This is Kevin Greenspun, and you're listening to Tabs Out,
Glassboro, New Jersey's number one 90s cassette podcast station on the web.
All right, nailed it. I feel like I'm about to learn some stuff.
You're going to learn some stuff today.
PSA intro.
Drop some education on you.
How to properly buckle your safety belt.
Brought to you by...
Now I see what you're saying.
It's like the gradient in the background with the line on the bottom.
It's like Sector 5
seatbelt safety.
Tabs out. Episode number
13.
The unlucky one, boys. This close to Halloween?
I'm not feeling good about this.
You guys just want to call it 14?
Yeah, let's just call it 12 and a half.
Whoa!
That chair does go down?
It goes down.
Careful, Joe.
It goes down.
How do you say, is it Reen Hell or Renee Hell?
I thought it was Renee Hell.
I think it might be Renee Hell.
I've never heard...
It's Reenie.
Reenie?
Or Hell.
Someone who actually knows. It's Rini. Rini? R or L? Someone who, like, actually knows.
It's Rini Heal.
It's on L?
It's Heal?
Yeah.
Okay.
That makes sense.
The second...
The first L is pronounced...
There's an E.
There's an umlaut inside of it.
Inside of it?
Yeah.
There's a tilde underneath of it.
And there's, like... If you put a bomb, like, from Zelda next to it, a doorway explodes.
Ooh, and then there's, like, a little shop where you can buy, like, a dagger or a...
Yeah, I was specifically talking about the ones inside of the, like, the main levels.
Like, so you'd go to a different room.
Ooh, okay.
Oh, even though I guess, like...
When you're in, like, a dungeon.
Yeah. Okay. That was always fucking terrible, that room. Ooh, okay. Oh, even though I guess you're in a dungeon. Yeah.
Okay.
I was always fucking terrible at that game.
No, it's hard.
It's really hard.
A couple years ago, I had it on Game Boy
and was like, I'm going to play this game.
I'm going to beat it.
I watched someone,
it was like people see how quickly they can beat games.
I was watching a bunch of those the other night,
and there was one for Zelda,
and it was like 35 minutes long.
But they run through the whole thing.
It's so amazing
how they know
where to walk at certain points
that shit doesn't hit them.
It's insane.
I've been known to beat Super Mario Brothers
in like four minutes.
But Zelda's a whole new
bag of potatoes. You used to wake up and play it every morning right beat it real quick
before you went to work yeah real quick front door it was like you had to make this there was
a split second call do i get in the shower or do i play mario super mario brother real quick
and normally it was super mario brothers i haven't played in a while because all the games are back
there unhooked i never beat the the original. But I played the second
one. The original Mario Brothers? Or the original Super Mario Brothers?
You've never beaten that?
One time I tried to beat it without using
the B button at all. So you couldn't
have any turbo.
Oh, you can't run fast?
Yeah, and there's one part I thought in like 8.2
that I thought you couldn't get by because the
jump was too long. But I timed it out
so you saw
one of those turtle dudes walk in
and then you have to jump at this perfect second
so when he's fallen off the side,
you hit him and bounce back up,
but then in the last level in 8.4,
at the end with the
hammer brothers, you can't
get by that dude without using turbo.
So don't try it if you're out there listening.
Kids, this is Sector 4 wasbelt safety sector five is don't try to play super mario brothers
without using the b button need the b button there's a reason for it uh so what's going on
not a whole lot i think that was what was going on right yeah that's pretty much everything we
had going on first when's the last time we did this i don't know it's been a while yeah little kevin greenspon there in the uh doing the intro we uh he was he actually probably still is
on tour because he's on like an intense long ass tour and uh he played delaware the other night
came into the studio and sat down with the tabs out crew for
but yeah he did come in and talk to us so we'll play that a little bit later he played a pretty
awesome set too yeah he played an intense that was awesome and then sky stadium was was really
awesome i was kind of blown away because he was saying i wonder what i want to play tonight
i'm like what do you mean he's like my set list i'm like wait you have like actual compositions
that you're gonna play tonight he played shit off of tapes that was like on, yeah, like actual songs.
Actual pieces that he'll do again.
Yeah.
He knew what he was doing.
That's crazy.
Yeah.
Who ever heard of such a thing?
Boring.
That's why Joe didn't go.
Yeah.
I want to see that.
All right.
Somebody want to start it off here?
Who wants to start it off? Dave does. Want to start it off here who wants to start it off
dave does i want to start it off dave's corner um let's do this hive mind tape all right it's
been a while since we played that's the hive mind tape you picked up on his last tour right yeah
now is this a kondritic sound tape because i was like it is yeah i was uh i took all my tapes off
the shelf the other day and and I put them all together,
and then I was going to put them all back on the shelf.
And I decided eventually to put them back up by label.
That's the way to do it.
I was toying around with putting them up by spine color.
Because it's one of those, you know,
it's like all late and you're all high,
and you're like, oh, spine color.
It would be incredible.
And then after five tapes, you're like,
let me just sleep on this one.
But this doesn't have a label name on it
so I didn't know to put it with the chondritic sound stuff
or with self-release stuff.
Oh, it doesn't have chondritic sound anymore?
It looks like all the newer
chondritic sound stuff.
But I mean, obviously it would.
Not obviously, but you know what I mean.
But yeah, what's this one called?
I don't think it has a title actually.
Under Old Earth. earth says we're
in the cover so it's like if you pick up this tape this i've my tape it's gonna be pretty hard
not to figure out what the title is you'll never think it doesn't have a title i have another one
that doesn't have a title that's why i got confused you're right yeah no one's buying that
i'll go i'll go home and get it right now. All right.
I think this...
We played a Hivemind track on here before, I think, from that...
It was from that box, right?
The Steel Trap box, right?
Oh, from the Steel Trap box, yeah.
So this may be the first artist that we've doubled down, double dip.
Double dip.
Double flip.
Double dip.
Double dip, drip drip.
All right.
So here's a cut off of the Hivemind Under Old Earth cassette, or it doesn't have a title
if you're not going gonna put the work in I'm going to go ahead and get back to the car. I'm going to go ahead and get back to the car. Thank you. I'm going to go ahead and get out to the car. Thank you. Thank you. I'm going to go ahead and get back to you guys. Thank you. Thank you. so
so I'm going to go ahead and get back to the car. The Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaavaavaavaavaavaavaavaava Thank you. I'm sorry. The End Thank you. so Thank you. Hive Mine.
A little more than half of the...
Tape with no title.
A side of the self-titled.
I thought you would start seeing more from Conjuric Sound
because he was gone for a bit
and then he came back with a batch
with a bunch of stuff in it.
And then he moved to LA.
He moved to LA,
but then when he was there,
he put out that batch and then did a tour
and it seemed like
it was going to start
being active again
but I haven't
at least I haven't
heard anything
in a while
I think
I think this was
supposed to be on
Chondritic
and then he had
he also had like
a various
artists
tape
but I think it was
like all him
and
I could
I swear I remember
reading online it wasn't like on chondritic it
was like on some blog that they were like tour tapes for and they were chondritic maybe just did
the tour and right now that makes sense i remember elephant graveyard yeah it was like a three inch
cdr thing right i don't remember what i think he just put out three inch cdr on that yeah
i don't really know all right b all. I think he just put out three in GDR on that, yeah. I don't really know.
All right, B, you want to bust this one out?
I don't know.
What do you got over there? Well, all right, I'm going to play this new Drain-A-Lift tape on NNA.
I'm not really sure if I like it or not.
Yeah, I haven't heard it yet, but I like the Drain-A-Lift stuff I've heard.
But I figure I'll give it another go.
Do you ever fucking rewind anything before you bring it over here?
No.
Why?
We have a rewinder.
Well, I could have been rewinding it.
You have one of those, like a VHS that just rewound the tapes.
You have one just for consenting.
That would be nice.
Why don't they make those?
What side are you on?
The A side.
All right.
That's the one I wanted. Have I? The A side. That's the one I wanted.
Have I...
The A side.
What's the insert say here?
It's...
Drone or lift.
Where are ye, Colonel Leslie Groves?
Google Colonel Leslie Groves and see what comes up.
No track titles, though.
I don't know if I've mentioned this on here before.
Dave, if I have
edited it out
but
so NNA
with like all their tapes
with like the half circles
I know you're gonna talk about
you're gonna talk about the LPs
have I mentioned this before
well in
I think in
you know
I may have mentioned
in conversations between me and you
and not on air
and then like
I forget what LP they put out
it was like a Nate Young LP
or something like that
it was like a Regression LP
or something
yeah yeah yeah
and they
didn't keep the aesthetic with the circle on it,
on the LP cover,
and just made me like,
now I'm going to buy it.
Yeah, I agree.
Huge bonus.
Because this aesthetic is so awesome.
I hope I've mentioned it before.
Actually, just to hammer the point home.
Like the NNA tapes, the circle is so amazing.
Yeah.
Because the way they do certain things with like the One On Tricks Point Never tape that is just the hole punch or whatever.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
It's in a circular thing, but it's not a hard circle.
And the head boggle one is all like it.
They're not all like hard circles, like images and then circled out.
Hard circle, that's our new project name.
Hard circle?
Okay, we'll go with that.
What else was I going to say?
I saw an update for another label, whose name I won't mention,
that they're on their second or third batch,
and they started the same exact aesthetic
with the half circle in the front that wraps around.
And I was telling Dave this earlier.
It's like, I know you thought it was a cool idea.
I thought it was a cool idea, too.
It looks awesome.
You can't do it.
You're not allowed to do it.
And NNA is already doing it.
No, that's way too, like, that's like a signature, like.
Signature move.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's like Dee Brown covering his eyes and dunking it.
Like, you know, Dominique Wilkins can't come back and do that.
I don't get any of those references.
Those are basketball references.
All right, so we're around here.
So we'll start it off.
Adrenalith, Colonel Mustard, see something on NNA. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. All right, that was a cut from the newer drain-a-lith tape, NNA.
I still don't know if I like it or not.
I like that. I liked it, but it definitely seemed like those Shreds videos on YouTube.
Like that would have been on the Cree Shreds playing like that.
All it's missing is doing a guitar solo.
It's just missing the Scott snap.
No, but I like that.
I like the fart sounds.
You like the fart sounds? I don't know if I like the fart sounds. You like the fart sounds?
I don't know if I like the fart sounds with the piano.
It reminds me of something Lil Wayne would have done.
If Lil Wayne gets into noise.
That'd be incredible.
I can't wait for the day when Lil Wayne gets into noise.
Put skateboarding on hold to do noise.
Quit skateboarding.
Who would be his mentor?
He needs a dude to take him under his wing.
Thurston Moore. You think it'd be there some more i think you know what maybe it would be there some more or lou reed
i could see that i'm obsessed with watching uh videos of little wayne's i watch so many
videos skateboarding i like the the ones when there's always
one dude who's like,
yeah, dog! Yeah, dog!
All excited. Go! Bust it out, man!
Go, Lil Wayne!
I watch this one where his cousin is trying
to learn how to drop in on
just a mini ramp.
He keeps fucking up
and then finally gets it and they're flipping out
all over. I'm like, alright, he dropped in on a four-foot mini ramp yeah i love when he
hangs out with skateboarders it's hard oh it's hard yeah sure gotta go down the wall with wheels
do a trick you know yeah there were some dudes down at the park today at the reservoir um
down at the reservoir today uh you know, like, skating off of, like,
and it's a pretty big drop.
It's like a 15-foot drop or whatever, those stairs,
and, like, taking pictures while in the air
but not landing anything.
They look sick.
Yeah, but I bet it looked really sick.
Got the flick.
That's all that counts.
All right, I'll go up here now.
What do I want to play?
What do you want to play?
You know what I'm going to play?
I'm going to play this Mark Lord straight from the hand cassette on Ranky Tanky.
Mark Lord?
Yeah, Mark Lord is...
What's the name of the dude who did Kites?
Chris.
Chris.
Chris.
Chris something, right?
Chris definitely.
Forges?
Oh, you know what? I think that might be right
I have a split with
Mark Lord and Morden
Egg maybe
Morden Egg
That's my tax
Accountant attorney
Egg Egg and Shinester
It's Morgan his brother Harry, and Giuseppe Shinester.
This is...
Well, I've never heard any Mark Lord stuff.
I have this tape, and then I think Gray put out a tape on Conjuric.
I have to say, I don't like the name.
Mark Lord.
There's a reference there, but I don't remember what it is.
Mark Lord is someone.
Okay.
But I remember looking it up
at the time
when I got the other tape.
And I think I also have
a comp that he's on,
but I don't really remember.
Always really do
dig this dude's artwork.
I want to say
this label,
Ranky Tanky,
is the dude from Social Junk and Night Burger and all that stuff.
His label.
I don't know why his name is totally escaping me right now.
I don't remember his name either.
His name is...
Noah Anthony.
Yeah, Noah Anthony.
Noah Anthony.
I think it's his label.
Okay.
If this isn't his label, if this is your label,
email us at contactatabsout.com.
But in the meantime, I like all this.
This dude's stuff always reminds me of door stuff.
Artwork-wise and a little bit sound-wise.
Yeah, there's definitely a similarity in drawings and stuff.
Can I see that J card?
I guess if you have to.
All right, so here's some cuts off of Mark Lennon. Thank you. I'm going to show you how to make a so
so Thank you. Thank you. I'm going to show you how to do it. Thank you. Thank you. I'm going to go you how to make a Thank you. Thank you. I'm going to go ahead and do it. Thank you. Mark Lord.
That was a straight banger.
Straight banger.
From the straight from the head cassette on Ranky Tanky.
That wasn't what I expected it to sound like.
We looked that up.
That is no Anthony's label, right?
Yeah, if it's not, I'd be surprised.
You know what?
Now that I'm thinking about that, he gave me a Regitworks cassette when he played Delaware
Not Long Go on the same label.
I liked it.
There's a check mark
on the back of the tape
as if it was like,
inspect it.
So I think if you have
a problem with these,
you can send them back.
All right, Dave,
you want to bust something out?
Yeah, we could do something.
Well, then go.
I'm going to go.
I'm going to do this red electric rainbow tape from Sacred Phrases.
We haven't played anything from Sacred Phrases yet.
No, we haven't, which is a damn shame.
Yeah.
It's a fine label.
Really good label.
Where's that dude from?
Indiana.
Okay.
Adam something.
I can't remember his last name.
Sandler.
What?
Yeah.
He was tape label?
Yeah, it's crazy.
A lot of this stuff is just him playing acoustic guitar and talking about holidays and stuff.
But there's some good stuff.
There's some good noise stuff, yeah.
No, I feel like Sacred Phrases came around not that long ago, right?
Maybe like two years ago or something like that?
Yeah, about two years ago.
Yeah, but he's been putting out some crazy good stuff.
Yeah, really good. I think he's got a new compilation
coming out soon.
His last batch came out a while ago,
but it just got an email about a month ago.
It's about wrapped up.
Are you going to be on it?
Yeah, he did one.
It's the second in a series
called Inscriptions. I think it's pretty much i think
it's pretty much everybody that was on the first volume it's gonna be on the second volume i just
picked up a bunch of sacred phrases stuff not new stuff but um some stuff that i didn't have
and red electric rainbow that dude kind of disappeared right yeah i haven't seen anything
he was pumping stuff out yeah all good two labels, too. And you have two labels going, right?
Yeah, he had the Neon Blossom.
Was it called Neon Blossom or Neon something else?
It was Neon Blossom, I think.
Yeah, right.
And then there was Hyperdelic.
Was that the other one?
Yeah, that's the one that I never, right?
Yeah, that's the one that, like, yeah, and it would, like, list all the gear inside of them.
And it all had, like, similar artwork and stuff.
And he was also doing that fest.
Neon Marshmallow.
We've talked about it before.
Oh, I think we have talked about it.
Was he the Acid Marshmallow dude too?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I don't know what's going on with that guy now.
Daniel Smith, that's his name, right?
That sounds right, yeah.
Yeah.
And there's probably only, what, two or three Daniel Smiths in the world.
So we can track this guy down.
Yeah, because he was non-stop busting stuff out.
Someone had a gun to his head.
Maybe they did.
Maybe they shot him.
Do you think they finally killed him?
My prayers are with the Smith family tonight.
To the Smith family.
All right.
Well, what's this called?
Red Electric Rainbow.
Comment about your face off.
I also really liked he had that project 70s era pink floyd which
is a that's an amazing name amazing name bugs me a little bit that he has two projects one with red
and one with pink like let's not it would bother you it did bother me a little bit did you rewind
that it might need to be rewind i guess i'll talk about this artwork while this
i like that uh i do actually want to talk about this artwork while this ruins it. I thought it was ruined already.
I like that... I do actually want to talk about, for a second,
the Sacred Faces. I like that their insert
is like a little business card for all their tapes.
Oh, yeah. Well, that's not a business card
size, Dave.
It's about a business card.
Let me tell you this. If you cut this down
for a customer, they're going to get
that. What is this?
It's like a three-quarter size business card. Let me see you this. If you cut this down for a customer, they're going to get that. What is this? It's like a three-quarter size business card.
Let me see you hold it, Dave.
Oh, my God.
It's going to look like a Cracker Jack tattoo.
It's a Scrabble piece.
Scrabble pieces are square.
Do we really need to get into these arguments?
All right.
Red Electric Rainbow, coming out your face off.
Sacred Phrases number 17. Thank you. so Thank you. so
wow Thank you. Yeah! Thank you. so
so I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if you can see it, but I'm not sure if I can do it. Thank you. I'm not sure if I can do it. I'm not sure if I can do this, but I'm not sure if I can do this.
I'm not sure if I can do this, but I'm not sure if I can do this.
I'm not sure if I can do this, but I'm not sure if I can do this.
I'm not sure if I can do this, but I'm not sure if I can do this.
I'm not sure if I can do this, but I'm not sure if I can do this. Red Electric Rainbow.
I can hear myself right now.
Echo, echo.
You should be able to hear yourself.
Through the speakers.
Have you never been able to hear yourself until right now?
Until right now, the sound of your voice?
It's wacky.
It's wacky.
That was a banger.
Another banger.
When we came back from it the first time and Dave wasn't recording,
I'll just let
you know i had a string of hilarious humor um it was topical you know yeah relevant i'm not gonna
i'm not gonna get into it but just like just know you missed out because of dave thanks dave
yep you're welcome well i gotta i'm not gonna get into the whole thing about the sacred phrases
artwork how i like it a lot and the whole thing about the Sacred Phrases artwork how I like it a lot
the whole thing about it
well Joe B
during that break you didn't give us an opinion
on what you thought about the Sacred Phrases
you being a scholarly
I think it looks awesome
I couldn't find words to
describe it
without being disrespectful
without being like That's fucking stupid
No no no
I really like it
Bottom line
Grip some
Sacred Phrases
Tapes
Cause they're always awesome
They look good
They sound good
Support that label
Whose turn is it?
My turn
My turn
I'm so upset
That the world
Won't hear my humor
I forgot whose turn it was
I wanna play
Some of this Greg Davis tape, States 2.
We call that a glitch in the radio industry.
This is Gold Timer's tape.
I think I brought it a couple times.
I don't think we've played it.
Let me see it.
Hold it up near.
You sure you haven't played that?
I don't think we've played this.
I'm pretty sure I've brought it multiple times.
I don't think we've played Greg Davis.
No.
That is a real...
Holy shit.
Open it up.
That is a beautiful tape.
Open it up.
It's nice.
I'm pretty sure you bought that from me and still haven't paid me for it, but I was like,
that's a lot.
Really?
Whoa.
There's like a...
Because I got that and the Raga Chrome tape at the same time, and you owed me...
That's not talking about what I owed you.
And then we got the whole thing.
Okay.
Holy shit.
I don't think I still owe you for the grasshopper tape.
Oh, and remind...
And then the hexbreaker tape.
I definitely...
Write those ones down.
I'll put that in the log.
In the ledger.
This is beautiful.
Yeah, this is like one of the most intensely put together
cassettes I've ever seen.
Nice little booklet.
You can't get this anymore, right?
No, I don't think so.
Kind of a booklet thing on the inside. Yeah, I can't get this anymore, right? No, I don't think so.
Kind of a booklet thing on the inside.
Like die cut cover.
If you can't describe it, hand it over to a man who can.
Like supernova or some sort of sun.
You know, the same picture on every page but a different color.
Imagine like a two panel J card.
The front cover is die cut
with like a hexagon.
And then there's like a hexagon. Uh,
and then there's like a booklet inside of it that like,
what?
Like a,
like an eight page booklet inside of it.
Is it a pro dub cassette?
Please tell me it's a broke.
Oh,
that'd be the cherry on top.
Yeah.
It's a pro dub cassette.
Oh,
and it's like a prison.
Oh,
Oh mom.
Oh,
this is the big one.
Louise,
I'm coming to meet you.
Look at that, too.
They got the black spools in there.
Who put this out?
Gold Timers.
Damn, girl.
This is nice.
Gold Timers is another dude who...
You thought that was Dan Smith for a while, right?
Who I think...
He kind of disappeared, I think.
Gold Timers, I think he's still doing stuff.
Is he?
I haven't seen anything in a bit.
Hmm.
I feel like I just saw an update from him recently.
This does look fucking amazing, though.
I don't know if I kept one.
You know what?
I didn't keep one of these for myself
because I was just organizing my tapes the other day,
like I was saying.
And I did not see this in the stacks.
Greg Davis was
in Sun Circle?
Yeah.
I noticed the Sun Circle tape over there.
I've brought that multiple times, but I don't think I'll play it.
I was actually going to play
the Wind-Up Bird side, but
whatever.
What's the tape called?
States 2.
States 2. Yeah. What's the save called? States 2. States 2.
Yeah.
Greg Davis. Thank you. Thank you. I'm going to make a fire. I'm sorry. Oh, my God. I'm sorry. I'm going to make a new house. Oh, my God. I'm sorry. Well, well, well.
Well, well, well.
Echo, echo.
Some bloopy bleeps from Greg Davis.
States too.
Yeah, that was awesome.
I like stuff like that.
Yeah.
The sounds lived up to the artwork.
Yeah.
Solid all around.
Good times.
Good times on gold timers.
That's the tagline with the commercial.
When you need a good time, reach for gold timers.
All right.
Am I up on this?
Yeah.
I want to play this tape that just came in the mail today from a label called, what is the label called?
Cave.
Cave Recordings.
Oh, I've seen some updates from Cave.
I got a chapel split.
I can't remember who the chapel split's with.
It's downstairs.
And then I got this Calypso Borealis tape.
I wrote down some stuff on who that was because I've heard the name before,
but I never heard them.
And then I was looking it up, and apparently it's someone from France.
And they have tapes like on that label Rocket Machine from Australia.
Never heard of that label?
Rocket Machine?
They did a travels tape
oh okay nice
thanks for checking it out Joe
they've done something on Hooker Vision
you stopped giving me all your clippings
yeah that's true
they did a tape on Hooker Vision
a tape on House of Sun
like a four way or
five way thing with
Derek Rogers I've done a four-way or five-way thing with uh derrick rogers i've done four-way with derrick
rogers it's crazy let's see 35 on housecraft
i was listening to this earlier today it's's really fucking good. That's a pretty nice resume.
It's pronounced resume.
Resume.
But it tastes really good.
And then this cover, it's like the two-panel cover on some pretty nice paper with this transparency.
That's vellum.
Not transparency, that's vellum.
That's a vellum.
I've seen that before.
But yeah,
like I saw somewhere,
I was looking up
trying to figure out
who this person
or people were
and somewhere,
I forget where,
but it said like
a mysterious project
from France.
So I bet you
it's like
somebody from New Jersey
has like a persona.
France is a dangerous place.
Is it?
Yeah.
Still?
Even after the revolution?
Well, it was back during the revolution.
It was a very dangerous time.
What's dangerous about it now?
The wine?
The wine and the hard breads.
The really, really hard baguettes.
I'm surprised you brought baguettes because after this tape,
you know what?
Did you go to Segway?
Did you take Dr. Bellascio's Segway class?
Speaking of hard breads.
Speaking of hard breads and baguettes,
you'll understand this later.
After this tape, I guess we'll just go straight into the Kevin Greenspon interview
from when
he was here.
Sounds like a plan.
And then do that.
Do what I did there.
So did you have anything else you want to say about hard breads or like soft cheeses?
I don't really like soft cheese, though.
Brie.
You don't like to spread it like a cracker?
Have you ever had baked brie?
No.
Delicious.
You had that blueberry cheese in your house that
was disgusting what is it it was like this blueberry cheese blueberry cheese he was talking
up like it was the best thing he's ever had it tasted like a uh it tasted like like a jelly
donut it tastes disgusting it tasted like bubble gum inside of cheese i don't think it was there
was real blueberries was i talking with you about bubble gum today yes no yesterday think it was. There was real blueberries. Was I talking with you about bubblegum today?
No, yesterday.
It wasn't you.
I don't know who it could have been.
It's been a long time since there's been an innovation in gum.
What's the new innovation?
Flavor crystals.
Flavor crystals. Oh, all right.
There hasn't been anything since then.
They changed the packaging and made it look all...
I remember now because that gum commercial came on.
It was like,
why the fuck are gum commercials so intense?
And why are there gum commercials at all?
And like,
are you ever like,
oh my God.
Does anyone still do sticks of gum?
Or now,
because now they're those little.
They're like chiclets or like.
Yeah.
They come in those like wide packs.
Yeah,
yeah.
Like,
I bet you they still have like.
But not like the classic,
like,
you know,
big red sticks.
Yeah, I bet you they still have like not like the classic like you know big red sticks yeah
i bet you they still like the sticks in like japan but they come in like panties or something
something weird definitely something weird in japan sorry to the japanese listeners all right
here's jesus christ calypso borealis uh with the tape on cave recordings uh the the cassette is called
uh i'm not pronouncing that it's got a name
and uh then the kevin greenspan interview Thank you. I'm gonna do it again so
so so
so so
so so I'm not sure if I can do it. so so so so
so so so The The Thank you. Thank you. The Thank you. All right, we're here with Kevin Greenspun from Los Angeles, California.
Is that correct? Is that where you're from?
Yeah.
Yeah?
You're on a bit of a, what, like a three-month tour?
It's pretty close. It's like two and three quarters.
It's a stretch.
Yeah.
It's a long one.
Yeah.
It's a proper tour, man. Yeah, there's been wars that have been shorter than that a couple yeah um so what do you you're
about like halfway through that a little bit more than halfway through three quarters tomorrow we
did the math uh on the stoop outside the show today yeah and you're three quarters the way
through yeah so how has how's it been going
it's been going pretty excellent i mean there hasn't really been any terrible shows there's
been a lot of really good ones so i guess it's been on as a tour average it's definitely a lot
higher than i guess i'm used to yeah or maybe my friends are used to which is like a really
bold thing to say i guess but
it's really nice to be feeling like all these shows are going so smooth haven't really had
any problems no car trouble no sketchy sleeping situations other than like two nights ago oh what
happened two nights ago it wasn't really that sketchy but it was just like these kids that
set up the show they were all
lived with their parents and then like when i asked where was the show it was in glassboro
new jersey which is like i don't think anyone that's listening to this has probably ever heard
of that well maybe if they live in delaware i've never heard i've never heard of glassboro
yeah well it wasn't too far from uh philadelphia just across the river and uh just like this weird
little place that uh just a lot of weird college kids, goth, hot topic kids came out.
And the whole show, they thought it was like an electronic DJ thing.
And there was like piano lessons being given before the show.
And the guy who owned the space was like, I walked in.
He's like, you here for the show?
I'm like, yeah, I'm playing.
He's like, you're playing?
Well, I'm giving lessons. Was the show? I'm like, yeah, I'm playing. He's like, you're playing?
Well, I'm giving lessons.
Was there a piano there?
Oh, yeah.
There was a little kid getting lessons and kind of getting yelled at.
He really tears into them.
The piano teachers are like that.
Yeah, yeah, definitely.
So he told us to go wait in the back for a while,
and I was hanging out in the back. And the guy who brought the PA was there.
And as soon as he was done, he goes in there, and like he cranks dubstep I'm like oh okay it's gonna
be one of those nights and then I don't know kind of a wild ride I guess and the kids didn't realize
that when you're traveling when they set up a show for you especially when they ask you to come
through this place they need to provide a place to sleep you know it doesn't really have to be anything special
floor a couch futon whatever and uh so then we just went to philadelphia stayed with someone i
knew and uh i don't know but it was it was pretty weird because i didn't know he was going to be
coming out to the show and there's just a bunch of kids that like everyone you ask they're just like
what do you mean?
It's like, well, I need somewhere to sleep tonight.
I'm not from here.
Now when you say kids, you're talking about like eight-year-olds?
I'm talking about like nine-year-olds.
Well, some of their kids were there too, though.
So that was kind of pushing it.
I mean, I'm not going to sleep in a crib.
Don't knock it until you try it.
All right.
I'll trust you. And get a nice swaddle on yeah it'll be really really comfy well if they got a mobile
then that's like that's that's different that's that knocks me right out changes the game yeah
definitely so is this your first like extensive tour like this i know you've you've had other
tours that you've done but have they been like i mean this when it comes to this long definitely the first time earlier this year i did a 30-day tour and that went really smooth for the
most part um those guys baby birds don't drink milk who are possibly playing the next final
friday here i toured with them in their van and uh vehicle blues who runs that lillern tapes label
i'm looking at a pin on the table right now.
And he mailed some stuff into you pretty recently,
a couple of episodes back.
Yeah, I think we got a Baby Bird's Don't Drink Milk tape.
It might have been Lil' Earn.
Yeah, yeah, that's the label. That's the one that released it.
It'd be in here somewhere.
I've got it at home.
It's somewhere in this room.
I think there's a couple tapes in here.
It's like the cover is like a picture of like a car dashboard and
there's like a Boglin.
Yeah.
I'm like to the side.
I'm not in the picture, but I'm definitely in that.
It was during that tour.
That was like a, you might be able to see a cactus in the cup holder.
Nice.
I'm not sure if you can see it but in milwaukee they're like we went to
these domes that they have uh they're like arboretums kind of they're like oh we got to
get a cactus so they get a little four dollar cactus and like we need a van cactus and put it
in obviously you need a van cactus yeah because whenever you're reaching for like a the cassette
adapter cable and you want to like plug in something or change the tape or
whatever you got to have something spiky to hit your hand on or when you're sure trying to do the
ac or whatever the hell otherwise it doesn't mean anything yeah i mean don't you guys have
cactuses in your i put cactuses i strategically place them throughout my entire house yeah i saw
i saw a couple yeah they're everywhere there's like one in the toilet it's like a really good location yeah like next level like icing that's what they should probably do
next it's like cactus icing on the toilet cake i believe is what was on the package when i bought
it i said that maybe in a urinal that would be pretty that would be pretty intense that'd be
yeah that'd be like a blue drano cakes does. Cactus cakes? Does Drano make those?
Someone makes those cakes.
The urinal cakes, but it's got a cactus coming out.
Urinal co.
Little spikes.
Ooh.
Yeah.
Well, yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
What is the, you do Bridgetown Records, right?
Yeah.
How long have you been doing that?
I think five years.
Five years.
What was the first thing you put out? It was everyone else's label myself of course you know that's how it is
and then you know from there you just start releasing your friends stuff and more of your
own shit and because i've noticed that you i whenever i see you have a new batch out it's
always like 17 new releases yeah you'd like to go strong like that just dump them all out i
hate releasing one thing at a time it's just like why not just wait another two weeks yeah and then
just get them all done at the same time get everything out yeah what was some recent stuff
you put out um in this last batch i put out a cd for former selves he's this guy from oakland
i did a tour with him in november and he did a lot of
the visuals that i'm projecting on this tour and you have a split with him on like what's that
chicago label that i always go up gold timers is that label still around yeah it's gold timer so
i haven't seen anything from that label he just moved to colorado okay yeah i actually remember
seeing about this on the internet because on On the what? On the internet.
It's this new thing.
Yeah.
Dave.
Tell us all about it.
Well, all right.
So it's the WWW.
Yeah, it's the one with the... I know that, the WWW.
It's the one with the four Ws.
Yeah, I know that.
Web 2.0.
Yeah.
We're on the next web.
Yeah.
Next web. Yeah, anyways anyways yeah so uh he moved to
colorado he actually just saw the former sales fellow uh my friend paul because he played some
festival out there on the way back from virginia or some weird moving thing for his parents i don't
know um yeah i'd release a cd of that seven inch of uh my best friend and i he does a thing called
nicole kidman which is like these weird blown out keyboard pop songs he and i used to run a house
space for a couple years in california and there was a tape for sky stadium and his girlfriend's
side old project ultradome and a bunch of other stuff too i can't even
remember because it's been so long ago since you last released something i mean it's really more
like two months but i just that's forever in tape time it's forever in tape time that's why uh isn't
that why you kind of slowed down hiatus two months nac yeah it's just yeah nac has been having some delays
lately yeah i think they just got like way more like uh work than they expected for tape labels
and it's just that's just the way it is all the big companies are dealing with them too
there's a lot of big indies or even possibly major labels doing stuff with them and plus all the like
church stuff that they do they do a lot of they're not the same the blinds are just
not out there no but um i don't know i mean if you get blanks you still get them in like
less than a week yeah the blinds are just duplicating and i guess if people don't want
to dub them themselves and then it does take a long ass time totally yeah yeah i had a duplicator
and then i sold it and then i started doing pro dubs and then they started taking forever
it's just like yeah yeah i can't i can't handle the weight so i just i just always order a ton
of blanks i'll order like five, six, 700 at a time.
Then I'll just, you know, that's how I get these batches done.
You know, I'll just order so many.
The thing that sucks is that you have so many cases taking up space.
Because you can't do anything with the cases until you're completely done with the tapes.
Yeah, yeah.
You have like case boxes going all the way up to the ceiling.
Do you have like a high-speed duplicator or are you just real time?
No, I'll real time.
Oh, yeah? Yeah. That's pretty insane. Just deck no i have several okay okay yeah all right you want
to play a little bit of uh what do you got here you got something by yourself this is what you
got in front of you this is a tape that uh played a couple songs from tonight and uh you can pop
that guy in let's see what we got here.
Is this something you put up?
This looks like one of your releases.
Yeah, that's on my label.
Nice.
You got it queued up here?
Nope.
No?
You can just play it, whatever.
This looks nice.
I like the... Whoa.
Whoa.
Thick stock.
That's a thick stock, man.
That's considered a weapon in some states.
That's nice.
Did you like... Did you score that yeah nice you did you didn't like cut these by hand obviously no i did well not with the
scissors but like with a do you got the uh do you got the up and down or you got the
oh the slider the slider yeah well don't say of course a lot of people have the up and down
oh man dude those are the I can't hang with those.
Up and downs are expensive, man.
I think I was looking at an up and down for a little while.
The cheapest one I could find was like $500 or $600.
Yeah, unless it's a good one.
It's going to cut crooked anyways.
Yeah.
You might as well be cutting it with a scissors then.
Yeah, yeah.
Razor blade.
Now, do you stick to this?
Because a lot of your releases have the same general aesthetic.
Sometimes.
I mean, sometimes I kind of break away from it
or I shift it in a weird way.
I had a lot of ones that were all white backgrounds,
and then for one in the middle of a batch,
I just kind of flipped it into black with yellow.
And I don't know.
I like to mix it up every once in a while,
kind of break from the style, I guess. Yeah. I like to mix it up every once in a while. Kind of like break from the style, I guess.
But kind of keep it unified.
Even with the other formats, like when I released a 7-inch or a CD or something,
I like to have kind of a similar feel with it.
I always like seeing the Norelco cases with the opaque color backs.
Yeah.
Those always look...
If they go with the artwork, they always look really awesome.
This was really good.
So what's this called?
Maroon Bells, Bridgetown number 72, spring 2012.
This is a new gem.
It's pretty recent, yeah.
Pretty recent gem.
That was two batches ago.
All right, well, let's play something off of the Kevin Greenspan Maroon Bells cassette. © BF-WATCH TV 2021 ¶¶ © BF-WATCH TV 2021 © BF-WATCH TV 2021 Thank you. © transcript Emily Beynon Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Two cuts from Maroon Bells.
Good stuff, man.
Thank you.
Excellent.
All right, Kevin.
Well, thanks for coming into the studio, Kevin.
Oh, really?
Thanks for coming in.
Thanks for the piece of bread.
Did you take some of my bread?
Yeah, I took some of that bread.
Nice.
It's baguette, according to Mike Haley.
It's not stale.
Actually, it's just stale hot dog rolls.
Package said otherwise, definitely.
Well, have a good one quarter of tour getting home.
I hope your car doesn't catch on fire.
I think it's got
a thing for that.
Uh oh.
Like it has a pension for
doing that sort of thing?
Yeah, it's just got like
it really gets its rocks off.
Just like, you know,
engine. It has like a light on the dashboard that's like a little
flame that comes out. It's like, oh, not again!
All of a sudden it bursts into flames.
That's a pain in the ass.
Alright, man.
Well, thanks again.
Yeah, thanks, Kevin.
Alright, that was the Kevin
Greenspine interview.
And a little
jammage off of the Maroon Bells cassette
on Bridgetown.
He's still on his tour.
It ends on the
20th of this month,
October 2012.
I have to say, he was
pretty well-rested.
He seemed pretty well-rested.
Yeah, he seemed in good spirits.
Smell too bad.
No, he seemed like he was. Didn't smell too bad. No.
No, he seemed like he was pretty good for being away for so long.
Yeah, yeah.
He's probably, as you're listening to this, if you're listening to this right away,
he's probably down in Florida right now.
And I'm just noticing now, on October 10th in Orlando, Florida,
he's playing with Hardon Collider from Ohio.
So you get to see Hardon Collider.
I wonder, who's Hardon Collider?
I don't know, but it's like Hadron Collider.
It's funny.
Yeah, there was like some scientist.
Wait, there's a scientist in Hardon Collider?
And he's like, if we take two boners, we can create the Big Bang.
There was like a, I don't even know if I should talk about it.
October 11th in Atlanta with Quiet Evenings.
And then Nashville on the 12th with Sparkling White Pressure.
And then Caneyville, Kentucky on the 13th. Caneyville, Kentucky on the 13th.
Caneyville.
Bowling Green
on the 14th.
Memphis on the 15th.
Why do you keep sounding like
you're about to start laughing?
I'm still thinking of Hard On Collider.
Yeah, but then going through
out back to Southern California
So if you get a chance, go out and see him
I was playing with James Fella
In Phoenix on the 20th
So if you get a chance, go out and see
Kevin Greenspun
He's a nice fella
Good to the guy
Friendly guy
Dave, what tape are you playing?
It's me turn?
I think I'm going to play...
This is going to be another transition you're going to play.
Yeah, nice little transition here.
We're going to play this Baby Birds Don't Drink Milk tape
that came out on Low Learn Tapes
that we were talking about during the interview.
I feel like I just heard about this tape.
It's pretty good.
I didn't realize these guys are
kind of big.
They're kind of big.
Like they're tall?
They're huge people.
They're huge?
But, uh,
I popped it in again today.
It's good jam.
Yeah, you did.
Alright, well, let's get into this baby birds don't drink milk
cassette on Lil' Learn tapes
is that what it is?
Lil' Learn tapes for big old guys Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I went, you know, stone cold tonight.
I'm having a great time.
Baby birds don't drink milk.
Lillard Tapes number 33.
We just got this in the mail a couple weeks ago.
We might still be able to find this on the webs.
Yeah, maybe.
LillardTapes.com.
Another Chicago label.
A lot coming out of Chicago these days.
You want to Jordan? Jordan. You want to... Jordan.
Jordan.
You want to talk about new releases?
New releases?
What's going on in the world?
I got a list actually here.
Some notes.
A Jay Zager C41
on human conduct.
Which I'm not really familiar too much with that label.
But I think they sent something into the...
Tranquility just put out a new batch.
Tranquility's pumping them out.
I feel like they put out a new batch not long ago
that we mentioned on the last episode, right?
Well, I think the last batch they did
was with that Duets comp and that Lunar Miasma tape and stuff.
They just reissued the Pulsaminer tape that they put out, that C50.
Oh, reissue, huh?
Yeah.
I think they did like 50 copies of it.
And they did like a different Clouds tape,
Andres Brandl, Mizner Space.
Oh, shit, I haven't heard.
They did a different Clouds tape or different Clouds?
What do you think, Joe?
Grant Evans tape.
Andres Brandl, I haven't seen anything from that dude recently,
so that's good to see that he's still active.
Yeah, because for a while, a lot was coming out. I haven't seen anything from that dude recently, so that's good to see that he's still active. Yeah.
Yeah, because for a while, a lot was coming out.
Tape Drift put out a batch of three tapes,
Derek Rogers, C30, Talk West, C30,
and a Josh Mason, Nathan McLaughlin split C40.
I know we got a tape from Nathan McLaughlin from somebody.
I forget who, though.
We may have played it.
I don't remember.
Pathetic just put out two tapes from Angelo Harmsworth and Dinner Music.
I was going to say Diner Music, but that's one N, right?
Yes.
Yeah.
Two N's make you fatter.
And then what?
I know the dessert one.
Is that what you're going on?
I didn't think about that before I said it.
Two N's make you fatter.
Because they're both eating.
But if you eat at a diner.
It's way healthier.
It's way, way healthier.
You do not gain weight.
Housecraft, Jeffrey Astin's label,
who hasn't been too,
too active lately, just put out three tapes.
Him, Jeffrey Astin,
the solo C40,
Bottom Feeder, Zephiad Eye,
Split C26,
Manatees.
Manatees?
What were you going to say?
Wasn't that dude hiring an intern?
I think something was going on
where he was going to get an intern type deal.
I think it was someone
who needed a roommate to live in the house
and someone who was going to live there
and their rent would be to assemble all of his stuff
and do all his dubbing and stuff like that.
That's a pretty good deal.
That's a great deal.
I mean, Jesus Christ, for your rent your rent yeah you know what rent costs these days
yeah you don't even need to work at that point right i mean that's your job that's your job
that's it yeah you just everyone else goes to work and you take their food that's how that works
um though if you eat ice cream with a fork yes then you're gonna want to like
use a spoon because uh people will notice the fork marks in eat ice cream with a fork, then you're going to want to use a spoon because people will notice the fork marks in their ice cream.
I used to leave those in there just rubbing your face.
I had an accident who seems to put out a new batch every single time.
And it hasn't sent us anything.
Send us something.
Yeah.
It's about time.
They just put out four new tapes.
Anything else come out?
I feel like I just got a bunch of stuff.
I ordered...
Oh, you know what I ordered the other day?
I ordered Animal Disguises just put out a new tape.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
It's a comp that was assembled from 2005 to 2007 or something like that.
That's the dude from Mammal does that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And I think...
I can't remember, I wish I had it in front of me,
exactly what it was that,
or who it is on the tape.
I think it's like,
I think Mammal's on it.
I think maybe Hivemind is on it.
That sounds about right,
you know, period-wise.
Yeah, I wish I had better whiffies in here.
You said period, I heard that.
Humor.
All this and more can be heard on the Tabs Out podcast.
Who else is on?
I want to say Kites.
Now I'm just making shit up.
Vicky.
Vicky is on it.
That sounds right.
I lost it from that time period.
Paul.
I just wish you could see it.
I wish you could see it.
It would just come up oh here
we go you know what i might have in like a split second which like you know it's about three or
four seconds uh mammal growing hive mind kites panicsville vicky a bunch more it's really it's
a double cassette comp they just put out and it was all the materials from when it's like 2005 to
2007 that's a good snapshot of that time period yeah yeah yeah and there's a bunch more stuff on cassette comp they just put out and it was all the materials from when it's like 2005 to 2007
that's a good snapshot of that time period yeah yeah yeah and there's a bunch more stuff on it
um but yeah that should be coming in so we'll probably play that next something off that
sweet i'm around nice i ordered something else too recently i can't remember what it was
but yeah there's some new stuff um and we also got uh three tapes in the mail
new tapes from Field Studies
out of Chicago
they look really nice
I have a quick sales tape on this label
and it looks just like
it's the same format with
an image on the front
like an awesome detailed image
and like a white border around it
and the white spine with the black type.
No, they look awesome.
But a Panabrai tape.
Brett Nock tape.
And this tape.
Joe Bielow's Nock.
I just noticed that it's Bill Vermetti.
Is that how you say it?
It's Bill with one L.
Okay, I got a problem with that.
Yeah.
I'm not even going to say that.
I don't even know how to say that.
Oh, it's on the floor.
It's Biel.
That's like Beal.
Beal.
Bubblic Image Limited.
But apparently this dude is somebody who was like an artist from like the 70s and 80s.
70s and 80s.
As soon as I opened this tape and it has a little like picture of a setup with like this horrible
like wallpaper in the background that screams like 80s and it says, oh sorry, it says, you
know, studio 1983 and it has all these synths.
I was like, dude, this thing's going to be killer.
Yeah.
Right?
Yeah.
We looked at it.
It has to be good.
He put out a bunch of stuff he on like rainforest
productions in like you know the mid 80s to actually to 2006 but very like you know sporadically
and i guess this is an archive tape of a bunch of his old recordings uh it's called archives one
it's a c40 and none of us have heard anything no no no i haven't heard i'm pretty excited to
get into this one yeah i really like this uh oh god no go ahead i think no i just want to talk
about the same thing yeah the the layout here with the j card yeah the j card on this label
field studies is really nice they're really really. It's legit. It's legit. It's legit. It's legit. Very clean.
There's a lot of labels now
that are doing like,
you know,
lots of white.
I like a lot of white,
you know?
You kind of like crop off.
All right,
John Pyle.
Yeah,
exactly.
Racist.
Okay,
well,
let's play this tape.
Hand me the handbraker.
What have we got here? The only one I didn't like out of this batch was the, the's play this tape. Hand me the handbraker. What have we got here?
The only one I didn't like out of this batch was the Panabrite tape.
Is that what that is?
Yeah.
Not that I don't like it, but not music-wise.
But if you open up the J card, there's that one little panel here,
which I like with this one, which I would...
It's the same size as all the other panels.
What?
No, no, it's not. No, there's this other side one
Oh, okay
Let's see if you can hear it
None of the other ones have
So you don't like this because it has something
The other ones don't have?
Well, I wish they all had it
If you're going to do it, you have to do it on all of them
Yeah, you do
Either way
We'll snap a pic of that
and put it up on the uh tabs out facebook and tell us what you think jb is just mad
make me do more work now
all right so here's uh
vermetti archives one c40 on field studies Thank you. The © BF-WATCH TV 2021 Thank you. © BF-WATCH TV 2021 Thank you. © BF-WATCH TV 2021 Thank you. © BF-WATCH TV 2021 © BF-WATCH TV 2021 All right, so that was the first track from this Bill Vermette tape.
I'm excited to get this home and crack into the rest of it.
That was Beach Scene, 1984.
And it says Beach Scene and Church Scene
are from a short film, 1984.
So...
Makes me wish I really did my research
before I picked the...
Before you picked the Panabrai tape.
I was really excited about getting this Panabrai tape,
but now I...
I just wanted to say that
I think that maybe this might be a...
You think this is bullshit?
I think it might be.
It just sounds so ahead of...
Like, it sounds like...
It definitely sounds like something that would come out on tape label today.
Right, right.
It doesn't necessarily...
Yeah, because the next track...
The second track that we didn't play is from 1978.
That one's called Phase Through Infinite Mediums.
You think they made like is there
a fake short film that somebody made too yeah phase through infinite me that sounds like something
yeah that would come out today i don't know man it sounds like someone come out today because
they're basing it on shit from the 70s yeah but it's like came out like 30 years ago you can tell
i guess 40 years ago right 30 years ago 35 years? 35 years ago? 38 years ago? No, no, there's a lot of weird new agey music
from the 70s, you know, that like
really mirrors what's going on now.
Dave, you're wrong.
You're wrong, Dave. You're stupid.
Alright.
Why don't you drink some more?
Come home at all hours of the night.
Come home?
No, but nothing's real anymore
I can't believe it
Fuck you
Dave let's just play some cassette
And calm down
No
Fuck you
None of this is real
I'm going back down to
McGlinchey's
McGlinchey's
That's the best Oh Dave let's just I'm going back down the McGlincheys. McGlincheys.
That's the best.
Oh.
Dave, let's calm down. We'll listen to this A Snake in the Garden tape.
Who said that's not real?
A snake in the garden tape.
He still loves me, though.
Alright, you want to close it out here close it out a little more
let's close it out
I got this when I was arranging my tapes the other day
and you come across a lot of shit that
you didn't know you had
or you totally forgot you had
and this is one that I
I had no clue I had and I had no clue
it even existed
and I don't remember even listening to it,
but it's a Circuit Wound Pulse Emitter split
on a label called Swampland,
which seems like a pretty interesting split.
I don't remember listening to it,
but I think I'm going to play the Circuit Wound side,
and then probably when you assholes leave
and go back to your pathetic lives
I'll play the pulse meter side. By yourself.
By myself.
You got an all black and white cover. Sounds about right.
With two separate inserts and I was looking
at these inserts a second ago
and I was going to say something but I wanted to
save it so I can mention that
the circuit wound website is a
geocities.com website.
So I think this came out in like 1999.
It's like tripod.com slash circuit with an one for the eyes wound.
Slash tiny town neon.
Yeah, slash Baja487-memberscircuitwound.html.
But yeah, the Circuit Wound, I'm glad I closed this and put everything back before I got the track title. circuit wound dot html um but yeah the circuit wound
I'm glad I closed it
and put everything back
before I got the
uh track title
god my god
you're so stupid
but alright
everything wrong
oh do we want to
um
no
okay nevermind
what no no do it
no I was gonna say
do you want to do
another themed episode
oh I'd like to do
another themed episode
yeah let's do another themed episode if you're um if you want to do another themed episode? Oh, I'd like to do another themed episode. Yeah, let's do another themed episode.
If you want to send in some submissions for themes to play.
So this is episode 13, so 14 will announce the theme,
and then 15 will do the theme.
So yeah, and if you have any themes you want to...
Last time we did, my other band played drill music.
Which was a good one.
Which I had a good time.
I had a fun time, you guys. I had a fun, great time doing good one which i had a good time i had a fun time
you guys doing that one i had a really good time i have some suggestions you know in pink when
people do send it in don't make it super abstract yeah exactly don't send something like you know
i can't think of anything it's not my i can't think of anything either but i remember a couple
fucking stupid like josh and it's like an astronaut's name from like the 60s and it's
like send something like, you know,
that's got like, you could also make a mixtape out of the idea.
Exactly, exactly.
Don't be a fucking asshole about it.
Not super conceptual.
Yeah, exactly.
Like, oh, they're going to love this.
No one else is going to send this in.
Charles Barkley.
Charles Barkley?
Charles Barkley I could work with
actually that's the next name
next time we do it
Charles Barkley
start amassing your tapes
around that
if you did like
the dude from Young Tapes
didn't he put a bunch of tapes under like Joe Montana
and Steve Young and stuff like that oh I don't know actually shit did Young Tapes had. Didn't he have put a bunch of tapes under like Joe Montana and Steve Young and stuff like that?
Oh, I don't know.
Actually, shit,
did Young Tapes stand for Steve Young?
Oh, some of my brains
came out of my ear.
That dude could sneak.
Sports talk football.
All right.
Thanks for listening to episode 13.
We got it through pretty,
nothing bad happened.
Yeah, I didn't drink any beer.
