He's back. Maybe he's fixed, coach, or maybe the Padre's offense fixes a lot of pitchers these days. What about the Nationals?

I love my Nats. I've got an attitude. There's a three-way tie for the final National League wild card spot. I don't want to step over Treves. I don't know. I'm wearing a brown. wearing a brown shirt for maybe the first time ever in my life, and I don't know how to feel about it.

Yeah, thumbs up? I'm a big brown and summer guy. Okay. Does it go well with my complexion? Because I've got... I think it does. You got like an olive skin situation. Makes you zoom in a little more.

Parade yesterday. Final congrats to the New York Knicks and the city of New York that's been losing their minds. But in the AL, it's a lot of yanks. But because it is Friday, we start off. with the National League. And two teams that are a little bit, I don't know, cousins in our current Major League Baseball Society, the Milwaukee Brewers face the Cleveland Guardians and Chris Rose. The Brewers took the first two games, a two-one pitcher's duel that Garrett Mitchell

hits the homer to win that game. Brewers get out to an early lead in that second one to win the set off of Gavin Williams, career high, seven Ernie's. Cleveland avoids the sweep and they had to high wire act it that left the bases Brewers left the bases loaded in the seventh and the eighth inning

for Cleveland to win that game and get out of Dodge salvaging the set. The Dodgers, yeah. Yes, we probably haven't discussed enough Dodgers because they sweep the Tampa Bay race who have been so consistently good this year

although they're running into their first rough patch and maybe the problem is they ran into Miggie Rojas, You know it's going to happen. You can't stop it. You just can't. Kyle Tucker with the big day at the office. Remember they signed him? That led to a pitcher's duel. Not McClanahan-O-Tonnie. It was Rasmussen Robleski. Oh, but that Otani guy hit the Homer that was the 1-0 winner. They get the sweep with a late or a mid-game comeback against the race. The Giants, they get a two-game sweep over Atlanta, a lot of rain and weather in this one that delayed the game.

to the next day. We talked a little bit this Uncle Pete. Luis Arise, where will he be playing come August? Good for you, Giants. Too little, too late. Cardinals take two out of three from San Diego. For a hand out. St. Louis keeps doing it, Trev, and they pitch Dustin May with a complete game one-hit shutout.

Okay, palo. Game two, Andre Palante comes out and no hits him into the sixth. So maybe it is a San Diego thing. Cardinals win those first two games. Hey, San Diego gets out of there with a win on the last day. Griffin Canning and Bradgley Rodriguez get it started for them. Sure. Phillies, take two out of three from the Marlins.

How's your Gabrielle Rincones Jr.? Solo Homer off Gusto, his first MLB hit. Zach Wheeler is back. We've talked about that. And then, Tyler, Phillips right as Trev gave him love gets knocked around by the Phillies. Marlins salvage on Alcantara Day, Kyle Stowers with the big game. Phillies, the record unrematically, continues to keep looking very impressive.

The Reds and the Mets, both floundering a bit, but the Reds with a massive game, including Aeohenio Suarez, 6 RBI in that first game, and Chase Burns in the bullpen shutting down the Mets. The Reds keep it rolling. and the next one, Sal Stewart, get those eyebrows going. He hits the three-run homer. Mets, it's a lot of salvaging. Nolan McLean was dominant in the final game of that set,

but that's all they got. The Cubbies, they win a series, yes, it's over the Rockies. Yes, they lost the middle game. Right now that's none of their business. PCA, we talked about it a little bit. He gets the cycle picked off first. Cubbies win that game late, and thank God they do, because if they had lost this series, watch out in Shytown.

Seven runs in the second inning of the final game to secure the series. And your last, but not least, National League series. The Debex, they take two out of three from the Angels. And that's obvious a little bit. Ryan Nelson with seven quality innings. Pavin Smith breaks the tie, hit in the pole. We always love that noise. Mike Trout with a big second game, but he does leave with injury.

We hate that. Corby Carroll, Grand Salami. as the D-backs. Take the final game. Take this set. And that's what happened in the National League. Make the noise of the pole. You got that? Ooh. I don't think so. Yeah, I don't think so either. That's not the noise that a human

can make. A little jealousy out of me. I can't do that. Chris Rose could probably do it. I got the standings pop. Congratulations. That was an excellent job with your burn. Good job. Thank you. And it is the National League. I am going to start out West, because that's where I'm at. West Coast Times. I'm back on

And we'll start out with the Dodgers. Best record in baseball. We probably don't talk about him enough. You're right about Miggy Row. Rematch of the 2020 World Series. He loves anything World Series related. They're 48 and 27. All of a sudden, Jake, a nine-game lead in that division.

38 and 35 for the Padres. 38 and 36 for the snakes, so I'll be seeing tonight. Can't wait for that. Then the Giants and the Rockies at the bottom. 31 and 43 for the Giants and 28 and 47 for the Rocks. we'll go out to the central where the brewers are starting to separate themselves a little bit. 45 and 27 for them at the top of the division. Five and a half game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals, who are 40 and 33.

My goodness, man, they keep doing it. The Cubs, 39 and 36, they're treading water as best they can. And the Pittsburgh Pirates still one game over 500, 38 and 37 for them in Cincinnati, trying to make it happen. South Stewart with a nice game. 35 and 38 for them. And then out east, the second best record in the National League belongs to the Atlanta Braves. Peter Morlins, Atlanta Braves.

His teeth look great on the show. 46 and 27 for them, 40 and 35 for the Philadelphia Phillies. So there's seven games back. The Nationals, 39 and 36. And then those are the only teams over 500. You got the Marlins, 37, 38, and Jolly's Mets, 34 and 41. And you're right, Jake. If we did the National League wildcard right now,

there is three teams tied for that last spot. St. Louis would have the first wild card. The Phillies would have the second wild card. And then the Padres Cubs and the Washington freaking nationals are all tied for the last wildcard spot. Arizona half came back. Pittsburgh right there with one, Miami, two. It is a bloodbath in each league.

When we're talking about the wild card, those are the standings in the National League. Those St. Louis Cardinals, man, I know we're going to talk about them in a little May in June with Dustin May's nasty start. But yeah, that top wild card spot and they haven't had that slip up. It's going to be interesting. We haven't really processed that yet. But, you know, the whole heim coming in and they had a whole reset plan.

But now they're kind of here. I know there's a lot of you read a trade deadline article and a lot of teams are still like, Dustin May, Lars Neupbar. But if they're they're the number one wildcard, team and we keep doing that into July. Those guys, let me talk about adding instead of teams trying to pluck Riley O'Brien away from them. Yeah, I mean, I think Dustin May is a candidate, a guy that's been injured his

career, has actually made some money. I was looking at that with Chris Rose the other day. He's a candidate for an extension. What's going on in baseball today? You and Chris Rose just checking out Dustin May's earnings, huh? I know that's something that you and I do. I feel bad, like taking it somewhere else. Yeah, what the hell, dude?

That the top six wild card teams are separated by two and a half games. There's eight teams, I think, separated by,

three games or something. It's never been a math pod. No, and they're not a great tweet pod. It's a, there was a day when we used to be a great tweet pod. Yeah. That N.O.L. card shaping up well. Hey, maybe the AL is too.

There's a new team at the bottom of the AOL card. We're going to get there, people. Let's shoot through it. I mean, I'll be honest, I don't know of these National League sets. There's not a lot that pop out and are like, oh, my God, we got to spend 10 minutes on this. It's, I don't want to say chalky, but the Brewers, they take care of the guardians. That first game is kind of the joke game that we talk about between the guards and the brewers.

It's a one-one pitcher's duel between Saccone and Gasser, which again, those guys don't normally lead the way when we talk about those teams. Garrett Mitchell, who's always a confusing baseball reference when I bring him up, he's got, when he connects, it's a simple, powerful swing. that gives them game one. They knock around Gavin Williams in game two. And then, yeah, I think we're one swing away from talking about a brew crew sweep here as they leave the bases loaded twice late.

What did you see, Coach? Yeah, I mean, this is a team, a Guardians team without Jose Ramirez. And I said Chris Rose, this could be a time where they go. And a bunch of guys just step up and we get playoff Rokio. And, you know, it can happen for them, did not happen this series. The Brewers aren't going to let that happen. They end up scoring nine total runs in this series. They get to Gavin Williams, who they need to be elite in this time.

Like, the pitching staff needs to carry this team right now. And the last three starts haven't been great for him. Parker Messick was throwing cheese in that last game. So he ends up, like, again, avoiding the sweep. I know the Brewers had a chance there. But I think this is just a little too much to overcome. The Brewers are such a good team. The first game or the second game, like Yelichoppo against Gavin Williams.

and then Schneem and hits the Grand Slam. And it's like, okay, that's what I'm talking about. Like this guy's stepping up. It's going to be one of those things for the guard dogs. But then Jackson Chu Urio doesn't care about that narrative and takes the lead back. So yeah, I think this was as of right now, I'm not calling it good team bad teams. I don't think the guardians are a bad team. But without Jose Ramirez, they're not who they are usually.

Yeah, I guess the big, the headline story from this should be the. who have been one of the best teams in baseball the past two years. Cooper Pratt, who got the extension. He gets called up starting shortstop. Here's the gig. And yeah, gets his first hit in that second game. Interested to what he sees and looks like. Like, I don't have the scouting report yet.

Number 12, okay. I do think it is interesting that, you know, we're told he's going to have the glove and we'll see what we get with the stick. I guess you get told that with a lot of shortstop prospects. 21 years old, only six players in Brewers franchise history have started a game at shortstop at a younger age. Two of them are Hall of Famers, Robin Yaut and Paul Molitor. The others, Ed Romero, Rick Auerbach, Enrique Cruz,

and, of course, it's Gary Sheffield. Oh, gosh. So basically, if I wanted to chop this up another way, And I think Gary gets in one way or another one day. I know there's some different stuff there, but, you know, if half the list you're on is Hall of Famers, it's a fun way to look at it. That lets, yeah, yeah, hey, hey, shout out Ed Romero too.

But we got a new shortstop in the NL Central Powerhouse Brewers. It's going to be fun to watch what they do. I love the first game. Did you like that? runs out to the field by himself. And Terang's like, we tried to keep it light for him. I know he's thinking about a million things just like everybody on their debut. So we tried to keep it light and remind him it's a game.

This is fun. That's not fun. Right? That's so anxious. That's terrifying. That's terrifying. What? If I turned around and I saw nobody else ran out yet, your heart would sink.

Yeah, man. I guess that's just Brewers love. That's Pat Murphy, Terang, everyone giving him a hug. debuts are just so funny. They're terrifying. They truly are. Let's see what that looks like. Let's see how Cleveland survives without J-RAM for a little bit.

Tough matchup. Speaking of the Dodgers, like you mentioned, the Braves have kind of been the storyline if we're doing best team of this season. Now, look where the Dodgers are. 48 and 27. They do it against the Tampa Bay Rays,

who have been playing a lesser brand of late. But these are all one-run games. 4-3-10-4. Yeah, you could point in a few different directions and could the race have done something differently, sure. I think the Kyle Tucker game is significant. Things are starting to get a little louder there.

Like, again, you get a lot of buffer because of that team, but right when they needed it, he has a nice outfield assist. He has the big three-run homer. that, you know, it's going to happen for him. He's Kyle Tucker. He's going to have a month where we look up and it's a 988 OPS. It's just, is it now or is it going to be a slow burn? Yeah, I mean, if he's on a different team and he's making $60 million a year,

whatever the hell he's making. What is he making? Is it 60? Yo, that's crazy. We've come too far from our postseason just obsessing about all this stuff. I think it's 60. another team we'd be talking about. Note it.

So it's listed. 57.1. You know, baseball reference has it listed out just differently because of it's a funky contract. It has them at 33 mil this year. I don't know if that's how it's hitting the books or not. Next year, it's technically listed on baseball reference as $81,900,000. That's pretty good. good. That's a good career.

I mean, that's a great career. It's a great career. Anyways, on another team, yeah, he's probably getting buried for the start that he's had to the year, but for the Dodgers who, you know, I hate saying this, but they don't necessarily give a shit about the regular season. Do they want the one seed? I don't know, I think. They didn't need it last year. It's what's this guy going to do? Come down the race in September. What's going to do in October. And I think the only thing I would say to that is

obviously you want him to go into the postseason having success. If he went into the postseason with a 720 OPS, I don't think you'd be too stoked about it. If he gets it up and starts to go as the summer months come, I think we'll be fine.

I think at the end of the year, look back and say Kyle Tucker did a fine job. Didn't crush the ball and then it's all about the postseason for them. So it's a reason he wanted to go there. I think. The fact that you can be just yourself and it's not all on your shoulders, I think, and obviously he wants to win.

So, yeah, a great. Chris Rose says, is this the beginning of his Dodgers tenure? Nice. Nice. No. And then the second game, I know we're kind of flip-flopping here. Robleski versus Resbius. It is awesome.

Rebleski just pounding the strike zone. same with Resmussen. I love watching him pitch. Show Hey, the ball he hit the center off him was just an absolute missile. Like the sound that the ball makes coming off his bat is just different. And to go dead center like that. It's just not easy. That looks easy.

He makes it look easy, especially Drew Rasmussen, who has the number two ERA since 2021, to Shohei Otani, who hits the homer in that game. Our buck 52. I guess if you're a Dodger fan and you were at that game, did you feel like job by that? I don't know. I don't think I've been to a... No, you get a show hey Homer and you win.

Okay. It's just... You're probably sitting in the parking lot longer than you're watching the game. That's my thing. I mean, if you get one bad concession run and maybe a bad bathroom break and it feels like you might have missed the game. Dodgers sweep the raise, second ever sweep against the raise in their history. history. Their bullpen was very good in this.

Rays have lost 15 of their last 22. So after they had the MLB best record, it has come for them a one in five West Coast trip. So get them off of that. Again, it's tough when you point to the Dodgers, but McClanahan gets knocked around. And the next steps are going to be interesting. Like as we talk about this being a long season, they were, they were, I don't know, maybe the biggest outlier team. Like we didn't know, what to do with the raise this year, and they were the best in the AL for two months. Yeah, big homestand coming up, those nationals who always feel like teams are playing them at the wrong moment, Kansas City and Arizona at home.

A lot of their, you know, starting pitching stats, what their offense does grade out pretty well as I bring up the Dodgers page where the Dodgers are first and average, first and on base, first in OPS, second in run, second in homers, while the starting pitching is first in ERA, first and whip, first and hits allowed. The bullpen numbers are pretty good. The defensive numbers are great. Again, it's one of those things where it's like, are the Dodgers clicking on all cylinders?

It's been a lot of Andy Pahez. It's been, Max Muncie's been great this year. But like, I don't know. It feels like there's more in the chamber, and they're going to be a very interesting trade deadline team as well. Well, the reinforcements are coming. I mean, they don't have that two of their, or Blake Snells on his way back,

like that's going to be interested to see what happens there and you're right about the trade deadline with them. I don't know, man. They're a problem. Not for Dodgers fans. They are not. They're a problem for everyone else. Giants take two from Atlanta.

I don't want to get lost in this. We talked this with Pete a little bit. And again, this got rain delayed to the next day. And they wrote it out from there. Peter, Peter left his substitute gig with us to go to two games in Atlanta. He's a grinder. He's a bullpen guy, Trev. That's why you liked them.

I do. I mean, honestly, for me, when I looked at all of this and it was like, oh, Giants get a couple nice wins, and Devers has a home or Adama's a ride's big game. The biggest thing for me, Robbie Ray, in a bulk effort has a really nice outing, was debating him for a standout because his, that five-year contract he signed his up this year that I think he's got a chance to be a very well-talked-about trade piece. I know it sucks that. They win two games against Atlanta.

That's what we're talking about. But, I mean, there was a couple of the media guys talking about, hey, yeah, they're open to trading Chapman, Adamas and Devers. I don't know how you're going to trade Devers. Adomis at least has a couple homers here. I'm sure every time he does that, they're like, okay, okay, keep going, keep going. It'd be crazy to trade Chapman, but he could get a haul right now. There's no doubt about it.

But, I mean, they're sitting 12 games under 500 right now. Yeah, exactly. I think Giants fans would confirm. And as you and I are feeling bad, because we want to give them a pat on the bum. Like, I don't know. Giants front office is talking about trains right now. Is this?

Is this? This could be the new red wedding. Go on. They could, I'm just saying, like, they could clean house. Right. Like, I know, like, some of those contracts are tough. Like, I mean, both Chapman and Willie.

are making like 25 a year. I think a team like the Braves would entertain bringing on Willie Adomas. We talked about Matt Chapman where he could go, Philadelphia. Like Devers will be much more difficult to trade right now.

It's a long contract. You know, three more years than Adomis, I think has left on his. Robbie Ray, Logan, would have like they could really cut it out. I hope they don't, but they could. Yeah, it'll be interesting. I think I would have Adamas and Chapman circled.

We've talked about right-handed power. We've talked about infielders a lot. Those contracts aren't ridiculous for who those guys are. The Giants are going to get a real offer for them. And if you're trying to make your books feel a little better in a losing season while also having your sights set towards next year, yeah, I think we're going to end up talking about a lot of San Francisco Giants a lot. So sorry, Giants fans.

We both hope that this season had more than that for you guys, but it feels like that's where that's trending. Speaking of one of those teams we thought we were going to be talking about like that this year, my St. Louis Cardinals, an all-talking baseball manager and Ali Mar-Mall, they take two out of three from San Diego, and they keep, they continue to stay well above 500. They continue to stay in that NL Central that we've raved about all year long. They have that second position over the Chicago Cubbies, over the pirates, over the Reds.

And they do it with very impressive pitching. Dustin May with one of the best performances of the year that I'm excited to talk about that. And then Andre Palante opens up the next game. He goes no-no for a while that, yeah, I'd already pointed the finger at San Diego a little bit that the offense hasn't been there this season. But it's also just been a good St. Louis baseball team from the start of the year till now. Yeah, you know, first of all, we've been talking about Dustin May for a while with the Red Sox last year, just really couldn't figure it out, or maybe he wasn't as healthy as he is this year,

but he's starting to look phenomenal. This game, he was lights out. I mean, yeah, that's a great play by Mason Wynn right there. Yeah, one by Lars Neupar. Do that one from the top again, Rob, because if you haven't really seen Mason's Wend's arm since he's been the prospect that throws 100 miles per hour, like this double play we're so used to the shortstop just flipping it to second because that's the play and he's like no let me let me show you my canon yeah it's great because that was after mani machado gets the knock um walks tautis gets the knock and then you know that could have if he doesn't make that play a run scores and i think all he starts thinking about the bullpen and all those things instead instead dustin's able to finish the game uh i don't know man again i think if you find a guy like you find a guy like you Dustin May, who's still very young, a guy with injury history, a guy who almost freaking died,

and that's not a joke. I think that if you offer him some financial security, that I think he'd be open to looking at it. He's had success with the Cardinals. Maybe he likes it there. I think this is the guy that you don't trade. You try to keep around. I mean, depending on what he's looking for, but it was a phenomenal outing for him. And then, you know, yeah, Pagante, say, follows that up, excuse me, with another nice outing. But this Cardinals team, I think they just rake. Like, up and down the lineup, especially with Newpar back just to, and now Blaze Jordan there, like, these guys can hit.

And it's not one through four. Like, it's like one through, I mean, it's almost the entire lineup is going to rake. So they kind of got the recipe right now. I think they could use some bullpen help, but they're going to win games because the roster as the season gets going and like it just looks deeper and deeper. Yeah, a couple guys that they have just plugged into play, whether it's Blaze Jordan, which is seven games now, but Newpar, Brian Torres, who we talked about,

the good story side of it, but he contributes when he's out there. I mean, one of the most steady teams from start to finish this year has been the St. Louis Cardinal. So I know there is a little bit of will the bottom fall out? what does a bad stretch feel like? Because it normally does come from every team. But it also hasn't felt like they haven't gotten like hot. Like they haven't hit Fuego in a while, that if they go that way,

you're almost ensuring yourself as one of the teams. Well, that National League is going to get nasty down the stretch this year. But during the depths of summer when you need new guys to contrite, Nelson Velasquez showing up and hitting some tanks when requested, everyone knows where I'm staying with Jimmy Crooks. Like if you look at that, Dustin May. Every pitcher is now. You know, Dustin May, who I was laughing because I was excited to talk about him today, going back to some old Jake and Trev don't even know each other yet. And I think I said into a mic, I was like, I think Dustin May is fastball, moves too much. And you were like, Jake, that's just sometimes you're around it, little guy, but that ain't it. And then I remember you a couple years later, he's like,

I don't get why Dustin May isn't working. Here he is throwing 97 now instead of the triple digits we saw. But he's throwing those three, the cutter, the 4C man, the sinker that can give you one of these impressive, you know, complete game shutout outings, which not only does that win your team that game, but it resets your bullpen that sets you up so that, like, those starts have become so massive to getting through like a month. Yeah, absolutely.

The way pitching is going, and I have thoughts on it, what the twins are doing, their minor league system, all this stuff. Not going to get into it, I promise. But you're right. I mean, resetting the bullpen, going deep into games is paramount for success in a season. It truly is. You need, let's just call it every time through the rotation, somebody's got to go into the seventh.

you can't be five and diving it all season long. It's just too much wear and tear on the bullpen. And every time I look at a team like the Cardinals and think about bullpen help, I just imagine Raulis Chapman in the uniform. And that's all me may be. Whoa. I'm just saying,

the Red Sox are going to freaking, someone's going to give up a stupid package for Araldis Chapman. You're probably right. I mean, we've seen him traded at deadlines before. he's pitching a lot. Still at a high level and lefty relievers like don't exist. That, yeah, he's almost the biggest guaranteed to be traded at this deadline. I get high and tight, just where are you at with San Diego?

Because it's, feels icky. I mean, if we're, this is, I mean, no offense to the Padres pitchers, but the guys, they're kind of like throwing out there. It feels like a band-aid on the starting pitching staff. and then it can just continues where we're not getting we're not hitting homers it's too difficult to the game now to string together three hits so like you have to hit home runs in today's games you have to slug in today's games and they just really haven't done that there was another play and again trying not to have shots fired another play to center field a sack fly situation jackson marrow comes to throw the ball in and it's he

throws it to the cutoff man that's standing on the mound and has no chance. And I just, that's in our binder, Jake. Our guys will be throwing guys out at the plate. He hits a home run in the series. But, you know, I just, it doesn't feel super competitive right now.

They come back and they win a set, but currently with the status of the NL, I'm going to need to see more of that from Chase Burns, Bladay, Ehay, Eugenio Suarez, who we've seen become the hottest hitter in baseball, so maybe that's coming,

and that can be what changes for Cincinnati is they take down the Mets, where every time I want to get excited about them, I still see where they are. in the standings, the third worst team in the National League, which that brings me to the Cubbies, survive the Rockies. Like, I still don't think they're feeling great. They needed to win a series and they did.

I do want to hear you talk about PCA's moment because he is our guy, but man, every now and then, feels like we're like, damn it, PCA. I mean, if you've seen his numbers offensively defensive, you can get away with getting picked off after you hit for the psychopath. Yes, I fully agree with you. I mean, you could do a lot of things performing the way PCA is. And, I mean, shoot, the Cubs have needed every bit of it. And this series, I mean, yeah, a great comeback win in that first one.

Not if I got Cole Carrig with two Gs. Yeah, how about that Cole Carrig? I'm working with a guy that has Greg with two Gs at the end of it. So what's up with that? I've never minded that. And Colson Montgomery and Andrew Benintendi pitch hitting. Gets it done for the White Sox. It's Salvage Week. They salvage the set in the Boogie Down.

I'll tell you who hasn't salvaged shit this year, the Boston Red Sox. Oh my God. Every time you look, it gets uglier. The player quotes are getting worse. as the Toronto Blue Jays sweep them. Not only did they get shut out in that middle game, they lose the last game connected to some wind balls. It is as bad as I can remember seeing in the Commonwealth

But then it's Pirates the rest of the way. Brandon Lau, Bela, Ryan Reynolds. Gotta be an all-star. I'd have to check it off. They're strong enough. Him and Ryan O'Hern to have a lot of offense and outlasts.

Zach Goloff, who's back? Trev's. Zach Gulloff. A 21-game hit streak? Okay, young fella. But it's not enough as the Pirates take two out of three. And your final series, nobody has enough for these guys. The Washington Nationals take two out of three.

Curtis Mead, the Thunder from Down Under. And then Luis Garcia, Jr. with the go-ahead two-run single in the first. Nassim Nunez, you know he's doing it with the glove and the wheels. I think he might have went six for seven this series. He could be in Fuego. Not in Fuego enough to stop the salvage royals on salvage series week as they hit four solo homers off Zach Lattel to salvage the set. That's what happened in the American League.

I feel like we talk about them, like they're a great team, and the Washington Nationals have a better record than them. texas 35 and 39 Houston 35 and 41 and then the angels 30 and 46 Mike trout hurts willie de portes down bad in the wild card in the american league right now it would be the Tampa bay raise with the number one spot and then after that it would be the A's and Toronto. Am I reading this wrong? Yes, I am. It'd be a Tampa Bay raise and then one of the Chicago White Sox in Cleveland Guard Dogs and then tied for the last spot would be the A's and Toronto.

My twins and the Rangers only one and a half game back in the wild card. Those are the standings in the American League. Your twins are messing around, coach. It's the, I mean, you want to just do the twins talk and get it out of the way? Yes. To be honest, yes. The offense has been great. Second most runs in the American League behind your Yanks.

Nice. They've just kind of been steady. It was like one guy at a time, and lately it's been everybody. Rake and Cody Clemens, Trevor Larnick, Josh Bell, Royce Lewis, Byron Buxton. I mean, so they've been doing well. Pitching still scares me a little bit. There's no doubt about it, but they're getting healthy on that front.

Bullpen still scares me a little bit. They're figuring it out. Guys, they're high leverage guys. They're kind of picking and choosing a little bit better. I don't know. They're playing great defense, which was something new. Like they didn't really start out that way, but the way they've constructed it now, it's getting better.

So, yeah, I mean, they took it to a Texas team who really doesn't have much thump going on in that lineup. Corey, see you're out right now. Once you get past the top three or four guys, it feels like you can get outs there. So they just did it. Yeah, my Rangers, 9 and 31 when opponents score first. I mean, a lot of teams, you know, have stats similar to that, but not as juicy there.

26 and 8 when they score first. And yeah, hey, Trev, you know, I'm still a sucker for, I think it's easier to find pitching than hitting. It's kind of, it's a strong, I believe in that statement, and the twins are hitting. Whether it's the known guys, the buckstop. Cody Clemens' time as a Minnesota twin, he has been a hitter that there's something there. I don't know what to do with it. I'm going to give them a little more respect leading up to the All-Star break, and then I'll let you know where I'm at because it doesn't feel sustainable,

but it feels like a decent product right now. It's been a great product to watch. They fight back. The trade rumors, I think, are crazy. I just don't think that we're going to trade guys. I know the articles have come out. Jeff Passon has Byron Buxton and Joe Ryan at the top. Buxton's not going anywhere.

he's set as much. He's got the 10 and 5 and no trade there. And then Joe Ryan to me they're trying to win fans back. You don't trade Joe Ryan in the middle of a season where you're right in it to win fans back. I think you could wait to the offseason if you really wanted to do it. I don't think the packages would be too dissimilar. So I just don't

I don't see them selling to be honest with you. It's interesting. I want to straighten out my Joe Ryan thoughts. I think you're on the nose of Buxton And even just the glimpses I've seen of what he means to that organization, like they can't trade them. And he said time after time, I'm not waving my no trade clause. Right.

Like happiness is a thing. I think he was drafted in 2012. Like Byron Buckson's been part of that family organization for, you know, we're coming up on 14 years. So like he likes it. He's so good. Let it run. Retire him.

Let's get a monument. Let's keep playing games, Buck Daddy. Joe Ryan, I think if the right offer's there, I do think you have to I think you have to process that. Yeah, you can think about it. At what cost? Right. At what cost?

And the Yankees, they ran out and they gave them the business. they knocked around Davis Martin for his worst start of the year. The Yankees put up big boy runs. The Yankees, Judge went out, final game of May,

and, you know, there is something in this beautiful sport that you obviously miss Aaron Judge, but I think you could call it accountability. You could call it getting hot at the right time. You could call it opportunity. The Yankees' offense has taken the opportunity since he's been out. They go up 11 to 1. Garrett Cole looks very solid in that game.

and then the next night, Cody Bellinger, who has just been one of the best players in baseball. And again, there's, you know, it's going to be a fun Jolly Olive video in a couple years, the Juan Soto ripple effect that brought Cody Bellinger to the Bronx and just what kind of Yankee he has been. Paul Goldschmidt has been nails. Spoiler, I will talk about him later. And then, yeah, the Yankees on what was a fantastic New York week with the parade yesterday and the Knicks winning. you know, a chance for a little Fandemoneum if they completed this sweep. Their bullpen, which still has some concerns,

especially Camilo Duvall, first pitch, pinch hit by Ben Intendi, Grand Slam, won one game in the eighth, 5-1, it's over. Your thoughts on the White Sox, I know you guys kind of gave them the business. You got Davis Martin, you guys crushed, and same with Anthony Kay. Like, is there any redeeming qualities for you from the Sox team?

Yeah, I mean, they have young good ball players. It's, I, this is really tough because as much as I've been hyping Davis Martin this year to see that start, like I feel like I can't judge him on that. Like seeing Sean Burke, you know, we saw a couple followers. Like I mentioned Robbie Ray had a great follower outing. Sean Burke, who apparently his stats when he's a follower, incredible. And he looked the part that, yeah, I mean, it's there. I would have loved to see Murakami. He's on the shelf.

Like they, they still have. pieces here and I don't know man I don't want to be I know I'm already Yankee guy and I'm fine with that thanks everyone but like I they just beat the braids they just beat the Dodgers so I'm not in a two in a three game set where two of their starting pitchers got rocked I can't I really can't use this as a measuring stick for them so that's a nice measured take from you thank you for that I'm a nice measured guy I'm about you know five 10 um Let's do some Blue Jays. Trev mentioned J's A's.

J's are a wildcard team right now. A team this whole year been looking for the sauce. You savage is back looking like an ace. They had some hitters in the bad place for so long, whether it's Schneider, a Vladdy to a different degree with his power stroke. Vladdy goes over the monster. Schneider goes over the monster.

They sweep the set. It's a lot of Boston's ugly, Boston's ugly. but the Blue Jays, the defending AL champs, very much in the mix. Yeah, they're getting, I mean, I feel like we've talked about their offense and it hasn't really clicked and it hasn't been terrible. I think as the summer goes on, we're going to see them become that team that we saw at the end of last year as well.

I do want to shout out George Springer. What was that? What home run was that? Yes. Five. 300 that's what it was 300 300

I said I was going to fix Vladdy's swing even on the swing that he hit the homer in I feel like he's not giving himself any space like close to his body

he's like super closed off and it looks like the weight transfer is just like rigid and again like just no space to operate in here. And that's like not what I'm used to seeing out of him. Blue Jays fans tell me if you've been seeing that all year long or what. Because that'll that'll zap you of some power.

Like look at the swing. Like the hips getting through doesn't seem efficient to me. It looks choppy. It looks disconnected as a word that a lot of people will use right there. Yeah, that doesn't look like a Vladdy signature swing. No, it doesn't at all. So I don't know if he needs to maybe open the stance up a little bit or clear the hips like with that front foot a little more. I don't know if he's trying to stay in. So like that's on purpose. Right. But I saw that swing.

I was like, I know it's a homer great, but it doesn't look like a typical Vladdy swing to me. But you're right. They're doing it. I think it is a little bit of Boston down just so bad as well in all facets. That offense is tough. What did they go?

They went one for 12, a runner's scoring position in the first game in 0 for 12 in the same. second game. And that's just I said that after the twins played the bottom of that lineup are just kind of outs. And it really hasn't changed. Yeah. The Red Sox stats,

there's just a lot of, a lot of bad ones. Lost 8 of 10, 10 of 14 in June. Season low, 14 games below 500. 12 and 25 at Fenway Park. 6 and 17 against the AL East. So if you want,

it you need everything to change. Yeah, that there was a foul pop-up that would have got them out of the inning. And it was a crazy windy day. Like the first base, ump had to have like a wind time out because stuff flew in his eye. Like, it was a windy day. But Caleb Durbin has to know that after hitting an impactful homer and he's had such a tough year. He's got to help out his catcher that, yeah, it's just one of those, that's one of those, I can speak from it better as a fan because my playing days were limited, that you walk away and you're just like, oh, this team isn't, isn't it?

Like, we can't, we can't win normally. If we can't win our wins, it's just over. Right now the Blue Jays have eight players with significant bats with OPS pluses 100 or better. It's like they're getting, they're getting that lineup, that length going. Nobody's like crushing the ball. Valenzuela has the highest OPS plus at 117 right now,

805 regular OPS. That will be the high on their team. But I think by the end of the season, we'll talk about their offense like we did last year. I like that. Orioles Mariners, I mentioned, you know, these teams have teed it up twice. Recently, the Mariners get the better of this one.

At home, Brian Wu, brings it home with a dominant Brian Wu start. It's good seeing Cal Rally back, and he breaks up the one-one tie, a little oppo dinker dunkeroo. Or not appo, excuse me, left center, batting righty. It gives the dug out a good reaction because he didn't get all of it, but more than enough to help them win that game. But yeah, I'm excited to get to the return from the IL segment later.

I'm normally not. This week had a lot, man, that I was looking. at a lot of rosters and it was like, hey, you know, Tigers Houston, which currently doesn't have a lot of impacts, the amount of guys that came back in this series. We obviously know the importance of the injury bug is Adley, leaves this the final game late. He gets plunked, run into first base. What did you see, coach? I saw me, yeah, Calvrally returning obviously means a lot to these Mariners. They really just haven't been on the health side all year offensively. J.P. comes back. Cal comes back but brandon donovan still out hulio leaves the game randy's on the iL like i do want to see a

full compliment of offensive players for the mariners i feel like we haven't really had that all season long um i think the interesting thing here is yeah we saw some good pitching they've all decided collectively to go back to the piggyback system and the way they're going to do it is like everyone through the rotation is going to just mix a match like everyone's going to get the piggyback start and bulk essentially. And for a while, the Mariners fans kept saying that to us, like in the comments, like,

hey, the six man rotation, it eliminates the piggyback, but it also leaves us one bullpen arm short. Yes. And it's been showing up. So like I understand the sentiment. Yeah, I don't know. They're in a difficult spot because the guy

that they probably want to send out is just like a very tenured, accomplished pitcher and that puts them in an interesting spot. but I'm curious to see how it goes if it works. Maybe this is something that other teams start to copy as well. And then the last thing, Brian Wu and Joe Ryan are very similar. Okay. And I'm not going to say what we talked about before the show.

Like it, that can matter. Yeah, I think they're only two and a half out of the wild card right now. I love the Framberg going back to Houston. There was a lot of talk about that. He actually pitched really, really well.

The sinker was nasty. He got out of a few jams. Yeah, then going up against Hunter. Brown. That's just a fun matchup right there. But then, yeah, my guy Raynell Delgado, who apparently we follow each other on Instagram, because

I started to see him pop up. Yeah, I don't even know how that happened. Was he the, I don't know. Somehow it happened, Coach. Was he at your draft or something? Why are you in Raynell Delgado? I'm not sure, but big go-ed, two-run single in the eighth of that second game.

Yeah, and the Astros. I look, Lambert's been really, really, really, really good for them. I think you mentioned that in your burn. Like he's been like a stabilizing force in that rotation. And as they kind of get all healthy, like are, are the Astros going to be in play? We used to say they're inevitable coach. And I don't think we have that in our mind anymore, but they might be like what Christian Walker is doing this year. And we know what Yordan. And I just think that if they can figure out a stable rotation that we're, we're going to be talking about them. And then I wanted to give one shout out to, gosh, who was McGonigle.

He takes freaking hater up top. Only 11 homers in his career to left-handed hitters. Career 5-08 OPS left-handers against him. And McGonigle takes him oppo to the Crawford boxes. I don't know. That's like, this guy's had such a great start to the season. Unreal. Him and J.J. Weatherhole, like, we don't talk about those guys enough.

Curtis Mead has kind of been there all year. Curtis Mead is like they're Cody Clemens, if I had to say something. Oh, I like that. yeah uh you know big homers big moments doing it and louise carcia junior probably doesn't get enough love because we talk about c j abrams and james wood a lot but it's it's a very potent offense that it's going to win you a lot of games just because even if you don't have great pitching if you score six seven runs a game don't do it uh you're going to win a lot of baseball games essentially and you got guys like foster griffins look really good for them he's been a you know

a stabilizing force in their rotation. Same with Zach Wattel. Not a great start for him in that last one, but he's been good for them. I don't know, man. They, I don't want to say they won't go away because I don't think that's like the right thing to say about them,

but they've been a lot of fun. This is what we've been talking about for the last couple of years. It didn't happen and it's finally happened this year with a 33-year-old manager. Love that for us. Yeah, right. Go Nats go, man. I'm in.

If I wanted to cut out his first couple games, because he got off to a slow start, it's literally like the first week. He's been a 1.053 since the first week of the season. So he is just, if you were a real Kurtz-staner, best hitter in baseball, I don't know.

You could start spinning something up. I mean, one of, yes. I think they're still Aaron Judge. You're taking him out of the equation now because he's hurt? If I was a rabid, annoying athletics fan, Judge, who wasn't at his best this year, I do think it was linked towards injury, I could craft something up for Kurt's common nick.

Yeah, I mean, I'm in. I think this guy's incredible. I wanted to, did you show the second Homer, just a fly ball to left field? but he's just so damn strong that he goes out. There's something with that stadium where, again, we've talked about a lot that it feels, I don't know if the ball just flies.

The ranch craze TSA tweeting out, like, please don't put your ranch and your carry on, like check that. Like, you know, and, you know, there's been a lot of, hey, like, America is like, we see a lot of news back home that shows a completely different America. And I was at a hotel that was hosting. people they were watching the World Cup in Dallas. In fact, there was a lot of the, what do you call them, referees in football? Yeah, the refs.

A lot of the rest were staying there. In fact, you know, I think all of them were staying there. Then some other people who were there, we had England and Croatia play. Yeah. And so I started talking to some people about it. And they kept saying, like, Americans are so nice. They've been so welcoming. We just didn't think that was going to be the case.

We love it here. And like I heard that message kind of a lot. The referees are sitting there drinking a coffee, smoking heaters out on the balcony. They were loving Texas. They were loving Texas. I think the same thing happens right now, Jake. I think it's a lot of online discourse where we're just blaming analytics for everything. And the old heads are like, you know, they're ruining the game.

And every single player just doesn't know how to play the game anymore. all they're trying to do is, you know, there's so many blanket statements that get thrown out there. Analytics just being one of them, drive line being the other, launch angle being one. It's like, dude, I get so sick of it. And sometimes I get convinced, like, maybe this is happening. And maybe I'm on the old guy's side. And then whenever I come on these trips and I'm in the trenches with the guys, you realize it's just not that way. It's the same game that it's always been.

you're just struggling for your life at the plate trying to figure it out you might try a different batting stance like do you have some more information that's compiled better in some new terms sure but it's still like dude i just got to freaking find a way to put the barrel on the ball on the pitching side can you create some new pitches and can you track what you're doing a lot better than you used to sure but you still need to locate right you still need to command and if you don't you're going to get sheled it doesn't matter what you do you still have to disrupt timing and you still have to, it's just, it's the same freaking game. Okay. It truly, truly is. A couple of caveats here and there. Maybe the way they're, the positioning is a little different. The way they're approaching

infield in is a little different. You know, there's, obviously the game has changed a little bit, but by and large, it's the same thing. I went last night, dazzled Dan Glad, and had people at his house, lives right by the hotel. And he's as old school as it gets, man. And we got some new school guys on the coaching staff and we're all there together just talking ball and it's the same freaking game so if you're out here and you're one of those people that thinks that analytics have ruined baseball or you're a um a guy that thinks the old school needs to get out of the game and we need to go complete this way you're wrong both sides it is let's work together to make this sport continue to be as beautiful it is as it is and truly if you're in the trenches you know it already is

Yeah, and I don't know, when you look at the leaderboards and you see the guys there, there's rarely something that jumps out that you're like, oh, he's bad. Like, yes, he's been one of the best players in baseball that, no, and I laugh, because you're right, with the pitching shape and

stuff, you can really work on a more effective pitch. But also, my guy Camilo Doval this year, who I, I dreamt about having on the Yankees because I've never seen an arm move like that. Getting rocked. It's all about location, getting ahead of hitters. It's still the same game. You got to trick him at some points. You got to beat them at other points,

and you got to look like it's still the beautiful game. And speaking of, that's where I'm going to send people out. Because I'm going to hit him with the little Lord of the Rings, Trev. special rate right now. There's a guy that was a free agent this year. that any team could have had, it really led deep into the offseason. I'll just say his name. It's Paul Goldschmidt for my Yankees. Paul Goldschmidt had a phenomenal start last year. He slowed down a lot. Worst case scenario when you looked at a stat page was he mashed lefties.

I think he had a decision to make. Did he want to come to the Yankees and be kind of a bench piece? Or did he want more of a playing opportunity somewhere else? And again, I don't know what was full. out there and offered to Paul Goldschmidt. Here's what I do know. Paul Goldschmidt has been awesome. And he's a legendary baseball player.

He's 38 years old. He has 65 and a half career war. He's a borderline, if not Hall of Fame, baseball player, that Yankee fans, we've seen 37 and 38-year-old Paul Goldschmidt. And we love that guy. I can't imagine if we saw 22-year-old Paul Goldschmidt or 33-year-old MVP Paul Goldschmidt. Like what we've seen from this guy has just been awesome.

He's hitting Ritey's so far, or recently at least. He's in a 10-for-27. That's a 370 batting average, a 1-0-O-PS, 11th homer of the year this year in 47 games. He only had 10 all of last year. And Trev, every year, or no, actually we took a break from two years. On Wake and Jake, I have Foolish Bayleon, and we've done an old draft. I think we've done it every three years, and we draft the old guys in the league.

For position players, do you know what the age cutoff starts out with? I think I've seen it 33. 33. Normally we think of these guys, and we see them get those contracts that go to 2036, and we're like, oh, okay. Father time comes for everyone in this sport. Paul Goldschmidt is the third oldest position player this year. Carlos Santana, who I believe has played seven games.

He got hurt and he has been out. Andrew McCutcheon, who was playing a little bit for Texas this year. Negative war. The OPS Plus is pretty tough. It's been tough going for Cutch. Then it's Paul Goldschmidt, who has a 9-18 OPS right now and a Yankees team that lost Giancarlo Stanton, lost Aaron Judge. You're looking at the best team in the American League right now.

And it's 38-year-old Paul Goldschmidt, who is leading the way. I opened it up to go to other olds. I went down to 35. Max Muncie, by the way, jumps off the leaderboard with what he's been doing this year, which is just insane. Then it's Freddie Freeman, Christian Walker's bounce back year. Then it's Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Aronado. Those are the only guys age 35 and older that have accrued one war this year.

Not PCA's four. Not Pa has his three and a half. The game comes for everyone. Somehow 38-year-old turns 39 in September. Paul Goldschmidt has been bawling out. And I don't know, man. He is so fun to watch because he's fighting his body a little bit. Paul doesn't run like he used to.

Even the swings got a little more old man to it, but he's making it work, man. And I don't know where the Yanks would be without him. I'm looking at his baseball reference page right now, 65 and a half career war. That's of the Hall of Fame level right there. He does have an MVP in the bag, two MVP twos, an MVP3.

He can get to 400 homers. He's 17 shy of that. As far as hits, I think if he played, he finishes this year and a full year next year, he can get to $2,500. Yeah, right? Yes. It's very interesting. He more, obviously, war is just a, it's one stat that leads you into the other stats.

More career war than Joey Votto, who I think he's got a Hall of Fame argument. He's neck and neck with Freddie Freeman right now, who I think when you think of, the Freddie, you think, Hall of Fame. Miggie Cab, 67.2, Paul Goldschmidt, 65 and a half. Like, I don't know if he gets talked about like that. The first baseman that aren't in the hall around him, Albert Pooleholz, who will be very soon. Raphael Palmero, who has some connections to some not great stuff.

And then it's those guys I just named. It's Mickey Cabs, who, like, no one flinches when you say Mickey Cab's going to be a Hall of Famer. And I think Paul Goldschmidt is, and I don't know if he fully. gets talked about that way. Nice award. I don't know how you, that wasn't really a Tolkien baseball, but I like that you try. No, dude, I guess I was just trying to spark you because where's my Tolkien baseball been?
