Starting point is 00:00:02 Hello and welcome to talking baseball. What a week it was. The Mets are fighting. The Dodgers lost a series. Oh, no. Oh, White Sox can't win. Hello and welcome to talking baseball presented by Seat Geek. My name is Jimmy.
Starting point is 00:00:37 I got Trevor joining us from California. Jake and BPD coming to you from the studios in Manhattan, Draf King Studios. What a week it was. I think I tried to declare last week, sweep week or sweep weekend. And now this is sweep weekend. This is sweep week. So a lot of teams winning and a lot of teams losing in bunches. I'm excited to run through it with you guys.
Starting point is 00:01:06 Trev, how are you? I'm doing great. Yes, there was a lot of sweeps. One farewell that we'll talk about later in the show. I got a haircut. So like feeling real good about myself. Got a party I was telling you about at my house tonight. Might be a belly dancer.
Starting point is 00:01:27 So things are looking up for me on a Friday. Big baseball game tomorrow at 8 a.m. So that'll be interesting to see how I do that after a big party. But I'm built Diffy. So I'll figure it out. Jake, how you doing, baby? James, Trevor, BPD. Bobby Skinner, Talking Giants can see.
Starting point is 00:01:47 them in the other room right now. They're having fun with the NFL draft. I'm doing well. I'm doing well. Got to a couple of Yankees games this week. Yanks are hot in the streets. Mets are hot in the streets. New York City.
Starting point is 00:02:00 Jets and Giants fans are both happy. I'm doing well, man. I'm doing well. We love a good sweep week because that means we get to give our hot takes. Overreact and more after the break. No, we just talk about it and we have conversations. because that's where media is going. People like to like that.
Starting point is 00:02:20 So I'm excited for our halos. Our halos are going to get a little love this episode, baby. And White Sox, what the H, man, AL Central. So excited to yuck it up with the boys on a Friday. And you know we're going to end with the simulation, stimulation. Who? Who? James? And you got a lot of room to move over there for the simulation today. James, as you can see is at home.
Starting point is 00:02:49 What's up, James? What's up? I don't know, man. These reds. He's got the standings in front of me right now. That's what you're going to start off with. These reds? I got the standings in front of you right now.
Starting point is 00:03:04 They haven't won a fourth game yet. That's what I mean, bro. Well, we're not going to talk about them like next month. It's going to be like, well, their season's over. We can't talk about them. So I figure we just get some more. Words in. It's just glaring, looking at all the standings.
Starting point is 00:03:21 Bad. Three and 16. It's not good. Joey Bottles not happy. Someone called me Trevor Gump in the chat. That's tough. Gumpshin, maybe. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:33 It's short for gumption. Maybe. I think they were saying I have a bad haircut, like a military cut. Oh, wow. Reminder, you guys know more about your team than us. So help us out because I didn't watch any of the angels. games.
Starting point is 00:03:47 Oh. I was watching a lot of the Yankees games. And Mets. I've been watching a little bit of Mets games when they're on. Taylor Ward's all, it's all you need to know. There's more than that, bro. That's all you need to know.
Starting point is 00:04:00 The show's over. Taylor Ward. Taylor Ward. And Trebs twins on the biggest winning streak in all of MLB. Some hot, some hot boys. We might not talk about that too later on the show. I think we just need to get ready. Wow, look, Treves twins, my Yankees and Jake's Angels,
Starting point is 00:04:17 all on winning streak. DVD's Reds getting fucked. Bigot stink, dog. Your snakes, though, baby, your snakes. Snakes got a couple wins, let's go. We play for rings in the desert. You know what else we play for? Comfortable jeans.
Starting point is 00:04:36 Well, Seekek, yeah. Jim, what's the only pair of jeans you wear? Mugsy jeans. Honest, that's an honest thing. They're the only jeans I wear. And I think we all need to discuss how good I looked on well-dressed Wednesday. Head to toe in Mugsy.
Starting point is 00:04:52 Trev, did you see that? Okay. Yes, I did. You looked really good. Probably your best outfit that you've worn. But you stole my look, and I have a story about that jacket, that jacket. The jacket is like when, you know, girls use big sunglasses, guys use a beard.
Starting point is 00:05:11 Like, there's things that just help you look better. The jacket's one of those things. It's a performance enhancer almost. Well, anything from Mugsy is basically a PED. Because I was head to toe in it. It was the best I ever looked in my life. People were shocked. It got to the point where it became rude.
Starting point is 00:05:27 That, like, people came up to me and gave handshakes. And they're like, Jake, you actually, you look good today. And it's like, okay. So, so, so if you want to look good, I would get your Mugsy. What do I do in my Mugsy's activities? Walk around town. Yeah, you can. Especially for those.
Starting point is 00:05:46 For those people. watching the one-inning league and warehouse games. I've been doing a lot in my Mugsy. Go get yourself some jeans. Go get yourself a jean jacket. I didn't know. I didn't know it was a performance enhancer. I told you that.
Starting point is 00:05:57 Oh, my God, Trev. We need to fight soon. Performance enhancing denim. PEDs. Look at that. I mean, that's the slogan. Mugsy, you're welcome. We're geniuses.
Starting point is 00:06:09 I'll take the credit for that. I said it first. What? Know what you need to do. Go to Mugsy.com. Use code baseball. 10% off your entire order. Free your balls with these performance enhancing denims.
Starting point is 00:06:28 Code baseball 10% off at mugsy.com. Hostile. That was a good read. Jim, are you batting lead off today? Yeah. What's your approach at the plate? What's that? Are you trying to see pitches?
Starting point is 00:06:45 Are you looking sitting dead red first pitch? Ambush. By getting in and getting out. Yeah. Story Jake's life, baby. See, Kek. You ready? We opened up with a one game series
Starting point is 00:07:04 because of the lockout and the Giants beat the Brewers in that game. Eight giant pitchers combined for two runs. I love that. This is a makeup game. Wasn't even on the schedule. We're just going bullpen day.
Starting point is 00:07:17 Everyone's going to do weird shit on that. Ernsie had a good outing. Struck out 11. Giants win four to two. The Phillies swept the Rockies in four games, a four games sweeperoo. They scored eight runs, ten runs, seven runs, and seven runs. How about that? Good pitching performances from Gibby, Eflin, Ranger, and Wheeler.
Starting point is 00:07:38 So the Rockies were looking good. Jake thought it was a big test for them. The Phillies needed wins, and the Phillies get four of them. I think, now I'm not positive. I think Schwer might have hit for the cycle in the series because he did get a triple. More on triples later. Don't fucking talk about them. Padres sweep the Reds, obviously.
Starting point is 00:07:56 Good for the Padres for doing what you need to do when you play the Reds. Some other teams are going to mess it up and lose the game. Musgrove, six innings pitch. Two earn runs, an error allowed in some other. Padre scored eight in the fourth inning of game one. Nuts. Lottie Goetz had a bad outing. Mackenzie Gore at a good outing.
Starting point is 00:08:15 He struck out 10 pro far to three-run Homer in the second. And game three, Kim had a go-ahead three-run. and double in the sixth to make it a sweep. The Mets and the Cardinals had a lot of fun in St. Louis. The Mets win the first two games. The Cardinals win the third. Mets get hit and thrown at. Aronado gets thrown at.
Starting point is 00:08:35 He starts yelling. The bench is clear. Everyone's upset. Bassett, I like you. I declared that I like you. Bassett came out and said the Mets get hit so much because the new ball is different. No, the Mets get hit so much because they already led the league and hit by pitches. and then they added Marte and Cana two more guys that get hit by pitches a lot.
Starting point is 00:08:54 And a very smart podcast told you you were going to get hit a lot before the season started. But the Mets are angry. Matt's fournings pitched four and runs and Cooke-Coresco, three-nings pitched seven runs in a messy game three of two guys that have worn the Mets. The forms before. DeBacks took two out of three from the Dodgers in kind of a shocker. They lost game one where Bueller went absolutely off. and then in game two and three, they had eight-eight-inning comebacks or eighth innings to take the lead against Gratterol
Starting point is 00:09:28 and against Hudson, I believe, with some errors in the mix for game three. The Brewer swept the pirates. You need two. That's what you have to do when you play the pirates right now, so good for them. Woodruff, not a great outing in game one. Ashby has the longest start of his career. five point two innings pitch, one earn run in game two,
Starting point is 00:09:51 and Peralta six shutout innings with seven Ks in game three. So the pitching gets it done for the brew crew in the last two games, hitting got it done the first game. Braves took two out of three from the Cubbies. Are they sliding now? Stroman had a good start. Freed had a better one in game one. Lighter, junior, not that lighter, his cousin, two shutout innings.
Starting point is 00:10:16 Is he like an opener? guess. Morton, 2.1, in-stitch, three-run runs. See an opener? Just a bad day. Who knows? Someone does? Cubs fans. Braves win the bookends. Nationals get swept by the Marlins, because if you're playing the Nats right now, you got to sweep them. Alcandera with a nice start. Lopez, six shutout innings in game two, and Rogers, six innings pitch, one earn run in game three. So pitching gets it done for the fish, and that's You know, I couldn't hear the music. I was worried.
Starting point is 00:10:57 It starts getting nervous. It's like, well, is it happening? Is it not happen? That was a great job, Jim Bob. I put my notes in, boys. Put my notes in front of your guys' faces. And I couldn't hear the music. So I was just like in my own world going blind there.
Starting point is 00:11:11 I was worried I went too long. Great. Treve, what? Twisted towers. What? What series jumped out for you, Tref? I got to give it to my. fills.
Starting point is 00:11:23 Oh, give these fills. I've been telling people, yes, you can start off poorly, but the Phillies are going to be there at the end of the year. Where I don't know. They're going to be somewhere. And I think they're going to be like right around 88 to 90 wins. See where that puts them in the standings. But rocks come into town, rocks are hot.
Starting point is 00:11:46 Rocks aren't hot anymore. Got that cold, Rocky Mountain blue on the can. The Phillies drank all of that. Okay, to get the sweep. Ghibi came on the show, I think right after he, uh, pitched,
Starting point is 00:11:56 right? Came against some tidbits. And, uh, I think Phillies need, needed this. I mean, they need to this away.
Starting point is 00:12:05 They're six away now from Gibby having to dress like, uh, Guy is so true. Yeah. We have to dress up as Enosaris if they, um, that,
Starting point is 00:12:16 that Philly series just let, just like their offense. A four game sweep is impressive, but 11. different batters had an RBI and I believe 12 different batters scored a run and six had extra base hit or seven had extra base hit. So like they fucking really hit. You hear it. It really hit. Bryant was out for the Rockies. That made things a little bit nicer for the Phillies. But I think one thing I want to point out in the game was Led Zefflin coming and having a good start
Starting point is 00:12:49 there. Rotation depth. Everyone needs it. you get guys throwing like that, you know, your four guy, that's how you start to put these wins together and stack them so we can get Givie in costume again. Everyone's a Phillies fan for the next six games so we can get Givie in that beautiful Willie Wonka costume. When you hear Trev and how excited he is about the Phillies, it's why Jim just said.
Starting point is 00:13:12 They have so many dudes. They have so many dudes that if two of them have a big series, you can do this. Listen to these scores. 8, 2, 10, 3, 7, 3. 7-1. They dominated the Rockies, and that's what this Phillies team to do,
Starting point is 00:13:28 and you even heard it in Gibby's voice. I mean, every guy on their own team obviously believes it's going to come together, but he's like, you know, there's a lot of bad dudes in that locker room. Gibby is, you know, it's a different kind of sexual bad man in the fact that he's a very sweet, nice man.
Starting point is 00:13:45 But that's almost how he rips out your soul even more. Okay, Gibby. Yeah. Gibby's a... I love Gibby. They also stole some bags, like Harper and Real Mudo, both stole two bases each. Kind of stood out to me. I was like, oh, I want to go watch this.
Starting point is 00:14:02 Does this coincide with the Schwabber blow up on Angel? This little run. Coming off Sunday night baseball, yeah. Here we go. Yeah. I said that. I said sometimes you need something like that. Fire the crowd up, fire the clubhouse up, get you talking about something different.
Starting point is 00:14:19 Swarb hasn't really even been getting it going either. I'm looking at his game log and just. You know, he off and on, off and on, off and on, 164. Once he gets going too, look out. Black Manette, a nice series for the Rocks. Crone, yeah, no Bryant. And yeah, that Rocky's hot start. Now you're 10 and 9.
Starting point is 00:14:42 So that's early season baseball. Padres, too. Yeah, Padres, we talked about the Reds already, but they're like off-fold. Joey Votto's quotes were. sad. But I love how honest he's being. He's like, it's embarrassing and it's frustrating or whatever he said. Machado had nine hits in that series. I mean, the Padre scored nine runs, eight runs, and seven runs. They didn't really, the Reds got runs. They scored six, five, and five.
Starting point is 00:15:14 Just lost. It's got to be a little frustrating. Are we going to talk about Eric Cosmer and what he's doing to shut people up? I mean, the entire last two years, all he's heard is he can't play first base. He can't hit. Get him out of there. Padres need to move on for him. Bad contract. He's hitting 4.15 right now. Seven walks, 10 strikeouts. He's hitting for power. Mani Machado, leading baseball in war right now. He's going nut job. And the other thing I think for Padres fans, Mackenzie Gore, former super prospect, kind of fell down all the prospect charts. Now he's got a three starts, 15.1 innings, 20 strikeouts and a 17.6. CRA. So, I mean, already what I believe was the strength of that team, Snell is rehabbing right now.
Starting point is 00:16:04 If Gore's got it, San Diego, they took care of business against the Reds, which are now, they're already a walkover team in this young season. Are we letting C.J. Abrams just, like, run it until Tatez gets back? Like, are we worried about how much he's struggling? like Peter and I kind of talked about it earlier on baseball today like when like in Seattle they're running through this problem with Kellnick and Rodriguez they're struggling like what's the leash you think for Abrams is he just there because Tatis isn't there or like does he
Starting point is 00:16:38 the chance he gets sent down we any Padres fans in the chat they want to let us know what they think yeah I'd do I'd divert to them or whatever the term is I don't No. Because the answer, the answer is probably along the lines of what, what does it look like? Does it look like he's overwhelmed or does he look like a player that's just kind of struggling at the plate? If the defense is there and everything else, but that's Padres fans, you let us know what you want going on with C.J. Abrams. Yeah, we have, um, we have the rosters getting trimmed down. When does that start again? I think they delayed it a little bit, right? Well, they delayed it. So like, you're going to, they're going to have to go down to 26 guys or whatever it is. I think 26 or 28 now. But the rule that you only need 13 pitchers, I believe they nixed that and they pushed that.
Starting point is 00:17:27 I heard this on radio or somewhere. No, I heard it on a game broadcast. I believe they were saying it, but I didn't see any article. So I hope it's true. Makes sense. They said teams were saying like, we still need more than 13 pitchers because our guys aren't built up and blah, blah, blah. So I believe they push that.
Starting point is 00:17:49 Damn pitchers. I'm looking at what Kim has been doing because he would be the logical guy to step in if they had to send Abrams down and he's doing well. Pro far off to a nice start for them. Go Padres go. I think we had one of the big ones in the NL this week.
Starting point is 00:18:10 Metz Cards. The New York Metropolitan's off to their hot start. They head to St. Louis. St. Louis, always with a model franchise. and Mets, they ponied up the first two games. Scherzor Bassett. They dropped the third, but the Mets train goes and we're fighting and buck and hit by pitch. Nostradamus podcast.
Starting point is 00:18:32 Go us. Go Mets. What do you do with this rotation? Like, this is, did we overlook how good this rotation could be? I know Jolly Olive was all over McGill, but I don't think any of us knew anything about him. You got him going bonkers. you got Basset as your three when DeGrom comes back. Scherzer's being Scherzer.
Starting point is 00:18:55 Like this is, what the heck, man? They're just good. I mean, you waited out. You never know. I mean, you know, Taiwan Walker was lights out in the first half last year. And in the second half, he was a different guy. I don't wish that upon anyone, but baseball happens. So it's a very, very, very good problem if DeGrom comes back.
Starting point is 00:19:18 and no one else has fallen off, and the Mets can continue to roll. And they're nasty. DeGrom, I don't know what the news actually means, but considerable healing of the stress reaction on his scapula. So, hey, get that guy healthy, stay on top of the east, keep winning series, and, yeah, if that guy can get involved, I mean, that's why, hey, Mets starting pitching,
Starting point is 00:19:44 first pick in the position unit draft by BPD. So. Nostradamus, Nostradamus. He was a big McGill guy. He loves McGill. McGill's a big McGill guy. He's huge.
Starting point is 00:19:56 I watched Jolly's videos, so, Big McGill guy. I mean, love that. Mets are second in batting average, second and on base percentage, third and starting pitcher, ERA.
Starting point is 00:20:08 That's a good formula. That's a really good formula. I think first in spirit. Yeah. I think the vibes are like incredibly high. I'm not. saying that in a poking way. I'm saying that like, Matt's fans are having a blast right now. Yeah. It's like they're in good times.
Starting point is 00:20:27 They're getting hit. Shersers is funny. Yeah. And well, Buck, Scherzer, they just brought in like, you know, on the other side, and I know we're on the AL, but the Yankees kind of had a reshaping of like thought with some of theirs guys. I don't think it's as big as the Mets did with Scherzer and Buck. Those are two guys that are like, hey, we're here to do this and do this or just fuck off. Like, has there ever been a player that's got a massive contract like that, that there's, for sure, it was never a concern. Like, you think he's going to let off the gas pedal?
Starting point is 00:21:04 Like, it was just, if he stays healthy, I mean, he's going to be the, I mean, leader, leader. He's like C-C. Yeah. Somebody like that, you know, those guys who just, I think I said on this show. Can you imagine like not running out of ground ball and having Matt Scherzer come back and look at you?
Starting point is 00:21:24 With those eyes? Scared the shit out of me. It is scary. Speaking of scary, let's talk about the brawl a little bit. I want to hear you guys take on it. Jack Flaherty did get fined. And I said, Jack,
Starting point is 00:21:38 what did you do, bro? Like, were you in there? Like, shanking people? But he's on the I. Yeah, you can't go on. I haven't watched yet because I'm going to make a breakdown of it. And I know that when I do that,
Starting point is 00:21:50 going to, like, slow it down and really watch it. So I know that if I casually, I mean, I watched it when it was live. We were in the office. But if I casually watch it, then I'm going to want to run to the laptop right away. And Jake had a busy day yesterday. So I haven't seen it. So I just saw that the stubby clap took down Alonzo. And I mean, unbelievable that there's, I mean, is he the strength and conditioning coach?
Starting point is 00:22:15 He has to be right. His name is stubby clap. I think he's the first base coach, isn't he? why does he look like that? A strength and conditioning coach wouldn't have a uniform. Why does that guy look like that? He's got a, I mean, if it goes by stubby clap, Jim. If he's not the strength and conditioning coach,
Starting point is 00:22:30 then he tells the strength and conditioning coach what to do. Jim, he's a five, eight Canadian that's been in baseball forever. Like, it's how you become stubby clap. There's two types of coaches, and we're getting a little off base here, but there's two types of coaches. You either get the coach that likes to drink beer and kill the spread or you got the coaches that have like maybe done that and are over it and they just flip the other way and they just work out every single day because they're
Starting point is 00:22:58 already at the yard so they just go and get workouts. It seems like that's kind of the guy he is. Well, he's shorted out. Alonzo. Hercut. Swag. It's awful. I didn't see it.
Starting point is 00:23:16 Picture simple, Jack. Come on. That's not even a stretch of the imagination. imagination. I got the same haircuts. I got to see it. Bieber, you got something for me, bro? Oh, man, that's good stuff right there.
Starting point is 00:23:35 I can't fight that harder. I'm an Alonzo swag guy. Ironically. Aronado runs hot. That's the kind of competitor he is when you put it in the pot with the Mets getting hit every game. A plus B equals C guy. Stubby clap still holds the record at Texas Tech for triples. Congratulations, Stubby Clap.
Starting point is 00:23:58 So he's Canadian and then went to... Probably holds the record for doubles but thrown out at third as well. A thousand percent. Just always aggressive. Yeah. 36 round draft pick Stubby Clap. Canada to Texas Tech.
Starting point is 00:24:12 Yeah. Yes. That is... I mean, Dallas, Braden and Stubby Clap being alma mater bros is exactly what you imagine. Listed 5.8. That's not real. Thanks Dallas, see if he's got the scouting report on Stubby Club. Let's move on.
Starting point is 00:24:32 Let's get out of Twisted Towers and get to the Dodgers and the D-backs. I think we can touch on this one pretty quick. The Bueller goes shut piece looks really good. Snakes, you know, grab the next two games. Not a lot of offense out of the Dodgers here. Yeah, well, good for the snakes pitching and the snake's bullpen for holding them. But, yeah, Bruce Star and a slider got got pretty. bad to run homer there and then the next one was a throwing error on to turner munsey
Starting point is 00:25:02 muncy moncy playing third yeah Peter moyland just sent us a picture of simple jacks what's that Peter moyland just send us a picture of simple jack oh thanks Pete or I think is that Pete alonzo it's not as bad as simple jack but it also just doesn't make sense as like this was on purpose Diamondbacks hit 106 as a team in this series and got two wins from the Dodgers. Was there just a bunch of airs and walks? Oh. The Monty Air was a big one.
Starting point is 00:25:41 And hey, these snakes pitched a little bit. Gallant six innings two hit. Yeah, we play for rings in the desert. Brewer swept the pirates. Yep. And they're off to their best start since like, Some, a long time. That got put out there.
Starting point is 00:26:06 A lot of people were panicking on the brewers. When you have this pitching stuff, there's no panic. You're going to win game. Saddamis has been really good. Cutch has been really good. Still waiting on Yelly, aren't we? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:20 A couple years. Yeah, need them to come through. Ashby fully stretched out now making like real starts. That's a pretty big development for the brewers. That's, I mean, like the rich getting richer. Mm-hmm. Willie Adamas, Colton Wong, strength up the middle. I love it.
Starting point is 00:26:38 And yeah, it's starting to become pirate sweep season. And Cole Tucker, COVID-I-L, just sent him in text. You all right, Cole? Yeah. All right, we got two other series here. We got like two minutes on the clock. The Braves and the Cubs. Braves win the first one, the Braves from the third one.
Starting point is 00:26:56 The big news is that Acuna came back. I went one for five with a single. Didn't have an extra base hit, and not any of his minor league starts. So kind of interested to see if the power comes back or if he's still getting used to it. But it's like a lot of fanfare for him coming back, which I don't know, I guess covering the Yankees for like the last five years.
Starting point is 00:27:17 Like seen a lot of guys come back from the I. I've never seen like shirts get sold. And like it. He was like a lot. He was out most of last year. It was a big injury. And then they win the World Series without him. And I get it.
Starting point is 00:27:31 It's exciting, but it was like a lot. I was like, hey, he might go back. I mean, I don't know. I'm just, I think if you've seen judge, Stan, a lot of guys come back from the IEL. I've never seen anyone act like it was like they did. It was weird. I guess it's sold shirts.
Starting point is 00:27:45 Missing the end of the year in the World Series run. Yeah, it makes sense. I mean, if the Yankees had done that and there was no judge, I think, I think that would have happened. But good for Ronnie to be back. Good for baseball to be back. Happy Braves fans are happy. And in a way, their season begins to start again.
Starting point is 00:28:01 Dansby hit a Homer. I know that was a conversation. And then we had the Contreras brothers. That was pretty cool. One double in his minor league games. This is like his first at bat and none since then. My bad. His numbers are really good.
Starting point is 00:28:15 Just no extra base sense. Wilson and William. They exchanged the lineup cards. A little emotional after the game. We love some baseball emotions. Max free drops dick always. Ian Hap. I got a question for you guys.
Starting point is 00:28:31 Yeah. I'm just kind of looking at where he's at in his career. Right now, he's 27 years old. He is a free agent. He has this year, R-Beligible. Next year, Arb eligible, then a free agent. This guy's going to make $100 million. Can't, should.
Starting point is 00:28:46 I'm going to fire. We need to fire him ASAP. You can't be that rich working here. Oh, I thought you were just talking John Boy Media. I wasn't even thinking baseball. 809 career OPS. You know what we talk about. You get in the 8s.
Starting point is 00:28:59 That's when things start happening. for you. So he'll be a free agent at 28 or 9, 29 year old season. He's going to get paid, man. Shout out Ian Hap. I still owe you a ball of the wine. Yeah, just focus on getting him the wine, dude. Fuck. I'm going to Italy, bro. He wants actually he wants a Bordeaux.
Starting point is 00:29:17 So I got to go to France. I'll make a pit stop in France for you, Ian. Jeez. Do it. Marlon sweep the gnats. Yeah. Marlon's still hanging in there, baby. Marlon's on a little bit of a heater. I love it. Fish with arms, baby. the Nats. I mean,
Starting point is 00:29:32 stink. Pablo Lopez. Yeah. Six shot. 0.39 ERA. Yep. Through four starts. And then they have a,
Starting point is 00:29:42 Nationals have the longest losing streak in MLB right now. I think eight in a row. And Joey Wendell, tough as nails, three run Homer. So just kind of upset. He's not in my day to day life anymore because I don't watch the NL as much as the AO. There's,
Starting point is 00:29:59 I like, I liked whenever I saw Joey Wendell on the field. I didn't realize it was going to miss Joey Wendell, but I do. Trev Pegg and his Twitter bio will always get me. There are eight teams right now in baseball with three plus game losing streaks. There are eight teams in baseball with three plus winning streaks going on. So, yeah, get hot or get cold. How many time?
Starting point is 00:30:23 That's what happens on a sweep week. We got to go to the AL. Okay. Go Marlins go. Go, Marlins go. Who's doing A-L? Jake. Talking to him.
Starting point is 00:30:35 Let's do it. What happened? We will start out. I was in the building for two of these games as the Yankees swept the Orioles. Rizzo. Oh! They're starting to like this guy in the Bronx, baby. How about a three home or night you might hear about him later?
Starting point is 00:30:58 The Yankees go on. They sweep the series. Good performance by Monty. Big Stanton starts to get it going. The Yankees, baby, six in a row. We're starting to have some fun. The first game was nuts. Severino had a no-hitter for a while.
Starting point is 00:31:14 The Orioles fought. Hey, Orioles, I know I'm bullying you a little bit, and I can't stop, and I'm sorry. Your team is better. This is better than a couple of the Orioles teams in the past few years. Still not good. Blue Jays, they take three out of four from,
Starting point is 00:31:30 York, Bastin, Red Sox, Berrios, Avaldi, the ones in game one, and the Blue Jays took that, six to two, although they both went seven innings pitch to earn runs. Avaldi with a quick yank, only 72 pitches, Bo Pichette with the Grand Slam in that one. The second game, we're in extras. Red Sox won a Waka start. Is he having an okay year? Might have to check in on that. And then the Youngbloods in the final game, Manoa Whitlock, might be hearing those.
Starting point is 00:32:00 names in the ALEs for a while. Manoa 7 shut my goodness. Vladdy sat game four and exited game three but he should be good to go tonight. Blue Jays keep it rolling. Speaking of how about them halos? Can you see my halo Beyonce? Love her and I love these angels as they sweep the guardians. Guardians remember when they were the hot topic because they won four straight? They're getting beat up. Angels 304-1. They finish with a 4-1. Otani starts in there.
Starting point is 00:32:36 Trev, he might talk about Taylor Ward at some point. He could talk about Brandon Marsh. You could talk about a lot of these guys on the halos, because we're hitting. Highest OPS in the AL, and they're pitching enough on the other side. They've won five in a row. Redetmer's air? White Sox.
Starting point is 00:32:56 What is you doing, baby? They lose. two of three to the Royals. They are struggling your AL Central. Boogity, boogity, boogity, six-oh royals. Get shut out like that. They won the middle game, but then they lose in the 10th, and they give up three of five, two, tenth inning loss.
Starting point is 00:33:18 That's a bad feeling. They took the lead on a pass ball. Are we demoralized? Outside of Andrew Vaughn and that big homer he hit, who could have seen that coming, that broke up their eight-game losing. Street. White Sox, figure it out. Lance Lynn, come back, dude. Right.
Starting point is 00:33:36 Rays, take two out of three from the Mariners. A couple organizations where their jerseys could blend together and be all the same kind of. Trev's guy Logan Gilbert helps the Mariners get the win in game one, but the raise, three, two, two, one. We've got two openers in this series. We're back to Ray's baseball kid. Tough for Fleming, seven runs all unearned in that first game. But, yeah, Ray's starting pitchers, ERA was under one, and the relievers ERA was under two. They pitched, man.
Starting point is 00:34:11 That's some Ray's baseball. Brett Phillips with the big hit in the final game. Astros take three out of four from the Rangers, and that's obvious. It's about to be go time for the Astros, I think. The Rangers won the first game of the series. Dunning, my guy I always thinks lefty, but he's righty. And after that, Astros roll, our guy Odo, with one of his best start of the season.
Starting point is 00:34:35 Hurlander, Javier, boogity, boogity, boogity, Kyle Tucker, he's starting to go in Yorden Alvarez. Yep, those two lefties that you don't think about enough on the Astros are really good. And speaking of good, the Minnesota twins. Treves twins, he played there. FYI for some of the fans new to the show. They win the first game five, four. Ryan in the short sleeve mocked turtleneck, fire me up, hot boy list, and then a little
Starting point is 00:35:05 Bailey over in the final game. Twins have won seven in a row and are atop the ALE Central. You killed it, baby. You killed it, Jakey boy. I'm all one. Jim, what are the standings looking like? The standings in the American League are the Yankees are in first place in the American League and the East. That's cool. Angels are in first place in the West. Twins are in first place in the Central. And just since I didn't do the National League,
Starting point is 00:35:41 the Mets are in first place in the East, Brewers are in first place in the Central, Giants first place in the West. We'll see where they end up. Uh-oh. Cole Tucker, cleared to go back today on my way to the field right now. Let's go.
Starting point is 00:35:57 Let's go. COVID. No chance with Cole Tucker Fuck out of here We gotta start We gotta start Minnesota right Okay The boys
Starting point is 00:36:09 Taking it to the tigers Sweeping them three The Minnesota Twins What's been the problem guys All along What have I kept telling you? Pitching Can't pitch
Starting point is 00:36:21 Boys can pitch now Take a look at the starting rotation I got to ask the question earlier today. Can they sustain these levels? And the answer is obviously no. They're not going to pitch this well all season long, but I don't think that they have to. Like this is, this is extraordinary. I think they could just be a little bit above average and still win a ton of ball games because the offense is going to be clicking. They have, they got like six or seven guys that I really like in that lineup. So if the pitching is even somewhat above average, I think
Starting point is 00:36:59 with the way the white socks have been bit by the injury bug like there's a it's a steel jake's term there's a world where these twinkies can be you know right around the top of this a. Ossentral man things can be changed I think Joe Ryan
Starting point is 00:37:16 I know the other there's been Bundy's been good Obers been good hell Archer's been good I think Joe Ryan has set the tone and they got him for a half a season of Nelson Cruz in the race. Rays don't do shit like that they gave up Joe Ryan
Starting point is 00:37:31 I think he's going to lead the twins I think he's if he's not their ace already I think he's going to be the ace do you think it would be awesome if the White Sox and the twins just reverse from last year it wouldn't because I picked the White Sox
Starting point is 00:37:53 to go to the World Series so I kind of need them to step it up a little bit I fully expect them to do that I don't think this is like a sub-500 club. I think this is a really, really talented baseball roster that just kind of needs to find its footing in the new season. You don't think the White Sox could have Bobby Valentin, you know, middle 2010's Red Sox collapsing them?
Starting point is 00:38:17 I mean, they do have Tony the Roos at the helm, so anything's possible with him as your manager. I think the injuries are the biggest thing. You know, I think if they have people on the field, no, that's not possible. But, you know, they've got some guys hurt. also seems like lack of the ability of the field is hurting.
Starting point is 00:38:32 Yeah, that's been really tough. And I don't expect that to continue at the rate it has either. So praise the twins. I know the White Sox's been tough, but I think they'll be back. But twins, man, pitching staff has been,
Starting point is 00:38:46 I mean, that's maybe one of the bigger surprises of the season so far. Joe Ryan, look pretty good. And he's hot. Kepler is going for them. That helps. I mean, Correa hasn't gotten it going, Polanco.
Starting point is 00:39:01 So, I mean, what would be the best case for baseball and the A. Central is that the twins are good. The White Sox find it, and there's actually, like, a race between two teams in the A.L. Central. That's kind of what the Central has needed. So, Tigers, sorry, you were on the receiving end of it. And Royals, I guess good for you guys. Benny's doing some stuff. Trev says he's getting ready for the Yanks, but I don't know.
Starting point is 00:39:27 That's what I've been hearing. Okay. What do you mean he's getting ready for the Yanks? No, I saw somebody, one of those like hoodie Yankee people or something was like, hey, Ben Attendee looks good. Like he should be a Yankee. That's all. He crushes the Yanks at Yankee Stadium.
Starting point is 00:39:49 So I thought then they're playing. Thought it was something like that. Jake, what else drew? Let's go back to the top. Let's do our Yankees. Went to a couple of these games. I compliment to Baltimore. I mean, there's still obviously not a ton of talent on the field,
Starting point is 00:40:06 although Zimmerman, I guess that's a name you want to circle if you're a baseball fan. Rizzo with the three homer night, a couple porch jobs, both teams do get to use it. That's one of the misnomer's out there on the internet. But Yankees are having fun. The three of us were at the game yesterday, and the Yankees' little comeback and blew it out. Orioles with five errors, that'll bite you in a game. that can tend to bite you, but there's good juice around these yanks.
Starting point is 00:40:37 Yeah, you got to sweep the Orioles, the same as the Reds and all that. Like, you can win the series and that's expected. You can never expect a sweep because it's hard to sweep in baseball. I can tell you all the stats on that. I look them up once a year and sweeps are much more rare than you think, or they're hard to do. But if you want to win the East, you got to sweep the Orioles. It's basically the rules.
Starting point is 00:40:59 And they fucked up last time they played them. Good job. Orioles got some talent. They got guys that can put together at bats and they can run and stuff. They just kind of play like nothing matters and then and then that bites them. I have a request. It's a Yankees request. I feel like you guys could probably sign off on this or shut it down.
Starting point is 00:41:21 You tell me. Michael King, I want his nickname to be King Mikey. No? This goes by Kinger. All right. Well, I like King Mikey.
Starting point is 00:41:33 Or my king. My king. His name is my king. How about King Mikey? Why are you stuck on the Mikey? He's kind of not a Mikey. He's not a Mikey, yeah. All right.
Starting point is 00:41:46 Fine, I tried. I tried to give you a nickname, bro. He's got shut it down. He's one of the Yankees is friendly with. He's an awesome dude. So ask him if he likes it. Okay. I'm going to go.
Starting point is 00:41:55 Okay, we'll ask him, but we won't. Blue Jay's Red Sox is a fun series. Yeah. It's a four gamer. Blue Jays take three out of four. Sox just are not hitting at all. I'm super interested. Can the Red Sox fan tell me why they pulled Avaldi last time I was watching Red Sox series. They were not going to their pen. They were like, that was like the last thing they wanted to do. Avaldi's at sevennings pitch to run, only 72
Starting point is 00:42:17 pitches. And he's already thrown a game with 90 this season, I believe. So I don't have the answer. I'm asking it in a genuine way. Did he have like bases juiced or was he just below down or tiring it. They just like the matchup afterwards. Kind of just interested. Cora. Yeah, chat. Help us out there. Cora. Blue Jays are off to the start that this team said they were ready for and have been ready for. Man, Espinall, again, probably not the name you jump to, but he's playing really good defense, and he's slapping the ball around a little bit for them. He's second in war on that team currently.
Starting point is 00:42:59 And dude, Manoa, man, that dude, I think Yankee fans were like, hey, maybe he's a Yankee killer. I think he's just a killer. I think he's just a full-blown killer. He's a Lance Lynn's son. Lance Lynn with other pitches. Plays angry. Yeah. Well, Lance Lynn, part of his charm is he just calls everything a fastball.
Starting point is 00:43:24 That's true. It's like one of pitching ninjas jokes is like, here's Lanslider. Oh, sorry. I mean, cut fastball. Yeah. Yeah. What does what does pitchcom say to him? Oh.
Starting point is 00:43:37 You know that one fastball you like? You know the other one? Like, it's interesting. I hate pitchcom. Let that be known. Put that on the record. I hate pitchcom.
Starting point is 00:43:46 I like the idea, but I just don't know why that they have voices talking to them. Like it is like how last, like last year when they started checking the pitchers for substance and they were checking their belt and where they may hide the substance. And then this year they're like, we're just going to check the fingertips. because if they're using it, that's going to be sticky.
Starting point is 00:44:03 And we're all like, yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I'd be like next year they're going to be like, pitchcoms, we're just going to use buzzers or beeps. And then the pitcher will count the beeps or feel the buzzes. And people were like, yeah, that's easier than listening to words in a packed stadium. You know, this is what I'm thinking. Tell me if I'm just like crazy right now. Chat, feel free to weigh in on this as well.
Starting point is 00:44:30 Like, I've seen freaking. spy movies before. You guys ever seen a spy movie? I've seen some. A couple. Like, I'm pretty sure there's technology that, like, you can get on the wavelength of pitchcom and,
Starting point is 00:44:44 like, right? Oh, yeah, but once a team does that. You're 50 feet away from someone. You just, like,
Starting point is 00:44:49 point a little thing and you can hear everything. You probably don't have to point the little thing anymore. Like, I've accidentally, I've accidentally connected to a lot of Bluetooth speakers I didn't want to connect to. I mean, there's something there. No, that's what I keep saying.
Starting point is 00:45:04 I think the third iteration of Pitchcom, I'm going to be like, oh, this works. I think we're going to look back at this one kind of silly. Pitchers can't look at fingers. Like, you can't, what is going? Ada boy. Red Sox figured out, they're going to Baltimore for three. Interested in that.
Starting point is 00:45:21 So they're fine. That could be a get right series or peskios. I want Red Soxs fans to answer this question because I mentioned this earlier, today too my good friend will middlebrooks yeah he thinks that the red sox offense has just been really unlucky they barrel a ton of balls and the big outburst is coming does that match the eye test for my my red sox fans in the chat or are they just hitting into the shift a lot because babb is a lie sometimes and i just know the the red six red six the red socks people i fall online have been a sad puppy
Starting point is 00:45:56 dogs for for most of the season so uh wonder what's going on their vibes wise Speaking of the good vibes, my halos. Hey, this is big. Last year, the Angels beat teams that were, last year the Angels won series against teams that were worse than them. They lost series of teams that were better than them. They're supposed to win this series against the Guardians, but the Guardians were playing decent ball.
Starting point is 00:46:21 So a four-game sweep is always impressive. To four-game sweep a team that I think the Angels are better than the Guardians, but the Guardians also have pitch. and had fight. So I, this is like, as a team, as a unit, I'm like, this is a good one for the Angels. I've got a couple shocking stats. My season's been good, but. Mike Trout leads, leads the AL in OPS, on base and slugging, which he's done multiple
Starting point is 00:46:52 times in the past. He's still unreal. Taylor Ward, you might hear about him later. He's going Brandon Marsh. Jared Walsh, our guy, and Rendon still haven't gone going. But the offense is full tilt. And dude, like, how about Michael Lorenzen putting together a couple starts? Sandoval hasn't given up an Ernie yet.
Starting point is 00:47:14 And that bullpen, and that's where I half won you guys over in my angels love this year. Iglesias is filthy. I love him. He's like one of my, if not my favorite relief pitcher to watch. Aaron Loop found unicorn blood, and I have no idea how he's doing it, but he's disgusting. Tepera, and hey, Oliver Ortega,
Starting point is 00:47:38 not in my book, but off to a great start this season. So they've got a formula back there, which is really nice. Might hear more about Taylor Ward a little later. To answer your question from earlier in the show, Jake, you wanted to know how Michael Waka is doing. How about four starts with a 177? Waka, Waka.
Starting point is 00:48:00 Doesn't seem like pitching is the Red Sox problem. I know we just went over them, but I'm just going over the stats here. Go Angels. They're exciting. I want them to be good. I want them to be in the playoffs. I will be at the stadium with C. Rose.
Starting point is 00:48:12 I will be hanging out with Shohei Otani. Probably not. I'll try. We'll see. Excited, man. Trout also is like one of, like leading in some sprint speed category. And I was like, God, man. Still just.
Starting point is 00:48:25 Yeah, he's faster, running faster now than he's ever been clocked out in his career. I know. I was like, what the fuck, man? That's crazy. All right, we got to keep it moving. We talked about the White Sox. The split end was the Royals won two. Of those games, they won the third game in extras.
Starting point is 00:48:43 And Ray's Mariners? Yeah, we got to talk about that one a little bit. Two corners of the U.S. Basing off. Corners of the U.S., again, in my head, their uniforms can kind of blend together. Logan Gilbert that I think Trev's trying to take as his guy, but he's kind of been my guy.
Starting point is 00:49:01 He's been lights out early on this season. And then, yeah, I mean, raise Mariners fans. You guys are always loud. I'm going to invite you to be loud. Did you get raised? Because it looks like you lost two one-run games with a lot of bullpen action. A Keirmeyer 2-run, home run.
Starting point is 00:49:21 You got raised. How did it feel? Brett Phillips had the go-ahead RBI in the third game. Like, they got raised. Yankee fans, we do this about, five times a year you get raised it sucks yeah i mean gonzalez got hurt in that game too right and uh the second game yes took a liner off the wrist i mean that sucks that's a bullpen day that you didn't plan for so tough to win those games
Starting point is 00:49:48 two one run games it's like somewhat of a win i asked the question of uh peter this morning who has a better chance of winning the division the mariners or the race mariner's I think so too. That's what I said. I don't know. Okay. I think it's Mariners just because of the other competition. I know the angels have looked pretty good,
Starting point is 00:50:17 and we still have the Astros. We haven't hit their stride just yet, but something about the Js and the Yankees, I'm just giving a ton of credit to those two teams. I don't know. I really like the Yankees this year. I don't know if that's good or bad for you guys. They wait until after the Blue Jays and the Yankees
Starting point is 00:50:33 play each other because they've both had easy schedules. of right now. I think the Blue Jays have had actually not. No, the Blue Jays haven't had an easy schedule. Yankees have had, I'm very happy that the Yankees have swept two in a row and I hope they sweep the royals. But even then, they've had one of the easier schedules
Starting point is 00:50:49 of a division winner in the league right now. So I'm waiting for that Blue Jays series to see what, what's going on with the Yankees. If it's like real, so I said, if they, if they split with Toronto, then I think I'm going to be like, all right, we got something. Toronto wins three or four.
Starting point is 00:51:09 I'll be like, all right. I keep going. Mariners fans, what do you think about who the O'Dar Rodriguez is in Kelnick? Are we just letting these guys trial by fire? We're just leaving them in the show or are we thinking about sending them down, getting some more seasoning in AAA
Starting point is 00:51:25 because they are off to rough starts. Kelnick, you know, now again. I mean, that's, you kind of want, as long as they're getting at bats, I think it's okay, but you can't have a hole in your bottom of your lineup for two guys. You just can't keep them there. If you're the Mariners, you know how important runs are. You need all the offense you can get.
Starting point is 00:51:49 Curious to see what happens with these guys. Verlander shoved. Oda Rizzy shoved. Framber shoved. And Martine Perez is actually off to a really nice start this season. Could become like an interesting trade deadline guy. In a year of a cutter, he's a guy that. can throw a really nice one.
Starting point is 00:52:07 So that might be something to circle this season. The numbers really like him so far this year. Take us to the interleague, Treve? People have been answering my question there. Julio looks good. I know he's been a victim of some bad called strikes. He has hitting 300 over his last seven, so he's getting it going.
Starting point is 00:52:27 But a lot of people in the chat saying Kellnick down when Lewis is ready to go. That's an interesting turn of events. for the Mariners. Keep an eye on that. Bang. Trevor, what happened in the... Did we talk about the Astros and Rangers at all? I talked about their starting pitching.
Starting point is 00:52:49 I talked about Martin Perez. I was just doing that. You were reading the chat a little bit. And that's fine. Okay. That's fine. We got it. It's fine.
Starting point is 00:52:59 It's bump the music. It's not going to be a long recap for me today. It's the Bay C. The A's. Take the Bay Bridge over to San Francisco to play the Giants. It's a two-game set. James, your favorite. Giants win the first game, 8 to 2.
Starting point is 00:53:24 A's win the next game, 1-0-0. So it's a split series. It's almost like this didn't even happen. Rodon goes six innings pitch with one-and-run in the first game. And the second game for the A's Blackburn, five shutout innings and five relievers. combined for another four shutout hitless innings. So there was no offense really
Starting point is 00:53:47 for the Giants in that game at all. We get the splits. Peterson got hurt. That's tough. Groin, he might be on the I.L. For quite some time, and that's what happened in the I.O. What a game. Jed Pinder, lead off Homer, by the way, our guy. Is he a friend of the pod?
Starting point is 00:54:10 Yeah, maybe, but that's a weird, That's a fun game. One nothing after the first batter of the game. And then that's the final score. That's it. June is for the Giants. He went five shuddy in relief. Twice.
Starting point is 00:54:28 That's what it says on our notes. He's done two appearances, both five innings shut out. Is that real? That's real. Damn. That's nice. Tough for Jock.
Starting point is 00:54:39 This is a nothing series. What are we doing here, guys? Yeah. Jock off to a good start this year. sucks sucks about the grind does all right second half of the show you got some awards to give out some standouts some things to talk about jake is it is it brought to you the people by anyone we're looking at the players that were the tops this week you know what i'm saying i hear you okay tops trev you're a big tops guy uh and by the way celebrate the start of the 22 MLB season with the

Starting point is 00:55:49 anniversary motion set. Go to ToppsNFTs. com for more info. Click around a little bit. See what you like. See what you're into.
Starting point is 00:55:59 That's Topps NFTS.com for more info. Thanks, Topps. Thank you to the tops. Topps. Stand out performances. Standout performance.
Starting point is 00:56:17 Mine was an easy one, because Jake and I were talking about game scores a couple episodes ago. Because I've never looked at it at all, but Gialito dropped that. Kershaw was going for like the best game score. Bill James, do you know what game score is, Trev? Do you ever look at that? I don't ever look at that.
Starting point is 00:56:34 I've heard it reference before, but no. It's like Bill James's version is you start with 50 points. You get a point for every out you record. You get two points for every inning after the fourth inning pitched. You get a point for strikeout. out you get minus points for hits and minus four points for earned runs and then there's a score at the end. I don't like his version.
Starting point is 00:56:59 So I created my own version. Yeah. Tweet it out if anyone's smart wants to build this and let me know who's the best so far. And our guy, uh, Glaber metrics, I think is his name. He does a lot of stats for us, uh, glaber metric. Jay was doing back out of bat stats and other stuff as well. Made a script, made a Python script, and Walter Bueller start this week is the best J score.
Starting point is 00:57:27 Nine innings pitch, zero earned runs, 10Ks, three hits, one hit by pitch. For a score on my scale, 86 points. Best of the season so far. He was filthy. I watched some of this change up working, slider working, fastball work. and had them all. I tell people this all the time here. A guy like Walker Bueller has more than two pitches working, you're done. You get a night like tonight or a night like he had.
Starting point is 00:58:00 Nine shoddy, 10Ks. Awesome. I think it's his first complete game shutout of his career. Yes. Which is a little of his career. Like surprising to me because he's been, you know, Cy Young contender, stud for a couple years now. I mean, he probably doesn't have a ton of complete games to his.
Starting point is 00:58:19 name. I have to imagine. I bet he's probably got four or five. I know. I guess I can just not part of it. Yeah. It makes sense. But yeah, he is my easily my standout performer. Stand out perform it. Like it. Walker Beeler. Walker. Jake. He has three complete games in his career. Good for him. Great standout, Jim. Wait, before you go. Yeah. This is a weird stat right here. Yes. 2019, that's a full season, people. This ain't 2020 ball.
Starting point is 00:58:58 His two complete games in 2019 led the big leagues. Yeah. Isn't that's crazy? I'm hoping he was tied with a couple other guys and also. I'm sure he was tied, but nobody had three complete games. Just not part of baseball anymore, man. Is not. Jake, who you got?
Starting point is 00:59:22 I'll tell you what will always be a part of baseball. How about a sharp-looking dude playing first base with a nice little lefty swing, finding the short porch in the Bronx. I am giving it to Tony Meatball's Anthony Rizzo. He actually, he played in the National League for a little bit. I don't know if people know that. But now he's on the Yankees playing first base.
Starting point is 00:59:49 And Trev, we, uh, obviously we're enjoying it. You know, he's leading in home runs. He's off to an incredible start. I've had a couple emotional tweets, and as has Jim conversationally on talking Yanks. He does so much of the game so well, and it's one of those things when you watch him every day,
Starting point is 01:00:14 you earn and you appreciate so much more that I understand why Cubs guys love this dude so much, even outside of. of obviously breaking the curse and all of that. He finds the porch the shortest three home runs, three home run day ever recorded during the Statcast era, as he had two shorties. The last one was a comedy show, and if you're a Yankee hater, you got your jab in on it.
Starting point is 01:00:41 Guess what? Don't care. Your team, you guys can aim for that porch too. It has hurt us a lot over the years. It has helped us a lot over the years. Anthony Rizzo has been locked into the three-hole behind Big Aaron Judge between him and Stanton. He had a nice hit and run hit. Man, he has been a breath of fresh air.
Starting point is 01:01:02 The base running has been good. He is perfect. And Trev, you know, we'll see what it looks like in a couple years. I think he signed for 3 for 51. Freddie signed for 6 years, 7 years, whatever it was. They're a month apart. any Rizzo's a month older. So value-wise, if Riz puts it up for a couple years,
Starting point is 01:01:26 it could be an incredible contract for the Yanks. He's been awesome. He's been awesome. I don't think they gave him. I'm looking at his contract around now. My baseball reference says one year 16-mill with a player option in 23. Riz, two years with an opt-out, says BPD. Yeah, the opt-out is the second year.
Starting point is 01:01:50 Okay. You know what I love about Rizzo? And I did watch those homers. And yeah, they're actually really funny. Those were wall scrapers. But like you said, bro, both teams play at the park. When you trade for a guy like Anthony Rizzo, at his age, he was 31 when he came over to New York. You just kind of hope you don't expect him to be like, you know, his prime self.
Starting point is 01:02:12 Right. But if you look at his stats right now in Chicago over 10 years, OPS 861, I know he's benefited a lot from this season. season because he's gone off. But in his time with the Yankees, now 68 games, OPS, 862. So he's been consistent. They got the guy who I guess they thought they were going to get. And you're right. He's done everything the right way.
Starting point is 01:02:34 He seems like it just works. It just works in New York. It just works for the team, like the energies, the right. It just, it all fits. So I'm happy. I'm happy that you guys are happy. I'm happy that he's happy. The Italians are just celebrating.
Starting point is 01:02:50 I love a good Italian meal. I had spaghetti lobster last night. Lobster spaghetti. That'd be nice. Happer texted us and he was like, someone, someone reach out to Elias to see if that's the shortest. And then they texted it.
Starting point is 01:03:08 They tweeted it out like the next minute. Jake pulled it. It's pretty funny. It's the shortest Homer at Yankee Stadium or just like ever. Shortest, shortest total distance three run Homer night in history of Satcast. I love that.
Starting point is 01:03:22 Because all of them were wall scrapers. But he's aiming for it. Like he's utilizing it. Who's your standout, Treb? Well, we've been teasing it and teasing it and teasing it. And this guy had a couple different games that I could have picked for.
Starting point is 01:03:42 But my guy, Taylor Ward on Wednesday, the third game, went three for four, had the Grand Slam. He also had a triple and a double. So he fell one measly base hit. away from a cycle. He did get a walk. So it's like a, you know, he wasn't a Roman ready cycle. It was before he took his Roman for the cycle. That's what I'm going to say. So interesting about Taylor Ward. I mean, you look at his stats. He's just, it's bananas. 1.271 OPS right now.
Starting point is 01:04:12 He's getting on base over 50% of the time. And I wanted to know like what kind of adjustments has this guy made. I mean, he's 28 years old. You know, he hasn't had a ton of success. in the big leagues coming into, coming into this year, Joe Madden before the season, this is a true story. Joe Madden, when asked about Taylor Ward,
Starting point is 01:04:33 said his ceiling is something of a fourth outfielder. He said that to a reporter. Taylor Ward wasn't happy about that. Okay? I guess something to change with him as, you know,
Starting point is 01:04:46 mentally he couldn't get right in the big league. So he took a book that a lot of, I know a lot of people person that read this book, a mind gym or like the mind gym. I have it sitting in my office. I've read it before. It really is a book that makes you kind of put things into perspective and calm down and kind of like just like live in the moment. And it's a book to find peace. And it seems like that's what he's been doing. You know, his abats have been really good. His takes have been really good.
Starting point is 01:05:16 In an article I read, there was even Michael Lorenzen referencing him in spring training, just how good of the takes, how good as takes are. And we talk about that here. You can tell how someone is feeling in the box. Maybe the number one indicator of how someone's feeling in the box is how they take close pitches or, you know, how they lay off sliders in like a tough slider. Guys locked in. Taking the right pitches, right attitude.
Starting point is 01:05:44 He's getting his opportunity now and Madden now. Sorry, bro. You got blown up. You called your guy a fourth outfielder. now he's your best hitter and you got Mike Trout on your team. Shout out to other word. League average chase percentage at balls out of the zone is 28.3% and his so far this season is 18%.
Starting point is 01:06:05 So he's really controlling the zone as they say. Love that man. Good for him. Yeah. Meanwhile, his swing is, you know, swing at in the zone percentage of 63 and league average. average of 66. So it's, you know, there's, uh, Aaron Hicks is a guy who's low on, he just doesn't swing both sides. So it's like great. He controls his own, but he also doesn't attack
Starting point is 01:06:31 the zone. This guy, so he's kind of attacking his own on league average, but not swinging, not chasing. Really, really impressive rate. So that's, yeah, he talks about just really, really, uh, there's some quotes from him. He said, you know, I don't think about accounts. I don't thinking about who's on base or the pitcher. He's like, I have my zone, and that's all I focus on is seeing the ball in the zone and crushing it. And that's what he's been doing. And you know what we love? We love a king that'll hop behind the dish if you need to. We hop behind last year for two innings. What? Yeah. Yeah. So I'm all in. Taylor Ward's my guy. All in on you, bro. I hope this reaches you, okay? Just a little love for you.
Starting point is 01:07:17 Love, love. So it's, it's, it's, it's, Tyler Wade. Taylor Ward. Nine hole to Taylor Ward, one hole. Kind of love that. I do kind of love that as well. All right.
Starting point is 01:07:32 It's going to a slump watch. All right. Last week on Slump Watch, we put Brandon Lough, Mitch Garver, Eddie Escobar, Nelson Cruz, and Brian Reynolds.
Starting point is 01:07:49 Let's see who we're clapping for and who is sticking around. One easy one. is Mitch Garver. Trev got him on there. His old friend. He goes four for 12 with a homer. Love it. He's off. Eddie Escobar. He went four for 11 with a double, a walk. He's off. My guy. Out. Brian Reynolds went two for eight with five strikeouts. That's not off. It's not collapse. They were just singles, right? Yeah, so.
Starting point is 01:08:27 I think he missed a couple games with COVID stuff. I think we should let him come back and earn his way off. Okay, we'll keep him around. B. Lau, he went two for 13 with 6Ks, so he would stay. And Nelson Cruz won for 10 with an RBI. So those guys, they'll stay for now. Let's see if any of these new potential ads knock them off. Fran Mulraeus had a tough go against the halos.
Starting point is 01:08:55 O for 14 with 10 Ks. Jesus Christ. Put him on. Put him on. Yeah. That's tough. He's on. All right.
Starting point is 01:09:06 Then we got Salvi Perez 0413 with 8Ks. Cody Bellinger, O for 11 with 3Ks. Tel Marteo for 10 with 2Ks. And Darren Ruff. Fuck, guys.
Starting point is 01:09:21 These are all real bad weeks for these guys. So. I'm going to let my bias kick in. We can't put Salvi on there because they're about to play the Yanks, so I just can't. It's fair. I can't spiritually do that. It's our fucking show.
Starting point is 01:09:35 I think Belly, because we want Belly to remain good, right? Yeah, I want Belly to do good. It's MVP winner. No offense to Darren Ruff, but, you know, the Giants are the Giants. You've always hated him. No. You hate them. No, they just get to do their platoon stuff, so, like, he'll end up being fine,
Starting point is 01:09:53 and the Giants are fine. I don't think the pirates are trading Reynolds Okay And I don't So I think I I don't care about him You just don't care about Brian Reynolds Until he's in a year
Starting point is 01:10:10 Will he'll be traded I mean I love Catea and Brian Reynolds So if you want to put Catell in there instead I'm fine with that Yeah Okay done So it's B. Low Cobell, Nell Cruz
Starting point is 01:10:24 K-M-K-M-R-T and Fran Ray. Fun names. That's Slump Watch. Dirt Nasty's on Fuego. That means I'm on fire, baby, like Waco. Well, the first two names here you're going to be familiar with. It's Anthony Rizzo and Taylor Ward, both three Homer Days on fire. Eric Hosmer, he had a two-homer series, six for nine.
Starting point is 01:10:54 Trev talked about him. Kyle Tucker. Astros. He went six for 13 with two homers. Mike Trout. He gets a lot of attention. Five RBIs, four walks, three doubles, a triple and a home run. That's Mike Trout. Willie Adamas, five for 17 with three homers, eight RBIs. Bryce Harper. Do you not have a single? He had to have a single. So he hit for the cycle. That's what I thought he did. 500 batting average seven for 14 Aaron judge went six for 14 he had two homers and manny machado nine for 14 two doubles two rb i's and a walk those players are on fire
Starting point is 01:11:38 hmm you could go to dinner with one of those guys who do you go to dinner with quick oh judge yeah that's a tough one I'm asking I'd ask him questions about the Yankees If he's not on there, because clearly that's a different answer, it would be... If I'm doing a- Harper. If I'm doing a party dinner, like a boys dinner, Willie Thomas.
Starting point is 01:12:06 Just you and him. It's just you and say, Hosmer. I think me and Hosmer, I think me and Hosmer just rehash it up, just like back in 2016, you know what I'm saying? I think I knew that whole question was leading up to you saying, you love Hosmer. And I used to play. okay we need i have a we need to have kelsey say awards in her like voice she said she was going to well she's been busy part in well the rock stink now so she's back wait did the rock's thinking
Starting point is 01:12:46 coincide with her going on her badgerette party wow it's a good question development it's a really good question it's a really good question shout out to her beautiful fiancee Because it's still. James? Uh, my award goes to, where my award is the, um, the, uh,
Starting point is 01:13:23 not here for your bullshit award. Hmm. Not here for your bullshit. Not here for your bullshit award. Or maybe like the, uh, Jake Ball Award. What's the,
Starting point is 01:13:41 award's name. Jake Ball Award. Jake Ball Award. Jake. Yeah. Jake Ball. That one word. Yeah. It's like baseball, but instead of the word base, I'm saying Jake. Okay. Jake Ball Award. You can understand my excitement. Yep. Do you have any guesses? No. Is that to do with the word base? The kids use that word too. I don't know what that means. No. No, it has to do with the word walk. Okay. Jake wanted walks out of baseball. There's one guy right now that is playing Jakeball. His name's Kevin Gossman. You heard of him? Sure have. 95 batters faced this season. Zero walks. He's your guy.
Starting point is 01:14:39 What's the strikeout out? Because we had Corbyn Burns do this last year. Oh, strikeouts. He's just leading the league with 31. Whoops. So Corbyn got to what, 54 last year? I forget what it was. Okay, I like this. If this is going to be a thing every year where we get a pitcher just out to a gangbuster start, not walking people, that is an infielder's wet dream.
Starting point is 01:15:04 Never had one, but I know what they are. No walks, baby. Feed it to me. You know how many batters have gotten to a three ball count on him? How many at bats have out of the 95 batters faced? how many at bats have gotten to a three ball account, three ball count. If you had to just,
Starting point is 01:15:23 what number do you think would impress you? It's not zero. Like five, it would be impressive. On the dot, Trev, five played appearances have gone to three balls. One, your dude, Brad Miller,
Starting point is 01:15:41 backyard Brad. Had him three, oh. What? Called strike, called strike line out. I was going to say Brad's a, a free swinger, but he two called strikes, huh? Yep.
Starting point is 01:15:55 Marcus Simeon. Marcus Simeon 3.1 called strike, then swinging strike. And then Donaldson, 3-2, called out on strikes. Christian Vasquez, 3-2 strikes out swinging. Bogart's 3-2 singles. That's as close as he's come. 95 batters faced, five had three balls. my kind of baseball.
Starting point is 01:16:24 Jim, it gets even better. Like that. You know, his whip is still really good. 1.014. ERA is good. He's actually leads the American League and hits giving up. So Kevin Gossman is just action.
Starting point is 01:16:39 Yeah. Just pure action. Yeah. They got good defense over there. Let him hit. I'm throwing it over the dish. Let's see what happens. I love it. about good award james what was the award jake ball nice i'll take credit for kevin gossman chat was going
Starting point is 01:17:02 crazy when do they talk about gothman when they're they're talking about gothman guys a whole show yeah things planned out we'll talk about fraser's the trade for him next time yeah might have to be a chatless show for me j p crawford you can do that i do that never do major stuff maybe next step but yeah i love the chat but this chat's turned into just a complain fest like it's an hour long of complaining that's when i put whenever i ask something of the chat they deliver so i know they do help out a lot with insight you got an award jake i sure do i sure do i'm giving out the early birthday award who the early birthday um you know i'm actually the opposite of this. You guys know whenever I tell any of my bad stories. I was one of the youngest
Starting point is 01:17:52 kids in the grades growing up. You know, with the October birthday, there was actually kids in the grade below me that were older. That always drove me nuts during high school sports because I was like, well, if I was in that grade, I'd be really good at sports. Our guy, Willie Adamas, he's been mentioned a couple times his show. He had a big week. He's an absolute stud. I just said, I'd love to have a dinner with the gentleman. Jimmy, his OPS right now is 719, which you're saying, okay, I don't know. Like Willie Adomis, when he went over to Milwaukee last year, he's actually a stud. He's the only teammate in the sevens right now.
Starting point is 01:18:36 The Milwaukee Brewers off to a really good start, leading the NL Central. Willie Adomis has a 719 OPS. it is the best on the team. Second best is Rowdy Telez at 695, Narvaeus 682, McCutcheon 656, Renfro 617, Yelly's in the fives.
Starting point is 01:18:59 Willie Adamas, I've turned seven, I'm in the sevens. I need someone else to join me. I need some help, fellas. Somebody else have your birthday and turn seven because, Jesus, man. We got a hit, dude. And it's actually probably good news for the brewers
Starting point is 01:19:17 because they've been winning it anyways because they're the damn brew crew. It's worse than I thought it was. It's bad. I knew the offense turned on. Cutsch has slowed down too. I thought he was still like, you know, doing his thing a little bit.
Starting point is 01:19:32 I saw him hit a lead off Homer. Wow. It actually does make me feel good as, you know, a guy that picked the Brewers to win it all this year. I picked because of the pitching staff. I needed a Yelly. to have a bounce back here hasn't happened just yet. But they got to do something.
Starting point is 01:19:52 This is not sustainable, bro, obviously. And we saw the Mariners kind of go through something like this last year, but it just wasn't enough. Well, that's the funny part. I think for their pitching, it's half attainable. But if they start hitting, they could start going nut job on this season. I haven't hit at all.
Starting point is 01:20:12 Do I need to, like, make a pit stop in Milwaukee game? in the cage? Yep. I'll do it. I'm peak performance coach right now. I mean, I got my guys swinging hot sticks. Oh. Hot sticks.
Starting point is 01:20:25 I'll get in there. They even been facing good pitching. Yeah. As, you know, they're a pretty easy strength of schedule team as well. They've played, they've played the pirates six times already, six and oh. Phillies, there's some good pitching there, but St. Louis. Then they got Baltimore and Chicago. So, yeah, I mean, we got to go. I just looked up runs per game, given up.
Starting point is 01:21:01 League average four. Guess who, I mean, I'm just going to tell you, San Francisco Giants and the Dodgers. Giants are averaging 2.47 runs per game and the Dodgers 2.56. They're the only ones in the twos. Everyone else is above that. That's fucking crazy, dude. Gross. Someone else turned seven. What's, uh,
Starting point is 01:21:24 Trev, you have, you have an award? Yeah, this one's, it's a sentimental award. It's called the Farewell J.J. Award, okay? Except no one calls this guy JJ. It's John Jay. My guy announced his retirement from the game yesterday. And, um,
Starting point is 01:21:40 the reason I don't do this for people, but John Jay is a special dude to me. one of the guys who, you know, I got to know playing baseball through Braun. He's a Miami guy. He is the Miami guy. All these guys that come out of Miami, John Jay is like the OG kind of guy. Cardinals fans know him very well. He started his career there, won the World Series in 2011.
Starting point is 01:22:04 And then it's just kind of bounced around. He's with your snakes for a few different years. We have a stint with the Padres, the Cubs, the Royals, the White Sox. and most recently the angels. But, you know, this guy grinded and grinded. And he was always so professional. I enjoyed following him and how he, like, established himself. And he was one of the guys that was always talking about, you know, business also with baseball.
Starting point is 01:22:32 Like, he was always thinking ahead to the future while he was getting his 10 years in. And really kind of like, I don't know about inspiration is the right word for me, but a guy that I looked to to kind of almost like model, you know, my attitude after, you know, how I viewed the game and after baseball. So he put out his farewell retirement thing yesterday. And I just thought, hey, man, I want to shine a little bit of light of my guy, John Jay, and thank him for, you know, providing a great example for me. How about that?
Starting point is 01:23:04 So shout out John Jay. Congrats. As soon as me and baby James fired Jake. I'll hire you here. Baby James can also go by JJ if you want. Perfect. That is great guy. Yeah, we're going to have to get him together.
Starting point is 01:23:23 Everyone get together. Have a good time. And you go to Miami. He dialed in. Nice little career, man. 283, 348 career. A little batting average on base. Okay, John Jay.
Starting point is 01:23:36 He's one of those guys that like, anybody that you ask that's played with him. Oh, love John. he's a skater like hey if you're in miami go to the skate parks john j will be there bro he's there right now right now probably i swear to god he probably is there right now so text him bd do we have a best friend of z week we do and his name is walker beuler yeah i double up there you discussed had to because he was the leader in uh j game score so by six burlander second place with 80 points.
Starting point is 01:24:15 Walker, 86. A lot of people talking about John Jay's name. Is that an early settler name? Yeah. Jonathan Jay. Probably. Jonathan Jay. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:24:25 Yeah. Dallas Keiko with the worst. Oh. Jay game score of the season. Just to let you guys know. Not good. It's not good. You don't even want to know about it.
Starting point is 01:24:38 One inning pitch. Seven earn runs. I don't want to know about it. You don't want to know about it. It's just awful. It's a minus three. They let him hang. for seven earnies.
Starting point is 01:24:46 Mine is three. I mean, Anderson and the third basement, we're just throwing the ball away. That's right. That's right. But earned or just runs? Seven earned, three unurned, I believe. Something like that.
Starting point is 01:25:00 I don't know. You get docked for unurned runs too. Yeah. Not as much. Tango tagger docs pitchers the same amount for unerned and earned runs. I don't. I don't. It's where you guys are different.
Starting point is 01:25:18 All right. I like you better. Thanks. Let's stimulate the simulation. Are you ready? Playoffs, the Dodgers beat the White Sox last Friday. This week, let's find out what happens. Is the music playing?
Starting point is 01:25:38 Yeah. All right, there we go. All right, BBD. In the American League, the first wild card series, the three Blue Jays will be taking on. Oh, that's not true at all. sorry. Yankees, Angels.
Starting point is 01:25:54 Who's winning the twins, right? What? The twins are winning the Central, but they have like the seventh best record. So I fucked all of this up. Shit, let's do the NL first. All right, the NL, the first wild card to the three-seat Brewers will be playing the six-seat Cardinals.
Starting point is 01:26:16 How about that? Who wins that matchup? Brewers or Cardinals? Cardinals. Oh my God. Tough. Whoa. Tough.
Starting point is 01:26:27 For those guys right there. Okay. And then the Dodgers, your four-seat Dodgers will be playing the Padres. So two inner division games in the wild card. Who wins that? Dodgers. Okay. Now we'll go over to the American League, which I think I corrected.
Starting point is 01:26:49 We'll see the twins. Are your third seed because they have winning the division. We'll be playing the Mariners as the sixth seed. Twins. Okay, how about that? The five and the four in the American League, the Blue Jays versus the Rays. Little Battle of the A's. It's the Jays.
Starting point is 01:27:16 Oh, wow, exciting stuff. Okay, in your divisional series in the National League, the Cardinals and the Giants will be squaring off. Who wins? Giants. Okay. I like this match up a lot. The Mets and the Dodgers, they share a color because the Mets are the Dodgers and the Giants colors combined.
Starting point is 01:27:39 Will the Mets beat the Dodgers and play the Giants or will the Dodgers beat the Mets and play the Giants? The Mets. Holy shit. How about that? The Mets and the Giants. So the Mets are just going through their color sake on their way to the World Series. Will they beat the Giants? they will
Starting point is 01:27:59 oh my god the match are in the world the world series holy smokes all right the divisional series in the American League the twins
Starting point is 01:28:09 will be playing the Angels who wins that halos no that's bebers angels will be sitting and waiting and they will play
Starting point is 01:28:22 the winner of the Yankees versus the Blue Jays who wins that matchup Yankees. How about that? Yankees Angels playing in the championship series. Which one will go on to play the Mets in the World Series?
Starting point is 01:28:40 The Yankees. Oh my God, it's a subway series. The cities are alive. The sky is burning. Two best teams in baseball, both in the same city. First time both teams have been this ahead in the standings. this late in the season in seven years. Who wins the World Series, the Yankees or the Mets?
Starting point is 01:29:04 Go Yanks. Oh, my God. Yankees take it. How about that zero bias involved? That was just a simulation that BPD was reading. Just crunching the numbers, putting them in, and giving you the results. Let's go. That's the episode.
Starting point is 01:29:23 A lot of cap in that one. No cap, dude. doesn't wear a hat that often. Good hair. Good hair. Yeah. If it's not a week's simulator, you won't like next week's either. Everybody have a fantastic weekend. Enjoy the baseball.
Starting point is 01:29:41 That's what we got wrong. It sucks.
