Today is October 24th.
We are live in Arlington here to recap game three.
Let's do it.
Hello and welcome to talking baseball.
If we sound a little different today,
because we're not in the Roosevelt Studios, Bronx.
We're in Roosevelt Studios, Arlington at a house about a block away from what's Dallas
Stadium?
Yes.
The Dallas Stadium.
Globe life.
Globe life.
My name's Jimmy.
Jake is sitting right next to me.
Producer Bugbug set up already.
Trevor Plough is on his fishing trip.
Had some connectivity issues.
We'll get him in later on.
But we still got a game three to recap before we really get settled here.
Jake, how are you doing?
I'm good, James.
I'm good.
We just flew in, Uber'd here, met with the Airbnb people.
Nice folk.
Some good.
Texas high school football chatter.
The Bishop bros of Al-Illita.
Giving away our location.
We just told you we're by the stadium.
Yeah, no, really nice people.
But now, you know, the baseball switch is back on.
And it's kind of, you know, it's been a whirlwind 12 hours for us,
thinking that this World Series game was still last night.
But it was.
It was supposed to be the pitcher's duel for the ages.
Walker Bueller climbs another step.
up on the ladder and like playoff pitcher history.
Charlie Morton comes back down to Earth for the first time in a while.
And the rays might be in a little bit of trouble.
Yeah.
You, what were you saying on the stream last night?
I forget.
I was blocked up.
You forget.
I have some thoughts and stuff like that.
I have something for you, Jake.
Yeah.
This postseason.
Yeah.
Is killing pitchers.
Mm.
Charlie Morton just looked tired.
Pitching a lot.
And I think Tanaka and Morton were both on the list of like the list of like, you know, minimum five outings.
They have the lowest DRA.
And Tanaka fell off this year.
And now Morton fell off.
But you know who added himself?
Walker Bueller.
Walker Bueller.
Walker Bueller.
Yeah, a lot of the short kings of baseball were firing off their tweets.
I think Walker Bueller's nine playoff starts or however many he has.
as are historic and it's insane.
And yeah, I mean, Charlie Morton has still been good this playoffs.
Our guy, Tank, kind of didn't have a good playoff start this year.
And I think, I mean, man, honestly, Morton didn't look great, sure,
but it's also just a credit to the Dodgers.
It's a different lineup.
And that's been, I feel like the theme of these first two games has been essentially,
when the Dodgers dominate, you just feel like these.
are two teams in different leagues.
Well, yeah, and that's kind of what I was saying on the pregame show is that
Walker Bueller and Charlie Morton are both good pitchers,
but they're facing completely different caliber lineups.
Like that's what I said on the pream.
I was like Walker Buehler's got the easy leg up here because he doesn't have to face the Dodgers.
Yeah.
No, I mean, it felt kind of similar to game one,
where Kershaw and the Dodgers dominated.
And then, you know, the Rays almost had to play.
their A game in that game two to win
and they only won 6-4 at the end of it.
So I don't know.
I mean, there are still some positive race spins
tonight's game.
Nothing is promised.
We will be at the match.
You see how much room we have?
Yeah.
I was kind of got excited about this during the live stream.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, that's cool.
Yeah, we, uh, I pulled the couch this way
and the table this way a little bit, so we got a little extra room.
So, yeah, we'll see.
It's, uh, it feels like,
For the rest of the way, something drastic would have to happen.
Bad for the Dodgers are great for the race.
For the race to come back in this one.
I have still hopeful they make it a series even.
We have to do the burn and get into this actual gameplay,
but just a little more overarching thing is this series hasn't had a thing yet.
Yeah.
It has not had a moment yet.
The guy.
The home run guy.
He's the biggest.
He's the number one moment.
But this whole play.
Doesn't really have a moment, man.
No, it's been, I was reading some casual fans' takes.
I was going to find non-diehard baseballs, and the consensus kind of was like it's been a boring
postseason.
There's no eighth, ninth inning comeback.
There hasn't been any of that all postseason.
The most exciting thing was the Dodgers Padres game with Brewster and belly robbing Tatee's.
That was like the biggest moment, but we're talking.
That's early divisional series.
And still there was no comeback.
Like the comeback never got completed.
Well, that would have been a comeback.
She robbed it.
It would have been to go ahead home run.
And then...
Cleveland and the Yankees had some entertaining.
Sorry, everyone.
But still, the fact that we're...
That's so early.
The fact we're still digging at that is the point.
And Bellinger's home run in game seven.
Or six, was it?
Yeah, game seven against the Braves.
But I mean, I still think that was like the seventh inning.
Like, I don't know.
A-th inning.
And then they just closed that.
But I think...
Yeah.
That's the... of this postseason, that's the biggest moment.
And the fact that we're doing that...
and we're reaching for those moments is the point.
So I'm saying so, so I stand here today sitting on this couch saying the rays are dead in the water unless we get this moment.
Belly was in the seventh eat of bug.
Nice.
We get this moment that goes in the race favor.
Yeah.
We haven't had like Davey Martinez getting ejected because the baseline call.
We haven't had, you know, even the Dodgers and Red Sox when they went that.
16 inning game and Avaldi did what he did to save the pan.
Like, we haven't anything.
Bill Maseroski's walkoff in game seven, that hasn't happened yet.
Yeah.
So let's do the burn.
Let's do the burn.
Talk about it.
Let's do the bird.
I'm rooting for game six, but this series will end in two days.
I don't think so.
Yarburo show.
I love YARB.
On your mark.
Get set.
Burn.
Jakey burn.
Pivotal game three.
of the 2020 fall classic.
Ace is wild as the saltman, Charlie Martin.
Everybody's talking about my tight pants.
Walker Bueller takes the bump for the Dodgers.
Turn around.
J.T. solo shot.
It's one nothing in the first.
Top three, like Jerry Gergich visiting his timeshare.
It's Muncie Time.
Two RBI single from Max.
Austin Barnes with some.
baseball. Safety, Anaconda Squeeze, followed by a mooky Ribby. It's 5-0 Dodger. Trevor Ploofs
World Series MVP, slick Willie Adomas would hit an RBI double, but that's all the
raise would get off Bueller. Six innings pitch, one run, run 10Ks, another crazy playoff
start for Walker, Vandy, go doors. Barnes accidentally hits a home run later to Arod's
dismay and a little ring around the Rosa Rain a late was not enough as he set some more
playoff records.
Bueller to Trinen to Gratterall to Kenley, Dodgers win 6-2, and go up 2-1 in the series.
Very well done.
What was the Muncie line?
I was reading Trevor's thoughts and then BBD let out a big giggle.
Yeah, I got BBD.
It's a good, if you're a Parks and Rex fan, I mean, it was a good one.
It was top three, like Jerry Gergich visiting his time share, it's Muncie time.
Muncie. Jerry famously has a time sharing Muncie in Indiana because that's the most Jerry thing
that you could think of. It's good. Good job. Trevor's thoughts on the game. I was trying to do some
safety squeeze jokes, but they all came out like too heavy. It was like hugging a relative if you don't
know if you're going to see them again. Give them a safety squeeze. Oh yeah, yeah, like before a flight.
Or like a little kid scared with their teddy bear, a safety squeeze. So they didn't really
feel like it was part of the burn.
What?
The teddy bear one's good.
Okay.
Well, not the, uh, like saying goodbye to a loved one that's going off to World War II.
That one works.
I didn't say that, but I didn't say that.
You can see it getting dicey.
A safety squeeze.
Like giving a hug to a kamikaze pilot.
No, that's not a safety squeeze.
That's a goodbye squeeze.
I've had some goodbye squeezes in my life.
What would a BBD laugh at this time?
David.
Comicazi squeeze.
Oh, okay.
Okay.
Here are Trevor's thoughts on the game.
Trevor's thoughts.
It was stupid to say Charlie Morton is battle tested
when Bueller has been every bit as good as him in the playoffs
and has plenty of starts of his own.
Seeger's at bat against McClanahan,
McLaughan, whatever, he put in parentheses,
was as good as you'll ever see,
98 to 100 left on left,
and he kept taking balanced hacks.
I told my brother that he was going,
to hit a line drive to left, and he did.
He is so locked in right now, it's a problem.
Balanced hacks would be like a cool thing on like a crime scene report.
Like, you know, like that's how you link a serial killer.
Like all of these slangs have really balanced hacks.
This guy knows what he's doing.
Okay.
Just getting my Horatio on.
Yeah.
You know, one on an airplane, so.
Okay.
Usually thinking about Horatio.
Yeah.
I'm the most pathetic man in the world.
Okay.
Okay.
Yeah, the Dodgers just outdid everyone.
Our dude, Justin Turner, Jake, had a really good game.
A couple nice plays at third.
One really good pick at third.
I think he had the home run early.
He had the double later on to really add insult to Charlie Morton's Day.
Is he like World Series MVP right now?
Is it Bueller?
It's only one start for Bueller.
I don't know.
And the other thing is, I'm going to pat myself on the back
because I guess that the score would be somewhere around 6 to 1.
And then I told you guys that they were going to go Gratterol, Trine, and Kenley.
I said when we were debating the bullpen,
I said it's going to be Bueller, Gratterall, Trine, and Kenley.
And they're set up fine.
Dodgers are set up so good.
Yeah, Trine and Graterall Jansen finish this one.
Jansen gets clipped.
And I know some Dodger fans didn't even want them getting used.
You kind of had to get them in there.
And yeah, I mean, they used the good bullpen up five.
And, no, I mean, I wasn't debating you that those three are their best guys.
I think my whole argument on that is that other guys are going to be needed the rest of this series.
Do you still think that?
Yes.
Okay.
Because I think we're going six games and they're going to burn guys.
I mean, it's, again, it's a 90% overlap because how important are those innings?
I don't know.
It depends how the games play out.
But I think if we go six, they're going to need.
those other bodies.
And like we've seen the rest of these playoffs,
I think the Dodgers may even be willing.
Like if you're the raise,
the importance on getting an early lead
with the way teams use bullpins now
is so, so important.
Because the Dodgers will literally let a game go.
That's what I said.
That they don't need May or Gonsland to be good.
They can just lose that game and then win the next two.
Right.
But depending, again, and this also ties back,
Back into where we started about these playoff games, we haven't had the moment yet.
We haven't had a tie game where teams are using their good bullpen and then they're burnt them out for the next day.
That's kind of why these playoffs haven't been exciting because we've seen teams constantly be like, okay, we're down.
We'll lose this game.
Let's set up for the next two.
And that is why I think we're going to get at least six games because I do think the rays are going to get on top again.
And then you'll see the Dodgers go by as Kelly, buy as May, by as whatever.
Yeah, we're getting a little into pregame show here.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Dodgers dominated, man.
I mean, people were calling us out on the stream,
A, because we did have some other stuff on our mind with traveling today,
but I don't know, I mean, once the Dodgers went up,
3-0-0-0-0-0.
The game was over, seriously over.
The Rays don't have that offensive punch.
That's the whole thing in sports right now, whether you go to...
They don't even have, like, a combination of three guys
where, like, you say, who's coming up next
and, like, give me, like, any Dodgers.
order, you know.
I mean, Mooky Seeger Turner.
Okay.
Oh shit.
Mookie Seager.
Like, the,
the Rays don't have any combination of three.
Yeah.
It would be,
you have to build it around Randy.
Right.
It's Meadows Lauer Rosarena.
Or Roserana G-Man,
Margot last night.
Margot's been playing well.
But then,
but still,
that's nothing.
Look at the scales.
Yeah.
Look at the scales.
They just don't,
they're not built to,
to give you any fright.
Like, the way that the Ray's offense works is they surprise you.
You don't see it coming.
Yeah.
You know, like, oh, shit, this might be a close inning like you are with, you know,
bringing in Fleming or Curtis against the Dodgers lineup where you're like,
uh-oh, we hope we can escape this one.
There's no feeling like that with this raised lineup, which is not how they're built.
And I'm not really trying to be rude to them because they got to the World Series because
they can surprise you and jump on pitches and get those sneaky rallies often.
Right.
The problem is their pitching has not stopped the Dodgers, really.
Yeah.
And hey, three games, they, you know, they won the second one.
But no, it feels.
Yeah, it is only two to one.
But it feels like the Dodgers are up seven to south.
Yeah.
To go cross sports a little bit, it's kind of the new age of sports where the Dodgers feel like the Kansas City Chiefs.
Like even if the Dodgers were down three runs early, they're like, it's no thing.
We're still going to have three more times through our lineup problem solved.
Tampa's almost like a defensive football team where it's like, hey, if they've got a lead, they're pretty good.
That defense can stand up.
But if they go down, they can't come back.
It's almost like the Dodgers can play their backup catcher,
and he can have a sack RBI button,
and then also have a home run in the World Series.
That was impactful.
The Bunt, not the home run.
And then the...
A Rod hates it.
And then the Ray's put in the Sheriff
his first World Series appearance.
Good for him.
Guy.
Good for him.
Sheriff.
I mean, it's basically, that game was boring.
Charlie Morton got got, but Walker Bueller was very impressive.
Yeah, and as we arrived in Texas, it's kind of part of the reason I don't listen to a lot of
MLB analysis because you don't want to steal people's takes, but Greg, I'm Sanger, if I'm saying
that right, he was saying like, if you're the race, and we're talking about bullpen usage
and all that, you know, they went Morton to Curtis, Sheriff Thompson, McClanahan.
Because they're down.
So the race
Like almost need to start playing
Do or Die baseball, I think
With the off day coming up
With these two games
You kind of need to go to the good guys no matter what
And this is
With Yarborough
I think they're able to do that too
Because it's not Snell
It's not glass
It's not Morton
Yeah so this is where
Trevor Plough
Our co-host
Is
Is not
He has too much of a player mentality
It's too hot
Sorry to talk about you Trevor
while you're not on the show, but I guarantee
Oh, let's shit talk.
I guarantee he's not listening.
But like,
because I'm going to use words
and then he semantically will disagree with them.
Okay.
The Rays were,
were, um,
the Dodgers were up one.
They didn't scratch and fight and claw
to win game two.
The Rays are tied one-one.
They don't have a lead.
They don't scratch and fight and claw.
They throw a guy,
that they've thrown
for the first time
in the World Series.
They burn a bunch of pitchers
that are in a winning effort squad.
And that's why this World Series,
I think,
and these playoffs are boring,
like you're saying,
because when teams are down,
they're just saying,
okay, well, if we come back,
that's great,
but we're not going to really kill anyone.
And we're seeing,
it's like Morton's the only winning pitcher
that got beat yesterday for the race.
When the Dodgers lost,
they didn't have a winning pitcher get beat.
Victor Gonzalez has been very good
and he was good in one inch,
but it's a lefty lefty out guy but but we're not seeing no um you know we haven't had a
a late inning comeback against a good pitcher because teams are kind of like whatever the game is they're
kind of be like oh this is the game and and now the rays are going to hopefully after yardbrough
use their good pen but where i'm out is that i don't think they have a good pen anymore right you're
you're currently out on fair banks i think they're tired
I think they went to five games.
They went to seven games, and they leaned on them so much.
Anderson has six of eight earned runs.
Fairbanks has been getting got lately.
Castillo looks really good, and they've actually, like,
limited him the most in a weird way.
And that's the other thing.
I mean, you know, after with yesterday and the off day before that,
you know, the Ray's good pen hasn't pitched in at least a couple days.
And Castillo's only pitched, I think my stat was.
it's 0.1 in the last week.
Yeah.
So, you know, these guys are fresh,
and that's where I do think, you know,
the Dodgers were the big favorite coming into this series.
The Dodgers are the better team.
You know, I had the patent-in-line that Trevor's stanking credit for,
and now you're taking credit for,
and now BPD is taking credit for.
The Dodgers are the raise with money.
They're really well-run, but they can get the mooky bets on those guys.
So they are a better team.
I just think this series can have more hutspahed to it,
it, but it's kind of this back and forth that we've seen in every series. And with the Dodgers
having the leg up, if they lose today, I don't think they give a shit. Like, I still think they're
like, okay, well, we'll rest our good bullpen. There's another off day coming up. Like, we're set up,
you know? Yeah, I agree with you. We're going to repeat ourselves on the pregame show.
But as much as I love Yarby, I don't think the rays are set up to take, like, I agree with you
that the Dodgers may go Ureus,
and then if they don't have like a commanding lead
or if they're down one or two,
they might go to,
can Gonsland or may even go?
Baez.
They could.
There's been decent, Kelly.
You know, they might go to that second level guy.
So like, so when you see that,
I think, okay, so this is a game
the race can pounce on
because it's not Kershaw, it's not Walker.
But it's YARB and then
and then the Arby's not going to go six,
and then you have to use Anderson and Fairbanks,
and I don't have faith in those guys being the high leverage guys
that they have been in earlier in this postseason.
Right.
So I think today's game is a coin flip and a fun one.
It might be a shit show coin flip.
Oh, today's going to be the best game ever.
Yeah.
And we don't have any bias in that.
And yeah, I'm interested to see because I also think,
you know, if Fairbanks came out today and does two innings and four Ks,
I think Fairbanks is fully back in this series and a force.
Anderson has some work to do.
It was weird that we just flew with him on the plane.
Yeah, and we saw Pete Fairbanks on the plane, which was pretty cool.
I owe that guy an apology.
Did you see my tweet about that?
They gave us those like wipe your hand things when you get on the plane.
And because when we passed that guy, I threw mine at him.
I saw that.
I saw him say, oh, thanks.
Yeah.
Why did you throw it at him?
I just gave it to him to be silly just because, like, I don't know.
that's like the last thing he'd expect.
What did he say?
We're figuring it out.
He just,
he like half laughed and was half like, dude,
like it's COVID and stuff.
He can't do that.
I watched you do it and it,
it didn't sit well with me if I'm being honest.
It didn't say well with me,
BPD.
It just happened and I don't know why you brought it up.
You told Treve the other day
that you try to be normal around people
and not scare him off.
Once I know them,
I knew that guy because we talked to him.
That's my whole thing.
So you're very quick.
Yes.
You have a two-second combo with him.
I'm the most extroverted, introvert in the world.
Once that seal is cracked, it's on.
Your level of knowing someone is just way different than I think normal people's.
We had a nice conversation with that guy at breakfast.
At breakfast.
He walked.
What would you call it?
What meal were you eating?
I was the only one eating food.
Zach got food too.
I got food as well.
No one was eating at that point.
He walked by, said,
are you really John Boy?
I love the video of Brasso hitting the Chapman home run.
He said which one of you is John Boy?
Yes.
And then he said I love the video.
That was my favorite.
Yeah, we had a nice talk with him.
Maybe a minute, Max.
And we saw him at Checkin, too.
We've known that guy for a while.
Anyways.
At Checkin, Jake said Raise Up and he said, yes.
This has been, and he's Pete Fairbanks, so we know him.
And we later saw him at baggage claim.
Thank you, David.
I do think that.
We're basically dating.
I do think that he is Fairbanks' brother.
He's related.
Where's Fairbanks from?
Where's Fairbanks from?
Find out.
So let's spin this back to the race.
Because, okay, Justin Turner play great.
Mookie stays hot.
He's an MVP candidate.
We're pretty hot on the Dodgers for this series.
If you are the race and you're grasping for some straws,
a Rosarena hits another home run because he's a nut job.
And he does hit it off Kenley.
So again, if we're talking about things that could be impactful in this series,
A, is Kenley back to being a problem.
If a Roserayanan-B.
And B, is a Roserana special.
Yeah.
If you're the raise, you can still hang your hat on that a little bit.
You know, and with Eureas today, the lefty, Rosarena's numbers were crazy against them.
Your penis.
Clip him in the first inning.
Get a lead.
Problem soft.
Boom.
He's too young.
Okay.
Ureas only gives up home on the side.
Fairbanks is a brother?
Fairbanks is from St. Louis.
How many brothers does he have?
How many brothers does he have?
And does he have a brother named Paul Fairbanks that lives in New York City?
Wikipedia doesn't give that much on the personal lives of Tampa Bay Rays.
I'm not connected to the Y-Fi.
Baseball for the Missouri Tigers and was a minor leaguer in the Houston Astros organization in 1983.
Shane Firebikes.
Okay.
What else happened in this game?
Nothing, really?
Really, not a lot.
Yeah.
Turner was good.
Turner was really good.
Tumooke stole another base.
Yeah, I think Mookie is.
hunting that MVP.
Oh, you think he's stealing bases for no reason?
I think he's liking that he's getting love for the taco stuff,
but I also think Mookie's trying to pad the stats and get that MVP.
Ooh.
I think it's an okay thought.
Muncie, two for four.
Jocktober got a hit.
Austin Barnes batting last.
Gets the bunt and the homer.
Dodgers are a wagon, man.
Belly one for four.
I'm reading an article about when Pete Fairbanks got called up to the Rangers and made his debut
because I'm trying to find out if he's a brother or not.
I mean, he does.
We met him at breakfast.
Paul Fairbanks.
And it opens up with talking about his debut.
Fairbanks says a quote, not about this at all.
And the writer says, said Fairbanks, who admitted to talking to himself on the mound.
so just from the jump he's a mountain talker yeah he didn't work his way into that no no no craziest eyes
I've ever seen look this yeah dude you know some podcasts have couches in their studios yeah
and we sit at computer chairs yes I'm like really enjoying this vibe yeah this is great we
I mean I thought we were going to do a lot of content when we originally set up the office from the
comfy chairs that hasn't
played out as much.
And we'll reevaluate going forward.
We need a lot more equipment to do that.
Yeah.
We got some.
Come check it out tomorrow night as we stream.
But tonight we're going to the game.
Going to the game.
Pre-game show.
And sorry that this wasn't on Patreon and sorry that this wasn't live for the patrons.
But, you know, you're sorry.
You understand.
If you listen to us and you know the guy that flew with us today and he's our best friend and I threw something at him, reach out.
And that's the episode.
We'll be back later.
Love y'all.
Goodbye.
