I like it a lot. As a project name or just in general? Yeah, why not? He makes all his own gear, right? I like High School Confidential better.

That's his thing, right? He makes all the gear for Telecall Powers. Huge setups. Yeah, which is a hard thing to do. I've dabbled myself. Because he does modular synths and stuff, right? Yeah, yeah.

There's probably just an MP3 player in a big box. Yeah, that's all that is. Just an iPod with some tracks on it? Yeah, probably. Nice. Some slowed down Tangerine Dream tracks. Jumping screwed. That's probably what he's getting at.

Alright. I got a jam here. I pulled this one off the shelf. I haven't listened to this in a while. I got this a while ago. 2005 or something like that? Yeah while ago like what 2005 or something yeah i would say 2005 or so it's a double tape it's a split between uh door and another dude who i think was also from new jersey called the scientific explanation of despair who for a bit there

he was he was around for a little bit for a bit there there was like a ton of shit coming out he was constantly putting out stuff. And it's always like, you know, everything's always covered in spray paint. Which I'm kind of getting fed up with, by the way. Because I've been getting a lot of tapes of spray paint on them, and they're not playing. Well, they're not playing.

No, they're not playing at all. And I have something on Pizza Night that I kept... And now... It's a tape on Pizza Night. I kept and now it's a tape on Pizza Night. I forget what it is. But I remember when I got it, it didn't play. And I was like, I gotta get in touch and get another copy of it. But now it's just in with

all the other tapes. I can't remember which one it is. Who's got the time? Who has the time? I hate that shit, man. I got a tape in the mail to get reviewed once. It was spray painted. First of all, the guy was like, here's my tape.

The B-side's not that great, but I think the A-side's alright. Spray paint was stuck to the leader in the tape, so the tape just wouldn't move. It's just like, why would you send me... You don't have to send me a tape right now. You can wait until you have something that you actually like before you send it out. No had to send it right you had to get it out you

don't know what's going on in his life personally yeah maybe you had to just ship it out yeah let the people decide this tape comes in like a a fabric pouch that's sewn up everything's covered in spray paint there's a little piece of paper on the inside that lets you know it's not really an A and B side as much as a what's it, Argyle side? Bubble side? Maybe Brown Bear I think is one of the sides. Oh, it says Bubble Side written here in Sharpie.

Solo Black metal like shitty low fly Oh shit he told me he was doing some black metal stuff i mean shitty in a good way nice yeah he was doing he said he did like live drums and everything for that at least when he started out i don't know he did he explained to me the whole system i can't exactly remember what it is but i think it's just a snare but then layered a couple different ways but uh it's pretty good nice it actually looks pretty nice for um a tape that comes in a poly case which i don't particularly enjoy yeah i don't enjoy the poly cases got a little transparency you know for the cover and then a piece of purple paper behind it that's like the insert and uh purple tape

yeah it looks really nice he had another one that he gave me recently. It was like Twin Lakes themed. Or Twin Lakes. Twin Peaks themed. And it was like, you know, it had like the floor, the black lodge. Oh, the zigzag of the black lodge. Yeah, like a red tape. What was that called?

I don't know what that, you know what, off the top of my head. I think that was a dark hair tape. Oh, you know what? I think you're right. And it had like a German title. They all have German titles with that guy. You put that together with his haircut, you really got to wonder.

I bet he went to record it and pressed record on the A-side it has to be right but why would you ever do that you know what i bet happened i bet like he went to record it and like pressed record on the a-side but like something happened and like it didn't record so he just flipped the tape over every single time you think they're all well we don't know we don't know we only have this one to go by dave why are you jumping in

The tape version of that. Yeah, it's a tape version of that. I would say my only complaint is that it's all black and white and a little grainy. I'd like to see some color in it. No, I like it because it's almost like a bluish gray. Yeah. You know, it's gray, but when you look at it, your eye makes a color. I think you might want to get those glasses checked out.

This is a tape by some dudes, supposedly some dudes, who play under the name Dog Box, which I'm going to throw this out there.

I don't think they're real people. And here's what... I think that Dog Box is actually Matt Raidman from Breathman Records. Newton. You think it's all a lie? I think it's all a lie i think it's all a lie there's this elaborate story about like how i think him going into a store like a 7-eleven and there was like two like metal heads there who like somehow were like he was wearing like a like somebody was wearing like a merge bow shirt and they got talking about noise and then he went

they worked at the 7-eleven that's That's what it was. They worked there. And like their return address is like a 7-Eleven. And like when. I put out a dog box tape. I got a message in the mail. I don't think it's real people. But I think. You think it's Newton. I think it's Newton.

I think it's him and maybe somebody else. And they. I just pulled up a flyer for a show. They don't even use the label. They just use the throwaway part. What do you think they're doing with the label? Throwing it away. No, they put the label on one tape, and then they put the band-Aid on another one. I mean, if they do a run of 50 tapes, 25 have the label, and 25 have the Band-Aid.

Oh, so they can save on... Yeah, so they can save, what is that, 85, 95 cents? Awful. Well, you throw in the ink, the toner. Oh, the toner is expensive. I like how the catalog numbers, it looks like it's just typed on a typewriter on the inside of the spine. Yeah, like on the back of the spine.

I feel like all the Scumbag Relation tapes are like that. I don't have many, but I think they're all like that. Maybe we'll call up Matt while this is playing and find out if it's him or not. You know what? I think we're going to do that. I think we're going to call him up because I want to hear his voice, the subtleties in his voice when he says yes.

It's all about the cues. There's a sweet SUV on the cover. It might be a screen capture from Dr. Katz or something. That does look like Squiggle Vision. That's Squiggle Vision. That is pretty nice.

screen printed right yeah sure this isn't the j card isn't screen printed but no equally nice dave i think he probably got that printed at your work i was saying what yeah he did you were saying that you don't like listen to peasant magic tapes because these little vellum bands he puts around them. Yeah, I'm lazy. Well, it's a pain in the ass. It's a whole other extra step. It's equally as hard getting it back on. Yeah, it's like when you're trying to get one of the paper sleeves inside a record.

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. How much of a pain in the ass. It's almost that bad. Yeah, I agree. It's probably going to be one of those things where he looks back at his life and wonders how much time he wasted. Now, let me ask you guys this. His little logo. That's a cow.

we'll talk about that later but then once it was explained to me I it made sense okay so when he asked a black new tape it is peasant magic 105 105 105 might not come out until after 120 it was like some big like secret code thing you know you know what about to write them all down and like what are you trying to do he's Charlie he's into science and math so maybe some kind of like physics problem i think he's a poser though you know one well that's yeah that's we don't need to debate that you know one problem i have uh with peasant magic is when he did when when he put out that box set like that five cd box set the one about cats yeah but it didn't have a name i didn't get it i didn't get that i either. If I did, I wouldn't listen to it.

that's good it's very descriptive you know what you're getting you know what you're getting two hands on knobs this is a c30 uh It's called Survival. It came out last year. 2011. Didn't that dude start another label? Jason Anderson, I'm not sure. There's another, like a sub-label or something like that. I'll have to

Google that. This is awesome artwork, though. I like this. Yeah, it's a good-looking tape. Art by Brenna Murphy. Brenna Murphy did some awesome artwork for this tape. It looks really cool. That seems like a... Oh, that's a nice stock right there.

Scored and everything. I always find it odd when, like, you get a cassette tape and the J card is, like, scored instead of just, like, hand folded. Because, like, how many of these were even, like, made? You know? Like, how many copies of this exist that, like... Actually, it says right there. 200, I think.

That's a lot. 200. I like their numbering system. They have, like, the little circle there, and then they write it on the inside. It's like a pea-sized little circle. And they handwrite what number it is. This is number 115 out of 200. That is tiny in there.

You're getting carpal tunnel syndrome numbering those things. It's really small. 200 seems like a lot. Yeah. I do like this artwork a lot. It's almost like on the inside, it's like an alien language. Yeah, that's what you're saying. Going on with these little...

There's some chevrons in there. Little gifs. Yeah. Glyphs? I think it's a glyph. Like a high-rope glyph. Not a gif. Yeah, I think you're right.

Yeah. Yeah, this is pretty cool stuff, though. Kind of beady, kind of video game-esque in ways oh um i know nothing about this quite as uh like not really like necessarily like a bitty sounding but you know it sounds like something it could be like a backdrop for a video game you let me just throw this in there at any point in first put it on the a side i got it queued up on the a side. it works for certain aesthetics i mean if the whole like aesthetic is like you know junky you know like right but don't do it don't do a cover that nice right right and give me a label it's a weird juxtaposition i just can't my brain can't deal with that yet a little too post-modern a little too post-modern throw a label or something over top of the uh yeah you know don't keep like the the original i got the track listing from the life beats tape here how am i supposed to live love shouldn't love should have brought you home how do i live without you a lot of love stuff going on because i think the tape is called celebrate love celebrate it looks like it is i'd like to play a code off that this is it may it may cut in this is some

really nice paper though it's like reflective gold like a thick stock and yeah it's like black ink yeah he used a lot of those towards the end of Excitebike. There was like an Uneven Universe tape that was on that same kind of stock. And I feel like some of the other tapes in this batch were also used that.

But yeah, Egg Sack is the Tiger Hatchery dudes and Dan. I'm not sure if it's like a male collab or if they were like together and jamming. But that I can't tell you. Let's check it out.
