Well, I was going to say I don't know what happened, but God, I do know what happened in that Cub series. Coach Trev, how are you?

Chili and Calabasi, huh? Yeah, we're going through a week. here where it's like in the 70s, which, you know, end of June into July shouldn't really be that way. So I'm happy because some of those, some of those really hot days get to me. But yeah, breaking news this morning. We're going to talk. You kind of like ruined some stuff I was going to do later in the show already. Ruined? I don't know if you ruined it. But hey, man, let the people be surprised. Okay. Okay. Yeah, I mean, look, lots of good baseball. I can't wait to talk about my award because I think

you're going to be like, oh, yeah, this is. I'm interested to see how you feel about it. Okay. So that's some foreshadowing. Yeah, I like that. That's how you keep my twins freaking got swept by the daughters. Not happy. Oh, yeah.

That was one of the NL powers. The Brewers did that as well. Yeah. And because it is Friday, we are going to start with the National League. But the other NL power got swept. The Atlanta Braves get swept by Sandy, Fernando and Machado showed up in a big way Mike King with a seven inning clean outing and Mani Machado's home are the only run on the night that led into a Mani

Machado walk-up Samad Taylor Taylor gang and J.P. Sears with the spot star and he's going to get another one because they're looking for innings tie France with the big game San Diego sweeps Atlanta. They've been treading, uh, tread in water, yeah. Uh, and this is a big series win for them, braves. We'll talk about it. Phillies take three out of four from the nationals after Foster the people. Foster Griffin with his pumped up kicks.

Nasty in game one, Curtis Mead. But it's Phillies the rest of the way. An eight run ninth inning helped open it up. Derek Hill, two outs, two strikes in the ninth, and he goes Big Fly. Philly saved themselves a couple times late in this series, and then in the final game, Christopher Sanchez, Philly's offense, they take three out of four. The Cubbies, they brought the mop to flushing, and they brought the axe. Tough, man.

Carlos Mendoza fired. Dansby Swanson's, very good day. Was that 11 RBI? Holy smokes. Double header day. Cubs end up winning all four games. They survived their pitching injuries. And the final game, they win in extras.

PCA, and people might forget, former MET, kind of, Mets farmhand. We've got Keith Hernandez talking about it. The Brewers, sweep the Cincinnati Reds, because this is every Brewer's Reds, seen in the history of this show. A 2-1 extra inning game. Yep. Two-nothing game. Yep. One-run final game. 6-5. William Contreras and Jake Bowers, back-to-back homers in that one. You know Andrew Vaughn got involved. Ah, Cincinnati, I've got a fun stat about them. That's how you keep

them coming, Trev. Dodgers swept the twins. You already heard about that. It all ended with Jovers' show. Uh, Dalton rushing. Chris Roe. is commenting on social media about it. Mookie Betts, 300 career homers. Los Angeles had 17 hits in that second. Okay. The Diamondbacks take two out of three from the St. Louis Cardinals after they won the first game.

Andre Palante, how's your bounce back season? But then it snakes the rest of the way. A crazy ninth inning in that second game. Scoreless into the ninth in a four-three final as the snakes get it. Tomorrow. Oh, I kind of had it that time. Snakes get the series. The Marlins take two out of three from the Texas Rangers.

And I don't know. It felt obvious to me, which feels sad. Sandy Alcantara with the most strikeouts in Marlins' history, did you know? As he gets the win in that second game, Owen, Casey has been hot lately. And then they outlast to Grom Otto Lopez. Very good. Marlins, they get the series. final series.

Two of the worst teams in baseball. The Boston Red Sox and the Colorado Rockies. The Rockies take two out of three in that final game. Oh my God. If you want to listen to some broadcasting anger, listen to the Red Sox watching Marcelo Mayer kind of blow the game. He admits it. They turned to double play with two out.

Really, really. bat. Rockies take two out of three. That's what happened in the nationally. I just did the standings part of the show, but you mentioned this is every single Reds game

against the Brewer. So I was like, you know what? I feel like the Reds never beat the Brewers. They don't. And so I went back and just did some quick math. And my pen didn't work, so I'm just reading indentations on this paper. Jesus. Here we go. Since the last,

since the COVID year, so the last five full seasons of baseball. They're 27 and 53 against the Brewer. So that's not going to get it done against one of your division rivals. I do have the rest of the standings though. Yeah, sorry Reds fans, but... Holy schnikes.

I have a worse update for them coming up. So go on. Hey, don't look now. Okay. Them Phillies. Yeah, man. And LEs, they come in. Bryce Harper,

did some strange things. Love you, Bryce. Strange guy. But he did say, we're coming. Strange guy. And it's true. The Braves, 48 and 31 after getting swept. The Phillies mop, 45 and 36, all of a sudden, it's a four-game lead. Crazy. Four banners for rotten. Four game lead in the east for the Braves. The fish, playing good ball right now. 42 and 39 for them, 41 and 41 for the Nats, and then the New York Mets. Jolly Olive, 34 and 47 in the Central. 49 and 29, 20 games over for the Brewer,

six and a half games behind them are the Chicago Cubs at 44 and 37. St. Louis keeps winning, 42 and 36 for them. Seven games back in that division, probably over for being honest. Brewers just don't lose like that. Pirates, 41 and 40, and then the aforementioned Cincinnati Reds, 37 and 42. And then out west, the dollar. The Dodgers best record in baseball.

They don't even have half their team. They just don't, I don't know, man. 52 and 29, nine games up on the Padres, who are 42 and 37, 41 and 39 for your snakes, Dalton snakes, Taylor Jackson's snakes, Tori the Bellows snakes. And then the Giants in the Rockies, 34 and 47, 33 and 47 for the Giants and 32 and 49 for the rocks. In the wild card in the National League, the Phillies have the first spot. The Cubs have the second spot. The Cardinals have the third spot, and then right behind them, Padres half game out.

They fired Carlos Mendoza. Trev, we, I feel like you and I sometimes struggle, struggle with the manager stuff, because it's, A, like, what, I don't know, if the Mets don't get, if they don't lose last night in extras, is Mendi still fired? And this had been rumored for a while now.

So I guess, where do you, where do you land on it? Again, I want to preface this. by saying, I've never met Carlos Mendoza. I've never been in the clubhouse with him. So, like, this is all just kind of me, what I've seen on screen or read. And, you know, obviously I take into account other people and what they say. But I feel like there was not a lot of accountability in the Mets organization.

I don't know if I ever remember him kind of getting on guys, kind of in the dugout or through the media. I'm not a huge fan of that all the time, but there are certain times where you've got to kind of go after your team and make them feel accountable. And just, I don't know, this, obviously there's some good times in his tenure. A few. There's some big comeback.

What was it, 2024, big comeback at the end of the year. Like, there's some good times. And LCS. But right now, it's just so bad. The expectations were so high. And, yeah, did you? I mean, they haven't had their. full team all year.

But it's just gone so poorly that I think this, it almost had to have happened. And we saw it already with a couple different guys at the beginning of the year on different teams. And that's why I think you said this one seems like a long time coming. But was I shocked at all with this news? I mean, your team just got mopped. At home, you made six sayers in a game. No, I'm not surprised at all.

Yeah, it got out of control. I mean, the stadium this weekend. And I've a fun one about that. Rob knows because Rob was there. Man, I think it's funny going back to, because originally it was the Mets and the Phillies and it was like, whoa, these two teams that we expected to be powers, it's getting ugly quick.

Are one of them going to hit the bus? And if we had to place a bet on it, fanatics, if we were going to place a bet on it, we probably would have said the Mets. Like Rob Thompson and what the Phillies have been and like what they've been through together, that Mendi, you're right. Like they go on that NLCS run that kind of came out of nowhere.

And when he was originally hired, everyone was kind of wondering, like, is he the guy before the guy? Because the Mets said they were going to operate differently. And it wasn't the flashiest name. What, we were still waiting for the Stearns and the Mets. Yes, Trev. Question, sorry.

The Mendie come after Carlos Beltran was not allowed to be the manager? Um. Is that when he showed up? I've got to double check the timeline. I don't think so. I think that's earlier. Beltran was hired after the 2020 season. So, um.

Then who was next? So Buck Showalter. Oh my God. Yes. Dude, baseball happens so fast, bro. They, so they went, wow, wow. So is Mickey Calloway? Okay, let's do this is fun.

Okay, so Buck Shoal Walter. Terry Collins, 2011 to 2017. Mickey Calloway. And remember how much of a fiasco that was when everyone was finding out who Mickey Callow was? shirts off. Did he start tarps off? I don't think he started tarps off. I think he started some else.

Luis Rojas then takes over. I forgot about Luis Rojas. And that was when Brody Van Wagnan was their GM. 2020, 2020, 2021. Buck Show Walter for two years, 22 and 23. 22, 100 win team. The next year they fell off. and then Carlos Mendoza, 24 through 2026.

So, yeah, I guess I'm a little surprised it didn't happen earlier. I wonder, like, again, because we've been doing this dance for a while now. Like, you know, the four-game mopping puts it over the edge. If they didn't lose that final game, does it do it? I don't know. And again, I kind of want to check with Rob on this. So Wednesday night, we're recording talking Yanks late in here. And we hear a little bit of commotion in the office.

office. It's like 1130. And it's like, oh, hey, who's here? Justin Penick pokes his head in, you know, known football guy, a sports man. And he came over. We have a firm handshake every time I see him. And he's like, I'll tell you what, I've never seen that before. The stadium turned on the Mets. They're chanting Pete Alonzo. Marcus Simeon Day. And he has three air. errors. Like, again, some things, you can't point at Mendi for any of that, really, but things had gotten so out of hand that you got to, you got to clean the sheets. And that's, that's what they did. It was kind of crazy. It was crazy. I mean, the amount of people just booing right away.

And it was Francisco Lindor's first game back. Right. First ball that he got hit, he booed. Yeah. It was right away. It was just bad. The only thing that I have a parallel to, and I highlight some New York sports, and these sports fans, there's some that probably feel it. You'll see why in a second.

I was at the butt fumble, and that game was an emotion I've never felt in a stadium before. It was Thanksgiving, the Jets fans ready to turn on their team, and it ended with the butt fumble. And the feeling in that stadium felt like what I saw from the Mets. So yeah, it happened.

Move on. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I keep forgetting that Mets fans are also Jets fans, typically. Yeah, man. That's, it's like not fun when your sports teams are bad, like bad bad. Correct.

And so that kind of puts you in a bad spot, like, immediately just, you know, that's your escape and your escape is bad. Okay. The Cubs played well. So that they needed. Hey, the Cubs needed a series like this. Maybe they needed this medicine of the New York Mets. And they, I mean, look, yes, they, they did it. They are held together by what's a good word for that. That's my favorite.

Okay, that play right there. I don't think that was even ruled in there, was that? No, that was ruled a triple. I just, if there's like a side angle of it where I don't, his arms aren't even up and I don't know what the effort was right there. Trev, his arms aren't up. and he's not looking at the baseball. Yeah.

Which is like 0 for 2 on how to catch a baseball. Yeah, it was really strange. I didn't really understand what was going on when I first saw it. It's like, yeah, I don't know. I don't know. Anyway, yeah, Go Cubs Go. The offense comes out. Dansby has 15 runs driven in in a 24-hour period,

which is just incredible. But now, yeah, the pitching staff needs some help. They actually went to these guys and got David Peterson because they need a warm body. And a lot of people are saying, well, yeah, his, the ERA, not good with David Peterson, but he's going to get better because of the infield he has. The FIP is much lower than the ERA.

So we'll see if that happens. But I said, the Cubs really needed this one. Yeah, and Dansby's getting hot for them. An 11 RBI day will do that. That's a Cubs record. PCA is having a historic. month. You know, we've got a couple, four or five days left in June. I think the only players that have had better June's than PCA are guys from like before 1950. It's like Ruth. It's all the

best names to ever play. That's how good he has been this month. And Dansby, it's kind of funny. If I had told Cubs fans, hey, halfway point of the season, Dansby's going to have 2.3 war. Would you take it? And they'd be like, yeah, sure. A lot of that comes. from one game. He's still on the interstate $199. But he was in the bad place for a while that if he kicks into gear, that changes that makes the Cubs line up so much longer.

And what he provides on defense, like Cubs really needed this and I wonder how much they can build on it. Or are we going to look back after this week and be like, well, they played a Mets team that just fired their manager. 7 and 0 against the Mets this year. talk about the bottom of the order that's like my new thing

I used to be like hey let me see your starting bottom of the order guy let me see your starting pitchers now I'm like do you have three automatic outs at the bottom of your line up because I'm out on you if you are and you just can't win baseball games like that you can't it's like when you win baseball games the bottom of the order is doing damage and I feel like it didn't really used to be that

way like yeah you wanted to have success at the bottom but like those guys could also move runners over do all this I just think the top half of the lineups aren't as good as they used to be because it's just harder to hit. So, like, you need some help down there in that game three, the second game of the double header. Swanson, Ramirez, Nico, and Carson Kelly go 10 for 20 with seven runs driven. So yes, that's the recipe there. I thought I had something else. I was looking up. You mentioned 20 or excuse me, June months.

That's my famous months. I'm going back to look at what I did. Yes. Yes. 1.126. I'm not on the, on the list. You're not on there because if I remember correctly, I think PCA's around a 1-5 banger. Yeah. I mean, I made a career off of that month, and PCA just, he doesn't need that. You don't need that PCA. No, man, because he's got 5.1B war right now. That's crazy. We're at the halfway point. That's crazy. And this is a guy that, you know, people are, people were wondering, like, why do we run to defend PCA? and not Dalton rushing. Well,

look what's going on. And this guy's, this guy has an argument for top three player in the sport. He's, I mean, you know what he's doing. Yeah. It's just,

all right. You know what he's doing. I know. But hitting righties and lefties. He's getting on base. Like that felt like that was going to be his flaw. He's playing out of his mind. 1322 OPS this month,

10 homers. plays pretty good defense. Cubbies, let's see if they continue it, or let's see if that was hashtag Los Metz. Luke Weaver, 20 consecutive scoreless outings. Where will he be pitching come August? Yeah, this could be the fire sale. I'm afraid for all to everybody.

This is the announcement. I mean, dude, we actually, Trev, did we do this? You told me on Monday the Mets were dead. And I kind of hadn't processed that yet. Yeah. Oh, shoot. I mean, I hope I didn't do it. I don't mean to do it.

I don't want any Mets fans mad at me. But here's a thing. When I said that, they're like, yeah, dude. Yeah. No, I was the one behind. I was like, I don't know if they get one more heater. Because we kept doing a thing like once they get healthy and Lindor's back. Uh-uh.

Well, then Soto went out. Yeah. Tough. Well, hey, Cubs are missing five of their top seven starting pitchers. So let's see what's next for both of them. Let's jump back to the top. and I guess because that was a big topic. We got a speed run a little bit.

The Padres sweep the Braves. Another team, I mean, the Padres and the Cubbies were kind of, oh, they're going to be powers this season. And then they slowly and steady, faded. Huge series for San Diego. I'm going to talk, my king, my king in a little bit. Machado shows up in a big way. Your guy, Thai France.

Massive, massive for San Diego. They needed this. I would say my takeaway here is, this is what you'd expect like at the beginning of the season this is what i would expect a podre series to feel like not necessarily a sweep of the braves but you get a michael king jem machado homer great boom second game tautis hits a homer uh you know samad taylor does his thing um and then you get like a bullpen game awesome that seems right like this is what you'd expect like for all we've talked crap about the podres and the lack of offense and where where are they're starting

pitchers. I mean, like, they're still firmly in this. You know, the division's gone, half a game out of the wild card right now. And I feel like, yeah, they obviously haven't played their best baseball. I do think overall in the season, they are still going to have to find some pitching. You mentioned J.P. Sears. Sick. Love that for him. But I think that's going to be a huge topic of discussion for a lot of different teams with the Padres. I mean, they definitely need some help there. So again, I think great for them. The Braves, I think you just chalk it up today. It's a series on the West Coast. Let's get back and figure it out. Yeah, and Samad Taylor, man, we've mentioned him a few times, but he's been hitting 379 since he's come over to the Padres.

And really sparking things, six steals like bunting. I know, I know sometimes we get too hung up on that, but Stammon's talking about it. Like that changed to the lineup and putting pressure on the defense. That's the bottom of the lineup and putting pressure on the defense are two things that I don't know if we know the proper ways how to track it. Like, Trev, the speech you just gave about the bottom of the lineup needing to contribute. A friend of mine operates online as John Boy. He has been on a goddamn war path about that because it's been it's been the Yankees like Achilles heel. Like the Yankees, bottom of the line. lineup has been, when the Yankees have played well this year, the bottom of the lineup

contributes and it's guys moving, even if you're moving guys over and like contributing. Like you said, when you have those goose eggs, it just really stings the whole game. Yeah, Fernando homering. That matters. What else, Trump? I think we shortchanged the Braves struggles a little bit. 10 to the last 13, 432 OPS with runners in scoring position in those past 13 games.

So I think what I said still rings true like rough patch for the Bays, but the problem is the Phillies are hard charging. Yeah, and that's a Drake Baldwin is kind of at the center of that. He's in a one for 31. Their offense kind of has fallen off. You can basically mark it since he went out. And, you know, as you've mentioned,

a good hitting catcher as a cheat code. Yeah, it comes for every team. It's coming for the Braves right now, and let's see how they can get out of it. Bobby New Graphics Alert, who do the Braves have coming up? Atlanta has the Giants, who they just had a punchy series,

but that might be the best thing. And then St. Louis and the Mets, okay. So they should be able to grind. Well, let's find out. Speaking of grind, the Philadelphia Phillies, The Nationals, I said take the over in every game. Oh, you would have done fine. I don't think you would have won money.

It's because Foster Griffin dropped it in game one. How do you like that? Treb, the story is the Phillies. As much as we love this Nationals team and they keep hanging around in the mix, the Phillies have gone and we just did our power rankings. Like the Phillies have fully entered the, we are the team you thought we were before the season. Like, yes, we got off to that horrid start.

We're going to pointing to the new manager, so funny. It is Don Mattingly, who's, you know, an absolute legend of the game. But, man, they, a couple two out ninth inning big swings in this one that, like, you start feeling that baseball special feeling. The Phillies are full blown here. This is a tough one for the Nationals because obviously you're looking up at the Phillies and like, okay, like if we want to compete, we got to be able to beat teams like this, and they could have won the first three games.

Yeah. one of the first three games of this series. Brad Lord, home, he's been great. He's been great for the National. It's one of the only relievers that have really done anything. He gets up the homerst to Brandon Marsh,

which was a freaking bomb. And you see the ones from Stott right here. And then the next, next night, one strike away on Swarber, huge at bat from him. And then our guy, Love, Lady,

leaves one down. Dick leaves one down the dick. Oh. to Derek Hill on a one-two pitch and he takes advantage of that too. So I guess like, hey, Philly's great job battling and battling and battling. Talk about the bottom of the lineup

coming through here. But yeah, I mean, this could have been a freaking awesome series for the nationals, man. It's what I talked about when the White Sox went out and got Sir Anthony Mingas. What did I say? You've got to win the games you can win.

Like when you're up, you got to win those games. Bullpins are so important to the young rebuilding teams and they just don't have it right now, man. It's cost them a ton of games. Obviously, we know what the offense is capable of. They're still, I believe,

still leading the league and runs per game over five. And just when you lose games like that, it just hurts, man. Yeah. You're having fun. Like, dude, like, our guy freaking Jorbit. Yeah, big home run from Jorbit. And like, you know, you're watching that game.

It's first and second. with nobody out bottom of the lineup, you're like, is he going to bunt? No, he gets a freaking three-run jack and Luis Garcia Jr's. Like, I think he homered, yeah, three straight games.

Like, it's so fun. Like, you're stoked. They're doing everything they can. And then, yeah, you get the bullpen malfunctions. It's just, it hurts. Yeah, that's, it's interesting, Trev. This Nationals team that's at 500, which, by the way, in the AL would still make you a powerhouse team,

The most blown saves 24. No other team has 16. So, like, yes, this Nats bullpen, where could they be with a couple more guys back there? And yeah, again, if you don't, the Phillies became the first team in MLB history to win two straight games after being down to their last strike with the base is empty. So, like, genuine historic comebacks from Phillies that have them walking tall. Harper, weird TikToks. Is he still doing those?

Why? So, okay, I know they were like, you know, jeering him and Trey Turner, and he wasn't happy about that. He did the ring finger, which obviously is not, like, that doesn't make sense, right? But I think he did it because it's like he didn't want to flip him off. Right. But here's, I did flip you off, but with my ring finger,

but then you're like, dude, you got to think that through a little bit because they obviously won the ring right after you left. That's tough. you know, tapping into pitchers, run prevention on defense, bottom of the lineup, contributing. Like, those things that we've been highlighting, I think the Brewers are probably the best team at maybe all three of those. And the Reds have an argument that they're the worst team in almost all three of those. And that's the difference because the Red's talent, it's there outside of the bullpen, scary bullpen. We touted the starting pitching staff. And I don't know.

At some point I'm sure I said this is one of the most complete rotations in all the baseball coming into the season because it is. Or it can be. Yeah. But it isn't. that makes sense. Yeah. Right now, you know, the stats that all go to, you know, quick snapshot of the season, 24th and OPS.

Pretty important stat right there. 22nd and runs if you want to go there. Whip, which means you let people on base. The starting pitchers are 26 in baseball. The relievers are 28th in baseball. Never been a two-way guy really have success in the big league, so we didn't think maybe he was going to. But, like, he had the chance to. Right. I mean, people definitely did.

A ton of energy. So good. I'll take it to the snakes,

Cardinals. I know we got to chew through this quick. Huge series for the snakes. I think they have a chance, man. This is a good baseball team when they do get from production from the bottom of the order, which they kind of did. I mean, Tommy Troy's kind of a guy. He had a massive bomb in that first game.

You're right. A tank job. More pop than you think. When you said that last episode, I was like, what do we got Tommy Troy? And you're right. More pop than I thought. Yeah, yeah.

I mean, we talked about this team a lot. Erod, another great start here. And then I think what I wanted to mention about this one was because we're, you know, the managers are going to be a big topic on this episode with Mendoza. When Toro Lavello goes to take out Erod in the seventh inning, Erod kind of gives him like, ah, can I, come on, man. And then he just gives the ball up. That is a manager that has the respect of his ball club.

Like that guy. I'd want him to manage any of my teams. He's phenomenal. So I think he does deserve some credit because he has had to handle some stuff in that clubhouse. They could tell Marte rumors. When he comes out and addresses the media and says, I want to tell you something.

I just think that he is actually a big part of that culture they have there. And he's had to withstand some crazy years and crazy baseball games, as Dalton Philly likes to point out, they don't play regular baseball down there in the desert. there as an organization genuinely a different feel than any team I've come across I know people might be like well Jake yeah Jake snakes and they were doing all that stuff for you outside of that like I haven't been doing that stuff the past couple years there they feel like a family business that runs a baseball team and you mentioned talking to Luis Gonzalez and I think it starts with like hazing at the top it's just a trickle down effect through the whole organization Tori's a different kind of dude and like And like it's, you're right, that some stuff could have been louder down there. I'm super bummed, Treve. For them, I was getting excited for Corbyn Burns joining this team.

Because guess what? If you sort best ERA by 100 starts since 2020, that guy's very high on the list. That, like, I think he just got set back that maybe September. So I don't know. I do know Lou James Groover hit his first home run. We're rooting for that guy. because what a name. Hall of Fame name.

That's what this team does, putting pressure on the defense.

Rays split the set. Pirates take two out of three from Seattle. That first one, the Cole Young game, returns to Pittsburgh where he's from, hits the big two-run homer in the seventh. Mariners win that game, but they lose the next two because they only scored one run in each, because Braxton Ashcraft, your guy, Bubba Chandler, my guy? I don't know. It hasn't been this year, but the offense for the Pirates has been Brandon Lau with another homer,

Andy Rodriguez slapping it around. Why not? Pittsburgh wins the set. The Giants take two out of three from the A's, and if you like some dramatics, this had all of it. Jung Hu Li's catch in the corner to save the game. Rafi Devers, Big Fly. And we do have a new favorite player. His name's Victor Barracotto for what he's doing.

Homers, throwing guys out. A's, they rally late to salvage that final game on Tyler Maylee Day. Molly? and the final series, The Angels take two out of three from the Baltimore Orioles, and Swilly, our Angels fan, go follow her. She's amazing. She said that final game,

between the White Sox and Cleveland, 41 and 38 for Chicago, who leads on percentage points, and 42 and 39 for the guards. My twins falling back after that sweep, four and a half out, 38 and 44 for them. Tigers, 34 and 47, Royals, 34 and 48. And then out west, the Mariners, in first place with a 500 record, 41 and 41, 40 and 43 for my Astros, 39 and 42 for the A's, 39 and 42 for the West, all one and a half games out. That's going to be a lot of fun later on in the season.

you're playing with Vim and Vigour, Jake McCarthy's hair. The Boston Red Sox, Trevor, it is getting, it's a certain level of dark in the Commonwealth. I mean, you don't expect to lose the game with the Rallis Chapman on the hill, eight straight hits from them, seven straight singles before Jake McCarthy just hits one down the line, which was beautiful, by the way.

I don't know what Jaron Duran was doing out there in the field. That was an interesting way to go about it. But yeah, I mean, this is, I think this, if there wasn't already, like, the Red Sox, if they weren't dead already, this is the series that kills them. It was a, that Marcelo Mayer interview, again, like some credit to him. He wears it, Duran. Yeah, he has not had a good defensive year, but I think he's a hell of a defender, if that makes sense. Devers decides to tie the game. Then I got Barracota decides to hit the freaking walkout. So we had to change our lead a little bit for that. But that was a ton of fun. But yeah, I mean, I think it's a little, I did like,

okay, I always talk crap about Tony Vitello. And after the whole Devers, didn't want to come off for a base. That was good. whole situation. When he said, we told Devers, if you get on first base, we're going to wrap the run for you.

And then he goes and hits the Homer. I thought that was good. That was good. So, that makes me into Tony Vitello. So when I say, I, you know, I've, I've said my piece about him before, but that was, that was a good moment for him. And a good moment for the Giants. I don't know.

Outside of winning baseball, the Giants have been great entertainment. Yeah. Which I think that's been very frustrating for. Giants fans. I don't know. I still believe in Rafi Devers. I would love for him to have one of his Beast Mode months. But yeah, those games were electric and you're right.

Like there's been spurts of excellence and then some media mediocrisy as well. But the offense continues to go. And they just, yeah, the bullpen has been a rough spot. I thought I saw some talent out there, but it really just hasn't turned into results.

Your best pirate starting pitcher this year, Braxton Ashcraft. I mean, him and Skeen's toe to toe, but, you know, Braxton Ashcraft kind of got lost in like the, like Mitch Keller paved the way for these guys. Skeens comes up. He's the dude. Jared Jones and those eyes in that Velo. And then, like, Ashcraft was in the mix, but then everyone got excited for Bubba Chandler. Ashcraft's like, you've talked about it, but he's, he's a dude. And when I was watching him, you know I like funky pitchers. He's changing the timing of his delivery, slide stepping, a little bit higher pronounced sometimes. And I was like, I know I've seen that motion somewhere. I know I've seen that motion somewhere. And then I realized he throws like you on the blitzball and the warehouse. I mean, the similarities are uncan.

And like, I don't, I mean that with respect, you've gotten me out in a couple big situations in the warehouse. Look at that. Look at that front door cut piece. Okay. So there's some people that you should be horribly turned off right now and I get it. Although if you haven't watched our warehouse games yet, you're missing out. So whenever he is, it's amazing. 31 years old, signed the three-year $75 million contract this offseason, which would have been more, but there was some injury concerns with Mike King. And by the way, he's got opt-outs after each year.

So if my King, my King keeps it rolling, 16 starts, he's got a 333-ERA. He mows down the Atlanta Braves. And yet, when Mike King's on, man, he's one of the best X-access pitchers in our game. The way he can make the ball move. Himself, he kind of comes around from the side there. The way that ball comes in, when he's got his change-up working, his absolute filth, I don't know what you do with it. Fun guy, he had that electric post-season start.

How many strikeouts was it? In my head, it's 12. That was also against Atlanta. And I thought the bigger thing for me is this San Diego team that you and I was one of our bigger gaps when we did our power rankings, because in a way they don't deserve power. Like the offense has been horrifying. Their offense is last.

Wow, after this week's games, last in average on-base OPS and runs. It's got to get better, right? Right. Question mark. Samad Taylor? What? That's not Mike King. business. His business is being the starting pitcher, and his business is being the starting pitcher.

But there are some things that happen, everyone small and I'm like, this, this seems crazy. And I think this really sums up this year in baseball, Jake, because our last episode that we did on Wednesday was our power rankings episode, right? Yeah. And like, it's fun to do, but it's also just like, it's a fool's errand most of the time. You're trying to figure out what power

even means in this sense. And so we both kind of have different definitions. Sometimes we land. I think this one we kind of land all around each other. But one thing's for sure. You put that graphic out and we know we're just going to get yelled at. Everyone's going to tell us, what are you thinking? You don't know ball all this. Not this year. I have never seen a friendlier comment section on our power rankings post. And you know what they were all saying? Every single comment was like, my team's too high.

My team's too high. Everybody hates their freaking team right now in all of professional baseball. It's crazy. Everyone thinks their team stinks. I mentioned the Mariners. Mariners fans were way too high. Are you kidding me?

What do you? That's crazy. you can go up and down and nobody likes where their team is at. And then you go look at the standings, which you know I'm the standings guy. Every team is here. We can talk about the AL sucking this year,

but every team except for four, I mean, even the worst team in the AAL right now is five and a half games out of a wild card spot. Like they're all right there in the NL besides four teams. I mean, reds are five and a half. Other than that, Mets, Giants, and Rockies out. Okay, everybody else has a shot at the wild card this year.

So, like, initially I'm thinking, well, I didn't really love the extra playoff team. But now that we got 12, like, I don't know. I think it's, it's great. And, like, you might say it rewards mediocrisy. Okay, I don't know. My twins are 38 and 44. I'm still locked in on the season because they're one and a half teams out of the wild card. This is what it was meant to be.

and you can talk about, okay, what are the chances to really win a World Series? I don't know, but you get into the dance. Isn't that what front offices always say anyway? Get in the dance. We'll see what happens. October's a crap shoot. Everybody hates their freaking team. It was the nicest comment section we've ever had on there.

And I just think when I'm looking at the standings throughout the year, we kind of talk shit a lot about the American League and kind of the state of baseball now very top heavy, whatever it is. I don't know, man. like I think it's working right now and I'm I just like thought about that like I could not believe the people and how many people absolutely hate their teams but they're all still in it it's just a weird kind of juxtaposition of those two thought processes

hate my team but we're only a game and a half out of a playoff spot yeah kind of wild yeah it's um I've given my ALNL speech on it like I think the NL this year is going to be a beautiful version of the wild card like I I think I think we are going to have a stacked National League playoffs. I think that final team, you might have to be an 88, maybe a 90-win team, man, depending how these teams, like, load up at the deadline and start kicking, that you know how hard it is. If you win 90 games, you should probably be a playoff team.

Let's see how it actually sorts out. And the counter argument is literally in the ALE right now. And yeah, Trev, hey, I'm a spoiled Yankee fan. I admit that. I consume baseball in a different way. The Yankees' 20-23 season was hell, and they landed at 82-and-80. Again, they had a strong September that didn't matter,

so they were like an under-500 team when I cared. When you're kind of that around 500 and a little worse, man, it's frustrating. Because you're like, if we get 500, and then we get hot, and then we start going. So that's why all those fan bases aren't happy. That's why Seattle's pissed. That's why Houston, Toronto, Texas, Baltimore.

They're all staring at their team like, go. It's there for you. It's literally wide open and they're not going. So I'm glad that allowed us to get nice comments. If we did this about, if we recorded this episode four games ago, what are Cubs fans saying? Yeah. It's just a weird time for baseball right now,

but it's also like a lot of fun. Oh, yeah. By the way, the NL and Interleague play, 210 and 166. So they're leading by essentially 50 games. It matches the eye test. Tigers on another L3 right now. Insane.

I will say this, my final note on standing stuff, a team we didn't talk about a lot. The Cardinals, they lost their series. This was the first time I saw the Cardinals, and I was like, uh-oh. Like, I'm looking at the teams behind them, San Diego, the Marlins, the dimebacks, the pirates. Like, I, I don't know. They lost two games.

Maybe I'm overreacting. They're about to play Miami. So, hey, go handle your business right then. They've just been steady. They haven't had a crazy losing month. They haven't had a crazy winning month. They've just been steady. And that's a little bit of what makes me nervous because the game comes for everyone,

So good. They got Brandon Spro, but he hasn't been great this year. Maybe this will be the start for him. A guy who has been fantastic, Brandon Woodruff returned to the mound for the Milwaukee Brewers. And again, I say it here and there. And I'm like, hey, every time Brandon Woodruff gets mess. I thought he was going to get a big boy contract this offseason,

but, you know, he wanted to stay with Milwaukee, and he does have a big injury history, which is now the problem. Since 1900, only two pitchers have logged three career starts with one or no hits allowed, no walks, and 10-plus strikeouts.
