Hello and welcome to talking baseball.
Only three Friday regular season episodes left, Trev.
Bowden Francis, come on.
Let's talk ball.
Shodi Minaga.
Hello and welcome to talking baseball.
Present to you by Seekek.
Go talking 10.
Go see a game.
Go see a baseball game.
Go see Bowden Francis throw a no hitter.
Go see Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
or show to Amanaga.
How about the kids?
Chorio, PCA, doing fun stuff.
Trev, how are you?
Happy Friday the 13th.
Yeah, I noticed that it was Friday the 13th today
and I woke up to my beautiful wife shaking me,
not for the reason I usually like,
but because there was an after shock.
So we've been getting, you know,
some quakes out here. Yesterday we had a 5.1er
and then a couple aftershocks after that. I don't know, man. The earth is moving
all the time underneath us. There's tectonic plates. We used to be
one congealed continent called pangia. Now we're spread
out, but eventually, Jake, it's all going to get connected again, Pop. And that's
how melons are formed, which is crazy. And I don't want to get into that.
welcome back to talking
talking science
seismic
congealed
was that the right use of that word there
I don't know but I think it works
I think it works
Pangia always is mind-blowing
we can't
we always try to start there
we can't start there were there mountains on
Pangia
wow
I would guess no right
I think I think yes
because like there's still
plates like underneath.
I don't know, man.
I'm always thinking, hey, man,
when's the newest mountain range
going to be formed?
Because I don't want to be part of that.
Yes, the supercontinent,
Pangea had a mountain rage
called the central Pangean Mountains.
The mountains were comparable in size
to the Himalaya.
This is all BS.
I'm out.
I'm out.
This is all BS.
Oh, the mountains were as big as they did.
They don't know anything, bro.
They know nothing.
No.
We know all.
We're dating.
We know.
Let's just say buzzwords into AI until something happens.
Trev.
Dude, two weeks left.
There's a new playoff team in the stimulator.
Atlanta is out as of today.
BPD's Mets are in.
It's going to be a hostile month or something.
especially you and me.
I'm already sick of Jolly all.
We've got a blitzball battle coming up next week.
The Mets are kind of good.
Yankees twins,
are they going to tee it up this postseason?
We'll see.
Either way, to get through the postseason grind,
you know what helps, Trev?
How about five-hour energy?
Oh, yes.
Yes.
Yes.
And I've got good news for the people.
They've got a giveaway.

Why not win something?
I like that.
That's what I tell the Yanks.
But because it's Friday and the tectonic plates are moving,
we're starting in L.A. baby.
And we had a historic night, I don't know.
Shoday Minaga and Yoshinobu Yamamoto,
who's back for the Dodgers, yo.
Check out for that come postseason time.
The Cubs and Shoda.
got the better of Shohei.
Some fun matchups there.
Shohei got one to the track, but not far enough.
The Cubs took the first two games.
Treves Michael Bush.
Boogity, boogity, boogity, boogity, four-hit day, three RBI, belly three RBI.
The next day, PCA is all over the field.
And Sea Suzuki, kind of like, hey, I'm here too, guys.
Like, come on, I've been raking.
Dodgers, they get the last game because Tommy E.
Edmund's now just homering every at bat.
Not sure what that's about.
Hey, St. Louis.
Cubs take two out of three and kind of stay alive.
We'll get into Trevor Plufe's standings in a little bit.
The Tampa Bay Rays and the Philadelphia Phillies played three in the Phillies,
swept them, and Edwin Yucetta and Nick Castellanos paired up for one of the best breakdowns of the year.
Trevor Plouffe put his stamp on it.
A fun one there, and then you know Castellanos with a deep flock drive to left on 9-11.
Crazy.
It's crazy how that keeps happening.
Phillies, they win two one-run games on the bread games.
Cody Clemens with a walk-off as he's filling in for them.
Brewers, they take two out of three from the Giants, and that's obvious, unfortunately.
How about a little pitchers do well at the end?
Frankie Montas against Hayden,
Show Me Your Bird Song.
Both of them allowed zero earn runs,
but the Brewers get it done in Jackson Cherio.
Youngest player to ever go 2020.
Might be a big October for him.
It's been a big second half.
Snell had another good start.
He's going to be an interesting conversation.
Maybe this off-season, opt-in, opt-out?
I don't know.
Giants.
Yee.
De-backs won two games against the Texas.
Rangers, Walker, Jock, Eugenio, Coutel Marday, Adrian del Castillo, Randall Gritchick.
They all homered in the two games.
They put up a 14 burger in game two after shutting out Texas in game one.
But hey, Jacob de Grom's coming back.
What's that about?
Braves and Nats split two.
Reynaldo Lopez leaves with injury scary, but the Braves put up a 12 spot and shut out the Nats.
But then my Jake Swervin'Urvin holds the Braves down against Treves, Max Freed.
C.J. Abrams with a homer in that game.
They split two.
Cardinals and Reds play.
Did you watch?
Cardinals, they took two out of three after the Reds won the first game.
Hey, Red Louter Hive, raise up, five-innings shutpiece.
But then Pig O'Langell, Lance Lynn, Goldie, and Aeronado.
That's the formula, babe.
sunny gray with a nice start in that final game as donovan with the pinch hit homer and
mason win goes big fly and the series everyone's talking about the pirates sweep the marlins
uh trab's going to tell you about valente belozo's start uh i'm gonna oller at your boy with
adam oller zavion curry with the bulk in the last game uh who i saw a name johnny
pareda had three hits playing catcher not in my book welcome to the
the show, Johnny. You now are.
Paul Skeens Day and Andrew McCutcheon-Homers. We love that.
That's what happened in the national.
Great job, Poppy. Great job.
Andrew McCutcheon-Homers. It's mid-September, you know?
He's got 20.
Yeah.
Hey, shop.jomboimedia.com, if you want to look sweet like I do today.
Great job with the National League. Pop, do you want the standing?
This is going to be a tight show. I want everyone to know that.
Jake has a hard out for a leader.
meeting.
I'll give me the standings.
Was that five-hour energy
Reed just built for me?
You and Jose Al-Tuva,
who used to be their MLB spokesman,
maybe still is,
not sure.
Not sure.
But you guys,
very similar.
Bebers,
I'm going to give you a job
while I read the standings.
Please get JJ Putz's
baseball reference photo
on the screen
so everyone can just enjoy
the facial hair.
And I will get into
the National League standings
and because it's Friday
the 13th,
we're going to get spooky,
Jake.
real spooky and start out east
with those Philadelphia Phillies.
They're 88 and 58,
eight games above the Mets who are 80 and 66
who are above the Braves by a game.
They're 79 and 67.
Look at that thing.
What do you call that, Jake?
What do you call that?
Alpha.
That's what you don't want to see that in the ninth inning.
That's not a sole patch.
Maybe that it's a massive soul patch.
That's a sole tee.
That's a sole t.
patch and a goatee. It looks
like a home plate on his chin.
It does. He's
JJ Putts, John Boy Media
guy. I think his, I saw him at the
Diamondbacks game and his
kids big fans too, so pretty cool.
$38 million. What's in his
basement? I don't know. A lot of sense. Anyways.
Brave, 79 and 67,
Nat, 65 and 81, then those Marlins,
55 and 92. We'll go to the Central
or the Milwaukee Brewers at the
very moment. They have a magic number
of seven. It's magic number
season people.
84 and 62, nine games
above the Cubs who are 75 and 71.
The Cardinals, two games over
five, you got to love it. Let's go birds.
Two birds on a bat. 74
and 72. The Reds, what happened
to the Reds? 71 and 77
and Pittsburgh 70 and
76. Out west, the Dodgers
are five games up
on the Debecks. They're 87
and 59. Debex.
82 and 64, a half game above the Padres
who are 82 and 65, the Giants 72 and 75
and the Rockies 55 and 92. And as you mentioned, Jake,
there is a new team in the stimulator. The N.L. Wildcard goes
like this. Diamondbacks have the one slot.
Half game up on the Padres, who have a one and a half game lead on
the New York Mets, now occupying the third spot. They're a game above
Atlanta, five games above Chicago, and six games above St. Louis will hear what BPD has to say
about them, and those are the standings in the National League.
Trev, no one does it. No one does it like you. Nobody. Nobody. I'm worried about the earthquakes
again. Stay safe. Holdie, my house was built in the 1960s. Right. It's like what stood the
test of time. Fires, heavy rains in two.
and whenever that was, 22.
That's good.
Yeah.
Mets.
Okay.
See, this is just wrong.
Mets with a 55.8% chance to make the playoffs,
which would make me think the Braves would be under 50% using fan graphs.
It has the Braves at 56.5%.
That's...
I don't, dude.
Don't ask about it.
Yeah, that's right.
That's right.
All I know is I made this point on, I guess it was, I don't know when I made this point.
Maybe with C. Rose.
Maybe it was on this show.
I do so many baseball shows.
People are sick of me.
But the Braves.
It's an emotional episode.
Excuse me, the Mets.
Yeah.
They got a gauntlet of a schedule coming up.
I think this was this show we talked about.
Maybe that's what is going on.
Again, percentages and I just don't get along.
No.
Seems to me like it's a coin flip, and I think it kind of does reflect that.
Trev
Yes
Again great job on the standings
We started out in L.A.
And let's head out to L.A.
Where the Cubs are
Man, it was tough looking at the standings
And seeing that they're five games out
I mean that's
Less than two and a half weeks
Like that's
You need a lot of other stuff to go wrong
To get in the mix
And maybe it'll happen
And hey, they took two out of three
From the Dodgers
Which visiting L.A.
that's that's as daunting as it gets.
I think you're talking a little Michael Bush later.
We had, again, the international flavor on the field for that Tuesday game was pretty special.
What did you see out there?
Yeah, there's a good stats, I believe, on the page here talking about the matchup.
It's only the second time that we've had four Japanese players facing off in the same game.
the last time it happened was the Mariners
versus the Yankees.
And that was, let me see if I can remember this.
I have it here, sorry.
Ichero Suzuki, Kenji Jojima.
I don't have him on a book.
I forgot about that guy.
Wow.
And then for the Yankees, it was Hideki and Kei Gawa,
who I used to face an old AAA back in the day.
I used to make him feel my wrath and went down in Rochester.
So I just, I like that.
And there was, you know, the respect
between Shoda and
Otani before the
bat which is really cool and I don't know
man like
I was talking to
a waiter at a restaurant
that I went to is I have my Shohey
Otani shirt on nice
and he was we were talking about
Shohei's Dodger fan he was Japanese
and
it was we were just talking about how guys now
kind of coming over earlier in their
careers over to America and how, you know, there's a one kid that I believe he's going to Stanford.
And just guys coming over here and showcasing Japanese town is just, is, it's just awesome to me.
And if you don't believe that that league is like on par with Major League Baseball, go check out the WBC every single year.
Like, see who's coming out of that place. There's more guys coming that are, I mean, it's just awesome.
Like I am such a fan of international baseball
and guys coming to the big leagues
and disrupting everything.
It's different styles of play.
You love it.
But it's not only that.
It's like these guys are legit.
There's some right hand over there.
I don't know his name.
I only cover Major League Baseball.
But he throws like a zillion miles an hour.
He's going to come over here and shove it.
Roki.
I can't wait.
Roki Sasaki.
Sasaki.
I had that on a tip of my tongue.
There's a chance he comes over this offseason.
We'll talk about that then.
Dude,
I said it jokingly,
Sayah as the throw-in in this conversation
in 832 OPS, dude.
And the other thing,
this is a little old man yelling at Cloud,
and that's all right,
because I'm coming to grips with that.
But man, you, and I know Jimmy,
Jimmy's gotten pretty frustrated with it,
and I think you have too,
and I think it means more coming from you.
There's a lot of loss,
fundamentals in today's baseball because they went so hard into exit velo and like we'll find a
position for you if you can hit and like you guys know the fundamental like put in the work on
your own time and like i i hope there's another wave coming that's like hey you're a minor leaguer
like let's let's throw to the right cutoff and stuff there's some weird stuff going on in
major league baseball this i get it it's old it's soft whatever uh dude the show to covering first show
Hey Otani running down the line, one of the fastest players in baseball. He thinks he pieces one down the
line, a little 361 double play and Shoda getting to first, beating Shohay there, covering first
properly, it was like, again, it's a little obnoxious. But it was like, you get fired up over a
PFP? Yeah, dude. It was pretty baseball. Okay. That's a, that's a real ball in that way.
It was pretty baseball. And like, I don't know. Like, I feel.
like we don't even expect and maybe this is just us attacking pitchers which includes your son now
um of like dude they um i almost don't expect pitcher we don't expect pitchers no we don't expect
pitchers no we do not that that's yes right like that's it's pathetic but like they don't they don't
know how to bend their knees it's crazy the things that we just assume pitchers can't do and
And Shodah.
Like they late, we had to change the game because pitchers were so bad at hitting and didn't care about it.
Shoda listed 510.
We're going to get our sources on that year.
Gosh, you think he rakes.
You think he rakes.
Shoda.
Ooh.
Yeah.
And Shoda hit?
Absolutely.
Gosh, we need to find that out.
Absolutely.
Um, here's my take on that.
And again, it's supposed to be a tight up.
I'm not tight it's going to be pops.
I'm eating.
See you later.
We're yucking ball.
during a season, you just don't practice fundamentals.
And I don't know why that is.
Yeah.
Like, there's no, they're not doing PFPs during the season.
They're not doing bunt coverages, first and third place relays.
Nobody is doing that.
I mean, you do it in spring training.
So you do it for, I don't know, four, five weeks in spring training.
And then that is it.
And you have all the ass, I said this before on the show,
You have all the aspirations that you could ever dream of defensively in base running in spring training.
You have six bunt plays, three first and third plays.
We're going to take the extra base and be, you know, aggressive.
And then all that goes out the window during the season.
You run one bunt play, get the out, and you throw through or you hold on a first and third play.
That's it.
And I don't know why.
I mean, these are big leaguers.
They should be able to do pretty much anything you ask them to do with the baseball.
catching and throwing is part of the game
but then it just goes out the window
you take DEP yeah everyone's doing
defensive work now
but it's not like plays it's like your hands
everyone's
everyone's doing the Ron Washington drill on the side of the field
with their infielders everyone's doing that
yeah you're going to take some ground balls
throw across the diamond
outfielders they don't even shag
bro like they'll take a few
a few off the bat
and then I'm good
I don't want to tire myself out
okay I don't know man
I shouldn't have said. Don't get me started on bunting, although we're going to talk about bunting later in the show.
This is a beautiful series.
I'll say.
I like the Cubs coming in, handing it to the Dodgers.
We'll talk a little bit more about Michael Bush later.
Walker Buehler needs to figure it out.
He said so himself.
Great to see Yamamoto for the Dodgers.
Really needed that outing for him.
He ended up going 59 pitches,
which was probably longer than I thought he would go in his first start back.
So he's got to be that guy for them.
Glass now, I believe, is throwing bullpens on his way back.
That's going to be, you know, they need that rotation reinforcement.
Because as you're seeing here, Bobby Miller ain't getting the job done.
Walker Bueller ain't getting the job done.
Not saying they, I mean, yeah, maybe I am saying it's too late to figure it out.
It might be for those guys.
Right?
They're not going to be in the postseason rotation.
There's no way.
So, yeah, I mean, you got to give credit to the Cubs.
They came, played all around great baseball.
Cody Bellinger owns the Dodgers.
I think he's won Dotting it against the Dodgers.
Since he's been traded.
Or did he get traded or go sign a free agent deal?
He signed, yeah.
Yeah, free agent deal.
Since he left, how about that?
Pete Carr Armstrong, holy schnikes, bro.
All over the field.
Oh, Bieber, say it, Beeps.
Imanagan, 327 career-played appearances,
a 184 batting average with a 418 OPS,
four career doubles, one career triple.
Well, two of those doubles in the triple were a year ago.
So he's finding his stroke.
Can he bunt?
If we could...
I'm in pursuit.
If we could find the triple footage, that would be pretty special.
Yeah, it's where I feel kind of bad for the Cubs,
and it's where I was disappointed to see that five games back
because the storylines do end up with L.A.
It's Tommy Edmund, back-to-back two Homer games.
Max Muncie, destroying baseballs and watching it.
Yeah, a lot of the Dodgers lineup questions are getting answers.
While it's going to come down to Yamamoto and Glass Now and that.
So that's what's going to be fun to watch.
And through all of this, I mean, I know we talked about it,
but Shohei is now at 47 home runs and 48 stolen bases.
People are really trying to discount the stolen base
because of the disengagement rule.
and I guess the bigger bases.
But like, has it really made it that much more easy to steal bases?
Who gets who picks off twice?
Nobody picks off twice.
And maybe that's what people are talking about.
Or it's the pitch clock.
Maybe that's what it is.
There's got to be something.
And I do agree that it is easier to steal bases now.
But is it one clear-cut thing?
I don't think it is.
I think it's maybe just a mixture of all those things.
Bigger bases.
So it's a fraction of a set.
second, it's going to be cut off from your
time between bases.
And then the pitch clock, as it's winding down, you know the guy has to
go home or disengage or pickoff.
That's a new word in baseball, disengage.
Dude, I think, I don't know.
I mean, I know you and I are kind of,
you know, conspiracy theory, Illuminati
guys.
I just think them even bringing those rules to the forefront,
Like just reminded everyone, like you can steal bases.
Like, yeah.
If a double is better than a single, a single and a stolen base is a double.
Cannot wait.
I cannot wait.
There's some billionaire son listening to this show right now who's going to bring us in for their front office.
And we're going to go, some bases are good.
Cuban ballplayers.
Cubans.
Bring them in.
but all of them.
Oh, God.
Yule Griel is playing first base at 42 years old for the Royals.
That's what I'm talking about, people.
He's probably 45.
Uly, man.
Trev, I think the only series that really has stuff to bite into is Phillies and Tampa.
And I mean, it's not even really the series.
The Phillies sweep them,
walk off Cody Clemens in that first game.
Schwartz hitting bombs.
But, I mean, like I said, we got one of the breakdowns of the year.
I know Jimmy, what is it, 12 and a half minutes.
That's he was, when he gets giddy on something, he gets giddy on something.
Picasso was in the last.
I mean, he jumped into the Wednesday episode,
just to say he found a pitcher tipping that led to the Cassiano gets hit.
And you get a Cassiano's post game.
which is always electric.
Rays are dead so we don't need much there.
But I guess for your fight-ins or the whole you set a situation?
Yeah, I mean, I don't know, dude.
He got banged around and threw a ball at Castellanos.
And I don't know if it was 100% intentional
or if it's one of those things where, man,
I really got to get this ball in there
and I don't care if it hits him.
I mean, Jimmy's breakdown does show a heat map
of all his fast balls.
and there's only one outlier
and it's that one
the kid's guesting.
Weird.
Which is crazy to me, dude.
Like you're so bad at your,
I mean, he's very good.
He's a great year.
But on that particular day,
you're so bad at your job
that you're just like,
screw it,
I'm gonna nail somebody,
see what happens.
Like, you know,
that seems crazy to me.
I love it.
How do you even think that way?
I don't know.
Pitchers, you know how I feel about them.
I think my biggest question here is,
look,
you know how high I am on the Phillies.
They're one of the most complete teams in baseball.
I want to know what they're going to do
with their postseason rotation.
Clearly it's going to involve Nola,
Wheeler,
Sanchez, and Ranger Schwarz,
yes, but over his last eight starts,
and that's kind of cherry-picking, if you will.
He's got a six ERA, man.
Yeah.
Like it hasn't been the same old Ranger Swarres.
It's not like a guy that you can, right now,
just plug in and count on.
Is that going to change, you know, when the lights come on?
Probably.
372 babb against some 855 OPS in those games.
It just hasn't been good, man.
And they haven't really been winning his game.
So you had a five-in-start against Miami that you give up no runs.
Decent start against the Royals, but it hasn't been the same.
And I guess we're so used to him being, I mean, lights out.
went into that June 30th start when I started the numbers with a 183.
And now he's posted that he's 305 on the year.
He's got to figure it out.
And so I guess my question is like, you know, where do you slot him in?
Well, dude, I think it's a, the good news is it's for some starters, you'd really have to worry about that.
In 2022, I think Ranger came out of the bullpen twice.
Like, this guy's a dog.
Is that going to be the case for him?
Is that really going to be it?
I think you track these next couple starts.
And the other thing that Ranger Suarez has going for him,
dude, in 33.1 postseason innings, postseason,
1.62 ERA.
Like, the guy's been just, he hates out.
He doesn't give a shit.
Dude, even BBD is showing that the opener to the breakdown,
they're like seeing Harper screaming and Castellanos
with his just like pissed off but demure energy.
I tried it.
Like, I just got excited for Philly's postseason baseball, dude.
Like, these guys back at it, we didn't even talk
Trey Turner who had a game with two two-run homers.
I love Trey Turner.
You know how much I love Trey Turner.
This team is October.
And it's going to be funny to see who they come up against.
Because they, they're the big bad wolf.
Like, we talk, the Dodgers have clear questions.
Like, what is that pitching staff going to look like?
The Braves were supposed to be the big bad wolf,
but they've had a crazy injury year.
Right now, they're out.
The Phillies are the team.
They're the team.
I mean, they have the best record.
No, the Dodgers have the best record in baseball, I believe.
No, Phillies are two games up as of today, a game up as of today.
88 and 58.
You are right.
Dodgers 87 and 59.
We'll stimulate some of that later.
That's not a good math.
That's just one game.
But hey, it's no big deal.
It's never been my thing.
Just straight up.
It's a quick gap.
We're going to fire through this thing.
Hey, junior Camanero, get him on your radar, everyone, for next year.
He has a three-hit day.
And Brandon Lau could be an interesting on Waken Jake.
I was going into some of the free agent class, kind of last check-in before we get there.
He has a team option.
They're going to pick up.
It's 10-mill.
He has another 10-mill team option the next year.
Don't be surprised if he's a trade candidate guy this offseason
because he's hitting again.
Versatile lefty power.
And the raise will just call up someone for 800K,
get two pieces back for Brandon Lowe and reboot up the machine.
See you next year, race.
Damn, dude.
There's 71 and 75?
Yeah.
It was, I mean, people have been talking about the year
that it doesn't happen for the raise for like 10 years.
this just happened to kind of be it, I guess.
Trev, the rest of the NL,
pirates, fish, no, Reds, Cardinals,
kind of no, although don't go look at the Cardinals record.
There are two games over five.
I know, like I'm, Cardinals, I'm happy for you.
It's just not enough right now.
It's not enough.
Yeah, I guess if, I'm going to talk a little snakes,
but that's a two-game series.
Braves Nats was two games.
the only other three-gamer is your Brewers,
and they take two out of three from the Giants,
and that's obvious in a way.
I don't know.
Yeah, I mean, I mentioned seven games for seven games is the magic number
for them to win the NL Central.
The bookend games are kind of like classic Brewers games,
holding their opponent to two runs through the two games,
you know, scoring enough when they need to.
Giants open it up in the second game, Blake Snow, you know, great start.
I have a guy who I'm going to talk about later that I'm going to compare to Blake Snow.
Wow. Okay.
And now I think I just gave it away to you. Shoot.
Yeah, I think, look, we're trying to keep it tight today.
Brewers doing their thing.
They've been doing it all season long.
You know the bullpen is there.
You know what they're about.
I wanted to touch.
Do I have anything on, I mean, Diamondbacks absolutely just take care of business against the Rangers.
Rangers are kind of a topic on Monday.
day because we got the Kumar start, which he looked nasty.
We got DeGrom and Scherzer. Obviously, it's too late for the Rangers this year.
Dimebacks, talk about complete teams.
You got to talk Debex.
Yeah.
I mean, they are, they are those guys.
I think the National League has, by far, the most, I feel like it's four teams in the
national league before you get to the first team in the American League.
Well, they all just.
Power rankings right now?
Power rankings right now.
Kings. Power is power, bro.
Yeah.
You put the Yankees above
Phillies, Dodgers,
snakes, or Padres?
I don't think you do.
I mean, the crazy thing is...
How about the Brewers? I don't even mention the Brewers.
The Dodgers team is the only team that's kind of
in consideration just because we talked about
their pitching stuff, but like, the snakes
know what they do. Zach Gallin,
five shut out.
They've got a lineup of mallers right now.
The Mets have been playing the best
baseball and all of baseball.
The Padres love their formula,
and why wouldn't they?
Ooh, I got something.
Okay. National League is like
the SEC.
It's just really about
them. Everyone else is just like,
maybe that one team, maybe that one team from the
Big Ten might have a good year.
You know, Michigan won at all. They've got some
Yeah, the Yankees might be, Yankees might be
Michigan. How about that?
I don't hate that.
I don't hate that. Cheaters and Michigan.
comparison, right?
You're great, man.
You're so good at this.
No, it else is great.
Clinton Hall.
Everyone asks.
They're like, hey, I'm, I get, I get, well, my, I get a lot of DMs.
Some, whoa.
But I get a lot of like, hey, Jake, coming to the city, don't know where to go.
We're going to a ball game.
Go to Clinton Hall.
This episode of Talking Baseball is brought to you by Clinton Hall.
They've got several locations across New York City.
City.
36, 51st,
Fideide, the Bronx,
near Fordham.
The double smash burger, Trev,
yep.
I'm starving right now.
You probably remember that as the winner
from Food Network,
NYC Food and Wine Festival's Best Burger.
They've got food,
20 beers on tap.
They got games.
If you're looking for the bar,
happy hour,
maybe I've spent some late nights.
Turo's with horchata ice cream.
Get out of you.
here. Clinton Hall, large groups, events, after work.
They know a thing. This is that thing. Yeah. Oh, my. Go book your reservations,
Rezi, or just go there. There's a link. Let's do some American link.
And we'll start with Michigan, aka the New York Yankees who take down, who would the royals be?
Minnesota, like the Golden Gophers or something.
I guess Minnesota is Minnesota.
Nebraska?
They're kind of back this year.
Oklahoma State.
Oklahoma State.
Go pokes.
Yankees take two out of three.
They win the first game 10.4.
Austin Wells, man, has become the favorite for rookie of the year by the betting people.
And they don't mess around with their money.
Good dancer, too, people are saying.
They blow that game open late.
They get shut down by Seth Lugo, seven shut piece.
He's going to throw a postseason start this year.
Tommy Fam homers.
But then the Yankees in 11 innings,
Jazz Chisholm with the walkoff, his first ever, I believe.
Yankees take two out of three.
X-winning baseball is still a little bizarre.
I don't think we need to talk about that.
Michael Massey has a pretty swing.
Anyways, the Boston Red Sox take two out of three from the Baltimore Orioles, the Red Sox.
Staying alive, man, which, man, they've got to be kind of kicking themselves because they have not been good since the All-Star break.
At one point, I think there were 10 games under 500 since the All-Star break.
But Tyler O'Neill, baby, how's your three-run walk-off Homer to take the series?
They rock the Orioles pitchers in game one, putting up a 12 spot.
There's Tyler O'Neill, Devers.
Cedric Mullins moves up the lineup, and it pays off instantly a two-homer game.
Adley Rushman down the lineup.
Oh, yeah, and Albert Suarez with his season-high strikeouts and swing and miss pitches.
So get ready for that, I guess.
Red Sox, staying alive.
The Oakland A's take two out of three from the Astros, and in the first game,
it comes off bunts, back-to-back buntz.
And look at that.
Baseball's back.
Me, Trev and Rod.
Bringing it back as they win that one in 12 innings.
Joey Estes with a nice start in that second game with enough offense.
Astros come back in the final game.
John Singleton with three hits.
Their first base situation is getting louder and louder as Yiner gets a start over there.
this series.
Hayes, why not?
Brent Rooker, Lawrence Butler's still going nuts.
J.J. Bladay.
Almost gave him my award.
Having a great year.
You already stopped listening.
Padres Mariners, they split two.
Eh, yeah.
Mani Machado, most home runs in Padre history.
That's nuts.
They win that first game.
Seattle, Brian,
Woo!
6.2 to earn runs.
J.P. Crawford.
And Cal Rally in that dump truck, but 30 home runs on the year.
The Mets take two out of three from the Blue Jays.
They win the first game three to.
Tyler McGill's six-up piece.
Okay, we can work with that.
Big boy, big boy.
Chris Bassett comes back next game, shuts them down a little redemption series,
hits Pete, they smile, we like baseball.
And in that final game, Bowden Francis, no, no, into the knife.
Oh, my.
God. Lindor, homers, they blow the roof off of the inning to take the win and take the series
and win that six two. Twins take two out of three from the Angels. Trev's going to tell you something
about that series. I hope it's about Jack Coaching at which he won't tell me his award today,
but he did leave a hint about a Blake's Snell comp. I don't know. Travel mentioned something
about that series. I'm over it. Guard dogs, they sweep the white socks. Yeah. Yeah. And that's
obvious. Bo Nailer has a big game.
Lane Thomas has been balling
and after he came out of the gates. Obviously.
Yeah, he came out of the gates slow for them.
He's been one dotting,
Aba Blately. Abba lately? Those weren't
words. Uh, Rockies, Detroit.
Tigers win two out of three.
Uh, they would have liked to get all three,
but the Rockies take that final game.
Uh, your guy Jordan Beck with the Homer.
I'll let you break down his swing.
And is he lefty or righty?
Uh, Cater Montero, nine innings shutout.
do like that. And that's what Carrie was a carpenter was Jesus. Let's get the standings.
One last thing or another thing for Beaver's. I think we're going to make this an occurrence
on the show. Ryan Madsen baseball reference photo, please. This is early 2000's facial.
It's just we need to get back to it people. I think of Sugar Ray. You know, Fred Durst.
That's just, remember when? It's so skinny.
That's the opposite of the
That's the anchor.
That looks like a ship anchor.
Remember when Ryan Madsen was pitching in like every postseason baseball game?
He's really good.
2017, 2018.
I need the standings, Trev.
I'm sorry.
I got the stand.
It's Friday the 13.
Let me get a little spooky with the facial hair.
My goodness.
And because it's Friday, we'll start.
Is my goodness kind of a signature line for you?
My goodness.
Yeah, it kind of is.
It is.
Nice, okay.
Got to keep a PG on this show.
We'll start out West.
That's what I want to do.
We're going to go bottom to top right here.
Houston, a four and a half game lead over Seattle.
It seems like it's been four to five games
and really nothing less or more than that in quite some time.
They're 78 and 68.
Seattle, 74 and 73, still holding on to hope.
The Rangers are not holding on to hope.
Although, like I said, they got some guys going back.
Yeah, sweet.
71 and 76 for them.
64 and 83 for the Oakland A's and 60 and 86 for the Los Angeles Angels.
We'll go to the Central now where the Cleveland Guard Dogs.
Kenny Lofton does not like that name.
They have a four-game lead on the Kansas City Royals.
They're 84 and 63, the Royals 80 and 67.
My twins, 78 and 68, tight with the Astros.
How about that?
Detroit, three games over 5, 75 and 72.
They're still very much in the wild card.
We'll get to that.
And the white socks.
I feel like they're so bad.
We just don't even...
Like, this is a bigger story than we're making it.
33 and 114 is insane.
Out East.
University of Michigan.
New York Yankees.
I don't know.
I like it.
Who are the Trojans in this whole thing?
Figure that out.
Maybe the Royals for the Trojans.
USC?
Yeah.
It's the Dodgers, no?
That doesn't make any sense.
Yeah.
I think that just works.
Yeah.
not really winning anything, but always just really good.
Kind of bad.
That's daughter fans don't like that.
85 and 62 for your Yanks, two games up.
That's a big lead for them against the Baltimore Orioles who are 83 and 64.
The Red Sox won game over 5, 74 and 73, Tampa 72 and 75, and Toronto, 69 and 78.
Now in the wild card, Jake.
Right now the Baltimore Orioles of the top spot.
Kansas City Royals, a game.
and a half up on my twins
have the second spot
and the twins who are three and a half games up
on the Tigers have the third spot.
So Tigers, three and a half games back.
They got a puncher's chance.
The Mariners, four and a half games back.
Boston four and a half games back.
It's tight,
but it's getting to that point where
even though it sounds like
a small lead as we get
late into September, Jake.
It's going to have to take a lot.
lot and the twins are going to have to really, really struggle there.
Those are the standings in the AOL. Let's talk some ball.
Great stuff. Yeah, your twins, those two back-to-back wins.
Like massive, Kyle Farmer.
Yeah.
Let's talk a little Michigan and Nebraska, the Royals and the Yankees.
That's good.
Yeah, because Nebraska's kind of back.
Dominic Rayola.
He's got the whole copying the Homes thing going on.
Oh, he's like the patch of my homes guy.
That's perfect.
That's perfect.
The Royals are back.
Nebraska's back.
We're just ball knowers.
Yeah, again, if you want an hour and a half on this, go check out talking Yanks as we're
starting to eye the postseason.
I got stuff on this one.
You just shut up.
Let me do it.
God, I keep thinking about Ryan Madsen's facial hair.
I just, it was so good back of the 2000.
We had it so good.
We don't even know.
Nice.
Let's get older.
White 2K.
Yeah.
Jason Dominguez.
Is that he say his name?
Jason Dominguez.
Jason, yeah?
I think it's Jason.
I think that's just
Tim joking around.
Boone calls him Hassan, but I think that's just
locker room talk before that got ruined.
Okay.
I mean, he's named after Giambi.
Oh, Jason Dominguez.
That makes it a lot easier on me.
Yeah.
Okay, Jason Dominguez, back in the show.
Yes.
You guys are happy about that.
Here's what I thought interesting.
You know, you want to be aggressive on the base.
Yes, she steals third base, but it was with a left-handed hitter up.
Sal Perez behind the plate, three, two, count, two outs.
Very weird time to steal third base.
But here you steal it on the pitcher.
Maybe he adds some on the pitcher, and Sal throws it away.
He scores.
I just thought that that was an interesting time to steal third base.
I don't know.
That's an observation I had.
Yeah, I mean, three, two, two outs.
Like, if you're going to get a good jump there.
Are you?
I don't know.
And maybe, like, like it was a breaking ball and maybe they knew, you know, they were going to go.
If he maybe saw in his hands, something happened, I'm happy for him.
Right.
Sal threw it from his knees.
I'm just a weird time to steal.
Big Sal put on a show this series, man.
I know that's, it's tough.
I got some notes on him.
Tough that that's the highlight we're showing.
But four for four in that first game.
two for three in the second.
His plate coverage is nuts.
Yes.
Yes.
Like,
Stroman made a really good pitch on him.
I think it was a ground ball up the middle, some RBI.
Down and away.
Perfect spot.
But Sal gets the barrel.
I don't know.
He just got great plate coverage.
Austin Wells, nice Homer first game.
Down and then, big boy Homer.
Big boy reaction.
Got to love that.
And then the Royals, game two,
they win Lugo 17 straight, retired?
Yeah.
It's hot.
Yeah.
There's the pitch down in the way from Stromen.
Yeah, that's my note on this one.
Just crazy plate coverage by Sal.
Throughout the entire series,
he can pump you to left to right,
whatever he needs to do.
He's just been that guy.
He got to 100, or 100 of it in.
Only the second time in his career.
Pretty cool.
So good for him.
Third game, Jazz had a great backhand of play.
You guys been talking about his defense.
defense. So I kind of like was looking through some of the plays.
Great.
Down the line. Yeah. Tough hop.
Gloves it. Gets up.
Doesn't even bounce past it.
No. All the way.
His arms.
Absolute hose. Does he have a hose?
His arms incredible. Arms incredible and his range.
Dude, he makes the highlight plays, like the 10 out of tens.
He can go out with anyone right now.
It's just the routine stuff because, dude, he hasn't played over there.
Here's the thing.
Here's what I get here.
Check this out.
Beaver's is just on top of it with the highlights.
That's not a hard or not an easy play.
The throw is,
the throw is.
That's such a good feeling on that throw because you're getting up
and you know you got to get on top of it.
So like you really are like using your whole body to pull down
and then you just hammer that thing.
Oh.
I wanted to spit right there.
I know when you said that thing.
Uh-huh.
Um,
so here's my thing with jazz.
Yeah.
Like, I kind of, like, wasn't feeling him early on in the season.
Right.
It was saying things.
I didn't like him.
Talk trash about Miggi Rojas.
Yeah, like, I just, I don't, I didn't like that whole thing.
And, you know, and now maybe it's just that he was on the Marlins,
and that just was a bad vibe there all around.
Sure seems that way.
Now he's got in a clubhouse where, like, he can't really do stuff like that
because he's got Aaron Judge, who's a freaking,
massive human being, like he's, you answer to him.
Some guys need that, right?
And you know I love a good third baseman.
So he's kind of pull me back in.
He's, he's been electric.
The base running's incredible, the arm strength, the high,
the high level stuff.
It's just, yeah, some of the routine stuff.
Like he doesn't know the footwork super well.
He hasn't played a lot of third base.
Like, it makes sense.
He was an infielder, though.
Right, right.
No, I mean, it's definitely not foreign.
There's some adjustments there.
Last notes I have on this is we got to hurry up, Jake.
Soto, the homer after the foul off his foot, took a little bit too long, but still at the homer.
Usually you say, get your butt back in the box or else you're going to be out.
That's the old wives tale.
He crushed that one.
And then Sal had a great play at first base.
Yeah.
Try to tag and then he threw, who was it?
Was it Labor out at home?
Or Budap.
Volpe.
Or Volpe.
One of those guys.
Yeah, he got.
Trevino goes out of the baseline.
They get a double play on that.
A big fan of Sal. So there's a big Sal series,
even though they lost two out of three.
He performed admirably.
Royals,
that playoff bullpen's going to be interesting.
Because Erseg looks great.
It is great.
After him,
you know, I won't name names,
but that was the Yankees' feeding time.
And it's going to be interesting.
Like, if they're in a wild card,
you've got Lugo Reagan's Wakan singer
Is Lugo, do you maybe have Lugo come out of the bullpen
Because he's done that before?
I don't know, interesting.
No.
Hit up your guy, Matt Quitraro.
You can piggyback.
Yeah, I mean, they're going to figure things out.
You don't put Lugo in the bullpen.
That's just, he just threw seven scoreless.
I guess Michael Waka's got some bullpen stuff too.
Anybody can do it in the postseason.
But they're pitchers.
You know, we're getting to that time postseason
where all the pitchers have their cleats on.
Yeah, you like that.
Freaking love that.
No what else you're going to like?
Oh my God, I have to wear a cleats during a baseball game?
What?
No what else you're going to like?
I think about how ridiculous that is.
Sorry.
I'm just going to name on fan graphs.
One, two, three, four, five, six.
There's six guys listed on the Royals bench right now.
Four of them are Yule Gariel.
Adam Frazier.
Of course.
Robbie Grossman.
Yep.
And then I threw Garrett Hampson in there, too.
Just, you know.
Okay.
Garrett Hampson just fighting the good fight.
He ended up at first base in one game.
Royals, interesting.
Royals fans, sound off.
Let us know what you want.
Your three-game wild card plan to be.
Coleriggins.
Yanky's-106 losses last year.
Yeah.
You want to talk about your socks.
They took two out of three.
They're alive-ish.
You know, I can't talk about last night's Yankees win against them.
But they held serve against the Orioles.
Yeah, they helped you guys out.
Rob Reff Snyder's my guy.
Him and O'Neill.
We'll talk about O'Neill a little bit later,
but they both went back-to-back twice in this game,
both times against a lefty.
I believe it was Cade Povich,
which I'm not,
I don't mean this in a bad way, people.
But he's like,
discount store Max Fried.
He's young.
He's young.
He'll get there.
I'm not hating on him.
He just kind of looks like Max Fried
and Max Fried's about to get the freaking bag.
God, I can't wait for him to take me out to dinner.
But Ref Snyder,
I know he's been good against Lefties.
I didn't know he was this good against Lefties.
948 OPS this year.
Yeah.
Like, hey, buddy,
you're going to play in the Big Leagues for a long time.
if you do that.
I wish I would have done that.
I was a hitter against lefties.
Maybe not that good.
Dang.
Santanderine that first game gets 40,
the most quiet 40 homer season
you're ever going to hear of.
Game two, Mollins,
it's all about him.
You mentioned he moved to the two-hole.
They moved Adley down to the five-hole,
which I think is a good move.
You know, Adley had been struggling.
And it just changes up,
gives him a little breathing time.
You know what I mean?
If you're catching,
or like just even during the first inning,
even if you're not catching,
just deaching or something.
Like, hey, like, let me like settle into the game a little bit.
Let me, my heart rate slowed down.
Let me see some pitches, you know,
maybe come up with more runners on base,
whatever it may be.
There is a different feeling between hitting first or second
and then anywhere down below in the lineup.
I mean, those first two slots in the order,
you're exposed right away.
Either you're on deck or you're at the plate,
and it's just, it's, you've got to go.
And if you need, if you're struggling a little bit,
I think it's always a good idea
to get them out of those top two slots
down the lineup a little bit.
Just breathe a little bit.
Slow it down a little bit.
Then game three have the O'Neill walkoff,
which is an absolute bomb.
And our guy, full pension Piff,
he is going to be rich too.
Even though he's like overall kind of like mid.
He has these incredible starts
where like teams that can just dream upon Nick Povetta.
And he's a reliable pitcher.
I don't know.
That's what I got in this series. Go Red Sox, go.
Man, yeah, the Adleys, some of the Adley numbers are pretty, pretty mind-blowing.
205, 283, 577 OPS in the second half.
All year, kind of, verse righties.
Hasn't been the guy you think.
That'll be an interesting storyline come there postseason.
And I can't wait to see Albert Suarez's postseason start.
Yeah, Trev.
I don't mean to, I'm not trying to crush this guy.
I think he's going to a great ball player, but, like, we have not.
No one's talking about Jackson Holiday and the struggle bus.
Yeah.
Like is he going to overall numbers, Jake?
Yeah.
530 OPS, 54 OPS plus?
Like has it been like a lot better lately that I just don't know about it?
I know he started a lot of really poor, but I got the splits up right now.
Yeah, I mean.
Last 28 days, 486 OPS, less 14 days, 477 OPS.
Less seven days, 276 OPS.
It's bad.
That's bad.
Bad, bad. Bad were like, I'm asking Orioles fans, does he play in the postseason?
Right. You got like a week to find out.
That's crazy. I'm rooting for this guy. I'm just pointing out something that I really, I mean,
I haven't been super zoomed in on the Orioles and, you know, what exactly they've been doing at the plate,
specifically Jackson Holiday, but I just went into the numbers and okay. That's, that's something
they have to consider.
Yeah, that's the,
man, are they
banged up? What's going on?
I mean, obviously some of their pitchers.
I mean, West, right now they're missing
Mountcastle, Westberg,
Kerstad, Mateo.
Yeah.
Yeah, Orioles fans, let us know what you want.
Looking at his game logs, it seems like
just very streaky for Holiday,
but how good are the good, how bad's a bad?
Orioles fans let us know.
Couple weeks to figure it all out.
Treve, in Houston and the A's,
I hit it on the way through,
but the three straight bunts in the 12th,
you don't see that a lot.
And pretty funny.
There's only one good bunt, too.
Right.
Right.
Dazzled a good one down,
down the third baseline,
and then the other ones were just kind of like,
what does you do on baby Astros?
Yeah, the Narris.
throw is pitchers fielding compilation.
There's one guy where I'm positive.
He does not know where the ball is going on a PFP.
It's Hectorneras.
I'm positive of that.
Doesn't feel like his strength.
And a lot of baseball.
You just know the guys when they pick a ball.
You're like, oh, boy.
That's what they say, always be ready for a bad throw.
I think the A's and the Astros have the same record in the second half.
Yeah.
Yum.
That's good.
I mean, look, I'm happy.
Ace fans.
You got some real players there.
Brent Rooker is doing some historic things.
Like, he could be the first
A player
to hit 300, 30, and 100
since Mark McGuire
or something like that.
Like, he's, let's go.
God, I love that for Brent.
And then, yeah, they have some young guys turning it on.
He talked to a Butler all the time.
He's turned into a menace out there.
And things are looking up,
but I feel like that's what we always
say about the A's. Hey man, you got these really good young players. Like it's going to go and then
Jay, J.J. I shouted him out on the way through. He's having a great year for a center fielder.
Yeah, some of his stats are silly. Only second center fielder in A's history to hit 20 homers and 40
doubles. That's a lot of extra base going on there. How about Oakland's starting pitching?
Mitch Spence
Three straight quality starts
JPC or six innings, no earned runs.
Joey Estes, who I just learned as my buddy's cousin
from Lancaster.
Pericles, high.
He used to play them all the time.
Six and two-thirds, two-run runs.
That's a quality start.
And then you have Mitch Spence.
Seven two-earned runs.
Okay.
Framber's scoreless streak ends after 20 innings.
Casual.
It's another, just a good couple starts for him.
B is we're going to move on
But we have any updates on El Tuve?
Five hour an El Tuvei?
Or his injury?
He had a little oblique thing.
Yeah, it doesn't look good.
Being honest.
He said he's not worried, but that's not an update.
Yeah.
He's not worried, Trev.
The last...
Didn't play last night.
The last big one for me in the AL
is Mets J's.
and about in France is no-hitter stuff.
I mean, pretty incredible how baseball can do that.
A guy getting his shot because the Jay's season kind of went down the tube.
So that's been cool to see.
He started the year in the rotation.
Then he had a bad couple stars that kicked him down.
He actually went down to AAA.
Yeah.
So yeah, he...
We love that too.
I do love that.
Go work on yourself, King.
yeah so he made a ton of adjustments i have him here um they said the number one thing he's doing better
is just throwing more strikes with his fastball okay awesome uh but then his pitch mix has completely changed
early on it was it was fastball curbstall um almost 80% of the time uh then he's like
that was getting absolutely rocked so instead now that curveball is turned into like slider slash splitter
Splitter's been like a really, really good pitch for him.
So he's throwing those to make up for the lack of curbaal usage.
Curball's like out the window.
We're not doing that anymore.
So it's like four seam or slide or splitter.
And if you're locating, you can command those three pitches.
There you go.
I know he's had two no-noes getting broken up, Taylor Ward,
and then Lindor in this one.
They actually open up the floodgates after that.
But he's, yeah, he's establishing himself.
It's cool to see, man.
We did this on baseball today.
in his post-game interview
didn't know he was just kind of,
he's like a freak, he's a freaky dude,
you could just tell.
He had like a headphone over his ear,
this ear, like kind of like hipster, yeah.
Yeah.
Didn't know that, yeah.
What was that?
Not really sure.
That looked like,
I like it.
That looked like when you see like a UN meeting
and they've got like one of those like
worldly translator things like a lot of.
I had to ask,
I guess he was hearing impaired?
I wasn't sure.
Didn't know,
but don't want to make the assumption.
No, he's just a hipster.
Wired headphones for the win.
Kids are cool.
So are the Mets, man.
Yeah.
Fifth straight series wins.
If you've watched a lot of baseball
and you see a team with the good juice.
Yeah, they got it.
And a team without the juice right now in the Blue Jays,
a one-run ninth inning game,
you kind of, I don't want to say you knew what was coming.
Because that sounds obnoxious and rude to the Jays,
and bout in France's.
you kind of thought something was coming.
And Frankie Lindor,
that second MVP in a couple of your first place votes.
I mean,
don't say that.
Now all the Mets fans are in your mentions.
Otani does even play defense,
which like I love that argument, actually.
Hey, man, there was a note on this document saying,
should the Bobby Witt Aaron Judge case be reopened
because Judge hasn't been Homer in lately.
So I don't know
It's all on the table for me
If you want to talk more about
Metzegu Juju
They take the lead on two pass balls
Yeah
Then you have to swing the bat
And that's this guy
So serving backup catcher for
Alejandro Kirk
Your doppelganger
He comes in
I don't if he pinched ran or something
Comes in the game
He's the one out one leg out guy
Mm
Mm
First wild pitch was just an absolute
Just spiked curve ball
So like tough
you know, not really going to get to that one.
The second one, I think it was another curaball
or maybe it was a splitter or something.
He just whiffed it.
Just whiffed it.
It wasn't a great outing for him.
And then Lendor in that same inning steals
like no throw. That was on the pitcher.
So like, I know it looks really bad for serving,
but only one of those was his fault.
Okay.
Just throwing that out there right there.
Go Mets go.
Let's see how their stimulator goes.
You're welcome, Servant.
and just got you off the hook.
Do you want to talk about Angels' twins or...
No, I don't.
They needed it.
There's friction in the clubhouse
between like some of the players
and possibly the management.
I don't know, man.
It's not good.
Kyle Farmer stepped up to save the day.
That's all I'm saying.
And he texted me last night
a video of him playing wiffle ball
and he said,
give me a couple years
and I'll be with you.
I said, we're going to be the Bash Brothers
to Blitzball baby.
Whoa.
Indeed you will be, Trev.
And oh my God, indeed.

Need to hire. You need indeed. Standout performances.
Stand out performance.
Who stood out?
I am going to go with
the Chicago Cubs
first base man, Michael
Bush.
Jake loves a Bush.
Four for five.
A double.
A Homer. Three runs
driven in. Three runs scored.
They're making a comeback.
Here's what I really like.
I'm happy. Michael Bush has had a really good year.
Overall, the numbers are there
this year. Two-nine war.
Good for you.
766 OPS, 115 OPS plus.
Maybe he'll get to 20 homers this year, 17 of them right now.
But like I mentioned with Cody Bellinger,
there's something about doing it against your old team.
That just feels good, Jake.
Against the Dodgers, six games, 333, 385, 750 for the 1.1.
That feels so good, dude.
You got to love it.
as I was mentioning, nice speech right there, Trev.
The trade has actually worked out for both sides.
Michael Bush has been good for the Cubs,
and they sent over a couple minor leaguers for them.
And our guy, Zahir Hope, an outfielder, a young guy.
He's hit, it's like a 900 OPS in the minors this year,
and then also Jackson Ferris, a pitcher.
It's had a really good year.
So I don't know.
I like good trades that work out for both sides.
Obviously, not sure how that's going to work out for the Dodgers.
but Michael Bush is a big leaguer
and he's doing against Swarmer team
and I love that so he got my stand-up performance
Trev I was going to say
a lazy joke at the start
Michael Bush, an Instagram handle though
is Lil Bush
so I mean why not
I have it in front of me
you want to guess
I have it up to now
okay
oh whoa
yeah
do you live in Minnesota
or was he just born there
because technically Teddy was born in Minnesota.
Right.
And also, oh, that's Inver Grove.
Teddy's Maple Grove.
Okay, I'm over it.
Yeah, I'm very intrigued to see the second half of that trade to come through
because it doesn't seem like the Dodgers would just give,
give up a, you know, young prospect first baseman
who's put together a one more, or like a three-war season in his rookie year.
Well, they just had no room for it.
He was blocked.
I know.
I know, but I don't know.
I just, it, it smelt fishy at the time that I,
maybe your guys I hear hope is, is going to be next.
But I don't, I don't know.
I don't know.
You went to high school in Minnesota?
Okay.
Probably idolizing.
Twins territory, stand up.
Yeah.
Why do we draft this guy?
What is doing, baby?
Probably loves you.
You know who I love?
You might.
Gino.
Eugenio Suarez.
Flash,
Back.
The snakes are starting to get a couple bodies healthy at the start of summer.
They've been hanging out a little under 500.
Suarez was struggling.
And sorry to bring everyone else into this, but Seattle was killing it.
Seattle had a 10-game lead.
They got rid of these strikeout guys, Teoscar Hernandez, Ehuyaheuhenio Suarez.
Suarez, Perdomo's coming back.
Like, what do we do?
This guy's on the struggle bus.
Do we need to move on?
Like, what's up?
He kicked into gear.
And since the second half,
like, that,
Otani's pretty good, right, Trev?
He's pretty good.
Aaron Judge.
Pretty good.
It's pretty good.
I might be talking about the AL and NLMVPs.
A lot of rollovers for Judge lady.
I'm not saying it.
the most home run since the all-star game a Eugenio Suarez with 18 tied with
otani asterisk man this guy has been so so good at third base he's now has
28 home runs on the season he has an 808 OPS a 122 OPS plus
And man, it was the other thing that, you know, Mariners fans got mad at us and now, hey,
where the bullies pointing back at them.
Dude, Gino plays every day, dude.
He played 162 last year.
He's at 142 games this year.
And I think he's going to get 30 and 100 from the third base spot.
That what did they get?
Sebi Savala and Carlos Vargas.
It was almost like a salary dump for Seattle.
And the dimebacks have one of the best hitters in the second half.
He's been nasty.
Strikeout rate is the lowest it's been since 2018.
So that's nice.
New hitting philosophy.
I don't know.
A different change of scenery is great.
I like that you said he posts every day.
That's a big thing.
Evan Longoria talked about Mani Machado posting.
Of course he's commenting on Instagram.
That's just what he does.
But that's very important
I actually did not know that Gino
had these numbers.
Yeah, man.
He was, and he was down bad to start the season.
Like he, um,
he's, you know,
to one dot for a month
is really hard. And he's got July.
He was a 1.1 in September right now,
10 games, but he's 1.6.9ing.
Hello, Bebes.
Um, he's hitting 500 in September.
38 at bats.
Yeah, he's most likely going to get to 30 and 100.
I mean, he's got to go a little bit,
but that'll be the third time in his career
that he gets to 30 and 100, and that is...
Dude, I think we did this a few Epps back,
and like he's going to end up with like 300 career taters.
That's more than that.
He's 274 already, bro.
He might get the 400 homers.
He's a little older than you.
Oh, no, he's 32.
33. 33 in July.
Okay, whatever.
But still, that's a crazy career.
Let's just say he plays five more years.
And, I mean, he averages 31 for 162.
Let's just knock that thing down to 25.
That's 125 more homers.
That's going to get him to 399.
Nice math.
You've got him short.
Yeah, he's not going to get there.
Gino does not get there.
Give me some old thick D.H years.
Let's get him to four.
Give him to 500?
Does he make the Hall of Fame?
That's Coachino.
Trev, we could have talked about your guy, Rob Reffmore.
We could have talked about Michael Harris' deuses to Homer game.
Cater Montero.
Caterman.
Telling people about this guy.
With the complete game.
Can I say something about him?
Yeah.
I guess we, yeah.
Cater.
All you got to do.
He throws too many pitches that are just non-competitive.
I always say you got to be productive at the big league level.
as a starter over and over.
You got to tunnel your pitches
or you got to throw pitches
that are out of the strike zone
that end up in the strike zone
or start in the strike zone
and then end up out of the strike zone.
You get a trick hitters.
He throws just pitches out of his hand or balls.
Yeah.
And then when he's in the strike zone,
it's just like starts and stays in the strike zone.
Like if he can just command a little bit better,
he's got the stuff.
Okay.
That's all I'm saying.
Okay.
He's got a weird leg kick too.
I don't know.
Maybe flesh out some mechanical stuff.
I'm with you, dude.
I'm a catered guy.
I've always been.
You've always been.
And you've always been a Corona extra man.
Let's get to the best segment of the show.
Dirk nasty's on Fuego.
That means I'm on fire, baby, like Waco.
Jake, we're going to start off in Los Angeles.
For this series, we talked about this guy, Tommy Edmund.
Tommy two times, six for 13.
Four homers, six runs driven in.
Four runs scored a stolen base.
He recorded multi-homer games in the final two games of the series.
He's recorded this fifth multi-homer game of his career,
and he had never recorded multiple multiple home run games
in the same season, let alone in consecutive games.
Nice, dalt.
His four homers are the first four homers he's hit during the season,
only had three extra base hits in 75 plate appearances
before recording these homer games.
So now, basically, what we're saying is he's catching fire at the right time.
You're getting that extra in, baby.
Lane Thomas has always been that guy.
We've been trying to tell you, six for 13,
two double the homer, eight runs driven in against the White Sox.
He's batting 390 with five doubles, three homers and 14 runs driven in in the month of September.
Prior to that stretch, not so good, but he is turning it on as well.
How about Cody Bellinger mentioned how good he's been against the Dodgers in the series,
two homers, six runs driven in.
He has 81st and 82nd career homers in Dodgers Stadium, third most among active players.
So he's still, he's like, dude, I'm just going to keep adding on to this.
Just because I'm gone doesn't mean I can't be the home run leader at Dodger Stadium.
Love that stat.
For the week, how about Nate Lowe?
Early Settler?
He was there.
Nathaniel.
Oh, yeah, they didn't say Nate back then.
That's disgusting.
Why would I say that?
Be proper.
Nathaniel Lowe.
Six for 16, two homers, five runs driven, and seven walks.
You gotta love that.
Riley Green's been doing it.
He's a stud.
11 for 25, a double, a homer, a truck.
triple eight runs driven in, six runs scored, stud.
Two weeks, it's the list you want to be on.
Victor Robles.
Yeah. Really good for Seattle.
Pretty cool.
Really, really good.
You got the extension, right?
And he's doing his thing up there.
16 for 35, four, double six runs driven in 10 runs scored,
six stolen bases.
Over the last 30 days, Robles is a 375 average,
which leads Major League Baseball.
In our organization that we'll run,
we are still going to like batting average.
Yes.
Like not that much,
but we're still going to like it.
We like it.
Yeah.
Like who was that team that said,
I don't care how fast you throw a ball for?
The Nationals.
Yeah.
We're going to say,
we still kind of care about your average.
Know what I would?
I'm a big,
what does the opponent not want?
If I'm a team,
if I was playing against a team
that had a lot of high batting average,
I wouldn't like that.
Me neither.
Dude, one day.
One day.
Say some guy with a bunch of Bitcoin right now.
Just buy the team, hire us.
It's not a big deal.
We're crypto guys.
I won silver stock.
Go on.
Seth Lugo.
21 innings pitched in his three games started.
Only 15 hits, two earned runs,
23Ks to two walks.
Yummy Daddy likes.
He's tied the Major League
with his 16th win.
He had won 15 games over his last three seasons
combined. On Tuesday, he threw seven scoreless 10Ks
in the same game for the first time in his career. He recorded
10 plus Ks for the fourth time in his career. And all of those
have been in 2024. The Royals opposite of what is you doing,
baby? You did. You nailed it.
You nailed it. Then Edwin Diaz
has been great for the Mets in the seven games in these last
two weeks. Three saves, six and a third innings pitched,
no earned runs, only one walk to 12
case that's
is hot. But now, for the guy
that just did a little bit
extra, our Corona Extra, player
of the app, oh my gosh,
never seen you two in the same room.
Boston, outfieler,
Tyler O'Neill.
Eight for 26.
That's a 308 average, but Jake, what do he do
with those eight knocks? I don't know, two doubles
and five homers.
Nine runs driven in. Seven runs
scored on Monday.
He recorded the seventh multi-hom.
game of the season that's tied with Yordaun.
Don't even need to say his last name for the most in 2024.
And a little cherry on top here.
He tied Jim Rice and Manny Ramirez for the most
multi-homer games in a season in Red Sox history.
The stats are astounding on the season for Tyler O'Neill.
30 homers, only 59 runs driven.
in, which is nuts.
Who cares about that? He's got an 897 OPS on the year, 144 OPS plus.
And you know he's sick with the fits, Jake.
That's our Corona Extra player at the app.
Cheers to everyone and Tyler O'Neill especially.
Corona Extra who loves the game beyond the scoreboard.

imported by Crown in Portugal, Illinois.
There's a link to find Corona if you can't find it.
Also, just DMBD.
Yeah?
DMBD, and also...
DMBD, why he only has 59 runs vivid in
with 30 homers.
Yeah.
That's nuts.
That's nuts.
It's hard to do.
That must mean that he's got 20-something solo shots.
Nobody on base.
We'll get R&D on that.
Trev, great job.
The best segment of the show followed by the worst.
Luckily, it's a short one.
Man, we never laugh at an injury.
Anthony Rendon, back to the aisle.
That's mind-boggling.
Ben Joyce, don't like that.
Hitting 105.
DJ LaMayhew for the Yanks,
probably out for the 6th.
season. Might be funny business, might not be. Rinaldo Lopez and the Braves injury luck.
Initial test came back clear, but we'll see on that. Luis Castillo for the Mariners.
Didn't know about that one. Sad. Kind of sad. I think he'll be back.
Returning from the aisle is what we like. John Birdie, some Yankees death. Sure. Brewster
Gratterol. Hello, friend. Yoshinobu Yamamoto. We talked about that. Lance Lynn.
with five good innings.
And Manny Margoe for the twins?
Coach Ballgame's favorite player is back.
That's big.
That's big.
It was a Tide IL, which means we get to start off everyone's weekend.

Trev, let's hear it, baby.
My award, first of all, shout out Kels.
We'll see her next week.
Very excited about that.
My award is called Play It Cool Award.
Now, use that phrase in instances
where you don't want people to know what you're thinking.
You don't want them to know that you're excited about something.
Yeah, play it cool.
Play it cool, Daddy-O.
I feel like you live there, bro.
You're always excited, but you always got to tone it down a little bit.
Don it down, Daddy-o.
Play it cool.
Say Coleriggins.
Call-Rigons.
Nice start.
Looks good.
I got a pitcher in mind that I think that every opposing team should play it cool with,
but go absolutely get this guy.
I'm serious.
Let's try it.
and why don't you throw in this guy?
Yeah, you know, yeah.
You can get him, right?
I don't know.
Like, yeah, we'll take him, fine.
Whatever it is.
You can, like, fantasy football.
A lot of people play that.
Sure.
A lot of people that listen to this show play fantasy football.
The guy that you actually want, you never really mention.
I was like, yeah, you know, I don't really need this guy, but I guess I'll give you my guy,
you give me this, whatever it is.
You got to play it cool in these acquisitions.
Okay.
I'm actually a bad negotiator.
Like, Olivia, like she negotiates.
everything for me. Like better pricing. Like I just like yeah I'll pay whatever whatever and she's just
like not about that life. So she's like she's been negotiating our relationship. I'm not. The guy that I
want every team to go after. A guy that's just had such an up and down career. And I know the
Angels fans are not going to like this because they don't like anything that I say about their team.
But he hasn't had like real success there. It's Redetmer's. Okay.
If you ever watch this guy pitch, he has no-hit stuff because guess what?
He threw a freaking no-hitter as a rookie.
So, like, he's got that feather in his cap, right?
But the most confusing thing is, why can't this guy be a front-of-the-rotation starter?
Because he obviously has that type of stuff.
But it fluctuates from year to year.
Now, yes, he walks too many people.
he's erratic with his location
but I think like this is stuff
that you can figure out with the guy
he's only
he just turned 25 years old
there's plenty of miles left on this guy
he's a left-handed pitcher
that like
again watch him pitch
and it'll shock you
at the swings that he will elicit
against him but it just
it doesn't work out whether it's the third time
through the order whatever it may be
like it just his overall numbers
Jake,
463.
Yeah.
In his time with the Angels,
he's got a 5, 6, 4 this year.
He was down in the minor leagues this year.
You know, he's come back.
He's made two really good starts.
Who were they against?
I just had it up.
Let me get that up.
Okay.
Oh, it was against the Dodgers
and then against my twins.
So against the Dodgers, you go six teams pitch,
10Ks, two earned runs.
Against the twins, six teams pitch,
20 runs, 8Ks.
Like he's got this stuff and he's seeming the like starting to find it I guess
but if you're some team in the off season of the Brewers like this is the guy
the thing that's really surprised me and I've watched this guy pitch a lot done the
games against when he's pitched against the twins and every time I see him I think the same
same thing like what's going on here each pitch if you go by run value over the last like
couple years has just completely flip-flop like it'll be good one year and then bad the
next and I don't understand how that that is like you know
need some consistency in his life.
In 2022, four seen fastballed a five run value.
Positive.
Things were looking good.
Last year, in 2023, I had negative 10.
This year a negative 5.
His curveball this year is at negative 11.
Last year is at positive 4.
Like, something is going on with his preparation, with his mechanics, mentally.
Something is going on where, like, he just can't find the consistency.
see, but this guy is like the ultimate diamond in the rough in the big weeks.
He's still, like I said, 25 years old.
He's still not even ARB eligible yet.
Making a league minimum this year.
Like, this is the guy that you go after.
If you're looking for starting pitching, you might have to give up.
Overpay for him is what I'll say.
Right.
I don't think the angels are shopping him.
Force their hand.
Force the hand.
Go overpay for this guy.
Put them in your system.
If you got a, if you got a system, a development system,
and that you think you could fix pitchers with,
this is the guy.
I don't know what's going on.
I want him to stay with the Angels.
I want him to have success.
But if they can't figure this guy out,
then I think a lot of other teams can.
Play cool.
Go get Redembers to the offsees.
Tough segment for Halo's fans,
but they'll probably agree that, yeah,
if the offseason comes
and we hear Redetmers to the Brewers,
redetmers to Tampa.
read Detmer's.
I mean, the one that was making me laugh in my head is like,
read Detmer's to Seattle.
Like going, why don't Seattle,
why don't Seattle start doing that?
Go, go trade one of your guys for three hitters and make Reed Detmer's good.
That, yeah, man, it's, uh, and dude, I know this guy's kind of not a part of the,
dude, him and Patrick Sandoval, both had really strong 22s.
Um, and both have, have not.
Since then.
Tough for Halo fans.
You think you got two young lefties
to pan in your rotation
for the next four or five years.
You do. You have them.
Right.
You have them.
You do have them.
I don't know.
Maybe, maybe, okay, on the flip side,
play it cool angels and go get a new pitching coach
or find somebody that can unlock
the clear potential that is here in Reed Denver's.
And maybe they have.
Two starts in.
Right.
Maybe we're back.
Good.
Maybe we're back.
I'm just saying, man, every time I see this guy pitch,
and you know I'm pretty good with this.
Like, I'll...
Yeah.
Louis Ortiz, Cater Montero.
You can see him.
Like, Reed Detmer says, like,
I don't think this is like a far-fetched thing.
No, no.
Because, I mean, he's had the stuff in games.
I mean, you know, no hitter, like you mentioned.
And yeah, some of the swinging misses,
you're absolutely right.
Like, you're...
For Blake's Snellish.
Yes, it's very much...
If you're what...
watching the game, you're like, wait, why is, why is that guy swinging at that?
But it's what you talked about with your boy Kider.
Him and Snell have the stuff that looks like a strike for every hitter in MLB baseball.
And then it's in the dirt.
Makes them tough.
Let's see.
Tap into him, Angels.
Trev, great stuff.
I'm also on the West Coast today.
I didn't, I didn't know this.
that both of us are.
I'm giving out that I can buy myself Flowers Award.
A, I know you like that song.
I love that song.
That gets you vibe in a little bit.
Miley's my number one.
Miley, uh, electric.
Her energy is tough to match.
Jazz Chisholm.
Trev, we, you know, we give out.
That'd be an electric couple.
He's too young.
I don't know.
Uh, we do the all J.M. team, the most prestigious awarding
in baseball pretty much.
And man, oh man.
Salvador Perez behind the dish this year.
Big Sal, we talked about this episode.
Four for four in one game.
He's electric.
Treve, he's been playing a lot of first base,
a lot of DH,
Freddie Furmeen, been hopping behind the dish.
The good people of Seattle,
come back to me.
Cal Rally, big dumper.
30th Homer on the year.
He's been hot recently.
The 12th catcher ever to have two 30 homer seasons?
What?
One of eight players in franchise history with multiple 30 homer seasons.
Griffey Arod, Nelson Cruz, Jay Buehner, Brett Boone, Richie Sexton, Kyle Seeger, and Cal Rally.
Big Dumber.
Behind the dish.
Switch hitting.
now he is weak against lefties, and that's okay.
We know that, but that means he's stronger versus righties.
A 775 OPS versus righties this year, which again,
I know that doesn't jump off the page, but for catchers, that's pretty good.
4.2B war.
Cal Raleigh might be buying himself some flowers or maybe a pedal
because I think he's coming for that best a L. catcher spot,
a little bit of circumstance around it, but he's,
He's an awesome watch.
I love Big Dumpur.
A couple of his offensive numbers earlier in the year were kind of like,
but with him picking it up recently,
I think he might get my vote coming up.
We'll see.
Yeah, no, he swings big, hits big.
I think that's the knock against him as he chases, he whiffs,
but he also barrels 96 percentile and barrel percentage.
Also a great framer.
He's been throwing guys out, which is good.
So he gets a little prowess for the defense.
there as well. We love
them. We love them. I hope he does
come to sneak this September 1 because really, if we're being
honest, the only
All-JM award that truly
matters is September.
Right.
It's all that really matters. I'll get it in
September. That's all they remember.
That's what shows up.
On the baseball reference. We remember.
Babes hit that music. Let's be
tight about it.
Stimulator
season is bad.
on. Let's start out in the National League. Yeah, sure. Why not? I just clicked away from the postseason bracket.
Good job being quick, Jake. Okay, as of today, let's start with the new people at the dance.
The New York Mets would take a quick flight to Milwaukee for three.
Ooh, Mets. The Mets, the Mets, the Mets, the Mets, the Mets. They're high.
And a reminder, this series keeps flip-flopping.
As of today, Arizona would host the San Diego Padres.
Padres.
Who!
Pitching.
That means the Dodgers and the Mets, New York, L.A.
It's the Mets.
Ho!
Ho! Ho!
Phillies!
They're going to face San Diego.
Wow.
Oh, Phillies.
Shelfie Cohen, Phillies went out.
Phillies in the Mets for a chance to go to the World Series?
That'd be a hot, it'd be a hot series.
It'd be a hot series.
And it's the Phillies.
It would be the Phillies.
I mean, Jesse Winker, though, in that series?
Are you kidding me?
Winker and Castellanos?
Each of them win one.
The Please Bang My Wife Series.
In the ALE.L.
Houston, host Minnesota,
The Twins for three.
Houston.
Houston beats the twins.
Sorry, Trev.
The Orioles post Kansas City.
Kansas City.
Wow.
Wow.
Strong pitching.
Yankees.
Face Kansas City.
We just saw this.
Yankees.
Okay.
The Cleveland Guard Dogs play the Houston Astros.
Houston.
Yeah.
So that means the Houston Astros and the New York Yankees are going to tee it up again.
Yankees.
Whoa!
Oh, yeah, right.
Whoa.
I just put it in.
New York Yankees
versus the Philadelphia Phillies,
your World Series winner.
The Phillies.
Congrats to the fighting Phillies.
The top alpha dogs.
Thank you to my alpha dog,
Trevor Goof.
Everyone, enjoy your weekend.
Watch some ball.
Watch some sports.
Enjoy some nice weather.
My God.
Touch grass.
For love of the game.
Thanks, everyone.
Chick sucks.
Oh, man.
I got something to tell you after the show.
Okay.
Excited.
Hopefully, Beams, I'll leak it on the internet again.
