Hello and welcome to talking baseball.
Bo Bichette is a Met.
Kyle Tucker happened.
We're going to talk a lot about ball.
Mostly, Bo.
Mets?
Mets are back.
The Mets are back.
Nolan McLean.
The other Bo, Bobby Bow.
Wow.
From Bo to Bo.
What is going on, Mets fans, talking baseball.
We're live right now.
Let's go.
This is where.
we thrive. Trev is eating some sort of berry right now. The black or the berry, the sweet
or the juice. I've got some food on the way. And to be real with you guys, we just recorded
an hour on Kyle Tucker, the Dodgers, CBA, future baseball, life. And then we said, oh,
boy, Bojas signed. So that episode is going to be out Monday. It's a holiday. You'll have
something to consume from us. Right now we're talking Boba Chet.
and the Mets. Coach Trev, how are you?
I mean, yeah, we recorded that episode. Job well done. I'm in there. I made four eggs.
I had a little bit of ham chopped up. Keto toast and blackberries, salted butter, of course.
And now here I am. I had to eat it in a rush. I didn't even get to enjoy it, but I love
talking ball with you, Jake. So you know what? We decided to hop back on the sticks.
Double duty today. I'll do triple. Hey, Cody Bellinger,
sign. I'll be here, pal. That's the kind of guy I am, and I know you are too, Jakey boy.
Cody, pick a team, pal. Yeah, we live for it. And excited. And the Mets get back in business.
And man, when you add a player of Bo Bichette's ilk, you forget how much that changes, the outlook of the top of that lineup.
Switch, lefty, righty, Lendor, Soto, Bichette. Love that little Tito Polo to five.
follow it.
Boba Chet signs three years, $42 million a year.
Yum.
We're not deferring.
We're not opting out.
We got the tweets are flying live as we do this, that they wanted Beshet for his
competitorness.
Well, I mean, you wanted Kyle Tucker a couple hours ago, but all right.
And then, Trev, there's a ripple effect of this with the Metropolitan's as we started
daydreaming about.
where are they going to go.
Now they got a lot of infielders.
If you remember, they traded for Marcus Simeon to play second base.
So what are we going to do?
A, it's a good problem because you just added one of the best right-handed
contacts bats in baseball.
We completely revamped the infield, the Mets did.
I mean, you got polo at first, simeon at second.
You have Lindor at short, obviously, and then now Bow at
third base. They say he's going to play
multiple positions. You know,
Brett Beatty's got to get in there somewhere. What are they going to do
with Mark Vientos? Is this
Steve Cohen on tilt? All these
questions, man.
But you kind of knew in the back
of your head, Jake, that the Mets weren't just
going to sit idly.
I did it. Not idly
to the leaves of the...
Oh, I messed that one up.
I was trying to do the Lord of the Rings quo. I was trying to do
it. I messed it up. Anyway,
listen. We're not
to sit around and let the Dodgers just go and run away with the National League. This is a big,
big start here. Now, I do think this still lends itself up to what do we got with a young
pitching? Are we going to trade from that? Are we going to go try to get a tariff school? Because
you make a bet like this, a short term with opt-outs, full no trade. It means that you're
trying to capitalize on some sort of window, doesn't it? It becomes that. Like, you got them for this
year essentially. You have to think about it that way. We got this guy for this year. So what does that
mean? What are we going to go try to do? It would not, they're going after scoobble. They have to
be going after scoble. My mind went right there as soon as I heard the news. I did the same thing.
And hey, again, maybe that could be wrong. And maybe, again, Joe Ryan or Freddie Peralta guys
that are out there that I mentioned the Bo Bichette effect to their lineup and how it already feels,
You know, that top four can kind of go with anyone now.
I'd like a little more pop.
But again, that's jealousy of Pete Alonzo and those homers and those RBI.
But yeah, I think the same thing with the Mets rotation, man.
If I, you know, we're all dreaming on Nolan McLean, Team USA and what he can build upon last year.
And I like Peterson, Holmes, Mania, Senga for different reasons for all those guys.
But coming off the year where the Mets saw their pitching staff come up short,
towards the end of the season.
You need another horse.
You need another guy.
You need a Peralta, Ryan.
And then scoobles the dream.
And as you're daydreaming of how the Mets can make this feel different.
A, Bo Bichette, like if we had to make a bet early on or recently, excuse me, of where
Bichette was going, it was kind of looking Phillies.
So, I mean, talk about, you know, that would have been some more NL East and how are the
Phillies going to shake things up a little bit.
The Mets add Bichette, that top.
the lineup is so fun and you're right.
Like they are not done.
And it's just, I think probably what level to the pitching staff?
And are they out on Cody Bellinger?
Are they not?
Like I could see that being the next tweet.
And now their team just got athletic and competitive and flexible.
And how many times do we compliments rosters for having all that?
They could go a million different ways right now, man.
The Philly has got to feel weird.
It does feel weird that Boba Chet is not bad.
in Toronto, although after they signed Okamoto, it seemed like that was out of play anyway.
They kind of pushed their chips in on Kyle Tucker.
We're starting to get more and more information on that, that there were some eight,
10 and 10 year deals out there to Kyle Tucker.
You end up going to the Dodgers.
Wish we could put that episode out.
It was a banger.
You'll get it on Monday.
Bangs.
It bangs.
It's, this is kind of like, we knew this part of the off season was coming, Jake.
We're like, hey, man, like once Bregman goes, things were going to start.
to flow and it really has
and it's kind of like changed the landscape
with the way we've been thinking because we've had our
site set on a certain team for this certain
player but I feel like a most of the time like I
didn't really have Tucker going to the Dodgers
that was like you know in the back from mind that could happen
well he goes there so now what's your next
plan for the Mets I didn't have them getting Bichette
so for the Phillies and the Blue Jays like what do they do next
I don't think the Blue Jays have to do anything to be
honest with you Phillies I think do
I think you can't just run what you got out there.
No J.T. Rio Muto.
You missed on Bo Bichette.
I think you do have to do something because you are facing a window with your team.
The Mets now, I think they have much more work to do,
even though they've had a pretty dang good offseason.
You get Luke Weaver, you get Devin Williams,
you get Polo, Simeon, and now Bichette.
That's a pretty damn good offseason,
but I don't think it's enough and I don't think they're done yet.
It's just it's...
It's a cycle, man.
I, it's interesting.
I think I'm most interested now with what the Phillies do.
Like, what the hell do the, they've added a bunch of, they've added relievers,
and they've added Adelis Garcia.
And they've lost, and they've lost J2 Rumuto.
Right. J.T. Rulmoto is still a free agent.
The two other teams that pop up are, are wearing red, like Red Sox and Boba,
because that was supposed to be their Alex Breggman counter that now there's, I mean, Eugenio
Suarez, but that's a completely different ball player than what you would think the Red Sox would
need. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm right. But man, like, there's some big Red Sox question marks.
There's some big Philly question marks. At the same time, I'm, I guess a lot of eyes on
Philly in an exciting way, because I do think they have some top prospects.
on the cusp that it's just going to be interesting. Do they believe in giving those guys an
opportunity? Do they believe in giving those guys an opportunity for half the season? Or do they think
they need to load up now? Because they're loaded up still. Like that Phillies roster is nasty.
Like if if Zach Wheeler is cleared, the Phillies are still one of the favorites in the NL,
if not one of arguably the second best team in baseball, but they've talked about shuffling it up.
And you're right. The rest of the offseason has been pretty lackluster. Um,
Yeah, I think the two teams I'm watching for the next notifications,
I think are Phillies and Red Sox.
Dahl just sent something to our group chat.
He said the Phillies offered Boba Chet the seven years and $200 million.
He requested last night and they believed that they were going to sign him
until the Mets swooped in.
A lot of swooping.
Bregman, dude.
Bregman was the first domino that fell out of place.
I wanted this to happen in November.
It's just taken until middle of January.
Man.
So this has so many layers to it.
Because again, I just feel like these guys are going to places where like they probably didn't think they were going or like at least we haven't been really on the trail.
This has been a massive like insider miss season, I feel like, or off season.
Don't you think?
Yeah, it's tough for me.
For instance, look at our trade draft.
Now, like, a lot of that is we get, we read articles, we listen to rumors, some of it's like, you know, stuff that we dream up as well.
It's typically we've done pretty well in it over the last couple years.
Like we've been, we've been pretty nails with it.
This year, nothing.
Jolly did get Kyle Tucker to the Dodgers, which is nice.
But I feel like it's just been kind of a swoop season for these teams.
like, hey, like a little jealousy.
Like you saw that dude kiss your crush and you're like, well, you know what?
I'm going to go this way and swoop in on the girl that used to like your ex.
I don't know, man.
This is a lot of drama going on in the off season.
Swoop season, baby.
I think Bob's got our free agency draft.
I'd rather he not show it.
But we got a lot of new names and new faces.
And you could go see these people over at Seat Geek.
Seat Geek.
It's a new year, new you.
Go catch.
There's a couple football games remaining.
I think there's like seven or eight total football games of this year period.
Crazy when you start thinking about things like that.
And Seatkeek, they're the number one rigged ticketing app.

Okay.
So let's do a little Beset here.
Do we think Bichette was ready to be a Philly as of going to bed last night and then Tucker signs?
and it's like, well, I guess I'll take a couple more phone calls.
That's insane.
So we end up getting 42 million guaranteed per year.
I don't think there's any deferred money on it.
Seven years, 200 is less than $30 million a year.
You have the opt-outs.
You have the full no-trade protection.
I think he gets another $5 million if he opts out.
So essentially it's a $47 million guaranteed.
It's wild.
Right?
A paid opt-out.
I think that's what I read.
Okay, we'll double check on that.
Yeah, it says a $5 million buyout, an opt out on opt out can make $47 million a year.
I guess that's where your head goes.
Hey, man, like I have this in the bag for the next three years.
And if I do have another good season, then I could reenter the market.
We'll see how the CBA goes.
I mean, it's an interesting ticket.
We've had to do this a little bit now in the off season, too, because we have this looming
CBA negotiation coming.
What kind of contract do you want?
Is there a world where
after this CBA agreement
player contracts could go even higher for some of these guys?
Ain't going down, Coach?
It has to be the thought because or else you just take,
if you're worried about what's going to happen,
you would take the long-term guaranteed money,
but it doesn't seem like the agents are thinking that way
or necessarily the clubs.
So, man, what does this,
what does this mean for Bellinger?
Is this closer?
Is this good for the Yankees?
There's an argument.
In the brief moments before the signing and before I got on the mic,
I had a few people text in there like,
this is good, right?
I don't know.
I mean, A, the Mets, you know,
Steve Cohen still has superpowers and he still just got showed up a little bit
by Tucker and the Dodgers that if they go Bichette and belly,
I mean, that lineup is getting deep and fun.
And now those young guys on the back end of the lineup with Alvarez or if it's Beatty or whoever they want to tap into, now that just becomes more exciting because you've got so many good MLB regulars that you know what kind of performance you're going to get.
I think you and I, we initially jump to the same area that if that happens, I mean, you know, we've got a pretty good pulse on things.
There's a, there's a Mets pitcher's trade coming.
And I don't know if it's your guy, Joe Ryan.
I don't know if it's Peralta.
I don't know if it's scubel.
They have the ammo for whatever they want.
And I think where I'm starting to get more excited, like, yeah, let's see where the belly
bidding war lands at.
Framber Valda is still getting out there.
Hey, maybe the Mets don't want to trade their young guys and they just sign Framber.
That rotation feels a lot better.
But, man, the free agent pool is now getting thin coach that I think the trade market that we
been waiting for, whether it's Kittel Marte or Scoobes.
That stuff is now live again, which is exciting as a fan perspective, but also scary.
If you're one of the teams, you know, Philly, it's now out there that they were willing to pay
$200 million for Bichet.
So what are you going to do?
Boston, you thought you were getting Bregman.
Your heart broke is what you told everyone.
What are you guys going to do?
my Yankees haven't gotten in the great game yet.
Like, who else is about to join the trade dance?
And is it worth it for the prospects you're shipping out?
Yes.
To get involved.
Oh, man.
Jakey, boy, I don't know where to go.
Bellinger also, I'm trying to do a Bellinger spot right now.
And to me, Yanks need him.
Phillies could surely use him as well.
I don't think the Jays necessarily need him.
He would help any,
any team.
You're right, though.
The trade market is coming.
I think the two teams that really have,
or like three teams that really feel like they're going to be involved are the Reds,
the Mets, and the Red Sox.
Those are the three teams that have like young controllable pitching or young
controllable like major league talent as far as like outfielders with the Red Sox.
They also have some young pitching they can deal if they really wanted to.
They have a lot of starting pitching there.
Those are the three teams I'm looking towards with like,
okay, if you want to make a big splash,
like those three teams are going to be involved in some facet.
Now, do the Brewers pick up a phone call for Freddie Peralta now?
Like, to me, I still don't think that happens.
Like, they'd have to be blown away by a deal.
And I think if you're a, I mean, I don't know.
Would you give up, I feel like every team would give up a lot for Scoobo.
Paralta is great, but he's not scubal.
So do you empty the cupboards for one year of Peralta?
I think you would for scoobel, especially if you feel like you're right on the cusp
and you think that is what gets you over the hump and puts you in a really good position to win a world series.
You do that.
But yeah, I mean, this is we're going to be on the sticks a lot.
next couple weeks, I feel like.
Yeah, I mean, if you recall about a month or so ago,
me and John Boy got in a little trouble on the internet
because we said the Peralta price tag
should be around, if not more than Scootles, because of the money.
It was silly of you.
It's a little bit of silly.
I forgot everyone has an extra $20 million in their pocket.
So that's on me.
That's on me.
I'll wear that.
He could be making 19, coach.
He could.
He could not.
and that's that's probably part of this storyline that yeah i i i would sub the reds for the Phillies
i just in the nicest way to my reds faithful i was at the gym today thinking i think i'm
cincinnati hot so that's something i'm working on um i just think the philly's front office
and my guy dumbrowski um they deserve more credit for being in the mix than i think what
you can assume the Cincinnati reds are just because they have a little bit of
matching depth. Like I'm not assuming they're going to make the wow move where if Philly does it,
when we just found out they had a $200 million bid out for Bichette. I mean, for me,
that says the Phillies are the leader for Catele right now. Well, it's a completely different thing,
though. That's prospect capital versus dollars. Right. But they have some of that. And if they
were in on Bichet, that's kind of. I, I, the thing of the thing of the.
with prospects is we just look at
freaking baseball America's top 100
prospects. You might know a few of them
but internally these teams
are targeting certain players. The guys
that they like, so you never really know.
Two things I want to address. Number one,
all over our chat, I got it popped out.
You know I'm chat, Trev.
Square Water 3, no baseball in
2027, almost certain now. I keep seeing
this lockout thing. Like, no
people. Watch our episode
on Monday. We go over it. We go over it.
Okay.
Second, are you Cincinnati hot brought me to this? Is Joe Burrow actually good looking?
The teeth, he shouldn't have got the teeth. It's interesting. I get it. I get it. I'm never going to
knock anyone for getting the teeth. I could see myself on the teeth train. Show teeth aren't for everybody,
Jake. I was hesitant on Judge. I thought Judge had signature teeth. Um, and then he got the new teeth and
they look great. Um, I think Joe Burrow is good looking. I mean, it's one of those things. It helps that
he is an NFL star quarterback and we're trying to get rid of that so i understand the exercise
but he's tall he's got a clean look to him and it's like a cute like you know mcculley culkine-esque
type vibe that yes i think joe burrow's good look he didn't need the teeth dude i just went to
the dentist and they put all these pictures of me with these teeth it's like bonding and this all
this stuff i took it home to olivia i said what do you think she's like absolutely not
you do not need the teeth not everyone needs it okay let that be a
a lesson. Yeah. It would be gluttonous like those Dodgers. I understand what you're saying,
but I think at the end of the day, like if you feel good about it, if you never have to worry
about your teeth again, good for you. Like knock yourself out. I would mark Joe Burrow down as
hot. And I think he's my favorite. Sorry to your guy, nine, when Burroughs playing great is the
most fun quarterback to watch. Most fun to watch. I won't let you answer that question.
where else do we need to hop i mean is it is it bellinger framber a eugenio like we are now
trev from what felt like a week ago where we're like the board's still wide open the the board's
closing quick i mean after a eugenio it's like baiter uh and then after framber you're in that
chris bassett nick martinez range so yeah if you were looking to get your work done in free agency
it's getting tight.
Clearly, Belly is the big one.
Framber's still sending videos,
convincing teams that he's a good guy.
That's probably the most interesting story of the offseason for me.
Yeah, I think we'll get belly news soon it feels like
because it is, you know, this is part of the equation
and I feel like we always kind of forget.
Like guys want to like know where they're going to play.
Yes, do I want to like wait out the market
and get the best deal possible.
Sure, but you start to get antsy, man.
Like there isn't any internal clock with baseball players.
And when the calendar flips, it's like you kind of like dread baseball in December.
You're like, oh my gosh, like thank goodness for the off season.
I'm here enjoying my time off.
And then January comes and it's just something that switches.
You're like, I need to get to work.
I need to, you know, it feels like it's time to go play again.
I know Belly's got that.
And I know, again, like he's got young kids.
he wants to know where he's going to play.
So does that make him rush into a decision?
Absolutely not.
But it does, I guarantee he's thinking,
seeing all these signings right now and saying like,
I want to sign.
I want to sign.
Give me my best offers right now.
I want to make a decision soon.
That's just the way the human brain works, Coach.
You don't have a big one,
but I'm telling you, if you did, you would understand that.
Big what?
I guess for me, the other side of the human brain,
which you and I are super well versed to talk about.
Reminder, I have the college degree.
That I guess for me, when I think about Belly's situation,
it's everyone mentally has probably the number in their head that they wanted or they've thought of,
whether they're open and honest about or not.
It's, you know, it's one of those even question you play with your buddies at the bar.
Like, you know, how much would it take for you to walk to Dallas?
And it's like, you know, you say maybe a million dollars.
but if someone puts 100 Gs in front of you, maybe you start taking the itinerary a little more seriously,
that Belly's probably had a number in his head.
And by the way, I think the offers that are starting to come in now after a cold stove season,
I think those numbers are probably there or past there that Belly's probably getting to choose.
Like, Bichette just did.
Bichette said he wanted seven for 200.
He got it.
The next morning, he got three for, what was it, a buck 32 of?
a buck 42 and he said actually that sounds fantastic i wouldn't i think bellion is his bag with
do you want the opt-outs or what do you want because i think he can get it that's why like i'm
bullish about baseball right now and like the fact that i like i just don't see a lockout coming like
i understand that there are discrepancies in tv deals and there are some teams operating at a
particular financial
disadvantage. I understand
that, but you got to get
all the owners on the same page
to be able to say, I want to have
a strike, essentially.
I want to lock the players out through the
season. Like,
I just don't see it happening, man.
These contracts are ridiculous.
And the only way you give out these contracts
is if you're bringing in the cash.
And there is revenue sharing.
And like, oh my God.
That gets you excited right there?
You got me excited.
I just tossed my mic.
And I kind of hate my mic because the cord's loose.
I just ordered a new one.
So that's a huge update.
And yeah,
you got me jazzed up.
I guess I was going to counter for the smaller market teams that aren't doing this.
Like,
they're still saying our owner doesn't have the money Cohen has.
Our owner doesn't have the money that.
Yeah,
we went into it on our Kyle Tucker episode.
I hate to go back into it now.
And they haven't heard it yet.
we have, but make sure you guys go check that out Monday. Yeah, I guess for now, so me and
Trev don't have to deep dive on it again. Like I, we think baseball is in a great spot.
We don't think this CBA is the big one. Maybe things will get louder and we don't know.
We don't know what's going to happen. We don't have that. But it, it truly does seem like,
okay, so what would the lockout be because the Dodgers signed Tucker? It's, oh,
we can't compete and win.
How many of your owners,
the first thing they care about is winning?
Because I,
less than one hand?
Yeah, it's,
I continue to go back to the percentage of revenue,
put back into the payroll.
Like,
that's a very telling chart.
I really don't want to get into this again.
I know, I know, I know.
I know.
People really want to get into it either.
It's like so annoying.
I've told this to both sides,
majorly baseball,
and Major League Baseball's Players Association,
which I get told I'm a shill for the NLB,
the Players Association, and the Dodgers.
I'm a Twins fan.
And I've told both of the PA and Majorly Baseball,
representatives from each organization,
that nobody wants to hear about fucking money.
Nobody wants to hear that.
You know what you need to be doing,
providing value to the fans.
And shut up about the money.
keep that enclosed doors.
Negotiating through the media is the worst thing that you can do for your sport.
Okay?
Hmm.
Tell them, coach.
I'm very passionate about that, man.
People do not want to hear that.
It's like bad tact.
It's gross to me.
To be honest, me, like, negotiating through the media is disgusting.
It's loser shit.
Don't do it.
I guess where I'll kind of lands.
some things. Just going back to trade, I just clicked on ESPN article that was guys to get traded.
And I know a lot of people don't hunt out their baseball from Espin. But, you know, other interesting guys are going to come into play here.
Because, Trev, I think another new update from this free agent crop is that a lot of contracts feel better.
Your guy Pablo Lopez from the twins. What if the twins are like, hey, no, we'll keep young, sexy, cheap Joe Ron.
Brian. Pablo Lopez, I'll listen. Like, how good does his contract feel right now? And I think there's a few other guys like that that I'm excited trade season to get going. Like we've had Cardinal salary dumps. I know there's one or two more, but like I think we're going to start getting some real sauce in the trademark.
I do too. Nothing we can do, but wait, coach.
We're going to watch some playoff football.
You're going to be in shy city.
I am.
If you're in Chicago, you see me, it'll be cold.
Well, you know, give me a hug or something.
I don't know.
Any must-dos while you're there?
I know you've got a lot of places that are close to your heart,
but you're juggling a lot of people.
I'll give you one.
I'll give you one because I think it's under the radar.
And if you're in Chicago in the chat,
let me know if I'm off on this one.
I wandered into the Ralph Florens stores restaurant.
one day because it's right by the hotel
maybe the best meal I've had in Chicago
and I'm not saying it's like the fanciest food
I'm not saying it's like
it just was a good meal
cool vibe and like very very unexpected
if you get a chance
it's not like it's not super expensive
also not cheap you get a chance I will check it out
I'm gonna try to go there before I go to the game
I don't even know it's called
the Polo Ralph Lauren restaurant I think
The industry of restaurants in shopping places that are like elevated, like people love the Nordstrom one, I think.
This is completely different from that, though.
Okay, that's fine.
I'm just saying as a very cool vibe, like a vintagey cool vibe.
As a business, I like the construct there.
It looks like the R.L restaurant, Rob's looking it up right now.
Okay.
If someone offers you a malort shot, Trev.
Take it.
I'll take a malort before.
Just throw it in a week.
