Hi, this is Raymond Cummings, and you're listening to Tabs Out Cassette Podcast
Episode number 17
17
You know King Tut was wrapped in 17 cloths?
17 different cloths?
17
Dave was looking up ass on the number 17 earlier
He's got a bunch of them
Two in common
He wants it turned into a segment where he just like randomly says
it's gonna be the numbers with dave for 2013 that's a new thing all right every episode
number is gonna give you a factoid about that so that's tonight's factoid or will there be more
throughout the thing i guess you'll just have to listen to find out
oh i'm excited yeah okay i got dave you got me I'm sticking around
Happy New Year
Yeah man that former record
It's real good
Wish it was on tape
Yeah
Somebody get on that
Thanks to Raymond Cummings for the intro there
Very proper intro
Yeah
Sounds like an insurance salesman Thanks to Raymond Cummings for the intro there. Very proper intro. Yeah.
Proper intro.
Sounds like an insurance salesman.
All right.
Who's starting off tonight?
We're going to dig deep into the mailbag tonight, I think.
Mailbag night, right? We've been getting a lot of stuff in the mail and totally ignoring it.
What do you got, Dave?
What's he have?
I got some burners.
Something like John Pyle would bring.
No.
What is that? That's a Que Sera tape.
What are you talking about?
Drowning the Virgin Silence.
Yeah, that's a good one.
There's no
wieners on here.
There's no
rape samples or anything weird.
It's good.
I'll be in charge of that.
You want me to start things off?
Yeah, go ahead and start it off.
All right.
We got a package from Further Records,
which I think they're out of Seattle.
Actually, I think you're right.
Well.
Close.
I'm sure it's windy sometimes.
I'm sure sometimes.
I don't know if it's known for its wind.
It has some other weather, known weather.
The Space Needle.
Yeah, that.
It's got the Space Needle.
Lots of rain.
It rains there?
It rains all the time.
You ever watch Frasier?
Did you ever listen to Nirvana?
Nirvana?
They're not from Seattle.
They were from like...
Well, that's grunge.
That's like the grunge.
Not Olympia.
That's in Washington.
Where were they from?
They were from...
Tacoma.
Melvin's were from Olympiaia they were from fuck what was the name of like the logging town they were from
twin peaks anyway seattle label run by uh chloe harris uh this is a cassette by a project called
pearl river sounds and i'm gonna play the last i think it's the last track on the B side.
I got it queued up.
But Dave, I don't know if you remember this band,
but Joe B, do you remember Team Dresh?
Yeah.
There is...
No, hold on.
I should preface that I really only remember Team Dresh
because of the CR.
Yeah, the CR.
The CR7 is where they cover the song.
I never really listened well
this song one of these tracks on here like i'm listening to it and i'm like god i recognize
that's the song yeah hate the christian right by uh team dress which was also covered by cr
um i'm listening to him like what the fuck is this bass line from it's not the exact bass line
but definitely i remember i i called up d up Dave and I hummed it to him.
He didn't know what it was.
Then I finally remembered what it was.
It's like a mellow MIDI version of Hate the Christian Rite by Team Dresh.
All right.
Yeah, let's get right into it. I don't know too much about Pearl River Sound.
I looked them up on Discogs.
This was the only tape they had up there.
So I'm not really sure too much about them.
Rookies.
Rookies.
Maybe.
All right, so let's get into this.
Episode 17.
And then maybe Dave will have some more fun facts about that number.
Fun facts about the number.
You never know.
All right.
Stay tuned.
Pearl River Sound from the tape Childhood on Further Tapes.
Or Records.
Or whatever.
And he was standing there because he heard they were coming out of the elevators, and so he was giving us a speech on what you do. Per-over sound from the tape Childhood on further tapes. Or records. Or whatever. It was a real inspiration. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I believe that was a track called The World Apart by Pearl River Sound.
That was a good one.
Yeah, do you see what I mean about the Team Dresh?
If you haven't heard Team Dresh,
they were a band from like... Listen to the CR cover first.
Is that on the Millhouse split?
Yeah, on some New York label.
I can't remember now.
All right.
I went back and went through their stuff again.
It doesn't necessarily hold up.
Who, CR?
Yeah.
That song holds up pretty good, uh obviously it's not their song yeah
but the rest of the stuff yeah all right who's next are we going counterclockwise or clockwise
i'm going next i don't care what you have to say i'm fine with it you were making a thing
about it earlier you do whatever you want joe
man this tape over what do we got i going to play a track from the Sacred Phrases Inscriptions Volume 2
Good comp
Double cassette comp
You going on A or B?
I don't know how you say this
Oh that's weird
I think it's just Noomclaw
I don't think you pronounce the E Where me where are we looking where am i looking the fourth track yeah i don't know
i would say um enum claw enum claw enum claw enum claw what do you say dave enum claw enum
claw maybe i think it's not he doesn't care i think it's numblaw we'll figure it out numclaw but yeah this was a good comp
yeah that comp was on the top 25 list
that we did right?
I think so
the second to last track on the last side
the D side sucks though
Dave what's
what is it?
I was going to say it's kind of fucked up
don't worry it's Dave what's, okay. I was going to say, it's kind of fucked up that we're talking. It's Dave. Don't worry, it's Dave.
What's the deal with these comps?
Because this label...
What's the deal?
No, what's the deal with these comps?
Because this label put out, like, Volume 1, and then Volume 2 is all the same people, right?
Yeah, I think it's basically just people that he's, like, done tapes for.
But what I'm saying is,
it's the same,
is it the same lineup on volume?
It's close to the same lineup, I think.
But it's not exactly the same?
No, it's not exactly the same
because he probably had more people
that he did tapes for the second volume.
Okay.
But a sound out light on both of them?
Yeah.
Okay, interesting.
All right.
That's your guitar project, right, Dave?
Yeah, that's his guitar-based project.
Strictly a guitar project.
All right, well, let's play this track off the Sake of Races comp.
Numclaw.
Numclaw.
We'll figure it out while it's playing.
And the track is called Cucks and Soom.
It is.
K-U-X-A-N-S-U-M.
Joe, this is a family program. like i said it is as if anyone
somebody knows like no it's not it's not all right tweeting right now Thank you. © transcript Emily Beynon Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. © BF-WATCH TV 2021 All right. That's all nice to me. I'm having a rosy outlook.
All right.
Anumclaw.
Anumclaw.
That was an Anumclaw track.
I'd like to check out more stuff by them.
Yeah.
It was really good.
I like that.
I like the Sacred Phrases box set.
Inscriptions, volume two.
Volume two.
I tweeted out,
how do you say Anumclaw?
And Rocket Machine Tapes tweeted back,
I think it's pronounced a Noom Claw,
and he just spelled it again.
He just spelled it.
All caps, though.
So we got it, I think.
It clears it up for us.
Thanks for the help there.
When you go to the thesaurus, that's what they do.
They just, you know, or the pronunciation thing.
They just type it again.
He typed it real slow.
Type it real slow.
All right, so thank you. Type it real slow. All right.
So thank you.
Thank you for that.
Hi, David.
Dave's Corner.
It's me's turn?
Me's turn.
All righty.
Let's play this David Carter slash witch family split on Hot Magi.
A Hot Magi.
A Hot Magi?
Yeah, there's an A.
Is that an A or is that like part of the logo?
There's like a triangle thing above their logo.
Yeah, it's like some triangle.
Well, on the insert, if you dug a little deeper.
Well, no, I don't know.
It just says A-Hope Magi Relic.
I'm not too familiar with this label.
They send in a bunch of stuff.
Every tape, they call their tapes relics.
So every tape is a relic.
So their catalog number is relic.
Relic number seven is what this is.
Yeah, they send in like 10 or 11 tapes.
Nice.
So I see you got it queued up here, Dave.
Yeah, make sure it's on the,
you want it on the A side, the screw side.
Let me check out this,
hand me that real quick.
I want to look at that.
I like the font.
I like the, yeah, the artwork.
This is awesome.
Yeah.
What would you call that?
What would you call this effect?
I don't know.
It's kind of got that.
It's got that kind of like the Jupiter vision.
Yeah.
It's like the Jupiter landing scene in Space Odyssey.
Okay.
Yeah.
I do like that font.
That's nice.
Did you ever sync that up with Pink Floyd?
It's intense
Have you really done it?
It really works
Is it side A or side B of metal?
It's echoes
Side B of metal
When 2001
When it says Jupiter
The first ding
Drop the needle
And then boom And then boom you're in
and then it fades out they both fade out
the lyrics go with it
the music changes with the movements
the one part when they're going through
like that like
there's like a colorful like
kaleidoscope type sphere
they're going through and all of a sudden
Echo gets like really jammy
turns into like Windows Media Player.
Yeah, it does.
It's crazy.
It's so intense.
It's crazy.
Really works.
All right.
So what are we,
are we playing the David Carter side?
Is that what you're doing?
All right.
I think the witch family is like,
apparently, I think.
Is that an actual witch family?
Yes, it is.
Ooh.
No, it's some other dude.
I think his name is,
God damn it,
something Harris.
I'll look it up after we play.
John Harris.
Scott Harris.
Frank Harris.
Jim.
It's like a common name.
That's one of those rich words.
Tom.
Bob.
Bill.
Joe.
He, uh...
It's the witch family.
He, uh...
He, uh...
He, uh...
He, uh...
That's not a common name.
The B side is just remixes of the A side. Oh, right on. That the witch family did. Yeah. That's not a common name. The B side is just remixes of the A side.
Oh, right on.
That the witch family did.
Nice.
All right.
So here is some David Carter off of a split with the witch family.
You're in for a treat.
In for a treat.
Someone say the name of the label.
Hot Magi.
Hot Magji. Oh Thank you. The Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. David Carter.
That was a burner.
That was.
When that dropped in there.
That took a minute.
Yeah, but that's what makes it so good.
Yeah.
Makes you wait for it.
High tension.
That was good.
I'd like to listen to the rest of that tape.
Yeah, that's good.
Yeah, that was fun.
I haven't even gotten to the B-side yet.
Haven't gotten that far. haven't gotten that far remix
the remix the remix the term remix always puts me off i've never i can't think of one like remix
that i've liked better than no that's not true take it back you're taking it back there was a
bjork cd that was all remixes and there's some good songs on there. Yeah. That I heard first and then heard the real songs,
and was kind of like, eh.
Yeah.
I have a Massive Attack CD that's remixed by Matt Professor.
That's pretty good.
Oh, yeah.
That's a weird one.
Yeah.
You would think it would be the other way around.
Yeah.
You would think it would be Massive Attack remixing Matt Professor.
You're right.
Yeah, here we are. Here we are. It's like all dubbed out versions of Massive Attack remixing Mad Professor. You're right. Yet here we are.
Here we are.
It's like all dubbed out versions of Massive Attack.
All right.
I got a tape I'm going to play by Jay Zaggers, or maybe Zaggers.
I don't know how to say his name.
His name is Jeff Zaggers.
Jeff Zaggers.
It's a tape, Key Conduction, released by conduction released by human conduct i think i'm not sure
but i think this guy do you remember that show in delaware where there was like um noah anthony
uh and lazy magnet and another dude no i didn't go to that three way collab thing called gillette oh i was there for that i think this was the third dude okay
and i think me dave you and i played like that micro show in philly one time i don't like lazy
magnet i know you don't um you don't like anyone um remember that micro show that we played In Johnny's Z Radio
Fun Dude's Backyard
Remember the guy
I think he had like a saxophone
He played as well
If you don't remember this one
And a bass guitar too
Well no but
I think this may be him
Or maybe it's someone completely different
I don't know
Either him or somebody else
Got this tape here Gonna give it a play Or maybe it's someone completely different. I don't know. Either him or somebody else.
Got this tape here.
Gonna give it a play.
Nobody can hear you when you're not talking in your microphone.
Can you hear me now?
Yes.
You can hear me a little bit when I back up.
I've listened to the show and you can hear me a little bit.
That's annoying.
Yeah, it's really annoying.
You gotta turn your volume up and down.
Come on.
In post?
You're not fucking with anything. Have you heard?
Dave's not fucking with anything in post.
I think we all know that. I like the way that his writing goes from from the left it's the letters are big and then they slowly get small yeah and it's like at an angle yeah yeah i don't know if
that's the human conduct or the uh it's the anthrax mailer oh and first of all maybe i have to move
away from the microphone because like i have i'm playing all the tapes we're still talking about because I'm playing all the tapes here. We're still talking about that?
You're playing all the tapes here?
Yeah, you're sitting here like-
I already played one.
No, I mean, I'm manning the cassette deck.
That's your choice.
That's your choice, yeah.
Sorry.
Not if you could do it.
Sorry, I got the seat with nothing to do.
You literally have no accessories besides that microphone.
And my phone.
The internet.
All right.
By the way, that's under your hand.
You don't need to move your- His hands are weird your hand. You don't need to move your mouth.
Look how far away you're moving to do that.
I like to lean way back.
I don't like to lean.
Way back.
I'm worried about the...
What do you get from electronics?
AIDS.
Let's play this Jeff Zegers tape.
Here it is.

Jay Zegers off of a tape on human conduct called Key Conduction.
That was like a jam.
That was an eclectic burner.
Yeah, it went through so many different things.
Yeah, it did.
It's like Mr. Bungle's Michael Baldwin.
It was Mr. Bungle's Michael Baldwin. I like the paper that this is printed on.
It's like a really weird, thick,
but also like a weird see-through kind of thing
but look at this fold it's kind of like what your mom wore last night
the fold on this j card for some reason the second panel is like fold it in half
and then fold it again we'll not get into all that the j layout but look it's because it's a
little bit longer it's a little bit longer than your average panel.
So you've got to tuck it in.
You've got to tuck it in.
But when you put it in the case...
One tuck, one no tuck.
When you put it in the case, that fold...
Like, take the tape out.
Okay.
Put the J-Card in the case.
Like this?
Yeah, just like that.
Like a standard put-in?
And where this ends, that starts.
Oh, where that ends,
the back of the little fold-over on the Norelco starts.
Oh that's cool okay. Either way that was that was a sick tape. I'm gonna have to
get through all that at some point. Alright B what do you got? Oh it's me?
It's you remember we're going counterclockwise. I'm gonna do this Mark Bradley tape. Mark Bradley
no mind meditation split. Another one off the list.
This tape's good, man.
The top 25 list.
I think you have to rewind it.
Mark Bradley side.
We'll just play something from the A side, Mark Bradley side.
Nice.
But, yeah, this tape's really good.
Yeah, this is a burner.
All the design stuff is really good.
Yeah, Gold Timer's always... It was almost.
Rewound all the way, yeah. Gold Timer shit always looks really good. Yeah, Gold Timer's always... It was almost. Rewound all the way, yeah.
Gold Timer shit always looks really good.
I like this.
It's like a light blue see-through shell, the cassette,
and it's got like silver foil inside
and then white printing on top of that.
Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen that combination.
No, I don't think I've ever seen...
I've seen the silver... I've seen the silver liners. You've seen silver in blue? No, not the silver in blue. No, I don't think I've ever seen... I've seen the silver...
You've seen silver in blue?
No, I've never seen them in blue.
That's awesome.
Gold timer's number 22.
I think you can still get this one.
Is gold timer still active? Did we talk about that before?
We talked about it. I think every time we pull out a gold timer's tape,
we ask if they're still doing stuff.
I don't know. I haven't heard anything in a while.
It'd be a shame if they're not.
It'd be a goddamn shame.
Goddamn shame.
All right, well, let's play a little bit.
That's a nice text treatment.
Is that what they call it?
Is that a biz term?
Did you learn that at DECAD?
Oh, I like the picture on the inside of his shit card.
It's better at night.
It's better at night.
When he was going to art school for his, not a diploma, but like a certificate.
Certificate.
You have to pay extra for real credits.
I'm sorry, Mike.
What do you do for a living?
Mark Bradley.
Mark Bradley.
No money.
No money. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I'm sorry. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I love a shrimp.
Shrimp boat. We're back. A shrimp boat would be great. Shrimp boat.
We're back.
A shrimp boat would be great.
A shrimp boat would be so good.
With the dipping sauce.
You're not eating shrimp in my house.
I can't eat shrimp in your house.
You're going to leave shells everywhere.
Yeah.
And I don't want my house to smell like shrimp.
It dissipates rather fast.
It's a scientific fact.
That was Mark Bradley from the No Mind Meditation Split.
That was a pretty good track.
Really good. Yeah.
It may have been two tracks or so.
It was solid stuff.
Into it. Good stuff.
David.
I'm going to do this tape by The Hold.
The period hold. Like vertical hold.
Like on old TVs.
Vertical hold, I think.
What's that mean?
Like the tracking, kind of.
Oh, I forgot about tracking.
I never really understood what that meant.
Tracking?
I don't understand why it's called tracking.
I just clicked it until the picture was stabilized.
Right.
But why would you have to do anything?
That's the updated version of tracking.
You used to have to dial it in on the old VCRs, like manually.
You didn't just hold a button and then it fixed it.
Oh, all right.
I didn't know you could just hold a button and fix it.
Well, vertical.
That was like the, you know.
Hand me the tape.
In between VHS and DVDs.
Beta didn't last.
Oh, this is on further as well.
Yeah. This is two dudes from Philly, actually. Oh, this is on Further as well. Yeah.
This is two dudes from Philly, actually.
Oh, yeah?
Yeah.
Oh, no, I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
It's one dude from a project, a duo based in Philly.
I see it's mastered by Alex Nagel.
I know who that guy is.
Who's Alex Nagel?
He's just some dude in Philly.
Oh.
Philadelphia.
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
City of Kings. Brotherly love. Oh. Philadelphia. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
City of Kings.
Brotherly love.
Oh.
The Windy City.
The Windy City.
The Windy City.
It's windy there.
Yeah, it gets a little windy there.
What does that cover?
It's just black, huh?
Is there anything on there?
Well, I'm glad you...
Oh, wait a minute.
Is it purple?
Yeah, that's a color.
Ooh, wait a minute.
You kind of like...
If you hold up to the light... Oh, wait, that's my finger. Oh, wait a minute. You kind of like, if you hold up to the light.
Oh, wait, that's my finger.
There's something on there.
There's a bunch of lines on there, right?
Yeah, there's something there.
Yeah.
If you look at the cassette shell, now hold that up to the light.
The cassette shell?
I'm looking at just a black cassette shell here.
Hold it up to the light.
You've got to tilt it in the light, right?
Correctly.
Oh, wow, that's nice. Let me see, because you're holding it down, not in the light. You gotta tilt it in the light, right? Correctly. Oh, wow, that's nice.
Let me see, because you're holding it down, not in the light.
Well, I'm doing it for my angle.
It just looks like a black...
I'm glad you said something, because if I got this tape,
I would have wrote something on it over top of that.
If you shine it just right, there's like...
And it's not even like black imprinting on there.
It's like, I don't know.
They have a track name that is their band name. Yeah that out track three is v hold by v hold yeah oh what is that yeah like
if you hold it just right you get a little reflection you don't think that's black uh
i guess it is yeah it just doesn't come across as that when you like do it when you like shine
in the light yeah i. I liked it.
No, this is all together.
Yeah, this is very well put together.
So this is another mailbag, Jim.
Yeah.
Thanks to Further Records for hooking up some.
Joby, you got one too, right?
I think they sent over three tapes, and we divided them evenly.
Or maybe yours is still downstairs.
Yeah.
Yeah, I don't remember.
I don't remember anything looking like this.
Well, they don't all look like that.
Well, I mean, even with the spines.
Spines don't look like that?
No, they're all different.
Oh, okay.
We'll figure it out while we play something off of V-Hold.
Yeah, we're just going to do the first two cuts or whatever.
First two jams.
Yeah.
Whole thing's good.
We'll just start from the beginning.
Here it is. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. V-Hold.
V-Hold.
Good jams.
Yeah.
All in all, a very solid tape.
Yeah.
I like it.
Yeah.
I'm digging further records.
I was looking over their discography, and I noticed a few things.
They put out a shitload of stuff.
I noticed the North Sea, they put out something shitload of stuff. I noticed the North Sea,
they put out something by
somebody else.
I can't remember who now off the top of my head
but I'd like to dig into that.
All right, I'm going to play this tape
that we got in the mail
from House of Sun.
We played that Zviadai tape.
Yeah.
House of Sun.
They're putting this tape out,
this Grant Evans tape who
is half of which McCall to tune to tune Joby you played that half of Grant
Evans is half of concessionaries is that Grant Evans no Grant Evans does hooker
vision with Rachel Evans,
and their project is called Quiet Evenings.
Jesus Christ.
That's the first track off the... Who's Concessionaries?
I don't remember.
That is a...
I don't know.
Got a little brain fart there.
This comes in like those...
These packs have names.
It's like this die cut cardboard.
They're called Brad packs.
Yeah.
Pack that holds like the tape inside.
Yeah.
It's really nice.
Now I have a, I have a beef.
I want to get out about this.
About that.
Well, I'm going to hand it to you, Joe, because you haven't seen it yet.
Dave's seen it.
Okay.
Let me hand like this amazing die cut package that houses this cassette.
Like, uh, this, uh, it's a prison cassette and he seemed to us
he carved in grant evans dragging alabaster into it well let's not even get into that
i'm gonna hand you this the case let's check out the spine like the printing on the okay if you're going to go all out with don't get a um you know a cd-rom from 1995
with free clip art on it and then blow it up to five times yeah the resolution like on this is
really bad like the name like this on the spine yeah like it's really like this oh there's like
a picture of a house on the back, like a woodcut type thing.
I like that.
No, that's good, too.
But the front and the spine are just like... And the argyle.
Yeah, it's really...
I don't mind that, either.
It's really pixelated.
Yeah, that's pretty pixelated.
I like this on the inside.
Well, that, I think, is from the printers.
Oh, yeah.
The Brad Pack Stumptown.
You're right.
Oh, Stumptown.
Yeah.
I know Stumptown. Stumptown,, Stumptown. I know Stumptown.
Stumptown, yeah.
So that's not like a custom case.
They actually make...
Yeah, this is a thing that they make.
This episode of Tabs Out brought to you by...
By Stumptown.
Makers of the Brad Pack.
Now a new color,
true black.
You ever hear
the Herman Miller
Air Run Chair commercials
on NPR?
And they talk about
how it's now available
in the new color,
true black,
and they've been saying that
for like 12 years now.
They really need to update
that commercial.
But yeah,
the case is pretty incredible.
But like,
you got a
300 DPI minimum.
Minimum.
Minimum.
That's what you do when you play.
All right, but House of Sun Canadian Label is putting out this
Grant Evans tape sometime this month,
and we're going to play a little bit of it right here.
Dave, do you want to go to Mickey Motos?
What time is it?
It's 1130.
They're not open.
Not open?
I don't think so.
They're a bar.
They're a bar. Are you going to be able to get... 1130. They're not open. Not open? They're a bar. They're a bar.
Are you going to be able to get...
Stay focused.
Stay focused, gentlemen.
I don't want to get Saturday night sushi at 1130.
Let's stay focused here.
These guys have been trying to get seafood for the past hour and a half.
I don't think it's happening.
Just give up on the stream.
All right.
Grant Evans.
Just with that oyster stout?
Yeah.
Dragging alabaster tape on house of sun Thank you. so Thank you. I'm going to go ahead and turn it off. Thank you. The The The The The The The Thank you. The Thank you. Thank you. The Thank you. I'm going to go ahead and turn it off. Thank you. Thank you. Grand Evans.
Why didn't I think about this?
It's so long.
Joby is going to recline, ladies and gentlemen.
Are you seriously going to do that?
Yeah, what's wrong with this?
There's nothing wrong with that.
No, I guess that's fine.
With this chair, it takes so much effort to be regular.
To, like, sit up.
To sit up, it, like, hurts my body.
But this is perfect.
Joby took his mic out of his stand.
He's reclining.
You do look comfortable. For He's reclining. Yeah.
You do look comfortable.
For all our blind listeners.
Maybe.
Let me get.
All of our blind listeners.
Well, you can probably watch this on YouTube somewhere.
Well, out of 1,000 downloads.
Did you say blind listeners?
It's got to be at least three.
Three?
Wow.
I would have said maybe one.
You think, okay, so one out of every thousand people is blind?
No, one out of every thousand people that listens to... I don't know the stats on maybe one out of a thousand people are blind.
I don't know.
I thought it would be more.
Well, what are we talking about?
Legally blind?
Partially blind? Because you get a lot of those people who say they're blind, well what are we talking about legally blind partially blind
because you get a lot of those people who say they're blind but they can still see a little bit
and it's like nah don't give me a call when you got like the dog and yeah this is nothing there's
nothing just like yeah back in my day if you were blind yeah you were blind there were no shapes yeah no color yeah no sense of
light dark dark nothing yeah and then you hear there was a sense of dark
don't give yeah trust me there was a sense of dark it was called life
yeah but nowadays you hear something about like a blind person climbing a mountain.
And then you find out that they can sort of sing.
Yeah, who cares?
Wow. Wow. We took a turn
A turn for the worst
But that Grand Evans tape should be out soon
House of Sun
Alright
Here's my question
Joe it's your turn to play tape
How are you going to
Are you going to be
Use your feet.
I got a cramp in my toe.
Well, I'll play something from the mailbag.
You don't have to rewind this, though.
This is in my car.
This is a permanent bedhead tape.
Off of, uh...
I don't even know what label it is.
Oh, cave recordings?
Yeah.
Oh, this is a cave tape.
It's a cave tape.
I always see this label online.
And he sent us four copies.
Yeah, we each have one.
So we should have some sort of way that we can give one away.
If you can tell us how many the percentage of blind people there are in America or in the world.
Well, not a percentage.
I want a X per X.
A percentage?
Per capita? Well, percentage makes 75%.
No, I want like one in every 300 people is blind.
I want it like that.
I don't know what that's called.
I mean, you can just convert that to a percentage, though.
But I want it like that.
Well, how can you convert that to a percentage?
If you say 75%, tell me how many.
You could say one in 75 out of every 100.
But I want like a weird number, like one in every 100,000.
I don't want just a percentage.
That's lame.
All right, who does this project?
This project's done by like Scott Johnson, right?
Is that his name?
Don't drink that because you have a cold.
Maybe.
Did he do Cloud Valley or Maggot Valley
what label did he do
yeah Scott Johnson
yeah
and he's done a bunch of
he used to do hunting rituals
that was a project he did
oh was he in hunting rituals
yeah
what else did he do
I'm trying to pull up his Discogs page right now
well this is
thoughtsonair777.blogspot.com.
Is thoughtsonair a label?
A label or a project?
I feel like I've definitely heard that name before.
Yeah, I have too.
Thoughts on Air is a project.
A project.
Okay.
But he may have also done, maybe he didn't do hunting rituals.
I'm pulling it up right now.
Hunting rituals, lonely flight uh i think permanent
bedhead might be permanent bedhead might be a thoughts on air that might be related to the
thoughts on air just because there's a thoughts on air dot blog spot and then a cave recordings
dot blog spot and the liner notes okay yeah scott johnson who does the project permanent bedhead
also has done or does hunting rituals and thoughts on air.
Are we going to play that Twins tape tonight?
Yeah, I'm going to get to that a little bit later.
That's a special one.
That's a closer.
But yeah, get in touch with us.
Put something on Facebook about how many blind people you know, and we'll send you a copy of the...
How many blind people you know?
Whatever, man.
Something about blind people. the uh blind people you know whatever man it's something about blind people anything about blind people may a funny cartoon from the 40s
like a mr magoo comic strip was mr magoo blind no he just was squinting all the time no he wasn't
legally well he might have been legally he was always getting saved though like he would go to
walk out of like a door but it'd be a window. But then a construction beam would come by, and he'd always make it.
We don't see construction beams too much anymore.
No.
Well, you know, American jobs.
All right.
So let's play a little bit of this.
You said it was on cave tapes, cave recordings.
All right.
Here is a clip of the permanent bedhead tape on Cave Recordings called...
The name is...
I don't know what the name is.
I thought it could be really slick and get it in that little bit of time, but I didn't.
But it's on Cave Recordings, and here it is.
You don't know how to talk up a record. ¶¶

You sound so sure.
What if they sold out immediately?
We have one extra.
Yeah, so, you know.
If you're blind
and you want to copy,
just email us.
Somehow get on the computer.
Just figure out
how to use email.
Well, virtual reality.
Lawmower man.
If you're a lawmower man
and you want to copy this.
All right, you want to
talk about some new releases?
Yeah, what do we got?
I actually got an email
like an hour ago
from K-Sara.
Hot off the presses. Hot off the presses.
Hot off the presses here.
Thickly painted walls, C31.
Foot and mouth disease, C40.
New Emgedis Genghis, C35.
Creation VI, is that VI?
Is that VI?

Label Mantle just put out five new tapes by Bird, spelled B-U-R-D,
so it's not like the bird that flies overhead.
Fossils.
Kayaka.
Broodmaw.
Spoils and Relics.
New Dog Lady Island.
I know you hate that name, Joby
Yeah, I don't like that name
Mike Colino, who does that project
also does the label Alien Passengers
I don't like the name Dog Lady either
No, I like Dog Lady
I don't really have any kind of thoughts
on Dog Lady Island
But a tape called 1938, a C-29
on Alien Passengers
The label
Rayno just put out
How do you say D-S-I-C
I don't think you can say that
You can't say that
Or like a portal opens and the whole city gets sucked in
Sick
Put your tongue up against your teeth
Sick
You know who just put out a new tape?
Who?
Different Lands.
B. Douglas.
Oh, what?
Oh, yeah?
Recently?
Yeah.
Like a week ago.
He puts them out kind of slow.
Yeah, he put out a tape by the Zero Map.
Didn't you do?
Oh, you did Zero Map.
I think it was a split with you, Joe.
Oh, yeah.
Wasn't it?
Yeah, it was.
It sure was. He did a C21. Oh, that, yeah. I think it was a split with you, Joe. Oh, yeah. Wasn't it? Yeah, it was. Right? Yeah.
It sure was.
He did a C21.
Well, that's pretty cool.
And so I always like seeing the different lenses.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And it's always cool to see the whole deal.
He does those spray-painted Norelco cases.
Yeah, he spray-paints the Norelco cases.
And I thought that they were white Norelco cases until Mike pointed it out on a past podcast.
For those who listen in reverse order.
Yeah.
I got an email from someone who says they've been
listening to these in reverse order.
That's so amazing.
I wonder what they do now.
If they're up to
11, they go, shit, they're 17.
Then they do 17 and they go back to listen to them again.
I think Housecraft just put out some stuff.
My Wi-Fi's are really slow.
But I feel like I got an update the other day about Housecraft
put out some new tapes.
I just grabbed this.
Let me find it here.
This tape on...
It's on the front.
Dog Days tapes put out a tape by a project called twins
now the let me talk a little we need to take a picture of this too yeah yeah we'll take well
i think i already did i think i already but like this it's the cover of the movie twins with
arnold schnauzer and dan dibito it's not just the cover like they made like the little box so it's
like it looks like a little vhs box and it Twins on the side and the little VHS logo the synopsis on the back
everything like it's actual VHS
and then when you slide the Noroco out
the cover of the Noroco
looks like a VHS tape
oh man
we'll play this a little bit later
actually I might play this on my next jam
it's so good
well I don't know if it's on tape but the cover
the insert and everything yeah I saw this cover did you did you look at the track names no i
haven't gotten that far yeah one is called cgi friday oh that's amazing yeah because these dudes
i think it's either one of them or both of them do that label cgi fridays yeah cgi friday however
you say it who um i'm just getting into like a deep dark hole with all that stuff when i picked up that um what was it what was the name of that project that was on cgi friday um run dmt run dmt
i picked up that and then like yeah like i could go deep into this i think i'm thinking i'm gonna
journey deep into that world um and my favorite thing about this tape is the fact that like it's
got like this fucking you know it's like a slip over it's like tape is the fact that like it's got like this fucking
you know it's like a slip over it's like the slip over like twins case it's like you know
this is all hilarious and it's like funny it's like haha but then it's pro-dub which is like
they actually how did they get away with that well i mean i just can't believe they went through
with the fact that like they actually pro-dubbed this tape. Pro-dubbed these tapes. This wasn't dubbed online.
We made a hundred of these.
Yeah.
That's so great.
We'll get to that in a little.
I'm going to do that one next.
Should I just do it now, and then you can go after me, Dave?
Just do it now.
Just do it now.
Let's do the twins tape.
All right.
Yeah, yeah.
Let's do the twins tape.
I wish I had it queued up to something, because I like to play that CGR Friday track.
Okay.
Okay. Maybe we will get to CGR Friday, because it that CGI Friday track. Okay. Okay, maybe we will get to CGI Friday
because it's the second track.
But first, let's play off side one,
side Arnie.
There's side Arnie and side DeVito.
We'll play the first track.
Let's get quacking.
And then maybe we'll get into the second track,
CGI Friday.
There's also a track called wayne's world
that's that's a curveball yes and there's what else is on here night court buchinski tango and
cash this is amazing all right but here is something from the twins tape on dog days Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, Thank you. © BF-WATCH TV 2021 Thank you. Thank you. Oh, God, I want to hear that song.
Twins.
Twins.
What the fuck was that, man?
I don't know.
It was awesome.
With What's Quackin' and CGI Friday and a little teaser.
Of Weird Science.
Of Weird Science.
That was like if you were playing the DuckTales game for Game Boy.
Yeah.
Or NES.
That's the soundtrack.
That's the soundtrack for it the whole time.
I'm just envisioning like...
I can't believe people are making this.
I don't know if anyone's really making it.
I feel like they took another tape and they just ran it through. they just like ran it well someone made it someone made yeah you're right
someone made it that was kind of kind of blown away it was kind of incredible i loved it yeah
it was four stars all right was that a mailbag no i ordered that tape like intellect i didn't
even think about it as soon as i saw the cover i would have been like
you had an idea to do a roped off tape with the exact same idea yeah me and dave were gonna do
a roped off tape where i was dandy devito and he was learning schwarzenegger nice i was like
leaning on him um as soon as i saw the cover i didn't even listen to it i just ordered it
and then i went back and read the description and it said something about CGI Friday. I was like, oh, that's perfect.
It was perfect.
But yeah, it's a solid one.
I'm glad it exists.
Pretty good.
All right, who wants to go?
J.B., you got?
I'm out.
You're out?
All right.
I know.
I thought we were doing mailbag stuff.
Indeed.
We haven't played any No Dolby on this podcast. No, I don't think so. I don't know. I don't think so. I've got a good bit of No Dolby stuff. Indeed. We haven't played any No Dolby on this podcast. No, I don't
think so. I don't know. I don't think so.
I've got a good bit of No Dolby stuff.
Mike, you probably got a good bit floating around too.
Yeah, I have a bunch of stuff.
He's an Italian. Oh, Italian?
Italian.
Italian.
This is on...
I always get
Field Hymns and Field Studies mixed up.
Me too, yeah. Field Hymns. I don't really get a mix-up. Field Hymns and Field Studies mixed up. Me too, yeah.
Field Hymns.
I don't really get a mix-up.
Field Hymns has a snake.
Field Hymns has a snake.
What are you over there jabbing about?
Hmm?
What?
What?
What's going on?
Field Hymns.
This is not the looks of that tape.
Yeah, it looks like a road cone.
Yeah.
I like the cover.
You don't drive through this.
Turn around.
It's not safe.
Turn around.
Soft shoulders.
Let me see that because that cover is pretty incredible.
I like the...
Bunch of lines.
Bunch of wavy lines.
A couple wavy lines.
A couple wavy lines.
No, this is all some artwork.
Oh, this is...
I didn't know this was on...
I have this, but I didn't know it was on...
Field Studies or Field Hymns?
Field Hymns.
Which one's the snake?
Field Hymns. Which one's the snake?
Field hymns.
Wait, did they write that?
Which is confusing because... Well, I guess that's the way they have to do it.
See, I would make the association field studies snake,
but it's the other way around.
Two S's.
Field hymns snake.
But they both end like that, so that doesn't work either.
There's a little piece of broccoli, Rob.
I love this... Where'd you find of broccoli, Rob. I love this.
Where did you find that broccoli, Rob?
Right here.
Where'd you go on homesick?
Bitter.
I was forced to make everyone a little
midnight snack.
There should be
hot food on the table.
It should be a buffet.
I like this red shell with the black printing on it.
That looks really nice.
You call that red, huh?
You wouldn't call that red?
I'd call that a standard red.
Hard tangerine.
You've got to be kidding me.
No, that's red.
That's a stop sign.
Yeah, it's red.
That's not a stop sign.
That's stop sign red.
No.
That's too orange.
That's not quite a stop sign. That's stop sign red. No. Yeah, it's too orange. Yeah, it's not quite a stop sign.
The cover is orange.
Yeah, but I'm saying that red is too orange to be.
Here's something red. There's something red.
Here.
Here's red right here.
Right there.
This RCA plug.
RCA plug.
Yeah.
Would you say that's red?
It's still orange.
I have a Noroco.
It's still orangey red.
That's red, too.
Give me something I can hold.
That's red. This is red. Right here. Hold it up to this. Hold it to orangey red. That's right, too. Give me something I can hold. That's red.
Right here.
Hold it up to this.
Hold it up to Dave's shirt.
That's right on Dave's shirt, right?
Look at that.
See?
Look at the deepness.
Look at the deepness in that red.
I'm not seeing any difference.
Well, I might be colorblind.
That's a whole different one.
Same red.
Nope.
You saw the tape disappear.
It's like you can't tell where the shirt starts.
Dave's apparently holding the tape up to his shirt,
but I can't see anything.
Hand it over.
I had a colorblind test on my phone.
Okay.
Because I used to work with him,
I just didn't believe him.
You don't want to be a fighter.
What's the number?
He's colorblind, turned out.
Turned out I'm the dick.
Okay, well, I'm going to...
Oh, shit.
Are you serious?
Yeah.
I could have told you that.
All right, well well let's play
a little bit of this
Noel Dolby
how do you say Noel Dolby
Noel Dolby
like Dolby
Inception
slash Aftermath
Inception's on side A
Aftermath's on side B
and we are playing
side B
so we are playing
a little bit
we're playing side A
we're playing side A
then maybe you should
rewound side A
oh wait
there's no screw
on this tape
yeah so you play the fucking rewound side A. Oh wait, there's no screw on this tape.
Yeah, so you play the fucking rewound side.
Booyah, shut up. Here's no Dolby. Jesus Christ. Thank you. © transcript Emily Beynon Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. All right, let's go.
We're back.
No Dolby.
No Dolby.
Good jam.
I feel like that is definitely the second time we came back from a tape
Dave said what it was
You repeated it and I said good jam
That's way different
I was telling
We were talking
That's way different from every
Yeah absolutely
Way jamier
Way synthier
Alright
You ready to go out with
a final jam?
Because Joby's about to die, I think.
Yeah.
Wow.
Yeah, alright. Yeah, we can go out.
It's been like two hours now. Two hours.
We're ready to go. Standard show? Yeah.
That's your standard cast. You've had your fill.
This is all we got.
Get back to work. We'll see you next month.
Joby. Huh? you've had your fill this is all we got get back to work we'll see you next month joe b huh all right i got the this is the uh total fucking depression double cassette comp that
recently somewhat recently came out on animal disguise they're back the back um comes in one
of those poly or not poly cases what are these called like the
vinyl cases like a black vinyl box with like a line drawing on the front that's just that
it says tfd and like a typewriter found on the top and then underneath of a picture of a shitty skull
handwritten says shitty skull uh but it's definitely, you know,
I think all the tracks were assembled over like in 2001.
Before, right?
Yeah, old.
So it's like, you know, Growing and Vicky,
Charlie Drayheim, Kites, Hive Mind, Red Rot, Panicsville.
Definitely stuff.
A blast from the past.
A blast from the past.
What are you going to play?
Does Growing still do anything?
I don't think so.
At least I haven't heard anything.
No, I haven't heard anything in a while.
I saw them open for somebody in Philly and it was all beet-oriented.
Yeah.
Not good.
Not good.
Like bad.
Oh, weird.
As far as...
Yeah, the last time I saw them they were starting to go that way.
Yeah, I like this comes with like an 11 by 17.
Actually, that's a weird size.
What is that?
That's like a 10 by 9.
Like black and white sheet wherever every artist gets.
You got really excited.
Well, I like weird size paper, dude.
He likes to guess the sizes of paper, too.
I do another podcast alone called Weird
Size Paper.
This is like 7 by 20.
Welcome to episode 4 of Weird Size Paper.
I'm going to say this one is
4 by 7 and a quarter.
Manila card stock.
Take a ruler.
4 by 7 and a 16.
Your whole podcast could be made irrelevant by a ruler.
Well, he measures them on...
Dave, the guessing is the fun.
The guessing is the fun, then he measures it and it's his...
I mean, every episode of Jeopardy!
could be made irrelevant by just telling
the answers.
It's the quest.
No, I got four other guys here.
You don't know them.
I got guys here
who work down at the Ruler Factory.
I bring in some Canadians every once in a while.
We do a metric episode.
Do you like your lifelines?
Because of the Ruler Factory?
Yeah.
That's how it got started.
Oh, man.
Show B, keep your germs out of here.
Jesus. I also like how the tapes are keep your germs out of here. Jesus.
I also like how the tapes are like the white shells with like this weird color.
I don't know what color that is.
That is, I think it's Sandy Dawn.
Right?
Yeah.
It's like a tan.
But, all right, I'm going to play the mammal track.
Joe, what's that say?
What's the name of that mammal track?
Medullary Sponge. Medullary sponge.
Medullary sponge.
What's a medullary sponge?
Is that from Seinfeld?
Medullary sponge?
Why are you just handing Dave shit?
I've been trying to find it.
I think that's yours, Mike.
Thanks.
All right.
Thanks for listening.
Episode 17.
You know,
it takes 17 muscles
to make a smile.
And we hope you use
all 17
of those muscles tonight.
All right.
Tabs out.
Thanks for listening.
Peace.
Mammal. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I'm sorry. Thank you. Thank you. so
so Thank you. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Thank you.
