talk. Hopefully we get another, a historic award last episode from Trev. If you haven't listened to that, go back last week. Episode did big numbers. I think that's, I think that's the correlation. The Baltimore Orioles are a playoff team as of today, and I don't know how much time we've spent talking about them this year. So we're going to have to check in on that. I don't want to spoil anything else in the standings, but my goodness, what's going on in the American League. The two powers of the National League met up and had a little jaunt this weekend, the Brewers and the Dodgers. Let's dive in. And of course, American League Baseball starts with the Philadelphia Phillies. Because it was the Field of Dreams game, and they faced the mighty

twins, the mighty twins. And the Phillies busted out the broomsticks. Schwarber, born corn. He visited the fields twice with a little Keishel assist on Thursday. night and then the Phillies ran it the rest of the weekend. Bowman Stott. The two youngbloods that were supposed to fuel this Phillies dynasty, they have been bawling out. Brooks Lee did his best with a grand slam in the first inning of the final game, but the Phillies chip away, and there's Duran to close the door against his former mates. Phillies, get it done. The Chicago, is it sweep week? The White Sox bring out the broomsticks in Detroit. The tigers are clawing back in this season.

Oh, no. A little Vargas, a little Murakami. Big fly for big guys. The White Sox on the road. Sweep the Tigers, put them back in their place this season. The San Diego Padres, Fernando. They take two out of three against the guard dogs. They win that first game.

Bogart's with a big night at the office. The Guardians take that middle game holding in the one run. Joey Cantillo. of course, but then it's obviously Renhifo and cheats the rest of the way. Casey Mize gets his first win as a Padre. That might matter. They win another series. The Baltimore Orioles.

They take out the broomsticks against the Tampa Bay Rays. They win three games. I know, a little roll over. Chris Bassett, Braddish, Rogers, Jackson Holiday. That's changed. You know, he missed time to start this year. Big at bat by him helps spark. the offense. The Baltimore birds are here. Gunner with a four-for-four-four-day. Lead-off Pete.

Schwabber adjacent? That's a fun one. The New York Yankees. Lose the first two games to the Blue Jays felt like the same game. Three-one, four-one. Offense is doing nothing. Shout out to the Blue Jays, playing for their season. They were in the dance at one point. They lose that final game. Ben Rice and extras after almost blown it in the ninth inning. He's salvaged the set. Seattle Mariners and the Houston Astros and NL Best Battle. The Astros, they win the first one, 10 to 7 in 10. Christian Walker.

Don't hang it. He'll bang it, and that's what he did. But then at Seattle the rest of the weekend. Cole Young, Trev's Guy, with a big night at the office for a 10-5 win. And then rubber match, 3-2-3 solo homers. Dude, Randy a Roserina. He's about to have a nice free agency, I think. Seattle takes a set.

Royals and Angels play, did you know? Royals took the bread games. Treff says he knew. He was checking in because Jack Caglione is shoving. Reed Detmer's, Dominant, and Noah Cameron, with a complete game one-hit shutout on Getaway Day, 115 pitches. We love that.

We love that. And then your final, a Mini Rangers, what are we doing, guys? Because they drop two out of three to the athletes. athletics. Henry Bolte, put some respect on his name. He can fly. Carlos Cortez is all Storelli. So is Jacob Lopez. That's what happened. That's what happened in the American League. Nobody better pop. Little Noah Cameron, Reed Detmer's back-to-back. Leftie's doing it. Okay. The lefty.

Yeah, Dallas Brady surely love that. Always Dallas. I have the standings and they're a mess. It's the, fucking American League. What are we doing here? The entire league gets a what is you doing baby from me. Including those Tampa Bay Rays who are still leading the N or the AL East by five and a half games over your yanks 74 and 49 for them. Your yank 69 and 55. Boston cooled off a little bit here 66 and 58 sunny gray though nice start thought about giving him my standout not doing it though just so you know.

he was nasty. Baltimore 61 and 63. Toronto 61 and 65 in the Central. Huge series happened in Detroit. Chicago White Sox took care of business. Put their lead to five and a half over Detroit. 65 and 58 for the socks. 60 and 64 for Detroit.

60 and 65 for the guard dogs and my twins. And then the Royals, 51 and 74. Out west, another mess. 63 and 62 for the Astros. who have a two-game lead over the Texas Rangers who are 61 and 64. Who are you, Rangers? Who are you? We don't know.

They don't know. 59 and 66. I know who the Mariners are. I know. I wish they were something different, but they're not. 49 and 75 for the A's, 49 and 76 for the Angels. Great, grand, wonderful. Now let's talk about the freaking wild card, which is nuts.

Right now, your Yanks would have the first spot in it, followed by the Boston Red Sox. Good job, guys. You're playing good ball. You deserve those spots. The rest of this is ridiculous. The Baltimore Orioles now, as you mentioned before, Jake, have the third wildcard spot sitting at 61 and 63. Yes, that's two games under 500. They're in the playoffs. Behind them, this is a mess. The Rangers, half game back. Toronto, one game back. Detroit, one game back. Cleveland, one and a half games back. Minnesota. Again, these teams are 60 and 65, one and a half games back of a playoffs. But I can even even throw the Mariners in there. We're 59 and 66. So that's seven games under 500. I just did the math. How about that? There are two and a half games out of a playoff spot. Those are the

standings in the American League. And I'm about to throw up. It's disgusting. It's the best and the worst argument for the American League expanded wild card that you'll ever see because we've got every team cares except the Royals, athletics, and angels, which that was kind of the goal. The problem is what the numbers are actually saying. And yeah, I got mad at Seattle in the shower this morning because I was like, so wait, there are nine, there's nine teams in the central and the east that are better than the Seattle Mariners. It's only the Kansas City Royals. And they're two and a half games out, which is I, you know, one more standing spoiler. Sorry for everyone that waits for Trev to let those out. You know, I still like my Marlins and the

in the National League, and they're three games back of the wild card with one team ahead of them. So, like, I don't know. The American League, it's going to be a weird one that we probably referenced for a while of how much of a tragedy this turned into. And can't wait to see who steps up, because I, again, going back to the preseason, I love the Orioles offseason. Remember, they added war, they added Alonzo. It was like, yes, this young core in who these Orioles were supposed to.

They traded Adley away at the deadline. Taylor Ward, who was their big home run ad, they've been out of the picture they sold, and now here they are. So, Trev, I mean, of these American League series, let's kick off with your twins. Because I feel the Dreams game. It hits the court every year. You see the people coming out of the corn.

You see the legends. We might have had some references to this on Friday's episode, even though the game hadn't happened yet. I guess give me the twin side of it, and then I can give you some fills. I want to go back to what you said about Seattle. So you're in the shower. Boner, and then you start thinking about Seattle, Boner killer.

They get swept, I don't have to say. I was excited for Taj Bradley to kind of get a showcase, a national showcase, if you will, you know, against the Phillies. Okay, good team. Tosh is a great pitcher. What do we got? well he ends up

he ends up man like they go a day when they were saying the ball wasn't flying well ball was flying for the Phillies and they just handled us in front

of an entire Netflix audience so that was tough but you're like okay it's a weird weird game everyone's kind of you're flying in you're flying out

it's not a typical typical start day for Taj all these things you give them grace whatever it is and the Phillies just take care of business man uh

crush us in game two. Then the last game, we're at 5-0 Brooklyn, Brooksley-Homer. Cody Clemens, Brooksley Grand Slam, Cody Clemens, sweet Homer to add on. I don't know if you saw the bat flip and the catch. We're going to show it.

Rob's got it up. No big deal. And then the bullpen and the rest of the pitching staff decides to get up seven unanswered. And you're going to talk about a few of the guys on the Phillies that made it happen, but just a horrendous. horrendous series for my twins.

And, you know, Dean Kramer was looking great. He ends up getting touched up there at the end. So it's not a great time right now in Minnesota and Twins territory. Yeah, Bowman and Stott are playing out of their minds. And that's been a big topic of the deadline. It's a big topic of, I mean, the Phillies the past few years, which, yeah, a little teaser. I'm going to do more on that coming up.

And this was tough in that final game, that eighth inning, couple bleaters and a couple boppers down the right field line end up deciding that final game. You want to get mad at that, but that's, that really is a no man sland type of ball. But it's, if you're a twins fan, you're like, well, our defense has sucked. They have. A lot of guys out of position, like, you know, Royce is getting to no first base over there. He's actually played a fine first base, but he's all still learning the outfield or moving guys all over the place. So when something like that happens, just like, yep.

We understand. Yeah, and hey, I get the Bomer one hurts. Dela Cruz, 100 mile per hour fastball and chopping it down the line while they're shifting against you. Again, probably not what he was trying to do, but it works out. And I want to reward that. The Phillies have won five out of seven. And a little mini shout out, Andrew Painter. He gives up that grand slam in the first inning.

I think he's got the worst first inning ERA in baseball. And he settles in to give them five, which, as you're doing, bullpen. whether in this game where they come back, or if you're doing the trickle effect of saving four innings from the bullpen going forward after that horrid start. Yeah, twins 4 and 10 in the month of August. They're still very clearly in the wild card picture because everyone is. And I know tying this into more Orioles,

the Orioles in their last 10 to climb into that final wildcard spot, five and five. Yeah, yeah. Cheese and biscuits. I had one more thing. Louisa Rice and Yohan Duran having impacts in this series that also hurt.

A little twist of the knife. Yeah, Duran's shutting it out. I believe he got Bucksston out to end the game. In the Great Lakes. I saw some rookie homered and gave it, or maybe it wasn't a rookie. Someone gave the buck stop. I'll see if I can remember it as I go through our notes.

Yeah. On our team? No, no, no, no. I was watching the highlight. It was from yesterday's game. Someone homered and gave the buck stop. And I was like, hey, that's taken, pa. The American League Central.

I've been drinking the kitty litter just because I thought Detroit had the momentum. You look at the run differential. You look at where they were supposed to be. Is there like an effect of trading away scoble? And now they're running. That they're at home against the White Sox, who have felt a little less mighty in recent months, weeks, whatever it is. And then they came out, and with the AL Central, kind of on the line,

if Detroit comes in here and takes two out of three or wins the set, I think we're on full alert for the Tigers or whatever the Central could be the rest of the way. I started daydreaming the Tigers getting a buy in the first round of the playoffs, because whoever wins the West or the Central will. The White Sox really showed me something. And, yeah, a lot of Vargas and Mooney Takamur Akami, our guy, Colson Montgomery shows up Braden Montgomery in that first game

the White Sox showed out in a time when they needed to a little gut check game and we've seen them do that a couple times this year. Very impressive. Yeah, I mean going into Detroit with a chance I believe there was a chance that they got swept that they would be out of first place in the Central

and you end up going the opposite way we extend the lead up to five and a half we saw Benetendi with a nice left on left knock in game two watching Tristan Peters get the job done. Up and down the lineup, man. They can get you.

And then you're going to be talking a little bit more about the big boys at the top of the lineup. It is a well-rounded offensive effort from them. And how about in game one? You have Newcomb who is the opener. And who is the bulk guy? Jose or Kiti. Show me your cat.

Yeah, comes up. Not a great outing for him. But it's interesting to see him. do his thing uh but yeah i mean white socks are dangerous i've been saying it um chan burke not even a great outing they didn't really have great starting pitching this uh this game i mean yeah nobody really did anything here for them uh they've been kind of at the beginning of the year that was part of what was happening for them not this series it was all offense for the white socks and i did see in that last game game three uh drew anderson

starts it. Jacob Waggisbach comes in at the end. That is the 2018 Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs special right there. Wow. Two of my young guns that were under my way. Didn't get the job done, but good to see him.

Good to shout him out in that effort. Maybe more so Sean Newcomb, seven out save. You don't see a lot of those. I mean, he's filthy. He looks like Matt Thornton. Remember him? The old lefty, big boy.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. White Sox is a season high, seven games over 500, five and a half up on the Tigers after this set, and their road record, which one of their weaknesses to get this done out there mattered. And yeah, there's more Murakami and Miguel coming up. I want to jump one. Let me go to our Orioles and Ray's.

I jump the gun a little bit. They are doing a four-game wraparound series. They're playing one tonight. But the Orioles have taken the first three, The race coming off that 9-0 road trip. Come back. Ain't that baseball, Susan. Gunner and the clutch Dylan Beaver's showing up,

because that's all he knows in this great game. And then, yeah, I'm laughing at some of the peak quotes, just because I'm always going to be a sucker for that man. And I'm sucker for a team that I really love this offseason. I was buying stock in. They lost me kind of yet again. And now here they are in that final. spot in the American League playoffs.

Interesting stuff happening here. First of all, I'm rooting for the Orioles. I agree with you. They went and tried to make improvements in the offseason. It looked like it wasn't working out. You mentioned some of the trades. But here they are again. Chris Bassett, who looked like he walked off the mound of his minor league rehab start.

Here he is. So that was a little scare for him. But now he's back. That's nice to see because he had some sort of team opt. out on his contract. If he couldn't pitch, looks like he's going to be fine with that. But you mentioned it was a bunch of guys

for the Orioles again, like when you get length from your lineup, when you're getting Jackson Holiday getting those knocks, when you're getting Colton Kouser down there at the bottom hitting homers, he would have into the fish tank if they didn't have that freaking net over. Take the net off the fish tank. The raise will be fine.

Agree. Right? Maybe. I mean, I don't know. Actually, maybe we need it. One gets clubbed in its game over. over. Did a raid die or was this preventative? That's what I need to know. Where's our researcher Quinn? Figure it out, bro. You're in the big leagues now. I don't know, man. Tyler O'Neill doing his thing, again, just kind of up and down the lineup, which is what we wanted from this Orioles offense and to do it against the race, one in extra innings. So the bullpen is showing up for them. I mean,

hey, you put up a big seven, run six in that last game. So some comfort behind stuff. I don't know, a valiant effort from the Orioles. They're in a playoff spot. They're still under 500. Sometimes I don't know what to say about these teams, but you got the job done. Yeah, and hey, two things. One thing I believe in, I believe in with Stone,

one's a little more loosey-goosey Jake stuff. Gunner Henderson, man, we thought it was him and Bobby, remember? Like, it was, these guys are the future and that's it. hasn't been a lot of Gunner chatter. And it's because as of, what was it, two weeks ago, his OPS was at 684? 684 for Gunner. He has a massive game this series.

Over the last 11 games, he's got a 9-10 OPS. Okay, that matters. And I do think, okay, the Lucy Goosey part, because that's not very loosey-goosey, is just the spirit of like, Gunner, and I'm having a bad year, and our team's record is under 500, and we're not that good, blah, blah, blah,

to now, wait, we're a postseason team, and Gunner's starting to play better? That matters for Gunner. That matters to the dudes riding with Gunner. And Trev, I'll take another victory lap. Fred again, you don't know that reference. Pete Alonzo's stats. Are Pete Alonzo's stats?

851 OPS. He's a career 856. The big man plays every day. The big man hits homers. the big man drives and runs. And, dude, the Schwerber adjacent quotes are so funny to me because it's Pete kind of admitting, like, I'm not as good as Schwerber,

but it's like by a little bit. Like, the fact that think about how much we talk about athletes' confidence and stuff and, like, guys in the NBA being like, I'm better than that dude, or as we get ready for the NFL season, wide receivers and cornerbacks being like how much they're going to kill each other. Like, Pete Alonzo should think he's as good as Kyle Schwerber. That's how every athlete should think.

Not that far off. And I don't know. Lead off. Never let off in his life. Like going back to Little League. Because he's the polar bear. I would, I would like, Kyle's had some unbelievable years of last two years,

56 homers already up to 37 this year, OPS and the Nines. But prior to that, if you go 2015 to 24, 834 OPS, what's Pete's? A career 856. Yeah. I'll like be probably closer than you think big dog you can get hot toward the latter part of your career would love to see that yeah I mean look gunner you mentioned the OPS low and having a good week here maybe it ends it maybe ends the season he's hot in August falls it into September and the numbers maybe get to a decent point because he's still got time to do that he's got to go and but he's the type of player that can do that you know with baltimore we're talking about all their offensive weapons but go up and down the

pitching um what they did this this series i mean you got bass it goes five and a third two earn runs you got cow bradish goes six in these pitch two earn runs you got Trevor rogers goes six innings pitch two earn runs i mean that's what's going to keep these guys in game long enough for the offense to come around boom bang bam here we are shout out ryan valade who i still really Every time we talk about the raise, I'm like, this guy is a ball player. Yeah. And he's, for me, it's just big time Game of Thrones energy. Like, now that I'm catching up on House of Dragons, he feel, like, I'm only in season

one, but it feels like he's, he's the one that's sneaking babies in the future queen. And then going back to Calisi, like, who's, who, Dario? Like, he's got that same energy. They're cut from the same cloth. Do we have, like, is it a consensus that Searcy would have made a great? queen and we just we just turned her into a villain I definitely don't think that's the consensus

I think there's a take better than DeNaris yeah she really fell off hey Baltimore Birds if you want to dream Felix Batista eyeing a rehab Ryan Halsley

eyeing rehab that I'm glad you mentioned the pitching because they got 5.1 6 inning six innings all two earn runs which that gives you a chance to win every game. And dude, if they could get those guys like, as we're looking for that final AL team to win us over, it could be a Baltimore Bird's team. The problem is, it could be about 11 other teams as well. So let's see. Rays, get back on the road. Or take the net off. Take the net off the tank. Let's live dangerously out there. Trev, the rest of the AL, I guess we can be tight

with it while also acknowledging some significant stuff. Padres win is set over Cleveland. Cleveland is going to be one of the teams in the mix until the end of this. And it comes down to a rubber match and like I mentioned, Casey Meis, six innings, zero earn runs. And I guess Luis Renhifo, who is just, we thought it was going to be Brewer's devil magic for him, but here he is in San Diego

becoming a part of that lineup. Best record in Majority Baseball since July 24th, so almost a month of ball. Fernando. The fathers, yeah. Camposano. Yeah, again, I think

when we see teams get hot, it's because they're getting length in their lineup. Same thing happened in this series. I thought, you know, getting to Gavin Williams in game one was a huge, I mean, he's a great pitcher who can dominate the game, and instead you get Fernando,

115 and a half off the bat. You get Xander in that first game, reaches base all four times with the Homer. I mean, that's a great way to start a set against Cleveland. And then you get can'tioed fine, but then you come back and win game three, four solo shots, none of them kind of like your big time players. So you're getting again, the length of your lineup, Casey Myers with a nice start at the end of the series.

This is the San Diego team we've been hoping for. When they're good, they're so fun to watch, man. You got Cronerworth hit one out, didn't he? Sure did. Yeah, he did. man, Jace Bowen. Of course, Jay Spohen went up top.

Great catch by Jay Spohy too. Yeah, that was a nice catch out there. There's someone else had one. I think we haven't got there yet, but was it Tolbert? Sure.

Out there in Anaheim, nice catch. But anyways, let's go pods. I mean, what's their record? I know we haven't got to the NL yet. Spoilers. 67 and 58,

they're eight and two in their last 10. Holy James! Yeah. 6-0-1 in their last 7th series. They've got, well, they have the post-deadline Mets coming up, so maybe chalk that one as a loss. But then your twins, Pittsburgh.

Let's see. And Trev, not such a great note by you, but a great note. The best record, well, 29 and 17 in day games makes them the best day game team, which that just made me laugh because it's like, okay, is that even impressive? But, I mean, basically being the best team for a month, and record-wise, it's, you know, remember when Boston was undefeated for a month?

The offense is horrific. The pitching is outstanding that every game feels like a battle of just, it feels like every sixth inning, it's either zero, zero, or one-one. What's scaring Yankee fans is there's been some defensive and base running laps that have flashbacks to 24 or the last eight years of baseball. that it makes you nervy. It makes you nervy. And, dude, the judge news is starting to not get weirder,

but like you're looking at mid-September. And by the way, the season ends September 27th. So I don't know, belly is eyeing the end of next week. Stanton is still a mystery. The pitching has been amazing, although the bullpen still has some depth issues. So does every bullpen, I guess. But, like, I don't know.

Alejandro Kirk is back and being a present. Toronto believes Vladdy goes on the concussion I.L. And was there, Macadu steps in for him. And they're just, they're looking for sparks.

And they've got a couple different guys that can be that spark. Shane Bieber matches Garrett Cole in that first game. And as you mentioned, all 100 Kirk, just a couple big swings there with the struggling Yankee offense. That's all you need in game one. I like Charles McAdoo. He looks like a spark plug.

Overall numbers, not great, not a lot of time on the field, but every time I see him, he's doing something fun. Do this. Wack. Opposite field.

Love that. What else we got? Ben Rice, that was fun to see him come through. in game three for them. I mean, obviously the Yankees really needed that or else you're getting swept. He makes the air in the ninth,

then comes back in the 10th of the Homer. You got to love to see that. So I don't know. I too am very curious about your Yankees. This form of the Yankees will be interesting to see in the playoffs. With Aaron Judge back,

obviously they're a completely different team, but as you mentioned, If we're talking about the mid-September, you know, a rival for him. Like, what is, I don't know. I got to see, I got to see it. We keep waiting for it. And it's just Aaron Judge is Aaron Judge.

Facts. Okay. So you're going to expect him to put up those types of numbers. But he hasn't played baseball in a long time, man. Yeah. He's going to have to go on some rehab outings. He's going to have to test it out. That'll help him a lot.

Then you get to the big leagues and it's like, all right, you got two weeks to get. ready for the playoffs and if there's anyone that could do it it's Aaron Judge but yeah until we see it on the field it's just hard to I mean this entire American League is hard to handicap there's just no doubt right

because you talk about the race who have the best record in the American League they go 9 and no on a road trip to on the West Coast and they come back and they get swept by the the Orioles there isn't a clear cut favorite team in the American League and again we've done this exercise before how many

teams do you pass Or like, where do you rank the highest American League team in the power rankings? Is it sixth? It's around the top five. Like that's where you and I have landed with the raise or, again, there's a Yankee argument in there. Or even when the Red Sox were as hot as hot can be. Yeah. Yeah.

It's a weird, frustrating time. And then you're also like, okay, they are missing judge. but teams miss players but judge is a different different kind of cat Treve I think the last one to really touch on the Mariners in Houston whether it's a battle for the West whether it's a battle for that last wild card um exactly exactly that's kind of my thoughts as that final game comes down to a one-run game which decides a series hey Cal Raleigh homers and I know as Mariners are looking to change their fortunes.

They need that guy. The whole offense kind of lights up in that second game, so hopefully he could build off that. Man, I was wondering if that would be it for Seattle.

But like we said, this is a sick sport that we could look back at that Munoz walk off and be like, do you know the Mariners? that nine and one since that that game. But yeah, again, I think this is, this is more just about the brewers and how dang good they are. The Mizorowski versus Shohei stuff was great. Shohei gets them with the hopper over, I don't know who was playing first. There was Vaughn at the time over his head. And I think that was on a two strike pitch.

And then he comes up again, base is loaded. I was watching this one in the backyard at the house. and slider, fastball slider, and just completely toyed with Shohay. Because you got to be on the heat. I mean, he's throwing 102 at you. And Shohay was the first to bet. Finally,

got one down in the zone. But then this one, just mixing the pitches up, goes through Shohay and Freddie to get out of a basis load of jam. I mean, he's so fun to watch. He's so fun to watch.

It's, he's like the only starter right now that is you got to stop what you're doing. And there's other great starters in the game. Don't get me wrong, but this is, he's been the guy. Well, stop what you're doing for Logan Henderson, Dog, because he pitches in that final game, and the stuff ain't as flashy.

But what if I told you the Brewers have a 24-year-old pitcher who in 17 career starts has a 24-4 ERA, 108 strikeouts, an 88.2 innings? Pat Murphy, who will defend you to the death or also point at your biggest weaknesses. was talking about how, you know, all the deadline rumors, he was like, I, I didn't want to lose Logan. As long as he's healthy, he's going to pitch for a long time,

because he can actually pitch because he, yeah, he throws 94, but he's got a pitch mix, and he goes inside and outside. He's just fun, man. And yeah, he's Brewer's pitcher number 11 that we mention on this show. In the back end of their bullpen, it's filthy. They have options, whether it's you got Ashby, Uribe, McGill, D.L. Hall, there's another guy out there that's absolutely filthy too.

I forget who it was. But I mean, they're just, they're stacked, man. They're stacked. And the thing about the Brewers is, very rarely do they throw away games. Their defense keeps them in games. The back in the bullpen, I mentioned, keeps them in games. When they have the lead at the end, they can go like ultra

defensive arrangement, which they'll do quite often. And then they have those guys. So like, you have to go out and get the lead early. against them or else it's game over it really feels like when they have the lead going into the sixth seventh inning like they hold it i don't have the stats in front of me but of the brewers games we've watched this season and doing this show it's like they get a lead and they hold it they do not cough up leads at all but gill is i think near perfect uh at the back end there so they're

And this guy has great numbers in the minor leagues as well. So see if he is the spark that gets the Cardinals into it. Like, how cool would that be if you bring up a, and all of a sudden you go on this historic run, you get into the playoffs, I would love that for your cards, man. Yeah, hey, and whether it's this year, you start daydreaming for the future.

I mean, with that debut, you start daydreaming a lot of things between him, Jordan Walker, Weatherhole, all those guys on that Cardinal field, and maybe they keep dreaming this year. Because they are 63 and 61. Their playoff percentages don't look high. They're about to play five against Cincinnati,

which that could, that could potentially boost them. And then, yeah, as far as the Cubbies go, you know, I feel like in the trade deadline, we get so caught up in it because you have to, and it's a beautiful thing. As we're talking about some of these different teams and how well they're doing,

and, you know, even the NL Wildcard that's had its own kind of a prettier mess, like the Cups are 72 and 53. I mean, before that final game, there are 20 games over 500, which there's not a lot of teams in that class this season. I was reading something. Okay. Maybe it's the way we're doing lineups nowadays where it's like you have all like your best hitters hitting lead off essentially and that's changed the way that RBIs are kind of given out throughout a team. But like it's a very unique leaderboard because it's like not the typical guys

So it's a little taking it back from there. And then you get Sonny Gray, who I almost gave my standout too, because he's absolutely filthy. He goes seven-nings pitch, no-earned-runs, 7-Ks. He's been phenomenal this year. 265 ERA, two earned runs in 19 innings over his last three starts. You've got to love that. And then the Pirates took the last one.

They scored seven runs in the fourth inning. I mean, happy to see it. Pirates kind of not in it anymore. If they were in the American League, we'd still be talking about it. Right. Hey, Pirates at Home, 8th consecutive home series win against an AL opponent. Okay, so there's a little AL kicker there. The Red Sox, after being undefeated, they've lost seven of their past nine.

The offense has really struggled, and of note, Adley Rushman. Yes. First five games. It's one for 17. He had one game where he's given up three. And then every other game was two or less runs. Like this guy has been, where would the Reds be without Chase Burns, essentially? Like he's given them a chance to win every single time he's gone out there except for two,

where he's getting up five. that was against Washington in his last start. So a nice bounce back start for him. And the other one before that was against Cleveland, July 28th. And we just go with them. it. One of those would be Tommy John. You just say, I'm getting Tommy John. And I hope we never get to the point we forget about the guy Tommy John. Because he passed away August 15th. And he left like probably one of the most important legacies in baseball history. In baseball history. Like probably one of if like seriously, I'm not joking. Like maybe the like the most important guy in baseball history. And he also was a hell of a ball player. I don't think people understand that.

So if you don't know, Tommy John was a pitcher. This guy, 288 wins. He pitched 26 seasons. So he debuted in 1963 against the Washington senators. His last pitch was in 1989, Jake, at 46 years old. the final batter he faced, Devin White. Wow. Was eight months old when Tommy John debuted.

Devin White could play a little. I got some Devin White. Okay. A 3-3-4 ERA with 4700 innings, 162 complete games, 46th shutouts, four all-stars. Not in the Hall of Fame. That'll change. So in 1974, so the middle of his career, he feels what he describes as a crash in his left elbow. He goes to Dr. Frank Job.

And Joe was like, hey, man, I got this thing I want to try. He ends up taking a tendon from John's right forearm, attaches it to the bones in his left elbow. And he told him there's the one in 100 chance that you're going to pitch again. and John's like, well, I'll try. I'll either do that or go back and sell cars. So he misses all of 1975 and rehabbing or like, you know, healing. Makes 31 starts in 1976. And then 1977, so two years afterwards,

he goes 20 and 7 with a 278, finishes second to Steve Carlton for the NLSA Young. 164 of those 288 wins that came after the surgery. He had more post-op wins than he did pre-op, which is amazing. Again, this was like an experimental surgery. So, having said that, hell of a ball player, going to miss you. But here's some of the legacy that he's left. More than 2,600 major leaguers have now had the procedure.

future. 2,600 guys who prior to this, we never would have heard of again because there was a career-ending injury. But now, I mean, everyone's good. High school guys are getting, which is, you know, it's another whole different story. Here's some notable pictures that have had Tommy John. John Smoltz, Billy Wagner, both in the Hall of Fame. Verlander, de Grom, Sale, Strasbourg, Wainwright, Carpenter, Udarvish, Sandy, Shane Bieber, Tim

They've both got it. Tommy John. Talk about leaving an impact on the game. And Max Scherzer, who deserves some love, and you mentioned him, Tommy John, Max Scher, who has one of the more illustrious careers we've ever seen,

is if you think of a workhorse and a dog in today's modern era baseball, just crossed 3,000 innings pitched. Shout out Mad Max. Tommy John, 4,710 innings. It's almost another half. Yeah, it's, there is something nice to when something historic or legendary happens,

and the person attached to it is also, and I think Tommy John checks that box. I'm just reading some more about this as we got it. He was the valedictorian of his high school in 1961. They wouldn't let him give a speech because he stuttered. Talk about overcoming shit. I mean, it was different times, I'm assuming, in Gerstmeier High School in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Oh, my gosh, dude. That was the 50s? He sat bedside through a 19-day coma when his two-year-old son fell from a third-story window in 1981. only left the hospital to make home starts. Holy snaky. Yeah. I had a couple jokes.

This time they ring it in a big way on the road against the Detroit Tigers who are surging as a part of this season. And a big part of it was two guys. And you talked about how much we talk about Pete Alonzo because I love him. And, oh, yeah, he's just annually, one of the best power hitters in the league. You mentioned the guys that are. ahead of him in home runs, and two of them are on the same team. It's Murakami and it's Miguel Vargas.

Now, if you've been following the baseball season, you're locked into these guys. Like Miguel Vargas going from Sad Miguel Vargas getting traded to he's been on the all-JM team, 835 OPS on the season from a third baseman. Like, that's an impact piece. The Murakami story from his free agency to how is he going to contribute to he's a baller to he's hurt, and now he's hitting again. 28 homers on the season for both of them, I believe, which that's pretty impressive. These guys on pace for like 35 home runs.

That's pretty crazy. These guys have a little man crush going on, which we always love that. You know, a signature of this show as well. Vargas had a four for five on Friday. Murakami, one for three with the homer. And then, man, in that final game, to sweep the Detroit Tigers, it's a tie game. It's a tie game. You know, division potentially on the line.

Murakami in a 4-4 game in the seventh inning goes opposite field, two-run tank job. Not an easy field to go opo. And it's just he's that guy. He is to basically insure the sweep. Well, Vargas does with the insurance homer in the ninth inning. And Trev, this is the stuff I like. because these guys have homered now in the same game 10 times this season.

There's been three other sets of White Sox to do this. Now, the first one I'm going to be quick with, because it's not as jazzy. But in the time it was jazzy because young Jake Berger, who's going to be kind of a baseball legend 20 years from now looking at that player page of the kind of juice he brings. And it was Luis Robert. Okay, that was 2023. Before that, two other duos to do this in White Sox.

You kind of have a little exhale and you say that dude was a baller and then he had one of the weirdest leg breaks in baseball history, fouling one off his leg and breaking it. But the dude, that dude had juice, man, and a great little career there. It also happened in 2003. Frank Thomas and El Cabo Carlos Lee.

Ooh. Who go look at that player page. El Cabo Carlos Lee was about as steady as it got for a decade with 30 homers and 100 RBI. From Panama, El Cabo the Horse. That I thought it was funny. This White Sox team that nobody was viewing as anything, I think I lost a little respect as the season started to drag on because we started talking about them less.

They got boppers in that lineup. Colson Montgomery, who's been in a little bit of a funk, but he might be coming out of it. These guys are doing special power stuff. Like, Tomey and Frank Thomas are two of the legendary power hitters of all time. Germain Dye and Carlos Lee are two of the legendary, like, if you watch those guys play, you talk about them. Like, they were just dudes.

and now the White Sox got dudes on their team, man, that I wanted to give them love. Another time getting challenged this year, and they rang the bell on it. I was, for some reason, I was thinking Carlos Lee and Aramis Ramirez Ramirez were the same guy, kind of are. In a way.

Just boppers, dude. Boppers. Absolute boppers. Boppers. Great award. I love watching the White Slugs play. I've been saying all year long, they're one of the most fun teams to watch.
