might as well have been. I think we were in Redondo Beach or something. We were in some beach.
Starting point is 00:35:18 Oh, great. We were in California. So, last supper, Desert Island, you're going for a very long time. What are you going to have as your starter main food? Thank you for asking. Okay, let's see. I think there should be a lobster roll at some point. Is it from a particular place?
Starting point is 00:35:36 Mm-hmm. Well, do you ever make them at home? I've never made them. Have you ever cooked a lobster at home? No, I'm too scared. Me too. And I feel like maybe we should both do it and feed back to each other. I used to feel that way.
Starting point is 00:35:47 I didn't grow up cooking at all. I was scared to cook. And my first thing I made to make me feel like, okay, I can do this. But I was scared to make was a roast chicken. I just thought, I'm going to undercook it. I'm going to poison everyone in my family. And I was scared. And I think once I got over that fear,
Starting point is 00:36:06 I felt like, I can figure this out. Although I am really afraid of cooking. Oh, mass? Meat. Well, I don't think I grew up eating a lot, because I didn't really eat a lot of meat grandpa. I think we ate more chicken and fish. My parents said that we were vegetarian, but we ate chicken and fish.
Starting point is 00:36:22 I think that was a 70s thing. Okay. I don't know. But I think I'm normal, but my husband thinks I'm really weird about. I'm always weird. I'm going to, like, undercook something or poison. Or things turning bad. Like, oh, throw that away.
Starting point is 00:36:35 Just throw that away. I don't know. I'm not going to serve lobster. I prefer to give myself food poisoning. Yeah, for sure. There's a great place in Miami. I might change it. There's a great place in Miami called Joe's Stonecrabbs.
Starting point is 00:36:48 Okay. And they're open seasonally. So when it's not stone crab season, they're just closed. But growing up, we'd go to Miami to visit my family. And they would take us to Joe's stone crabs. My grandfather would slip the matriadsia 20 and get us a table. A nice table. And it was, they're the most delicious thing in drawn butter and hot, hot, delicious drawn butter.
Starting point is 00:37:14 You've got these beautiful stone crab claws. It's very good. But now you can, with Goldbelly, do you have Goldbelly here? No, but, but you can, you can ship them. What's Goldbelly? It's like a food shipping. Russ and daughters, you can send Babkas across the States. That's right.
Starting point is 00:37:32 That's exactly how I learned about it was through Russ and daughters. The Bobcars. Yeah. So good. You do bring up a good point. Lox and bagels, like a good proper Nova, locks and bagel. With the onion. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:45 There's an incredible place in Los Angeles called Courage bagels. Oh, I know about it. Oh, my God. Who's so long? Who's got time? One of my friends who lives in the neighborhood, she just goes and picks it up for me. I can't be bothered. I was watching the studio the other day, and they even referenced Courage bagels.
Starting point is 00:38:02 No. Yeah, he's like, I'm going to get Courage bagels. And I'm like, wow. Shit, it's all over, isn't it? Yeah. Damn it. Someone was telling me that the reason why those bagels in particular are so good is it's a Montreal-style bagel,
Starting point is 00:38:15 which I think is more sourdough forward. See, it's not a typical bagel. No, it's a loose, it's delicious. Yeah. No, I do. But it doesn't feel like a New York bagels or a Manchester one. Manchester bagels are the best. Are they?
Starting point is 00:38:31 They've got to be crispy on the outside, but really chewy. Yeah. And like a New York bagels. be sweet yeah what's your favorite bagel flavor oh no just plain oh nothing else i like everything you like everything no i like plane courage does burnt everything oh it's not really burnt but it's yeah but you like the oniony burnt don't you i do i know my kids like plain but growing up i liked a raisin bagel people really think you're weird when you like a raisin bagel i love it i love it too there's It's like this bagel company.
Starting point is 00:39:06 She's not interested. No, there's this big company that basically they're not proper bagels. They never go off. So, and your children, my children love it because it's got loads of appetitives in it. And they do a raisin cinnamon one. And it's perfect with a bit of cream cheese after school. Gorgeous. So we've got a bagel for starter.
Starting point is 00:39:23 I think let's do a bagel for starter. We could do the lobster roll with it. Lobster roll with it and then, but we still have to get the stone crabs in there. Okay. Oh, yeah. This is a lot of seafood. Oh, seafood. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:34 Great. Maia, what was your mom's heritage? Which was, was she Caribbean? No, African American, black. She's from Chicago. From Chicago. I don't remember my mother ever cooking. Okay, but she was taking you to health food shops. Oh, yeah. But I'm sure she did cook. I mean, my mom died when I was seven. I was very little. And I do think she did cook. My dad said she would always be in the kitchen for Thanksgiving and stuff, but I was so little. But what's about your grandparents on her? aside. My grandmother, well, I never really, I don't remember. Okay. I don't remember eating. Actually, that's not true. I remember going to Chicago, and I was fascinated by all the food on the table, and they always ate bread with their meals. And I was always like, oh, was that a thing? People would be like, pass the bread. But I mean, like, sliced bread, just like pieces of bread. I didn't, I mean, we were eating, like, puffed rice and tiger milk bars and, I don't know, chicken enchiladas. What a tiger milk boss. Exactly. It's like the closest thing to, like, a chocolate bar, but it's carrot. Oh, my husband's grandma used to only cook with carob.
Starting point is 00:40:47 Oh, my God, why? It's like a kind of chocolate replacement. It's like a healthy chocolate replacement. And there's nothing wrong with chocolate. But why would they want to replace it? I think they thought it was unhealthy or maybe the sugar. Yeah. So, okay, have you got a sweet tooth much?
Starting point is 00:41:05 No. I do have a sweet tooth for very specific things, but I don't like candy. I like baked goods. Okay. I like pie more than cake because I love a crust. Well, this is great. I know I've heard that you're making something like that. I made a miso pecan apple tart tatan.
Starting point is 00:41:23 I love tart tatan. Well, did you know that? No, I did. I love tart tatan so much. Her legs are wriggling. So I was going to do a plain apple one and then I thought, I saw this recipe with she can and a miso in it and I thought that like tastes nice. So what does the miso do in a, in a.
Starting point is 00:41:42 I think it desserts salties up the caramel a bit. Nice. I've noticed a lot of, yeah, ooh, mommy, ooh, mommy. Oh, mommy. I didn't even know what the word meant. It's like a flavor. Do you like Marmite? Have you ever tasted Marmese?
Starting point is 00:42:00 I hate it, but my husband loves it. I shouldn't say I hate it. I've tried it and I'm not there. I'm totally open to things that people love. How did you eat it? I think it was toast. Okay, can I suggest? new way of doing it. Do you like peanut butter? Yeah. So if you try a thin layer of marmite,
Starting point is 00:42:17 ease yourself in, crunchy peanut butter. Love it. Grated, sharp cheddar cheese. Oh, that sounds good. Oh, I bet I would like that. I think, just try it. Trust me. I bet I would like that. My husband loves marmite and has like personalized jars. He loves it. It's just intense. We know what to get him for Christmas. Where's your husband American? Yeah, but I think his soul is, English. He loves it here. Yeah. Do you think you need a house here? Yeah, I do. Yeah. So you like, you like a crust. So you like a baked good. But I also, I also like an ice cream, but I don't want to be complicated. I don't like my ice cream with my pie. Oh, I like them to be separate. Yeah, I like them to be separate. So we do the pie first or the ice cream? Doesn't matter. I just don't
Starting point is 00:43:03 like when people put it on top. Alamoid, you don't like that. Unless there's a cobbler. If it's a cobbler, sure. God, you're sounding a bit fussy. I know. I'm sorry. I know. I think it's because I don't, I don't like ice cream to be runny. It kind of seems, it's a little gross. Does this mean that you don't like cream? No, I love cream. You just don't like the sweet ice cream to be runny. You like it in its solid form.
Starting point is 00:43:23 I like the ice cream, the cold with the hot. You like the cold with the heart? Yeah. I think my mouth does not like that. What do you think, I like the combo. I like the bit of runny and the bit of firm cold. Oh, see, I'm not keen on the runny. I quite like it firm.
Starting point is 00:43:37 I'm not keen on the runy. I quite like it firm. That's what she was so. Oh, yeah. I say that's what she said all day, every day. Me too. I really, because it's so stupid. It's nice.
Starting point is 00:43:49 And I like to misuse it. I do it a lot with my friend Rachel Dratch, because she groans. If she hates a bad joke, she groans, and I love it. And so anytime I get the chance I missuse, that's what she said. And she goes, oh. But then you can say it again. Yeah. Is that as good as the actress said to the bishop?
Starting point is 00:44:08 Well, yours is as the actress said to the bishop. Oh, you say it all the time? the time. It would be on my tune to the big. With the similar, with the similar. I love that. I have heard that, but now that I know that it's yours, I like it more. And you're just going to think of, think of you seeing it. Are you good? Can you go around? I think so. I, I, I, I say it. And I basically, yep, I know I'm being quite cringe. Yeah. I don't care. It tickles me every time. It's funny because it's stupid. Yeah. I love it. And I kind of feel like Steve Corre. in the moment. That's what it's for.
Starting point is 00:44:43 It's meant to make people cringe. Sorry, it's like, we're being like, the American waiters that, like clear your plates before you finish. No, sorry. Is that very American? So American. It drives us mad. I hate it.
Starting point is 00:44:55 Do you go there a lot? Yeah. If I'm touring, so I'm a singer and then I tour. I know you're a singer. Oh, you're sweet. And I have to say, your mum's, like, rotary connection and your mom's records is like all that inspires me for this new record. So I'll send it to you and it's done.
Starting point is 00:45:10 And then you'll be like, you need to back off, babe. No. You need to back off. No, it's completely inspiring. We just, that's so cool to hear. They just did a really beautiful tribute show for my mom last week in L.A. at the Hollywood Bowl. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:45:24 Because it's been 50 years since her album since Perfect Angel came out, which is amazing, wow. Crazy. Yeah. 50 years. But it's also so interesting because she's sort of a time capsule, right? Because her stuff is such a specific era. But Rotary Connection stuff is incredible And did you ever hear of solo stuff?
Starting point is 00:45:47 Who's solo stuff? I mean before she was, I guess, around the time of Rotary Connection, yeah. She has a solo record called Come to My Garden That's really beautiful. Yes, yes. That's with Le Fleur? Yeah. That's all I reference all the time.
Starting point is 00:46:01 Really? It's all, because it's got the right amount of dramatics for me. Yeah. And that's what I love about Rotary Connection as well, the kind of drama and the kind of musicality. and the ensemble of it all and that's kind of my favorite thing to do it's that Charles Stepney orchestral stuff oh so good yes beautiful but anyway I just had to say and I yeah but like yeah I love that no it's like and also like the iconic like her just having a lion in her photo shoot nuts I remember
Starting point is 00:46:28 going to that photo shoot really well they had to recreate it for like a commercial or something and so I remember my my brother and I went and we had just gotten ice cream and we watched her sitting there, but they got a different lion for the second shoot. So it wasn't a taxidermy lion? Because the lion was like, that's mental. I know. Whose idea was that? I don't know. Probably hers.
Starting point is 00:46:51 Love that. She's a cool lady. Really cool. So you were just there to go and see kind of see mum at work, but mostly see the lion. She was like, kids, you're coming to work? Totally. Do you remember the lion? I do. Was he friendly? Well, that particular day,
Starting point is 00:47:06 he pounced at her. Oh. But what? Not the one on the record, but when they recreated it for the promo or whatever. He jumped, but he didn't have any claws, so they, she was okay. Hey friends, it's Nikaela from the podcast Side Hustle Pro. I'm always looking for ways to keep my kids entertained without screens. Starting point is 00:48:00 Hi, it's Morgan from Off the Shelf, and I'm here to tell you about Paramount Pictures, new movie regretting you, a film adaptation of Colleen Hoover. best-selling book, Regretting You. If there's anything I love more than an adaptation, it's an adaptation that's going to make me feel something. And with Josh Boone, yes, the director of the Fultonar stars, at the helm, I'm ready. Between the first loves, secret relationships, and second chances, I am prepared to be going through every single emotion. This film also has a stacked cast starring Alison Williams, McKenna Grace, Dave Franco,
Starting point is 00:48:31 Mason Fames, and so many more. Go see Regretting You Only in Theater's October 24th. So we've got the darkest dessert I've ever seen. But it doesn't taste burn. No, it doesn't, weirdly. Maybe you can just say it's like a Halloween dessert. It does look like Halloween. Why has it gone black, though?
Starting point is 00:48:54 I think it's the pot. I don't think it's black, though. I mean, I'd say it's black, Maya. You don't think it's a little bit brown? I'd say it's charcoal. Yeah, we'll love some. All right, charcoal, yeah. Do you think it tastes burnt, darling?
Starting point is 00:49:09 No, I don't. It's really strange how that's happened. Why does it come this colour? Mmm. That's good. It's really good. It's actually gorgeous. I love a baked apple.
Starting point is 00:49:22 The objects aren't good there, are they? I've been having baked apples, though. The optics. Are these your apples? They're not. That would be too wholesome, wouldn't it? For today. I have done, I have exhausted the apples in my garden.
Starting point is 00:49:35 Can I ask whether it, was your idea to have the FONS. Because you're an exec on this, right? Like, are you just like, I'm going to have this person, this person? Wouldn't that be a great idea to have? I mean, it's always the dream to have the people that you want. And when they say yes, it's the dream come true. I was so in love with the Fons growing up.
Starting point is 00:49:56 I wanted him to be my husband. Is that why you made him naked in your episode? But we all did. How can he get older? I know. It's just so unfair. He should stay the same age as we loved him. He is the most delightful human being on the planet.
Starting point is 00:50:14 Henry, what's the best, Henry Winkler? And the first time I ever worked with him, he brought the best chocolate cake. And he said, I like to bring gifts for people. And my friend Ricardo makes the best chocolate cake. So I hadn't seen him in years. He came to our show. And I said, do you know what I think about? Sometimes I think about that chocolate cake.
Starting point is 00:50:37 he brought and how beautiful that was that you did that. So the last day he was shooting and brought me a chocolate cake. What a... He's the menchiest mench of all menches. Oh, I love that. A. That's all you would say.
Starting point is 00:50:50 Hey. And the thumbs up. Or he'd hit the jukebox and it would start to play. Yeah, I dressed up. He had a girlfriend named Pinky Tuscadero and she was... Sorry, what? Pinky Tuscadero.
Starting point is 00:51:04 What a name? I know. Well, on the show. Oh, right. It was a fictional character. But they had a demolition derby where they drove cars backwards and smashed into each other. And she had a pink cask because she was pinky. She wore all pink.
Starting point is 00:51:18 So I used to wrap my arm with a paper towel and ride my big wheel in my driveway and pretend I was the Fonz's wife. I love him. God, I mean, that's the joy of like being a grown-up and getting to execute things that you actually care about. You say, like, wouldn't it be great if I had one of my favorite human beings in the world on the show? Like, that would be nice. And luckily, they say, sometimes they say yes. You're an imitation supremer. Oh, thank you.
Starting point is 00:51:48 Who haven't you imitated yet that you think you might like to? Hmm. Do you do English ones? I did Kate Moss for fun the other day. Oh, did you? How did that go? It was really fun. I love her.
Starting point is 00:52:06 Where did you do it? it? Like in the car. Can you give it to us now? It's kind of a, yeah. Oh, let her. Finish her talk to Tanmow. Well, I did. I met her last time I was here and she's so lovely and she was so kind to me. And I realized the reason why I do her is because when I'm retelling a story, I retell it in the person's voice. So I wasn't really like doing an imitation of her,
Starting point is 00:52:30 but I think, and by the way, I don't think that I resemble Kate Moss. So I don't think there's going to be an opportunity to be a player, but maybe if there's an animated Kate Moss show, I don't know. Hold on. Do you think you represent, hold on, do you think you look like Christina Guerrero? No, I do not. I mean, that's the beauty of being on SNL when I was on it is that I felt like I could, I've always felt like I can be anyone or do anything and I was able to write things and do that. Like, I don't look like Donatella Versace. That's so good though. But it was so fun. It was so fun. Okay, so...
Starting point is 00:53:06 Are we going to get a cake? Yeah, are we going to get a cake? Oh, shit. It's warming up. I'm warming up my lips. Me, me, me, me, me, my... You warm up your lips. No, I'm joking.
Starting point is 00:53:17 I'm joking. I don't do any of that. She's not a trumpeter, darling. Is that what they do? Yeah, they... They do it after they've performed as well, so it's really... I had a straw the other day, and I thought, what the fuck? She was going, who did there?
Starting point is 00:53:32 The lovely trumpet player. But it was her warming down. And I went, you're all right, baby. She went, oh, God, I'm so sorry. I just have to like warm. Warming down? Yeah, cool down kind of. So it's like a stretching after.
Starting point is 00:53:43 It sounded like terrible diarrhea. What? So, it was kind of like, honestly. And I said, do you all right? She went, oh, God, I don't even realize I'm doing it because she has to. I understand warming up, but warming down? Do you warm down when you sing? Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:53:57 You're so professional. I've learned the hard way, though. Yeah. It's like, I mean, I'm. I'm going to compare myself to a 100-metre sprinter right now. Great. Well, Jess. You know, they don't just stop, do they?
Starting point is 00:54:12 Usain Bolt and Jesse Ware. We don't just stop after the performance. We just take it easy. You know what I mean? Yeah. Anyway, back to Kay. No, it's good to you. It's good to do that.
Starting point is 00:54:22 It's good for you. Okay, fine. Back to Kay. Okay, God. All I remember, I was so starstruck and so excited because I've loved Kate Moss since she was on the cover of the face. God knows how long ago, and she was so young. I mean, I love her.
Starting point is 00:54:38 Oh, God, this is so embarrassing. I don't do impressions when people ask me to, by the way. I'm just letting, no, I'm just letting you know I'm doing it for you because I love you. Okay, that's really, we appreciate it. I really, this is just all love. Okay. So I met her and she was like, when she went like that, and she goes, I love you. That's it.
Starting point is 00:54:55 That's really good. But I do. I love her on the on the poker. Will you have her? We'll try. I hope she can do me. Get her to imitate you, yeah. She goes, oh, I love you.
Starting point is 00:55:07 Maya, before we let you go, I don't really want to because I'm really enjoying this. I'm really enjoying this too, and I know it's really nice. It wasn't burnt, was it? No, it was really, it was really nice. I couldn't cook it. I mean, you wouldn't want to serve that normally. I toured with the band when I was in college and we opened up for Blur back in the day. Wow, what was the band called?
Starting point is 00:55:27 The Rentals. And it was American band, this guy Matt Sharp, it was his band. He played in Weezer. I was like a keyboard player Oh, she plays keyboard too Yeah, there we go Not drums, I'm not a drummer You know what my grandma would say
Starting point is 00:55:40 And in her spare time she's a teapot You do everything I just have always wanted to do everything But I do get frustrated if I'm not really good at something That's not, I got to chill out I'm competitive I want to be like an incredible I want to be like a chef
Starting point is 00:55:55 Like a phenomenal But I'm good I'm good when I try But I don't try it What's your star sign? I'm a Leo I don't, I can't give you anything I don't know much about Leo's
Starting point is 00:56:07 I don't know because the only thing is Virgos and they're usually perfectionist You know about Libra and Virgos I don't think I'm a perfectionist but I think I have O2D or something Okay So, sorry, back to the rentals Yes
Starting point is 00:56:20 Oh, we toured with Blur Blur for about a month How was that? We're great Did Damon behave himself? Damon was so nice No, I was just saying The reason why I said that is because
Starting point is 00:56:31 they had a chef when we were kids I mean I was like 23 years old and I remember they had a chef and they were so cool and it was Graham that was a little bit naughty oh really
Starting point is 00:56:42 he was the one I had the crush on and the guitar player and they had a chef and she would go oh Damon I love this it's really nice I just remember being like God that's great
Starting point is 00:56:54 I've been saying it's really nice forever I don't even remember who the girl was but yeah that was the 90s Yeah, before we let you go, would you be able to give us a nostalgic taste that can transport you back somewhere? Mm, rather than chicken enchiladas? Let me think. Or scent.
Starting point is 00:57:13 Oh, scent. Yeah. Well, I'm trying to think of the first thing that came to my mind, and it's a weird one. I don't know if it's right. Does it have to be homemade? No. When I was a little girl and we went to Disneyland, they would have frozen. and chocolate-covered banana. They're incredible because they have peanuts on them. My daughter's allergic, so I don't get them anymore.
Starting point is 00:57:37 But I don't know anywhere else that has that flavor. You taste the cold? Do you know what I mean? Although I got one semi-recently, and the girl said, be careful because they're really frozen. They must come from some huge freezer. She said, don't eat her right way. And I was like, ha-ha, and I took a bite.
Starting point is 00:57:53 And I was like, did I just break my tooth? I didn't. Thank God. But it felt pretty damn close. but that I got it because I wanted to taste being little how it was yeah eating a chocolate covered banana that's what she said as the actress said to the bishop exactly exactly I love Maya Rudolph. I knew I would, but I do love her.
Starting point is 00:58:43 Yeah, I want to be related to her. She kept them saying, you know, this is so lovely that you've got me in your house. And I was like, this is what we do. This is what we do. But you're so sweet. She was very appreciative. Yeah. She ate all the food.
Starting point is 00:58:57 She was just like a perfect gas. Absolutely gorgeous. What a pleasure to have Maya Rudolph in my house and looking for her. She was just good, very soothing influence, I think. Yes, I do feel like we've had like a good therapy session. She doesn't feel combative at all. She's so comfortable within her, who she is and knows. And I think that lack of kind of conflict actually permeated our relationship, darling.
Starting point is 00:59:24 Complemented you and I. You think it complemented. I like to think it permeated. I really just loved the chats. Just, she was fab. Should we talk about the black tartar tan? Which Maya said could be good for Halloween. Well, I'm shocked, Jess,
Starting point is 00:59:41 because when I took it out, I thought I can't bloody serve this. We're just going to have cream and ice cream. But it's not burnt. By the way, let me just add. It tastes delicious. It's not burnt. Taste delicious.
Starting point is 00:59:54 I just don't understand why it's gone black. Do you think it was the me? Why are you blaming the miso? Because that's the only thing I've ever added. And when I cut, the caramel was amber, and then I put the miso in, and then it started when I cut the apples through, it did look a bit dark.
Starting point is 01:00:15 Don't understand. Did you clean your pan enough? Darling, it was absolutely spotless. I scrubbed it before I put it on. That isn't black from the pan, because it would taste for me. Listen, taste was all there. I don't know what Paul Hollywood would say about,
Starting point is 01:00:29 I might write to him and say, poor wives did my tart tan go black. I think I might. Please do. Let's see if you get. Or anyone else could email us and explain to Lenny why her tart tan went black. Is it the combination of miso and sugar? I don't know. But the one that I look at the picture. It's very odd because it doesn't taste burnt. But there is an acid taste. No, there wasn't. No one else has tasted that. Are you sure you're not? Are you sure you're not pregnant? I hope not. Yeah, well, you might be, because aftertates are a sign. Are they?
Starting point is 01:01:05 Thank you to Maya Rudolph for coming on and being absolutely gorgeous. Generous, fabulous. She must have a busy life, though, between her and a husband. And then they, and four children. Wow. She's a superwoman. Thank you to everyone that's listened and watched, and we will see you next week. Yeah.
