Starting point is 00:00:01 Hello and welcome to talking baseball. More of the baseball happened. The whole weekend was full of it. Let's do it. Talk about it. Timing's off. Hello and welcome to talking baseball. Thank you very much for joining us today.
Starting point is 00:00:29 My name's Jimmy. Over there is Jake, BBD, in the corner. They're in the Roosevelt Studios. I'm in my apartment. We are going to talk some baseball. Jake, how you doing? James, I'm doing well, man. I'm doing well.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Baseball is killing it. The sports world is just absolutely nuts right now. Don't, don't you dare bring up. I did it. I didn't say. I just said sports. You see you admit yourself. And yeah, man, baseball's trucking along.
Starting point is 00:01:05 And, dude, there's some new storylines arose over the weekend. Our yanks are back. The Padre. nipping at the heels of the Dodgers a little bit. Couple sweeps in the central, my Marlins! Pardiers are the best team ever. Yeah, I'm interested to see. I think it's either the Padres are the best team ever
Starting point is 00:01:28 and they're going to show up, or the Dodgers might go full Big Brother mode this series, which would be a lot of fun. Is that the upcoming matchup? Yeah, they're playing. They start today three games set in San Diego, so excited for that. I mean, the Padres have won 20 of their last 24 games. Since the incident, man.
Starting point is 00:01:49 The Rangers died and the Padres took off. I mean, we'll talk about it. I'll talk about it, cleft shoved. I mean, the Padres are the best team ever. Just be careful with that because the big bro Dodgers. I mean, you saw their fans rally up this weekend. In the history of baseball. Okay.
Starting point is 00:02:10 The Padres are the best team ever. Okay, here we go. Savannah Banana. How are you doing? You're playing a little hurt today. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm sick. Under the weather. I'm a pretty tough guy, you know? Oh, big time.
Starting point is 00:02:26 And usually I can shake off any type of sickness. Sure. I don't easily succumb to being sick. Sure. Last night, after we recorded and I went home. Yeah. It's the sickest I've ever been. Mm.
Starting point is 00:02:41 It was pathetic. Okay. Just me and Mac, my dog. Yeah. I was like, I was like banging him. Like, please be nice to me. Yeah. I can't deal with you if you're going to be an asshole.
Starting point is 00:02:53 Right. I'm super sick. He figured it out. Dogs, no. I mean, not really. Yeah. But it's all right. Still nice.
Starting point is 00:03:04 He was, it was nice. Nice to have a company. I hate the city. That's an update. Oh, okay. I'm overliving in the city. Done. I tried to trick myself into thinking,
Starting point is 00:03:14 I enjoyed living in the city for like five months. Sure. Logan's playing a big part. Right. Quarantine played a big part. No fresh air, man. Yeah. You can't even see more than like 20 feet ahead of you.
Starting point is 00:03:27 Oh, interesting. Yeah. I need space. All right. I'm like Christian bail and newsies. That's what people are saying. People have been saying that for a long time. People have been saying that for a long time.
Starting point is 00:03:42 You want to give the East Coast update? Well, first let me tell you. who's bringing you this episode. Evan Flesig, Stellar Bim, Jeremy Olson, Ryan, Johnny Sloan,
Starting point is 00:03:57 and Spencer Hill. Those are our most recent Patreon members, our most recent patrons. They can watch live in the chat. We do have Norm, Andy, Davoski,
Starting point is 00:04:09 Josh. Fleishig's a regular. Fly Shigs are regular. Yeah. I must have re-up or something. Yeah. Well, how are you? Do you want to do the East Coast?
Starting point is 00:04:24 I'm good, yeah. I think we got to, we'll start doing the baseball. All right. One, two, three. James, you know I'm an AL gal, so I'm going to start with the American League teams. The Baltimore Orioles went to New York to take on the Yankees, the battle for third place in the ALEs. And speaking of Big Brother mode, the Yanks put it on. Garrett Cole, with arguably his best performance as a Yankee,
Starting point is 00:04:55 shuts him out in a seven-inning game. They follow that up after winning the first. And Voight hits two, three-run, home runs. He is a monster. They sweep the double header. They come back Saturday, and they win an ugly game, two to one in the 10th. It was good pitching by Monta and Dean Kramer, the rookie Kramer.
Starting point is 00:05:18 And then in the finale for the four-game sweep, Glaver Torres with the pinch hit RBI double. Yanks sweep all four games. They are back, baby. Down in Tampa, the Bastin Red Sox. Oh, my God. They split with the race. Game one, Bobby Dalbeck, the rookie.
Starting point is 00:05:38 Five straight games with the Homa. The Penn holds up for Boston. You don't hear that a lot. Tampa Bay takes the middle two games. Nate Lowe, not Brandon Lowe. Nate Lowe, Susugo Snell owns the Red Sox. He's a raise down to 3-2-3. And then Meadows in Lowe, the next game, they homer.
Starting point is 00:05:57 Glassnow was good, had his day ruined in his final inning. But Boston takes the bookends. Perez does enough, and they score two in the fifth and the six. How about that? Boston and the Ray's slip. Ray's slipping a little bit. Mets at the J's. Mets win to Gromde, 18 to 1. Confordo Smith and Ramos all with four ribby.
Starting point is 00:06:18 days. Rob Ray has a nice start for the Jays. I wonder if that's becoming a conversation. Every Blue Jays starter at a hit and then Ryu out duels Peterson. Jays take two out of three from the Mets. Atlanta and the Nationals, they play for ATL. Nats were up 5-0, but Freddie Freeman, two homers, and then Dansby goes Yardsky for the lead in the 8th. And then the next day, the Nats went in 12. Holy smokes. They were up 5-0 again. The Braves tied it, but the Nats pulled it off. Your Michael Taylor, John Boy. And then the Braves take the final two.
Starting point is 00:06:54 Ian Anderson drop stick. And then Duval and Albies both hit two runs, Homer off Shurser to go from down to up to. How about them Braves? And then Philly and Miami, Jim, we're in game six of the seven gamer. They're wrapping up tonight. But so far, the Marlins have taken four of the games. Starling Marte has been bawling out. Jorge Alfaro, who was traded for Real Mudo, the catcher that came over in that trade.
Starting point is 00:07:22 He's played really well against the Phil's. Nola had a shutout in seven. Sixto Sanchez had a complete game in seven. So Miami currently up four to two in the seven game set. They'll play the nightcap tonight. And Jim, that's what's going on in the east. Thank you, Jake. No problem.
Starting point is 00:07:42 Are the Marlins now 500, or am I behind? I think they're above 500. They are second in the east, and they have a record of 23 and 21. Oh, so the website that I've been using for standings is behind, so I can't use that anymore. Okay. Well, I'll help you up. The Braves are still in first, three and a half up on the fish. The Marlins are a half game up on the Phil, so they play tonight, so that can flip-flop very easily. The Mets, man, just nightmare. 21 and 26. What are you guys doing in the Nats 17 and 28 in the AL East?
Starting point is 00:08:23 The race 30 and 17, 3 and a half up on the Blue Jays. Yankees are a half game back behind them. They've got a big three-gamer starting tomorrow. Orioles drop back there 20 and 26 and the Red Sox bringing up the rear. The Mets are out, right? I mean, again, it goes into the NL. nobody's really out and if you win a series. But as of right now, it's ugly.
Starting point is 00:08:48 I mean, they have to get hot. They have to get hot. Man, I wish that website wasn't so delayed. I love the way they set out the wild card. It's easier to figure it out. I'm sorry. So what would the matchups be right now? I mean, the Yankees are still in third place.
Starting point is 00:09:05 So in the AL, right now the best team in the American League is the Chicago White Sox. So they are currently the one. The rays are the two and the A's are the three. That makes the twins the four. The Blue Jays are currently the five, the Astros, the sixth. And then the seven would be the Indians. Oh, the Indians and Yankees are tied for the eight, seven hole right now. So that's the AL side of things.
Starting point is 00:09:39 What are the tiebreakers? I guess that's something that we've got to look into. Yeah. BPD is interested BBD's interested So MLB.com put up a thing that shows the good standing says which I was going to send you
Starting point is 00:09:55 but now I can just tell you and it says at the bottom currently the Yankees hold the tiebreaker over Cleveland for the seven seed by virtue of a better intra-division record their 17 and 13 against the ALEs Cleveland is 16 and 16 against the AL Central How about that?
Starting point is 00:10:11 Wow and I found out MLB.com slash standing postseason they made a cat that actually shows it now. So they got on time. Well, that's interesting. The Intra Squad record.
Starting point is 00:10:23 That's kind of bizarre. Is the Astros the only lock? Like, they will be the sixth seed? More or less. I mean, last episode, Jim, we did our Mariners theory. Mariners are a game and a half back. So it'd have to get a little nutty.
Starting point is 00:10:39 But hey, 2020, 2020, L.O.L. Mariners. Oakland, Giant. They play each other in a three-game set. Yeah, baby. Make those games matter. That'll be fun. Yeah, so, I mean, I think the biggest thing outside of Seattle,
Starting point is 00:10:58 potentially chasing down the Astros, the eight teams have kind of been set. Eight and a half, I'll include you now for now, Mariners. But yeah, it's just, it's going to be such a shuffle. The Yankees are hot. Are they going to catch the Jays? The AL Central feels like it flip-flops every week. And then, I mean, the top.
Starting point is 00:11:14 three teams, A's raise, and then whoever's in the Central, those records are changing daily. So, I mean, that, that's going to be kind of a random jumble until the last day. Yeah. The A. The A.L. set, though. I mean, it's going to be fun. Big series between the Yankees and Toronto. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:34 Do you want to be the five or do you want to be the seven? I mean, that's the thing. It's just too hard to tell. I mean, the four seed is going to be the second best team in the AL Central, which again, that changes every week. And then the two seed could either be the best team in the Central, the Rays, or the A's. So you're playing a little Russian roulette.
Starting point is 00:11:55 I think it's shrug and you've got to play. Yeah. And I think we will see that for the last week of the season. It's just going to be teams lining up their playoff three. And I forgot that Oakland's going to punt their last couple games against the Mariners. Right. So that Houston can't get in. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:12:14 I forgot all about that. No, I saw some Mets fans being like, we're in a, you know, a 15 game stretch fighting for a playoff spot. Yeah. I'm not trying to be rude. I was taken back. I was like, wait, what?
Starting point is 00:12:29 I mean, I'll say it like this, Jim, and you know, I'll be rude if I have to. The Mets aren't making the postseason. Jim, if you can get to 500 in the NL, there's a good chance you could get the eight spot. And the Mets would have to go nine and four, which isn't unrealistic. You got to get hot.
Starting point is 00:12:49 But, I mean, there's four teams in the National League that are giving themselves that same speech, so. Have the Mets gone nine and four at any point this season? No, but that's baseball, baby. Yeah, I mean, they got three against Philly who are going to be pissed
Starting point is 00:13:05 about Miami, then the Braves, then the Rays, then the Nats. So they haven't gone nine and four at any point this season. Like, there's no way the Mets may make the post-season. You got to believe, Jim. Yeah, I'll never knock it. Mets fans for believing in the team, but they set themselves up for sadness.
Starting point is 00:13:24 Just accept it now. Thanks for listening, Mets fans. Should be a lot better. I don't know why. I don't know what happens. I mean, they lost a lot, man. I mean, Cindergarten, Stroman, that probably makes this team from 21, 21 and 26 to 26 and 21, which would have them. Injuries happen.
Starting point is 00:13:44 Yeah, their pitchings are. But their bats are still good. Yeah. It's a pitching game. The Yankees have found that out. Their pitching turned it on, and that's really what's flipped things for them recently. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:57 So what happened with Toronto? That's the team. I just want to give them a couple seconds before we move on to the Central. So they played the Mets who went on DeGromde, 18 to 1. And then I think they won a one-run game, and then the final set. So what happened a lot this week, Jim, was the good teams won series. Like the Braves ended up going from a split to a win because of one game. The Jays.
Starting point is 00:14:23 I know the Cubbies coming up. The good teams found a way to win their series this weekend. Hot takes. Hot takes. I mean, the Blue Jays have been winning series, which is good for them. Were you at a nice start? Yeah. Looks good.
Starting point is 00:14:41 On the final day. Outdouled Peterson for the Mets. Ooh, big matchup coming up Toronto. And then the seven game set. Miami is handling it pretty well. That's pretty cool. Yeah, I mean, they technically won the seven game set. They could really twist the knife tonight or, I mean, it's kind of likely Philly could win. And then they went four and three and Philly's up a half game again. If the, if the Phillies win tonight, I think both teams
Starting point is 00:15:07 walk away like cool. Yeah. Yeah. Like I don't think the Phillies consider the whole thing a loss. It's a crazy stretch of games. If they win today and they take three of the seven, I mean, it's two double headers. It's crazy stretch of baseball. It's a lot of baseball. You just want to survive. Just survive. As long as you survive and win three, I think either team going in would have been like, whatever. Great. I think the Marlins do have the pitching matchup. They'd prefer tonight. I think it's Lopez and Velasquez, but it's baseball. Lopez and Velasquez. Pablo Velasquez and Vince Lopez. Reverse their names. A little trick.
Starting point is 00:15:48 There you go. A little trick for the people. Let's go to the Central. Start us off, Jake. I'll finish it up. Okay. I will start us off. Jim, this one's going to be quick.
Starting point is 00:15:58 Pit went to Kansas City. The Royal swept. Hey, good for you, Royals. Boobitch gets his first MLB win. Adelberto Montesee, Jim. I got some facts on him in a second. And then your guy Keller goes complete game shuddy for the sweep. Good for you, Royals.
Starting point is 00:16:16 White Sox. Tigers, I think we can finally sleep on the Tigers. The White Sox sweep them. 4-3, 14-0-5-2. Eloy with the big series. Jose Ibrahimu with the two home-run day. And then Rodrigo Lopez. He had a nice start, and I think he was stepping in for Keikle,
Starting point is 00:16:35 who went on the aisle with the back stuff. So White Sox continue rolling. And then the Cubbies versus Mila-Wa-K. Woodruff, holy smoke. Seven innings pitch, 12-K. was getting excited for my brewers, but they prove again to not really be a good team. The Cubbies, Jim, this game was awesome. Two-nothing Brewers in the ninth, Jason Hayward, Clips Hader, for a three-run, home run.
Starting point is 00:17:05 So Cubs take the second game, and then you might have heard about this. Alec Mills had a pretty nice performance in the third game. Cubs win that one, 12-0, they take the series. What else happened in the Central, Jim? Cleveland and Minnesota squared off for a three-game set. And Minnesota swept Cleveland. Cleveland's now lost like six in a row. Maeda out-duled Bieber in the first game,
Starting point is 00:17:29 which is kind of awesome of your twins fan. Buxton and Ryan Jeffers, the usual suspects homered off of Bebes. Pretty crazy. In games two, Buckson hit another home run along with Marwin. How do you say this guy's name? Astadillo. Astadio, yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:49 Rosario and Sinoe, so the twins are hitting home runs like crazy. In game three, Chiston McKenzie had a poor start. Cruz, Marwin, Jady, and Jeffers go deep. How many home runs is that? They hit like 10 home runs in the three games. Damn, yeah. Cincinnati and St. Louis had a three-game setting. Guess what?
Starting point is 00:18:06 The Reds won a series, Jake. They did it. Luis Castillo goes nine innings pitch, two hits, one earned run. Absolutely fantastic outing from him. Votto hit a two-run homer, and that was all they would need. In game two, St. Louis, one, they had three home runs in the fifth inning to score five off Carpenter. Carpenter, Bader, and Goldie hit the home runs. And then in the rubber match, I would have bet the house on St. Louis.
Starting point is 00:18:35 But since he wins, every cardinal pitcher, all seven of them in game three, gave up an earned run or more. So that's bad. Not good. That's it. That's it. So, I mean, we don't care about the Royals that much. But if you're a Royals fan, they lost seven in a row. Now they've won six in a row.
Starting point is 00:18:56 Yeah. Keep that energy going into next year. A young team, you know, at least like show some fight and heart and stuff like that. And I guess that's all we really say. Yeah, I was debating. And I actually, I think I did put him on Enfuego late, Jim. Adelberto Mondesie, three straight games with a home run in a stolen base, Only one of now two people to do that since 1904.
Starting point is 00:19:19 You know who the other was? Dieter. Your guy, Bobby Abraeu. Really? Yeah. That's cool. So Bobby Abraeu and Alberto Monasey have their own plateau in Major League Baseball. That's awesome.
Starting point is 00:19:38 I think he is on Enfuego. The Indians have now lost six in a row. Yeah, man. How about that? We were getting so excited. They're pitching keeps you in every game. And then they messed with the bulls and got the horns a little bit, huh? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:55 It's a tough sport, man. I think every good team this year besides the Dodgers has had a rough patch. I think so. I think so. Dude, how about the Cubs doing that to the Brewers? It's so rude. Brewers are a couple outs away. How close was, how many outs do they have in the ninth inning when Hayward hit that
Starting point is 00:20:13 I'll bring it up, but devastating. Brewers fans, no, but Brewers players, you're a hater close away from winning the first two games and winning the series. And then Hayward hits that home run. And then you get no hit the next day. Like what, what a reversal of moods. It's like a seasonender. That's such a, that's such a dagger that you're right. It may be a seasonender.
Starting point is 00:20:41 Like they may not be able to recover from that. that one-two punch. So Schwarber struck out bunting foul for the first out against Hader. Yikes. Havi Bunt. Yeah. Does that mean he tried to bunt? He didn't try to bunt until he got two strikes on him and then was trying to beat the shift?
Starting point is 00:20:59 I believe so, James. Did he try to bunt the first and second pitch? And they still didn't shift on him? I doubt it. I'm guessing he tried to surprise them. With two strikes? It's baseball, baby. If you put it down, you look like a genius.
Starting point is 00:21:13 but you also look like it. You look like a casserole if you don't. Havi, buy a single, Rizzo single with two strikes, and then Hayward gets them. One two count. Yeah. That's a season ender. Hater gets clipped.
Starting point is 00:21:32 You get no hit the next day. It's as brutal. I got a one-two punch you can get. Johnny Sloan in the patron chat, and it's his first time here. He says, Cubs are 21 and 15 against the central. so far. But I don't think that's a bragging point.
Starting point is 00:21:50 Because what's their record against the AL then? I mean, then it's 500 or losing? I don't know. Let's see. The Cubs are 28 and 20. So that means they've won seven. They're seven and five. Sure. That's not terrible then. Good job, Cubs. The N. Central's so bad, though. Yeah. Well, the Dodgers have the one seed, Braves have the two seed. Cubs have the three. Padres, I guess we'll just stick with central teams. Cubs are in first place.
Starting point is 00:22:26 They have the third seed, and the Cardinals are in second place, and they have the sixth seed, and there's only two teams coming out of the central, right? Yeah, unless someone gets hot for this last week and a half. I mean, technically the Brewers and Reds are in a striking distance, but they'd have to get hot. The Brewers, man, that sucks. I mean, right now the Giants,
Starting point is 00:22:50 the Giants are the eight hole and they're a game under 500 the Phillies are the seven hole they're a game above 500 so hey it's kind of the race to 30 we've been doing the race to 20 for the home runs with Roosevelt's but for the National League playoffs it's the race to 30
Starting point is 00:23:06 I got something for you tell me baby the Brewers have a double header today and a double header Wednesday so they play five games in three days is this their Cardinals series yeah God win that hater game Brewers.
Starting point is 00:23:22 If they walk, I mean, they're walking into their wounded, as wounded as you can get. It might be the best recipe that they get to play so much baseball that they have to forget about it. Or it may, you know, if they lose both these games in this first double header, if they lose the first two games this double header, the Brewers are season's all over. Yeah. Like over, over. Win the hater game.
Starting point is 00:23:43 That stinks. Damn. Cardinals are hilarious to me. they just keep on staying right around 500 and they're golden. It's kind of what we said about the Miami Phillies. Like they play so many doubleheaders. Yeah. They're just trying to survive.
Starting point is 00:24:05 Yeah. I mean, they have a double header on the 14th, double header on the 16th, double header on the 18th. And then they're done. They're done after that. But I mean,
Starting point is 00:24:15 that's three double headers this week. Yeah. That'll work your, pitching staff. So they just want to stay 500. And it's working for him. I wonder, I mean, Cardinals fans reach out. Have they been doing straight punt days? Like if they win game one, are they just resting people? And I would guess that's the strategy there. I'd assume so too. And I think, dude, something they have going for them is Wayno. Every time he pitches, he's got like 115 bullets in the tank. So I think if you throw him game one of a doubleheader, you're
Starting point is 00:24:50 almost just one game. Yeah. They've already had three doubleheaders in September, and they have three more. Buckle up. Big week for the Cardinals. Stay 500. You're good. In the AL Central, I mean, Cleveland drops down to third,
Starting point is 00:25:11 but they're still in the postseason. Twin sweep. Now they're only a game out of first place, so that's still got a lot of mixing and matching to happen. And the White Sox just looks so good. And White Sox and twins are playing, Jim. So that's going to be kind of must watch. What are the Probables? White Sox, probable starters.
Starting point is 00:25:33 Can't believe I didn't have this window up. I feel like an idiot. Burritos versus Cece, Dobnack versus Dunning. Dunning's been good. And that Tibid versus Lucas Gialito. Gellito. And it's a four gamer. And my eight is lined up for the fourth.
Starting point is 00:25:50 So, yeah, this is one of those sneaky. I think both teams are fine, splitting low-key, but whoever gets three is feeling really good about themselves. Yeah, that's crazy. All right. Moving on to the West. Yes, sir. Let's see if this kills me or not.
Starting point is 00:26:08 Here we go. Texas and Oakland faced off for four games. Luis Garcia failed to record an out in game number one. He went walk, walk, walk. grand slam. How about that? Nice quick four run inning. Hayes went on to score 10. They win game one. Texas wins game one of the double header on Saturday. They scored five in the first and just chilled from there. O'Dore with a big three run shot. In game two of the double header, Oakland scored seven in the second. So just big innings after
Starting point is 00:26:45 big innings after big innings in the set. Bassett shut down the Rangers. And then in game four, Texas win. Lance Lynn Shubbs, seven innings pitch, one and run, 10Ks. Oakland splits that series. Probably would have wanted to win it. Good for Texas. Fight. Angels and Rockies played three games. Bem Boom, Homered.
Starting point is 00:27:06 Top nine to take four for the Angels. Didn't matter much, though, as McMahon homered, bottom nine to tie it. Then Charlie Blackman hit a walk off grand slam. Colorado wins game one. Angels won game two. I didn't take any notes because nothing sounded interesting to me. And in game three, Poole's hits his 660th home run.
Starting point is 00:27:26 Was that word? Rocky's bullpen blows it and the Angels win game three. So the Angels beat the Rockies in a series. Are the Rockies losing a lot now? Feels like they kind of are. They like that. And then Seattle versus Arizona. Arizona wins game one.
Starting point is 00:27:42 Seattle wins game two and three. Both score seven to three. Sheffield had another good start. Gallen had his first really poor outing. He gave up seven earned runs. and the only thing I wrote for game three was it was a doubles fest. I guess there was a lot of doubles in game three. Seattle wins that series.
Starting point is 00:27:58 Ty France. His number is being traded over to the Mariners are really good. Good. So a little hat tip to tie France. San Francisco Giants versus San Diego Padres. Paddock removed early. Injury scare Jake. X-rays were negative though, just a sprained ankle.
Starting point is 00:28:16 I used to sprain my ankle like once a year. then they got some postponements due to COVID so they had a double header Clevenger shuffed complete game shutout in the seven inning game only two hits and 7Ks good pickup by them huh in the next one Padres
Starting point is 00:28:33 went 3 to 1 pro far and Manny pro far and manny with late RBI guys to win the game Padres have now won seven in a row they're 20 and 20 wins and four losses in last 24 games pretty pretty incredible Dodgers and
Starting point is 00:28:49 Houston had a two game set. Houston won, seven to five. Astor scored five in the ninth off of Kenley for the win. Reliever of the month. Probably not going back to back with that. In game two, the Dodgers took care of business. Granky gave up five. They went with Gratterol as the opener in this one.
Starting point is 00:29:08 So I'm interested to see what's going on there. Pollock, Betts, and Taylor all homered. Houston has now lost nine of their last 11, and they're under 500. And that's that. Mm. Mm-mm-mm. Jim. Good stuff.
Starting point is 00:29:25 Thanks. Battling. Yeah, Dodgers are currently the one. Padres are the four seed. Yeah, man. Padres Dodgers this week, that'll be fun. If the Padres win, they're the best team ever, like you're saying. If the Dodgers win, it'll be Big Brother reminding them who they are.
Starting point is 00:29:46 So I think that series is going to be a lot of fun either way. and the Giants are holding on to that eighth seed, 23 and 24. Their schedule the rest of the way, they've got two with the Mariners, three with the A's, four with my rocks, and then three with the Padres. I mean, they're the team that there's a group of four NL teams
Starting point is 00:30:12 that are salivating, hoping the Giants finally fall apart, Rockies, Brewers, Reds, and Mets. yeah yeah what yeah what but they're all bad yeah
Starting point is 00:30:29 I don't know I want to argue there they're like I'll fight like you know when you're hoping the giants fall apart and I'm not knocking the giants
Starting point is 00:30:41 it's just the expanded playoffs have given all these they've like they've given all these teams a distorted vision of themselves a little bit teams are bad
Starting point is 00:30:54 are we Reds won a series are we rooting for them to get the eight seat and play the Dodgers again if they win back to back series I will okay who do they play next
Starting point is 00:31:06 let's see Red's schedule Sinci Reds schedule um uh oh they host the Pirates for four
Starting point is 00:31:19 could be Reds a clock Yeah. They split a four-game set with the Pirates last week. And they split a two-game set. So they're 500 against the Pirates right now. They better go to work. So what are they? Double-header today. Double-headed today.
Starting point is 00:31:39 And then, but after the Pirates, it's White Sox, Brewers, and Twins. So get those dubs against the Pirates. They got Bauer going, so he can go seven. You can go complete game shut out. Yeah. You want a complete game. Complete game. Complete game.
Starting point is 00:31:56 All right. Okay. Interesting. Hey, someone in the chat mentioned the A's haven't played any competitive teams because the AOS is so bad. Now that Houston is under 500. You know how many games the A's have played against a team above 500? Jeez, it's just got to be their Dodgers and Padre series. So it's got to be what, like five, six games?
Starting point is 00:32:20 according to baseball reference it's three and they're one and two it's tough it's wild do you think that means anything um not really because i mean if you still play the astros on a on the right day they're a good team and you're part of the reason why these teams
Starting point is 00:32:44 right 500 especially the astros and stuff like that um i mean Texas Texas the Angels and the Mariners half stink full stink, if we're being honest. So they haven't played the Dodgers yet. No, I think that's coming up. So they've played three games against the Padres.
Starting point is 00:33:07 They're one and two. Those are their only games against a team over 500. It's a wild. It's just a weird thing to look at. Wrap your head around. The Tampa Bay Rays are 21 and 9 versus teams. Like they've played 30 games against teams over. We're 500.
Starting point is 00:33:24 Treves raised. They're good. It's just crazy to think, you know, the unbalanced schedule, 30 games versus three. Three. That's nuts. Yeah. Anything else in the West you want to discuss? Mariners, get cooking, have teams give you some wins or something.
Starting point is 00:33:51 Where do they play? I mean, Sheffields look good. Kyle Lewis is slowing down. So is Kyle Seeger. tune in the slump watch. Yeah, and again, sorry for all the Astros haters out there, but they're going home and they're playing three against Texas and then three against the Diamondback.
Starting point is 00:34:10 And then... Yeah. And then Seattle and Texas. Hey, Seattle. Stay within three games of Houston for that three game set in Seattle. Let's have some fun. I just want those Seattle games to be fun. That's all.
Starting point is 00:34:29 Yeah, stay within three games. Make that series matter a little bit. But yeah, I think there's a good chance we could be sitting here in a week and saying like, yeah, Astros won five a six. Yeah, yeah. I think they have the six spot locked up. I just want the Mariners to scare them even more. Yeah, got to.
Starting point is 00:34:47 I said that the AL was locked up as soon as the Blue Jays started making some trades and the Orioles traded away. And I still think that those eight teams are a lock. It's a really good chance. Yeah. All right, you want to move on? I think so. Who's bringing us the second half of the show? The second half of the show before we get into standout performance, before we get into Enflago. Oh, my God, race to 20?

Starting point is 00:36:56 Stand-out performats. You go first? I think I go first. I had a late audible here because I want to do someone that's going to impact the future of this season. I think, you know, you can do good performances times people who are going to matter. Jim, I went with Ian Anderson.
Starting point is 00:37:18 Oh. Ian Anderson, the young starting pitcher for the Atlanta Braves has now made four starts. His ERA is down to one. six four against the Nats. He went seven innings, one hit, three walks, nine K's, 99 pitches, that's important. He went toe to toe with Corbin. Corbin allowed two earn runs, I believe, or maybe even one. But Ian Anderson, Jim, 22 innings now, 27Ks, 164, ERA. The whip, I believe, is under one. And man, you just start thinking about it, and I know we've got a lot of
Starting point is 00:37:59 Nice Atlanta connections now, the mansplained girls. Peter Moyland is so tight. We just talk all the time. We can't stop talking. All the time. And yeah, man, I just think, you know, we're sneaking up on playoff time and, you know, lining up these three game sets that we're going to start getting excited for. I think Ian Anderson's getting the pill for the Atlanta Braves in one of those games.
Starting point is 00:38:24 Max Fried is supposed to come back. Cole Hamils is going to make his debut. Bue. We'll see if he looks like Cole Hamels, Cole Hamels. But Ian Anderson, if they go three, I think he gets the pill, and there's a chance he could be getting the pill in game, too. So you know how excited Davey Garcia has gotten me in Yankee land. Ian Anderson is doing it for the Braves, who are currently the second best team in the National League. And this rookie could be a huge part of their season going forward. So I went Ian Anderson for the Braves.
Starting point is 00:38:56 The Shenandoah Shadster. Yeah, that's what they say. Do you know what his one hit in that game was? What was the one hit, Jim? It was an as-druble-cabrera bun. Love that. What? As-crabbs.
Starting point is 00:39:12 If you're going to give up a hit. Yeah. Make it an azreubel-cabrear-bunt. First pitch of the inning. Love that. And the fourth. What a beast. I Anderson.
Starting point is 00:39:24 Mr. Anderson. It's been good. Good job, Jake. That's the name people should know. Jim, here's a random stat I just stumbled into. RandomStat.com? In his 22 innings, he's only given up three extra base hits. Wow.
Starting point is 00:39:43 So his exit velo must be good. Limiting the damage. So that's what I got. Who was your first one that you pivoted to? You might hear about them later, Jim. Oh, teaser, teaser. 66 percentile in exit below. I thought it would have been more.
Starting point is 00:40:07 Damn it. But X-slugging, 97 percentile. There you go. Yep. They just hit hard singles. That's all it is. My stand-up performance is the dude I've been talking about on the show for a watch. Yes.
Starting point is 00:40:25 Alex Mills. I think I gave him the. old people award something at one point it was like a elder insurance award i forget what it was because he throws a pitch from 60 to 90s got you covered yeah well he he know hits the brewers as you've heard already yeah three walks zero hits i don't think he threw a single pitch over 90 miles per hour kind of crazy yeah curveball 66 miles per hour I don't know, man. Like, what's, what is Alec Mills all about?
Starting point is 00:41:06 Is he part of the Cubs? He's about throwing no-nose, Jim. Man, A, happy for him. He has been on our radar a lot this year. He might have got an early standout performance from you this year. I mean, I don't know. I think John Lester had a bounce-back start, and it's Darvish Hendrix, and then you're picking the third.
Starting point is 00:41:30 So it's either Lester or Mills at this point. Kintana's working his way back. Did he get hurt again? Oh, he did get hurt again. So I don't know. I think it's an awesome story if you don't know. I mean, it's been said a lot at this point, but walked on at UT Martin,
Starting point is 00:41:50 22nd round pick. Again, not lighten up the radar gun at all. Some hard hit balls. But hey, when they're at the people, who cares? So yeah, I don't know. I think he's definitely a part of their playoff plan. I don't know if in a three-game set he's getting the pill. Maybe long relief.
Starting point is 00:42:11 Yeah, I think, you know, if they went to a game three, you probably start Lester because he's got the experience, but you have Mills ready to go at any time. You tell us, Cubs fans. You tell us. He's got the third-most innings pitched on the Cubs. And, let me say that. I was going to say.
Starting point is 00:42:33 What were you thinking about saying, Jim? I was going to say. Hmm. I was like I was going to say. No, I was trying to see if there's a way to make him, like he's got the best and find a stat. Sure. But Darvish has been so damn good.
Starting point is 00:42:47 I mean, wasn't it, like, didn't he have just a terrible middle area? Because I feel like he was good start, terrible, and now he's been good again. Yeah, he had a stretch. I mean, it was a bad stretch. It was five games in a row where he had a seven, six, six, six, ERA. He gave up four and runs, six run runs,
Starting point is 00:43:05 three, four, four. The three wasn't bad because he went seven innings, three earned runs. That's not terrible at all. But surrounding that was two bad starts each. But in his last 17 innings, he's zero runs. That's good.
Starting point is 00:43:23 Bless you, child. Thank you. Appreciate that. Bless you, and the other thing, Jim, I don't know if this is too deep of a baseball talk,
Starting point is 00:43:32 but I mean, every broadcaster says that David Cohen's been saying it on the Yankees broadcast a lot because there's that reliever from Baltimore who's been shoving Valdez. But I think there might be more of a role for kind of junk pitchers. If you're actually, you got some good junk and you can locate it, it's a much different look than everyone who comes out of the pen pumping 96-97. So I don't know, Alec Mills, carve out a nice little career for yourself. dude he looks so much like a guy like if you picture like dude that throws 66 mile per hour curve balls yeah BPD I'm gonna put the link to a picture on the very top of the sheet
Starting point is 00:44:14 at any point just throw this in here I mean he just he fits the bill of a guy that throws six I need a 66 mile per hour pitcher to come out looking like you know Clemens or John Rocker Oh, okay. But they always looked apart. They're always like soft. And they have glasses. You have to have glasses. If you were to look at the picture that I just gave BBD and be like, what's this dude's repertoire?
Starting point is 00:44:44 Yeah. You'd be like, well, he tricks him with slow stuff. Yeah. There's no way that dude's flamethrower. No. So a little bit of baseball stereotypes there. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:56 Congrats on your award, Alec Mills. Yeah. And the no hitter. And the no-hitter, too, I guess. More. Someone said Dobnack is who I picture. Does Dobnack throw hard? No.
Starting point is 00:45:10 I think a little harder than Mills, but not hard. Because Dobnack is very much of the same ilk. Yeah. Randy Dobnack, he throws. Whatever. All right, what's next? Jim, next. Great standout performances, a couple NL hurlers today.
Starting point is 00:45:33 Next we usually do N-Ferner. Fuego. Oh, yeah. You got a sound clip for that. Nasty's on Fuego. That means I'm on fire, baby, like Waco. Boom. Get rolling, Jim.
Starting point is 00:45:49 I filled out some in Fuego's this week. Yep. Ryan Jeffers, three home in his last four starts. Big time. You don't think of him when you think of Twins' crushers. His last five games, you got a 5-56 batting average. And a two. That two OPS.
Starting point is 00:46:06 Yeah. Ain't that crazy. Eloy Jimenez, your dude. Love him. Last six games, 400 batting average, 444 on base percentage. This next guy that I threw on the list
Starting point is 00:46:20 made me laugh out loud. What I did is I sorted the weekend stats by people that played in three games and then highest OPS. And Brett Gardner was third. And I was shocked because I watched all the games And I was like, how, what? But he had triple and a home run.
Starting point is 00:46:37 Yeah. So, I mean, technically he's hot, but I wouldn't, you know, if you listen to the hot infuego segment for your fantasy picks, like don't pick up Rick Gardner. No. But technically the stats are really good. Yeah. From the weekend, it's kind of wild.
Starting point is 00:46:52 Your favorite guy, Rough Ned Odor. Mm-hmm. Three games with a home run in a row. Yeah. Some big shots, too. One yesterday was pretty cool. It's just a bomb. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:04 Chris Taylor's hot. In September, he's played 10 games. He's got three home runs. He's got a 432 on base percentage with a 1.124 OPS. Alec Baum. He's hot. Yeah. Rookie 47 batting average in his last 15 games.
Starting point is 00:47:23 I think that's the month of September as well. Sun will rise in the east, you know. Uh-huh. And then who'd you throw on here? I threw on Adelberto late. I said the three straight games, home runs, and then I want to give the pitcher some love. I mean, Woodruff dropped some serious dick,
Starting point is 00:47:41 seven innings pitch, 12Ks. Maeda's been nuts. He's been one of the best pitchers in baseball this year. Forever, or do you said this year? This year. Okay. Luis Castillo for the Reds. He started turning around.
Starting point is 00:47:56 He had a slow start. Nola, man, for the Phillies. Seven-in-in-shut-out. He's awesome. Awesome. My big Nola guys. And Jim, Garrett Cole, getting going. Do-l-L-L-O-L-O-N-O-N-O-D-R-R-N-O-T. Garrett-Cold, getting going. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:17 Gar-Cold, getting going. Race to 20? It's time for the race for 20, Jim. I don't know if you remember this, but we paired up with Roosevelt's. RSVLTS. Because before the season, Jim, Vegas said, will anyone in baseball? hit 20 home runs this year. We peacocked. We placed BPD's life on it that someone will hit 20 homers. Seemed like a layup. Seemed like it was going to happen. Jim, it's getting tight. It's been tight. Luckily, a couple of guys were rooting for had had an okay weekend. But currently the race for 20
Starting point is 00:48:59 on top of the leaderboard with 16 home runs, Nelson Cruz, Mike Trout and Luke Vos. Boy, from the New York Yankees. Holy smokes, is he having a huge year? Those are the, well, hold on now. Yeah, they're the three guys that are currently on pace for 20. Is that what you have on your sheet, Tim? Yeah, and I shared the sheet I look at with the patrons, if you guys want to follow along.
Starting point is 00:49:27 Shout out to... Sam, I think, right? Sam, who made this. Sam Heim. I got my guy that sent me one to double-check the sheet. No, this sheet's awesome. So, so last time Voight wasn't on pace with the double header weighted pace, but right over the weekend or three, forget.
Starting point is 00:49:50 Hit two. So he is now on pace. It's getting close though. Yeah. I think we're golden. Ooh, love that. Because Void's going to hit four more. Okay.
Starting point is 00:50:05 And 13 more games. Okay. I don't see why I wouldn't. Wish Trout would have got one. That would have made me really happy. Yeah. But yeah, three guys on pace. Now, Jose Abraeu's on pace for 19 and a half.
Starting point is 00:50:22 Yep. So if he shoots two out the gate early this week, he'll jump up. Mookie's on pace for 19. I still think he's going to give you a multi-homer day at some point. Tati's still around and he's a special dude. be special. But yeah, man, it's, it's, it is tightened up. Are you scared? I wouldn't say I'm scared. I mean, again, like, if, if our options, and I don't want to be rude to people, I'll, I'll be complimentary while being rude. Okay. Okay. Like, if the, if the top of the leaderboard right
Starting point is 00:50:56 now was Adam Duval, um, Will Myers, and Raynato Nunez, and they were all on pace for 20 on the nose, who I mention those guys because they're all on the leaderboard here and they're all having, you know, really good home run hitting seasons. I wouldn't be as confident. But Jim, Nelson Cruz, Mike Trout. I mean, you got one of the best ever play and one of, you know, the best home run hitters from the decade, along with Luke Voigt, who we get to watch every day
Starting point is 00:51:26 and he's having a special dynamic year. And, dude, again, the guys floating around, Tatis Jr., Mooki, Jose Abrae, who, like, you know, those guys are very, legit that, you know, they're one special day away from being very much on pace. So I'm, I'm feeling good. There was a question in the patron chat that I think is good. Out of the three guys on pace, like who's facing the worst pitching? Oh. So the diamondbacks, the tigers, and the Red Sox and Orioles, I believe are the top four that give up home runs. I know it's Tigers, Red Sox, Orioles.
Starting point is 00:52:09 I think the Diamondbacks are in there. Well, Trout has three against the Diamondbacks, four against Texas, then the Dodgers. I mean, it's half good, half not. Really would have liked to see Trout get one at course. Yeah. That seems like a miss. Toronto's starting pitching is an amazing,
Starting point is 00:52:26 and Voight's got three against them, then three against Boston, then four against Toronto. Ooh, that Boston series. Yeah. Oh, if Voigt can get two. against Boston, I think he's in. I mean, if he gets one against Toronto.
Starting point is 00:52:40 Yeah. And he only needs three. And he's got three against Boston and Toronto again. Okay. I'm pretty confident in Voight. Let's go, baby. And then Cruz has four against the White Sox. Decent pitching and amazing.
Starting point is 00:52:55 Big series. Three against the Cubs. Okay. And the tie, two against the tight. Cruise stretch looks a little difficult, but it's Nelson Cruz. Nelson Cruz, baby. So, yeah, again, thanks. I got my Roosevelt shirt on today.
Starting point is 00:53:10 Go check them out. They're the best. And let's get a couple more homers. Let's do it. Mookie or Tatis, next episode, I want to be talking that you jumped in. Sure, I need everyone. I need Trout, Void, Cruz to get a homer each.
Starting point is 00:53:27 Okay. I want. They'll try. I want someone to be on pace for, 21 per the math. Love that. Rest easy. Love that.
Starting point is 00:53:42 Oh. Slom watch. Slop ranch. Dansby Swanson went 0 for the weekend. Yeah. Don't worry about Dansby, though. Yeah, he hit the game winning home run on Thursday, I think. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:00 So then he took the rest of the weekend off, which, you know, I get that. Yeah. He had three walks. So don't worry about it. Phil Hughes. news in his most recent card break video now added Dansby to my actual doppelganger list. So pretty cool. What?
Starting point is 00:54:18 What part tripped you up? You're watching his full videos? Someone tagged me. And they were like, oh, talking Jake at the 13 minute mark. And it was a Dansby Swanson card. And Phil shouted me out. That's funny. Yeah, pretty good.
Starting point is 00:54:36 Kyle Seeger's over 16 in his last five games. Kyle, we need you. Kyle Lewis is oh for his last 14 plate appearances and he's got a 153 batting average in his last 17 games. The tiles. Yeah. We need you, Mariners.
Starting point is 00:54:54 Yeah. Not good. Yelich O for the series with one walk and his batting average is officially under 200 on the season. I mean, if someone thinks baseball is I don't know like that's crazy
Starting point is 00:55:13 how good he's been for his season to be like this is unbelievable Quentin says that Kyle's around the league have been down I wonder if he's talking about as well wow yeah I know he was slumping earlier that sounds like a foolish baseball video
Starting point is 00:55:28 all the updates tiles yeah yeah that's all I had oh page Pedro Severino went O for his last four games. O for 11 over the weekend. Severino's got like a 296 batting average. So he's,
Starting point is 00:55:44 because I checked, I was like, is that worth putting on slump watch? Yeah. Not great? No, he's having a good season. He's been having a really nice year.
Starting point is 00:55:50 He's been my fantasy catcher. Thanks, Pedro. Yeah, Jim, I want to get a hurler or two on here. I put Sonny. Sonny didn't technically start this weekend, but he's been bad since him and Bauer were chasing each other.
Starting point is 00:56:05 Sonny's, his ERA is almost at four. Really? After a crazy good start, yeah. But the one that jumped out on the pitchers list, because again, there's a lot of guys who are bad. Framber Valdez, he had another tough start after the Dusty Baker incident start where he gave up eight runs over seven or whatever it was.
Starting point is 00:56:27 He came out for that last inning. He gave up an eight inning in a hundred-degree heat when you dropped 100 pitches. Dusty, what you do it. So he. came out and I think it was five innings, five earned runs. And again, Framber, if you start talking Houston's path or however you want to phrase it, you know, Framber's supposed to be a big part of that. And he, uh, he's been getting knocked around lately. So it's not good, Jake.
Starting point is 00:56:49 No. I'm trying to, I'm trying to look here. I think Housers been poor. Adrian? Yeah. Pukes. Yeah, old puky. Let's see. Oh, you know who else I think is, is doing really bad? Chance Adams. Hmm. That's, uh, I don't know if that's slump watch. Well, okay. What about Chad Kuhl? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:21 Boyd? Yeah. Okay. All the Tigers pitchers? Tigers pitching. Tigers in general. Chad Kool. Great name.
Starting point is 00:57:36 Slept on him. You did sleep on him. Some watch. Chad Kool gave up 9-run and runs His last hour Not good Not good
Starting point is 00:57:45 What Did anyone get mad, Tim? I don't know I don't think so All right I'm trying to Oh, counsel got tossed Yesterday
Starting point is 00:58:03 He did I forget what happened I think his team was getting no hit So he got tossed That's probably why Yeah Opa ejected him Ronnie Culp's
Starting point is 00:58:16 The culprit Timeout, no call During no hitter appeal play on Base Runner Time out, no call I don't know what any of that means Yeah Cubs batter, Kipnis hit a 2-2 fastball
Starting point is 00:58:32 From Brewer's pitcher JP Fire Eisen On a sacrifice fly to left-fielder Kristen Yellich Oh, I know what happened, Jim So the Brewers were quitting on their season Yeah And they threw the ball in the infield. And for whatever reason, Sogarde thought time was out.
Starting point is 00:58:50 So he just threw it to the second basement. Oh, and Harvey went home. I saw that. Bias stole home technically. And yeah, he just scored like Nottingham. The catcher didn't even try to catch it. They were just like, is this real? And so counsel had to go nuts slash wanted to get tossed.
Starting point is 00:59:07 What was the score at that point? 7-0? Something like that. Not an unwritten rules guy, but Hobbs. He's a little bit of a fucker for that one. He's twisting the knife for sure. You know, it's a little over. Cubs, Brewers, rivalry, whatever.
Starting point is 00:59:21 Twist that knife, babe. You do it. If that's, if that's the Tigers, it's a little fucked. If that's the Royals, Brewer's a little rivalry, no hitting that. Pretty heads up by Harvey.
Starting point is 00:59:34 I mean, he's... I saw it. I remember watching that. I didn't see that he got, counsel got ejected. I saw the play, but not the aftermath. But, yeah, it's a fun.
Starting point is 00:59:41 It's weird. I was like, what happened? Yeah. How does that happen? So he got mad. He got man. Uh, it looks like Joe got ejected.
Starting point is 00:59:52 Good. And Brian Holiday. Oh my God. It looks like there's a fluffy carpet moving behind you. Don't talk about it. Okay, I won't. Don't talk about it. I won't talk about it.
Starting point is 01:00:06 Awards. Awards. You go first, Jake. I'll go first, Jim. I'm giving out the Matrix Award. Oh. The Matrix. Dodging bullets.
Starting point is 01:00:18 Something like the Matrix. Oh. You ever seen The Matrix? You, boy, you know, Facebook. Jim, I know you're a big sci-fi guy. In the Matrix, kind of the problem is the machines are taken over. Is that the plot? More or less.
Starting point is 01:00:43 There's a couple ways you could go about it. Jim, the machine, the original machine, Albert Poole Hulse. He hits 660, 5th most home runs in Major League history. James, you know this. BBD now knows this. A lot of people are now learning this. I used to copy Poole Hulse's stance.
Starting point is 01:01:06 Young Jake's thought process was he's the best hitter. I should copy what he does. what he does doesn't translate to my body too well. Jim, I just, I think a lot of our fans probably don't understand how much of a dude Pujolos was. For a decade, he averaged, he averaged 331, 426 with a 1.05 OPS. St. Louis, Albert Poulos is one of the best players to ever play this game. He's now kind of looked at as just, I mean, a bad contract because he kind of is, and he wasn't the dude in L.A.
Starting point is 01:01:45 But he's still out there swinging it. He hit 660, and hey, when you start looking at the all-time home run list, I mean, you see A-Rod and Bonds up there, and those guys are kind of being not unwritten from history, but looked upon in a not-fond way. He's probably the best first baseman to ever play. Lou Gehrig people will come at me for that, and that's fine. He's got three MVPs, 10, top five in the MVP. Both of those are the most for a first baseman. Three gold gloves, so, I mean, he did it all around.
Starting point is 01:02:20 And Jim, if you look at war, it's Lou Gehrig, Poo-Holz, Jimmy Fox, Cap Anson, Roger Connor. You know, I don't think a lot of people have seen those other guys play too much. Biggers. Yeah, that's, I will. And then next on the list is Jeff Bagwell. And Jeff Bagwell is a really good baseball player, but he is not in the same league as Albert Poole. So similar stance.
Starting point is 01:02:46 No. Yeah. So I'm giving it to Albert. He's the machine. He's a legend. So Albert gets it from me. Congrats. 660.
Starting point is 01:02:59 Adrian Constantine Anson. I've seen him play a lot. You've seen a lot of Cap Anson, huh? Yeah. Yeah. Yes. Buried at the Oakwood Cemetery in Chicago, Illinois. RIP, Cap.
Starting point is 01:03:17 Doesn't Bagwell and Bulls have similar sentences to an extent? Both bottom wide. Yeah, I mean, Bagwell's is all time. I mean, it's the Bagwell. Poulos, definitely wide legs and has a little bounce going. But, I mean, Bagwell. Bagwell is the most ridiculous one. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:34 U-Hart, I think. Yeah, he's got some Connecticut ties too, so I feel bad, to put him down. But, uh, and yeah, if you guys didn't see a lot of Cap Anson, unlike Jimmy, um, his rookie season was 1871, so. And it was delightful. It was good. Oh, I remember him more as a manager.
Starting point is 01:03:54 Yeah, I know you do. Mm-hmm. His rookie season in 1871 was for the Rockford Forest City's statistics. Yeah, they were good. They were a good team. The Rockford Farr's city's statistics. Don't, Jimmy. That's for after the show for you.
Starting point is 01:04:15 And they were actually a terrible team, Jake. They were four and 21. They finished ninth. Yeah, Jim, they were good for their expectations that year. Cap was great. That's all it matters. Led the league in doubles. Albert Bulls.
Starting point is 01:04:30 Appreciate it. I liked what you said on Wake and Jake, where you said, imagine if he did steroids, would we be talking about them like bonds? Dude, I'm just saying, His numbers with the St. Louis Cardinals, 11 years, he had a 1.037 OPS. And nine years with L.A. He's at a 762, so he's been kind of league average.
Starting point is 01:04:52 And, man, look at Bons' late numbers. Pujols fell off at age 33. Bonds' biggest seasons are after, what, age 37 when he's on the juice. So I don't know, man, when you just consider all-time grades, like Albert Pujolos should be up there. and a lot of people don't because he really hasn't been that good for the last eight years. Yeah. I mean, Cap Anson wasn't doing drugs, but he led to league in RPIs at 39.
Starting point is 01:05:22 If you think Cap Anson wasn't doing drugs, you're out of your mind. Quit telling me about Cap Anson. I'm the only guy that knows. He did so many drugs. As a manager, he was pretty, you know. He used to write in the sand like Clevenger does his tweets. Cap Anson, the manager, was a crazy person. I mean, he was on Benny's drinking.
Starting point is 01:05:47 He used to piss on the bats after they didn't get hits. It was an ugly scene. Congrats, Cap Anson. Jimmy, who's your award going to? Well, Jake, let me take you on Journey. First, I was going to give it to the Wind Award. Ooh. And it was going to go to the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox
Starting point is 01:06:09 for both having no hitters. Right. And they know, both being good, both being first in their division. And the windy city is probably excited about that because the bears. And then I was like, no,
Starting point is 01:06:22 I don't know. Let's do the Alec Award because Alec Baum and Al, the only two Alex and MLB, both have pretty good weeks. You know, they're hot. Then I was going to do the so dumb but fun award
Starting point is 01:06:43 because the raise batted one through nine of all lefties. Yeah. I don't even know if it worked. Did they win? I don't know if they won that game. I think they did because Snell was on the bump. Yeah, Snell Day. And I just thought, you know, you should mention it.
Starting point is 01:06:57 First time in the history of baseball. You know, baseball is a long sport. I love the race, man. Oh, my God. I love that. It didn't make sense either because the pitcher that they were facing was much better against lefties and righties. Yeah, yeah, that's the best part, if we're being honest.
Starting point is 01:07:13 I think they just wanted to make history. Like when Austin, Roman played all nine positions in the game, just because they're like, fuck it, let's do it. But this is the first place race. I, uh, if they weren't in the AL East, I would be so raid out. I have a question. Please. So they, this award.
Starting point is 01:07:34 This is, no, this is just was going to be my award. I didn't do it. Okay. They should have used only lefty relievers. Yeah, just lefty day. But I don't think they did. They used Fairbanks. He's a righty, right?
Starting point is 01:07:46 Yeah. That's bullshit. Hate you, Fairbanks. Curtis is a righty. Sheriff is a righty. Yeah. No, Sheriff's a lefty and lope's a lefty. So the only, you know, okay.
Starting point is 01:08:00 It's a bit of bullshit. Should have gotten only lefty. I'm giving my award to hold. still holding still holding award still holding still holding I don't have the sound bite
Starting point is 01:08:14 because I didn't crap it but that's and it goes to Eraldus Chapman ooh for getting the hold in the ninth inning while holding the shit yeah
Starting point is 01:08:26 in his body that was trying to escape yeah now Jake you're a person who has poop sneak up on you a lot I will poop anytime anywhere.
Starting point is 01:08:38 If it's got to go out, it's coming out. We live together on many occasions. I remember you saying goodbye and leaving. And then 10 minutes later, sprinting back in the house because a poop snuck up on you. Yeah. I mean, when I used to do party supplied deliveries,
Starting point is 01:08:53 I mean, if I showed up to your home and I had to go, I was where is your bathroom? Yeah. And you know, that's, you're not supposed to do that. I was instructed to not do that.
Starting point is 01:09:04 So you've done your job while, to holding a poop before. Oh yeah, many times. Do you sympathize with Charlie? Currently. Are you impressed by him? So I want to know the details. So like if the Yankees were to fully flip the script and win the World Series, like then, you know, during the parade, you'd get a drunk Chapman telling the actual story of poop day. And I'd want to know. Like, did any material come out? Was it just right there? Like, what happened?
Starting point is 01:09:33 but yeah no I give him credit because he looked good and there's got to be a little fear with every pitch yeah I mean there was one like pop-up foul that he was just booking it towards the clubhouse kind of yeah but that went out of place or he'd come back he looked good he looked good I don't know if I could perform under those conditions yeah so he gets the steelholding award Good job, Avaldus. Jim, I guess we're ending with some Yankees stuff. The Yankees pitching has been really good. The bullpen hasn't given up a run since the incident,
Starting point is 01:10:13 the Toronto fiasco. Yeah. And I just had someone DM me, and I totally forgot about this. Someone DM me on Instagram and said, John Holder having a bench and then realizing he killed the natives, cracked me up, which is a deep cut from last night. talking yanks episode where we we got lost in the sauce so if you want to do a deep dive on the yankees go go check out our last talking yanks episode got a little silly
Starting point is 01:10:41 who's this bench for the name oh my god uh the braves optioned shan newcom oh how about it is there toky toky do you want to do uh the wheel quick elevate Yeah. You want me to just make a noise or you got it? I think I have it. Okay. MLB teams.
Starting point is 01:11:12 Tight. Give us a good one. Texas Rangers. No, dad. Blue Jays. Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. This might be informative for us. Big series against the Yanks coming up.
Starting point is 01:11:33 You start there. Battle for second place. Yeah. Jim, they've been playing really good. good ball for coming up on a month. They were 7 and 11, and now they're 26 and 20. So that's 19 and 9 for about the past month or so. So they've been playing good baseball.
Starting point is 01:11:56 I mean, it's rude, but I think it's something that if you're in an elevator, you can talk about and be like, how about that fat guy? Oh, my God, the future of baseball. What's his name? Jim, the way you did phrase that is a little rude. It's Alejandro Kirk. If you guys didn't see, they called up a 21-year-old catcher who's listed, he's listed at 5-8-265, which means he's 5-7-280.
Starting point is 01:12:29 He's a beautiful, beautiful man. He got his first Major League hit and a walk. Canoe was toying with him. Robbie Canoe was messing with them as he ran the first. But again, I just want you to think about those numbers. 5-8-265 listed. That's a thick boy. Jim, it looks like the injury bug is caught up to them a little bit.
Starting point is 01:12:56 Tay Oscar got hurt. That was a big blow for them. He was in that race for 20 for a while. And now Rowdy Tell us is on the aisle. Your guy. Randall Gritchicks, our best. friend. I don't know. What else? I mean, they're starting pitching is pretty lackluster.
Starting point is 01:13:13 Rio had a good start. Robbie Ray had the best, the second best start of his season. Five innings pitched one earn run. Yeah. Which, I mean, as a diamond back, he had a five
Starting point is 01:13:32 innings pitch one earn run with six walks. Yeah. But yeah, it's a good start versus the Mets. Other than that, you know, in their rotation, they got Chase Anderson. He's coming off back-to-back poor outings. Tyon Walker, he hasn't pitched since the Yankees game where he walked five, but zero runs of only four innings.
Starting point is 01:13:50 I don't know. It doesn't seem like a good recipe. Yeah, man, they're looking for Nate Pearson to come back, and I think their best playoff rotation would be Ryu Walker Ray. Yeah, it's kind of weird. Which, how about this? If you're the Blue Jays, try to dodge the white socks, because they kill lefties.
Starting point is 01:14:12 So you can't bring Ryu and Robbie Ray against the White Sox. I don't know about that pitching at all, man. Yeah, Ryu's good. Ryu's been really good. I like Ryu, obviously, but that's one guy. After that, it falls off pretty quick. I mean, after that, do they have a pitcher? So, all right, Taiwan's ERA and the season's good.
Starting point is 01:14:36 We'll see. Jim, you know I'm high on our Yanks right now. I do think they'll win the series at home versus the Jays. and partially, dude, after Rowdy and Teosker, those guys have been their best hitters this year. Rowdy and Teoscar have? Yeah. So I got the last two weeks up,
Starting point is 01:14:56 and it's Guriel Jr.'s been pretty good last two weeks. Yep, he's been their best hitter this season. Joe Panic? Well, out of the healthy guys. How about Joe Panic, dude? Yeah. Ten games. He's got a 375 batting average.
Starting point is 01:15:10 Joey P. Playoff experience. And then Travis Shaw. Yeah. I mean, all the other people you think of, like the Blue Jays you think of, Bigio, Bichette's been hurt, Vladdy's still very bad. They need Bichet to come back. Is he coming back?
Starting point is 01:15:27 I don't know. Blue Jays fans, you tell us. Tell me if you have faith in you're starting pitching at all. I can't imagine you do. Bo Bichette back? Is he back? The Blue Jays have remained competitive. Bob Bichet is their biggest act,
Starting point is 01:15:44 but he's back in the lineup. Tonight, September 12th. So, Bichette's back. Yay. There you go. So that's your Jay's talk. Vladdy's been a disappointment, huh? Give me Alejandro Kirk.
Starting point is 01:16:01 Yeah, Vladdy's got to pick it up. Ah. Big boys. But Bichette, I mean, he played. That's what they're telling me. Yeah, he played two games already. You got a hit. Three strikeouts.
Starting point is 01:16:19 Bo Bichette's back. Good for them. Score to run. How about that? All right. Thank you guys very much for hanging out with us. Thanks, everybody. Appreciate you. See you later.
