Hello and welcome to talking baseball.
Thank you very much for tuning in.
There's a lot going on.
So let's talk about it.
Hello and welcome to talking baseball.
Thank you very much for joining us today.
My name is Jimmy.
I'm coming from New Jersey.
Trevor's in California.
Jake and producer BBD coming from the office in the Bronx.
We hope you're getting ready to celebrate a nice July 4th weekend with whoever you like celebrating that with.
This is brought to you by Draft Kings.
Trevor, how are you doing?
James, Jacob, Big Big Dong.
I'm doing great.
It is the 4th of July weekend.
I'm excited.
We're having a little barbecue over here.
We're getting some pool stuff, some slip and slide stuff, hot dogs, hamburgers,
Portillo sandwiches.
We ordered that.
You guys know what that is?
Yeah.
Okay, we ordered it.
It's a big weekend.
I'm excited to talk baseball because.
like you said, James.
A lot of stuff been happening around the league,
and we need to talk about it.
So I'm doing great.
I'm excited to start the show.
Jacob?
James, Trev.
Everyone in the chat, BBD, everyone not in the chat.
Everyone on planet Earth.
Welcome to talking baseball.
I'm doing all right.
Big night.
Guys, little poppy's finding out what he's still got in the tank.
Big Res concert tonight.
We here at John Boy Media, it's the Creed Bratton quote.
You know, it's a lot more fun being a member of a cult, but it's more profitable running a cult.
So, you know, we have a little cult of our own here, but I'm a part of a cult.
I'm excited to see if I still got my dancing shoes on tonight.
And, oh yeah, baseball, hot in the streets, all stars are announced, the Jesse Winker,
bump happened to get him in the dance.
And he was the man.
If you didn't listen to that, listen to that.
So I'm doing pretty well, gals.
What's going on in the Jersey Shore, Jim?
Had a nice breakfast at our breakfast spot.
Some kids came up and said hi.
So nice of them.
Now I'm in this little corner of the house.
I got eyes on the street.
I can look at all the beachgoers.
So that's exciting.
I like people watching.
The water.
72 degrees and low tide at 1.30. That's a perfect ocean, people.
But I'm doing this instead of doing that and then I make some breakdown. So I'll miss it.
But tomorrow should be 72 still low tide at 2.30. Still place. Great. So I'm excited.
Tropical storm brought out of that warm water up from Florida. Trev. You got to watch the flags on the houses.
If they're blowing north, that means water is going to be a little warmer. It's nice.
brings the dolphins up.
Good.
It's all about the wind when you're on an island.
What concert is happening?
People are saying Creed?
That's me.
That's if I get the mic.
It's Rez.
She's a Canadian DJ.
Trev, I've never seen someone control a crowd like she does.
It's awesome.
I mean, it's going to be a rave in the cave.
Brooklyn Mirage.
They just reopened for the first time in like a year and a half.
So it's, you know, lit, I think is the word.
Oh, yeah.
And for the record, my name is not Jacob, just Jake.
Dog's name.
Oh, sorry.
I hate to get someone's name wrong.
Dog's name.
Jacob is fine.
It works.
Yeah.
BPD, you missed a chance to use coach ball games.
Sorry, I'm doing other things.
My job.
Wow.
Wow.
You're going to do it.
Whoa.
I'll shut up now.
Thank you.
Well,
Lou, Lou, Lou,
Louser.
That's huge.
Hey, new patrons for this show.
We got Ryan Hickey,
David Fitzherbert.
I've never seen that name before.
Fitz Herbert.
Seems like maybe his dad's name was fits
and his mom's name was Herbert and they smashed it together.
Davey Fitz is good.
David Herbert works in an office.
David Fitzherbert,
no read on that.
Noah Zoom wall.
or Zemwalt, another last name I've never seen before.
Sanjit Kumar, I wouldn't know how to say the first name.
Ryan Dooley.
Dooley.
Good always sunny scene.
And Emmy Horan, Horan.
Hooray!
For Emily, that's Emma, shit.
Those are our most recent patrons.
Thank you very much to them.
Appreciate them very much.
Thanks.
Thanks, guys.
Nice shirt, Jake.
Thank you, James.
Zarkal.
Rocking the same shirt.
This is our cult.
Yeah.
Trev's not part of our cult yet.
He looked like you didn't even know what it was.
And if there's a, we've had a bunch of NCAA athletes reaching out.
We don't know what's going on with that.
We want to help and be involved.
So we'll figure that out at some point.
So tentatively, you're John Boy Media athletes, but we have no idea how it works.
So yes it's true
The all-star stuff came out
And uh
One
A couple of Braves fans were like take that because of Coon you made it and I was like I had him on it
And then and then they got mad because they were like you didn't have them on it and they showed me the one from a month ago and I said dude
You got to know what you're talking about
So shout out to that kid
You guys want to talk baseball?
I think so. Evan Phillips is a like a huge number one fan of ours he just posted a picture
of his like you know young son wearing a jakes that's the that's the first john boy media athlete right
wearing a jake sucks hat at the cincinnati zoo so that's where we're at nice nice um okay change the tone
immediately here what a pivot before we get into the nl recap obviously there's been tons of news
and allegations and stories uh Trevor bower uh his camp has released two statements or a bunch
of statements now, allegations of, I don't, allegations of abuse or assault. I don't know which
one it is, both have come out on the, the athletic has articles covering it. We aren't going to
dodge it, but I think it's certainly way too soon to really have a long conversation or anything,
but if you're not aware, I would, I would go read up, but be very careful reading because the
allegations in the athletic article are horrible and heartbreaking and absolutely a really,
really tough read. So obviously this is going to continue and be a story. And I think there will be
a time when maybe there's more pieces out and we can fully comment on it. But right now,
I feel like talking about it at length is kind of a, I don't even know. I just think it's not
the right. I just not ready. Not enough out.
there. Um, and hopefully we get more and hopefully all of that. I know,
Trev, you and I agreed on this. Uh, the fact that he's still supposed to pitch on Sunday
is, is crazy. Um, there's a mechanism in place to put someone on temporary leave. If there's
allegations happening that could be damaging or could be crazy if they, if they be are true.
And, and I had a big problem with Dave Roberts saying it's out of our hands. M.O.B said it's like,
well, Dave Roberts, you benched Pueig for missing, for being late to practice.
Like, it's not out of your hands.
MLB doesn't choose your starters.
So that was a big miss.
And we'll see if they, you know, I don't think he starts, Jim.
They put in place, said, like, if there's allegations, all this, you know,
Mickey Calloway got suspended for being a horn dog purve who, you know, sent.
And there's precedents.
There's precedent set for this to, to, to.
happen. It's happened before. So I believe that they'll step in, whether it's today or tomorrow.
I don't think there's any way he's on a mound come Sunday.
It sucks. It sucks. Yeah, we'll see what else comes out from it. But if this stuff is true,
holy crap. So we'll see what else happens. And it sucks for baseball in society.
Yeah, tough read.
If you pull up the open the article, they have warnings.
Just say make sure don't skip the warnings because it's tough.
So let's pivot.
Talk about the actual on the field action.
I have the National League today.
So Jake, can you tell us who this National League recap is brought to you to us by?
Trevor's got his hand up first.
Trevor.
We had a nice little donation and I didn't understand it.
So I was hoping you guys would help me understand it.
The riders.
I'm not going to say what he said about the riders, because I'm still trying to get in the riders.
He said screw the riders.
I'm not, Jesse.
Yeah, we're applying.
I didn't say that.
This is Diego Rivera.
What's the clappers?
Yeah, Trave.
I mean.
Backwards E.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I would, uh, I don't know.
I mean, maybe two people on the panel.
I'm not sure you have to worry about that.
I'm doing an ad read for something very similar to National League Baseball.
It's called back alley at bats.
We've gathered two of the better competitors of our generation to go in the alley behind our building and compete.
Compete at a high level.
If you have no idea, me and Jimmy play Blitzball against each other, and people really like it.
It's become like a huge thing for us.
We've told Randall Gritchick, Allie's always open.
He'll come through at some point.
We told Austin Meds, Meadows, Alley's open.
going to be coming through soon. Trevor Plouffe, I think he wants the smoke, or he might want
the smoke. New episodes go live every Wednesday at noon on the John Boy Media, J.M. Baseball
YouTube channel. Go check it out. We have a lot of fun. It's a crazy production. We have,
what, four cameras and a bunch of people working it. Five? Jimmy's counting. Math pod.
Five cameras. Five cameras. And Zach, like, runs kind of the main camera. And,
We talk to Zach a lot, and that's cool because Zach's jam.
Zach's a favorite of the two clappers.
So go check it out.
It's a lot of fun.
And two claps on two.
One, two.
All right, Jimmy, the NL.
All right.
Let's get to the NL.
You can cue the music.
Here we go, Treb.
Listen up.
I'll tell you a story about a makeup game between the Reds and the Phillies.
Miley Pitt.
Pretty well.
Spike.
Six-in-sitching, Spitch, Foreign Run.
runs. It's decent enough.
The Reds won in that one game, makeup game.
Boring. Here's something that's not boring. The Dodgers swept the Giants.
How about that? It was only a two-game set. Bauer and Bueller get it done on the mound.
Muncie has two home runs for the Giants, Flores, Crawford and Wade all head home runs.
Close games. Three to two at the first game, three to one and second game.
So exciting, good baseball. The Dodgers get the sweep. You know who else got the sweep?
The brew crew, man, and these weren't that close at games.
Brewers put up a 10-run inning in game one.
It was 4-4, it ended 14-4 to 4.
A close game, Woodruff first Davies in game two,
where the Brewers held on a 2-1 lead.
And then the Brewers put up an 8-run inning in game 3
to win 15 to 7 wild games.
The Cubs on a bit of a slide here,
and the brew crew just cementing and padding and running away with their lead
in the first half of the season here.
Another sweep.
The Rockies swept the pirates.
Wow.
Wow.
First two games, the Rocky shut them out.
And then the third game, it was gray versus cool.
And it ends up being six to two.
Marquez takes a no-hitter into the ninth and finishes with the complete game.
Maybe more on that later.
Maybe.
Garrett Hampson had six hits and two extra-based hits.
Elias had two home runs.
Good job by the Rockies.
Not Jake Kleeam anymore.
He's a D-back.
All right, we had another makeup game.
The Mets and the Nationals, they played on April 3rd, and the Nats won.
Come on, Mets, you're supposed to be winning these makeup games to pad your lead.
The Mets did come back from being down 5-0 to make it a one-run game,
but Zimmerman had a three-run home run in the 8th to break it back open.
Then the Mets went on to play three against the Braves,
and they lost that series as well.
So a tough week for the Mets as they only win one of four games.
Braves took two out of three.
Three good starts by Morton in that game, which was nuts because the Braves won 20 to 2.
Wild.
Who cares about that?
I mean, I don't.
De Grum, he pitches.
He's good.
You guys know about him and you like him.
Freeman had a walk-off single in game three after Dom Smith tied it with his second home run of the game.
So the Mets were like coming back and then just not finishing the deal.
Phillies and the Marlins, NL East opponents, they split a series because game three got postponed.
The Marlins hit a little bit.
282 slash line for the team.
The Phillies 186, that's almost 100 points better for the Marlins.
Wow, how about that?
Marlins starting pitchers blew it.
7.2 ERA.
Philly's starting pitches also not good.
Phillies bullpen, horrible.
Duval had four hits and two home runs.
Marte had four hits.
Panic.
Homer's in the first after the trade.
Wow. Harper at two home runs, Velastas had seven, shoutout innings, Pirates and the Reds.
Padres and the Reds, my bad, I read it wrong.
Padres, take game one. Padres, take game two.
Reds. Take game three to avoid the sweep.
Not that much good pitching from the starters here or the relievers all around.
Grisham at two home runs. He said he was getting heckled. He did too much.
They were being mean to him. That's not Grisham. That's FAM who had five hits, including the home run.
Castianos and Winker both hit home runs.
runs, All-Star crew. How about that? How about that? Jake's D-BACs got swept by the Cardinals,
and the Cardinals, they needed that in a bad way. Wow. Cardinals starting pitchers came to task.
We got LeBlanc, Martinez, and Kim, 176 ERA. Seven Cardinals recorded at least three hits,
so they did it on both sides of the ball. O'Neill had five hits and two extra baits hits.
Marte placed on the 10-day I-L for the D-backs. And he was a,
looking to be traded.
So that's a bummer.
And there's your NL recap.
You guys hear me?
Yeah, at first you were quiet, but then BPD fixed it.
So way to go, BBD.
My AirPods got chewed up by my dogs.
So, you know, and.
My bad.
You know, when you listen, you know, that was like,
I persevered because the music in my headphones
were like,
eh,
uh,
yeah,
oh,
and,
it's like,
that's a concert.
I'm going to tonight.
Yep.
Riders.
Or no,
what's the,
not Riders.
No, Riders is the Reds.
There's Reds concert.
Res concert.
There's the Red Riders.
And then there's something else
that you don't know about.
Anything stand out to you guys?
I mean,
the Giants lose into the Dodgers.
Now they are tied for wins.
The Dodgers have 50 and the Giants have 50.
And I'm interested.
I'm interested to see where it goes from here.
I still believe in the Giants.
I think you have to at this point.
Like we're so deep into the season,
they're so good.
But the Dodgers are good.
They're dealing with their own adversity now,
but they're tied for the first time and wins.
So, you know,
if you told me the Dodgers were going to maintain first the rest of the season,
I believe you.
If you told me that they were going to go back and forth the rest of the way,
I believe you.
If you told me the Giants were going to win back first place
and maintain it for the rest of the season,
I wouldn't believe you.
John, the, I agree with that.
And the Giants are playing my snakes this weekend as we race to the one pick.
So that should be fine.
And we'll see what that looks like on Monday.
They actually dropped the first game.
But yeah, and this is kind of a pivotal time of the season.
We've talked, and I think we do it on the Friday episode.
But if your team has a tough week, you see like, oh, they're playing.
Playoff odds drop 40% or the Nationals. You have a hot week.
Oh, our playoff odds went up 35%. Can you believe it? So this final, like, nine, 10-day stretch going
into the All-Star break is going to change the way you feel about a lot of these teams.
So this is a real hunker down point. And yeah, I mean, those NL West teams, I'm bought in on all three of them.
Good for the Dodgers in San Fran. They get the two-game seven.
but I do hate two game sets.
And I guess I kind of got to take this on the nose.
I went on my weird rant about the Mets kind of coming up against some adversity
and getting it tight.
Two games in the NL East right now.
They'll play the Yanks this weekend,
which might be the great recipe for them to get back on track.
But they had a tough week, and the nationals are hot, two games back.
So that's the other thing that when I look at the NLNs,
standings as a whole is kind of the eye-opener.
The Mets get Yanks, which, you know, look, still the Yankees.
I think it's in the Bronx, right?
And you're getting Garrett Cole thrown against you.
And then tough series there.
It's going to be an emotional series.
We know that.
Freaking awesome weekend series.
And then right after that, the Brew Crew, who we need to talk about because they are
beating, excuse my language, earmuffs everybody.
They're beating the shit out of people.
that was an impressive,
an impressive series against
the Cubs right there.
And they're not even
hitting the, I mean, they
crushed the ball, but they're not even an
offensive team yet. I think they're going to
go make a play for a bat.
And then you got that top of the rotation,
back end of the bullpen.
I think the Brewers is going to be my biggest
miss this year,
as far as preseason talking about
them. I said the Cardinals
are going to take down that division easily,
as soon as they got Aeronado.
And man, I missed.
Like, that pitching is so freaking good.
They go out and make a trade for Adomis,
who's been incredible for them.
They didn't wait around on it.
C. Rose made that point.
He's like, they went out and did it early.
And you know, we talk about them all the time.
They are going to go do something.
They're going to, they identify their weakness,
which right now would be their offense.
I know they just put up a bazillion runs.
But they're going to go get a bat,
and then we're going to be like the brewers are terrified.
in a five and seven game series because they will be because they can shorten the game.
I love the brew crew. I'm all in.
I didn't watch this. I'm looking at the actually we had it on in the office, but I wasn't
like really watching it. Um, in the in the game that it was four four going into the bottom of
the eighth and the brew crew put up a 10 spot. I'm looking at this here. The, the cubbies, um,
they brought in Tepera,
no, they brought in Trevor McGill to replace Ryan Tepera in that inning, right?
And they had already surrendered the lead.
It was six to four at that point with two runners on or one runner on and first base open.
The, is this, is this, the first pitcher that, the reliever that came in, Trevor McGill,
he, they intentionally walked Christian Yellich as the first at bat.
is that usually you would see the pitcher that's about to leave do the intentional walk is that to manipulate the three batter rule like well let's bring him in and he will intentionally walk and that's one batter faced because it's an awful way to bring a guy into a game it's kind of a confidence killer but i think it's i think five years ago you say do that for the pitcher leave and don't make the guy run out and then intentionally walk someone you don't have to throw the pitches now so it's different but they intentionally walk christian yelich and then uh two pitches.
later at Thomas it's a three run home run
so it's like a tough outing for Trevor McGill
what I just wonder I guess
that's the side of the three batter
minimum that I haven't like seen and
take place yeah it's a good point it's a good point
I have to give a shout out to I believe it's
let me see Jorge
Jorge says he is my buddy
John Moss got's
parents pool man let's go
his friends by association
Jorge what's up thank you for the donation
fellow pool man United me
you and that
MF for Bobby Skinner.
Talking Giants ad.
So he is a pool man for your parents?
For my buddy John Mosscott.
John Moss got.
John Moss got.
For his parents.
So shout out, man.
I'm going to clean my pool today.
And Jim, another.
Can we make,
can we make custom John Boy Media pool men shirts for you and Bobby?
So he can, like, you know,
tie you a company?
Is he coming to the All-Star game?
No.
No, he's a football guy.
Too big.
So what?
He's going to, he's going to Giants.
Jim, another one that was in that.
a Cubs Brewer Series. The Cubs went up
7-0, and the Brewers came back,
and they won that game 15 to
7. So be careful
if you put up a 7 spot is this week's
talking baseball message.
Yeah. And Trev, you were saying, like, they just
like been beating everyone, and it's like they've been
demoralizing people in their wake.
Like 4-4-4 in the 8th and you score
10, you're down 7 and you put up an 8 spot.
Like these aren't just, uh, they, they score 10 in the first inning.
And then it's an easy, breezy like laugh for both sides kind of like, well,
this one's gone.
It's like they're stringing you along, uh, you know, like Muhammad Ali letting you land some
punches, letting you like feel like you're in the fight.
And then it's like, oh, never mind.
It's like the scene in Band of Brothers when they, you know, they play darts with their
left hand and then finally says, I'm a righty and he just kicks his ass, Buck Compton.
Great, great UCLA catcher.
Oh my gosh.
Um, yeah.
One bullet, four holes.
Yeah.
Let me ask you guys something here.
What can the Braves do?
The three and, I think three and a half game is back.
What can they do?
Dude, they, I mean, this has been a, like, catastrophic brave season.
I think, like, almost anything that could go wrong has, and they're three and a half games out.
It's wild.
Like, that's, this NLE's story has just gotten started.
I mean, the Nats have thrusts theirself in the conversation.
The Phillies just kind of eat bugs along the way.
I think the NLES is just getting going,
and I know Chris Rose said it.
I think he said it with Archie Bradley on the Chris Rose rotation.
Like, those front offices have to be feeling it,
because, man, one or two trades at the deadline
could very well be the difference in that division.
You know what the Braves can do, Trev?
You know, they can win.
You know what back?
They can, they can win seven of their next nine.
They have, uh, they have six against Miami and three against the pirates.
So it's a little bit of a stretch there of teams that, you know, they have a better record then.
They should be better than they have better talent alone.
That's not really shots hard in Miami.
Miami's got great pitching and Miami can beat them easily.
So, but that if they wanted to get back in the race, I think these next nine games,
is just kind of a window of an opening for them.
You got to take care of Miami at home.
And take good energy into the All-Star break.
And I'm circling all these teams, Cardinals, Reds, Cubs, Phillies, Braves, Nats.
I think if you go into the All-Star break and you're above 500,
that feels a lot different than being a game below 500.
So I'm on 500 watch the rest of the way.
Hey, when we get to Denver for the All-Star game,
We're recording on Monday morning a show, right?
To recap the final series.
Sure are.
Can we remember?
I'm a huge believer in teams will show you,
uh,
their gumption in like the last series before the all star break.
Like if a good team that's fight,
the Braves just like,
and the Yankees,
the same boat,
um,
go down in the twins or whoever,
twins are kind of out of it already.
But you know what I'm saying?
Like fringe teams that you're like,
maybe they could turn it around.
even though we don't really believe in them.
How do they attack those last six games before the break?
Because I think bookends are important in sports and life.
You want to start strong.
You want to finish strong.
So if Yankees, Braves, these teams that are like looking dead, act dead before we even in those last series before the All-Star game, I think that's a sign of calling it quits a little bit.
I just read Yanoa, who obviously punched his way out of the last.
lineup, I mean, out of the roster, 60-day I-L.
They're talking late August for him to return it.
That's if he's a starter.
If they want to bring him back as a reliever, the time could speed up a little bit.
So maybe they do that.
Maybe they get him back early August and have him go two, three innings out the pen,
build himself up in the show because they need that.
It's one of the things they need is some pitching in the bullpen.
And obviously him in the rotation makes that a,
that a pretty damn good rotation. If they get everyone
healthy and kind of click it at the same time, and you got
Ion-Onderson,
big game Charlie Morton,
Max Fried and you know what?
I'm in.
That Jose Ramirez trade, you've been teasing all year.
That's what I'm saying, man. Jim, I talked about it
at the end of a pretty wild
Wake and Jake episode yesterday. Cole Tucker
Cameo, not a big deal. Tim LoCastro
trade broke. My
favorite story of that is the
20, formerly my Rockies,
The 2019 Rockies, who had been to the playoffs, the two years before that,
they were in the second wild card spot.
They limped into the All-Star break.
I think they lost six games heading into the All-Star break.
They had an atrocious second half and now look where the Rockies organization is.
You know, you think you have a team that is getting better and so much young talent and a young core.
And now, well, they got the All-Star game, so that's good.
Yeah, and the nationals who I did say, I think are legitimate, can be legitimate contenders.
They got a brutal stretch coming up, and this will show a lot.
A little bit. How about you want some gumption?
You want some gumption?
Go beat the Dodgers and the pot race.
Show me your gumps.
You know what I'm saying?
Yeah.
I hate websites so much sometimes.
I'm trying to just find that.
I'm sorry.
That's a complete.
West Coast. Oh, that is a brutal.
Brutal West Coast swing to end it.
They have Dodgers at home, and then they go to San Diego to San Francisco.
Buckle up.
I'm trying to find just an easy, straightforward list of the NL First Place All-Stars.
Okay.
There's a Twitter account for All-Star Game.
I found it.
I'm interested to see how many are on first-place teams, because you have two Reds.
You have Pirates.
Little breaking news.
You have the Braves.
Your mean Mercedes.
What?
Your mean Mercedes sent down.
Yeah, you got optioned.
Sent down.
Yeah.
No, I know.
I think, do you get optioned or do you get optioned?
Option sent down.
Go, Tony.
Do we have no NL All-Star on a first place team?
Posey.
Posey.
That's kind of funny, right?
Like no division leading team has a starting all-star player besides the catcher, Buster Posey.
and they're now somewhat tied.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Do you want to talk about the Padres at all?
Father of mine.
There's some talk about the Padres
and what they're going to do with Eric Hosmer.
And you guys know I love the guy.
The numbers aren't great,
especially comparatively to first baseman around the league.
that would be something
because there are talks about maybe a little gallo
going over there now Will Myers also isn't performing
Chris Rose brought this up this morning
maybe he can go take some time away from Myers
but also this Hosmer thing man
making a lot of money for a lot of years coming up
but he just hasn't it's not hasn't worked out
I don't think the way they want now maybe
how they're going to trade him
they're not going to trade him
they're saying like
you think they're going to eat that
now? Not eat it
just maybe play less
okay
he's got it he's right at
replacement level he's got a 0.0
4.0 war 91 OPS that's below
replacement below league average
91 OPS plus
excuse me 666
OPS that's daunting
it's just
you know look if you're the
Padres and you got to go up against these teams and make moves.
Like you can't afford to have your first base player not be an above average bat.
Yeah.
I'm curious to see if they address that.
I mean, they owe him.
I mean, after this season, he's got four more years under contract and over $60 million
on the books.
So like they're not going to be able to move him.
So it may be in their best interest if they're winning games and playing.
well to try and get him into being good again.
You know, maybe if it comes to September, late August, and they're in a race and he's not
performing, I don't think you can, I don't know, I don't think you can act on that now.
But maybe.
Maybe.
I hate saying that because I do love Hodg.
And I do believe he's an asset to the team.
But I think it also served them well to, like, kind of have someone that's providing more offense.
Did the White Sox replace your mean Mercedes with a guy named Jake Burger?
Come on.
That's such an insulting name.
His name is Jake Burger.
You're a cartoon character from, uh, he says.
Come on.
You know what?
That's kind of like a rocket power name, Jake Burger.
That dude beats up Shubies.
Trev's ale?
What a name, man.
Yeah, Jake Burger.
What the name?
Trev.
What happened in the American League?
We will start off with a firecracker of a series.
The twins go into Chicago and they get freaking swept.
7, 6, socks, 13, 3, 8, 5, all socks.
We all know game one was the Donaldson Gialito shouting match.
Going back and forth.
We'll probably talk about that a little bit later.
The White Sox hit the Twins didn't.
The White Sox pitched the Twins didn't.
The twin season has been dead.
We know that the White Sox are playing really good.
Yermine, as we taught, was options.
Mankata had to exit game three.
He'll be out through the weekend.
Some decent news for the twins.
Paneda makes his rehab start.
Garber's not expected to return from the aisle
until after the All-Star break,
but he is coming back.
I don't know what that means for them.
Their season had been dead.
White Sox sweep the twins.
Moving on, the Mariners,
who have beaten some really freaking good teams
lately take two out of three from the Blue Jays
in Buffalo.
9 3 Blue Jays game 1
and the Mariners won 9-7 and 7-2
Both offenses were solid
Which means the pitching wasn't great
My guy J.P. Crawford
We mentioned him
Him and Hanager had five hits a piece
Marcus Simian starting shorts
I've had seven hits with five extra base hits
Including two homers
And Bichette had six hits with a homer
More with the go-ahead three-run homer
In the 10th inning of game two for the Mariners
And you're a guy Kikuchi
Seven innings pitch
one earned run in game three. He's got a 1.01 ERA in his last four starts. Hasn't given up
multiple earn runs since June the fifth. Nice call, James. The Blue Jays did acquire Corey Dickerson
and Adam Simber. My understanding is it's more for Adam Simber than Corey Dickerson because he is
hurt. And Nate Pearson is away from the team seeking yet another opinion on his right groin. I think
that's eight opinions he's gotten on the groin. Mariners take two or three from the Blue Jays.
Moving on, this was a fun one.
I think you guys are familiar with the Angels go into the Bronx and they take two out of three.
It was a four game set.
The fourth game got postponed.
Five three Angels.
11, five Yankees and then the bad one.
11 to eight Angels.
O'Tonnie comes in that game.
It gets taken out in the first inning.
Looks great for the Yankees and then the rain comes.
And then more rain comes.
And then Jared Walsh brings even more rain with a grand slam off of Chapman to win at this.
series essentially for the Angels.
Both teams hit pretty well.
Neither team pitched really well.
Taney had three damn Jimmy Jacks, Walsh had two in a Glacius.
Seven hits and a homer.
Upton could return from the I.L.
When eligible on Saturday, I don't think it matters.
I think the Angel season is also dead.
Clint Frazier exits game three with busyness.
I can't wait to hear you guys talk about that.
And our guy Tim McChastrow is going to the Yankees.
But they lose two out of three to the Angels.
Moving on, the Tigers go into Cleveland, take two out of three.
13-5 Indians, 9-4 Tigers and 7, 7-1 Tigers in 7.
The Tigers hit, the Indians hit, the Tigers didn't pitch, the Indians didn't pitch.
Cabrera 6 hits, three extra base hits, including two homers,
Ramirez and Bradley, two homers each, and Hernandez were five hits.
Bieber still not expected to throw again for another one to two week,
but Plesack made his rehab start.
Eddie Rosario, my gosh, they have a lot of injuries.
Sent for an MRI on his for some right abdominal tightness.
And Frammel, our guy, he's expected to return Saturday.
So that's some good news for the Indians.
The Tigers take two out of three.
Moving on, the best team in baseball right now.
The Red Sox sweep the Royals in a four freaking game set.
6'5, 7, 6-2, 15 to 1.
The Red Sox hit the crap out of the ball.
Six different Red Sox hit, had five plus hits.
Renfro, my goodness.
Three homers and Martinez and Hernandez had two homers each.
Eovaldi continued.
have a great year seven shuddy in game four whit mirrofield did his thing but wasn't enough bobby dollback
exit's game two and sits three and four expected to return on sat but the red socks continue to
roll they sweep the royals in the four game set this one is insane to me the orioes go into houston
and they sweep the freaking astros nine seven thirteen three five the two they hit the crap out of the
the Astros did not. It's Houston's third time being swept this season. In Baltimore,
second time sweeping a team this season. Mollins, our guy, had eight hits in a homer. Franco and Hayes,
six hits a piece. The Astros had two extra base hits all series. That's freaking crazy.
They did draw 22 walks in the three games. And last series, Rangers go into Oakland. They take
two out of three from the A's, five, four Rangers, three one A's, eight three Rangers.
Gallo had four homers and sticks RBIs.
He's basically saying,
get me the hell out of Texas.
Please someone come scoop me up.
No A's player recorded more than three hits.
Bassett does have a great game.
Seven, Shuddy, and game two.
And Canna, probably not returning before the All-Star Break.
The Rangers take two out of three from the A's.
And that is what happens in the A.L.
Sorry, I have a rabbit right here.
It's running on my grass.
And I have rabbit and snake fencing.
I don't like that.
Wow
I need to go checks now
You guys to talk to look quick
Can I get an order of the rabbit and snake fencing
You want a snake fencing?
No you should probably get rabbit
You want a fence for all animals
Just rabbits and snakes please
No
I actually like when the groundhogs come in
I like killing them
That's kind of a bare hand kill
Jake what the hell man
The Astros lost
Orioles season, man.
You know it.
At home.
You know it.
Yeah, I mean, I'll say this.
I mean, baseball, this happens.
This is part of what makes baseball great.
And I know a Cedric Mullins show.
My God, might hear more about that in a little bit.
I'm really interested to see.
I'm going to assume the Astros bounce back.
But like I said, if you limp into the All-Star break after this first, like, after this really good first half of the season,
you can piss it all away.
So I'm expecting the Astros to bounce back.
We've kind of been an Astros pod,
which was hilarious and probably gets under some 13-year-old boy skins.
But I'm interested to see how they bounce back
because, man, the Orioles come and punch you in the mouth a little bit.
They always can hit a little bit.
I mean, Mullins, Mancini,
although I think he was slumping a little bit.
Franco, Hayes, go O's, go birds.
Did Erkiddy get hurt?
Erkidi, Erkity.
He's placed on the 10-day IL with tightness and inflammation in the right shoulder.
Okay.
I was trying to see what pitchers blew it for the Astros,
and Astros fans, obviously you know more about your team than we do.
You know what they're calling this, Trev?
They're calling this the Sig McDahl series.
You know who that is?
Mm-mm.
his executive, that was with the Astros,
like a behind the scenes guy that no one really talks about,
that they,
they give a lot of credit to developing the,
everything that the Astros did that made them successful.
They gave this guy,
Sig,
a lot of credit for all aspects of what made the Astros good.
And he went to the Orioles to help them scout and develop.
and be better.
So low revenge game for SIG.
Goes back to his old stomping grounds with his new team.
Says, look what I can do.
Everyone's calling it that.
Yeah, I've heard that all over the place, actually.
Yeah, Twitter was not stopped.
The Sigmund dolls series.
I don't even know if you pronounce the name.
It's SIG.
So I'm guessing SIG.
It's right.
Could be SIG.
A lot of results here that
that I don't know what to make up.
Obviously, the White Sox sweep the twins,
and that's kind of easy.
obviously the Red Sox sweep the royals and that's kind of easy.
The Orioles sweeping the Astros is different.
The Rangers beating the A's.
That's not what the paper would have told you was going to happen.
And there was another one.
The tigers keep winning.
Angels take two out of three from the Yankees with the rain delay.
And the Mariners beat the Blue Jays.
So a lot of that is like that middle tier of the AL.
We were kind of talking about this.
that middle tier of the AL
is kind of just a mess of like nothingness
like there's the five good teams
and then it's just like a mess.
It's just baseball like you can't
sometimes these guys are going to win
you know especially when Joey Gallo goes out
and hits freaking bomb after bomb after bomb
like you could take a series because of that
and it's kind of what happened.
The Red Sox I don't
I said this morning that they should
they should go look at Joey Gallo
and a lot of people in that chat
when I was on the IG library.
They don't need any bats.
I'm like, dude, you need all the bats you can get.
Like Chris Sale is coming back.
Your pitching staff isn't great.
Your bullpen's been great.
So Chris Sale will be a nice welcome addition.
You know, is he going to return to like Sy Young sale?
Probably not.
But I mean, fucking maybe.
The guy is a stud.
But they just hit, man.
Most.
And it was very, it was a very top heavy lineup,
but they've gotten some guys like going,
like Hunter Renfro has been going.
Verdugo's been a lot better as of late.
But I still think, man, like, if they want to really do it,
like they're going to have to be a team that, like,
has their starters go long enough to turn it to the bullpen
and then they got to score runs.
Like, I still think they need to make moves.
They're not this team, this juggernaut team,
but they could be if they made some moves.
Most wins in baseball.
51 dubs for the Red Sox.
And yeah, you expect them to beat the Royals,
but sweep four at any time.
you sweep four games. That's impressive. So the Red Sox continued to continue. And yeah, I mean,
Treve, what you're saying is, you know, always get better. There's always room on a baseball team for
whether it's reliever or upgrading a bat or upgrading something. There's always room.
26-man roster. So they're, I mean, they are going to be a team around the deadline. I have no
idea. Are they going to make like the big splash? And then it's all very real. Like do the Red Sox?
because let's be honest, we've enjoyed, you know, the Red Sox are a fun team.
Jim, you've talked about their lineup construction on how they've rolled the same dudes out there,
and a lot of those guys have been mashing.
And we've talked about some of their pitcher success.
But, man, you know, we haven't really talked about them as World Series contenders.
And I think if they do make a splashy move, I don't know who it is.
I don't know if it's a hitter.
I don't know if it's a starting pitcher.
I don't know if it's a lights out reliever.
But I think then we say, like,
the Red Sox put them in the mix with the Dodgers,
put them in the mix with whoever else you like
when the World Series, Houston.
Treve, I think you had a question.
Are you interested in two-for-ones?
I really am.
Because the Red Sox went out and got Gallo
and our freaking guy Gibby.
Don't you buy steak me.
Then we're talking.
And I think that's a combo that might be moved together.
I don't know how that works in trades.
You get more if you do them separately, possibly.
These guys are going to be worth a lot because they come with additional years of control.
This isn't a rental.
Joey's got another year of arbitration.
Gibby's got very affordable years on his contract left.
So the Padres could be there.
The Red Sox could be there.
The Yankees clearly need these two.
So this is going to be interesting.
I think whoever lands those two guys, now we're talking like,
okay, that team got exponentially better.
Yeah.
So for two seasons, I've said I have no idea how the Rangers operate and we've tried to guess like what we think they would do or should do and we never got it right.
So I'm going to try to pivot and go off what we learned last year.
And they didn't trade Lynn at the deadline, even though they were shopping him heavily and they were begging teams to meet.
Like we know they were trying to trade him at the deadline last year because they thought they could get a haul.
No one gave them close to what they wanted in season.
Maybe that was short in season.
New GM too, Jamm-O.
Yeah, I know, but there's still a lot of the same crew surrounding that GM operating and there.
And they got a deal that they liked for Lynn after the season.
So Gallo and Gibby, they're not rentals.
They have another year of control.
So they could very much go to Lance Lynn route.
But they're both so hot right now.
Like both,
you can't get hotter than they are.
So is a Liddy pitch into a two.
I know.
I love maybe,
but I don't know if he's a few guy.
That makes me think that they're going to want even more than they wanted for Linn,
which they couldn't get.
And then they're happy to settle and trade it in the off season.
Yeah, but the difference, yeah, I mean,
the difference is the extra years of control and they're cheap.
like they could they're going to get a haul for these guys like that's a huge thing for people like yeah
you want to go get a rental sometimes but you don't want to give a lot of prospect capital for that
that's probably what happened last year with lynn like they're not going to give a bunch of prospect
capital to go get a guy for three months uh or two months but you're not doing that here and these
guys are affordable like i think this is going to be a big splash somewhere yeah i'd love it
last year would you like it yankees boom that fixes a lot of problems for you guys
Yanks got a lot of problems going on.
It fixes a lot of your problems.
And Tim Lo Castro will fix them all.
Yeah, Rangers, I hope we can chalk it up to Weird Year last year,
and now they've got the new GM because you are seven-a-half games out of fourth place to the LA Angels.
16 and a half back in the division.
So, I mean, the writing's on the wall.
So we'll see what happens there.
Mariners do deserve more love, 43 and 39.
that is a better record than the Yankees.
That is a better record than the Blue Jays.
J.P. Crawford Pot.
Shout out every episode.
Washington State Cougars, college game day.
Same thing.
J.P. Crawford.
Cacucci.
But Jim, now they can't trade them.
Why not?
Because they're in it, babe.
They're not in it.
They should trade Kikuchi right now,
and they should trade everyone.
They should get as hot as fuck for the next two weeks,
and trade.
They still have so many prospects,
and they've shown the ability to the develop people.
Man,
if you can get some for Kikuchi and then he's just a free agent,
it's a rental,
do it.
You're not winning this year and year to year.
I'm not,
I'm not being like,
I'm not trying to shit talk the Mariners.
Like,
they're impressive and they're winning.
But look at the AL.
It's not a World Series season.
So if you can still help next tier's team or if they want to opt in,
that's fine, man.
But they could,
they could trade him and sign them,
you know it could be an or Aldous Chapman if he loves Seattle like he's a free agent again so who knows yeah the interesting thing with the Mariners is that this is one of those situations we're like they're playing really well right now and they just beat three took series from three really good teams it was got to look at it again I keep forgetting it was they're saying they swept the race they they beat the white socks in a series and they just beat Toronto in a series like they beat good teams but like I agree with you this like I agree with you this like I'm
I don't count the Blue Jee's there, but I count the first one.
Why not?
That's a good team.
I think they're in the middle mess with everyone.
I think they're similar to the Mariners.
What I'm saying is this is probably a year early for them.
They have a lot of young talent.
They don't even have Kyle Lewis playing right now.
Like he's one of their guys.
They don't even have him.
So I do believe there's a ton of talent and it's young on this team.
So you could go one or two ways here.
You could keep this team together and get him some experience like with a freaking
playoff run, like a stretch run.
like, hey, this is what it's going.
Hello.
Lost them.
And Jim, just covering your butt from the commenters.
You know, Kukuchi, that funky contract that we talked a lot about,
you know, the team options on it are 16 and a half mil.
And the way he's pitching right now is like a 25 mil per year pitcher.
So they could want him to opt in for the next.
They could have them for four years if they want.
Let me.
I mean, he's not going to get 25 mil off.
A season.
Can I finish my point?
Sorry.
Yeah.
You can go one or two ways.
You can say this is what it's going to take.
Go through the stretch run.
See if you can sneak in a wild car game or at least play very meaningful games in September.
Or you go and say, let's freaking build it up even more because the next year and the year after that and the year after that, that's our window.
I'm interested to see what they do there because that's both would be good for their teams.
If you continue to play like meaningful fucking games,
Like you have to learn how to do that.
And this will be a time where they can.
So I'm, I don't know what they're going to do.
Oh, dude, Kukuchi's next start with a chance to get his ERA in the twos.
Yanks.
Yanks.
Against the Yankees.
Bring a new.
10.10 p.m.
Make me smart.
Last thing before we move on, let's talk about the Indians a little bit.
What do they do?
What do they do?
You get Fran Mill back.
You're excited for that.
I mean, they probably do some tighten around the edges,
maybe add one or two vets to try to make the city believe.
But, you know, they're not going to invest money into anything.
So I don't know, man.
I kind of feel bad for them.
They're the only team that's really in kind of American League purgatory.
Like 42 and 36, like the Blue Jays, Yankees, they're both closer to 500.
they're kind of with the Mariners right now
So in the NL, it's the race to get over 500
Because so many teams are hovering there
And it's just messy
In the AO these final 10 days
Who can have a good 10 game stretch
To enter, to be in the wildcard conversation
Because 500 right now doesn't in the American League
Where it does in the NL
Well, kind of the NL West
Do you know what they could get for J-RAM right now?
Oh, my crap.
I didn't know this.
I mean, I knew he had one option.
He has two options, two team-freaking options at 11 and 13.
That's so cheap for a guy of his caliber.
You could immediately make your team, you know, jump up a full notch.
And there's a lot of teams that need that.
A lot of teams, including my Braves.
Notch me.
Wow, that's a huge decision for them.
Because, like, you could keep him for two more years,
and it's a perfect, like, that's a great content.
for the Indians or whoever freaking gets them crazy to me I don't know what they're going to do it
Indians fans if you're in the chat what are they doing with J-ram trade them actually we're not
about it's the Cleveland Ball Club the spiders probably Cleveland spiders
the Cleveland spiders the Cleveland spiders do we want to hit the the IL is there anything else
we got to cover um I mean we we didn't really and Trev you're the guest of honor on this one
Donaldson versus Gialito.
Gialito's your boy.
Donaldson's your hitting coach.
Obviously that got hot.
So if you want to give your going away statement on it.
You know, it's just, I said this already.
I think it's just the right take,
and at least what I really feel.
It's just like a byproduct of all this stuff that's coming out.
I mean, Major League Baseball didn't handle this the right way,
and now it's coming up during the season.
pitchers have to take accountability for the things they were doing.
These guys aren't teammates.
In fact, they're rivals.
So this is bad blood's okay.
It's okay.
I think both guys,
the way they handled it was just fine.
Like Donaldson's talking crap because that's what he does.
Like he,
how many clips do we have of Donaldson talking crap to the other team?
It's a zillion, dude.
Like,
I have had to get in his face before.
You know, like.
Yeah, what was that about?
What was that?
Was that a fun memory?
it was a hilarious memory
it was uh i think i've told the story on this before maybe not uh glen perkins
uh gave up a huge homer foul and donaldson kind of like pimped it a little bit this is before
you were able to do that uh then he struck him out like the next pitch and then and then perkins
like yelled something at him and then donaldson was like what did you say and i started walking
towards perkins perkins has kept on going to the dugout but then i you know i had to come in
step in get in front of josh but i said this is
actually it's funny.
I said,
I said,
what are you doing?
What are you yelling at him for?
He goes,
he was yelling at me.
And I go,
he was.
Okay.
Like,
you guys were yelling at each other.
So what?
Like,
I guess,
whatever.
Like,
it's part of the game.
It's basically what I'm trying to say with this whole situation.
It's part of the game.
It got blown up because it's a big story right now,
but it's two competitors,
man.
I love that.
I didn't see that much backlash.
I'm sure from what White Sox fans and twins fans.
are being like obnoxiously on one side and that's also part of it so I don't like mind that at all
but man jadie's funny and gilito saying he's a fucking pest it's just like the most honest thing
and i think jd says like i think jd would be like yeah i am a pest and like what some data okay
see it and i here's some data i i think i don't mind i like both sides i like how this happened
I like that it became a story.
I like that it's fun.
So I'm like fine with it.
Like hitting a home run and then clapping and saying no more sticky stuff.
Yeah.
Fucking pest.
I don't think it's that classless when you compare that these guys are pissed.
That pictures were using this much shit.
So often.
Like this is fine.
So but I like that Gio Lito kind of said like he's a fucking pest.
Enjoy last place.
I got the W next to my name.
Great line by Gio.
So.
And he said,
and you're soaking it up.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Jeremy L in the chat says no offense, but he would have rocked Trev.
I don't know if you know back in the day I was a thick boy.
Thick Trev.
Like he wasn't rocking me.
Like there.
No one's rocking you, Trev.
You got you got too much nice juice.
Yeah.
Like you got like a great defense that people are like, I don't want to hit Plufe.
We were friends too.
Like he was, Josh has always been nice to me.
So no, I wasn't going in there trying to fight the guy.
I was just saying, what's going on here?
And he told me.
I was like, okay, whatever.
And that's what are my.
My brain jumped where I was eyes emoji on this.
They have a series coming up.
Gioito not starting that next series.
But man, there's two guys.
Like, Treve, you said it before.
Like, Gialito's an alpha.
Like, you know.
Well, that's a big boy.
And he's, he's huge.
I think it came up on Chris Rose rotation.
Like, you know, a lot of guys in sports are huge.
But like, Freed Flaherty Gialito, that crew,
they're all like, Gialito, he's big.
and Donaldson's nuts.
And very strong as well.
If these guys do line up again and there's one up and in,
if there's two guys that would make something happen,
I think it's these two dudes.
That's the thing, though.
It's never going to come to blows.
And I don't ever want to see it come to blows
because we want both these guys on the field.
The trash talk is great.
Let the trash talk continue.
Josh is freaking great at it, too.
Hot.
It's funny.
when you find someone that's just a natural
born shit talker.
It's, uh, that's, that's Josh.
You know, yeah, there's some
people that are just so good at it.
My hitting. Like Johnny Knoxville.
John Knoxville, some of those jackass scenes
when he's just improving.
Just, just like that natural
born shit talk. And then for Josh to come up and hit
a homer the first at bat when they said they were going to
lean him. Slider,
slider, slider, heater,
see ya.
What's that line that
Knoxville said?
and the one
when he's the dirty grand
the old grandpa
and the guy's trying to fight him
because he's making out
with his daughter
it's so quick
that long hair can't cover
that red neck boy
it's like
quick with it
it's good shit talk
all right
let's hit the IL
not the injured
not the injured list
about this
yeah
the series
you've all been waiting for
it's like a grocery
here. We save the bread and milk for the end so you get everything else along the way.
The Washington Nationals. My Nats hosted BBD's Rays in the nation's capital two gamer and get the
broomsticks out, babe. Ross versus old man Rich Hill in the first game. Rich Hill showing some
emotion, 41 with passion. Just hit my knuckle on the table harder than I wanted to. Nats
take the first game, four to tree. Jim likes when I say tree instead of three, and then they
blow them out in the next one. Lester versus Rasmussen, how about it? It's good weightlifting name.
Miss those old ESPN two days. 15 to six nationals. Turner goes off. Soto, God, I love him.
Turner, you might hear a little bit more about him later, Mr. Cycle. Zanino, two homers,
all John Boy Media team, and that's obvious.
Good for the Nats.
They keep their energy going.
Rays, it's a two-game interleague series,
so they don't care.
And that's what's happened in the aisle.
Well, I mean, great job, Jake.
That was.
Hey, two teams who are slip-slide in different directions, huh?
Just slip and sliding.
I mean, I think the,
I think the raise are close to being 500 in their last 30 games now,
which, you know, the raise are still a good team.
and I know I'm not losing faith at all, but that's a decent
mid-season slide.
They'd be a team that I'd put on the gumption watch of like,
if they, if they, if they sweep the last two or they like, you know,
go nine and one or eight and two in their last 10 right before the All-Star break,
I'd be like, yeah, okay, the rays are going to come out like firing
second half of the season.
I don't know what to make of them.
And then the Nats, complete opposite.
And this race kid tied into Glass Now, bone stimulator, when he went down a little bit,
and a little before that too.
A little bit of Willie Adomis trade.
Bone stimulator.
Yeah, I mean, and Trev, I've got a baseball question, if you don't mind me asking.
I've got a baseball question.
And I don't know if you had anything like this happened, but the race traded away Willie Adamas,
who we talked to.
He was on Rose.
You hear him talk for five.
minutes and you realize he's just an electric awesome personality a guy you would want in any clubhouse
if you're the race like you know they still keep tabs on him and you see him raking in milwaukee
and they're having a blast over there is there a little like is there willie adomas fomo in the
ray's clubhouse within the guy is 100 percent i mean he was an excellent shortstop he didn't hit
there so like they they're looking at it in milwaukee being like wow i wish he would have done that
here and like we've we've talked about he just said he couldn't see the freaking ball in
Tampa so you know maybe it was one of those things it was good for both parties but they're
definitely missing Willie he's a he's a great presence in the clubhouse and did you need a you need
a shortstop that can just go out there and be the guy what's wander been doing we haven't talked
about one I know it hasn't been good it's like the sport is tough you know I don't know what
194, 628 OPS.
Not you got a farm to fame.
It's funny you mention that, Jimmy.
Let's see.
Wander is hitting 194, 306 on base, 628 OPS.
Hasn't played in a couple days.
And yeah, man, I mean, it's just, it's so funny.
You heard everyone, you know, the race shortstop depth in the minor leagues is nuts,
Franco, walls, all these guys.
And it's like, well, let's see it in the bigs,
and I'm sure they're probably all going to be good,
but it takes time, man.
Sixth sport.
Hey.
I like talking baseball with you guys.
Thanks.
James.
Jim, it's funny you mentioned farm to fame
because did you know that's a show on the John Boy Media Network?
I love that show.
I listen to it.
I listen to it.
Former Big League pitcher, Petra Moiling,
and sports journalist Kelsey Wing it,
Bringing you all the updates you need to know about the kids making their way to the show.
If you're looking to learn more about your team's prospects,
up and comers and rising stars across MLB, you need to tune in a farm to fame.
They're the best.
We're such big Peter and Kelsey fans.
I know that College World Series was just there.
They were talking about NC State and all that.
I'm sure they're going to have a ton of draft stuff coming up.
Excited to see them in Denver.
And they're just like two awesome people.
like the Willie Adomis effect I talk about, both of them.
Well, mostly Kelsey, but.
Yeah.
Maddie Masse on the ones and twos.
I'm going to say, didn't like Peter initially.
He's a pitcher.
He's a pitcher.
Now, now, like, I kind of like Peter.
I'm shocked.
I, for one, I'm shocked.
You didn't like someone initially.
Should I hide?
Someone said, I'd like the lays bad.
I refreshed right there.
He looked great.
I think you've been good.
got you back.
Nice.
Thanks,
Indino.
What up?
Can I tell you something since June 1st?
Yeah.
How many pitchers on the raised
that have pitched 10 or more innings?
So in the month of June,
pitched 10 or more innings had an ERA that you would say is good.
What's good?
Under 4?
Yeah, I'm going to say, I was going to say under 3.5,
but under 4 is good.
We can do the same thing.
How many raise pitch?
Or three.
One, two, four.
Well, actually, five.
Maybe I should have done differently.
Okay.
Although all the mainstays have been bad.
Like Yarby Hill, McClanahan, Fleming, Waka have been there most innings in June, besides Glassnau who got hurt.
And they all are, did not go well.
You know who had a really good month of June, Colin McHugh.
Oh.
Zero ERA for McHugh, so good job by him.
Huge.
He's cool.
He's sick.
Yeah.
Oh, he's a super cool dude.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Me.
Hey, let me tell you something.
Hold on.
Great follow.
Great follow.
I didn't stop.
I want to talk about Peter Moreland more.
Okay.
Oh, okay.
Huge.
Great show teeth.
Yeah.
All fake.
Kind of got me back into them.
It doesn't matter.
Show, that's show.
You just buy new teeth?
I'm on the path towards that.
Anyways.
I'm sure Peter and I are going to get along just swimmingly in Colorado.
But I gotta be, it's an honest pod.
I can't lie on this pod.
Jake, you want me to edit some pictures up of you
with multiple different versions of teeth?
Oh, Jim, I've seen your teeth work before.
Yeah, I mean, I've seen it.
Your famous Christmas photo.
That's all time.
Oh, no, no, I was just going to give you, like, different teeth.
You can do whatever you want.
Jim, this is going to kind of blow your mind.
So I actually looked into some fake teeth stuff.
Just, I don't know, interested.
And we have a buddy Rob who's got some big, he got him like as big and as white as you can get them.
And so, Jim, I asked Rob.
I was like, how many fake teeth did you get?
He's like, do you want to guess?
All of them.
You don't get them all?
He got, right?
Bob Urban, there's his full name, got his eight teeth done.
He got eight teeth done, but it looks like his whole mouth.
Moilin.
So did he not get his Mowlands?
No.
It's only the eight, like, top ones, but it shows his whole mouth.
Moylands, a big number.
He did the whole thing.
It is very show, Trep.
Show, so show.
He's got the big teeth and the big eyes.
He, like, stares into your soul.
It's wild.
Dude, I got a fake, I got one fake tooth.
I got some fake teeth.
Let's get sponsored by a tooth company.
I need a, can someone, yeah, can a teeth whitening company sponsor us?
I need that.
Too much coffee for this guy right now.
And speaking of, that farm to fame ad, I think that brings us to standouts, Jim?
Standout performance.
Standout performance.
That was so much cooler.
Did you get real close to your mic?
for that. I was pretty close. I'm a, you know me. Stand out performance. Yeah, you guys.
Yeah. Sometimes I try to get the whole mic in my mouth. Interesting. I get to go.
I get to go first, guys. And succeed. You got it, Jim. Lead off. My standout performer of the week
is Hermann Marquez of Jake's X, Rocks.
Nine innings pitched, zero earned runs, only gave up one hit.
He took a no hitter into the ninth inning.
He also hit two doubles with an RBI.
Now, I'm at the point where it's not just a single game because usually this was against a low team, not a great team.
So sometimes I'd let that slide and look for a pitcher who dominated a good team like my dude Kukuchi.
but I think the conversation about Marquez is cool.
He changed his most secondary pitch and it's this slider.
And if you watch the slider, it does not look great.
It's not a wipeout slider.
He actually uses it almost as a changeup.
It's so tight and sometimes it doesn't even really move that much.
And he uses it as a get me over strike.
Like he had
He had 41% called strike plus whiff on his 27 sliders.
So he was using it to get called strikes,
but also using it for whiffs,
which is cool.
He can't kind of manipulate it.
It didn't have it last year.
The curveball and the slider both have a 42% width rate for Herman Marquez.
He's got two more years left on his contract,
but they're pretty cost friendly.
So I think if the Rockies aren't interested in
competing in the next two years and they think they're a little bit ways out,
they may be able to get a haul.
Maybe it doesn't happen in season,
but right now you could get,
they could really get a lot because someone would have Herman Marquez for pretty
cheap for the rest of this season,
for really cheap the rest of this season.
And then you get him for two more years.
And he's putting together some big numbers.
So great game by him,
did it with the bat,
did it on the bump and a good season now.
His pitching, his ERA sucks and the reason why ERA sucks,
because he has two games this season where he gave up eight earned runs,
like absolute ERA ruiners.
So he's got a three six.
But, you know, that's not his average start.
He's got his average start is probably like six innings pitch, two earned runs.
There's a, you know, I love my rocks, obviously, previously my rocks.
when Trev starts talking about Gibby, who we love.
And I think you get Gibby on a playoff team,
and you know what you're going to get.
Like, Gibby's going to take the mound.
He's going to fight, battle, you know.
He's going to give you everything.
Hermann Marquez is a guy that can change your outlook in a big way.
Like, that's a guy that can go toe to toe with pretty much anyone in baseball.
If he's right, if they move him to a team, look out.
I think he's going to be a name that's known a lot more around baseball.
Because this guy's gross.
I mean, Jim, you're so right with the ERA.
I would love for the nerds to give me some fake information I can believe in.
Like if he pitched his career in Oakland, what his ERA would be.
Because I bet it would be like a 315 instead of a 416.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And those two eight inning outings are bad.
and I you know I'm not like anti-ERA like because the best pitchers don't have those
Albatross outings but you shouldn't just it shouldn't be the end all be all you should have to
look a little deeper and be like wait hold up this guy's got two horrible horrible starts
he's got 10 stud starts or something like that you know I don't know but um Marquez
dude we did not talk about I hope you one of you guys have I guess I can check I feel bad
we skipped like angels
Yankees talk
Jake and I do it on talking
yanks
but Angels fans
that listen to this
are probably
like I
it wasn't like a salty
decision to not
the angels should get talked about
I don't know if we
have awards or anything
coming up but
well Jim
my standout performance
is an angel
night
and I got questions
for the Angels fans
Nate I know you're in the chat
I saw you there
I got to ask you
I'm giving my standout performance
to our
guy Jared Walsh
goes two for five with the
two homers five RBIs
obviously the game
tire was it tied the game
up the Grand Slam against Chapman
that's a hell of an
bet lefty lefty
Chapman's platoon splits against
left-handed batters a
133 batting average
184 slug
for a 431 OPS
obviously dominates left-handed hitters
Walsh gets the hang and slug
and slide ball.
That slide ball didn't slide too much.
And Walsh deposited it into the bullpen
for the Grand Slam.
Awesome freaking at bat.
So it got me looking into his stuff.
What happened with Walsh,
Angels fans?
He wasn't very good in college.
I think he was a fourth year draft pick.
His career in college,
he had a 724 OPS.
then he comes to pro ball and absolutely rakes was there an adjustment made i just i need to know
what happened did he like put on a bunch of weight did he get stronger because he came in in the
minors five seasons in the minors after hitting to a seven 24 ops in college in the minors in five seasons
a nine-thirteen ops now he's in the major leagues with a career eight seventy three so clearly
he made some sort of adjustment foolish baseball did call it before the season he said a lot of the
Angel's success will rely on how much they're going to play Walsh. Well, they got rid of Pooholz.
They're playing Walsh. He's become a guy. But I need to know what happened. Like, I'm clapping
for the guy because he's been an awesome story this year, but I need to know what happened at Georgia.
So congratulations on your homer against Chapman. That was very impressive. And I love it because
we got some awesome footage of Jimmy and Jake at Yankee Stadium until like one in the morning.
Late night.
We had a cave.
Yeah.
All right.
So they just placed Trevor Bauer on seven-day administration leave.
M-O-B just placed them on there in wake of the allegations.
So that's the right move.
And let's sort this out.
Yeah.
We were in the building, like Trev mentioned, for the Otani game.
And I can't believe what it turned into.
Double rain delay.
Chapman gets blown up at the end.
Jared Walsh, yeah, what a week for me and Jared Walsh, huh?
I hype him up really good, only to find him on Slump Watch later last episode.
And then later this week, he hits the bomb off Chabbing.
Good for him.
He's like a stud.
And, yeah, we, Angels Yankees, Jim.
Yankees still are eating bugs.
They're digging into all of the classic tricks.
We had the GM talk.
We had the owner, Hal, talk.
We had a team only meeting this week.
We are digging out all the stops, baby.
Oh, a team only meeting.
I didn't hear that.
Yes, sir.
Who leads that in that clubhouse?
Gardy?
That's the problem.
They closed the door for five minutes and just kind of shrugged,
and then they opened it back up.
This will make people happy.
You guys know.
I'd say that the angels.
I got in trouble.
Yeah, you did tell us.
The angels came back from the rain delay.
And they had played four and a half innings and the Yankees were up.
So if they wanted to just call it, because it could have been an official game if they just called it.
And I think the Yankees were sitting in the clubhouse saying, we got this win.
They're probably just going to call it.
We got it.
And the angels were saying, don't fucking call this.
We're coming back.
Don't fucking call this.
Because when they switched after the rain delay, the Yankees energy, we were right by first base.
Like they were, it was so bad.
And the angels, like credit to the angels came out and they were like, hey, we just got a second life here.
Let's do it.
And then Chapman's been really bad.
And they just let him die out there.
So he couldn't throw fastball first strike.
Walsh picks up on that.
Hammers the slider.
Hammered the slider.
I don't think people understand how difficult that is.
Right.
Do you see right-handed sliders all the time?
Lefty.
He doesn't see a lot of leavens.
Only grand slam off for all this Chapman ever.
Seems like a lot of slide balls be getting hit off chatting.
Maybe he needs to work on that a little bit.
Well, he has the third pitch, but he doesn't throw it with runners on base,
which is something I pointed out really early in the season.
Is that a split?
The first time split, but he doesn't throw it with runners on base.
He's not comfortable enough there, but he throws,
he's comfortable enough to use it as a third pitch with a clean, clean base paths.
Interesting.
Yeah.
All right.
You need
You ready?
Well, no, Jake has one more.
Oh.
Oh, you haven't gone yet?
Oh, hold.
I'm just, that's fine.
I was glad the Yankees had the team meeting several days ago.
It sounds like before the bad loss.
So that's the sign of an effective team meeting.
I might hold a team meeting after this for Trev trying to leave before my standout performance.
Trev, I'm giving it to your guy.
You always, you love this guy.
It's time to make it regulate.
Nate Dogg Evaldi drops another one.
My goodness.
It's against the Royals.
Sure, I don't care.
Sox blew him out.
I don't care.
Nate Dogg is doing it.
Another seven shuddy from him.
No walks.
Five hits.
Six punches.
He is in a little four-game streak right now, by the way.
25.1 innings pitch, a 142 ERA.
depending where you go for your war.
Some places have them as a top three pitcher in the AL this year.
And we talk about the Red Sog.
That lineup's good.
That bullpen's good, man.
They're doing it.
Will it hold?
Avaldi has kind of been the rock for them in the rotation.
Erod hasn't had it figured out this year.
If I told you E.Rod didn't have it figured out for the Sox rotation this year,
and we were talking some, we were talking Kukuchi's contract before.
Avaldi's contract was supposed to be, uh, thanks for getting us the World Series, buddy.
Here you go, we owe you one.
We burnt you out in that one game.
He's there one right now.
He's dropping it all over the field.
Good for Big Nate Avaldi.
You take him out of the Red Sox starters right now.
No one else has an ERA in the threes.
So good for Big Nate, man.
I mean, this is a guy with so much arm talent.
You heard pitching everywhere he was.
went, the pitching coach starts drooling because he could pump it in there. Before everyone could
punch a hunch, Nate Dog could get up there. He's having a great year for the socks. And,
man, sometimes it takes a little longer for some pitchers to have it fully click. And maybe it is
right now. So good for Big Nate. Hey, you said he was dropping it on the field? What was he dropping?
Well, he's got a nice little pitch mix. So, you know, sometimes he'll he'll pull out
the brakes on the hitters and really drop it in there.
Great.
That's a great sound performance.
Do you know, Evaldi?
I love Nathan.
Okay.
We were teammates back in Tampa on our glorious run in 2007.
Wow.
Yeah.
People forget I used to play baseball.
You and Nate on Tampa.
Okay.
Mm.
Mm.
Best conversation you guys ever had?
Man, I had a lot that year.
I would sit with him and Odirezi quite a bit and talk.
He's a little more quiet.
Okay.
Maybe he didn't like me.
There's a strong possibility that he did not like me.
Come on.
No, it's not that.
Avaldi high school, same high school as Nolan Ryan.
Wow.
He's in all of our books.
Yes.
Yeah.
Yes.
Nolan Ryan's only in mine, though.
Yeah, Nolan Ryan, not in your book, Treve, actually.
Yeah.
actually.
And I don't have a book.
I got two guys.
I got two kids running up the hot pavement barefoot shirtless,
each carrying a pizza box.
I think Trev was about to say he would take Nolan Ryan up top.
So I just want that on tape.
That would be great.
Whatever.
Yeah.
I mean, I probably would have.
Okay.
Giving enough chances.
You're a pro.
He's a pro.
He giving up true or false.
Nolan Ryan gave up home runs to lesser players than Trevor.
Oh, yeah.
100% true
How hard was he throwing?
Now we're talking
That's what I want to know
That's an offseason episode
Just kidding, Noel and I really like you
I got to meet him one time in Texas
Very nice guy
Cool
He fixed Randy Johnson
That's a really cool story
Let's move on to the next thing
See you later Trev
See ya
Hey
Hey
Hey
Do you have the sound bite
Puntop
Trompw
Tromp Watch.
Slump watch.
All right.
We have five guys from last week.
Hopefully some of them earned their way off with the little bump from us.
And we got five guys that we need or may be adding to Slump Watch.
BBD, who are the five guys that we may be adding?
Well, the first two nominations are a couple Dodgers, Cody Bellinger and Justin Turner both go 0 for six with a walk.
Turner was hit by a pitch and struck out once.
Bellinger struck out four times.
Matt Olson goes 0 for 9.
A walk hit by pitch in two kicks.
Kibrian Hayes.
O for 9, an RBI,
walk in 3Ks, and Adelice Garcia,
one for 13.
The one was a double, 5Ks.
Wow, okay.
Jake, who interests you here?
Okay, let me see this.
Let me see this.
Man, I mean, you know I love Matt Olson,
and I'll always believe in him,
so I'd like to think he'll be jumping on the ship.
Keep Ryan, Trev's note is noted.
You know, his glove is awesome,
but he's also hit at a crazy rate.
And at a lease, I mean, the 0 for sixes are always tough.
So let's see who's gone.
I'd say we run through the return.
I'd see how many slots we got to fill.
Jose Ramirez, Treves, Jose Ramirez.
Four for eight, two homers.
Jim, is that good?
I think that's a clappy jobby.
Jose Ramirez off.
Yeah, he's gone.
Congrats.
Jared Walsh.
I'd say he's off too, man.
He went four for 13 with two homers, a double, the big, uh, the big home run.
Oh, Lee.
He just is a standout performer.
Great job by us having him on there so he can get off.
And this is a big one, dude.
Darling Marte, he was on slump watch.
He was four for 10 with two homers.
Uh, he's also on trade watch.
So that's, that's huge for him to get off.
Good job by him.
I said two homers, but I meant two strikeouts.
Okay.
Four for 10 nonetheless.
Our dude, Reese had another bad.
bad one. He goes one for 11. The one was a home run. Looks like no walks and six strikeouts.
So that's, that's, he's staying. Yeah, I think Greece. I think Grieser stays. He'll get high.
He gets hot in a hurry, I believe. This one's, I, what do you think about Crohn's zone, Jim?
I mean, CJ with with the rocks, one for seven, the one is a homer. He was 0 for 11 last series.
Lefty Masher. Do we care? Do we put it on pause?
I'll leave it to you
I didn't care last week
and you wanted him on there so
I mean I do like that he hit a homer
no we'll debate
one of the Dodger guys to add
Reese stays
and then so we're adding
Olson we're adding Cabrion
we're adding Adolice
Garcia and his one for 13
with his crazy season
we got to believe so
JT or Belly where you at man
I mean
JT
isn't worthwhile.
In his last 11 games, he has a 375 batting average in a 470, 457 OBP.
If we were to put him on here because of these two games,
I think Dodgers fans would be like,
what the fuck are you talking about?
He's on a heater right now.
He's not on a downstretch, so J.T. can't be on there.
Playing the other side.
I mean, Ballinger's just kind of been hurt all year.
Right.
He's still coming back.
It feels so rude.
He had a big homer at the beginning of the week.
Yeah, dude, but, but Belly got a full month of June in, and he hit 114 with a 445 OPS.
So we can watch him because that's not Bellinger.
Like that's, yeah, that's coming back.
Down to watch.
It's not really, I don't know if slumps the term I'd use.
It's more like, you know, getting back into the swing of things is taking longer.
Get your rhythm going.
Like, yeah.
Belly's on.
Let's watch him.
Yeah, let's watch Bell.
He's about to have his, his next play.
appearance will be his 100th of the season.
Okay. We're in it now.
Now.
Getting the rhythm.
Okay. Nice.
All right.
Trev, when Trev does this,
because I want to do it to prevent it.
I'm not Robody, though.
I don't think so, but... Not as a now.
Should I just keep going? Maybe I'll never be Robody.
Maybe you'll never robot. Maybe.
Rub that in Trev's face.
I'll find out. Once, Jim.
Well, I did that on purpose.
I know. So you didn't...
So that happened.
Is that all you do is you just refresh the browser?
Yeah.
I mean, I click out a bit, but...
Okay.
Interesting thing.
Probably got it then.
Cool.
Slump watch.
We did it, Trev.
Your boy, Reese is still on there.
Matt Olsen's on there.
Brian Hayes is on there.
Adelis Garcia and Cody Bellinger.
Gee, there's some names on that.
They're all coming off.
I feel it.
They're all coming off, man.
I feel it.
They're all coming off.
Yeah.
Hit him be.
Deep.
Dirt nasty's on Fuego.
That means I'm on fire, baby.
Like Waco.
On fire.
We already talked about this dude, Joey Gallo, or did we not?
Six for 10 with four home runs, six RBIs.
His numbers, since the sticky stuff decline, are crazy.
Like since June 2nd or June 20th, whatever one it is, I saw it out there.
His numbers are insane.
I hope there's correlation.
I don't know if there is,
but it's really fun storyline if Joey Gall was like,
hey,
wow,
those high fastballs I get hit.
Like,
is Chris Davis getting reps for the Orioles?
Is it time to swing him back in there?
Is he hurt right now?
Like,
he was a high fastball killer?
Was he a product of sticky stuff?
They're kind of similar when they're in their prime.
Well,
big Texas masters.
I think Chris Davis is out for the year.
I'll double check that.
I thought so as well.
Chris,
Trey Turner, seven for 11 with two homers.
How about that?
Ozzie Albee is making his playoff push to end June.
Seven for 14 with three home runs,
11 RBIs and two stolen bases.
Turner also grabbed two bags.
Cedric Mullins, my God.
Eight for 14 with a homer, a double,
two RBIs, two walks,
and three stolen bases,
trying to let people know who he is
because people are refusing to open their eyes
to the Cedric Mullins light.
Marcus Simeon was,
the only guy to clip Cacucci in his great game. He got two hits off of him. He got seven hits on
the week with two homers, three doubles, seven RBIs. Hunter Renfro. He's the real deal over in
Boston. Speaking of, Schwabo continues. He had three homers this week. He went five for 15. He's
just continuing to be absolutely insane. He went four for 13 with three homers. My bad. Castiano's,
All-Star, two homers.
Whitmerfield, two homers.
Jace Peterson.
Wow.
That's cool to see him on here.
Six for 10 with two doubles,
five RBIs and three walks.
That's your employee go.
Go get it, Chase.
A lot of guys.
Hot.
Hot.
I have a confession to make.
Here we go.
Confess it.
I thought you were giving out your award there.
And I was like,
What is you talking about?
I miss the connection.
I miss the connection.
I miss the connect the dot.
I was like,
how are you talking about so many people?
What a segue to awards,
though?
Awards.
Awards.
Uh,
my award,
guys,
is the Albert Blythe Award.
Yes.
Of course.
Of course.
Steege.
Albert Blythe was a military
hero of World War II and the Korean War.
He is depicted in the show Band of Brothers in the episode called Cross
for what episode, Karen Tan or Crossroads,
forget.
And the book written by Stephen Ambrose and then the movie,
they say Albert Breith was,
they kind of say he wasn't like he was scared of war.
They used him as the character to say,
you know,
some people feared it.
and he had temporary blindness, and they say he died.
He gets shot in the neck and in the book and the movie say he died.
Like the end of this episode in Band of Brothers, it says Albert Blythe died in 1944, whatever it is.
And it's just simply not true.
It was a mistake.
Albert Blythe got a purple heart.
He got shot in the shoulder, not the neck.
He didn't die.
He went and was an airborne trooper in the Korean War and continued his military career.
He was full of gumption and bravery.
and they just got the history wrong.
And a lot of people think of him as a scaredy cat that died in war and not a hero who took a bullet and kept fighting for his country.
And this award goes to Cedric Mullins.
Because this is exactly why I made the month by month John Boy Media all league team.
Because the All Star game is a bunch of hogwash.
And the fact it gets put on the awards on baseball reference for players pisses me straight.
straight off. The AL outfielders are Buxton, Trout, and Judge. And that's great names to promote the sport.
That's what the All-Star game is. So I'm not really fighting that. But there's still people who use it as history of who had a good season, who didn't. And it's just wrong, man.
Cedric Mullins is one of the three best outfielders in the American League right now. He has a 322 batting average. He has a 391 on base percentage. She's got a 942 over.
OPS. He's got 22 doubles and 14 home runs and 15 stolen bases. He's played 80 games.
Mike Trout has played 36. Byron Buxton has played 27. Sedgwick Mullins has played 80 games. He's got a 156 OPS plus.
day and day out, he's the best out, one of the best outfielders in the American League,
and he's not a first round all-star pick because it's not about who's having a good season.
It's about who will draw a crowd.
And I'm fine with that.
But I think it needs to be more known to the public that, like, this is not an assessment of skill.
Because if it was an assessment of skill for the season, Sedgick Mullen should be the one or two pick for the American League, all-star team.
And it pisses me off.
And, you know, there's a game people in five years that go, look, who were the all-stars for the American League?
Oh, they must have been having good years.
Like, no, they were hurt.
They didn't even play.
A bunch of hogwash.
So much like Albert Blythe, Cedric Mullen's history is being written incorrectly.
He'll be an all-star, but he deserves to be starting the all-star game.
He deserves to be getting way more fanfare than he is.
He should be getting hype right now.
Yeah, 100%.
It should be the Cedric Mullen's hype train.
part of that is the Orioles being inept and being a bad baseball team.
If he, you know, if this was Orioles teams in past, like the Orioles not too long ago,
we're a, at least, you know, juggernaut.
I think we'd be seeing a lot more of Sederate Mullen.
So I think that has something to do with it, but I agree with you, Jim.
I think that the naming the All-Star team in the middle of the year is dumb.
It should be named at the end of the year.
That's the one that should count.
I know we have like an all-MLB team at the end of the year.
Like the All-Star, that's the one that should count.
Yeah.
Yeah, the All-Star game in the middle of season.
There are guys that every year that don't necessarily deserve to be there.
And I'm happy for them to get the nod and whatever.
It's good for you.
But, you know, it should be a full season.
And fellas, you know, you guys normally think I'm joking.
I don't know where you get that impression from.
But, you know, the Jam baseball team, like, guys, look around.
When awards are given out, they're given by, like, the Associated Press and shit like that.
Jim, we're media company, babe.
We're going in baseball reference.
We're going to write the ship.
We're going to make history known the right way.
So when this goes down, you laugh, bro.
It's real.
This is fan voting, though.
I don't believe in fan voting for the Allster.
That's why the JN team is real.
If they said I had a real vote, I'd say, don't, I don't want a real vote.
I don't want my opinion being on baseball reference.
Sorry about it, bro.
I do.
I mean, I don't start my own all-stroke.
It's already in the works, babe.
It should be numbers should add players.
I'm a long time.
I was going to make a joke in a very serious voice, but I can't do that anymore.
Fucking people on Twitter don't get jokes or levity.
And I am giving out the...
Good award, James.
Good award.
Thank you.
Well, my peoples, I will not be doing a Tolkien Baseball Award today.
Instead, I will be doing my other favorite thing.
Talking about extreme sports, I'm giving out the Tony Hawk Award.
And this award is going to go to someone who made a play that was very technically difficult.
And I always found it interesting when I would watch the X games.
You'd watch these certain extreme sports, whether it be skateboarding, whether it be
BMX, there's always tricks that the announcers who are versed in these sports went crazy about.
And you'd look at them and you'd be like, that didn't look that crazy.
And all they would say is, that is technically so difficult to do.
You got to do this and that.
And you're looking at like, well, the cool spinning 900 looks cooler than like the technical
back foot or switch foot kick flip, whatever it is.
I'm sorry, I don't know the terms.
You know what I'm saying.
If you've ever watched the X games, you know that there are just some things that are a lot harder that don't look that hard.
Or these guys make it look very easy.
That happened in the game yesterday with my boy Maddie Chapman of the A's playing in Oakland.
All that foul ground territory pop up from a lefty going over towards the bullpen.
The mound in play, obviously.
He goes there, tracks it down.
The ball's coming back.
So he actually went over his glove hand shoulder here with the glove like this
while going over the fucking mound and made the catch.
And you watch it and you're like, oh, the third baseman caught the foul ball.
Great.
But that is the way he had to go over to get the ball with the high sun because it was a day game
and then have to navigate a freaking mound.
He went 70, 80 feet all the way to get there, maybe even more than that.
he's like 100 feet.
It was so technically advanced that like I just want people to go back and watch the highlight
and just give it some admiration and respect because it was an incredible play that to someone
who maybe doesn't know a ton about the game would just be like oh yeah he caught the flyball.
But my gosh, like that guy has obviously one of the better defensive players in the league.
He made it look so easy that I had to shout it out and give him the Tony Hawk award today.
That was beautiful.
Trev, you know, one of the things that bonds you and me is our admiration for third base.
And, yeah, he puts on a clinic.
Aaron Otto had the nuts play.
I mean, bare hand in the way he contorts his body.
We're in a golden age of third baseman.
I did a whole rant about it earlier.
So beautiful.
Since when?
Since the 70s?
What's the question?
The last golden age of third baseman.
It's like Brooks Robinson and Greg Nettles.
No, there's an early 90s crew that's really good.
And I think there's a mid to late 2000s or early 2000s.
There's like chipper.
I forget who else is there.
Eric Chavez, Scott Rowland.
Yeah.
There's just more now.
It's turned into a different position, that's why.
A lot of short stops going over there, turning it into more of a defensive position.
you could name 15 short
third basing right now that you're like that guy's a
a superstar it's a superstar laid in position
how about that
god dang I love Matt Chavin too
golly
go gauly gosh
go Reds is so sick
like I love Rez and Matt Chavan
um
bown bown bown bown
bown bown bowns
guys great awards
great awards uh trev
i'll be in thank you well you know what we really did bring it jake so there's so much pressure
on you to be so honest treb i'll be honest if you've got any like tabs open that are on dinosaur
stuff you might want to close them because i'm going to take you for a ride right now um i'm giving
out the pharaoh award um you guys you know ancient egypt the pharaohs i mean on top of
all of it you know top of the food chain i mean
the old Egyptian cast system, you know, six different cast, they are on top, the Pharaoh.
And the other thing that, you know, linked with Egypt forever, Trev, gold. I mean, in ancient Egypt,
if you had gold, baby, you were it, you were the bees, knees, you were the cat's pajamas.
Trev, in our world, the world we live in, you know what gold signifies.
Bitcoin.
When you open up that baseball reference and you see a little gold, that means something special.
That means you are on top of it.
You are the pharaoh.
And this one is, I don't know where you'd find it in baseball reference.
I'm sure they got it somewhere.
But there is a guy who is Numero Uno.
baseball history
28 year old shortstop
Trey Turner
a stud
one of the more underrated
dudes in the game
you look at all the short stops
you get distracted by a lot of other guys
you look at the nationals
you see Soto you see
Schwabo going nuts
Trey Turner
ties the MLB record
MLB record
this is forever ever
for most career cycles
and I
know. Sure, the cycle is what it is. Is four homers cooler? Or three homers in a double? Yeah, I mean,
you know, I get it. Those are good games. But there's something cool about a cycle. It shows your
talents and abilities on the baseball field and different at bats. Sometimes there's luck to it. Sometimes
there's not. It's a really, it's a cool thing in baseball. You did every objective at the plate.
and 28-year-old, he just turned 28 two days ago,
is tied for the MLB record for the most cycles.
I believe it is three.
Yes, the elite three cycle club,
Trey Turner joins that.
And man, like, people,
Adrian Beltray, Babe Herman and Bob Musual,
the three amigos, they get a new friend.
And whenever I get a chance to talk about Trey Turner, I do.
How much have we talked about Trey Turner this year?
You know, it's usually Soto, Schwarber since he's been hot.
He's having a casual 318 batting average, 367 on base, 879 OPS.
That's a 148 OPS plus.
He finished 7th in MVP voting last year.
He has a three war this year.
He's out there, man.
He's leading the NL and stolen base.
He led last year in hits.
14 home runs.
This dude is five tool.
When we name the short stops, you end up saying a lot of names.
You get excited about stories and Correa's and all these guys.
Dude, this guy's page can mess with almost all of them.
That Tatis guy is pretty special.
But Trey Turner is a special player, and he is a pharaoh in baseball history.
And he was just on Chris Rose rotation.
Add, whoops.
Whoops.
Put it in there.
You know,
you're speaking pharaohs and Egyptians.
I get turned on a little bit.
I do know that.
I do know that.
You know that?
My beautiful Egyptian goddess.
That's why.
I start thinking about it.
And Trey Turner,
got to be on,
turns me on a little bit.
And the gold on a baseball reference page.
Now that'll get you going.
I don't think there's a goal for the cycle thing.
but I like what your head's edging.
We'll add it.
We'll add it.
Cyclan.
Still Arb eligible next year, not a free agent.
Crazy.
That didn't come through my headphones.
So I apologize for not having a response.
I didn't hear anything you said.
You're okay.
It was art.
But Pharaoh, Albert Blythe, war heroes, Tony Hawk,
Hero, great awards.
Yeah.
I didn't get a chance to say this, Trev,
but the point you were making about the X-Games is so true.
I remember when the 900, when like Tony Hawk finally landed the 900 and I was like, that's the least cool thing I've seen them do.
Like that's what we're hyping up.
Oh, I like that.
I like that on a lot.
I like when like the grinds and like the like when like the board leaves the feet then comes back like the Bahana era or whatever it's called Benihana.
Yeah.
Shit.
Yeah.
That's straight from the that's straight from like the video game.
Well, yeah.
Well, yeah.
That's where Jimmy's from.
like that.
Tony Hawkett, what's the best of you?
They're just sometimes you see a trick.
You're like, oh, like that's a grind.
They're like, oh, but it was Switch and it was feeble and it was this and that.
And you're like, oh, well, it looked like a grind to me.
But you trust that the announcers know what they're talking about.
Yeah, there's definitely a sport where they were making up names on the fly as well.
Had to.
I looked like a double-monte triple flips.
They still do the X games?
Big time.
Maybe in someone's backyard.
I don't know.
Big time.
We need John Boy Extreme Sports.
Yes.
Anybody in the chat, you're an extreme sports expert and you're good at talking.
We look in.
We should get like a downhill slalom on like the bird scooters take on the riders.
I think we were full the riders.
We would jack up the riders.
Wow.
We would jack up the riders.
If there was like three of them and we had all 20 of our people.
Dude, I'm just saying
They can't get as low as Jake and I can
Around those
Turns
I'm squeezing legs
And just getting need to the head
My heads below the handlebars
Like they can't do that
It's Wolverine
To find a little
Devil's backbone
Race him
There's a chance
That my sister-in-law
No, Paul Rodriguez.
No.
Is he still doing?
Is he still famous?
Do I got to hit him up?
Want to join the team?
Yeah.
We're starting to skate crew.
Want to join it?
It's very exclusive.
Do it, man.
Do it.
All right.
Great awards all around.
BPD, who's the best friend of the week?
Best friend of the week is Walker Bueller.
He goes 6.2 innings pitch, one run, and it's unearned.
So really zero runs.
Of course it is.
7Ks, just three hits
Aladden that span, one walk for fun.
You should dress up as Mark
Anthony, Trev. You and your
wife should go of Halloween.
She'll be Cleopatra, you'll be Mark Anthony.
I mean, that's...
She doesn't...
Or you can be...
She doesn't like that. You can be
Julius Caesar. Why? Because they killed each other?
She's saying it's just too basic for her,
you know, like...
Well, that's why you got to be Caesar or
or Mark Anthony.
You be...
You be Caesar.
Jake will be Mark Anthony.
Yeah, you got a love.
I think it's Antony.
You got a love triangle.
Oh, I'm being Mark Anthony.
Oh, that's a completely different guy.
Yeah.
Yeah, I make a side note about Cedric.
You can run, you can hide, but you can escape my love.
Cedric's actual name is Boyce.
Boyce.
B-O-Y-C-E.
It's either Boisey or Boyce.
Either way, I love it.
Never seen him.
before.
Yeah, I get why he goes by Cedric.
Yeah.
He wasn't dealt a great hand there.
He had two options.
Boyce.
If you're,
if you're a big enough star,
you can spin any name
and the way he's playing,
Boyce Mullins.
I like Boyce Mullins.
Well, that's why,
I mean,
that's why Stanton finally
changed to John Carlo
once he was like,
you know what?
I'll be weird.
How about B.C. Mullins?
Hmm.
I kind of like that as well.
And he could do like some
Flintstones.
Sounds like a guy that keeps pens in his pocket,
like his front pocket of his shirt.
He's seen Mullins.
Yeah.
Little office supply.
Yeah.
No,
I think he's just constantly taking notes.
Like he's almost like a detective.
Ooh.
Yeah.
Like he wears a big trench coat and a top.
Yeah.
It's like a noir detective BC Mullins here.
BC Mullins on the scene.
Hey,
what did you see?
He's like lurking in the shadows.
Like,
like,
like,
like takes it out of his pocket and clicks it
their face. What did you see?
All right.
Some Dave Mira shoutouts in the chat.
Shout out Dave Mir.
That was my guy.
I was a BMX rider for people that don't know.
Still have my bike.
You guys have seen.
I've put out my huge bunny hop.
That was on social media.
I have a grind box.
I do it all.
Your bunny hop video is awesome.
I haven't watched that in so long.
It's just so Trev.
So happy for you when I watch that video.
Thank you.
I got high on that one.
Yeah.
You're bunny hop.
man.
All right.
Elevator talk.
Yes.
It's the last segment of the show.
We're going to get into an elevator.
Let's see what kind of person joins us.
Two minutes on the clock.
The wheel is spinning Trevor.
The person that has walked into the elevator with us is an old 80-year-old man in a newsboy hat.
He's a fan.
of the Oakland Athletics.
So how are you gonna, you know,
they just lost a series for the Rangers.
I ask if he needs help with his bag.
Do you need help, sir?
Hold the door open for you.
Come in.
It beats the shit out of you going to.
I think you say,
how about that Cole Irvin?
What a nice pickup that guy's been.
Do we always just find pitching
everywhere we freaking look?
Yeah, we do.
Dude, I think you say, yeah.
you know, just lost two series in a row,
and we got three big ones ahead of us going first place, Boston,
first place, Houston, and then Texas at Texas again.
Ooh, that's a nice stretch for the A's.
That's a little bit of a tester stretcher in this first half of the season.
So you know what that Sean Murphy's really doing it behind the dish.
I like what he's been about.
You know who would look good in the green and gold?
What if we get Story and Marquez?
And everyone's like, oh, yeah, that sounds good, but it won't happen.
And then you say, you know, that James Cappreliant,
Yankees sure could use him.
Cap.
Good thing he's on our club because he's got a three-daughter for his ERA.
Looking nice.
Four out of the five starters are in the threes for them.
And Frankie Monkos is about it.
They have so many of their starters just not hitting at
all. So, so players that have played all of their last six games, there's six of them.
The batting averages in those last six games, 250 for Pinder, 118 for Kemp, 095 for
Olson, 208 for Andrews, 130 for Loriano and 238's, the highest of the bunch for Chapman.
So their everyday players, all of them are in a full week skid here with the giant.
and the Ranger series.
So someone's got to get out of that.
See you later, old man.
Get out of here.
Beat it.
I think this is your floor.
Jake sucks.
