Starting point is 00:00:22 podcast podcast podcast podcast podcast podcast Tabs out, Cassette Podcast Episode 187 Tabs out, Cassette Podcast Episode You had that ready, huh? Yeah, I got a little prepared before everybody came here
Starting point is 00:00:39 I got up real early this morning and I got that sound clip because it's episode number 187. Did you get the rights for that? Yeah, I was up all night getting the paperwork filed. Because it's Sunday. They said I can play it twice. So that's the only two times I can use it.
Starting point is 00:00:56 Who is that, Snoopy Dog? If I want to be a bad boy, I'll play it one more time later on the episode. So everybody tune into the whole episode. We'll see if I play it. Joby, I'm looking at your tapes here. Stop. I think one of them we might...
Starting point is 00:01:14 Can I take a little peek? You've been touching them. Let me see. I've been touching them, looking at them. Ooh, look at that. Don't be naughty with them. Hold on. I think one we're going to have to look up
Starting point is 00:01:27 because I feel like there has been a minor cancellation. Oh, did that one get canceled? Is that why it's not on the band camp? I think, no, that, that, surprising, interesting. You think I'm talking about that one. Oh, which one are you talking about? All right, we'll talk about it on the break. Let's see, let's see what you pick.
Starting point is 00:01:44 But I want to, actually, I did that on purpose. I want to play edgy stuff. Oh, I forgot. You're kind of an edgelord. wake up alright we'll talk about it on the break let's see what you pick but I wanna actually I did that on purpose I wanna play edgy stuff oh I forgot you're kind of an edgelord yeah an edgelord what does that mean
Starting point is 00:01:52 edgelord is that a sexual thing well I mean everything's a sexual thing if you do it right it's like if you're like Steve Albini Steve Albini
Starting point is 00:02:00 for the Beatles yeah so if you like record music like in a clay studio like the walls have to be clay studio like the walls have to be the compressor the mics have to add the right compressor on it okay what is i still don't know what that means though i'm like steve albini anyway doesn't matter he's an edgelord i'm an
Starting point is 00:02:16 edgelord now we both play controversial stuff i almost brought my gg allen tape but i couldn't find it next time well do you want to go i want to go first maybe play the edgy one so now you said it's not the one it's not the yeah the one it's not the one i think the one you think is the one that has the person's been canceled is not the one it's a different one so right now yeah this is kind of an edgelord test okay are you edgy enough to even know what is edgy i don't think you do you have four tapes in front of you now i said now maybe it's that one that's got canceled because of the because of the letters you suck because of the letters you think off there's been a font cancellation? Yeah, wow. Can you be canceled?
Starting point is 00:03:09 Can a label or an artist or somebody in this crazy cassette world be canceled for a font choice? I don't know. I got some people I want to line up. What language is that? I think that's Russian. That's why I'm saying it might be canceled. Wait, so it's not that one? It's not that one either.
Starting point is 00:03:24 No, I'm not. No. This one? That's that one. So it's not that one. It's not that one either. No, I'm not. No. This one? That's the one, yeah. This one got canceled? I think that's the one, yeah. Why? We'll look it up.
Starting point is 00:03:34 Pick one of your other ones. But this is a good one. You think so, but I don't think so. This one got canceled. I think the internet came for them. Too scary. It's all in Japanese. What is your point?
Starting point is 00:03:50 What is your point? How did they find out? They can cancel you anywhere these days, buddy. What? Yeah. Not just in America? Land of the free, my ass. Wake me up.
Starting point is 00:04:02 How dare you. All right, well, Joby. Well, then I want to go for the one that I thought was going to be cancelled Okay yeah go for that one Because I bet you that person's cancelled Because that's not on the band camp So I thought that one maybe got cancelled It looks disgusting
Starting point is 00:04:18 Yeah it looks like John Powell brought it Should we look it up first and make sure I couldn't find a I was in the car, so... I hate... I'm sure you can sleuth a little bit better than me. I hate doing this. I hate...
Starting point is 00:04:29 Searching for virgin flower on the internet? Who names something virgin flower? Maybe it is John Pyle. It's so disgusting. I mean, Discogs didn't take them down. Does Discogs cancel people, Jamie? They only don't... They won't put up anything that's like direct hate speech. Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:48 Or I think they let you put it in the database, but they won't sell it in the store. Okay. So if I search Screwdriver, I can see their discography, but I can't buy anything? I think so. What about the first record? You can buy that one.
Starting point is 00:05:01 And he will. That's my favorite joke. It's a really bad joke. All right. Well, you want to play this virgin virgin flower guys i'm so scared right now on pop nihil pop nihil is like a it's a scary harsh noise it's scary there's a it's black and white there's a guy or a person's maybe screaming in a microphone is this an old tape show this is is old, yeah. This is like number 46 in the label's catalog, right? Correct. So that puts it in... There's a noose on the back. That...
Starting point is 00:05:29 Okay. Yeah. I don't know about this one. That puts it in 2015. Are we sure we want... It's an edition of 50 and it's not on their band cam? No, because it goes like 47. Why do you think they skipped them? It goes like 47 and then they skipped this one. So they intentionally
Starting point is 00:05:46 skipped this one. I think so. Do they skip anything else? There's another picture of someone scary that has a shirt with Old English on it. Read some. They're wearing a mask. Oh, read some song titles? Yeah, read some track titles. I don't think there are any. Let's make our decision on the track titles. Well, the tape is called Absence of Essence.
Starting point is 00:06:02 Absence of Essence. It doesn't smell like anything. There's no track titles. Hold on. Absence of Essence. Absence of Essence. It doesn't smell like anything. Wake me up! There's no track titles. Hold on. Absence of Essence. You want me to fix that? Done.
Starting point is 00:06:13 There's nothing inside. Yeah, there's no track titles. I don't want any salad. Let's just go for it. Let me see the guy on the cover. Well, he's a little scary. He is scary. He's mad about something.
Starting point is 00:06:23 Probably getting taken off the band camp. Fuck you. Let me see. Can you, Jamie,. Probably getting taken off the band camp. Fuck yeah. Let me see. Jamie, check to see if you can buy this on Discox. It has been sold, but it's not currently for sale. Last sold, December 18th, 2015. Before people got cancelled?
Starting point is 00:06:39 Can you not buy it anymore? Let me see if I can sell it. I can sell a copy. You can sell a copy? Do you want me to sell your copy? Sell my copy right now. Let's see by the end of the episode if we can sell it. Let's get it up there.
Starting point is 00:06:55 How much do you want to sell it for? Oh, I don't know. What did the last one go for? $4. Okay. I'll do mine for starting at $3. It's not a bidding situation, huh? No.
Starting point is 00:07:04 $3.50. What's the media condition? No, I think we should start the bidding at three. Sleeve condition, mint. I would say mint, Mike. Would you say mint? I would say mint condition. I would say this is a mint.
Starting point is 00:07:18 Not an NM? What did you say, $3? $350. $350? $375. Go $375. I think you can get free shipping. Yeah, do free shipping.
Starting point is 00:07:28 It's going to cost you about $4.50 to ship this stuff. All right, it's listed. All right, good. Okay, so we'll see if we can sell this by the end of the episode. Don't let me forget, though, because then somebody's going to buy it and I'm not going to have it. I'll give it to you. Joby will give it to you. Legally, he has to give you this virgin flower tape.
Starting point is 00:07:45 Virgin flower, Pop Nihil, Absence of Essence. From 2015, a tape that possibly is a bit problematic. We'll find out. We'll say if it sells
Starting point is 00:07:54 by the end of the episode, depending on who buys it, we'll know. We'll know. All right, Jamie, now what do you have? What shady shit do you have? Please play something normal,
Starting point is 00:08:02 by the way. Normal? Yeah. Please, experimental stuff i mean something's not mean or scary i got this enix cave difficult enix cave you know enix kind of sounds like a word that you would spell backwards and it spells snike snike oh i have a pair of snikes yeah um this is a um hold on stop real quick yeah enix sounds like a word that you would spell backwards and yeah snike it's snike backwards so it's not a word backwards all right go on
Starting point is 00:08:31 all right anyway uh this one mike you you uh you sent me a text message and said you might like this one and i said i do like it and then i bought it yeah i heard this on drongo tapes yeah new one on drongo a label that slaps like like no other it's just hitting hard where are they from well it's called ultra i'm sorry it's called drongo ultra high bias super tapes limited is that the full name is that their full name yeah interesting i never knew that i thought it was if you go to drongotapes.com dr Drango, oh, you're right. Drango, hi. Have we played this before? Are you talking about the canceled tape now? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:10 Have we played it on the show? I don't know. I think we have. A long time ago. Okay, that's probably what got it canceled. Well, then that's an even better reason not to play it. Pick something else. Don't worry about it.
Starting point is 00:09:22 Don't worry about it. All right, Drango is a tape from Seattleattle washington seattle washington excellent yeah they're constantly hitting i i mean they're constantly hitting and yeah i told you the seven heavenly palaces but enix cave i text you right away and i said jamie i know you like when these suckers blow on horns i do and you know non-traditional excuse me let me finish i extended technique shut up shut up and let me finish blow on horns there's nothing inside in non-traditional ways that when they blow on them yeah yeah you love when they're like you know what i like even better when even better? When I don't know it's coming, and I hear some synthesizers, some field recordings,
Starting point is 00:10:09 and then a saxophone comes in. Oh, yeah. So you're sitting there, and you're like, oh, man, listen to this synthesizer. Yeah. This guy's just playing... And all of a sudden... Scream. Scream.
Starting point is 00:10:22 Yeah. That was too melodious. Yeah.ious yeah that was that yeah i like it a little less traditional than that um hand me the tape so is this just one person um on discogs just says zachary wiener stop stop it now grow up I could do an hour on that alone. Zachary Wiener? Yeah. I could do that. Penis.
Starting point is 00:10:55 All kinds of stuff like that. I gotta say, I don't like this, like, why do they use eight different colors? It looks like Sesame Street designed the... Yeah, it kind of does. It kind of throws you off the scent a little bit this like why do they use like eight different colors it looks like a sesame street design the yeah it kind of does and it's fine it kind of throws you off the scent a little bit because when you see that cover black and white photocopied dark you know you're thinking satan you're thinking dungeons no i'm not i'm scared now this is a scary block this is scary i know i'm not thinking that at all
Starting point is 00:11:26 no but then there's all the yeah they use all these like primary colors and it's like yellow green red blue black yellow green red blue back i don't like it looks like a child did it it's like a little child did this but but well if there's one thing to pick apart from the tape, fine. Pick that apart. I also like how the numbering situation on the inside is 58 out of 70! Exclamation point. Yeah, I do like that. They're very excited about that. Maybe that's a funny number that we don't know about. Oh, yeah, maybe it is.
Starting point is 00:12:01 I stopped paying attention to some of the numbers. Enix Cave is... Some of the numbers. Zachary Wiener. Mitch Dion on drums on tracks 1, 4, 5, and 6. Who couldn't make them all? Aiden Pearson, upright bass on track 4. Cameron Malinoy?
Starting point is 00:12:22 How do you say that name? M-O-L-Y-N-E-U-X Malinois. Malinois? Yeah. Cameron Malinois? Harmonium on track four. A lot of Harmoniums lately.
Starting point is 00:12:35 They're coming back. Yeah. They're having a boom. There's a Harmonium boom. They just found a bunch of them. Where do you get a Harmonium? You can't buy one of those on Sweetwater. You gotta go to like a flea market.
Starting point is 00:12:47 No, you can buy them new. You can buy them new? Yeah. I have one. Okay. Yeah. Where'd you get it? It's got some sort of Indian website.
Starting point is 00:12:54 Okay. Harmonium for sale. Harmonium for sale. There's my... Okay, my alarm just went off. You can get them off of Etsy, Amazon. You can get them anywhere. You can get anything on Amazon these days, Jamie. You can get them anywhere. You can get anything on Amazon these days, Jamie.
Starting point is 00:13:06 You can get them anywhere, you idiot. I bet I can get one tomorrow. I have Prime. I might be able to get it tonight. You can get one used on Reverb. All right, I'm going to bust out two of them. Of course. I'm going to play this Tim Gick.
Starting point is 00:13:19 Well, I'm going to play three next time. You're having trouble playing one, my friend. A Tim gick tape i know right these names these names i could do an hour on that name tim kick um the air to the sky the air to the sky sounds like dick sounds like dick body without organs sounds like jamie from the pants down no rent record is this on no rent Without organs. Sounds like Jamie from the Pants Down. No Rent record. Is this on No Rent?
Starting point is 00:13:49 It is on No Rent. I believe No Rent records out of Philadelphia is sporting a new logo. Let me see that. Look at that. They're throwing me off the scent as well. Wow. Who's No Rent again? They like cops?
Starting point is 00:13:59 No, no, no. You're thinking of a different label. You're thinking of Strange Mono? Oh, okay. Yeah, they're both from Philadelphia, though. Good city. But no rent. They're up there on releases at this point.
Starting point is 00:14:10 This must be 160-something. That's too many. You think that's too many? At some point, a label needs to stop. I'm a quality over quantity man. At some point, a label needs to say, you know what? We've done enough. We can't put it all out.
Starting point is 00:14:22 We've done enough. Take some time with your noise. Instead of just doing all these no overdubs, one takes. Do some takes. Do some takes. Yeah, take your time with it. No, no. Do some overdubs. Do some overdubs. What's not true to the art, Jamie? I'm looking for tapes
Starting point is 00:14:38 with just overdubs. Yeah. All overdubs. I want a tape that's recorded in several takes, all overdubs i want a tape that's recorded recorded in several takes all overdubs unmastered oh unmastered unmastered doesn't repeat on the b-side besides blank no j card let's get back to the basics people come on old school old school old school yeah uh but this is a new one on no rent 2023 um what are with these shells? These shells are getting so weird.
Starting point is 00:15:08 I feel like we're going to get to the point where the plastic is just paper. They're cutting back on quality? Is it getting... Yeah. But this dude, Tim Gick, is a member of Crazy Doberman. The Indiana Troop. You hear that? That's the actual tape.
Starting point is 00:15:28 Listen to Joby fiddle with that tape. This is ASMR. You know what that is. I'm getting the tingles. If Joby fiddled, keep fiddling with that tape. If Joby fiddled with a tape like this in episode 80. Give me some reverb. Give him some reverb.
Starting point is 00:15:41 I'm going to do some mouth noises. If he was fiddling with the tape 20, 40 episodes ago, it wouldn't sound any... Can I play Fall Friday? It wouldn't sound anything like this. It would have a chunkiness to it. What's that, like a pitch shift you're doing on for me? Tapes used to have a chunkiness to them. You're on flanger. I have you on flanger by accident.
Starting point is 00:16:08 Wait, wait, wait wait wait wait wait there's nothing inside ah okay that did get scary that was no overdubs that was no over that was one take yeah that's the kind of shit i'm looking for and that we just did it we're done this is maybe no rental put that out maybe i won't i'm looking for. And that, we just did it. Put it out. We're done. Maybe no one will put that out. Maybe. I'm not going to release my music on such shit quality cassette tapes. Oh, right, right, right. I want thick plastic windows.
Starting point is 00:16:52 I want the shell to be thick. The oscillators on this tape are thick. Yeah. They're thick. This guy hits the oscillators. He hits them thick. But the shell on these tapes, you know, it's a supply chain. Timothy Gick makes it thick.
Starting point is 00:17:05 Oh, okay, yeah, feel free to use that. Okay, and then I'm going to go, I'm going to play one on orange milk. Taped by Morgan Garrett. Mamma mia! Out of Philadelphia. Another Philadelphia thing. Another Philadelphia thing. Did you do that on purpose?
Starting point is 00:17:24 I did. Do you like it? Do you. Did you do that on purpose? I did. Do you like it? Do you like that I did it? I don't know. If you like, let me know if you like it or not. Extreme fantasy. And I know you boys like extreme fantasy.
Starting point is 00:17:36 What are some of your extreme fantasies? What's your most extreme fantasy? It's only 10 o'clock in the morning here. What's your most extreme fantasy? My most extreme fantasy. There's an extreme fantasy going on in this cover here. What's your most extreme fantasy? My most extreme fantasy. There's an extreme fantasy going on in this cover. I don't have my glasses on. Mamma mia, what is going on in this cover?
Starting point is 00:17:52 Oh, I don't know what's going on. Somebody is like... There's light bulbs. Somebody has been turned into a silicone... I don't like this font. It's too extreme. Don't get me... Joe.
Starting point is 00:18:00 Oh, the back. I can't even read this. Look on the inside. Oh, yeah. No, don't get... I can't even read this. Look on the inside. Oh, yeah. No, don't get... We've talked about this before. We've drug orange milk through the mud because of their font. I like the inside.
Starting point is 00:18:13 I like the tape. Why do you have to disagree with me? So Seth Graham's sending you tapes? They got the window, too. They got the... What's going on with orange milk? Seth's supposed to be sending me tapes. No, he sent this to me but this is um this person is on tour now i believe
Starting point is 00:18:30 they're on tour yeah what the fuck is this what is going on is this some sort of like are we like against reading the track list now is that a cool thing i'm cool now now. I'm surfing. I'm vaping. I'm dabbing. I'm not reading the track titles. Whatever. But yeah, this is a weird tape that kind of like, I don't know. You'll hear it. You'll hear it.
Starting point is 00:18:59 So yeah, I'll do those two. You ready to go into them? Yeah. All right. Wake me up. Wake me up wake me up I'm coming home I'm coming home I'm coming home I'm coming home I'm coming home

Please, please. expected what no and jamie give me some back i gotta do some some talking to thank you so much please please if virgin flower is a shady character of any i don't think so after listening to it i don't think there's anything shady about it looks so shady sounds so shady not on the band camp for some reason we couldn't find anything but for any reason we mess up Jamie be more serious than this when I'm doing something like this come on no this isn't funny
Starting point is 00:41:11 listen to the drums it's like drum and bass it's like jungle it's like a Japanese animation cartoon it's like the beginning of Dragon Ball Z. Jamie, stop. Jamie, stop. Jamie, stop. Jamie, stop.
Starting point is 00:41:29 Jamie, stop. Jamie. Jamie. Jamie. Jamie. Jamie. What do you think, Jamie? What do you think, Jamie?
Starting point is 00:41:36 Now I got heavy. This is actually pretty good. So good. This is actually pretty good. Then that Enix Cave 7 Heavenly Palaces on Drongo. Tim Gick, Body Without Organ, Sounds Like Jamie from the Pants Down on No Rent. Morgan Garrett, Extreme Fantasy on Orange Milk.
Starting point is 00:41:56 Can't read the font on the back. Won't get into that again. Get into that. Every episode we play something on Orange Milk, I say, can't read the dang font. Won't do it anymore. Probably will, though. All right. place up an orange milk i say can't read your dang font won't do it anymore probably will though all right jamie let's stop it i was enjoying that all right i got some enough with your game
Starting point is 00:42:15 did you say my name because i'm going first next round again you didn't go i didn't go that's true i did jo Joe did. Dummy. Ah. So dumb. You suck! All right, what do you got? You can go first. Okay. Yeah, I got some more saxophone on this one. I can't believe I couldn't see! Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:34 Too scary. You love saxophone. You're like Lisa Simpson when it comes to that thing. Yeah. I had some Simpson sound clips. I forgot to put them on here. Cool story. Thanks. I got this cool story it's got an ending too this one's not even out yet
Starting point is 00:42:50 wow what a flex on Null Zone from Athens, Georgia Michael Potter's label this is Michael's project The Electric Nature. Two of his other buddies from Athens and Jeff Tobias on saxophone.
Starting point is 00:43:11 So how many people? Is Jeff Tobias one of the two buddies? No, he's a different, he's a guest. He's only on side A, Jamie. Yeah. Ah, okay. That's the side we're going to be listening to. Sounds like a good bunch, good bunch of buddies having a good time.
Starting point is 00:43:25 Yep. Good time buddies. Good time buddies just having a good time just blowing on that horn. Everybody get a chance blowing on the horn? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:31 Is a saxophone something you kind of one guy blows on and he passes it to the next? Yeah, blow it to you, man. Blow on this thing. Here, pass it to me. I want to see it.
Starting point is 00:43:43 I dare to. Oh, this time I can't believe I couldn't to you oh it's this purple one yeah oh whoa look at this like shell uh sticker on here i like when they do the actually you know what do i like it or do i not like it i like it but then when they cover the entire shell of the cassette but then you can't see the window i know does that even have a window i tried holding up to the light, too, to see if I could see it, and I couldn't. Yeah, and you can't see the window on the tape. All this time, I couldn't believe I couldn't see.
Starting point is 00:44:11 I can't believe I couldn't see! Don't let me die here. But could it possibly not have a window? There's nothing inside! Like, we peeled the sticker away. It's solid plastic. Peel it off. Don't do it. I'm not going to peel it off. I'm going to wager that this is windowless. No, there's a window.
Starting point is 00:44:30 Let me see it. I can peel it. It's all flat. Let me see. There's no window. Yeah, I guess there's no window so it doesn't obscure anything. Right, because there would be an indent. Can I still rip it off? No, please don't.
Starting point is 00:44:45 Look, this tape's all... Stop doing... Is that your new thing? No, I'm illustrating another tape that has that flimsy window. Oh, the windows in the middle have been flimsy for a while. That's not what I speak of when I say...
Starting point is 00:44:58 Virgin Flower's not flimsy. This is stiff as a rock. Yeah, well, the older ones are stiff. When I'm talking about the quality of shells going down i'm talking about the the whole shell of the cassette as a person who knows a lot about tapes i can tell you i've been touching them for a lot a long time i've been touching them a lot anyway that one has no window windowless and it's and they've been getting like thinner and smoother well thanks thanks yeah i feel i feel like every tape that is of lower quality you should have one of those biden
Starting point is 00:45:34 i did that sticker splitting at it oh man this looks tight though all the lightning it's scary is this a scary tape in nature it's a bit of a slow burner. Slow burner, but yeah, it's a builder. It's moody. It's a deep listening experience. Oh, a deep listening experience. Oh, shit. I didn't bring a blanket.
Starting point is 00:45:55 There are two labels involved in this. You only listed Null Zone. Oh, I didn't realize there was a second label. Well, down at the bottom here, I believe it says NZ51, but it also says FTR727? Now, Jamie, what the fuck is that? Well, I know Null Zone has, like, sublabels, like that Garden Portal was one of the sublabels, so I wonder if the FTR is, like, the... But how's it already up to 747?
Starting point is 00:46:24 Well, maybe they're how's your sub label how's your like i you know i don't really get into the the dom sub thing but i'm not letting my sub get 700 more releases than me i'll knock until you try it you're right yeah figure that out and then we'll uh we'll play something on your tape here the electric nature i feel like they hit the theme a little too hard with the artwork there's too much electricity and nature yeah it's a little heavy yeah all right joe b why why jamie's trying to figure out what the hell this uh no that can't be your new thing well this is a rubber band yeah i in general in general give me something
Starting point is 00:47:05 don't give him don't give him reverb i'm trained classically you're flat you put that out that's all i would say any label if they want to put out any of joe b's stuff he's been making it to today, they can. Don't put it on the internet, though. You figure that out, and then Joe B, you go ahead and you play something. And be careful.
Starting point is 00:47:34 Be careful. Do I have other canceled ones? Be careful. You always might. Well, I'll just play this one from the mailbag that I just picked, because it looks pretty. Oh, yeah. It does look very pretty. Very pretty. Very, looks very, very what like 70s new agey
Starting point is 00:47:53 jamie give us some music in the background he talks about how do you think you say i think you say this person's name david david david settling it's like david but david but there's an e there's an extra E at the end. I think it's David. Yeah. Settling. Lingorian. Oh, Michael Potter's writing me back. I asked him about FTR. Typing. Yep, he deleted it.
Starting point is 00:48:11 He started typing something, and he deleted it. Ooh! Bessalacious! Wow, he's scared. Now he's typing again. Lingorian. He's scared. Went back.
Starting point is 00:48:22 A collection. Have him call in. What are A collection. Have him call in. What are you doing? Have him call in. Give him like a Zoom link or something. Jesus Christ. I don't have all the Zoom stuff set up. I don't care.
Starting point is 00:48:31 Give me your cell phone number, Jamie. All right, Joby, what do you got there? I'm trying. I think there's a typo. Oh, my God. Linguarian Pastoral. And then it says, a collection, seven instrumental folk songs. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:48:43 They biffed? There's a biff, right? Shouldn't it be a collection of? Let me. Oh, my God. They biffed? There's a biff, right? Shouldn't it be a collection of? Let me see. Let me see. Way to go. Oh, duh. I know what FTR is.
Starting point is 00:48:53 What? Feeding Tube Records. Oh. I still don't know what. Okay. It's a split release with them. He said he just woke up. What?
Starting point is 00:49:03 No, he didn't. Wake me up um jamie while you were like having fun with your friends and playing on your phone me and joe b discovered a typo i like that you were first on this we discovered a typo on this cassette tape here this david how do you say the name david i don't know i can't like none of us can get this right but we're like but however you say it they definitely fucked up uh david settling on island house recordings um i've never heard of this label no we got three tapes came in from them keep playing that i like that very pretty uh they they all have the same kind of aesthetic i i want to say it's it's somewhat
Starting point is 00:49:45 of a new label their band camp there's like nine things on there um yeah they all have this like um this look of uh i don't want i don't want to compare it to like astral spirits because that's not what it is at all but like it's the first thing that jumps out in my head of like when it's like when it's like you got like this consistent image on the cover and text and this manila background but a gradient on the spine it's beautiful it's beautiful they did an excellent job on all this stuff and i wonder who is dedicated to mythos, the memory of mythos, 2011, 2022. Who do you think that is? I don't know. Joseph Albrecht, Emergency Group, Seaweed, Sea Wine of Battery.
Starting point is 00:50:35 I'm just reading other names off the bank camp here. I can just read stuff, too. New York, New York is where they're from. The label is from. New York. The city? They're from there. New York City? Why'd they say it twice?
Starting point is 00:50:44 A little label based on a little... They're from there. New York City? Why'd they say it twice? A little label based on a little... They're like, hold on, you gotta say this like, I'm from New York. It's just a little label based on a little island in the East River. That's literally... Jamie, give me some nice... Give me some going down on a
Starting point is 00:50:59 gondola music for this one. It's just Island House Recordings. Oh, you want gondola music? Yeah, give me that song just Island House Recordings. Oh, you want Gondola music? Yeah. All right, I gotcha. Island House Recordings, New York, New York. It's just a little label
Starting point is 00:51:13 based on a little island in the East River. You can't do that. What? Stop it. No. That just makes me want to do it more. But anyway, Jamie, when you were
Starting point is 00:51:27 pissing your life away, we found a typo on the front here. It says a collection seven instrumental folk songs. And we think it should say a collection of seven instrumental folk songs. I'm good at word games.
Starting point is 00:51:43 Maybe they don't like prepositions. It makes me wonder what else is it they don't like prepositions. It makes me wonder, what else is it? Yeah, my prepositions are... No. This is Island House number six. We'll play that. Alright, should I play two? I'm gonna play two.
Starting point is 00:52:03 You're too woke for that joke, Mike. I am. Wait. I'm too what? all right should i play two i'm gonna play two you're too woke for that joke mike i am wait wake me up i'm too what i'm too wake i'm gonna play a new one on doom trip records all right no no no it's okay it's okay it's okay label run by kind of a jerk, but it's all right. Heejin Jang is the name of the artist. Me and the Glass Birds. 2023 release just came out. Or maybe it's not out yet, Jamie.
Starting point is 00:52:36 Maybe I'm as good as you. Maybe I'm also playing some unreleased shit. You know what? Maybe I am, though. Maybe I'm also playing some unreleased shit. No, maybe I am. No, thank you. some unreleased shit. No, maybe I am. Will you check on that, Jamie? Will you dial that up and find out
Starting point is 00:52:51 if this is out yet on Doomtrip Records? I sure can. Maybe give me a little bit of information here. Maybe pull your weight around here sometime. It's on the band camp. It's an audiovisual artist based in Seoul, South Korea. It's a tape that came out where it's on the band camp it's an audio visual artist based in seoul south korea it's a tape that came out where it's coming out no it came out march 3rd and there's only seven copies left only seven
Starting point is 00:53:12 copies and an addition of a hundred that's a big i have this one my god that means there's only seven copies left this is a follow-up they have another so how many have been sold so far well if you have a hundred you have one i have one of them and they seven and i'm gonna let you know something right now i didn't buy it i didn't buy it i didn't pay a single cent for it it was just sent to me i sat back opened my door and said's this? They're just giving it to me? I guess, okay, I'll take it. Mamma mia! What, just something from me? Wake me up!
Starting point is 00:53:51 I'll take it. There's nothing inside! No, there are tapes. I got free tapes. And this was one of them. Edition of 100. I have one. That makes it... They have other releases on labels like Muzan Editions, Ultraviolet light heavy mess so uh if you're trying to say they're not established artists uh you can kind of kiss my ass yeah and
Starting point is 00:54:12 you know because i i did the research and i had the receipts maddie mcpherson wrote a little review on the on the band camp page on the band camp page yeah you know how you can like do like a little little review little blurbs maddie mcpherson. But Maddie McPherson's supposed to be writing reviews for TabsOut.com. He just loves writing reviews. It says, guy who just re-listened to Twin Infinitives' voice. Getting real Royal Trucks vibes here. Favorite track, Our Brief Eternity. You gonna play Our Brief Eternity, Mike?
Starting point is 00:54:37 Nah, I'm gonna probably just play the first track. It's already rewound and everything. No, who knows what I'll play? You might not get Royal Trucks vibes. Who knows what I'll play? Wake me up! Who knows what I'll do? You don't know what I'll do.
Starting point is 00:54:48 Who could that be? Now, let's talk about fonts. Because we were talking about how bad the orange milk font was on that last one. Look when you open this up. Look at these fonts. This is what I'm talking about. Look how chunky they are.
Starting point is 00:55:04 Look at the big, chonk-ass phone. Are you going to play In the Egg? I might, but ask me what I played on that Morgan Garrett tape. Our Brief Eternity. Oh, that's on the B-side. It's 13 minutes and 22 seconds. That's too long. That's too long.
Starting point is 00:55:20 There's no possible way. We don't have the time. But if you ask me what I played on that Morgan Garrett tape, I have no clue. Okay. if you can't read it if you came and said mike the terrorists have taken your family read this read this orange milk j card i'd say like they have to die i can't do it from the other room you're oh but this jesus christ i see see this from across the room. Okay, so I'm going to play. That's going to be one of mine, and I get to do one more, right?
Starting point is 00:55:48 You always get to do one more. I'm playing six my next time. Go around. Wake me up! I'm going to play. Long drop. I don't know the sample board anymore so I gotta get by somehow guys
Starting point is 00:56:14 I like to hear what you think about drugs sensational and the dirty sample the spot rocker on the Han Solo Records I don't know how to say it. How do you think you say Han Solo records? Is it Han?
Starting point is 00:56:29 Is it Han? But do I try to like... Oh, do you try to say Han? Do I try to say Han? Like a true Star Warrior fan? No, it's Han. It's just Han Solo? Because it's Han apostrophe Solo.
Starting point is 00:56:41 I know what it is. Yeah, I bet you do. They sent me the goddamn tape, Joe. I feel the tapes. I've been holding the tapes for years. It's got the album on one side and the instrumental version on the B side. And look at that shell. Can you please just look at that shell?
Starting point is 00:57:00 Oh, the shell. Open the case. Oh, it's one of those. The all over printing ones. Oh, I like that. I love the all over print. I love. Oh, and it's a sparkle tape. You only see it, the shell. Open the case and look at... Oh, it's one of those. The all-over printing ones. Oh, I like that. I love the all-over print. I love... Oh, and it's a sparkle tape. You only see it on the sides.
Starting point is 00:57:10 Yeah, they do. It's got, like, glitter in it. You gotta respect the execution of, like, knowing... Keep the barking going. I want all the animals coming at me when I'm trying to explain this. No window. Windowless. Windowless tape. I'm gonna hold it to the light. There no no window windowless windowless tape i'm gonna hold
Starting point is 00:57:25 it to the light there's gonna there's no window how would they get yeah how would they get the plastic in there a lot of jabronis will take on this process of putting out a tape and i'll get real sweaty about this when i'm talking about it and they'll just say like oh no give me a green shell i don't know whatever color ink not thinking about the final fucking result of what they're going to get at the end but But like, I don't know who designed this. I don't know if Han Solo did it. I don't know if
Starting point is 00:57:51 Sensational did it. No, Ghetto Socks. Ghetto Socks? Yeah. Wake me up! I'm assuming they're Canadian to some degree. Everyone seems like they're Canadian involved in this project. But they knew exactly. Why is that? Because the label's from Canadaada i know dirty samples from canada okay sensational might be from canada i don't know what i'm getting at if you would let me speak please let me finish
Starting point is 00:58:15 they knew from the beginning like i'm I'm going to have the glitter shell. It's going to be the blue glitter. It's going to have this. How do you know they knew that? Because you don't just by accident have it coming out looking this good. Trust me. It does look good. It looks really good.
Starting point is 00:58:38 It's beautiful. It's an excellent execution. And it's a great tape. Han Solo number, It doesn't matter. It's a 2023. It's a new one. It's Hand. What did I say?
Starting point is 00:58:50 Hand. Hand. Maybe I'll... If you don't mind, I'll go into... Go into sleep mode. A little shrimp from the body. A gentleman's hand shake.
Starting point is 00:59:02 All right. Well, yeah. I'm going to play those two. And... A gentleman's handshake. All right. Well, yeah, I'm going to play those two. All right. Wake me up. Starting point is 01:18:50 Yeah, there's someone else that plays on it. There's someone else in there, right? On the J card. On the J card. Inside the J card, Jamie. Jamie, please. Yeah, Mike Horn. I'm sorry, Jamie. Mike Horn. I could do 20 minutes on that alone. Now, does he play any horns?
Starting point is 01:19:05 In this crazy... That's like John Beard doesn't have a beard. I could do 20 minutes on that alone. Now, does he play any horns? Oh, he better. In this crazy... That's like John Beard doesn't have a beard. Jesus Christ, your name's Mike Horn. You play a horn? No, it's all strings. All strings. Oh, geez.
Starting point is 01:19:13 String man. Well, I know. You got Mike String. What's he blowing on a horn? Come on. You're flat. That was fun. A lot of good stuff.
Starting point is 01:19:22 Yeah, a lot of good stuff there. I like the lime green shell on that island that whole island house vibe it's so relaxing give me some relaxing make me feel like i'm at the beach with some relaxing beach sounds jamie okay um like i got you yeah yeah now all that was made me feel yeah this is what the beach is like oh look at that wave oh and a bird flying by it's sunset oh it's sunset now look at the sunset there's a whale oh look at the whale we're going whaling wake me up i also liked how um in the in the list of uh hand me just hand me the tape hand me the tape. Starting point is 01:20:08 This is the Island House tape. Acoustic guitar, organ, harmonica, field recording. Just one. Not field recordings. It's just one. No, they only used it once, and it was just one. And there was no overdubs. No overdubs.
Starting point is 01:20:24 Mix and artwork. Wow, you list that. Okay, yeah, put it all together. recordings it's just one once and it was just one and there's no overdubs no overdubs mix and artwork wow you list that okay yeah put it all together mix and artwork all right what was another tape we were listening to really fast a long time ago oh it's the birthday song by the beatles oh that was so good i still remember that wow a true fan oh Oh, it was insane, right? Starting point is 01:20:49 Yeah, I'd like to play the rest. All right, Joe B. True fan. Joe B., you did some very scary stuff today. I'm really hoping that... This isn't really scary. You're not doing any problematic stuff, are you? No, no. some very scary stuff today. I'm really hoping that... This isn't really scary. You're not doing any problematic stuff, are you? No, no, I love problematic stuff.
Starting point is 01:21:09 I mean, you're a self-proclaimed edgelord. I am an edgelord. I still gotta look that up. Cheekus. Something natural. Cheekus. Something natural. Cheekus.
Starting point is 01:21:18 All naturals, but Cheekus. This one might be... This is the Russian one, though, so this one might be problematic. There's some Russian letters on it Wait a minute, Jamie, didn't you bring a tape from someone from Ukraine? Is it the Cyrillic alphabet? It's the Cyrillic alphabet Well now I have to play it
Starting point is 01:21:33 Is this Cyrillic? It doesn't have any numbers I was going to cut it this week We've got to have a face-off now It's not all in that language There are some english time tunnel progressive class and then cock what was that last one okay yeah it's like klingon um this is on crash symbols you haven't said that nice people i didn't i said it 20 times
Starting point is 01:22:00 yeah they did actually crash symbols designed our uh liz uh from crash symbols designed our new logo yeah the dragon which probably a lot of you haven't been able to see because jamie's uh dumbass cannot figure out how if that be if anyone jamie please if anyone knows because jamie for some reason cannot figure out how to do it if anyone knows how to update our picture in the RSS feed for our podcast. For Stitcher and all those sites.
Starting point is 01:22:32 Will you just tell us how to do it? I don't know how to do it and Jamie obviously doesn't know how to do it. ChatGPT gave me a bum answer. Not good. Did you get ChatGPT 4 or are you still using 3.5? I don't know. Maybe I gotta ask 4.. Yeah, wake me up, Jamie. All right. Joby, this cassette,
Starting point is 01:22:48 it's a sold-out cassette from 2021. Yep. Galena Ozeron. Was that somebody's stomach? That was my throat. I cut those out, so don't bring... Remember when Dave isolated it a long time ago? I do remember that. And it was just like...
Starting point is 01:23:03 Stop bringing up the classics. Let's see if Dave can email me that. What about Galena? This was another edition of 150. Galena's kind of scary. What are you talking about? What's Galena? That's the artist.
Starting point is 01:23:18 You said... Oh, what? She kisses Galena Azaron. I said, this is Galena Azaron. And you said, they're kind of scary? Yeah, they're kind of scary. Look at her. Oh, let me see.
Starting point is 01:23:27 Leather jacket? That's not the artist, is it? Yeah. Let me see. Looks kind of punk, like 70s punk. But it is Russia, so they just got that. Oh, yeah. She's wearing American blue jeans and some leather.
Starting point is 01:23:41 No, this looks like... Oh, this... There's fire, too. This might be the tight tightest design j card i've ever seen on crash symbols ever that's bold with the you're a bold man you make the borders on all these images and like this like chain link type thing going down the the back oh this is so fucking tight who designed this uh? Designed by Sean Reed. Is that the Sean Reed
Starting point is 01:24:08 from like Night People and Raccoon? Is that who that is? You're going back too far for me. You've gone too far. Okay. Well, I'm excited to hear this. This is Chickas Tape.
Starting point is 01:24:23 Something natural on Crash Symbols. One from 2021. Now, Jamie. Sold out. Put this on Discogs, too, Jamie. You want to sell this one, too? Put this one on. I want five for that.
Starting point is 01:24:32 I've got to remember to take that other one down. You want to see if anybody's bought it? Yeah. I'm going to say ten. I want ten for it. Free shipping. Nobody's purchased it yet. Oh.
Starting point is 01:24:43 Nobody's bought it yet. Give it a little bit. You want me to buy it real quick yeah 350 free shipping okay so jamie he played this russian one when are you going to play well i was going to play this ukrainian tape but it really is it's so good that i want to front load it on next episode and i want to i want to i want to play what the fuck does that mean it means like played in the beginning it's like when people like i get it no we get what we stack no no no no we get what you mean we just don't understand why you're talking about it all right you want to front i was planning on cutting it from this episode because i want to play a tape that's not as good not as exciting not as interesting uh you don't want to go up against Russia But it's got a fun story It's got a fun story?
Starting point is 01:25:26 Oh, I like fun stories So, I was out in San Francisco In California On Haight-Ashbury Peace I went into a little store Called Amoeba Records And I was going through their
Starting point is 01:25:42 Experimental music section Which, by the way, they have a huge aisle just for experimental music. I was in heaven. San Francisco, baby. Not a lot of tapes. A lot of the tapes were like $15. I found a cheap tape. $5 tape. What is this tape with the black spine?
Starting point is 01:25:58 $5. Look who put it out. Let me see this. Our very own Mike Haley put this out in 2008 see this our very own our very own mike haley put it put this out in 2008 what 905 number 44 can you get this on discogs uh no last i checked sell that one too last i checked um and so this is swamp horse on force classic 95 there's nothing no information no there's information it's blue on black it's kind of hard to read but you can say it i listened to a little bit of it this morning it's's good, actually. It's not bad, like I said.
Starting point is 01:26:27 It's the duo of Morgan Rankin and Josh Lay. They both fell off the face of the earth. There's no typing on this, is there? No, it's just two horsies on the cover. Two swamp horsies. I didn't tell you this, Mike. When I was checking out, I bought all CDs, and this was the only tape I bought. The girl was checking me out, and then she got the tape and she like showed it to her friend like real quick she showed it to
Starting point is 01:26:48 her friend and they both kind of laughed and then she rung it up and then went on with their business and i have no idea why you want to call you want to call them up right now maybe they have an inside joke about swamps or horses or horses let's call them up right what where were you at you were at the one and um you think they're open yet i don don't think they're open yet. Let's give them a call. It'll be 8.50 in the morning. What time do you think they open at 9? On Sunday? On Sunday in San Francisco? 12. Okay. On me of a record, San Francisco.
Starting point is 01:27:15 What's their time? It's on Haight Street. We know you went to Haight. We know you went to Haight Street. Peace, brother. My nephew got a real kick out of that name. Haight Street. Haight Street? They open at 11. We'll call them later. We'll call them later.
Starting point is 01:27:27 We'll top load that next time. What are you going to ask them? I'm going to front load that episode. Oh, yeah, you guys got the new Swamp Horse tape? I'm going to say, my associate bought a cassette tape from you. It was laughed at. And the worker there, who's supposed to be serving them, the customer, supposed to be serving the customer, who's always right, laughed at him. And I him and i want to know why they left him yeah is it funny because i bought a tape
Starting point is 01:27:49 is that so funny is that funny to you now jamie you might not know this when did this tape come out it said 2008 2008 so it took me like so many years to get this tape all the way from delaware to california and you brought it back you brought back. Why did you bring it back? The carbon footprint on this tape is enormous. Oh, yeah. Save the whales, Mike. I know. Well, all I wanted was for one of my tapes that I got to make it all the way to California. To Amoeba.
Starting point is 01:28:16 So prestigious. To Amoeba. You're next to Aaron Dilloway and Wolf Eyes and Lamont Young. And then you brought it back to here, to Delaware, just to live with you? Yes, now it's going to sit on my shelf. Keep it here. That's why they were laughing. You know how hard Mike worked to get this here?
Starting point is 01:28:34 Now he's going to bring it back. Now you said that you've been to that store before. Did you sell it to that store? I left it there. Yeah, you left it there. Yeah, I left it there. Okay, now it's back. Prank.
Starting point is 01:28:47 What a prank. Yeah, okay, well, whatever well you want to play this one and the other one are you still thinking about um front load i'm gonna front load it yeah all right so he's retreating and he's letting so russia is gonna you're letting russia win jamie i can't believe they may have won the battle but we're gonna win the war oh my goodness gracious this is a proverbial snake island at this table and you've just moved in and just taken it. Jesus Christ. Okay, well I'm going to end this with a Hold on, let me get, this is a big one.
Starting point is 01:29:14 Hold on, let me grab this tape real quick. This is going to It looks very heavy. You have a forklift there? You got your license? Yeah, I'm going to backload this one. I had to get Nobody's going to hear it. This is
Starting point is 01:29:31 FTAM number 100. It's a triple cassette. Comes in the triple high Noroco case. Big ass chonky cover. Just says FTAM 100. That's all it says, so you know what it is. It's got the three tapes.
Starting point is 01:29:46 Are you sure? I'm absolutely positive. Are you sure? Yes, because I double-checked, because I went online and I double-checked. It is a bunch of tracks. Is it a comp, or is it? Oh, it's a comp. It's a collection.
Starting point is 01:30:01 Did I not say that? You didn't. I don't even know what F-T-A-M is. Oh, my. Oh. I know what it is. It's a collection. Did I not say that? You didn't. I don't even know what FTAM is. Oh, my. Oh. Oh. I know what it is. Oh, come on.
Starting point is 01:30:08 Oh, it's a label run by Peter J. Woods out of Milwaukee. Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Did he move out of the country, though? He did. I think he got scared. Yeah. And he moved somewhere else. I don't know where.
Starting point is 01:30:20 It does not matter. Yeah. It's kind of a retrospective, if you will. You don't like this country? I'll help you pack. Yeah, I'll help know where. It does not matter. Yeah. It's kind of a retrospective, if you will. You don't like this country? I'll help you pack. Yeah, I'll help you pack. I'll help you pack all your contact mics and effects pedals. You can get the hell out of here, pal.
Starting point is 01:30:36 Rattle off some of the names you see inside there, Joe B. Oh, I don't know. I don't recognize a lot. Kingston Family Singers. We played that, right? Yeah, Lucky Bone. Ice Vault. Get some scary sounds in the background jamie jesus god of gaps partly zombish climax denial i mean i know that one i've done that before
Starting point is 01:30:57 because you're an edge lord yeah because i'm an edge lord i gotta odd person i know odd person right we played oh hell yeah we played cool person too same uh yeah uh andrew weathers uh david collins uh moth bucket gripping stuff gripping stuff um i will say one thing about this that you go all out with the release like it's your 100th release right it's like a big old birthday that you go all out with the release. I guess it's your 100th release, right? It's like a big old birthday. Yeah, more bizarro. You get all excited.
Starting point is 01:31:29 Keep listening to why I'm saying this, by the way. Don't let me interrupt you. Wake me up. Wake me up. Wake me up. Wake me up. Wake me up. You get all excited for this.
Starting point is 01:31:38 Save me. This 100th release, right? You get all these tracks. Toilet bowl cake. You get all this stuff together Toilet bowl cake. You get all this stuff together. Come on, man. And you do this big boy packaging.
Starting point is 01:31:55 You do all this stuff. And then look at the tapes on the B-side. They're blank. There's no imprinting on the B-side of the tapes. Oh, wow. Why do no... Why? Because they spent all their money on this hard window. Oh, they are hard windows.
Starting point is 01:32:10 That's impressive. I'm just saying, put some imprinting on the B side. Even if it's just their little logo, they have their little logo. The triangle. Or the diamond. Excuse me, I know what shapes are. What's the new No Ret logo, by the way? like their little logo they had their little logo the triangle yeah or the diamond excuse me i know what shapes are what's the new no rent logo by the way because it looks kind of similar to that one
Starting point is 01:32:29 doesn't it well all of these shady looking labels all have the pseudo white supremacist type stuff that always looks like neo don't do my peter like that yeah oh this is really shady black and red yeah black and red and geometric it's like it geometric. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it. I'm just saying... Yeah, if this was a pin on my suit. Yeah, exactly. Or my armband. I'm not saying...
Starting point is 01:32:55 This would be like if on Star Trek they landed on a planet that was a totalitarian government. This would be the symbol. Yeah, exactly. So I'm not saying that you're bad i'm just saying when big tapestries yeah when the comparisons start rolling in don't be like what what but i added an extra line to that swastika why would you make that's not what it means I'm taking it back
Starting point is 01:33:25 yeah taking it back but put like put this little diamond on the B side if you put the diamond on the B side of the tape Jamie would have
Starting point is 01:33:34 busted for the first time and I would not deny that climax I can't believe I couldn't see wake me up but uh yeah you look on everything the cut everything about this thing it's beautiful except the b side of the tapes there's nothing nice um i'm gonna play i was
Starting point is 01:33:54 listening through all this i forced my family uh about three nights in a row at dinner to listen to this thing i know they did not doing this it was not a week. Do your hobby on your own time. I only have so much time to carve out for these things. But I found something that I really liked. Make a nice pasta. We're going to listen to a little Climax denial. Yeah. I got some black bean and kale soup.
Starting point is 01:34:18 We're going to put on Nummy. And then Partly Zombish. And then God of Gaps. The track's called Hanna-Barbera Cartoon Homogenization Radio Edit. And who's that by? It's by Dan of Earth. Oh.
Starting point is 01:34:37 It's the radio edit. It's a sorry to nasty MFs who want the gross version. Come on, man. That's why we're on the internet. We can do whatever we want. This is Dan of Earth. I want to play Unrated.
Starting point is 01:34:47 Member of the Phone Nill Trio with Peter J. Woods. Somehow connected to a label called, like, Colbeck Labs or something like that. But it's just, like, it's Hanna-Barbera sounds that, like, just reach a point. Yeah. Like that. like it's hannah barbara sounds that like just reach a point yeah like that so it's we're kind of gonna bookend the show like with these sounds we're gonna back load we're gonna back i'm gonna front end back load oh let me let me so. Oh, you played it three times. I'm a bad boy.
Starting point is 01:35:27 I'm a bad boy. Does anyone else have any news? News? Would you news now? I was news at the end. I wasn't right after news. Does anyone have any tape news? Jamie, what's the tape?
