Starting point is 00:00:01 Hello and welcome to Talking Baseball. The Milwaukee Brewers are going to the World Series for the first time since 1982. The A-L's playing baseball. The Dodgers are not. Dustin May. Ryan Braun. He was in the house tonight. Wow, the brawny man.
Starting point is 00:00:29 Hello and welcome to Talking Baseball. It's presented by Fanatic Sports and Casino. If you're locking in your baseball bets, Fanatic Sports and Casino is the place to do. do it. Winning hits different here. Speaking of winning. Trevor Plouffe out in L.A., myself, Jake Storelli, Rob Chiracroko, and Dalton Feeley as the Milwaukee Brewers. What? They bust out the broomsticks in L.A. Insanity, Coach. It's one of my taglines. Sports is the best reality television because my goodness, what happened to? tonight. Crazy. Crazy. Crazy year, Coach Trev. How are you? I'm doing great. Really fun game to watch,
Starting point is 00:01:16 and I'm happy we got, we got this. It could have been a brewer sweep them. Nothing good. They just kind of run it, but show hey, being back was awesome. And then, you know, the, the brewers have just been answering and answering and answering. So a great series. I'm excited to talk about that. We still can't forget about the other series, which is also going on. is also great in the guards and rays. So a lot of stuff to get to. It's a Thursday night. And I'm feeling a little froggy.
Starting point is 00:01:46 I am. I just texted Yelly, like, where are we going tonight? We'll see what happens. Let us know. Let us know. What's the percentage that I'm out there tonight? I think there's an honest, and I tried to pry you on this before I end a little bit.
Starting point is 00:02:03 I think there's a 10%. I think if Yelly was like, be here at 11.30, 30. The boys are bopping. We'd love to have you. I think you'd look around and be like, well, fuck. I don't know. No, if he said that, I'm there, coach. Right. I'm saying there's a 10% chance of Yelly saying something in that realm. He's coming to pick me up. We're on our way down. Shout out Hassan.
Starting point is 00:02:28 Yeah, I mean, Petey Halpin. Are you kidding me? Crazy day of baseball. A 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. The Dodgers are out. The Brewers are one more chapter away from, I mean, one of the best sports stories I feel like, I don't know, baseball's seen in a while. Any sports team has seen in a while? I guess Indiana football.
Starting point is 00:02:53 Nobody cares, Jake. Let's get into what the people do care about. And Coach Trev, I think we're starting off in beautiful L.A. Take the 5 to the 405. My goodness. In case of emergency break glass now as Tyler and the Dodgers, their final hope while drone number 55 would hope to send Milwaukee to the World Series in the second. Turn the page. Andy Paez with the RBI single.
Starting point is 00:03:29 He's kind of been the only one doing it until I'm feeling bump. Oh, Tani, Homer's three run jacket. It's 4-0-0 Dodgers. But in the 4th, Jake Bowers. Ground Rule double. How about the fortitude to make it 4-2? And then Hamilton wasn't going to miss his shot. RBI single.
Starting point is 00:03:57 Jake Rakes with the walk. And then this M-Fer, Chris Rose's son looking, Garrett Mitchell, left on left yet again into the seats. and then David Hamilton does it in the ninth. They go drone to May to Jojo, what do you know, no, Romero, and Ashby for three as Milwaukee. They win six four and they sweep the 2026 Los Angeles Dodgers.
Starting point is 00:04:39 Speechless. Yeah, man. You know, the way we've seen the Milwaukee Brewers play, all year long. It's maybe not surprising they sweep a series, but against this Dodgers team, I think that's where the surprise comes in.
Starting point is 00:04:56 They're so good as well. I don't think they really showed it this series because the Brewers just kind of outplay them in every single damn facet of it. But these were two really, really good baseball teams going at it. And right now, just thinking about,
Starting point is 00:05:11 yeah, like Brewer's getting swept last year, the maturation from that, you know, them with a chip on their shoulder, answering, It's pretty special, man. It really is.
Starting point is 00:05:21 First Pat Murphy quote has leaked. They may have a bunch of Hall of Famers, but we have a bunch of gamers. And the gamers won this week. I mean, my God. It's crazy. It's crazy. And, hey, man, I'm not going to get into Cheerio and Terang's careers yet.
Starting point is 00:05:40 But, man, you're right. It's amazing. It's kind of the sports stuff that, I feel like a generation has lost is pretty dramatic, Jake. But yes, like they put it on the map after last year. No team has gotten swept the year before and then they swept the other guys the next year. This is a first, like legitimate. And between all the small market, big market and all the CBA talks we're going to do,
Starting point is 00:06:07 what the Milwaukee Brewers have put together, it's kind of unreal. It was everything. They started at homers. They were still moving guys over. they were still playing defense. There was probably like six plays in this game tonight where you're like, well, okay, they made that play. It looked easy, but it wasn't.
Starting point is 00:06:24 And if they don't make that play, what would the Dodgers do with the extra 90 feet? We'll never know because they always make the play. Cooper Pratt had a bunch of them. The last ball to Toreo out there from Kiki. Like he ran it down. If he doesn't run that down, Shohei Otani's up.
Starting point is 00:06:42 It's, I mean, they really were a complete base base. team and they've been that way throughout the playoffs but especially in this series. Yeah, I mean, these guys, there was a ball that Terang went over to shortstop because that's what he likes to do. He ranges to his rights so well. And he, I think it was, maybe it was Mokey Betsy throughout. And at end of the inning and Joe Davis, like, just didn't really say anything about it. I'm like, dude, like, that's an incredible play right there.
Starting point is 00:07:11 And we, and I think he threw it in the dirt and Bowers picked it. Like they, they just, they make the plays, dude. They make the plays. They get the hits. They move the runners. They pitch. Pat Murphy pulls the right strings. It's like tonight when we're wondering, what the hell is he going to do?
Starting point is 00:07:26 He's got 12 outs to get now. What's he going to do? That's what I kept thinking. And Jojo Romero comes in and does it. And then it's Aaron Ashby. And we don't see, I didn't think we were going to see your rebate tonight, but damn well thought we were going to see McGill to close this thing out. And instead he just leaves him out there in the pen.
Starting point is 00:07:42 Like, no, like that you were yesterday. I got my guy Ashby, who's looking like he's, no one's going to hit him. I don't know, man. It was awesome. Trev, you already added it to our future front office binder. If a pitcher looks really good, maybe pitch them until they can't pitch anymore. Let's go through the game a little bit, and then we can do both sides, the flowers and the funeral. Okay, tagline.
Starting point is 00:08:10 And it's all brought to you by Fox 1. If you're going to be watching baseball the rest of the way, MLB on Fox and streaming on Fox 1, the postseason is rolling, and Fox 1 has your front row seat, every walkoff, every bullpen decision, yep, every series of the test whether team is built for the World Series. And speaking of, Fox 1, MLB on Fox, all the marquee matchups, lights out performance, Fox 1 is your home for the MLB on Fox, live as it happens and on demand. and they have the World Series people. Not a highlight package, not a recap.
Starting point is 00:08:45 The actual games live as they unfold, at home are on the go, live or on demand. The race to the World Series is on never miss a moment by watching MLB Live on Fox One stream now. So, Trev, we always do the where to start and it usually lands on the starting pitching. Glass now comes out and hey, if you're... And let's be honest, like let's do real talk.
Starting point is 00:09:08 I think there was a lot of side combos that were like, hey, the Brewers look so much better. I think they just are better. But if the Dodgers win today, you know, scoble pitches tomorrow. And then it would be Yamamoto. And that there was those convos happening, that you're thinking about like the heart of a dynasty and a champion and all that good stuff.
Starting point is 00:09:32 And the first play of the game, Glassnow gives up a hard ground ball to third, bounces off Kike and goes to Muki at short, and they get the out, and you're like, okay, the Dodgers and something that I thought was interesting as I was listening to some analysis today, they were like, the Dodgers haven't felt good this entire series, which is credit to the Brewers. A little Kamalae, they had a lead in every game.
Starting point is 00:09:57 Is that true? They had a lead in every game, so that's kind of a decent feeling. But they were even saying, like, the Will Smith double, just missing being a homer, and then they score no more runs at it. like the Dodgers, the train never got momentum that even like this play to start the game and then Glass Now gets out clean, you're like, okay, Dodgers have a little bit of juice. Well, it's, yes, yes.
Starting point is 00:10:20 I definitely had that thought in the back of my mind, but that's from years past. That's not from anything we've seen this series. They've built up trust with everybody that watches baseball. Obviously the roster is great. The names are great, but they've won back-to-back years. And they shouldn't have won that World Series last year. But they did. Like, think about that.
Starting point is 00:10:40 So, like, all of us are basically thinking the Dodgers are inevitable. If you watch the series, I get they had the leads in these games, but it never felt safe. And the Brewers felt like they were in control the entire time. So, like, that was kind of my thought process on it. Like, it's almost fan fiction. Like, oh, yeah, the Dodgers are going to come back and Shohay's going to have a huge part of it. And he kind of did here. But what you're talking about, like, why the train never left the state.
Starting point is 00:11:07 for the Dodgers, I think it relates to what I was just saying about the suffocation of the defense, like making those plays, like not, not messing around or like I know there was errors made in this series. I get that. But there were a lot of like borderline, very difficult balls hit, whether it was to the infields, they just made the play. And that stops the rally before it even gets started. I think we saw a lot of that from them. Yeah, I mean, you mentioned Pratt that a couple of his plays jumped out and all the outfielders flying around. You're right. You can go around the field. Contreras, the effort he put behind the dish between blocking balls and ABS. He was fantastic. In the second inning, again, Glass now goes one, two, three.
Starting point is 00:11:59 And the Dodgers got some action in the first. They get action in the second. Kyle Tucker, actually, you know, if you're looking at Dodgers that had a good series, I think he's maybe the first guy you've mentioned. It ends up with Shohei Drone. Kind of didn't have it. And that seemed pretty apparent early. And, you know, the crazy part with postseason baseball,
Starting point is 00:12:17 if you don't, that's kind of it, pal. And maybe we'll see you next time. Shohei hits the three-run bomb. And it is majestic. Dustin May tries to get it down and in, which he did earlier in the at bat. That one doesn't get to the same spot. Down and into any lefty,
Starting point is 00:12:34 never mind a generational lefty. And man, you're right. Even if you're a Dodger hater out there, I mean, seeing kind of the release from Shohei that's heard everything the past 72 hours, him, you know, thinking that maybe this can be the start of something special, it was an impressive moment. At that moment, in time,
Starting point is 00:12:59 I think a lot of the thoughts about the Dodgers coming back like, oh, shit, here it is. it's going to happen because they need show hey to go they need the top of that line i think dave roberts puts show hey at the top he's got him he's got mooky he's got friday there's three hall of famous for you right there pat murphy um and so he hits this bomb it's four nothing and yeah the wheels start to spin a little bit but we've just seen it man we've just seen it these guys answering back answering back and when they do answer they don't give up any more runs I mean, that's all they got, Coach.
Starting point is 00:13:34 That's all they got because the bullpen was that damn good. I don't mean to jump over all the endings. But, yeah, I mean, again, at that moment, things were good for Dodgers. And those thoughts were keeping in my mind. But at the same time, the series, again, just felt like they were going to be in it no matter what. Yeah, and you and I, you know, especially an episode like this, I mean, both of us have like a little bit of ADD in there that we're going to hop around just a little bit.
Starting point is 00:14:02 You are right. Like, if you look back at this and if Dodger fans are looking for solace, like, wait, the runs we got were off of drone in May. Like, they're kind of not the Brewer's trust tree. So, you know, I know when the Dodgers swept the Yankees, it was looking back at the game the Yankees won and that was like a Dodgers punt day, essentially. Something there. Glass now, clean through the third.
Starting point is 00:14:27 He comes out for the fourth. Tariot pop out. walks Terang and then he's out of the stretch and he was looking a little less sharp it's tough to tell I mean he's also Tyler Glass now but that's a 3-2 pitch to Terang that that could have sent the inning in a lot of ways
Starting point is 00:14:43 and then kind of the Brewers Bash Brothers with back-to-back ground rule doubles Bowers and Contreras and Bowers excuse me that when it got to 4 to 2 man okay so the honest conversations everyone's happening when that turned 4 to 2 everyone starts looking around and is like, wait, they're not. These MFers aren't going to do this again, right?
Starting point is 00:15:06 They did. They did it. They did it. What of that have happened there? Yelich and Mitchell ground out after that. That's right. So they don't get the job done there. It's four to.
Starting point is 00:15:23 Yeah, so that was at. Bottom four. Okay, so they score in that fourth inning. Bottom four, it was. It was. Kike hits him at the middle, and that's when Tereng ranged, almost a short sub-side, short hops with though, Bowers picks it, inning over. Smoket by Bowers.
Starting point is 00:15:38 Whatever. But like, Shohey's coming up next if he doesn't make that pick. Right, that pick. They smother the rally right there. That's the kind of what I'm talking about. Again, like in the moment, doesn't seem like much, but it's just, I think as far as momentum goes in a baseball game, like plays like that don't get a lot of the hoopla, but it was a great play. I don't know. I marked that down.
Starting point is 00:16:00 Trevor, I think that's a fantastic point. And I think for those that listen to us all the year and hear us have our defensive, like we still don't know what to do with defense because literally we have two defensive stats that people lean on and sometimes they'll say a guy is good and sometimes they'll say a guy is horrible, that we jokingly during our streams have been doing the thumbs up test for defense. Hey, is Bryce Terrang a good defender? Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:28 Okay. Okay, scouted. That, yes, I currently think what you're saying, I think defensive numbers don't quantify properly because you're absolutely right. Like the plays the Brewers were making, not all of them were special 10 out of 10 star the card, but there's enough 8 out of 10 plays that,
Starting point is 00:16:49 yeah, dude, not a lot of second baseman make that play and make that look easy. Not a lot of first baseman make that scoop that the accumulation of that has made this team quite literally better than everyone else. Yes. Run prevention is their main part of their game, but I guess they can score too with anybody.
Starting point is 00:17:08 They have it all. I think if you're Dave Roberts and the Brewers right now, you're probably regretting in the fifth inning. Jesus. Still dramatic. In the fifth inning, they send Glassnow back out there, which, okay, a couple things there.
Starting point is 00:17:24 He is Tyler Glass now. You're still up two runs, but this is his playoff elimination game. He was showing, it seemed like he was on a decline, whatever that meant. And he lets the first three runners reach base, 7, 8, and 9. Oh, just 8, 9. Yeah, he gets one out. Then if Freelick walks, he steals second during Hamilton's at bat.
Starting point is 00:17:46 On the immediate next pitch, Hamilton singles back up the middle. So now, all of a sudden, it's 4 or 3. So another example of things they do well. Everyone knew that Freelick was going to try to steal there. Everyone in the building, he picked the right pitch, he gets the second, base, David Hamilton drives him in. And that is when Glass Now gets pulled. He ends up going four and a third. He's got four and runs, six K's. So not a great overall line for him. Then Evan Phillips comes in after that, gets Tariot out. And then I thought it was a really
Starting point is 00:18:14 interesting move. They have first base open. He gets the 3-0 on terrain, and they intentionally walk him to face Contreras, which is the second time that they've done that. And look, it's, I get, you're getting your match. You're right on right. You're already down 3-0 in the count. contraris burned him in game two because he got that go-ahead rbi single and that one when they did that uh he gets the 3-1 takes a massive hack on that fastball down the middle yeah uh misses it and then a 3-2 breaking ball ball four bases loaded and then all of a sudden it's our guy alex vessia who we haven't really seen much of him he comes in and our guy jake bowers is up man and the abats that he's been putting forth in this series are our stuff a legend they're gonna be talked
Starting point is 00:18:59 a lot about in Milwaukee for years to come how much he stepped up, got him to their first world series since when, 1983, I believe it is. 82. Cheesh. And Trev, he was just named NLCS MVP. Come on, man.
Starting point is 00:19:14 Come on. Come on. That was cool. That's cool. He's a good dude. I had a great shout with him when I was in Milwaukee calling the games for the twins, talked to him and Yelly about everything. And they, they're as nice and cool as you think they are,
Starting point is 00:19:27 those two. Milwaukee nice, baby. Yeah. I think they're both from California. I think everybody on that team's from California. Everyone's from California. Cooper Pratt. Is that true? I think I like that.
Starting point is 00:19:36 Bryce Terang. Tarang is, who did I look? Oh, Petey Halpins from Cali. Petey Halpin's from California. We'll get there. Pretty good. Romero comes in, again, things that, things that will forget about baseball games,
Starting point is 00:19:51 and I'm not saying this in a rude way, but like the job Jojo Romero did. Because, I mean, Ashby's going to get his flowers. People were wondering if he was going to be MVP. I mean, that's a, that's no Tani Freeman in the books for him in the fifth. And then the Brewers take the lead, man, and it's Tanner Scott, Garrett Mitchell, and it's insanity because it's, Garrett Mitchell only had two career home runs against lefties before two days ago. And then he gets Snell and then he gets Tanner Scott, back-to-back games,
Starting point is 00:20:23 like massive pimped homers that, I think when, that happened, I don't know. I shouldn't say I thought it was over because in those next couple innings you're still doing like, you know, a bloop and a blast and you're doing baseball. But magic's a real thing in this sport and it, that felt like Milwaukee magic. They have, I believe, and I heard this on the broadcast, so I may have to check it. The Dodgers didn't score a run after the seventh inning. This entire series. So to me it did feel over. Okay.
Starting point is 00:20:58 I was wondering at that point, they take the lead. Okay. We're going to go to the bottom of the six. That means there's 12 outs to get. What was he going to do? We didn't know what combination of... I didn't think your rebate will be up tonight. That's a really special lane opened up for him.
Starting point is 00:21:15 Maybe like the last out of an inning opened up. I thought maybe he'd get in there against the right-hander. But I was like, obviously, Ashby's available. And I thought he'd go multiple today. I thought they maybe will go Romero and then just, go like an inning two-thirds of Ashby and then an inning of McGill, an inning in a third of McGill. Well, he just kept the lefties in there.
Starting point is 00:21:39 You kept the lefties in there. Crazy, dude. The fact that McGill doesn't have to pitch in, like, we're doing almost, I shouldn't say old school, but as we're crunching numbers, we're like, is McGill going to give it to Ms. earlier in the game? Like, we were wondering if he might be spikes on for a Chris Sale type final. he was never, he wasn't, and that's because they didn't even use McGill,
Starting point is 00:22:03 and they just, their recipe down there is different. In the bottom of the six, Romero comes back out, and I'm like, okay, I get that. Will Smith makes the first out, then Tucker, another great a bet, doubles in the gap. So tying runs in square in position. I'm like, okay, Merck's making a move, and he doesn't.
Starting point is 00:22:22 He's got Teo up there. Doesn't make the move. Grounds up the shortstop, and then gets nasty on Muncie to strand Tucker, and all of a sudden you're looking, he's pitched two innings right there, no runs, one hit, three K's. And now they have nine outs to get. And now you're like, okay, now I know the recipe.
Starting point is 00:22:38 And that was when I was like, it's an inning in two thirds or two innings from Ashby, one to McGill. And even I was wrong on that. I think the other things that need to be touched on. Edwin Diaz comes in and for two innings. Looks great. The Dodgers leave a runner on third in the six, seventh, and eighth. Two of those are with one out.
Starting point is 00:22:59 And they also happen to be two of the highest paid players ever. It's Tucker and Otani. Otani has a real tough one that, you know, I know, obviously with his Homer, I don't think you can reflect back on this series horribly, although it'll be interesting to see how people age with Otani's. He was clearly banged up and he showed life in these final two games. But those are two at bats, Tra. He said he wasn't banged up, though.
Starting point is 00:23:27 So that's what I'm wondering. We all thought he was banged up. He's like, I'm good. You saw him run, man. He goes, I'm just off a little bit. I don't know. If he's trying to trick himself or what? I think so.
Starting point is 00:23:38 It worked for the beginning of the game. That first and third in the, I think it was game one. It was like that's not a healthy dude. But yeah, either way, there's two opportunities that if you hit a decent fly ball or you hit a chopper, it would have tied this game up. But they just didn't. And again, I don't know if that's Milwaukee. I don't know if that's the Dodgers.
Starting point is 00:23:58 But either way, I think if we really want to dive into that stuff, we can. But I think where we finished last episode and where we kind of finished this now, the brewers are better in every aspect. I mean, looking at Phillips and Vessia come out of the pen compared to Ashby and Romero. Like every at bat the Brewers put up compared to what the Dodgers were putting up. I don't know if there was pressure on them. I don't know if they're worn out. I don't know if it, whatever it was, but they genuinely were no match for Milwaukee.
Starting point is 00:24:35 The sequence of pitches Ashby through to Shohei was great, like hanging, hanging curveball, showy takes a good swing, swings through a fastball, and it's nasty on them. I thought the last, in the last inning to Paez, that, an unfair at bat for him. You're gearing up for a hundred sinkers, and all of a sudden you just got these curveballs dropping in from the sky. And you just can't pull the trigger on them. And he threw three of them in that at bat, top of the zone.
Starting point is 00:25:02 And there was just like nothing you could do. Nothing you could do right there. And you're right. I mean, they were the better team. We didn't even talk about the top of the ninth. David Hamilton, insurance run, like they needed it. Nuts. And that was a bomb.
Starting point is 00:25:21 What, 402, 105 off the bat, man. I think we looked this out. He has four career home. runs for this year for this year excuse me 18 in his career sorry david hamilton um in 325 games so yeah right after that will smith challenge the first pitch slider to terrio and they're like really wasn't close and they so they lose that challenge they have no challenges going into the night that's that's one for me that i was like what we can't be doing that i usually don't i usually don't even comment on that from because catchers are doing such a good job with it but to me that you you have
Starting point is 00:25:56 to save one for the night. Right there. It was an interesting day for ABS and the home played umpires, more so in the second game we'll talk about. The Brewer's sweep. The first time in franchise history, they've won a seven-game playoff series. Yo.
Starting point is 00:26:15 The second team in MLB history to sweep the Dodgers in a best of seven. The last one, it was your 66 Baltimore Orioles. And then, yeah, there is a, a weird side of this that they trailed in all four games technically. The first team with six comeback wins in their first eight games of postseason. And then they scored six plus runs in each of their last three games. So, Trevor, it is a weird one that you and I don't have the answer with because they
Starting point is 00:26:44 handed up the Homer ball came out for this team that didn't Homer in the regular season that, yeah, we can brew up theories, but also David Hamilton and Garrett Mitchell left on left. That's, that voodoo's out of my hand. it looked like, and I'm being serious about this, it's going to sound like a joke. I'm being serious, though. It looked like they had control of the T level. Like they rode the wave of the T level better than the Dodgers did.
Starting point is 00:27:09 Like they were amped up, but they used it in the right way. Tell me you didn't see that from them. And that includes some of these homers. Like, yeah, they're not trying to hit homers. They're not. But like a little extra T. it goes a long way. You put the barrel on the ball, man.
Starting point is 00:27:30 That's what it looked like to me. And again, I'm being serious about that. I know you are, and I'm trying to find a better way to quantify it, because I want to tell you what, I'm a believer in that church. It's just, I think there's something to, like, the way that Pat Murphy talks and treats that team. It's almost like that, you know, remember when Kyle Schwerber got good against lefties, and they were like, what's your secret?
Starting point is 00:27:53 Shwarks and he's like, when I go up there, I prepare to die. Like, I'm prepared for lefty fastballs to hit me in the face, but I keep my shoulder in and now I'm nasty versus lefties. Like, kind of that mentality of like, we're supposed to lose, but we're not. Like, throw it up there and see what happens. And that's what it looks like when David Hamilton is up there and Garrett Mitchell's facing a lefty. Like, that is the energy that was there.
Starting point is 00:28:18 And they, I don't know, like, that's, dude, Phillips and Vescia coming in and like not really it pounding the zone. Like, that felt so different than what came out of the brewer's bullpen. I will say this. A lot of times when we're talking about, like, team culture, identity, it's all BS. Because what do I say about that? Like, every team that's good, it's easy to have a good culture.
Starting point is 00:28:43 When things are going well and you're winning, no, it's great culture. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We've been talking about Milwaukee in their culture the entire year because of the things that Pat Murphy actually does. There's actions that kind of show you what their culture is. I mean, taking Contreras out of the games, did it the free, like, who else do you do it to this year? Do you do it to a Tariot?
Starting point is 00:29:03 Somebody else as well. Cooper Pratt. Cooper Pratt early on. Sit down, young fellow, learn the game. This is how we play here. So I think there is that too where other teams wouldn't do that to their veterans. They don't. Pat Murphy's like, I have to do it to my veterans.
Starting point is 00:29:20 Like, I think he gets that. and you know yellow chas some quotes talking about murphy and like it wouldn't work everywhere i don't i don't buy that actually i've been around a ton of elite elite athletes hall of famers played with them they still like to be coached man if you do it the right way like every athlete has been coached and usually the guys that are the best are coachable very few get to the highest level is just like on their own like you got to be coached um so i think if you do it the right way people welcome that they welcome the structure of it they welcome the discipline of it because think about that i mean like the guys that are at that level um you have to have discipline so you respect it
Starting point is 00:30:05 i i truly think there is an actual culture here not just one that we make up and it's like oh they're doing that you see that cool celebration they're doing with the fucking homer helmet no dude that's not what breeds culture. Pat Murphy in the way he handles adversity, the way he talks to guys, and the tough love he gives him, that creates culture. Yes, and I also think it's... And winning 105 games.
Starting point is 00:30:31 Yes, it's not necessarily winning Cures Everything, which I do bring up on this show a decent amount. But it's also, they believe in stuff that not every team does believe in. But if you believe in it
Starting point is 00:30:46 and then it works, that's when everyone believes. That's when everyone looks at. What would you say a team, like, they believe and then another team believes in? I mean, look around the field that, like, how many teams out there, truly every player to play has to be able to play defense at a high level. And, like, how many teams out there,
Starting point is 00:31:13 every player on the field has to bust it to first? like how many people actually do that. Agreed. I think defensively, there are some teams that go in, they look like that. Like the race, I feel like a team that's always valued defense
Starting point is 00:31:29 probably more than offense or is really, at least put an emphasis on defense. Yeah, you're right. If you look at their team, there's in the infield, typically there's three short stops playing second, third, and short. Then you got a guy at first base, whatever. Bauer's made a nice pick tonight.
Starting point is 00:31:45 Then you have Contreras out there, who is a guy that handles the pitching staff and does a very good job at his position. And then you have three center fielders. Like they have elite defenders pretty much everywhere they go. And that is something. That's an organizational buy-in. That's also like, you know, that's, to me, that's just the front office putting together a roster of those guys.
Starting point is 00:32:07 Yes, but I do think even, I think other teams have caveats. I get no offense to junior Camerro who might finish second in the MVP. and hit 40 plus homers again, I don't think the Brewers would have him as their starting third baseman. Now, Brewer's front office could, like, laugh at me and be like, if we had Caminero, well, we'll play him. But, like, Caminero could probably have a first baseman's mitt if he was on the Brewers. Because, dude, they believe in it.
Starting point is 00:32:34 And it turns out, if everyone can play defense, well, the other thing we're bearing it here is that their pitching staff is filth. Like, that's the other key. I had a thought in today's game. And a lot of years in this sport. How many? What is you at, coach? I'm not sure.
Starting point is 00:32:55 Well, it depends what you count, I guess. But don't worry about that. I was thinking to myself, you can't teach someone to be an elite defender. You just can't. You could teach them to be a better defender. There are things you can do. And maybe if you're like a very good defender,
Starting point is 00:33:15 you can become great. But I'm talking like, you take an average, guy, average big leaguer, you're not going to be able to teach him to be an elite defender, because they're just things that you have to have God-given ability to be an elite defender. You have to have insane speed, usually, especially if you're an outfielder. You have to have incredible eyes, anticipation. I feel like a lot of things like maybe you can teach some of that. Maybe you can teach some of it.
Starting point is 00:33:37 But again, the leap that you can make from where you were at defensively, I think is small. You can get to the next tier, but jumping to three tiers is, I think, really tough. But I do think you can teach guys with those skill sets to become good hitters. I think you can do that. Because if you're going to have an athlete like that, an athlete like that probably has good hand-eye coordination, probably has good vision, and a wiry athletic body, whatever his body. He can move it. He can manipulate it how he wants to.
Starting point is 00:34:07 That's kind of what hitting is. And look, I'm not trying to say that you can just be some Joe Schmo that's never hit before and only play defense than become a good hitter. I'm saying, like, if you're a league average hitter, I think he's a lot. I think you could actually become a great hitter if you make some adjustments. I don't think it works the other way. So I guess my thought process on all of this was if you can find some guys that can play elite defense that are like okay hitters, I think you can coach those guys up to become superstars.
Starting point is 00:34:36 And I don't think it works the other way. I think at least you could coach them up to be productive offensive players. And I think that's what you see in even like David Hamilton's and Joe Ortiz. South Freelick. A couple more reads. I have some more thoughts on that because we're, let's just empty the chamber tonight, people. And it's brought to you by booking.com.
Starting point is 00:34:57 Booking.com, yeah, an official travel partner of MLB. Booking.com makes it easy for every baseball fan to travel and catch a game wherever the team schedule takes them. A playoff game, a weekend series, even a random Tuesday in a city you never been to. It all counts. And the thing about baseball comes with a whole city, the neighborhood that turns into a tail cape before first pitch.
Starting point is 00:35:14 The food spots locals actually go to the street, that buzz a little differently on game day. Every stadium has its own version of that, and booking.com makes it easy to find a great hotel or vacation home right in the middle of it, wherever that happens to be. And once it's in your head, go on. Book that trip, it's easy. The easiest way from where you are to where you want to be,
Starting point is 00:35:33 booking.com, booking.com, booking. Yeah, an official travel partner of MLB, Major League Baseball trademarks, used with permission. Yeah, I, again, I know the Yankees too well, and I'm sorry if I use it as too much of a data point sometimes, but it's because that's, kind of where my knowledge is. We've laughed at the past Yankees' deadlines and off-season.
Starting point is 00:35:53 The prospects they trade away are guys under six feet. Like the Yankees love big grizzly beasts. Brian Cashman has an old quote about that. The Brewers, as they were kind of trying to find their way, they were like, okay, so you're 5-7, you're one of the best defensive outfielder we've ever seen and we could coach you up. All right, Luis Lara, let's figure this out.
Starting point is 00:36:15 You know, Joey Ortiz is a throwing in the trade with the Orioles. Well, can you play shortstop at a high level? Okay, can you play third base at a high level? Like, if you look around the field, it's not an island of misfit toys. I mean, some of these dudes are ballers. But other teams didn't value some of the undersized guys because we get caught up looking at the Jordans and Judge and Otani and some of the freak shows of this game and exit Velo and all of it,
Starting point is 00:36:45 that it's like, well, I don't know, if you get a two-strike curveball, can you slap it the other way? Because if we can do that, you can play every game for us. We can just keep that. To me, that's the beauty of analytics. That's the beauty of this information that we have. And I kind of referenced it talking about it. I don't know it was yesterday or something. Like, you can have all the information, but can you process it?
Starting point is 00:37:11 Can you make it work on the field? Can you find the margin? and the victories within them. Can you tell what you want to differentiate your organization from? And that's what these teams have done. The last three remaining teams we have in the playoffs, that's what they've done. They went out and found talent where other people
Starting point is 00:37:29 who aren't looking for talent because all the dummies that have the information, we're just like, I want homers. I want slug. And we'll find that. And we'll find a place from all in the field. We're going to find a place to put them on the infield or the outfield. It's like, no, damn, that looks bad.
Starting point is 00:37:45 lot. These teams use the information available to them and drafted and scouted and traded accordingly and it's worked out. Crazy. I think we're going to have more brewers to talk about. I think we kind of need to dig the hole in the back. Okay. I'll start digging the hole in the backyard for the Dodgers. Oh, we're going to put in the bed. Okay, one more thing that brewers. Yeah, yeah. Garrett Mitchell suffers from type 1 diabetes, I believe it. And who did he reach out to before he got into Pro Ball to talk to about that? Ryan Braun. Sanfold.
Starting point is 00:38:26 They mentioned on the broadcast. Ken Rosenthal had a story about my guy, Sanfold. I reached out to Sam and said, I hope you know how often I sing your praises. Did he respond? Be honest. Of course he did. That's all you ask. I'm keeping that relationship.
Starting point is 00:38:39 But when he's running the whole damn thing, me and my guy, Sammy's, I just found out. I hope he gives me a gig. I don't know. I don't think this has to be a full-on burial of the Dodgers. I think baseball is a funny sport sometimes. Like, they deserve to be swept. Probably not really. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:38:58 Could they have gotten one or two? You know, some of the Roberts' decisions seemed like he was playing for a seven-game set sometimes, which when it ends up being not, that feels a little different. I don't know, man. It felt a little old. I don't know. maybe that's lazy commentary like I'll put my hand up but I don't know Frederick felt felt a step off obviously
Starting point is 00:39:24 Shohei was banged up Tay Oscar has a didn't feel as scary as he can feel Will Smith, Muncie I again they got swept there's not too many guys I can highlight in the best way right now they were in every game I do see what you're saying about Dave Roberts really can not really acting with a sense of urgency necessarily like he didn't he make it a point to say that scoobo and yamamoto were not pitching tonight sure did and they're not pitch tomorrow either yeah yeah why like why like why i mean dude i feel like we haven't seen this in
Starting point is 00:40:00 the put tell me if i'm losing my mind because i think i am i don't know if you've seen the live stream i'm hanging out with the kids at the company and i'm losing it um but like should there not have been an argument for like edwin diaz to come in the fifth inning and like didn't we used to see that in post seasons? It's like we need to stop scoring now. Here's our bad man. And like that never happened. It, I agree. Like it didn't, like, why wasn't
Starting point is 00:40:28 Scoobble in there, like available tonight? Like, he can't pitch tomorrow or there's not even a, was there another? No, yeah, there was another game tomorrow. It could have been. In LA. Okay, yeah. He's no longer a Dodger. He's not a Dodger anymore. Yeah, first of all, exactly.
Starting point is 00:40:44 He's not, it's not your problem. Like, that sounds terrible. to say. Crazy. But, you know, he's on a Dodger after this. So maybe you kind of get as much as you can out of it. I think a lot of people would think that. So maybe like you, if you're a player,
Starting point is 00:40:58 you're like, oh, that's nice. In the moment, it's like, hey, like you want to get this next game, you want to get to the next game. We'll figure it out when we get there, but we got to get there, Pop. That's kind of the mentality you're talking about. Yeah, we don't really.
Starting point is 00:41:10 Hey, we did, he does have a lot of money coming and we did defend him in the WBC when it was like, you know, it, that there is something interesting there. But he didn't, there's no way he was like, I ain't pitching.
Starting point is 00:41:22 I think you're right. So, I mean, shit, maybe, I don't know. Yeah. And the Dodgers can look at back
Starting point is 00:41:29 at the postseason, five for 43 with runners in scoring position coach. That, yeah, if that turns into nine for 43, did they win one game? If that turns into 11 for 43,
Starting point is 00:41:40 is that too? And their mighty rotation, man. Like, we thought we'd look back on and be like, wait, Scoobel, Yamamoto, Snell and Glass now, like four of the most talented pitchers in very different ways of our generation. 18 inning pitch, 13 earn runs a 6-5 ERA against the Brewers.
Starting point is 00:42:02 Yeah, what was the best line? I'm trying to think, was it Scoobel's line? Yeah, scubel, five innings, two earned, seven punches. The best line we got out of those starting pitchers. Yeah, I mean, that was supposed to be the calling card. And we walked away from that game being like, the Brewers got scoble. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:18 Pesky. Pesky A-Bs, grinder type stuff, hit homers and they needed to. They did everything, man. I don't know. Dodgers, they'll be in a good spot next year. They got players. Did they look old? I don't know, man. They put a lot of baseball. Over the last three years, these dudes have played a lot of baseball.
Starting point is 00:42:35 And you talk to guys that go deep into the World Series and have these runs. Like, that off-season short, man. You don't get the rest. And they've had to do that a couple of, couple of different times. Now they took it to the max last year in game seven. So I'm not using that as an excuse. They were ready to play. They got beat. But yeah, they're going to be a threat to win the NOS next year. I'm not going to give them the NOS. But they'll be,
Starting point is 00:43:03 in the playoffs. We've got time to talk about that. Dodgers are out. You know who's not out? The Tampa Bay Rays and the Cleveland Guard Dogs. Game three in the rock and roll capital of the world. How's your big rig? Not us, buddy. Gavin Williams towing the rubber against Griffin Jack's Manichin trying to keep the rays from feeling dark blue, dark blue. Nathaniel Lowe.
Starting point is 00:43:40 Early settler name and settles in with an RBI double. It's one-nothing guards. Top four, like watching TV in the 90s. Chandler Simpson. Two-run triple. It's two-one raise. Bottom five. The birthplace of Superman.
Starting point is 00:43:57 Is it a bird? Is it a place? It's Petey. Petey helping two-run Homer. It's three-two Cleveland after five. It's stay that way. Five-p-innings to run nine-Ks from Williams. Espion.
Starting point is 00:44:11 Oh, my God. Sobrowski, Gattis. And maybe actually Superman, Cade Smith? Believelin. They win three, two, and take a two one seriously. What do you do now, Chris Rose? What are you going to do now? I hate that I had like a similar thought today.
Starting point is 00:44:34 At like 4.30 p.m. I was like, I'm glad I talk shit to Chris Rose at the warehouse, telling him that his team is actually good, because they might be going to the World Series. It's one of the things that, like, I love Chris Rose, but it irks me. It's, what are they? It gives me the yick. Nice.
Starting point is 00:44:54 That's another. We're trying, people. Welcome to Giggly Squad. Don't make fun of it, I actually. I'm not. I'm not.
Starting point is 00:45:01 I don't think they say that. But like, I'm like, Chris, you root for a team that's like consistently good. He's like, yeah, but, you know, we just get to the playoffs. It doesn't mean anything. I'm like, weren't you just like in the ALCS? Right.
Starting point is 00:45:18 Some of us. Don't experience that with our team. So I'm constantly fighting this battle with Chris Rose. And yes, no offense to Ray's fans, I'd be happy if they were in the world's season. I think the best matchup is Ray's Milwaukee. I think that's fantastic baseball. But I think I'm rooting for Cleveland to get there
Starting point is 00:45:41 and to win the whole damn thing, just so he shuts his mouth. And two, that would be two franchises that haven't had a bite at the apple in a long time. That's a phrase I don't fucking use. Okay. Where do you want to start? It's a 1 PM game, which, again, felt kind of crazy,
Starting point is 00:46:05 but they moved it up due to the storm. I think the story was, is Gavin Williams going to look like Gavin Williams did in that, in his last outing, that Game 5 clincher against the White Sox, where he looked like the baddest man on the planet? He kind of does. First pitch pop out and then he strikes out the next two guys that it's like, all right, buckle up for an afternoon game and some shadows.
Starting point is 00:46:27 But also your guy Griffin Jacks. He can twirl the pill. Pitcher's duel to begin. I have this on my notes and I needed this fact check because it doesn't look right. Perfect. Retires the first nine raise, five case on 35 pitches? Adalt will double check that. I will tell you his pitch count is an interesting part of this conversation.
Starting point is 00:46:49 because he comes out after 70 pitches today. So it might be right. But yeah, he comes out looking amazing, you know, kind of what we expect from him. Fastball top of the zone, that nasty breaking ball as well. Like it just, it's a lot of times, him and what Asprey was doing with their breaking balls,
Starting point is 00:47:07 it's just hard to pull the trigger. You're, you have to sit on a hundred. Josh Dawson was talking about facing guys like that. He's like, you know, if you just put your bill down, you learn it from Adrian Bell. Tray, you can eliminate, like, you're, you tracking that high fastball because you can't see it. So, like, you eliminate it. It's a good trick.
Starting point is 00:47:26 Okay. But what happens when you throw that curve ball above the rim and you take it? Like, that's, that's where these guys do. That's why they're so good. If they can pull that pitch off. And we knew the ABS was going to help these guys. And I think it has a ton, those top, top of those own curve balls. But he looked, he looked great until the fourth.
Starting point is 00:47:49 The fourth, Yondi takes the first pitch fastball, rips a curveball down the left field line, lead-up double. So perfect game is over. He strikes out the next two guys in Aranda and Camerro. And then I think I'm going to start calling him that fuck Mesa Jr. I feel like he's involved in everything. And I mean that in a loving way if you watch the show. Randall Gritchick passing the baton to Victor Mesa Jr. I feel like he's just involved in everything and he's kind like that one.
Starting point is 00:48:19 fly ball in right field and in the trough he like actually like he didn't know where it was kind of and caught it like I think he's a little bit of you know he is fun he has fun he walks and then it's Chandler Simpson man
Starting point is 00:48:35 it's Chandler Simpson he swings over the sweeper down on him not too dissimilar from what Show Hey does later in the night then Williams hangs in one a one two sweeper pulls it down the right field line and it's a two run triple man it's a two run on triple and all of a sudden you're like, okay, Gavin Williams looked unhittable, and now they're down
Starting point is 00:48:53 to nothing. Yeah. He, uh, where every, I don't know, postseason we get to zoom in on every pitch, um, you know, I think if Chandler Simpson isn't one of the fastest men in the world, like I, I just looked at that replay. I was wondering if Nathaniel Lowe would have been able to snag it. I don't think he would have if he was playing back more because that ball's rope. And Chandler Simpson has never hit two balls above 100 miles per hour in a game. But that, that, happened today, along with all the, you know, Garrett Mitchell stuff from before. And yeah, they go up two to one. And like you said, I'm still kind of leaning rays in the series.
Starting point is 00:49:30 And it was like, okay, are they going to, a pivotal game three. Obviously, one of these teams is going to go up to one. And then, Trev, I don't know. Maybe it's serendipity. Maybe we just talk so much that we're allowed to fall into stuff. but I don't know. Pedy Halpin's a name. We've said a lot.
Starting point is 00:49:51 And here's this MFER. Two-two count. Griffin Jacks, who've been through four, and he only gave up the one run on the Nate, Nathaniel Lo double. And he just turns on one. And then he bat flips it over the building. Yeah, he does.
Starting point is 00:50:09 See, this is the flip. It's pretty big. I don't love that. I love the bat drop more. But he's excited about it. I'm happy for him. So in that at bat, it works a two-two count. He gets down and he lays off a change up.
Starting point is 00:50:21 He fouls off a sweeper. And then you start to think to yourself in those situations, like the more off-speed pitches that I see in a row, like the better the chances are for a heater. That makes sense, right? And your mind is a hitter. You're like, okay, I'm getting back to a count where I can get a heater.
Starting point is 00:50:40 And again, like you foul one off, you take a good off-speed pitch. Like, all right, I'm getting back. I'm going to get my heater. He gets the. heater. And this one's kind of center cut sinker, 95.9, right over the middle of the plate and just doesn't miss it. I thought that was a really good job working himself back in the count, giving the pitch that he wanted. And yeah, I mean, he's got four big league homers before today.
Starting point is 00:51:03 It's one in the one of the biggest spots you can ever think of. And Patrick Bailey there, infield single before that. And that's, I don't know if it was a makeable play. It ended up in no man's land. But it's what we're talking about with some of these tweener plays. Like, what if someone does make a special play there? And then you kind of erase it from your memory. And you're just like, oh, catch your run. And they made a play. But that makes it a two-run homer.
Starting point is 00:51:26 And then what's becoming the story of this Cleveland team, and I hate to give you some AL Central nightmares, but Espino comes out. And he looks like, talk about peeking at the right time. The ball is just jumping out of his hands after missing a lot of baseball due to injuries, former first-round pick. And then the guys that had kind of got them there through the year,
Starting point is 00:51:50 Sabrowski, Gaddis, and dude, Cade Smith, I mean, literally looks like chiseled out of rock humming in, having no fear of any hitter in the world. He made me feel like a child at the All-Star game. I was talking to him, standing out in the field, and I'm just like, this guy, like, he's massive. Like, he does look like a superhero. Yeah, so Espino does this thing in this game.
Starting point is 00:52:15 Wells does his thing. Sabrowski does his thing. Steven, Mattz, how about that? How about that? Good outing for him. That was also interesting
Starting point is 00:52:23 from the, from the race, and kind of like their pitching decisions there. But they hold the score. And then Gattis comes in. And I was wondering, I'm like, okay,
Starting point is 00:52:36 Kate Smith is a guy that can go more than one inning. I'm like, okay, you bring Gattis in there in that clean inning, he's got to face three-back. Got a phase three batters. So he gets to Luca and then Palacios hits the one out double and you know you're like,
Starting point is 00:52:53 you probably think to yourself if you're Stephen vote, should I have him just walk the guy so I can bring in Cade Smith, right? Kind of. Well, he gets Walls to ground out. Palacios smoothed to third. Then Cade Smith goes in. Yanni Diaz great a bat, 10 pitch of bat. You're like, all right, this is, we've seen these before in these playoffs in 2026.
Starting point is 00:53:14 Like, are we going to see this long a bat turn into? something special for the race and he ends up striking him out. So Cade Smith comes in, does the job, as we all knew he would because he's that guy. But that was the thought process I had right there. It was like, do you just walk this guy? Or like, there is a world where you can put this in our binder too where we're like, you bring in a guy, you start to bring in a lot of guys to end an inning. So like you can send them back out the next inning and like pull them whenever you want.
Starting point is 00:53:41 That's a Yankee party trick that they used to do that more in the first. regular season. I think it's a good postseason trick. Yeah, I think it's better in the postseason. Yeah, and the regular season, I don't know, sometimes you get the adrenaline dumps or you up down, but I do like it in October. I'm glad you mentioned the Ray's pitching a little bit because it doesn't end up biting them like Matt's perfect. Tyler Wells looks good too. And they said they talked to Kevin Cash, who we talk about one of the most experienced manager, the most experienced manager in the game, or long as tenured. that they talked about his decision to bring Tyler Wells in a game one,
Starting point is 00:54:19 which we were kind of like, what the hell is that? And he basically said, like, if we're going to get through this postseason, Tyler Wells needs to be a guy for us, which has two good innings today. And you say, all right, again, it's a little screwy of a mindset because you're playing for a seven-game set kind of. Nothing's promised. But I don't know. I guess for me, it was the first time as we were getting further into managers that
Starting point is 00:54:44 If this game does go, this series goes six or seven, I will be interested to see. It does feel like Cash is being careful about overexposing his relievers, because we don't see Baker in this one, we don't see Kelly, that I'm interested for our manager in front office binder if these are kind of smart decisions that it's going to get to game seven and the raise relievers come out and look like horses. Or are we going to be asking questions by game six, the Guardians win?
Starting point is 00:55:13 and it's like should you have shot your shot a little earlier? Yeah, I mean, you're down, you're down two to one, or what are you down? You're down three to two, excuse me. Oh, in the series they're now down two to one. Yeah, you're down three to two, and in the series it is one to one. So there are games to make, you know, you have guaranteed games still in your bag. So I think the thought process does obviously change in a situation like this, and then will definitely be different when you're facing elimination.
Starting point is 00:55:43 But I like it. I mean, you have to keep these guys as sharp as possible with the understanding that, yeah, we're still going to use mainly our top guys.
Starting point is 00:55:54 But in a situation like this, it worked. They threw four scoreless. You loved it. I'll tell you this. So I, I viewed this game at my, at Robbie's place.
Starting point is 00:56:05 Pellas for a great place in Calabasas, went and sat. Him and I were sitting at the bar. We had lunch together. I'm watching the game. And we were just like, casually talking about like the weekend or whatever.
Starting point is 00:56:14 Cade Smith is in for the night. And I'm watching the game. And I'm like turning like this. And like before I knew it, it was two outs. Like it happened so fast. Yeah. Yeah. He's just eight pitches to go against Oranda, Camerrano, and that fuck Mesa Jr.?
Starting point is 00:56:33 Yeah. All right. Yeah. Yeah. No fear. No fear and no like it doesn't feel wild. at all, which sometimes relievers just feel they have that. In control. Yes.
Starting point is 00:56:50 I guess you could say he was Hymns. And speaking of Hymns, people, that's right. Hymns has been with us for a little while now. Yeah, as we're bragging about, as we're bragging about, you know, the brewers and the guardians, and they get these, you know, grindy guys and, you know, defense is a skill and go get that and teach them the rest of the game.
Starting point is 00:58:07 For pitchers, maybe still this get the big freaks. because Cade Smith, Gavin Williams with those, dude, Gavin Williams is striking out 46% of the guys this postseason and he's kind of been doing that, you know, basically since July. He's having one of those special runs
Starting point is 00:58:29 when it all comes together at the right moment. He was talking to Pedro Martinez and just dwarfing him after the game. Pedro's like, it's hard to give advice to someone. if you have to go like this. Like those guys are playing a different sport. I realize they aren't, but they were.
Starting point is 00:58:49 16 of the last 17 raise, retired by that bullpen, one base runner over the final four innings. That's what that comes out to. Similar to what I was saying about like going and finding defenders and kind of making them into hitters, I feel like put this one in our binder. Like you said, get the freaks on the mound. The big dogs.
Starting point is 00:59:10 We can teach Velo. now. I feel like you can get guys' bodies moving. They're going to be strong. They're already going to have good arms, but we can, we can, coach them up there. It's those weird arm angles that you're just not accustomed to seeing. In our organization, if you're 511 to 6-2, you're out, Paya. See ya. You're not on our team. Trade deadline. 5-10 to 6-2 out. Maybe 6-3 out. I want a tall freak or a short king. Noah did throw me off. I went to look at Ashby's height.
Starting point is 00:59:41 as he's been, you know, a story of this postseason. Six foot. Six foot. Pictures can be freaks. These are different. All the arm angles, the release point. I think Gavin Williams, he changed something with his, like, glove and his stance, and that's what broke him open.
Starting point is 00:59:58 And you're like, okay, dude. He also, they were laughing. He has one of the, like, furthest release points, but he, like, doesn't try. He's, like, unfortunately there, so he's got to figure that out. Yeah, the freak still work there. Espino, man. Like, as you're starting to dream of October things,
Starting point is 01:00:18 you need guys like that to happen at the right moment that he's... I mean, kind of like eye-popping innings. That's what we're doing right now. You and I both looking at each other, like, what the fuck? Yeah. I guess we have to... I mean, do you want to do any PD helping? Yeah, did we even not even talk about anything about it?
Starting point is 01:00:38 We kind of did. You talked about his at bad and how he got the heater. and he gets, you know, gets his hands in on it. Well, I mean, this is what I know about this Cleveland Guardians team is that, yeah, they have Jose Ramirez, and they need him to be Jose Ramirez to be successful. We're starting to see that in this postseason. But what they've lived off of any successes they've had,
Starting point is 01:01:01 you talk about the pitching, but it's always also been about, like, getting the big hit, some of the timely hitting. They haven't been good with two outs with runners in scoring position this year, but they seem to, especially now to be able to get the big hit. Brian Rokio's been the guy. He's not doing it this postseason. But we're seeing early Settler, Nathaniel Lowe,
Starting point is 01:01:22 come up with massive hits. We're seeing Joe Adele come up with some massive hits. And then P.D. Halpin says, I want to be that guy. And he does it. Not a guy known for his home run pop, as we mentioned. But he's riding that T-level the right way. Dude, it was funny watching all the guardians talk about Petey Halpin,
Starting point is 01:01:44 and they basically threw gritted teeth We're talking about his T levels are through the roof. Well, so Stephen Vaux had a quote about him saying he's a leader on the team. And he's young, so it's a weird thing to put on somebody, but he goes, guys follow this guy. Like he, so that, you know, hey, it's energetic pull, man, some, some, you know, magnetic shit. It's like when people get around me and you, they don't know what to do. Right.
Starting point is 01:02:13 That's the force field. That's the T levels. No, it's, we all know people in our lives that they have a natural gravitational pull. Shout out. Our guy, Joe's McFly has a little bit of that sauce in them. And everyone knows people in their life that, yeah, it's just whatever it is. And he's from San Mateo, California, bra. Every person's from California.
Starting point is 01:02:34 Everyone's from California. And, dude, Nathaniel, Lowe, I don't even know what to do. It's so funny that how baseball contracts and arbitration and free agency works that, like, Nathaniel Lowe's just a good baseball player that baseball's kind of been like, well, I don't know, you're approaching 30. You had one bad year. Like, he's a career 115 OPS plus. Like, this guy's a very solid Major League baseball player.
Starting point is 01:03:02 And this is where I got, dude, I did a late night deep dive. I've been having trouble getting to bed. I think it's because of the caffeine and staying up and talking all night. But yeah, I did this. Like, as far as Cleveland teams go, it's like, okay, can Stephen Kwan be really good? Yes, I mean, go look at his second half. Can J-Ram? Yep.
Starting point is 01:03:25 DeLotter's rookie, like a crazy season for a young blood. Joe Adele, first lefties, absolutely. Nathaniel Lowe, a pro. Bizzana, the one pick. He could go off at any month. Like, that's more sauce than we see for. from a normal Cleveland team. And all that being said,
Starting point is 01:03:41 I still don't hate Tampa. They got to be tricky. They got to make sure they get out of Cleveland. Well, we set it all year with the Guardians. I think it's the best pitching staff they had during the regular season, like one through five that they've had in a long time. Bullpins have always, they've always been able to find that.
Starting point is 01:03:57 But I agree with you as far as hitting goes with the additions they've made, second half and kind of what we've seen in the postseason. That's the longer lineup has been something. that I think is different about this Guardians team. Rocio, Rocio, where for out my Rochio. They will play tomorrow. Do we have a time for this game? Is it six?
Starting point is 01:04:19 Is it eight? Six Easter. I think it's three Pacific. Okay. Adults said they change it to eight. We'll see. He's looking at the website right now. That would make sense.
Starting point is 01:04:28 Okay. That makes sense. Before we sign off, Trev, some playoff predictions brought to you by Seek. For the raise, who do you, who do you? want to see step up a guy who name we haven't said camanero's getting a lot of fastballs at his eyes that he's just swinging through um your guy mason jr's kind of having a rough stretch the raise bullpen i guess what are what are you looking for from them to turn it around i think it starts with camminero he's got to get hot he's got to put the ball in the seats he's got to do what he did during the regular season that's
Starting point is 01:04:57 that's that's number one number two number three things that are important to the raise is getting him hot i think you're right obviously that seems easy but uh Again, something I like to clarify with power hitters these days. Like Caminero hit 276 this year. So like he, and he's just chasing balls at his eyes, and that's clearly in Cleveland scouting department. Like a big junior Caminero walk would go a long way. I know he wants to do more than that, but yeah, and we'll see.
Starting point is 01:05:28 Nick Martinez tomorrow for the race, 13 innings pitch, zero earn runs against the Guardians this regular season. And yeah, I don't know. I'm good for the guards. Again, I pick the raise in six, and I think I'd probably take that back right now if I could. But I think this series is going to have more to it. I think it's entering the fun part of a baseball series
Starting point is 01:05:51 where we're starting to see a lot of guys, guys. But also, that crowd today had some juice. This Cleveland team has a lot of the similar properties. Milwaukee does, so does Tampa. To clarify, Camano has gotten his hits. He needs to hit homers. That's kind of... Send one.
Starting point is 01:06:11 Yeah. Zero career postseason homers. So, uh, changing... He's had, uh, coming into tonight, he was five for 19 with two double. So like, he's actually, you know, hitting well this year, uh, as far as average goes, but he hasn't hit, he had hit homers. We got to get you on there. Coop guys on.
Starting point is 01:06:30 You got to hit that three run homer. Hit that long ball. Hit that long ball. Tanner Bybee, Nick Martinez, Sikh use code talk in 2026 if you're in Belieflin, 10% off your next set of tickets at Sea Geek. I believe we have a live stream going tomorrow night. There's a rumor it could be Justin Pennick alone
Starting point is 01:06:49 because there was a bet on the David Hamilton Homer if he hits one. I don't know if we're going to follow up with that. I hope not. I should say it. Potentially. We should, there will be stream tomorrow. I think there's going to be three people.
Starting point is 01:07:02 We'll see. Talking baseball, we might be on a funky schedule the next couple days. We want to see how the series plays out. We'd also, we have interest in sleep and seeing family and friends that we'll see. We want to see what goes on with the rest of this series. And then it'll be because the World Series doesn't start until next Friday. So we're going to figure out, you know, we might know the world. We could know the World Series matchup by Saturday night if Cleveland keeps rolling.
Starting point is 01:07:27 It'll either be Sunday morning or Monday morning. That's, I think we've kind of come to that conclusion, right? Okay. Next time we're on. Maybe Sunday night. Who knows? Go Rams. Go Rams.
Starting point is 01:07:40 I think that's it. Thanks, everyone. The Ellie text you back. Be honest. No chance. Jess Clothin texting me. Jake sucks. Here's a thing, though.
Starting point is 01:07:55 There, yeah. Oh, my God. He's maugging me. He's maugging me. And why is Chris Rose mauging me? Chris Rose. of magging you there i'm i'm on the down it was part of you're on the slope yeah i didn't text yelly i'm gonna come out with you guys i'm so happy for you okay nice trev but where you at
