So that's exciting. I like people watching. The water. 72 degrees and low tide at 1.30. That's a perfect ocean, people. But I'm doing this instead of doing that and then I make some breakdown. So I'll miss it. But tomorrow should be 72 still low tide at 2.30. Still place. Great. So I'm excited. Tropical storm brought out of that warm water up from Florida. Trev. You got to watch the flags on the houses. If they're blowing north, that means water is going to be a little warmer. It's nice.

Evan Phillips is a like a huge number one fan of ours he just posted a picture of his like you know young son wearing a jakes that's the that's the first john boy media athlete right wearing a jake sucks hat at the cincinnati zoo so that's where we're at nice nice um okay change the tone immediately here what a pivot before we get into the nl recap obviously there's been tons of news

and allegations and stories uh Trevor bower uh his camp has released two statements or a bunch of statements now, allegations of, I don't, allegations of abuse or assault. I don't know which one it is, both have come out on the, the athletic has articles covering it. We aren't going to dodge it, but I think it's certainly way too soon to really have a long conversation or anything, but if you're not aware, I would, I would go read up, but be very careful reading because the allegations in the athletic article are horrible and heartbreaking and absolutely a really, really tough read. So obviously this is going to continue and be a story. And I think there will be a time when maybe there's more pieces out and we can fully comment on it. But right now,

I feel like talking about it at length is kind of a, I don't even know. I just think it's not the right. I just not ready. Not enough out. there. Um, and hopefully we get more and hopefully all of that. I know, Trev, you and I agreed on this. Uh, the fact that he's still supposed to pitch on Sunday is, is crazy. Um, there's a mechanism in place to put someone on temporary leave. If there's allegations happening that could be damaging or could be crazy if they, if they be are true. And, and I had a big problem with Dave Roberts saying it's out of our hands. M.O.B said it's like, well, Dave Roberts, you benched Pueig for missing, for being late to practice.

Like, it's not out of your hands. MLB doesn't choose your starters. So that was a big miss. And we'll see if they, you know, I don't think he starts, Jim. They put in place, said, like, if there's allegations, all this, you know, Mickey Calloway got suspended for being a horn dog purve who, you know, sent. And there's precedents. There's precedent set for this to, to, to.

happen. It's happened before. So I believe that they'll step in, whether it's today or tomorrow. I don't think there's any way he's on a mound come Sunday. It sucks. It sucks. Yeah, we'll see what else comes out from it. But if this stuff is true, holy crap. So we'll see what else happens. And it sucks for baseball in society. Yeah, tough read. If you pull up the open the article, they have warnings. Just say make sure don't skip the warnings because it's tough. So let's pivot.

Listen up. I'll tell you a story about a makeup game between the Reds and the Phillies. Miley Pitt. Pretty well. Spike. Six-in-sitching, Spitch, Foreign Run. runs. It's decent enough. The Reds won in that one game, makeup game.

Boring. Here's something that's not boring. The Dodgers swept the Giants. How about that? It was only a two-game set. Bauer and Bueller get it done on the mound. Muncie has two home runs for the Giants, Flores, Crawford and Wade all head home runs. Close games. Three to two at the first game, three to one and second game. So exciting, good baseball. The Dodgers get the sweep. You know who else got the sweep? The brew crew, man, and these weren't that close at games. Brewers put up a 10-run inning in game one. It was 4-4, it ended 14-4 to 4.

A close game, Woodruff first Davies in game two, where the Brewers held on a 2-1 lead. And then the Brewers put up an 8-run inning in game 3 to win 15 to 7 wild games. The Cubs on a bit of a slide here, and the brew crew just cementing and padding and running away with their lead in the first half of the season here. Another sweep.

The Rockies swept the pirates. Wow. Wow. First two games, the Rocky shut them out. And then the third game, it was gray versus cool. And it ends up being six to two. Marquez takes a no-hitter into the ninth and finishes with the complete game. Maybe more on that later.

Maybe. Garrett Hampson had six hits and two extra-based hits. Elias had two home runs. Good job by the Rockies. Not Jake Kleeam anymore. He's a D-back. All right, we had another makeup game. The Mets and the Nationals, they played on April 3rd, and the Nats won.

Come on, Mets, you're supposed to be winning these makeup games to pad your lead. The Mets did come back from being down 5-0 to make it a one-run game, but Zimmerman had a three-run home run in the 8th to break it back open. Then the Mets went on to play three against the Braves, and they lost that series as well. So a tough week for the Mets as they only win one of four games. Braves took two out of three. Three good starts by Morton in that game, which was nuts because the Braves won 20 to 2.

Wild. Who cares about that? I mean, I don't. De Grum, he pitches. He's good. You guys know about him and you like him. Freeman had a walk-off single in game three after Dom Smith tied it with his second home run of the game. So the Mets were like coming back and then just not finishing the deal.

Phillies and the Marlins, NL East opponents, they split a series because game three got postponed. The Marlins hit a little bit. 282 slash line for the team. The Phillies 186, that's almost 100 points better for the Marlins. Wow, how about that? Marlins starting pitchers blew it. 7.2 ERA. Philly's starting pitches also not good.

Phillies bullpen, horrible. Duval had four hits and two home runs. Marte had four hits. Panic. Homer's in the first after the trade. Wow. Harper at two home runs, Velastas had seven, shoutout innings, Pirates and the Reds. Padres and the Reds, my bad, I read it wrong. Padres, take game one. Padres, take game two.

Reds. Take game three to avoid the sweep. Not that much good pitching from the starters here or the relievers all around. Grisham at two home runs. He said he was getting heckled. He did too much. They were being mean to him. That's not Grisham. That's FAM who had five hits, including the home run. Castianos and Winker both hit home runs. runs, All-Star crew. How about that? How about that? Jake's D-BACs got swept by the Cardinals, and the Cardinals, they needed that in a bad way. Wow. Cardinals starting pitchers came to task. We got LeBlanc, Martinez, and Kim, 176 ERA. Seven Cardinals recorded at least three hits,

so they did it on both sides of the ball. O'Neill had five hits and two extra baits hits. Marte placed on the 10-day I-L for the D-backs. And he was a, looking to be traded. So that's a bummer. And there's your NL recap. You guys hear me? Yeah, at first you were quiet, but then BPD fixed it. So way to go, BBD.

My AirPods got chewed up by my dogs. So, you know, and. My bad. You know, when you listen, you know, that was like, I persevered because the music in my headphones were like, eh, uh,

yeah, oh, and, it's like, that's a concert. I'm going to tonight. Yep. Riders.

Or no, what's the, not Riders. No, Riders is the Reds. There's Reds concert. Res concert. There's the Red Riders. And then there's something else

that you don't know about. Anything stand out to you guys? I mean, the Giants lose into the Dodgers. Now they are tied for wins. The Dodgers have 50 and the Giants have 50. And I'm interested. I'm interested to see where it goes from here.

I still believe in the Giants. I think you have to at this point. Like we're so deep into the season, they're so good. But the Dodgers are good. They're dealing with their own adversity now, but they're tied for the first time and wins. So, you know,

if you told me the Dodgers were going to maintain first the rest of the season, I believe you. If you told me that they were going to go back and forth the rest of the way, I believe you. If you told me the Giants were going to win back first place and maintain it for the rest of the season, I wouldn't believe you. John, the, I agree with that.

And the Giants are playing my snakes this weekend as we race to the one pick. So that should be fine. And we'll see what that looks like on Monday. They actually dropped the first game. But yeah, and this is kind of a pivotal time of the season. We've talked, and I think we do it on the Friday episode. But if your team has a tough week, you see like, oh, they're playing. Playoff odds drop 40% or the Nationals. You have a hot week.

Oh, our playoff odds went up 35%. Can you believe it? So this final, like, nine, 10-day stretch going into the All-Star break is going to change the way you feel about a lot of these teams. So this is a real hunker down point. And yeah, I mean, those NL West teams, I'm bought in on all three of them. Good for the Dodgers in San Fran. They get the two-game seven. but I do hate two game sets. And I guess I kind of got to take this on the nose. I went on my weird rant about the Mets kind of coming up against some adversity and getting it tight.

Two games in the NL East right now. They'll play the Yanks this weekend, which might be the great recipe for them to get back on track. But they had a tough week, and the nationals are hot, two games back. So that's the other thing that when I look at the NLNs, standings as a whole is kind of the eye-opener. The Mets get Yanks, which, you know, look, still the Yankees. I think it's in the Bronx, right?

And you're getting Garrett Cole thrown against you. And then tough series there. It's going to be an emotional series. We know that. Freaking awesome weekend series. And then right after that, the Brew Crew, who we need to talk about because they are beating, excuse my language, earmuffs everybody. They're beating the shit out of people.

that was an impressive, an impressive series against the Cubs right there. And they're not even hitting the, I mean, they crushed the ball, but they're not even an offensive team yet. I think they're going to go make a play for a bat.

And then you got that top of the rotation, back end of the bullpen. I think the Brewers is going to be my biggest miss this year, as far as preseason talking about them. I said the Cardinals are going to take down that division easily, as soon as they got Aeronado.

And man, I missed. Like, that pitching is so freaking good. They go out and make a trade for Adomis, who's been incredible for them. They didn't wait around on it. C. Rose made that point. He's like, they went out and did it early. And you know, we talk about them all the time.

They are going to go do something. They're going to, they identify their weakness, which right now would be their offense. I know they just put up a bazillion runs. But they're going to go get a bat, and then we're going to be like the brewers are terrified. in a five and seven game series because they will be because they can shorten the game. I love the brew crew. I'm all in.

I didn't watch this. I'm looking at the actually we had it on in the office, but I wasn't like really watching it. Um, in the in the game that it was four four going into the bottom of the eighth and the brew crew put up a 10 spot. I'm looking at this here. The, the cubbies, um, they brought in Tepera, no, they brought in Trevor McGill to replace Ryan Tepera in that inning, right? And they had already surrendered the lead. It was six to four at that point with two runners on or one runner on and first base open. The, is this, is this, the first pitcher that, the reliever that came in, Trevor McGill,

he, they intentionally walked Christian Yellich as the first at bat. is that usually you would see the pitcher that's about to leave do the intentional walk is that to manipulate the three batter rule like well let's bring him in and he will intentionally walk and that's one batter faced because it's an awful way to bring a guy into a game it's kind of a confidence killer but i think it's i think five years ago you say do that for the pitcher leave and don't make the guy run out and then intentionally walk someone you don't have to throw the pitches now so it's different but they intentionally walk christian yelich and then uh two pitches. later at Thomas it's a three run home run so it's like a tough outing for Trevor McGill what I just wonder I guess that's the side of the three batter minimum that I haven't like seen and take place yeah it's a good point it's a good point

and they won that game 15 to 7. So be careful if you put up a 7 spot is this week's talking baseball message. Yeah. And Trev, you were saying, like, they just like been beating everyone, and it's like they've been demoralizing people in their wake. Like 4-4-4 in the 8th and you score

10, you're down 7 and you put up an 8 spot. Like these aren't just, uh, they, they score 10 in the first inning. And then it's an easy, breezy like laugh for both sides kind of like, well, this one's gone. It's like they're stringing you along, uh, you know, like Muhammad Ali letting you land some punches, letting you like feel like you're in the fight. And then it's like, oh, never mind. It's like the scene in Band of Brothers when they, you know, they play darts with their

left hand and then finally says, I'm a righty and he just kicks his ass, Buck Compton. Great, great UCLA catcher. Oh my gosh. Um, yeah. One bullet, four holes. Yeah. Let me ask you guys something here. What can the Braves do?

The three and, I think three and a half game is back. What can they do? Dude, they, I mean, this has been a, like, catastrophic brave season. I think, like, almost anything that could go wrong has, and they're three and a half games out. It's wild. Like, that's, this NLE's story has just gotten started. I mean, the Nats have thrusts theirself in the conversation. The Phillies just kind of eat bugs along the way.

I think the NLES is just getting going, and I know Chris Rose said it. I think he said it with Archie Bradley on the Chris Rose rotation. Like, those front offices have to be feeling it, because, man, one or two trades at the deadline could very well be the difference in that division. You know what the Braves can do, Trev? You know, they can win.

You know what back? They can, they can win seven of their next nine. They have, uh, they have six against Miami and three against the pirates. So it's a little bit of a stretch there of teams that, you know, they have a better record then. They should be better than they have better talent alone. That's not really shots hard in Miami. Miami's got great pitching and Miami can beat them easily. So, but that if they wanted to get back in the race, I think these next nine games,

is just kind of a window of an opening for them. You got to take care of Miami at home. And take good energy into the All-Star break. And I'm circling all these teams, Cardinals, Reds, Cubs, Phillies, Braves, Nats. I think if you go into the All-Star break and you're above 500, that feels a lot different than being a game below 500. So I'm on 500 watch the rest of the way. Hey, when we get to Denver for the All-Star game,

We're recording on Monday morning a show, right? To recap the final series. Sure are. Can we remember? I'm a huge believer in teams will show you, uh, their gumption in like the last series before the all star break. Like if a good team that's fight,

the Braves just like, and the Yankees, the same boat, um, go down in the twins or whoever, twins are kind of out of it already. But you know what I'm saying? Like fringe teams that you're like,

maybe they could turn it around. even though we don't really believe in them. How do they attack those last six games before the break? Because I think bookends are important in sports and life. You want to start strong. You want to finish strong. So if Yankees, Braves, these teams that are like looking dead, act dead before we even in those last series before the All-Star game, I think that's a sign of calling it quits a little bit. I just read Yanoa, who obviously punched his way out of the last.

lineup, I mean, out of the roster, 60-day I-L. They're talking late August for him to return it. That's if he's a starter. If they want to bring him back as a reliever, the time could speed up a little bit. So maybe they do that. Maybe they get him back early August and have him go two, three innings out the pen, build himself up in the show because they need that. It's one of the things they need is some pitching in the bullpen.

And obviously him in the rotation makes that a, that a pretty damn good rotation. If they get everyone healthy and kind of click it at the same time, and you got Ion-Onderson, big game Charlie Morton, Max Fried and you know what? I'm in. That Jose Ramirez trade, you've been teasing all year.

That's what I'm saying, man. Jim, I talked about it at the end of a pretty wild Wake and Jake episode yesterday. Cole Tucker Cameo, not a big deal. Tim LoCastro trade broke. My favorite story of that is the 20, formerly my Rockies, The 2019 Rockies, who had been to the playoffs, the two years before that,

they were in the second wild card spot. They limped into the All-Star break. I think they lost six games heading into the All-Star break. They had an atrocious second half and now look where the Rockies organization is. You know, you think you have a team that is getting better and so much young talent and a young core. And now, well, they got the All-Star game, so that's good. Yeah, and the nationals who I did say, I think are legitimate, can be legitimate contenders. They got a brutal stretch coming up, and this will show a lot.

A little bit. How about you want some gumption? You want some gumption? Go beat the Dodgers and the pot race. Show me your gumps. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. I hate websites so much sometimes. I'm trying to just find that.

I'm sorry. That's a complete. West Coast. Oh, that is a brutal. Brutal West Coast swing to end it. They have Dodgers at home, and then they go to San Diego to San Francisco. Buckle up. I'm trying to find just an easy, straightforward list of the NL First Place All-Stars. Okay.

There's a Twitter account for All-Star Game. I found it. I'm interested to see how many are on first-place teams, because you have two Reds. You have Pirates. Little breaking news. You have the Braves. Your mean Mercedes. What?

Your mean Mercedes sent down. Yeah, you got optioned. Sent down. Yeah. No, I know. I think, do you get optioned or do you get optioned? Option sent down. Go, Tony.

Do we have no NL All-Star on a first place team? Posey. Posey. That's kind of funny, right? Like no division leading team has a starting all-star player besides the catcher, Buster Posey. and they're now somewhat tied. Yeah. Yeah.

Do you want to talk about the Padres at all? Father of mine. There's some talk about the Padres and what they're going to do with Eric Hosmer. And you guys know I love the guy. The numbers aren't great, especially comparatively to first baseman around the league. that would be something

because there are talks about maybe a little gallo going over there now Will Myers also isn't performing Chris Rose brought this up this morning maybe he can go take some time away from Myers but also this Hosmer thing man making a lot of money for a lot of years coming up but he just hasn't it's not hasn't worked out I don't think the way they want now maybe

how they're going to trade him they're not going to trade him they're saying like you think they're going to eat that now? Not eat it just maybe play less okay he's got it he's right at

replacement level he's got a 0.0 4.0 war 91 OPS that's below replacement below league average 91 OPS plus excuse me 666 OPS that's daunting it's just you know look if you're the

Padres and you got to go up against these teams and make moves. Like you can't afford to have your first base player not be an above average bat. Yeah. I'm curious to see if they address that. I mean, they owe him. I mean, after this season, he's got four more years under contract and over $60 million on the books. So like they're not going to be able to move him.

So it may be in their best interest if they're winning games and playing. well to try and get him into being good again. You know, maybe if it comes to September, late August, and they're in a race and he's not performing, I don't think you can, I don't know, I don't think you can act on that now. But maybe. Maybe. I hate saying that because I do love Hodg. And I do believe he's an asset to the team.

But I think it also served them well to, like, kind of have someone that's providing more offense. Did the White Sox replace your mean Mercedes with a guy named Jake Burger? Come on. until after the All-Star break, but he is coming back. I don't know what that means for them. Their season had been dead. White Sox sweep the twins. Moving on, the Mariners, who have beaten some really freaking good teams lately take two out of three from the Blue Jays

in Buffalo. 9 3 Blue Jays game 1 and the Mariners won 9-7 and 7-2 Both offenses were solid Which means the pitching wasn't great My guy J.P. Crawford We mentioned him Him and Hanager had five hits a piece

Moving on, this was a fun one. I think you guys are familiar with the Angels go into the Bronx and they take two out of three. It was a four game set.

The fourth game got postponed. Five three Angels. 11, five Yankees and then the bad one. 11 to eight Angels. O'Tonnie comes in that game. It gets taken out in the first inning. Looks great for the Yankees and then the rain comes. And then more rain comes.

And then Jared Walsh brings even more rain with a grand slam off of Chapman to win at this. series essentially for the Angels. Both teams hit pretty well. Neither team pitched really well. Taney had three damn Jimmy Jacks, Walsh had two in a Glacius. Seven hits and a homer. Upton could return from the I.L. When eligible on Saturday, I don't think it matters.

I think the Angel season is also dead. Clint Frazier exits game three with busyness. I can't wait to hear you guys talk about that. And our guy Tim McChastrow is going to the Yankees. But they lose two out of three to the Angels. Moving on, the Tigers go into Cleveland, take two out of three. 13-5 Indians, 9-4 Tigers and 7, 7-1 Tigers in 7. The Tigers hit, the Indians hit, the Tigers didn't pitch, the Indians didn't pitch.

Cabrera 6 hits, three extra base hits, including two homers, Ramirez and Bradley, two homers each, and Hernandez were five hits. Bieber still not expected to throw again for another one to two week, but Plesack made his rehab start. Eddie Rosario, my gosh, they have a lot of injuries. Sent for an MRI on his for some right abdominal tightness. And Frammel, our guy, he's expected to return Saturday. So that's some good news for the Indians.

Eovaldi continued. have a great year seven shuddy in game four whit mirrofield did his thing but wasn't enough bobby dollback exit's game two and sits three and four expected to return on sat but the red socks continue to roll they sweep the royals in the four game set this one is insane to me the orioes go into houston and they sweep the freaking astros nine seven thirteen three five the two they hit the crap out of the the Astros did not. It's Houston's third time being swept this season. In Baltimore, second time sweeping a team this season. Mollins, our guy, had eight hits in a homer. Franco and Hayes, six hits a piece. The Astros had two extra base hits all series. That's freaking crazy.

They did draw 22 walks in the three games. And last series, Rangers go into Oakland. They take two out of three from the A's, five, four Rangers, three one A's, eight three Rangers. Gallo had four homers and sticks RBIs. He's basically saying, get me the hell out of Texas. Please someone come scoop me up. No A's player recorded more than three hits. Bassett does have a great game.

But I'm interested to see how they bounce back because, man, the Orioles come and punch you in the mouth a little bit.

that they, they give a lot of credit to developing the, everything that the Astros did that made them successful. They gave this guy, Sig, a lot of credit for all aspects of what made the Astros good. And he went to the Orioles to help them scout and develop. and be better.

So a lot of that is like that middle tier of the AL. We were kind of talking about this. that middle tier of the AL is kind of just a mess of like nothingness like there's the five good teams and then it's just like a mess. It's just baseball like you can't sometimes these guys are going to win

you know especially when Joey Gallo goes out and hits freaking bomb after bomb after bomb like you could take a series because of that and it's kind of what happened. The Red Sox I don't I said this morning that they should they should go look at Joey Gallo and a lot of people in that chat

when I was on the IG library. They don't need any bats. I'm like, dude, you need all the bats you can get. Like Chris Sale is coming back. Your pitching staff isn't great. Your bullpen's been great. So Chris Sale will be a nice welcome addition. You know, is he going to return to like Sy Young sale?

Probably not. But I mean, fucking maybe. The guy is a stud. But they just hit, man. Most. And it was very, it was a very top heavy lineup, but they've gotten some guys like going, like Hunter Renfro has been going.

Verdugo's been a lot better as of late. But I still think, man, like, if they want to really do it, like they're going to have to be a team that, like, has their starters go long enough to turn it to the bullpen and then they got to score runs. Like, I still think they need to make moves. They're not this team, this juggernaut team, but they could be if they made some moves.

Most wins in baseball. 51 dubs for the Red Sox. And yeah, you expect them to beat the Royals, but sweep four at any time. you sweep four games. That's impressive. So the Red Sox continued to continue. And yeah, I mean, Treve, what you're saying is, you know, always get better. There's always room on a baseball team for whether it's reliever or upgrading a bat or upgrading something. There's always room. 26-man roster. So they're, I mean, they are going to be a team around the deadline. I have no

idea. Are they going to make like the big splash? And then it's all very real. Like do the Red Sox? because let's be honest, we've enjoyed, you know, the Red Sox are a fun team. Jim, you've talked about their lineup construction on how they've rolled the same dudes out there, and a lot of those guys have been mashing. And we've talked about some of their pitcher success. But, man, you know, we haven't really talked about them as World Series contenders. And I think if they do make a splashy move, I don't know who it is. I don't know if it's a hitter.

I don't know if it's a starting pitcher. I don't know if it's a lights out reliever. But I think then we say, like, the Red Sox put them in the mix with the Dodgers, put them in the mix with whoever else you like when the World Series, Houston. Treve, I think you had a question. Are you interested in two-for-ones?

I really am. Because the Red Sox went out and got Gallo and our freaking guy Gibby. Don't you buy steak me. Then we're talking. And I think that's a combo that might be moved together. I don't know how that works in trades. You get more if you do them separately, possibly.

These guys are going to be worth a lot because they come with additional years of control. This isn't a rental. Joey's got another year of arbitration. Gibby's got very affordable years on his contract left. So the Padres could be there. The Red Sox could be there. The Yankees clearly need these two. So this is going to be interesting.

I think whoever lands those two guys, now we're talking like, okay, that team got exponentially better. Yeah. So for two seasons, I've said I have no idea how the Rangers operate and we've tried to guess like what we think they would do or should do and we never got it right. So I'm going to try to pivot and go off what we learned last year. And they didn't trade Lynn at the deadline, even though they were shopping him heavily and they were begging teams to meet. Like we know they were trying to trade him at the deadline last year because they thought they could get a haul. No one gave them close to what they wanted in season.

Maybe that was short in season. New GM too, Jamm-O. Yeah, I know, but there's still a lot of the same crew surrounding that GM operating and there. And they got a deal that they liked for Lynn after the season. So Gallo and Gibby, they're not rentals. They have another year of control. So they could very much go to Lance Lynn route. But they're both so hot right now.

Like both, you can't get hotter than they are. So is a Liddy pitch into a two. I know. I love maybe, but I don't know if he's a few guy. That makes me think that they're going to want even more than they wanted for Linn, which they couldn't get.

And then they're happy to settle and trade it in the off season. Yeah, but the difference, yeah, I mean, the difference is the extra years of control and they're cheap. like they could they're going to get a haul for these guys like that's a huge thing for people like yeah you want to go get a rental sometimes but you don't want to give a lot of prospect capital for that that's probably what happened last year with lynn like they're not going to give a bunch of prospect capital to go get a guy for three months uh or two months but you're not doing that here and these guys are affordable like i think this is going to be a big splash somewhere yeah i'd love it

last year would you like it yankees boom that fixes a lot of problems for you guys Yanks got a lot of problems going on. It fixes a lot of your problems. And Tim Lo Castro will fix them all. Yeah, Rangers, I hope we can chalk it up to Weird Year last year, and now they've got the new GM because you are seven-a-half games out of fourth place to the LA Angels. 16 and a half back in the division. So, I mean, the writing's on the wall.

So we'll see what happens there. Mariners do deserve more love, 43 and 39. that is a better record than the Yankees. That is a better record than the Blue Jays. J.P. Crawford Pot. Shout out every episode. Washington State Cougars, college game day. Same thing.

You're not winning this year and year to year. I'm not, I'm not being like, I'm not trying to shit talk the Mariners. Like, they're impressive and they're winning. But look at the AL. It's not a World Series season.

So if you can still help next tier's team or if they want to opt in, that's fine, man. But they could, they could trade him and sign them, you know it could be an or Aldous Chapman if he loves Seattle like he's a free agent again so who knows yeah the interesting thing with the Mariners is that this is one of those situations we're like they're playing really well right now and they just beat three took series from three really good teams it was got to look at it again I keep forgetting it was they're saying they swept the race they they beat the white socks in a series and they just beat Toronto in a series like they beat good teams but like I agree with you this like I agree with you this like I'm I don't count the Blue Jee's there, but I count the first one. Why not? That's a good team.

I think they're in the middle mess with everyone. I think they're similar to the Mariners. What I'm saying is this is probably a year early for them. They have a lot of young talent. They don't even have Kyle Lewis playing right now. Like he's one of their guys. They don't even have him. So I do believe there's a ton of talent and it's young on this team.

So you could go one or two ways here. You could keep this team together and get him some experience like with a freaking playoff run, like a stretch run. like, hey, this is what it's going. Hello. Lost them. And Jim, just covering your butt from the commenters. You know, Kukuchi, that funky contract that we talked a lot about,

you know, the team options on it are 16 and a half mil. And the way he's pitching right now is like a 25 mil per year pitcher. So they could want him to opt in for the next. Sorry. Yeah. You can go one or two ways. You can say this is what it's going to take. Go through the stretch run. is Hermann Marquez of Jake's X, Rocks. Nine innings pitched, zero earned runs, only gave up one hit. He took a no hitter into the ninth inning. He also hit two doubles with an RBI. Now, I'm at the point where it's not just a single game because usually this was against a low team, not a great team. So sometimes I'd let that slide and look for a pitcher who dominated a good team like my dude Kukuchi. but I think the conversation about Marquez is cool. He changed his most secondary pitch and it's this slider.

And if you watch the slider, it does not look great. It's not a wipeout slider. He actually uses it almost as a changeup. It's so tight and sometimes it doesn't even really move that much. And he uses it as a get me over strike. Like he had He had 41% called strike plus whiff on his 27 sliders. So he was using it to get called strikes,

but also using it for whiffs, which is cool. He can't kind of manipulate it. It didn't have it last year. The curveball and the slider both have a 42% width rate for Herman Marquez. He's got two more years left on his contract, but they're pretty cost friendly. So I think if the Rockies aren't interested in

competing in the next two years and they think they're a little bit ways out, they may be able to get a haul. Maybe it doesn't happen in season, but right now you could get, they could really get a lot because someone would have Herman Marquez for pretty cheap for the rest of this season, for really cheap the rest of this season. And then you get him for two more years.

And he's putting together some big numbers. So great game by him, did it with the bat, did it on the bump and a good season now. His pitching, his ERA sucks and the reason why ERA sucks, because he has two games this season where he gave up eight earned runs, like absolute ERA ruiners. So he's got a three six.

But, you know, that's not his average start. He's got his average start is probably like six innings pitch, two earned runs. There's a, you know, I love my rocks, obviously, previously my rocks. when Trev starts talking about Gibby, who we love. And I think you get Gibby on a playoff team, and you know what you're going to get. Like, Gibby's going to take the mound. He's going to fight, battle, you know.

He's going to give you everything. Hermann Marquez is a guy that can change your outlook in a big way. Like, that's a guy that can go toe to toe with pretty much anyone in baseball. If he's right, if they move him to a team, look out. I think he's going to be a name that's known a lot more around baseball. Because this guy's gross. I mean, Jim, you're so right with the ERA. I would love for the nerds to give me some fake information I can believe in.

Like if he pitched his career in Oakland, what his ERA would be. Because I bet it would be like a 315 instead of a 416. Yeah. Yeah. And those two eight inning outings are bad. and I you know I'm not like anti-ERA like because the best pitchers don't have those Albatross outings but you shouldn't just it shouldn't be the end all be all you should have to look a little deeper and be like wait hold up this guy's got two horrible horrible starts

up the Grand Slam against Chapman that's a hell of an bet lefty lefty Chapman's platoon splits against left-handed batters a 133 batting average 184 slug for a 431 OPS

obviously dominates left-handed hitters Walsh gets the hang and slug and slide ball. That slide ball didn't slide too much. And Walsh deposited it into the bullpen for the Grand Slam. Awesome freaking at bat. So it got me looking into his stuff.

What happened with Walsh, Angels fans? He wasn't very good in college. I think he was a fourth year draft pick. His career in college, he had a 724 OPS. then he comes to pro ball and absolutely rakes was there an adjustment made i just i need to know what happened did he like put on a bunch of weight did he get stronger because he came in in the

minors five seasons in the minors after hitting to a seven 24 ops in college in the minors in five seasons a nine-thirteen ops now he's in the major leagues with a career eight seventy three so clearly he made some sort of adjustment foolish baseball did call it before the season he said a lot of the Angel's success will rely on how much they're going to play Walsh. Well, they got rid of Pooholz. They're playing Walsh. He's become a guy. But I need to know what happened. Like, I'm clapping for the guy because he's been an awesome story this year, but I need to know what happened at Georgia. So congratulations on your homer against Chapman. That was very impressive. And I love it because we got some awesome footage of Jimmy and Jake at Yankee Stadium until like one in the morning.

The first time split, but he doesn't throw it with runners on base. He's not comfortable enough there, but he throws, he's comfortable enough to use it as a third pitch with a clean, clean base paths. Interesting.

And the book written by Stephen Ambrose and then the movie, they say Albert Breith was, they kind of say he wasn't like he was scared of war. They used him as the character to say, you know, some people feared it. and he had temporary blindness, and they say he died. He gets shot in the neck and in the book and the movie say he died.

Like the end of this episode in Band of Brothers, it says Albert Blythe died in 1944, whatever it is. And it's just simply not true. It was a mistake. Albert Blythe got a purple heart. He got shot in the shoulder, not the neck. He didn't die. He went and was an airborne trooper in the Korean War and continued his military career. He was full of gumption and bravery.

and they just got the history wrong. And a lot of people think of him as a scaredy cat that died in war and not a hero who took a bullet and kept fighting for his country. And this award goes to Cedric Mullins. Because this is exactly why I made the month by month John Boy Media all league team. Because the All Star game is a bunch of hogwash. And the fact it gets put on the awards on baseball reference for players pisses me straight. straight off. The AL outfielders are Buxton, Trout, and Judge. And that's great names to promote the sport. That's what the All-Star game is. So I'm not really fighting that. But there's still people who use it as history of who had a good season, who didn't. And it's just wrong, man.

Cedric Mullins is one of the three best outfielders in the American League right now. He has a 322 batting average. He has a 391 on base percentage. She's got a 942 over. OPS. He's got 22 doubles and 14 home runs and 15 stolen bases. He's played 80 games. Mike Trout has played 36. Byron Buxton has played 27. Sedgwick Mullins has played 80 games. He's got a 156 OPS plus. day and day out, he's the best out, one of the best outfielders in the American League, and he's not a first round all-star pick because it's not about who's having a good season. It's about who will draw a crowd. And I'm fine with that. But I think it needs to be more known to the public that, like, this is not an assessment of skill.

Because if it was an assessment of skill for the season, Sedgick Mullen should be the one or two pick for the American League, all-star team. And it pisses me off. And, you know, there's a game people in five years that go, look, who were the all-stars for the American League? Oh, they must have been having good years. Like, no, they were hurt. They didn't even play. A bunch of hogwash. So much like Albert Blythe, Cedric Mullen's history is being written incorrectly.

He'll be an all-star, but he deserves to be starting the all-star game. He deserves to be getting way more fanfare than he is. He should be getting hype right now. Yeah, 100%. It should be the Cedric Mullen's hype train. part of that is the Orioles being inept and being a bad baseball team. If he, you know, if this was Orioles teams in past, like the Orioles not too long ago, we're a, at least, you know, juggernaut.

I think we'd be seeing a lot more of Sederate Mullen. So I think that has something to do with it, but I agree with you, Jim. I think that the naming the All-Star team in the middle of the year is dumb. It should be named at the end of the year. That's the one that should count. I know we have like an all-MLB team at the end of the year. Like the All-Star, that's the one that should count. Yeah.

Yeah, the All-Star game in the middle of season. There are guys that every year that don't necessarily deserve to be there. And I'm happy for them to get the nod and whatever. It's good for you. But, you know, it should be a full season. And fellas, you know, you guys normally think I'm joking. I don't know where you get that impression from. But, you know, the Jam baseball team, like, guys, look around.

Well, my peoples, I will not be doing a Tolkien Baseball Award today. Instead, I will be doing my other favorite thing. Talking about extreme sports, I'm giving out the Tony Hawk Award. And this award is going to go to someone who made a play that was very technically difficult. And I always found it interesting when I would watch the X games. You'd watch these certain extreme sports, whether it be skateboarding, whether it be BMX, there's always tricks that the announcers who are versed in these sports went crazy about. And you'd look at them and you'd be like, that didn't look that crazy.

And all they would say is, that is technically so difficult to do. You got to do this and that. And you're looking at like, well, the cool spinning 900 looks cooler than like the technical back foot or switch foot kick flip, whatever it is. I'm sorry, I don't know the terms. You know what I'm saying. If you've ever watched the X games, you know that there are just some things that are a lot harder that don't look that hard. Or these guys make it look very easy.

That happened in the game yesterday with my boy Maddie Chapman of the A's playing in Oakland. All that foul ground territory pop up from a lefty going over towards the bullpen. The mound in play, obviously. He goes there, tracks it down. The ball's coming back. So he actually went over his glove hand shoulder here with the glove like this while going over the fucking mound and made the catch. And you watch it and you're like, oh, the third baseman caught the foul ball.

Great. But that is the way he had to go over to get the ball with the high sun because it was a day game and then have to navigate a freaking mound. He went 70, 80 feet all the way to get there, maybe even more than that. he's like 100 feet. It was so technically advanced that like I just want people to go back and watch the highlight and just give it some admiration and respect because it was an incredible play that to someone who maybe doesn't know a ton about the game would just be like oh yeah he caught the flyball.

But my gosh, like that guy has obviously one of the better defensive players in the league. He made it look so easy that I had to shout it out and give him the Tony Hawk award today. That was beautiful. Trev, you know, one of the things that bonds you and me is our admiration for third base. And, yeah, he puts on a clinic. Aaron Otto had the nuts play. I mean, bare hand in the way he contorts his body. We're in a golden age of third baseman.

I did a whole rant about it earlier. So beautiful. Since when? Since the 70s? What's the question? The last golden age of third baseman. It's like Brooks Robinson and Greg Nettles. No, there's an early 90s crew that's really good.
