Hello and welcome to talking baseball. It's time. The All-JM team through the month of July. It's going to be hot. Judge John Boy. Pedro Martinez. Oh, God, I gosh. Oh, Iggy.

Yeah, I mean, not as a real security guard, but as the security guard that hears everyone's cases and lets out a couple grunts and groans as it goes, and then Judge Jimmy turns to him. I'll be executive producer, fine. Maybe it's, like, switched, and, like, Jimmy plays a male judge, and Joe's plays a, female security guard. Anyways, let's get into the all-JM team.

This is the most important award in the sport, so we take it seriously. Going back through the history of it, you know, all-star games, sometimes deceptive. You know, you could have a first couple good months, and that could get you in, that we try to put together the best team by month and then through those months. So through April, you get the best player through April, through May, the best player through April, May. We are through July. So we have a couple people trying to go pull to pole, as they say,

as the best player at their position in their division. And we have a couple that may lose that title. We have six guys that have been the best or have been on the team each month from start to finish. There's some Shohei Schwaber stuff on the NLDH. And then we have a fan vote that if you haven't participated in, please do that afterwards. Let's get into it. It's time to decide the all-JM team.

month bopping in the second month, but then he got caught by Dylan Dingler, who, I believe is the lead pole position going into this. Langalears is on the IL, but still has some impressive numbers. Samuel Bessio sneaking on this list, also on the AL, but good to see Big Sam. And then how about the alarm clock? Carter Jensen is showing up. Trev, I did go Dylan Dingler. He's clearing in war. He's clearing in a lot of the counting stats. Are you seeing the board differently. We got to stop with Carter Jensen and the alarm. That's a fun nickname.

That's how they used to give nicknames. That's a good 1960s nickname. It's more like a UFC fighter's nickname. Like ring, ring your bell, alarm clock. I also have Dylan Dingler. Snaps. One of if not the best defensive catchers in the game, putting up an incredible offensive season.

He's a dream. I mean, that's, yeah, you want him on your team. And where would the Tigers be without Dylan Dingler? And where are the Tigers going? Because you tigers have a path not only to the postseason. They might have a path to a buy in the first round of the playoffs if they can get hot for this final month and a half or so. Congrats to Dylan Dingler, who is now the winner of June and July on the All-JM team.

I'm getting hit by pitches, Dylan Dingler. No, he loves it. Eat them up. We need you. Eat them up. Eat them up. As we move to first base, Coach Trev, Ben Rice, breakout season. He's been fantastic for the Yanks.

He had it in April and May, but then Kurtz, comma, Nick started rolling into June, which leaves us in July with a grabback. Kurtz, comma, Nick is fighting for the throne. Ben Rice still there fighting for the throne. Munitaka Murakami, Peter Alonzo, Yep. And Wilson Contreras, five names on the list. No Jonathan, Aranda, Christian Walker, the ALE first base is bringing it. Where do you go, Trev? This was tough because I do have respect for your guy, Senior Aros, no doubt about that.

Sometimes when you got to make tough decisions, I just go to what is he meant to the team. We may have gone the same way. which by the way Ben Rice meant a ton to the Yankees a ton to the Yankees but this turnaround by the Red Sox does not happen without my man

Wilson Contreras and you can talk about some of the stuff that he does do you like him standing on top of the plate or not I kind of have flipped back and forth on that to be honest sometimes I'm like hell yeah man like go take one for the team get on base to whatever you can and sometimes I'm like dude that's really annoying

if you're a pitcher and he gets upset about getting hit he's on the plate there is that um overall slash line through um july wilson churis hasn't beat yeah talk about that power and the slug uh all these homers but only a 22 point difference in slug so i went with my guy wilson and treas not like an elite defender but an average defender at first base right and i think that's kind of what also got me off uh ben rice was not being or not rating out well. Sometimes again, yeah, these first base defensive metrics aren't going to tell the whole story. But I end up going with Wilson Contreras. Trev, I also went with Wilson Contreras. Inya, Benny Boy was in the argument. So is Kurtz.

I don't know how much the injury is getting in our head. All these guys were pretty close. Wilson Contreras, the splits are very impressive as well. Ben is solid. For me, it came down to two things. One, Ben Rice is deaching a lot. They've almost taken him off of first base between Luis Garcia and Paul Goldschmidt. And even when it was just... He's not on the team, is he?

It's July. Where we're thinking he might be. It's cool. I've got a little bit of insight. The reliever. I'm talking about the relief pitcher. I think he might make a nice over-the-head catch. He could see that coming up.

That, yeah. And Trev, I had a couple of these that, again, we're at that time of the year. What do you mean for the team? And not to be two shots fired at Benny Boy with the Yanks offense kind of going down the tubes right now. He was also a part of that where what Wilson has meant to the Red Sox and where they are now a part of this season and going forward. I thought it deserved the nod. And like you mentioned at the end, like there are no, he's got a higher OPS. He's got a higher OPS plus.

Like there's other data in there. This isn't just like, socks kid. Like, no, he's been awesome. And congratulations to him joining the all-JM team. Beauty. Second base. This has been a beautiful disaster all year. Young Cole Young, who won it in April.

Zeke Duran took it in May and June that now leaves us with a hodgepodge. He's not even listed. Lost eligibility, says Dalton Feeley. It's tough because, yeah, he was playing some more short stuff. He's eager out. It's the same thing I'm going to get into with my guy, Cody Clemens. No spoiler alert.

Yeah, Cody Clemens listed. Ernie Clement List. Cody Clemens with 33 games at second base. I don't know. Chase Midroth, slapping it around and getting on base. And Young Cole Young is back with a comment. combination of defense and all around. Trev, what do you have?

Literally love all of these guys. Maybe I have an affinity for second baseman because they're so unassuming but so important. That position, do you know what I mean? Yeah. Cody Clemens has been, you talk about what do you mean to a team? He's been so good for the Twins, but he has been playing all over the place. So like not his fault.

The Twins just can't run the same defensive alignment out there two games in a row to save their freaking life. He's actually now playing more second base. Royce Lewis first, Cody Clemens second. Then they're kind of swapping that. Sometimes depending on the starting pitcher, they change righty lefties. So he's kind of out by default for me. But he has been our best defensive player as well.

Ernie Clement, love you. You know I love Chase Middra, but I have a new love for Cole Young. This guy, he got your heart. The way he plays the game, what he has meant to Seattle, I think, you know, the numbers, if you look, I really went between Midroth and Cole Young here. Their numbers are very, very similar. 733 OPS for Cole Young, 739 for Chase Midroth. It's just, it's a different type of look for me. I think Cole Young kind of does everything right. I think he is a guy that can disrupt you. on the base pass, not really talking about stolen bases, but the way he runs the bases, I like. He's got more homers and more runs driven in than Chase Midroth. There wasn't a lot separating these two. I ended up going with Cole Young because I just recently had, I guess, a love affair with him and kind of just the way he plays.

So kind of a toss-up for me, I'm hoping that you went Chase so we can get our Honorable Judge John Boyan for this one, because it was tough for me. Well, I have good news for you. We'll see the judge, not my captain. Well, in a way, my captain. Oh, captain, my captain. I went with Chase Midroth. This was splitting hairs.

As I looked at these candidates, Cody Clemens, not a second basement. So for me, that ruled him out. That Ernie, Chase, and Cole, it was kind of like, what can I hang my hat on? or what's like a tool? And for me, the thing that jumped off the screen, Chase Midroth getting on base at a 3.46 clip. Like all these other guys are getting on base under 320. Ernie Clement obviously has the contact tool.

Cole Young has a little bit of an all-around game, but I was kind of like, as I look at these guys, what can I look at that's... I mean, I don't even want to say elite tool, but if I put you on the team, what can you tell me you're going to do? And I think Cole Young, you say, hey, it's going to play some defense and do a little bit of everything. If Chase Midrass on my team, he's going to get on base.

So I did go with Chase Midroth. I know. This is tough for you, Trekk. I'm actually hoping that maybe Chase wins this because he's got the results. Another thing that Cole has, like, he has the expected stats under the hoods a little bit better. I love watching Chase Midroth play. So I don't know. Hopefully, this was a tough one.

I don't care which way. Jimmy goes, to be honest with you. To the judge. With that, let's go to Judge John Boy, our first deciding vote. It's AL second base. It is Treves Cole Young. Young Cole Young versus Treves. And now my chase my drop.

Judge John Boy. What do they say to the judge? Your honor. Your honor. May the peace be with you. Your honor. You're honor. Here I am.

Well, a reminder to those at home. I trust that you two have looked at all the regular stats and that they are equally graded out there. I look at tie-breaking stats. I look at stats that I like to see on the margins, who's better? The stats that I'm using, I wouldn't say tell the story in full. So, because I kind of invented a lot of these stats. We've got empty game rate. How many games do they just provide nothing? No sack flies, no hits, no stolen bait, just didn't even show. up, could have not had a bat, how many games, the percentage of games played where they did not look at anything.

I like looking at Sistler stat, which is a combination of base running and hitting when runners are in scoring position, moving base runners over, stealing, slug, a combination of all three. I do like K percent and walk percent, so I do put that on mine sheet. And then a big one is OPS versus left-handed pitches, OPS versus right-hand pitchers, and then your difference because if you can be pitched to, if they can bring in that reliever and totally neutralize you and the other guy can't be neutralized,

that's a huge, that's actually maybe one of the bigger ones I like looking at because I do think that the other manager wants the guy that can't do that. Okay. Doesn't that mean lefties are usually going to be screwed in this debate? Well, sometimes the tie guys are the same, some guy, sometimes the people, sometimes the two players are the same handedness.

Yeah. Cole Young and Chase Midroth. Are they the same handedness? They're not. Well, it doesn't even come into play really for them. Anyway. Okay. Well, between these two,

Chase has a better empty game rate. A lot of the other stats are pretty close. He's got a better walk percentage. It's not that much. He does have the highest OPS versus left-handed pitchers. He's got an 851. which is much higher than Cole Young's highest. Cole Young versus lefties, 648.

That's kind of what Trev is saying. Their lefties versus lefties get the harder beat on that. But I am going with Chase my draw. Even though in the four times I've seen him play against Yankees, he's had just bizarre tags. So I'm interested in that. White Sox fans told me that's not something they've ever noticed. But he wins my tiebreaker.

Do you say bizarre calves? Tags. Oh, that. Like the ball is there. The runner is there to be tagged. And he gets his ass like stuck and then like has an awkward reach. But white stock fans told me that they don't must just have happened three times in the six games against the Yankees. And I'm honing in on it.

Congrats to C.M. Congratulations. So maybe now Treves again, Chase Midroth. Well, you know, you guys like players that look high all the time. Cody Ballinger, Chase Midroth. He looks like Mike from our social team. So there you go. Shout out, Mike.

Congrats. All right. Then it's on to shortstop. We go. Here's Zeke Duran showing up again. Okay. Nice to see a young friend. Our previous shortstop.

It was Kevin McGonagall out in April, just setting the world on fire. Bobby Witt, Jr., came back with vengeance. It's kind of been a two-horse race between these two. Bobby Witt, Jr., had it again in June. That leaves those two, Tienoff. Jeremy Payne, we're a little short on games. 63, that's not going to get you there.

Again, Zeke Duran has showed up, but Trev, I think it's between McGonigal and Witt. Where do you go? I hate it, coach. I thought this was the toughest one. I hate it. I did. Bobby Witt is effectively right now

a top four baseball player in the league, no matter kind of how you cut it. I'm putting Judge in there, even though he hasn't played really this year. Otani, Judge, PCA, and Bobby Witt, right? Would that be your top four right now as far as position players go? I can't even think about that. It's insane.

I know. I'm thinking about chasing my drawth, but yes, something like that. Do you love me some chase? I didn't say highest players in the league. Oh, okay. Shots fired. We have no idea if he does that. University of San Diego.

Yeah, okay, so now we do know. We do now. I'm going with the guy that has the better overall slash line. Oh. Higher weighted runs created plus. Doesn't grade out defensively the way Bobby Witt does.

I'm going with Kevin McGonigle, dude. And you know what? One of my, what am I looking for? Tiebreakers, I guess, when the guys are close, is walk to strikeout ratio. He's one of the only guys in all the big leagues has more walks than strikeouts. 67 walks to 66 strikeouts.

So this is very close, people. I love me some Bobby Witt Jr. But when I see that and I see the overall slash line, in his favor, 389 on base percentage for a freaking rookie. I'm going with my guy, Kevin McGonicle. He's also playing on a team

that's pushing back. I don't know where you went because this was a tough one for me. Well, I'm hoping Bobby Whit Jr. ends up in the fan vote because this was split in the Adam. I did go McGonigal.

And Trev, I alluded, I think it was before the show I alluded this to you that, you know, we've kind of had a running rule of like if you're, if you're neck and neck,

neck you maintain and hold the position. This was actually the first time I was kind of like, you know what? Bobby's had it for two months and I don't know if he's got him beat that I was like, I think McGonigal deserves the nod. So I also went with McGonigal. Can I tell you something? First of all, I'm scared of what people are going to say. Good.

Second of all, you know, Bobby Witt's got the 32 swipes to McGonagle's 11. Yeah. If you go to the savant page and you go to base running value, oh, they're the same. Oh. 96 percentile for McGonigal, 98th percentile for Bobby. Like, they are great base runners. Great.

So, like, you, I think a lot of people will point to that. But overall, we're talking here, and, you know, if you like it or not, it is, that's on you. That's kind of also where I was like, all right, if he's actually doing. this and keeping up with Bobby in that regard. He's not going to ever do it with the glove because Bobby is, you know, one of the best. But yeah, I think I think we got this one right. I think so too, Trev.

When you and I line up, that's usually a decent sign. Or the worst sign. Bobby Whit Jr. has 20 outs above average right now. He's good. I got no qualms of Bobby. I hope he ends up in the fan vote. Treves reconsidering. It's too late.

Don't watch this episode, Bobby. Don't you here. Turn it off. The balletsman cat. He wants to be better. He wants to be better. Congrats to Kevin McGonigal, our shortstop. At third base, normally a Jose Ramirez erasure position, and it was in April. But then he got banged up, and Miguel Vargas stepped up to the table for the White Sox.

He sure did, as he had it in May and June, as we get to July. he is still there. A.L. man, this third base position, Trev, you're a former A.L. third baseman. Isok Paredes showing up. Okamoto has been there all year. Josh Young slapping it around. And junior Camanero

with some special power numbers. You're the expert on this position, Trev. I am the expert at this position. There's no doubt about it. My choices were between junior Caminero and Miguel Vargas. Honestly, pretty similar statistics. If we're going through offense,

the clear home run lead for Junior Camerrano through July 30 there, 23 for Miguel Vargas, so nothing to sneeze at, if you will. RBIs are about the same 66 to 64 in Camerro's favor. Honestly, the walk-to-strikeout ratio is also very close, 60 to 86, for junior 60 to 81 for Miguel. If Miguel Vargas was a good defender by any metrics, I probably would have went him. But when it's offense versus offense, which is what this is, it's junior Caminero. I landed on the same.

I mean, again, kind of what I said with the second base position, like looking at what do you bank on? Because it came down to these two guys for me. The other guys are having nice seasons. but I think it's Caminero versus Vargas. Caminero 282, Vargas 240. So you got a guy who's a plus contact hitter there and a guy who's league average contact hitter. On base percentage.

Caminero, 373. That's elite. Vargas, 346. That's good. That's good. Slugging. 549 is elite elite. 480 for Vargas is very good.

But Caminero, if it's coming down to the offense, which I also believe it is. I think Caminero ends up running a little bit of a lap around him. A 921 OPS. At the end of July, he had 30 home runs. And Vargas, a lot of it is close, but it is one of those you start zooming in in almost every offensive number.

Camerro does have them by more than enough. snaps. He was a Cleveland Guardian. I always tell Chris Rose that people forget. Oh, and by the way, as we're talking about, you know, like, oh, Wilson and Treyrhus and the Red Sox, a Dingler and McGonigal for Detroit, like, the rays are the best team.

The rays are the best team. Yeah. I think Milwaukee has them by percentage point, but. Oh, I'm talking about one league. Oh. Yeah, the big bro. The crappy league. The big bro.

The American League, yes. American League outfield. Now, Trev, you. you're an American League third basement, I'm American League outfielder. And it's per usual, it's all over the board because we need a center fielder. That'd be more as a bullpen catcher, but whatever.

Oh, that's Jimmy. I don't have the knees for that. Aaron Judge was around for the first two months, and then he wasn't. He got hurt. Mike Trout has been there the first three months in center field. That could be up as he's chasing a daisy. And then it was Buckdadi to belly to belly.

and then Buckdady showed up again as Judge dropped out in June. Trev, center field, and then run me through your outfield. For my center fielder here, look, I love me some Byron Buxton. If I'm choosing, like, everyone healthy, doing their thing, he's the best of this group on our sheet. He truly is. I don't think people give him enough credit for what he does on a day-in-day-out basis. He's been banged up. He's had a hip thing.

So some of the game totals aren't there for me, and that usually is a disqualifier almost off the bat, and it proved true again for me here. So for my center field, I went, Rafael in Boston. He's an all-world defender. His bat has been picking up a ton.

We know what the Red Sox have been doing as of late, right back into the playoffs. I mean, I believe their playoff percentage now is in the 90s. to make the playoffs. They have completely turned their season around. If you don't know that, it's insane. I don't know why you're listening to this show, but they're great.

So I went with, say down, Rafael, for my center fielder. You? Snaps. Yeah, okay. Snaps, I mean, a little bit of Boston here, a little bit of what do you want from your center fielder? Do you want all-world defense? And yeah, you laid it out with Buxton.

It's 82 games to 105. Rafael, it feels like he's taking a leap at the plate. There's steals there. There's power. He's a guy I don't want to see at the plate, which I don't know if you can quantify that. I mean, a lot of these guys, you can say that. But that guy, I don't know.

There's something different about him. It feels like the light bulb has gone off. And congrats, because, yeah, I think it's him or Buck, and I think he's got him beat at this point. So, Raphael in center. Where do you go in the corners? or it could be another center fielder. Yeah, it can be.

I think another one to me where I was like, this seems like a no-brainer for us, is Randy a Rose Arena, what he's doing out there in Seattle. Highest weight of runs created plus of any of these guys on the sheet. So I think that speaks volumes. He also swipes a ton of bags. He's got six straight years of 20 plus steals.

Had 20 through July already. The one thing you could knock him on is his, his arm. People will run on Randy a Roserena. But I think overall we're talking about I think he's putting him together maybe one of the better all around seasons of these outfielders

that are listed here. So I went with Randy at Roserana. I forgot you're an arm guy now in the outfield. It's kind of been my new thing. I'll send you some picks. I also went with Randy. Yeah, everything you said. It's snaps.

It's again, it's, you and I, there's been a couple talking baseball episodes recently where we were like, wait, do you know what Randy's doing this here? Because he's, he's doing it. And I mean, you can almost spin this in a nasty way. Like,

where would Seattle be without him? What was I just going to say? You know, the stolen bases, too, like I don't feel like they're empty stolen bases. And Seattle fans correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm sure you will. I feel like he,

like, picks his spots and, like, and goes, and they're always usually impactful. Nailer, who steals a bunch of bags there too. I don't even want to say. Great base runner.

Josh, that's crazy the amount of swipes he has for a body type that he has. Sprint speed is not necessarily there is what I'm trying to say, but he is a smart base runner. So I don't know. Whatever they're doing out there in Seattle,

well, don't keep doing it because your team kind of stinks. Changing, even though I keep thinking there should be a good team. They're not. Base running-wise, keep doing what you're doing. If it were to be the middle, of August. I mean, they might be on a L5 losing streak, but, um, I honestly can't believe it.

Who's your final outfielder in the A? Because this, this is messy. We're, I'm, I'm smelling the judge. Yeah, I mean, there's so many guys to go up against, if this was through, um, where we're at now filming this episode, my guy, Jack Keglio might be on there. Oh, but ain't, but it ain't, it ain't, Jack. Just ain't. So maybe in August, it might be your time. I went with the guy, this is controversial. Like Mike Trout, some of the games played are not there. He came back for his birthday,

which is nice. Nice. I went with Riley Green of the Detroit Tigers. Big time. He's played the most games. You know, the stats are there as well.

A lot of these guys at the end, stats kind of were around the same. Again, way to runs created plus is a nice snapshot of like what what does a guy mean uh mike trout has him in that bairn bison has been that uh but both those guys have been injured he's been playing every single day uh and he has the highest way to runch grade plus after that so i went with riley green again sometimes you just got to pick something and go with it um so that that's my third outfieler no one ran away with this

one yeah and that was the biggest thing that i was i was looking around at riley green i was looking around at wheelier, war-wise, which he is a defensive, you know, stalwart for Boston, that, yeah, man, going around, I'm looking at De Lauder, I'm looking at Caglione, that, even my guy, Belly, who went on the I-L, but he's all around. So you're not, I thought you were going, belly, for sure. Because he was up there for me. This is going to sting you a little bit, and I hope the judge doesn't sting you. I went Buxton.

I know the games aren't there, but the counting stats are so impressive to me. There's only one outfielder on this list with over 18 home runs. That's Buxton with 25. That's insane, by the way. Where are my power hidden out? Right? What happened to the Big Brother League I loved?

E. That I went with Buxton. I know it's a little controversial. He's about 20 games short of a lot of these guys. but what he has done in those 20 games, keeping the twins alive. I went with Buck Daddy. I could see it being controversial.

It all goes in the blunder. It's with the counting stats. Like, if you're counting stats catch up in limited games, I think it's an open conversation. Although being healthy and there the full

time is helps, is nice. Yeah, I mean, I weigh that pretty heavily. If I, see a game a game log that is significantly less. I think that means something. I understand Jake's point about the counting stats. And if you produce at such higher rate, that that means something. But I think that I'll take guys out of the discussion completely, kind of what happened with Buxton here for me,

just because he hasn't played as many games. He's been off the field. Yeah, that's how I feel about it. So I really didn't get past that one and into my differentiators there. Riley Green's been healthy the whole year. Now Travis Buxton one injury? Has it been multiple injuries? Like one big injury?

It's been a couple, but mostly it's been his hip. I think I'm going to go Riley Green because it's a hundred and thirty more at bat. You're helping the team by being healthy far more. And the other numbers are similar. So I'm going Riley Green here. That's too big a difference for a judge. I don't think you love Buxton. No, I don't think you can say that.

aspect to it he does strike out a ton um it's been it's been interesting i was really between gabriel moreno and drake baldwin i ended up going with drake baldwin overall stats I just liked a little bit better I think he is a more well-rounded catcher I could hear arguments all day between those two people I think if I had to choose those are my two guys I'm very curious to see where you went I think Drake Baldwin's meant so much to Atlanta love the homers from him 20 homers is nothing to sneeze at especially from the catcher's position I like he does with ABS. That's been another thing of mine this season. So I ended up going with Drake Baldwin because I felt like he was the most all-encompassing pick here for my guy behind

the plate. Wow. Okay. I mean, I'm kind of regretting looking at Gabby's 308, 391 on base. Holy smokes. I stayed with the power. Hunter Goodman's 31 homers. I thought you for sure were going Gabby. I just think that's a different area code, pop. I think that's a special season. I know there's some strikeouts. I know there's some strikeouts. I know there's cores. A lot of strikeouts, coach.

But that many homers from a catcher, I thought, you know, I thought Cal Raleigh should have won MVP last year, which means to kick off the National League, we are going back to Judge John Boy with the catcher position. And it's coming down to Drake Baldwin v. Hunter. Goodman, this is, this one's a doozy. I like it. It is. It is a doozy. Now, there are some significant differences in the stats I look at as tiebreaker. So Drake Baldwin has an empty game rate of 16%. That's going to be on the lower side and like a good, good for players. Hunter Goodman, 27. 30 is about the highest you'll see where a third of their games, they don't do anything.

Hunter Goodman's up there. If you look at the production stat, uh, Drake Baldwin, Baldwin, has him there. He strikes out less. He walks more. I kind of stopped looking after that. And Drake Baldwin is my winner. Now, I didn't look at defensive stats because especially at the catching position, I don't really trust him or know what to value anymore. Can I run a snaps for Jake Baldwin? Yeah. I'm trusting that you guys wanted to put a dead defensive catcher in there. Can I run my new theory on ABS challenges to you guys? Absolutely. Who gives a shit how many you lose if it's not the second one that ends it?

If you lose the first challenge, who cares? It should really only be about how many that you change and you flip. So are you saying second challenge percentage should matter more? I think challenge, challenge, challenge. It doesn't matter to me if your percentage is 50% and somebody else has 70%, but your flips are much higher because you challenge more. I think that's the stat we should be looking at. That's what we should be giving people credit for is how many did you flip?

Now, sometimes you can look at, hey, you wasted the second challenge on a bad one, and now we have none left. But if it's the first challenge, go and let's just count how many that you flip. I think that's the most important thing as a catcher. I'm trying to figure out how we're going to quantify this. In my mind, that makes sense. How many did you get right? Which means you need to challenge a lot.

I don't care about your percentage. If you're too gun-shy about challenging and you only challenge the ones that are obvious, get out of here. Be aggressive with it, especially with the first challenge. And I want to see how many you get. Like Wilson, Williams Contreras challenges a ton. his percentage isn't great, but he's flipped more counts than anybody in the league. Well, if you look at Tyler Stevenson, he challenges a ton and his percentage is great.

The best case scenario. But, like, I'm just saying, like, I wouldn't even look at percentage anymore. I also like the K flip, like, are you channel? Like, last pitch of the at bat, if you're saving it for there. Like, Shay Langleyers has flipped the most into a strikeout. So he's getting that strike three call. or eliminating a walk also Shay Langleyers. So just by he leads in those two categories,

which tells me he's using them wisely. Yeah, I love that. I love that too. Like when you use them, I get it. I think I'm just, give me the volume too. Like don't, you should never end a game with challenges. No. But what happens is if you are,

people are challenging like ones that are hurting them. At the end of the game, just flippantly challenging. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Congrats. Congrats to Drake Baldwin, your National League catcher. Wow. There could be a fan vote situation.

Yeah. There could be a fan vote situation. Yeah, I mean, I think we might owe you an apology. I don't know. I might give him my fan vote. First base, this is another bloodbath. As we've gone along this season, it's been Matt Olson.

From start to finish, he is chasing the daisy. And joining him at the party, Jake Bowers snaps for him for showing up. My goodness. Luis Garcia, Jr., if you like some slug, I hope he gets traded to my team. Bryce Harper, always, Freddie Freeman, always coach Trev. I ended up going with Freddie Freeman here. I think this was, to me, a two-horse race between him and Matt Olson, Matt Olson, has been the selection the last two months.

I believe Freddie had it the first month. Am I wrong about that? No, it's been Olson. It's been Olson the entire time. Oh, gosh. Well, usually we say you've got to knock the guy off. I don't know if Freddy's actually done that. I end up going Freddie Freeman.

A hundredth of a point, or is that a thousandth of a point, higher in OPS for Freddie Freeman through July 870 to 869? The weighted runs created plus is in Freddie's favor, 140 to 134. I like a batting average. It starts with a three. I just do people kill me for that. Higher on base percentage. What Matt Olson has in Slug, again, Freddie makes up for in his all-around offensive game.

They both play a very nice defensive first base. Stolen bases are kind of nil. Freddie 5. Matt Olson, too. I don't think that really matters at the first base position. but I end up going Freddie, and I'm not too sure. This was another tough one. Tight.

I stayed with Olson. I just think the power numbers and some of the counting sets are significant enough. 29 homers to 15, 75 runs to 56, 67, RBI to 54. With that big old slug that, speaking of big slugs. Judge Johnboy, National League first base. It's a tale as old as time, as old as this show has existed, basically. Matt Olson versus Freddie Freeman. This is the toughest one on the docket today, just to let you know.

And they're very close in a lot of stats. You're a fine, judge. I just want to say that. Thank you. Freddie Freeman strikes out less than Matt Olson. Yep. He kind of comes with their games where Freddie isn't hunting slug. and Olson and his spot in the lineup is hunting slug.

Freddy's always been more about the single and the double and the gap shot. So it doesn't bother me that much because I don't hold that against Olson that much because I don't think that's his role on the team. And Freddie on the team he is and who the player he is is always, that's a tradeoff slug for K percentage. I do like the splits. Now, both of these guys are lefties, Trev. And Freddie Freeman, a manager is going to be more excited this year to bring in a lefty.

versus him, unless you're Boone in the World Series. 727 OPS for Freddie Freeman. I will say that's still above average and good. But Matt Olson is split-proof. He's got 835 OPS versus lefties and 895 against righties. So just the fact that he really is protecting a lot of other people in the lineup with the other manager's decision. and it's kind of like the manager has to think a little more. I'm giving it to Matt Olson.

He also grades out slightly better on the defensive metrics, but first base is another position that I don't know because they kind of do like defensive metrics. I don't know for sure how they do it, but it seems like they do defensive metrics at first base for defense on batted balls when I think that should be weighted way less than defense on throws from your teammates.

I'd rather that my first baseman make every other influence, fielder really good and be a little worse on balls hit to him than the opposite. And I don't know how they do those. Does that make sense? Like if you can go rangy first baseman, but you fucking, you can't pick it, I don't care about that that much. I want a guy that is going to pick every ball. In snaps from Matt Olson.

Look, again, no qualms here whatsoever. He continues his quest for a Silver Daisy. Agree with defense at first base. Guard the freaking line. and pick the ball. I don't need you to go in the forehole, dude. I don't need that. Like, I don't need you to be a second baseman.

I need you to guard the line and pick the throws. That's it. Congrats to Matt Olson. Congrats to Ty France, who's been rating out as the best defensive first baseman in the past couple years. So that's good for him. And Freddie's going to be okay too

Brandon Lau has gotten dog this year, because these guys kind of play a special level of defense that cooks a book. Louisa Rice and what he's done throughout.

Trev, I don't know if your snaps were earlier or later. One guy standing on his business a little more than these other guys. Look, there is a lot of competition here. No doubt about it, but I have a new favorite player in the big weeks. Sleep. Bryce Terrang is. the fucking man. I'm sorry, dude.

I've never seen a shortstop with range like his where I was fearful to have anybody hit the ball to the right side of second base, and even a little bit to the left side of second base. It's insane the plays he makes when he's up to bat. It is, you know, there's a little bit of strikeout stuff going on there, but he also has the offensive ability to change a game. he runs the bases the right way he is if you're talking about the perfect brewers player it's him

but also he's like america's starting second baseman he is i think he's the best second baseman in all the baseball right now he could be he could be up there with bobby whit junior when we're talking about short stops if he if the brewers put him there that's how much i think about bryce terrain so he's my pick No notes. The defense is special. The pop is special. He's got a little bit of that sneaky.

Like, wait, where'd that ball land? What he has turned into. And hey, the Brewers, as we mentioned, best teams. Like, he's, in a way, he's the guy. He's the guy. He's the guy. Sat down and talked to your Jake Bowers and my Christian Yelich about Bryce Terran. Like, this guy's, he is a dog.

And I need defense at shortstop. I stayed Odo. You know who doesn't get enough credit for being like a big dude? Who's that? Geraldo O'Donimo. Okay. Big guy. DR, you know?

No big deal. Yeah, this was a mess. I went CJ Abrams because of, I mean, dude, through, we just talked about Yorty and who's keeping him from the triple crown. It's this guy. Yeah. At the, at through July here, 83 runs driven in, 28 homers. He swipes bags as well as getting 19, well on his way to a 30-30 season from the shortstop position. Yes, the defense is not there.

I know that to me, 929. OPS from that position trumps almost everything should be playing third base or I don't know Nationals fans you tell me but the overall offensive profile for me was too much

to ignore here. 290 average too so it's not like he's all homers this wasn't a bad pickum it was just a weird pickum and there's only one man that can do it Jim gung Judge John A couple offensive threats from the shortstop position, C.J. Abrams versus Odo Lopez.

I mean, I am trusting that all the regular stats put these guys as neutral because the tiebreakers for these two guys are interesting because they're two different profiles. You're comparing each row and bonds here and two different skill sets. Now, that might not be the perfect example, so don't get hung up on the names I just said. but you understand what I'm saying. Yes, Your Honor. Otto Lopez, I really like what he's about. Neither of these guys walk. Both walk percentage under 10.

So that's Nolan void. And it's Odo, so the judge apologizes. Odo Lopez, his strikeout percentage is way less. He's more split-proof, 954 against left-handed pitches, 801 versus right-hand pitches. So he doesn't dip into the sevens. either side of his game.

Abrams has him on empty game rate, but not even by one full percentage. The defensive numbers are so different that I don't even think you could argue. And every defensive metric has C.J. Abrams as the worst. And Aladol Lopez as like above average, not the best, but not bad. Which I got to try.

trust that at least they're not going to botch it that bad when d rs and alzbo averger on the same side so you know if you have the lineup around him uh odo lopez gets my vote congrats congrats godo lopez which one of you chose who i had i had cj aribs and his overwhelming offensive stats there i mean what he's doing as a shortstop power wise runs driven in is crazy. I think he alone is keeping Yoran Alvarez from the Major League Triple Crown. He's leading in runs driven in. And that's later on.

We're not talking about all of that. But I don't know, man. I think it was a fun case study. And like, what do you want is your shortstop? Do his overall numbers offensively take over? Yes, the very, very poor defensive shortstop play. Yeah. I mean, I think, and for me, it was.

Odo's having a very strong offensive profile. Well, also, if I've got a shortstop, I need a shortstop. And I don't know if, I don't know if a contending team would have C.J. Abrams at shortstop. Gaville, bang. That's my job. Sorry. Sorry, Your Honor. Congratulations to Odo.

Lopez. I think that's our last ugly one. Maybe we'll see. Maybe we'll see going forward. Third base, I tell you what it won't be. We might be seeing some MFer get a daisy that you just don't. Max Muncie, April, May, June. I don't want to say he's running uncontested.

It's amazing. His stats compared to his peers, which is the whole concept of this. Max Muncie, of course, of course the best third baseman in the National League. The outfield position, Trev, again, center fields, and then we need some corners. Andy Pa has the first two months in center. We saw Corbyn Carroll, we've seen Michael Harris, we've seen Soto, we've seen Wood, we've seen Carol, we've seen Wood. Oh, and then that PCA guy, he started just taking over the world.

He's in center. I think he's going to stay. So let's get, I think two of these we're going to get out of the way. I'm pretty sure. PCA, yes. That's he. I don't even think we need to talk about him, what he's been able to do. Historically.

Historic. He's one of our really clear, good friends, you and Touloum with him, me, Halloween night. We have different experiences, but very, good experiences. And on pace for 10 war, which did Trump, I think, those happenings. I think Swilly posted his stats next to a young Mike Trout. And I think your guy Evan Longoria commented on our Instagram. He's too big for his own good. But it's like he's still figuring out his body because he's still young. But he's an animal. And I, yeah, I think he's, to me, was a no-brainer on this. He's already got 30 homers. he'll probably track through July 17 swipes. Does he make it to 30-30? I bet he wants to.

He's on the IEL. I don't know. We'll see. Yeah, you know, if you want 30-30, you go get 30. Yeah, that's true. You can, you can. You've seen people do it. If you're okay with a couple caught stealings in September, maybe you can.

And they're trending the wrong way as a team. So it hits a free-for-all. So snaps the PCA into James Wood. This one, it came down to two guys. me the rest of the way it was Corbyn Carroll or Andy Paez. Some of their offensive numbers, I mean, most of them are very, very similar for Andy Paa has 796 OPS through 818 for Corbyn. The slug is around the same. Everything's right around the same for them offensively. You're talking about stolen bases. Corbyn's got him a little bit. I know Corbyn Carroll is a good

defender, but I love watching Andy Paez play, a center field for the Dodgers. Best arm, you know, I think best arm talent in the outfield. And that's kind of, you know, I've talked about that. Like, I like that this year. So I've seen him make some incredible plays. And yeah, I went Andy Paez. And in a really tough decision for me. I'm curious to see where you go.

Yeah. Shout out Jake McCarthy. I always say a Suzuki in Jordan. Walker. But for me, it's Corbyn Carroll. I think sometimes he's so steady that we get over it, although I know he was in a little bit of a funk. The extra base hits are elite. Obviously, the speed is elite. He's figured out defense. That, yeah, as I looked at these two player pages, I do think it came down to him in Pahas, which I normally try to give a little more love to the center fielder, but I went with Corbyn Carroll and a little bit of what he's meant to the

Snake's franchise in general, a playoff team if I was in the future of the National League. So what I think is going to be the last time, Judge John Boy. So now it's Judge Johnboy and it's the National League outfield and it comes down to a couple NL West monsters. Andy Pahez versus Corbyn Carol. It's a tricky one. This one, and again, I don't know

the actual stats and slash lines, but all of the tiebreakers I use are basically tied. You're talking empty game rate is less than 1%. The Cistler production is 2% or is 0.02% or whatever. I mean, they're K%. is 20 for Pahas and 23 for Corbyn Carroll.

That's not that much different at all. The walk percentage is split by 4% with Corbin Carroll at 12 and Pahas at 8. So what I look at here, Trev, is the splits and you have a righty and a lefty. But Corbyn Carroll is absolutely mashing lefties. It's a one dot OPS against lefties. So that's a manager's nightmare, dude. You put Corbin Carroll in the middle of, of a righty lineup,

we got righties before him and after him. You could, that's what you would have to do to protect him or whatever, but you don't have to do with that now. Like you could put a lefty and a lefty or whatever. You don't have to, if you're to Lavello, you don't have to worry about that because if they bring in their lefty,

Corby and Carroll's been handling them, which allows him to stack lefties or do a lot with the lineup, especially up top. So Corbyn Carroll is my decision. This was it tough. one. This was a tough one. Outfield is always tough, especially right now the National League. I love watching Andy Pawhas

play defense. I also love watching Corby and Carroll play defense. I love watching an outfield arm. That's been my new thing this year, Jim is. I need guys that freaking hammer the ball and there's nobody better in the big leagues than Andy Paas. Makes sense. Yeah,

I mean, this came down. I don't care if anyone's upset because that came down to, you know, like my fifth tiebreaker, basically. That was the final two. I was I was between. And he's going to be the reason that we have a strike next year because he caught that ball by Ernie Clement. That's what I'm all about.
