Hello and welcome to Talking Baseball, Game 1 of the World Series in the book,
The Milwaukee Brewers.
Milwaukee Brewers, they take game one.
Let's talk about it.
Let's talk about it.
I'm Paige DeSorbo.
I'm Hannah.
Aaron Ashby.
Corey Hart.
Homer.
Yeah.
Was he in the building?
Probably.
Had to be.
Hello and welcome to Talkin Baseball, presented by Fanatic Sports and Casino.
If you're locking in your baseball bets, Fanatic Sports and Casino is the place.
do it winning hits different here i am jake storielli that is trevor ploof we are in rob sheraco's hotel room
as he produces dalton feely's here too putting it all together as we're on we're on the couch uh in a hotel
room in milwaukee as the brewers brewers have won their first world series game in 44 years
coach trev i've never felt more weird sitting on it on a couch with like my friend
You made me feel weird about it.
We're not going to go into why, but like you really have.
You know what, Trevor, I'm going to do this because we have all our people with us.
And hey, you know, for big events, sometimes we get new people.
As we were setting up the shots for this, originally I was sitting closer to Trevor.
And that looked weird.
So I'll be over here, a little Marco Scootero for me.
And it's been an awesome day.
Milwaukee is just straight buzzing.
Obviously, I try to do my best with this because as people that listen to this know,
I'm a major sports fan that I'm in everything.
Something that is very cool about this is everyone's gotten lost in small markets and ratings and the CBA and all of that.
And then it's like, well, no, it's actually going to be good baseball, dude.
And like, I'll tell you what, the way the city of Milwaukee was buzzing today,
a city that doesn't have a world series just from the airport to the town,
to the Bucks had their first game today,
but they're horrible this year,
so no one cared.
That it was just like an awesome Milwaukee Brewers Day,
and part of me is pretty happy for the city that they won today.
And, you know, I got so sucked in today that I told you guys
in a not-joking way, not just being dumb Jake.
I was like, whoever wins game one wins this.
Because I thought either Milwaukee is going to ride the storm
or Tampa was going to pop the whole balloon of this city.
I was walking.
I'm going to kick to you in a second trip.
I'm too excited.
I was watching the local news today.
And it was just, it felt like a small town celebrating something.
And it was.
And so, yeah, we'll do all that.
We'll get into the game.
Coach, how are you?
I mean, I feel like I have to give the city of Milwaukee some credit as well.
I mean, it's a great sports town.
It truly is.
Great sports town.
I saw Yannis on the heat randomly.
Teddy's got a fantasy basketball team all of a sudden.
So now we're watching basketball.
Okay, whatever.
Great start to our day.
Curtains open.
We went to dinner tonight.
Shout out Omar at Carnivore downtown.
We got a seat at the bar, watched the game, had some stakes.
Dalton had his first taste of cheesecake.
I'm not ready to talk about that.
Okay, later.
Because his dinner is even more shocking.
Eventually we'll get to his dinner.
You need to stick around to find out what he ate at a nice steakhouse.
But I think we need to get to the game.
Let's break it down.
A lot of stuff happened.
Spoiler alert, we missed the last out.
Yeah.
We'll get to that as well, Jake.
You may have two if you're tuning into this because that was the city started celebrating.
So yeah, a little final piece of info for people before we're getting.
into it. We're going to game two tomorrow.
So today was kind of our travel day,
but we weren't going to the game.
So we watched at a local establishment.
We had a great time. Shout out
to the people at Carnivore. We got hooked
up there. It was awesome.
And yeah, the city was just,
you know, at first they weren't going to put on the game audio
and we're like, no. Like, do you not realize
what's happening here? We didn't tell them anything.
The people around
the bar. The city took over. We were celebrating
the plays that were happening. And then I think they realized,
oh, we need to put this.
Hey, I'll do shots fire
as we do some small market,
big market stuff sometimes.
Even when the Yankees had the World Series,
it's not big enough to take over the city.
The Brewers took over the city today.
100%.
And that was sick.
So let's get into the game.
And it starts with our
World Series Warriors
brought to you by Best Western.
They're the best in the game.
So let's do it.
Let's burn it.
Welcome to Milwaukee Algonquin for the Goodland.
Brewers fans trying to end 44 years of Miz Zerowski with Jacob taking the bump first
the American League champions, the Tampa Bay raise.
Nick Martinez trying to cement himself in one year contract history.
Bottom one, oh, captain my captain.
Yelly for three, triple and a ribby.
And how about some will yum?
Contreras makes it 2-0 crew top four get to the choppa Hicks RBI ground out it's two to one
Miz and Martinez both did their job five and fly these days my old college nickname
bottom seven I'm sorry miss Jackson trio is no outcast with the RBI single it's 3-1 crew
in the ninth too much cheese hold on to your butts Hicks another RBI ground out
but the crew holds on.
It's Mizz to Uribe to Ashby to McGill.
Crew.
They take game one, three, two, final.

Coach Trev, the question is always, where do we start?
That's my line.
And I know exactly where we start.
I have the standings.
You want the standing of the World Series?
I would love the standings.
One nothing Brewers.
Yes.
And we didn't even know that.
A thousand percent.
Look, I think this is, as we've prefaced this series, I mean, this is two teams doing things largely similarly,
but also having some differences in the way they approach the game.
It's fun.
It's a lot of defense, and maybe that's a talking point today as there were some chances
early on for Tampa that they did not capitalize on and the Brewers did have some defensive plays
although I wouldn't call them like great dazzling defensive plays but the Miz did get hit hard early
and they just ended up being right at people they made the plays some base running all that
happened today and I guess that is where we start we expect Miz at this point we saw him
throughout this season I mean he's going to win the Cy Young he had one of the better seasons we've
seen in, I don't know, the last two decades for a starting pitcher.
Now, you can talk about innings all you want.
It's not that game anymore, people.
It's not that game anymore.
You're not that guy, pal.
Okay, Ms. is that guy.
This postseason, the length is not there.
But I think it's by design.
And if you're Pat Murphy and you're a Brewers fan, you're like, we went
Ms. to Yerebe, to Ashby, to McGill, we won the game.
And guess what?
You're fucking right.
You did.
Yeah, Mizorowski is a double-edged sword right now because, you know, could he have thrown more bullets tonight, absolutely.
But with what Pat Murphy has to work with in the bullpen right now, why would you?
Why would you risk it?
And another thing, hey, Mizorowski, who has some cool stuff here, like he joins Cole Hamels as the only pitchers,
24 or younger to start game one of a DS, a CS, a CS, and a World Series.
So we kind of, I think we can get blinded by the fact that he's a complete freak.
the hardest pitch ever thrown in a World Series.
That happened today casually.
He's going to win the Cy Young.
He's also very young, and, hey, the playoffs are different.
We talk about that in a lot of aspects,
and Mizorowski still hasn't had his moment,
and it could be coming in this World Series.
You could argue his relief appearances last year were hyper-impressive,
but also he, if his bullpen wasn't as special as it was,
he would have gotten more leash today,
but he didn't need to because they're freaks out there.
So he ended up throwing 78 pitches tonight.
And so we've had this conversation before.
Like, okay, he's going to throw game one.
He's going to throw game five.
Say it goes seven.
Do we see Miz in game seven?
I don't think we do.
The way that they've handled him?
No.
What makes you think they're going to risk that the way they've handled him this postseason?
What's the max number of pitches he's thrown in the start,
I'm sure you could look that up.
I don't, 80 something?
I don't think he'd start game 7.
I think he pitches in it.
I think it would be Chris Sale.
I get that.
He ain't shutting the game down.
He's not Walker Bueller right now.
He's not mad bum right now.
He pitched great out of the bullpen last year.
I understand that, but they're not using him like that.
I don't even know why we're here.
Yeah, because we're excited.
I'm excited.
94, when do you throw that?
Testosterone is flowing.
94.
Did we eat bone marrow tonight?
We ate bone marrow tonight.
And while we were eating it, you were just like, that's testosterone.
And I don't know if that's true.
I don't think it is at all.
But like, if you think it, you manifest things, guys.
Something felt natural about it.
Why don't we go into the game?
Misarowski is fantastic.
I think something that, again, you know, we did our preview episode and we tried to get it out to the people as early as possible.
We assume Drew Rasmussen would be starting this game because he's been arguably the most important player of the postseason so far.
cool sentence.
He did not.
They gave it to Nick Martinez.
Martinez has been great on the road this year.
I think the race are something like 24 and 9 when he just starts games this year.
And they wanted to give Rasmus in the extra day.
This also pushed Freddie Peralta to game three in the Trop, which I think we all had like,
we had a really nice baseball moment in this world of analytics and what do we like, what do we
don't like?
We're like, you know what, Freddie Peralta not facing all of his former teammates in Milwaukee,
where he became a man where he had his kids.
Like, you know what?
Why don't you pitch in the trap?
We'll just take all of that out of it.
So Nick Martinez gets the pill.
And as we've talked about through the year,
I mean, sneakily, one of the best free agent signings this year,
a guy that's just an absolute dog,
whether it's the four years in Japan,
whether it's doing post-game pressers,
holding light beers while he does it,
that he comes into this.
And I guess there is like a slight feeling of,
are the rays holding their best punch?
you know,
I don't think they see it that way.
I mean,
their strength of this team right now
is probably their starting pitching.
It has been throughout the playoffs.
And I think that you mentioned,
Nick Martinez has been great on the road.
And it does make sense.
I love the Peralta back in Tampa.
Yeah.
Just removes a little extra emotion from it
that you maybe don't need.
I like that a lot.
It gets Raspisant on,
on normal rest, everything makes sense.
I don't mind this.
It's a seven-game set, guys.
I think that's what we have to remember.
And I get, like, I think the stat is
the team that wins the first game wins 63% of the time.
Okay, great.
Like, the race had a chance here in the end
to win this game, no doubt about it.
I think we kind of get into the game.
Number one, we were sitting there
and, like, guys do,
we're like, first pitch to the game, what we got.
And Dalts said fastball up and in.
I'm glad to give them credit for that.
Fastball up and in.
Because we are going to slaughter his eating habits later.
But, yeah, it's one pitch, and I'm happy for you, and I'm happy for God.
It's the last compliment, Dahl's going to get tonight.
It's all going downhill from here.
Yeah.
Dude, this game is.
Okay, let me just start by saying this.
Again, I feel like...
We can start the episode now.
Yeah, here it is.
Welcome to the agency squad.
I knew you were going there.
And we're, like, serious about this, guys, we're, like, not that you care.
I enjoy the show.
Anyways, so you're thinking that we are going to be talking mess about Ms.
But we're not because I do want to kind of emphasize
Martinez was just as good as Ms. tonight.
And the difference is early in the game,
the race clanked a few balls.
And clank is maybe not the right word
because DeLuca lays out for ball.
Hard hit for yellage and doesn't get it.
there. I mean, that's a freaking 20% play. The one to Taylor Walls that Contreras ends up hitting,
that's obviously, I think he makes that play more often than not. But Tampa also did the same
exact thing to Mizorowski. They hit the ball hard against him early on, but it ended up being like
right at people. It did feel like early on in this game, and the first inning is a really good
example, that it did feel like if you did luck ratings in this game, that,
the rays were slightly unlucky.
And then the base rank, it's like...
I know that gets tricky.
I know that gets tricky,
but even in that first inning,
Camerro comes up with two on.
First inning, Brewers' first game in 44 years.
Mizorowski, for how special as he is,
he doesn't have the postseason pedigree
that Camerro's up,
and he line drives into a double play.
What was that?
The XIV though,
was it great on that, but to your point,
it's still two outs in one sport?
Yeah, if that's in the hole,
is it an RBI and then two on?
85.3, 75 plus it.
So you didn't hit it hard.
Not a bullet.
But it ends up being a double play
when like typically
that wouldn't be a double play.
So just how about this?
We're going to go to this.
I'm going to count the race
base running blunders tonight.
That's one.
Okay.
You can't get doubled up right there.
You can't.
Bottom of the first.
Martinez comes out.
Trurio.
No.
No.
Churio.
Churio.
You got it.
Come on.
People here say Trurio,
but on baseball reference.
You told me to say.
pronunciation guy is churio it's not churio it's churio first pitch cutter single and that's obvious
bowers flies out and here comes yelly the the man who the story of his postseason was he never rb i you know
since his first game he hasn't had an rbi i well now he's doing that he has a triple it goes off
midnight johnny's glove deluca i mean as you're mentioning i mean a crazy play the fact he even
gets that ball is shocking
You asked Johnny that.
He said that's a 50-50 ball.
Right, because if you're an outfielder that gets there, you think you're going to get there.
For anybody watching, that's a zero-percenter.
The odds are, oh, if you're a listener to the show.
Unless you're Kevin Kiermeyer, I guess.
Kiermire, we know you're listening.
KKK, what's up?
You got that ball.
Good for you.
That that gets down.
And then it's instead of, you know, an out and who knows what was going on with the base running,
runner on third, contrarious singles, it's two nothing.
The place is gone.
Off of Wall's glove.
Off of Wall's glove.
Infield in, like I don't know.
I feel a little better about...
Everybody plays infield in.
Facts.
That's the thing.
There's no such thing as infield back
in a run scoring situation anymore.
Which took me a while to understand,
but like the numbers are what the numbers are.
Yeah.
This is obviously, I actually think this is obviously
a place where you play the infield in.
Yes. Yes.
And I, again, Walls would tell you
he catches that 90% of the time.
I think that's infield in,
hard hit ball, and that's the whole point of...
What was that Exavilo?
Exivilo.
Dalt's on it.
I don't think it was hit that hard either.
And while Dalt's on it,
let me tell you guys about Shopify.
This episode is sponsored by Shopify.
Our merch store has grown a lot.
License MLB gear.
Teams across the whole league,
we actually just dropped some new sick brewer's stuff.
And where Shopify has become essential,
it connects those products to people.
That's kind of the whole thing.

That's right, people.
Did I write the code for that?
No.
Chat Gapit.

Did we get an exit V?
It's 108.4.
We were watching a small TV.
It was a tiny TV.
Taylor Walls infield in?
Okay.
Respect, Taylor Walls.
I get it.
William Contreras.
I know.
Okay, 1008.4 off the bat.
Again, we were watching on a small TV.
TV replays were at a minimal.
Well, hey.
We're here.
I guess, and this is going to be an overarching theme, I think of this entire...
He still catches that a lot, dude.
I think of this series and this game, and maybe this is lame-o-talk.
But, dude, I mean, this game, if you could change...
All right, if we were Magic Genies, which is a game you and me play a lot,
especially when we're on this couch.
If you could just change two plays...
It's not fair for those.
The race could win this game.
The more I'm looking at these plays, again,
now I'm like getting replays.
Do you know what I'm saying though?
Like, sure.
Johnny DeLuca catches that ball.
But there's more.
Agree.
But I'm just saying that's how close this game was.
This is a three-two final with fireworks going off in the ninth inning
while the game still happening.
That if you change one play in this game,
I think you change the outcome.
If you change two plays in this game,
you could easily change the outcome.
The DeLuca ball, the catch probability on his,
is probably not very good.
Although, like, that's silly.
I don't even like to say that.
I wish it was a cool as that.
It's kind of not.
Like a baseball play, it's less than 50-50.
Correct.
It is.
He put it, like, Yelich put it in the right spot.
Okay, he did.
He had a good ball.
And then that 108 infield in, it also, like, yes,
Taylor Walls is incredible.
And he will also probably say,
I catch that ball 80% of the time,
maybe 90% of the time.
But it's 108 in your,
you're standing 90 feet away from the plate, dude.
It's crazy.
Exactly.
And also, like, what I was, part of what I was trying to drive on.
I love the Ump Cam.
Up cam for replay is fantastic.
I get it, okay.
And they're going to get there.
But like, even, okay, that Johnny, Johnny DeLuca bounces and the right fielder, Mesa grabs it,
and Yelie stays at second, then is the line drive caught?
Like, I know you.
Yelie's getting a third on that play.
You can't do that with baseball, but I guess I just want to drive home the point, like,
how close tonight's game.
truly was.
Sure.
Both pitchers kind of lock in for a little bit.
And I think where I want to fast forward to is the fourth, top of the fourth.
Mizorowski walks Aranda, who, again, there's only so much credit I should give myself,
because if you're someone that does listen to this and you know ball, I feel like Jonathan
Iranda has been my number one, like, this guy just hits and is a problem.
He walks in this at bat, but there's a reason for that.
Caminero doubles, and I guess this is what I'm going back to,
these two teams that the whole conversation this week is like,
good baseball, and they do things the right way,
and it's defense and it's situational.
Almost the first three runs come from not defensive miscues,
but from defensive plays that if an A play is made,
probably a run is prevented,
but if a B plus play is made, a run is not prevented,
and that's with the Caminero liner to center
that leads to the Hicks roundout.
Yeah, so we're talking about two elite defenses.
That's why we're even mentioning any of this.
I mean, we're expecting the terrific plates
we made almost every single time with these teams
with like maybe like the caveat of probably not Junior Camerror,
although he at the back end of the game.
Yeah.
Him in fullet.
Hello.
We expect like a.
extraordinary place we made throughout this series.
And tonight, a couple weren't early on.
But I do want to say, like, Nick Bartina's, Jacob Mizorowski,
essentially looked the same in this game as far as, like, were they in control of the game?
Nick Martinez, after that first, or the, yeah, was it the first?
Yeah.
Yeah.
He settled down and was great.
How many in a row?
12, 13?
12 of 13, yeah.
So, like, you know, he had the new, you know, sometimes you get a, they're switching hats now every single series.
And gosh, maybe every single game, like they're just selling these World Series hats.
But, you know, you get a new hat.
It didn't look like the hat fit Nick Martinez tonight.
And, like, I got a head that's in between sizes, so I get it.
There's sometimes, like, the hat fits you.
By the way, love you new era because great hats.
But also, sometimes your seven and a quarter doesn't fit.
like a seven and a quarter to me.
So what you're saying is very fair,
and I think the good people at New Arrow would admit that too.
I also think me and Nick Martinez
suffer from a similar thing.
The ears are just out enough.
You have big ears? I have big ears.
I don't have big ears, but they're just out enough.
Yoda ears.
A little bit. A little bit.
You hear everything.
To the perimeter you must go.
Anyways, I noticed that.
The brim, he needed to the round it,
just a little bit more.
I think that kind of plays
for Nick Martinez.
You know what I'm saying?
I don't care what the hat looks like.
Here's a high change-up.
No, Martinez locked in, man.
And he was nasty with that high fastball, high change-up in the cutter, too.
He really got into a groove that it was one of those moments that I talk about this
with baseball games a lot, but the fact that they were up to nothing and the fact that it
turned into 2-1, it felt like the raise had the momentum.
And they did.
And they did.
And I guess that fourth inning could have got worse.
Okay. Fourth inning, go.
Common Arrow, the line drive to center, like we talked about a little bit, which again, it would have been a plus play by Mitchell. It ends up not being.
And then Liam Hicks is up, which Liam Hicks ended up in a couple big spots tonight.
Yes, he did. Which, again, for a trade deadline catcher, lefty from the Marlins, 5'9 kind of short king, how are you?
He ends up having the two RBIs tonight on crown outs, which it's interesting. Somehow feels like a lot.
Right, right?
And that's so unfair.
You got two ribbies in a playoff game, but you didn't do your job.
That's what it feels like.
His first at bat, it felt like he did his job.
Yes, 100%.
He survived Mizorowski, and then the second one, I don't know.
I'm still processing it.
But you know what?
He also did his job.
We just saw it as a double play.
Well, so I'll say that as we were looking at the race lineup tonight,
which, by the way, if you're a baseball person,
where we're at is wild.
And I'm so interested on how we're going to look back at this World Series in three years
because I remember Texas, Arizona as it happening.
I was like, I'm excited for this.
A, Jake Snakes, I was pretty locked in.
You were in the pool.
Texas was also putting on an exhibition.
They took down the Astros, like Adoles was going nuts.
In hindsight, we look back on that World Series not super fondly.
There was a lot of blowouts.
It wasn't necessarily the best baseball.
The road team won every game, right?
The three hitter for the raise tonight.
Which one was that?
No, that was 2019.
Astros.
Astros, Nats have the thing with all the road teams.
Three hitter for Tampa Bay tonight?
Three hitter?
No, no, no.
Who was the three-hitter?
Oh, my God.
Chandler Simpson.
Chandler Simpson.
Oh, yeah.
I'm very interested to see how we look back at that.
Johnny DeLucah, who's a...
Why, though?
No, here's where I'm fast forward.
Because I actually don't mind that.
Like, I think I've been an advocate that I think more content.
needs to come into baseball, especially in what used to be the power spots, because it brings up
contact situations. I would say, I do think Johnny DeLuca stood out tonight.
Johnny DeLuca was hitting sixth.
Liam Hicks has been an impact hitting catcher.
He was hitting fifth tonight.
DeLuca was hitting sixth.
He went 0 for 4.
Victor Mesa, who you've mentioned is just like a wild card.
Like he feels like an impact player.
He's hitting seventh.
And then Williamson, Walls, they're in there for defense that you're kind of
expecting nothing in the nicest way offensively.
Johnny DeLuca's spot came up in a lot of big situations tonight,
even the end of the game, which is unfair.
There's fireworks going off.
We thought the game was over.
That felt like, if I'm reflecting on the two teams,
that felt like one of the significant differences tonight.
I disagree because the Brewers have, I think, the same exact thing you're talking about,
a lighter bottom of the order.
Now, you can say, okay, Mitchell hit some bombs.
He had a great homer in the NLCS.
Great.
But if you're going past Terang, you're going Mitchell, Pratt, Freelick, Hamilton tonight.
Those are all defensive-oriented players.
Like, Mitchell's maybe past Mitchell, because I think during the year he's been great.
Mitchell's had a big postseason.
Okay, so get past Mitchell.
So that's past, Hicks and Mitchell at the same spot.
They're both five-hole guys, right?
Am I wrong about that?
One, two, three, four, five.
I think Mitchell's six.
Okay.
So him and DeLuca, the two-send.
Okay.
Yeah, but after that, it's very defensive-oriented.
I think we saw some weird, like, Hamilton hits the...
I guess...
Could have been a triple, be it buntz early in the game.
I know what you're saying about DeLuca.
I get that, but it didn't affect, like, Hicks.
Like, they didn't walk Hicks tonight.
Like, he got pitched to in these situations.
Correct.
No, I guess...
Yeah, I'm questioning myself.
if I'm being fair or not about it.
But I will say, like, Milwaukee having Mitchell in there as the six-hitter
versus a right-handed pitcher is a little different than Johnny DeLuca as the six-hitter
against Jacob Miserows.
We're not there yet, but I guess you're already mentioning it.
So, worse, where's Cedric Mollins in that last abat?
That's a good question.
I'm not sure where he was.
I haven't even really given a thought to that at all until just right now.
But we were talking about, okay, is he going to be in there at some point?
McGill is on the mound?
Dalt, I mean, do we got reverse splits, all these things?
I'm sure the race have done their due diligence and know, like, we want this matchup because that's
what they do.
So let's get to the next momentum moment.
Dalt's looking at reverse splits.
For everyone tuning in with us, again, thank you guys so much.
Miguel has reverse splits, by the way, which makes sense.
You know, these World Series, we're literally, we're on Rob Chiracroko's hotel couch.
We're going to sleep here tonight.
It's going to get rowdy.
Eno, where are you out, Eno?
Our script for these shows is a little all over the board, as you already know.
I think where we have to go to next.
Okay.
The Reyes have a little bit of mo.
Are you going to the sixth?
Code for momentum.
The fifth.
The end of the fifth.
Yes, okay.
Victor Mesa Jr., Wildcarts, single.
Williamson Groundout.
Mesa gets the second.
Walls follows out.
Two outs in the inning.
By the way,
Hamilton threw that ball in the dirt
and a bad throw
and Bowers made an incredible pick
at first base.
They didn't even call it a pick.
The guy was a in-between hop
and he had to go up and get,
watch this.
I mean, watch this.
So Hamilton's not using the ground
like he should right there.
He was trying to throw the entire way.
Use the ground, big dog.
Balance past it for your life.
There's a lot.
I do understand.
Woo!
about this beautiful sport.
When first baseman go to the other side of the bag
and do stuff like that, my brain does not compute.
So that's, again, a great play by Jake Bowers,
who up until this point of his career
was kind of like a utility man who didn't have a position.
And he's making that play in the World Series.
Either way, this leads up to Yandi Diaz versus Jacob Mizorowski.
Real quick.
Trev's going to bring it back, it seems.
I will.
But if he does, this is the thing we would talk about all,
Giggly squad. Subscribe. Subscribe. If he doesn't make that play,
best case scenario for Milwaukee is that it's first and third nobody out.
Most likely scenario, Mesa scores and Williamson is on second.
That's the most likely scenario. So instead of that, all of a sudden now, it's run on third base with an out.
And the ripple effects, we're going to talk about the further this series goes.
D.L. Hall was up in the bullpen ready to come in this game.
The bullpins were up early, both of them, yes.
And awesome.
Like, we kind of been waiting for this.
They end up.
Brian Baker was throwing at some points.
He wasn't throwing.
He was getting loose.
Pilates, Pilates, yeah.
They showed him.
That we were saying, I'm watching the Taylor Walls a bat, which again, that's not his specialty in why he's out there.
But it was like, okay, like, let's get Yondi up here,
third time against Mizorowski with a runner on second.
Man, I very much enjoy Victor Mesa Jr.
I think his arm has been awesome.
I think the electricity he provides has been awesome.
What he did for the final out of the inning can't happen.
And not even old school can't make the last out at third.
Like, dude, this was a Yandi Diaz single ties the game.
It takes Mizorowski out of the game.
brings D.L. Hall in the game.
And even if it doesn't, you're in the same spot.
That's just, that's, that's really rough.
That's really rough.
I hated it, coach.
Rob, try to find the Victor Mesa Jr.
outfit from earlier today because I think that plays into it.
Just saying, you'll see what I mean.
He saw a self-free that you were earlier in the game and got like, you know,
I could do that too.
I'll get to third base with two hours.
Do you think there's a little right-field or stuff there, too?
No, but I think he's like, both these teams play.
with reckless abandonment and their coaches.
I heard Yelly talk about this.
We all have the green light until we don't.
Until you're out.
Yeah.
Same thing.
The rays are like, yeah, run.
We trust you guys.
Victim Mesa Jr., I'll tell you this right now,
for the rest of the postseason,
we'll not be stealing third with two outs.
He won't.
I'll bet you on that.
You want it?
I'll bet you a spotted cow on that.
He will?
Because I don't think Victor Mesa plays like that.
Maybe not.
With his outfit that Robbie's going to show you soon,
he might just say, all right, Cash, cool, bro.
I don't think Victor Mason plays.
Go play your poker.
Let's continue on.
It's a 2-1 game.
Again, Martinez is rolling.
He's on a streak.
David Hamilton hits a double to the corner
that he tries to turn into a triple,
and Victor Mason Jr.
hits the relay to Williamson.
Hamilton stumbles going around second.
He gets thrown out, which was like, Rob's got it up on the YouTube for everyone right now.
And again, like the stumble ends up not slowing him down that much, but it's also just so watching a bang, bang play and watching a guy take a stumble and a stutter step, you're like, well, that's the difference.
So they actually cut to that angle in real time during the broadcast.
So you saw him stutter as the play was happening.
And then really, yeah, great Victor Mercer Jr.
makes a great playoff to Karam, a great throw to Williamson,
and a great throw to third base.
I mean, it was a perfect defensive play,
but the Stumble was the entire thing right there.
Yeah, and as we get into the final part of this game,
shout out to our sales team.
And shout out to booking.com.
Booking.
Yeah, an official travel partner of MLB.
Booking.com makes it easy for every baseball fan
to travel and catch a game, wherever the team's schedule takes them, a playoff game,
a weekend series, even a random Tuesday in a city you've never been to.
It all counts.
The thing about following baseball is that every ballpark comes with a whole city worth exploring.
The neighborhood that turns into a tailgate.
Yep.
The food spots, locals actually go to the streets that buzz a little differently on game day.
Every stadium has its own version of that.
And booking.com makes it easy to find a great hotel or vacation home right in the middle of it.
Wherever that happens to be, once somewhere gets in your head, go on, book that trip.
It's easy.
The easiest way from where you are to where you want to be,
booking.com.
Booking.
Yeah, an official travel partner of MLB,
Major League Baseball Trademarks, used with Permission.
From there, Abner, your eBay comes in and set a deal hall.
So this is the whole, what's the plan,
the pitching plan going to look like?
And again, I mentioned at the beginning of the episode,
if you can say I'm going to go Ms. to Uribe,
to Ashby, to McGill, you're going to win that game.
And that's exactly.
there's 12 outs to get.
And this has happened throughout the postseason.
How are they going to get the 12 outs?
And I think Murph wants to use those three guys to get the 12 outs.
And usually it's Uribe and Ashby figuring out nine of those outs.
And then McGill coming in for the last three.
He's done, he's done an inning in a quarter or inning in third, whatever.
Indian quarter is crazy.
Ending in a quarter is crazy.
That's crazy.
That's never happened.
Never happened.
Never happened once in the story of Major League Baseball or any baseball.
If we're being honest, maybe Blitzball.
Usually the extra outs go to Uribe and Ash people.
They've come in different kind of lengths than whatever it is.
Uribe's in first.
He's rested at the end of the NLCS.
The Dodgers had seen him quite a bit,
and he walks some guys.
But he's been that guy throughout the entire season.
I didn't think there was going to be a waiver from Murph whatsoever,
whether it's a hauler or a Romero,
it was always going to be those three guys,
and it ended up being those three guys.
Yeah, and I guess something to watch,
if the series does going six or seven,
didn't do the hands.
Cash, I gave him credit for this earlier.
He protected his bullpen from getting overexposed.
Did it again.
He did it again, which that's why I'm putting it out there,
where you mentioned Murph's plan,
which has been perfect.
They swept the Dodgers.
Like, they beat the Padres
and four. That's why it worked, though. That's why it worked, dude.
They played the minimum games, basically. That's what I'm saying. If this series goes longer,
those guys could run into a different situation. Where Stephen Maths comes out, he has a
Snell inning, three outs, walks two guys. The inning in between this, which is going to get
overlooked, and I guess this would be my Jake, mark it down as innings you'll completely
forget. Seven inning. Sixth inning. Your eBay comes in.
Aranda singles because he's a bad man.
Yes.
And then Chandler Simpson, full count, 3-2.
What happened here?
I need to know what happened.
A horrible check swing.
It was a two-strike pitch, right?
They send Aranda on the pitch, full count.
Full count.
Because they're thinking Simpson's going to put it in play.
Okay.
I thought it was just a two-strike count.
It was a full count.
It's different.
And then Simpson ends up having a tough check swing against one of the tougher pitchers.
You only do, you do this to stay out of the double play.
And Chandler-Seption can run.
It's a great point.
It's a great point.
Okay.
In my head, I was like this was a two-strike pitch and what the hell is it
ran a doing?
They sent him because it's a full count and that's just what you do on a full count
with one out, basically, especially with a contact-oriented player.
But you're not going to roll into a DP with that.
A massive moment that will kind of get forgotten.
Because if Chandler Simpson ends up checking that swing,
it's first and second, one out, Uribe on the ropes,
and said, out of the inning.
Yeah.
Crazy.
Yeah.
Let's see.
Mats comes back out.
That's the Snell inning.
Uribe comes in.
He gets Caminero, which a little DR on DR there,
three pitches, three strikes.
Asby finishes a seven.
Gets him on a bad slider, but it ends up working.
It will, yeah, it's never.
never went down, yeah. And that's when the Ashby show happens. And I guess there's a question,
like, if you're a reliever rolling that well in the postseason, is that going to continue
into the next series? And it does. He strikes out Hicks left on left. He gets Johnny,
midnight Johnny to strike out. And I guess maybe Trev, this is where things, okay, so we just said
the Matt's thing worked out that he doesn't go to his bullpen. He extends mats. He gives up a lead-off walk to
Cooper Pratt.
Eight pitch of bat, by the way.
Let's give some love to the young cup.
Wall plays a nice play against Hamilton.
Against Hamilton.
Freelick lined out before that.
They go to Kelly out of the bullpen and first pitch,
Tru Rio gets another hit.
RBI single Pratt scores that I guess you could do,
if this was talking raise,
you could do a little second guessing of sending mats out there for another
inning because I guess that is the run that ends up scoring.
that as this game finishes 3-2, that makes it 3-1.
That felt like game over to me.
And by Churrio, the Brewers led MLB with the best batting average,
403-6-55 slug on the first pitch.
Churio, am I saying that right?
446 and 850.
Churio.
Like, Chu Rio.
I feel like I'm saying that.
I know.
It's fine.
446, 815 slug on the first pitch.
He doesn't care.
He doesn't care.
He doesn't care about me.
Also, I'll put this in the bag if we're doing not care.
He's going to be a guy that looks old when he's old.
Weird that you said that.
He's so young.
How do you know?
Because he kind of doesn't look horribly young now.
They're like when he's 32, I think it's going to be like, we've seen this guy for a decade and he looks old.
Hate that take from you.
I don't like it from me.
But if I don't share that with the people, then I don't know what I'm doing.
That's fine.
At that point, 3-1 felt like game over to me.
Correct.
And it wasn't, but it felt like...
I didn't agree with you.
I didn't agree with you.
You were right.
Ashby comes out, Ponche, Poncee, Ponche, Ryan Valade Pinchett.
Hello.
Ground out short.
Kevin Kelly, Garrett Clevenger appearance.
He was like a questionable, is he going to be on or off the roster this world series?
He comes back on.
Get to the bottom of the 9th.
Thank dog.
Let's get to the bottom of the knife.
Luis Lara, right field.
Joey Ortiz.
We bring the defensive unit in.
Yandi, grounds out to third.
Trevor McGill is in.
Jonathan Aranda single to right.
Three for four?
Three for three.
Three for three?
Yeah.
And he had a walk.
He's currently, okay.
I mean, something that we should incorporate in these episodes is like,
who's the bad man?
Right now, Jonathan Aranda is the bad man.
Okay, you know I love my Cuban ball players.
My second favorite.
Mexico.
Yeah.
You grew up in L.A.
You love.
I hate to do this on camera.
My Mexican brothers, you know.
I'm coming to one of your rich people Mexico trips this offseason.
That's not what I'm talking about whatsoever.
I don't care.
No.
I'm just putting that out there for me.
You're in.
You're in.
Okay.
No doubt about maybe not on the plane, but like you can meet us there.
I don't want to be on the flight.
Okay.
Dude, I mean, look, again, I think we see it in the major league, we see a majorly baseball all the time.
But as a guy in Los Angeles coming up playing the game, you're going to face Mexican baseball players, and they ball.
They ball.
They love baseball.
And I love when we get it at the major league level.
Randy or Rosarena, like, doesn't really count.
He's Cuban.
Tricky.
Aranda.
Yeah.
There's a story out now about talking about the scout who.
signed him was there to see Randy.
Randy didn't show up for the workout.
And they said, okay, who else
you got? And they looked at a Randa,
who was a shortstop at the time?
I'm like, yeah, we'll sign him 130 grand.
Come sign with us at 16. Sure.
Here he is, going three for three in a playoff
game. And one of the sweeter swings
that doesn't get talked about.
He's a hitter.
Mexican Freddie Freeman.
Oh, that's, okay.
Whoa.
Oh!
No.
Anyways.
Give me Adrian Gonzalez.
He's from San Diego.
Chandler Simpson, two strikes.
Looks like he's hurt.
Nailed one.
Chandler Simpson, like, I bought all the stock.
You guys are fucked.
Mateo, pinch runs for Miranda.
Camerro comes up.
Simpson and Mateo steal second and third.
Camerro walks.
They steal second and third, and it was like, oh, shit.
It's 3-1.
And we just got that happening with Caminero at the plate against McGill.
Huge baseball right here, people.
He walks, bases loaded.
Liam Hicks, a lefty comes up.
We mentioned the reverse splits, whatever it is.
But you're in the position now where a base hit ties the game.
A ball in the gap puts you ahead.
And, you know, he's been a guy for them.
Yeah.
No, middle of the lineup.
Yep, he's been great for them.
Looks like a double play.
Smells like a double play.
All of Milwaukee thought it was a double play.
At the restaurant we were at started chanting,
let's go, Brewers.
And this guy did.
I have a video of it, but it's not great.
We had an Uber set up to get back here to record as fast as possible.
We left thinking the game was over.
That's fine for people to know that.
The whole building did.
Everyone did.
Even the stadium did.
Fireworks went off.
The game was not over.
It wasn't.
Midnight Johnny DeLuca comes up against McGill.
Basically your fingerprints.
Everywhere.
Everywhere.
Mama McGill shout out.
We know you're listening.
Arguably your favorite pitcher of the season.
Yeah.
Versus a man who came up to you right before midnight two new years ago.
No, like four.
It was a while ago.
He wasn't like a major leaguer yet.
He was not.
McGill misses up, comes back in the zone, misses up again,
and then he comes back with two knuckle curves that he ends up getting Johnny with,
strikes him out.
Hey, McGill's been one of the better relievers this year.
Again, I was probably too harsh on Midnight Johnny before,
but I guess if you're zooming in on one game,
I'm now talking about two very, very,
impactful midnight Johnny at bats that I guess if I was looking at Dodgers team previously who was
hitting six for them was it a Tay Oscar was it so tonny well this postseason yes they're not in the
world series this postseason but yes I don't know it's a tough ask and I don't know I would still say like
the brewers were the better team today I'm not out here saying like Tampa got jobed or anything
like that I think they played similar games I thought Milwaukee was better I didn't make mistakes
And they, I guess maybe this is a mental separator that shouldn't be, but like you said, Milwaukee executed their A plan today and won.
Tampa executed their B plan today and were close to winning, but they didn't win.
Well, they didn't, they can't execute your A plan when you're behind.
Like, Milwaukee wouldn't have done that if they were trailing three once.
So, like, they got the lead.
I think it does come down to the first couple innings in the difference of Adam balls and not Adam balls, essentially.
It truly did.
Those plays get made by walls.
I know it's a tough one.
DeLuca, tough one.
There was multiple balls hit early on in the game.
They were just right at people for the Rays.
That changed everything.
And we're talking about the steel, Victim Mesa Jr.
Like those things changed games.
So I do think they played very similarly today,
except that the Rays made like a ton of mistakes.
Maybe they didn't.
Oh, Milwaukee didn't make any mistakes.
I like this.
I like this.
Made two base running mistakes
and had a couple plays go
where they probably
normally want to go the other way.
Because Nick Martinez matched them.
Stephen Matt's pitch fine,
maybe one bad or too much.
But like,
I think the pitching was great today.
They scored three runs.
But it was just like the base running,
the defensive plays
where we like said,
okay, the Ray's like kind of have this.
We both,
no, we actually both said
the Milwaukee's defense is better.
They're very close.
My God.
Like this is like two of the same things going at each other.
Milwaukee did it, Rays did not.
I guess there is the two center field balls, if you want to neutralize those,
Mitchell and DeLuca, in the gap, line driver at Mitchell.
Line driver, as all the baseball people say.
Mesa thrown out at third.
That one is tough for me.
I mean, I guess Hamilton got thrown out.
Hamilton gets thrown out.
I think those are different situations.
One was to make the second out.
You're up.
You're going for third base to get to third base with less than two outs.
I think those are different a little bit.
We've talked about the line drive off walls.
Yeah, I mean, I guess it's slight,
but I guess it goes back to my encompassing thoughts about this series on the whole
that it's going to be tight.
Like that's how these teams play.
Also, Brewers, you threw your number one guy.
And the rays have their number one and two coming for you next.
So, like, look, Milwaukee did a great job tonight.
win game one.
They're in a great spot.
We're going to be in the building tomorrow.
The Rays didn't really fire their best bullet tonight.
And maybe they should have.
And we'll see how that plays out for them.
They have a game plan with it.
Nick Martinez was, again, like, fine.
Five innings pitch.
I think it was five hits, no walk, six case, two runs.
I think that was the final line.
Somewhere around there, right?
Five Ks, not six Ks.
No walks.
So he pitched great.
Enough.
He, I mean, he basically,
besides those runs,
pitch the same as Mizorowski.
How many Ks did Mizorowski have?
Three Ks.
Three Ks for Mizorowski.
Crazy.
The rays were on him early.
They were.
So look, again,
if you're Tampa,
this sucks, you lost,
but I think you can say,
all right,
we just made some boneheaded plays
and a couple of defensive balls
didn't go our way,
but this was not a blowout.
This wasn't one team,
like, flexing,
and, like, we were so much better.
It wasn't.
It truly wasn't.
No. I guess, well, I have some big picture notes from Dalton,
and I know you and your friend, Claude, we're talking about the game a little bit.
So let's close off this game, and then we could tee up the other one.
As we mentioned, game one winner of the World Series is 163.6% of the time.
Okay.
The Brewers are now 2 in 0 all time in World Series game once.
So shout out to the 82 Cardinals.
They also score two runs in game one of 82.
and two runs in game one of
2006 in the first inning.
The raise are 0 and 3 in World Series game 1s,
so that's not history they're enjoying.
I mentioned the Hamelstadt.
That was kind of fun.
William Contreras threw out two base runners
attempting to steal tonight.
Before tonight, the rays were 11, 11 on stolen bases.
That's true.
We forgot to mention that.
I know the Aranda hit and run with Simpson
that we talked about.
I mean, that was, he was a dead duck.
The other one was
The Mesa.
Yeah, we mentioned both in my story.
Again, we did put a little bit of that Mesa Jr.
But if that throw is a little higher, Mesa Jr. gets in there.
It's a silly baseball.
I'm sorry.
It is.
It is one of the best players in baseball.
I know.
That felt a little MLB network, but I believe in that in my heart.
Who would they give up for him?
Estuary Ruiz.
What a name?
What the heck's going on?
By the way, still contributing.
Was he a Dodger this year?
Was that last year?
That was last year.
Last three first inning triples in game one of the world series.
Christian Yelich, your guy.
Freddie Freeman, my guy.
Bill Russell thought he played NBA basketball.
Not basketball Bill Russell.
So that's new.
Rays were the best team in one-run games this year.
They lost this game by one run.
Ashby is on like Legacy Watch.
Yeah, kind of.
14 innings pitched this postseason.
Second most scoreless innings pitched by a reliever in a postseason
with zero starts since Goose Gossage.
Okay.
That's how you get remembered, people.
Andy, you cross 0.2 more innings, a quarter of an inning or so.
We start calling you Geese Ashby.
Look, I love me Samir and Ashby.
We've known about them for a long time as we, you know,
Mike Yadnozio has been telling us about this guy for a long time.
I like you.
The fact that you know KMAC and respect him, I lost respect.
No, I didn't lose respect for you.
Oh.
That's mean.
Yeah, that was mean.
KMack, I never have respect for you, ever.
Albatross, Ashby.
People are talking.
I like that.
Let's tee up tomorrow's game a little bit.
We are going to be in the building.
So, I mean.
Get ready for that.
I don't know if they're going to be able to play.
If the T levels could get any higher, they're going to regardless.
Drew Rasmussen, as we've talked about.
He will be getting the pill for Tampa,
and he's having a historic postseason.
Wow, Dalton cooked up something crazy.
Logan Henderson on the bump from Milwaukee,
a little bit of insider information.
Did we see his cousin at one of the bars tonight?
Maybe.
And he seemed like a pretty nice cat.
Sit there drinking in Miller Light like he should be.
Yeah, because we're in Milwaukee.
What's your Dalton stat?
I'm going to Fanatics.
You want to get into that?
Let's get into it.
It's time to make our same game parlay for game two presented by Fanatic Sports
and Casino.
What do you got, Coach, Rob?
Well, this is kind of a raise night.
Dalton's feeling the raise.
So he's going to go a four-gamer.
Drew Rasmus in seven or more K's.
You got that done?
He's a freak.
He is a freak.
Nicest guy ever.
What the hell?
Jonathan Miranda, one or more hits.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No doubt.
Tru Rio, one or more hits.
Probably the first pitch that he sees of the game.
Ray's money.
She's okay, Daltono.
That'll get you plus 760.
Big number.
If you like to follow along.
Okay.
Okay.
Make every bet count at Fanatics.
only sports book to reward every bet.
Do you see Joe Madden talking about Dr. Rasmussen?
No.
He was like getting too emotional to talk.
Yeah, I don't know.
Every time he talks, I'm scared a little bit.
Each word kind of didn't make sense, but it was kind of beautiful.
And I think that's kind of the Joe Madden experience.
I don't know.
Is there anything you want to let off your chest about tomorrow's game or tonight's game or anything else?
We saw four of these cars with only three wheels tonight next to each other.
That was crazy.
What are those?
Are they spiders or something like that?
What?
Spiders have eight legs.
These have three wheels.
Final shout out to Milwaukee.
Yeah, great vibe right now.
Again, I think there's going to be a lot in the media about slingshots.
No free ads.
I wear those swimming as well.
I think the city of Milwaukee, like you mentioned, Coach, we talked about,
You know, who are the biggest sports fans?
Like, Philly's crazy.
Watch out in Boston.
I'll tell you what, if you're doing like per capita,
how does this area have the Green Bay Packers,
one of the most historic football teams?
How does this area treat tonight like they did with the Milwaukee Brewers?
It was a special night.
Like, it was really cool.
I think it was really cool that we were here tonight because it was a special night for the city.
Like, if you were in the city and you didn't care about the Brewers,
you were the ick.
Yeah, 100%.
Welcome to Giggly Squad.
I had a discussion about this with my guy 9,
and we were talking about Milwaukee.
That's Matthew Stafford, if you know here.
And we were saying, yeah, the Packers, obviously, same fan base, whatever he goes.
You know what's great about Green Bay is they're just great fans.
They just root their team on.
And it's not like you feel like you're going to get killed by the opposite side.
Like they don't want you to win, but they're just really.
rooting for their team.
Yes.
And it's like contagious and it's like a great vibe and they're just cheering and it's loud.
And is it like hard to play?
Yeah, it is because they're so loud.
But it's like, I don't know how I was to say it.
It is like just a good vibe, dude.
Tonight I think will be the last night in my life I will ever enjoy watching the local news.
You like the local news?
I've never, no, I hate the local news.
No, but today you did.
Dude, because the local, let me reenact the local news tonight.
All right, we're going to go out to Jane in the field.
Jane's at the tailgate.
Hey, yeah, my name is Marco, and my grandpa was one of the biggest brewer fans there ever was,
and he said there'd never be a day where I'd get to see them in the World Series
because he didn't get to see them in the World Series.
And now I'm here with 12 of my best.
Well, I guess it's 13 now if this guy's going to be joining the Tailgate,
and I just hope our Brewers take it home tonight.
and I hope we get to parade in a couple weeks.
Thank you so much there.
It was just very nice.
They love their team.
They do, and they should.
And tomorrow we're going in the tailgate section.
Oh, boy.
I thought we would bring some brots, and you said, bad idea.
I think we should bring brots, and I still think it's...
I think maybe we should bring, like, some beer.
They have the brats, bro.
I think they have everything if they're going to the tailgate.
Nice ball of red.
See, I think that exposed.
We have losers from California.
Trev reading the wine menu tonight.
That'll be in the E-60 years from now.
What did you keep saying?
I have investment there or I have...
Allocations.
Allocations.
With a couple of them.
Me and my silver stock.
Thank you guys so much.
We'll be coming live from the stadium tomorrow.
Again, shout out Rob Chiracco,
who's dealing with a ton of technology on the road.
Don't feelie who's feeding us all our information.
Jesus.
Shout me out.
Dinosaur?
Yeah.
It's a little bit of that.
Sharps are older than the North Star.
That's frustrating.
That's frustrating.
They really are.
The North Star.
Not like since we've known as a North Star, like the North Star.
Inception.
They were just under the asteroid.
