Starting point is 00:00:00 🎵 What the fuck is this? That was Tommy Lee's new metal band, Methods of Mayhem. Who's singing? Is Tommy Lee singing? No, it's a different guy. Who's the different guy? I don't know his name. Oof, my wrong.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Tabs Out Cassette Podcast, episode number 179. Nine. Yeah, very good. 179 is the episode number. Scary Wolf. I'm Mike. I'm Jamie. Jamie, how are you doing?
Starting point is 00:01:02 Pretty good, pretty good, pretty good. There was some hesitation there. Want to play something? I hope you're... I can't stop crying. It's all right. Everything's going to be okay. I got a whole...
Starting point is 00:01:17 In case you were worried I didn't have a whole ass, big ass, big boy stack of tapes. If you came over here with like kind of like chin down i'm gonna whimper in mike's not gonna have a big ass a whole ass big boy stack of tapes well guess what pal i do i have a whole lot of tapes and i see you brought some too file done What is this? File's done. Jamie? We're going to get a cease and desist if you keep doing this.
Starting point is 00:01:54 Are these all Tommy Lee? No, no. That's Cole Chamber. Okay. I don't know. You must have a lot. you're... I see your fingers up. I don't know what's going on. The new metal revival.
Starting point is 00:02:16 You're starting it right now. It started. The revolution. You didn't bring any new metal tapes, did you? I didn't. Nobody's putting it out. I bet you they are. I bet you there's some New Metal, Record Store Day shit coming out.
Starting point is 00:02:27 Check on that. Look up. Do a little bit of research real quick. Let's find this out. All right. New Metal. And why is it spelled N-U? No clue.
Starting point is 00:02:35 Is that... Did the fans come up with that? Or is that something the media came up with? Oh, Korn put out their self-titled in 2014 for Record Store Day. Exactly day exactly yeah that's exact corn the godfathers of new metal probably the biggest name in the genre right i feel like the only way i'm gonna get you you to stop this is if I let you pick a cassette tape to play. Do you want to do that?
Starting point is 00:03:06 Yeah, yeah. By picking out your pile? Well, I put them all. Yeah. You know what, Jamie? I do enjoy. I kind of get a little thrill up my leg when people pick tapes out of my pile. Well, I think I got to go with this new Aaron Dilloway tape for Tom Smith.
Starting point is 00:03:25 RIP. Yes. Awesome. Yes, this is a new Aaron Dilloway on Hanson. And it's odd because it's numbered. I didn't think Aaron Dilloway was numbering the tape. No, he does Unlimited. No, I thought it was Unlimited.
Starting point is 00:03:39 I don't know what's good. This is sort of a cash grab or something. But this is a tape. I think it's sort of like a dedication tom smith who passed away back in january who was a extremely prolific artist to live and shave in la started in like the early 90s yeah yeah um with rap bastard uh a ton of projects a ton of collaborations i'm not the one to kind of like memorialize the guy. I don't,
Starting point is 00:04:06 you know, I didn't really, I'm not, that's, that's not, that's not my thing, but Aaron Dillway put out this tape, which is beautiful.
Starting point is 00:04:11 They're, they're both good friends. Yeah. They collaborated a bunch. Yeah. And then, uh, the,
Starting point is 00:04:17 uh, the B side is, uh, Coley says, call the cops. I'm assuming a Byron Coley. Jamie, get on that and find out what's going on. Oh, come on, Jamie.
Starting point is 00:04:31 Find out what the hell's going on. But this is a beautiful tape. I mean, it's got the hands and spine, and it's looking very nice. It's got this monster on the cover. I have a question, and maybe we can settle this right now. Okay. Maybe you can help me.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Maybe you can hold my hand on this. Is Aaron Dilloway scary? Well, look at this picture right here. Okay. Can you see? Look at my screen. That's why I asked. So, yes.
Starting point is 00:04:57 Yeah. But he wears these masks, and the masks are scary. And he does, he chomps on these contact mics. He's chomping on them. He's making these faces like a demon got inside of him. You would break your power. You know, he's going crazy. But also he seems like such a, like a, like a golly gosh.
Starting point is 00:05:21 Like I could sell him magic beans and get away with it. You think he could do that? You could pull that in? But then he would come and murder me. So, yeah, maybe he is kind of, you know what, survey says. Yeah. Yeah, Aaron Dillway is scary.
Starting point is 00:05:32 Not really. Says you, call the cops. So you want to play Blue Studies for Tom Smith off this 2022 cover drawing by Bill Nace. Man, they brought out all the all-stars for this huh yeah and it's sold out already addition of 65 limit of one per customer could have made four more could have made four more just three healthy friend of the show can we call aaron dilloway a friend of the show he ain't gonna do shit about it yeah if you know what i mean there
Starting point is 00:06:02 nothing he's gonna do about it big fan of the show big contributor yeah he's constantly okay man when can i get back on the show yeah he's always cool out guy yeah thirsty as hell all right i'll get to pick one now right yeah okay i was gonna pick the dilloway tape due to that very rude you know what let's go for the big guy big guy the vinyl hold let me see if I can even. Can you pick that up? Hold on. Let me see. Let me see if I can. I thought you were going to play a funny sound clip. I can't pick one. That's not funny. Vinyl's done.
Starting point is 00:06:36 So many of these. What do I have here? I have. Elementals orory. Self-titled. what's that second word orory orory orory what is orory i don't know what is an orory i feel pretty orory this morning you look you gotta yeah well i'm looking at those denims those denims you got all that big bulge in the Ori area. If you know what I mean. Now, I don't know what that word is, but this is a duo of collaborative effort of Nicholas Carcovia,
Starting point is 00:07:15 a Chilean musician who runs a label called Non-Local Research, and Spencer Clark, one half of the story drone story drone duo the skaters god godfathers of the of the genre show some respect jamie stand up all right stand up i stand i kneel for the cross welcome keep getting that on there all right this came out on spencer clark's label pacific city sound visions and uh it's also the second release i don't know uh gallopex orpheus media oh that's a cool name that's a cool name that's like that's future music that's like you got a leather trench coat on the person running that label's
Starting point is 00:08:00 got a leather trench coat the little glasses all. All the new. He likes noise. We're a noisy family. I ordered this guy knowing that like, you know, it's the thrill of like, am I gonna get it? I don't know. So you're buying tapes with all this mail stuff coming and you're still buying them. I got an addiction to this stuff.
Starting point is 00:08:22 Yeah, yeah. I got a problem. Got an itch you just can't scratch. I got an... You know what? That's the problem. That's exactly what it is. I do get a... You know what I've been doing?
Starting point is 00:08:31 I've been ignoring a lot of the tapes people have been sending me. And I've been buying these tapes, I guess, in the search of some sort of, like... I don't know if it's sexual pleasure. I don't know what's gonna eventually... When I'm... I don't know what I'm looking for if I keep buying the tapes. I don't know what I'm looking for.
Starting point is 00:08:46 If I keep buying the tapes, I don't know what I'm expecting. It's been years and I haven't found it. But maybe this one. Maybe Spencer Clark. Maybe they can do something with this. Not really. Very psychedelic. I like it.
Starting point is 00:09:03 I dig the art, man. Yeah, I dig the art. It comes in the big i dig the art man yeah i dig the art it comes in the tall vinyl the clear vinyl box that only holds one i like it when it holds one a true fucked up zoink head like a person who smokes really weird drugs that you all can only get on certain islands yeah this uh embossed filter on the uh yeah i love the embossed filter from like the 90s they love the embossed filter on the... I love the embossed filter from the 90s. They love the embossed filter, the tall vinyl cases. They love that shit. Pick another one, Jamie.
Starting point is 00:09:30 I'm going to do this one. I'm going to be a bit scary. This one's not scary. The Dilloway... I'm on the fence still for if Dilloway's scary. I think he might be. He's scary in like a Silence of the Lambs kind of like come for you in a fucked up way.
Starting point is 00:09:46 But this one, the elemental aura is that's not scary. So I got, last episode Atlantic Rhythms had sent us a truckload of tapes. Yeah, you handed a lot of them. We were really making fun of a lot of them.
Starting point is 00:10:01 You were, I wasn't. I listened to a few of them, and this one from Gus't. I listened to a few of them. This one from Gus Callahan rose to the top. A fine cream. Jamie, please. It did. What about it did you like? I don't remember anything about it. There's too much music.
Starting point is 00:10:19 You're a fucking liar, man. You're a fucking liar. I make notes. When I like something, I make notes when i like something i make notes i say this is a five out of five and that was your note there's a five out of five i can't argue why don't you write like what a little bit what it sounds like i could do that but even if you just wrote like this is like just say something say something you ever read reviews for this shit no it's like you know um hold on gus callahan musical instrument weaves flesh-ridden micro micro scrunks scrunks through a field of undulating undulating spring orgasms
Starting point is 00:10:58 it doesn't matter and somebody's like oh cool man yeah let me take a seat let me think this label's tight though. We talked about like how they kind of look like no Kings within the design realm. Very chill. Very chill. Good tape. Sorry,
Starting point is 00:11:13 Gus. Sorry. We, we razzed you a little bit last episode. You did. You did the best. Don't come at me. You did the best job and we didn't even know.
Starting point is 00:11:20 So we're playing, we're playing it. So get off my fucking back. My anaconda. All right. You want to do these three yeah three Now this Thank you. so so so Thank you. so Thank you. so Thank you. Thank you. um so Hmm... Hmm... Hmm... Hmm... Hmm...
Starting point is 00:16:25 Hmm... Hmm... Hmm... Hmm... Hmm... Hmm... Hmm... Hmm...
Starting point is 00:16:33 Hmm... Hmm... Hmm... Hmm... Hmm... You are... You are... You are... You are... You are... I'm on your mind! ¶¶ Thank you. so oh oh Oh, you're here to fight? Ah! You want some? I'm sorry. ¶¶ so
Starting point is 00:25:41 what so Oh, my God! I'm going to die. I'm sorry. © BF-WATCH TV 2021 Thank you. I'm sorry. Thank you. So let's go. Thank you. We're back. We had a block from Aaron Dilloway, Elemental's Orrery, and Gus Callahan. We figured out what an orrery is too, huh? House. Punk. Go to Wikipedia.
Starting point is 00:25:54 Bebop. It's a little steampunk thing you turn with a gear and it makes all the planets move around. It's fake. All that shit's fake. All that science stuff's fake. The world is shaped like a triangle. The very tippy top is where the
Starting point is 00:26:07 sorcerer lives and if you can beat him you can live at the top of the triangle. Everybody knows this. We all live at the bottom of the triangle. That was a very healthy block. If anyone can identify all the loops on the Dilloway tape. Yeah. Do you think he gets mad if people pull back the curtain?
Starting point is 00:26:27 Yeah, he might get super pissed. What the fuck? Dude, want to step outside? Somebody's like, I really like that loop on Modern Jester. It says, like, I don't know. Don't even try to look it up. Don't say what it's from. That's from my private collection of reel-to-reels.
Starting point is 00:26:41 Yeah. Or my 8-track shit. Guy likes 8-tracks and stuff. He's got chickens in his music. He's not scary. I changed my mind. I wonder if... Do you know if his brick-and-mortar store is open back up? Yes. Good. Good for him.
Starting point is 00:26:54 I do know. And the answer is I think it is. Yeah. Yes. He's selling a lot of brick-and-mortar. Can't get enough... I mean, maybe in this... You know, these experimental people, yeah, they do all that kind of stuff. And Gus Callahan ended
Starting point is 00:27:09 it up. Sorry that Jamie was such a dick to you last time. Every podcast needs one asshole, one nice guy, and I just happen to be the nice guy here. The good cop and the bad cop. Exactly. At the end of the day, we're both cops. And we're good. And we have one day to retirement. Ladies and gentlemen,
Starting point is 00:27:25 Rollins fan. I hit the wrong one, but that'll take it. Too mean. Okay, Jamie. Yeah. You want to do another, you want to do what we just did? How, like, you picked one again? I like this.
Starting point is 00:27:39 I like how we do a big pile. It's like a potluck. It's a potluck, yeah. It's a potluck. Only two men are there. Two men. It happens early in the morning in a sad room. All right. I'm going to pick the one that I think that you would have picked for the next one.
Starting point is 00:27:50 Okay. I'm going to do this MC Schmidt tape. That is the one I was going to pick. Is it really? Yeah. Why do you got to do this to me every time? Oh, come on, Jamie. Hoping I'm not incorrect about this, but I think it's one half of Matmos.
Starting point is 00:28:05 No, you're correct. Okay. You're correct. Keep going. Is he a lord? Is he a lord? Lord M.C. Schmidt? Yeah, keep going.
Starting point is 00:28:12 Keep going. I don't know anything more about him. That's all you got? Yeah, that's all I got. He's married to Drew Daniel. I believe that's also correct. Who's on this tape? There's a bunch of...
Starting point is 00:28:21 It says just M.C. Schmidt, but there's a bunch of people on here. Yeah. It's one of those things where you take all themidt, but there's a bunch of people on here. It's one of those things where you take all the credit. But there's other people on here. It's from Fountains to Sewers. Speaking of all the people,
Starting point is 00:28:38 should we take a list of all... Go to the band camps. Can you do that for me, Jamie? What label is this on again? This is on a label called E2-E4. Sort of like a Star Wars reference. Oh, it's like a battleship.
Starting point is 00:28:54 Bit of a sci-fi bend to it. Okay, MC Schmidt. Then we got John Hogeberg. We got Thomas DiMuzio. That's a familiar name will shore drew daniel nate nelson and john burt that's right and what you want to read there's because this is like one of those matt most does a lot of things when they're like a washing machine is an instrument and i'm like i'll play all right, whatever. But do you want to...
Starting point is 00:29:25 What are the instruments on here? What's everybody play? Go through them, and I'll tell you if they're instruments or not. All right. MC Schmidt, synthesizers, piano... No, one at a time. One at a time. Synthesizers.
Starting point is 00:29:36 Synthesizers, I'm coming around to them. They're more of a computer, but okay. Yeah, that's an instrument. Pianos, real and simulated. Real and simulated? Simulated pianos real and simulated real and simulated simulated what's that i've heard of simulated sex like in the movies but what is the simulated well if you think about it we're all living in a simulation so every piano is a simulated piano we don't we've never heard a real piano
Starting point is 00:29:56 you just gave me existential dread right in the middle of the show. You're fucking me up, man. Okay, next instrument. What is it? All right, sampler, but without the E, so it's the thing that you do on the iPad. So it's a typo? No, no, no, no, no. It's an app.
Starting point is 00:30:14 So go back, put the E. I see it's S-A-M-P-L-R. No, no, no, no, no, no. It's an app. It's an app. You import samples, and then you drag them around, and you manipulate them with your fingers.
Starting point is 00:30:28 Yeah, well, go back, manipulate that thing, put the E in there, come back, let me know it's a sampler. Learn the spell next time. And then I'll say, no, a sampler, not an instrument. Sorry. All right, next. A school. School? A school. A school?
Starting point is 00:30:38 No, no, not a school. No, no, that's now. I'm sorry. A school is not an instrument. We do need to harden them, but it is not an instrument. Next one. Field recordings. So let me take a seat school is not an instrument. We do need to harden them, but it is not an instrument. Next one. Field recordings. Is that an instrument?
Starting point is 00:30:52 That's a good question. I think the playback is the instrument, but the recording, that's an input, not an output. The bird is the instrument. Okay, here's the next instrument. Rocks. No. I think rocks are an instrument. Rock and roll is an instrument but not just rocks next bucket
Starting point is 00:31:11 yeah not not multiple buckets just like one bucket if it was multiple buckets i would say yes but also one bucket yes is an instrument uh editing is is that an instrument if you do it right yeah stuff like editing and mastering isn't as an instrument. Editing. Is that an instrument? If you do it right, yeah, stuff like editing and mastering is an instrument, yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:28 What about mixing? Mixing is an instrument, yeah. I think mixing is an instrument. There's a lot, okay, so there's some instruments
Starting point is 00:31:32 on, there's some stuff that is, there's some, that's just MC Schmidt's instruments, we could keep going all day.
Starting point is 00:31:37 There's more? I'm only like a third way through the list. Okay, we're done, we're done right there. So this just came out very, very very recently like you
Starting point is 00:31:46 said mc schmidt half of matmos and they put it on tape on like the uh the new matmos release which we're the weirdos still buying cd there you go oh yeah they didn't put that one out on tape um yeah that was i made it yeah i'm not gonna get into it i bought it it's good but they should put it out on tape for mike. Yeah, make me one. And like, I saw someone made a comment to me on the internet when I mentioned that it wasn't on tape, and they were like, I guess you don't know how to use the other recording. I can't stop crying. I want someone to send it to me.
Starting point is 00:32:21 I'm not doing it. It's an edition of 120, this M.C. Schmidt. M.C. Schmidt. M.C. Schmidt from Bouncy. From Baltimore, Maryland. Three healthy meals and snacks. Snacks. I see side one is called the Palace of Smells,
Starting point is 00:32:38 which, Jay, I hear that's what they call your bedroom. Oh, come on. I learned some skills. So, yeah, let's play that though what is this this cover there's something weird about it like ai made it which i don't the cut it says the cover image was generated with wombo dream using prompts what you know elon musk thinks that ai is a slippery slope you know what i like to do? Actually pay artists, human artists to make my, not pay Wombo Dream, a computer, to make my covers. I pay people.
Starting point is 00:33:13 Deep learning algorithms. All right, you picking one next? Yeah. I'm going to go with one you brought. No, I would never do that. I'm going to go with you know I'm going to I'm going to go with one you brought alright no I'm never I would never do that I'm going to go with one of mine
Starting point is 00:33:27 okay I'm going to go with this tape here raw but it's not just raw it's like colon raw colon colon raw colon
Starting point is 00:33:35 how do you alphabetize that on your shelf that is that's tough how do you oh I love that is a good question I don't know.
Starting point is 00:33:45 I put it with the label. The spine and the back flap has a bit of a old school noise vibe going with it. Very minimal text on the back. Strange Noise Records. They sent us. This is another label that sends a bunch of stuff. He likes noise. I do like the noise.
Starting point is 00:34:00 This is a very good label. It's somewhat new, I believe. I believe they started in 2021, year the year okay and jamie if you can pull up their band camp you can probably find some more information okay let's do it this raw songs i like how i'm going to band camp now instead of discogs but a lot of times it takes a while for these hot off the presses to get on discogs so i well this is from 2021 but what i'm saying is, like, you can go to... When I say look it up on Bandcamp or whatever, I'm just using that as a general term.
Starting point is 00:34:29 As a general, like Kleenex. Yeah, like Xerox. Alright, so this... Wait, this is just a track. Hold on, hold on. Google. Jamie, stop! What are you doing? You fucking up? Yeah. Jamie, please. Okay, Songs of the South by Ra. What am I talking about here?
Starting point is 00:34:45 All songs composed by Raheem Curtis. Yes, this is Raheem Curtis' debut album. You want me to read the hype? The hype. Songs of the South is a debut album from Harsh Noise. I just said that. And Death Industrial by Ra. Death Industrial.
Starting point is 00:35:01 So the scary is kind of industrial. I got scarier. All right. Started in 2020. That's when Strange Noise Records started. Sends a bunch of stuff. Like you said, just like straight up. Like when I'm talking about a fucking noise tape.
Starting point is 00:35:24 A fuck, just a fucking noise. I'm talking about this. i'm talking about a fucking noise tape i'll fuck just a fucking noise i'm talking about this i'm talking about it's like the shell it's just a black tape with like the label is blank the band aid little band-aid part of the labels on the other side that bullshit like that if joe b was here he'd have words about that but he's not here. Yeah, like, you know, Songs of the South is described as heavy metallic beats and ear-shattering sonics to paint a picture of the black experience in the rural South.
Starting point is 00:35:54 So that's what we're going to get from Roz's Songs of the South cassette on Strange Noise. Oh, and this is from Alabama. Do you know that? It's from Alabama, yes. And the label themselves is from Columbia, South Carolina. So that's a deep south.
Starting point is 00:36:10 Yes, big time. Yeah. I'm also seeing a problem with... Oh, my God. Jamie, do you have, like, an alarm sound you can play, like, to let us know there's a big problem going on? Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. No, that's not it.
Starting point is 00:36:25 Here. There's a Discogs problem. Discogs problem alert. This raw tape is listed under the wrong Strange Noise records on Discogs. That's a problem. Can you fix that? Yeah, I'll fix that. It's listed under Strange Noise records, but I think this is a strange noise this one's another strange noise they're like strange noise too
Starting point is 00:36:48 strange noise too you're gonna fix this I can do it you're so nice I said I can do it but maybe I will maybe I will yeah so is that the okay yeah I'll check it out yeah cuz the other one is from 1998 Strange noise From the Netherlands Anyway We got one more? Yeah, pick another one I'm sorry, Jamie
Starting point is 00:37:17 You're picking one of yours I'm picking one of mine I came here, I'm hijacking the show Pick one of mine Too scary Don't back down We're going to get to play all of them I came here. I'm hijacking the show. Pick one of mine. Too scary. Don't back down. We're going to get to play all of them. I record as much as I can.
Starting point is 00:37:31 Don't back down for me that easily. I just don't like conflict. It's not worth it. Can I pick which one you play? See, now I'm going to stand up for myself. No, you're not. Sit down. Please put your booty in the chair. I want to play this tape. All right, go ahead. What are you going you play? Well, see, now I'm going to stand up for myself. No, you're not. Sit down. Sit down.
Starting point is 00:37:46 Please put your booty in the chair. I want to play this tape. All right, go ahead. What are you going to play? It's another tape that blew my mind. It blew your mind? Out of the mailbag from last show you gave this tape to me. Wait, is that the tape?
Starting point is 00:37:58 You sent it home with me because you sent me home all of the B Squad material. No, I don't. Don't say that. I think this is a diamond in the rough No, I don't. Don't say that. I think this is a diamond in the rough right here. Hold on. Don't say that. I don't send you home the B Squad material. You send me home with all the stuff that you don't like.
Starting point is 00:38:14 Jamie, please. You pick all the stuff you like. Jamie, please. Jamie, please. Jamie, stop. That's not true. Okay. Take that back.
Starting point is 00:38:21 All right, I'll take it back. I don't like conflict. I do give them some of the real... I keep the good stuff for myself but this uh bardo total tape on never anything experimental stuff not puccini it was really really good and again just like the gus callahan tape i couldn't tell you a single thing about it but i just remembered i was vibing the entire time i think from what i remember both sides were a little bit on the long side and I didn't want it to end. Oh, but did it?
Starting point is 00:38:47 It ended. Spoiler alert. Sorry that it ended, Jamie. You thought this was going to be like a tape loop thing? Not really. Yeah. So you can't tell me anything about anything. Never anything. Yeah, never anything. I can't tell you never anything.. Never anything. Yeah, never anything.
Starting point is 00:39:05 I can't tell you never anything. Well, I want to find something out. Yeah. Bardo told all. I'll look it up right now. I'll look it up on Bandcamp. I'm not using Discogs anymore. I'm done.
Starting point is 00:39:13 Well, we just had a Discogs emergency, and I'm still feeling kind of like bothered by it, to be perfectly honest. Yeah. I thought that was a reputable site. Yeah. I don't know what I'm clicking on these days. This came out this year.
Starting point is 00:39:25 Never Anything number site. Yeah. I don't know what I'm clicking on these days. This came out this year. Never Anything number 77. Hmm. Uh, Baru Toro. From? Nico. From Argentina. Uh-huh. Ah, okay.
Starting point is 00:39:35 This person spelled sampler right. It has the E in it. Okay, yeah. They spelled it right. So, a little MC Schmidt. A little, you take a little. Take a Q. Take a Q here. This a little, you can take a little. Take a cue. Take a cue here.
Starting point is 00:39:47 This is a, it looks like a C40 abouts, Jamie. Yeah. So yeah, those are some stretchers. Yeah. Those will get you going. Tap's still in. I'm noticing that. Okay, good.
Starting point is 00:39:57 It's fine. Good for them. Never Anything has had a consistent aesthetic going for, how many years now? Like five years? Yeah. That was awful, Jamie. and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true
Starting point is 00:56:25 love and I will say my true love and I will say my true love and I will say my true There were some birds on that block. A lot of field recordings on that block. A lot of birds. Enjoyed it. I had a good time. You ready to go out and do maybe one more? I don't have any samples of birds. Are you serious? I got a cow.
Starting point is 00:56:52 I got a goat. I got a chicken. Oh, a chicken's a bird. There you go. Birds. That's another bird. All right. I got birds.
Starting point is 00:57:01 My eyes are going crazy. All right. Stop it. Grow up. Grow up for once. You want to eat something? all right I got birds my eyes are going crazy all right stop it grow up grow up for once you know will you please stop it will you pick a tape I'm letting you pick a tape calm down I'm sorry Jamie you need to pick a tape? I'm letting you pick a tape. Calm down. I'm sorry, Jamie. You need to pick something. Right now.
Starting point is 00:57:29 I'm debating which one to pick. Why did you grab both ears? I grabbed both my again. Let's just pick our own stuff. I'm trying to... I'm trying to go between... Alright, alright. I picked... All right, all right. I picked one.
Starting point is 00:57:48 All right, pick one. This Ben Wheeler tape on crash cymbals. Oh, is that... Let me ask you real quick. How heavy is that J card? It's a heavy-ass J card. Yeah, you were... And there's a sticker in it, too.
Starting point is 00:57:59 It's kind of hard to close the case. Don't unfold it yet. Hold on. Because I was going to say... I'm making a meal out of this okay when you got here and you said i brought this crash symbols tape just because the j card's so big i did say that i thought well how big could it be and you started unfolding it and i said jamie stop show me the rest the music's pretty good but um the j card's where it's at for this
Starting point is 00:58:21 one i thought you were gonna i thought you going to sprain your wrist when you started unfolding this thing. It's enormous. Hold on. You have to call it a wingspan at some point. What's the wingspan of this tape? More bird talk. Hold on. Hold on a second.
Starting point is 00:58:42 Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Aerosmith! Do one more. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Aerosmith! Do one more. Ladies and gentlemen, Soul Asylum. All right, ready? Let's see that J card, Jamie. All right. I'm going to count.
Starting point is 00:58:58 One fold. Hold on. Two fold. Three folds. Four folds. Five folds. Where do you even get this printed at, Mike? Jamie fourfold, fivefold. Where do you even get this printed at, Mike? Jamie, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:59:09 You can't print this. No, you can. You can't go to King Coast. How long is that? You got a ruler? No. Why would you have a ruler? Put your arm out.
Starting point is 00:59:16 Then we'll measure your arm later. It goes from the tip of your middle finger to my elbow. Almost to your elbow. Let's go from your elbow. It go from your elbow it goes from your elbow to your pinky you have a pinky ring yeah i do have a pinky ring why are you laughing at my okay so when when you go to the printer you tell them or you ask them can you guys do a j card that's about the length from like an elbow to a go to a pinky ring. And they'll say, yeah, we've done that for crash cymbals, the Ben Wheeler tape.
Starting point is 00:59:48 Not only, whoa. A lot of cymbals. You didn't tell me it was double-sided. I almost passed out when I flipped this paper over. This is, I mean, you have to think it's probably about 18 inches long. Maybe 17. This is probably about 17 inches long. Somebody check it.
Starting point is 01:00:04 Yeah. It's red, white, and blue. play the national anthem for me yeah the artwork is very abstract with all these this is my national anthem yes the audio quality is just so much better for limp biscuit than cold chamber give me some biscuit give. Yeah. What's that? There's some space in that mix. A good headroom. This is like an Adobe... Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:34 Alright, stop it. This is like someone like a kid with like a really talented kid with ADD who was given like an Adobe tutorial to do in high school. Yeah. And he was a good description.
Starting point is 01:00:46 They were supposed to like make some sort of like, you know. Make a bunch of widgets and drag them all around. Exactly. Rotate them. And their teacher's like, what the fuck did you do, Billy? It looks good though. Do some stretching. I mean, it's absolutely gorgeous.
Starting point is 01:01:00 Don't get me wrong. I want to give you a big smooch. I would hang that on my wall. I don't know if your wall could hold it. You know what? The saving grace of doing that, I bet you that is the distance between two studs in the wall. That's right.
Starting point is 01:01:12 16 inches, actually. So it's a little bit longer. Well, you know, we haven't measured this yet. But you can probably use this J card to measure the studs between your wall. Excuse me. So who is Ben Wheeler? What is this tape all about?
Starting point is 01:01:26 I have no clue anyway um yeah i brought it mostly for the j card i don't really know much about the music i gotta say though hell of a j card yeah a lot of oscillator you know it's synthesizer music got some akai Tomcat drum machines. Modified Boss loop pedals. You gotta modify them. I wonder how they were modified. I don't know. What am I doing? Am I picking the tape now? You're picking the tape. Fuck, I don't know what I want.
Starting point is 01:01:57 I don't know which one I'm writing for. This is me folding the cardboard. I was gonna take you all night. We gotta fast forward this part. Does it fit in the Noroco case? We didn't even talk about the sticker. There's a little sticker from like...
Starting point is 01:02:08 You remember that Sega Saturn game with the really weird graphics? Oh, wow. Yeah. You don't know what I'm talking about. No, I don't. Sorry. It reminds me of one of the sprites from that.
Starting point is 01:02:36 Crow Man by Noel. Noel. been a long road getting from there crow man by noel noel how do you spell that g g n o l l say that one more time g n o l l hell yeah We're going on an adventure. This is one of those High Mat Day Catastrophe. Oh, see, now you're saying it in the Italian. I go, well, you know. You said House of Catastrophe last time. I had no idea what you were talking about. Now I know.
Starting point is 01:02:57 A little nod to my people. I am a little paisan. Yes, this bambino does like his cheese. This is... This is a fucking... This label label they went off on this one they're always it's so you're so engulfed in the worlds that they create but with this one universes they jamie they're multiverses they invent these multiverses this label of dungeons and scary adventures and all different kind of things.
Starting point is 01:03:28 By the way, this J card might rival yours. It's fucking enormous. You can't rival mine. You think you can? Hold on. One, two, three, four. Four, okay. That's still pretty good.
Starting point is 01:03:44 And I'll tell you what the art the art in that i feel like a spanked ass it doesn't it doesn't remind me of a high schooler learning how to use like autocad or whatever this whole thing this is crow man the official soundtrack of crow man conqueror of iron um it looks amazing it's it's the the thing about it's like it's kind of like imagine if there was a show like a conan the barbarian show kind of like he-man but scarier more adult more grown-up more muscles um and this is like all the toys they made all these toys for all the characters how do you even do that like they made the how do you do that i don't know how they do this yeah they took like other toys they took like he-man toys and other figures and probably sculpting clay and different jellies how about a 3d printer you
Starting point is 01:04:38 think they can do that sort of acrylic based gels and like goof off they put some goof off and um delicious probably some marmalades. Different textured marmalades and screws. I don't know how they did it, but they created these figures. I bet they have pretty good marmalade in Italy. And look at them.
Starting point is 01:04:57 Look at these figures. And then they... Thorke, Cro-Man, Kraytor, and Porthal. Oh, there's more. There's so many. Ymir, Mim, Dorthal. They create this universe.
Starting point is 01:05:18 It's universes that they create. They even made a fake name for the Underworld Muscle is the name of the toy company and the logo for that it's that's yeah i don't even want to play because it's almost it's almost too much they made jamie they did another level and they went ladies and gentlemen the doobie brothers so it is like this is too much and it's so there's so so much triumph going on there's a lot of triumph it's the conqueror of iron i don't know what else to say so can i play this did i pick another one already
Starting point is 01:05:54 no you didn't why don't you pick the last one dealer's choice i am because i have another one over here yeah is this a sound holes it is not a sound holes fooled you what a prank black and white it worked aha i was trying to uh jamie stop trick you into thinking that was no a true cassette enthusiast would know sound holes the black ink is a little bit darker than this it's a higher res and they don't use that font. Okay, okay. There they are right there, Jamie. Yeah, their font's a little bit more like a broken typewriter type looking font. Yeah. This is on Flophouse.
Starting point is 01:06:32 Flophouse. We've played them before. We have. Yeah. Oh, come on, Jamie. A tape by Andreas Brandl. Veteran. Veteran noise.
Starting point is 01:06:43 Friend of the show. Friend of the show. Friend of the show. Good friend of the show good friend of the show who's stopping me from saying it the tape's called Not a Triangle now before we go on Jamie look at that cover and you were just telling me before
Starting point is 01:06:56 that the earth is actually a triangle shape did I say a pyramid or a triangle? you said a triangle it's 2D. It's flat. It's flat, but it's upright, and it's real thick. Super thick.
Starting point is 01:07:12 What am I looking at from here? I'm trying to find triangles? There's so many triangles on there. I can count a few. Why say not a triangle, then? There's so many triangles on there. There's other shapes, too. But it does look like a sound holes tape a little bit i know that it's not that because because you're also a noise veteran you've been around the block well
Starting point is 01:07:34 stop thank you for your service mike you're really you know when i decided to not have any other skills, I thought I would like noise. Yeah. And all these years later, here we are. And I got to say, when I see somebody out there stealing noise valor, it just makes my blood boil. I'm going to give you some space because you've been talking about this privately.
Starting point is 01:07:59 Go ahead. Go ahead. Well, somebody like Mike has done his training. He's done his service. He's made his rounds. He's made his rounds. He's made his tours. I do all the Zoom meetings. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:10 I keep my license up to date. Do not steal Mike's valor under any circumstances, please. Andres Brando, where is he from? This is like Norway or something like that? Yeah, I think so. What is Norway? Norway is like Sweden, Denmark. That's all Norway.
Starting point is 01:08:24 Scandinavia. Scandinavia. Yeah, that's all. Norway looks Norway? Norway is like Sweden, Denmark. That's all Norway. Scandinavia. Yeah, that's all. Norway looks like a wiener, right? They all kind of do a little bit because they're all, you know. When you get closer to the poles, they get stretched out. Okay. An addition of 37 copies. Jamie, we're going to play this tape and that'll be the end of this episode.
Starting point is 01:08:44 But before we do that could you do me a favor could you go to andresbrandl.com as a matter of fact I've been trying to do that and I've been failing google how do you spell that last name B-R-A-N-D-A-L ah
Starting point is 01:08:58 B-R-A-N-D-A-L I was doing an E-L there we go. Okay. So he has his own website, andreasbrandl.com. Not secure. There's no HTTPS.
Starting point is 01:09:13 It's just HTTP. File's done. Goodbye. Why don't you put on some nice music, read a little bit of his, do a dramatic reading. We love your dramatic readings. Okay.
Starting point is 01:09:23 Here on Tabs Out. Do people really like that? People are always calling me up on my private line. We love your dramatic readings here on Tabs Out. Do people really like that? People are always calling me up on my private line saying they love your dramatic readings. Why don't you? Not me, you. Speaking of you being a noise veteran, do you know that 905 Tapes is on the homepage of this website?
Starting point is 01:09:37 Is it really? N2AM Tapes. A giant fern. They got all the labels here. They don't have no horse shit. They got Tranquility Tapes. RIP Tranquility Tapes. Prairie Fire.
Starting point is 01:09:55 Fodge Tapes. No Kings. Okay, what am I reading? Or is that my dramatic reading? It's got a nice site map. Remember the site map? Flesh Coffin. Flesh Coffin.
Starting point is 01:10:16 Is that a coffin made out of flesh, or is that a coffin with flesh in it? For flesh. For flesh. So basically a coffin? Yeah, yes. It's a coffin? Yeah. Yes. It's a bit of a redundant title. People aren't just putting their refrigerator in a coffin.
Starting point is 01:10:36 Hello. That's called dead air in the biz. All right. You ready? Are you not doing the dramatic reading? Of what? Of Andres Brandl's bio. That's so rude that you would not read that.
Starting point is 01:10:52 So rude, Jamie. There's no bio. There's a huge bio. There's a whole about section. There's a site map. No, it's too late now. There's an about. It doesn't say bio, it said about.
Starting point is 01:11:00 It's too late. Why do you still have to read it? Andres Brandl is from Bergen, Norway. Give me some biscuit he has been making music with various bands since the late 80s in 1994 he released his first recording as a solo artist okay we done yeah i would say yeah i would say about 10 episodes ago. Yeah. Okay.
