Starting point is 00:00:01 Hello and welcome to talking baseball. Might be our first sweep week of the year. A lot of teams put out some big performances. Might be a lot of birds talk to this F, Trev. Let's talk some baseball. Orioles, yep. J's, yep. Cardinals, yep.
Starting point is 00:00:22 Hello and welcome to talking baseball presented to you by Seatheek, Trev. The Geeks of Seats, man. They have the number of. one rated ticketing app go to one of their 70,000 events, go to a baseball game, go see Trevor Plouf on the sideline, go see Trevor Plouf in the booth, go see me walking around the stands, just hoping, oh, did you, oh, you recognize me? Yeah, I'll take a picture. Um, Code talking, $20 off your first purchase at Seat Geek, $20 off your first purchase with Code Talking. Download the app. Green bubble, good.
Starting point is 00:01:07 Go get those seats with Seat Geek R presenting sponsor. Trevor Plouffe, the hardest working man in baseball, in sports. In America. In America? And I don't know, maybe going back to the beginning of time since Adam and Eve. We'll talk about that a little bit this episode. We might get there today. Spoiler.
Starting point is 00:01:30 How you doing, Trev? I'm doing well. I have been working hard this last week. It's been a lot. But all good stuff. I mean, look, what do I like to do? Talk ball. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:43 And that's what I got to do. It was fun, man. I had a great week. Started in the dugout, made it to the booth. They're not going to get me out of the booth now. You let me in. Yeah. You ain't getting me out.
Starting point is 00:01:55 But it was good. You know, like, I've been prepped to talk about the game of baseball so well. by this show and baseball today that when you get on the mic and you're just seeing what's happening in front of you, I'm not going to lie, it kind of seemed like pretty easy. It's light work. I don't want to like, I don't know, what's the word I'm looking for here? Okay. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:02:27 It doesn't matter. It was fun. I had a great time. I'm excited to talk ball with you though and Bieber's because we're into origin stories. today. Wow. And my origin story as a talker about ball this year. Wow. It's going to be a heavy up. It's going to be a heavy up people. We, uh, behind the scenes, uh, about 10 minute delayed recording as we were looking up like the origins of life. So, uh, we're going to end up in some deep, weird parts today. Some teams are reinventing.
Starting point is 00:03:05 their seasons. A couple teams, man. What is we doing, baby? It's getting to be that time of year. Memorial Day weekend coming up next weekend. That feels like one of the checkpoints of the season because, you know, the boys of summer and summer's not even here yet, Treff. So that's where, you know. It doesn't make any sense to me.
Starting point is 00:03:27 The Mets. Springtime's done. Get out of here. Mets have changed their tune a little bit. A few teams have. Oscar Mercado. Are you? Yeah, how about that?
Starting point is 00:03:37 An original TB guy guy puts on a performance. Should we get into it? Ian Kramer? Huh. It's a big Baltimore episode. And Trev, you know what else it is? Talk to me. It's a big farmer's dog episode, Trev.
Starting point is 00:04:01 New partner of the program, and they, just with us with our. code names tournament that's coming out. Make sure you're checking that out. Whether you've got a puppy, an older dog, or somewhere in the middle, the farmer's dog can help keep them healthy, more quality years with your pooch. We, noodle got hooked up with the goods. And Trev, that's what I really like about this, is that they specialize it for your dog.
Starting point is 00:04:30 There's so many dog breeds out there, going back to the history of, like, animals and stuff. I'm about how many dogs there are now. You know, my golden doodle. They got created just a couple moons ago. Now there's all sorts of doodles. Noodle eats it and he turns into like a crazed animal. Like no one you see an animal that's like kind of not in control. It's like a reminder that you're an animal.
Starting point is 00:04:54 Like noodle scarfs this stuff down. So if you're looking to treat your doggo, do it with the farmer's dog. dog, it's always the right time to invest in your dog's help, and get 50% off your first box at the farmersdog.com slash johnboy. Farmersdog.com slash johnboy 50% off. Trev, get a dog 50% off, yeah. What are we doing here, Farmer's dog? I know. I know. They're in it. And can I tell you, you know, I'm going to speak real to the dog people out there for a second, Trev. With dogs, you have to be careful of their diet and stuff, right? So like, you know, doing a full, full on switch.
Starting point is 00:05:36 You know, you got to be careful with that. So we were easing noodle in. And so we were doing some like 50-50s. You know, sprinkling it on as like a little cheese for the dog, basically. You know, that was a good way to ease noodle in. And he's a he is rambunctious, strong, a little horny, I think. So thanks to the farmer's dog. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:02 Could have been explaining either of us. It's from his Papps. It's Monday. Let's find out what happened in the American League. And in the AL Beast, the Beast of the East, the Baltimore Orioles, two and a half games back of Tampa. What? And they swept the Blue Jays? Six, two with Gibby on the bump.
Starting point is 00:06:29 A couple extra inning affairs, Felix Bautista gives them two innings in that second game. Cedric Mullins five-hit day. You're going to hear about that one. Gossman gives the Jays eight two earned runs and what turns into a losing effort. I mean, if you listen to this show, you know these guys by now. Adley, Blue Jays, they have a couple goofs and gaffes. Manoa has to get pulled because of a double mound visit rule.
Starting point is 00:06:59 And then they had a couple chances in that final extra inning game to get it done. and they couldn't do it. Orioles sweep. They're sneaking up on the raise, and the Jays are in last place. And the ALE East, my goodness. The Halos, take two from Trevor Ploofs, Twinkies.
Starting point is 00:07:18 He's going to tell you all about what happened in this series. Joe Ryan versus Detmers, yeah, fire me up for that. Some young hot boys. Mickey Moniac, have yourself a series. That could change the formula for them, Hunter Renfro, and that's obvious. And then you got to see that show hey guy, Trev, on the final day, doing his thing. Twins, they won behind Louis Varland and your guy Kyle Farmer, who you feel connected to,
Starting point is 00:07:46 which I like that for both of you. We'll hear your insights on that series. The Houston Astro sweep the Oakland Athletics. They may be the hottest team in baseball, and they take care of their bidness, and they got their guy back, Jose Altuve. The bats didn't necessarily go off. but this team has pitched from the start of the year and their bats will go. Hunter Brown Framber C.G.S.O.
Starting point is 00:08:13 For our small glove king, Oakland. Yikes. Hey, Chicago White Sox sweep week. They sweep the Royals. I told you, White Sox, start winning some more games and we'll talk about you. And Kopec, he drops it on the table. One hit. Lucas Gialito, one earn run over six innings. and Lance Lynn.
Starting point is 00:08:35 This is supposed to be their formula, right? They've got these starters that if you push across enough runs with the Moncada or Romy Gonzalez's big day. Sure. All right, White Sox. Clint Frazier, Jackson Frazier, up for the White Sox. And Trev, that's what happened in the AL, a little high and tight from the American League.
Starting point is 00:08:59 In the American League, Trev, like I told you, Those rays are still on top. 34 and 14, a 708 win percentage. That's crazy. Baltimore Orioles, 31 and 16, right behind them. Here come those Yanks, 29 and 20. The Red Sox kid, 26 and 21, and Toronto brings up the rear. 25 and 22, 8 and a half games back.
Starting point is 00:09:28 The same record as your Minnesota Twins leading the central. The Detroit Tigers. are in second place in the central. Hinch, manager of the year. Guardians are 20 and 26. White Sox in the mix, I suppose. 19 and 29, Royals don't look now. The Texas Rangers, Trev, they just mash atop the West.
Starting point is 00:09:51 The Astros are two games back, creating some distance between the halos. The Mariners, under 500, and the Oakland athletics. Yipes. Uh, Trev, what is? is the AL topic that you want to speak about. Aaron Boone's on the first page of baseball reference today. Okay.
Starting point is 00:10:14 In case you want to know. Former Cincinnati Red, Homecoming. It's going to be a big bird episode. We talked about that before. I mean, we can, I don't want to go too in depth about the Orioles. I know both of us are going to talk about memorials later. Teaser. Shocker.
Starting point is 00:10:31 Shocker. No, that's not the word I was supposed to talk. Spoiler. BBD needs a chill on all those things. Yeah, BBD ended up in Horny social media this weekend. I don't know. People were like, liked it, didn't like it, interesting.
Starting point is 00:10:48 Some of us are sex influencers now, all right? Horny's been said now four times on this episode, and you just said, shocker. One of my buddies went to a baseball game with his brother-in-laws, and, you know, they got a little tuned up watching the Mets game, and they took like a selfie
Starting point is 00:11:04 and he threw up the shocker and everyone was like, what year is it, dude? Growing up the shocker? That's been out for decades. Oh, man. Is it though? Maybe it's back. Was it ever in?
Starting point is 00:11:18 I don't know. The Orioles are in, Trev. Yeah, I think we just go crom pot at year. The Orioles are an incredible team. Sweeping the Js. Jays have lost seven of eight, is that correct? Six of seven, seven or eight. They're on a,
Starting point is 00:11:32 a little downward spiral. They're running into some good teams. But the Orioles, you know, get a great start from Gibby. I talked to him over the weekend. I said, why are you guys so good? He's like, isn't it awesome? Like, he's having the best time. He's having such a good time.
Starting point is 00:11:46 If you watch them play, they're very, they look like they're having a good time on the baseball field. Cedric Mullen's just running around doing his thing. And then in that last game, they had to empty the bench. They used every available player to get the job done. They end up putting up, what, was it a five spot there in the 11? Taryn Varva, my guy gets involved in it as well.
Starting point is 00:12:09 Hayes kind of a little blooper into center for the go-ahead run right there. They're just getting the job done in a bunch of different ways. They're getting some good starts. Kremmer, you sprinkle some hits around. I watched his start. High fastballs top of the zone, just absolutely crushing that zone. And guys are swinging through it. He threw one really nice, like cutter slider to.
Starting point is 00:12:32 strike out Boba's Shett. You get them looking up top of the top of the zone there. And you're trying to lay off that pitch, if you're a hitter. And then you see something down. I'm going to go chase that. And all of a sudden just takes a left turn on you. They're getting the starts that they need. The bullpins doing their job, and they're hitting enough.
Starting point is 00:12:53 And it's, they're like a real deal, like threat to win everything. Trev, they have the. best road record in all of baseball, the Baltimore Orioles. They lead the league, and I keep saying, 16 and 8 away from home. I mean, that's, you try to, the good teams try to go 500 on the road. They're 16 and 8 away from home. And Trev, I think you and I, you know, I completely flipped on the Orioles instantly. I saw what they were about this year between their lineup and their bullpen, and I was like,
Starting point is 00:13:31 Yes, that is what you need to win regular season games in 2023. I think we both align instantly on their fucks-given meter. They're the best team in baseball. Like, well, excuse me, Jose Siri and the Rays are right up there too. When you're going double lollipops in the hair. Dude, they're just going to come out and do their thing. In every inning, it feels like they got a potential rally. And then when you get the baseball.
Starting point is 00:14:03 Baseball kicks in and you get a Ryan O'Hern, three for five with a homer off Romano to tie it in the eighth inning. Like, that's when 13 and 2 in series opener is like, we're starting to get to the point of the season where, you know, numbers kind of mean something. The way that these Orioles open up series and the way they play on the road, that matters to me. Like I think the Marlins, and we'll talk about them a little bit,
Starting point is 00:14:28 like their one-run record thing this year, that's going to be that's going to carry a little bit in this season this team believes in what they do in close games that man if you're the birds again this this result didn't surprise any orio's fans uh i think maybe if you're a blue jays fan you feel like you got punched a little bit in the mouth because you got two extra hitting games here um you know some of those yankees games uh were close to and you're looking you're like how you know they got some good performances from some of their guys in in these past two series and there's just there's just a lot of
Starting point is 00:15:03 L's in the column that I don't know if you're Toronto. That last place feeling sucks even though you're 25 and 22 which would have you top the central seeing yourself there in the standings that doesn't feel right man 13 and 2 in series openers
Starting point is 00:15:19 that dog oh hunt that's what southern people say okay not enough you've heard that before but that's what we talk about I mean, ballplayers talk about winning series. You're a ball player, Jake. We talk about that all the time.
Starting point is 00:15:35 You got to win series. That's what you do. You pair the season down into series. You just try to go. Then they win the series. You know how you win series? Going 13 and 2 in openers. Take the pressure off the next two games.
Starting point is 00:15:47 Twins couldn't do that. We talked about that a little bit. But the formula for the Orioles, you know, we were saying, are they going to pitch enough? Well, the bullpen's been great. So starters, just give us some length. keep the bullpen fresh offense do your thing keep us close we know the bullpen's going to be somewhat locked down so if we're in the game towards the end or we're ahead
Starting point is 00:16:09 towards the end we got a good chance of winning it's kind of been the recipe and it is sustainable as long as you're getting those starts and they're looking i mean some of the starters you know give you had i think he lost three starts in a row then you had a good start here just give him some length and let the bullpen do their thing no reason this can't continue. And more on the birds later in the episode. Cano gives up his first run after 22 and a third or whatever it is. That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:16:39 Trev, I'm going to put my neck out here for one thing with the Blue Jays because, hey, you know, a lot of these games are close and, you know, this ALE East is going to be a bloodbath all year. A week ago, we were talking about the Toronto Blue Jays, sweeping the braves. We're one of the best teams in baseball. So, you know, we're going to ride this roller coaster all year. I'm going to put my neck out there.
Starting point is 00:16:59 Blue Jay fans are feisty, and I love it. That means you're intense. There's a lot of young, passionate Blue Jay fans, and they hate Yankee fans. I get it. Oh, Yankees haven't done a ton of winning recently. Anyways, I'm just going to throw this out there, and it's half a joke, and it's half serious.
Starting point is 00:17:20 Manoa, who'd been struggling this year, he's given them a good effort. It's 5.2. I think two earn runs. Gunner Henderson is up. Pete Walker, the pitching coach. coach visited the mound earlier that inning. And then Schneider goes out, and if you, a coach goes out there twice,
Starting point is 00:17:40 you have to pull the pitcher and make the move. Schneider eats it, and he's like, hey, that's my bad. I forgot that Pete went out there this inning. That's on me. I'm throwing the slightest bit of maybe funny business. Gunner Henderson was up, a 751 OPS versus Ritey's, a 467 OPS versus lefties. Mesa has to come in.
Starting point is 00:18:05 They're really good lefty reliever. And I think it's like, it's pitch 85, like we're deep in the game. If this had happened 41 pitches in, I wouldn't throw any funny business out there. I think this might have been a sneaky Schneider. Like, I'm going to eat it, get my guy out of the game while he's still feeling good and still get the matchup I want. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:18:27 Whoa. I don't know where you're going to that. So you think he didn't want to face Manoa and say, give me the ball kid. So he just was like, I'll act like I didn't know. It was the same trip. I'm not saying anything, but I'm just saying there's a percent chance. No? I don't.
Starting point is 00:18:45 I mean, I guess that's pretty sneaky, bro. And if like that comes out that that's the way he's handling these situations, it's a pretty bad look. I'm just, from the last I saw, Manoa, which was last week, he's had a tough start. He could use a win, and 5.2 with the lead in touring runs feels better than giving him one more batter in losing a good start. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:19:11 I know it's a little deep endy, but Jay's fans comment. We're going to get deep today. It's fine. It could be, it could be that he just zooted it, like he said. Right. And you know what? That doesn't happen very often. So that's like, there's so many coaches in there.
Starting point is 00:19:29 and you're always talking. Right. It's hard to do that. I don't, that's, that's one of these. Yeah, I don't know. Again, we're going to talk a lot of birds later. Let's go to your twins, Trev, and this, I'm going to fully kick it to you.
Starting point is 00:19:45 You were literally in the booth for this. All I know is I saw a clip of Pablo Lopez. They're on a pretty curveball. So you tell me everything else. Yep. I mean, they pitched well. this series, talking about the twins, and so did the Angels, for that matter.
Starting point is 00:20:03 Like, Detmer's line, five and two-thirds, three earned runs is very deceiving. He was absolutely lights out. I got to see these Angels starting pitchers that, you know, Angels fans like to talk to us about. We know Detmer's had the no-hitter last year. His stuff was absolutely electric. He was just riding the inside lane to Ritees.
Starting point is 00:20:25 He throws like a little slider in there, throws the heater in there. Every once in a while, he was like, throwing this get me over curveball, but everything was hard, everything was sharp. I think he even went, he had a no-hitter going through four, something like that. And then the third time through the lineup, there's stats on that. He doesn't perform well at all the third time through line. I mean, the numbers are crazy.
Starting point is 00:20:47 And that happened. Yeah. Like Correa, like walks and then Buck like breaks up the no-no with a cricket swing. I referenced a lot of John Boy media stuff. Yeah, I heard there was a fortitude in there. There was a fortitude. Atani hit a home. said, O'Tani's showing great fortitude.
Starting point is 00:21:01 Do you make it four to two? So shout out. Wow. Yeah, it just kind of unraveled. And then whoever it was, I think Hergett came in and ended up giving up runs that were and accredited to Detmer. So that was a deceiving line there. But the twins just, they couldn't get the job done late.
Starting point is 00:21:20 Bullpen, blew some leads, gave up some leads, couldn't hold towards the end of games. And, you know, the Angels, the lineup's a little bit longer than you, than I've given them credit for. You know, Moniac had a really good series. He robbed the Homer. Then yesterday, he almost robbed another one in the left field stands. Who hit that? Who hit the Homer for the twins in that last game? I forget who it was, but he dove into the stands.
Starting point is 00:21:50 I actually caught it. And as he was coming up, just like the ball just squirted out of his hands. I have his glove, it was, it was interesting. But the twins went two and four on this series. They could have went four and two very easily. They could have went six and no very easily. They just couldn't get the job done late. How about this, Trev?
Starting point is 00:22:12 Did anything you saw from the halos? Because you watch a lot of twins baseball. Did anything you saw from the halos change how you view then? Like you mentioned the lineup and obviously Moniac, former one-one pick, by the way, who's 25 years old. old. You know, he gives them a series. I guess did anything change your view on the Halos as a team? Like I said, offensively, they looked pretty good. You know, they're an okay team. Okay. I don't think they're better than the twins, although they did win this series. The twins were kind of, I mean, they got banged up on this road trip.
Starting point is 00:22:53 Polanco went on the IL. Nick Gordon fractures his shin. Buck didn't play the last. game because he he had a little bit of knee discomfort so it was interesting in that regard but they I don't know they're they're they're they're a decent team show hey mania every single advertisement in that ballpark is a Japanese brand yeah and you start to realize oh this guy is worth so much money to a franchise it's fun seeing him pitch that's cool and they went after him like he didn't have a great series offensively. Him and Trout, like, they just, everything was inside. I mean, that was the game plan, as we've seen a lot of teams due to them.
Starting point is 00:23:37 There were times where I thought, hey, they're going to definitely, like, pitch around Shohei or walk him, and they just went after him. And he, at one point, it was pretty funny. When he hit that Homer to go, to make the game four to two, I said, you know what, dude, he's probably, he's getting, it looks like he's getting sick of getting beat inside. like at one point here, he's going to cheat. And sure enough, he did against Louis Varland. He didn't get it in enough.
Starting point is 00:24:05 And Shohei found the seats. That's another interesting to bit Louis Varland. I didn't know was a wrestler in high school. And he said, it doesn't matter how strong anybody is. He said, if you matched him up with any of the twins players, he'd win in a fight. Wow. And I like that, just declaring that. Wow.
Starting point is 00:24:25 Yeah, don't mind me. I'm the alpha. Yeah. He's like this nice kid from Minnesota, but he's got this massive wingspan, he's thick, and he knows how to wrestle. I was like, I won't fuck with you. You guys have any problems?
Starting point is 00:24:39 Run it through me. I'm that dude. Man, I, uh... Oh, and Kyle Farmer, yes. Kyle Farmer is my new best friend. Sorry, Jake. That's fine. The Halos,
Starting point is 00:24:54 as we talked about the trade deadline's going to be weird, and I wonder, you know, nobody knows what it's really going to look like. New CBA, like, I don't, you know, there's a lot of teams in contention and the extra wild card spots, like, people aren't sure. The Halos feel prime for a trade, and I'm not doing Otani stuff, but like you mentioned, Trev, there's a lot of interesting pieces. You know, they called up the kid Netto, Mickey Moniac gives them a performance. Know who's killing it at AAA right now?
Starting point is 00:25:26 Joe Adele. Yeah. That like, you know, this is the team that traded Marsha Way, and they're kind of getting slightly burnt by that right now, although, you know, our guy, Logan O'Hoppe, did look good before he got hurt, and if he can be good, you know, sometimes you've got to trade something to get something. It just feels like they have lots of pieces that you'd love one or two upgrades, that you could pencil in as, like, bona fide, you know what you're going to get.
Starting point is 00:25:56 So I don't know what that looks like. And I, you know, I wonder if it could even be two somewhat contending teams. Like if there's another contending team that needs multiple pieces and they could get one back, I don't know. I don't know. It's just just an observation when I look at their roster resource and see everyone that's on this team. Like it feels like there can be a next move that could be a potential win-win trade, which I'm going to talk about later. I don't know
Starting point is 00:26:26 That's what I'm seeing They could use another Bullpen piece Estevis looked really good He was just like blowing fastballs by people Incredible year And they just got Aaron Loop They just got Aaron Loop back
Starting point is 00:26:38 Your guy I will say that Netto I was very curious to see him play You know 44 games in the minor leagues I hate him because of that But also respect him because of that So it's one of those things Defensively looks great
Starting point is 00:26:52 Like really solid And it was cool to see him and Correa match up there. They go about it in different ways. Correa sidesteps a lot of ground balls. He's like he always fielding it off to the side. He reads the hop that way. Netto just is smooth moves around. All his actions are so precise out there.
Starting point is 00:27:14 And to me, that's the reason he's in the big leagues. I think they're going to let his bat come if it does. But defensively, he's very, very soft. It's solid. Trevor. Nice. Nice Sack Nito. Neto updates.
Starting point is 00:27:33 Hey man. This is a sweep. It's not a surprising sweep. But they are becoming a storyline again. The Houston Astros sweep the Oakland Athletics. They were always a storyline. Don't get me. They're becoming a storyline again.
Starting point is 00:27:49 They started off a little slow. Mind you that they won the World Series. Right. like they're just waking up from a champagne-filled night, essentially. One-nine of their last 10. Again, I'm a little surprised that these games didn't end up slightly more lopsided, just being half-honest about it. You know, one-run game, two-run game.
Starting point is 00:28:16 Al-Tuve's back, nine out of ten, like, it's go time, and, you know, you can list some sad Oakland facts. We have some on the sheet. I think the story, and you kind of asked me beforehand, and we'll talk about Texas in a little bit who they swept as well. You know, is it going to be a two-dog race out west, or are we going to be laughing at ourselves in Oakland, or excuse me, Houston will be up eight games come August 3rd?
Starting point is 00:28:46 I'm not counting out Seattle yet. Okay. Although, I mean, sitting at 22 and 24, we know how they can put together a streak of really good baseball. Call them dead. I'm not call him dead. Soft. I think by the end of this,
Starting point is 00:29:04 barring, I mean, if the angels make a move, like you're saying, if they're like full desperation, let's make moves, try to keep show hey here. There's already,
Starting point is 00:29:10 I've heard there's some coaching personnel decisions that are made to try to keep show hey there. They're going to do whatever it takes. If they make some moves, I can see them being in contention. But in my mind, it's Texas, Houston, Seattle in that division. So I don't want to call it a two horse race. I think Houston will probably end up on top if I had to guess.
Starting point is 00:29:36 We'll talk more about the Rangers and what they're doing and how they've stayed where they're at, banging the ball around. But, you know, Houston, yeah, sweeping the A's not surprising. Framber, our guy, complete game. shuddy. I think you only threw 104 pitches in it, which is ridiculous. It's go time for them.
Starting point is 00:30:02 They're already showing up. We're actually like they're not even like playing. They're 27 and 19. Yeah. They're eight games over 500. They're doing a good job. Fourth in ERA, starting pitching. Second and bullpen ERA, first in bullpen whip. I know you like that, Trev. And yeah, their
Starting point is 00:30:20 offense hasn't even fully clicked yet. They were without Oatouvae for 43 games. Bregman, starting to put it together. Yordawn, one of the best young hitters together. Kyle Tucker, Abraham Lincoln's kid. Yeah, no, I think we're, I think everyone's kind of about to get the smoke. They're going to Milwaukee for three, then they play Oakland again, then they have another homestand.
Starting point is 00:30:42 Like I think we're going to be talking about them on top of the West soon, or maybe not, because Texas is for real and they took care of their work, too. Who did they sweep before this? Because they won seven in a row. Who did they play? Houston played. I can get it up too. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:02 It's one of those things. Oh, my God. I typed in Houston's schedule and the Texans came up. The Cubs. The Cubs. That's right. Sweep the Cubs.
Starting point is 00:31:13 And then they sweep the A's. Milwaukee. That's what you were telling me. Remember that? You're saying they play Oakland. Dude, I, they're going to be in first place. In Oakland, Oakland fans will agree, like, Houston having six games against Oakland, over-under's five and a half Ws.
Starting point is 00:31:37 And they just got three. Like, it's just where both of those franchises are at, unfortunately. Treve, your white socks, do you want any sauce there, a little sweep? Are the vibes changing? I don't know, man. like what are we supposed to do aren't they there's still 10 games under 500 yeah we're seeing some aspects of a team that on paper is supposed to be good and we're seeing the starting pitching like cope like great for him eight innings pitched no earned runs one freaking hit 10
Starting point is 00:32:18 k's it i don't want to say it's against the royals because look they're a big league team he needs to get going their whole their whole starting staff needs to get going. Like, they have the names there. I think some of these guys have real deal stuff, real deal, you know, track records, if you will. But they got a lot of work to do, man. It's just like you want to believe in them,
Starting point is 00:32:42 but how many times we believed in this White Sox over the last two years and just for not? Yeah, I mean, here's what I can believe in. I can believe in Kopeck going eight innings one hit. Like, you know, his stuff when he's on is, disgusting. Like it's, sometimes I look at his bad performances and I wonder how he can, how that even happens with the kind of stuff he has. Gialito gives a good outing. Lynn is solid. You know, offensively, Robert has been kind of the only guy that's gone, gone for them,
Starting point is 00:33:16 that, you know, if TA 7 can get hot or, you know, Benny can be the 300 Benny hitter and Moncada. Like, I guess this team in our heads has mentally continued to have everything go wrong and not to be full shots fired at your AL Central, Trev. But there's six and a half games back of first place. Like, you know, their bullpen's been awful. But, you know, Graveman and Joe Kelly recently have actually been pretty good. And they're going to get Liam Hendricks back at some point that, like,
Starting point is 00:33:52 the vibes in Ennis. energy can change and we could see a 500 White Sox team in a month, two games out of first place? I don't know. Why not? I've given this exact same speech on this show. Probably two or three times over the last two years. I really have, man. Yeah, that's the problem.
Starting point is 00:34:14 It just hasn't worked out. That's the problem. I would love to see a full four Chicago White Sox team come back and, you know, hammer their way back into contention for the central. I would. I think it would be great for the league. I want all teams be firing it with all cylinders.
Starting point is 00:34:32 That makes for the best baseball. That's what we want to see. This is an entertainment freaking industry. I want the White Sox to compete. They should be good. They do have the names. I got to see it, man. You swept the royals.
Starting point is 00:34:43 Great. I need more. Know what I want to see in about a month or so. They're 29th in Bullpen ERA, 29th in Bullpen Whip. Let's say, Liam. comes back.
Starting point is 00:34:56 I'm not sure the exact timeline there. But this was supposed to be a strength of this team. Like Kendall Graveman. Crochet came back. That's beautiful. Crochet came back. Let's see what he's got. But, you know, if crochet is back and Hendricks is back, you know,
Starting point is 00:35:14 like, let's change that. Because, again, that's part of the reason I get excited about the Orioles and some of these other teams. If you have a bullpen and can hang around, that's, that's, becomes part of the dangerous formula. Jake, I know this is simplifying it, but it is a good snapshot of where a team's at. Bang graphs, roster resource page,
Starting point is 00:35:37 they have all the rankings, team rankings of what you do well or what you don't do well. The only two statistics that this team is top half in baseball is K's per 9. That's both their starters and their bullpen. Great. Everything else, they're below average in.
Starting point is 00:36:00 Everything else. There's 16th in runs right below average. Step it up. 17th in homers. Hit more homers, 21st no PS. Get better. Offense needs to go. I'm like more of a believer in their pitching than their offense.
Starting point is 00:36:17 Believe it or not. You'll see how that goes. We'll see how that turns out for me. It could be, that's a clip you could probably have. But I just, I got to see it more, man. I've been on the white socks, bro. I've been on the white socks. Look at my face.
Starting point is 00:36:35 Like, it hasn't produced a lot of joy for me. Yeah. So I need them to go. That was honest and accurate, Trev. Let's do some National League baseball. You know what's funny, though? Hold on, white socks. One last thing.
Starting point is 00:36:50 Fuzzy from YouTube. Yeah. Friend of the program. famously him and I had a fake beef online at one point that was I've never really had any beef with this guy I like Fuzzy he is now going through the Louis Rabeer name
Starting point is 00:37:08 can't decide what to call him and he's going through it he's like tweeting and putting out on his Instagram and no one really knows I think it's we've been there Robert Robert Robert he says like he says like robber Fuzzy is in the weeds
Starting point is 00:37:25 I don't know if he must have got into some fights or something because like, I mean, I've seen pronunciate, I've seen audio clips, I've seen everything. Exactly. Yeah, we have checked any piece of footage we could get our hands on. It's all over the place. No two people say it quite the same.
Starting point is 00:37:42 Here's my advice to you, Fuzzy. Just, any much of your deal, bro. Just try your best. As long as you're showing respect to a guy's name, what are you going to do? Try your best with Foco. F-O-O-C-O. You guys probably already know them because they are basically the number one fan merch in the world. It doesn't say that, but I believe in it. Starting point is 00:38:59 Do you remember when this was a thing? Kind of, yeah. Can you do that? Can you do it? Sneaky not that long ago. Well, you don't mean like the dipper thing or what? No, it's just like the Allie G. Alli G.
Starting point is 00:39:13 I love it. Allie G is too good. Okay. Trev, I mentioned this episode was for the birds and the St. Louis Cardinals. Check another box, and they do it in somewhat impressive fashion. They take three out of four from the Dodgers, and they put up some crooked numbers in the first game. They get to Eureas, and then he leaves with injury.
Starting point is 00:39:41 Dodgers are going to have some kids throwing the pill. You mentioned our guy Oscar Mercado in that last game. The Oscar Mercado game. I mean, Nolan Gorman is a man on fire. He can't be stopped. William Contreras has a two-homer game. Paul DeYoung still does it for the Cardinals sometimes. Dodgers, they won that second game behind Catterday, and that's obvious.
Starting point is 00:40:07 But the Cardinals take three out of four, and man, are things feeling different in St. Louis, right about now, the Funk Show, brother? The Diamondbacks take two out of three from the Pirates, and what if I told you they lost the first game, and it was a Zach Gallen? game and he got knocked around a little bit. You'd say that's not the formula. Oviedo Pishwell, but then the
Starting point is 00:40:33 snakes come back. They get it done. Corbin Carroll and Catele Marte. Cetel Marte Ball jumps off his bat too. Corbyn Carroll goes freak show in the final game. Homer, two stolen bases. Scottie
Starting point is 00:40:48 McCaw doesn't McAff it up. Two innings for the hold important in that game. They get it done, man. They survive Mitch Keller, who he's been absolutely nails lately. Snakes, a nice little series win. Speaking of, Tref, two of my favorite teams to talk about.
Starting point is 00:41:08 The Marlins and the Giants teed it up, and your Giants get it done. They win the bread games. They survive a sandy day. They couldn't survive Brax and Garrett because nobody can at this point. But then they win on the final day. Patrick Bailey having a major league debut to remember. He hits a homer. All of his family was there.
Starting point is 00:41:31 J.D. Davis has been getting it done for them. Mitch Hanager. When that guy's on the field, he hits Giants. They get a nice series win. I think they're third place in the NL West right now. Fish, whatever. Phillies, they take on the Cubbies, two teams that are thirsty for wins. Cubs, blow them.
Starting point is 00:41:54 out on the first game. Strow Show gets it done. Six innings, one earned run with Horner and Magical. Oh, my short Kings getting it done for them. But Nola, Schwabre, Cody Clements with a big day at the ballpark. How about, how do you like that? B.B. D was in attendance. Is that would spark the Phillies infield to get it done as they win the final game to one final Taiwan Walker? Bryson Stott with the big pinch hit. Home. Run to win it. Man, Phillies needed it. Cubs needed it too. They don't get it. And that's what happened in the National League. You're the best, Poppy. Baby, you my everything, you all I ever wanted. Braves, 29 and 17, top the east. The New York Mets, a big inner league. 25 and 23. Second place Mets,
Starting point is 00:42:49 okay, that's starting to make more sense. Fish are a game above 500. Phillies are two games below. Nats, 20 and 27. The Milwaukee Brewers are a game up on the Pittsburgh Pirates at 25 and 21. The Cardinals, five games back, 21 and 27, still an ugly record, but 8 and 2 in their last 10 feels better. The Cubs, kind of the opposite, 20 and 26, they're 3 and 7 in their last 10. A game up on the Cincinnati Reds, who have lost four in a row. The Dodgers, 29 and 19.
Starting point is 00:43:25 D-backs 27 and 20. San Francisco, they're 22 and 24, six games back. Padres, 21 and 26. Colorado Rockies are 19 and 28. Trev, I guess,
Starting point is 00:43:41 like we said, it's a big bird episode. You're an L.A. guy. Are we starting off there? Dodgers, it's going to be tested this year. There's no doubt about it, although they're still just winning games, but they are going to have to dive
Starting point is 00:43:55 deep into the pitching depth, more injuries for them. Urias comes out with, I believe, a hamstring issue. Cindergarde and Kershaw are the only guys left from the opening day rotation. Now Gonslin's back. He didn't start the year there, but we had a couple of debuts, coming up, or not a debut. Stone is coming back. He's going to pitch, I believe, on Monday, and then it is a debut for
Starting point is 00:44:23 my guy, Bobby Miller, going to be. against Spencer Strider on Tuesday, but in this series, Cardinals did it, man. They're hot right now, and we knew they were going to be hot, and I had a take earlier this year with C. Rose, he asked me, if I'd rather have the Cardinals lineup or the Braves lineup, and I think both of us took the Cardinals lineup, and then they just were playing so poorly that we both said,
Starting point is 00:44:49 what were we thinking? I can't believe that we chose that, but they've been going. Obviously, Aeronado has been mashing the ball as of late, but everyone else is doing it as well. Now, Jake, fifth in OPS, fifth in homers, fifth in runs, fifth and on base percentage. Like, their offense is where we thought it would be. Now, he braves, third in OPS, seventh in runs. So comparable, which we said they were both very good, but the Cardinals' offense has been getting it done. three or four from the Dodgers is
Starting point is 00:45:25 legit no matter how you slice it doesn't matter where they're pitching is at how many guys are on the injure this doesn't matter three or four from the Dodgers is quite the feat and they're feeling it man this is a big bird episode I know the record doesn't look great
Starting point is 00:45:45 but they dug themselves in such a big hole that it's not going to look good until what like July maybe Yeah, I mean That's how baseball works Like they're playing very good baseball right now The record won't get there until Like I said, around July
Starting point is 00:45:59 We might see a four game over You know, 500 Cardinals team It's gonna take some time Like they really, really dug themselves deep But they're starting to look Like the team we thought they would be Yeah, I mean you either need one more crazy hot streak And like that kind of gets you to 500
Starting point is 00:46:19 But you're right man, you're chipping away and I will say this, at Cincinnati, at Cleveland, two with Kansas City. So, again, not a lot of soft parts of schedules, but if you can turn those nine games into a seven and two, which that's the pace they've been playing at against some really good teams, keep it going. Keep the momentum going, because you're right. I mean, you're not going to have the record Cardinals fans wanted you to have,
Starting point is 00:46:50 you know, until like July 1st at the best. So keep winning, keep hitting. And man, that lineup, that's, I, on Wake and Jake, I got caught up day before the season recording. And I was like, dude, this Cardinals team is stacked, man. Like, they've got bonus pieces that, you know, Nolan Gorman has been one of the best hitters in baseball, and he was a bonus piece for them.
Starting point is 00:47:20 going into the year. He has gone. Aeronado has clicked. Contreras, you know, there's been, we had a lot of combos about him. He's hitting. Tommy Edmund started to go, like, they have the pieces. They needed some efforts from their starting pitchers. They're starting to get those at least.
Starting point is 00:47:39 Yeah, just keep it going. Because, you know, you can only slip up so much the rest of the way. Like another, you know, you put together a two and eight week, and you're back in the dark place. So keep going. Dodgers, it's going to be super interesting, Trev. They're giving these kids a shot. They're real kids, right?
Starting point is 00:47:57 Like these are prospects. You've been on the Bobby Miller train for far too long. But at the same time, they're going at Atlanta at Tampa. And, you know, when the Dodgers were originally lining up their Atlanta, I don't think they thought Stone and Miller were going to be their first two starts. This is what they've been able to do. That's why they've been able to sustain success. I'm not saying these guys are going to come out
Starting point is 00:48:24 and just light the world on fire. They might. There's a chance, but I bet they give them an effort. And for me, you know, watching the Dodgers in that series against the twins, they have some high-end talent in that bullpen, but I think that's an area where they could use some help as well. It'll be interesting to see what they do there.
Starting point is 00:48:45 I like the stat for Goldie. Okay. Because, you know, we, Goldie is, MVP and we know what he can do offensively and he's always been able to swipe bags though that's like a underrated or like under the radar i guess i should say part of his game 30 consecutive stolen bases without being caught 30 it's an athlete man my goodness dude i love that yes noon gorman has been incredible for them i saw kenny rosenthal interview him that was electric My five, four and a half king.
Starting point is 00:49:24 Yeah, Gorman, three-run homer off Victor Gonzalez, basically wins them the game. Outman, our linebacker, he robbed Goldie of a homer in this series. And then, yeah, the Oscar Mercado game, which is good to see, man. I know we were really hyped for him. We had a fun time talking with him, and then baseball-wise, things were kind of tough with him for a little bit,
Starting point is 00:49:47 but kind of reunion for him. in St. Louis, and he has a monster day, a couple monster hits that help them. You know, three out of four feels a lot different than two out of four. As it does. Analytics Binder. Nice.
Starting point is 00:50:02 Yeah, that's in there. What do you want for my snakes, Trev? Keep winning series. I mean, they are, that's what they do. They win series. And look, right now, if you're looking at the standings, like, it's, this is a time. where they could jump the Dodgers.
Starting point is 00:50:22 If we're talking about, Dodgers pitching is banged up. Now I know, look, they got, they have depth. They always have depth. They have guys. But like this, we could be talking about
Starting point is 00:50:31 the first place. Snake's team. Trev, within the week. Within the week. Don't let these kids get that taste in their mouth. Okay. That's what I'm saying, dude.
Starting point is 00:50:45 They win series. They can win games in many different fashions. They lost the Zach Gallen start to open off this series, and they still won two out of three. They find ways to win. That's what they do. They're one and a half games back to the Dodgers right now.
Starting point is 00:51:05 Dodgers are, it's tough. When you're going through that with your starting rotation, we know they have other facets of their team and their roster, they can get the job done. But if you want to scare people, go take that division lead this week. Like, I would love, I would love to see that happen. Trev, can I tell you another thing?
Starting point is 00:51:29 And, hey, Natasha Bettingfield said it best. The rest is still unwritten. Oh, yeah. But that Toronto snakes trade, Dalton Varsho just got slid down the lineup. He's been struggling early on. You know, I kind of alluded to that. Like, it's, you know, tough to switch leagues. and, you know, they were going to lean on him a lot.
Starting point is 00:51:56 Meanwhile, for my Diamondbacks, Moreno's been hopping behind the dish for them, and Gurriel 887 OPS right now. He's been going. And, man, he was a guy that was really well liked on those teams and always a threat. He's always had a positive OPS plus every year since 2018. He's currently having one of his best years,
Starting point is 00:52:24 so that could come down a little bit. But also, you know what? Arizona ain't a bad place to hit sometimes either. So right now they're feeling good. And yeah, man, Corbyn's an absolute freak show. Ketel Marte, go check out his homer. I was wondering if it was going to get out. It got out.
Starting point is 00:52:48 There's a lot of guys on this team that, yeah, if they get that taste, if they get a little sip of maybe a June 1st place, a little bit of that venom? Mm. Mm. Seven guys with an OPS plus over 100. Paven Smith with a big Homer.
Starting point is 00:53:04 I think that's what put him over the 100 threshold. So, like, there is a deep line up there. Starting pitching, they can do enough. They have a couple real, real deal guys. They can do enough. And then Miguel Castro kind of like figuring things out in that. Bullpen is interesting to me because he's kind of like a freaky type pitcher. I feel like he could really go on runs if he figures some things out with a tech.
Starting point is 00:53:28 And like he's a guy that could just, he could, he could shut games down with the best of them if things are right. His highs are high, his lows are low from everything we've seen up into this point. Yes, but he's figuring things out. It looks really good. And I mean, are we on, you're on the snake train. You're on the snake train. BD and Trev if you want to play. How old do you think?
Starting point is 00:53:53 think Miguel Castro is 30 28 28 I had him 30 31 so like you know think about the story of baseball uber talented guide needs a little more more time to click now I know Orioles fans had thought that for a while Mets fans Yankees fans so uh but while it's working well it's working right it out wouldn't be the first guy to fully put it together you versus Castro We got a guy on that. Pirates fans, I guess you guys let me know. As we should say at the start of every episode, you guys know your team better than us.
Starting point is 00:54:37 You know, it feels like things have come back to Earth a little bit. Where are we at? I mean, Mitch Keller has been like the best pitcher in baseball. It's got to feel tough kind of losing one of those starts. But at the same time, he has been the guy, he was the guy keeping the ship afloat it felt like as the ship's... Oh for two, two groundouts to short.
Starting point is 00:54:59 Oh. Come on. One of them was a full count, though. You're battling. Are you sure those are right? Those stats are right? 2017, June 30th, and July 25th. You moved Long ago to third, though.
Starting point is 00:55:13 Oops. Maybe I gave myself up. Maybe that's what it was. Oh, yeah. Anything for the team. We do got to keep it. moving a little bit here, Poppy. Let me know, Pirates fans.
Starting point is 00:55:26 Genuine question. What's the pulse at? I mean, as of late, it's not good. Right. What do you mean? I mean, the record in their last, let me get their schedule. They're a game back of first place, though. Like, again, if...
Starting point is 00:55:40 Yeah, but they started off, hot. I know, but the story of baseball in a long season... The 4 and 13 in May. Things aren't good in Pittsburgh. And I think two of... of those are like Keller, like perfect games, basically. Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:00 Trev, your Giants. Third place in the NL West. They beat the fish. The one game the fish won was a one-nothing game. The Patrick Bailey stuff was pretty cool in this one. First Major League game hits a homer. I don't know. I feel like if these teams played 100,
Starting point is 00:56:24 62 times it would be 81 and 81. Interesting. Interesting take there. They're both prove it teams to me still. May 22nd. We know what the record is in one-run games for the for the Marlins. I guess they went one-in-one in those,
Starting point is 00:56:42 so it kind of messed up their record a little bit. They lost the first game four to three. That was a big throwing error by Sandy. Which is interesting. That's tough when you do it to yourself. And then they won the next game, won nothing. so they got that back. Yeah, both prove it teams to me.
Starting point is 00:56:57 I got to see more of them. I know that's not like great intel, great take on this. I'm sorry guys. It's honest, man. I mean, it'd be weirder if you were banging the table like the Giants are going to win the West, you know?
Starting point is 00:57:10 It's, if either of these teams get the juice, we'll be kind of excited for all the reasons we've talked about for, you know, four years of talking baseball. But yeah, Offenses looking pretty good. Like guys that you necessarily wouldn't expect to be leading the way.
Starting point is 00:57:32 I mean, late night Lamont's doing his thing, J.D. Davis. I mean, the names that are here that are, you know, 800 plus OPS is kind of shocking. Tyro Estrada. Doing it. My guy Blake.
Starting point is 00:57:48 Yeah. Doing it. Like these guys, like, Again, it's more like, can they keep it up offensively, I think is a take of mine. Okay. How about that? Okay. Jorge Soler is hot, and that's always fun to watch because he is a monster.
Starting point is 00:58:08 They can pitch. Oh, my gosh. Trev, what else do we have here? Cubbies, Phillies, and this is the final game in the NL, or final series, excuse me. Phillies win the series. I was going through their stat page today because there was Espin, the leader of sports, had a tweet I was mad about.
Starting point is 00:58:32 They were like, Trey Turner had more Homer and steals in the WBC than he's had in the MLB this season. And I was like, get out of here, Espin. That's what you're going to tweet baseball-wise? Massive Bryson-Stat, a pinch hit home run that gives them the lead and the win.
Starting point is 00:58:51 I don't know, these are both teams kind of going through it right now. And Cubbies, you've got to be bummed if you lose on Steel Day, because again, he's been one of the best pitchers in baseball, but Taiwan Walker goes toe-to-toe with them. Otherwise, the first two were kind of blowouts. Yeah, Philly's offensively for me, like that's kind of where they need to step it up. I think they're 20th and runs scored.
Starting point is 00:59:17 They have some guys doing all right. Brandon Marsh got to a really, really good start. Castellanos has had a really good start to the year as well. But you know guys like Schwabber, like you gotta get going. You mentioned Trey Turner, you gotta get going. So there is like, to me, a lot of room for improvement for the Phillies.
Starting point is 00:59:36 Are they kind of going through their ho-hum season and we'll wait to the postseason type thing? I don't know if you can do that. I don't know if that's like sustainable every single year. I know we've mentioned it on this show a couple times. They don't really care about the regular season, but in all honesty, that's kind of BS. You got to get it going.
Starting point is 00:59:57 The regular season does matter, especially, you know, there's some good teams out there this year. I feel like there's a lot of teams in contention and you don't want to fall too far behind. I guess if your question is Philly, I need Schwabber to be better and Trey Turner to be better. I can believe in that.
Starting point is 01:00:14 I'll believe in that. If you're the Cubbies, you just got Horner back. Morel has been going crazy. Eight homers and 11 games. Everyone likes that guy. He's legit. Dude, he's got the smile. He's got the swagger.
Starting point is 01:00:28 And like the results are there too, that I'm, I guess I'm weird out that more people aren't on. What are Stroman's numbers on the year? They have to be incredible. Every time I look up, he's on six or seven innings one run. I, you know, I think if you told Cubs fans that Justin Steele was going to be who he is, that the whole pitching staff,
Starting point is 01:00:53 the Cubs have some numbers that tell you their record should be a lot better than it is. They are a top seven offense by a lot of metrics, and their top 10 starting pitching staff by a lot of metrics that, you know, that shouldn't feel like 20 and 26 a game up on the Reds? I don't know. He had, he's got like a three, ERA.
Starting point is 01:01:16 one really bad start here. That was the last one against my twins, two and two-thirds, six-earned runs. Other than that, he's been pretty much lights out, another hiccup, five-innings, five-urned runs against the Dodgers. Every other start, other than that, though, at least six-innings pitched, two earned runs or less. So you're right.
Starting point is 01:01:40 I mean, yeah, that's something you definitely signed up for at the beginning of the season. Cubbies. let us know. I know Ty Jones really struggled for them. He's got to figure it out, but he can be streaky. So maybe if he gets going and stro and steal stay, I don't know. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:02:02 Let's burn through some Interleague baseball. Because Trev, your raise versus my Milwaukee Brewers, the raise. Ho! Houser, McClan, tee it up, one-nothing raise. about that. Sack Fly is underrated. My guy, Joe's, will tell you that. Rays, they win the second game, eight, four, but the Brewers hold on the final day. Tellez, Contreras, Yeli. There's your formula. Led Zeflin, seven innings. Nice day. Yandi Diaz is back for them. That guy is a monster, and the Ray's social team used a clip of me talking about him. So, and you're going to hear a little bit about slick Willie Adomas later.
Starting point is 01:02:51 Braves take two out of three from Seattle. They take the bread games. Jesse Chavez, opener day. Logil was good in that second game. Prices teed it up in the first one. Miller versus Elder. A lot of prices this year. Somehow they lose on George Kirby Day.
Starting point is 01:03:11 That's impossible. Jared, let the shoesting begin. Darno homers, Matt Olson, with the big RBI. win the series. Seattle. Start winning some series. Sox win another series, and it's against a team that they need to start going. San Diego, man. Feel like a broken record. Um, Red Sox, Chris Sale, seven innings, two earn run. They like that. James Paxton. Six innings, one earn run. Devers with a double ding-dong day. Waka drops it on the final day. Kluber does not have it. Matt Carpenter. Pretty left-on-left home run from him. I mean, Padres, what the heck, man. Yankees
Starting point is 01:03:55 sweep the Reds. Yankees are rolling right now, probably your second hottest team to those Houston Astros. Luis Severino comes back for them. He looks fine. Man, the Yankees. Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo, these guys are just hitting and hitting. Judge has a four-hit day. Rizzo has back-to-back games with homers. The Yankees are feeling great right now, man. And they release Aaron Hicks. That was kind of a Yankee bomb that they finally went on with that. And Trev, the other thing that's going on here,
Starting point is 01:04:30 a couple sweeps by a couple teams I think we think are pretty good. The Mets sweep the guard dogs. Five straight wins. One-run games. We've got walk-offs. Alonzo's hump and stuff. stuff in the dugout. Uh, the vibes have
Starting point is 01:04:49 completely trained, changed LGM. Let's go Mets. Verlander, eight innings, one earned run. My goodness. Francisco Alvarez with a homer. Mets sweep. Guardians. Is Chris Rose okay?
Starting point is 01:05:05 I don't know. Uh, but the Mets, they have changed the tune of this season almost instantly. Five straight. And the Texas Rangers Trev? They sweep the rocks, and it's not even really competitive, man. And it's because these Texas Rangers bang, Zeke Duran, three-hit day. Corey Seeger's back with three hits and a homer.
Starting point is 01:05:30 Seeger Simeon again in the final game. They are for real, man. And they have one of, if not the best offense in baseball. And they kind of make light work of Kelsey Wingard's rocks, who are 0 and 24 when trailing after seven innings this year. Not the vibe you want. Treb? Tigers and Nats, I'll let you break it down fully.
Starting point is 01:05:55 Nats take two out of three from the second place, Tigers. Let's go, Nats. I'm all in on them. Corbyn gets a win. Six innings, two earn runs. Plain Pat, what up? Josiah Gray, our boy, he does it in that last game. Lane Thomas, what are you about?
Starting point is 01:06:13 Oh, sure. Riley Adams' four-hit day. That's all you're getting from me. That's what happened in Interleague baseball. Why is Interleague always the best portion of our show? There's been some big boy matchups recently in the Interleague. I don't know if that's just been scheduling or what, but... I think there needs to be a new name for Interlead. Okay.
Starting point is 01:06:41 I don't know why. I don't know why. I just thought about that. I had someone yell at me this weekend. They wanted Interleague to go back to being like a portion of the season. Like maybe we have two weeks of Interleague play. I don't think it can work like that with the balanced schedule. But I do kind of like that though in some format. I don't know. We'll talk to Uncle Bob after the show.
Starting point is 01:07:13 I think they do still put more of. them in June, but I'd have to crunch some numbers. Interesting. I wanted to go back to, look, yeah, American League, National League, and if you win the American League and straight record during the regular season, you just go straight to the World Series. That's how the Yankees won all their World Series. They never got tested.
Starting point is 01:07:32 Never. Still haven't been tested. Can you imagine, bro? Like, you have this banger of a season. You finish one game behind this other team, and, like, they just get to go play for the World Series, and you go home. It's awful. You don't even get a chance to
Starting point is 01:07:47 It's awful. It's like, you know, maybe we're getting to too many playoff games. But, yeah, I mean, that was such a miss. It's crazy. I did not think more playoffs were a good idea.
Starting point is 01:08:02 That's great. I mean, how many games didn't matter by the end? I know there were fewer teams, but come on. Trevor, I'm talking a little bit of Brewers later, so we can, we can table some of it. Rays, I mean, they
Starting point is 01:08:18 hold serve at home and it's no shot because they're 20 and 3 at home now. You know, they're tying your 78 socks, your 79 Montreal Expos, and the 22 Giants. I love this team because they can have a game like they did in the first game. They have Shane McClanahan go,
Starting point is 01:08:37 he's balling out, and then have a sacrifice fly. And that's it. You win the game. Like, when you have ball games like that, you know how good that feels as a baseball team? like we did we did one thing right we got the guy in from third base less than two outs and our pitcher did his thing in our bullpen held that's like boom thank you what a freaking game if you take the first game you win the second game you automatically win the series and it's kind of what they do they can come at you from all different angles different ways to win games it's it's fun to watch them play i think i've said this before uh i'm all in on Josh Lowe for them. He is a beast.
Starting point is 01:09:22 He's a freak specimen. First round pick. Looks the part, acts the part throughout Willie Domas in this series. And I just found out he is the brother of Nathaniel Lowe, who's on the Chris Rose rotation this week. You didn't know that? Well, with all the lows and louss and louss, yeah. Some number of them were connected.
Starting point is 01:09:42 I just forgot where the streams started and stopped. he's a problem problem. Yeah, they win the first game one thing, and they hit a bunch of homers in the second game to get it going. In that second game that the Jesse Winker getting the strike called on him, I don't know how you do that as an umpire. I get those rules in place, and Winker, I guess, should know them and be in the box ready,
Starting point is 01:10:09 but the pitcher is just like off the mound. Doesn't seem like that's really like you, doing anything as a hitter. I don't get it. Hitters, I've said this before. It's a pitch clock. Pitchers should be ready when they need to be ready.
Starting point is 01:10:23 Hitters can do whatever they want. You can't call an automatic strike on that. That's insane. He got to end up getting ejected, and I think I would have too. Hell yeah. Hell yeah. Even though I never got ejected in my major league career.
Starting point is 01:10:36 No big deal. Proud of you. Trev Mariners Braves, I'm going to be honest, and I'll just shoot the people. This series is a little bit of a blind spot for me. Why is that? I don't know. I was checking in around the league and I just, I don't know. Late nights. I know our- Two really good teams going at it.
Starting point is 01:10:56 Garcia's back. I like the Miller Elder, Bryce Bryce Bowl. Right. Bryce, Bryce Baby. Bryce Miller's something else. I mean, we talked about him a lot. But this is more of a tester start for him. He didn't just cruise in it. Bray's in it winning 6-2. because the other Bryce held into less runs. What's interesting about the Braves, and I've,
Starting point is 01:11:22 what's interesting, to me, what stood out to me is you got guys like Jesse Chavez opened the game, and then my guy, Michael Tonkin, they're just like finding these guys that have kind of like been around the league
Starting point is 01:11:33 and they're using them in these situations. And Tonkin's been really good. I think he struggled a little bit in this series, but they have had some injuries to their pitching staff as well. and they're finding guys like Schuster coming up doing his thing and relying on their depth and that's what good teams do. Matt Schuster starts big.
Starting point is 01:11:54 The Braves, their 0-and-3 when they try to bullpen days so far this year. And yet, just some wonky stats from that rotation between right and freed missing time. You know, I think the Braves, there might be an oh-snap moment later in the season where we're like, wow. Like, they have. haven't been near, I think, the peak of their powers,
Starting point is 01:12:18 and they still have the best record in the National League, as we stand today, that when they get some other things right, they're going to be, and they have been a problem. You know, Michael Harris, Deuce hasn't given them anything really, really recently. Ozuna's having a hell of a month. He's stepped up for them.
Starting point is 01:12:39 And Arcea, how about that? Think about how much we talked about Von Grisham this offseason, and Arcia, when he's been in there, he's been incredible. No, I mean, that's, he, I like that he's doing that because of how much people were talking about Von Grissom, he came in and from when we talked to Peter Moyland about it, he just said that Grissom hasn't done enough to earn the job, and Arcea is kind of like the steady hand, if you will.
Starting point is 01:13:05 And then you get him to that lineup, you know that you don't have to, you know, necessarily do much. Like you have guys around you that are going to provide offense, go play a steady short stuff. and I think that takes a little bit of pressure off you as a player. Trev. Been saying Treve a lot.
Starting point is 01:13:25 Red Sox fathers. Padres, man. I don't, I feel like I read this same thing every episode. Not hitting. Like Padres lose two out of three. You had the old man Red Sox rotation come in and, you know, they've been doing all right. Paxton has looked good since he's come back. Sixth and he's pitched one and run there.
Starting point is 01:13:48 sale had a couple bad starts seven innings pitched two earn runs like okay Kluber got knocked around only one earned run to get five two and a third right there
Starting point is 01:14:01 and Waka has a good game for the Padres basically that's what they need they need a pitcher to shut a team out for them to win and that is not the Padres that we expected
Starting point is 01:14:12 coming into this season it's been it's been it's been bad you've got to be pretty upset if you're a Padres fan. And we fluffed them up as well at the beginning of the season. This is going to be an all-time offense. Can you imagine going through these first four or five guys? This really hasn't happened for them.
Starting point is 01:14:34 James Paxson first win since August 15th, 2020. Pretty little crazy journey back for him. And hey, socks, kid. You know, keep Toronto in your rear view. keep winning games. And I do know my socks buddies, they are over Kluber. And man, when he's not right and he's throwing 85 mile per hour heaters and getting rocked, it can be a tough watch.
Starting point is 01:15:04 It can be. I mean, when you have a rotation full of guys who are like kind of, you're looking to get a resurgence or, you know, they're older and you're just trying to extract some innings out of them, you're going to have some starts like this and some guys like this. You're not going to hit on all of them. So Kluber's kind of, yeah,
Starting point is 01:15:25 not endearing himself to the Red Sox faithful. Padres on that last game is their first time putting up seven runs since May 3rd. Three weeks. This is the Padres. Like, what? This team should stumble into three run innings.
Starting point is 01:15:42 I don't know. Kill an animal or something. Hmm. Two games started for Paxton, 11 innings pitch. She's only nine hits, only three runs, 14Ks. I need a Red Sox Yankees series. When's that coming? Yeah, Padres, you're about to get it.
Starting point is 01:16:04 What is you doing, baby? Did I already give them one? I think you already did. I think they deserve more. They're kind of, I don't know. I think everyone's nervous to say something because they think it's about to click. But it's been bad. I'm getting up there
Starting point is 01:16:21 26th in runs scored C-Rose and I talked about this The only teams behind them are like what The nationals the A's the Right You know like the bottom barrel teams 30th and average
Starting point is 01:16:38 I know it doesn't mean everything But last in the big leagues In an offensive category The San Diego Padres Yeah Right now Average OVP OPS Runs Homer's and Stolen Base
Starting point is 01:16:53 They have one category that's not in the 20s, not in the 20s. And that's homers at 18. Like 22nd and stolen bases. They're not running. 26 and runs. 24th and OPS. 30th in battings. Holy shit.
Starting point is 01:17:12 Nando's uncorked a couple throws from right field. That's been fun. Start hitting. Start winning. That's the formula. That's what worked for my yanks. They sweep the reds. I don't need a draft.
Starting point is 01:17:24 Actually, there's three. sweeps here. I'll let you pick one. I don't think we need to do the Yanks at all. The Mets and the Texas Rangers Mets is probably the biggest one because it feels like they just pivoted their whole season.
Starting point is 01:17:41 We had the Alonzo Homer and they're like, are we going to get, is this going to change the season? I'm like, I don't know. And then he ties the game up on that Friday. And then Lendor, it's the walkoff against the former team. You're like, yeah, okay, that's nice, that's big.
Starting point is 01:17:59 You're right, Alonzo's humping everything, then get the rain out, and then you get the boys going back-to-back, Scherzer-Verlander, and they just tune them up. I mean, look, the Guardian's offense is nothing to write home about, no doubt about that, but this is like the Mets kind of way that we're expecting. And they got to continue to do it and all that, and it's a long season,
Starting point is 01:18:25 and their pitching staff is old as shit, and I get it. But that was a fun series to watch. I was kind of tuned into that one. Good for them. You know, that Bieber Verlander matchup, that's hot. That's hot.
Starting point is 01:18:41 Yeah. Both go eight innings. Beaver gives up two runs. And then it gives it one. That's a fun ball game. Dever's fun watch, man. When he's, you know, twirling 91, but he can still just dominate you.
Starting point is 01:18:56 And we talked a lot of stats this episode. A lot of the Mets stats are not pretty. The fact that they are 25 and 23, it goes back to where they were the end of April. Like, they haven't had a ton go right, and it feels like the energy has changed. They, you know, they're not going to think they're out of any games, the rest of the way.
Starting point is 01:19:18 They have those guys back in the rotation. They're giving young guys a chance. It's like Alonzo's a monster that, yeah, I think the Mets are about to run hard. And the team that's been running hard is the Texas Rangers. They sweep the rocks and Trev a lot. I've been hammering home how important offense is. These Texas Rangers have been toe to toe with the race as the best offensive team. You kind of knew those top guys.
Starting point is 01:19:48 I remember, I forget if it was the Yankees or Rangers TPP, me and Jim got. and a little jakey Jim Bicker about like who's offensive leg. I was like, I like these Rangers. Like their top four can go with anyone that I didn't know Josh Young was going to be who he is. I didn't know Jonah Heim was going to be who he is. And man, Zeke Duran and Leotis Stavars, they're getting efforts from other guys too. You thought their top four could go with anybody? This is a shock to me how well this team is playing.
Starting point is 01:20:17 I call me like, call me dumb, you know, whatever. Like this is the way the Texas Rangers are playing baseball is a shock to me And the best way possible I love that they're doing it Sure you thought their top four could go with anybody I like their top four I mean I can I can snag some receipts I remember saying that they needed some young guys to step up And I really wanted them to have one more veteran And Robbie Grossman has kind of been that for them
Starting point is 01:20:50 But I I slept on Josh young and I slept on Jonah Haim and that's what's allowed them to be one of the best lineups I you know I I expect Marcus Simeon to be good every year I expect Seeger to be good every year and he was supposed to be like the number one shift guy I think Nathaniel low again rose rotation if he's a guy that you watch play every day you appreciate more and Adolis like all he does his over under on RBIs this year was like 101 like that's a big boy number that yeah I really I got it already
Starting point is 01:21:24 50 something right I've got 49 already sheesh 49 RBIs and 45 games that's where I thought their lineup would be a flip the lineup team and every time you have to come
Starting point is 01:21:36 through those four you're in trouble a little bit but with the extra they're getting this team bludgeoned that they're first in runs first and average second in OBP and OPS the thing that's kept them I mean they're banging the ball there's no doubt about that.
Starting point is 01:21:53 By all intents and purposes, the best offensive team in baseball right now. By a majority of the stats. And that is a shock to me. And it's a shock that their pitchers have done what they've been able to do. I love Eauvaldi. I'm probably the highest of anybody in baseball
Starting point is 01:22:10 when I talk about Eovati coming into the season. He's a guy that he has the stuff, and he could be really good. He can be absolutely dominant. I don't think he gets mentioned in that category very often. but he's been great. John Gray has been great. Martine Perez,
Starting point is 01:22:25 been solid. Andrew Heaney, been solid. They have enough starting pitching that when you're scoring as many runs as they score, like it takes the pressure off the boys a little bit. It's shocking to me that they've been able to do what they've been able to do. It really is.
Starting point is 01:22:44 But good for that, man. Like they have seven dudes with an OPS plus over 100, plus Corey Seeger's back now, So make that eight because he's going to have one. I guess I was saying it, but that's the thing that's different. I thought they were going to have, I thought they had four guys that you can really truly pencil in are going to be plus offensive players, and that's a nice way to kick off the lineup.
Starting point is 01:23:05 Those other guys, it changes the whole complexion, and they are one of the teams that is the biggest wrench in this season so far. I can't believe we didn't mention the Yankees at all. Wow. We're running a little late here, but. You guys always talk about the yuggies. They sweat the Reds. Shout out Ben lively, coming back.
Starting point is 01:23:25 That's my boy. Yeah. Be lively. He was. Trev, I get pretty lively when I'm sipping on blue moons. Need one. Right now. I'll take a blue moon right now.
Starting point is 01:23:36 It's 8.45 in the morning. I might get one after work today. Why not? Literally brewed. Created in Coors Field. Nothing goes together better than beer in baseball. that Valencia orange peel is the difference maker. It's not just another beer.
Starting point is 01:23:55 It's a whole different experience. So, why don't you visit get. combear.com slash baseball to find blue moon delivery options. Get it delivered. Watch your team that you know better than us. And have a blue moon. Relax. Enjoy your evening, your afternoon, or wherever.
Starting point is 01:24:16 Celebrate responsibly. Blue Moon Brewing Co. Golden, Colorado. I got to get back out there. Really, you got a really nice facility out there. Me and Jess had a nice day. Blue Moon, go get yourself some. Stand, yeah,
Starting point is 01:24:32 I could have went so many different ways of this. I could have went Jared Schuster and his six-nings pitched one-and-run. We know what he's done. I could have went Framber, because Framber did Framber things. I was sticking with Texas. My guy, Corey Seeger, comes back.
Starting point is 01:24:50 has a good series but on Saturday three for four the double homer two runs driven in scored two runs you're adding gasoline
Starting point is 01:25:01 to a bonfire that's burning bright I love it I can't I mean you know how I used to feel about the Rangers organization right
Starting point is 01:25:11 I hated it I know you did they made some changes they went out and made some moves put themselves in a really nice position in a very difficult division. They're sitting at the top.
Starting point is 01:25:25 Corgi's Sear coming back is, you know, sometimes teams get out to a really good start and then they hit a lull. Not this team. They're off to a good start and then they add in Seeger right now. That's going to keep them off of that lull. Book it. I would have been surprised if, I know we just talked about the Astros
Starting point is 01:25:42 and they're coming, they're playing in Oakland and all this stuff. A Texas Bowl for the ALS is going to be a lot of fun. Please tell me they, I'm going to look it up right now as you go over your standout. I hope they play each other at the end of the year. I'm going to look that up right now. But Corey Seeger, shout out.
Starting point is 01:25:59 He's his stuff. Casual 382-455 for Seeger in his 15 games so far. And again, just one of those guys that, like, when he's out and playing, he is really good. And he just hits. And hey, you know what? My guy's kind of of a similar ilk, a team that I love. A little shout out to my guy, Jom, because he's John's favorite player to watch on another team.
Starting point is 01:26:26 I'm going with Cedric Mullins because he had a five-hit day at the office. Five for six. He sets the tone for those Orioles and what they do up there. He had a big RBI hit in extras. He now on the season, two-war player. He has an 876 OPEC. Yes, 13 steals, seven home runs. The guy is a ball of electricity,
Starting point is 01:26:59 whether he's hitting, running, or playing defense. And Cedric Mullins, kind of the, what is it, the straw that stirs the drink for your Baltimore Orioles. Interesting, okay, the straw that stirs the drink. Yeah. I like that. I love watching Cedric Mullins play. He can really do it all.
Starting point is 01:27:22 He's keeping the Orioles right where they need to be. And, you know, people were kind of wondering, he had his massive breakout 21. His 22 was a little more down to earth, and he's like in line with that 21 season where he was top 10 MVP guy. So if he's given you that and, you know, some other Orioles you might hear about later,
Starting point is 01:27:45 watch out. Texas ends with a four-game set at Seattle, before that they're in LA before that they play Seattle again they play Houston early in September and that'll be the end of their season series it's a little bit disappointing for me but the Texas Seattle thing could be
Starting point is 01:28:05 one could make the playoffs another couldn't like that'd be interesting anyways hit that music for the series we talked about Corey Seer he went seven for 13, three doubles, two homers, seven ribbies. Welcome back to the freaking show kid. Matt Olson, who had kind of been struggling, striking out a lot.
Starting point is 01:28:32 It was five for 11, three doubles, two homers, five ribbies, three runs and a walk. 1.7, no big deal. Leads the Braves with 13 homers, nice note, Dalton. Rizzo, five for 13, two homers, five ribbies, two runs scored for the one dot two. 24th Homer at Great American Ballpark, the second most by visiting player to my friend, Ryan Braun 28. The week of 515 through 521.
Starting point is 01:28:58 Waka for the Padres. Two great starts. 13 innings pitched. No runs. Six hits. 15Ks. Whoops. I'ma Condolario for the Washington Nationals.
Starting point is 01:29:08 Go 16 for 28 for the 571 average. Four dubs, two homers, five ribbies, 1.5. Mickey Moni, exalt in person. That was all over the dang place, man. Big hit. Six for 16.
Starting point is 01:29:20 Two doubles, a triple a homer. four ribbies. Like I said, defensively did it as well. For the two weeks, this is the guys that are real hot. Your boy, Morel. Yeah. Talk about feeling himself. He takes Daddy Hacks. 17 for 46.
Starting point is 01:29:36 Three doubles. Eight homers. Only 14 ribbyes in those eight homers. Can you guys get on base for this dude? 15 runs. 1.3. He's at a homer in four consecutive games, and has eight in his last 11. I think you referenced that. 16 homers and 11.
Starting point is 01:29:52 games for the Cubs last season as well. Tony Gonsolin. Dodgers need him to be good. He's been good. Three games started. He's two and one. 16 innings pitch. No earned runs. Three runs, but no Ernie's with 15Ks. Point 63 whip over three games started. And how about this for
Starting point is 01:30:10 the Cardinals? Jordan Hicks. This is nice for them. In five games, six and two-thirds innings pitch, no hits, no runs. Only three walks and 10Ks. They need that. Right. That should be you know, the back end of that Cardinals bullpen should be a strength. And I know it wasn't, but Hicks starting to go.
Starting point is 01:30:30 That gives an extra body. Gallegos has been good recently. So, um, good en fuego, Trev. I love More of that. And I love gonsolin, dude. Ridiculous. I ran into him on the elevator, like leaving the game as me, him and Muncie in the elevator as we're going to our cars.
Starting point is 01:30:49 And I'm talking to Muncie and like, you know, I'd know him. so it dappes me up. And I say, what's up to Tony? And he's like, looks at me. And I can't tell if he's trying to figure out who the fuck I am. Yeah. But, like, we had just, like, an awkward exchange. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:31:03 But I feel like maybe that's just Tony also. He's a starting pitcher. Yeah. He's a starting pitcher. That's what I'll say. Once he was like, yeah, I'm trying to figure things out. I'm like, bro, you just hit three homers. Like, you're, like, leading the stop.
Starting point is 01:31:18 Yeah. Gonsland had a baby stroll. Is that yours? He goes, no, it's, my brother-in-law. I'm like, oh, it's a nice present. We had an awkward exchange. It could have been my fault, too. That's awesome. Trev, our IL update that the people like, and I'm going to give the highlights, some big boys went on the aisle. We talked about the Padres, Manny Machado, on the IL. That's no bueno. Cody Bellinger for the Cubs, he was a guy we talked about a lot
Starting point is 01:31:48 early on this season. Jorge Polanco, like you mentioned, Ureas for the Dodgers, Clevenger for the White Sox. We didn't mention that. A couple big names came back. Cookie Carrasco for the Mets. Jose Altuve for Houston.
Starting point is 01:32:04 Nico Horner for the Cubbies. Jared Walsh for L.A. And my yanks, Luis Severino. He's another guy. Different scale as Corey Seeger. When Severino is on the field, he performs. So the Yankees and Severino
Starting point is 01:32:20 Just need to make sure he is on that field Trevor Plouf It brings us And awards are brought to you by the Blitzball Battle Go make sure you're checking out the Warehouse Games channel A Wild one last night A wild one If you're looking to grab on to train while it's running
Starting point is 01:32:42 I think we've had 60K people sub to the channel In the past two weeks or some It's been awesome And the product and the games are incredible So go check it out um drive you got your award yeah i got an award and before the show was trying to tie it into like year one
Starting point is 01:32:59 and we're like what happened in year one we're talking adam and eve and like was adam around for like a year before eve came around and ruined things or although adam did ask for her do we put all the blame on her i don't put a lot of the blame on eve i don't know if we do societally yes we'd i would have fucked up that apple you know what i'm saying the devil was like here take this apple
Starting point is 01:33:24 he has to be a little bit I would have grilled up the snake too yeah yeah for real give me some protein or something I don't know I did go to Catholic school for 12 years and I don't even really know how long Adam was by himself
Starting point is 01:33:40 but the year one thing didn't really work out but I will talk about somebody else who just finished their first year and that's Adley Rushman and I think I was laid on the train with that. A lot of people were talking about him as soon as he came up. I didn't like, I mean, it's not like I didn't like that he like took a look around when he first got. You know, he ran out and just like did like a 360 to like, you know, soak it in.
Starting point is 01:34:09 Like I like, I guess for him, like that's a great memory. He's always going to have that. And I kind of sound like a hater right now. But when he first did that, I was like, okay, I don't, I don't really know. It teetered the line. Get some dirt on your, get some dirt on your spikes, kid. he got dirt in his spikes. He got a lot of dirt and his spikes now. I'm going to shut up and adly do whatever you want because you have come into the league and firmly establish yourself
Starting point is 01:34:32 as one of the best catchers in baseball and probably one of the most important people to your team, relative to your team. He might be, he's like a top five important to your team guy. I believe the record now is 91 and 60. since Adley's come on. Before that, you know what the Orioles were doing? Losing.
Starting point is 01:35:00 Ain't shit. Adley comes on and has been incredible. Here's some numbers for you. 568 at bats, 3754 OBP, 815 OPS, 132 OPS plus, hit 20 homers, driven in 67. Not his fault that the numbers aren't up there. It's a really nice numbers for a catcher.
Starting point is 01:35:28 The thing that he's done more than anything, and I just talked to Gibby, you just sent me a long text. I said, tell me about Abley. Like, what's up with this guy? I said, is he... I didn't even mention this, but he said this. He's very, very good. He is calling the pitching,
Starting point is 01:35:41 and he's learning as much as he can and the advance meetings each time, so he's preparing, which I love. This is where it gets in. I don't know if Gibby wants me to share this, but I don't care, Gibby. I'm going to share it. Eat it, Gibby.
Starting point is 01:35:51 You knew I was going to share it. Take a run at me. I know this statement gets thrown around sometimes really quick on guys. If he stays healthy, I really think he's a sure Hall of Famer. That doesn't get thrown around that much, Gibby. I'm sorry, it doesn't. And the guys that it gets thrown around on, like they kind of deserve it.
Starting point is 01:36:12 They've done things that are extraordinary in their first years. So, Adley, one year in has just been a, a smashing success. He's turned the Orioles franchise around. He's proved me wrong. He has great numbers. He's a leader. And Gibby ended this off by saying part of his games are better than Joe Maurer. Not sure if you're able to win a batting title or hit 330, but he's got more power and does it from both sides. He's smooth behind the dish just like him and he's almost as nice of a guy I'm all in on Adley Rushman now you get a glowing review
Starting point is 01:36:57 like Gibby just gave me and Gibby would not bullshit I'm all in on Adley Rushman I guess I'm late to the train but sometimes that happens bro I hopped on shout out Adley one year in the show doing it very happy for him
Starting point is 01:37:13 Trev do you know what he has bold on his page for? Ooh I have it up I'm gonna guess I don't. 25-year-old Adley Rushman in his second season is leading the American League in walks. 38 walks, 30 strikeouts. He's got a 400 on base.
Starting point is 01:37:37 Yeah, Trev, when my dadley light went off, and I was like, oh, he's that guy, I almost started making a plan in my head to get him off the catching position because it just beats up your body so much. but he's an electric catcher. So while he's young and he can do it, and you mentioned Joe Mower, you know what? Go fucking be the dude and be the guy.
Starting point is 01:37:59 Very valuable. Because he is, and I don't, I've gone on rants about it. I don't think the catcher position has been fully quantified with Warren stuff when you have a good one. And Adley is that guy. And yeah, I think early this season, I said he's my one,
Starting point is 01:38:14 and that wasn't a shot at Real Mudo or Will Smith. That's just who I think this guy is. And yeah, man, but between what Cedric does up top and what this guy provides and all the other just, like, bludgeoners they have in this lineup, uh, it's a bird's year, man. 38 walks on the year, 30 strikeouts. If you want to get me excited. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:38:41 Talk to me like that. 95th percentile and whiff rate, 90 second and chase rate. He's getting the ball in the zone. If he's not in the zone, he ain't swinging. This guy is, he's real deal. And we got a shirt in our merch shop. Go check it out.
Starting point is 01:39:01 Adam Fraser been playing well of late. Analyze that later. J.P. Crawford's got an on-base streak going, I believe. Why did you just mention all that? What do you got? Why did you mention J.P. Crawford right there just because? It's our guy. He's our guy.
Starting point is 01:39:16 But I got to go because Chris Rose has already mad at me. You go. I'll give my award. I'll love you guys. That's all I got today. Love. I'm giving it my all. Right here. Right here.
Starting point is 01:39:31 See Wednesday. I don't know. Did Eve really mess it up? I don't know. Leave a comment. Sound off about Eve in the comments. I'm giving the don't wear fleece award. I feel like fleece in the 90s had a big phase.
Starting point is 01:39:50 and I don't think it's fully come back. You know, I see some people wear fleecy items, but I think there's a lot more materials now that people prefer above fleece. Yeah. Fleece, like, gets all over everything and stuff. When it comes to trades, we always get excited for the fleece, right?
Starting point is 01:40:08 We want to rip the other team off and, oh, look what we got. Your prospects sucked, and we got this dude. Ha-ha, or vice versa. I think Jolly Olive just did a video on some of the bigger trades that did or didn't work out in your team's favors. This one has been one of the most beautiful, and you've probably heard the tenor in me and Jim's voice.
Starting point is 01:40:34 Like, don't trade with the raise ever because they will win the trade. You've already lost the trade. Yeah, if you've committed the trade, there's a chance you've already lost. I mean, Randy or Rosa Rana, what he's been doing. You go up and down the board with a lot of these guys. And they've gotten a lot of love for Drew Rasmussen, who, by the way, has been incredible, has been a stud pitcher for them.
Starting point is 01:41:01 I know he just got banged up. But he's been really, really good. On the other side of that trade was Willie Adomis. And you guys know by now, if you've listened to talking baseball, how much we love Willie Adomas. And he's gone off to a little bit of a slow start this season. I think he's going to go, and I think part of why he will go in that final game against the race, again, Willie Damos was on the raise.
Starting point is 01:41:27 He famously couldn't see with their backdrop, and he was open about that, and ever since he's gone to Milwaukee, he's been really good, and he's led the team. He's led the team in basically every offensive category, since he's gone over there. Home runs, RBI, hits, doubles, walks, runs, game played. And when he homered,
Starting point is 01:41:57 it was the anniversary of their trade. The Rasmussen, Willie Adama's trade, and he told Randy before the game that he was going to homer and hit Randy with his crossed arm celebration. And he did. So in baseball, I think we're always looking for sparks to maybe get guys' seasons going.
Starting point is 01:42:21 We just talked about it with the Mets a lot. Don't be surprised if Willie Adomis is on our Enfuego list in a couple weeks, because if you can think like that, if you can say this is the two-year anniversary of the trade, I'm going to hit a homer and then I'll hit my boy Randy with his signature move. I mean, you're a guy guy for me. And, you know, we've come across him briefly a couple times, and as electric and as good of a personality as you'll come across in baseball. So a little brew crew love at the end of this Monday episode,
Starting point is 01:42:54 and I hope Willie gets hot for Brew crew fans and all of baseball. So big episode for our Adam and Eve fans. Oh, they loved today's episode. We don't normally take care of them. Or they hated it. Yeah, we will be back the midweek with the Jombino, with Trevor, with Davis, and myself I'll see you guys next time
