Hello and welcome to talking baseball.
A good night to have a beer.
Did we just see the end of a dynasty?
Brewers go up 3-0. Let's talk ball.
Robert Gasser.
Brett Butler, single.
Oh, okay.
Brewers turn to double play after it.
Hello and welcome to talking baseball.
It's presented by Fanatic Sports and Casino.
If you're locking in your baseball bets,
Fanatic Sports and Casino is the place to do it.
Winning hits different here.
I am Jake Storrelli.
That is Trevor Plouf times two tonight.
What a treat.
Rob Choracco is producing.
Dalton Thiele is helping us with all the information from,
I mean, dramatic, emphatic.
That's all I got.
Game three in L.A., the Mighty Dodgers,
lose to the Milwaukee Brewers.
A lot to unpack Trev.
There's managerial decisions.
There's, I mean, we have to talk about what comes next a little bit.
But tonight was a scene in L.A.
How are you doing, Coach?
Well, I'm wearing all black.
And there's only one reason to wear all black.
No.
No.
No?
Maybe.
Yeah, it's a tough one for the Dodgers.
It sure feels like it.
I'll tell you this much.
I'm not calling the end of the dynasty.
That's ridiculous.
because they didn't win the World Series,
their dynasty is coming to an end.
That's not what dynasty means.
Okay.
I mean, I'm worried about us getting too far
in a Game of Thrones early,
so let's pocket that for later.
Because I don't think Searcy would say that.
We'll get into all of that.
We talk a lot of baseball.
We talk a lot of pop culture.
That's usually when people leave and say,
please start talking baseball again.
I think we have to dive in, Coach Trev,
because this was the NL that's been the build-up of this entire season
and these two teams built up for game three.
Let's do it.
And the postseason burns are presented by booking.com,
booking.
Yeah, an official travel partner of the MLB.
Game three with the dynasty to rule them all on the line.
What's that Snell?
Bobby passed some gasser taking on Blake and the Mighty.
Dodgers, top one first pitch.
I'm sorry, Miss Jackson.
Ooh, I am true, Rio.
Solo, dong, it's one-nothing Brewers.
It would stay that way.
Into the sixth, Bobby Gasser had it.
Five innings pitch, zero earn runs.
Snell is locked in.
And there's Will Smith getting jiggy.
The RBI double gives the Dodgers the lead, flips the scoreboard.
It's two to one, but they've got.
out of the inning?
And the Brewers would answer.
Jake Rakes, Bowers is Bowers.
Another dramatic double-digit pitch at bat.
It ends in a home run.
And while your head's spinning, how about a little fortitude
as Garrett Mitchell follows it up with a ding-dong of his own?
It's 4-2.
It's 5-2 on the Terang wild pitch.
Oh, no.
And then of course, you knew Joey Ortiz was going to join the party at one time.
It happened to be tonight.
Brewers, Gasser, Uribe, Hall, McGill.
They take game three, six two final.
And thank you to our partners at booking.com.
Makes it easy for baseball fans to get where they want to be.
Booking.com, booking.com, booking.
Yeah, an official travel partner of MLB,
Major League Baseball trademarks used with permission, coach.
I know where to start.
today. I know where to start
today. First pitch.
Yeah, great start.
Yeah, nailed it right there.
Boy, oh, boy, oh, boy,
oh, boy. You know, we're going to
look back of this and it's going to end up being
a horrible looking line
for Snell and his kind of his postseason.
But he pitched so good until he didn't.
First pitch. So there's a thing.
You know, you talk about the Brewers and
their inability to hit homers. And that was
going to affect them in the postseason.
Well, they've done it. They've hit homers. They've hit enough homers now in the postseason.
I think we've put that to rest.
They just didn't do it in the regular season, whether that was, I don't even know what
the reasons were. They weren't concentrating on that maybe or whatever it was.
They're doing it enough here, first pitch, swinging Jackson Trio.
And I think what they really were doing here, or at least my thought process during,
or right after this pitch was like, they know Snow wants to be in the zone.
He doesn't want to walk people.
So why not go out there and be aggressive to do his fastball?
So all that.
throughout his outing, but Snow was just kind of after that really, really good until he wasn't.
So like my thought process was, all right, you give up the homer, what do you do next?
Like, is this going to be like the start of the unraveling?
Is this going to be an inning in a third outing?
You know, and then no, he like ends up, he comes back and strikes three guys out.
So like, all right, solo homers won't kill you.
But a beautiful swing by Tariot to start the game off.
And, you know, like, it's kind of lead off hitter you want right there.
You want them in late game situations.
They can get the job done.
You want them won nothing types.
You want them to be able to work at bats, run the bases.
He's kind of everything you want in a leadoff guy.
Trev, that was, and, you know, it's where we get all these.
You can't predict baseball and how can you not be romantic about baseball,
although Dodger fans, after feeling that way for two years, don't.
Snell's first homer allowed of the season.
No.
Regular season and postseason, 832 pitches.
He only had nine starts this season.
an abbreviated work.
But yeah, hey, are the brewer's going to have some life?
Is this going to become a home home series?
And the Dodgers are brought to hold serve.
And it's like, bam, there's Churio, who again,
if you've been with us all season and you're a world baseball classic guy,
he's been around all season.
I think that was obviously massive to get the zero off the scoreboard.
On a day where Blake Snell was disgusting,
that if you didn't get him there,
you weren't going to get them until a little bit later.
Yeah, if you just watched like innings two through five, you're like, oh my gosh,
like Snell is he throwing a no hitter?
Has anyone gotten on base?
Like the curveball was nasty.
The fastball was being placed where he wanted it to.
That was the bat in the first inning, Contreras.
It was like three pitch a bat, I believe.
And he walked back to the plate being like, oh, this is going to be a dog fight.
And it was for all intents and purposes.
But the guy on the other side, we haven't even.
even mentioned yet besides your burn.
Like Robert Gasser up for the challenge going up against a two-time
si young guy.
You know, I think a lot of people outside of maybe Milwaukee fans are like, okay, what's
this guy going to give us today?
Like what's the leash going to be like?
And instead he goes five innings pitch, no earned runs.
Not a lot of Ks, three Ks, but a lot of soft contact.
Got some help from his defense, but that's what they do.
You know, just a phenomenal answer to, you know, this is a massive game.
for the Brewers.
We're talking about on the precipice of the World Series
and Robert Gasser comes through.
Yeah, that first inning, I mean, some nice play.
Your guy Luis Lara, again, talking baseball listeners,
we tried to tell you he was going to get involved.
And he shows up.
This whole Brewer's defense, man, again,
it's a tough, want to zoom in and zoom out at different moments.
They made some great plays tonight.
I think the outfield probably showed out the most.
and another inning I want to talk about later.
But yeah, Gasser was fantastic,
and I didn't know what kind of effort he was going to give.
And you even saw the Brewers,
who it ends up almost being their fatal flaw in this game,
just wanted to get him two times through.
Like, that was their goal coming into this game.
Let's get it to that bullpen that's been amazing.
I don't know.
It left them with the first decision of the night.
Are we going to let Gasser go the third time through?
They end up going to your eBay and pulling the plug on him,
which I'm interested to hear your thoughts on the time.
During the live stream, me and me and Papa Joe's,
and maybe this is our fault, getting ready for a potentially five, six, seven game series.
We were kind of like, hey, let, let Gasser go.
Like, have your eBay up, but what if you get another inning out of him?
Because their path the rest of the way wasn't their main three.
Like, I think if you got it there and it's like, all right,
like McGill, Ashby, your eBay, punch it.
They still would have had to figure out a little bit of the work that,
We didn't love it in the moment.
D.L. Hall is like, you know, like an auxiliary part of that crew.
He's not fully in the crew.
He's kind of like you and my friends.
Like, you're not really our friend.
But, like, you're around sometimes.
I guess if we're drunk and need to FaceTime someone.
Say something funny, little guy.
That is not what happens, by the way.
It's out of love, we call you.
He's out of love.
Me, Tyson, Kyle Murphy.
I heard he had a blister, right?
So that helped make the decision.
have we got any quotes on that doll?
They showed the cut in the dugout of him looking at his hand.
So right, that's obviously a factor there.
But I do think this is the way Pat Murphy's been managing during the postseason.
This is the longest outing of a starter they've had.
Like he's been going to his bullpen and trying to protect that one nothing lead.
He's like, I can do that.
I got the guys to do it.
You know, even if, you know, at that point, you're talking you got 12 outs to get.
he's like, I can probably do that with my three main guys.
I could probably run Uribe out there for an inning in two-thirds.
And I could probably run Ashby out there for inning plus
and then get McGill a clean one at the end.
That's probably what his thought process was.
Turns out Uribe comes in, doesn't look as sharp as he has this postseason,
and ends up walking two guys before the Dodgers end up getting that two-run double from Will Smith.
Yes, so that is Uribe comes in the game, and he clearly, again, we've seen this,
and it's kind of the thing we've talked about with bullpen days.
And Trev, maybe part of the theory here is like with all the off days in Wild Card and the Dss,
we don't, normally relievers are pretty rested and pretty sharp.
They're not pitching a ton that once you get to this point,
you've been getting used a lot and the season gets long and they've seen you a couple times.
Uribe comes out, he ends up with three walks in the inning.
and I do think the big pivot point is they have the bullpen up.
D.L. Hall is up out there.
He walks Teosker.
He walks Tucker.
He strikes out Muncie that you then have the decision to make.
Like, okay, I did watch him walk two guys.
I did watch him strike out of Ton.
Or excuse me, Muncie coming in to pinch it for Pahez,
which some of the Dave Roberts managing will get to in a little bit.
Yeah, after the Muncie strikeout, they stay with them.
And we had a little bit of shock on the stream of just like,
I don't seem like your eBay has it today.
It also seemed like Otani,
this was going to be the spot for Otani to go off.
You know, like, okay, you leave this right-hand or into Face him.
I know he's nasty, but he's a little off today.
And Otani's sitting there like, you know,
could put this game, not a way.
Change the whole series.
This could be, yeah, this could be the bat for Otani.
We keep referencing that.
Is he going to get that at bat that changes things?
And maybe he did the last to bet this game.
Who knows?
Time is running out, though.
Anyways, he ends up walking.
Then first pitch, Will Smith base is loaded.
He doesn't waste any time, gets a two seamer drives.
I thought it was a grand slam.
I did.
Ended up being a two-run double off the left field wall.
That ends Uribe's night.
So he only goes to a third of an inning there.
And then that's when D.L. Hall comes in.
And he does a great job keeping it to two-one.
I mean, second and third one out.
You get Kiki to strike out.
He hasn't been the post-season hero that he's,
normally been and also
Tommy Edmund. So, I mean,
that to me was a
massive part of the game where you have a chance
now to at least extend it to
two. You get second and third one out.
You got to get that other run in.
But Kike's not able to do it.
And that, to me, leaves the door
open for what
happened in the top of the seven.
Yeah, and it kind of lost
in translation. I don't know how much it matters
because I think Uribe was getting yanked
either way, but DePaula comes up to
pinch it for Rojas, which then they make the move for Kike to do that.
You're right.
That's runner on third lesson two outs, a fly ball, which the Dodgers had a lot of fly balls
tonight.
That was a game we were playing.
And then Tommy Edmund, again, a baseball player who I love a ton for his versatility
and what he can do on the field.
Treb, I don't know if you hear this one because we hear it in our office because there's a ton
of Gen Ziers.
Tommy Edmund sold tonight.
Like that was
That was a tough performance
It's tough because of each pitch
And every app back can get zoomed in
Or zoomed out so much this time of year
It felt like a lot of Tommy Edmund bets
Were zoomed in
And it felt like they were over quick
And without a ton of battle
Sold, I've heard that word before
I have an 11 year old son
Is he 11 now?
That's crazy
Wow
Is he 11?
I actually don't even know
He might be 10
I got to think about that
He also asked him what Chud meant today
And he didn't really know
He just said it
You know what Chud is?
I don't think I do
Oh well
Ask some of the people that work in our office
I think that's another one of those terms
Where do we go?
We go
Okay so another decision
Different types of managing
Pat Murphy
With the lead
And a little bit of help from a blister
Goes to his vaunted bullpen
Trying to protect
He said 12 outs I got that
Dave Roberts on the other hand
now you have the lead and now you have nine outs to get and i know snell has just done what 14 straight
so i don't really fault him for putting him back out there i will say this i think you got to have
guys at the ready immediately and he did not do that and we'll get to more of like the who came in after
this, but Snell ends up
walking Andrew
Ron, Yelich comes into Pinch Run. At that
point, I feel like
you have your lefty-lefty matchup.
I understand that, but
I don't know. Maybe I, maybe I'm
Monday morning quarterbacking this whole situation because
at the time, I thought about
it, but I also didn't really care that Snell was in
there against Jake Bowers. I didn't. So maybe
I'm eating my words a little bit here.
Trev, I can, I have good
news for you. I
think I have good thoughts on this.
And I do a mini apology to our people.
Our sales team went to work.

So, Treff, you just had the inning that your team has been looking for.
Like, the Dodgers were looking pretty dead, and it's a long inning.
We got a pitching change.
We got a lot going on, a lot of action on the basis.
Snell had been incredible.
He retired 14 in a row, and he looked nasty.
And something that you brought to my attention, because I, like, had Blake Snell feelings
that I didn't know how to, like, put fully words to them yet,
because I kind of didn't understand why baseball didn't live.
love Blake Snell more.
And you pointed out, he gets the worst swings from hitters in baseball.
Out of starting pitchers, I think it's a non-compete.
Like, go look at William Contreras's first at bat.
Like, when he's on, guys are just lost.
The best guys in the world swing at pitches that bounce in the grass on him.
It's wild.
But some of the old school baseball stuff that we're circling back on all of it matters.
He sat for a while.
Okay.
that was his first time doing that.
Check.
He comes out, he ends up walking the first batter,
which is tough, but that's in his reputois,
and Vaughn put up a good at bat.
Fowls off the 3-2 pitch.
Then he's pitching from the stretch
for the first time in a long time,
which that is something.
Every smart baseball person I've ever talked to
swears is a thing.
You know why?
It's probably some of the thoughts you have pitchers
about pitchers you don't need to say right now,
but they are creatures of habit
that when that gets thrown,
off, it can throw them off. I would have had guys ready and going in the bullpen. And I think the
thing that's even more frustrating is, where's Tanner Scott and Edwin Diaz in this game, whether now
or later? Yeah, so later I'll go and I agree. That's kind of what I text in our group chat. I don't
like the bullpen usage here. Like, you got to go to your freaking guys. And look, Roki, he hasn't
had that magic that he had last post. He hasn't really been there. Robleski's not a bullpen guy. He's
started for you most of the year.
Like, I don't, I just think you have, you have, well, Phillips came in, right?
Am I reading this one?
Yes, Phillips comes in after the two homers.
Yeah, so you have, okay, at this moment, if you have Jake Bowers up, I guess you just
pick the guys that you want to go with, like you need to have four of them, whether that is
Evan Phillips, Tanner, Scott, and Edwin.
If those are your three guys, like, they got to give you.
get in the game. They got to preserve the lead. They might have to go more than one. You also
have like Enriquez out there. I feel like those four guys are their main four guys in the
bullpen right now. That's who you should be going to. Whether or not you bring him into face
Bowers, I'm still pretty skeptical on that. Like one walk, you know, okay, the stretch, he doesn't
hold runners on really anyway. Like, doesn't really matter. He doesn't care about that. So, like, I'm still
iffy on like the Jake Bowers thing. But after that, the other moves, the guys he brought in,
I do not like, because you can keep it a one-run game. Yes. After Bowers, he's out, dude. Get him out
out of there. I think Tanner Scott should have been the guy up. We were shocked. Yeah. Tanner Scott
should have been the guy up in the moment. You walk one guy and you think about it. Again,
I said it a million times. I don't necessarily.
have a problem with him pitching the Bowers. After that, I do have a problem with him pitching.
But you got to establish the guys. And like that gets them ready to go. And I feel like if you
want to protect the one run lead, go protect the one run lead. It's really like how many leads
have they had in this series? So it's, I was, I was questioning that. We, you know, Dave Roberts has
done a good job. I mean, last year, I felt like he really earned a lot of respect from Dodgers fans.
And this game wasn't, in my opinion, his best.
Yes, I think you're right.
It is pretty easy to second guess the Bowers at bat.
In hindsight, when Snell had just been cruising,
it's a walk that barely gets away with them that,
I don't know, could Snell have gotten Bowers and two pitches
and a weak pop-out?
Like, yeah, and you'd say, okay, he's been nasty this game.
So that does have a little Monday morning quarterback,
but there also was, I don't know,
there are some other signs of potential
and this is why we're talking about.
I mean, hey, we just talked about
how Milwaukee confidently took Robert Gasser out
after five clean innings.
And again, maybe there's some injury stuff there,
but they're leaning on a bullpen they believe in.
I can't believe he was still in for Mitchell.
I mean, the amount of pitches he threw in that inning
up until that point was the second most he's thrown.
It got him to 99 pitches.
I mean, the other thing I want to mention, that's old school baseball.
Treve, how many times, and everyone's agreed on this?
Like, the geeks don't fight back in a close pressure pack game, 81 pitches is what?
Is that 105 pitches on a loose day?
Like, Snell was grinding and had to be perfect, and he was,
that I do think there could have been another wrinkle in the equation here that,
and dude, look how they used the bullpen the rest of the way.
It kind of felt like the Dodgers were playing for five,
or six games today, which that was shocking.
It does, you know, give you the thoughts of Kevin Cash 2020.
Dave Roberts saw it.
He was right there with it.
So you take Snell out and if the bullpen gives it up, you feel like an idiot.
And it's like, oh my gosh, the history repeated itself.
So again, I think more than anything, it's just directly after the Bowers Homer, he has to be out.
And someone should have been warming.
have been a big decision after he walks Vaughn?
I think, yes, yes.
And I think that's the other, you know,
when we talk about all these guys that are involved with teams now
and like the, you know, what was Jayce Tingler's job
before he got the manager job?
He was like the coordinator of baseball.
There's some title that became very popular in baseball for a while.
They play out all of these potential simulations and scenarios before games.
Like how are we going to attack this?
that I don't know, man.
I just thought coming into today,
if you got six innings out of Snell
and the Dodgers had the lead,
that they were going to have a formula
to bring this thing home.
Like you said, whether it's the four relievers,
dude, whether it was Tanner Scott for 1.2
and Edwin Diaz for 1.1.
Haven't we paid those guys a lot of money to do that?
And aren't we coming off an off day?
And we didn't use Diaz in game two?
Like, I know who I want more than one inning tonight?
Who's that?
Trevor McGill.
Yeah.
Sure did.
So it's, yeah, I mean, I think, again, if you're Dave Roberts, you're looking out with the pen,
and maybe it's not as, and this could be just like his fault, like maybe there's not as a easy of a three, three pitcher grouping or three and a half pitcher grouping as the brewers have.
You know, there's guys that you feel pretty confident up and down.
Brock Stewart's been in some big situations.
I don't mind, like, I don't, I don't think Robleski had a bad outing today.
I don't think, you know, like those guys have shown that they can do it.
But I do think in this situation, pretty much a do-or-die game.
It's like I need my number, like A-1, A-1 bullpen guys, and that's it in there.
And I don't necessarily think we got that tonight.
I don't think we did.
And as much as we can do that in Dodgers and Roberts, Jake Bowers, Trev.
Jake Bowers has the two most impressive at-bats of this postseason against Yoshinobu Yamamoto,
which essentially knocked him out of the game.
And then tonight against Snell,
where, man, he is just grinding in there.
Snell's throwing the kitchen sink of him of, again,
some of the toughest, nastiest,
left-on-less stuff in baseball.
And Bowers, who had an incredible season.
He was second in the NL and on-based percentage.
And by the way,
MIRF dropped a casual like Bauer's playing with a broken toe,
so we can't use them in the outfield anymore.
So welcome to October.
11 pitch home run was the third go-ahead home run,
go-ahead postseason home run on 11 plus pitches at bats.
Okay, Dahl.
Jason Worth, Matt Williams, shout-out.
And four played appearances of 11 pitches or more this season,
including the 12 pitches in game two that, again,
who knows how much Milwaukee has tapped into him,
who knows how much he has tapped into a version of himself.
But an amazing season from Jake Bowers,
and him and Thai France
became our two most fascinating free agents
to watch this offseason for their breakout years.
Hey, if Jake Bowers and this magic continues,
I know the brewers operate a little differently,
but I throw five years, 11 mil per year at him
and see what happens and let's just, let's do this forever.
Let's start doing Bowers beer brewing company out there.
Like the 12 pitch pitch cat, pitch what?
I don't know.
My marketing brain started going there.
I'm sorry.
we're going to say cask
i was going to say the 12 pitch
pack and it's a 12 pack of beers
and it's jake powers
that's just that's just two on the nose
pa
um
tie france by the way
goglo finalist so
put that on his uh
after winning it last year so cool
um
this is why the post season
post season is a beautiful
place
Jake bowers now
forever going forward
will be known as the grinder at bat guy.
Crazy.
And it happened just like real quick.
Like, hey, nice and bad against Yawamoto.
Oh, great a bat against Snow.
Bam, it ended with a homer.
You almost hit one two pitches before,
pulled it down the line.
Usually that means you're going to strike out soon
because you're trying to do it again.
I don't think he tried to do it again, but he did it again.
Yeah.
When you hit a foul ball homer and then you hit the homer,
that's so cool.
It's so rare.
Oh, my God.
Dawn screaming Gabby Moreno 23 at me.
which that just can't happen right now, Dahl.
I know you and you and Ryan Cohn
are having an NL West field day right now,
but that can't happen.
I think Brooks Lee might have done it this year.
Okay.
See, now it's Coddy Clemens.
We got the twins in it, baby.
I think it was Cody Clemens.
Brooks Lee, by the way,
a global finalist.
Back to back, left on left homers
and postseason history.
Ruth Garrig, sure.
Schwaber Harper.
Yep.
Bowers Mitchell.
join the party, boys.
How was he...
Yeah, I mean, Mitchell, that was first pitch, right?
How was he out there for Mitchell, dog?
Crazy, second pitch.
Two pitches, it was two pitches later, a little hangar.
And he, I mean, they both pamped it.
I mean, I'll tell you this.
So if you could do Bowers Homer again, Rob,
we said that Bowers, and this is a popular conversation
we've talked about on here,
he looks between frustrated and confident that made it a sick, sick pimped home run
because there's a half second where you're like, oh, did he pop him up?
And it's like, oh, no, he destroyed that baseball.
Can we collectively agree that, like, the bat drop like this is just so much better than
the bat flip?
I like, to be bat flips are like corny, dude.
Like every once in a while it just happens and it's like poetic and like it's off the cuff and
feels right. I'm not taking away every single bat flip. But like that shit right there,
that's what gets me going. Like with the boys. Okay, a couple things. And I'm spinning. And by the
remind me, I have a future baseball thing. I need to bring up with you baseball because it ties into
this. Yeah, I think you're going to love it or hate it. One, this is not that. But if someone,
every time they hit a homer, just drag the bat to first base, like a scary movie murderer,
that would be cool. You'd have to be pretty damn. You'd have to be pretty damn.
I'm good to pull that off regularly.
I'll get to future baseball later.
I guess what else do we need to close off this game with?
Because after, oh, I have some more managerial snaps.
Okay.
These ones go to Pat Murphy because D.L. Hall comes in the game.
Who you mentioned is kind of like the half in, half out part of this bullpen crew,
and he basically should be in.
Ashby's just mocked him.
I think he's in now?
Yeah, he's been Ashby.
be mocked. I'm sorry for how I talk. There's too much. We need to hire more adults here.
Yeah, dude, you can't be. Like, I don't really know what that means, but like, I've heard it so
much now, like kind of do. Um, that D.L. Hall gets out of your eBay trouble. That now they have
Ashby getting loose. And this is almost gasser your rebate. Like, do I stay with the, again,
injury issues aside, do I stay with the guy who's been doing it? Or do I go to my guy guy? And he
stays with Hall, who these Dodgers haven't seen him. Ashby, I think on the stream, Zoe asked me,
he was like, so what are the percentages like the Dodgers can actually like get back in this?
And I said their best chances if Ashby comes back in and he's not sharp because that's kind of what
Yerebe did because he's been out there a lot and he's been used. They stay with Hall.
He mows them down a quick inning, which that was also. You want to talk about popping a balloon.
like it was already popped, but then it was just gone in that stadium.
I mean, yeah, they did it a couple times.
First pitch of the game, they did it, answering after the Dodgers take the lead right away.
Like they stole momentum and they've done it throughout this series of time.
I think Dalt has a stat on that.
Well, no, so that inning also had the defense I wanted to talk about later because the first one is a tough chopper to Joey Ortiz that he makes it look easy.
And it's a reminder, Brewer's ball, if you're.
you're going to be on their field, you have to play defense.
That there's third baseman that not only wouldn't make that play or wouldn't make it look pretty,
but yeah, that's to lead off an inning after you just went through hell.
The second ball, left field line.
The cheerio, yeah.
Dude, if you got a mid-to-minus third baseman and you got a left-fielder that's out there to not do that,
that inning can look a lot different, especially in October.
and that's where like, obviously the Brewers' wave is hitting full tilt right now,
but there was a, there's a lot of nice plays made by the Brewers' this game.
A lot of, a lot of hard 90s, Trev.
Oh, yeah, Turing almost beat one out the second base.
He did. He almost, and then he did.
Yeah.
I don't know.
Cooper Pratt, three for four, Luis Lara doing his thing out there in the outfield.
Like, these are young guys.
The brewer is, is this the beginning?
Who is Cooper Pratt?
Tell me why it can't be the beginning of a massive Brewer's run.
Everyone is 24 years older, younger.
And the captain, pinch runner, Christian Yelich.
I think he's got, what does he got?
Two more years, though?
It might be three, dude.
It was a long deal.
I did have my first World Series Tom Verducci interview moment where it was like,
who is Cooper Pratt?
Before we get there, let me tell the fine people about Shopify.
Because Shopify has helped sponsor this episode,
and they help basically sponsor our entire company
because they've been with our merch store since day one,
since we had one shirt on the store.
Now we have licensed MLB gear for teams across the whole league, new drops,
and Shopify has us covered on all the stuff.
I have no idea how to do it,
whether it's Google, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram,
chat GPT.
You can just buy our stuff in there.
Please don't ask me how.
You can ask Shopify.
And now with our new Hayday's launch, our new apparel, nice or better stuff, they're in with that.
Our whole catalog, they take care of everything for us so we can do all this other stuff.
So if you ever thought about building something of your own, start your free trial at Shopify.com slash talking.
Treve, you got a Chris Rose.
I don't know if you wanted or not.
Give it to me.
I got five of them coming up here.
Is the series over?
Yes.
Feels it, right?
Yeah.
It just, it's not a lot of life with the Dodgers right now.
Hard to pick it up and win four in a row against this Brewers team.
I believe we're going like a bullpen game tomorrow.
Then you have Ms. on Friday, if necessary.
Yeah, Ms. Scoobel.
which, by the way, I mean, if you've watched end of postseason series,
like, Ms. is going to be spikes on tomorrow if they need to wrap it up and they've got a lead.
I was also thinking who's the Dodger guy that could have been spikes on today?
Was it Yamamoto?
I think.
From what I've seen them do in the past, if they were really desperate, you'd have glass now ready
because he's tomorrow's starter and then you figure out a bullpen day before scoble.
But I also don't.
Yeah, I think it was Yamamoto's throw day.
Yeah, I mean, that guy
Never gonna bet against him
He's like some javans out there
Put a ball on his hand
Um
Gosh, I had something else
I was gonna say about that
I just do think it's over
You start to daydream I guess
Or not daydream
Like you're like legitimately
Like in a deep lucid dream
If you're a Dodgers fan
You're like hey
We sneak this one out
And then we got scoves
And then we got Yamamoto
And then it's one game for our life
Yeah, I think
That's your dream
I think that's part of what's interesting.
This Dodgers team in the Dave Roberts era has never been down 3-0.
Only one guy's done it.
Only one guy's done it.
He's in that dugout.
He's the manager.
I remember.
I think Gabe Kapler on that team, too.
Hot.
Let's get Gabe Kaplan.
Was he on that team?
He was a Red Sock in that era.
I don't know if he's on that.
I gave a thumbs up.
I'll give the thumbs up.
I think that's what's crazy, Tray.
I think coming into this series, you expected the Dodgers starting pitching to be better.
It currently hasn't felt that way.
You thought maybe the bullpens could go similar?
We would have gave the edge to Milwaukee, but I don't know.
Diaz, Scott, and then Roki Vesia, like, yeah, we can put Enriquez.
Like, yeah, we thought the Dodgers were going to have.
The Dodgers bullpen door does not feel strong right now.
Like no person coming out of there feels like exhale.
They're about to get a few outs and we'll be good.
Like that part's been kind of jarring.
I think I don't know.
Like the roles aren't defined that well.
There's good pitchers out there.
There's really good pitchers out there.
But roles haven't been defined.
I feel like some of the lanes they've coming in on,
like aren't like necessarily like the best case scenario for them.
I feel like if there's one guy, I'm like,
damn, this guy's really good.
I think it's like Evan Phillips.
World Series champion Evan Phillips.
I just, you know, like even Diaz,
I know he's been better as of late.
You don't feel great if you're a Dodgers fan.
You throw him out there.
Yes, but he deserves a credit to even Edwin Diaz at his best,
which he's put up some of the best reliever seasons ever.
He's had, you know, he'll start an inning with two walks,
and then he finds it and it's over that I get what you're saying,
but also especially now that there's no leash.
Like if you're going to go down with the ship,
I mean, we haven't seen Edwin Diaz in the series.
Edwin Diaz did what?
Signed the richest free agent contract for a lever ever, right?
Per year.
Per year, highest A.A.V.
Trevor Miguel, who seems unhittable,
is making 4.7 this year.
He's ARB eligible next year,
and then a free agent after in 2020.
So, like, that's just the brew crew.
Let's get into some loser ball for a second.
I see McGill and I'm like, yes, he's a very good reliever.
You see McGill and you see arguably the baddest man in the sport.
Like, what am I, what's the disconnect from me seeing an eight and a half out of ten
and you seeing like a ten out of ten?
What did our guy, AJ Minter, in the night shift do when they came onto the mound?
Is that the team
Drop?
That's what it feels like
when he comes on the mound.
This guy is like
there's not a scared part
a scared bone in his body
if you will.
I just feel like he's got the makeup for it.
Also, you know what I like my relievers to do?
Not let guys on base overall in the year
during the regular season.
0.89 whip.
Doesn't walk guys.
He looks dominant to me.
I don't know. Has he not?
No, I mean, he has, I guess you've always been, again, not that I've been low on him,
but your eyes have lit up talking about him all year.
The last time he's giving up a fucking run, dude.
I'm going to go look it up right now.
I'll pretend I was down on him, but I just know you like him.
I didn't know if there was a Trevor.
Okay.
It was September 18th.
You gave two runs.
It's fine.
Dodgers, it's very easy with them down 3-0 for us to be critical.
I don't it feel kind of sluggish and I mean part of it's tied to Otani literally being hurt and looking sluggish but
I don't know maybe the ages are getting in my head a little bit but it feels I don't know it's a
definitely a different brand of baseball than what the brewers are you know when you're looking at
them and then the Dodgers it's a different brand of baseball the crazy thing is Will Smith gets the
big knot today uh-otani walks and gets another hit at the end of the game and says okay these guys are
finally getting going. Can you, can you get this season to go another game? So like, then it's like
everybody's back together. Starts tomorrow, pop. Starts tomorrow. Like, I say they're dead and the more
more I talk about it. It's like you can't, you can't say that and make sure if you clipped it
before Kev, you put this in too. Yeah. You can't. I have to retract that because this is the back to back
chance, dude. And they deserve a little bit more respect for me.
I think, like you said, well, so Shohei, he's hurt. There's a debate. Should he be in the
lineup? And you're looking at the stats and he gets a hit by pitch and a hit late. 113 exit
Velo. Okay. Let's, let's see.
John Smolt says something about that. He's, oh, wasn't the perfect spot for him to get a hit.
I'm like, all right. Yeah, that was, I did catch that. And it's just like, okay. Yeah, it was
inside so he was able to get his bat to it.
Sometimes, I don't know. That man
toes the line for me between brilliance and
what are you saying?
Will Smith, and this is funny, and again, he was heard
earlier this year and who knows who's dealing with stuff
this time of year, but, you know, show hey that there's been a whole circus
around if he's all right. Will Smith's not even on the interstate.
I think after his hit, he was hit in 077. So it's just
one of those, we're in small sample sizes, we're seeing some of the best
pitching a little bit of bad luck and your swing's not right, you'd be in the bad place real
quick that, yeah, if those two kick into gear, if they can win one game where, you know,
maybe Milwaukee is a little more conservative with their pitching, and then scoobles back on the
mound.
Like, this can have a cycle back.
I just do think what Milwaukee has been better at every facet of the game.
I'm starting to think about these pitching matchups now.
Hey, man.
If they win tomorrow, if they win tomorrow and you're able,
and we know what Snell look like tonight,
if they can just, you know, stop the long ball
and Jake Bowers doesn't have a miraculous event.
I'm getting, okay, percentage wise, what do I give the Dodge?
I mean, the brewers are so damn good.
They might just freaking step on, I don't want to say what I was going to say,
because I feel like it's really gory, like step on their neck.
You're notoriously bad at percentages too,
so I'm horrified to see where you land this.
Seven and a half.
I think you did good.
Okay.
I think you did good.
Is that good, though?
No, I think, well, I guess my biggest fear, like Dave Roberts said scuba and Yamamoto are off the table for tomorrow's game, which, I mean, part of me gets that, but there's another part of me that's like, guys, it can end tomorrow.
And I know it's one of the lamer animal comparisons, but like, right now the brewers are in shark mode.
they smell blood and like, dude, the look in those guys' eyes, it's all that shit that Pat Murphy's
been talking all year of how they need to get better.
And if you need to be better every day and if you get back and you get a chance to play these
guys, you got to want it more.
And like old school sports stuff, we were told doesn't work in baseball.
They have that look in their eyes.
Contreras behind the plate is starting to peacock.
His feathers are coming out a little bit.
Like, I think he caught a foul tip and showed the batter on his way out.
Like, is this what you're looking for?
Like, the boys are bopping at the highest level.
He's been doing that on the, on the ABS challenges too, just like walking off.
Yeah, you're out.
Yeah, look, they're young.
Yeah.
And they're, you know, I saw, okay, Dallas Braden made a really good point.
I feel like we've said this on our show, too, but I just saw this clip of him.
So shout out Dallas Braden, my guy, my Stockton brother.
he goes, you know, when guys get contracts,
they go, there's one of two ways they can go.
One way is, hey, now I'm set,
and I can just kind of focus on the game,
and I can be my best version of myself.
The other way is, hey, I'm set,
and I don't really got to do anything anymore.
I'm not saying the Dodgers are like that,
but they have won two World Series championships back to back.
Things are pretty good.
if they lose this series,
they're going to be doing just fine.
The Brewers, on the other hand,
got swept by the fucking Dodgers last year.
They haven't won shit.
These guys are absolutely hungry.
They want to beat the Dodgers,
more than the Dodgers want to beat them.
I think that has been,
that is clear as day in this series.
And sometimes it is that young,
fuck you attitude that changes things.
And I think that's the energy.
it's giving fuck you energy as the young coach and if i would add anything to that recipe
again this sounds corny but like this team and i think they're every day play for each other
slash try to do the right baseball thing which again my team genuinely does not do that they
think if you just play baseball that the numbers sort themselves out and your 22 home runs and
your 660 OPS is what it is. This team is spitting in the face of that saying like, hey, if there's
a spot where you need to put the ball and play, put the ball in play. Like, they're playing baseball
the right way and it sounds so dumb and cringy, but we're also coming from a decade of ball that it
was kind of said, no, you can't do that with baseball anymore.
Dude, we can go on for an hour about this, about all the backpedaling that we're getting
from people right now.
It's insane.
It's insane.
We're like changing the definition of like a lot of things that have been really pertinent
in this game.
As you said, over the last decade.
And it's like, well, it's always just been information.
Now these, it's a different game now.
It's like, oh, that's exactly what everybody's been trying to tell.
you this entire time there's not just one way to do it and there's the the back peddling's crazy
right now and i'm not even you know i'm not like an old school baseball player in that regard i'm not
no i have i have i have tried so hard to bring both sides together it's crazy i do want to say
this and i think i just forgot what i was going to say but i'm going to get it back here
three two i didn't get it back okay darn it if you want to
want. Well, I guess some people could be screaming at us right now because what did happen today was the Brewers hit three home runs.
They have five home runs this series and the Dodgers have zero, which, again, I could also spin that.
Did you find your thing? Because I'll just let you go.
Yes. But it has nothing to do with the game. So if you want to get your point off.
No, no, get it off.
Okay, so another added to the binder of what we're going to do with our organization.
We're going to sign, guys, no one's going to know the length or the contract amount.
Okay, that's not going to work.
It is. It's going to work. It's going to work.
Because every year at the end of the year, we're going to announce, actually, yeah, he is signed for next year.
And that's how we're going to let people know.
But it's not going to breed contempt within our organization.
Amount of years.
I think the salary they need to know and for like transactions.
behind the scenes, they know that.
Maybe that's not that good of one, all right?
But I do want to have an episode this off season about all of our things.
And my favorite one that we've come up with so far was mine.
No, no big deal.
We're not going to know your age or your weight.
That's my favorite one.
Nobody knows.
That's our Jerry Blevins clause.
Treve, let me tell you my future baseball idea.
And whatever else we need to get off about this, we got a game tomorrow.
It's brought to you by National Car Rental.
If you ever notice how some people have travel figured out,
they're on the fast track and already in the driver's seat
while everyone else is still checking in.
Kind of feels like they're winning at travel,
and honestly, they are because when you rent with National Car Rentals,
you show up feeling like a winner before you even get to the game.
And winners know something great is waiting for them in the on-deck circle,
like an effortless car rental experience.
Nationals Emerald Club, you skip the counter, choose any vehicle,
and the Emerald Island go straight to the car you actually want,
traveling on your own terms.
That means more speed, more choice, and total control.
roll over your trip the way travel should feel because renting when National isn't just about from
getting point A to point B. It's about arriving like a winner and driving off like one to when it travel,
rent today and national car.com. All right. Let me hit you with my future baseball and let's see if this
ends up in another 45 minutes or not. Something. This is an old video game trick and I teed up with that
while also saying a lot of old video game stuff has come pan out like basketball shooting threes,
end-of-game Madden stuff coaches get killed for anyways
in that Snell at bat
it's grinding we get to pitch 7, 8, 9
3-2 count
I think there's a future baseball world
where we go to the bullpen for the 3-2 pitch
okay think about this Trev you're the hitter
you've played the game
Snell you just follow off pitch 8 of the at-bat
it's a full count
and Dave Roberts walks out and goes, Tanner Scott.
One pitch from a new pitcher you haven't seen?
That sounds horrific, dude.
For who?
Both.
Yeah.
Hey, if you're a picture...
It's like murder ball.
If you're a pitcher that can throw a strike, it sounds awesome.
Like, if you throw a nasty slider and they only get one look at it, you're done.
Put it in our binder.
Okay.
It's the back of the binder.
It's one of those...
Put it in the binder.
I'm fine with it.
I'd love to run it past.
some Schill Walters and Gerardis
and get some votes on it.
But I think there's something there.
I do want to point out
because I think there's a lot of
Ivy Leaguers
yelling at the screen right now. We get a lot of those
in our fanbiz.
Cleveland.
L.A.
Tampa and Milwaukee
are very much
heavily analytical teams.
Correct. They have some of the
highest number of
people in their R&D departments, and they've been doing this a long time.
So what I'm saying about all of this is good teams, the smart teams, look at it as information
and then how to deploy it on the league in any given year. It got to a point where maybe dumb
people were using this information and being like, oh, we hit ball over a fence. We don't
care strikeout. We don't care
defense. Dude, more homers better.
Yeah, Homer better.
That's a good, that's my Neanderthal voice.
So like,
maybe, and we'll just, I can just keep going
on this, it's just in my mind right now, maybe
we had dumb people
who, like, were acting smart.
Because these guys, I mean,
that's our show's tagline.
Yeah, I guess.
Rays, guardians,
and brewers, like, not
home run hitting teams. Like they haven't been the entire time. I swear to God, dude. I'm still playing.
I'm still playing. It's 2015, dude. And our guy, Mikey Adonacio, yeah, told me, I said that I said, I'd be a great brewer.
Give me on that team. He goes, you know what? Power is overrated. It's too expensive.
And I was like, well, I'm going to get paid. Hell yeah. I hit for power. Anyways, but that was the thought process.
that long ago.
Right.
Not long ago.
So it is about you have information.
How do you use it?
Yeah.
Because you can use information for dumb things, which I think a majority of the league did
for quite some time.
And now we're seeing the smartest teams in the league go back to fundamental baseball
because all the dummies got rid of fundamental baseball.
And this is their zag when everyone zags.
End scene.
Hey man.
It's been part of my Rockies.
rant for years. It's, hey, Noah always works. Defense and speed is always going to be there if you can do that.
And the four teams you mentioned, I think they're at least the top five out of pitching teams,
which we've admitted from the start the analytics has done the best job on because you're measuring
stuff and changing stuff instantly that we can, we know adds up. Basically, the other side of
the ball you have to hit it that hitting a home run is the hardest thing to do in the sport,
especially look at the pitchers who pitch today that I don't know I think I think again as the game starts to change and if Milwaukee does do this teams are going to look at their team and say well can you play plus defense can you run the base as well and hey hitting's hard maybe if you get a good two o count you can hit one but what if we need you to hit a fly ball I don't know we're starting to get in the deep end what are you reading right now Milwaukee 28th and homers this year tied with tied with tied for
for second to last with the Angels.
Guardians one above 27, Tampa Bay raised 22nd.
And hey, I'll say it again.
I think these four teams, if you did top four organizations at pitching,
I think they get it.
Will you freaking guess the worst home run hitting team this year?
You might know it.
Is it Toronto?
It is Toronto.
Yeah, I figured you might know because they're in your division, but wow.
Well, dude, I said a lot last year.
They had magic, and that magic.
Oh, we got yelled at for that, coach.
Hey, man, I'm fine with it because I was 100% right.
And maybe that's where this sport can be sick.
It can bounce back next year.
But wild.
Game for tomorrow, Brewers going for the sweep.
There's also a 1 p.m. Cleveland, Tampa game.
Buckle up.
Griffin, Jackson, Gavin Williams.
kind of you and me out here.
And then it's going to be glass now and whatever the brewers want to throw at you.
So buckle up.
It could be the end of the NLCS.
It could just be getting started.
And a pivotal game three in Cleveland.
Thank you, everyone.
Shout out Chris Rose, dancing with the stars.
Go listen to some baseball today.
Have you heard about that yet?
Like, I don't...
Oh, yeah, I heard everything.
Crazy.
Jake sucks.
I talked to him this morning.
Dalton Feet.
He had to walk a mile.
He was sweating in his suit, dude.
Rob Chiraco.
Remember that time you saved his life?
I did.
Day five of mentioning Giggly Squad.
Yeah, we are.
You got Dalt really good with that.
Which one?
Giggly Squad.
We're going to run into them somewhere.
Soon.
I know it.
