Starting point is 00:01:30 Are we ready to play? I see we have stacks of tapes in front of us. I have. I'm very proud of myself because I left. We did our 2022 episode. We did the list.
Starting point is 00:01:43 We did a hell of a job. Maddie carried the weight there. Oh, fuck i brought all 2023 tapes because i'm ready to go i'm ready to put the old ones in the i hate to say but the potty oh wow you went tt in the party that was just experimental stuff but i see you you all have some 2022 stuff which is fine because joe b you put a 2021 tape on the 2022 list yeah i got one 2023 with me a bit oh you do good good because i want to fly to the future just started yeah and i I'm ready to, I'm a future man. Yeah. I'm ready to do adventures. I'm into old stuff.
Starting point is 00:02:27 I like the classics. And enjoy the adventure. No, let's do adventures, because this is a bit of an adventurous episode. I think everyone would agree. Oh, really? Why? Well, for one, I have some very- You're into adventure stuff?
Starting point is 00:02:43 I have very adventurous tapes. Oh, all right. I see you. It's kind of your thing. You always bring adventurous tapes. I definitely always bring adventure tapes. And I see you got more high mag derrick catastrophe over there.
Starting point is 00:02:55 And Joe always has like action figures and dice that come with his tapes. I know. That's been his thing and I love it. Me too. And I love it. I pretend not to like it, but deep down I love it.
Starting point is 00:03:03 You pretend not to like it? Haven't you been telling that? He's doing this thing with his hair where he pushes it back, and he's like, whatever. I didn't even pick up on that. And then when you leave, he kind of strokes the miniatures. And he's like, win-loss. I did explain the game thing to Jamie,
Starting point is 00:03:16 and he didn't seem excited about it. I think because he likes the... It's overwhelming for him, I think. But you know what? You're a tech man. I figured you'd like the tech you're speaking of the I liked it deep down
Starting point is 00:03:28 but you again didn't want to let me know that you liked it what is the game there some weird power move that Jamie's doing it's all about getting off it's the only way he can get off anymore because then I just want him to like it more and more and more and then he still is just
Starting point is 00:03:45 like and you're talking about the desolation planes tape on old stories yeah which uh we'll have nick from old stories he runs the label he does desolation planes he does a few other projects farcaster right yeah farcaster synthesizer stuff he takes bubble baths with his synthesizers he goes he goes those wet he goes, you can get them in space. You can get a synthesizer wet. Cause of the gravity. So he'll join us to talk about Jamie. Since he's our guest,
Starting point is 00:04:13 can you at least pretend like you like it? Yeah. I'll pretend. Cool. Don't pretend not to like it. That's awesome. Yeah. Like don't be a dick to our guests.
Starting point is 00:04:22 Like there's a game that goes with this one. Cool. Cool. No, pretend not to like it yeah like don't be a dick to our guests like there's a game that goes with this one cool no pretend not to like it i think i like that yeah you know what me indifferent to it you do no you know here's what we'll do here's what we'll do when nick joins us you do that and me and joe will be like we'll have our own side conversation like do you even care about this is this about the music or about just the the dnd aspect oh that's what it is yeah you don't like the shtick i'm a shtick man you are um so this
Starting point is 00:04:53 is an adventure episode though jamie you you never can really keep up with the hinjo you probably have no adventure tapes over there do you i don't have any jazz do you want he probably does do you want to start off yeah i'm gonna kick it off uh old school style oh old school well with a release from 2023 whoa you guys ever hear a little label called orange milk i've heard of them it's a classic yeah you've heard of them so i ordered that um andy loeb's tape um that i that i learned about through the top one top 200 list i went through that listen that andy loeb's tape that I learned about through the top 200 list. I went through that, listened to Andy Loeb's tape, bought a copy on the spot, and Seth Graham,
Starting point is 00:05:30 as he is wont to do, sent me two extra tapes. One of them isn't released yet. It's this tape by Synth Freak. Synth Freak! All these Synth Freaks! F-R-E-Q. I'm a fucking Synth Freak. Oh, like frequency. I see what they did there.
Starting point is 00:05:46 Why don't you guys have your smartphone on you? Does that have a smartphone? There is a QR code on it that you scan in. Oh, this is kind of like a game. This is a bit like a game. This is an adventure. Can I pretend not to like it? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:00 You said you didn't like adventures. Okay, first of all, I'm kind of like a millennial, so I don't go anywhere without first of all, I'm kind of like a millennial, so I don't go anywhere without my freaking phone. I'm always on the thing. I'm always on my phone. I can't get enough of it. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:12 I build pretty good computers. It goes to YouTube. It's going to mess up my algorithm. Yeah, it does go to YouTube. It goes to a channel for The Synth Freak. Nice. And it's these two people, TFS and MsMotif6, just playing on their synthesizers.
Starting point is 00:06:25 Well, that's fun. Pretty fun stuff. Taking a bubble bath with my synthesizer. So wait, are you watching it now? No, I'm going to save it for later. There's a whole bunch of videos. It just goes to their YouTube channel. Wait, so it's a QR code and it just goes to the YouTube? Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:36 I like it. But there's like... It's whatever. There's very little internet presence. It's not on the Orange Milk page yet. I didn't find any Discogs for Synth Freak. Do they have a band camp? I don't know. The only thing I've seen is this YouTube channel.
Starting point is 00:06:50 I browsed through it. I like the videos. The music on the tape is quite like the videos. Very cool stuff. Mike's got his magnifying glass out. I have a magnifying glass now specifically for Orange Milk. The fonts are getting smaller and smaller. I will say this one actually does have text on the spine, i commend seth for doing oh good job are
Starting point is 00:07:09 they twins i don't know they i can't say don't know they look the same yeah ponytails glasses they got a lot of keyboards jamie look at the lens flare on this uh robert beatty's gonna get a cease and desist over to orange Milk really quick for that one lens flare. I got my sights on that one, yeah. They just took that right off of a Robert Beatty cover and moved it right over to this. Now this looks tight. Yeah, it's really good. Synth Freak,
Starting point is 00:07:35 that's a good name. You heard it here first. Oh, this is an exclusive. We didn't play it yet. Is it not on the YouTube? It's not on Bandcamp, it's not on Discogs, It's only on YouTube. Did he ask you not to put that on Discogs yet, or did you do it right away? No, well, I haven't.
Starting point is 00:07:51 You did it right away. It's in my queue. He couldn't control himself. I'm not going to do it, but I got it. Okay, it's in your queue. Yeah. But you got a backlog. I have a backlog of stuff to enter in still.
Starting point is 00:08:05 Yeah, it'll get entered in if nobody does it before me. Okay. I asked Jamie to go first because I thought it would take the pressure off me and my tape wouldn't have to be so good. But now this is like an unreleased orange milk. Oh, wow. The label looks really nice on this smoky shell. Damn, this looks good yeah i'm trying to decide how i feel about the qr code i feel like the qr code should be on the inside hmm what do you guys think no i like it because like let's say you're at the store okay
Starting point is 00:08:38 i'm at sam goodies i'm at sam goodies on the shelf i'm wearing my cool lots and you're like what is this synth freak i don't know if i'm gonna like it and then you scan the QR code and you go to youtube and you watch a couple videos you're like i'm gonna buy this yeah okay yeah but wouldn't i just like say like hey you know what my phone's about the size of a tape it's playing the music this is good enough the phone is about the size of a tape the phone's about the size of a tape it's already playing the music. Why do I need the tape anymore? Because those tracks aren't on the YouTube. Okay.
Starting point is 00:09:11 And you also... If I could fit my phone in an Aragog case, it would completely eliminate the need for this podcast, the tape, the whole thing. Not really. All right. Synth Freak Volume 1. This is Volume 1.
Starting point is 00:09:23 K-1-1. Here, Volume 2. And Synth... Excuse me. Seth... I call him Synth. Synth Graham. Let's call him Synth Graham. Synth Freak Volume 1. This is Volume 1. K-1-1. Here, Volume 2. And Synth, excuse me, Seth. I called him Synth. Synth Graham. Let's call him Synth Graham. Synth Graham. Can you believe it?
Starting point is 00:09:34 That was just experimental stuff. He sent this for me. This is mine. No, that's Jamie's. He didn't send him two extra copies. He sent me a Goo Age tape, too. Thank you, Seth. Goo Age. He sent it a Goo Age tape, too. Thank you, Seth. And that one's for me.
Starting point is 00:09:47 Why is he sending me? Because you didn't buy anything. You go. Okay. Well, I'll play. I'll play two. I want to play a couple tracks from this one. How about that?
Starting point is 00:10:01 I'll see. This compilation ritual analog sacrifice on Were Gnome, which is a label I just discovered from the internet. And at first I read it as
Starting point is 00:10:17 I think you did too, Were Gnome. Yeah, of course I did. Everyone did. But then I finally saw their logo and it's a little gnome who's turned into a wolf. He's a werewolf. This is a weregnome. Yeah, let's talk about that. So a werewolf is a human that turns into a wolf. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:37 So a weregnome is a wolf that turns into a gnome. Is a wolf that turns into a gnome. So let me see the gnome. Well, I wolf that turns into a gnome. So this, let me see the gnome. Well, I don't know if this is him on the cover. I think it is. But their logo is more cartoony. Where's the logo? I don't think it's on there. The gnome on the cover is like,
Starting point is 00:10:55 Yeah, he's kind of scary. He's going after this cassette. He doesn't like it. I think... Anyone's heard it? That's their logo. Okay, so their logo is like a cartoon can you zoom in on it i can't really because it looks like a dog well i guess a wolf is dog a wolf is like a dog yeah is like one yeah it's canine something. Yep. What am I doing?
Starting point is 00:11:28 So a were-gnome is a wolf that's like a dog. Yeah. But the gnome on the cover here... Sam? Fuck yeah. So it's a... Okay, so it is... That's really cool. So it's a gnome that turned into a wolf.
Starting point is 00:11:40 I think so. I'm not even going to pretend to not like that. I like that. Oh, you like that? Yes. I don't want to play it, actually. You know what? Let's play this out. even gonna pretend to not like that i like that oh you like that yes i don't want to play it actually you know what let's let's play this out can you pretend to not like it all right let me see let me see what i'm gonna play because there's a lot of people on this wow who are they let's see can i use that magnifying glass? It's all in Old English. Oh, Christ. Oh, gosh. Stuart Keller and Deep Gnome. Frost Guard.
Starting point is 00:12:11 Unsheathed Glory. Tomb Wizard. Ring Bearer. Hermit Knight. I'm telling you, man. Assorted Potions. So a Hermit Knight is a hermit that turns into a knight. A hermit.
Starting point is 00:12:23 Yeah. Retro Goblin. Killing Frost. Oh, Jamie, Swamp Ass is on this. Nice. They're all in caps, too, for some reason. Mortal Relic. Robes of Snow.
Starting point is 00:12:42 Swamp Ass. A couple other ones I can't read. These are all great. I love these. Any of these people playing uh what's that uh dungeon synth fest you're taking northeast dungeon fest dungeon i'm so scared to go to me too where is where is that what state it's in massachusetts sunshine state yeah it's beautiful this time of year the duck and donuts is fresh um i'm so scared to go to that I'm so scared that I mean gnomes are turning into wolves I know it's scary
Starting point is 00:13:09 swamp ass is there very scary stuff so what are you playing off of this thing we'll play two tracks from the B side the first two tracks that's the easiest thing to do on a comp assorted potions and retro goblin so what happened
Starting point is 00:13:21 he's like a retro god in my mind. So what happened here is you listened to side A, and now you're going to play the first one. Now I'm going to flip it, yeah. Yes, period. No, I listened to the whole thing. I like it. I like that you picked these two.
Starting point is 00:13:37 And also, I was very confused because the Twitter is like... Rochester, I think they're from. The Twitter makes it look like it says, We're known. We're known. We are. Yeah, so you got to make it like... Or were. Rochester, I think they're from. The Twitter makes it look like it says, We're a gnome. We're a gnome. We are.
Starting point is 00:13:48 Yeah, so you gotta make it like, or were, we used to be. How can they fix it? How can they fix it? Well, that's, I mean, that's, the logo fixes it. Not for me. I know, me too. You didn't see the logo.
Starting point is 00:13:58 So an incredibly cool little lizard. Okay, tight. So I'm really excited for this. How long has this label been around because this is i don't know actually this isn't like their like first release no no they got a bunch of stuff they got a bunch of stuff i can't read any old english yeah especially swamp ass well i actually could read that one swamp ass in old english is so funny i love all caps okay and then i gotta go man i got some pressure on me. I'm gonna play
Starting point is 00:14:25 the Sandcastle tape. This Sandcastle tape is called Kisses for Witches. And it is the 10-year anniversary of Kisses for Witches. So it's not... You're not playing something new. Get out of here. But it just came out.
Starting point is 00:14:41 Just came out. It just came out, but it's the 10-year anniversary, which means it came out in originally... 2013. I like that you weren't confident about that. It's on Strange Mono, that Philadelphia label that bought the Philadelphia police a new canine dog. Oh, I didn't know that. Did I know that?
Starting point is 00:15:01 Remember we... We had a bit about that. It was a very, very funny bit that we did. They don't like cops, right? At least they, what did we play? We played a tape. It was very anti police. A band that was called like, I'm a thin blue line type of guy.
Starting point is 00:15:17 So that really offended me. But we played a tape called like Cop Puncher. Cop Puncher. I remember Cop Puncher. It was good. Yeah, but I don't know if sandcastle is it castles or castle it's one castle i don't know why that one was really funny but it was
Starting point is 00:15:36 i don't know this is very clever though the person who did the project or still does i'm not sure is named sam castle it's like same castle okay wait and the project's not called sand castle or is the project called sam castle sand sand oh all right um and there's some other people i think they help out they play instruments it's freak folk oh freak folk get out of here it's grow up we got synth freaks and we got freak folk oh there's lyrics there's lyrics they're singing it's freak folk oh freak folk get out of here it's grow up we got synth freaks and we got freak folk oh there's lyrics there's lyrics they're singing it's a weird tape and i and i enjoy it are you gonna play dream girl or dream catcher i don't know yet i don't know what i'm gonna play
Starting point is 00:16:15 maybe i wrote something down um it's an edition of 50 the artwork is by Rebecca Kirby who... Jamie, look this up. It said that they do work for Cartoon Network and stuff. See if they draw Bart Simpson. I think so. This looks just like Bart Simpson. Is that Marge on the cover? I think it's Marge. Because Marge is
Starting point is 00:16:39 blue hairs. I think it's Marge on the cover. And there's a goat on the inside. Rebecca Kirby's on Instagram. Really? Everybody's on Instagram, Jamie. R-E-W-E-K-I. Follow this person. The whole account. Yeah. This is very cool. I love the white shell
Starting point is 00:16:58 with the black printing. You guys on B-Real yet? What is that? You don't know about B-Real? I have no clue. cypress hill no no it's a it's an app thing that uh the alarm could go off at any time during the day oh my cousin uses and then you have to take a picture yourself and it automatically takes a picture of your front camera sounds like it's for perverts yeah it's for perverts i'll sign up for it yeah it's so that you don't like get ready for your selfie you can retake them though which is stupid but
Starting point is 00:17:24 then i think it tells the people people know that you ready for your selfie. You can retake them, though, which is stupid. But then I think it tells the people. People know that you tried X amount of times to retake it. Ben is for be real. I'm always ready for my selfie. Take one of me right now. Huh? No doubt. You would have to take it.
Starting point is 00:17:36 If I took one of you, I'm not taking a selfie. I'm just taking a picture of you. But I believe this is Strange Mono. Yeah, this is their first 2023 release. Doesn't count because it's a 10-year anniversary. So it doesn't count. Nice try, but it doesn't count. You got to subtract that. It's a reissue. Yeah, this is their first 2023 release. Doesn't count because it's a 10-year anniversary, so it doesn't count. Nice try, but it doesn't count. Yeah, it's a reissue.
Starting point is 00:17:48 Oh, no, they have another tape that they put out in 2023. What is this? Beer Breakfast Dungeon. Wait, Beer Breakfast Dungeon is Crab. Oh, that's over here. Is that over there? Yeah. Okay, that came out, too.
Starting point is 00:17:58 What is this? Oh, we're not playing, so who cares? Oh, they're from West Philadelphia. Oh, born and raised? Chaotic punk. Some chaotic punk some chaotic punk i wonder if they spent most of their days on the playground okay no they probably spent in some like disgusting basement on like uh walnut street like uh hopefully they were not up to no good
Starting point is 00:18:16 and they don't make trouble in the neighborhood they probably got in a little fight now you do the mamama Mia part because then his mom got scared. Well, hopefully they don't have to move anywhere. Like Bel-Air. Okay, let's play Synth Freak. And then there's two tracks off the
Starting point is 00:18:37 Assorted Potions and Retro Goblin. Sort of like a retro god to me. He's like a retro god in my mind. and then sandcastle little kisses for witches on transpondo all right let's do it Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. boom Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I'm sorry. Cigarette between the winter lingers And even though I hate myself And only ever want to be alone I wanted to be with you I want to pick the daisies on your dress
Starting point is 00:29:59 I want to pick the dress of Mommy Daisy Throw it on the basement floor A card in on the basement floor We'll be late Oh, girl, I love you Love you If I'm in a song I will meet you Meet you
Starting point is 00:30:37 Deep in the honeycomb And tell me Will you be mine? Thank you. Upon an antishore I love you Love you If only in a dream And only you You'd be my you If only you know so Let me love you
Starting point is 00:32:19 Let me tell you what I thought you'd be for A poor little man to choose Antonio You, my love You never noticed me now I held you close to me now Thank you. And we're back. And enjoy the adventure. All right. What did we play in that block? That was a mighty fine one.
Starting point is 00:33:53 There was Synth Freak. One of those Synth Freaks. I love Synth Freaks. I love when they just get all the keys. Not just the both of them. The white ones, the black ones. They push all of them. The buttons, the knobs, the sliders.
Starting point is 00:34:07 Don't forget the sliders. Don't forget the sliders. A lot of people forget the sliders, but you know what? You're going to want to slide them. You're going to want to push them up and down. Jamie, you said volume one on Orange Milk. That's not, at this moment, not even out yet.
Starting point is 00:34:20 To my knowledge. To my knowledge. Unless you did it five minutes ago. Jesus, right? King, you dropped something over here, King. out yet to my knowledge to my knowledge unless he did it five minutes ago oh god jesus right king you drop something over here king a bit of a flex there playing some unreleased orange milk jesus christ jamie what a flex what a weird flex wow assorted potions and retro goblin on that where gnome yeah analog ritualistic give me some scary background music. Good scary background sounds, Jamie. Make it so scary.
Starting point is 00:34:47 Too scary. I want some like Thunder and Werewolf. Ritualistic analog sacrifice. Common. Giant. Not rare. No. Wrecker.
Starting point is 00:35:02 Sussurred emotion. And retro goblin. And then Sandcastle. Little Kisses for Witches, 10th anniversary on Strange Mono. Sister labeled a strange stereo. No, it's not. Strange Mono is the only one. There's no other label.
Starting point is 00:35:24 Alright, Joe B., you want to start this one off? Oh, all right. I'm going to take us on another adventure. I would love to go on it. If that's okay with you. Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no. Of course not. This is one of the only adventures I got in my life.
Starting point is 00:35:36 So this is, it's not two tapes. It's one tape. No, you're holding two tapes. I know. This is just the case. So here's the tape. No, that's, you have two. It's two Norelcos. Holy shit. But the second Here's the tape. It's two Norelcos,
Starting point is 00:35:47 but the second one isn't a tape. The second Norelco is full of literature. That is literature. That's just literature in that other one. What is that? Grapes of Wrath? The warranty? I was recently at... You guys know what PAX is? Penny Arcade Expo? I do know what that is.
Starting point is 00:36:02 It's in the friggin' warranty in that other one. PAX Unplugged, which is the, you know, Pax has video game stuff. Pax Unplugged is just board games, role-playing games,
Starting point is 00:36:12 miniatures games. I played Pax, man. Gathering, all that kind of stuff. I played Pax, man. So I was at that, I don't know, a couple months ago.
Starting point is 00:36:18 Goodbye. I walked by this booth for this game called Mazes. It's a role-playing game. It's like Dungeons & Dragons. Mm-hmm. And we were chatting with the person that you know runs the company okay um and then i saw here like at the table sitting these two tapes what's that and then i'm looking at it closer and it's it's noel noel i believe we've played noel before the one with the action figures that are like He-Man? Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:45 That's a Nolan. What was that called? On High Matter Catastrophe, right? Yeah. Well, this is on High Matter. Jamie, look that up. Noel. What tape did we play by Noel? How do you spell that?
Starting point is 00:36:55 Like Nolan Ryan? Yeah, it's Nolan Ryan. G-N-O-L. Episode 179, we played the Noel Crow Man. I'm very quick on my Google. Crow Man tape on High Matter Catastrophe. we played the knoll crow you were quick man i'm very quick on my google crow man tape i'm at their catastrophe that inside was all these kind of action figures that were kind of like he-man but yeah yeah it was like um the the the the gist of that tape was the world that it created was that it was um fake toy line like a he-man type toy line that was like a Skeletor figure
Starting point is 00:37:25 and a He-Man figure that they made and then they did the promo shot. Yeah, it was... This is also on HiMAT, Day Catastrophe, and also 9th Level Games, which is the company that makes mazes.
Starting point is 00:37:40 Yeah, get right on that mic. I think I need to be turned up a little bit. Turn him up? What the fuck are you doing? Am I recording? Yes, I'm recording. Okay. Oh. I think I need to be turned up a little bit. I can't hear myself. Turn him up. What the fuck are you doing? I'm recording. Am I recording? Yes, I'm recording. Okay.
Starting point is 00:37:48 Sound like a beer can getting flat. So, the tape by Noel is the soundtrack again. Uh-huh. But then in the literature, the warranty in there. The warranty is long. It's in like four different languages. Three adventures. Oh, wow. So, you got this paper in here that folds out. languages. Three adventures. Oh, wow. So you
Starting point is 00:38:06 got this paper in here that folds out. It's just like a few sheets of paper. The Kiss of the Spider God. The Kiss of the Spider God Part 2. A Litany in Scratches. In the Care of Old Bones. And then it's the adventure. It starts with the ruins. You go to the
Starting point is 00:38:21 shrine, the pilgrim's ascent, idols, the golden tree, the hole you go to the shot the shrine the pilgrim's ascent idols the golden tree the hole and then the chamber yeah shall we part two's on the back here pretty interesting but it's pretty damn scary this is insane it's just amazing yeah i love we've come so far we've come you know we've done so much from jurassic park so those are the maps and on the fold-out piece of paper but then the booklets are the actual like the holy shit that book an underground shrine lies at the center of a once grass that is a steep kinko's bill right there well someone was probably giving out a hundred dollar uh kinko's gift card someone that worked there yeah remember when john burke used to
Starting point is 00:38:59 do that uh-huh i do remember that. Personally, I'm trying to bring back scams like that. Scams and flams from the 90s is kind of like my thing right now. A generation ago, pilgrims would often come this way, heading onto the plains for miraculous healing. Jamie, you got no werewolves for him? Why have you come here? There's three options. I guess you'd have to roll.
Starting point is 00:39:26 You've either come here to heal a grievous wound, to investigate the existence of fairy weavers for the geomancer Adrenilius, or the spider temple has hired you to retrieve water from the mystic well. He got a virus. Which one would you do, Jamie? I was focused too much on my samples. Why are you coming to the underground shrine? Are you
Starting point is 00:39:41 coming to heal yourself, investigate the existence of fairy weavers, or did the Spider Temple hire you to retrieve water from the mystic well? The Spider Temple hired me to retrieve the water. Okay. Their well has run dry, and they need me, the strongest man, to retrieve water.
Starting point is 00:39:57 Yeah, of why they sent the clerics out, but none have returned. So you're going there to get the water and find out why the clerics haven't come. Jamie, do you not have any scary lightning? So anyway. I got some thunder. This thing is awesome. This booklet, too, by the way,
Starting point is 00:40:14 like, it's got a nice full-color, it's like designed, like, so beautiful. Mazes is a modern role-playing game that returns to where it all started. How much do you pay for this? Not crazy. Maybe $15? $15? I was gonna say that returns to where it all started. How much do you pay for this? Not crazy. Maybe $15.
Starting point is 00:40:28 I was going to say it's worth $15. Yeah. How many pages? This little saddle-stitched book with all these pages. They're numbered. The pages are numbered. There's 27 pages. That's a nightmare to put on Discogs.
Starting point is 00:40:41 I'm glad I don't have it. Check out Noel and maybe play Mazes. Plus, there's all this drama going on in the Dungeons & Dragons world right now. I don't know if you know about the OGL. We won't get into it. What's going on? No, what's going on? We'll talk about that off. This is one of the only adventures I got in my life.
Starting point is 00:40:55 So if you're looking for an alternative role-playing game to play and you don't want to support Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro, check out Mazes. Okay, I'll check out Mazes. Ninth-level games. Mazes.com. Mazes.com. Well, I don't know if it's.com you're really being presumptuous on that one
Starting point is 00:41:08 all right so go on an adventure he got a virus oh no there's worms on this website jamie really i can't get off now oh man i can take care of that for you. Goodbye. It's a domain squatter. File's done. Squatting on a domain. Oh, my God. So who is Noel? I don't know, but Noel also did... There's another role-playing game called Mjölkborg, and Noel also did a soundtrack for Mjölkborg,
Starting point is 00:41:38 which I believe is also on HiMAT. That's a good pronunciation you did there. Thanks. It means dark fort in Swedish. There's a couple umlauts. I got some multilingual things coming up oh yeah this is educational too i have some linguistic stuff too really yeah tying it all together wow these are this is the i'm shook by the designs this is beautiful i almost think we are going too far into an adventure right now. I didn't bring dice, but I did bring a skeleton figure.
Starting point is 00:42:07 Oh, my God. Too scary. We're after something else. I feel like we need to back up. Jamie, you go now. You're going to play the null tape. Yeah. Mazes.
Starting point is 00:42:18 HDK 117. Back away from the adventure. Okay? Okay. Bring me somewhere safe. Yeah, ground him. Ground him. Ground me. Ground me. This is pleasing to the eye. Those colors are too bright. Too bright? How about this? back away from the adventure okay okay bring me somewhere safe yeah ground him ground ground this is pleasing those colors are too too bright too bright how about this
Starting point is 00:42:29 all right i have a which is that the zorn palette no that's not the zorn palette is the zorn palette that one is that one is um many cultures represented so we have um this artist k imada that means burned in spanish though this person's an italian composer well they speak spanish italian is really close to spanish i think the name of the tape is called me pl my skin and it's on this right this is pronounce that pronounce the label there joe uh oh i don't know how you pronounce the O with the line through it. Yeah. I think you just did.
Starting point is 00:43:07 Svone. No. No. Actually, I used Google Translate to pronounce it, and it said soon. Soon. Which means sleep in Danish. So we got Italy. Oh, Jamie, you're blowing my head.
Starting point is 00:43:16 We got Spain. With the linguistics. And this person lives in Copenhagen. Oh, my God. Denmark? So we got four countries. Danish? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:24 Somebody give me a compass. Copenhagen's in Sweden, buddy. Is it? I don't know. You're gaslighting me. Oh, my skin. Jeez. My skin is burned.
Starting point is 00:43:36 My skin is burned. Oh my goodness. This is kind of like a synthy chop, chop, choppy chops. Chopped and screwed? Speaking of chopping, you screwed. It's just chopped. Oh, okay. Speaking of chopping, you keep clipping. Someone's clipping. So? Speaking of chopping It's just chopped. Speaking of chopping You keep clipping. Someone's clipping So not speaking of chopping, speaking of clipping
Starting point is 00:43:49 Which makes me think like Jamie Get your shit together when you record these What? Those colors Pantone wise. I got a Pantone book Downstairs. Should I grab it when we play? Yeah we'll do that This is a beautiful Die cut oak hard Thank you for saying that i forgot to
Starting point is 00:44:07 mention that you didn't have to say that thank you i like i'm gonna say two things right now it's you brought you brought up linguistics yeah you brought up this die-cut j card what label is it on soon records you brought up that um it's very nice i feel like this is a personal attack at me and you came at me with this really because i you won't come at me with some linguistic stuff some die cutting stuff die cut stuff we can do that you got anything else to say about this because then i'm gonna bring my tape out i got nothing to say okay i got a tape then too how about this you want to talk about die cutting oh my gosh go go wait outside jamie me and joe be around talk about die cutting a little bit i can't stop crying you're about to learn a lot right now my friend
Starting point is 00:44:58 okay this is what die cutting is all about and i'll get to the linguistics part a little bit later so this is a new one on it also might not be out yet so there's another thing i'm coming at 2023 you're um oh my goodness talking about the flex with the unreleased orange milk i believe this is an unreleased atlantic rhythms tape uh by shana dunkelman oh and javier ariel velez called miru mira and this j card look at this thing my eyes look at this mira means look right what's miru mean oh i don't know this this is die cutting gone absolutely bonkers they went too far i think bananas you think it went too far yeah two panels get out of here. Oh, shit. You know what else I'm thinking?
Starting point is 00:45:46 You could have just done one. This is almost like a maze. So this is like your thing, too. That's what I told you. I'm not into mazes. But you're playing a maze tape, so this is, I'm doing it. Oh, I see the bit.
Starting point is 00:45:56 So I'm your friend, too. Miru means peace in Slovenian. Oh, okay. What's it mean in Fasvenian, Jamie? I laughed and I clipped. I know. I've been talking to you about that. So anyway, this is an orange J card,
Starting point is 00:46:13 like some letterpress artwork going on here. Not much artwork to speak of, just a little bit of text here that's like letterpress on there, the name on the spine, and then all these little kind kind of like tubes like little round cornered strips speaking of mazes mazes mazes yeah we literally just said that well jamie was involved in translation you said that again edit that out please i'll edit it out i'll act like i don't care um but yeah it looks like a mace did i mention that i did yeah yeah so all these little die cut tubes all die cut out of the j card when you fold the two panels
Starting point is 00:46:54 you got to see it you can't really describe it man can't describe how it looks but it's it's it's a beautiful packaging the tape also it, it's excellent stuff. From Croatian to English, it means piece-piece. Okay. So Croatian. Yes. So Shane will... How do you get two words out of that one word, miru?
Starting point is 00:47:17 I don't know. Interesting. So Shane of Dunkleman, quite an impressive bio. No, miru, mira, I put in from Croatian to English, means piece-piece. Got it. I can't get a word in. Sorry, sorryu Mira I put in from Croatian English, which means peace, peace. Got it. I can't get a word in. Sorry, sorry.
Starting point is 00:47:27 We're doing like wisdom stuff over. Dunkelman. I was just going to go over Shannon Dunkelman's impressive profile. Oh, good to me. Well, now I want Jamie to pull it up and read it because now I feel like I'm going to get stepped on if I try to read it. It's long too, Jamie. Step up and get clowned.
Starting point is 00:47:39 It's long and I want you to read the whole thing. Shannon Dunkelman is a musician and percussionist based in Brooklyn, New York. Dunkelman is known for her versatile and unique techniques and use of electronics to access a sonic palette not found in acoustic percussion. Keep going. I was like the micromachines man. In addition to solo performances, Dunkelman tours with the Puerto Rican band Balloon. Multi-instrumentalist Emily Wells, electronic pianist duo Pep Talk. Pakistani singer and author Ali Sethi and her percussionist duo Noman with her sister Nava Dunkelman.
Starting point is 00:48:05 Sounds good. I learned a lot today. Keep going. Dunkelman was recently a soloist in the latest orchestral piece by Pulitzer Award winning and Grammy nominated composer Dunwoon, titled Where Do We Lost Our Shadows 2019, along with Ali Sethi and vocalist Helga Davis. Dunkelman became increasingly active in the alternative music scene as a member of the band Juju
Starting point is 00:48:27 touring the world for six years. As part of Juju, Dunkelman premiered a multimedia performance art piece. What kind of printing is this, Mike? Imprinting? Letterpress printing. I already said all this. You're making me repeat all the stuff I said.
Starting point is 00:48:41 Good thing Mike edits Joe heavily in this show. I edit heavily. I don't want to know that and heavily uh she's also performed with the sun ra orchestra who i saw last night a little bit of a flex for me i still have the i wanted to but i i didn't i still have the jazz running through me they're awesome though i'm not a jazz guy no i can sit at home and go do it now. Yeah, I'm doing it now.
Starting point is 00:49:06 It's pretty good. Seeing them as an experience, you would like it. Oh, I'm sure. I'm sure I would like it. It was wonderful. Powerful. It was a very intimate hall.
Starting point is 00:49:11 It was basically just me and Marshall Allen. Yeah. We kind of connected. We made eyes, and he kind of said like, he looked at me, and he was kind of like, this is the guy.
Starting point is 00:49:18 You're all right. You're all right. And I was like, don't look at me. Look at everybody else. Who could that be? That was just experimental stuff. Oh, but yeah, I'm going to play one more.
Starting point is 00:49:29 I came at both of you with a name. Are you going to play the other orange one? What did I want to say about the linguistics about this? This had something to do with linguistics. My wife is a bit of a linguistics head. The Miru Mira. What's on Bandcamp, Jamie? Read Bandcamp.
Starting point is 00:49:44 And all the track names are all you know for what atlantic rhythms oh the atlantic i forgot i already forgot the label atlantic rhythms good label the album title miru mira means to see in japanese and spanish consecutively senses play a significant role in the daring collaboration between percussionist Shana Dunkelman and composer Javier Ariel Velez, combining a playful exploration of the senses. So it's not the Croatian translation. With phonological connections
Starting point is 00:50:14 between Spanish and Japanese languages, Miro Miro takes inspiration and finds connections through linguistics and sound. Wow. I'm hoping to hear those connections when we listen to it. A little bit of information. Listen, I'll prove it. Is that Pee Wee Herman?
Starting point is 00:50:30 So I'm going to play that. Want to play something? And then I'll also play another one. Let's go to the bathroom. Play the orange one. Because it goes with that one. I'll do the other orange one. Heroic Viking.
Starting point is 00:50:42 Ooh, seeing that goes with mine. Heroic Viking. I saw that that one i saw this one i told myself i wasn't gonna buy any tapes this year i was like i'm not buying any tapes this year i got too many tapes to catch up on there's tapes coming in i got and then i see heroic viking and the name alone i was like who the fuck is heroic viking i gotta look into this it's so good it's so good they got synthesizers and they play them the tape's called ragnarok on a label called uh how do you say the name of this label oh you're gonna ask me huh uh monday sonoris in addition of 25 and i snagged it nice job and it came really quickly i got the labels like from spain or something like that say that label name one more time monday sonores on this world so loud world or something like that sonorous
Starting point is 00:51:32 we come from france is where the label's from um nice paper it's oh you know i'm a paper slut so like as soon as i pulled that out i was like this is not thank you for bringing that up actually the french to english means mondo sound mondo sound much sound i did want to mention that the paper is beautiful and all the artwork on these tapes is like absolutely my shit like black like just black artwork on color paper and very simple artwork and it's beautiful mama me i wish dave was here so i could ask him what font this is yeah we do need a new font around here. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I'm going to play those two orange guys.
Starting point is 00:52:09 All right. Kind of like our former president. Mama Mia. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. © transcript Emily Beynon Thank you. © transcript Emily Beynon Thank you. Thank you. I'm going to go. © BF-WATCH TV 2021 Thank you. guitar solo electric guitar solo Thank you. Thank you. electric guitar solo ¶¶ © B Emily Beynon Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Oh, he doesn't have his video on? Oh, there's no point for me to be on this. I was only doing it so I could see him. Alright, I'm gone. Yeah, I guess I don't need to either. Bam, we're all gone.
Starting point is 01:09:59 I'd have video on, but I've just rolled out of bed. I bet you look fine. I bet you look so good. You're just being modest. What do you have, like corpse paint? Yeah, you haven't put your corpse paint on yet? Yeah. Do you need a minute to get it on?
Starting point is 01:10:12 To get ready? To get together? No, it's fine. Yeah. Just slap my face a little. I'm good. All right, what did we just play? We just played...
Starting point is 01:10:21 Kay Amada, Noel, and Shana Dunkelman. Or there's a project name for that. No, it was Shana Dunkelman and Javier Ariel Velez on Atlantic Rhythms and that heroic Viking tape. Very big adventure. Nicholas from Old Stories joining us.
Starting point is 01:10:40 Yes. You going by Nick or Nicholas? What are we calling you? You can call me Nick today. Nick. Where are you calling in from today, Nick? I'm listening. Minneapolis, Minnesota. What's the weather like today? Not too bad. It's
Starting point is 01:10:55 probably going to be like mid-30s today, which is not typical for January, but I'll take it. Nice. And that concludes Joe's Weather Corner. So we're having a bit of an adventurous episode. We've been playing some... What have we played?
Starting point is 01:11:12 We played stuff that had mazes. We've had stuff that played with goblins. We had potions. Are you familiar with the Were Gnome label? Yeah. They distributed a couple of my tapes a few years ago great people did you did you also think they were called we're gnome records um no i picked up on the you picked up on the where the werewolf now is it a a wolf that transforms into a gnome
Starting point is 01:11:40 it's a fucking big sea turtle or a human that transforms you know because a werewolf is a human that transforms into a wolf correct you're familiar with lycanthropy you're not a doctor so what is a were gnome yeah they distribute your titles what the hell is it you know i i think you know the gnome probably transforming transforms into some wild beast like i think his little logo shows like a pretty gnarly looking gnome so nick sort of rat form or yes yes that's where that's when i figured out that it's where gnome not were gnome so we've so we've been playing these like i don't typically i'm gonna get this out of the way right now i don't typically like to do all of the like kind of like adventure type scary gnome stuff
Starting point is 01:12:37 and i never told people this before but like when i was younger my friend was cycling home from a disappointing dungeons and dragons campaign at my house when a terrifying figure suddenly appeared and he tried to escape and hide but was abducted and then me and my friends dustin dustin and lucas began an investigation into his disappearance is that stranger things and wild looking no no no while looking in the local forest the boys found the girl with the shaved head in the hospital gown. So that happened to me in real life, so I don't really like to talk about this kind of stuff.
Starting point is 01:13:10 But I figured, let's get into an adventure episode. And Joe B. brought an old story, Steve. Well, first, did we introduce who Nick was? Yeah. Old stories, right? And the project name? What the fuck? Oh, you're right.
Starting point is 01:13:22 We did. I'm sorry. Edit that out. Edit that out. I'll edit it out when I introduced them no my part just now so we got nick from old stories here i was introduced to your whole world by Joby. He brought a Desolation Planes tape. It's the Sword of Hailstone tape. That's not the one with the little miniature, though, right?
Starting point is 01:13:57 Yeah, it is. Oh, it is? Yeah, with the skeleton. With the little miniature skeleton. Can you tell us a little bit about this tape? How did you... It's got like an RPG. It's got like a little game you. Can you tell us a little bit about this tape? How did you... It's got like an RPG. It's got like a little game you play on your phone.
Starting point is 01:14:09 It's got a little tiny little skeleton, man. You move around a board. And how is it compatible with New York Borg? Yeah, talk about this tape. Tell us a little bit about it. Okay, so it all started during the pandemic, the beginning of it. No, just kidding.
Starting point is 01:14:46 Kind of, though. 2019, got like way into synthesizers. It was fun. I play Dungeons and Dragons a lot with my pals. So, you know, Dungeon Synth is a world that was like, found pretty early on for me. Well, not early on, but you know, 2018, 2019, whatever. I was like, wow like wow this is really cool I want to do something like this uh so the whole project just kind of snowballed I had a lot of time you know early 2021 and I was just dinking around on an electron digitone which is what I created the whole album on created the album felt a little concerned that you know as my first album it was i don't know how it's going to be received so i overcompensated and created like this rpg app to go with it the app is so crazy like thanks yeah it it just i don't know it's like hundreds of hours of work into this thing that i had no intention on making like a few months prior to. But really happy with how it turned out. You know, it gave me some room to like work on illustrations and kind of do this weird pixel art thing.
Starting point is 01:15:36 So, yeah, you know, just kind of like launch this little like tiny world I created for this album release. And yeah, it was super fun so you can probably spice up combat a little bit but we'll talk about that off air it's it's it can be a slog the problem is is your character is randomly generated and i should probably just put all the stats and strength because if you get some like guy who's basically a wizard whole you know wielding a zui hander like he's not gonna last that long yeah so i've died a few times i don't even understand how you make how do you make that yeah was this something you are like you have a background in this kind of stuff and then you
Starting point is 01:16:17 then you brought it to the tape or did you learn that as well on like on the fly no i learned all the creative stuff on the fly it was uh i'm a software developer by day that's cats out of the bag that's what i do me too yeah oh no i feel pretty good james in charge of all the power plants around here yeah they're constantly blowing off smoke and alarms are going off whenever he pushes the wrong button. So what do you do? What do you work at Twitter? No, it's just a... Are you Elon Musk?
Starting point is 01:16:54 Contractor. I work for whoever pays me money, I guess. So kind of dependent on the situation. And where did the little skeletons come from? Did you buy them or did you 3d print these gonna let you in on a little secret here lots of secrets there's a web there's a website called amazon.com okay hold on i thought it was little skeleton.com little skeleton archer hold on so i'm gonna go to little skeleton.com
Starting point is 01:17:21 you know for the i i do actually have a couple STLs I'm sitting on that are, like, actual, like, game components for these releases, but I just haven't quite, like, wrapped my brain around the whole 3D printing aspect of things. But hopefully someday that'll get a little upgrade. But for now, they're just, like, you know, little skeleton guys.
Starting point is 01:17:40 I basically needed something to go with the map as you, like, you know, do the little hex crawl thing. And, yeah, those worked out pretty well. I still needed something to go with the map as you do the little hex crawl thing. Those worked out pretty well. I still think it's cool. A lot of people are going to think it's stupid because you just bought them from Amazon, but I still think it's cool. I still think it's cool. There's so many things about this tape that I really
Starting point is 01:17:57 enjoy besides the music, the layout, the skeleton, the game. One of my other favorite parts is the hidden soundtrack where you find the little band camp band camp download codes yeah that beside the hidden soundtrack and then the other artists who you got to contribute stuff is like so funny and like just like i don't know i will can i have an ask here nick can? Can I ask a favor? Yeah. Is it possible if, um, can,
Starting point is 01:18:28 can you do a tape where within the RPG the listener encounters us? Absolutely. And like Jamie, well, he can do it. I'm not sure if he will. Will you? Okay. Let me rephrase. Let's edit that. Will you do that? And like rephrase. Let's edit that. Will you do that? And, like, they can encounter us like you've encountered three, like, well, you counted, like, two cool guys and their friend Jamie on, like, this path. Don't pity me.
Starting point is 01:18:57 Don't pity me. I'm a software guy. I know design patterns. So you also have, and let's get out of the dungeon because the dungeon scares me let's go to space let's go to outer space we're getting there through the atmosphere uh you do another project called uh farcaster and you're putting out a tape called brain machine give me some reverb when I say that, Jamie, because it's a little bit scary. It's a little bit sci-fi.
Starting point is 01:19:28 Brain Machine. So what is Farcaster all about? Because that's a little bit of another universe there, a different world. Yeah, yeah. So actually Farcaster was what I kind of started before Desolation planes and i didn't know what i was doing with it really so i kind of put it on pause but
Starting point is 01:19:50 you know i i love basically like vintage sci-fi movies and you know pulp magazines and things like that it's just kind of a fascinating fascinating world to me so um just trying to capture some of that vibe i guess you know just like zany stuff happening in space and kind of like a lo-fi busted like maybe kind of slow uh score but you know something kind of cinematic something something in that realm so that's kind of what brain machine is all about is just you know trying to capture that you know lo-fi soundtrack for a horrible time and space kind of thing but i have an idea for you um what's that are you familiar with mothership the role-playing game i actually almost built a whole r around this release using Mothership.
Starting point is 01:20:45 I was going to say, because the other one's from Rookborg, then Farcaster should be from Mothership. Yep, 100% correct. Yeah, so hopefully down the line I will. I have some ideas for that, but this year just got too crunchy for me. So y'all are just going to get an album release. No game, sorry. What are these words you're saying?
Starting point is 01:21:05 What? Mothership? Yeah, what's Mothership? It's a get an album release. No game. Sorry. What are these words you're saying? What? Mothership? Yeah, what's Mothership? It's a sci-fi role-playing game. Okay. Yeah. And Mjorkborg is like a black metal role-playing game. Got a black metal role-playing game.
Starting point is 01:21:15 Well, you know, it's like a metal. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Did you see the logo? The logo's scary. Too mean. Okay.
Starting point is 01:21:22 And what is the other? You brought another Desolation Planes tape, right? Yeah. The Kingdom. What's the other one called? That's a new one. Kingdom Fall. And what is the other? You brought another Desolation Plains tape, right? I brought the Kingdom. What's the other one called? That's a new one. Kingdom Fall. Is that a 2023 tape?
Starting point is 01:21:30 No. That's a 2022. That was May 2022. The other one that made our 2022 list was actually from 2021. A bit of a prank. I meant to bring this one.
Starting point is 01:21:42 But we're going to play something off of the... The Kingdom Fall tape. The Kingdom Fall tape. And also, I totally forgot. Every time somebody said old stories, I wanted to go... And I totally forgot. I guess it's kind of too late now.
Starting point is 01:21:57 So, Nick, what else is coming out on... Old stories. Mamma mia! old stories uh yeah so i have a another pal involved who goes by sorcerer um i don't know if you looked at the band camp page but he does kind of there we go um he does kind of more lo-fi beats, but kind of with that, you know, some fantasy flair, some sci-fi flair. We probably talk way too much about this stuff together. One of his albums that came out earlier this year called Music for a Straight-to-Video Fantasy Film, you know, kind of captures that. But yeah, fantastic stuff.
Starting point is 01:22:42 We're hoping to come out with a couple tape releases for him this year and then uh desolations desolation planes sort of hailstone volume two with a question mark at the end of it kind of depends if i can get my ducks in a row for that one but oh you're not gonna call it volume two question mark i think you should call it volume two question mark volume two i don't know yeah because then it's kind of like it adds to the mystery Like is this volume 2 and then it gives you The opening in the room To then the next one can be either volume 3
Starting point is 01:23:12 Or volume 2 And then it's like oh the last one wasn't volume 2 They were asking and it turns out it wasn't Right or it was a secret Volume 4 and then I released Two more albums in between One of the only adventures I got in my life. Very nice.
Starting point is 01:23:28 Very cool stuff. I have some ambitious plans for volume two. But, you know, yeah, again, it's like, I'm sure you all know, but real life gets in the way sometimes. Not with me. I stay focused. I go, I constantly grind. I'm constantly on my grind. And I'm constantly getting everything done.
Starting point is 01:23:45 Personal stuff. Take your supplements. I'm constantly on my grind. I'm constantly getting everything done. Personal stuff. Take your supplements and all that. I take my supplements. I'm doing... What kind of mushrooms am I taking? Cordyceps. I'm doing all the Joe Rogan supplements. Lion's Mane.
Starting point is 01:23:56 It's brain food. Yeah. Alpha brain. Is there anything... You have a lot of stuff. A lot of... Anything you want to leak? Can you give us a little tid stuff a lot of i anything you want to leak any can you give us a
Starting point is 01:24:05 little little tidbit of any uh special idea you got not really you don't want to tell us a little adventure and something an idea i mean besides besides mothership thing well besides uh having encountering us in something and then like you encounter us and i and we drop a tape and you click on in something and then like you encounter us and we drop a tape and you click on the tape and it takes you to like a download something or like a picture of me where i'm like hey what's another like what's an i what's an idea you wanted to implement but you can't figure out how to do it you're like i just i can't figure out the code i've been trying to write that maybe jamie can help you write the code yeah jamie you're hired boom yeah i'll tell you yeah back back to the firecaster thing i'd love
Starting point is 01:24:51 to make uh so i've also been playing a lot of no man's sky the last couple months nice for whatever reason it's pretty pretty it's a pretty game it's a very neat exploration game um would love to see some sort of app kind of like that except you know specific towards like tabletop role-playing games where basically you just punch into coordinates on the app and it drums up a world for you and it's like you know here's this crazy world with like aliens that have four eyes and whatever um four eyes. You're crazy, man. Insane stuff. Chemicals for eyes. Insane. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:25:32 It all comes down to time. Sometimes software development after software development is just a bit much. I know exactly what you mean. Coming from one software developer to another I cannot write code after work Jamie, release
Starting point is 01:25:50 Jamie, stop alright well let's roll right into this Desolation Planes tape what was it called again? Kingdom Fall Old Stories Nick, thank you so much.
Starting point is 01:26:05 Get out of bed. Put on your face paint. Put on your corpse paint. Do some coding. Get out of bed. Put on your corpse paint. Do some coding. And just have a nice regular Sunday. That sounds like good regular Sunday.
Starting point is 01:26:23 And enjoy the weather. Yeah. Thanks for having me Well, yeah. Yeah. Enjoy those guys. All right. Take care. Enjoy the adventure.
Starting point is 01:26:32 Jamie, you did a great job acting like you cared about that. Yeah. Yeah. I was thinking more about the software things. Yeah. Well, that got his.
Starting point is 01:26:38 Yeah. Yeah. Look at this thing. What languages do you write in? Very. Oh, this looks so good. What software development principles do you use in your code? Do you write in what software development principles do you use in your code do you write your tests first what does that mean
Starting point is 01:26:51 I'd like to play the audio adventure 2 if we could play that somehow what do you mean you'd like to play the audio adventure 2 that's just the soundtrack the audio adventure is a band camp code well you can't play that this is a cassette i know that's why i just will play it on your phone through the microphone that's what
Starting point is 01:27:08 i was gonna do loophole motherfucker found a loophole god damn it yeah put wires oh oh my god what the fuck is that yeah i hope i don't get arrested for this. Start playing the tape first, and then... You want me to play... I have to play the tape to make that work? This is audio that goes with the... Oh, so I... This is talking that goes with the...
Starting point is 01:27:34 Oh, so we have to play the tape now. Yeah. So I'm going to play... Is the tape deck on? No, I'll unmute it. There we go. Welcome to the Kingdom Fall Audio Adventure. Familiarize yourself with the Kingdom Fall Castle map and rules within the Kingdom Fall cassette packaging. Be certain that the device in which you are using to play audio is not set to automatically play the next track. If you listen to tracks out of order, in the name of the unholy one, you will certainly be cursed, your skin will rot and you will perish a thousand deaths.
Starting point is 01:28:14 Praise the Dark Lord. There are several types of interactions in this adventure. You will find hidden passages and useful items as you progress. As you do, you will be prompted to write information down about your discoveries. You may use the cassette packaging to record your discoveries along the way, or, you may take notes elsewhere. The adventure is in three acts. Act 1, Act 2 and Act 3.
Starting point is 01:28:41 Rooms and prompts may change based on the current act. Now, let us not dilly-dally any further. And so begins, Kingdom Fall. The castle is under siege by an unholy army. You are locked away in the dungeon, forgotten by everyone except for the lone guard who is posted for prison duty. To begin the scenario, play track 2. You are in a dungeon. A guard watches the cell door. Days pass, you are weak and hungry. You nibble what you can, often old soup bone from the meal you had three days ago. Weeks go by. They feel like years. Until today, that is. As you wake from the comfort of the dank, straw-laden dungeon cell, what remains of the ever-present guard lies before you on the ground, lifeless, underneath the wisp
Starting point is 01:29:35 of a spectral blue floating figure. The figure disappears. Perhaps it was just the sleep in your eyes. Regardless the door of the cell is slightly ajar, unlocked. You set yourself up to make an escape. Add soup bone to your infantry with the corresponding track. Track 9. You make your way into the kitchen. A hide cook bumps into you, grabs the soup bone you carry, and throws it in the soup boiling over the fire. Ah, there you are. His Majesty is quite hungry with all the commotion going about.
Starting point is 01:30:12 Please, put this on and do assist me by carrying food to His Royal Highness. The cook gives one final command, the inner ward is barricaded. Do use the The Servant's Hall way. Add food to your inventory with the corresponding track track 20. You are now aware of the servant's hallway. Draw an arrow from the kitchen to the great hall. If you enter the great hall this way, make a note to play track 31 instead of track 7. If you have food, play its corresponding track. If it is Act 3, play Track 18. Where have you been? The king proclaims. My stomach is rumbling and I haven't gotten much of an appetite for war. Come hither? The king, on his throne, impatiently waits for your approach towards. Ah, lampreys,
Starting point is 01:31:08 my favorite. He states, as he grabs the bowl of lamprey stew from your platter. I have another task for you, he mutters in between slopes of lamprey morsels, the queen has been salted in the palm. Bring her this letter, she'll know what it means. Add to your inventory, one. Unopened letter. With the corresponding track. Track four. Act one has completed.
Starting point is 01:31:38 It is now act two. Too scary. Jesus Christ. So you were playing, all the dialogue there was you were playing on your phone. Yes, because the tape came with a code to scan that is the... Oh, I got to stop the tape. What is that? It is stopped. Where did that is the... Oh, okay. Stop the tape. What is that? It is stopped. Where did that come from?
Starting point is 01:32:07 Yeah, where did that come from? I have no clue. I think this adventure episode has been cursed. Yeah, where did that come from? Oh, my God. Are you sure it wasn't Mike Samberg? No, it wasn't. No, he didn't press any keys.
Starting point is 01:32:21 Oh, I swear to God. The cassette track is muted. This is incredible yeah really so yeah so you play the audio like i guess they're all both audio you play the talking track while you're listening to the tape and there's a map inside the j card and you play corresponding tracks based on what room you go to if anyone says this is not an adventure episode this is a big time adventure i don't know what i don't know i don't know i think i don't know run out of adventures i don't think i could do anymore you know what we should have asked nick um how because jamie talks about he he's a programmer
Starting point is 01:32:53 but he can't change our like profile image of our like of like the tabs out like it's the old logo on the itunes and stuff he's like oh i think you need to call Apple headquarters to change it. And it's like, no, I think you can change it. I want it to be the new picture of the dragon. We'll get Nick back on the phone. Get Nick back on the phone. Send him a new link. But yeah, really cool, right? He's a contractor. He could do it. Oh yeah, we just hire him.
Starting point is 01:33:18 I'm afraid he kind of M. Night Shyamalan'd himself with this label a little bit. As far as, you know, now what? Now every release has to be like a thing he did say he overcompensated yeah he overcompensated the first one which he did it's like it's like those guys who drive around with the trucks and it's like you know you got with the smoke with the smokestack thing yeah yeah it's like all right pal rolling coal rolling coal that's what they call it yeah no he rolled coal with that with that first first two releases
Starting point is 01:33:42 he really rolled coal but maybe he's like one of these geniuses. He's going to keep doing it. And he can do something, and he comes out, and all of a sudden... Or he keeps doing it, and we're like, yeah, we get it. It comes with a game. Oh, yeah. Or he totally pivots, and the next one comes with a basketball and a jersey. And like a directions to a hoop.
Starting point is 01:33:59 And it's like a pin-like location you put in Google Maps, and it takes you to a basketball hoop. And it's like, Nick's a jock now? Yeah. Do you guys hear about... It's a jock label now. It's a jock label now. It's like, yeah, now it's like, who can throw the furthest football?
Starting point is 01:34:14 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Very cool. Anyway, it's one of the coolest things, labels and things I've found in a long time. Love it. That was completely awesome, yeah. So everybody head on over to Old Stories and buy all that stuff so he can buy more corpse painting get the hell out of that bed
Starting point is 01:34:30 and uh jamie boy you got some let's let's end it let's end her out here with a few i got two more tapes i want to play i'm sure you got one i can play one yeah i'll bet you can all right this is one I've been meaning to play for a few episodes. You guys know this label Sound as Language. Speaking of sound, you keep clipping. No, I... Well, it's the end of the episode. We'll figure it out later. I see a red light. The end of the... Okay, yeah.
Starting point is 01:34:58 That checks out. Sure. Sound as Language. A lot of language stuff this episode. Yeah. Adventures, language, sound. This is a label, and I'm not kidding you, they've never sent us anything before.
Starting point is 01:35:10 He's not kidding me. They sent about 40 tapes. Oh, their whole catalog. The whole catalog. Not like one for Mike, one for Jamie, one for Joe. Like, just individual tapes
Starting point is 01:35:19 of their whole catalog. Obviously, nothing's sold out. Or they got extra press copies or who knows what but um i got a call from the post office one day they said are you going to be home today i said yeah they go good because we got a soundless language box down here it's taking up the entire back room we're we've been eating uh lunch off of it so mike hands me this box and says you deal with this you do and uh so i went through through, I listened to stuff, I kept a few, I sent
Starting point is 01:35:46 a few to some friends, I gave some back to Mike for Maddie, I think. So they've all been distributed and disseminated throughout the country and whatnot. We can bust you for distribution. Yeah, but I'm deciding to play this one, Matthew Riles. I've seen him play a couple times
Starting point is 01:36:02 down here in Delaware. I think he's done some stuff on Oxtail. He put out one on this label, which is very good. And Mike, you'll be happy to know, no overdubs. Oh, good. When they overdub. Get it right the first time or don't do it. When I listened to it, I was like, man, I hear a lot of overdubs.
Starting point is 01:36:19 Oh, you call... I have an overdub detector around here somewhere. So on Sound is Language, all the tapes come in these um I don't know what these are called slip cases it's got the catalog number on the side artist name on the front it's a lot of extra work but um
Starting point is 01:36:37 it looks nice yeah it does look nice it's a nice little package are they are the backs all like this these this grid of different colors different Pantone yeah I was gonna say you got the Pantone got we got more colors we got some grays and some beiges to uh identify we'll check we'll identify those but um yeah cool cool little label i was i like trying to pull up the different artists that have been on the label i like the tape too uh let's see if there's kioni sloping big liquid shy layers clear weather thin black a little black text zachary utz taranova brin euglossine holosar flight mode max gowan i don't know cool little label i would say
Starting point is 01:37:14 check them out i think are they from the carolinas i would say it i'm not gonna say it but i would say it he's gonna pretend like he's gonna pretend like he's gonna say it jamie's constantly pretending like he wants to say i'm knowing a I'm learning a lot of things about Jamie now. I don't know how to interact with him anymore. Well, I'm glad we're finally going to play something from this label because it's... I don't know what it is, but when a label sends like 100 tapes, I immediately...
Starting point is 01:37:36 It sets off this like there's a part of my brain that shuts down and I just push them all away. I like to get one tape. Yeah. I like one tape and I go, oh, let me dig into this tape and really dissect it and really get into it. And then somebody sends me two tapes and I just push them all away. I like to get one tape. Yeah. I like one tape and I go, oh, let me dig into this tape and really dissect it and really get into it.
Starting point is 01:37:48 And then somebody sends me two tapes and I go, okay. Well, you get decision paralysis when there's too many. Yeah, I just go, okay, I'm never going to, I can't, I can't do it. Because how do you choose?
Starting point is 01:37:56 How do I even start? Especially if they're all bad, then it's just kind of like, oh, I'll just take one and give the rest away. Who cares? But these aren't all bad. But they all looked good. They're all are good they are good this is a good
Starting point is 01:38:07 label yeah which made me feel so bad to give him the jamie of all people but he seemed to you figured it out i kept a few it's okay so matthew riles will play that good very good and then i'm gonna end it out here with two 2023 years i got uh This comes in a little... I don't like the feel of that. Okay. I'm very, very glad you said that, Joby. Because I have... That really does not sound right. We know you're a bit of a texture guy. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:38:36 I have two tapes back here that I've been holding. Can you close your eyes real quick? Yeah. Jamie, would you mind getting a picture of this? You can take it with your phone, I guess. Oh, yeah. Sure. I want you to get a picture of this? You can take it with your phone, I guess. Oh, yeah. Sure. I want you to get a picture of the moment Joe B. touches these two tapes. This first tape is by Brandon Dunlap.
Starting point is 01:38:52 It's called Heavy Idol. If you're in this coffee, we don't want to advertise Duncan Dunlap. No, yeah. They're just called Duncan now, Jamie. I wasn't sure if you knew about Duncan Dunlap. But still, we're not advertising that either. Move away from the mic a little bit. No, actually, we want to get the audio, too, I guess. Here, Brandon Dunlap.
Starting point is 01:39:04 Let's get the reaction. No, actually, we want to get the audio too, I guess. Here, Brandon Dunlap, let's get the reaction. Oh, no, I don't... Well... It comes in a little silk bag like you maybe buy, like, fancy panties in. Yeah, panties come in this. Yeah, I know panties come in this. Okay, I don't mind this. This is okay.
Starting point is 01:39:17 Because you feel the little... Open your eyes now. You don't mind that one. I really thought that would have sent you, like, just off the edge. At first, I didn't like it. But then, you know, I learned to like it. All right. And then this other one I want you to feel.
Starting point is 01:39:31 It's been up here for a while. Oh, shit. It's a tape called... Hold on. Do you have something I can rub my hands on to cleanse my palate? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Rub them off on the table. I need something smooth.
Starting point is 01:39:41 This is by someone called The Maze. A lot of maze stuff. I know. This fits in. Like corn. The theme. Do you know there's a big debate on Wikipedia whether to call corn corn or maze? M-A-I-Z-E.
Starting point is 01:39:54 Aren't they two different things? Huge debate. I don't know. Would the Z be backwards? Look it up. Take your hands out. I thought maze was like a different, you know, like a... This one's a little rougher. What's this on here? What's this? I thought that would drive you a different, you know, like a, nah, this one, this one's a little rougher.
Starting point is 01:40:05 What's this on here? What's this? I thought that would drive you nuts. Oh yeah. I don't, this is like burlap. It's like a burlap sack. Yeah. This one I don't like.
Starting point is 01:40:12 Okay, good. Yeah. Yeah. So that's similar to this burlap sack for this. Let's, let's have a burlap and more of like a, a silk stocking. Oh, actually this tape slides out like a lug. Can you guys leave the room for a little bit? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:40:24 Turn the lights off. This is like a little, it's a Meadow Argus, this old rotten barge self-release tape. It comes in like individual, all these baggies are like made. They're all different. It's an addition of 32. I guess that's how many bags he had. It's how many supplies were available
Starting point is 01:40:48 to make the bags there's a supply chain shortage there was enough pieces of different pantyhose there's bag flutes that kill all the pantyhose but he was able to get enough of the supply chain to make 32 of these tapes um it's
Starting point is 01:41:07 uh tiny crackoff who used to run a label called dnt if anyone remembers that i remember that yeah ran into the ground i guess because ain't around anymore but uh i guess this is like you run your own label and then you just start self-releasing tapes. I guess even your own label doesn't want to put it out. That's brutal. But this is just solid. I'm going to move these tapes that we're not playing. Solid drone, some field recordings. So if you're allergic to those, be wary.
Starting point is 01:41:42 You said field recordings? Field recordings, yeah. Yeah, right? You're field recordings? Field recordings. Yeah, right? You're gonna get a rash. So I'm gonna play that and then end the show with a new one on a label that is having a little bit of a comeback, it seems like, this year. I listened to some of this one. This one's
Starting point is 01:41:57 super good. He want that cake. Bad cake. A label that... What would you say? 2015? 2016? 2016 was that like a about when they were around you're a discogs i guess so i know it's tony lian yes tony lan who this is a duo featuring the very same tony along with another person named uh colin smith it's colin smith and tony lian Colin Smith it's Colin Smith and Tony Leanne
Starting point is 01:42:26 they run this label this is the first Bad Cake release in a bit and it is a doozy it's a double tape they're long tapes they're bizarre tapes it's like a belligerent storytelling tape it's the kind of tape that I kind of didn't want to like
Starting point is 01:42:42 I can't explain it I refuse to do it here. I refuse to be bullied into explaining it. Artwork by Tiny Little Hammers, but you never could tell. No, that doesn't look like it. Whole new style. Yeah, I'm assuming maybe it's a collab with Bed Cake and Tiny Little Hammers. But I'm excited to see Bed Cake back for the 2023 and see what happens.
Starting point is 01:43:06 That's an adventure within itself. This is one of the only adventures I got in my life. So end with those two. I love the double pink white tapes here in the back. It looks beautiful. Double high Noroco case. Don't you just love the energy level at the end of these shows? Joe's on his phone.
Starting point is 01:43:21 I'm sorry. I'm reading the corn maze debate. I couldn't get it out of my head. I to know something about it i don't have a lot to add to this one i don't like the textures i just did the whole texture game we moved on to the mildred did i say it was mildred bonk did i even say the name of the tape i don't know if you did that's how low that's how low that's how i'm clipping again that wasn't. I'm clipping again. Stop talking so loud. That's how low the energy gets at the end. I didn't even say Mildred Bonk is the name of the artist. That's the name of the doodro.
Starting point is 01:43:50 Let me see the tape. Let me participate. The name of the tape. Hold on. Let me start. Let me get all my shit together for this Mildred Bonk tape because I like it. Because it's a good tape and I like it. And I like bad cake and they deserve respect.
Starting point is 01:44:01 Did they send more than one copy of this one? Shut up! Skeeg, colon, the locomotive powers of death on bad cake. It's bad cake is back, baby. Okay? First release in 2023. It's a dual Colin Smith and Tony Leigh Yen. Give them respect.
Starting point is 01:44:18 Respect. Okay? Artwork by Dylan McConnell from Tiny Little Hammers. Give this respect. I don't get any respect. No respect around here. What's the deal? I don't get any respect. Hey, hey, hey. No respect around here. Hey, what's the deal? Hey, I told my wife.
Starting point is 01:44:28 Hickory dickory dock. Wait, are there two different comedians? I think you could put both together. Hey, I told my wife. I get no respect. She said, hickory dickory dock. Oh. Oh.
Starting point is 01:44:37 Oh. Hey, I told my wife. She said, I get no respect. She said, you might be a redneck. Oh. Ladies and gentlemen, the two of you. What's the deal with airline peanuts? Hey, I told my wife. I got it. Hey, I get no respect. She said, you might be a redneck. Go. Ladies and gentlemen, the German government. What's the deal with airline peanuts? Oh.
Starting point is 01:44:47 Hey, I told my wife. Hey, I told my wife, I get no airline peanuts. She said, you might be a redneck. Go. And then you punched up with one of the SNL things. Hey, I told. Let me think of another comedian. Ladies and gentlemen, find your own.
Starting point is 01:44:59 That's it. That's all I know. Well, I'll just do the same one again and then he'll hit it with this SNL and then we'll go into the tapes. Hey! Because it will come off the last joke. It's like, Hey, I told my wife.
Starting point is 01:45:15 That clip. Don't get too excited. You're too excited. Hey, I told my wife. Maybe it shouldn't be my wife. Maybe it should... No, because... My doctor.
Starting point is 01:45:32 Hey, I... Oh, I got... Hey, I told my wife. Hold on. Hey, I told my wife's gynecologist that I get away with peanuts. He said, hey, maybe you're a redneck. Oh, a curry dickery duck!
Starting point is 01:45:46 Ladies and gentlemen, corn. It's maize. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. We'll be right back. so I'm sorry. This is the man of the world I will keep you safe I will keep you safe I will keep you safe I will keep you safe I will keep you safe I will keep you safe I will keep you safe

Starting point is 01:56:45 I'll tell you, one time I had a boner that lasted longer than four hours, and do you think I called anyone? Certainly not. I had a party, that's what I did. Boner Gems 2021 It's fun to think of your boner as a scepter of truth, cutting righteousness through the darkness, or perhaps as the one voice of reason in an insane world. Sometimes I imagine the infinitely complex games of social chess any one of my elections would have to play in order to win the presidency of the United States
Starting point is 01:57:29 of my penis.
