Starting point is 00:00:00 🎵 fuck you tabs out cassette podcast episode 178 is it 178 really yeah what a big what a big fine masonic number that is yeah that's a big masonic number indivisible and we got a bunch of tapes stacked up here on the table which is very convenient. The tables kind of lean into the side. It's got... Yeah, it's got... You know, you put enough... I can only reach so much of the table, so if enough Narokos go on the side there...
Starting point is 00:00:53 We got a big old box came in the mail from Atlantic Rhythms. You're not too familiar with that label. We were talking about them. Right. I am a little bit more familiar now than I was this morning, but... Ambient.
Starting point is 00:01:04 It's ambient music. Yeah. Ambient noise. This shit looks beautiful. I say we're going more familiar now than I was this morning. Ambient. It's ambient music. This shit looks beautiful. I say we're gonna pick a few out of that. Let's do it. I see you bought a few. Maybe you'll play some. Let's keep it loose. Let's keep it loose. Let's keep it like like, you know, just really easy. Like Sunday morning.
Starting point is 00:01:20 Yeah. Well, it's Saturday, but yeah. Similar. No one has to know. Do you want to pick a tape from my pile? how about i pick a tape from your pile and you pick a tape from my pile i like you know what i've never done that before this is this can be uh quite an adventure this could be a thrill okay so i'm not sure if we've ever played any of these like instructional tapes from strategic tape reserve yet so i think that i think it deserves a play on the podcast oh come on shane i agree so that these are this series on strategic tape reserve is called learning by listening um i think they're
Starting point is 00:01:53 up to like seven i have a question right this is number six i have a question and it's called shapes for experts presented by the center for understanding new trigonometries this is the first one that it's specifically for experts. Specifically for experts. This is not, yeah. Not for the layman. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. It even says on here on the back, and they printed it in red.
Starting point is 00:02:15 So I think they printed it in red because typically red will stand out. But when it's on black, it doesn't really stand out. You see it less than all the other stuff. Really does not sound right. I can't even read what it says, but it says something about how if you're not an expert don't play this tape please note that the audio contained within is designed for instructional purposes okay instructional purposes somewhere not yeah um yeah i guess uh don't don't try it unless you're with uh with somebody to show you how to do it so what shapes shapes, you don't know, you're not a shape expert.
Starting point is 00:02:45 You couldn't tell me. You're probably one of these square circles. No, I know like a rhombus. Oh, good shit. All right. A rhombus is like a diamond. I think it's, the rhombus is the one that has two sets of parallel sides, but they can be any length.
Starting point is 00:03:00 And the angles don't matter. Is that right? What were some of the other tapes that, like, what were some of the other instructional ones? The one that I have is, like, a card game called Bangararosa. Okay. Have you heard that one? It was pretty good. Do they, in my experience, I haven't dug too deep into them.
Starting point is 00:03:19 Yeah. But this seems like the one that really explains the topic the most. Okay. It's like, do you remember uh what was it called look around you like a british show from like maybe 15 years ago that was before my time that was oh yeah you're only 14 i totally forgot i keep forgetting how young you are there was some show called look around you that was like it was meant to look like it was instructional films from like the 70s okay
Starting point is 00:03:45 but they were goofing it was a prank they were made now uh and they used some modern day trickery and you know costumes and makeup and stuff to make it seem like it was old and uh this is the same thing it's like an audio form version of that yeah so it's like these old here's some other ones uh enjoying nature visiting places like how like how to do these things yeah how to enjoy nature well they're instructional tapes and then those are the only ones on discogs there's let's go to the band campaign people you got you're slacking on this amen come on i love this label strategic tape reserve the best yeah does the the fun is i don't want to call them
Starting point is 00:04:26 goofs but they are kind of they're goofy well he was on the show and he and he said they're not a meme label he was being he was having a laugh he was having a laugh he was even doing he was even being a meme at that moment all right here's some other ones uh the most recent one volume seven is modern tavla i don't know what that means. Shapes for Experts. Visiting Places. Abstruse Theories in Occult Christian Science. I like that. Wow, big divergence from topics there. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:53 We got the theological, we have the mathematical. It's all there. And they're all different artists. How do you even find out who the Center for Understanding New Trigonometries is? My theory is that it's Eamon. If there's like no name on it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:09 Okay. Because there's some other ones, like the most recent ones by Churchill. And there's another one by Bleed Air. Now I'm pissed because that was what I was going to pick first. Okay. Oh, sorry. I was going to make a big splash on this episode
Starting point is 00:05:22 and I was going to say, listeners, you're not going to believe it. Get ready for a shape tape. We're all going to become shape experts. Ladies and gentlemen, Spin Doctor. And you stole my thunder, but that's no big deal. And do I have to pick out of your pile or can I pick out of mine?
Starting point is 00:05:39 No, you have to pick out of mine. Can I put one of mine in yours? I guess I didn't specify that for the video. You're finding loopholes you know i found several i've been as you were talking i was kind of like yeah he's talking but i'm looking for a loophole how am i gonna do this yeah i got i want to play this no i'm not going to play those you know that label house of catastrophe we played shit from last time or two episodes ago i don't remember at all actually i'm sorry the fucking dungeons and dragons oh oh yeah oh well you you're saying it's high mats they're catastrophe yeah yeah i did i do a translation
Starting point is 00:06:14 you do the americana i do yeah i got i got joe b played some of those and i got addicted to them and now i got a bunch oh they're so good i gotta dict it i can't get enough of this stuff no i'll play something out of your pile i guess um how about this orange milk one is this from the batch that they sent you a few months ago yeah this is uh seth graham sent this to my personal residence oh and uh this one is uh very cutting edge very take take a smell take sniff this one is not even on band camp yet not even on the band camp oh that's why it smells is very cutting edge. Take a smell. Take a sniff. This one is not even on band camp yet. Not even on the band camp. Oh, that's why it smells like that. Oh, because the download codes are stinky.
Starting point is 00:06:53 Yeah. Some of those... Real quick. They don't put download codes in their tapes. Who doesn't? Orange milk? They don't put them in there. Is that good or bad? That's bad for me. Probably good for you. Some people stop using stinky download codes i know you're saving money because you're buying stinky paper and stinky ink oh this looks
Starting point is 00:07:11 very nice i'm not i'm going to comment on how small the font is doesn't bother it's getting smaller and smaller it's getting smaller you know it would be funny if the font stayed the same size but the j cards kept getting bigger like they were just bursting out of the Noroco cases. So what is this? Is this a Seth Graham artwork, or is Keith Rankin doing this? Oh, man. You don't know? I thought I knew everything about it, but I don't know.
Starting point is 00:07:38 The artist. You know what's funny? I actually added this to Discogs this week, so I should remember. You added it to Discogs? Yeah, of course you did. Have we said what it is yet? The artwork is actually by Ellen Thomas, a new runner in the race. Oh, this is someone else?
Starting point is 00:07:58 Yeah. And are they some sort of understudy? Maybe. A protégé. Almost all of the Discogs credits are orange milk. Giant Claw Soft Channel. Are they some sort of like understudy? Maybe. A Keith Rankin. The only... A protege. Almost all of the Discogs credits are orange milk. Giant Claw Soft Channel. Giant Claw Deep Thoughts.
Starting point is 00:08:13 I have a question, though. Have we said what this is yet? No. Should we not even say it? Did we say the artist's name? That's what I mean. I don't think we have. I'll say it, but I'm not sure who it is. I say it and it's it was it was difficult for me to google this wait do you want to say then do you
Starting point is 00:08:31 want to say at the same time so we do it safe okay okay on three one two three i'm not going to do it we can say it in spanish maybe uh the only spanish list is problema problems and we really drug that one out yeah this is working out on orange milk and they don't have catalog numbers so we don't and it's not out yet you're saying it's an exclusive is an exclusive yeah wow a non-stinky orange milk exclusive and they got these cyborg weird silver people in the front the front. And there's an orb. There is an orb. There's always an orb. Have you noticed the years got very big on the orange milk tapes?
Starting point is 00:09:11 Aye, aye, aye. I lost my shoe. Oof, my rock. Oof, my rock. Yeah, they are getting big. Wow. I wonder if they're using all their font bandwidth on the year for the back. And then it's like we
Starting point is 00:09:26 well times are tough you know you got to cut scale back in some areas they get to the inside and it's like i got no more no more font all right i'm gonna play one more i'm gonna pick one out of my pile all right do it um i'm gonna play this uh oh you know what i gonna play this oh you know what I'll play this because this is kind of like a pseudo this is our 420 episode we got so whacked out on this sticky yicky we forgot to do a 420 episode
Starting point is 00:09:55 that's how you know we're real head stoner potheads oh I hate drugs I was going to play this anyway and then I was like oh shit shit, this will tie in nice. There's a track on here that is four minutes and 20 seconds. Oh, wow. If you can fucking believe it.
Starting point is 00:10:11 And the track on this tape by Joy's Union Group, the tape is called Boredom Euphoria. Ooh, I like that. It took me the longest time, because this tape came before, also before it came out. I'm also getting tapes before they came out, Jamie. Okay, you are too. You're the only person out here getting tapes before they come out.
Starting point is 00:10:29 I'm walking around here, ass out, arms all in front of you like Tony Soprano. Look at all these tapes I got sent directly to my home. Directly to my residence. They aren't even out yet. I got them too. I didn't know if Boredom Euphoria or Joy's Union Group. So let me take a seat. Let me think.
Starting point is 00:10:49 Was the name of, which one was the name of the band? Well, I mean, group is usually the name of the band, but it would be, I think it'd be better. Look how big Boredom Euphoria is on the cover. Oh, that's true. It's huge. It's the, it, Boredom Euphoria, the, if you were doing a WordPress site and this was the template, that would be the biggest text on the top.
Starting point is 00:11:04 And then Joy's Union Group is the small text on the bottom and when you open it up look at look how big boredom euphoria is written inside it's enormous who did the layout you need a spanking rich cali you did get over here you cannot get away with this no it's it looks beautiful it looks beautiful it's a great tape i didn't know which was which until i was listening to um jeff conklin has a radio show called like um i forget what's called could that be it's on well it's on sundays at like 10 in the morning. Sorry. I forget what it's called. He played this tape and said that it was Joy's Union Group and the name of the tape was Bored Before You. I think it would be pretty fun if the name of the group was Bored Before You.
Starting point is 00:11:58 Do you want to fuck it up and redo it and say it the other way? Yeah. I don't have time for that kind of thing. So yeah, I'm going to play the track Fragile Chrysalis. Okay. And it'll be part of our 420, belated 420 episode. A little bit later,
Starting point is 00:12:11 we're going to have C-Rider on. Okay. We're going to talk to C-Rider. And I contend that it's C-Reader, but we'll find out. We'll find out. You are a piece of shit.
Starting point is 00:12:19 Don't come at me with this one because I have the pay. I have the receipts, my friend. Yeah. My anaconda! All right, let's play these tapes. Let's do it. Blah!
Starting point is 00:12:37 Shapes, shapes, common shapes, and uncommon shapes. Common shapes are the domain of the lay person, they who can pick a square from a circle and give themselves a little medal. In our thesis we are interested only in the fabric of our society, impacting city planning, council building, the deep construction of databases, and, of course, our understanding of the fundamentals of nature. This is The Shape Expert. It is thought that less than one in 500 million people are shape experts,
Starting point is 00:13:43 and their achievements and understandings are obscure in scientific journalism. I myself have only met two or three of them in my life, but even a brief conversation with a shape expert can be enriching, educational and endlessly fascinating. The last time I had a conversation with a shape expert was with Dr. F***ing Geen at Central St. Martins. The Rolo Triangle is like an inhabitant of Flatland attempting to liberate itself. It is the oppressed citizen in the process of busting his shackles. It's a chubby bob in a bobbly tub.
Starting point is 00:14:23 It is the line, slave to the pen, attempting to break its own rules. All the seams could bust any time and the emperor's new clothes will fall well and truly off. It is geometry in a balloon universe. I came away from our short talk and had to walk in little circles for six days. Then I floated away. It's possible to spot a novelle equihedron in, for example, a pile of crumpled receipts or a waste paper bin. In general, they will appear only fleetingly in papers which are still settling into their rumpled state. They are, as it were, blink and you'll miss it. But the advent of digital photography has made it far easier to
Starting point is 00:15:11 capture these transitory formations. A naval equahedron has anything between 16 and 27 angles and is a shape known for its time-based aspect. Often settling into a series of lines and joints that has been said to resemble the outer casing of a lobster, the naval aquahedron can also be spotted in close inspection of a crumbling edifice, a year's worn tyre of a large vehicle, or spots where resin drips out of trees. So many shapes and shapes all around. Wonderful shapes in diverse arrangements. What did you see there? Could it be a shape? Yes, look closer and it's really a shape
Starting point is 00:16:13 What shape is it? It could be a square But the lines are irregular and going everywhere How I wish I know more about shapes? Then get to know a shape expert. Thank you. Bye. Thank you. Thank you. so Thank you. ¶¶ Thank you. © BF-WATCH TV 2021 Thank you. Thank you. All right, we're back. We're back. All right, what do we play, Jamie? Do it all from there. What do we play? Center for the Understandings of Trigonometry.
Starting point is 00:24:23 Then what? Problems. And then what? Borealis Institute. I forget what the last one was called. Boredom Euphoria, but it's not called that. Oh, I didn't mention it. It's on, it's called Joy's Union Group.
Starting point is 00:24:36 You can tell because it has the, it friggin' has the word group in it. Yeah. I feel so dumb now that you actually bring that up, Jamie. I do feel like I'm kind of dumb. It's on the label trouble in mind who um they uh they have a series i forget what it's called but these tapes they come in these o cards he's like i learned a lot yeah and it's very nice i have the same
Starting point is 00:24:58 conversations with myself all right let's you want to do i like this oh i there's two things we can do okay i'll let you pick because you're okay you're a guest in my home, you want to do, I like this. Oh, I, there's two things we can do. Okay. I'll let you pick. Cause you're, you're a guest in my home. Do you want to do another round like you just did? Or we got a, a package in the mail.
Starting point is 00:25:13 It's right behind you from the U S postal service. Crispy. It's a crispy package. The post office has been sending very, I think it has something to do with like the supply chain. The envelopes are getting crispy. I know. Careful when you open it because steam will come out.
Starting point is 00:25:27 They sent a package, and the package, it's like their envelope, but on the inside is the package that was sent, which looks smushed to bits. It looks like it's been smashed. I'm going to do a quick set. I'm going to turn the high end up, make it a little crispy. Ooh. Ooh. Jamie, stop.
Starting point is 00:26:02 Jamie, stop. Don't do that again. You want to open that up and see what's in that smushed up envelope, that fucked up envelope? Yeah, you can. Let me give you a little pro tip for everybody out there. Listen, everybody out there listening, putting out. Jamie, do it closer to the mic.
Starting point is 00:26:24 Wait, is that the tape? So you can send the tape in a padded envelope. You can send it wrapped in newspaper and put inside a grocery bag, put inside an envelope. You can send it in one of those cardboard things. You can do anything you want. The odds of them getting smashed to smithereens is the same no matter what so don't sweat it yeah this one got a little hairline crack is that it at the top but not too bad they wrapped them in these little bubble wrappers why was it in the envelopes not bubbled but the
Starting point is 00:26:56 tapes are in a bubble well i don't understand why was it in that other thing like why why did the united states postal service feel the need to like you can't mail something in this I don't understand let me see if I can pop these in the mic these are a mint on card almost would you stop doing like extreme acoustic sound arts this is music concrete
Starting point is 00:27:17 would you please stop alright well now that these aren't all smashed up I'm kind of upset maybe we'll play them next time. Let's move on. Pick a tape. Okay, I'm going to pick one. Oh, you know what? I just listened to this one on Bandcamp the other day. I'm going to play this one, and I'm going to see if I can say this artist's name without looking at it. Without even looking? With your eyes closed?
Starting point is 00:27:42 With my eyes closed. Are you serious? My eyes are going crazy. By the way, I don't think you can do it i think i can i think i can do the first name at least i don't think honestly you're being very brave i don't think i could name any artist with my eyes closed i don't think i could say any of the names with my eyes closed system of them pearl jam your eyes are wide open ladies and gentlemen corn something well let's go ahead give it a shot oh wait i just looked at it my bad sig trigger see i don't know how to say person wait sig no i got it wrong sig trigger berg sigmarsson i learned a lot that's an icelandic
Starting point is 00:28:20 name and andy heckboyd first of all your eyes were open the entire time. As wide as can be. The listener doesn't know that. You were like a kid on Christmas morning. Yeah, but I know that. And like, most of this is for me. This is radio. I got some bad news for you, Jamie, but I am the majority of the listener. But yeah, this
Starting point is 00:28:40 tape was, you sent me a text message, said, check this out. And I said i said yeah i'm mildly familiar with this artist just from the release that he did on hansen a number of years ago and i checked it out and i liked it yeah i thought it would be extremely your shit all the talking and the manipulation of the talking yeah and the talking of the manipulation it's crazy it's called ideas on tape yep and i like the cover. It's crazy. It's called Ideas on Tape. Yep. I like the cover art.
Starting point is 00:29:08 It's just these two pictures. It's almost identical pictures. Yep. With like, what flag do you think this is? It's a green on the bottom, white in the middle, yellow on the top. What nation is that? I don't know, but I stand with it. So before we even find out, you're locked in.
Starting point is 00:29:21 Yeah. Whatever country. Okay. All right. Fair enough. I don't think we're ever going to find out. Yeah label put this out because they did a hell of a job putting together a radical document radical documents all right yeah man radical documents you ever get a radical what's the most radical document you've ever gotten oh gosh i don't know my taxes that's radical yeah i got a pdf of a skateboard you did no i didn't but i did oh do we know anything about this label
Starting point is 00:29:54 no i don't you can keep doing that while i look no i don't know either. I know you said one person's from Iceland and the other person is from Kentucky. Kentucky. Andy Heckboy. That sounds like a Kentucky name if I ever heard one. Yeah, this is probably the best Icelandic Kentucky connection. Name another one. It's debatable.
Starting point is 00:30:22 Let's debate it then. Name one more. it then name one more I can name ten more just not now we don't have the time we don't have the bandwidth do they put the names anywhere on here? it's on the J part
Starting point is 00:30:38 the little loop it's on the J part I don't know what's this little part called? oh the back flap? the back flap I mean it's a J card wait do you think that part of the J is the J part. I don't know. What's that? What's this little part called? Oh, the back flap? The back flap. I mean, it's a J part. Wait.
Starting point is 00:30:46 Do you think that part of the J is the J part? That's the only part of the J. The other part's an I. And you put those together and it makes a J. I did not know that. I learned a lot. That's really cool. Okay.
Starting point is 00:30:58 So you'll play that. And then I'm going to pick this one. Okay. I'm going to pick one from mine. This is, I got to say this whole goddamn name this is the bran parentheses another plates another plate of medics dot dot dot close parentheses pause i'm telling you man this stuff will poison your mind i know it takes all day i'm surprised they could even fit this on the spine this is i think they just go by grandpa's now oh okay right yeah brand parenthesis dot dot dot pop pos but i think before prior to that oh back in let's say the 1990s which is before you are such a cute little boy before that they were going by this long ass name they probably shortened it up because who has the
Starting point is 00:31:55 time but they've been putting out these archival tapes this one is from let's see, I think 1990... Will you go to their discogs for me real quick, Brampus? Yeah. Jake Rodriguez. And let me know when you're there. I'm there. You land it? Yeah. Will you put on some, like, really inspirational music and read their profile?
Starting point is 00:32:44 Just the thing there? Yeah. Thanks. I can do that. Just the thing there. Yeah, I can do that. I knew you could. Okay, this is Brand Paws. Heralded by American Theater Magazine as the future of sound design, Jake Rodriguez
Starting point is 00:33:01 is renowned in the music of Underground by another name, the brand... His performances on bizarre sound technologies of his own creation, some controlled by his face, others by unmentionables, incorporate intricate melodies as part of a pure noise palette with releases on Recipient, CIP, Animal Disguise, and Cheetah Cheetah Soundcrack. Jake Rodriguez. So yeah, this tape was recorded in the summer of 1997 in Stanton Island, New York, and then it was, quote, shoved into a shoebox for 25 years. So I think you gotta pick, you gotta choose a late.
Starting point is 00:33:44 You gotta choose either you're heralded as the future of sound design or you're shoving these tapes into a shoebox. Are you sure? No, you can do it. I'm actually... Goodbye. Never mind. But yeah, this is... Everything's very everything's very dark except like you can't see
Starting point is 00:34:08 anything can't see anything let me see if i can see it you maybe i doubt it you are three months younger than my eyes are getting worse but oh this is tape number two in this i guess archival soundcrack.net check that out for more information they hand wrote the thing inside some people hate that i'm not going to comment on it they inside in pen see you get the thing you get the j card professionally print it you have a professional do it yeah yeah this one gets manufactured in canada so you got a canadian professional let me see that other stack of tapes we just played because i feel like another tape we just played says Manufacturing Canada. Oh, this one. That one too?
Starting point is 00:34:46 Yeah. This must be, this is some sort of Ponzi scheme. Are they both on Radical Documents? No. Okay. This one is, I think, just a self-release. Is Duplication.ca making you do this now? I think they're making, or Trudeau is making, or is forcing upon every manufacturing, in any event, a Canadian professional.
Starting point is 00:35:06 Well, maybe Canada can have their own Brexit one day, and they'll just exit out of themselves. I lost my shoe. A Canadian professional was working on this. They printed the J card. Very nice. They ran it through a copy machine, but still, they clocked in. They did their time.
Starting point is 00:35:22 They scored it. They cut it. They did all that. And then you get it you're like i'm gonna get a fucking pen let's go right inside it fuck you no you can do that that's fine i won't comment on it i won't comment on it at all i will just say some people think it's it is a shit move now are all Mounties bad I don't know because is the Mountie just the person or is it the horse too like does it take both of them to come together to be a Mountie
Starting point is 00:35:52 because let's let's play some taste and we'll play some taste and talk about it big time I want to pick one more though you want to pick one more oh one more a foursome do we already pick three? I thought we only got two here.
Starting point is 00:36:07 Oh, you're right. My bad. All right, I guess I'm picking one from my pile. Do I have any more? Okay. You know what? Yeah, do whatever you want. It's a toss-up.
Starting point is 00:36:15 It's a toss-up in this pile. I think what I'm going to play from this pile is a record I got last year. You know what? Let's not do that. Let's not do that. Here's what we'll do. We'll play this C Rider tape, and then we'll come back. I'll work a little behind
Starting point is 00:36:27 the scenes action. I'll pull some strings, you know what I mean? I'll get the pasta water going, and we'll come back, and they'll be with us. We'll play this C-Rider tape. We'll have so many questions. Feedback Systems, January
Starting point is 00:36:43 2022, on their very own label i think views views music v-u-z-h i'm gonna try that i'm gonna try i'm gonna try that in world tomorrow actually it looks pretty good yeah so let's play that close up the block we'll come back we'll talk to c rider we'll dig into these Atlantic rhythms tapes sound good oh here we go he's at it again you cannot get an experimental artist if an experimental artist wants to create Jamie I'll give you some space go ahead yeah well yeah go away I'll give you some space man all right stop stuff. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey,
Starting point is 00:37:56 Yeah, it would be nice maybe to put some reverb on the Y-s voices in my head. Movie greediness. Movie greediness. Movie greediness. Greetings, greetings, greetings. uh uh... the the now i was
Starting point is 00:39:00 yeah i didn't know how to uh... how to put this yet seems to be working now. This is it. Yeah, that's the thing. Movie ingredients. Movie ingredients. Movie ingredients. The Florida Cyborg Ingredient Film Series Note Checklist film pieces of objects for
Starting point is 00:39:31 different lengths of duration. For each scene filmed, take a photo with an iPhone or etc. and make a written note with it. The The first show to be released. so uh so so I'm not sure if I can do this. I'm not sure if I can do that. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm not sure if I can do this. I'm not going to let you get away with this! What did we just play?
Starting point is 00:49:44 Oh, you're going to have to do that one. Okay. You know, just do them all. You got it. Do you know what order we did them in? Just like I handed them to you. Like a professional, I handed them to you right in order. All right.
Starting point is 00:49:55 All right. And we're back. We played Sea Reader. We did say it the other way. Oh, the other? This order? Yeah, do it in that order. Okay.
Starting point is 00:50:06 This is the wrong order. Okay did say it the other way. Oh, this order? Yeah, do it in that order. Okay. This is the wrong order. Okay. One, two, three. Well, it's over. And one, two, three. And we're back. We have Sig Trigger, Berg, Sig Marson, Andy Heck Boyd,
Starting point is 00:50:21 this black ass tape by Bran Paws. You can't see anything on it. You can't see anything on it right you can't see anything on it taped by a very special artist c reader who is joining us here right now it's c writer i believe writer i told you that's correct oh really i see right see i think it's reader but well it's open to debate i guess yeah i suppose just like everything yeah we just uh played as as jamie said your new tape what is it called feedback systems january 2022 it's it's either we either got a bad copy and it's all fucked up or you attempted to do this what is what's the the feedback systems 20 to january 2022 tape i mean
Starting point is 00:51:07 it's just it's just screwing around with feedback uh you know i've kind of screwed around with feedback a little bit over the course of my however long i've done this stuff and uh just just kind of got in the mood and felt like playing around with feedback so that's that's what i did it's all vcv rack feedback is basically it so it's a bunch of different kind of varied systems that i set up to feedback and kind of make it uh different kinds of textures over the course of the tape all right i saw i was how do you say we're speaking the shit you can't say how do you say the name of your label uh vouge music hold on say it one more time vuge music okay because i saw on your very outdated blog you have to update your blog by the way yes you know the whole the whole label is kind of not
Starting point is 00:51:57 at the moment so either way either way you need to keep an eye you need to keep an up-to-date blog in any event. It was last update in like 2018, and the update was like talking about how you don't keep it updated. File's done. Okay, I'll do that for you, Mike. But it did say something. Thank you. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:52:18 I appreciate it. It did say something about how... How do you say the name of the label again? It's like bougie.uge that's how i remember i think it's you you put on there that it rhymes with rouge rouge that's a better one that really does not sound right i also noticed and this might be an easter egg or this might be something you don't even know about. You hand-numbered these tapes inside here, right? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:47 We're out of 20. I see you gave us 4 out of 20. Yeah, I did. Hold on, is that a cap behind you? That was me being generous to you and personal. I knew it would make a difference.
Starting point is 00:53:03 I was wondering because we do a 420 episode every year, but we missed it personally because i knew it would make a difference i was wondering because we were you know we missed we do a 420 episode every year but we missed it this year um but then you sent this tape and it gave me such inspiration and i was wondering if you would like to do the the weed strain or tape label quiz i've done these in the past. It's a little thing I do. People love them. And I'm going to name a tape label or I'm going to give you a name and you tell me if it's a tape label or a weed strain. I mean, if you're numbering this tape four out of 20 and then you can't do this quiz, what I'm going to do is I'm going to change it to 14 out of 20.
Starting point is 00:53:46 Okay? Alright, you ready for this, Jamie? Keep that music in the back. Keep it through. Alright, number one. Turn that down, Jamie. Jesus Christ. I guess I can turn it down.
Starting point is 00:54:04 Okay, let's do it. All right, number one. American Damage. That has got to be a tape label. That has got to be a tape label. You know what? You are correct. That is a tape label, my friend.
Starting point is 00:54:18 And the next one. Space Needle. That's weed. See, right? You're saying weed strain. That's weed. See, Ryder, you're saying weed strain. That's two out of two. Not bad. We're off to a hell of a start here. Number three, Blue Hole. I'm saying weed.
Starting point is 00:54:39 You're saying weed for Blue Hole. I'm sorry. Blue Hole is a tape label. I'm going to open up your case and get a little bit closer to changing that number. Best wish at Blue Hole. Did you have to start this song over? I did have to start it over.
Starting point is 00:54:58 Pull back the curtain. Wish Mountain. That's a tape label. With confidence. Oh, I tape link. With confidence. Oh, I'm sorry. Double wrong one. What? What is it?
Starting point is 00:55:12 Wish Mountain is a weed strain. All right. I'm sorry. This is not looking good. Let's do one more because I want to end on this one. And Jamie, cut out the music for this one. Too rough. Too one. Too rough. Too mean.
Starting point is 00:55:27 Too scary. Pretty scary. Pretty scary. Mayonnaise glaze. That's gross. Weed. Weed strain. We got another tape label i'm i'm i'm i'm sorry we are going to have to probably go back
Starting point is 00:55:50 and unplay this tape this is you know you know what my you know what my you know what was the first clue that i that i thought you were going to fail this mission. It says something on your blog about demo submissions and you say you're like absolutely no ambient music. Like what's with that? You make
Starting point is 00:56:17 ambient music. I'm in a mood. I mean, ambient music, that's where Jamie will tell you better than anybody, that's where the, Jamie will tell you better than anybody, that's where the money is. There's that cat again. No. Look, look, do you know that there's a cat, there is a cat behind you.
Starting point is 00:56:33 Is there? Do you not know this? Right there, right there. Do you see it? Right there. Oh my god. Personally, I think where the bucks are right now, if you want to get in on the ground floor you get in on that dungeon synth oh you'll be raking it in have you thought about that have you thought about dungeon synth how close have you gotten to that i'm not even you know
Starting point is 00:56:53 i'm i'm an old person i don't even know exactly what dungeon synth is so no yeah you you probably get like a young person talk to a zoomer with all this like esoteric like uh magic stuff i just can't i can't i can't figure it out which house is out dungeons synth is in which house yeah which which house oh i got it so you're yeah you stick you're sticking to just some raw feedback there's some field recordings you're gonna get a bird a stream so what uh you got any other tapes coming out soon what should we expect well i want more i want another one yeah um i have something in the works that I'm working on that it's actually 180 degrees different from the feedback tape. It's sort of a lot more prettier, sort of synth-y stuff.
Starting point is 00:57:54 Dungeon synth? Dungeons? Is it Dungeon-y? Is there Dungeons in it? It's not Dungeon-y. It's more like Berlin arpeggio kind of stuff. I don't know. If you'd like. I think you just, yeah, throw some peat moss on it.
Starting point is 00:58:12 What do you do? I might be a bit scared. Yeah, are you too scared? Is that the problem? You're just too scared? So you stick to... You're too scared of Dungeon Synth. You're too scared of ambient music. I don't know. whatever find the middle ground I live in a world
Starting point is 00:58:32 ruled by fear that is pretty scary see, where are you calling us from? I'm in Colorado Bertha, Colorado it's a tiny little agricultural town you like it there? no, not really don't turn it on and yeah jamie it sounded like an idyllic no but everybody hates
Starting point is 00:58:53 their life right now don't ask if they know don't ask anybody if they'd like something right now okay fine jeez no they just said that they live in fear in colorado listen i apologize northern colorado right yeah exactly okay it's militia town okay amy come on jesus christ i'll bring you out there sometime introduce you to the guys yeah i know mainstream colorado red rocks we'll see john elway yeah we'll uh see rider thanks thanks again so much for chatting a little bit thank you i think i stabbed out uh listeners i think what uh you don't have to do that don't thank the listeners please please don't give them anything extra they they get enough um so i think me and we won't bother you with this because this is that friggin ambient music
Starting point is 00:59:45 and we know how much you hate it so we're just the submissions yeah we actually like the music we're going to play a few of these and then I think we're going to do maybe a little trick after these three Atlantic rhythms tapes maybe there'll be a little trick at the end I got a tape here by C Rider it's called listening after the end all right do a tape here by C-Rider. It's called Listening After the End. Alright. Do you see this one? So it's a little trick we're going to do where after the show is over, it's an Easter egg. It's an extra. It's a bonus.
Starting point is 01:00:13 It's a bonus and everybody likes and has a good time. Alright, C-Rider. Thanks again. Thank you. Thank you. Thanks for having me on, guys. Talk to you later. Lovely. Do you like living there?
Starting point is 01:00:29 That was a gaffe. That was a bloop. That was a big biff. No, if you're going to continue to be doing these interviews, Jamie, you strictly got to be like, so how do you feel about tape manufacturers? National Audio Company puts the B-side facing out. How do you feel about that?
Starting point is 01:00:46 Like, that's as deep as you... Even that might be too dark. Do you like the tabs in or out? That's even over the line. Give me another one. We'll try to find a happy space. Do you like when there's no writing on the B-side? Don't make it anything about what you like.
Starting point is 01:00:59 Are you fine with? Oh. Are you fine with really tiny fonts? That's a good one, yeah. No, even that's a little too little too that gets me a little heated don't make me think of more stuff ladies and gentlemen justin beaver all right so like we promised let's go out on you know let's pick two we'll pick one each we'll pick two of these atlantic rhythms atlantic rhythms by the way where are they a label out of dc dc washington dc Washington, D.C. Mid-Atlantic. Jamie, where were you on January 6th a couple years ago?
Starting point is 01:01:31 My lawyers told me I can't talk about that anymore. Okay, I know which one I'm picking. I'm going to grab it right here. I'm going to hand you the stack. Oh, my goodness gracious. And you go ahead and take a look. You want me to read off these artists so the people that didn't get played know that they didn't get played? Well, do you know right now which ones aren't going to get played yeah yeah just by looking at them you can know okay i think i know this uh i don't know i think earner is not getting played
Starting point is 01:01:54 earner yeah like someone who earns no like an earn like for ashes someone who makes earns yeah that's great yeah no thank you that's a very specific line of work it's a very scary line for ashes. Someone who makes urns? Yeah. Someone who makes urns is an earner. That's great. Yeah, no thank you. That's a very specific line of work. It's a very scary line of work.
Starting point is 01:02:09 I'm not interested. You still have to pick one, though. Why'd you put them all back down? Oh, wait, what am I doing? Are you kidding me?
Starting point is 01:02:15 I'm picking some tapes. I'm picking the ones that aren't going to play. I know this is the 420 episode, but... Okay. Are you eliminating them one by one?
Starting point is 01:02:24 I'm eliminating them one by one i'm eliminating them one by one all right go ahead all right i think ma ma you're not getting played today is ma getting played who my mom no she's not getting it sounds like a hard she can kiss my grits can move on next one all right the next one is not getting played gus callahan get out of here you're not getting played you know what and i Get out of here, Gus. You're not getting played. You know what? And I want to say right now, we're never going to fucking play you. I'm going to put this tape in the garbage right now. I spit on Gus.
Starting point is 01:02:56 What's next? Boo Ray and Carlos Ferreira. Fuck you. You're out of here. You're out of here. You're out of here. You suck. You suck. You suck.
Starting point is 01:03:09 I hate them so much. I would rather, I would rather get run over in the street by a car, have it go all the way over my body and then back up again and play that tape. And I saved the worst one for last, okay? This is the worst one. Meaning you okay? This is the worst one. Meaning you're going to play the worst one? No, we're not playing this ever. We should play the worst one.
Starting point is 01:03:32 George Corey Todd. Oh my God. George Corey Todd. Get out of here. Loser. Duke, want to step outside? I can't believe you didn't eliminate that one first. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:42 Well, George Corey Todd, I'm a little gentleman with a tape on and I like rhythms. Would your mom play it on your podcast? No, no. Get the fuck out of here. Hold on. Let's talk to all
Starting point is 01:03:54 the George Corey Todd fans. Huh? Oh, one of them took a big dump on my floor. Real cool. That's rude. All right, you got two left. All joking aside.
Starting point is 01:04:05 No more joking. We got two left here, right? The two left we are playing, right? No, I have one. I already picked one. Oh, you already picked one? I skimmed the cream off the top already. Okay. I'm saying Rob McGill, you're out of here. Oh, no. I thought Rob McGill
Starting point is 01:04:22 was going to be in there. Rob McGill will play you next time. No. No, we're not. Take these two. Those are the two we're playing. We're playing Shobh Ahmad. And who else? Zacharias Thompson.
Starting point is 01:04:39 And I am. Now, give me this with the Zacharias Thompson tape. I want you to look at this J card. I'm going to strategically place my thumb over it and show you. Right? It looks like, I don't know if it is letterpress or if it's just the printing is a letterpress type style. Are these like duotones? Look at these.
Starting point is 01:04:57 That's nice. Look at these two holes drilled in the paper. There's a big hole. Asymmetrical. And a medium hole. And the holes have hole printing around them. Wow. And when you fold the one panel,
Starting point is 01:05:11 the little hole, this is what I've been talking about with art. Art, you do not need to have all of the paint and all of the education, you go to school to learn about it, because art can be two well-placed
Starting point is 01:05:26 holes. Two well-placed holes in a J-card. You know what this reminds me of? And this is before your time, because you're like 12. It's a synthesizer. Taking a bubble bath with my synthesizer. This reminds me of No Kings.
Starting point is 01:05:41 This label. Oh yeah, I remember that. No Kings vibe. Can you Google this name here? I mean, Jesus Christ, you're over there playing with... I guess I can. Yeah. I mean, I can do some stuff in the meantime. I'm Googling No Kings.
Starting point is 01:05:55 Nice game. Actually, what am I Googling? I wasn't paying attention. Either one of those artists' names, whichever one you want to play first. Zacharias Thompson. Did I spell it wrong? I picked the hardest one to spell z-e-k-a-r-i-a-s thompson i spelled that right it's not in discogs oh my god are these uh this probably sucks too should we not play these new releases i don't know i don't know i don't know. I don't know. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:06:26 Why don't you go to Bandcamp? Not on Discogs. Oh my God. I can't believe you go to Discogs before Bandcamp. Because the label, Jamie, the label's
Starting point is 01:06:36 going to update their Bandcamp and then they got away for perverts like you to do Discogs. Okay, so Zacharias Thompson, that's the most recent release
Starting point is 01:06:43 on this label, was released on May 13th 2022 in the future oh come on jamie it was released in the future it was released in the future then they went back to the past sent it to you wow my eyes are going crazy that's how probably how they got the holes in it. Yeah. Wow. Some kind of alien technology. Yeah, I was looking at these holes, and I was like, we currently do not have hole technology that could do this.
Starting point is 01:07:10 You know the only thing that would have been, actually, no, this is beautiful. Look through the holes at the tape. You see the actual reel, the spool of tape in there. It, like, like a curious squirrel that peers through the holes.
Starting point is 01:07:28 I think if you put that in one of the pyramids at the right time of day, the sun shining through, points to a spot on the floor, you dig in that floor, right in that spot, you find... Jamie, I think me and you are going on an adventure, my friend. Yeah. Do you think the instructions are on the tape? No. Okay. No, those are elsewhere.
Starting point is 01:07:44 Bummer. Maybe on the tape no okay no those are elsewhere yeah bummer maybe on the download code those are too stinky for me yeah all right then what'd you find out about the the one you're playing uh the oh no i almost i almost said george corey oh my god no fucking way if that would have been i'll play a loser like that where is is it? Not on this show. Is it literally right in front of me? No, that's another one that was fired. There it is. Oh, yeah. Shobh Ahmad. We fire them, huh?
Starting point is 01:08:14 Fire. They're fired. You're banned. That's... They're banned from the show. What the fuck is this? It's like Elon Musk. You're blocked.
Starting point is 01:08:21 Oh, no. They've been banned from the show. Yeah. Okay. Okay, so this was released in february 18th 2022 in in the past okay so they released in the past they went to the future then they sent it back to us this is quite a list of characters here interesting i thought it was a person named shobak mod no it's sia akma daniel cunningham evan dorian hannah de feter tom fell peter holo luke keenan
Starting point is 01:08:47 brown and kelly lloyd hold on do you want to try that one more time hold on hold on if you're a delaware homeowner and you haven't made the switch to i get that it's a very regional ad. Here we go. Sia Ahmad. Hold on, give it a second. Sia Ahmad. Daniel Cunningham.
Starting point is 01:09:21 Evan Dorian. Hannah Defeater, Tom Fell, Peter Holm, Luke Keenan-Brown, and Kelly... Ambient Noise. Ambient Noise. Ambient Noise. Ambient Noise. Hell yeah. you did a very good job jamie you have been like hey i gotta say like you've been really providing extra like i don't know what they even call you what are you you're like i'm a venture capitalist you're funneling money into the show then why have why have we been bad-mouthing them so much over this year so mitt romney's probably a pretty nice guy yeah i'm sorry jamie mitt romney is one of the good ones mike okay well good all right and then and then there's a little secret and then the show's
Starting point is 01:10:14 over after those tapes right the show's over but then there'll be a little secret listening after the end by c rider okay after the credits after the credits on how do you say it how do you say the rouge marat's rouge oh i love you too much all right bye-bye bye So lost and lost What happened when you woke So long ago The kids they came to talk You walked the street alone That long ago You want to see love That long ago You should think
Starting point is 01:11:32 That's all we saw But they found You're inside Today So exciting day You looked around And then I Didn't see your face What happened when we talked? So much of what
Starting point is 01:12:14 Our first touch was all It's now you've forgotten Who will know What's ahead to find Do you see What's never So far Was never So in fact It used to be
Starting point is 01:12:55 That you and I Was really in fact So in fact I'm sorry. So long, world. Searching for the second. Searching for the second. In the middle of the night. Each person in the world. You will live for me Each last day for me For me
