Starting point is 00:00:00 Tabs out. Bonus episode. Too spooky. Way too spooky. Tabs out, cassette podcast, bonus episode, and a very hopefully lucrative bonus episode, if you catch my drift. I'm Mike here with Jamie. Hello.
Starting point is 00:00:40 Jamie, how you doing, man? I'm pretty good. How are you? Well, Jamie, I'm not here to talk about that. I'm here to talk about something else. Maybe you've been hearing about a lot of these clowns on the internet. Everyone's making money in all these weird, all these silly new ways. Have you noticed any of these silly new ways with the GameStop? Like the blockchain?
Starting point is 00:01:01 The blockchains with the the NFTs the fungus tokens hmm they're making money and all the thing so it's got me thinking because you know another fiscal year has passed and it's time I'm looking at the books over here tabs on HQ and it's not it's it's not exactly We're not doing that great, unfortunately. And I'm thinking there's got to be a way to make money with these tapes. And I don't mean like listening to them on Discogs and like waiting around and then sending them. And then somebody's getting in touch with me
Starting point is 00:01:39 and saying the Norelco case is broken. And I'm like, of course the Norelco case is broken. I mailed it to you, so it's broken now. The Norelco case is broken. And I'm like, of course the Norelco case is broken. Yeah. I mailed it to you. So it's broken now. Like, this is nature at work. I want to do it in a whole new way. And I thought we could brainstorm.
Starting point is 00:01:55 We could use a bonus episode as an opportunity for us to get rich. Hold on. Cha-ching. Off these tapes. And while we brainstorm, here's obviously the first thing. This is a no-brainer. I don't even need this storm to occur.
Starting point is 00:02:12 As soon as I thought about this, as soon as I thought about doing this kind of bonus episode, the first thing I thought of was, well, if we're going to somehow be converting these tapes to money or making them a stock somehow. I don't know how stock. But you'll have to explain most of this to me. A public offering. You're going to have to walk me through this holding my hand.
Starting point is 00:02:38 The first thing, though, this is just cold hard cash right here. This girl pusher tape. What is it? This is a tape that girl pusher death bomb arc put out i think in 2016 maybe um and the cover is and this is illegal by the way so i don't condone this but the cover is a dollar bill my friend so really you can't do that you can they wrote all over it and you can all over ge George Washington's wooden head, they wrote on it in a purple. That's legal tender right there.
Starting point is 00:03:10 This is legal tender, and they have graffitied upon 100% of it. And there's a hole in it. So this might. That might be. They might take a penny off. But here's what I'm thinking. I'm thinking this tape came out in, what did I say, 2016? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:29 Find me out, Jamie. Look it up. Find out what a dollar in 2016 is worth today with inflation. I'm Googling it. Look it up. It's a dollar1.09 today. Are you serious? Increase of $0.09 over five years.
Starting point is 00:03:50 So we're already making money. This is an addition of $0.40. I'm thinking I use that $0.09. I invest it in another copy. I get another copy. Then what do I got? That's $0.18. How does this work?
Starting point is 00:04:04 How does the economy work yeah these are these are limited edition tapes they can't they're not they can't just print money you're not just printing money girl pusher is a duo look it up for me i wrote it down but i left the paper downstairs and i'm not going back down there time is money time is money girl Time is money. Girl pusher. Who is it? It's Gabby Giuliano and Jared Hine. Giuliano or Giuliani? Wow. It's Giuliano.
Starting point is 00:04:34 Okay, good. And where are they from? It doesn't say on Discogs, but one of the comments says, first thoughts, oh, it's a female version of Atari Teenage Riot. I like it. The samples are rad. Okay. All right, well, that came out a few years ago.
Starting point is 00:04:51 I think it's called Singles or something like that. I don't know where they're from. We don't know. Let's look at the Bandcamp. We'll see where they're from. Bandcamp is, yeah, your precious disguise. From Los Angeles. La La Land.
Starting point is 00:05:01 La La Land. Ooh, making a big move out west, going to make it big. Okay, so there's our first way right there. I'm also thinking we take something, the gold standard, right? Is the gold standard, is that still in use? I believe so, yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:19 Are we using it? So I'm looking all through my tapes. I'm like, what do we got here? What do we got that, what do I have that can represent the gold standard? Do I grab a tape with a gold shell? Eh, maybe. But then I gotta kind of look through all of them.
Starting point is 00:05:35 Do I grab a tape on the label Goldtimers? And I'm thinking, I'm thinking, I absolutely do that. Do you remember this label? I've heard of it. I think it was chicago i want to say i want to say whoever ran red electric or um fuck what was it called whoever ran neon blossom also did this label i think um yeah they have i think there's a couple there's a there's an early on Red Electric Rainbow tape.
Starting point is 00:06:07 Is there really? Yeah. It sounds like I nailed it then. Probably did. Yes, sir. There's also, yeah. The first release is Mortal Mountain Band, which I have no idea what that is.
Starting point is 00:06:17 And there's only one released by that artist. So it's probably the person that does Red Electric Rainbow, Daniel D. Smith. The tape I'm holding is number 14. Tell me the year that does Red Electric Rainbow, Daniel D. Smith. The tape I'm holding is number 14. Tell me the year that that came out, and tell me what it is. Whoa. So you're talking about... Tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock.
Starting point is 00:06:34 Can you do a Jamie? What's the artist again? Oh, come on. Come on. I'll just say it's the Christopher Merritt Sound Out Light split. Oh, okay. Our very own Dave Doyen, Sound Out Light. Dave Doyen. Yes, our very own. Did a split with Christopher Merritt. Our very own Dave Doyen, Sound Out Light. Yes, our very own. Did a split with Christopher Merritt. Dave's not here!
Starting point is 00:06:49 I want you to find out, let's find out who's, who do you think's worth more? Which artist do you think is worth more? And how do we find that out? Well, I think you would go based on the value of their synthesizers. So they're both,
Starting point is 00:07:01 they're both synth guys, right? They are, but I don't, when you bring in the synth. I don't think those guys have many assets beyond their synthesizers. They're both synth guys, right? They are, but I don't... I don't think those guys have many assets beyond their synthesizers. No, I've looked over Dave's books. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:07:14 Trust me, I logged into his quick and last... He was doing his taxes. I was looking over his shoulder. And I'm like, I don't know, Dave. I don't know. A W1? You're supposed to have a W2. Wow. Are the numbers screwed up? No, you can't. Just because you put out a tape on your label
Starting point is 00:07:30 and no one bought it, you can't write that off. Do you know how much a gold bar is worth today? How heavy? I don't know, it's a standard weight. Oh, standard? Just guess how much. One bar of gold. One bar of gold?
Starting point is 00:07:44 Yeah. Three cents. guess how much one bar of gold one bar of gold yeah three cents you're way way off can i guess again can i get a second guess yeah yeah much higher seven billion dollars it's uh it's about six hundred twenty three thousand dollars for a gold bar okay yeah so like when i'm watching a movie and someone's holding a gold bar that's a good reference for me now that's pretty cool that's pretty actually you know what jamie that is pretty cool because i have watched i watched a movie not long ago and the guy had a gold bar and i had previously no frame of reference and now i know what you say like six hundred and twenty three thousand dollars yeah it's a lot so we gotta get a hold of one of those but until i think go on
Starting point is 00:08:25 discogs and look at christopher merit like what um look at his items for sale like people who are selling his stuff and tell me what the highest list thing highest thing for sale who do you think is gonna have a higher one dave or chris oh man dave needs it. All right, wait a minute. There's a funk soul gospel album for $100, but I think that's a different Christopher Merritt. That's not this Christopher Merritt. I'm not counting that. Hold on.
Starting point is 00:08:55 Don't count that one. No, don't count that one. Okay. All right, Christopher Merritt, the most expensive one is 20 pounds, and we're going to have to do a conversion on that. That's heavy. What's that, a box set? 20 pounds.
Starting point is 00:09:07 No, it's just a cassette tape. 20 pounds, that's a heavy tape. Must be a long one. Oh, I get it. So now for Dave Doyen. Am I searching the Sound Out Light project, or am I searching Dave Doyen? No, it's got to be Sound Out Light.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Sound Out Light? Okay, let's see. Sound Out Light, 20 pounds. A tie? You know what? I want to do American Money only. I don't do this. It's the same tape.
Starting point is 00:09:37 No, I didn't mind. It's a comp on Sacred Phrases. Oh, that doesn't count. No, no, no. Sorry, sorry, sorry. And I don't do, just do American Dollars. Oh, okay. My grandfather didn't throw. No, no, no. Sorry, sorry, sorry. And I don't do, just do American dollars, you know. Oh, okay. My grandfather didn't throw tea in the river,
Starting point is 00:09:48 so we can be talking about pounds, but we mean money. All right, well, the most, you're not going to like this, but the most expensive tape is the Gold Timers tape that you're holding, being sold for $18.99 USD. That's some heat. That's some heat. All right, the next one that's just Dave is Sound Out Lights Current on Little Earn that came out a few years ago. $10.
Starting point is 00:10:08 $10. One once going twice. All right, $10. Christopher Merritt. I'm not fast enough. All right, USD. Price. Hurry up.
Starting point is 00:10:24 Okay. Christopher Merritt, $ 12.99 oh beds on tranquility tapes does that mean christopher merritt one christopher merritt one you kind of lost me in the middle i kind of zoned out there for a bit you're saying you're telling me christopher merritt is more expensive than dave doyen yeah and even if you look at his look at his profile picture he's got some some serious modular equipment behind him who are we talking about do we talk about dave or chris chris yeah but i think i think that's just a superimposed background or something or he's at a museum or something oh yeah you think you think that he i think most of these guys are green screen in their sense and to tell you the truth that's another way to save some cash if we're talking about making money here.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Yeah. Okay. Christopher Merritt will play his side of the gold timers tape or the gold timers split with Sound Out Live. Sorry, Dave. Now look at this. I just have a quick anecdote about this tape. On Discogs, there's two copies for sale. One's $4.50.
Starting point is 00:11:22 Great shape. One's $18.99. Jewel case has a crack. So which one are you going to go with well let me see how bad is the crack in the jewel case it doesn't say see that's what it could be like an explosion yeah like you could get just a bag of plastic shards you know what i mean oh yeah you don't want to fuck with that i'll take you don? Oh, yeah. You don't want to fuck with that. You don't want to mail that. You don't want to mail something that's already cracked. Let me see. We're going to have a guest on in a little bit to help us out with some cash.
Starting point is 00:11:53 Some cash problems. Okay. Should we try to cram in one more tape? I got two tapes here that could represent this theme that we're going for. Okay. I'm trying to think which one I want to do. You know, I'm going to do this one. Here's a way we could save some cash.
Starting point is 00:12:10 We cancel rent. Am I right or am I right? No rent. No rent. It's on the spine already. They already told us what to do. I like that. I got this Darksmith tape
Starting point is 00:12:22 that came out on No Rent. Darksmith of California. I guess he had an ad of California to it for some reason. There must be another Darksmith. Is there a Darksmith NYC or a Darksmith UK? I don't know. Darksmith AD. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:39 What else could there be? Darksmith 182. 182. I thought you might do one Jamie sorry regret everything is the name of the tape this was no rent written way too small
Starting point is 00:12:54 find me the year on that I think it was 2020 and find me find out who does the artwork all this darksmith artwork with these like sicko fucked up in the headline drawings of like nightmare people oh yeah i'm looking at that now oh my god there's one on the inside oh scary oh it's this mask when there's like spaghettis coming
Starting point is 00:13:17 out of his mouth yes there is oh and every oh my god there's so many every time you unfold one there's another panel with another person doing an awful thing. A businessman with a phone and these... This is the first release on No Rent. What are you saying this is the first release on No Rent? No Rent 001. What is? Not this
Starting point is 00:13:37 Darksmith of California tape. It is. Regret Everything. No. It is. No. It is. No. It is. It comes with a poster. Do you have the poster? Somebody already asked me that. I feel like Aaron Dilloway asked me that, and I already said no. So what am I holding?
Starting point is 00:13:56 A reissue? I don't know. Discogs only has the one. Are you sure it's called Regret Everything? Yeah, I'm looking at the Bandcamp page. Let's spell it together. R-E-G-R-E-T space E-E-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G. Okay, yeah, so it's the same one.
Starting point is 00:14:27 Okay, good. Let's play these tapes and then get our guest, Mari, a.k.a. Maurice, the hell out here. Thank you. I've been choking my pain I think it's for your memory I'm on my game This is my domain This is my domain I don't want to go slow
Starting point is 00:15:21 I want to go home I wish you're fucking here, I think you're not to make me bleed I want what's taken from me, not what is good for me I just want to love, I just want to die I'm broken so I think you be the one to give you the love of your life I can't kill you Cause I will catch you I will touch you
Starting point is 00:15:58 And you'll think that you are a friend like me I can't kill you And you will feel all my love I want to feel it like me I want to feel it like me I want to feel it like me Cause I'm trying to make some new acts Cause I'm trying to make some new acts I'm trying to be your turtle I'm not meant to be your turtle

Starting point is 00:16:42 I know. I know. I know. I know. I know. I know. I know. I'm making island from the bones of this party I am going through hell, guys! I am going through hell! And I turn the voice of joy Over the women that fall in love with both my toes The light cases still wax I don't like to think I'm chasing still lights It's so sad that you're so small And you still don't listen
Starting point is 00:17:51 You're like burning down Pursuing like a doctor Running into memories When I wish I could run faster Fuck around and find your higher planet I need something to drink tomorrow. I'm thirsty. I'm so nervous I'm out. Thank you. Thank you. so Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I'm going to go. Come on. I'm sorry. Thank you. The The the the
Starting point is 00:26:08 the the the the the the the The The I-10 East so I don't know. Thank you. so so so so so so Hello. hello
Starting point is 00:30:27 oh shit i'm muted i can't hear y'all yeah i was totally muted sorry about that hey jamie are you unmuted i think so i don't there was a whole situation where i was muted you had to be there but it was hilarious mari more ease yeah thanks for inviting me you could be doing anything tonight and you probably maskless and at full capacity right because shit is going crazy in texas yeah it's a yeah mean, you fucking can walk into Chili's and dine in without a mask. Like all of my wildest dreams come true at last. Great pasta.
Starting point is 00:31:11 How many times have you done that? It was really hard. It was really hard to give that up on, you know, opening night of maskless Chili's to be here, but. Great pasta. Had to ask myself some tough questions. Oh, you gave it up to be with us?
Starting point is 00:31:24 Of course, yeah. Wow. Very honored. had to ask myself some tough questions oh you gave it up to be with us of course yeah wow very honored where are you exactly you're you're in jamie you had it earlier let's act like we know something where's mari from uh austin texas austin texas yes very good has like the overall like vibe in texas with like no mask and has that trickled down to like the diy zone like has there has there been like house shows and stuff planned you know um not any that i know of you would tell me you would tell me though right oh I would tell you I think that maybe there was like one harsh noise uh like maskless show that I heard about but I didn't know anyone who played it uh so you know I it could all be hearsay too but I vaguely remember hearing something about that kind of early on in quarantine.
Starting point is 00:32:27 But no, it hasn't really trickled down to the DIY scene. Austin's been pretty cautious in general, but it's the fucking Wild West the second you get out of Austin. Oh, yeah. Yeah. How often do you have to get out of Austin? Not too much i go down to san antonio with some regularity to uh work on stuff with claire rusey um and that's sort of been my one big like uh outside of my home contact during quarantine has just been going and doing stuff with claire
Starting point is 00:33:01 you you have had a few collabs come out recently like on Astral Spirits and stuff. Do you like working with others in person or are you doing a lot of these things I guess now are you doing any virtual collabs?
Starting point is 00:33:22 Here's my question. Here it is. Are you ready? it's the big wind up yeah i'm ready are you ready okay how has your collab life changed um that's a really good question yes great job yeah bravo thank you so much. Welcome back. Before quarantine, I definitely did more live collabs. I was doing a lot of improvising with people before quarantine and played a big
Starting point is 00:33:56 free improv festival here with some people with Zach Watkins of Black Spirituals and Bob Hoffner. That was like kind of the last more used show I played live before everything shut down. But I didn't do a ton of like recorded collabs.
Starting point is 00:34:19 I was doing some, I was already working with Claire and doing some stuff with Seth Graham too. But all of that has really ramped up a ton since quarantine and I think most of the things like I'm working on now are all collaborative in some way and it's really great I wouldn't have it any other way I feel like it kind of like gets me out of habits I would do myself and patterns I would fall into. So I am all about collaborating as much as I possibly can. What kind of habits do you talk when you do,
Starting point is 00:34:54 when you are working on solo stuff, what are some of your bad habits that you're trying to get away from? Let me guess. Let me guess. Yeah. Take some guesses. Let me guess. Picking your nose and tasting it. Not so much the taste, but definitely lots of picking my nose for sure. It's very, very dry. Yeah. Wait, not a dry heat in Texas. Jamie, do you have a guess? Oh boy. You don't want to sweep the filter too fast. You want to go nice and slow on that filter sweep. That's true. I actually, I would say logistically, I have had to slow my roll on filter sweeps pretty significantly. Is this an exclusive? Or have you said this in any other
Starting point is 00:35:37 interviews? I've never said this in an interview before. Oh yeah. Journalism right now. I know. Well know well let's let's pivot to the subject at hand i don't know if we explain this to you jamie and i were talking about this earlier um we're trying to to come up with some way to make money off these cassette tapes a quick way a quick way and we we wanted to know if you would help us with something. I was thinking, were you familiar with the whole GameStop thing with the stock market? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Were you big into that? Do you have any of the shares right now? No, I don't have any GameStop shares. No.
Starting point is 00:36:18 No? Okay. Well, we were wondering, and I'm not sure how this is going to work. Jamie's going to explain. He swore he would explain it to me. Okay. But here's what I'm thinking. I'm thinking a future tape that you have coming out, me and Jamie can bet against it, and then we can do insider trading and tank it. And then somehow, I don't know how, but somehow we make cash off of it lose mike okay am i back you just froze yeah you got the gist though right yeah yeah bet on a future tape that's coming out
Starting point is 00:36:57 um bet against it no we want to bet against it so we're gonna we're gonna we're yeah we gotta think of what do you have coming out Like what are some projects that you're either working on right now or are the next things on the horizon? There are a few, there's a bunch of things come out. Actually, almost none of them are tapes, unfortunately. I think some of them, yeah. I understand if you have to kick me off the show now it would make a lot of sense goodbye yeah um no but you can go on i will i might have to say i'll i'll bleep a few things out
Starting point is 00:37:37 if need be but go ahead feel feel free feel free to speak of anything you'd like so i do have a few things i guess there are a couple things coming out of orange milk that are but will be like lp with cassette so so there's something with there's a collab with seth graham and then also another collab with claire coming out on orange milk Milk at some point this year. Wow, that's big news. That's huge news. And are these both LPs with a companion cassette?
Starting point is 00:38:13 Or were you saying there's a cassette? Allegedly, yes. Allegedly? Yeah. Wait a minute. Allegedly? Is there something that, like, something we don't know what do you mean allegedly so like i know for sure with one of them yes there's there's supposed to be a cassette and then the other one i assume there will be a cassette
Starting point is 00:38:38 but i should probably talk to seth about that which one is the one where you know there's going to be a cassette the one with claire okay Okay, very nice. How can we tank it? How can we tank this? So me and Jamie, we're going to... I don't know how it works. It's a pump and dump. It's a pump and dump. He keeps telling me it's a pump and dump. I keep hearing that phrase too, but I also really don't know what it means. I have no clue what it means. So we've got to send Seth and Keith some seed money, really get it pumped up.
Starting point is 00:39:10 So we invest in it. So we're investing in it, and we're going to make money in the end? Well, that's the trick. You make money. Let me tell you for this one. I'm a little unsure how this works. How can we tank it? What can we do? What do you think? Let's say let's let's think about cover art of the tape. This this Claire Morey's collab LP cassette on orange milk. I'm going to preorder it. Then all of a sudden the tape. Big picture of Ted Cruz's face with a big Texas steak on the tape big picture of ted cruz's face with a big texas steak on the bottom wow i think there's
Starting point is 00:39:48 a pretty good likelihood yeah that that we could do this that you could make this happen because what are you gonna do what are you gonna do just get seth graham just get seth graham to do the art or keith rank or something you're going to okay we'll put an orb under tech cruz's face yeah we'll do that that i think i think you could probably sell them on that and then and then i'm assuming no one's going to want it then what happens jamie how do we how do we how does this work for us what is blockchain what is blockchain well that stands for a non-fungible token so can i swear that's not a word. This is a really educational I took my SATs. That's not on there.
Starting point is 00:40:28 Well, how about can we make one of these? What happens if we play a more ease tape? Can we then own that as an NFT and then that'll be ours? Let's try. Let me try.
Starting point is 00:40:50 Now is the time to switch to CREO Mobile. Get the 32GB iPhone SE for $10. While the buy is fast, just build cloud-based on the legendary CLM on all of the English web. Go. Go. Go. Go. Go. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Thank you. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:42:28 I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:42:44 I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Oh, no, I froze. I froze and I came back. Did we make any money? What happened? Well, when you were talking about NFTs, but then when you dropped off, we started talking about Mike Nigro. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Because she did this awesome oxtail stream not too long ago. um nfts but then when you dropped off we started talking about mike nigro oh yeah yeah because she did this uh awesome oxtail stream not too long ago and she put out a tape on oxtail in 2018.
Starting point is 00:43:12 i'm holding that one right here that's the tape and how did this get how did you get hooked up with mike nigro here let me guess can i guess sure take a guess jam Jamie. What? I think it was email. Email, email. Do you want to see if it was email? Was it email? It was email. Oh, okay. I have a really weird connection with Mike where he was like dating a really good friend of my childhood best friends and I met him I was touring with another
Starting point is 00:43:49 band in New York in 2018 and was at um I went to just go see a show I went to go see Leah play with the Horse Lords it was super great but we had like an off night I was like I'm gonna go hang out at the show a bunch of friends are playing. And met my childhood best friend who is like not in experimental music at all, but just was hanging out. And Mike came up and was like, hey, are you Maurice? And it was just like completely wild, unplanned meeting. And we were already talking about the tape at the time. But just turned out to be a crazy connection there. Oh, you had already planned talking about the tape at the time but uh just turned out to be a crazy
Starting point is 00:44:25 like connection there oh you had already planned to do the tape yeah and then it was like oh shit and like i think we had only talked about it like that week or the week before and then mike just like tapped me on the shoulder at the show in new york not knowing I was going to be in New York at all. And we wound up talking for a few minutes. Wow. That's awesome. Goddamn. Only in New York. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. what were you doing in new york i was just playing um i was touring as the guitar player for um a band called the octopus project and so i went on a few tours with them in like 2018 2019 and is that is that a jam band the octopus project definitely sounds like a jam band? The Octopus Project definitely sounds like a jam band. They are actually surprisingly very not jam band. If anything, I am the one pushing for that band to be a jam band more than anybody else in the group right now. I'm just like, can we please? Beyond like electronic stuff and experimental stuff, what other musical projects do you have going on um i play with like a few different bands in austin i play with a band right now called
Starting point is 00:50:32 alex alone um who are like very heavy but very sort of pretty stuff kind of in the vein of like, um, hum or, uh, Boris at times, like the more melodic Boris stuff. And so I played bass with that band. Um, but then also recorded a lot of strings and electronics for a record they have coming out. And then I have also played in this pop band called Slow Mo Drags for a while. And Slow Mo Drags actually did a tape on Artie Dead Tapes several years ago. And they have something coming out like in, actually, I don't know when.
Starting point is 00:51:19 I thought I had a time date on that. And I just realized I do not know. But I've played guitar in that band for a long time uh I've played guitar in that band with that band for a long time and the lead singer of that band is like one of my oldest music collaborators I've been working with him since I was about 19 years old you've done a bunch on already dead haven't you yeah is there like a texas connection to that label because i know it's like multi-pronged right there's like people all there's like you know people stationed all over the country they're they're stationed like
Starting point is 00:51:56 lone wolves they're like uh what are they called splinter cells is there is there a texas element to that to that label you know i think there is now i think i might kind of have been inadvertently responsible for what did you do i just like introduced a lot of people to the label and a super spreader every yeah i'm a super spreader oh i was going to i was going to ask with the name more ease it makes me think of like easing restrictions and i was wondering if you had something to do with it oh yeah and now that i'm hearing about these other super spreader event now it's the already dead splinter cell does a lot of lobbying in texas and so through the more ease corporation of course and and like we are pretty much directly responsible for lifting the mask
Starting point is 00:52:47 mandate. Greg Abbott has a tape on already dead. I think. Yeah. I actually wouldn't be surprised. There's it's a very, everybody has a tape on our, I don't, but Jamie, you don't, we don't. No, I don't. Everybody but me and Mike. I feel like, see, this is why we're, we're not able to make any of this cash, Jamie. We're already off. We haven't figured anything out.
Starting point is 00:53:10 Did we make an NFT? I forget if we made an NFT. I don't know. Where do you do that? I don't know. Is there like a fan camp for NFTs? Let me see. No, there's not well i don't think we're going to be able to do that but you know we could do we could we could end this maybe mari can you think of a tape that somehow just give you an idea of what we already played.
Starting point is 00:53:46 We played, uh, this girl pusher tape, which has literally there's a dollar bill in there. So right now we're making cash to Chang. We thought about the gold standard, which made us think of gold timer records, which do you remember that tape label at all? Yeah,
Starting point is 00:54:00 I do. Holy shit. I haven't thought about gold timer in forever. This is a Christopher Merritt, uh, split with sound. Oh yeah. thought about Goldtimer in forever. This is a Christopher Merritt split with Sound Out Light. Oh, yeah. Christopher Merritt's great, too. He has an orange milk thing as well. Not only great, but we did the math, and he's more expensive than Sound Out Light. He's worth more, so we played that split. And then we thought about canceling rent, and we came up with a tape on no rent records, the Darksmith of California tape,
Starting point is 00:54:29 which, Jamie, you were saying how this was no rent number one? Yeah, this is the first one. You know what happened is, I believe not. You know what happened? I think they just rebooted their catalog numbering system. Oh, right. They only got to like 10, and then it went back? I think they were NRR numbered, and then they just started over no rend spelled out i there's no i can't think of any
Starting point is 00:54:51 other time it's been done wow are the numbers but um yeah you're right because they've been out they've been around for years and that's a pretty recent tape that's what i said all the 22 i think you're right i think they rebooted in 2020. Is that legal to reboot your catalog numbers? I don't, I don't see how it possibly could be. Wow. Are the numbers screwed up?
Starting point is 00:55:15 Mari, is there any tape that you can think of that would, that you, that I might have an artist, a label? What do you think? Don't say one of your tapes. We're going to play some of your tapes. I'm not that. I'm trying to think of
Starting point is 00:55:31 what... What Lee Noble tapes do you have? That's a good question. You know that Mike has a computer program that will all about why i look yeah i can tell them exactly what shelf it's on i'm in kind of a lawnmower man situation with my tapes
Starting point is 00:55:54 and i'm like computer access lee noble and i'm like just like flying through the circuits it is going to take me a second what lenoble tape and why are we going to be able to make cash off this is it so is it a stock is it a block earlier this earlier this week i ordered a perfume from lenoble and received it and it was very very good so i think that lee's going to be really big in the perfume industry. And that's only going to make all of Lee's tapes skyrocket in value from that point forward. He's moved on to perfumes, huh? Oh, yeah, they're good. So he no Kings record, no Kings, that's no more. No Kings only perfumes. Is it called No Kings perfumes? No, I don't think it's called No Kings perfumes.
Starting point is 00:56:47 It should be. It should be. I mean, that would be like the reboot I've dreamed of. Well, here's the deal. Okay, here's what we're going to... Okay, I'll grab the Lee Noble tape. Okay. I'll grab one on No Kings.
Starting point is 00:56:59 Perfect. I think for that idea alone that I just gave, the No Kings perfume perfume company i think somebody needs to paypal me something something i'll paypal you something jamie that's insider trading jamie this is a setup it turns out this whole episode was a setup oh yeah yeah very elaborate all right well i'll play some lean what was uh tell us a little bit about the perfume it's great here I can actually
Starting point is 00:57:29 spray it at the screen hang on let me go get it really quick let me look up exactly what's in it but Lee sent me a sample of it and it was so good I wound up ordering an entire bottle and a sample of it and it was so good i wound up ordering an entire bottle breadsticks and uh
Starting point is 00:57:47 yeah uh i guess like they got into it from like doing it for an art installation piece and then i was just curious to try it and it totally fucking rules actually i have no information about what specifically second biff that's a second biff yeah oh what is it three three biffs and i i'm out i have to leave no we do 12 or 13 12 or 13 i i don't know specifically what's in it but it's like it's super great it's more kind of earthy smelling than than flowery or floral or like particularly sweet um you want to just like look up the ingredients for red bull and just read that yeah i you know honestly it reminds me of drinking a red bull it's about the same effect so uh sorry lee um i will say that the perfume was really immaculately packaged uh and it came with it the whole thing was like sealed
Starting point is 00:58:55 with like rubber on top of it and there were instructions on how to cut the rubber off and then it came with there was no like spray it just had like a little cork and came with a bat charm and then like what looked like kind of like a dog tag and a tiny little like dropper to drop it um but like just a metal one so you just like stick it in and like rub it on yourself uh but yeah the packaging of the perfume was really really great it sounds exquisite and very much in line with all the tape packaging for those no kings tapes yeah right now jamie is that blockchain it sounds pretty are you saying there's no kings a blockchain everything now the whole perfume thing with all the stuff,
Starting point is 00:59:45 is that a blockchain? I don't think so. I'm never going to give it. It's not digital. Yeah. It's got to be a digital asset. It's a digital download code. So would that make it a blockchain?
Starting point is 00:59:56 Wait, did you say it came with a download code? Oh, no, not the perfume, but tapes. Here's another idea. Here's another idea. Perfume that comes with download codes. I would, yeah. I like that. My heart pivots. I think we have, I think,
Starting point is 01:00:11 I don't think there's anything we can do but end this episode after that idea because it's only going to go downhill from there. Mari, thanks again so much for hanging out for a little bit. Hey, thanks so much for having me. little bit hey thanks so much for having me we're not depressed we're on strike For those who refuse To manage at all A creature among creatures
Starting point is 01:01:02 Who bless in a world of flesh A sidestep, a sidestep Moving away from the rest A cop in a hospital bed Saying he's the fifth A cop in a hospital bed Saying he's the victim The police and the army Moving parallel in boxed dead
Starting point is 01:01:45 To the north of town Towards us We are building A world we need A world that's trapped over Other ways to be I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I really wasn't before I miss you, I miss you, please I can't do it anymore I am what I am what I am, what I am Too tired to explain
