Hello and welcome to talking baseball special Friday before Memorial Day episode with Chris Rose the race.
Take first in the ALE East.
Hello and welcome to talking baseball brought to you by Draft Kings.
Thank you very much for tuning in, hanging out with us for a little bit as we discuss this week.
Not the weekend.
I was going to say weekend, but it was the week that was in baseball.
It's brought to you by Draft Kings as always.
And it's brought to you by Colin, John Baker,
Richard McGaha. I've never seen that last name.
It's a Mick. It's an Irish name, but Gaha.
McGaha. Seems like it should be McGahn or something like that.
Edward Souter, Sutter, Brian Posick, and Cameron McKinney, our most recent patrons.
Thank you guys very much for the support.
As always, we wrestled some tech devils to get here, but we're all set up.
Jake is driving to Connecticut for the weekend. He's out.
Chris Rose is in.
What is Jake doing?
I think he's just going.
You know what?
I think he's meeting his nephew for the first time.
So it's a wholesome.
Oh,
this is a big thing.
Yes.
This is a big thing?
Now, is Jake going to be a smart ass the entire time around his newborn nephew?
By the way, is his nephew like 13 and he's never met him?
No, no, newborn.
Newborn.
If I had to guess, I think Jake is going to be just a touch hesitant.
I don't know if he's held a baby that young before in his life.
and it's always you always or at least I get that um that uh existential anxiety type stuff
when you're holding a baby like oh my god what if I just spas out and it goes flying out of my hands
like oh so gentle so we'll see how he deals with that I wish him luck yeah I think he's going to do
at least average I can't wait to hear this is this will be good I'm rooting him on
trev how are you yeah what's going on blue I'm doing great um I think Jake will be just
He has those big forearms that cradles the baby's neck just perfectly.
He'll do just fine.
But I'm excited to be here.
I'm excited that Rosie's with us.
You know, you know, they work together every damn day, but it's 15 minutes.
A lot of times I want to say more stuff to him.
So I get that opportunity today and a lot of crazy stuff went on.
And there was some good baseball.
There was some really, really bad baseball that's been going on in MLB.
So I'm excited.
I'm already popping in the chat.
I'm in there right now.
You know how I am.
You're in the chat?
Hey, if you want people to talk about stuff, go ahead, lift your lid for a second.
Give the people what they want.
Let's show it off.
Check this out.
Oh, you got a fresh cut, Trev?
Oh, that is.
That's real tight, though, huh?
That is tight.
Presby graduation again?
What's going on?
I look like I'm auditioning for like a military movie, really, but she started going
and what am I supposed to do?
I can't stop her.
When she goes one swipe up, it's over.
Yeah.
Tell her not to start with the one.
I like it though.
I kind of like it.
It's a nice summer cut, Trev.
It's hot out.
You want to feel the breeze on your head.
It's good.
Exactly.
Yeah, I like it.
What I wanted to say to the people that don't know,
you guys talk baseball every single day.
You just brought it up.
So I'm out of the loop here.
I'm like joining your show in a way.
Because I don't,
we only talk three times a week around the league storylines.
If you guys aren't tuning in to the Instagram lives
and then they get repurposed on
YouTube on the JM
baseball YouTube channel. And I believe
we're going to put them on a podcast app because people have been
requesting for audio-only versions of that.
So I believe that's
going to happen soon. But yeah, that's
the quickest 20-minute baseball talk
out there in a good way. It flies
by. And you guys cover
every storyline. Well, you know
what? If Plouf didn't have to go take
tennis lessons or whatever the hell he does in the
morning, we could keep going. But I mean, we have to
keep it to 15 or 20. After about
after about 1150 in the morning
Eastern 8.50 Pacific, I can see him
start to get antsy and he starts to sweat a little bit
in the power alleys. He's like, oh my God,
my wife's going to yell at me because our doubles lesson
9 a.m. Pacific.
That's what I'm worried about. It's not
me and tennis. It's my wife yelling at me.
My goodness. Hey, listen, bro. I'm not going to have good graces,
baby. I'm with you. I do not want
to get on Mrs. Plupe's bad side before I
say hello to her in person for the first time.
So there you go.
All right. Let's get right into
the National League Recap. I
We'll be manning the National League.
It is brought to you by Magic Spoon cereal, the official cereal of John Boy Media.
I don't know if they want us saying that or we're allowed to say that, but I've said it now, and it's out there.
And that's true.
Oh, Rosie's got a box right there.
Oh, I just, I was munching on some of the chocolate, so it's not in this room.
Usually it's right here, but I actually, it was last night, got back from the game and I needed some, a little snack.
Let me tell you something.
You know, they sent me the four pack.
Yep.
Three are in my belly.
They never even made it out of the office for my son who's still here to eat.
My wife got no taste of it.
So I just might, while you do the recap, I'm going to sit here and shout out.
What's your favorite flavor?
I am a cocoa guy.
Okay.
Chocolate.
Although I've enjoyed all three that I've had so far.
So this is the last one I got to.
Which one?
Which one's that one?
This is the fruity.
That's my favorite.
All right.
All right.
So you do the recap.
I'll give you a recap of the Magic Spoon.com slash baseball.

Let's get into the National League recap here is what you guys missed out on.
The Phillies and the Marlins split a four-game set, which helps neither in the standing since
their division rivals.
The Marlins didn't hit that well, but they got on base at a good clip.
Philly starting pitchers pitched to a 205 ERA, but the Penn blew it with a 675 ERA.
It was a 9 to 6 game.
There was a 2-0 game, a 4-2 game, and a 3-2 game, so they're all relatively close matches.
Hoskins goes 5 for 13 with two homers.
Migi Rojas, Chris Rose's son, his content son, placed on the IL after dislocating a finger on 2.
on Thursday.
Harper.
Yeah, that sucks.
Harper placed on the 10-day I-L.
Now was the whole storyline with Joe Gerardie keeping secrets more on that later in the show.
The Cubs sweep the pirates.
That doesn't matter for the pirates, and it's not something we wouldn't have guessed.
But it's great for the Cubs as they keep rolling.
They've now won nine of their last 11.
Their hitters went off slash 278, 328, had five home runs.
Cubs starters pitched to a three E.R.
The relief pitchers pitched nine shutout innings.
Bryant had six hits, home run, four rebrys,
and says here, Bayez, wild play.
But I don't think we should be using Baez's name in that play.
Like, I think we should be using the pirates,
Will Craig and the Pirates,
turn the dumbest play you will ever see in baseball.
And that's the real loss.
That was more embarrassing than getting swept,
if we're being very honest for Pirates.
Next up, the Reds take two of three
from the Nationals, which pushed the Nationals to dead last still,
but now four games out in the East,
which is like the furthest separation we've had in the NLEs for a while.
The Reds hit pretty well.
Nationals did not.
Red starters pitch to a 144 ERA.
Sonny Gray six shutout innings for his first win of the season.
He now has a 220 ERA in May.
Winker gets five hits.
Soros gets four hits and two homers.
Senzel needs surgery on the left knee.
We'll miss four to six weeks.
Uh-oh.
The Mets
stay hot.
They take three out of four
from Jake's Rocks.
Grom makes his return.
They have a double header.
Stroman and Lucchese pitch.
Offense struggled for the Mets,
but it doesn't matter because the starting pitchers
pitched to a 218 ERA in 20
innings. The relief pitchers
were even more lights out.
Man,
Mets stay in first place.
Padres and Brewers, they split a series,
which I guess is good, but I found it
kind of boring. I wanted one to take lead there. Both offenses were awful. The brewer's starting
pitchers pitched to a 1-88 ERA, but their bullpen kind of blew it. Padre's pitchers, 2-7 ERA in the four
games. J.BJ. had a walk-off single. Adamus, new to the club. Go-ahead three-run, Homer,
in the seventh for the Brewers. Grisham and Nola placed on the 10-day-I-L. Machadoado
doesn't start Thursday with a little bit of shoulder issue, but he does pinch hit and gets the game
tying RBI double in the eighth.
the Giants
After I declared them dead
Half joking half seriously
Sweet
Jake's D-backs
What's the T-backs
Record lately?
Are they like two for their last 20?
They had been bad
Ten of the Giants
22 hits went for extra bases
Wow
That's cool
They were relievers
The Giants pitched eight shutout innings
Lengori had four hits
A Homer and RBI
Rough to undergo MRI
After exiting Wednesday
with hamstring belt placed on the 10-day IL.
Man, that's a plumber.
So that's all the National Series.
That's where we stand.
That's your update.
Jimmy, to answer your question,
three wins in their last 20 games for the Diamondbacks.
And they lost 11 straight.
So I guess two.
I was pretty close.
You were like being like joking about that.
I was trying to go to an extreme of bad.
Turns out I was very close.
The Debecks have won three of their last 20.
Yeah, pretty bad.
pretty bad baseball going.
Guys, we've got multiple double-digit losing streets going on right now,
which is a rarity.
You've got the Diamondbacks at 11 and the Orioles at 10.
Ouch.
Which makes sense.
I mean, if you were to ask me a couple of teams who would have those kind of losing
streets, I would have said, Diamondbacks, Rockies, Orioles, Pirates.
Yeah.
Peggers.
Yep.
Pittsburgh's at 6.
So who do they play next?
They play.
Colorado.
Maybe they'll break it.
Oh, my God.
Here we go.
Put Cole Tucker in.
My goodness.
The guys had seven at bat since they called them up.
He pinch hit in like the blowout game, had one start, went one for fourth a double.
Let's go.
Let's get this guy in the game.
Jim, we talked to, you're talking about the Hobby Baez play and Will Craig and all this stuff?
Yeah, we can talk about that now.
I don't have it scheduled for later in the show.
Do you see what Shelty said after the game?
Like, that's on me.
That base has been there for 140 years.
Like, we have to know where the bases.
Like, it was a.
I can only imagine what that dude was saying to that clubhouse because it wasn't just Will Craig.
It was it was majority Will Craig, but someone had to yell.
Exactly.
Left fielder.
Anybody.
Anybody.
Dougout.
Anybody.
I mean, I did the breakdown on it.
If you don't know what we're talking about, you can why.
I don't know how to explain it succinctly just in words, but.
Well, it's probably the most watched video outside of anything that show Hey, O'Tani is.
done this season. So everybody knows what we're talking about. This is on, so I went back and watched
it about a million times yesterday. And the first tweet I had when I first saw it just watching it live
was like, wow, what an amazing play Hobby Baez made. And then I went back and watched it, like I said,
a gazillion times. The first thing was, this play never happens if Javier Baez actually runs hard
down the line. He kind of loafed it, which meant that he had the ability to stop 15 feet before
first base instead of maybe kind of going all the way through.
So it doesn't happen if Bobby's not running hard.
And then Craig starts to take a few steps forward as Baez starts to go back.
But the three craziest things for me was Rizzo's reaction where he has doubled over
and felt like he was watching at Chris Rock or Dave Chappelle set.
He was laughing so hard.
Number two is the fact that Baez called Contreras safe at home plate before then running
and sprinting to first base.
And the last thing was, what is going through Will Craig's mind when he's about three people from home plate?
Is he really thinking like, holy shit, I am about to make baseball history and the kind I don't want to.
Like those were the three things that popped into my head when I watched it.
I don't think any of them, I read that Hobby in his post game admitted like he didn't know the rule.
Because the first thing is if Hobby knows the rules, he doesn't even attempt that.
but because he thinks the longer he gets in a rundown,
the longer he's giving Contreras a chance to score.
Even if after Contreras scored,
if Ruff just tags Javi, the run doesn't count.
Yes.
So if anyone knew the rule,
it would never have happened.
But Javi didn't.
I thought it,
but I had to check it because I was like,
I just don't want to be wrong here when I make the breakdown.
But Jake and I were like, no.
I mean, it would still not count.
it's a force.
Yes.
But yeah, so...
I don't know, man.
Like, how do you not know that rule?
That's...
I can get it if you don't know
when the infield fly is enforced,
maybe, or something like that.
But...
You know what through,
what I think through everybody
was that there was an attempted play
on a guy at home.
And I think that...
I know, I get it.
I understand what you're saying,
but I think that's what just...
I've never seen it.
I watched that.
Thousands and thousands and thousands of hours of baseball.
And I've never seen that play.
It gets dumber and dumber the more you watch it, which I wanted to.
I was trying to highlight my breakdown.
Because one, just step on first.
You're two feet away.
Okay, you've committed.
He's dragged you into the rundown.
Like he won that.
Now you're just there.
So when he decides to throw it to the catcher, he has Hobby pinned.
He's in arm's reach.
Hobby has nowhere to go.
deciding to throw it is dumber than being baited into it almost
I told Chris that this morning I said I audibly gasped when he let go of that ball
to home plate because literally he chased him down to tag him out
now he has him in a corner where he cannot go anywhere and then he lets go
the freaking ball and then how is the second baseman because still at the second
basement is just standing at first saying hey throw it to me
and he catches it the run still doesn't
count. It would have just been a force out and the run doesn't count. But instead, they try to
hit him on the run. He misses it. The right fielder backing up. He misses it. Throw it to second.
They maybe could have got him there, but the guy tried to tag him before catching it. He missed it.
And then it led to another run. And then it led to another misplay by Will Craig. And then it led to him
hitting himself in the head with his water bottle in the dugout. Yeah, so I'm going to have to
text, Cole. I didn't text him yesterday because I figured, like, I don't know. I'm going to text
him today and see what he said, like what happened in the club.
I'd be shocked if he's not starting today.
It's not everyone.
Like I know Will Craig's didn't take the brunt of it, but it's crazy.
It's the dumbest place.
Like Adam Fraser is a good defensive second baseman.
Where was, I mean, he was, I think he was trotting off the field.
Like he was thinking like, okay, this is never going to go wrong.
And it's terribly wrong.
And it probably, it probably takes away from the fact that like the Cubs just swept the series.
And all of a sudden we're like, oh, yeah.
Yeah, they've won eight of ten.
Are they any good?
Like, I think at some point we'll have to discuss that.
I don't know if it's now.
But the Cubs are winning.
I think, you know.
Jimmy, do you think that they're going to trade one of their big guys?
They'd have to really, they'd have to really be out of it.
Blue?
We talked about it already.
I think, yes, and they'd have to really be in first place for them not to do it.
They'd have to be like five, six games up of the Cardinals and the Brewers to keep that core together.
But do I want them to stay together?
Of course I do.
They're so much fun.
It's such a great, talented baseball team.
But they're all on the last year of the contract.
And I just think that, like you said this morning, Rosie Hoyer knew what he was getting into when he signed up for this team.
He knew who's not to make some tough decisions.
And unless they absolutely force his hand to keep them all there, I would say one.
And if they do one, then two, you've got to go.
Okay.
Here's where I sit.
The hardest thing to do in sports and in life in general is to self-evaluate.
Do you think the Cubs look at themselves and say we are a serious World Series contender?
Does anybody think that?
Not with the starting pitch.
They might be delusional.
Okay.
Well, they could be.
But that's what I'm saying is that I think the hardest thing to do is, right.
With this starting pitching, they don't have one guy that's got an ERA under 4-3.
All right?
They would not match up with the Dodgers.
they wouldn't match up with the Padres.
They wouldn't match up with the Mets.
They probably wouldn't match up with the Braves if they have to play them.
They wouldn't match up with the Cardinals.
So they, in my opinion, they're playing really good baseball,
but they would have a long way to go from, let's say, a wild card team to making the World Series.
So if you're not making the World Series, then strip it down.
Like, you're not going to re-sign Chris Bryant.
You might not resign Craig Kimberl.
I think he's in the last year of his deal.
So I would say build up their equity, sell as high as you can with those guys, and don't make it a rebuild, just a retooling.
You know, you resign Rizzo, I think that'll happen.
You sit down with Bias and you're like, you do not want to go to free agency.
You're a really good player.
You're not Corey Seeger.
You know, you're not Trevor Story.
Carlos Correa, I'll buy that one.
but I'm just telling you.
It all depends on if their team gives them the opportunity,
if they fall to three back, you know, third in the division and way out of the wild card,
100%.
If they're not, if they're within swinging distance of the division,
one, they might try to respect the fan base.
Some teams by end of that, I don't think the Cubs actually are a team that does that
The Giants are like that.
You know, they will always try to win and try to do the, like, the non-sell.
So, or they just are going to, they're just going to have to really do a bullshit one, like the Yankees did in 2016.
They're like, they traded away their three guys, but they also got guys that could have helped them in that 2016 season and the Yankees still were fighting for a playoff spot.
And in the end, it was like, well, you shouldn't have done that.
Like, we didn't need Tyler Klippard.
We didn't need guys that were going to play right away.
But it's an interesting spot.
They have so much to sell if they sell.
Yeah.
What else we got?
What else we got?
The Mets are playing good ball.
De Grom comes back.
They're first in that division, and this is the biggest lead they've had,
two and a half games, not a ton.
That division's been so stacked.
But the Phillies and the Marlins splitting the series,
help the Mets and the Mets, where were they?
They were in Colorado or?
No, they were home.
They were home against Colorado.
They're playing Colorado.
And now they've got a big home series against the Braves this weekend.
So kudos to the Mets.
They've got 16 guys on the injured list.
16 guys.
And this is the most banged up division in baseball.
But if you look at it, right?
There's no Alonzo.
There's no Comforgo right now.
Pilar, they're a mess.
Lindor hasn't hit.
McCann hasn't hit at all.
Their pitching has been phenomenal.
Their bullpen especially has been locked down.
And I think this division comes down to which GM is willing to pull the trigger.
And I brought that up with Archie Bradley, who's in this division on the Chris Rose rotation.
He said, you're 100% right.
He's like, it's really on five people in this division.
Who is willing to make that big-time trade?
Because I think these teams are going to be battling, not only themselves, like count level between one and five is the closest of the six divisions.
But also there are so many big-time injuries in this division.
Right?
You mentioned it.
Harper, Real Muto, Gregorius, Ozuna just dislocated a bunch of fingers in Atlanta.
So, Roka's not coming back anytime soon.
The Marlins, the left side of their infield is screwed up with Rojas and Anderson going on the injury list.
So it's the entire division that is a physical mess.
Yeah, I mean, but then if it's that, coming down to that,
then the Braves and the Marlins have the most prospect capital.
But I don't think the Marlins are going to be swinging for the fences this year.
I think they, you know, maybe they pick up a piece.
Maybe they don't.
I think they're...
But when do they?
Don't they owe it to their fan base at some point to say,
hey, you know what, prospects are great,
but they're not always here to be homegrown.
They're also there to be traded.
Yeah, I think it's a little too much.
muddled for them to do it right now. I think they
wait another year. I think if you're going to do
what they did and strip it all down like Jeter did,
you don't rush to get, like you have
your window and you're going to stick to your plan. I think
he's been pretty adamant about that. Even though
they surprised people last year in the short and season got to the
playoffs, they're doing all right this year.
I think they know that if they
wait another year,
that it's going to serve them better.
But the Braves can make a splash.
The Phillies have no prospect capital. I don't know
how they're going to go trade for anybody.
I don't really know about the Mets farm system.
But, you know, I think they have a piece.
The Mets have a piece.
Then they don't have to trade for it.
They just need to get Lindor going, man.
Like, Lindor has been so bad.
And if you look back, like May 18th, two hits,
then the 21st, two hits.
And he goes one for three and the 22nd.
And you're like, oh, maybe he's figuring it out.
And then 0 for 4, 0 for 3, 0 for 3, 1 for 3.
Like, they got to get that guy going.
And that's like a free piece.
If you get the guy who's really good to just be himself,
that's your added piece that you have.
And then you get healthy.
The Mets are continuing to surprising me throughout the year.
If they can just keep him going, man, that's all they need.
Wow, you just use the F word to get a guy going on.
No, you know, I don't like to do that.
No, you don't.
No, you don't.
Do you know how many players the Marlins have in their offensive players
or position players that they drafted right now?
Many.
Well, I mean, if you just go around the infield, I mean, Jazz, no.
Aguilar, no.
No.
Cooper, none.
Zero.
It's all trade or...
Zero?
Zero.
Yeah.
Cooper, trade, Dickerson,
free agent, Alfaro trade,
Bertie free agent.
On the bench,
Leon free agent,
Diaz trade, Devers trade,
Diaz trade,
Sierra trade.
They don't have a single, quote,
unquote,
like a lot of those guys
they trade while they're in the minor leagues
and they came up at the end.
But yeah,
they're out of their position players.
They don't have a single homegrown player.
That's unreal.
They had a terrible defensive outfield.
They had trot out.
I think it was yesterday because of the injuries.
They were short anyway going into the game.
And then Rojas screwed up his fingers.
And Anderson was out.
And so they had to move guys all around the field.
I think Jorge Alfaro had to play left field.
And Cooper had to play right.
And I forget who was in center.
But it was a mess.
It was a mess.
But I like that.
I mean, I think chaos in this division is great.
Yeah, I'm upset that it's so separated now with the team in fourth place being four games out.
I like when the fourth, the fifth place team was two games out.
It'll probably get back there.
When you're doing a show next week, it'll be nice and tidy.
It'll go back there.
The big thing for the Mets, that first game of the double hitter yesterday,
Stroman goes six inning pitch, zero earned runs.
He had a guy on base, I think five of the six innings.
and got out of it every time.
And Luke Cessie was pitching game two,
and he can't go deep in the games.
And Stroman completely saved the bullpen
for the Mets to unload in game two of the double header
and go Lucchese, as how you say it,
to Smith, to Loop, to Familiar, to Gisleman, to Barnes.
So that was a big game one-outing by Stroman.
And a one-nothing game.
It wasn't like a laffer, and he had guys on every time.
he's been shutting a lot of people up
he had a bit
he had a lot of people
nay saying against him he sits out
2020 you know
accrues enough time so he
gets the year of service time or whatever he
needed to do then he stops playing
comes back this year
lights out man
really good for that
he's gonna be an interesting free agent out there
he really is
I think he's going to be very interesting
he and Gossman I think he'll both be
fascinating guys
they become available
The other big sweep is the Giants.
They get right back into it.
They're still third in the division.
They're 10 games over 500.
They sweep the debacks or on an awful slide.
I don't have much much on it,
but Giants fans probably want to hear some thoughts.
Treve, your Giants guy.
Yeah, Longo's going off.
They just continue to do it.
They're in L.A. right now.
You know I love the coaches.
Their pitching coach hit me up last night.
He wants to get together.
Oh, yeah?
I'm not to dig deep and say, hey, man, what are you guys doing over there?
How are you fixing all these old guys?
That's what they're doing, man.
Longo has been absolutely lights out.
Maybe I'll talk about him.
He might be my stand-up performance.
I haven't picked him, but I might switch because he's been so good.
So the top three of that rotation has been really good.
Even Alex Wood last night, you know, I mean, he gave up three runs, I think.
And then Descartes Celfani, with the exception of that one blowup against the Dodgers,
been unreal.
Dossaman has been phenomenal.
He's been a top five pitcher in the league.
He's been great.
It's interesting because average-wise,
they don't hit worth of shit at all.
But they are today's
baseball lineup.
Like, when they put the ball in play, they do damage.
You know, Crawford's already got
double-digit moments.
We don't talk about Posey enough.
People always get so mad on this show.
You didn't mention Buster Posey.
You didn't mention Buster Posey.
Let me mention Buster Posey.
336, 412, 603 for the one daughter.
You got to catch her with a one daughter.
That's going to help your team out a lot.
How old is he?
He's 30 freaking four years old still doing it.
I feel like a bag of bricks when I wake up
and Buster Poses out there catching games with a 1.0PS.
By the way, a little known story.
I called his first ever hit in the major leagues.
I was doing Fox Saturday baseball at Dodgers Stadium.
Doing play-by-play?
I was.
I did a handful of games back in the day
and I sucked at it.
It was a rough list.
And I apologize if anybody was listening back in the day.
But I was like, yep, here he is, Buster Posey, their number one prospect.
And I think it was an infield hit.
I don't exactly remember, but I'm pretty sure I call this first hit.
So.
I like that.
I know that the pitching has been better for the Giants than the Cubs because the Cubs,
all their pitchers' ERAs are bad.
And the Giants have really, really good pitching.
So I'm not knocking them.
But just that general thought process, Rosie, that you said, like,
about the Cubs. Like, is this a World Series winning team?
No.
For the Giant? No. So aren't they in the same boat then? Because they got a lot of pieces too.
Okay. Oh yeah, you've been on this forever. Forever. I have been on it and I've had good friends that are Giants fans texting me all the time saying, I understand what you're saying, but can't I enjoy what we're going through the first two months? I said, absolutely you can. And by the way, I don't know if I'm right. I'm just telling you what I think.
If behind closed doors, Barhan Zaidi is sitting there saying, this has been my plan all along.
I am revamping the farm system.
That has started to turn over because for years there was just nobody coming up.
There was never a spot for guys, first of all, because they were such a veteran latent team.
But then they just never developed guys.
And all their entire rotation can walk after this year.
Their entire rotation, they don't have one guy that's locked in after this year that they feel great about.
So, yeah, it's the same sort of situation here.
And, yeah, I'm just going to stick to that.
I think at some point they're going to fade in that division.
What, you're not buying it?
I think they're a little different than the Cubs,
only because a one-year rental starting pitcher,
I don't know what you're going to fetch for that.
So, like, whereas the Cubs invested a lot of money into Bryant,
they manipulated his service time to get this extra year.
Like, they want to get something for him.
the Giants are already getting what they're already getting value from Galsman.
They gave him the qualifying offer one year.
So like they're fine with him pitching them into the playoffs.
Like they don't need to trade him to, you know, for the fan base to be like,
hey, you didn't get anything for him?
Like, no, he's giving us the value right now.
Bryant, on the other hand, they can't let him walk and miss the playoffs.
And then everyone said, you got that extra year or service time?
For what?
But I think they're in a little bit different situation.
Yeah, but I'm talking about, if you look at their roster, in particular, they're pitching, I'm focused on.
Quedo is 35.
Descalafani is 31.
Like, are you going to...
No, exactly.
They're not going to trade those guys because they're not going to get anything for them of value.
Right.
So you could re-sign him to another one-year deal next year, which is possible.
I mean, that makes sense.
We don't know what the economic climate is going to be after this off-season.
We have no idea.
So maybe it does make sense for them to hang on.
But, man, we've seen some teams do stupid shit
when it comes to trading for a guy on a short deal and a rental.
We've seen it.
You never know who a guy could turn into.
Do you know, do you remember the Jaime Garcia trade, Trev?
I mean, I know who Jaime Garcia is.
The twins traded for Jaime Garcia,
who's was a one-year deal, not spectacular, older pitch.
pitcher. Like, these guys have much better records than him. The twins traded Enoa for him to the Braves.
He pitched one game for the twins, and then the twins decided they weren't buyers anymore. They were
sellers. And they traded him to the Yankees for Dietrich N's and Zach Lattel.
So you can get a star for a three-month rental. The Braves did. They got Enoa, who was their best
player until he punched a wall.
I will,
I'll bang the table for,
you know,
yeah.
No question.
Oh, no.
All right,
let's move on to the A.L.
Trevor,
are you doing the AO?
Oh, maybe.
I'm doing the freaking A.
Yeah, let's go.
Here we go.
I got the music playing.
I think.
Oh, I don't.
It's coming, though.
For sure.
It's going to happen.
I just got to turn the volume up.
That's the only trick.
All right.
First, we're going to start off with the Monday
Rapparound game.
Rays at the Blue J.
The raise.
complete the four-game sweep. This one was wild. 14 to eight raised. They scored seven
runs in the 11th inning. Wendell had three hits in it, including a grand slam in the first
ending up the opener. Thornton. Vlad had two homers in the game, but it wasn't enough. The
raise complete the four-game sweep. And now we'll get on to the real series. Indians at Tigers,
Chris Rose is Indians. I'm not even to call them the Indians. The Cleveland baseball team took
three out of four. Neither team really hit both starting pitchers.
for the teams, or all the starting pitchers for both teams did really well.
Bieber, case 12, and gives it one hit and seven innings pitch on Thursday,
and he becomes the first pitcher to 100 case this season.
And my guy, Eddie Rosario, in the series, seven hits, the homer, a double, and five.
Ribbies, you know I love.
Use some Eddie Rosario.
And then some bad news that I think we all know,
please I get placed on the aisle after breaking his thumb, taking off his shirt.
Chris, we'll probably talk about that one in a little.
Moving on, Orioles visit my Twinkies and the Twins sweep.
837, 4, 3, 2.
Twins hit the ball, the Orioles didn't hit the ball.
Twins starting pitchers pitched well.
The Orioles starting pitchers didn't pitch well.
A guy Rob Reff Snyder coming back to life.
Five hits a homer and two doubles in this series.
Some sad news out of Twinkie Land Arise placed on the 10-day I-L.
But the twins get the sweep and Jimmy, you said it.
Are they on their way back?
It's a good start right there.
Moving on to Oakland, the Mariners went in to Oakland
and took two out of three, four two, four three,
and then they lost the last game, six to three.
Both offenses struggled.
That is the name of the game in MLB right now.
Mariners relievers were really good.
2.13 ERA in 12 and two-thirds inning.
Kellanick hits his second home run,
but guess what?
He's not the offensive savior because he's just a little kid.
He's batting 1.45 with a 494 OPS so far this season.
It's okay, though.
He'll be good.
Kukuche had to leave the start with lower back cramping,
but I guess he's going to be able to return next week,
so Jimmy, I know you like keeping an eye on him.
Mariners take two other three.
Big series, Blue Jays went into the Bronx,
and they took two out of three, six two Blue Jays,
two nothing Blue Jays in game one of the double header,
and the Yankees won five.
three and the second game. Blue J slash 275, 344, 84 was six. Homers and the Yankees just
didn't hit. Big story was Minowa making his MOV debut in game one of the doubleheader. He
strikes out seven, two walks, two hits, and six shutout endings. His mom and his sister were
going nuts. It was a really cool thing to see. Boba Chet was going off to home run in each
game of the double header. And then here comes the sadness for Yankeeville.
Uber out two months with a rotator cuff strain.
Luke Boyt to the I-Dell with a grade two oblique strain.
That's tough.
Stanton is looking to get reinstated today?
They just announced it.
Okay, good.
Chapman missed two games, but he should be fine to return.
And then Aaron Hicks, they finally came out and said he's going to miss the rest of the season after his wrist surgery.
Blue Jays take two out of three from the Yanks.
Moving on to Tampa, the Royals.
go down to Tampa Bay.
Raise take two out of three in a pretty low scoring series.
Two one, Royals in game one.
Two one, raise.
And ten inning in two, two, raised in the rubber match, the offensive struggle.
Shocker.
Ray's starting pitchers were really, really good.
Glassnow went off, Fire Eyes, and blew it in the ninth to Benny Biceps,
but then they walk it off.
In ten, Meadows, our guy.
Two-for-four with a home run, a trip one.
four RBIs on Thursday.
And I didn't mention it, but it was Margot.
It had the Wadst.
So kudos to the ooze and awe guy,
Nanny Margoe.
And last but not least,
the Rangers went into Anaheim
for a two-game set,
and our guy, Nate Steele's Angels
swept the two games set.
11-5-9-8.
The Angels hit,
and the Rangers really didn't hit.
Taylor Ward goes three-for-four,
the Homer,
double, six RBIs in game two.
to Justin Upton, let's go, baby, two homers.
And then Ari Hara could miss the season after undergoing surgery
to correct an aneurysm in his right shoulder.
That doesn't sound like fun.
And Gibson and Daw played in the 10-day IL,
although Gibby said he was very much precautionary
and he should only miss one start.
Good.
Need Gibby to get traded.
Top 10 in A.O. War right now, Gibby.
I love that.
Yeah.
Yeah, the Rangers pitching not good.
That series.
No.
All right, Jimmy.
Yeah.
I want to ask you, you were there for the Minowa debut.
I loved it.
Yeah, yeah.
I glued to my TV.
I know.
It was, we couldn't see his stuff from where we were sitting.
We were behind home plate.
So, like, when we got, we did talking Yanks last night.
We were like, did he look nasty?
Did the Yankees just look inept?
They said he looked nasty.
Scouting report I read said that he doesn't use his changeup a lot.
So I thought it was going to be a two-pitch pitcher.
Maybe the Yankees got the same scouting report because then I also heard he uses change up a lot.
But the energy from his family and friends section, because it was a makeup game, day game, weekday game,
of a single ticket double header when everyone had tickets for the night game.
So no one was there because you really had to be able to get there.
Like we walk over.
So they were the loudest section in the stadium by far.
And it was pretty cool.
Like watching them the whole time.
Like they got a foul ball.
They went crazy.
Then they started shit talking everyone.
And it was like, hey, you know, we were kind of with you.
It was like wholesome and fun.
Oh.
No need to shit talk Glaber Torres now.
Like, we're cheering for you.
Really?
See, we didn't get that part of the story.
Yeah, they started doing some like overrated chance and like this.
And it was like.
Yeah, the family and friends section for Manila.
And it was like, well, what are we doing?
Like, we're with you.
Like, congrats.
A very feel good story.
No need to go.
taking shots at our shortstop now.
Come on now.
Obviously they could do whatever they want.
It didn't really.
But it was a little bit like, wait, we were with you.
At one point they chanted, we can't hear you.
And it was like, who you're talking to?
There's no one else in the stadium.
Were they chanting that Manoa's overrated because it's just one start?
No, I'm happy for Manila.
Big boy, 6-6-2-60, I think.
He looked nasty.
I watched the highlights.
And his shit's moving all over the place.
He's kind of funky.
Like, he's making people look.
dumb. I loved it. I thought yes did a great job covering the story, even though it wasn't their
story. Yes is the best. I really thought that they did a great job. And the interview that
his mom, Susanna did with Hazel May before the game, I thought was just great. She was talking
about how emotional she was. She was crying from the first pitch on. Yeah. And, you know, the strikeout,
I said this on our Instagram live show today. I said after she kissed her husband,
and hug her daughter,
she was like looking around for more people to hug.
And it was like Jim Valvano after the 1983 NC State Wolfpack won it all.
Like he was looking for somebody to hug.
And I felt the same way watching her.
And just an amazing story.
Alec was talking after the game where he said,
you know, my mom is everything to me.
I remember nights where we'd sit at the dinner table and she wouldn't eat so that we could.
Like all of a sudden that shit hits home.
That's some real stuff.
like when your mom is making the decision to not put food in her body so that her kids can be taken care of
and now she's watching her son make his major league debut in Yankee Stadium and they all that family's Yankees fans
really I can't I thought he's from west Virginia or something he's from Florida oh yeah he's from
Florida but he went to West Virginia and it was the 11th pick in the draft a couple years ago so
the story itself is what I live for and I can't get it.
And I start tearing up and shit like that.
I'm sorry.
Oh, so do I.
I love you.
I was watching like, because we, we tweeted it.
So I just saw.
But it was also cool.
I'm a big time people watcher at stadiums.
Like I just like look around.
I was actually getting very jealous of all the male pattern balding men sitting in front of me.
I kept telling Jake, like, look how free these guys are.
They don't give a fuck.
They've completely just told the world they don't care about what their head looks like and they're just out here.
And I'm like, because then there's some people that are hanging on to it.
And I'm like, that sucks, man.
You should just look at this guy.
So I spent the whole first game looking at bald heads getting jealous in a very odd way.
But I also-
How many glasses in were you?
Because you had a few wine glasses I saw on your Instagram.
Yeah, so that was the guy we were with offered us wine and we were like wine.
And then we were about to do the pregame show.
So we're like, yeah, get some wine.
That's funny.
So I was actually, I would credit the gummy for the bald, the bald thoughts.
Wow.
A ballpark with some V-node.
Really?
I might have fallen asleep.
The wine was game two.
Where were the gummies?
What eating was that?
That was, you know, as soon as we left the office.
Walk on over and then enjoy the day game.
I cannot wait until we're all together for the all-star game.
Yeah, that's going to be fun.
So what I was going to say is I was just watching that crowd the whole time.
And what was really cool, I don't know if they showed this was every time.
a new family member or friend came,
they did the hug rotation.
You know what I'm saying?
Like there was a woman who came
like in the third inning.
So she came like running down.
And then like mom hugged her and they hugged her.
So it was like they had that feeling over and over again every time people.
And that's what I was watching.
And I was like, oh, this is great.
So I like that.
So good for Alec Manoa.
I did go on record on one of our shows recently and say,
that the name Alec is the softest name you can give your child.
Because Alex exists.
He's with a K though, I think, right?
It's with a K, which is like, you know, trying to be cool.
But like Alex exists.
And X is the coolest letter in the alphabet.
So just so it's tough, tough breath.
I feel you there, Jen.
So he's definitely not a soft guy.
He looks like a bad.
No, he's overcome it.
It's kind of a boy named Sue situation.
So wait a second.
Do you know, I don't want to pry too deeply in the family talks,
but do you know what you're having?
No, we don't know yet, but we have names chosen.
Are they all X related?
No.
No, I mean, you just kind of...
No, but I'm not replacing an X.
Yeah, you don't want to give your kid that much pressure to be cool.
If you give your kid an X name, it's...
He has to be cool.
Treble like if it's a girl, naming it after his wife.
Oh, cool.
I love that, man.
That's sweet. That's very nice.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
Broomhilda.
What I want to ask is the Indians, Rosie, they're in second place.
Yeah.
They, what are your thoughts here?
You know, as you talk about the Giants and the Cubs and we say they're not World Series teams,
the Indians, despite ownership, win.
Like, they have a winning record of their second place.
Do you know that Tito just won his 700 game as the Indians manager?
Just won his 700.
As the Indians manager?
As the, just the Indians.
He won't even be remembered.
as an Indians manager when it's all set and done. That's crazy. And I think maybe the only team
that has more wins than the American League since he took over in Cleveland's the Yankees, but it might be
the Indians. It's very close. So he is a wizard. He's unreal. And I think my 20-year-old son, Josh,
asked, he said, Dan, what do you think we can top out at this year if things go great? And I said,
maybe 86 wins.
That's if things go great.
They just don't hit with a dam,
and they just lost Bron Mill Reyes for about six to eight weeks.
And they, I mean, really, you look at that lineup.
The guys, they're trolling out there.
You're like, oh, my God, is this like a B-League game,
a backfield or something?
It's just not good.
And the police...
But that's what people think.
They really don't.
I have to stop you there.
Beaver, who has not...
looked the same until yesterday. I think he was
really, really slowed by getting
COVID before spring training.
Plesack has been phenomenal, with the
exception of like two to three
ugly starts, but now
he's gone for a while. And
Savali's been great.
They have three good pitchers.
Well, now it's two. Plac's gone.
I'm just saying, like, they always
have three good pitchers there. But you know
what's really
enabled them to be as good
as they are is this bullpen? Like, Brian
Sean, by the way,
has the worst facial hair going to Major League
Baseball. I don't know if he glued
Grillo pads to his face. I don't know
what has happened. He has been
amazing since they brought him back.
Class A
throws 102,
and James Carinchev, who's a nut job,
who's been really, really good.
So they got three guys that are very dependable back there.
So you have really good pitching is what you're telling me.
But I stopped you
after the pretext.
Dude, I've seen it up close and personal.
It doesn't matter who they come up.
They develop pitchers.
Which is unreal.
They don't have to draft them.
They could get guys traded over there and they can help them.
They know how to develop and have guys to produce for them at the baby level.
It's just time after time after time.
And like Jimmy's saying, they're trying to freaking lose and they just can't.
Well, they're not trying to lose.
I disagree with that assessment.
I think some teams are.
They're not trying to lose.
They're trying to win with spending zero.
zero.
I don't think the, I don't know, you're much closer.
I don't think the owner's trying to lose,
but they don't care about the results, I don't think, right now.
No, I think that they know that they're good at,
that their front office and their dugout management is so good
that they won't ever be a 70 win team.
You think that they, they, you think the front office this offseason was like,
hey, man, I'm going to put out a world team.
series contender this year.
But there's a big difference between the front office and the ownership.
I think they work hand in hand.
Look, they had a guy who was being recruited by the Mets, and he didn't go there.
So Chernoff was being recruited by the Mets by the richest owner we have in this sport,
and he decided to stay.
Why?
So he could go build a $45 million champion?
No, he likes it there.
the people, it is a wonderful sports organization.
The owner whose net worth is top 10 in the sport
has decided not to pump that into payroll.
And by the way, I've always said this.
It's your money.
You can do whatever the hell you want with it.
But man, it's...
I don't know.
I disagree with that statement.
Do you think they should trade Ramirez?
I was on board of that.
I was at the beginning of the year.
and I had guys calling me saying, stop saying that.
They were people that were saying from Cleveland
where it was like, stop saying that.
And I'm telling you, people are hearing you talk about that
in Cleveland Radio.
You have to stop saying it.
I said, why should I stop saying it?
It's like you're going to waste him for an 83 win team.
If you really want to scrap it and start over, go for it.
Because the guys you've brought up.
They could get a lot for him.
He's got the two.
Oh, yes, they could.
He's got three years, two more years after this year,
and it's cheap.
It's 10 mil for a year.
They could get a lot.
They got them to sign that contract
reward themselves by go and get prospect capital out of it.
One million percent.
And unfortunately,
one of the teams they could have traded him to,
the guys figured it out at third base.
And that's Austin Riley.
I know.
We were on that a little bit.
They could also flip Shaw.
You know, they got him as a rental if he performs.
Everyone needs relief help.
Treve, your twins.
They sweep the Orioles.
Ref Snyder, that's a blast from the past name for Yankees fans.
He was the first of the baby bombers.
He was the first of, it was like,
Ref Snyder, Judge, Gary Sanchez, Greg Bird, Luis Severino.
That was like his class, and he was the first one to come,
and he never really performed for the Yankees.
But they sweep the Orioles.
They now have won five of their last six.
or six of their last seven.
They have the Royals coming up, then the Orioles again,
then the Royals.
They could really make some stuff happen here with the schedule.
Then they have Houston and the Yankees.
So I'm rooting for them to get back in the mix.
I like the Minnesota Twins that lose first round of the playoffs.
I don't like the Minnesota Twins that don't make the playoffs.
Hey, look, they're nine games under 500 right now.
And like you said, Royals, Orioles again.
They could get close to 500 coming up here pretty soon.
And then all bets are off, man.
They had what we all thought was a team that was going to win 90 plus games.
Did they underachieve right away?
Sure, but that doesn't mean that they can't go on a run.
They need Buxton back.
I actually haven't even checked in on him.
Once's he coming back?
No time soon.
No time soon.
And Maeda just went on the record list.
I know he hasn't pitched great, but by the way,
They're not coming back in this thing.
I'm sorry, I'm sorry to piss on this idea.
They are not coming back.
They're not.
Okay.
They're playing shitty teams right now.
And everyone gets to play those shitty teams, though, at some point in the year.
That's just part of the schedule.
Do you think they can beat the White Sox?
I do think they can beat them.
I don't think they're going to.
But, like, I think they're going to make it competitive.
They're eight and seven against teams over 500 right now.
Yeah, we know.
That's what they were last year, too, and they won it.
That's always been their problem.
Yeah.
They're not making it.
They're not nearly as good as the White Sox.
Let's remember the White Sox, they've lost two key pieces of their outfield, right?
Your guy, Luis Robert, Eloy MNES, nothing from them.
And there's still nine games over 500.
Yeah, look, I think the White Sox are better right now, for sure.
And I think they're going to be better overall.
but that's not to say that twins can't make a push
in the coming months
if they decide that they are not going to be there
they have some pieces to sell too
so it's going to be interesting.
They're an interesting case study
and hey we thought we were really good
going into the season we got up to a poor start
we have some of the guys like what do we do?
I look at them and they're not better than the Yankees,
the rays, the red socks.
We know they're not better than the white socks
and they're not better than...
I think they're very comfortable to the red socks.
really i do i don't i don't believe in the red socks that much so i guess i'm telling myself i don't
really believe in the twins either well we did say you and i both said that we have to wait through
the month of june to deliver a verdict on the red socks yeah yeah because that month of june is
nasty and they just lost first place to the race who take two out of three from the royals
and the rays are looking good right now and they're doing fun things ever since choy uh got
back and they were able to and they've traded adamas and they have more flexibility in the infield
they kind of been able to do their matchup, their thing again,
lineup-wise, it seems, and then the pitching is good.
The other thing, the Angels in Texas,
the basement of the A.L. West,
angels sweep the Rangers.
If anyone has any thoughts on that,
you can share them?
I don't have any thoughts on it.
No.
Jimmy, I heard your diatribe about the Angels.
I've been saying the same thing for years,
and like three times a year I lose my shirt.
shit about the Angels.
Because we're the only fucking sport where the best player does not play in the most meaningful
games.
Yeah, ever.
It pisses me off.
And now Otani, they gave Rendon all that money when Cole wanted to be on the West Coast
or they could have saved for Bauer.
By the way, how pissed would you be?
We talked about this today on our Instagram live show.
How pissed would you be if you had bought a ticket last night to go watch Atani pitch?
And because the fucking guy gets stuck in traffic and then it has to take the BART system.
scratch till today. How pissed
would you be? Yeah. Hey,
Bart sucks though. I feel, I feel
his pain. They run these shuttles all the
time. The Bay Area was not
made to have house as many people as
it does. Stupid
tech people. Well, you know,
it's the fact that teams have to stay in San
Francisco. They shouldn't, like
Oakland needs some better hotels,
I guess, because that trip is ridiculous
as it is, but yeah, you get a little
traffic or an accident on the Bay Bridge, you're screwed.
Would you
change your plans tonight?
Let's say you live in the Bay Area and you wanted to watch Atonic pitch last night
and his start got pushed to tonight.
Would you change your Friday night plans to go watching pitch?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I don't know how long it's going to last him pitching.
And I don't say that.
Like, I'm not doubting it.
There's just, it's just crazy.
It's what we're seeing we've never seen before.
So to say like, yeah, this is going to last 10 years.
It is going to last next five years.
I think is against the odds
because every odd
says this shouldn't even be happening right now.
So yeah, if I had Otani starting
in a local game,
if I lived somewhere and he was starting
and there was last second tickets available
that were in my range,
I would 100% try to witness
you know, him pitching and batting second
overdoing anything else.
Because I think the people that see that
will have a story to tell
for a long time.
Blue.
let's say you and your wife are scheduled go to dinner with another couple
but you were supposed to have gone to the game last night with your boys
to go watch Otani pitch
would she be okay with you guys canceling dinner
and saying hey Otani had his start pushback
is it okay if I go with the boys?
Probably not and I wouldn't be okay with you I'd rather go out to dinner
what is the matter with you
he's a dinner shot just being honest bro
We got a lot of baseball.
Let's run through the Interleague and then I chugged too much water.
So I'm going to have to go to the bathroom and let you guys direct traffic after we deliver it.
All right.
So this is the part where I take over and I'm going to put you with the Inter League recap.
Here we go.
All right, here we go.
We'll start down in Houston.
It was a 2017 World Series rematcher, so they say, between the Dodgers and the Astros.
So everybody bang your trash cans at home while we're talking about the series split.
Dodgers took the opener 9 to 2.
Astros followed up five to two.
Clayton Kirschaw really good.
In fact, the Dodgers are starting pitchers in ERA under two in that series.
Astros did hit four big bombs, including Altuve, taking Trevor Bauer deep to lead off the game in game two.
Bad news for the Astros.
Lance McCullors ends up on the injured list, but Jake O'Darise and welcome back for their series this weekend against the San Diego Padres.
And the same with Bramberg-Baldez.
We are looking forward to that.
by the way, I hope you were watching what was going on in the seats
because I think we had at least one standing eight count, if not more than that.
Boy, it was brutal.
Braves and Red Sox, two-game series split.
Braves won the opener three to one.
Charlie Morton, seven shot out innings in that opener.
Red Sox got the second game nine to five with the final in that one.
Probably the most interesting part of that series is the fact that game two
was delayed three hours by rain, and they started the seventh inning at midnight local time.
And everybody's going, what the hell are we doing?
I think both teams were off on Thursday, so maybe they could have done that,
although maybe the Union rules wouldn't allow that to happen.
But that was just some really weird stuff.
Red Sox ended up splitting the series, even though they hit just a buck 64 in the two-game set.
And then the last Interleague series, Cardinals and White Sox, Chicago took two,
of three there on the south side. The headline matchup was the Gileo versus Jack Clarity,
of course, two guys former high school teammates at Harvard Westlake out in Los Angeles.
Lance Lynn ended up helping the White Sox win the opener 5 to 1. Then Gialito out dual for clarity
who suffered its first loss in the season there in beating two. And Hard Carl, as they like to call
in the White Sox Clubhouse, Carlos Redoubt continued to pitch well, but ended up in the losing side
of things for nothing in the third and final set of that series.
Perhaps the biggest news to come out of that free game set was that Tony LaRouca did not
motherfuck any of his own complaints.
All right.
I'll tee up the Gialito versus Flaherty matchup since Gialito as part of the Chris
Rose rotation, J. Flair, Trev's guy, and then I'm going to go pee.
I'll be back.
Let us know how that goes.
Keep your mic on.
All right, we'll do.
Well, Lucas is also my guy.
My goodness, come on.
Don't say that J. Flair is just my guy.
That one got a little bit ruined there, Chris, by the defense for both sides.
Jack, in the first inning, suffered through an air on an infielder,
then Tommy Edmund playing out of position in right field drops to fly a ball.
I think they had three errors total in the game.
So I was texting them afterwards, and I think they would have liked a more clean game against each other.
And Jack kept saying, I wish it was in the NL,
but I don't think he really wants that smoke.
The guy hits one homer and he thinks he's a hitter now.
See, you wouldn't call him hitterish as a pitcher.
You just, you wouldn't give him that title.
No, he's a hell of an athlete.
Actually, both those guys are very athletic,
but you know how it goes.
You get in the box.
Hold on a second.
Who's both those guys?
You mean Freed.
Oh, my God, that is terrifying.
Oh, my God.
Look, Jesus, Jenny.
Freed is also a great athlete.
I'm just talking about the two that were in the game.
Those three guys.
I mean, we used to run like football routes and shit
to get warmed up before working out.
And you could see those guys like moving out there.
It's, they're real deal athletes.
By the way, what's your, since you're a guy that played in the show
and hit over 100 homers, you're bad.
How long do you wait to text a guy after he loses a game?
Oh, I don't care.
You go right for it.
I text him.
I mean, it's such a long season, man.
He loses a game.
You're only supposed to dwell on something for like, I don't know, 15, 20 minutes,
and then you're back.
I guess starting pitchers are a little different because they're soft
and they only play it once every five days.
But as a hitter, you're there in line up every day,
so you've got to have a short memory, good or bad.
But I don't care about texting people.
I'll text them as soon as they come out of the game.
No.
Oh, yeah.
Really?
It's their choice that they want to respond to me.
Okay.
All right, good.
How'd the Pigo?
Jimmy. Relieving, refreshing, relaxing. It was the three hours. Three hours. Okay. Yeah, you know what? I really
wanted that game to be in St. Louis. I wanted to see those guys. Look great.
I really wanted to see those guys hit against one another. I just think it takes it to a different
dynamic. I will be looking forward to chatting up Lucas afterward, his next turn through the
rotation on Chris Rose's rotation, part of that J.N. Base.
fall on the YouTube side of things.
Yeah, I was disappointed.
Whatever guy gives up too many runs in the first two innings,
God, this sucks.
So that's kind of a bummer.
The Dodgers Astros was awesome to watch.
It had playoff vibes to it.
This team obviously hate each other.
The fan bases hate each other.
There was a big section of Dodger fans that went into Houston.
So that makes it cool, too.
I would, I mean, I would love to see that.
them in the World Series. I know it's probably not going to happen. Oh, good. I chose the
Astros to go in there. But watching those two teams play against each other, it's kind of like
when you watch like a UFC fight or a boxing match, you want the guys to legitimately hate each other.
I don't like when they're like, oh, I respect, respect. No, I want you to want to kill that person.
And that's, I feel like that's the vibe.
Sans's actual fighting. I don't really like that. Oh, yeah. I don't want the fans to fight at all.
I'm saying on the field. By the way, that was a brutal punch.
That guy through the Dodger fan.
Like, I'm sorry.
And we've seen a bunch of shit go haywire over the last few days in the NBA playoffs.
Stop.
I understand that we as sports fans have a lot of pent up frustration.
We weren't at games.
Our lives have changed.
Some people have lost loved ones.
Some people have lost jobs.
Some people lost marriages.
I get it.
Like we're in a country.
We're in like a tough spot emotionally and mentally.
Stop.
Stop being assholes
to each other.
You can yell, you can scream,
you can root for your team,
you can hate the other team.
Jesus Christ, stay in line.
Maybe the least manly thing you can do
is get into a fight
with a stranger at a sporting event.
Yes, 100.
Great call.
Might be the most pathetic
and beta thing you can do.
Have you ever?
Have no control of your emotions
that you fight someone at a sporting
a fight a stranger at a sporting event
might be the lamest
loserish thing you can do.
Jimmy, have you ever gotten close to getting
into a fight at a sporting event?
No.
I never, like getting in a fight with someone
you don't know at all.
Like, you're just a loser then
that can't control your feelings.
Like, you know, if you're getting in a fight,
make it a brother or a friend
you've known forever.
And there's some sort of grudge
and meaning behind it.
But like, you meet someone for 10 minutes
and now you're throwing hands.
Like, you're a pathetic human being.
you can't control your emotions.
So stupid.
Sorry.
Didn't mean to get sidetracked here.
You're all good.
You know what matchup?
My favorite.
What's that?
We're giving up the Homer to Altuve.
It was like an all-time moment.
UC fans had to love that.
Yeah.
My underrated matchup of the week comes from the Interleague.
Lance Lynn versus Kim.
I mean, Lance Lynn has, what, a one ERA now this season?
151 ERA.
I mean, I know we love Gialito and Glaston and Bueller and Bauer.
No one talks about Lance Lynn the way that they talk about these guys.
And he's the best pitcher.
We do.
But you don't see it on like social media or anywhere else.
Like this dude is the best pitcher in MLB and he throws three different fastballs.
And then Kim is quietly having a phenomenal start to his MLB career,
his first 15 starts.
He has a three-something ERA.
He's got a, no, he's got a 2-28 combined from last year this year.
And this season he's got a 309 ERA.
So no one's talking about Kim from the Cardinals either.
And they both had good games.
Well, I also mentioned Carlos Rodan.
And obviously everybody remembers what he did against the Indians,
taking a perfect game into the ninth and ending up with the no-hitter.
but let's remember that guy's career was basically over in the win right he was non-tendered
former top five pick in the draft he has come out who you faced him right a bunch i have yeah okay
he looks so different like he is throwing like 97 98 spinning it pretty good up there he's got
that good hard slider like he's another guy that he's going to make the all-star team
He has been that good.
I faced him back when he first came up,
and he had that stuff.
He was not a fun at bat.
He wasn't typically lefty-riding matchup.
He felt pretty comfortable up there.
He was not a comfortable back in the day.
Then I know he had some issues.
His Velo was down a little bit,
but he had to come back.
I think it's always strange when you get DFA,
then you sign back with the same team.
You know, it's like, clearly you didn't like me enough,
but maybe he felt like,
like there was a spot for him.
Yeah, he said that he thought there were going to be a playoff team
and he didn't want to miss it since he had been with them so long.
And the clubhouse.
Damn, man.
You got to eat some pride right there.
Hey, breaking news here on Chris Rose's Twitter.
Alec Manoa just followed me back.
Hell, yeah.
Should I let him know that we just talked and gave him a lot of love?
Or should I not say that?
Because I said he got a soft.
name.
And his family started talking shit at the Yankee game.
Oh, I don't really.
I mean, I don't really care about that.
It was just like I was,
the shit they were talking was very light.
And I,
it was all fine.
I was just joking that like I was with him.
Like I was cheering on.
And then I was like, wait, hold on.
I got to separate myself from you guys now.
Because I don't think labor's overrated.
Yeah, you should tell him that Jimmy thinks he's soft.
So I'm going to say,
Hey, I think his parent's soft name.
Here we go.
Hey, man.
Congrats.
Congrats on your debut.
amazing. We are talking you up on John Boy media.
That's right. And love the spelling of your person.
Yes.
No?
You got to talk about this Braise Red Sox game or what? What happened?
Two, two games split series.
I got nothing.
People are you mad about that, Jim.
Two games split. We're running late. We're good.
Okay.
All I said is it was ridiculous.
They restarted a game at midnight.
I mean, the Reds series, they postponed it after the fifth and then finished it,
then did a seven inning game.
So it wasn't even a true double header.
It was like a, it didn't feel like that should have just, if you're only playing four,
then you can play nine because math exists.
And like the double headers is 14.
So then four, nine is less.
You know what I mean?
Plough did not cover this at Crespi High.
I know he was in some advanced classes,
but you're making his head spin right now.
I don't know why they did that.
Anyway, all right, let's get into the second half of the show,
which is brought to you by Dougout Mugs.
I got a bunch on the table here.
Hey, when we go to the All-Star Game,
Doug Out Mugs is hooking us up for our big All-Star Game trip.
And I think I asked them, because we're going to do some special giveaways
and some events we're having and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
And I asked them if we can put like our faces on there.
They said yes, that's going to be fun.
Dugout mugs.
Father's Day is coming up.
Go get your dad a dugout mug.
It's the early bird Father's Day special.
You get 35% off all MLB dugout mugs.
If you use code Jomboy, they're pretty awesome.
They can be just on the shelf as decoration.
You can pull them down and actually use them.
You can probably play some games with them.
Probably like, you know, I don't know, some sort of ping pong ball,
baseball, backyard game with drinking and fun.
involved. Enjoy it. Let's move on to standout performances.
No.
I'm going first, and my standout performance is one of your children, Chris, Tyler Glassnow.
He absolutely dealt eight innings pitched, zero earned runs. He struck out 11.
I only gave up three hits, walked two, coming off his outing against the blue
Jay's where he thinks there were some funny business going on, which maybe not.
But we did talk last week that just the numbers were odd, how he didn't get any swings
and misses on his fasts against the Blue Jays.
But he could have been tipping.
He has got a history of tipping.
So who knows.
Anyway, he comes out and absolutely deals against the Royals.
And, you know, Rich Hill also been pitching incredible since his first four.
starts and it's just a race thing he's got a one two six year a rich hill
have a glass now when he's on it's crazy i'm trying to bring up the numbers right now
on his swing and misstep to see if they went back to normal i i went back and looked at
that game went through the whole first inning took screenshots went through my whole
progression of if he was tipping i didn't see anything he got himself in some really bad counts
some really bad situations there i didn't go through all the endings in that game but the first
ending when he gave up two or three runs, he wasn't 50.
Okay.
Good to know.
It's also a shitty ballpark to get some fly balls in.
It's true.
But it was a swing and miss stuff.
Like he's back here.
He had a 48% swing and miss on a slider in this game.
A 38% on, holy shit.
He had an 86% swing and miss rate on his curveball.
It threw 10 curve balls, 7 swings, 6 swings and misses.
49% whiff rate for every pitch he threw
or every pitch that got swung at.
That's very high.
So good standout performance by me.
The math adds up.
I did a great job choosing Glass now.
And I threw a little Rich Hill in there anyway
because he's been crazy since his first four games.
They were asking for a little raise talk in the chat.
So there you go.
You gave me a little raised talk.
Oh, my God.
Guys, we plan out an episode.
If we know we're going to talk about a team in the back end,
we tread a little lighter in the front end.
Like learn the system.
Stop just coming and crying in the chat all the time.
Jimmy, you know you've made it when you start yelling back at the viewers and listens.
That is a key key thing.
Oh, we're very, I love going into the chat.
I like interacting with the chat.
But like, come on, we have a system here.
There's a roadmap, you know.
Why are you to talk about Shilt?
Well, come on, guys.
Right?
We're not missing it.
Oh, it's coming.
I got a great.
I can't wait to get back.
Trev, what's your standout?
Who's your standout performance?
I'm going with my guy, Willie Adomas.
You know I love them when he was on the race,
then he gets a fresh scene over there with the Brewers.
And last night, he goes four for five.
I have, what is it?
Four for five with a homer, a double, and four ribbies.
And he's just been a guy for them since he went over to the brewers.
350, 458, 550 slug for a one dot.
And the guy plays an awesome shortstop.
didn't hit much with Tampa.
I think going to a ballpark like in Milwaukee helps any hitter.
I also think fresh change of scenery for him will also help him.
So is it going to be a one dot guy?
Probably not.
But you're going to get above average offense, I think, from him for the rest of the year.
And he's going to play well above average defense.
So I think it was a great, this is going to end up being one of those trades that works out for both sides.
So good job with him.
My guy.
All right.
So I guess that leaves me, and I am going with one of the elephant guys.
Oakland A's starter, Chris Bassett.
Last night, who's phenomenal.
First shot out in his career, two-hitter, nine Ks against the struggling angels at the dish.
I think I appreciated his post-game as much as his during-game performance,
where he was holding the 40-pound pitchfork afterward during his post-game interview with our buddy Dallas Braden.
That was phenomenal.
And then where he had his Zoom press conference afterwards, he was in tears.
And I told you guys, I'm an emotional person earlier.
He was thanking everybody who believed in him.
And so often we forget about the struggle.
Like, we've seen Chris Bassett really throw the ball well out in Oakland, I don't know, right over the last 70s.
17 months or what have you. But it was not easy for him to get to this point at all. He was a big part of that Samarja trade from the White Sox to the A's and it took him years to get right, had some health issues, never really got his shot. And now he's getting it. And now he's become the most consistent performer in that rotation. And I just think it's awesome to see and to see a guy appreciate it and do a great job on the field. To me, that makes him an easy selection for my performer.
He gained a lot of fans.
I have the audio.
I'll play a snippet of it because I think it's worth people hearing if they haven't.
That's honest.
There's so many people in this organization that have, I mean,
they have stuck by my side through so much crap.
And I'm just so grateful, honestly.
I'm grateful.
It's wonderful.
Sorry, I need a drink.
I'm sorry.
You're making me drink right now.
No.
He's wiping tears right there.
Yeah, so that's good.
Does Treve need to unplug, re-plug?
Didn't take Treve.
It's a bummer.
Trev's Mike abandons him halfway through.
We don't know the situation there.
That's okay.
It's probably a union, Mike.
So I will say this.
Two things.
I love how raw he is there.
I appreciate it when athletes,
it's part of what we try and do on the Chris Rose rotation,
is we try and bring people on and have people understand how difficult this sport is.
And when you're down in the dumps, who helps you get out of that?
If people are eventually going into the media business and they're listening,
there's one suggestion I would make to all the media out in Oakland who were covering that last night.
When he was talking about there were so many people who helped me get through this,
I don't know what this is.
So if somebody had followed up and said, hey, Chris, I think people would be curious,
what were you struggling to get through?
Yeah, it's my big question.
Like, what's all the crap he's referring to?
Right.
Exactly.
And so I think that, you know, I would love to have heard that.
I think my mic okay?
Yeah, you're good.
No, not good.
I don't know.
I don't know what's going on.
I can hear him.
Yeah, we can hear him fine, but the live and the podcast listeners,
it never really have, or it does.
I don't know.
Yeah.
I'll shut up.
I don't know.
Do you want to leave?
leave come back or whatever
I can uh we go to slump watch anyway
Treve your least favorite segment
you don't talk during slump watch anyway
so this works out perfectly
All right so help me out with slump watch
All right here's the sound effect
Now there's five guys Chris that we
We put on a watch list
It's not you know
Hey these guys are slumping and they're terrible
Sometimes it becomes that
It's not necessarily like who's what the biggest slumps go
It's like a warning
It's like hey just had a rough series
let's watch this next series because if it becomes a six-game thing, it's a bigger thing.
So the people on the list from last week, Justin Turner, Anthony Rendon, Jordan Alvarez, Yondi Diaz, and Bryce Harper.
Now, BPD is going to give us five potential additions, and then we need to figure out the five that will remain out of the 10 we have.
So BPD, who are the additions?
We got five potential guys on our list.
Mookie Betts has an 0-4-7 series, two walks mixed in, and only two Ks in RBI.
Christian Yelich 0 for 8, two walks mixed in there.
Glabor's kind of snuck up on us yesterday during the recap.
We realized he went 0 for 9 in the series with Toronto.
David Peralta, 0 for 8 with a K for those D-backs.
And Anthony Rendon, not O for 1 for 9.
The one was an extra base hit.
Two K's in there as well.
Okay.
So Glaber Torres is a great, great guy to talk about right here because he was on fire.
He hit really well in the White Sox Series for that.
Now he's got an 0 for 9 on us in the three-game set.
It's like what's going on here?
We got to watch out because if he takes that into Detroit,
gives us another 0-4-10.
Now we're looking at 0-20.
So I'm going to add him officially
because we're going to take Bryce Harper off
because he went to the IL.
And we're going to take Justin Turner off
because he went 2-4-8 with a Homer,
2 RBIs, and a walk.
He hit himself off, which is what we want here.
So I'm going to add Gless.
labor and then Trev do you have the list in front of you do you do you do you sitting out we want to
test your mic real quick now now he's out now I can't even hear you can't hear you at all so can we
put Treve back I had it muted oh and you're and it's good and you sound good all right actually I was
about to put your mic on slump watch it's yeah you can put my mic on slump watch it happens every
damn episode um look if we're doing this Jim and I'll I'll I'll
I'll partake in Slump Watch only if we're doing this.
We're putting them on so they turn it around, right?
That's the goal.
Like Mookiee bets, you know?
He's got, he's got to, he's got,
Mookie doesn't need it.
I want Yeli.
Okay.
I want Yeli on there.
He needs to step it up.
Okay.
Brew Kru needs Yeli.
Yeli.
Yeli is for all the people in Milwaukee right now.
Yeli is officially on there.
Now, Yandi Diaz,
he went one for five with three walks.
and an RBI.
So it's a 500 on base percentage.
So I'm fine to take him off
because I'd like Mookie on there.
And Mookie's last six games,
he's got a 182 batting average
and a 364 slugging.
And I mean,
his season numbers,
his season,
well,
actually his season's fine.
It's just a lot of walks and power.
So I'll put Mookie on that.
That's a hell of a slump team right there.
Yeah.
We got some big fish.
Because Rendon is,
saying he went one for nine and then um peralta oh rendone was another edition well he's off
and peralta's not coming so our new slump watch is officially glaber torres rendone leaving
him on yordan alvarez mooky bats christian yelich got some mvipcs there wow can i just say
one thing about rendone yes fucking stop dude play the game the way you played it in washington i don't
know what the hell is going on here. But through two years of this contract, it is unbelievably bad.
He has six extra base hits this year. Every year when he was in Washington, he was getting between
65 and 70 extra base hits. And I'm going to repeat that. He's got six extra base hits.
Enough. Pick it up. Your MVP's out of the lineup. Shohei can't do it every day. Jay up.
Seems to be swinging for power. Now he's at the top of the lineup. Why do you look like he's
You have that who farted look on your face, Lou?
He had a 915 OPS last year.
Slow start this year.
I mean, he'll be okay.
Really?
Yeah.
Hey.
Do you think it's going to end up being a good contract out there?
No, Angels don't do that.
Probably not.
It's the long-term contract with a guy that's a little bit older, so probably not.
But I don't think him, you know, his numbers will be there at the end of this year.
Well, I'd like him to start picking it up right now.
Yeah.
Like right now.
He saw a pool holes and he was like, wait, we don't have to run here.
So why would he go to second?
Oh, my God.
You sign a big contract?
You don't have to get that hustle double?
We heard from very unsanctured rumors and I probably shouldn't even be spreading this thought at all.
We heard when Rendon was a free agent that there were some teams out there that would be very surprised if he signed anything more than a three or four year deal because he just didn't seem like he wanted to play baseball for his whole life.
That was well known, Jim.
That was well known.
I didn't know if that.
Oh, yeah.
Because here's a deal.
I talked to guys who played with him.
Yeah.
Really liked him as a guy, but said he plays baseball because he's really, really good at it.
It's a job.
It's not a passion.
There's a lot of guys that are like that, though.
Yeah, the only one.
No, I know that.
But, I mean, if you would put a percentage on it, is it 10% of guys that are just play because they're really, really good?
Yeah.
I mean, I think that's probably as much.
10%'s a lot.
That's outside.
It's not 75 players in there to do that.
But I would say it's probably 20 to 30 to 40 guys, something like that.
It's still a lot, man.
It's still a lot.
And when you're one of the best and you have that label, whether it's fair or unfair,
I can only tell you it's a guy that played with him for a few years in Washington.
I think, yeah, look, I think his numbers will be there.
Sometimes you need a spark to get you motivated.
Are the Angels?
Is the organization putting him in a position?
they get that spark? Probably freaking not.
Doesn't help the Mike Trouts out of the lineup right now.
Who else is gone? I don't know, man.
I'm not getting a bash him. I think he's going to be fun.
Well, I want him to be.
Yeah. I'm like, I'm going down the gauntlet.
I want him to be good. I'm not like, you suck.
We have a segment on talking Yanks called Cool Runnings,
where we stand a player in a mirror and say, like, when you look at you,
what do you see? And it's just a pep talk. And that's kind of what you did.
You just did a little cool running segment
with Rendez.
I'm very disappointed dad of you right there.
I see pride.
I see power.
Yeah.
All right.
Let's go to Trev's favorite segment.
Dirt nasty's on Fuego.
That means I'm on fire, baby.
Like Waco.
All right.
The hottest hitters of the week were Nick Ahmed.
He went 7.
14 batting average.
He was 5 for 7 with three doubles and an RBI.
Evan Lungoria.
We already talked about him.
Four for eight.
That's 500 with a home run and a double.
4 RBI's.
Vladdy Jr. continues to dominate.
He pops three home runs, 5 for 14 with 5 RBIs.
Reese Hoskins, another Trev favorite.
385 batting average 438 OBP, 5 for 13 with two homers.
Lordes Gouriel Jr.
The other G. Jr. on the Blue Jays, they bat him.
It's like six or seventh in the lineup, but it's always shocking to me
because he's like been really hot.
I think they lull other teams into thinking they're at the bottom of the order.
And then Lordus Griel Jr. comes up and you're like, oh, shit, wait.
Like they batted Rowdy to Les ahead of him, which kind of gives the pitchers a false sense of security that like,
okay, we're to the bottom of the lineup now.
And then you get through Rowdy and then Lordus Griell comes up.
It's like, oh, fuck.
Nick Magigal, seven for 11 with a double.
Dude, he was a cool running guy.
He was like, you need to get some extra base hits, man.
And he's gotten a, since we've said that, he's gotten a couple.
good for him.
Taylor Ward, I don't know who that is,
but he went four for eight with a home run.
Who's Taylor Ward?
Taylor Ward.
He's an angel.
How about that?
He is.
I was like, wait, he plays somewhere.
He plays out here.
I don't, I've never,
he never been on my round.
Yeah, I mean, I've heard the name before.
No, you haven't, Trave.
You're just being nice.
No, you want to know why I heard the name?
Because we, I just did the AL recap, Ben.
That's how we.
Oh, okay, today.
I think I've heard that name somewhere.
Oh, that's funny, man.
Do the light shine dimmer at any stadium than Angel Stadium?
Eddie Rosario, 7 for 15 with the Homer,
and Ref Snyder talked about him, 5 for 11 with the Homer, two doubles.
So that's your infuego of the week.
I can't wait to hear this for me, so excited right now.
Oh, want to go?
Moving on to awards.
My award is the secret secrets are no fun.
Secret secrets hurt someone.
And it goes to Joe Girardi.
Now, I was a Yankee fan when Joe was the manager.
And I know how Joe operates with the media.
Now he will,
I know how Joe wants to operate.
And then how he begrudgingly operates sometimes.
And he was begrudgingly operating
by talking to the media and telling them things.
And he told them that Bryce Harper was 100% healthy
or there was no health issues, no concerns.
Next day, he goes on the 10-day IL.
And they're like, what, what, what's up with that?
Joe, you lied to us?
And he says, I wanted the other team to think he was available off the bench.
It's gamesmanship.
I can't just sit here before he's officially on the IL
and tell you, yeah, he's 100% out and not healthy.
The next day, I believe he pinch hits Seagora and then immediately replaced him for defense.
So he burned him just for an at bat.
And they've had their issues with Seagora and Joe and the sloppy defense.
So they asked him about that.
And his response was, just so you guys know, we're going to approach this different.
I've talked to people in our organization, just a manager's decision.
And I'm not going to share anything who's available, who's not available, who's not available.
because I think it's somewhat unfair to us.
Just like if you were to do something,
you're not going to necessarily share it with a rival reporter.
So that's the way we're going to handle it.
Just a manager's decision.
So Joe Girardi is no longer sharing his secrets
with the media.
Yeah.
And honestly, that's the way it should be.
That is the way it should be.
But Joe did this in 2008 with the Yankees.
And he got a lot of people.
pushback his first season and the media was ruthless to him and he changed and he softened and he
started giving more insight and being a little more honest the rest of his tenure which lasted 10
years but i do remember this as early days with the yankees this was a big thing like you can't
hide injuries from us and stuff like that so i mean i totally get it man it's annoying when
you're like wait why are you lying to us and the yankees do this all the time with boon they are not
forthcoming about injuries at all but
you know, there is gamesmanship.
I think there's games and shit.
I also think there's just like times where you just don't know.
And it gets frustrating to have to say,
I don't know what the prognosis is.
Like we're still in the process of finding that out.
That's what,
how severe it is.
That's what cracks me up whenever like Booney does his post game.
And they ask him about like,
where's Severino status?
Where's Void status?
What about Davy in AAA?
And I'm like, dude, Boone doesn't know this shit off the cuff.
Like he just probably ended the game.
immediately went to a PR meeting
where they gave him the bullet points on every single player
then he goes, sits in the Zoom
and then he rambles off whatever Jason Zillow told him
the updates were or like how they're saying the updates.
And I know Jake's talked about it
because his favorite, who's his favorite, Rissillo?
And Van Pelt were talking one time about
how the whole system is so weird.
Like you just put a mic in front of a guy right before game
and right after game when that's supposed to be like
the Warriors getting into the zone
and then coming down from the zone and just like,
tell us everything.
But what do you got on Joe saying,
I ain't talking to you guys anymore, basically?
Go ahead, Chris.
Uh-oh.
Now you're gone.
No, he just forgot to unmute himself.
Sorry.
I didn't want the buzzing to get into your ears, boys.
My bad.
I think it's paranoid.
It doesn't surprise me.
There is a line to be drawn.
I get it when it comes to
protecting players, protecting your team,
and sometimes there is too much information out there.
I totally understand that.
But people do want to know.
We've never been in an age where there's been this much free-flowing information.
I mean, Jesus, Jimmy, look what you've created.
You guys were fucking Yankee fans talking into a cell phone after games.
And look at the monster you've created, a great monster.
But do you understand what I'm saying?
Like, people crave information.
Yeah.
And so we all want to know.
So when people are labeling, well, why is the media doing that?
They're actually asking the questions on your behalf because you don't have access to Aaron Boone or Joe Girardi after the games.
You don't.
So people who are asking the questions have to be your mouthpiece.
So if Aaron Judge doesn't play for three days and he's just got general soreness and that might hurt the team disclosing that,
or when Bryce Harper doesn't play for several days, and then he ends up on the injured list,
after you've said nothing's wrong,
well, people are going to be like, well, wait a second.
Something was like, people want to know.
They might be playing daily fantasy.
They might just be a fucking Phillies fan
and want to know what's going on.
You owe that to them.
You do.
Well, why would a manager ever be like,
because there's a lot of times
where you don't know how severe something is.
A guy will say,
come here and say, hey, I am not feeling great,
but I think I can play through it.
As a manager, you're never going to be like,
hey, this guy's probably not going to,
He's probably going to go on the IL.
You're always going to say, well, we're going to see how he goes.
Because that's what you want to happen.
That's the truth.
But people hate hearing that.
And then, you know, they'll circle back.
Oh, three days ago, you said he was, you thought he might be okay.
And now he's on the IL.
Why did you lie to us?
Well, he didn't lie to you.
But didn't he say that he's fine?
He said there was no health concerns.
That's the problem.
At the time, maybe they didn't think there was a true health.
No, no.
But what about this?
Because the earlier with Joe, Chris, I had no problem with anything when they were asking about the blowup in the dugout.
And Joe was like, I'm not talking about it.
I'm not talking about it.
But the reporter kept saying, but I was like, well, I'm fine with the reporter and I'm fine with Joe.
Everyone's doing their job there.
Right.
The only thing is, I think the question of is blah, blah available tonight before the game?
Like, we should just say, let's not do that one then.
Like make it like an unwritten rule of reporting.
Like, hey, don't ask about availability of my guys before the game.
because that goes straight into strategy.
Like, they ask it about reliever sometimes, and you can't do that.
I get it.
I mean, I'm with you.
But at the end of a day where Bryce Harper hasn't played three straight games,
he's the most recognizable face, one of them in the league.
Are you supposed to ignore it?
You're like, oh, well, whenever Bryce shows up, he shows up.
When is the right time to ask the manager?
Is it a health issue?
Yeah.
He doesn't have to say no health issue.
It's where Joe gets a little.
He could say like, yeah.
That's the only thing.
That's what the Yankees say all the time.
Yeah, we think he's available off the bench today, but he's battling something.
And it's like, okay.
Yeah, we're waiting to see how it's going to be.
Yeah, yeah.
I agree with that.
But I do think, I mean, this is who Joe has always wanted to be as a manager.
Oh, yeah.
He's always wanted to be, no, not talking.
He and I have something very much in common.
We both eat the same thing for breakfast.
So, there you do.
Magic Spoon cereal?
That's my snack.
So that's the Secret Secrets Are No Fun Award.
But Joe Girardy disagrees.
He says they are fun.
I ain't telling you nothing.
Trev, what's the award that you're giving out?
My award is,
we're going to stick with the Tolkien baseball theme.
You know I love it.
It's the And So It Begins Award.
People will know that line from the Battle of Helms Deep,
also known as the battle for Hornberg.
King Theoden is there watching as the Urukai are descending upon his keep.
Can we...
Sorry, I always...
Everyone gets mad at me because I always interrupt you, Trev.
But can we have the picture of Trev dressed up as Lord of the Rings
whenever he does his Lord of the Rings award show up on screen?
Man, I was on a roll right there, dude.
How much better would it be with that picture over my face right now?
Anyways, Al-Dor.
You really want me to start over?
We're going to start this over?
Yeah, start from the top.
like it. Yeah, start it from the top. My award is the end. So it begins a war. People will know that
from the Two Towers movie for the Battle of Helms Deep, also known as the Battle of Hornberg.
King Theodon is watching the Uriqai descend upon his keep. Aldor, an older man fighting for the good
guys, accidentally slips and lets an arrow go. It hits the Uriqai right in the spot where you
can do them under the armpit right here, hits him.
Everyone kind of looks around.
He's like, oh, shit, did I really just do that?
The Urichai start to go off, and they start marching upon Helms' feet.
I believe that is what happened with Mike Schilt in that post-game press conference.
And so it begins.
We had J.T. Ruhamuto, kind of stirring things up.
Of course, we've been talking about this forever.
But when he sat down and started calling people out and saying,
this is the problem, sunscreen and rosin isn't the problem.
This is the freaking problem.
I'm going to be putting some of my guys in harm's way because I'm talking about it? Possibly. I don't know.
But here's the problem. You shouldn't have done this with Gallegos because it was just sunscreen
and rosin. He really laid it out in plain and simple terms. And I think he turned that clock
that the league was using to figure out a way around the situation. He turned that thing up, baby,
because they have to do something now. The story's out there. More and more people are talking
about it. Like you said, Chris, you had two current pitchers talking about the situation.
And man, oh man, I think that a lot of people who are using these substances to become better pitchers are shaking in their boots right now.
And there I am.
That's Aragorn and Arwen.
Is it wrong for me to say I don't even see you in that photo?
He's in character.
He looks pretty good.
Are you kidding me, Luke?
Jesus.
I'm awesome.
I actually dressed up as Aragorn for like three straight Halloween.
And she told me I couldn't do that anymore.
But it's been long enough.
I'm not to bring it back this Halloween.
So does your wife look at you and like, whoa, hey, who's up?
When I had that outfit on, look out.
Really?
Yeah, I'm like a battle-tested warrior.
I'm the one true king.
Yeah.
It reminded me of the time on Best Dance Sports Show period on Halloween.
I dressed up as Brett Michaels, who was Michelle's like favorite rocker.
And so I actually wore the whole outfit home.
I'll throw it up on my Instagram one day.
They makeup did an amazing job.
And I walked through the door and she's like, hey now.
Hey now.
Yeah, I don't know where we go from now or from here.
I'm hoping the story doesn't blow over because it was a big story with Schilt.
And you know how the new cycle works these days.
I'm hoping the ball continues to roll in the situation because something needs to happen.
I'm embarrassed that Major League Baseball hasn't come out and said something.
I am.
You told me there's 24 hours.
I told you there's no way.
I know.
And I agree with you.
But in my opinion, they had 24 hours to kind of save face on this and make it look like they were being proactive.
At least saying, hey, listen, we understand what Mike Schild is saying.
It's something that you can even admit that you don't know exactly how to handle the problem.
You know, leagues hate to do that, but say, we've been having a very difficult time with this.
We are, you know, we've created our cement mixing task force.
so that we can get on this right away.
It's very convoluted the whole thing, you know,
because there's so many,
and I'm going to try and do a breakdown of that.
The reason I haven't done a breakdown of that Joe West Shilty thing
is because I'm trying to make it into just a whole boiling down
everything into like a five-minute breakdown on the sticky stuff issue in general.
But what's interesting is they're not going to get anyone in trouble this year.
And the pitchers are aware of it,
and everyone's aware of it that they're not going to punish anyone this year because the CBA is coming up.
And what the MLB has said is we're collecting baseballs.
We're doing data test to see what people are putting on the baseballs
because we want to know what's being used.
That's factual.
Bob Mel, Bow Melvin, and Bauer came out and said,
they told us no one's getting in trouble.
They're just collecting it to get the data.
That is factual.
So they told the media, yeah, we're collecting balls.
We're going to check for stuff.
They told the players, don't worry, we are collecting balls.
We're not punishing anyone.
And the reason being, what's that?
I think what could happen is they might start checking guys before they come in the game.
I think what's going to.
They can implement that quickly.
I think what MLB wants to do is from their data and testing,
build that into a report into the CBA and say,
this substance is allowed.
From all our data in collecting, part of the CBA with pitchers is that we have made this illegal
and this is allowed and we did testing.
And that's why they're not going to get anyone in trouble this year,
but they're collecting the baseballs to build it into a CBA agreement on a new rule about
issues.
That's what Brault and Trevor Williams said on the road's rotation.
They said this cannot be solved during the season.
They said it's going to have to take an off season where they do come up with rules.
And those guys were great.
I really highly suggest people going.
It's the 47 minute mark of the podcast that came out recently.
Yeah, they were going to listen.
You don't have to solve it this year,
but I think they can enforce the rule that's already in place this year.
They already have a rule about foreign substances on the ball.
They can enforce that rule.
Sunscreen and Ronson is fine.
When you start, and that's never going to be inside a guy's glove or on his belt,
they can enforce it by going out and checking gloves
and belts before they come in the game.
I think that could happen very quickly and it's not a big deal.
But I understand, like, you know, it is looming into the CBA
and there might be some, you know, back and forth
and what's legal and what's not.
But, man, I just think it's dumb of them not to say something
and go try to do something right away.
It literally is affecting guys' careers.
I blame Larusa.
In doubt.
What's that? What in doubt?
Well, did you hear Joe West argument?
or what Joe West
Joe West went and talked to the media
which I do applaud him
because he doesn't have to
and usually umpires don't
but Joe West sat with um
the media to discuss this
and did you hear what he said
he said that uh second base umpire
saw him running in because of day game shun shining
and the hat glimmering
and the second base umpire just told Joe like hey
he's clearly got stuff on his hat
I don't want the other team complaining
and this turning into a thing
So Joe West, his crew chief went up to him and said, hey, can you just replace the hat?
No fine, no warning, no nothing.
Just if you have a brand new hat, we're going to avoid any potential conflict.
And that was all Joe West was doing.
And then Schilt came out.
And he took a chance to get on his soapbox and used it really well.
And I appreciate him doing that because we need more people coming out on this publicly.
And then we have Rimuto, Donaldson, Schilt.
That list is growing.
but uh
they shouldn't have
I get Schilt's point
but it also
Larissa isn't the other dugout
who knows what he's gonna do
he might complain and then you got shitstorm
I do think Joe Wes
I do think Joe West was trying to just
not have a shitstorm
and then and then Schilt was like no no no
I want to have the shit storm
like if you're doing this let's do it
so
fun stuff in baseball
yeah I'm new a breakdown on I've been telling
I've been trying to practice how to get it to casual fans.
The difference is grip versus spin.
Hitters do not care if pitchers use something to help them with grip.
What's cheating is gluing your fingertips to the baseball to help you with spin.
They're literally finding skin particles on baseballs and they're finding baseballs like ripped
and just because they're using ceramic cement and other mixtures to glue their fingers to the tip of a baseball.
I have actually glued a baseball to my 15-year-old team.
Really?
Yeah, just to walk around the house with it, just to get used to that feeling.
I really want him as a sophomore to dominate.
Okay.
So I'll let you know how that goes.
It's nice.
Like when hockey players, you buy new skates, you wear them around the house for a while.
Totally.
I mean, that wouldn't happen here.
But yes, I understand what you're talking about.
So good award.
What was the official name of the award again, Trev?
And so it begins.
Yeah.
The King Theiod unquote.
Very famous.
I know.
It also starts raining right at that very moment, which I love.
Of course it does.
Rosie, do you have an award?
I think since I'm just here on a fill-in basis,
how about a participation trophy for me?
I don't know.
Okay.
Is that good enough?
Yeah, you get a participation trophy.
We did.
I shot for average and didn't really quite get there.
So I apologize everybody in the chat, but I want to thank you for having me.
It's a ton of fun.
It's always fun.
Both of mine and Trev's awards were big talking points anyway.
Yeah.
The next thing we do is we give out our best friend of the Pod Award.
Out of all the guests we've had, guys that we've interviewed, who had the best series.
So, BPD, who was it?
Our best friend of the week is Reese Hoskins, five for 13, two homers, a double, five RBIs, two doubles, Phillies Infield.
Philly's Infielder, baby.
Yep.
Yeah.
Phillies Infield causing a lot of problems.
Sigurra pinch hit him and then bring Maton out there.
So how you say it?
Maton.
Mayton.
Mayton.
And he is the future of the league.
So Mayton.
Good job.
Good job, Reese.
Last segment we do here is elevator talk.
elevator talk is if you find yourself in an elevator with a fan who's wearing a hat of this team,
we spin a wheel, we have all 30 teams on a wheel, this guarantees that we'll talk about everyone.
We have two minutes on the clock.
Everyone's going to go do whatever research they want, throw out whatever thoughts they want.
If you find yourself in an elevator with a person wearing a Boston Red Sox hat,
what can you tell them?
So I'm going to go look at their schedule.
See who's coming up.
They just lost first place.
So, you know, you could say like, we got to get back on top.
Playoff odds took a big hit, only 34.6 percent to make the postseason now.
That's a big drop off.
View is better above.
They have the Marlins coming up.
And then they got Houston and New York and then Houston and then Toronto.
So three games against Miami.
Get yourself back in first place.
then you got a slock.
And correct me if I'm wrong, that's the first series with the Yankees, isn't it?
Yes, it is.
And I'm going to be in California for a wedding.
Great timing.
Yes.
Well, that's on the game.
Yeah, it's kind of fun how they did that.
Usually they do it how they did the pirates and the Dodgers where it's heavy in April,
heavy in September.
Don't see each other in summer that much when they know it's going to be the two top seeds.
But this is different.
Not seeing each other until June is wild.
It is.
So what else do we have to tell the Boston person something?
Are we meditating for two minutes?
Just talk about how the starting pitching has been good
and we all shed on it during the offseason.
Eovaldi has been, eh, but Richards has been a surprise for them.
I told you guys, he could be good if you figured it out through some strikes.
3.83 ERA.
Pivotta, full pension, Piv, 386.
He's kind of in a bright spot for them.
He's 6 and 0.
That's nice.
How's Kike doing?
I know that, I know
Dugie, Verdugo has warmed himself to the crowd,
which I knew they would.
As soon as they trade, I was like Red Sox fans are going to love Verdugo.
Kiki, another lovable Dodger guy.
Totally.
Oh, yeah, he's performing for Kiki.
He's doing what he does.
I wonder if they love him.
I don't know if they're in love with him or not.
They're in love with Devers, and he's been hot lately.
Yeah, but they also have the Facebook.
player who has done more over the last eight seasons that we never talk about.
Zander?
Yes.
Oh, yeah, X-Man, yeah.
Never talk about him.
Yeah, Jimmy, you're going to love him because he's got an X in his name.
It's cool.
Imagine if they named him Sander with the C, that would be so much softer.
You know what I would have done, though?
Zonder, guys.
I would have done at the elevator.
I would have FaceTime Malar.
I think that is this guy.
uh zanders leading the league and hits good job bogarts all right see you guys thank you very much for
tuning in enjoy your memorial day weekend happy holiday yes
