Starting point is 00:00:35 I played the goddamn tape. Play the goddamn tape. Lordy, I hope there are tapes. Tabs out. Tabs out. Cassette Podcast. Episode number... 112.
Starting point is 00:00:44 112. 112. Yeah. Mike, Dave, episode number 112. 112. Yeah. Mike, Dave, and Jamie back. This is becoming a classic lineup. Jamie Orlando, you were here last time. Yeah, I feel kind of wrong. It feels wrong to me. And now you're here this time.
Starting point is 00:00:57 It feels so right. How many times have you been here now? Three. Three? Three. You have been. I appreciate that. Dave, dave how you doing tonight i'm doing very well and i'm like of course you you've made eye contact with me all night big guy come on what are you talking how you doing is something wrong as in like the last 15 seconds i've made
Starting point is 00:01:17 eye contact with you is something wrong you okay are you just fragging over there oh no i'm just getting everything getting everything fine-tuned. Okay, good. It's weird because when you were like, all right, let's start. And I was like, don't you want to check anything? You're like, nope. And then it just started. Now you're fine-tuning? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:32 That's how I do it. I do it as we go. Yeah, I can see the reflection. I can see all the charts and graphs and meters on the reflection of your glasses. You're a busy guy. I keep it moving. You guys hack? You ever hack?
Starting point is 00:01:44 I do all kinds of life hacks. It's a little recreational. What's your favorite life hack, Dave? Spoon. Spoon. I like kicking people out of AOL chat rooms is my favorite one. Oh, you know what I used to do in AOL? What's the thing when it scrolls up the... What's that called, JB?
Starting point is 00:02:02 Mail bomb or... Slow down, hold on there. I forget. No no mail bomb is when you send a ton of emails yeah what do you fill up their mailbox or something yeah you weren't getting gmail limits back then you could get like a hundred emails and the box was done that wasn't that was uh you know what didn't happen back then though what's that hillary oh yeah you didn't have to worry about that because i'm not going into it dave let's start off this episode of tabs out it's a cassette podcast for those who have never
Starting point is 00:02:33 listened before you're tuning in you figure it oh i'm gonna check out a new podcast oh here's one on the 112th episode i'm gonna check that out this is a podcast we're gonna play some cassettes tapes tapes i don't know why it says that. So. Cassettes. Do you want to start it off, Dave? Do you want to play the first tape? Sure.
Starting point is 00:02:49 And we'll do a little triple banger. Yeah. You. Let's do that. Me. Three. Jamie. PP.
Starting point is 00:02:55 And then we'll. Yeah, let's do that. What do you got, Davey boy? I got a special one. Ooh. Jamie, act excited. Yeah, but it's special. Also, don't talk into that part of the microphone. Talk into this part straight down third time you've been here get it right or you will not be invited
Starting point is 00:03:09 back okay all right dave what do you want to play what's special tape so we got a uh package in the mailbag a couple episodes back from ota yes with this lace bows tape on it and a special envelope envelope addressed to me i remember that that. There was a note inside. Yeah. And no one could figure out what the fuck any of it meant. Yeah, it was, it took me a little while
Starting point is 00:03:30 to get, you know, to understand the handwriting. To get your bearings. Yeah, and get my bearings and stuff. And then, so I figured out, so Pedro said that
Starting point is 00:03:40 back on who runs OTA. Yes. He said back on episode four, we played a lace post tape. Episode four? back on episode four we played a Lace Post tape. Episode four? Yeah, episode four. Jesus Christ. An archivist over here.
Starting point is 00:03:51 Yeah. Paul on Futures from Hooker Vision. He must have found that on an old PC he bought at a Goodwill. It came with episode four on it. Came with Mind Pooper, Solitaire, and episode four of Tabs Out. So he reached out to the person that does lace bows,
Starting point is 00:04:07 Joanna Francisco, who hadn't done anything since like 2013. Okay. And heard back and asked them to do a tape. And they agreed. Sent some stuff over. Really? Yeah, yeah. That's pretty cool.
Starting point is 00:04:19 So he sent us some copies of it. Bringing people together. That's when I started this podcast. It was just a tin can with a string tied to it, and I would walk around town and hand other people the other ends. I didn't think I would touch lives the way I'm touching them,
Starting point is 00:04:36 but it might get exciting at times. Let me see this tape. Let me ask you this. Has Lacebows done anything else besides this, this recently? Yeah, they've done a lot of stuff, but after 2013, they kind of stopped then. I think that Pollen Futures tape
Starting point is 00:04:57 was one of the last ones that they did that came out in 2012. And then they did maybe one tape in 2013. What is going on with this cover here? I like this a lot. This is like, is this like construction paper that's like glued to another piece of paper
Starting point is 00:05:15 and then there's like worms smashed on it? I don't know, but I think all the covers are unique. Yeah, it's very textured on the front. Yeah. It's like a topographical J card. That's OTA's jam. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:30 Like the handmade J cards where they're all just a little bit different. Yes. Some of them are so different you can't even tell. Some of them are so different that you can't tell that they're different? Some of them are so not different. Wait a minute. Some of them are so similar that you can't tell that they're different. Time is a flat
Starting point is 00:05:47 circle. That's their jam and I like it a lot. This one looks really fucking tight. It's like a white piece of paper, but then there's blue paper pasted to the top of it and then ripped off in some parts exposing print on the white
Starting point is 00:06:03 paper. I'm going. I like it. I like the way it looks. OTA number 16 Lace Bows for the Tunnels. So is this an old tape? Sorry, I might not have been paying attention. Is this older? Well, he just put it out, but I think it's older
Starting point is 00:06:19 material. Because it's only 16. That's a pretty low number. You guys played them on episode four so they're uh what are you talking about we didn't play ota on episode four we played lace bows on episode four are you even fucking listening to dave's story dave comes here with a special tape and this is how you treat them all right so we'll start off with that lace bows table on ota which i'm very excited about and then then I'll go. Very happy. It's a good time. You just don't hurt anybody.
Starting point is 00:06:48 I'm wondering what I want to go into. You know what? I think... I don't know how to say this. Gotcha. Preoccupado. Characters of a calendar. A tape that just came out on
Starting point is 00:07:03 Lighten Up Sounds. Lighten Up Sounds is another label we played early on yeah and then um i don't think minnesota label right is it minnesota um let's just say yes and then if we're wrong or is it milwaukee um i don't know i don't know but um i love this i love the cover looks like um what does that look like some kind of book like a uh like if there was like a sci-fi monthly like a sci-fi magazine with short stories in it yeah and you got it every month like that's what the cover would look like this like square on top with a circle with an image you can't quite make out it's like a eagle's talon or something yeah oh yeah i see it now it is an eagle's talon damn jamie so like it's weird an image you can't quite make out. It's like an eagle's talon or something. Oh, yeah, I see it now.
Starting point is 00:07:45 It is an eagle's talon. Damn, Jamie. So it's weird that sometimes you can pay no attention but then that much attention. Oh, yeah. You're like, your attention meter is very impressive. They stay busy, man. They're always putting stuff out.
Starting point is 00:07:59 Light up sounds? Yeah. Yeah, but I like this color scheme, too. This is tight. And this tape, I was listening to it today and I enjoy it. I don't really know too much about this person. It's people actually.
Starting point is 00:08:12 It's a duo of Andy Neubauer who was in Impractical Cockpit if anyone remembers them. No? No. Sorry guys. And Marlunk. Marlunk?
Starting point is 00:08:25 Marlunk. Maybe it's Marklunk. What do you think it is? You think it's Mar and I spelled it right or Mark and I forgot the K? I think it's probably Marklunk. Maybe it's Marklun and I put the K at the end of lung instead of Mark.
Starting point is 00:08:40 This is Light Up Sounds number 110. Came out in an edition of 30. And then what are you going to play, Jamie Orlando? I got this tape from Jesse DeRosa, who goes by Shingles. Yes, big tapes. This is in his Guantanamo Patch Base series, the most recent of
Starting point is 00:08:57 which is number 5. And it is really good. Let me see it. Yeah, he did was this the thing when he was doing like a tape every month or something? Or no? No, that was a different thing. That was a different thing. I think, yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:11 But he recently just put out a series of lathes. And it's very, how do I describe it? Sexual. It's very like keyboard. Like, you know, when you hit the demo button on your keyboard, it sort of has that vibe to it. Jamie, you're asking the pro of hitting the demo button on the keyboard. Yes, that of the guy.
Starting point is 00:09:32 Oh, yeah. Yeah, you said he just put out like a batch of lathes. He started a lathe label called Not Quite Archaic. I didn't get any of them, though. Did you guys get any of those lathes? Yeah, I got three. Which ones did you get? I got a five-inch shinglesles a grasshopper seven inch and i believe a shingle seven inch
Starting point is 00:09:50 tight they're all great yeah um i wonder if he knows like this is a clear tape with like a green liner but he's colorblind do you think he you think he knows that and then there's the yellow naruko i wonder if he even knows this. Very nice colors, though. It's very nice. Does he pick those out himself? Or does he have a guy? Oh, you mean like they're so, like it looks so good
Starting point is 00:10:12 that it must have been picked out by someone else. Maybe he's got a consultant or he's a he. By someone that can see colors. Yeah, he's got a guy who goes up and he's like, listen, I don't know what the Boston Celtics look like,
Starting point is 00:10:23 but I can tell by the vibrations of their uniforms that I like that color scheme. And the guy's like, all right, they're yellow and green, right? Yellow and green, yeah. Or are they white and green? I think it's yellow and green. I haven't watched since Dee Brown. All right, let's get into this. Let's start this out.
Starting point is 00:10:35 Lace bows, tape on OTA. That was a Prey Ocupado characters of a calendar on Lighten Up Sounds go into something off this shingles tape. Guantanamo Patch Bay. That's really funny. Gets me every time. Number five, At Home With Machines. All right.
Starting point is 00:10:55 You want to go on an adventure? Should we do this? Let's do it. Let's get right into it. it © BF-WATCH TV 2021 Thank you. What's going on, Dave? You working on the kinks? You don't have to.
Starting point is 00:29:15 Every time that that happens, it'll be fixed. Explain it to me. You don't have to mention it. So every time it happens, and I noticed because I've heard an episode where I say it. I heard several like it. And you don't hear what I hear. Right but every time i do it just in case because you never know that's going to be the time you never know and i don't look stupid okay i don't want my listeners to think i'm stupid so i've got a dummy that shingles tape oh my god i love it i can just
Starting point is 00:29:41 i can just envision him making it. What do you think his neighbors think about him? It's like a nice neighborhood. It looks like a respectable neighborhood. I think they have no idea what goes on behind those walls. Probably just like stinks of weed and there's always some sort of synth going out the window. I hope there's a bus stop right in front of his house. He's just like recording over some cheesecake album.
Starting point is 00:30:10 It's like a new project. Don't record over cheesecake. I love cheesecake. What was before that? Let me grab it here. Here, Jamie, say all the rest of the stuff. We had Preoccupado before that. And then before that, we had Lace Bows.
Starting point is 00:30:22 Oh, nice, nice, nice. All great stuff. I heard some bagpipes in that first one. Bagpipes. Bagpipes.. I heard some bagpipes in that first one. Bagpipes. Bagpipes. I always enjoy some bagpipes. How do you play the bagpipes? The bangpipes? How do you...
Starting point is 00:30:32 Well, Dave, you play the bangpipes, right? Yeah. And that's different. What is a bangpipe? A bangpipe? It's a stringed instrument. Oh, is it? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:40 That's weird. They're really thick strings. They're so thick that people think they're pipes. That's actually their slang name. I normally pour sugar on that shit. They're called bangpipes as're so thick that people think they're pipes. That's actually their slang name. They're called bang pipes as a slang. How do you play a bagpipe? Do you do something with the bag? You put air in it.
Starting point is 00:30:52 You can put anything in it. What do you like to put in a bagpipe, Dave? Oatmeal. I like that. Fill it with oatmeal and then I squeeze it. Then what happens? Then beautiful music happens. All right.
Starting point is 00:31:09 Should I start this next round? Put raisins in there if I'm feeling real crazy. What kind of oatmeal do you like the best? Steel cut. Steel cut. Slow cooked steel cut. What do you put in it? Do you put anything in it or does it just go raw?
Starting point is 00:31:22 You just do it. Flavor it however you want to flavor it. Look how angry he looks. Are you mad right now? No, no, no. I'm getting really into it. Have you put anything in it? Or do you just go raw? Well, you just do it. Like, flavor it however you want to flavor it. Look how angry he looks. Are you mad right now? Oh, no, no. I'm getting really into it. Have you guys ever had steel-cut oatmeal? I have.
Starting point is 00:31:30 Who cares what you cut it with? As long as it's cut, I'm good. Who cares what you cut it with? Jamie, when you were a child, were you a poster kid for, like, steel-cut oats? It's you with the fork. Who cares what you cut it with? I like putting honey raisins
Starting point is 00:31:49 and walnuts. If you cook it overnight, put it in a slow cooker overnight, it's incredible how much of a difference it makes. It's like the creamiest, most delicious oatmeal you'll ever have. If Joe B. was here, he'd find a way to talk about how most cinnamon is not cinnamon.
Starting point is 00:32:09 We get it. Maybe it would go there, but first he would say how he doesn't like oatmeal yeah i think he would texture's weird no because well yeah he would say that no you're right i would say the texture overrides he doesn't like a lot of he likes a lot of little things and oatmeal essentially is a lot of little things i don't like that they're flat there would be something weird like yeah it's that they're flat. There would be something weird like that. Yeah, yeah, it's that they're flat. Now that you mentioned, I don't like that they're flat either. All right, let's start the next round. I should get the steel cut. Let's start the next round.
Starting point is 00:32:34 Those aren't flat. And it doesn't matter what you cut them with. I'm going to start off the next round with, there's a new label here. Let's see what they're called. Something additions. I forgot what the wording is exactly. I don't want to fuck it up. Muzan Editions.
Starting point is 00:32:48 Muzan Editions. M-U-Z-A-N Editions. Muzan. Muzan. Muzan Editions. Just put out three tapes. Quit Muzan me. Quit Muzan Dave.
Starting point is 00:32:58 Let's see what the tapes are. A tape by Florian Von. We're Muzan them. M-O-Z-A-N. We're Muzan listeners. And Higira Moya. And then this tape by Andreas Brandl. Not a stranger to the show. Dave, you put out
Starting point is 00:33:11 an Andreas Brandl tape on 2AM. Yeah, I did. Didn't you? On 2AM? No. I used to put tapes out on my own label. So on 905, I did a tape or two for Andreas Brandl. Yeah. Mike Nigro also, I think. Yep.
Starting point is 00:33:27 Yeah, you're right. Yeah. He's been doing stuff for quite a while. For quite a bit of time, a number of days. And he's got several different projects, too. I did a Flesh Coffin tape for him. Yes. That's still one of my favorite tapes that I ever...
Starting point is 00:33:43 That's his project? Yeah, that's his project. The one side just sounds like somebody's dumping an endless supply of metal studs. Yes. That's still one of my favorite tapes that I ever... That's his project? Yeah, that's his project. The one side just sounds like somebody's dumping an endless supply of metal studs into a big concrete tunnel. That's awesome. Like really good-looking guys that listen to heavy metal. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:33:57 That's pretty cool. But yeah, they just put out these three tapes. This is the second one. The artwork, I wish... Oh, I do have the other ones up here. Jamie, grab the other two out of there. The spines look like this. Kind of like craft-colored paper.
Starting point is 00:34:11 And then they have black printing on them. And really heady fucking design work here. Oh, those are beautiful. They're really nice, aren't they? Wow, let me see that. Two of them have these shapes on them that have a cross-stitch pattern on them to really make them look blurry.
Starting point is 00:34:26 Fuck with your eyes. The Anders Brandl tape is mostly just blocked out in black. It's bigger than a postage stamp. What size is this? That's like a 2x2 inch square with flowers printed in it or something like that. Edition of 25.
Starting point is 00:34:41 He has small editions. Stupid small editions. Do all the shells have this little small editions yeah do all the shells have this like little vinyl piece of tape with the art on it or artist on it uh they do but they're not
Starting point is 00:34:50 all the same size or color this one's beautiful look at this it's like metallic that's gorgeous I like it I like it a lot this is fucking
Starting point is 00:34:56 I'm really excited about this label what they see what they do but uh yeah like like uh Jamie said stupid small editions
Starting point is 00:35:03 I didn't that was your words not mine but I'm saying you brought up I was only 25 I said it was small additions. That was your words, not mine. But I'm saying you brought up how it was only 25. I said it was small. I didn't say it was stupid. I thought that was a little mean. No, I don't.
Starting point is 00:35:11 I'm sorry. I should be nice. I'm sorry. I should be nice. No, but seriously, for as I think, when I say stupid small, I'm not talking about stupid like Dave. No. Okay, it's not like dumb.
Starting point is 00:35:24 It's like an exaggeration not like dumb it's like it's like it's an exaggeration it's like an exaggeration on how small it is it's stupid small it's very small it's way too small but yeah the label's from Japan Andre Spano's from Norway
Starting point is 00:35:42 the tape's called The Work of the Spider that's scary way too scary I feel like the last tape I played where are the tapes? what was the name of the last tape I played? Characters of a Calendar
Starting point is 00:35:59 and The Work of a Spider come on Dave you're not a doctor leave your opinions to yourself and the work of a spider. Come on, Dave. You're not a doctor. Leave your opinions to yourself. Come on, this is too scary. I don't like this. Really scary.
Starting point is 00:36:19 Really scary. Really scary. Pretty funny. Pretty interesting. Pretty interesting. Pretty interesting. This is really, really scary and difficult. All right, then, Jamie, after I play that, that Andres Brandl tape, The Work of the Spider,
Starting point is 00:36:34 what are you going to play? Let me finish my sentence. Jesus Christ. What are you going to play? I have it together. Now go. Now talk. Now say what you're going to play. Let us all know.
Starting point is 00:36:43 I have a tape by Plake64 and the Hexagrams. Ah, a friend of the show, Alex Homan. Alex Homan, Delaware native, Baltimore resident. Delaware resident, we call him sometimes. Donnie? We never call him Donnie. I believe he's put out a few tapes before with the moniker Plake.
Starting point is 00:37:00 So this is a project. I think it's a trio, sometimes a duo. But they went on tour recently. They've stopped by in Delaware, played 1984. I think it's a trio, sometimes a duo. But they went on tour recently. They've stopped by in Delaware, played 1984. I think we all played that show. That sounds about right. So the trio, who's the trio on this? I actually don't know who, what, what.
Starting point is 00:37:15 I remember one of the guys' names was William, but I don't know the last name. The Hexagrams. The Hexagrams. Yeah, like the serious. Serious. Serial. Like, okay.
Starting point is 00:37:24 Serial. Crispy Hexagrams. Like a serious serious cereal like okay okay crispy hexagrams like that podcast cereal so um what's it called spring clanging yeah i have it written down here that's really good it's good it's on a new um it's on a new label out of baltimore called 2020 records and tapes um they only have about a handful of releases so far. This one's number eight. And it looks like they have cassettes and vinyl records. I was looking at this label on the internet today. I see they put out a seven-inch by a band called Post Pink. I just saw that band over the weekend.
Starting point is 00:37:56 I crashed at somebody in that band's house. Okay. What else happened that weekend? I got a concussion. I don't want to talk about it. All right. So what is it? Plague 64 and the Hexagram.
Starting point is 00:38:08 Sprang clang. Sprang clang. Sprang clang. It's just so Alex. I just want to point out that you were doing a good job with the tapes you played so far having funny titles. Okay. Guantanamo Patch Bay, Sprang Clang. Very funny.
Starting point is 00:38:20 It's all downhill from here. Oh, you hate to hear that. Yeah. Very funny. You learned some skills, though. I learned some skills. It's very nice. I like it.
Starting point is 00:38:27 All right, Davey boy. And then what are you going to cook up? Oh, I think I'll do this dopaso tape that came out on Hasu Mountain. Hasu Mountain? Hasu Mountain number 62. Is that a funny number? That's a big masonic number. 62.
Starting point is 00:38:44 Are they up to, you know what? Are they up to that yet? What number? That's a big masonic number. 62. Are they up to, um... You know what? Are they up to that yet? What number? What? You know which one I'm talking about. I don't get it. What are you talking about?
Starting point is 00:38:51 Come on. What? You do it even if I just say that, huh? Welcome to reality. Here we go. Join the fucking... Join the fucking drum circle. It's the name of the tape.
Starting point is 00:39:06 It's a C42. Tape title. I like that. Du Paso. Is that the name? Because it's like so angry. And drum circles are like, you know, they're like very hippie, dippy. And this person's like, I'm going to join the fucking drum circle.
Starting point is 00:39:21 Get in here, you fucking asshole. You fucking asshole. Joshua. Get in here. Joshua. Join the fucking drum circle. I bet here, you fucking asshole. You fucking asshole. Joshua. Get in here. Joshua. Join the fucking drum circle. I bet it's a dad talking to his kids. Pick up the goddamn bongo, Josh.
Starting point is 00:39:32 Pick up the bongo. It's a djembe. Pick up the goddamn bongo. It's a djembe. No, you know what it is? Josh begged his dad to drive him to the drum circle all day. Finally, he was like, get in the Nissan. We'll go to the drum circle.
Starting point is 00:39:43 I forgot my fucking devil stick. And then when he gets there, the dadissan we'll go to the drum circle fucking devil and then when he gets there the dad doesn't want to go to the drum circle the kids bugging him take me to the drum circle they finally get there and then he doesn't want to do it and the dad's like we came all the way out here to this fucking park get in the goddamn drum circle um dupe dupe so is like uh what's that to do something with square dancing right i think so yeah i gotta say jamie you strike me as a man who has square dance before yeah you have it's do-si-do oh what did i say do-pa-so oh there's a do-pa-so is also a square dancing thing too what is the name of this

Yeah, yours were more like machines and mechanical and like systems of things. Puke and toes. Like something would puke onto a toe and the toe would kick it off into like a colander

You were. Digging for diamonds. I spent like an hour digging for diamonds. Yeah, I was like, put it on creative mode.
Starting point is 01:02:47 Go build a ladder to the sky and then drop cows off of it. Or you know what I used to do? I used to go all the way up, real high, right? Make a platform and fill it with animals and I'd go down and then it would all start dropping and turn into meat. But you'd be like...
Starting point is 01:03:02 I made a 100 by 100 glass pyramid and I crafted every glass block. What? All right, man. I don't know why. There's no other call. It's satisfying when you're done. In a courtesy turn.

Do you guys have any tapes out or anything? We did a self-release one in 2014, and then we did one
Starting point is 01:04:17 on Tabs Out. I just think it would be pretty interesting. And they're very different from each other. But I think we're going to try to do something coming up pretty soon. I totally forgot about the Time's Out tape. I remember now. It's all coming back to me. Put it in the crock pot. Alright, now you've played two tapes, we already
Starting point is 01:04:34 said. Very funny. No, Dave, two. No. Two. Three. No. But I'm right 80% of the time. They both had funny titles. Please, Jamie, for the love of all that's good, please don't let me down.
Starting point is 01:04:50 Give me one with a good title. What do you got? Work really hard on this one, big guy. I'm through for me, big guy. Come on. Ready to laugh? I got machine listener. Okay. Nocturnal people. Get it?
Starting point is 01:05:07 These are all the twins. Nocturnal people get it these are all the quints nocturnal people that's not funny at all all right let's so uh this is uh matthew gallagher oh is it our interview dave i think you getting ready for that um when's that coming up march right when's that coming up yeah it's right? When's that coming up? Yeah, it's coming up. Machine Listener. Is that what you said? Yeah, our good friend, Matthew Gallagher. Do you think he's related to Gallagher? I was just going to say, are you talking about Gallagher the comedian?
Starting point is 01:05:36 There's Gallagher, there's Gallagher 2. Gallagher 1 or 2? There's Gallagher, Gallagher 2. It's a very rare name. Wait, are you... When you say Gallagher 1, when Gallagher 2 came out, you started calling the original Gallagher, Gallagher 1? Yeah, so people don't you say Gallagher 1, when Gallagher 2 came out, you started calling the original Gallagher Gallagher 1? Yeah, so people don't ask. Gallagher, original flavor. There's Gallagher, Gallagher 2, and Matthew Gallagher.
Starting point is 01:05:53 Gallagher Jr.? Dr. Gallagher. Dr. Gallagher. Gallagher's Quest. Gallagher's Travels. I love Gallagher's Travels. This guy is from Cleveland, correct? Or from that area? Gallagher's Travels I love Gallagher's Travels this guy is from Cleveland correct
Starting point is 01:06:08 or from that area does he like redo hardwood floors or something he's a working man I feel like he posts pictures of hardwood floors that he redoes he's like an amazing artist he does all kinds of stuff they redid the floors next door it smelled like turpentine in here for about a month
Starting point is 01:06:24 that was pretty bad. I think Dave came over and threw up. It was awful. It was really bad. True story. True stories. Yeah, it smelled really bad. Somebody bought that house, by the way. Slow down! Somebody's moving in there. What's his name selling it?
Starting point is 01:06:39 Kevin Malloy. 907? No, 903. No, 907. You're right. 907. I'm really worried that No, 907. You're right, 907. I'm really worried that they're going to take all the bandwidth from my internet. I'm really worried about that. One moment. Machine Lister, Nocturnal People, and Hollow Eyes. We played a few tapes on Hollow Eyes. Look at the paper that this J-Card's made out of.
Starting point is 01:06:56 We talked about this before, man. It glistens in the sun. I found one interesting thing here. Yeah, we talked about that before. It's beautiful paper. It's like a congenitally sound I think uses paper about that before. It's beautiful paper. It's like a contritic sound, I think, uses paper like this sometimes. That's a sparkle. I thought they just spray painted it.
Starting point is 01:07:13 I think they do that end. They use that as well? Yeah, it's not glittery. It glistens, though. Glistening. Yeah. It's beautiful. And I think all the tapes on this label have texture prints of textures on the cover.
Starting point is 01:07:27 They're tight, man. This is a cool tape. It's Gene Simmons' boots. It's a little bit droney and then a little bit industrial. You're not a doctor. Leave your opinions to yourself. And then what are you going to play, Dave? What do you got?
Starting point is 01:07:43 That's a good question. I haven't thought about it. Thanks. I guess I'll play this 333. What the hell, Mikey? This 333 tape. $3.33. Newish one that came out on Nominal Loom. Yes.
Starting point is 01:07:55 I remember this one. Dude, do you remember? We played a 333 tape. $3.33. I don't know how they prefer it said. Let's let Jamie decide. Jamie, give him the tape and let him decide. He'll be the one that, you know, he'll bring us into it.
Starting point is 01:08:07 Uh, dollar sign three decimal three three. That's a big masonic number. I'm not saying all that. You have no respect for yourself or other people. $3,033. Tape's called Drill, nominal loom number 27. Correct? Yes.
Starting point is 01:08:23 What are these? Who are these people in the front here? Interpretive dancers? I don't get dancing and art, right? I don't get these people in the front here? Interpretive dancers? I don't get dancing and art, right? I don't get what? What about do-si-do? Do-paso. Who are you?
Starting point is 01:08:33 Your miserable presumptuous no-talent. You're no artist. An artist respects the silence that serves as the foundation of creativity. You obviously don't have the talent. You don't have enough respect for yourself or other people. Learn what it is to respect yourself is that the trumpet thing
Starting point is 01:08:46 it sounds so much better sped up like that oh my play it again i'll play the whole thing play the whole thing again i got time You oppose your right to tell the truth on anybody around you what they want to do or not. Get out! How dare you come down here and do this? I'm here 14 years. I'm looking at this time. I hope you're a disgrace. You suck. How dare you? I'm three blocks down.
Starting point is 01:09:16 Who the hell do you think you are? Who the hell do you think you are? You any kind of artist? Anybody know who you are? Maybe everybody else wants to enjoy the peace and quiet. This is one of the most important places in all of North America. Who are you? Who are you?
Starting point is 01:09:31 He's like a retro god in my mind. Holy shit. What were you saying? We played 333 before. Do you know who it is? Do you know anything about 333? Well, this particular tape was part of an art installation called Drill, where it was like this choreographed dance thing that happened.
Starting point is 01:09:58 I had it pulled up here, but then I started playing with the computer. Oh, what are you playing? Minecraft. Yeah, making some... So let's go on this adventure together. I love when I look up 333 drill. I build pretty good computers. 3.3 millimeter drill bits.
Starting point is 01:10:14 Oh, get some. Will you get me some, by the way? I need some of those. I'm trying to find it on Normal Moon. I don't know. Here we go. Here we go. I can tell you a little bit about it
Starting point is 01:10:24 for all you lazy people that don't know how to use the internet. It's pretty funny. Pretty interesting. Very imaginative. Very creative. So, anyway. You going to tell me something? Look on the spine. I think it's on the spine. It tells you. It tells me what? It tells me good radio.
Starting point is 01:10:39 It doesn't say it? Oh, there's a lot of... Here, I'll hand it to Jamie. Jamie, read that. Come on, man. Get with it. Drill was's a lot of... Here, I'll hand it to Jamie. Jamie, read that. Come on, man. Get with it. Go. Drill was originally a durational performance and installation
Starting point is 01:10:49 at Signal Gallery New York by the artist and choreographer Madeline Hollander featuring two to seven dancers and a rehearsal score by Celia Hollander. This audio is a studio recording
Starting point is 01:10:57 and adaptive version from a three-hour live score. You suck! You're a no-talent! You really are a talent! Go practice! And to get to something big instead of ruining the end of the day for everybody down here! You disgrace! You're no talent! If you really are talented, go practice! Go practice.
Starting point is 01:11:05 Instead of ruining the end of the day for everybody down here! You disgrace! You're everything that's gone wrong in this world! You're self-consumed, no talent, mediocre piece of shit! I've earned my right to say it! Okay? Jesus Christ. If you just practiced, Borea, she wouldn't have a problem.
Starting point is 01:11:21 If anyone wants to donate money to TabsOut, you can go to TabsOut.com and send us some money. We'll continue to do all this. This isn't free. We do this for free, but... It costs us money to do this. Pay down what you think is fair so we can keep doing this. It costs a lot of money.
Starting point is 01:11:35 I can't think of any better way to spend your money. There's people on the cover of this with duct tape bags on their head, standing on one foot, doing some kind of choreographed dance number. It's like a Mylar balloon on their head, standing on one foot, doing some kind of choreographed dance number. Okay. It's like a Mylar balloon on their head or something. Remember Balloon Boy?
Starting point is 01:11:50 Is this Balloon Boy related? Balloon Boy. It might be Balloon Boy related. You know where I was when I saw Balloon Boy? Right there, because I used to have a TV right there. Okay. And a desk right here with Adele on it. Adele?
Starting point is 01:12:04 Yeah, Adele used to come to hang out. I'm going to follow that up with this Oil Thief tape. Stratagem on chondritic sound. Chondritic sound number 336. And did John Pyle design this chondritic sound logo here? This new thing? It looks like something that he would do. What's that, like a fern?
Starting point is 01:12:22 Some kind of plant there? That looks like his shit, right? I didn't even realize there was a chondritic sound tape over there. It's very clean for a chondritic. It is. It came out. There was a B tape, which, Jamie, I think you grabbed out of there. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:35 Which also doesn't really look like the chondritic sound, like normal aesthetic. I have... Oh, here they are. Also in that batch were two tapes by Scant and Shredded Nerve, which are very much more of the chondritic sound canon.
Starting point is 01:12:55 When you look at these tapes, how's more the look that you would get from a normal chondritic sound? Who's your favorite oil thief, Jamie? If you're asking me I'm going with Chaney I'm a classic guy
Starting point is 01:13:07 Yeah Probably go with Sean Huckabee Hannity That was weird Yeah And I've earned my right to say it Okay?
Starting point is 01:13:19 I had 200,000 people in Bill Grant In 1975 I walked Bob Dylan up on stage. Who the fuck are you? I knew the Grateful Dead from 1966. Who the fuck are you? You nothing. You nothing.
Starting point is 01:13:34 You are nothing. And you will never be anything. Never. How dare you? How dare you? You miserable, mediocre nothing. Shame on you this is all humor guys a pip i think he calls him a pimp
Starting point is 01:14:01 i don't care about your little like horn lip it doesn't mean that you told me to go away. I miss that part every time I've watched that. And I watch that a lot. No! So he's the most sugary fella in the world. He's like the spokesperson for sugar. I love that guy. Where is he right now?
Starting point is 01:14:25 He's probably with Bob Dylan or something. No! What's this on the front? It kind of looks like a happy face with a little line going through it. I think it's like a hammer and sickle. I think that... Is that like Poseidon's logo?
Starting point is 01:14:43 No! A circle with a fish hook and a needle or something. Dave, please keep playing that no. No! Oh my god. Yes, please do it. Yes, please. No!
Starting point is 01:14:54 Oh, it's so scary. I've never been more scared. Oh, I found out today that because the tracks on this, either side is called, the side is Phobos, which is like a moon, right? Yeah. It's like a moon on like Mars or something. Phobos.
Starting point is 01:15:13 And then foibles is the other side. Email on Phobos. Foibles is the other side. So I Googled the word foibles. Foibles. And it sounds like, you know, you can like hear the pronunciation when you click the thing and it sounds like tina from bob's burgers say foible foible foible doesn't it foible that's a google hack i bet i'm the first person to figure out that that that foible that i think
Starting point is 01:15:38 that is the person who plays tina foible right fo? Foible. Season desist. After we get our... Dave, get your lawyer on that 2AM artwork. Oh my God! And then... Foible. Take care of that.

Starting point is 01:36:32 I don't know if they have like a band camp or... Darn it. What else is there? A store? SoundCloud or... No, what's like a thing where you can buy stuff? CD Baby. Etsy.
Starting point is 01:36:43 CD Baby, Etsy. What is one of the things, though, that people say they see? What is it? Something cartel. No, not big cartel. Big cartel. Is that what it is? I think so, yeah.
Starting point is 01:36:54 I don't like anything where you have to create an account. Just let me use PayPal. I don't want to have to create an account. I don't want the email. Stop ganging up on me. I just don't get the email stop ganging up on me like i don't understand i just don't get labels that have uh mailing lists it's like there's like there's already the facebook and the twitter and the instagram and now you're gonna email it too and don't like i don't think anyone
Starting point is 01:37:19 needs to write um how about we just all stop making music? There's enough. There's enough. There's enough. Look at this room. I also... What else don't I like? There's something else I didn't like. I don't have a high-dose shoe. I don't remember. I'm going to keep it positive because I'm a good boy now.
Starting point is 01:37:38 I used to do bad boy stuff. I used to do a lot of sugary stuff. Now I'm a good boy. All right, Davey boy. Oh, gosh. What is this going to be like? Slow down. It's the real voice.
Starting point is 01:37:55 Is that a scatman? It is pee pee. Sounds like it should be the Hey Dude theme song. This is really good slow down, actually. Can you play the trumpet guy on top of it? I can't play them both at the same time. They're on the same track. Technology doesn't exist, huh?
Starting point is 01:38:34 Farts are like extra wet. I like this. Put it in the crockpot. All right, that's enough. Put it in the crockpot's my only new one. I got that today. All right, you ready to close this up? You ready to close up shop?
Starting point is 01:38:48 You ready to put the old butter spread on the top of this thing? Throw it in the oven one last time? What's the thing that they caught the ghosts in in Ghostbusters? The Ecto... No, that's not it. Ecto Cooler. You know what? I remember the idea of Ecto Cooler, but I don't remember Ecto Cooler. What did it taste like? It was like a remember the idea of ecto cooler but I don't remember
Starting point is 01:39:05 ecto cooler what did it taste like it tasted like green like a Capri Sun kind of so it was like carbonated orange juice it was sips it was in a sips container but it was just
Starting point is 01:39:19 but it didn't it wasn't a new flavor it was just like they made another flavor green probably yeah I can't believe they didn't bring it back for the new one yeah It was just like they made another flavor green. Probably, yeah. I can't believe they didn't bring it back for the new one. Yeah, what the fuck? That would have been tight. So angry. I am.
Starting point is 01:39:32 I get very agitated about liquids. All right, I don't want to get into it. I get irritated or very mad very easily. Liquid agitated. I'm liquidy yet. The doctor says I have liquid agitation. All right, Jamie. Thanks for bringing that up.
Starting point is 01:39:49 And I don't have my pills because of Obamacare. So thanks for bringing that up. Pouring salt on the old wounds. He told me to do that. It's not helping. I've been doing it all week. Oh, my God. All right, Davey boy.
Starting point is 01:39:59 Let's wrap this up. Episode 112. Jamie, thanks for coming again, by the way. Yeah. Thanks for having me. Huge help. You did a good job podcasting. Everyone, I think they heard what you had to say
Starting point is 01:40:11 and they understood a majority of the words. Then you played tapes. Thank you. Which is exactly what I expected. Thanks for all the listeners, all the fan mail I've been getting. You want to read some of your fan mail? Go ahead.
Starting point is 01:40:25 Read your fan mail. Go ahead. I see you got your phone out. Go ahead. I got fan mail. Dear Jamie, thank you so much. You've been a great guest. It's been an honor to have you on the show.
Starting point is 01:40:36 You're so much better than Mike and Dave. What? Love all the Tabs Out listeners. All of them? Both of them said that, huh? Jesus Christ. Come on, guys. Come on.
Starting point is 01:40:49 Don't be so wacky. Come on. Funny story. All right, Davey boy. What are you going to play? What do you got? I'm going to play a little something off a Denzu Artifacts.
Starting point is 01:41:00 Just a little something. A micro cassette. Just a little something. This Fausik, Hanson, and Tellier Craig collaboration. Carl Fausik, Canadian dude. We played some stuff from him in the past.
Starting point is 01:41:16 French Canadian, right? The worst kind of Canadian, yeah. Roger Tellier Craig, do you remember that band? That was very hateful. Well, you got this fucking Pepe hat on all night. I don't know about that. Roger Teller Craig was in that
Starting point is 01:41:29 Constellation band, Fly Pan Am. Oh yeah, he was in Godspeed as well, right? I don't think so. I think he was. I went to a little site called Discogs, Dave. Maybe you heard of it. He was in Godspeed, huh? Yeah, I believe so, yes.
Starting point is 01:41:44 For all the albums, or just a guy that quit? The one that they make the memes out of, Maybe you heard of it. He's in Godspeed, huh? Yeah, I believe so, yes. For all the albums, or just a guy that quit? The one that they make the memes out of when the hand's holding a cat. He might either be on that one or not on that one. I don't know. He used to be in Godspeed. He's not anymore. No?
Starting point is 01:42:00 Was he in Godspeed when they played with Bardo Pond in Philadelphia? Gee. That's the only time I've ever seen him. I don't know. It was good, though. Yeah, I saw him with Black Dice. Oh, yeah? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:42:12 And Black Sabbath? That was the first noise show I ever saw in my mind. Well, Black Dice. Are you considering Black Dice to be noise, Dave? I might think of my noise lawyer on the phone. Yeah. Beaches and Canyons, Black Dice? That's definitely noise. Okay.
Starting point is 01:42:27 I'll allow it. Gerrymandering, Your Honor. I'll allow it. So what are you playing? Hand this to me. They did one of these. They did a triple-double together. I wish I wasn't holding so much stuff right now. You know what I would do? Three? Yeah, which is weird because that's Joe McKay's other label. He does
Starting point is 01:42:43 Dinto Artifacts and that label. So he did the first one or one of them. I don't know which one came first on spring break. And then the other one on his other label? Why not? Yeah, that's a good point, Dave. Why not? Wise worms.
Starting point is 01:42:56 You turned me around, good old boy. I'll take it. I'll allow it. I got a question. What's your question? I can answer anything. When you say three, do you just hit the three button? Three.
Starting point is 01:43:04 That's amazing. I didn't know. But I had three, do you just hit the three button? Three. That's amazing. But I have to hit it twice because if I don't stop it. Three healthy meals and snacks. I don't think I've ever heard the whole thing. Have you not seen my soundboard here? No. You should take a look at it. It's organized. It's color coded. What's up? Remember a few minutes ago
Starting point is 01:43:20 when I played a tape by... Yes, I do, Dave. Good callback. I'm glad you didn't think it's too late to do this and not do it. But Dave doesn't hit three. He's clicking the mouse. I have a question. How did neither of us think about that? We said three so many times.
Starting point is 01:43:40 The dollar sign. It threw us all off. It threw us off the scent. I hope someone was... I couldn't smell a thing. right um i like this tape is called no image in particular and the cover is just like a square that says no image in particular um which like i'm guessing somebody asked him like somebody probably asked like uh you know one of these canadians what do you want on the cover and they're like oh no oh, no, in particular. And Joe McKay thought it would be funny to do that. And I get it.
Starting point is 01:44:08 I've done weed before. I know when things can be funny. No, I'm joking. It's really cool. You haven't done weed before? I'm thinking about trying it, though. One time I took drugs! See, I'm really starting to learn the soundboard. Okay.
Starting point is 01:44:25 And then what? Am I going to play, Dave? Is that the deal? I think so. I think that's the contract. Oh, my God. Yes. It's a gentleman's contract.
Starting point is 01:44:34 Yes. Dave, we have a gentleman's contract. I get to play it. Yes. It's a late Saturday night. i'm gonna play this he's gonna do it again oh i'm gonna play this more ease articulate ridge numbers normally i pour sugar on that the ridge number 16 on personal archives more ease let me see here if i have the name of the person who does this project marcus marise i believe this is alder quince he he's done a lot of stuff i've loved everything
Starting point is 01:45:21 this guy has done so far. I'm just going to talk. No, keep it going, Dave. It's fine. Personal Archives. Give me that slow down again. I can talk over top of that. Not that slow. That's way too slow. Put some sugar in it. It's even slower now.
Starting point is 01:46:02 Personal Archives number 109. Look at that. There's a dancer on this cover too. Hold me close, a tiny dancer. Jamie, you're letting loose over there. Look at you all of a sudden. Oh, look at that. Open that up and look at that color shell.
Starting point is 01:46:18 It pops. Here's my new tape. Ooh, that's a nice foil. We had another good foil with the Guantanamo Patch Bay earlier today. This is a good foil as well. That is slow. That's very slow. Oh, my gosh. But, yeah, that's a dancer on the cover of that, right?
Starting point is 01:46:34 Yeah. Black and white cover. Maybe. Nice. Is that gold foil? Yeah, gold foil. Very nice. Play something off of the B side of this tape.
Starting point is 01:46:45 Excellent. Excellent. Yeah, and then, Jamie, you want to take... Dave, this is really good, man. What gear do you use on this? 48. Oh, yeah? Is that funny enough? That's one of the...
Starting point is 01:46:58 Yeah, you should know that. So I got a tape on this label Blue Tapes, and the tape itself is very blue. Look at that. It's quite blue. I believe all their tapes are blue. I believe it's a UK label. This artist is Sam Mullaney, and I don't see any other of his works on Discogs.
Starting point is 01:47:21 So maybe it's a new guy to the scene, but it's a really good one, and I think it'll kind of coast the show out very relaxing. Oh, yeah. Is the name of the tape... I have a question about blue tapes, and I never actually understood. Is the name of the tape Blue 24? It's just the catalog number spelled out Blue 24?
Starting point is 01:47:39 That sounds like a football player. Blue 24! Blue 24! You stand up for the anthem, guys. Come on. Yeah yeah it's the catalog number and the album title i'm kidding i'm joking um yeah i don't i don't think i don't i don't like that the uh what did you say uh you shouldn't joke about that no no you're a thin blue line guy right yeah i you got the um the maga hat on it's a serious question about that though like these guys that that like revere the flag so much,
Starting point is 01:48:07 isn't that kind of desecrating? They've sort of made their own bastardization of the American flag. Oh, yeah. Isn't that ironic? Don't you think? Yeah. They don't care about that.
Starting point is 01:48:18 It's just weird to me. They don't care about being hypocrites and stuff. It never seems to bother them. No, it doesn't bother them at all. Anyway, so on that note like when dave got here earlier today earlier tonight he brings up trump right away he's bringing up puerto rico and i'm like dave i want to take a break and then i just stopped talking and mike just went on for dave i said dave i want to take a break i don't want to talk about politics right now i just i I want to take a break. I don't want to talk about politics right now. I just need to take a break. And then we spent the next ten minutes just like
Starting point is 01:48:48 yelling at each other. What do you got, Dave? He's checking his phone. He's got something good. What do you got, Dave? My power went out the house. I just got a text from my wife. My wife. My wife.
Starting point is 01:49:06 You remember, Bora? All right, Sam Mulaney. Yeah, I don't like how the label does the... Now I miss it. Yeah, I know, right? Now I kind of want to... Very empty right now. I feel naked.
Starting point is 01:49:18 Why don't you just take off your clothes? Pop off those pants. You already feel naked. This is C-70. It's a long one. No! Yes, it is. No! pop off those pants and you already feel naked this is C70 it's a long one yeah um no yes no
