I'm Jessie Ware and I'm here sitting in a New York apartment with my mum and our wonderful friend, Jake Cohen. So if you've been listening to the podcast for a while, we had Jake Cohen on a few months ago and he said, you should come
Starting point is 00:00:35 to New York. I can sort you out with some guests. And we took him up on that offer and he's absolutely delivered. And then I thought, well, I'm going to take it one step further. And actually, Jake, can you help us with the cooking because we don't actually have a kitchen and you're a great chef so this could really help us and keep mum and my relationship solid. I'd prefer him as my cooking com- maybe we should table manners Lenny and Jake Cohen from now on. Am I getting beat out of my own? Yeah. Wow that's so Logan Roy of Roy of you. So we're kicking off with a big one. It's a friend of mine who you may have listened to
Starting point is 00:01:08 on the podcast before, because he is our most regular guest. This will be his hat trick. It's Mr. Benny Blanco and his new fiance, a lovely girl called Selena Gomez. So what's on the menu, Lenny? So we've, I've made, we've made an onion quiche. I think the last time we did this was with another pop star, Carly Rae Jepsen.
Starting point is 00:01:29 So we've got the onion quiche that we're going to serve with some griddled asparagus and some herb salad. And then Jake, what have we got for PUD? For PUD, I was like, Benny, what should I make? What does Selena love? And he's like, she loves tiramisu. And so in the new book, Dinner Party Animal, I do this thing, tiramisu cake.
Starting point is 00:01:49 So you make just a giant espresso sponge cake, poke holes, pour in the syrup and let it soak, and then top it with this mascarpone cream. And then you just like scoop it out. So it's like a delicious spoon cake. It's honestly, it's closer to what I would- You call it a spoon cake. Sort of, cause you just like spoon, you don't like slice it, you just like scoop it.
Starting point is 00:02:08 So instead of like ladies fingers, like you do a sponge. Exactly. Delicious. We've made our way from Jake's house to... Down the river. Downtown. Actually, are we downtown? I don't know. I don't know if we are downtown. We're at the Standard High Line, we're in the boom bar which is on the 17th floor of the
Starting point is 00:02:32 Standard High Line. And it's booming. And there's about three different parties going on here but we have an iconic room that actually I've sung in before. Have you? Yeah. So we are here and the Standard Highline has kindly let us record. It's a beautiful room. It is a stunning room. There's a grand piano, we're by a fire pit. It's famous. Madonna's performed in here.
Starting point is 00:02:57 Has she? Jessie Weir's performed in here. Has she? Yeah, yeah. You know, it pops off as we found out last night. So we're waiting for Benny, we're waiting for Selena, we're waiting for Jake, who, bless him, when he's not helping us in the kitchen, he's biking downtown to shave some chocolate on his tiramisu cake.
Starting point is 00:03:17 And zhuzh up the salad. Zhuzh up the salad. And I'm loving New York so far. Yeah, me too. We have Benny Blanco and Selena Gomez coming on as table manners takes one hand. Selena and Benny, welcome to the Boom Boom Room at the Standard Highline. Hey! We can cut this out, but where to the Boom Boom Room at the Standard Highlines. Hey! We can cut this out, but where's your Boom Boom Room? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha Okay, so, Benny, this is your third time. However, we've actually never done it, well, this is still not exactly how we do it.
Starting point is 00:04:08 However, you've brought your fiance with you, which I'm thrilled about. It's the worst word in the world. It's just, no, it sounds so stupid. It's so strange. It just feels strange. Yeah. So how do you describe him?
Starting point is 00:04:20 I just say my partner or Benny. You said fiance last night. I did. Yeah, you did. But the other day I catch myself saying, well, my boyfriend. And I'm like, wait. I say my wife. It's not quite why we're there, but.
Starting point is 00:04:33 You say my wife. Yeah, I say my wife. I definitely have said you're mad. I say my wife. I usually say my husband, Selena. No, you didn't. No, I didn't. Who was the Charles's guys?
Starting point is 00:04:43 Both. I mean, I think we're pretty equal. I guess I think I probably need a little more, but. So we're gonna kind of go back and forth because we've got a couple. And also we have to shout out that Jay Cohen is here in the background, which actually, you know, he will be coming on the mic
Starting point is 00:05:00 and helping us. He actually lives at the boom boom. No. And then we also have Sandy, who's Benny's mom. and help me with service. He actually lives at the boom boom. No. Ha ha ha ha ha ha. And then we also have Sandy, who's Benny's mom. Yeah, who we thought. The gorgeous Sandy. The gorgeous Sandy, who we'll get on Mike soon. But can we take it back to dinner around the table,
Starting point is 00:05:17 the family dinner around the table. Selena, can you paint a picture for us? Definitely. Who was around the dinner table, and what were you eating? You know, my parents split up, so my mom's side is very much about southern cooking and warm and like basically not the healthiest,
Starting point is 00:05:33 but it's the best tasting. And then my dad's side were Mexican, so I grew up with every kind of, well, only specifically my grandma's food. So I remember it was it was really special when we would get the chance to do it. My mom was in high school working jobs and but I remember my grandparents you know always like being there and then I got older and we added Gracie my little sister and now it's now it's lovely. What recipe of your grandma's would you always take with you?
Starting point is 00:06:08 What is her best recipe? Her chicken and dumplings. Oh, wow. And now it's a southern kind, so it's not necessarily because I think there's many different versions, but it's so yummy. And it's basically biscuits, and you put it in this chicken broth broth and then you add
Starting point is 00:06:25 a little bit of cream and it's just her recipe so it's the best. That's how she tried to get me. I don't know, really? That's how she tried to get me. That's better when it's like fresh. That's how she tried to get me. Did you cook for her?
Starting point is 00:06:38 Well yes, I worked with my Nana and I wanted to make it really good and I forgot, this is so embarrassing, I didn't realize, should've, that he had cameras outside his house. So I, in the rain, I drove and I made my friend run out and give him soup in the corner and then we ran away. And he was like, did you?
Starting point is 00:07:01 But he told me later, he's like, you know I saw a video of you and that guy. First of all, first of all, Selena is so insane that when we first started going out on dates, she's so obsessed with being on time, she used to pull up to my house. You were both early today, respect, we love this, thank you very much.
Starting point is 00:07:22 She used to pull up to my house, minimum 20 minutes early, maybe 30 minutes early. And she would wait outside, but she didn't realize that my cameras could see like down the street, and her car would just be parked outside for like 30 minutes. And she would just wait until it was time to come in. I know, I don't think we've ever said that out loud to
Starting point is 00:07:41 anyone, but it's so funny. It's just, I don't know, I was nervous that I really liked him and I wanted to get there and maybe call a friend to pump me up or do my makeup again or something, I don't know. But you'd known him a long time before you started dating. Correct, I mean, way over how old? Correct.
Starting point is 00:07:59 He was 16, right? When you first met. She met me when she was 16, 17, and I'm not good at math. I don't even, I was probably 21 or something. And we don't remember, neither one of us remember that time. The first meeting was so long. We don't remember.
Starting point is 00:08:17 And then, yeah, we started working over the years, but it really like, I feel like every like 20th time I would see her, I'd be like, hey, I'd be like, that Selena girl's pretty cool. Every single time. What's happening now? Oh, now you're talking.
Starting point is 00:08:31 Oh, wait. Don't worry, you don't have to drink, these are for Lenny. Wait. Both of them. Wait, wait, wait. Cosmos. Do you want one?
Starting point is 00:08:40 I would like one. Do you want it? Yeah, just have them tailored. We'll split this one. No, we'll have two more, darling, here. It matches your jacket, give it to her. No. Give it to her.
Starting point is 00:08:50 Okay. Lenny's favorite, especially when, I'm right for true. She thinks she's Carrie Bradshaw, so she orders Cosmos. She's the only person that still orders a Cosmo. I actually love Cosmos. Lenny, you look so stunning today.
Starting point is 00:09:02 You sure. No, I swear, I swear. She's such a smooth person. No, no, I swear. You're so stunning today. You sure. No, I swear, I swear. She's such a smooth person. No, no, I swear. You're so well. No, I swear. You're like tanned. You like have, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:09:12 There's something about it. It's a glow in there. You look great. It's like in here. Like you deserve to be in the Boom Boomer. Thank you, darling. She looks so like beautiful and also looks like I'm like at the same time at a job interview and she's like
Starting point is 00:09:27 But like for like but for like but for like the best like HR at like JP Morgan Or something and she's like really passing me. She's really you're the worst HR person I'll ask you. Where did you go your first proper date? Where did you go for dinner? It was our, okay. I didn't know we were on a date. Okay. Which means you didn't know Benny. She asked me to hang out
Starting point is 00:09:51 and then I happened to be going to a thing and- He's always got a thing, hasn't he? Well, yes, but you also were the first to say, let's hang out soon. Yeah, I didn't mean like, I was like, yeah, let's hang out soon. And then she was like, cool. And then-
Starting point is 00:10:09 Just trying to make myself look cooler. Yeah, no, but I think it was so cool. Cause I, okay, so I had no idea. And it was one of my friends was having like a birthday dinner at Jitlata, which is like an amazing Thai restaurant. This lady, Jazz has been running it forever. It's been open over 40 years.
Starting point is 00:10:27 It's incredible. Anthony Bourdain's favorite. Yeah, yeah. It's so real. So. We go first. First, we went to first we went to stir crazy. And this is why I want to interject.
Starting point is 00:10:40 My sister texts me going, is Benny going out with Selena Gomez? And I was like, eh? I was like, oh no, they're just, they work together. That's probably what it was. She was like, I've just seen him in a wine bar. That was our second. That was our second. But we went there the first time too. Cause I was like, where can we go
Starting point is 00:10:57 where there's like gonna be like no one that'll really see. Yeah. And it was like really, it was like, it's really quiet. It's my friend, Harley's place. It's like a beautiful wine bar that's like so cute and We went and I remember we're talking and she says well, I
Starting point is 00:11:14 Would have worn something different or something about a date and I was like we're on a date How many people with you because whenever you go out with Benny, there's 25 people It was just me and her at drinks They were just there for the wines to wine together. Wow, cuz I was like, oh shit Were there people with you? Because whenever you go out with Bemi, there's 25 people. It was just me and her at drinks. They were just there for the wines, the wine together. Wow. Because I was like, oh shit.
Starting point is 00:11:29 I was like, I was like. And you didn't know it was a date, Bemi? No, in my head, in my head I said this, in my head I said, in my head I was like, oh, we'll just grab a drink before, because like I know that she's a shy person.
Starting point is 00:11:42 And I was like, let's just get a drink before we go meet a bunch of people she doesn't know. I really wasn't thinking at all because I was just, I don't know, I was just like, yeah, she's my, I never thought of her like that. Gold, how could you, I mean, she's the most gorgeous girl in the world.
Starting point is 00:11:59 Either one of us did. We were always in relationships. So you're at the date that you don't think is a date, but then you realize is a date because Selena has the balls to say something. I didn't really realize until our second date. So basically what happened was, I thought we were just having fun as friends and stuff,
Starting point is 00:12:15 and she was at the dinner, and then she was like, I have to leave. And I was like, okay. And she was like, yeah, yeah, I have a video tomorrow morning. And I was like, okay. And it was like so sudden. And I was like, oh, yeah, I have a video tomorrow morning. And I was like, OK. And it was like, so sudden. And I was like, oh, maybe she just has to leave.
Starting point is 00:12:27 And then I think maybe she was a little nervous or something. And then she texted me after, and she was like, that was the most fun I've had. And she wrote a whole thing afterwards. And then we hang. Was it like the next day? I don't know. It gets cloudy.
Starting point is 00:12:41 It's just so funny because his casual hang felt very much like a date. Could you tell he fancied you? No, I didn't think that, but when I first went to his house, Christian, shout out to Christian, security, Yeah. Said, oh, he's in the backyard, just go this way.
Starting point is 00:12:59 So I'm walking through this beautiful garden of like vegetables and all this stuff. And then he's just sitting there by the pool on the phone. And I was like, oh, I was like, I have a little butterfly. And I like walked over and I sat down and he ended his call and we talked for a little bit. And I remember just sitting there like,
Starting point is 00:13:16 why am I so nervous? I just feel really nervous. And then we get in his beautiful car, which is what, from what year? Oh yeah, we had a, I have my old car, because it was like one of the first nice days, it was so nice, and I was driving it, and she said I was a shitty driver, which I am,
Starting point is 00:13:35 and she happens to maybe be worse. Oh, okay. We're both equally terrible, she might be a little better than me. But it was just, it felt so sweet with being in this like convertible in the wind. This sounds so dating.
Starting point is 00:13:48 Then he takes you to a wine bar that's quiet, yet he's walking in going, hey Jeff, hey, go, hey, listen up. Say hi to everyone and I'm like, I don't know what's happening. But I liked him. Yeah, I definitely, definitely did. Yes, Benny.
Starting point is 00:14:04 Second date is when I really was like, he's looked it up. Did you start to get excited and anxious then? So second, I'm not really like an anxious type of person. He doesn't. I'm like in- With the most gorgeous woman you've ever met. I never have been, I'm anxious in like,
Starting point is 00:14:19 I'm anxious in times where you're not supposed to be anxious and I'm totally calm and collected in like, any time where you should not supposed to be anxious, and I'm totally calm and collected in like any time where you should be anxious. So we were hanging on our second date, and I don't even remember what, did we cook or? I don't know what we did, but towards the end of the date, we were just sitting in the living room on the couch, and we were playing, we're not really strangers.
Starting point is 00:14:43 on the couch and we were playing, we're not really strangers. And there was a thing where it said, take a selfie with the person next to you. And she, we were already kind of like lounging and she got right on my chest and took a selfie. And then right after I just looked at her and I said, oh, I gotta kiss this girl. And I kissed her right away and the-
Starting point is 00:15:10 Good kiss? Can I say something? It was very good. Can I say something? Can I say something? Sure. Oh wait, it's about my bad breath. Right, right away, she was like,
Starting point is 00:15:21 her heart started beating so quickly and she started getting a rash on her face and she was so nervous because she hadn't, her like heart started beating so quickly and she started getting a rash on her face and she was so nervous because she hadn't, you know. She wasn't allergic to you. She was like, yeah, I was so disgusting and repulsive. No, she was so nervous and hadn't. I hadn't liked anyone in a very long time. So some kisses are for fun
Starting point is 00:15:43 and then when you feel something behind a kiss, it's completely different. And I'd been alone for about five years, with the exception of a few shitty dates here and there, but never felt that way. And I was a little embarrassed, but he was like, are you okay? And I was like, no, no, I'm fine.
Starting point is 00:16:02 I didn't wanna be like, I like you. I really like you. So do you take Benadryl? No, it was Benny. No, it was. Benadryl. Yeah. No, it happened.
Starting point is 00:16:13 It happened. It happened right again, right afterwards. And no, it was just like, right after that, we just started hanging out so much and it felt so natural. And it felt like, you know when people, this is so corny. You know when people say- Oh do it, you're gonna be corny.
Starting point is 00:16:38 You know when people are like, you know, when you know you know. And you know, I probably like, in my life was like, thought when I was younger, like, oh, this could be the, but there was just a feeling that I never had before where I said I've never felt so comfortable, yet so on my toes at the same time.
Starting point is 00:16:58 Every day I was with her, I was so excited for what was gonna happen, but also so at ease with everything. And she, anytime I'm feeling anxious, she knows how to calm me down. But if anytime I'm like revved up, she can like match my energy. And I was like, wow, I really truly met like my soulmate.
Starting point is 00:17:19 And it's so stupid. But it's amazing. I love the sappy side. How do you manage? It's so stupid, but it's amazing. I love the sappy side. How do you manage because you're away, Celine is filming at the minute and you can't be together. Is that why you made a record together so you could just hang in the same room?
Starting point is 00:17:34 Honestly, it's part of the reason. It is part. It's actually crazy. We always find our ways of doing it. I've been here the last like month and a half, and then she's coming back to LA for a week, and then it's like, her cutoff is usually like three weeks. After three weeks, if it makes it to four weeks,
Starting point is 00:17:57 I start getting very scary. I might be in the newspaper. Yeah, it might be the end of me if it makes it to four weeks. No, it's just so hard. I mean, I don't think it is typical, but what I do love about the distance is it does make us miss each other and cherish the time we have together,
Starting point is 00:18:16 but two weeks is like ideal. But if I'm being really honest, it's like two days and then I get really sad. No, she's crazy. She's on the phone constantly, I know. We talk a lot. Yeah, but we text a lot. Yeah, we talk.
Starting point is 00:18:29 While I'm working, it's harder to. I always just check in. It's so easy to be a good partner. People fuck up so much, it's crazy. I'm just like, if I have a second, I'm gonna call for one second and just be like, hey babe, you're beautiful, I'm like, I'm gonna call for one second and just be like, hey babe, you're beautiful. I love you, bye.
Starting point is 00:18:46 I love that Benny Blanco, and you are a wonderful human being, but I love that all my algorithms at the moment, you telling everyone how to be a better boyfriend, it's literally everything that comes up. I'm like, oh my God, have a word with Sam. Well, I will say that everything that comes out of his mouth is a thousand percent real.
Starting point is 00:19:09 That's, he's so sweet and he's taught me so much about how to handle situations differently. So, and just taught me a lot about life and introduced me to beautiful people like you guys. And I'm just so, I don't know, this has definitely been like the best. You better stop. Lenny, I got a question for you.
Starting point is 00:19:31 What, darling? Okay, I know you don't go out on them a lot, but give me your perfect, if you could in your head, you're dreaming about your perfect first date and it can't be John Hamm, like tell me about- I was just gonna say John Hamm at the cold line. You have a perfect first date. Is that a problem? What are you doing for your first date and it can't be John Hamm. Like tell me about- I was just gonna say John Hamm at the Carlisle. You have a perfect-
Starting point is 00:19:45 Okay, okay. Is that a problem? What are you doing for your first date? It can be John Hamm. I'm going to drink Cosmopolitan's at the Carlisle. Okay. Ooh. Because I love the Carlisle.
Starting point is 00:19:55 I love the Carlisle. Do you like it as well? Yeah, it's her favorite thing. What's your order there, Selena? Oh, I just keep it simple with a nice martini with a twist. Oh, thank God. Do you gin or vodka? Yeah, vodka. I martini with a twist. Oh, thank God. Do you gin or vodka? Yeah, vodka.
Starting point is 00:20:07 I eat all the... Speaking of which, thank you, Christian. You know I love a martini. I love that we were all like, we're just gonna have tea and now look at us. What is the martini? I'm trying to do everything. This is an incredible martini.
Starting point is 00:20:18 Cheers. Is it? Yeah, it's very good. Oh, it's filthy enough. Yeah. So good. No, that I can't do. You can't do the olives. The olives. You like it just lemon? I love olives. I want it to filthy enough. Yeah. So, that, no, that I can't do. You can't do the olives. Mm-mm, the olives.
Starting point is 00:20:26 You like it, just lemon? I love olives. I want it. Just like the lemon twist. I want a hundred olives. Okay. I like olives. Okay, I've gotta get into like, some food.
Starting point is 00:20:34 Benny, Sandy's here. Sandy's here, so I need to know. Sandy. I can't even. Cooking. No, it's fine, like, not a big cook. I had the same rotation every week. Okay, stop.
Starting point is 00:20:46 Chicken quesadillas, lasagna, pasta and shrimp. I think that's how it went. That's not striking in my cook. Eggs, used to open the refrigerator and say eggs again. Quiche, I did make quiche. How's chicken soup? No, no. No?
Starting point is 00:21:03 No, my mother-in-law had a deli, so she made the best. Okay, here's the best part about my mother. Okay, we grew up in a really diverse area where there was all different types of great food. Virginia. Yeah, yeah, it was like a melting pot. So my mom introduced me to so many different types of food
Starting point is 00:21:24 when I was younger and- Mr. Kebab every week. Yes. Mr. Kebab. Yeah, we would get one kebab and we'd split it for like three days. Last two days. Yeah, like my mom was very-
Starting point is 00:21:35 Frugal. Yes, very frugal. And she just taught me about great food and it helped me learn, He just taught me about great food and it helped me learn, yeah, I love going to a 20 course omakase, but then I also find a sushi place where they make it for you. But at the same time, I love going to a hole in the wall
Starting point is 00:22:03 where you can tell a family's been passing these recipes down for generations, and she's shown me all about that. Most kids are eating Lunchables as a kid. We were eating Vindalus and shawarma. What did you know about all these things? I just like all the ethnic food. And when I was a kid, before I was born, she traveled to, you were in Mexico
Starting point is 00:22:27 and she was eating so much spicy food, so she thinks that's why I love spicy food so much. When I was pregnant. When you were pregnant. Did you? Do you like Mexican food? I do, yeah. I definitely grew up around it.
Starting point is 00:22:39 Yeah, but it is, you know, we've talked about it, it's my grandma. I think it's because of her recipes. There's many different styles of, you know, Spanish foods. And it just, for me, the basics that my grandma- Every morning. Every morning. She wants the same thing.
Starting point is 00:22:58 I always want like a soft taco or like cheese and chips. Or tamales. Or tamales. Does that, am I allowed to say this? That Benny has pre-made frozen burritos for you in the freezer. Absolutely. Which I think is the sweetest. It is so nice. Did you make them? Yeah, I make her everything.
Starting point is 00:23:16 He pre-makes them, so she's always got her burrito. I love a burrito, just simple hot sauce. She's like the cheapest date. Yeah. Her favorite things in the world are like, she likes like a corn dog in Benihana. Like it's like, she's very, what is a corn dog? I don't really know what it is.
Starting point is 00:23:37 What is a corn dog? It's like fried with yellow crust, a corn dog. You know what I feel like it is? It's like a. Pancake? It's like a pancake. It's like a pancake over a weenie. A weenie. It's like a hot dog. What's a weenie?
Starting point is 00:23:52 Hot dog. It's like a Frankfurt. So you know how you have sausage? You know how you have sausage roll? Yeah. Okay, so imagine if the outside was like a pancake and fried. It's so yum.
Starting point is 00:24:05 Her favorite things are like that. She loves fried pickles. It fried like- Fried pickles? Yes. She's from the South. This leads me on to, is there any- Pickle snow cone, she loves. Oh my. What's pickles?
Starting point is 00:24:15 Oh, pickles. This was on Jimmy Fallon, wasn't it? What's a pickle snow cone? I definitely have a love for pickles. I always have my whole life. I don't know what it is. Especially the whole jar. Well, I love, and every type.
Starting point is 00:24:32 So I'm not just like a girl that's like, oh sour. I love bread and butter. I love spicy. I love the, I love them all. Like they're just so yummy. Do you think you're food-wise compatible? Of course. First of all, no one likes a bread and butter pickle.
Starting point is 00:24:46 It's crazy. I don't, you know what? A bread is the sweetest. It's the disgusting sweetest. Oh, I love them. You like them? Yeah, you're disgusting. The ones that you get in a McDonald's burger.
Starting point is 00:24:55 No, that's a half-dill or a sour-dill. Oh, relish is different. I'm down for relish. What's that like? I know, I thought butter's sweet. Bread and butter is like a sweet, weird, strange pickle. I like, I prefer a full sour or half sour or, what do you call them?
Starting point is 00:25:16 Like Dill. Dill, a new green I love. Do you remember Crossing Delancey, that film where he makes pickles and he has to wash his hands? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yes, yes, yes. What was that pickle then? You like more cucumbers. Yeah, cucumber pickle.
Starting point is 00:25:30 Oh, those are very refreshing. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I like every, I love pickles. So where have you enjoyed this time in New York? Okay, our friend Benj just opened this place, Booba Barekus. And it is delicious, delicious, insane. For those of you who don't know what a Bureka is,
Starting point is 00:25:50 it's like basically, it kind of is like a large spinacopita almost. It's like a filo dough and it has like seeds on top and it usually comes with like a hard boiled egg and some souk and it's like. You have no idea what you're saying. I made it up. We ate, we loved that.
Starting point is 00:26:10 And then I had a sushi meal that was unreal. It was one of the best sushi meals I've ever had. It's called Sushi Show. Okay. Was it about a thousand dollars? Yes. It was very expensive. It was like a once in a lifetime meal.
Starting point is 00:26:25 Like they brought out, you would hate it. I would hate it. They brought out a vegetable and then like rice that they had been fermenting for six years. And it tasted like a Parmesan cheese. Like the rice tasted like cheese. It was fatted. Basically, yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:42 But it was so interesting and awesome. I mean, I wanna go to Barney Greengrass and have a Barney. What's Barney Greengrass? It's been around for 150 years. What is it? It's the best lox and bagel. It's like. Let's go on Tuesday. Oh, you have to.
Starting point is 00:26:57 It's like Ross and Daughters. It's the end to the end. Is it uptown or downtown? It's uptown. Okay. It's insane. What are the lox like? It's delicious. They have all different type. They have pastrami, they have kippur, salmon, they have everything.
Starting point is 00:27:06 Oh my God. There's a place called Coat. It's like a very fancy Korean barbecue. Very good. Selena, do you like these? Do you like these locks? I do. The reason why I can't come in is because
Starting point is 00:27:17 once I find two places I actually like, I stick to them. Yeah, I'm very- She likes four- I'm very weird. There's this restaurant called Cassé Lever. Okay. places I actually like, I stick to them. Yeah, I'm pretty sure about that. I'm very weird. There's this restaurant called Cassé Lever. Okay.
Starting point is 00:27:29 And it's really, I love the pasta there. It's one of my favorite spots. Which one? Actually all of them. I order like four of them and just eat them. Because their portions are very, yeah, but their portions are actually very small. What's it like on set?
Starting point is 00:27:46 What's the food like? It's very difficult to eat healthy. Yeah. Oh, is it? Because I've been every now and then, I want a bag of chips and I wanna like, all of that's accessible. I've eaten so many grilled cheese. What's this?
Starting point is 00:28:00 Jake Cohen is coming in hot. Jake, could we shine, show a muscle in the camera? Oh, like let me just. Can we just do one little flex of the muscle? Wow, let me take my shirt off quick. Ah! Wait, did you guys make this? Yeah, we made that this morning.
Starting point is 00:28:16 Do you wanna know when Jake made the pastry? I'd like to know. Well, I mean, Lenny was like, I can't serve Benny store bought pastry. I was like, oh yeah, I'll make the pie dough. But I needed to chill and I wasn't sure because I have this tendency, especially when I did the podcast,
Starting point is 00:28:35 when I did Table Matters, I overslept because I was partying and luckily I had made everything in advance and now I learned to have everything done. So I got back in the club at like 5 a.m. and just made the dough. 5 a.m. and just made the dough. Five a.m. dough. Okay, so what we've got is a quiche from our cookbook,
Starting point is 00:28:49 which is an onion quiche that mum and Jake made. I had nothing to do with it because I was at a diner with you two. Yes. And then we've got a Caesar salad, which we made some asparagus for it and then they kind of, they gave us a Caesar salad. So we've got that and then we've got some pud after.
Starting point is 00:29:04 That's gonna be a tiramisu. Oh. This smells delicious, mum. I hope so. I am so excited. It looks so good. You know, my mom's second favorite food is quiche. Oh good.
Starting point is 00:29:15 I know my mother's death row meals by heart. I think I know hers and my mother's. Okay, I'd like, this is a little Mr. and Mrs. pre the wedding. You are going to guess Selena Gomez's last supper and let's see if you get it right, Benny. You will. Am I guessing my mom's first or hers?
Starting point is 00:29:33 Oh, Sophie's choice. I'll do both. My mom's is very easy. My mom wants a fully loaded baked potato. She wants a steak and she wants maybe a little bit of lobster if she could have it, and she wants cream spinach. And that's like her dinner for sure.
Starting point is 00:29:53 And if she was having breakfast, she'd probably have quiche. Quiche is one of her favorite things in the world. Do you have it for breakfast? Yeah, in America you have it for breakfast. Oh, really? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Really? Does anybody want some here?
Starting point is 00:30:04 Wait, y'all, this is like every day for dinner even? I feel like it's more of a lunch thing for us. Oh, okay. He should like brunch. He should brunch or breakfast. Is it? Okay, so, and okay for Selena. Wait, was I right, ma?
Starting point is 00:30:18 Correct, Sandy is nodding. Danny, are you hungry? I would love some of that. He loves some. I would like a little piece, too. Oh, wow, this looks good. Hold on, I'm gonna do a taste test. Okay, all right.
Starting point is 00:30:28 We'll really see if you're the real deal. And he's very intimidating to cook. Oh my god. Delicious. Oh my god. This is unreal. Okay Benny, hit me with Selena's Last Supper. See, the one thing about Selena is
Starting point is 00:30:44 she wants a taste of every single thing. She doesn't want one meal. She want a bite. Picky bits. Of a million things. Here are all the things she wants. Right. She wants my steak specifically.
Starting point is 00:30:59 Why, what's so special about your steak? She just likes it. I like your steak. But like, what cut is it? Which cut? How you cooking it? I do like a ribeye, and then I usually smoke it low for a long time, and then I sear it at the end.
Starting point is 00:31:13 So I smoke it in a smoker for like an hour. Why? Because it makes it taste so like meaty and smokey. It tastes like almost like barbecue. It's delicious. Mom can attest to she loves it. She wants that. She also wants one of her grandmother's
Starting point is 00:31:31 a little teeny bit of her rice and she wants a little teeny bit of a tamale from her grandmother. Tell me about the rice. It's her favorite thing. Well, it's my favorite and I've yet to meet anyone who's been able to make it quite the way that she did. Benny's gonna try to experiment and we'll figure it out
Starting point is 00:31:50 but there isn't you know sometimes there's certain things that just your family knows. It's quite simple to Spanish rice but a lot of different different parts of like Spanish food it It could be yellow rice, it could be like white with like some stuff in it. And this is very much like a perfect orange. It's like a perfect orange with carrots and peas. And I don't even know, she grinds the spices, all this stuff that I wish I would have taken in
Starting point is 00:32:23 before she passed, but she did write it down. So I just need to figure out how to make it, but it's so delicious. It's just a family thing. Here's what else she wants. Okay. She wants a little bit of her mom's cheesy potatoes. Yeah, love those.
Starting point is 00:32:39 So she actually, we're from the South, so we make everything just how pure like it should be. So for the cheesy potatoes, she would get a Potatoes O'Brien, you know those, they're cubed, they're like cubed potatoes. And they have red peppers and a little green pepper in the mix. So she puts that in a bowl,
Starting point is 00:33:01 she does like a cream of chicken, cream of mushroom, and then she'll like mix cream of chicken, cream of mushroom, and then she'll like mix it all together with cheese. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Ooh. And then she'll sit there and just put tons of cheese as she's like mixing it,
Starting point is 00:33:18 and then when you bake it and it's like perfection. There's more. Okay. Oh, there's more. She wants one bite of Nana's chicken and dumpling. Yeah. She wants. Is this your Nana that's passed away?
Starting point is 00:33:33 No, no. Okay, so you. My grandma, I called my dad's mom Grandma and Nana's my mom's mom. Okay. She wants one piece of salmon sushi with sesame seeds on top and a dip in the soy sauce. She wants that.
Starting point is 00:33:45 Just one piece. She's gonna want one piece because she's gonna be eating a bunch. She wants, she also- So far, Sonina, is she getting this correct? I mean, yeah, but it's also like pick one. Well, no. No, this is great. These are all the things you want.
Starting point is 00:33:59 I knew if you had it your way and it was your last supper, I know exactly. She's also gonna want, this is crazy, but this is what she's gonna want. Okay. She's gonna want a Mexican pizza from Taco Bell. Yeah. And what she's gonna want to do.
Starting point is 00:34:15 A Mexican pizza, what is this? It's also my mom's favorite thing too. It's so good. She wants a vegetarian Mexican pizza, but by the time they deliver it to you, it's... Not as crunchy. It's not as crunchy, and the outside bit is crunchy. So she eats just the outside bit around the whole thing.
Starting point is 00:34:33 It's so yummy. It's basically crispy tortilla, beans, another cheese, another crispy tortilla, then they put this wonderful sauce on it and cut it into four pieces so it looks like a pizza. And this is called a chain. Yes, very. Choco Bell.
Starting point is 00:34:48 She also would love a bite of movie theater nachos, the stuff that's not even cheese, the stuff that just comes out. And she wants pickled jalapenos with the juice so she can mix a little bit of the juice with the chip. And she wants a Coke slushie. Would you try a pickle in there, like can mix a little bit of the juice with the chip and she wants a Coke Slushie. Would you try a pickle in there like Duelita? Yeah, probably.
Starting point is 00:35:10 No, I have never tried it. I wouldn't be opposed to. I feel like it's gonna be up your street. I did pickles with a grape Kool-Aid sprinkled on top. Cheapest date. I'm just processing pickles with grape juice. No, it's- Grape soda. No, do you guys have Kool-Aid?
Starting point is 00:35:29 Kool-Aid. No. Kool-Aid is- Do we have Kool-Aid? Is it like data right? No. No, it's orange squash. It's squash, okay, go ahead.
Starting point is 00:35:37 Yeah, so you put the packet in. Yeah, okay. So when I'd have a pickle ice cone, you put a little bit of that powder on and the grape with the pickle bite is. It's actually great. Did you create this invention? No, I think, you know what's funny is actually
Starting point is 00:35:55 this is a big Texas thing in a lot of Southern states, but when you go to the movies, they would have a barrel of pickles. So I would always have a pickle and popcorn. When I had- They have pickles at the theater. I love that. Every theater, every theater, the dry vans,
Starting point is 00:36:09 all the places. Do they have them here? No. I went to LA, I moved there, and every theater we went to, I was like, surely that was just one theater, that doesn't do it. Then by the third time I went to the theater,
Starting point is 00:36:21 I said, do you guys not have pickles? Cause they'd always look at me like, what are you talking about? And it's so weird because I'm telling you, the pickle with popcorn, the salty and sour is just so yummy. I don't know. I would love that.
Starting point is 00:36:37 I mean, it's such a tradition. But here's, I'm gonna go back to my fried pickles really quick. Yeah, please do. I have yet to ever have a fried pickle that I have loved more than Hooters. Hooters is like a bar where the girls wear the cute tops. It's not in LA.
Starting point is 00:36:55 It's everywhere. You could work there. Don't shut up. Lainey, let's get you a boo. Did we go there? We? No. No, it was Hooters. No, no. No, it goes. No, it goes. Who are you?
Starting point is 00:37:06 No, no. No, we didn't go there. No, but I wish that I could take him once because I want him to recreate. I'm sure he'd love to go to Hooters with you, Selena. That's what my dad did, and he was single, so he'd take me there, all the waiters thought I was cute, I would draw pictures, and he'd be like, hey.
Starting point is 00:37:20 Oh my gosh. And you love the pickles, the fried pickles. But they were, just because they're perfect, I don't know how to explain it, but people do the whole pickle fried, I'm like, that's not it, it's these thin little slices, and it's very thin. It's good if you do.
Starting point is 00:37:34 Selena, I need to know, who's a better cook? I've watched some of, I've watched some of your Selena and Chef. The entire point of my show is that I don't know. But people say this to me all the time. They're like, oh, you must be such a good cook. I'm like, I don't think you understood. I was able to follow so far.
Starting point is 00:37:54 She's a good cook. She likes to sell herself short. She does everything. What's Alina make for you? My favorite thing in the world she makes. It's one of my favorite things. It would be at my last supper. She makes, I don't know if you guys have,
Starting point is 00:38:07 do you guys, that's like a Southern thing. It's like a corn casserole. What? Or do you have corn pudding? It's a casserole because we're big on casseroles. And it has a little bit of like sweet cornbread and corn, little pieces of the corn. And you put a little bit of, I don't know the recipe,
Starting point is 00:38:29 but I actually really wanted to show you a picture. So it's actually the thing that my mom also, Selena and my mother are like actually the same person. It's kind of crazy. Oh, that's a bit weird. I know, they always say you marry your mother. It's so delicious. It's like a Virginia.
Starting point is 00:38:47 It looks a bit, without the crust it looks delicious. There's no egg. Delicious. But it doesn't have the same density as this, it's much looser. Would you have that with like brisket? Yeah, or a gooder. And it's like a side.
Starting point is 00:39:02 And then like in the South, you put hot sauce on it too. Do you like hot sauce? I love hot sauce. Do you not like hot sauce? Certain kinds. Certain kinds. He actually has pinned my kind of spicy down to a certain ingredients that I can take
Starting point is 00:39:17 and that I can't handle. You know, we were born 10 minutes away from each other. Really? 10 minutes away. What do you mean? What were you doing in Texas some day? We were born 10 minutes away from each other. Really? 10 minutes away. What do you mean? What were you doing in Texas some day? We were born 10 minutes away from each other. You were born for 10 years. Yeah, and then we moved to Virginia.
Starting point is 00:39:33 So- You're a Texan. Yeah, I- No, he can't claim to. No, no, I don't claim to. I claim Virginia. I claim Virginia. Virginia. But same, same. But it's fun because one of my favorite things to cook
Starting point is 00:39:45 is also like Southern food. Like I love like, so our Thanksgiving is more Southern based. And like my mom eats the same way. My mom's mom's from Kentucky. And it's like, you know, we love biscuits. We love cornbread. Like at our Thanksgiving,
Starting point is 00:40:00 there's like four things that are corn. There's cornbread, there's corn casserole, and there's corn pudding. And they're all very different. It's hard to explain to someone who doesn't. But there's like four things that are corn. There's cornbread, there's corn casserole, and there's corn pudding and they're all very different. It's hard to explain to someone who doesn't. But it's all corn. Yeah but it's hard to explain to someone who doesn't understand. Do they grow corn there? Where? Is that why it's so popular? Well corn is cheap. It's just a very popular choice I think. In the south like you gotta think a lot of these things were made cheaply, so it was like whatever, and corn is a thing that America has a ton of,
Starting point is 00:40:30 and it just tastes so fucking good. I love, I could eat. She eats corn, her rider is just corn. I love, like, because you can make it the Mexican street with all of the, how I grew up. So good. So your wedding's gonna be picky bits. Just corn.
Starting point is 00:40:50 It's just gonna be corn. The corny wedding. We haven't figured, the one thing, we haven't figured out like anything in our wedding yet. The only thing I've said straight up, as a part of the food, is that I want Jake to do the challah. Yes. That's all I cared about. The challah king. That is exactly what's happening. He makes the best Jake to do the challah. That's all I cared about. The challah king.
Starting point is 00:41:05 That is exactly what's happening. He makes the best challah I've ever had. That's fact. Okay, Selena, is there anything you would like to add to that last supper? Did Benny get it correct? Are you going to get married after that answer? Well, yes.
Starting point is 00:41:19 The creepy and wonderful thing about Benny is he knows me very well, very, very well. So yes, the only thing he missed is maybe just Benny Hanna's fried rice. I've never been to any of them. That's what we're doing for her birthday. It's so good. I'm gonna dress up.
Starting point is 00:41:36 We should paint them. So for her birthday, what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna dress up in the outfit and I'm gonna get behind the grill and I'm gonna do, do'm gonna dress up in the outfit and I'm gonna get behind the grill and I'm gonna do, do you know what Benihana is? Yeah, it's like Japanese-ish. Kind of.
Starting point is 00:41:52 It's like they cook it in front of you and it's a big kind of. And they do like a volcano and they light it on fire and then like they flip a shrimp in your mouth except they don't do that anymore. So it's fun. It's so fun. We went there on a date with my brother.
Starting point is 00:42:04 We did a double date recently when we were in LA. It was so fun. We went there on a date with my brother. We did a double date recently when we were in LA. It was so fun. I love it. It's so like community and you're with other people and they just cook with you or they cook in front of you. With the Fizz loyalty program, you get rewarded just for having a mobile plan. Okay, so We're Not Really Strangers is the game that you played before you had your first kiss.
Starting point is 00:42:49 Yes. Part of your love story. Basically. So I thought we'd play it now. Final card. Do we need to play the final card? No, there's a bit of a rule. So one, two, three.
Starting point is 00:43:00 One is when you're getting to know someone on a basic level, so they've created and designed, or she did, your friend, where you kind of ease your way in to getting to know someone. We'd be on one. You're gonna meet her tonight. Okay, who? The girl who made this game. You're gonna do it.
Starting point is 00:43:17 Karine, oh yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, so, should we all take, I'm sending her a picture right now. How do we do it, how do we play it? We're three, get us to three. Okay, should we all take a three? Sure. Take a three. I don't know what's going on. All do we do it? How do we play it? We're three. Get us to three. Okay, should we all take a three? Sure. Okay, take a three.
Starting point is 00:43:27 I don't know what's going on. All you gotta do is read the card, Lenny. Just pick up a card and it has a question. And we're gonna reveal something about ourselves. Do I want to know about my mother? And don't say I look like Jon Hamm again. I wasn't looking at your face. What were you looking at?
Starting point is 00:43:42 What were you looking at, Lenny? Mind your own business. Mind your own. You have to grab one too. I'm going to. I'm being a host. Okay, so what do we do now? So-
Starting point is 00:43:53 She's gonna ask everyone. So I'm gonna ask, I'm gonna say, oh, this is so weird, because it kind of makes it special when it's just, how would you describe me to a stranger? That's so weird. Okay, well, everyone knows who you are, so that's a weird one. Yeah. I would call you
Starting point is 00:44:14 honest, humble, kind, sweet, and the most adorable person I think I've ever met. Thank you. And like really- And gorgeous face. Well, yeah, that little beautiful face. No, so I hate this part. Can't stop looking, yeah. And nonjud gorgeous face. Well yeah, that little beautiful face. No, so I hate this part. Can't stop looking, yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:28 And non-judgmental. I think I'd say you're non-judgmental. No, I think everybody, I love, I have empathy and in a certain way that could be too deep and I care a lot about people. I think that's the only, like the biggest compliment I could get is my work ethic and how I treat others is like very important to me.
Starting point is 00:44:47 Benny, how would you describe your fiance to a stranger? How much time? Yeah, three, okay, five, you're allowed five. Five words. Oh. So I made a list when I really wanted to really find the person that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. Was this with your therapist?
Starting point is 00:45:13 Yeah. I made a list with my therapist and everything I wrote down on the list was actually her. Okay. It's insane. It can make me cry. This was, no, I wrote down, look. So sweet. Whoever, I don't even know what camera to look at.
Starting point is 00:45:29 Is this a camera? Yes. I don't know. Okay. Anyone out there? Oh, this is gonna be on the algorithms, guys. Oh my God. No, no, I'm serious.
Starting point is 00:45:38 If you are ready, and you have to be really ready, okay, to find the person that you wanna spend the rest of your life with. You gotta cut off all of the little thing here, little thing there, someone that you think you're dating here. You have to cut off everything that you know is bad for you. You know what's bad for you. You know what's good for you, you know what's bad for you.
Starting point is 00:45:57 That's bad for you. You cut it out, you make a list of all the things you want in a partner that you could take home to your mother, if you don't have a mother, your father, whatever, and someone you could spend the rest of your life with. And these, it can be whatever you want. My list was very simple. I wanted someone 30 plus.
Starting point is 00:46:16 I needed someone in my age bracket. I wanted someone who was kind. I know it's the craziest thing, but there's not a lot of kind people in the world. I wanted someone who was kind. I wanted someone who was kind. I know it's the craziest thing, but there's not a lot of kind people in the world. I wanted someone who was kind. I wanted someone who was caring. I wanted someone who was compassionate. I wanted someone who did anything.
Starting point is 00:46:33 I didn't care. Like just be obsessed with anything you wanna do in your life. So like if this person made olives, I want you to make olives every fucking day and come home and tell me about the olives and how want you to make olives every fucking day and come home and tell me about the olives and how passionate you are about them
Starting point is 00:46:48 and I'm gonna love it because you love it. And then I just wanted someone who knew how to not only love themself but love somebody else. And I met that person and it didn't hurt that she's also the most beautiful person on planet Earth inside and out. And yeah, and I would describe her as that. The only thing I would add is that she's so shy
Starting point is 00:47:11 and too humble and too bashful and I love her and I wanna spend the rest of my life with her. Oh my God. We should sit the landing now. Wow. I'm just not crying. Love it. Well, that's a great card.
Starting point is 00:47:25 That's a really good card. Now what's yours fucking Lenny? Okay. What's your nicknames for each other? Oh, have you just made that up? No. Okay. What's yours?
Starting point is 00:47:35 That's cute. No, for you each of you. Yeah. It works for everyone. Hers is Jessica. Okay. When you were little, it was Dewdrop. Dewdrop. Yeah, Dewdrop. Okay. And when you were little, it was dew drop. Dew drop.
Starting point is 00:47:45 Yeah, dew drop. Aw. That's crazy. I know, it's not short. I think you maybe called me Sel a few times. I called you Sel today. Yeah, Sel, definitely. Okay.
Starting point is 00:47:56 Sel. I just say babe, love, honey. Yeah, baby. I call her in my phone still to this day. Oh, it's so fair. Oh, what is she on your phone? In my phone still to this day. What is she on your phone? In my phone because I didn't want anyone to be over my shoulder looking.
Starting point is 00:48:11 So I made her Salami. Oh my God. And still to this day. Who you accidentally call all the time or text. Who? Salam Remy. Oh my God, that is true. Well, sometimes I'll be like, text'll be like, text, salami.
Starting point is 00:48:28 I love you and I miss you so much and it's salam Remy. He's a massive producer. He made the wine house stuff. And like every time I do it, I just like delete immediately. You must get so excited when he says you're a text maker. What's Sam call you? Babe. Babe.
Starting point is 00:48:47 Yeah, I call baby babe. What do you call Sam? Babe. Yeah, I think I just say babe, I say love or honey. I mean, Benny rolls off the tongue as well. It's almost like a nickname as well. It's kind of warm, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:49:01 I'm always singing a song about her names and doing weird little songs. They're so stupid. I'm so annoying. Okay, go on, you're next. It says, one word to describe how you feel right now. Drunk. I'm so stupid.
Starting point is 00:49:16 I'm so stupid. I'm so stupid. I love you. Are you? To Cosmos, I'm kind of falling over. Oh my God. You gotta pull it together, Lenny. You gotta pull it together, Lenny. I need to see you in? You're a cosmos, I'm kind of falling over. Oh my God, you gotta pull it together, I need to see you in a jockstrap today. You're waiting for the late God.
Starting point is 00:49:31 So you're feeling drugged. I'm feeling drugged, flustered. So you're feeling drugged? I'm feeling, not drunk, I feel very hot. That's because you're starting to get drunk. Selena, how do you feel right now? Very content. Oh, nice.
Starting point is 00:49:43 Are you warmer? Yeah. I'm warmer? Yeah. I'm warmer, actually. Well, I wonder why. Yeah. Okay, Benny, how do you feel right now? Crikey, Benny. I'm thinking about how I actually feel right now.
Starting point is 00:49:57 Okay. The first thing that came to my head, but I don't want that to be my thing, is I want this recipe. But the second thing that came to my head, but I don't want that to be my thing, is I want this recipe. But the second thing that came to my head is that I feel great because I'm with people I love. My mom's here. I'm about to go be surrounded by a million people I love.
Starting point is 00:50:18 We're going to have the best party. We're going to eat food. We're going to laugh. We're going to dance. Hopefully, if it's a good day, we cry a little bit in a perfect way. And I just feel, I feel content and I feel like, I would like two to three more dirty martinis just to keep this thing going.
Starting point is 00:50:39 Yeah, I think you need to keep going actually. Is someone coming in? We will, no, no, we will, we will. Don't even worry about it. Are you ready for a bit of Jake Cohen's tiramisu cake? Hell yeah. Oh! Okay, Jake Cohen. Oh.
Starting point is 00:50:52 I'm so excited. Betty told me, I was like, what should I make? She loves tiramisu. I do love tiramisu. I love tiramisu, too. If it's on the menu, I'm getting it. Oh, it's one, tiramisu creme brulee. Yes! Oh. Can I just go for it? I don't know, we're off. I think I just. Oh, it's one, tiramisu creme brulee. Yes! Can I just go?
Starting point is 00:51:06 I think I just wanna go for it. You have to have a bite too. Oh! Okay, get out and dig down. Okay, come on. Oh, come on. You devil. Mm.
Starting point is 00:51:17 Mm. What the heck? I already did this for breakfast too. Mm! Oh my god. Have you chosen the music for your first dance? I don't think we're looking at having one of those because they're a little.
Starting point is 00:51:30 She's shy. I feel embarrassed. Why? She doesn't like how her person is. I will have a special dance with my papa who, he is my. That's your grandfather. Yes, that's my grandfather and he's my mom's father.
Starting point is 00:51:46 And he never got a chance to walk my mom down the aisle because good for my mom. She decided to go to Vegas and be like, woo, and she's still been with them ever since they were like 26. So it's very cute that they did that, but I wanted to give him an opportunity to have him. How lovely. Does she know about the chairs of Jewish fantasy? Oh yeah. but I wanted to give him an opportunity to have him.
Starting point is 00:52:05 Does she know about the chairs at Jewish Wedding? Oh yeah, I am very curious about that. Just choose the people who are carrying you. Just make sure you get some men. Jake will do it. You need strong men on each leg. I had no Jews at my wedding, and so nobody understood, so I had all the bridesmaids trying to lift me up,
Starting point is 00:52:26 and all the boys went to the, because they didn't bloody know, there were a load of boys. So it was like what? Don't worry. Okay, well I have to be honest, it looks so cute and adorable, but I was like, what? I have to depend on just something like this?
Starting point is 00:52:42 Jay, you're, yeah. We got, we got. It's like the biggest trust fall ever. It is. We got so many people to take you up. I just gonna have a padding around the pad. No, you'll be fine. I've got a couple more questions for you. Yeah, let's do it. What, Jessie?
Starting point is 00:52:58 What's always in your fridge? Shut up. Okay, go. What's in your fridge? This is my fucking podcast, Benjamin. Jesse's fridge is so messy. Yeah, I know. It's probably like my mom's. You know how messy it is.
Starting point is 00:53:08 My mom's is crazy. I'm like Patrick Bateman in American Psycho. So like everything's organized. How do you feel about this, Selena? Do you quite like the- I like how it looks in the fridge. The freezer is where everything scares me because he should never tell me
Starting point is 00:53:27 that anything's been frozen. Because when I was younger, my Nana would freeze things and then it would have like freezer, freezer. Yeah. And a weird taste. So whenever he freezes like everything from fresh corn to like fresh okra so that it lasts. Birthday cake. Yeah, how do you do that? And you'll freeze them. Yeah, always. Freezes like everything from fresh corn to like fresh okra so that last they cake
Starting point is 00:53:45 Yeah, I'm freezing. Yeah always when I've been back two years later the same birthday cake, but it's all fine Sorry, Benny, I'm not sure it is. Yes. It is if you pack something right, it's fine. What do you think Selena? I he's shown me again. Yeah, I doesn't't even know. Like he'll give me something to eat and I'll be like, this is fantastic. And he'll say, yeah, I've ate it like five, four years ago. Okay, okay. First of all, I learned from my mother. My mother, you open up her freezer.
Starting point is 00:54:17 It's like the natural history museum. It's like, you open up her freezer. I loved, she goes, I'm eating Thanksgiving. Now I said, mom, that was from the Thanksgiving before this year. When we were kids, she was like, oh, it's not, if we had cheese, it's not bad, just cut around the mold. I do that too, moms do that.
Starting point is 00:54:35 So here's actually a great thing. So what I do is, you know, we grow vegetables and stuff. So let's say you grew some great corn, okay? What you're gonna do is you're gonna shave it all off and you're gonna put it in a proper freezer bag and then you freeze it and then you get to have it through the months that it- And it's sweet.
Starting point is 00:54:52 Yes, the months that aren't on. Like there's certain things you can't freeze, but like lots of things you can freeze, like okra, perfect thing to freeze. There's certain things that are gonna last, like tuna only lasts like a week or two because it's gonna change colors. But like salmon lasts like six months in the freezer.
Starting point is 00:55:10 That's crazy. No, you just have to know. I always have salmon in the freezer. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, shut up. Okay, so what would we always find in your fridge? What is always gonna be in Benny and Celine?
Starting point is 00:55:21 Well, okay. My fridge will start because it's pretty easy. On my writer, and usually what's left in my fridge is Red Bull, Gatorade, some jar of pickles. I like, in my writer, I like cheese cubes. What kind of cheese? It doesn't matter. Okay.
Starting point is 00:55:44 I know all that. And hot Cheetos. No, you have more. Can you freeze your grandma's chicken dumplings? No. That's why I really want him to give it a fair shot because it was very hard to travel with. Yeah. Because right when it's hot and fresh, it's so good.
Starting point is 00:56:00 I love chicken and dumplings. But I just feel like you need to have it again. He's very tivity, that's why I haven't really cooked with him. You're an insubordinated chef. No, it's so good. Her mother's a great cook, her grandmother's a great cook. We have the best meal.
Starting point is 00:56:15 You're so good. Everyone is great. But I want you to be honest. Except Jessie, she sucks. Oh, sorry. She's a great cook. Benny, what's always in your fridge? I'm always going to have just little staples
Starting point is 00:56:29 so you can make a meal immediately. So like I'm always gonna have some eggs. I'm always gonna have some great sauces that I've made because it's so easy to put a meal together. If you just have like a few sauce, if you have like a chimichurri, if you have like a yogurt saw, like you can always pull everything together.
Starting point is 00:56:49 And then in my freezer, I'm always gonna have some sort of protein that I can pull out to frost, make a meal. I'm always gonna have, I love pickle. I think what I love is, if I can interject, it's very much inaccessible. So like this morning he made scallops, what was it? With some rice.
Starting point is 00:57:13 Like he just, like every morning it's something different. I keep everything frozen. But mom, when we came back from a workout in LA, you made a piece of cod, you made these very slow roasted potato in chicken stock, and you talk, I've realized he talks whilst he cooks. Yeah. Because we've got a nice bit of cod here.
Starting point is 00:57:32 Oh. And then you were gonna put the, you talk all the way. I always want to help, but I always end up hugging him when he's cooking. Yeah, just hugging. She always hugs me at the worst part. I could be in a fight, I could be in a police chase, the SWAT team, and she comes up and just hugs me, right?
Starting point is 00:57:47 Like whenever I'm like flipping something in fry oil, she just comes right behind me, or cutting with the sharpest knife. What do you wanna say, Lyn? Benny, there's a restaurant called River Cafe. Do you know if you've been there? I've been there. Right, so Ruth Rogers always finishes her meal
Starting point is 00:58:00 with ice cream. What would be your flavor? I'm not a huge... Benny, your freezer was full of ice cream. What would be your flavor? I'm not a huge. Benny, your freezer was full of ice cream in it. That's for everyone else. Jenny's is delicious. That's for everyone else. I'm not a huge ice cream guy.
Starting point is 00:58:13 If I do, I really like Butterfield's frozen peanut butter, peanut butter fro-yo. I'm more of like, I like sour candy. Okay, Selena, what's your ice cream? Are you an ice cream guy? Yeah, I'm a rocky road. Rocky road? Always. Rocky road.
Starting point is 00:58:34 Where are you getting your rocky road from? From, what's the one that Papa uses? Baskin-Rosman? No. Oh, Haagen-Dazs? No, the Texas brand with the cow on it. Bluebell, thank you. I love you, I love you, man? No. Oh, hoggin' us? No, Texas Bram with a cow on it. Bluebell. Bluebell, thank you. I love you, I love you, I love you. Bluebell is one of my favorite ice creams.
Starting point is 00:58:52 Vanilla is the best for root beer cokes, but, or what are they called? Float. I just don't know what the taste is for everyone else, but it's so classic and they're rocky road. Every single bite has a nut and a marshmallow. It's like perfect. I will tell you one thing. Jenny's ice cream made this one ice cream
Starting point is 00:59:15 that was so crazy. It was everything bagel ice cream and it was so good. Okay, you wanna know what the best ice cream is that I had recently? It was vanilla ice cream, but it had a salted caramel mixed with soy sauce. And it was like, I know it sounds weird, but it was, at Coat, have you had that one?
Starting point is 00:59:33 Is it good? It's so good. I also just had an ice cream. I'm not an ice cream guy, but. You remember? Yeah, I remember. Well, I'm not an ice cream guy, but if it's in front of me, I'm gonna fucking eat it.
Starting point is 00:59:40 Yeah, I love ice cream. Okay, I had this ice cream where they put, I know it sounds crazy, but they put little teeny bits of corn nuts in it and it was so good because it was like the saltiness of the corn. Do you know what? Because it was crunchy. Do you guys have corn nuts?
Starting point is 00:59:56 Yeah, yeah. Like the kernel. Yeah, like the kernel. They're like they buy at a gas station and petrol station. Were they hot though? Very crunchy. They were crunchy, but they were like little bits
Starting point is 01:00:07 and it had salted caramel in it too and like a whipped cream. So you like, it was delicious. I also just recently had one other ice cream. I know this. Oh, I'm not an ice cream guy. You're so fancy. It's all that, it's two things. We were at Thai diner and they did.
Starting point is 01:00:22 Where's that, in New York? It's in New York. It's the same people who used to own Uncle Boone's. So they had ice cream and they like put like toasted coconut on top. And then there's like so much coconut cream on top of the ice cream. And then they make like candied Thai peanuts on top.
Starting point is 01:00:38 And I have a picture of it actually. Okay, I'd like to see it. How delicious. Last question. Nostalgic taste or scent that can transport you back somewhere, happy or sad? You know, I think for a while, I mean, I guess I suppose it's still in style, but the lava was very...
Starting point is 01:00:59 Lava? The perfume? Tricky, yes. What, like triggering? It just was like a lot of what... Ex-boyfriends Tricky, yes. What, like, triggering? Scent hell, it just was like a lot of what- Ex-boyfriends wearing it, yeah, okay. It felt like too familiar, but the older I've gotten, the more it doesn't bother me.
Starting point is 01:01:13 I have a beautiful L'Alaba diffuser that's so pretty. What's your scent that you go for? I love anything woodsy. I think that's like my favorite. I bought two for our new place but I'm just yeah I think that one and then taste yeah I'm trying to think I think taste is probably the pickle snow cone because it makes me think of when my dad would pick me up and we'd usually stop to get a snow cone and then we'd
Starting point is 01:01:42 you know go back to his house and watch a movie or something. It was, those two things bring me back. Okay, smell. The beautiful Japanese coil incense. That reminds me of you. Yeah, I've always been on those since I was 18. The incense reminds me of you. You introduced me into actually,
Starting point is 01:02:04 I do think I do. He's so good with you. You introduced me into like, actually. I did. He's so good with smells. You do have good ones, babe. And then, taste. Okay, when we were kids, me and my friends, do you guys know what a George Foreman grill is? Uh-huh. Okay, so when we were kids,
Starting point is 01:02:22 one of my friends, Julian, was the first person I'd ever seen with a George forming grill. We used to get stoned, and we would make these like elaborate panini sandwiches, and think we were Gordon Ramsay. They were disgusting. My friend would, I still remember,
Starting point is 01:02:38 my friend would get sourdough bread from Trader Joe's. Do you guys have Trader Joe's? No, we love Trader Joe's, but we love it. Sourdough bread from Trader Joe's, and we guys have Trader Joe's? No. We love Trader Joe's. Sourdough bread from Trader Joe's and we put all different things inside of it and we would melt it and we'd put, my friend would always put rice vinegar for some reason and he would be like, and put it in and we would get stone, we'd cut them up and they'd be like these cheesy things and then everyone would taste it and we would think, you know when you're high and... How think, you know when you're high and...
Starting point is 01:03:05 How old were you? No. 13, you never smoked weed? Okay, you know when you're high and... Maybe tonight's the night. You think you're, everyone in your, one person in your friend group thinks they're a genius, okay? Who was that?
Starting point is 01:03:17 All of us thought we were a genius. We had the sandwiches and you'd be like, and when you eat, it just hits different and you're just like, ugh, and it would be like that every time. And I still remember the smell of the cheese just as it would melt and it would be like heaven. And we would see, yeah, we would watch it. We would sit under, did you guys ever sit
Starting point is 01:03:37 like underneath the thing and you'd be waiting because you didn't wanna lift it up too early because then the steam and the melt, you don't know what I'm talking about. You never even smoked weed in your life, Lenny. Tonight's the night, Lenny. Would you smoke weed with Jon Hamm? If he said right now, he said, you gotta smoke weed.
Starting point is 01:03:50 Is he coming tonight? Is he coming? He's under the table, he's waiting for you, Lenny. Would you smoke weed with Jon Hamm? Yeah. I'd do anything with Jon Hamm. Okay, Lenny and Selena, thank you so much for coming. Thank you so much.
Starting point is 01:04:07 I'm being such... Benny's wasted. Hey, I'm going to have to Selena's iced tea because I'm flushed. Dirty Martini has really gone to my head. And Mum is on her third... Oh my god, you're pouring Selena's Cosmo. Oh my god. Don't care.
Starting point is 01:04:40 Pull yourself together, woman. It's the best I've felt for two days. You're going to fall asleep in the boom bar. Thank you to Benny and Selena for coming on the podcast. Always a pleasure Benny. Always good fun. And Selena, you're welcome back for another whenever you want babe. And thank you to Standard for having us.
Starting point is 01:05:00 Oh yeah. There's a big gay party going on next week. I'm going. I feel like you would be raised onto a chair like I'm getting married. Their shoulders and praise with a cosmo in your hand. Are you finishing Selena's cosmo? Yes you are. We're in New York City and it could go one way or the other but so far so good.
