Feeling fine What is this you're playing, Jamie? episode number 209 209 feeling fine
what is this you're playing
Jamie
some weird music
that Joe likes
he sent it to me
I sent this to both of you
I guess you don't
pay attention to my
text
oh this is the thing
you sent to me
yeah I listen to that
I listen to that
the one I told you to
listen to with headphones
I read all of your clippings
oh good thank you
don't worry about it
actually that's
it's funny I should bring that up
what a good transition it was a good transition your clippings. Oh, good. Thank you. Don't worry about it. Actually, it's funny I should bring that up. What a good transition.
It was a good transition.
Your clippings.
Yeah.
Is this a good time to bring up this goddang book we got right here?
This is a good time to bring up the book and our fan, what should we call it, our work
that a fan is doing.
Oh, yeah.
Because I think they go into each other.
They do go into each other.
As far as our philosophy and uh our ideas oh well the philosophy that that brings us to this and it's awful music
i just want to say so another because have we entered into academia we've entered into
unfortunately we have entered into academia we are yeah i mean we've had PhDs on the show before
Oh we have
We've been in print in a physical book before
But this is a hardback
I think there's been like two or three books
That has featured
Yeah the Mark Masters book
But was it hardback
Hardback?
The books were?
I thought they were softback Do when they call it softback maybe when it's just called paperback
right yeah paperback but isn't a hard hardback still paper all right you know that beatle song
a softback writer softback writer all right so what do you got you got a book in your hand that
just got you just got why don't they call it a softback?
Why are we doing that?
Okay, hold on.
I don't want to get too off the old trail here.
But a tape that comes in a Noroco case, a standard plastic one, is a hardback.
They have softshells, right?
The paper, the soft ones. Are you a soft shell taco guy or a hard shell taco guy?
Or a double, like a double, or the one like from Taco Bell where it's both.
This book, Tomorrow on Cassette, just came out.
And I just want to say, if you are writing a book about cassettes,
and you're going to talk to Tabs out, you're going to get some of our musings.
What kind of music gets you up why not mention joe b every once in a while well just once just once i mean i've been here i i don't know if we did percent i'm not a numbers guy that's
jamie's jamie can you find the stats on the percentage of episodes that i've been on i'll
have to run the numbers later because i, I mean, it's pretty high.
Oh, yeah.
Like 80% in the 80s.
I would say a little higher.
I would say a B+.
Yeah, you never get mentioned.
This book, it talks about me, of course.
It mentions Dave Doyen, who used to be on the show,
I guess at the time of the interview,
which was done in 2018 or so 2017 something like that um but no it doesn't mention joe b at all i do want
who wrote this book i don't think we said benjamin doyster benjamin doyster benjamin
doyster and apparently we did like a actually you know i won't say that yet. Thank you, Ben. I'll have... One more, Jamie.
Thank you so much, Ben.
Thank you so much, Ben.
Here, Jamie, I'm going to pass this book to you.
And Jamie, I would like you to hold it and actually look at it.
Don't just pass it off.
I want you to read where it's starting from where I'm pointing it.
Okay.
All right.
Does he need reverb?
He needs a little bit of bedding music, a little reverb.
Like soft piano?
Yeah, like soft piano.
Like a softback piano.
A softback piano.
Why are we making softback pianos?
A softback piano.
How'd you do that?
How'd you do that so quick?
That he can do.
All right.
This is this close.
Whoa.
Whoa.
I said put on.
This is like Dracula, but it's all right.
Go ahead.
Yeah, this is like Dracula, James.
Sometimes, however, my academic standings did overshadow my efforts improving myself
as a trustworthy correspondent.
This was especially the case in an interview I did with the Tabs Out Cassette podcast.
After the host had agreed to answer my questions.
Oh, this. Hold on. What? You're in the middle of something jamie you're at work you're at work what do you mean you tell your boss is this the person i remember i can't hear
anything by the way did you are you muting us did you really i can't hear me either well kind of
it's something's something's all you did
something okay if everything's fine go ahead go um i remember one day joe might have been when you
weren't on doing the show for those few months but i think one one morning me and mike filled
out some kind of questionnaire was that for this book yeah okay yeah i went back and listened i
went back and listened to the uh go ahead and read it. Put the music back on. We did it on an episode, though.
Yeah, I know.
If you kept reading...
Oh, my God.
Oh, jeez.
Okay.
I'm going to spank his little ass.
After the host had agreed to answer my questions,
they got back to me.
The reverb's not enough.
Where were we?
Start from the beginning. I was just watching Princess Bride the other day, Where were we? You know
Start from the beginning
I was just watching
Princess Bride the other day
Uh huh
And this is like the scene
Where Fred Savage
Interrupts the movie
To talk to the grandpa
Yeah
No that's actually
Pretty interesting
That is
Jamie
Oh boy
After the host had agreed
To answer my questions
They got back to me
With the idea To feature their answers in a dedicated episode,
a Tabs Out special that in the podcast's typical manner
ended up with the tongue-in-cheek name Real Genius.
Tabs Out 2019.
I've got to turn the effects off.
The episode illustrates that my questions were received lukewarm
and viewed from the perspective of DIY actors versus academics, a position that feeds into the podcast role within Delaware's DIY music scene.
See chapter seven.
It was therefore necessary to critically contextualize my previous experience as a cassette user with my standing as an academic investigator, a that con concommittantly has shaped the
theoretical dimension of this book huh huh take that put that in your pipe and smoke it yeah but
just mention joe b and also what does a diy actor mean it's that was almost a dig that almost i'm
not acting i don't think that's no it's. No, it's like somebody that participates in something. Oh, okay.
All right.
Like bad actors.
Yeah.
Again, you're calling me bad.
That's negative.
That's true, yeah.
That's softback actors.
You're just bringing all this negative energy.
All right.
Should we play some tapes, some cassette tapes?
Yeah.
Or are we off that now?
Are we going to mention the new Instagram account?
Let's do that at the next block.
Okay.
Because that ties in with this.
Okay.
It ties in with that.
I guess it does. let's do that at the next block okay and that ties in with this okay it ties in with that i guess as far as uh us being recognized our work being recognized by a third party
jamie keep playing that keep rolling rolling one again that one makes me laugh
what come on it makes me laugh
all right all right all right who i want to play a tape first stop what do you got joe b It makes me laugh. All right, Jamie, stop.
All right.
I want to play a tape first.
Jamie, stop.
What do you got, Joby?
Well, mine are all going to be topical, I guess.
Oh, shit.
Like something you put on a rash?
No, just a topical from...
Oh, I put ice on my rashes, too.
You do?
Yeah.
And he's got a lot of them.
With inflammation.
You get a lot of rashes you seem
like you might get a rashy type guy i got poison ivy earlier this year you did i had to get a
steroid for that a steroid a cream right no shot no um a pill or a pill yeah you remember he was
like he was all the time like he was covered with a rash like that was when my balls got really
small remember yeah that's what he was like megan me Megan told me that when we were having oysters
One night
Jamie was like I just want to let you know that
These are like this because of the steroids
Alright guy
Alright I'm going to play
This Jerome Parker Wells tape
Jerome Parker
Total Vortex and we just saw
Jamie you performed with him
I did it was a very good performance.
Him and another Ben.
Oh, wait, his name's not Ben.
Yeah.
Yes.
Him and Ben Dumbled from...
Ephemeral.
Ephemeral.
That's what this tape is on.
Yes.
Not Ephemeral.
Ephemeral.
Were they on a bit of a tour?
They were on a tour together.
A bit of a tour.
I think they had just started in Delaware.
I think they were on a little run
What a way to kick it off
Kenny played with you?
Yeah, Ken Glandon
Senior citizen
Respect
He called himself a senior citizen the other day
He can do it
So Jerome played a set
Ben played a set
And then you guys did a collaboration set
together it was very good yeah i really liked his direction that he gave you guys with his hand
movements i didn't notice you didn't notice people were directing you well he would be like he would
be like ready to bring it down yeah yeah i was definitely looking at him for cues he was giving
cues because i you know he i felt like out of anybody he he's played
with sonny shirak he's played with eugene chadbourne he's an academic and that's why i'm
playing this tape this ties into the book and how we've entered into the field of academia i don't
take cues and music from other men i find it to be beta to do that kind of shit that's why they're
constantly kicking me out of orchestras because i'm looking at who's the guy who's the guy with
the sticks in the front the maestro don't tell me what to do i'm playing at whatever speed i want to play okay let me see this
all right tonal vortex this tape is very good i listened to this before i blow that solid
performance oh i don't know what this is i didn't even open this here oh there's a scroll inside
there's a scroll inside is that a joint it's not
there's a little piece of string holding it. That's a softback joint.
Let's light that up.
Double cassette, by the way.
Oh, it's the download code.
The download code.
Okay, the joint is the download code.
The joint's the download code.
And there's a little white piece of paper that's rolled up with a thin black string.
This is a double tape in one of the poly cases, right?
I love the... There's the red and double tape in one of the poly cases, right? I love the
there's the red and blue tape in here
and you take one out to reveal a picture
of him below playing the bass.
Nice.
He slaps the bass. I don't think I said that.
When did this come out? I don't know.
It's 51.
Ephemeral number 51.
It says on the back,
let this album wash over you slowly unraveling its mysteries. Alright, Ephemeral No. 51. It says on the back, Let this album wash over you,
slowly unraveling its mysteries.
All right, I'll do that.
That's what life's all about.
All right, Jamie, what are you playing
after that Tonal Vortex tape?
Well, you know, I was going to start
with a tape from 2025,
but now that we're on this Jerome Parker Wells kick,
I want to play a tape from Ephemeral
that I bought from ben at the show
ephemeral ephemeral and it was interesting right isn't that where we he landed and corrected when
we interviewed him he corrected us and said it was ephemeral but at the show he was calling it
fmr so i don't know uh maybe we changed his mind he's having a fucking laugh at our expense yeah
huh he's having a fucking laugh tell me he listens to every episode of this show so hey bet hey hey hey thanks for your support ben gave me this tape it's hilarious it's
a uh it's a conceptual tape it's called juilliard audition beat tape oh actually jamie then i want
to mention these zines but go ahead yeah oh yeah right so um yeah i'll pass this around it looks
what's it called julia i really like his work because it's tongue-in-cheek.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So this is very much in line with the brand of FMRL.
Yeah.
Is this, like, written on the J card with the Sharpie, or is this photocopied?
I'm going to hate it.
I'm going to hate it.
Is all this handwriting photocopied onto the...
I think it's pro-dubbed.
But the J card.
The J card.
Let me see it. This is like a printed J card.
Here, you look.
But anyway, so Ben said what he did for this is
he found a bunch of auditions
for Juilliard Music School
on YouTube and mashed it up
all together and made a beat tape out of it.
Which side are you going to play? Because I'm kind of more
interested in the drama side, the drama program
on side two. We could do that. I was
planning on just playing side A but side a is like more orchestral um and there's like marimbas and
cellos and stuff like that okay let's do that but yeah i did listen to some of side b and and
yeah can i borrow this okay yeah you want to check it out you're gonna make some beats with it no i
just want to listen to it i want to take someone else's work jamie's got like a library card you
have to sign that's fine check it out i'll get i put my i'll put my card uh i'll open a tab yeah sorry i want to start a tab i want
to start a tab all right so these are just it's just the youtube videos all mish mush together
yeah yeah so it's like if you think about like some of the music that he did recently with like
the movements for stop box and stuff like that like it's kind of like these intellectual type ideas but done in a
tongue tongue-in-cheek manner i like the good use of the band-aid oh that little like the inside yeah
and joe doesn't usually like the band so that's an extreme compliment no this is uh compliment
was like oh that's that was like the gg allen of compliments that's my new project name extreme
compliment yeah what's going on what are these zines that you have?
Oh, so Ben gave these to you to give to me, right, Jamie?
Yeah, I think you had left.
I had left, yeah.
And so, yeah, Ben knew that you were our dungeon synth expert.
Right.
Out of the crew.
And also Dungeons and Dragons in general.
Right.
Role playing.
I haven't really looked at these yet, Mike.
I'll pass one on to you.
Okay.
Maybe two.
But I just want to say, going back to to a previous episode now that we're getting into this kind of field jamie have you figured out what a terrain is what a role-playing game terrain is
is it can you come up with any examples yet it's been a month is it the thing that i helped you
move the other day like the like styrofoam thing yeah but what is one example of a terrain if you
know and we're to make stuff today,
I'd love to have a craft day one day.
What would you,
I want you to make a piece of terrain,
and I have all the stuff.
What are you going to make?
What are you making?
Maybe like a hill with some terraces on the hill.
No, no, not in.
No, that's it.
No, no, it's not.
No.
That's it.
No, it's not.
No, terraced hill, that's perfect. No. That's such a good project to start, Jamie. it's not. No, no, it's not. No, Terrace Hill, that's perfect.
That's such a good project to start, Jamie.
He's still wrong.
No, he's 100% right.
We're on the right wavelength, finally.
So these are Dungeons & Dragons real adventures.
I have Expedition to Barrier Peaks.
I have Isle of Dread.
I don't think I have Beyond the Crystal Cave.
And it says,
Music Supplement P3 Beyond the Crystal Cave by crystal cave by synth bard adventurous music for all ages
oh wow published in 1983 graham morris tom kirby and dave j brown's ambitious beyond the crystal
cave paved new ground for adventure modules by privileging exploration problem solving and
dialogue over combat it challenged dungeon masters confused players and expanded the possibilities of
what plain dungeons and Dragons might be.
Its fantastical locations captured the imagination, while its underlying love story stirs emotions.
Consisting of three CDs and 35 unique tracks, and featuring original art by Dominique Rose,
the musical supplement provides a soundtrack to Beyond the Crystal Cave,
breathing a new sense of magic and wonder into this seminal adventure.
So, there's a download code on the inside, i believe is three cds worth of music to listen to if i ran
this adventure for you guys that's incredible and then inside are some notes cd1 the crystal cave
the first and then there's a whole there's there's some i mean very good pros in here
and these books are so nice this is like a very nice cover style and what i like
it seems like he got a new uh you know new updated art like these aren't from the adventure this
dominique who did i say did the art dominique rose did some new illustrations wow i'm very impressed
um yeah ephemeral fmr i don't know how you say it but it's um it slaps it slaps it's constantly
impressive okay so uh yeah well
now i don't i didn't plan on playing anything like to the on this label or related am i that's okay
that's okay can i still hang out with you guys i'm here for it i have a funny one should i do a
funny do a funny one yeah yeah i mean i wouldn't think that's in line with uh with the line the The line that we walk as artists.
Whoa.
I'm going to play.
Who's that?
What is this tape?
Toxic Chicken.
The tape is called Buff on Ingrown Records.
It's Ingrown number 59.
It came out recently.
The cover is, it's just two eyeballs and the beak and it makes a little and the background's all yellow and it makes a little cartoon chicken it's so cute it's very cute
durable and it's got the yellow yellow tinted shell the yellow back the hardback yellow back
naroko case so just the back flap of it is yellow and the front is still clear
wow so you can see the yellow of the chicken um and this is the little things you know
this is just fun music sometimes you just need to like hear something that's just
sometimes you just need to hear something that's bright and like sprinkled like Parmesan.
Yeah.
Oh, Parmesan Reggiano?
No, the fake kind.
Parmesan Reggiano.
Oh, Parmesan Reggiano.
Oof, Marone.
Look at this one over here.
It's called Buff, if I haven't explained, said that yet.
How you doing?
On ingrown.
On ingrown.
So the music sounds like what the cover of that tape looks like
Can you pass it to me? I'd like to touch it
It's like bubbly and
Cheery and just fun
How life should be, Jamie
Oh yeah
This chicken on the back is
Sipping on a little
Little martini
Sipping on a little something
With a long straw
Just kicking back
Families in the background
It's a barbecue man
You're having a good time
So I think I fit in
You always fit in
Alright let's play these three. I'm going to go ahead and do that. Thank you. so Thank you. I'm going to go ahead and do that. Thank you. © transcriptF-WATCH TV 2021 © BF-WATCH TV 2021 Thank you. Thank you. Take this with a grain of salt Let it take the pain away

My name is Joe B
That's J
It's J
O E
Capital B
Period
Period
Dot com
Sometimes I put an X
In front of each
You know X
Joe B
X
Yeah I'm not straight edge Like a Gore X Yeah, like a Goregrind band
Like a Goregrind band
But I'm still straight edge hardcore
Like a Goregrind band?
That's your reference for the X's?
I just went with it because Jamie doesn't understand
You know, straight edge hardcore
Goregrind wouldn't have X's in the front
If you're not now, you're never where, Jamie
What did we play?
I can show you an example right now
What did we play?
What did we play?
Jerome
Parker
Wells
Julliard Total Vortex Julliard Audition Beat Tape right now what did we play what do we play jerome parker wells total vortex total vortex
juilliard audition beat tape two strips of bacon on fmr and toxic chicken toxic chicken grown
very good block guys yeah the toxic chicken uh i mean i wouldn't say it sounds like wean but it
definitely scratches that kind of itch for me you said that i said that could probably be like an off like a on the double cd of pure guava with the demos that didn't
make it regular dentist music as my daughter calls it so so you guys don't like my idea for
cottage cheese that dave said that was his idea that's my idea for spicy cottage i think that's
a good idea i'm toying around with a uh spicy peanut butter idea a little spicy peanut butter i think that's like that's already like a thing in like
some uh cuisines correct no no i'm talking about you can get it on it's already made in a jar and
you get it they're putting it in a jar yeah yeah i mean yes it's in cuisines where they add peanut
butter and spices to a dish but i'm talking about a pure on the shelf spicy peanut butter peanut butter with
chili oil are you making like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with it or you i don't eat bread
so i know i'm sorry i'm sorry i'm either i feel so fucking stupid you don't need i'm gonna put it
on salary um salary you know what i've been doing i've been every year when it's time to do my taxes, I put spicy peanut butter on salary.
I give my W-2s, you know,
and I'll put peanut butter and I'll put little raisins on it.
And I'll put that on my salary.
No, no raisins.
Maybe some nuts.
No, that can still be ants on a log.
Why are you trying to reinvent the ants on a log?
I'm not trying to reinvent anything.
Spicy cottage cheese is called cottage cheese, and you eat it warm.
Okay, here we go.
Imagine-
I like it.
I don't really-
I asked you what color it was, and you never got back to me, because if it's still white,
I don't want to eat it.
But if it's tinted with the spice, and it's a little red-
Tinted cottage cheese.
Yeah.
Truth be told, I didn't get back to you, because it is white. Oh, so I don't like it. i didn't get back to you because it is white
oh so i don't like it i don't want anything to do with it we can't figure out how to make it not
white okay so i'll do my some experiments of my on my own no matter how i'm not eating dairy so
no i don't want to eat that you know no matter how much spices we add to it it just stays white
dominant genetics did you know this tape was a
Okay
Who wants to go next
I'm gonna go first again
You've been on a roll
So just go ahead
Keep going man
I brought one of the cassette tapes
Me and Larry
He's on salary
Right
Yeah we put him on salary
Larry's on salary
So I put a little bit of
He's like more than a friend
Peanut butter
And a few raisins on him
On Larry
We went to a show the other night
Unholy Altar
Oh my god that was so scary you guys took me to that
You went too I forgot
How could I forget
Well I was in the corner
I was underneath the table
I picked up their new full length
Oh my god you brought it home with you
I did I haven't even listened to it yet
Pretty excited
Veil of death shroud of night
Well you know what it was you know what happened Joby
It scratched that
I wasn't scared or anything like that
I was embarrassed
At the show and I left
Did you notice that
Well I did but I was too I was letting the music
Wash over me
Well could you tell why I was embarrassed and left
I don't I can't maybe Jamie this was so embarrassing me and the drummer from I was too. I was letting the music wash over me. Well, could you tell why I was embarrassed and left?
I don't... Maybe.
Jamie, this was so embarrassing.
Me and the drummer from...
What's the name of the band, Joe B?
Unholy Altar.
Me and the drummer from Unholy Altar were wearing the same outfit.
I know.
It was such a faux pas.
It was so embarrassing.
I had this leather thong on with my butt cheeks hanging out.
And I told you to wear it because no one else is going to be wearing anything like that.
I showed Joe Bean.
I was like, does the bullet belt go with this?
And he told me, yes, and I think it's going to look good.
Nobody's going to be there.
You're not going to see that.
You're going to see a lot of khaki there.
Yeah.
And I never knew their names before.
So now the inside has their names.
Vocals, Desecrator.
Guitars, Miserer.
Guitars, Evoke Dominator. Evoke dominator evoke no maybe it dominator damn
dominator bass cadaver and then is it with a k or a c c and then here's the here the drummer
mike i'm sorry lucifer's rage lucifer who stole your outfit too scary Didn't steal Didn't steal
But
Also
You didn't mention to me
Like
I would've thought
You would've said
Wow
Who wore it better
Who wore it better
But like
Since you didn't bring it up
And kind of ignored it
I'm just gonna assume
This is on
I think it's on
Liminal dread
Liminal of dread
I can't read the text
Liminal dread I think
Everybody's obsessed
With liminal things Liminal things Is the new A hallway A long hallway Is that liminal of dread i can't read the text liminal dread i think everybody's obsessed with liminal things liminal things a hallway a long hallway is that liminal yeah i don't know what liminal means
it's like the space that you're in until you get to the other place you leave a place and then
you're in this liminal space and then you're got to get to the other place oh um and then you just
take a picture of it you put it on the internet And you say this is a liminal space
There's a Twitter account called liminal spaces
And I used to follow it
Just daily pictures of dull places
They make you feel a little bit of dread
You know what makes me feel like that actually
And is long
Have you ever gone to the bathroom at the ReStore
No at the Habitat for Humanity store
Yeah dude go there
Okay I'll go after the show
It's liminal.
Is it long?
And it fills me with dread.
It's long?
And the toilets, it's just like, it's really long.
All the way at the end?
The toilets long?
No, just the, like, room.
So when someone knocks, you gotta be like,
I'm in!
Yeah!
It's very strange.
What's the reverb like?
I don't remember.
I was only there once, and I was filled with liminal dread.
Okay, so that's a good segue.
So I'm going to play this tape.
Jamie, I want you to play the A side, the intro, and the second track called Abaddon.
Abaddon.
Which I think has something to do with the color black.
Abaddon is like a demon in hell, right?
A dog.
Some something.
Not a dog.
Not a dog.
Some sort of demon.
That's Cerebus.
Cerebus is a dog. Who guards the gates of hell? Cere dog who guards the gates of hell cerebus okay so three-headed dog so abaddon is like abaddon
i'm gonna look abaddon up and when and jamie's gonna what's an abacus that's an early device
for math what's the point uh counting okay might i who invented that jam? The Sumerians?
Oh yeah I think so
Yeah
They're very ancient
I just got a Sumerian tattoo
The term Abaddon
Appears six times
In the Masoretic text
Of the Hebrew Bible
Oh sorry what's that?
Abaddon means destruction
Or a place of destruction
Or the realm of the dead
Okay
Oh my god
I was feeling black
And is accompanied by Sheol
Sheol is naked before him
Abaddon has no cover
And what
I'm sorry What is the origin again?
Of Abaddon?
The Hebrew. The Old Testament.
Oh, the Torah?
Yeah.
The Hebrew Bible. That's the same thing.
It's the same thing, right?
No, not the Torah. It's the Tanakh.
The Tanakh.
Alright, Jamie, what do you got?
I'm going to follow up
Joe's tape with
Ouroborian piss.
Jamie,
you son of a bitch.
Fucking go again.
Here we fucking go again.
Some Ohio noise.
Jamie, stop.
This is Split with Living Room,
another Ohio act.
What label?
Mistake, by the way.
It's on,
no, Bizarro Warrior,
a label I hadn't heard of before,
but they've been putting out
stuff on Bandcamp
and they've been putting out some tapes
They got fentanyl tap water
Oh man, a big problem
No, they've been giving that to the police
They have been
Disposal units, sorcerer, torturer, cadaver in drag
Grackler, landfill
So yeah
The Ouroborium piss side
Stop saying it
Piss
It's very short bursts of noise
followed by a little burst of silence.
Sounds like Jamie's sex life.
Aggressive.
The piece is called The Toilet That Breathed.
Speaking of toilets.
The Toilet That Breathed.
Jamie!
And they got other tracks on Bandcamp.
Dawn of Toilet and Climactic Toilet are two of their other works.
Joe doesn't like it.
Joe hates it.
No, I hate it too.
What is with you and all this piss stuff lately?
Is this label Bizarro Warrior, is it Matt Reese's label from Dayton, Ohio?
It's from Dayton.
It doesn't say Matt's name, but it's got to be, right?
Living Room's on it, and that's a collective that he's involved in.
Yeah.
I feel like, have we played anything on this label before? I feel like I have. but it's gotta be right. Living rooms on it. And that's a collective that he's involved in. Yeah. Um,
I feel like,
have we played anything on this label before?
I feel like I have.
Hmm.
I feel like it may have been a Matt Reese project.
That's what's making me think this classic,
classic layout.
You look at it right away and you go,
Oh,
if you weren't,
if it didn't give it away that the,
with the name,
with the piss name,
you know, right away from like the old man on the cover the dirty as hiney the dirty xeroxed cover he's got a skin
condition that you need to get looked at i think that's what's happening he is getting looked at
i think they're taking this picture for a textbook
talk about a softback
all right you got something light to come back from this yeah you have a chicken tape
why because is this going to be does this have any vocals on it yeah oh my god it does
what does he say i don't know keep going i like that whoa okay i'll play this um we got a batch of tapes on baltimore label
called um what are they called spleen coffin oh all right this is this is on brand thought i had
it written down here i don't oh there it is spleen coffin you can read that from that distance i can
yes wow uh is that bad eagle eye no i think that's good I can't see up close anymore
But I can see that
Liz Meredith
The tape is called Fourth
On Spleen Coffin
I don't really have much information about it
Jamie maybe you can find something
I like the textures here
Oh yeah Spleen Coffin always has this interesting
These abstract textures for their cover art
With just a lot of times like a
It may be a literal typewriter They may be busting out like this interesting, these abstract textures for their cover art with just a lot of times like a, it may
be a literal typewriter. They may be busting
out like an old typewriter to do
this. Nice paper too.
Like a brown craft paper. Yeah.
No, they got a look.
They know what they're doing over there
in Baltimore. That's
Spleen Coffin.
You find anything about Liz Meredith, Jamie?
I don't, but she has played i don't she
has played in newark a couple times no shit delaware yeah did you put on the show yeah she
played um at the at the bike shop the last bike shop and then she also played at a show at
international groove that i played on oh wait was that a lamplighter set uh oh wait no no it wasn't no no i'm sorry it wasn't a show it
was a baltimore set it had um what's the dude alex homans that's not the other alex the from mt5
alex uh who's in matt riley's band i forget his name but him and then tim the guy that does
spleen coffin and then liz meredith yep all played on that show yeah i was there i remember that now yeah well that explains drama yeah i must i must
have had a great time and enjoyed liz meredith the set because i enjoy this tape um i know on
the ingrown or ingrown listen on the spleen coffin website it did say something how this doesn't
feature her patented tape loops so patented yeah i guess she's got well maybe
doesn't use that exactly those words but i think she studied with fred frith really so academia
academia yep another theme episode and then also medical ingrown spleens piss piss the skin
condition here toilet that guy's ass on the cover of it wow did you this might be a good time to
bring up the Instagram account
Oh, the new Instagram account

On the fridge.
I might put it in a frame.
Like, you might open up Instagram on your phone and then put your phone on the fridge.
So, right now, there's only three posts.
There's only ten followers, so let's get this rolling.
Oh, yeah.
Can you please share this to your socials?
I want there to be 11 followers.
So.
This time tomorrow.
I reposted one this morning, and then the person messaged me.
And their name is Matt from Cincinnati.
And they are just a fan who are exploring an idea that they have,
which is playing some of our musings.
Can I play one now?
Yeah.
Which one would you like me to play?
He names them as well.
So we got...
Play the second one.
The second one.
Yeah, I was going to go with the second one too.
History of Guitars?
History of Guitars, yes.
Okay, yeah.
So these are all bits from old episodes of Tabs Out.
Yes.
Seth Graham, who runs that label
Currently selling the guitar on Facebook.com

What kind of guitar?
Black one
Oh black one, I like those
Old five string
They don't make them like that anymore
Play some Tom Petty
Or is it six string?
I make those strings as a guitar
Usually six.
Well, not six,
but in the 50s
they made them with five.
Ooh, well,
that was a different time.
In the 40s
they made them with four
and in the 30s
they made them with three.
They made guitars by,
yeah, whatever decade.
And then when the 70s came
they were like,
we can't make them any bigger.
You remember Dave?
But then in 2012, though,
they made the 12 string.
They made the 12 string guitar, yeah.
But it traveled back in time
so that's why
it's always been there.
They don't make them
like that anymore.
That was back when
men were men.
When we would make steel.
I just said hard body.
Pretty serious.
We formed the steel
into a car.
And now,
look at Detroit.
Back in my day,
a guitar wasn't nothing
but a wooden plank
with a fishing line
on a nail.
I remember that.
I remember that.
You used to make
a pick out of mud
and wait for it to harden.
Wait for it to harden.
To put it in the oven while your mom was making dinner.
Oven?
Whoa, rich boy.
You had an oven?
Whoa.
Go back to your house.
That's funny.
Good work.
Thank you very much, Tabs Out Archive.

He was rehearsing.
I'm Jamie.
I'm Joe B.
Joe B.
Joe B.
Yeah, Joe B. Every once in a while, just say your name. Just was rehearsing. I'm Jamie. I'm Joby. Joby. Joby. Yeah, Joby.
Every once in a while, just say your name.
Like it's a drop.
Joby.
I've been on most of the episodes.
Like an audio watermark.
Joby.
No, like DJ Khaled.
Yeah.
Or Funkmaster Flex.
Someone make Joby a drop.
Yeah.
Like for his name.
That everyone's like.
J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-J-Joby.
We did it.
We did it, Joe.
Beat. Beat. But not that. Like something new that you make for Joe. Okay. That everyone's watching on Bizarro Warrior, and we had Liz Meredith on Spleen Coffin.
What's with the Spleen Coffin?
What's with the... Are they trying to have, like, a secure
password with their label name?
It's like a low, a little...
It's like a softback S, and then a hardback
PL, and then
little Es, and then... Hardbody. Security's important.
It's a hardbody.
Why are we calling... With the letters.
Okay, with the alphabet.
Why are we calling
the lowercase letters
soft bodies?
Soft letters?
Soft bodies.
Soft bodies.
And we'll call the
uppercase letters
hard bodies.
That makes sense to me.
The whole system
needs an upheaval.
The whole damn system
is corrupt.
We need the rehaul.
Math, language,
everything.
Jim.
Okay, I got a lot
to say about Jim.
I hate him.
I didn't think it was going to be that soft.
Because when you think about it, when a letter is small and then all of a sudden it's bigger,
it's hard.
It got hard.
It got hard.
There's literally no other way to say it than it got...
Listen, I'm not Jamie.
I'm not gross.
I'm not a pervert.
You start a sentence with a hard letter
But when you
Start a sentence
Don't ever start a sentence with a soft letter to me
Or if you're writing a proper noun
It gets hard
It's like who's dead
Yeah, it's like who's dead
You gotta be formal
Alright, last block
What do you got? I don't want to go first this time
I went first all the other times.
I have two,
so I can go first and last.
Oh.
Hmm.
Okay.
That would have been
a good opportunity
for a joke about Jamie's mom,
by the way.
What?
You have two,
so you went first and last.
And I was going to maybe say,
like, I did that
to Jamie's mom last night.
You went first and last. Yeah. I'll cut maybe say, like, I did that to Jamie's mom last night. You went first and last.
I'll cut that out, Jamie.
Don't worry about it.
He doesn't need to be saying that about your mom.
Sound of Error, live at Patchwork Seattle, 72724.
What is it?
Complacency.
The artist is called Sound of Error One Word.
Sound of Error One Word. Sound of Error.
And this is a live tape that was recorded
at a venue or something called
Patchworks. Also one word.
In Seattle, I'm assuming
Washington. In July
of last year. They got some stink-a-sizers
here. I think
here's the thing.
I see a lot
of stink-a-sizers. A lot of little holes on the modules and stuff like that. Yeah see a lot of stinkasizers, a lot of
little holes on the modules and stuff like that.
Yeah, a lot of plugs.
You're going to see a lot of power strips.
I feel like I read somewhere, and correct me if I'm wrong,
spank my ass. It's no big deal.
Do you guys know what Patchworks is?
I'll tell you in a second.
Is it like a Joann Fabrics?
Oh, like a chain?
I was thinking about getting one.
It's like a Michaels, right?
A franchise? A Hobby Lobby? No. You're like're like i need a pattern i want to go there and get a
pattern and make a scarf it's a music store and they sell modular gear there oh that makes a lot
more sense than washington it's in seattle oh that's where this was oh yeah look at the
fucking detective work over here they do do concerts there, too. Yeah.
They might be a bit of a DIY venue.
Oh, I love this one.
You were saying something about the stink-a-sizers.
I feel like I read something somewhere while doing my little work, my little research for this,
that they're maybe not playing the synthesizers live. Maybe it's like there were samples of it recorded or something that they're playing.
I can't remember.
I can't read this.
Jamie, find out for me.
Small purple text.
Find out for me, Jamie.
Come on.
All right.
You're playing that.
I'm playing that.
It's good.
Well, thank you for playing something good.
Not a problem.
You know, I wake up every morning and I just try my best.
Just don't waste my time. I wake up every morning And I just try my best Just don't waste my time
I wake up every morning
Time is fleeting
And just play something good
I wake up every morning
I give Jamie's mom
A little kiss on the cheek
And I try to do my best
The best way I can
I pick my tapes
I'll cut all this out Jamie
Don't worry
We're not going to do
Nasty like that
Okay
I'm trying You move on And pick your next tape I'm going to do Nancy like that okay um I'm trying I'm what you move on and
pick your next tape I'm gonna try to find out who sound of error is okay I got a little game
um for my tape oh I love games Joe's Joe's eyes just lit up yeah he sat up straight all right so
um the artist that I have is Bridges of Konigsberg are you guys familiar with this artist at all no
no I read that book though mike just said peter
woods but you know who else is in it no uh jeff fridger no robert koningberg no no there's two
other jeff fridger there's two other artists one of whom is christopher burns who played at the
new york bike project two nights ago oh yeah the guy that played second um i missed his set yeah so after the show
um christopher beginning sounded good yeah he was great all that show was awesome it was great all
three the first academic water world part two was the first artist that was that was my secretly
that was my favorite set of the night but then we had uh christopher burns and we had wait what
did you just say it's a secret secretly he went home and said nobody
tell anybody my favorite well it's not like after the show I'm gonna be like I loved all your sets
but out of all three of you honestly water world part two was my favorite it means a secret Jamie
do you think anything you do anything you like anything you keep inside that you don't tell
people is a secret is that what you think the secret is you're not hurting anyone's feelings
yeah well it was a great I thought that set was excellent, but Christopher Burns
pulled it out, and so did William Fields.
William Fields, great set.
So after the show,
Christopher Burns handed me
a stack of four cassette tapes, all Bridges
of Codingbirds tapes, and
he was aware of Tabs Out. I guess Peter
Woods told him about it. The word is getting out.
The word is getting out there. Did he see the book?
I'm not sure.
Did he say like, hey, man, I love Tabs Out.
Not sure who Joe B is.
Don't really care about you, Jamie, but love in the show.
In the philosophy.
Love the philosophy.
Yeah, yeah.
The musings.
Actually, he's more of a fan of that Instagram account, Tabs Out Ideas.
Oh, good.
Yeah.
Link or share and subscribe.
Yeah.
Hit that belly notification.
So the first game I want to play with you. So I got the four tapes here.
One of these tapes has been
played on the show already in 2018.
2018? Oh my god, that's so long ago.
I don't care to guess.
I don't like guessing games.
I'll say which labels... What episode number?
Episode 131.
I think I know. So one of them
is on Ford
GRE. Hold on. Was I on that episode?
You must have been
It must have been
Bulk of the series
Yeah
One's on Flag Day
One's on Orb
And one's on FTAM
I think we played
The moth bucket one
The moth bucket one?
I was going to say moth bucket as well
Oh my god
I got it wrong
So it's actually the one on the top of the stack
On Ford GRE
Mendacity? Mendacity I like this cover Yeah so Oh my god. I got it wrong. So it's actually the one on the top of the stack on 4GRE.
Mendacity?
Mendacity.
I like this cover.
Yeah, so.
Okay, I'm starting to remember this now.
Did we talk about how the artwork seemed like it was kind of like fascist looking?
It does look kind of fascist. Yeah, it looks like some sort of hippie fascist movement.
Yeah, let me see it.
Because it's like a, you know, I don't know what that symbol is.
It's kind of like a flower life, but it's not.
I think it's like a, you know, I don't know what that symbol is. It's kind of like a flower life, but it's not. I think it's very...
Red and black.
So I read what Bridges of Konigsberg, because they're Bridges of Konigsberg 2 on Discogs.
And I was like, that must mean something.
So I looked it up on Wikipedia.
Everything means something.
Everything.
Oh my God, Jamie.
I've been keeping this as a secret, but I'll tell you now.
Everything means something.
I secretly believe that.
That's a secret me and Joe B. have, is that everything means something.
So it's some kind of mathematical uh-huh um theory academic you
mean yeah it's academic i think you know got peter j woods dot phd oh doctor yeah and then
christopher burns and then david collins yeah fortifications that's what you're gonna play
i think i thought it was really i thought it'd be really funny to play the moth bucket side
after he gave me four tapes to play Mothbucket.
That would be a good burn.
But I am going to play that split only because it's the most recent of all of those tapes.
But it's still only from 2020.
But you're playing...
It's still super old.
You're playing his side?
We're playing the Bridges of Konigsberg side.
Or their sides.
And Bridges of Konigsberg is always all three of those people?
Yes, it is a trio.
Okay, so just so I'm clear, he gave you four tapes.
Oh, and there's eight sides. He's on seven on seven of them yeah i think we should play the eight
yeah that'd be funny yeah i think it'd be a good prank all right that sounds like a good block
yeah oh i get to go right and then i'm gonna play one more oh i forgot so you're playing the uh
bridges of uh all right jamie i'll play a game with you Okay let's do it This is a choosing game
I have two tapes left
But they're from the same artist
Oh I have a sample about math real quick
I love math
I've taken all the calculus courses from integral calculus
To differential calculus
As well as linear algebra
And statistics both normal and non-normal
That's your job
Non-normal statistics Left or job yeah that's my job non-normal statistics left
or right uh right you choose the right-handed path is that what you're saying to me yeah the
right-handed path the path of the angel the path of the angel all right the path of the angel took
us to degraved oh no premonition of black go back go back, he rolled the dice. No.
The first track is called Pariah of Death and Darkness.
Oh, no.
This tape is on grip of darkness.
And we had Abaddon here earlier, too.
Oh.
Me and Larry saw this band.
This is back to Larry, who's on salary for the show.
And this is like a death metal band.
And they were awesome.
Nice.
What are they called again?
Degraved.
I think they might be from Seattle.
Holy shit, Jamie, look up.
I think they're from Seattle.
Did they play at Patchworks?
No, they played at the small room place that you kind of were like, huh, small room.
Remember that?
Was that Kung Fu Necktie?
No, it wasn't Kung Fu Necktie. It was upstairs at a place.
I've never been there before.
A Philly bar. It was a Philly place. I'd never been there before. A Philly bar.
It was a Philly bar.
And you said, huh, small room.
So I was like, huh, fuck me.
Degraved is on, uh, hmm.
Well, anyway, that's what I'm playing.
And Mike, you have one more.
Degraved?
So it's like taking something out of a grave?
Yeah, degraved.
Anyway, and the other tape I was going to play is also degraved.
Exhumed Remnants. Oh, wow. So they're all about, like, takingraved. Anyway, and the other tape I was going to play is also degraved. Exhumed Remnants.
Oh, wow.
So they're all about taking stuff out of graves.
Taking a dead body.
Maybe I should play the second track on that tape because it's called Corpse Fermentation.
Oh.
No, I'm going to go with my gut.
Everything means something.
Pariah of Death and Darkness.
Yeah, I'm with you on this one, man.
Hell yeah, brother.
Joby, ending on a really scary one
What was the first tape you played on this episode?
Jerome Parker Wells
Wow that was like the least scariest tape we played
I like to take you on a journey
Oh my god that's true
That's it?
Thank you so much
I just take you there
Jamie chose the right handed path
Well I have one last tape.
I think I don't want to end it on something scary like that.
That sounds great.
I don't want listeners of this show.
Let's give people hope.
Pissing and shitting themselves.
In the world today, we need a little hope.
Right, Jamie?
Thank you.
How about it?
We do need some hope.
Yeah.
Because before the show, Jamie, you were talking very dark.
Very dark.
Very dark about, you were calling the president daddy, I think.
Well, daddy said.
You said, this is a secret, but daddy
is going to do good things.
He said the F word to the media the other day.
I was very turned off by that.
Yeah, I don't like that either.
They gave, remember when Obama smoked cigarettes
and they gave him such fucking flack about it?
Who did?
Just because he was smoking a cigarette.
And now all of a sudden this jagoff can say the F word.
And the P word.
Remember when he said that one?
I did not inhale.
Yeah.
I did not inhale that marijuana.
Remember that?
Yeah.
I do remember that.
I remember that.
I'll cut all this out, Jamie.
You don't have to worry about that.
Okay.
I'm going to end this on something a little bit more lighthearted.
Are you really going to cut that out?
Because I don't like to be edited.
He does not like to be edited. i don't like to be edited he does not like to be edited he doesn't like to be censored this is a split tape uh between two people mark mirza and ryan beckmeyer the tape itself it comes in the in the rocco case it's all
clear and you see right through the dang thing because it has a little
transparency cover with just text on it it's not even i wouldn't even call it a a cover really it's
just it doesn't have a fold it doesn't have the spine of a j card now let me ask you something
okay is this film is it film i think it's just like a i don't know maybe a transparency maybe
it's film i would assume a transparency okay that print it on maybe a home printer and then the tape itself is diy actors these are diy
actors yes but the look of it is very academic so you're blowing my mind you really have to
recontextualize the entire thing the tape itself is laser etched On both sides Science
Just a bunch of squiggly lines
A couple of them
A couple squiggly lines
A couple wavy lines
But when you put it all together
Joe do you believe in science?
Yeah I'm a big science guy
Okay
This is a big secret
But science is how we
Explain the divine
Oh from
Not really
Pink flamingos?
No I'm just
I'm just being
Divine's my favorite
Yeah from Pink Flamingos
I've never seen that
Okay
What side do I want to play? I'm going to play devise my, yeah, I've never seen that. Okay.
What side do I want to play?
I'm going to play the Ryan Beckmeyer side.
This is a bit of,
I wouldn't call it
an ambient tape,
but it's something
that's not going to be all.
Did you think I don't believe in science?
I don't know,
I was just talking.
Okay.
Yeah.
Well,
I drove by your house
and you didn't have
one of those science is real signs
in the front lawn.
Actually,
Joe, you did, you know, I drove by Jamie's house the other day. I just bought. science is real signs in the front lawn. Actually, Joe, you did.
You know, I drove by Jamie's house the other day.
Joe, hold on.
I just bought the new issue of Scientific American, Jamie.
It's a wonderful article on the healing powers of sunlight.
I drove by.
I just want to end the show on this.
I drove by Jamie's house the other day
and he had one of those, you know, those signs that say
like science is real, black lives matter,
no human is illegal.
Love is love.
He had one of those that was heavily edited.
Heavily edited.
I saw him out there with a Sharpie, and he was going to town on it.
And he was like, I'm a pretty liberal guy, but...
I don't like speaking in absolutes, so I have to make exceptions.
Love is love.
Really?
Don't come up with a specific
one that's a lungfish song
I think that's what they're referencing
