Starting point is 00:00:00 Do you and your college friends enjoy underground video and audio tapes tabs out cassette podcast oh i forgot i was gonna let you do it jamie go ahead tabs out cassette podcast episode 176 very good i i threw it over to you because i couldn't remember the episode number okay i did the cassette podcast thing this time too you did what last time i did i forgot to say cassette podcast yeah you fucked up big time last time well let's not talk about everyone they heard the laugh and they know what's going on a big welcome back whoops wrong one to joe b hey hey hey what's going on joe b hey what up love seeing you back i know glad to be back i know i see you brought some tapes with you got a couple couple tapes. So you didn't forget to do that?
Starting point is 00:01:06 Nope. Very good. So you still know how to do this? I think so. We'll see. We've got a lot of tapes on this table. I see there's this orange milk batch here. Jamie, what the hell's going on here? Are they sending them to you now? Seth sends them directly
Starting point is 00:01:21 to my house now. Wow. I got a big maroon. I got a huge... Maroon. I got a big... Maroon. I got a huge problem with that. I'm sorry, I can't stop this. Maybe it's cheaper shipping to send to Jamie's house. Do you think JB is a little bit closer to them?
Starting point is 00:01:36 Yeah. Well, joke's on them because they didn't put anything on these. They forgot to put the logo on the spines. On three spines. On three of them. They did a big biff. I know. They did a huge fail over here. What are these you know are you playing any should we even talk about them
Starting point is 00:01:49 i i actually didn't plan on playing any of them okay never mind maybe next week well maybe maybe we'll see well what do you want to play this week you want to start it off or should we let joe be you know what we should let you start it off it is only fair all right it's only right i'll fucking do it should we all right i'll start off is this his theme music i wanted to bring it back something grandiose for joe b i'll start with this ball bills tape ball bills a smashing adventure a smack oh this is that Bills tape. Ball Bills. A Smashing Adventure. A Smas... Oh, this is that fucking adventure shit you got. Well, you got two on this label, right?
Starting point is 00:02:29 I got two on this label, but I won't play a double... Two at a time. Two strips of bacon? Two strips of bacon, yeah. Okay, you're just gonna do the one this time? The one, yeah. And who is this? Balbus?
Starting point is 00:02:41 Balbus. B-U-L-B-I-L-S. Okay. On... I can't... how do you say it? Highmat Day Catastrophe? I was really hoping you were going to come with that information. Yeah, I think that's how you say it. It's like, it's an Italian label?
Starting point is 00:02:54 It's an Italian label. They're one of my faves recently. Yeah? Yeah. I don't have any physicals, but I've been checking. They got so many releases. I think they're all free downloads. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:01 Yeah, yeah. They sell out like right away usually usually so it was hard for me or not hard for me but it was lucky that i got these too it was kind of hard though i think too right it was hard too you had to yeah i'm assuming they make you go online oh it's more of like a uh like a concert in the 90s i was i was assuming it was the situation was going to be like you'd have to go on an adventure because this is like a fantastical label with dragons. Yeah, and then they also do some retro synth stuff too. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:31 Yeah. This is Sally... Pilkington and Richard Dawson. Richard Dawson? Yeah. Wait a minute. From Family Feud? Yeah. The original host from Family Feud? I was thinking Richard Dawson. Richard Dawson? Yeah. Wait a minute. From Family Feud? The original host from Family Feud?
Starting point is 00:03:47 I was thinking Richard Dawkins. Oh, yeah. The man who invented space. So what I like about this tape is it comes with a little booklet that's a hundred random encounters and events. Oh, that sounds fun. Volume one, The Wildlands. So I brought some dice. Jamie, do you roll dice?
Starting point is 00:04:04 I don't roll okay okay we're not gambling he's not a roll man look at those hands they've never rolled dice before give a roll and i'll see what uh what encounter we do it real close to the mic so what you got there we got 42 that's a big masonic number what does that mean i learned a lot 42 you come upon a delicious apple pie scent and melodious music that comes from the entrance to a dimly lit cave and then we're gonna go in well then that's like you know that we i add that to the adventure and then we just start from there i'm way too scared to to keep going this is why i need here. Why is apple pie scent and music coming from this cave? Scary. Alright, Mike, you give a roll.
Starting point is 00:04:49 This is why I like that you're here, because I do want to play Dungeness synthesizers. I do want to do that. I do want to play these scary adventure tapes, but I am way too scared, and there's too many rules.
Starting point is 00:05:04 If I play three cards with this foot symbol, I can move three spaces. I don't know all the rules, but I'll roll some dice. Alright, roll some dice. I got 85. I wish I got 69. I wish I got 42 again. Oh, this is a long one.
Starting point is 00:05:20 The daughter of a merchant. She has lost her precious brooch. She says she was stolen from her by a thief from a dangerous, ooh, the Zok brotherhood. And she promises you a hefty reward if you break into the gang's lair and bring it back. Beware, Zok's thieves
Starting point is 00:05:37 have nothing to do with it. Her brooch was stolen from her by an envious friend. How did this all fit on the J card? What's in the booklet? Oh, wow. It's a multiple-page booklet. Oh, wow. This is really impressive.
Starting point is 00:05:50 I'm going to give it a roll, and then we'll get going. What did I get? I put my glasses back on. I'm going to make a cake in the shape of a toilet bowl. 73. So, you know, this tape's fun.
Starting point is 00:06:00 Move through the dungeon and kill monsters. A prankster talking tree will answer all your questions but beware one out of two answers is wrong that was the grossest thing i've ever heard in my life all right this looks fun let me see the artwork for it i is it one person handling all the art for this label all these uh or is it just different every time i think different yeah different every time this is beautiful it must and it must have been hard to get this joe i refuse to believe it was easy for you it was easy it even says limited edition tapes right on the jay part oh and look
Starting point is 00:06:35 at that and i don't know if this is a dual release because it also has a little logo that says dungeon nostalgia dungeon nostalgia with a little you know goblin face you get it on a band camp friday to buy more cards to go no i. You get it on a Bandcamp Friday? No, I didn't get it on Bandcamp Friday. That's the trick. Next time. Too much saturation there. Epic games. I'm loving this. I see this project I'm looking now. It looks like they
Starting point is 00:06:57 started it during COVID. They have a shit ton of releases. Mostly digital. They have a tape on blue tapes. Oh, really? Yeah, and everything's numbered, like release number one, release number two, and they all have their names. And this is a smashing adventure.
Starting point is 00:07:13 I love games that are smashing adventures. There's a lot of deck building games. I like games where you just smash stuff. Smash stuff, yeah. You go around, smash, smash, smash, smash. All right, so we'll play that bulbous tape. And what was it called again? A Smashing Adventure.
Starting point is 00:07:28 Jamie, what do you want to do after that? All right. I'm going to come in strong with this Yai tape. That's my aunt's name. Yai. What is Yai? Flowers from home. it's a project of David Lackner and you know anything about me oh yeah you love David Lackner he can do no wrong yeah I like David Lackner yeah I'm trying to remember the name of the other fellow on this it's John Thayer John Thayer yeah it's
Starting point is 00:08:03 a duo this is a kind of a new agey with some some saxophone i love john thayer he plays guitar right yeah he put he filled in for the dead yeah wow this is so this is a pretty big deal this is uhuccini so is this like recorded from like a bootleg how they do the bootlegs the dead bootlegs is that what this is no i think it's a from the board it's your standard cassette tape on not not fun okay oh okay yeah not that fun yeah no i believe i'm looking on the band camp right now i see this is actually actually called, it's not New Age Jamie. It's Laptop Jazz. Okay.
Starting point is 00:08:48 Well, that suits David Lackner, I would say. Oh, Laptop Jazz. I'm looking, yeah. Some of the jazz greats must be very honored that out of all the hard work it was put into the genre that the two whitest looking guys you ever met would be making something called Laptop Jazz. But I'll listen to it. I'm a jazz nut.
Starting point is 00:09:07 Hand it over to me. I think Joe's got it. It's right here. I'm a jazz nut. Oh, Jesus. Jamie. I like the colors. Yeah, you're burying the lead.
Starting point is 00:09:15 I dig the art. Thank you for... I'll sample that. In case you abandoned me, too. You didn't mention that this was the most gorgeous tape that's ever been made. Oh, yeah. This is beautiful. I've never seen a Noroco case this color before.
Starting point is 00:09:31 What is that, seafoam? That may be seafoam. I was going to say spearmint, but I think... You know what? Actually, we'll check... Spearmint's a little bit more green. Grab that book right over your shoulder. Oh, is that a Pantone?
Starting point is 00:09:42 That's not a Pantone book, but that's from French paper. There's's some samples in there and one of them is called spearmint so we can figure this out right now yeah i found the spearmint yeah it's a little lighter yeah it's close though but you see that i like those beautiful artwork oh and the paper on this is glittery it's like a glittery silver paper oh yeah flowers from home loving it i'm loving it wait till you hear the music oh are we gonna play it oh yeah i thought that's not it okay well then now i feel a lot of pressure on me right now to pick something good so i might as well just in case pick two so i'm going you guys familiar with Budokan Boys? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:27 We played Budokan Boys tape before. A little silly. You know what? Yeah, that's the thing. It's like they do some shit that like a style of vocal styling or they'll make choices that are just when you come down to it, some of the choices are just dumb as shit. But so dumb that it's good again it wraps all the way back around
Starting point is 00:10:51 it's a synthesizer this tape is called so broken up about you dying i think it's a self-release tape i think i can't find any information about a label in it jamie i'm gonna hand it to you okay see if you can't figure it out. Oh, and while you have it, open up the J card. Because this J card, Joe B., I'm going to have him do it one panel at a time. Show it to Joe. Unfold it one panel
Starting point is 00:11:16 at a time, and Joe, you say when you think it's going to stop. Okay. There's one. That's got to stop there, because it's a full picture of a window. What? Wait. It's still going, right? What? What? Now, what do you think? Any more? Yeah, that's got to be it. That's a full picture of a window what wait it's still going right what what now what do you think anymore yeah that's got to be it that's got to be is that it that's it that is it i thought there was one more but yeah it's you gotta admit that jay got an ass on it it don't stop it's been working out doing squats jeff t bird and michael jeffrey lee put out this this is uh i think it's a pretty grim record.
Starting point is 00:11:45 It's like a death record. They lost some people. But you can make a tape about it. I think it's very good. Very good to be able to do that. Yeah. In this economy, especially. Gas prices, where they are.
Starting point is 00:11:59 Don't get me started on the gas prices, Joe B. Come on. Someone with a gun on the cover. Oh, yeah. They have a machine gun, right? A machine gun, on the cover. Oh, yeah. There's two. They have a machine gun, right? A machine gun, but surprisingly, there's no clip. There's no magazine in the gun. I applaud
Starting point is 00:12:12 that. For safety reasons, I applaud that. The label for this is Ever Never. See, I thought Ever Never put out the compact disc and then they put out the... Why is an Ever Never's name anywhere on this tape? Oh, you're right. You're right. The cassette is not on Discogs yet.
Starting point is 00:12:27 Oh my goodness. Are you serious? That's just the CD. That's pretty wild. Who listens to CDs anymore? I know, right? Who still uses CDs? I do on my car.
Starting point is 00:12:40 Didn't you have a problem with your car where the radio wouldn't work unless you put in a four-digit code? That was my old car. Okay, did you ever figure out yeah it took a while it took a long time do you just brute force it because well no because it was written on the top like they had to take the stereo out and it was written on the top of it so eventually after it happened a few times my mechanic wrote it in the uh in the manual for. But you had like a book going, because you could only do so many attempts a day. You could only do 10 or something like that. And then you had to wait.
Starting point is 00:13:10 It was so stupid. Yeah. For a car stereo? For a CD player? It was if my battery died. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, then it reset and I had to put in a four-digit code. Oh, so somebody stole it.
Starting point is 00:13:21 Right. Yeah, yeah. I remember those days. Yeah. So like on long car trips, we would just keep guessing. We would be like, 1-0-0-0, 1-0-0-1. Oh, we did 10. We got to wait a half hour.
Starting point is 00:13:33 So like if someone stole your car, the punishment was they couldn't listen to CDs? Yeah. You couldn't listen to any music. I don't think the radio would work. I don't remember. Oh, actually, that's a pretty tough one. I think nothing would work. That is tough on crime.
Starting point is 00:13:45 Yeah, so then it would just silence. Yeah, that's going to deter a lot of auto theft. It's like, I'm not going to steal a car and drive it in silence. I remember going to a tattoo convention in Rochester, I think it was. So it was like, what, like six or seven hours away? Uh-huh. And Jonah was like going through and like keeping, like writing down. I don't think we ever got it.
Starting point is 00:14:09 Well, if you ever get the car back, let me know. Cause I would like to actually don't tell me the code. And then I want to try. I think that was my CRV. I think that was my Honda CRV. Oh, the one that had, it came with a noise table. It came with a table. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:20 Yeah. They really should advertise that more. Mine didn't come with a noise table. No. No. In the back, it came with a folding table. They took one look at Joe, and they knew he was going to need a noise table. They looked at you.
Starting point is 00:14:30 That was good. What did they give you? I break under the pressure in that negotiation room. They name a price, and I just say, all right. Yes, I will sign. Jamie gives him $10,000 above ASCII. He always goes $10,000 above sticker, no matter what. I just want to get out of there.
Starting point is 00:14:47 Please. Jamie, stop. So that Budokan boys tape. And then let's go into this one. I'm not sure if it's out right yet at the time of this recording. Jason Krumer, Thin Ice. The thinnest. And trust me, boys, the thinnest of ice.
Starting point is 00:15:04 This one, the ice is so thin it's like you cut it on a deli slicer oh i know i'm telling you man this i'm telling you man this stuff will poison your mind uh it's just all it's all gooey and beautiful and stretched out it's a gorgeous tape nice no rent i'm if we could play a tape... More no rent. It's more no rent. Well, Jason Krumer is one of the people that runs no rent. That's right. I'd play something on no rent every goddamn episode if it was allowed.
Starting point is 00:15:35 But I will show restraint. We played the Stress Orphan tape last time. I am going to play this Jason Krumer tape a second. A little track from this. What do you think about that artwork, Joe? You're a bit of an artwork man. There's like a painting on the cover. Yeah, it's like a little kid on like a shipwreck or something.
Starting point is 00:15:52 He's like floating on some debris. Is that a teddy bear? Very sad. It's like a screenshot from tight. It's very sad. So I'm going to play two sad ones. And then we'll go on this adventure. We'll do some laptop jazz.
Starting point is 00:16:07 You ready for this first block? Oh, yeah. Let's do it. All right. Let's do it. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. © transcript Emily Beynon © transcript Emily Beynon ¶¶ Thank you. © transcript Emily Beynon Thank you. Oh, my God! I'm a dead soul I'm a dead soul Nothing but a dead soul And nothing but a dead soul I was being chased I was being pursued
Starting point is 00:27:30 For what I did not know I sought refuge in a building Still they could pursue I crossed an empty hallway I ran up the spiral staircase To the seventh floor Still making the same I'm never getting in
Starting point is 00:28:27 I run into a bedroom I saw an open window I found the prick of conscience But life is not the same I shove through the open windows I'm so through with all this with all I'm not seven-flagged Yes. Now I'm nothing but a dead soul. Nothing but a dead soul.
Starting point is 00:29:45 You should not commit suicide Even if all hope is lost To be continued... I don't know. I'm going to have to go back. I don't know. I'm going to go ahead and do that. I'm going to have to go back to the I'm first. All this. All this. And then how do you say, yai? Yai. Yai. Yai. Laptop yas.
Starting point is 00:34:09 And turn the room down, Jamie. You got the room up in here. Oh, my bad. I'm getting mad echo. My bad. I like a little echo. I like a little echo, too, but not too much. Budokan Boys and Jason Krumer.
Starting point is 00:34:18 And you can see what I'm saying about Budokan Boys. And I mean it. That's goofy. I mean it in the nicest way. Don't attack me when I say that. Some of the choices are so bad that they become good again. And don't attack... I am
Starting point is 00:34:32 the cassette community's most lovable scamp, so do not attack me. I'm Noise's most innocent man, and I will not take any barbs. Joe B., do you want to start off this spot with another adventure? Yeah, I'll start off with another adventure. Another tape from Heimat
Starting point is 00:34:47 de Catastrophe. Oh, hi, Mark. Oh, hi. You know what? Nobody has that clip? You know what? I might, but I'm not looking for it right now. Real quick, let me just try something. I'm going to try a little on the fly.
Starting point is 00:35:04 This is from Kobold. Heimat der Katastrophe. Katastrophe. Heimat der Katastrophe. House of Disaster. House of Disaster. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:35:16 Very scary. This is Kobold, Legend of the Wicked Pirates. Oh. And what I love about this one, and I think every Kobold release. Now, this is an adventure. Yeah, it's music for... Now, you guys might not know what the OSR is. The OSR is a movement within role-playing.
Starting point is 00:35:34 It's called the Old School Renaissance, basically. So it's like using old school, old D&D rules instead of the newer rules. Okay. So this is music for an OSR module. So what's great about this one is it comes with this is an adventure. So the J card opens up with a map.
Starting point is 00:35:58 That's insane. And then the map has a little map on the back of the J card. If I play three cards with this foot symbol, I can move three spaces. They're all numbered locations. And then inside the J card, or with it comes a little booklet that each of the numbered locations is all descriptions for them. Another little booklet. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:17 This label with their tiny little glorious booklets. I love it. Wow. You know what I like? I like a tape label that either puts so much effort into it, it's obnoxious, or one that puts so little effort into it, it's obnoxious. I love it. If you're going to do something in between, don't even bother. So let's see.
Starting point is 00:36:37 For number seven, which is right off the Gurra Bay on Sagarak Isle. Obviously. Zombies awake from the sand. Lying on the sand, we feel the warmth of the first sun of dawn mixed with the smell of saltiness. But there is no break. On guard, shouts Victor, while the others are still lying on the ground. Where the jungle ends at the beach,
Starting point is 00:36:57 dozens of withered figures are rising from the sand. There are a horde of zombie pirates. We have nowhere to run, and we can only dance again to the rhythm of the blades. Too rough. I have the same conversations with my son. And then what's also cool is... I learned a lot.
Starting point is 00:37:13 On the flip side of the J card, not the map part, has the party and has all the characters that you would play in this adventure. So Victor Darkheart is a fighter, male, level 5. Bloodwind Stonemade is a dwarf, male dwarf male level five it's a fucking big sea turtle zothan mealer is a magic user male level five everyone's level five no who could that be shall we play a game gara denier the elf female level four you're using it's uh super fun to go into your deck. And also, I was telling Mike, I ordered a shirt, a kobold shirt as well. And what's tight is the shirt, there's two shirts.
Starting point is 00:37:50 Kill monsters. One is the viewpoint of the player. See how it's like the player and the monster? And then the other shirt is the viewpoint of the monster and has the players, like, seeing what the players look like. It's pretty cool. Oh, my God. So much going on here hand this over didn't even mention that the leader tape is red blood red blood red like a pirate
Starting point is 00:38:14 zombie would hurt you they're doing it this is incredible i love it and it's amazing i've seen this kobold has um several adventures out yeah i think every one of the template yeah the cover art yep oh my god i think every one of kobold's releases comes with an adventure you must feel so and that's where i feel like uh you have to get the physical to enjoy the kobold releases like just getting just downloading it or whatever you're not getting the you know you're not getting the adventure. Who's this top guy here with the mustache and the hat? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:38:50 It might be the wizard level five. I am into the wizard guy, the level five. I am level five. Oh, my goodness gracious. I'm so glad. Will you continue to buy these? Yeah, yeah, I will. Whenever I can.
Starting point is 00:39:03 And you said the shipping actually wasn't even that. It wasn't that expensive, no. No, I just, I'm not not quick enough I follow them on Instagram yeah by the time I see it it's gone yeah it's always like the first I'll be taking a bubble bath with my synthesizers taking a nice soak taking a bubble bath with my synthesizer and I'll be looking at and I'll go chicken on a bun and it's sold out already i love are these original drawings on the cover or had they been cribbed from oh you know what i know sci-fi magazine no i want to say they're original because like i said they're always like the two different viewpoints this is the kind of thing that if i was good at stuff i would do i would do a label just like this i love it okay i Okay, I'm going to go on this adventure.
Starting point is 00:39:46 It's a lot of work to do that. Yeah, it's a lot of work. I ain't got that kind of time. Jamie. I don't know how I can follow that, but I got this tape here from Refulgent Sepulcher in Chile. Jamie, how are you doing, old buddy?
Starting point is 00:40:01 Is that a spider? It's a split between Jacob Winansob winans and andrea pensado oh yeah there you go that's scary what was that like a rizzo graph cover oh rizzo graph yeah this is lance out of uh he does uh unjuant that that project out of philly yeah this is his product this is his label yeah he came to a final friday uh recently i think i think i traded a module with him one time oh my little module slinging all right let's talk shop how many holes did it have joe i think it had four holes i learned a lot very nice oh yellow leader i now there's a lot of pressure on my leader to be a good color i like the art on this a lot i
Starting point is 00:40:44 like the colors yeah a little spider going on here so what are you playing off this i'm gonna we'll do the andrea pensado side all right who's that who the hell is that andrea pensado works with sound as a performer and a programmer she's been using digital media and live interactive music system since 1995 she studied in argentina and poland what. So just by that alone, I can't play the other side. And what kind of stuff is it? What am I going to hear? From what I remember, it's kind of, you know, concrete, you know, some acoustic sounds and some electric sounds. They oscillated the mic.
Starting point is 00:41:21 Yeah. Yeah. It's like vocal stuff, right? Am I wrong? I can, right? Am I wrong? I can't remember. Am I wrong, Jamie? And they oscillated it very, very seriously. I didn't do my homework.
Starting point is 00:41:33 We're just going for it. You got to do a little... You're going to show up here with RS number 24. I brought cool adventures, Jamie. I don't know about you. Joby brought cool adventures. I just kind of offer that... And dice.
Starting point is 00:41:43 The welcoming home. Yeah, should we... You know what? Let's roll... Roll me another just kind of offer the welcoming home. Yeah, should we? You know what? Let's roll me another thing out of that booklet. Okay. Oh, someone's calling me. You want to take it real quick? That's cool.
Starting point is 00:41:54 Hello? Put on speaker. This is Joe. That's so unprofessional. You go on stern. You don't get treated like this. What a stupid son of a bitch I can't believe he would do that
Starting point is 00:42:06 should we just wait should we be very quiet good little boys and wait yeah I think there should be a lot of dead air for the listeners too hold on be very quiet Jamie shut up Jamie
Starting point is 00:42:20 you wanna hear my Aerosmith clip yeah it's pretty long Jamie. You want to hear my Aerosmith clip? Yeah. It's pretty long. I think the next one's my favorite one. It's pretty good. It's almost over. You can start it over. If peeing your pants is cool consider me miles davis all right then i'm gonna play us uh i'll play one sorry you're having a little fun that was my doctor's office so this is in a little bit of an interesting one here okay so i was
Starting point is 00:43:22 contacted by a doctor and scientist local doctor and scientist dr peter compo has contacted me and has uh instructed me to play this cassette tape this sounds and i thought you were joking but this is actually true this is real this is legit i have been contacted directly by scientists and doctor dr peter compo has contacted me from Wilmington, Delaware. This is a local doctor and scientist. It's a synthesizer. They have contacted me directly. I don't know if
Starting point is 00:43:54 they got my number through the CDC. I don't know if the scientific community, I'm published in several places. I don't like to get into it. What journals? But some of my peer reviews. I read a lot of journals. I don't like to get into it. What journals? But some of my peer reviews. I read a lot of journals.
Starting point is 00:44:06 I never saw your name. My work has... He uses a different name when he writes his scientific papers. A stage name. A stage name. A pseudonym. A pseudonym. That's what it is.
Starting point is 00:44:15 You have to talk about your opinions to yourself. So anyway, no, there's this dude from... He's from Delaware. He's from Wilmington, Delaware. I don't think he was born in Delaware, though, Mike. I believe he was born in New York City. The Big Apple. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:27 Huh. And he's managed to find his way to Delaware, doctor and scientist. And let me start over. A doctor and scientist has contacted me. Like, not like a real doctor. This person isn't like, like if I said, like, fix my knee, they couldn't fix my knee. Like Dr. Bill Cosby.
Starting point is 00:44:47 Yeah, yeah. It's full of musical instruments. Too soon for that one. His name is Peter Campo. He is a scientist. Doctor. Breadsticks. Who put it in...
Starting point is 00:45:07 What, he found the podcast somehow? He somehow... He was scouring the internet. Bozo did the dub. And he... And he came upon it. Peter Campo, he put out a tape called Films. Films.
Starting point is 00:45:20 And he dropped it off by hand with uh as a scientist and doctor will do documentation and uh is it notarized it is not notarized but i was going to get it notarized before we play i think doctors have to notarize things so that's what i mean about him not being a real doctor like you like people get phd like my wife got a phd and i said okay my i accidentally swallowed glass fix that and she's like oh i can't okay well thanks doc why do you love a bit of cheese but he dropped off this tape uh films the real you show me you got the information right there can i see the tape while he's looking at the sheet you can see oh yeah it's got a beautiful painting on it by another compo. Another related compo.
Starting point is 00:46:08 I don't know if there's a doctor or a scientist. But when he dropped it off, I was thinking, great. If this tape sucks, and he's going to contact me a week later and be like... Did you play my tape? Hello, this is Dr. Rapido Campo. Doctor and scientist. Doctor and scientist. Dr. Rapido Campo getting in touch here. I was doing some recent experiments and I...
Starting point is 00:46:29 Experimental stuff. And I noticed that you did not play my tape yet. And I was going to have to avoid them. But not only is it good. It slaps. It slaps. It's very good. It slaps.
Starting point is 00:46:40 It's fire and it's good. I'm really surprised a scientist can make music this good yeah yeah um but it's also there's some things that made me chuckle on there for instance there is a track called star and other wars and i thought that i thought that was a very funny joke they're all movies right films films it's all stuff i don't know what is it uh interpretations of uh i don't know i'm not a million dollar movie what's gorgo is that that's a movie i've never heard of that star in other wars cops magnificent seven billy budd the bank dick the bank dick yeah the year of living dangerously blade runner 23 did did you get to talk to him
Starting point is 00:47:26 did he come in or did you just drop it very very quickly i went downstairs did he have a ponytail i didn't see the back of him i can check my security camera footage and uh we'll go over we'll diagnose that during this um i could tell he kind of wanted to start a relationship because he could tell i was a cool guy but you know i got a lot going on right now so i was kind of like all right my internet's going off i gotta get going buddy no no i'm excited for this yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah gotta get him to play final friday yeah sure it's always fun to find some new cats in delaware yeah i'll say that hip cats hip cats i'm looking for my dog barking sound so I got one alright we ready to play these yeah do it Thank you. Thank you. I'm sorry. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I'm sorry. I don't know. Making us a...
Starting point is 00:53:51 Maybe only... Making us... But making all... Ah, let's see. Oh, jeez. No. No. No. I'm going to go ahead and do it. I'm sorry. I'm not sure if I can't know. I'm not going to let you get away with this. Oh, my God. I'm going to go get some food. The End Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. we're back all right that was bulb cobalt cobal. Andrea Pensado. And the last one was... Peter, doctor, scientist, Peter Campo. Peter Campo.
Starting point is 01:02:50 Scientist, doctor. Scholar. Scholar, Peter Campo. Emeritus. Emeritus. Has entrusted me as a research student to play some of this experimental music. Joby, I described that to you when I got it as, it sounds kind of like a blues-controlled track,
Starting point is 01:03:07 but the bass will get you pregnant. Get you pregnant. And I immediately was pregnant and had to go get the morning-after pill. Get that thing flushed out, Joe. All right. Oh, you wanted to say something about Kobold. Oh, that's a monster from D&D, in case you don't know.
Starting point is 01:03:21 Too mean. Pretty scary. I had some scary things on here. Oh, yeah, I meant to play this earlier. And enjoy the adventure. It was a good adventure. It was scary, but we survived. Really scary. Alright, who wants to...
Starting point is 01:03:33 How should we take this out? How should we end this episode? Joe B., I'm so happy to have you here. I know, it's good to be back. Jamie has been... Yeah, seriously. It's nice to have Jamie here because he knows a lot about Discogs and you can push him around. But it seems like you're really into tech too. Don't push me too far. I can only take so much.
Starting point is 01:03:50 Only so much. Then don't break. Yes. Okay. Well, episode one 77, how are we taking this out to same order? We haven't done a good old fashioned same order show in a long time.
Starting point is 01:03:59 We could, mine's a little bit on the sleepy side. So if you want to go out with me, that would be fine. But if you want to go to sleep, like if I want sleepy side, so if you want to go out with me, that would be fine. But if you want to go to sleep... Like if I want to date you? If you want to go out? I don't sleep on dates. Only after marriage.
Starting point is 01:04:13 He doesn't rest. He means he doesn't rest. He has to stay. He's constantly awake. All right, then, Joby, why don't you start? All right. We'll do a reverse-y. We'll do the old reversal. I'm going to play this tape by Grimdor. Oh, lovely.
Starting point is 01:04:27 Another scary one. Another scary one. This is a scary hat trick for you. On Out of Season from Maine. So scary. I would like some thunder crashing right there if you could. As soon as you said Out of Season, I would like some- Thunder is apostrophe.
Starting point is 01:04:39 Yeah. Pretty much whenever Joby's got a tape tape you should have your finger on that so this is a compilation of some um out of print eps and singles and such who is grimdor grimdor is grimdor and uh narzug so grimdor is grimdor and narza yeah it's kind of like in total recall how klatu was the guy and the thing yeah yeah okay yeah how do they build that in the credits is klatu like is it was it klatu wasn't the the guy in the stomach klatu no because that's from like that's from like um the day the earth stood still oh you're right you want to take the you know you know film don't you so we should you want to call peter combo real quick what is it because i just watched that not too long ago anyway it'll
Starting point is 01:05:29 come to me jamie look it up now you can push him around look it up what was the belly monster yeah but this is this monster jamie god i really wish i knew this i'm sorry jamie we'd already talked about Kuatu. Is that what it is? Kuato. It's Kuato. Kuato. Kuato. It's Kuato.
Starting point is 01:05:48 Got it. I knew we'd get there. I haven't seen that in a long time. When he's like, Quaid. And he's got the weird little arm.
Starting point is 01:05:54 Yeah. It's fun. Grimdor plays guitar, bass, drums, keys, and synths. Of course. And Narzug is vocals and lyrics.
Starting point is 01:06:04 So this goes between dungeon synth like lo-fi dungeon synth uh-huh and then lo-fi black metal like what is i know the synth stands for synthesizer keyboard but the dungeon does that like represent like do you have does it have to be like scary and drippy does it have to do more with uh fantastical gaming i don't know because there's you know the dungeon synth i just wanted some stuff's very medieval yeah you know black metal is pretty medieval yeah and black metal yeah definitely there's definitely the venn diagram of the two so we'll play a couple tracks off the a side of this is there something like almost dungeon synth,
Starting point is 01:06:46 but it's like basement synth? Crawl space synth. Crawl space. I play crawl space keyboard. You're Quado, right? I'm Quado. You see, if you push his ass around, he will get the job done.
Starting point is 01:06:59 There's a lot of Lord of the Rings references on this. There can only be one. The one tape was called The Lonely Mountain. The other tape was called Battle at the Bridge of Khazad-Dum. What are these, Lord of the Rings references? Yeah, they're Lord of the Rings. Okay, right on. I knew that.
Starting point is 01:07:16 So yeah, I'm going to play that. I love this label's logo, like the bat with the spikes through it. Yeah. Is that on the tape? Yeah, is that on the tape or yeah it's on the back okay yeah so don't get it's a crossed mace and then yeah like a another weapon with spikes yeah like a post-apocalyptic apocalyptic i'm just watching total recall now that's cool i've never seen the like remake with colin farrell i wonder if quattro's in that are you sure you're
Starting point is 01:07:46 watching total recall yeah i don't know what you're watching is this the end when he's like quade comes face to face with kuwatsu oh okay oh there's the arm yep this is very good for the podcast i love this movie i don't remember part. That was the grossest thing I've ever heard in my life! Alright, I like how this label, the early logo was this hand-drawn thing, like a child would draw it. Oh, I don't even remember. And it looks kind of corny, but still cool. And then the updated one is like, it's a little too phallic, but whatever. It can't be too phallic.
Starting point is 01:08:21 Nothing can be too phallic for you, Jamie, because that's just the kind of guy you are. Especially with the mace hanging down, the big ball sack thing going on. It kind of takes it over the top there. We'll play two tracks, a Dungeon Synth track and then a black metal track. Okay, cool. All right.
Starting point is 01:08:40 I'm going to play this tape by Lexagon called Feminine Care on Ratskin Records. Ratskin. Yeah, this came out late last year. Ratskin. Sorry. Sorry. What notes do I have about this artist?
Starting point is 01:08:53 It's written down here. Alexa Burrell. Jamie, you can pull up, go to alexachristineburrell.com slash about. Oh, my God. Alexa Christine. You can push him around just a little bit, and you can do your leg work. Oh, I found it. Alexa, Christine. You can push him around just a little bit. Ooh, I found it. Wow, I'm actually very impressed.
Starting point is 01:09:13 Experimental stuff. Okay. Wide range of arts. We're talking, I believe, maybe like, what do you got there? My screen's full of other windows. Born in 1987, a mercurial mixed media artist. Red sticks.
Starting point is 01:09:29 Alexa creates immersive video and sound installations that center complex black femme experiences, environmental change, and speculative documentation. I don't know what that last one means. Alexa weaves together field recordings, video composites, projections, animations, sculptures, and archival materials to create lush, fantastical, and evocative narratives that compare the emotional and material, natural and technological, and scientific
Starting point is 01:09:51 and spiritual. Wow. Take a breath. You gotta get through the whole thing. I got through it. Oh, good job. Very good. Very talented artist. I believe this might be her only tape, only recording. Well, on Ratskin, that's quite an honor. That's a great label.
Starting point is 01:10:11 Yes, thank you. Thank you. It is quite an honor for me. I see there's different theater design, video, other things like this. But under sound, there's instrument builds. There's an instrument that was built here. But music musical instrument yeah i'm only seeing as far as oh wait here's some more stuff never mind there's a little never mind now i'm seeing some more stuff never mind okay it's a really good tape a wide range of stuff here uh but i'm gonna play that tape
Starting point is 01:10:41 jamie what do you got coming up here that you said you have a sleeper to end us with? A little bit of a sleeper. A little bit of a deep listening experience. Oh, turn your headphones on. Okay, hold on. Everybody shut up. I got what I think is the one and only release on TBD tapes. This is a bootleg.
Starting point is 01:10:58 Yeah, oh, I know about this one. Yeah, okay. This is quid pro quo, isn't it? Is this insider trading? It might be. I think Matty McPherson has something to do with this tape. I think they might have curated it or something along those lines.
Starting point is 01:11:10 It came out on a Bandcamp Friday. I bought it. It's pretty cool. Why is the text so small on the front? We talked about this before. People are making the text very small and we put a minimum on it. We're pushing the limits of a printer. The zoomers have better eyes than we do.
Starting point is 01:11:26 Well, this is a classic tape. Yeah, it's one of the Maxell heavy boys. It's a Maxell, yeah, yeah, yeah. You know what I think what we need to do is... High resonance dampening and heat-resisting cassette mechanism. Yeah, they don't make them like that anymore. This is heavy tape. Wow.
Starting point is 01:11:40 Let me feel it. Ow! This is a real deal tape uh i think what tbd is it's a radio show correct it's a radio show it's an old-fashioned timey radio show is that maddie's radio show i think maddie is involved with maybe someone else uh you can read about it on bandcamp this is the first release you were right is it the only release or are there more? I think this is the only release, I think. Who is T. Gowdy? Who's the split? That's not Trey Gowdy, is it?
Starting point is 01:12:10 T. Gowdy is just T. Gowdy. Music producer and musician from Montreal. Okay, that's not that. Canada! Oh, it's Tim Gowdy, not Trey Gowdy. Okay, so that's not that congressman who had the real pointy haircut. You could rewind a tape with his haircut. It came up like a pencil. You don't want to remember that guy yeah yeah yeah chicken on a bun
Starting point is 01:12:30 i'm moving on yeah yeah funnier stuff hand it to me where'd it go it's right here i want to get a good look at this font and see if you're right oh jesus christ it's not just the size of the font no i'm talking about on the front. Oh, my God. You probably didn't even see it. No, no, it's the same on the inside. Oh, okay. Wait, let me see. In the corner there.
Starting point is 01:12:50 Oh, okay. Joby, I don't think that's a font. I think that's just design. No, those are letters. Oh, my God. Oh, dear. I know they're letters, but I don't think it's ever been... It's not intended for man to read them.
Starting point is 01:13:03 Let me see. Let me see it real quick. You're going to try to do an iPhone picture of it? Computer, enhance. Zoom in. There's no way you can zoom in on text that small. Oh, it's too blurry. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:13:15 You need a magnifying glass in the studio. There's a telescope out there. You want to go hang this on the tree across the street and kind of zoom in on it? Yeah, I don't think, you know what we might need to resort to is uh violence we'll get there but i think like steampunk kind of like you know how they were like yeah yeah i want to be able to like this like uh change the lenses yeah yeah i have little lens attachments on my glasses yeah in the meantime you can't read it at all and then even the text inside while a better size font it's like white on like teal or white on seafoam this one let me get the color oh you'll get the color yeah is that
Starting point is 01:13:57 seafoam or is that spearmint that might be spearmint actually this tape i think it's hurry up because this tape's really heavy you need more colors in here yeah it's not a lot of colors in that pantone book it's not a pantone book it's french paper um i don't this tape might be too heavy to go on my deck oh yeah it won't you need a special deck trust me your deck's gonna appreciate you for putting this tape oh actually yeah i think it will oh yeah i think it's gonna hum not not in a bad way in a good way it always hums all right well and this is you said this is really bad jamie we're gonna go to sleep no it's just this is you know you don't want to you don't want anything jarring after this you want to guided meditation when listening to this unlimited salad all right right on well let's play these three joe b love having you back in the studio thanks for bringing scary adventures uh jamie you did not bring any scary adventures okay wait hold on i got one goodbye Thank you. Thank you. so Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I'm going to go ahead and do that. Thank you. Thank you. Let me, let me, let me, let me
