Starting point is 00:00:00 Can you? Black dance. Black dance. Black dance. Can you tell me what the most beautiful sound or the most interesting sound or the most interesting sound that you've ever heard is. Tabs out, Gazette podcast. Jamie, help me out
Starting point is 00:00:40 with the episode number. Yeah, what is it? You told me you were going to do the intro. Now you got my ass out on the line. Episode 210, back to school version. Back to school, back. Summer's over. Summer's over. We're back to work. Log on. From summer break. Where did everyone go? I just, I don't, I just worked. Jamie went places. I went to, went to the beach.
Starting point is 00:00:59 I've seen that Dubai chocolate everywhere now Starbucks the other day I did indulge in some viral Dubai chocolate That's a viral thing, huh? Yeah, and it's all over TikTok All over TikTok. It's all over everywhere now You are on the ground floor, I think It's all over his face too because he's a sloppy eater
Starting point is 00:01:17 And he... Well, chocolate at the beach And chocolate at the beach Hot. Jamie, it was a bad idea to only... Your idea to do Chocolate Summer Where you only ate chocolate from your meals. Did you hear his new thing he was talking about for this month? No. He's doing no shit
Starting point is 00:01:35 September. That is electoral nonsense. Where he's not going to poop at all. Oh, you told me about that. Yeah, I heard on Rogan. You hold it in to get all the nutrients back in. That's what our ancestors did. That's what our ancestors did. Specifically, some of his weirder uncles. Oh, Jesus Christ. All right, enough of this. What's up? We got a lot. We got a lot. We haven't done tapes since so long that there's some of these questions. I got a backlog. I'm speaking of backlogs. Jamie?
Starting point is 00:02:02 Jamie's got a backlog of a different variety. But Joe B, me and you both got a backlog of tapes that you wouldn't believe. I know. I didn't even bring all of them. The doctor says if I don't get them out, there's going to be an issue down the road. Oh, no, you got to get it out. I got to get it out. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:16 Okay, but I don't... I usually take care of myself at home, but... You walked into that one. That's nasty. That's Jamie humor. Yeah. I'm going to excuse me. That means it's more gross, right? Piss.
Starting point is 00:02:30 More diarrhea. Diaryas. Different types of fluids. Who wants to go first? Are we going right in? Jamie? Jamie, you'd like to go first? I go first if anyone wants. Yeah, why don't you go first? I feel like I often go first. I got a fancy new one. I just got.
Starting point is 00:02:46 Oh yeah? I just got tattooed by my friend Jeff Horn, New Jersey. Grabbing by the horns. He is now doing a Dungeon Synth project called Final Heaven with his girlfriend. And he gave me their new release, limited to eight. Oh, look at that thing. So we got the Polly Disney-type case. Yeah. A big one.
Starting point is 00:03:06 You got to have a lot of Acutramonts. You got to have some space in the apartment. Do you have... To look at these photos, do you have the white gloves? You know what? I have them, but Jamie was using it for a little bit. Now they're a little brown. So it comes in, like, wax paper.
Starting point is 00:03:21 There was a seal on here, but I had to bust it off. I don't know where it went. Like a wax seal. Oh, here it is. You clubbed it. see that see that yeah and then uh so i'll pass that around there's some photos to look at oh well this is like oh yeah this is a little wow we got a little poster who is this inside that's not them that's them really yeah oh wow hold on let me take my glasses off this is this is
Starting point is 00:03:46 remarkable this is excellent branding yeah and then we got a patch a bat no this is a patch okay for your uh screen print for my cut your battle vest my battle vest and then this is a nice embroidered one with the gold oh wow badges for black sun over frozen land oh and what's the scroll
Starting point is 00:04:05 that it comes with it comes with a little scroll poster for your room welcome to the frozen land edition of eight Jamie give me some spooky background when I say that you know exactly what I'm
Starting point is 00:04:16 I know exactly what I mean sorry I'm rusty yeah there's no medicine or powerful the music welcome to the frozen land A little scroll, this, like, glossy paper. Did you open it up?
Starting point is 00:04:29 I didn't want to. I didn't know if you hadn't yet. Oh, no, I did. I didn't know if you were trying to keep this mint on card. No, no, because this is going to go on the ceiling in my room. It's just a little poster of a spooky night to the ceiling of Joe B's room. And it says, may vengeance be your creed. Yeah, man, put that right over.
Starting point is 00:04:49 What is this, like some sort of, uh, what does this effect you have on me? Hello, I'm trying to dial in some spooky reverb, but I'm going to, getting all the wrong effects. My eyes are going crazy. What is that white shit? Is that fat? Like, smigma. There you found it. Welcome to Jobi's ceiling. Well, they took it off. Anyway, so I'm going to play that tape.
Starting point is 00:05:10 He doesn't know he's done. He's rusty. And what is, I didn't hear you. Is it Dungeon synth? Dungeon synth, obviously. It's more on the more ambient, spooky side than the Lord of the Rings fantasy music. A little foreshadow. I got some different flavors of Dungeon Sinth. for you today. Oh, great. A little assortment, a little taste. Oh, I'm so excited. Why do you have the reverb? Let's, um, I didn't, I don't have this cute up right now. We're going to do side B. Hold on. I got to stop you real quick. Yeah. First of all, time to play B sides. Oh, yeah. Second of all. Staff pick from
Starting point is 00:05:41 Joe B. That tape, everything in this thing is black and white. Yeah, but the tape's blue. And the tape's blue. Did they just have? I think they just had, there's only eight of these. Excuse me. You know what color of the tapes are? The other eight? They're all saying blue. Oh, blue. I got a fella here who wants to change for a dollar. Okay.
Starting point is 00:06:05 So final heaven. Black sun over frozen land. Satellite, and then they have satellite music, CD. Did you mention this numbering your, this is eight of eight? Did they make eight of these? I said they only made eight of these like four times already. Yeah, man, I got, I'm dealing with something with my sound clips that I'm dealing with, man. Come on.
Starting point is 00:06:23 So this is a, I think a split. supposed to be the one that does that doesn't listen it took it took two labels to put this out um night blade records and i can't read the other one some g something production is it is it is it night blade k n i g h ht or oh no stand n n i j okay like missed out of the night missed opportunity there yeah joby i've been thinking about what you said man i'm sorry man y'all i'm sorry i wasn't listen to me i'm sorry give me a hug that's nice thank you that was fucked up of me man thank you that well you did no there's a lot going on your soundboards not working i'm on you know tensions are high getting
Starting point is 00:06:59 starting in there's a picture of them on the back too she's got a cool sword hell yeah man this thing rules i'm gonna like it they're getting ready to play some fest in california oh california a dungeon fest but he was telling me a little bit like a dungeon synth fest just a dungeon fest well they're playing dungecon you know we went to the dotheast dungeon siege yeah not anyone can call their fest a siege so this place in california tried to and then we're told they got an angry email cease and desist
Starting point is 00:07:30 you can't just use siege dear Californian dungeon siege nice try so that's me that's me now you go Jamie Jamie go okay I have a very very different dungeon synth flavored
Starting point is 00:07:44 tape yeah because I saw that picture is this the Lego one it's the Lego one I'll pass it around tell me about this you order this I'm so happy about that an artist it's actually more on the vapor wave
Starting point is 00:07:55 side of things, but it's an artist called Dreamcastle with a little trademark symbol. Dreamcastle TM. This was a self-release tape, got self-released in two different editions, and then a label called the title charm from the Netherlands, picked it up and released it this year, I believe.
Starting point is 00:08:11 Wow, the presentation is top. No. Yeah, it's crazy. The tape is the craziest part to me. The tape, yeah, holding this tape. You are, you can't look at, give me the other stuff then. Pick one. Take the tape. I want it both. This is the craziest part. This tape, this tape is crazy It's the all over printing
Starting point is 00:08:30 Lego themed, I don't know how they haven't got sued Yeah, that's a licensed... You're telling me this, these people who made eight tapes Can't use the word siege? No, it's the fest people, they could use the word siege I love tapes with the printing like this all over Yeah The window right now is blowing my mind, the little castle window
Starting point is 00:08:46 Yeah, it's got the all over print of a Lego castle On the shell of the tape, but the spools The holes there are the windows of the castle. The graphic design is... Well, I wouldn't say the spools are the windows of the castle. The middle window...
Starting point is 00:09:00 Oh shit, I'm just seeing that for right now for the first time. I wouldn't say the spools are. That's insane. It's the window. So the window that shows how much tape is in there in the middle of the spools.
Starting point is 00:09:10 And it says, Lego Castle, 1979, 1998. I don't really know what that means. Can I see the nubs? Yeah, the nubs are just the regular the double... I always want to look at the...
Starting point is 00:09:21 I want to do that this early. I want to do that this early. I don't know if they are regular, Jamie, because if you look at them straight on, they seem like a traditional nub. But if you get a side view, there's an angular presence that you would... Oh, this is...
Starting point is 00:09:34 Oh, yeah, this is a sharp angle right here. All right, pretty good. Let me see the cover, and you can now look at the tape. The graphic design is incredible. The little Lego night on the... Oh, my God. I hope it doesn't get shut down. Don't shut them down.
Starting point is 00:09:51 Lego Archer. I love all the heraldry symbols. yeah and the music is kind of like you do hear some of that medieval fanfare with the horns but then it kind of fades into like sort of like a funkier like vapor type did you vet this did i vet this yeah no just because there's some nordic ruins on the bottom here oh okay that's okay sometimes it's not um what's the name of the label did we say that uh the title charm from from the netherland and the little diagram on the inside of the lego knights being constructed yeah it's is this a solo project it's a solo artist yeah and they released
Starting point is 00:10:28 two additions of this tape with different cover art and then the title charm put it out under their label what are you gonna play from here Jamie oh goodness I think for this oh dear
Starting point is 00:10:38 oh dear like just the A side of the B side or do you have anything or are you just gonna just I think this one I was doing the A side so I believe there might be a story with this whole thing with these two characters
Starting point is 00:10:49 magical tales with Magistow and Agwin. That's track one. Those are little Lego guys and something there. I think so. Track two is Magistow's Book of Hours. Yeah, I'm pretty sure we're going to do those first two tracks. Okay. That's from what I remember. Yep.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Hell yeah. And these fell out of there. Oh, those little vellum sheets? That's say something about a map. So there's some kind of a... Title Charm, Season 3, Secrets of the Forgotten Temple. Get one piece of the map with every order of a season three release
Starting point is 00:11:21 and overlay them to unveil hidden key word and get the secret mystery album, good luck. So I got to buy two more tapes from the Netherlands imported. Yeah, and then there's this really cool Vellum sheet that folds out that's got this early computer graphic,
Starting point is 00:11:38 what's that one bit? Like a DOS program. Asky art. And it's an Egyptian-type theme. There's two, you know, I'm not sure what these guys' names kind of like the sphinx but they're not sphinxes you know what i mean i can't see it from here but and uh yeah there's a boat at the bottom and steps leading to a temple oh and some cuneiform which might
Starting point is 00:12:02 be cute also shady no no that's the first language yeah yeah that's all right i have that tattooed on me right here hmm not these particular characters let's get into it this i'm intrigued by this jami yeah this is going to be a hard one to follow up i might need to play two just to battle it Okay. What two do I... You know what, I grabbed this. Wow. Let me make sure I got the right one here.
Starting point is 00:12:28 That's not the one I want it. Satellite, and then they have satellite music, CD. Vode. V-O-D-E. No, and this is the name of the project. It's not jazz. Sway... He's in a trance.
Starting point is 00:12:41 The jazz chance. It's not jazz. No, it's not trance, and it's not jazz. It's not jazz? It's electro nonsense. Is it electro? Is it electro? Is it?
Starting point is 00:12:48 You're getting closer. closer. Hello, computer. There we are. Zone Children is the name of the tape on a label called No Part of it. Oh, that's Arvo Zilo's label.
Starting point is 00:12:56 You got it, Jamie. You're on the ball. Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding. We have a weiner. I got a fella here wants to change for a dollar. You know, for a little celebration, Jamie,
Starting point is 00:13:05 go ahead and do one shit today. Just a little plop. I'm a little stopped up right now. I'll do my best. So this is Arvo Zilo and Leslie Kefer. Oh. Collaboration.
Starting point is 00:13:16 I forgot about Leslie Kuffer. Yeah, Kefer. I feel like I knew her through like the old like voice of the valley she was selling joints one time
Starting point is 00:13:24 anyone want a joint she was you do a really good keffer yeah yeah I didn't know she was selling joints I wonder if she's still
Starting point is 00:13:32 in the biz because that's really well nowadays everyone's in the biz Jersey just opened up like a place where you can go and smoke like
Starting point is 00:13:40 like somebody's living room no it's they finally opened up someone's living room no it's a dispensary on the boardwalk in Atlantic City but you can go there
Starting point is 00:13:46 buy their product and sit and enjoy it there's no other places like that they got it set up like um you remember that episode of uh nathan for you where at the woman's clothing store i don't even think of the name five i saw that and he set up the little like guy zone in the back to hang out
Starting point is 00:14:01 where there was like a cat yeah yeah yeah it's like that yeah there's a vCR a lot of people into music these days not sports games but it has it has to be like an unlicensed team for them to get permission to show it on TV okay i'll go there and smoke weed oh that reminds me my idea for a business but i'll tell jamie that all fair yeah
Starting point is 00:14:18 but she fucked around with like laundry room squelchers played with a rat a lot yeah yeah um has done stuff on like ecstatic piece yeah i was gonna say there's a yeah very much of that era of noise was a prominent figure yeah real head shit action claw um this is an addition of 150 with a special you card and i didn't get the special you card is the thing i got a standard you card. But here's what I'm thinking now, hold on. If there's an addition of 50 addition of 150 have a special U card
Starting point is 00:14:52 isn't there the exact same number for the other U card? Hello, computer. But either way, I'm going to play that. This is, and I'm going to also play... Let's find out what's inside it. What is that white shit? Is that fat? It's smigma.
Starting point is 00:15:10 G. Lucas Crane. You know that name? It's familiar. You know that name G. Lucas Crane? Is that one of Batman's villains? He is one of Batman's villains. Do you remember there was Scarecrow and King Tutt? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:15:23 And they had a baby. They did? G. Lucas Crane. And it was like a truck. I can't tell if you're doing a bit or not. Because you don't know Batman? Not really, yeah. Jamie wasn't allowed to read comics as a kid.
Starting point is 00:15:35 Jamie, what kind of shit were you not allowed to have as a child? Vanilla Ice. Oh, you were denied vanilla ice? Yeah. What was the reason? the language the language ice ice baby too cold your parents did not want you to know what it was like to have errone the language I don't know about two live crew
Starting point is 00:15:55 oh my gosh no way oh okay I wasn't sure if that one was but my friends no I listen to my friend's house yeah yeah me too that's like they should make a place in New Jersey where you go and listen to it listen to what's that called nastier than they want to nest than they ought to be or something like that the two live crew one with all the butts on the butts yeah not all the butts On Netflix, there was that hip-hop documentary thing, multiple series, and they did one on Miami hip-hop, and it was about that. It was actually a really good episode because of the free speech, like, the lawsuit that they won because, you know, they should be able to say, I like big butts, and I cannot lie. I like rock and roll.
Starting point is 00:16:31 You like rock and roll. G. Lucas Crane, was it the Vanishing Voice? Oh, yeah, wooden wand and the vanishing voice? Yeah, yeah, did a project called Non-Horse. Oh, so you're going back. and you're going back. That's the theme. I'm doing a little bit
Starting point is 00:16:46 of a throwback. It's going to be so good. Where are they now? I don't know if they would want to present it that way. But yeah, this is like, where are they now? Like, no one's heard from you. Or we're out of touch. Oh, I think it's mutual.
Starting point is 00:17:06 I think we're all in the same pool. I mean, they sent us the tapes. Oh, okay. So we're all swimming in the same pool. What end are we? Are we in the deep end? No, well I'm in the kiddie pool I'm in the kiddie pool
Starting point is 00:17:16 And I'm the only one Because all the parents came and got their kids Jamie's in the pool But he has a shirt on Well Jamie has to stand on the outside of the fence Because his mom was like Don't get you just ate He's got a swim shirt on
Starting point is 00:17:27 He's got the white sunscreen all over Like the two like real heavy Is he walk into the pool And he's got the big flippers on He's got a scuba thing The fucking tube The snorkel
Starting point is 00:17:40 Yeah Jamie why do you do that shit man I don't know. It's fun. When in Rome. Yeah, when in Rome. The Suttering Years is the name of the tape on a label called Artsy Records, who, I don't know, not too familiar with artsy records, but they have a really funny logo on their band camp if you want to look at it. Jamie, you can pull it up right now and look at it.
Starting point is 00:18:04 Satellite, and then they have satellite music, CD. But yeah, this is a little, where are they now? retrospective tabs out segment there's no medicine oh that is a funny um the logo looks like you took one of those 3D paint brushes on like a 90s computer and drew with it that's very fun
Starting point is 00:18:24 it's very fun said it to me fish it's very fun said it to me but... ...no... ...the... ...that... ...and...

Starting point is 00:33:51 I'm all right. I'm a man. I don't know how to go ahead. And... ...heed, me... ...theid... ...their... ...and...
Starting point is 00:34:07 ...and... ...the... ...and who... ...the... ...the... Oh, oh. Oh. Oh.
Starting point is 00:34:31 Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. I don't know. I don't know. We're going to be able to be able to be. We're going to be able to be.
Starting point is 00:34:45 We're going to be able to be. I'm going to be. I don't know. I don't know. We're going to be able to be. Oh! Oh! Oh!
Starting point is 00:34:59 Oh! Go ahead. Oh! Oh, man! Oh! Oh! We're going to be able to be. We're going to be able to go.
Starting point is 00:35:42 Oh! I don't know. It's a lot of it. I don't know. I don't know a lot of the way and a lot of it. Oh,
Starting point is 00:35:52 it's a good. We're going to be able to be. . I don't know. I'm going to be. I'm going to be. We're going to be able to be. I'm going to be.
Starting point is 00:36:04 I'm going to be. We're going to be. I'm going to be. I don't know how much. I'm going to be able to be. We're going to be able to be. I'm going to be. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:36:20 I'm going to be able to be. I'm going to be. Oh! I'm sorry. I'm not. I'm not. Oh! Oh!
Starting point is 00:36:30 Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Yeah! Oh! Oh!
Starting point is 00:36:39 Ah! Oh! And so, I'm going to ... ... ... ...
Starting point is 00:36:48 ... I'm not going to be able to be. Oh, I'm going to be. I'm going to be. Oh, I'm going to be. I don't know. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:37:20 We're going to be. We're going to be. I'm not I'm not I'm going to I'm going to I'm going to I'm
Starting point is 00:37:33 a lot of I'm and the I'm a so I'm I'm gonnae. I'm gonnae.
Starting point is 00:37:43 I don't know. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Yeah! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh!
Starting point is 00:37:54 Oh! Oh! I don't know. Ah! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh!
Starting point is 00:38:03 Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! How are you? I don't know. Oh my mom.
Starting point is 00:38:14 Are you? Mom? How are you? How are you? I was at Earl's on the evening of the evening of the evening of the sale Parthenia Davis Henry Davis andry Davis The Children's Hospital, what's wrong with that?
Starting point is 00:39:03 Final Heaven. on my headphones. Yeah, it's real quiet. Like fucking usual. He's in a trance. The jazz trance. The main fader was down. Why'd you turn it down? Because we were listening to the speaker in the room before. Okay.
Starting point is 00:39:16 We were enjoying that. We really need to sit down and make a clean system one day. I'd rather keep a going like this. It just doesn't change. It's kind of like jazz. I like it like jazz. No one listens to jazz. I like it like jazz. I'm not saying, you fear jazz. I'm not saying we have to listen to it. I like to.
Starting point is 00:39:31 He's in a trance. The jazz trance. Final Heaven. Black Sun. over frozen land. That is electro-nonsense. It's on two labels. One of them has the initials GMP. No one can read what your label name is. Fix that.
Starting point is 00:39:46 Well, I think this music might be designed for a younger crowd. Yeah. You know. Am I free to go? And then Nightblade Records. I can read that, but it's getting harder. I'm going to say three more years.
Starting point is 00:40:00 The fonts are getting more complicated and they're getting smaller. Have you noticed that? The fonts are getting smaller? Have I noticed that? that's like one of my three main things. Yeah. Make fonts big again.
Starting point is 00:40:09 And then Nightblade. 2026. Speaking in nights, there's a night on the Lego tape. Dreamcastle TM, the Lego Castle 1979 to 1998, released by the title charm.
Starting point is 00:40:23 Beautiful packaging. And then the Where Are They Now segment with Vode, Zoned Children on no part of it, and G. Lucas Crane, the Sutter Ring is, on Artsy Records. There's no medicine more powerful than music.
Starting point is 00:40:38 That's true. That's true. And Jamie has been very sick lately, so we should give him some more music. Yeah, I've been... People into music these days, huh? Have you guys noticed that I've been drinking some honey before I go back on the air? I noticed the honey over there, and my blood triggers 192, thanks. That's what Axel Rose does.
Starting point is 00:40:54 When he gets on stage, he drinks some honey. Well, that's, I mean, that's been medicinal uses for the last... Welcome to the Chaco! Yeah, Jamie, when you put on the little, oops, I got some honey. on me thing. And you started like smearing it on you like yeah, we noticed it. Is that Manuka?
Starting point is 00:41:12 No, I don't believe in the healing quality's manuka honey. You don't? Not really. Why not? That was very sassy. You call it Joby Honey like that. Based off of what data?
Starting point is 00:41:22 Based off my personal experience with it. And also some stuff I read online that said it wasn't really ever. I don't know. We don't have to get into Honey. It's too controversial. I don't think it's that much of a controversy, but okay. No, I don't know. I don't know much about it.
Starting point is 00:41:34 It doesn't taste good. That was more of a bit. Have you tried it? Maybe a long time ago. It tastes like really thick and brown. And it's like, it tastes like medicine. It's, I don't know. Because that's what it is.
Starting point is 00:41:44 Yeah. I got to isolate Jamie saying really thick and brown. Really thick and brown. Hello, computer. All right. Who's going to go now? Back to Round Robin. I'll go again first.
Starting point is 00:41:56 Or do we want to switch it? Joby, what was something you weren't allowed to have as a kid? Something I wasn't allowed. Music-wise. Music-wise. There was, well, when I bought the body. account tape I got in trouble. Oh shit.
Starting point is 00:42:08 Because your dad's a cop. No, no, because I bought it. I didn't even know what it was. The video for There Goes the Neighborhood was on MTV. In retrospect, I don't know how they edited that song into a... Oh, computers. So anyway, so I get the tape. We're in the car.
Starting point is 00:42:24 I love computer. We have to stop at another store. So my mom's in the other store. And meanwhile, I'm opening the tape and enjoying looking at it. But now I'm reading the lyrics. And I'm like, holy shit. What the fuck do I have? right
Starting point is 00:42:34 cop killer is on there right and my mom gets back in the car and she's like well let's put in your tape to listen to it on the way home this is like the original tabs and I was like no no no it's cool no no no and she put it in and you know the first evil dick or whatever the first track the skit in the beginning okay so then
Starting point is 00:42:50 I got in trouble and they're grilling me like where did you hear about this how do you know about this who showed you this MTV did so I had to return it and I got Iron Maiden Fear of the Dark only because the cover but it was fucking stupid at the time I wanted nice tea I would have taken him to Arnold Palmer
Starting point is 00:43:06 There goes the neighborhood Fear of the dark Dunna na na na na na na What about Was this before the explicit lyrics? No this is that Maybe it was before that That happened because of your mom probably
Starting point is 00:43:20 It might have been before that Your mom and Tipper Gore were really Or maybe They didn't notice Anyway so I wasn't allowed to Like that was really it though That was the only one All right
Starting point is 00:43:33 that was like very cool that was like hearing an early episode of Taps out when you got the tape and you opened up and you were like looking at it
Starting point is 00:43:38 that's just like now shit don't change man that's so cool time is a flat circle speaking of which do you want to do that again right now let's see if he gets in trouble
Starting point is 00:43:46 I might so this tape I know nothing about excuse me and I just bought it at Jupiter randomly 299
Starting point is 00:43:55 the band is called conspiracy demo 2016 okay it is like what it seems to be on the cover an all three-girl
Starting point is 00:44:04 I would say punk band there's leather involved leather jackets leather skirts go on the little spikes the little spikes the little spikes
Starting point is 00:44:16 conspiracy is carla vocals guitar Angie bass Claire drums so Joe just I mean this is going to be a super Delaware specific question but I was at Jupiter
Starting point is 00:44:26 the other day and I saw they had a little Napa case set up just for noise tapes at Jupiter. I didn't notice that. Yeah. They had like,
Starting point is 00:44:35 oh gosh, I forget who was in there now. Well, that dude, Dave Smolin used to work there. Yeah, yeah. And actually I have another thing
Starting point is 00:44:42 that might play that I just got as a dungeon synth comp and he's on it. Oh, cool. Yeah, I know, Dave. Yeah. Nice.
Starting point is 00:44:48 But he hasn't worked there in a while, but that's interesting they have a noise section. Right. Yeah, it even said, it had a handmade
Starting point is 00:44:53 sign that said noise tapes on the side of it. I was like, that's cool. So this was recorded by Chris Bowman, stereo abuse, 2016,
Starting point is 00:45:00 a photo by Kelsey Henderson And you haven't listened to it? No This is the premiere Yeah, I haven't listened to this yet Holy shit, this is so exciting And I'm pretty sure I tried to Google a little bit And found nothing
Starting point is 00:45:12 Well, conspiracy You just, well, that's your number one web search I think conspiracy demo 2016 Yeah And it was like a conspiracy about the demolition of a building Yeah, yeah Joe B was like
Starting point is 00:45:24 And the little gif was like Looks like it just got hit by a plane But it was a controlled demolition So then I... Too soon. Yeah, too soon. Coming up in a couple days, boys. You just type in conspiracy, and it has one of those tabs that says, like, continue browsing, because you've been looking up in the word conspiracy already, just generally.
Starting point is 00:45:40 So, yeah, I have no idea what this is. I don't even know, like, where this band's from. I was assuming from here, it doesn't say. It doesn't say. Oh, here, let me say. Well, if, Jamie, if you could do a little, maybe quick little research on Chris Bowman's stereo abuse. Real quick, though.
Starting point is 00:45:55 Like, real quick. Like, maybe don't even type all the words. Or, like, don't do it. the vowels, just do consonants? My keyboard only does consonants. Okay. Where's Y land on that one? Do you have Y?
Starting point is 00:46:09 Sometimes. There's a separate USB with one button. Is it big or is still the size button? No, it's a small, regular-sized button. I found it on discogs, Joe. You won't believe it. Oh. That was quick.
Starting point is 00:46:29 I won't believe that you found it, or I won't believe what you've uncovered. No, I just thought you'd be impressed that I found it on discos. No, that's why I gave you the task. I knew you would find it. Oh, you knew what you had faith in me. Thank you. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You're not going to believe this, guys. You're not going to believe this. I got a fella here who wants to change for a dollar. What do you want to be when you grow up?
Starting point is 00:46:50 But guess, you know how, like, when there's duplicate artist names on discogs that they're like incommended? Do you know what number of conspiracy this artist is? Oh, let's do it. Let's see who gets closer. Oh, 72. No, I'm going to say 12. You're kind of in the middle. Take 54. 21.
Starting point is 00:47:05 Yeah, get closer. 30. Oh. 28? It's above 30. I'll just say 35. 35. I was going to guess 35 next.
Starting point is 00:47:15 Do we know anything like where these people are from? The label. New York hardcore punk active from 2016 to 2017. Members of Sad Boys La Misma, Vermin, ectoplasm, subvertive rights. A lot of people into music these days, huh? Cool. They have a band camp. Oh, all right.
Starting point is 00:47:37 See, I didn't do that much due diligence. Conspiracynoy.com. God, there's so much information out there. I'm not good at it. I don't have the internet at my apartment. That's true. You don't have Wi-Fi. Wow, Jamie, you're like a sleuth.
Starting point is 00:47:48 You did a really good job. Thank you. You're like a regular old guy noir. You don't get that reference. No. Sorry. It's what this show's based on. All right.
Starting point is 00:47:58 Jamie, what are you going to play after that? NPR. You don't listen to NPR on Sundays? I don't. No. Okay, I'm going to play... Actually, I forgot to mention this about the first tape that I played. Oh, hold on, can you do a flashback sound or, like, let us know that we're going back? Just so I know where I am in time. I wish I had a good flashback sound.
Starting point is 00:48:15 You must have something. Jamie, please. What is that white shit? Is that fat? Oh, I got one. There we go. There we go. Hell yeah. So the previous tape that I played,
Starting point is 00:48:29 the Dreamcastle TM tape. Mike Haley, our very own, had texted me a band camp link to that page a little while ago, and I bought it. Yeah, that's what he does. It's a sigh-off. It's like, this is another tape. Pop-up ads. It's an MLM, I'm derog. He wants you to play that on the show.
Starting point is 00:48:45 Yeah. So that's why he sends us stuff so that we buy it. So that we buy it. So I fell... It's not a bad gig. Fool me once. I did it. Fool me twice. I bought this tape. Shame on you. Shame on me. So I'm going to pass this one around. This is an artist called Tulula Bank Heist. Oh, hell yeah, you bought this one? I bought it.
Starting point is 00:49:02 It's awesome. You don't buy enough of the ones I send you, I got to say. Okay, well... They get lost in the sauce sometimes. Yeah. This is on a label called Cry Like Donna. Oh, what's that? Like a clear orange construction color tape?
Starting point is 00:49:14 Yeah. Yeah, it's like a safety... Like a truck backing up safety tape. Oh, wow, look at the drawings in here. It looks cool, yeah. This looks cool. Yep. These little monster drawings.
Starting point is 00:49:23 One thing that's interesting about the sweet realm is... What's sweet realm? Is that the label? Where are you reading that? It's all. It's on the tape. Oh, maybe that's a track. So, yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:33 So it's just interesting that the letters are off kilter. Yeah, I see what you're saying. Like, there was some font corruption. Or like when they printed this out, the paper got jammed for a little bit at the end. Yeah, yeah, I like it, though. So on the band camp. Font corruption is a good band name. There's 28 tracks, and it spells out, behold, our super sweet realm.
Starting point is 00:49:53 Oh, I see what they did there. Yeah. A little wordplay. A little word play. I wonder if they need, did they need your, did they need your U.S. USB, Y to the right there. Yeah. Oh, look at these people on the cover.
Starting point is 00:50:04 Again, what kind of bit illustration is this? I was going to just ask, like, it's not 8-bit, right? It's like a mixture of needlepoint and 8-bit. Needle point, right. 2-bit? I don't know if they ever had 2-bit systems. You, 92-bit alt-wick. Pixel art.
Starting point is 00:50:21 Pixel art, though, because isn't it more like it has, I think pixel art is more square. but these are squares are they maybe i just need my classes off pass it back over yeah these are squares that's much more crisp now i need him i need to truth be told i do have to make an eye doctor it reminds me more of ms paint than it does dos if i'm being honest yes yes whereas the dungeons the other thing that you played the insert thing the vellum sheets was very doss right right that's true this looks very thematic jamie i'm your two tapes you've played to i know well jamie always has a thing so excited on what is his third tape going to be now?
Starting point is 00:50:58 Yep. Because look at these things. Well, that's why you got to stick around. Yeah. Here I'll do. Jamie takes us on a journey every time that we're not prepared to go on, but it...
Starting point is 00:51:08 Hmm. I missed that one. All right. So Tallulah Bank Heist are two artists Hedra Rowan and Nick Maryhue. That is electro-nonsense. Where are they from?
Starting point is 00:51:21 I need a location. I need them to share their location with me. I don't know if I ever found that out. I don't even say I can name five songs. Oh, no. They don't really have a lot of works on discogs. You know, I'm going to guess I'm going to guess Brooklyn. That's where all these are.
Starting point is 00:51:40 But they're really from fucking Iowa. Right, that's true. I know, man. I'm like, oh, I live in New York. I'm like, oh, how long did you live there? Six months. Four weeks. All right.
Starting point is 00:51:52 I might play two more now. Oh, my God. Two more. What? Can I play two instead? Yeah. You want to play? Oh, you mean instead of me playing too?
Starting point is 00:51:59 No, I'll... Right now, because I bought three random tapes when I bought that conspiracy tape. Okay, yeah, go ahead. You can go now. You can go ahead. Very unconventional, but I'll... All right, I'm going to play this band. I'm pretty sure these bands are all kids.
Starting point is 00:52:11 This band's all kids. I think it's called... What is it called? Surrender. And the tape's called Golden Neuse. It's got a little golden noose on it. This is on R Block Productions. 69 out of 75.
Starting point is 00:52:38 I just, this isn't the song I'm going to play. Tomb is the song, but I'm just going to read a little bit of the lyrics. Jamie, can I have a little bit of reverb? Yeah. Hello. Hello. Check, check. All right.
Starting point is 00:52:51 This is the end lyrics for the song, Tomb. Give them some scary background. music too. Yeah, yeah. I know you got like a witch's keyboard or something. Yeah. Yeah, put it on the witch's keyboard. Hello? Okay, there you go. All right. Excuse me. Stop. All right. Ready? There's no fucking point in anything I do. All these things I've learned from you. I'm worthless. I'm failing. I'm choking. I'm dying. That's sad. There's no medicine or powerful the music. one of the favorite things I have on this tape is the thank you list a special thanks to Tanner's mom for being a total babe
Starting point is 00:53:29 so the tone changes a lot yeah imagine being Tanner so see there are so look a picture of these kids oh I forgot they were kids so Colin talking about somebody's mom is pretty funny yeah yeah it's Tanner's mom dude oh these are children again I know nothing about this Jamie
Starting point is 00:53:48 R block records surrender golden noose I wonder who I wonder what the deal with Tanner's mom actually is And this came with a little like a little business card thing that just says 641 distro
Starting point is 00:54:01 dot big cartel.com So I found him Yeah I knew you would This was released To get Do you know what year this is from? I would say it's around the same time
Starting point is 00:54:11 2016 2018 2013 2013 Oh so they're men now They're men They're men These aren't little boys anymore
Starting point is 00:54:18 Wonder if Tanner's mom Still got it You gotta wonder she keeps it tight they put out a record in 2010 really yeah yeah so yeah again I did listen this one a little bit so just rewind to aside okay yeah is oh yeah you 299 for all these tapes huh yeah you're going so I'm doing a double rock block
Starting point is 00:54:38 okay let's do it do I get to play anything now you get to go and do whatever you want okay um what is this one I'm gonna play this one what time is it all right we got time Oh, what is this I have here? You fear, jazz. It's not jazz. Lars McCoy.
Starting point is 00:54:58 Hello, computer. Lars McCoy, endless waltz on a label. Hello, computer. Nice. That was cool. On a label with my... There's no medicine. There's no medicine.
Starting point is 00:55:14 There's no medicine. There's no medicine. There's no medicine. The music is not a No medicine There's no medicine There's no medicine And I'm the next five
Starting point is 00:55:30 Pops Joe B Change for a dollar Hell yeah Activated skeleton It's like my favorite name For a label Wait a minute
Starting point is 00:55:38 What? I know that label Oh Jamie Why? Why, Jamie? We've played them before We've played them before
Starting point is 00:55:43 Well we definitely have How do you activate a skeleton? Well that's why I like the name so much There's so much intrigue I guess it's a spell And then once you can't Once you cast activate skeleton, you have an activated skeleton. What if you build some sort of like mech costume type thing that the skeleton goes inside of and you activate it?
Starting point is 00:56:01 Oh, I thought you were going saying that the mech thing is a skeleton. Maybe it's that. Maybe it's that. That just means a framework. What if there's some sort of like ooze? What if there's some sort of ooze that activates the skeleton? And now it can move? Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:56:17 So this is a bio-mechanical construct. That's why I like it so much You've found it That's why I like it so much We did it, Joan Start a pick from Joe B Because The mystery is there
Starting point is 00:56:34 It could be anything Well not anything I think there are some few things It can't be anything There are limitations It still has to fit into the activated skeleton There are limitations It still has to be an activated skeleton
Starting point is 00:56:43 Well I'm going to put that on my DIY spell list For my game I'm making I think it's I think it's something So Cass Shadow, which Jamie didn't understand. I think it's something that we've only thought about this in terms
Starting point is 00:56:56 of like a human skeleton. I think cast shadow is a good spell because you can make a false shadow to distract a person. Yeah, it's an excellent spell. It's not that he doesn't think it's a good spell, it's that he didn't understand what you were talking about. Oh, right. I can't wait to play the Alex Holman D&D adventure with Jamie.
Starting point is 00:57:12 Oh, bonus episode. Bonus episode coming soon. Yeah. But Lars McCoy, endless waltz, record it. Oh, God, he's one of these guys. record it while eating and drinking and then he processed that through a euro rack everybody's got a euro rack everybody's that white shade that fat it's smegma
Starting point is 00:57:29 it's a home-dubbed cassette on it says satellite and then they have satellite music CD it says cyanotype yeah on denim I don't know what cyanotype cyanotype is like a kind of like a photo printing type method where you code it with a silvery blue material and then put a negative on it
Starting point is 00:57:49 so you coat this like in this case denim yeah with that with that liquid and then you put a positive on it is that a positive or a negative well i guess it depends on what you want you put a transparency thing on it and expose it to light and then when you take it off and wash it then the other you know just like doing a screen print okay i never heard that before cyanotype oh yeah that's a that's a that's a method let me see can i say it um a lot of people to music these days, huh? Jamie, do me a favor. I want you to, this is something I discovered. Find Lars McCoy on Discogs and tell me how many entries that they have. Because from what I found, I have some information that I found, but I'm not sure if it feels right. Not my favorite sticker thing.
Starting point is 00:58:35 What, just like the sticker. Just the circle sticker and it's just handwritten A. Well, you know now. B. But it's productive. You know. And this is broke. Do you know that Lars McCoy has a credit on one of Mike Haley's tapes?
Starting point is 00:58:48 Yeah, that's what I found. And I think there's only four discogs credits. And one of them is artwork for a tape I did. Oh, really? What tape? I forget. A ghoul treatment on gay hippie vampire. I haven't been looking at the nubs.
Starting point is 00:59:02 You guys keep talking. You got to do nub checkup. Let Joe B do a little nub checkup. Nubless. Nubless. Shake it around. It stays in there pretty good. Yeah, because what do you need to do that?
Starting point is 00:59:12 There's no rattle. Yeah. They learned over time that the tape could be secure. There was something about when tapes first came. came out that they felt like they had to really secure that. Yeah, yeah. And they went through many iterations of shapes. And then somebody was like, well, you know what?
Starting point is 00:59:26 I don't think they do need to be. Yeah, I got to put the circles there just in case we need it. Double nubless over here. But I guess I'll just play one because we got a pretty heavy block. Look at double nubless over here. Get a load of this guy. Oh. Hey.
Starting point is 00:59:49 Let me Let it's hear about the hell and tell it's how it's been the floor Come on the dark, come in the dark, come down, come on a freak of a shit. The map is out to listen. Motherfucking, yeah. I see a lot of tough out. It's coming by and I. He's got the degradation.
Starting point is 01:00:30 The ultimate! The sky is we are taken! And we're not far behind! The sky is being taken! And we're not far behind. They'll decide if it rains on the day they steal our mind. There is all the other! I won't let me again!
Starting point is 01:01:34 Raise us! Raise us! They're hiding by you guys! Raise them! Raise up! Just shut down! I'm getting a rabel! Oh!
Starting point is 01:01:48 Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! Oh! I don't know I don't know
Starting point is 01:01:57 Why don't know I don't know I'm trying to feel like I'm trying to feel like that. I'm looking at! But you're supposed to get to do it again I'm sorry to defendants I'm glad to die. I'm excited to die.
Starting point is 01:02:41 I'm sorry. The United Chalky Chalky Chances! We thank you. I. And... ...and eats... ...and... ...are...
Starting point is 01:03:21 ...a... ...a... ...the... ...and... ...the... ...and... ...a... ...an...
Starting point is 01:03:45 Oh, the... ...woulda... ...theirr... ...the... ...the... ...the... ...the... ...hean...
Starting point is 01:04:17 ...you know... ...and... ...the... ...the... ...you... ...the... ...the... ...the...

Starting point is 01:08:28 My own affection, not in the breath. That's right on this is going to do. And it's a mistake. And it's a deal. I'm going to be found who's got to see. I want to talk is a mental change. You're not going to have been in everything to say. One of the soul was I won.
Starting point is 01:08:45 But I know who's breaking the other man. Ah! But I've sent myself off, I wear myself to be bothered myself to You I am trying to I am

Starting point is 01:11:46 We're going to be. We're going to be. I'm not I'm going to I'm going to I'm going to I'm I'm going to
Starting point is 01:12:00 I'm I'm so I'm You know what I'm going to be. I'm going to go. I don't know how much. We're going to be able to be.
Starting point is 01:12:12 We're going to be. I'm going to be. I'm going to be able to work. We're going to be able to be. We're going to work. We're going to be able to be. We're going to be able to be.
Starting point is 01:12:30 We're going to be able to be able to get away. Get away. I don't know how much. I don't know. I don't know what I'm going to be. We're going to be able to be. We're going to be. We're going to be.
Starting point is 01:13:18 We're going to be. We're going to be. We're going to be. I'm sorry. We're going to be able to ...and... ...withal... ...you know,
Starting point is 01:13:32 ...and... ...you know. ...their... ...you... ...the... ...the... ...and... ...and...
Starting point is 01:13:52 ...and... ...and... We're going to be. We're going to be. We're going to be. We're going to be. I'm going to be. We're going to be able to see.
Starting point is 01:14:08 We're going to be able to see. Pretty fucking good track, dude. Sounded like a beer can getting flattened. That was... Conspiracies, 2016 demo. And then surrender, golden no. No, no, Tolula Banckeyes was between that. No, Jamie went.
Starting point is 01:15:07 Remember we sandwiched a name? Jamie went first No, no I played two tapes in a row And you're only naming one I don't think you did Golden Neuse We just played it surrender
Starting point is 01:15:16 Here's what happened You Pick the conspiracy tape Yeah Then Jamie picked a tape Then I said I'm gonna play two And you said well then I want to play two I thought that got added on to my
Starting point is 01:15:27 First thing So you're saying that that tail ended Yeah we don't have the ability To go back and add it in there Okay that's fine As long as I did get two You got two All right
Starting point is 01:15:36 Chiching So it was the conspiracy 2016 demo. It was Tallulah Bank Heist. Yep. Realm on Cry Like Donna, which was the second part in Jamie's three-part series. Can't wait to see how it ends. Then you played Surrender, those little boys. The tape was called Golden News on R Block.
Starting point is 01:15:59 Then you went. And then I went. I played Lars McCoy, Enlist Waltz, activated skeleton. And that was the block. so what do we what do we land on surrender those Jenny from the block you think they're like in their late 20s early 30s now yeah time really caught up with you know because they put our record out in 2010 you said too right yes that's right yeah yeah and we don't know where they're from
Starting point is 01:16:21 I don't I don't want to stress you out you got a lot going on on your plate right now might be able to figure that out what area code is 641 oh hello I carry the four yeah no computer I don't have it on me 641 is Iowa Central Iowa
Starting point is 01:16:40 So that came with a little card that said 641 distro Okay so That's a lead It's a lead
Starting point is 01:16:47 I'm not saying Yeah They're a distro For all kinds of stuff I'm not hauling anyone Into the station Over just that But it's definitely
Starting point is 01:16:53 I'll look out It is something You know It's a trail It is a trail All right We should probably End this episode
Starting point is 01:17:01 We should let Jamie do you want to Go first So you can really Just do the big old Reveal I don't think I can name five
Starting point is 01:17:06 songs. Yeah, so, well, my reveal is, well, first, I was able to break free from Mike Haley for this one. What the hell does that even mean? Well, the first two tapes you basically picked out for me. For your influence. Yeah, I'm fucking helping you. I thought I was your friend, man. I said, well, you help me, but now I can fly. You're pulling the strings. You're a puppet master. Actually, I'm
Starting point is 01:17:24 now I'm going to take control back. Here's how I do it. Before you play this tape, I want you to read that fucked up message you got. Oh, yeah. You got a tape-related message. Well, it doesn't have to be fucked up. It's just a strange message. Okay. It was a bit on the eccentric. It's an eccentric, but fucked up.
Starting point is 01:17:38 I'm not going to say who this is from, but it's... Now, I also should say I haven't read it, so... I don't think fucked up is bad. Okay. It's from a friend of the show sent to me on Instagram. I'm not sure if this person's a listener. Like, if I told you, Joe B, like, if you did something cool and I said, man, you got like a fucked up mine, man.
Starting point is 01:17:55 But it still has negative connotations. I think there were good intentions, but it was a weird conversation. Should you have some sort of background music to this? A little revert. Not revert. Do you have background music on your... I don't know. I can get something.
Starting point is 01:18:06 Yeah. Give me a, like a leisure suit lawyer. Yeah, yeah. Okay. So, I'm going to do, so for my voice, I'll do like a deeper voice. Yeah, right.
Starting point is 01:18:17 Can you pitch that down, Mike? I can try. I'm selling off all my goods over the next two years. I want to extend an invitation to the tabs out crew. We could find a weekend. I can pick y'all up
Starting point is 01:18:30 at the Ontario airport. Y'all? Yep. You can. So I'm coming? Yeah. all y'all okay you can pick all the stuff you want we will find medium excuse me we can pick up all this we can pick all the stuff you want we will find medium price on discogs and I will knock off
Starting point is 01:18:52 another 25% discount I can take you to post office and out at night then back to airport Sunday night or Monday night it's a weekend and I said Ontario we're in Delaware I thought in L.A. And this person says, I am L.A. County. Ontario is the major airport on the east of the county, and L.A.X. is the west. I'm thinking you could fly in Thursday afternoon
Starting point is 01:19:17 or night, and I'll pick you up. While I'm working Friday, you can put together all the tapes you want. There are just a few I want to keep. Then we can mail them Saturday morning. Oh, wait, so we're not taking them back on the plane with us. No, I think we're shipping them to the post office. At the post office.
Starting point is 01:19:33 Okay. Why can't I bring Since I'm flying in real quick, why can I just have a carry-on bag? Because you're going to get so many tapes, man. Oh, okay. You're not going to be able to carry him back. Okay, all right. Keep going. Then I can take you out Friday night in San Gabriel Valley.
Starting point is 01:19:47 Oh, we get to go out a night. So he works all day Friday. They work all day Friday. And we look through the stuff. Yeah, like we're in their apartment, digging through all their stuff. Yeah. But they don't live there. So what do you mean apartment?
Starting point is 01:19:59 Are we at the airport? See, now I'm thinking Ontario is somewhere in L.A. wait Ontario is the major airport on the east of the country and LAX is the West I don't get this now I can take you out I'm thinking you could fly in Thursday so now I think they changed it I think they're like no Ontario is out you're coming to L.A. Oh okay so we fly in to L.A. on a Thursday yeah
Starting point is 01:20:20 do we I guess we go out that night is they say I then I can take you out Friday night that's Friday night but I'm talking about Thursday night Thursday night we're coming in Thursday we get there we get there we get there we just to the unwind where I'll be gently Okay
Starting point is 01:20:35 Friday we go to their house Yeah We look through the stuff They get off work Five Yeah yeah We go out on the town
Starting point is 01:20:43 Go out on the town Don't even talk about the tapes That night We don't even talk about tapes Well it's in the thing Yeah Saturday We're on Saturday now Saturday we can go to the mountains
Starting point is 01:20:53 Behind me Or visit L.A. If there's a show Sunday I drop you off at the airport Either way There's a guest room So it's a free getaway
Starting point is 01:21:01 Okay so yeah This is we're in L. We're in L.A. Yeah. The Ontario thing's out the door. That's out the door. Okay. All the people who want my things are record store people and they just mark them up and sell them.
Starting point is 01:21:10 All my close friends are vinyl people. Let me know your thoughts. I would love to help tabs out make a bit of money. Jamie, give me a really... Oh, so we're reselling these? I don't know. But after some... Do they think that we sell all the stuff that we get?
Starting point is 01:21:24 I don't know. I think he thinks we're a store. Okay, so I said, after a while, because I was like, how do I respond to this? Because it was such a detailed... And it's also somebody... even though it's an odd request it's somebody genuinely sounding to be nice and going out of their way to like offer something
Starting point is 01:21:39 so you know I said yo sorry for the delay we'll definitely not be able to do this thanks for thinking of me slash us truth is we have more tapes than we know what to do with and people send them for free so I rarely buy tapes anymore and I know Mike and Joe are the same in fact don't say that
Starting point is 01:21:55 that's true rarely I do I buy tapes all the time I'm constantly supporting tapes tape labels and everything. And then I said, I did say, Joe just gave me six boxes of tapes. And I said, that's an unprecedented gift and a burden. Yeah, but you had it. That's life, Jamie.
Starting point is 01:22:12 But didn't you guys, you met at the Ontario airport when you did that, right? Well, Toronto. Yeah. Okay. So I noticed that Jamie spoke for us. Like, we can't, we definitely can't do it. Yeah, I mean, I could.
Starting point is 01:22:23 Road trip. I'm ready to do this. I don't even. So we're driving to L.A. now? So that we don't need to do the post. Say, if we drive, we don't need to do. do the post office stuff. We're going to rent a car. We'll rent a car and I only want like four or five tapes. So there's four specific ones I want to get. Well, hopefully they have them. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:22:40 Well, that's what I'm hoping that they have them. All right. That's true. Well, we got all day Friday to look through the tapes while this person's at work. Yeah. All right. That sounds like a good fun. But it sounds pretty sick. Then we get to go to the mountains. The mountains? Yeah. Are there more tapes in the mountains? No, no. That's just for fun. That's a different thing. And then maybe a show. Maybe a show. If there is a show. Right. Yeah. Who is he paying for the show? Dinner and a show. It didn't say that, so I would assume no.
Starting point is 01:23:06 This sounds like a lovely weekend. It might be. Why did you say no? And it's free? Oh, it's free. Freedom isn't free. I'm assuming he's going to pay for our tickets are like... No, all this is on our dime.
Starting point is 01:23:17 He's only given us a 25% discount off mid-level discogs. Yeah. He said medium, but I think he meant median. Because discogs has the median price. He said the medium. No, I want 25%. It still comes from the base root word of meaning in the middle. Okay, true.
Starting point is 01:23:35 I want 25% off the youth large on discogs. All right. So anyway, yeah, I don't know what made me think about that. I showed it to Mike, and then Mike wanted me to read that on the show. So I thought it was worth of reading. I hope I don't get in trouble for it, but I think it was pretty interesting. I do think you will get in trouble, but that was also part of my plan. Oh, excuse me.
Starting point is 01:23:54 All right, Jamie, welcome to the jungle. So you got a, you got a close-in-close about. This is one I picked out all by my big boy self. Let me pass it around. Mike, tell me what you see on... Not much so far. He sees a little DOS prompt, right? Oh, I saw you sent the pictures.
Starting point is 01:24:13 There's a little code type of... If you put it in the light the right way, though, it becomes a little bit evil. There's something in the background. There's like a... It might be a Nordic run. What do you catch? Oh, Jamie? The one tape I played had some iron crosses on the artwork, too.
Starting point is 01:24:28 I didn't vet that either. What do you call when you, like, catch a demon, and, like, you put down, like, salt or whatever? Yeah, like, I know what you mean. It's, like, one of those, but they're kind of trying to catch the C-prompt. Oh, oh, oh, so that is, uh, that's the Nordic compass. Is that what that is? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:24:46 A notorious white power symbol. Are you serious? Huh? This? Right here? Yeah. No way. No, I'm not sure.
Starting point is 01:24:55 Oh, my God, jokes. I've covered them up. It's always sketchy when people want Norrist. stuff. So this is a, um, this is an artist called Master Boot Record. I bought this on the last band camp Friday. I realized I had skipped, I had become so zealous about band camp Friday. I used to spend over $100 every band camp Friday during COVID. And this band camp Friday came around. I said, you know what? I'm going to, I'm going to go on, on band camp and find one tape. And that's what's interesting. That no one told you about it. You found it yourself. All by myself.
Starting point is 01:25:23 A little, a little exploration to find a tape on bank camp. Yes, is what you found? I found it, but you know what? I thought it was a new release. This thing's from 2020. 2020 is not a new release, no, it's not a new release at all. And the style of it, though, is very up my alley. It's kind of like a chip tune, like, NES,
Starting point is 01:25:44 Castlevania, but like heavy metal style. Yeah, I was going to say that seems like a good, the artwork, this mixture of like, you know, it's got like the, what's the Metallica album with the snake on the black on black? Yeah, it's just called the Black Album. S&M? Yeah. S&M.
Starting point is 01:25:59 S&M. So it's the Vegovizier. It's an Icelandic magical stave symbolizing guidance protection and a way to never get lost in storms or unfamiliar territories. Oh, wow. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:26:11 Good job. And what's, there's more like black and box. Oh, wow, there's a bunch here. On the spine, did you notice there's more on the spine? No, I didn't. Like, it says some more words
Starting point is 01:26:21 underneath internet protocol. Master Boot Records, the artist. Okay. And then all the track titles are on the backflat. Yeah, and the track titles are all like internet uh another good printing on the thing
Starting point is 01:26:33 do we talk about that oh oh a black and white black and white there you go the shell is half black half white is half black half white and the imprinting is also it's black on white white white on black so this is like some sort of digital paganism okay yeah it is it is digital I'll give you that
Starting point is 01:26:48 I'm confused how this goes in with your other two that you picked uh just the DOS type stuff yeah but that's that yeah the kind of the pixelated throwback to like old technology
Starting point is 01:27:02 with new stuff so I think you have to announce your theme your theme today is a throwback no it's he never has to know we dissect it and we figure it out it's like taro
Starting point is 01:27:11 okay all right okay thanks Joe this is was put out on a French label called you gotta spell it out data airlines I know but I don't get it that's the thing is I don't get it yeah sometimes I watch movies
Starting point is 01:27:22 I don't get them me too Robocop I don't get it is he a robot Is it a robot or a cop? Is he a robot or a cop? I don't fucking get it.
Starting point is 01:27:36 All right. What's the nubs situation on this tape, Joe? Standard, I already looked. Standard, okay. Yeah. Yeah, that's pretty much all I got to say. It's basically like Ninja Guidon or Castlevania. It's like fast NES type music, but like a little bit more modern and more speed-metallie type sounding.
Starting point is 01:27:52 I sent you that tape to see if we played it before a couple weeks ago, that Krypton Nim tape. You said we did play it like a long time ago. But it was, like, midi black metal. Oh, nice. It had, like, blast beats and stuff? Yeah, but they were, like, all midi, like, digital. But then the guitars were real, though. Oh, that's cool.
Starting point is 01:28:09 With vocals. I was really good. Yeah. All right, so I'll play this Indec tape, Yope Plus. Indec, Ohio artist. Jeremy Bible. I'm not really sure. So the tracks are Yop, Akin, Sund, Fink, and Ixis.
Starting point is 01:28:28 and side A are different mixes of those songs And side B is also different mixes Of a bunch of those songs Oh so this is all really Because you remember black unicorn? They lived in Philly Yeah, oh yeah There's a black unicorn mix on here Nice
Starting point is 01:28:44 So are these all remixes? Or is it like side A is the tracks And side B is a remixes? No, no, no, it says what song it is And then like side A is Yope, status expunged mix Uh, sunned, renegade Android mix icy reels mix R6 implant mix
Starting point is 01:29:01 So these are different people mixing Index tracks Okay Is there any of It just comes in an O-card here There's no insert or anything Unless it fell out
Starting point is 01:29:12 Oh god That's the thing you have to worry about With the O-card Is that the insert's just gonna fall out I'm always worried about these things Getting wet You put these down and they're yeah Yeah it's ruined
Starting point is 01:29:21 You know how much stuff I spill all the time You don't even have to spill it You just have to have a glass Like sweating on the table them. And also, this is O-Card. Look at the loose as this is. I'll put my microphone over to the table so you can hear this. I'm just going to loosely hold the O-Card. The tape falls right out. That's why it needs nubs. You need nubs in the O-Card. In the O-Card. I wonder if there's ever been an O-Card nub. They're kind of like a pop, you know, a pop-up book? Yeah. So they like, they pop up to take it out and then they pop back in. It's like you can only, they only, I think they kind of only go one way and they spring back up. Oh, it's like one of those traps or something. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:30:01 I don't know if I can say Chinese finger trap anymore. But a finger trap. Yeah. It's like a finger trap. Yeah. Yeah. I think we can work on that. You definitely need something, a belt on it or something, because that thing ain't snug. Well, not a belt this way, but a belt that way. You know what happened
Starting point is 01:30:16 is that tape just lost a few pounds. Well, it's old O-Card doesn't fit it anymore. That's fine. It's like, it's got to be like shared from subway. With the skin. With the loose skin. You might need to take this in for surgery, a little corrective surgery. I can take this my tailor.
Starting point is 01:30:32 Put a heat gun up to it. Maybe you can shrink it a little bit. All right, I'll get my tools later. Okay, so you're going to play what mix from this? I don't know, just put it in. Let's see what the first one is. Well, it's the Yip-YAPE mix. Interesting.
Starting point is 01:30:48 Yope? Yope. Yope is the name of a... Yop is the track, and then it's status expunged mix. Remixing the track. yope yope from Indeck
Starting point is 01:30:58 Yop plus What was the first artist he played Yode or something like that He played Vode or something Vode
Starting point is 01:31:06 Yeah Oh wow That's a theme That's interesting We didn't even plan that Stuff to dissect later Yeah Four letters
Starting point is 01:31:12 This is for the heads Yeah Speaking of the heads I got something To end this one with So if you notice I did play a few Noise tapes tonight
Starting point is 01:31:20 You did I played a few noise tapes You took us back I took a few back That is Electrononsense I got a new one here on Strategic Tape Reserve. I think this is a very important piece.
Starting point is 01:31:32 A lot of people into music these days, huh? This is Dr. Peter J. Woods from the Learning by Listening Volume 9. Hello, computer. Tape. And it's called Learning to Make Noise Towards a Process Model of Artistic Practice Within Experimental Music Scenes. You fair, jazz.
Starting point is 01:31:52 So, Jamie, you know without this tape. I don't think you know about it, Joe. we know we know you talk to me about it we know peter j woods who uh doctor please he earned that regular dentist music is my daughter that's the problem is you don't you have a thing against respect for elders and people uh who have you know paid their dude well it's like if you're a doctor it's like okay then okay then my leg hurts will you fix it and they say well not that kind of doctor i do but doctor i read books yeah i'm a doctor of poems and it's like no no fix i got this really bad my toenails grow back into my body and i can't figure out why
Starting point is 01:32:26 Fix it. Give me some kind of ointment. Volume 9. What are the other volumes? Oh, they're up there on the show. Learning by listening? Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:32:34 Can you grab one and tell it? Because I don't remember. Let's see how quickly you can do this. He's pointed out of the wrong spot. I can tell he's pointed in the wrong spot. There's a big strategic tape reserve coaster up there, Jamie. That's with all the tapes. Do you see any of the learning by listening?
Starting point is 01:32:51 I see two of them from here. My eyesight is just grab one and tell me who it is. Shapes for experts. Okay, actually hand it to me. So that one tells you about shapes. You can learn about shapes. I want to know who's doing it. Okay.
Starting point is 01:33:02 Mike. Stop rubbing the microphone with your body. Is that what that was? I want it. I take it, man. And I'm sweating so much that I feel like I got a nice little resonance on that foam microphone. Shaves for Experts presented by the Center for Understanding New Trigonometries. We might have played that on the show, too.
Starting point is 01:33:22 I'm sure we have. I'm sure we have. Interesting. But this one is, so Dr. Peter J. Woods had an article on how to make, how to basically be, as he calls it on the tape, like a professional contact micist. A real noise artist, someone who can discover this noise and then learn what it is and then put it into practice and perform in front of people professionally. In your everyday life. In your everyday life. But he realized a little flow. with the article is that while you can read the article, you can't hear anything. There's important things you need to actually hear. So that's why you have to listen to the tape. You have to also listen. If you want to truly learn how to be... You can't just read it. You can't just read it. So there is a
Starting point is 01:34:11 paper, that's what you told me. He has a published peer-reviewed journal. Yes. Well, I don't know if it got peer-reviewed. He may have snuck it in it. Okay. But it's in some sort of quarterly journal, like a... It's probably some fucking filthy rags. one of those some liberal art rag it's probably more of like a magazine yeah he's probably got like or like a deer penthouse it's probably something like that okay so you have to miss connections he posted on craigslist and if you're going to tell me that's not peer reviewed yeah then what is then what is all right you have to there's there's an intro on this tape i'm not going to play that part i'm going to get like a little bit more into it but there's an intro where he explains it
Starting point is 01:34:54 a little bit. He gives you a very, like, I would say Nathan Fielder-esque. Birds-eye view. A bird's-eye view to the whole thing. It's very funny. I recommend any... I'm not going to try to do it any... You couldn't do it justice. Well, you don't have the degree.
Starting point is 01:35:10 I don't have to... I've never been... Well, you guys are my only peers, and you refuse to review me. You wouldn't like what you're here. And I'm like...
