Hello and welcome to Talking Baseball.
It was walk-off weekend.
Both Wests are killing it.
I thought we were in East Coast Pot.
Tons of walk-offs, tons of good ball.
Coach Trev is here.
Seth Lugo.
We know it's G-now.
Four homers.
Hello and welcome.
Four homers and taking the loss.
That's kind of me and Trev combined.
Welcome to Talking Baseball.
Present you by Seeky Code Talk in 2025.
Jake Storrelli, Trevor Plouf, Rob Shirachi.
We are talking ball.
It was a massive weekend.
I had one of my biggest baseball weekends of the year.
Yanks got rained out Saturday.
So I kind of had that pivot point of like, well, should I do other stuff?
Should I take care of my life?
What do I need to do?
It was raining.
So I'm not entering the big, bad world out there.
I'm watching ball.
Okay.
And it was a great weekend to do it.
I mentioned it briefly.
I don't want to get in the way of your stuff.
standings, both Wests, four teams, 500 and up, and you're out on the West Coast. How are you?
I am out on the West Coast. It's beautiful out here. I'm doing great. Monday episodes are the best.
We have so much to talk about. Yeah, some crazy individual performances, some teams
finding out what works for them. Hello, Seattle Mariners in your home runs. It's just good to be here talking ball with you and all of our beautiful
talking baseball listeners.
You know I was out there at the Dodger game on Friday,
so I was boots on the ground.
I can't wait to get into it with you, Pop.
Wow.
Sideline reporter Trevor Plouffe.
Me and Cuts just talking back and forth during the game.
He's like, man, that split her from Yamato's nasty.
I'm like, I know.
I don't know, but I know.
I don't know.
There's a bunch of scoreless pitcher streaks this week.
Yamamoto, Senga, Hunter Brown.
I'm leaving someone else. I'll remember in a little bit.
And you can go watch one of these streaks or whatever you want,
just like Treve did, as long as you use Seat Geek Code Talking 20, 25.
The MLB season's rolling.
I mean, football's out for a bit.
They had a big weekend, but that's out.
See them later.
NBA and NHL playoffs are rolling on, and there were some great games.
So if you're trying to go to one of those, that's fine.
That's an excuse for a night.
But code talking 2025, whether you're going to use it now or later, 10% off at Seat Geek,
go check them out whether you've used the code with us before or not.
It doesn't matter.
Save yourself.
You're listening to Talking Baseball.
You're going to go to a game.
Check out code talking 2025.
Let's do it.
Let's do a little American League, huh?
And I think one of the featured teams of this episode,
your Detroit Tigers bust out the broomsticks on the Baltimore Orioles.
It's getting late early for Baltimore, opposite for Detroit.
Javi Baez just contributes.
I saw a note in here, they chose to not pitch around Spencer Torkelson.
What if I told Tiger fans that before the season, and then, oh yeah, they go scuba diving.
The Tigers, it's feeling like 1911 with a lot of these stats.
Best home record since then.
My Yanks take two out of three from the Toronto Blue Jays.
We've got a closer out.
Devin Williams, Captain America.
Uh-oh.
He blows the first game and loses his job.
Yanks come back on double header day.
Not Gossman around, kind of.
And then they get Bassett late to take two out of three.
So do the Boston Red Sox, kid.
They take two out of three from the guard dogs.
After dropping the first game and kind of dropping it early,
it was all socks the rest of the way.
Christian Campbell is that guy.
OPS in the 8th.
Jaron, with a couple big games,
and he has the masses behind him.
If you're that jerk in Cleveland, we're coming for you.
I'm a knock you out.
I don't know if we could say that.
Houston, they played Kansas City.
And how about the Royals taking two out of three?
Two shut pieces.
old men. Lugo and Waka. These are guys Trev played against.
Get them on, get them over, bring them home.
That's Royals offensive baseball. 2-2-0 shutouts.
They couldn't outlast Hunter Brown in that last game as Houston gets a win.
The Minnesota Twins sweep the Angels, the Trevor Plouffe Bowl this season.
His Angels versus his twins. Twins, a little bit of positive momentum,
including only allowing one run in those final two games.
Joe Ryan, hot.
We haven't talked about that enough this year.
Too much losing.
Joe Ryan's still hot.
Seattle Mariners!
Do we need to talk about them more?
I don't know about their Marlin series,
but they take two out of three.
And they survive Augustine Ramirez.
My goodness.
You like catchers with pop.
Go check out the young man in Miami.
But it was a lot of Mariners.
Baseball.
Tito, Polo.
Tito.
Alonco, have yourself a weekend.
You know there's a big dumper.
You know J.P. Crawford, as we always discuss.
And those Sacramento A's?
Just the A's, we say.
They take two out of three from the White Sox.
White Sox went opener in every game.
I love it.
Let's get weird, baby.
A's, they do not care.
Luis Urias with the walkoff.
Remember?
Jacob Wilson with a couple big days at the office.
so fun. And I believe
Trev's going to give you the standings, and I think
the A's are at 500
right now. That's what happened in the
American League. Excellent job.
You got me a few times, actually, in that.
I'm here. Well, dude, there's so many
Tigers 1911 stats
on our page. I was like, what's going?
No one's
into that anymore. They're dead. Oh, man.
There's like, you know, old jokes are fun
sometimes, but they're kind of played out.
Like, I can't call C-Rose old anymore.
Do you want the standings? I need them.
every time.
In the American League East, your Yanks.
Still on top of the division.
Two games above the Red Sox, the Yanks are 17 and 11.
The Red Sox, 16 and 14.
The Rays are playing a lot better ball as of late.
We'll get into that.
They're 14 and 14.
Toronto, 13 and 15, four games back, you Yanks.
And then, as you mentioned, pre-fallen birds.
They have wings, but they ain't using them right now, Jake.
10 and 17, bottom of the division in the central.
The Tigers, man, what a miss for me early on in the preseason talking about the Tigers.
They're 18 and 10, two and a half games ahead of the guard dogs who just find ways to win games.
15 and 12 for them.
Kansas City Royals 14 and 15.
Minnesota, they had the homestand that they needed to have.
They're still sitting at 12 and 16, but it seems like Rocco Baldelli's job is safe.
And the White Sox, 7 and 21.
They're just happy the Rockies exist.
And then out west, as you mentioned, Seattle, on top of the division, 16 and 12,
the Rangers 15 and 13, Houston 14 and 13.
The A's at 500, 14 and 14.
And then the Angels after getting swept by my twins are at 12 and 15.
And those are the standings in the American League.
Thank you, Trevor.
Yeah, April 28th, last show, last recap,
show for us in April.
I am laughing at all the teams really hovering around 500, like that.
That 15 and 14 month hits a little differently than 14 and 15.
There's going to be a couple teams coming up against that.
Trev, let's start out with the Tigres.
It's also starting out with the Orioles, if we're being honest.
And you and I are excited.
There's more Tigers coming later this episode from both of us,
and it's the pitching run prevention with a little bit of star power and juice
that has these tigers entering that territory we've seen from a lot of central teams
in previous years are successful central teams.
It's run prevention along with Torkelson taking off
and Kerry Carpenter living up to whatever his baseball card is
with other guys contributing that the tigers look really good.
they do and again i i missed preseason with them i i was worried about the starting pitching i thought
there was some question marks there i knew the bullpen was me good and then the offense to me was
like you know they have to pitch the ball to win games but they've had guys step up as you talked about
i'm going to get to a few of those guys later on in the episode one guy that i think we have to talk about
who i'm actually not getting into later is hobby bias he's contributing jake he's got the third
highest war amongst position players on the Tigers.
He's hitting 300.
No power.
Like basically all singles.
But in this series,
you know,
he gets a few big knocks.
Like that,
like that and the guys I'm going to talk about later are the reason.
That's the reason that the tigers are doing what they're doing.
Because they don't have to score a ton of runs, Jake.
I mean,
they've been bawling out.
Scoobes has been great.
Flaherty's been great.
Like everybody in that staff has been great.
Even my guy,
Cater, coming up as a 26 man or 27th man now,
isn't it?
He pitched well.
So they know how to do that,
but they're getting contributions offensively
from guys who prior to this year, Jake,
you probably couldn't buy into too much.
And that's been their recipe.
We've highlighted Zach McKinstree a few episodes this year.
Torkelson has been one of the biggest problems
in the American League.
Riley Green in game two,
some of the defensive highlights he was putting together in left field,
which I know some of the baseball nerds were wondering,
you know, kind of the defensive metrics for him weren't,
the math wasn't math in a little bit.
Center field are moving to a big left field,
and is there anything weird there?
He made some great plays that kept them alive in that game.
Will Vest out of the bullpen, lefties, Ofer, so that's tough.
And, yeah, that Tigers' best record in the AL right now,
18 and 10, that's their best record since 2014.
Those Tiger teams were, had a little bit of,
a different fear factor.
And 13 and 3 at home this year.
Detroit's best home start since 1911.
1911, that 12 and 0 start that people were talking about before the Titanic.
I guess anything else Tigers drive or, I mean, the other side of this is really the Orioles.
I mean, the yellow flag might have turned to a red flag.
Like we're going to end this month very poorly.
The pitching continues to be brutal.
that the wheels are falling off.
Everything's gone wrong for the Orioles.
One more note on the Tigers,
since August 11th was kind of where they had their, quote unquote,
surge.
Since then, last year, August 11, 2024,
they're 48 and 23.
Nobody has a better record in all of baseball than the Tigers.
And contrasted that, going into Sunday,
of 2024, the Orioles were 16 and 9.
and they were rocking and rolling, Jake,
and we were talking about them being one of the future teams in baseball,
and now here they sit at the bottom of the division.
They have the worst ERA in baseball.
They haven't hit in the week.
Everything is going wrong for them,
and it showed up in this series as the Tigers take all three games.
Crazy, man.
Offensively, Cedric's the only one putting together a season, really.
They can't hit lefties at all.
Just weird.
I don't know.
I mean, we're getting close to players-only meeting.
We're getting close to something.
Or Trev, maybe the solution is Kyle Gibson getting the start on Tuesday night,
the start that saves the season.
They'll face the Yankees, who the Yankees on their best day.
They're still knocking the ball around the yard.
Maybe panic time in Baltimore.
the opposite for the Detroit Tigers.
Treve, do you have anything about Yankees Blue Jays?
Again, I guess Devin Williams, even Class A, got an eighth inning this weekend.
So I guess I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Devin Williams situation.
Otherwise, for me, I mean, Yankees won both games of a doubleheader, which took the series.
Yeah, the Devin Williams is interesting.
Obviously, I kind of want to start with Luke Weaver, because he's been through this before last year,
waited to have his shot at the closer roll,
does really well,
then in the off season,
loses his job,
which is crazy.
But Williams,
to me,
I've mentioned a couple times to Jimmy,
actually,
because him and I go back and forth,
and we see,
like,
a tip or maybe,
you know,
a catcher doing something,
we kind of,
like,
bounce it off each other.
I know he's deep in the weeds
on all that stuff.
He likes to get my opinion on it.
I thought for a few times I had,
Devin Williams pitches,
you know,
that goes back into even last year with the Brewers,
but this year was more like,
Wells and how he was setting up and where he was setting up and all those things.
Those aren't exactly,
I could only get it like 70% of the time.
So I don't know if teams are doing that.
I don't know.
To me,
it could be a little bit of both because when I watched,
when I watched him this year,
the fastball was nobody was worried about the fastball and it was over the plate a ton.
It didn't seem like guys were like sitting on the change up,
but it just,
it was either a ball out of the hand or it was up and
sitting up for people to hit. He just,
nothing has looked right. He said even
even so after
one of the games this series where
nothing's working.
And
you know, whether he needs just some time,
whether it's a Yankees thing, he's feeling
the pressure, I really don't know.
His stuff doesn't look great. There's a few
times where I thought I had his pitches and the
results aren't there. And I mean, that's how you
lose the job.
It's been tough to watch. It's been
odd to watch. It doesn't feel like
the same guy. So hopefully that's what Yankee fans can look back on and say come June when he
does look like Devin Williams. But yeah, I mean, you know how Yankee fans can get about a closer.
Hello, Clay. And now with how good Luke Weaver's been, that was, it was part of the combo last
year. Who did they turn to? And he was closing out games in the postseason and he looked amazing.
So for the first place, Yanks, a pretty crazy situation. And I think you guys pointed this out,
quicker hook this year than last year.
So Aaron Boone,
kudos to you,
kind of like learning,
I guess,
from your past mistakes.
This is a team that obviously
has high aspirations
and you can't be bowling games
at the end like that.
So good for him.
Also the...
And we're rooting for you, Devin.
Like, this is not like a,
let's shit on Devin Williams show.
Like,
you want this guy to be good.
Go figure some stuff out, man.
You know,
you meant the clay situation,
the quicker hook.
The Yankees also said
there was a lot of bad luck
around their defense.
How'd that go in the World Series?
Blue Jays, lost seven of their last date.
He got off to a good start.
One of those, if they could sneak a couple April wins,
the month could feel a lot better.
Tontander has got to figure it out.
Got to figure it out.
Jimenez, I think you're going to hear him in a bad way later.
Sox guards, I mentioned Class A.
He pitched a strong eighth inning,
and vote came out and was like, hey, he'll be back.
He looked like Emmanuel Class A today.
The story is more so the Red T's.
Sox the sticks come alive,
Duran with a couple of three plus hit games back to back.
I mentioned Christian Campbell on the way through.
The Divers Homer was a pretty one.
So Trev,
I mean,
I'd love to talk a little baseball here,
what you saw in this series.
And if you've got anything on the Duran situation,
which I think we have a pretty standard,
that guy in the crowd situation.
That's pretty much, yeah.
No, I think some of this are,
the Red Sox,
this is who,
They can be as a team.
You know, they can beat you in a bunch of different ways.
You know, the offense blew up.
Duran had a great series.
We're watching the steal of home right now, which was awesome.
Everybody fired up right there.
You see Cora getting crazy as well.
You know, the Red Sox had a chance to sweep.
They get three nothing in the first game.
Will you're brave?
It's a home.
Or say, hey, it's a great way to start the series then.
By the end of the first, they were behind.
So a good job on the Guardians doing that.
It's kind of what they do.
But yeah, this is more of Red Sox offense, getting the job done against, you know, Cleveland's pitching staff.
Sox 9 and 3 in their last 12.
They are starting to click.
There's a lot of guys in that lineup that can get you on a given day.
I mean, if you put a lefty out there against Rob Reff Snyder, you're a goddamn fool.
Rafael with a big game in that final one.
And I really like Christian Campbell.
That kid's, he good.
A little uncharacteristically bad defense by the guard dogs and that doubleheader.
So, you know, Red Sox taking advantage with that like this should.
Good.
Kansas City Royals, Treve.
Throw that pill.
Some, you know, you know, we're hitters.
We're natural-born hitters.
It's what the good Lord gave to us.
But Lugo and Waka combined 14 innings, zero-earned runs.
a Kansas City offense that's been scuffling.
I was laughing, rewatching one of the game,
even their broadcaster dropped the class of we're getting them on,
we're getting them over, we're getting them in.
Sometimes, hey, if you have the other team,
if you're holding the other team to zeros, that can work.
And man, really, Kansas City trying to finish this month,
not having a bad look to it.
Very big weekend set for them.
they need to figure it out offensively.
I mean,
they won this series
behind a couple of strong pitching performances,
but they scored seven runs in three games.
Their team OPS is 616.
That's only above the White Sox.
The slash line is,
you hear 616, it's bad,
but the slash line,
to me even sounds worse.
289 on base,
327 slug.
Like,
it's not a sustainable,
you know,
formula for the Royals,
you know.
So they,
offensively does that mean they got to bring up Caglione probably
they just they have to do something to spark that club
I think we talked about that last episode
about timing and when is it a good time to bring up a prospect
but they have to do something because you can't
you can't offensively be on par with the White Sox
and expect to compete. God and what in 2020?
What would those offensive stats be without Bobby Witt
who's got a 19 game hit streak going?
Hey, great Royals,
pitching Houston, Aspada flipping the lineup a little bit.
Again, is it a weekend versus the Royals?
Their offense hasn't gone yet.
Like a lot of names we like on that team, but they haven't clicked yet,
which again, you can still do half glass full, half glass empty.
And Hunter Brown, 28 innings, scoreless street.
It seems like the Astros are just like on the precipice of taking off.
It does.
I always, you know, I've discounted them pretty much throughout the entire.
season, but when you're, they're still able to do everything on the baseball field.
Yes.
Yes.
So are your twins, Trev.
They take down the big, bad angels.
What do the people need to know?
They needed this homestand in the worst way.
Last year, they started up poorly as well.
Then they faced the White Sox and the Angels like seven out of 12 times.
And they went on a 12-game winning streak.
That's what got them back into the season.
Same exact scenario here.
dead in the water. I mean, 12 and 16 isn't great, but I believe they went five and six on the
homestead. Rocco Bell Deli's was on the hot seat. They needed to do this. I think if they came
out of that homestand three and three, like he's probably fuck here. No. I don't know that for sure.
I haven't talked to anybody about. I'm being serious, man. It was so, it's been bad in Minnesota.
The attendance is way down. But, you know, a nice performance here. Joe Ryan with a huge
game on game three seven in his pitch 11k's he had a nasty
pitching ninja had his nasty sweeper on man
and you mentioned he's hot forgot how hot Joe Ryan is
winning's hot that's what people forget
winning's hot
and the twins haven't been I mean they still aren't playing great
baseball but hey man they ran into their right teams
at the right time I forgot about last year
that was so they were dead in the water
and then they got that wind streak
Yeah, that Joe Ryan sweeper, I don't
You would love Joe Ryan.
I don't know.
Me and Joe Ryan are boys.
Are you kidding?
We're kind of.
We're IG friends.
We hung out on the Yankee game you were at.
Yeah, yeah.
We're both kind of hot boys in our own different ways.
It's a non-compete.
Speaking to non-compete, well, no.
The Mariners and Marlins,
we should give the Mariners a little bit of love.
They are on top of the AL West.
They handle the Marlins, which, you know, not the most impressive series win,
although they added a little juice with Augustine Ramirez,
who, yo, some crazy extra base hit.
Hey, Mariners' offense, had a big weekend, and this is what we always harp on,
Polanco, Crawford, Julio, you got a guy later that I'm,
I can't wait to hear what you're going to say about Ben Williams.
That's right, baby.
I got some Mariners hitting stats
and what has been the formula for the
Mariners to get wins Jake? It's just
hitting the ball like a little bit.
Scoring four runs.
That's it.
Since the start
of play on April 9th
the Mariners have an 11 and 4 record
that's the best in the big leagues.
They've also hit 16 more home runs
than their opponents in that time.
So their plus 16 home run
differential is the best in the big
leagues during that
span. And how about this? We talk about scoring runs. They're only second to the Yankees and runs per
game this season with 4.85. And they're in first place. I mean, we're doing it. Polanco's doing it.
We're getting the offense that we need for the Mariners. I hope it continues. This could be a very,
very fun team to watch. Yes, shout up Ben Williamson, more on you later.
More on you later. Man, that OPS plus is for Seattle. I'm looking at every spot, except
second base in the positive right now,
and that doesn't count Dylan Moore.
I knew you were going to say Dylan Moore.
You are in love.
I wanted the Yanks to trade for him before the season.
I got receipts.
But I'm happy for Dylan Moore.
Are you happy for Augustine?
Augustine, former Yankees farmhand.
We'll probably talk about him a little later,
but watching him swing the bat.
A little helicopter.
There's a little Chris Morel in that,
and the way he just absolutely
tries to obliterate the baseball,
the swing speed is there,
you know,
talking or reading up on him a little bit.
The Marlins' like front office
and even McCullough was talking about how like all this stuff has been here.
Like,
you know,
the bat speed has been there,
the exit velo,
the quality of contact.
They knew was going to be good,
but you bring a guy up to the big leads,
you kind of never know what you're going to get.
He's got off to one of the best starts like ever.
Yeah.
And is it sustainable?
I mean, the metrics will say yes.
The big leagues will probably tell you, you know,
pump the brakes a little bit.
But he's been a ton of fun to watch.
The power feels real.
Are we watching Dylan Moore highlights right now?
No, that's not.
Okay.
It's so small on my screen.
I'm sorry.
So small.
Anything on A's White Sox, Trev.
A's are 500.
Again, talk about finishing the month strong.
Luis Urius.
That's a good baseball.
reference if you're having a geeky baseball Monday to be like, wait, he's 28.
Never really bad at playing baseball.
I wonder if he can get a little bit of juice.
Otherwise, Jacob Wilson is the juice.
I love that guy, man.
I have to actually hold back from talking about him every single episode.
It's just a fun batting stance and it's working a lot right now.
And there's no need to walk.
Why would you walk?
Yeah, what?
Base hits the same as a walk.
Let's do some National League baseball.
Who's it brought to us by Bobo?
It's brought to us by Corona.
Come on.
Want to know what we love the most about baseball.
It's kicking back,
ordering some coronas and enjoying the ride.
I might have did a little bit of this weekend.
From the moment, y'all bail on work for opening day.
I was there.
Riggily.
What a time.
Go check out the vlog.
To the last play of the World Series.
It's the one sport where anything can happen.
A team can catch fire, go on a run and go to the promised land.
We're baseball folk, man, and there's nothing quite like enjoying the game,
relaxing, leaving the day behind you, not worrying about tomorrow yet.
And you're on your own private island with some ice cold coronas.
The official survey of Major League Baseball, crack open a corona,
squeeze in a lime and enjoy America's favorite pastime with Mexico's favorite pastime.
Get yours at order corona.com.
21 plus.
Enjoy responsibly.
Corona extra beer imported by Crown imports.
Chicago, Illinois.
Let's do some NL, baby.
Are the Braves hot?
Or are the snakes snake bitten?
I feel like every Diamondback series is rinse, repeat,
of they should win this series,
but they don't.
Gino!
Four homer game in a loss.
Braves take the first two.
Chris Sale,
his first good outing of the year.
They needed that.
Alex Verdugo is leading off for these Braves,
and he's putting together a couple big games.
Brandon Fott salvages the series for the snakes.
Braves winning series.
That's important.
The Phillies take down the big bad cubbies.
After the cubbies shut them out in that first game,
the Phillies come back, including Sunday night baseball,
Aaron Nola.
Boy, did he need a good one.
And baby Jesus, that's all he's been doing.
The Nationals and the Mets, they're going to wrap it up Monday.
So far, the Nats have taken two out of three,
and the last one was in dramatic fashion.
Seven one lead for the Mets.
Blow it.
Ball lands in front of Sotom.
I don't know.
There was a lot of other stuff going on.
What a comeback by the Nationals.
Let's see how the series wraps up today.
Clay Holmes and the Mets shut them out in that second one.
Jake Irvin, really good.
Cardinals, take two out of three from the Brewers.
Nolan Aeronado, my heart beats.
One of the better defensive highlights of the year.
Walk off Homer in the next game.
Brewers, King Dona wins in that final one.
Man, fun to watch Nolan this weekend.
It was fun to watch the Tampa Bay raise unless you are a Padres fan.
They gave the Padres a little bit of a case of the can't hit them.
Shane, Wizard of Boss shoves on him.
Pepio.
Zach Lattel.
He's his first dub in a long time.
Padres don't put more than two in a game across the race.
Sweep them.
Oh, boy, San Diego.
What's going on, baby?
Dodgers take two out of three.
They got skeins.
Trev knows because he was there.
Skeen's Yamamoto.
Otherwise, it was Dodgers the rest of the way.
I mean, this is both of these teams in a nutshell.
Pirates win skein days.
Dodgers win the next two.
Watch out for the.
Hernandez boys. A couple big homers in that second game. The San Francisco Giants, after getting
shut out by Nate Doggivaldi in the first game, they win three to two on Brandon Crawford Day in
San Francisco. Patrick Bailey with the walkoff. And then Elliot Ramos, they win three to two on the
Little League walkoff. Cannot wait to watch that one with coach, because it might raise his blood pressure.
and my Reds, check out where they are in the NL Central.
They sweep the Rockies, an 87 first course game for sure.
And then the Reds, Austin Hayes, have a weekend, baby, Reds?
Let's see where they are in the standings.
That's what happened in the NL.
Jordan Beck, Homer Street.
I'm done.
Some guy was yelling at us to talk about the Nationals on social media.
We'll do it.
We're going to talk about you.
My goodness.
But I do it.
of the standings in the National League. I'm going to start out east, as I always do,
where the Mets, another miss on my behalf preseason. 19 and 9, four games above the Phillies,
who are 15 and 13 and 13. The Nats sitting at 13 and 15, Atlanta climbing slowly,
12 and 15, same record as the Miami Marlins, who are also 12 and 15. In the central,
this is what you wanted me to talk about, Jakey Boy, the Cubs, 17 and 12, the Cincinnati
Reds, two games over 500, only a game and a half back at 15 and 13. Milwaukee, one game
under 500 right now, 14 and 15, the card dogs.
Can I call them?
I say that.
Interested?
Definitely not.
Card dogs?
I like it for us.
I just made that up on the fly, 12 and 16, and then the pirates, 11 and 18.
Then out west, the San Francisco Giants are on top of the division.
We talked to the Dodgers having the best.
roster of all time.
The Giants don't care about that.
They're 19 and 10.
The Dodgers half game back, 18 and 10.
The Padre is 17 and 11.
The Diamondbacks, 15 and 13.
Then, oh my goodness.
The Colorado Rockies have won four games this season.
They're four and 23.
They're already 14 games back at first place.
It's not your year this year.
Treve, not your year.
Talking baseball listeners, no.
Well, hey, we need a salary cap, though.
Come on, Monfort.
Jeez.
You guys know your team better than us.
And comment below what we're missing,
who we need to be talking about more, all of that.
The real talking baseball people know,
Denver's always going to have a sweet spot in my heart.
Live there for a chunk of years, beautiful place.
I started making jokes about the Rockies become my retirement job.
I might have to speed things up.
Because we're not doing it right.
Clint hurdles the hitting
players on the team. There's some good players
on the team. Not doing this. Great standings, Trev.
Not doing that right now. Go Reds go.
All right.
This was meaty. The NL was meaty.
No, I'm all flustered.
I want to give a quick shout out
to Silas Fire and Pablo Armando
for subscribing to the Jam's Substack website.
Go to JohnboyMedia.com
for more exclusive Johnboy media content.
Trev, let's chew through it, baby.
And it starts with one of the best performances of the year,
but unfortunately it comes for a loss for the team
and a loss in the series.
Eohenio Suarez, four homer game,
first one since 2017.
The last one ties it?
Like, how badass is that?
And the snakes lose, man.
they've been getting hurt by their bullpen.
It feels like every series.
And meanwhile,
your Braves, Trev,
starting to win some series,
starting to win some games,
get on the right track.
And it was kind of the time of the month
they needed to,
otherwise it was going to be a horrible month for them.
Yeah, I mean, this was a fun series to watch.
I mean, game two was kind of like the deciding game.
It really mattered.
I mean, the first game sailed and the Braves pitched really well.
well, held the Diamondbacks down, and then the game three, you know,
Naylor had a huge double to extend the lead to three.
They ended up in that game.
But this game two is what we're talking about here.
You mentioned, uh, Eugenio, our guy, we know it's Gino, four bombs.
Um, but the Braves, man, like they just, they kept applying the pressure.
Albies and Michael Harris gets to the bullpen, uh, Harris Burns Thomas, lefty, lefty
matchup.
Got to love that.
I think that the bad of the game, though, that really, because the snakes were obviously up,
Gino put him up.
The bat of the game for me was our guy, Eli White.
Hitting his homer, two-run shot in the seventh.
So he got that from 6 to 2 to 6 to 4.
Now you're in striking distance,
and the Bra is able to come away with the extra inning win right there.
But yeah, they've been playing well.
They've been getting a huge performance by, you know,
Sean Murphy, up and down the lineup.
They've just been performing better as of late.
And, you know, they've been pitching well enough.
It was a great series.
You mentioned that the Diamondbacks, it does kind of feel like they continue to lose games they can win.
They have like four extra ending losses over the last week or so.
It's been rough if you're a Diamondbacks fan because you've been that close.
Yeah, you're in that competitive NL West.
Every game matters.
It's not that time of year, but in a way it is.
And they've kind of been the low man on the totem pole of those NLS teams between the Dodgers just.
trudging along and being the Dodgers,
the Padres who had the best start to the season,
and now the San Francisco Giants,
who are rolling,
second best record in the National League,
that, yeah, that bullpen was part of the issue last year,
and they're definitely feeling it again outside.
Shelby Miller's 11th scoreless outinges, outings?
Braves, Sean Murphy, man,
that might get my eyes looked at.
seven homers and 15 games at one stretch there.
And that's the thing.
Saying that for the Braves,
if they want to do this,
you need dudes to do it.
And I'm glad you shout out Eli White.
He's showing up in a lot of box scores.
So is Alex Verdugo.
I was going to say Alex Verdugo coming in and filling in very nicely.
Brazy.
Let's keep it east.
Let's chew through it.
Phillies,
they take two out of three from the Cubbies.
After getting shut out that first game and the Cubs,
I mean,
if we recorded Friday night,
Cubs probably lead the episode.
It's kind of where I left the people on Friday
with that outfield thing that a lot of the true talking baseball people got
about dating the Cubs outfield.
Some people didn't. Good.
Don't need you.
Philly bounces back.
Lazzardo and Nola lead the way on the bump.
Yeah, Lazzardo and Nola were the, you know, stars of this series.
Shout out Pete Cromstrung in that first game.
You know, Philly gets shut out.
But Pete, he's been doing it all over the field.
homers extra base hits safety squeeze in this game got my juices going you know I love that
give me a guy that can do it all this guy he's this year's jaron Duran like he's going to put up
like a seven war season and who knows what this guy's going to pay it I love them people really
loved our segment about who you're going to let your daughter date yeah most people said
Ian Hap obviously it's just everybody knows that cloth and the turtleneck it's too much
much. And then, you know, Philly's offense showed up. Going into Saturdays game, they
scored 13 runs in the last five games, and then here we go. They scored 10 in that one,
and then they get the extra inning win on Sunday, a little boom and Turner and extras.
And the Philly needed this one. They needed this one. And just something that made my head
tilt a little bit, because we, you know, a lot of stuff blurs together. Cubs 1811.
through the first 29 games last year.
And then things really went south for them.
They were under 500 by the end of May, nine games below by July 3rd.
Cubs fans, I'm sure you guys remember, but, okay, Cubs, you got the good start again.
Let's keep it rolling, and it feels like it's going to,
because they are so talented.
Good for the Philly.
Philly's needed a little more.
It was hilarious listening to PCA miced up on the,
it's like it wasn't a great inning.
There was a triple down the line.
He's like, oh, crap.
And then when Miguel Amaya threw whoever was out at second base,
you can hear him say, oh, great throw, McGee.
Like, it's, I like that.
Right.
That's kind of what Mike Dup's supposed to be.
You have the right person.
You have to have the right person on there,
but I thought that was really good.
New York Mets, Treve.
Again, this series is going to wrap up.
I want to shout out Jake Irvin for another seven.
7.1, one-earned run. He's been one of the best pitchers in baseball this year. James Wood with the walkoff in that first game.
Yesterday's comeback. A little Mets aided to start. I'll give credit to the Nats because I don't want it to be attacking the Mets thing. But seven to one Mets, best record in baseball. Here we go. Win streak. And then it's out after that. Tough, brutal.
I want to get to the third game.
I want to talk about game one first.
I do want to give the National some credit.
Bobby, while I'm talking about this,
can you please get up Riley Adams, Homer in game three?
I want to hear the call.
I just have that on the ready.
Okay, it's pretty funny.
We get the triple play in the first game,
confusing for everybody.
Not sure if we caught the ball at first there
with our guy Nathaniel,
but they end up getting that.
And then Dylan Cruz has been playing really well.
makes a really bad decision.
Base is loaded, kind of flare into right field, tries to die for it.
Mark Vientos ends up getting a base clearing triple to get them in the lead there.
But then he ignites the rally.
So shadowed Dillon Cruz for not letting that affect him.
And then the way they won the first game, James Wood hits this ball.
McNeil probably could have dough for it, knocked it down.
He ends up just slowing the ball down.
And C.J. Abrams, this is why I love speed because it doesn't slump.
He scores from first base.
Yeah.
On a ground ball that should have been knocked down, dude.
So you have to love that if you're a nat span.
That's an exciting baseball.
And I think Bobbo's got the home run call that I was talking about.
Riley Adams is only a second hit of the year, a three-run brahm to cut the lead play at Bobbo.
I was like, what?
That's something you would say.
I know.
And he did, by the way.
Like, that's a deep part.
That's a deep part of the ballpark.
I did not think that ball was gone at first.
Through both cheeks into it.
And then another, I guess, speed play wins the game.
Pete, with just a tough throw to Stanick there on game three of this series.
I think he did the right thing.
You know, people are probably going to say you got to wait for him to get to the bag
and throw to the bag.
But really, when you're doing PFPs and you're a first baseman,
there's that like, you know, like a football pass, I like to call, like a route.
you do want to get him the ball early
you want to get him the ball before he gets to the base
so he can get his feet there
and Pete just kind of zoos it
it's a very difficult play
it looks like you know
little league baseball and oh he can't make that
that's not an easy play like a little pass pattern
he short-armed it a little bit
Stan it couldn't get to it but good for the Nats man
yeah I guess
for the Mets who are having the best start to this season
I think it just, you know, some of their guys out there playing defense.
Pete, McNeil, Soto, not their strength.
You know, two of the guys I mentioned can be two of the best hitters in baseball
and McNeil's won a batting title.
So I don't think there's any panic.
I mean, the Mets are probably, if I'm a Mets fan, I'm looking at this, like, you know,
we should be on like a 10-game win streak by now.
But we kind of zooed two of these games.
You don't like seeing the defense like that, though.
No.
Because you felt like you feel like you've been doing everything perfectly throughout.
You've been throwing the ball.
You've been hitting.
And you know, as a Yankee fan from last year, defense can really hurt you.
It did this series.
Yeah.
So like, you know, I'm not bagging on them, but let's clean that up a little bit.
Shout out, Francisco Alvarez.
Welcome back.
Welcome back.
Nice homer from him.
Cardinals take two out of three from Milwaukee.
I was watching this second game.
I mentioned my Saturday.
A, waking up to the Nolan Aeronado play.
If you haven't seen that, Sal Freelich Chopper to Third,
talk about body control, talk about if you think that play is easy for whatever reason.
I can't tell you how wrong you are.
God, the throw is so money, and it's just,
I feel like the other guy on the show should be talking about this more than me.
And then he's, yeah, walks him off the next day.
he's playing in here, gets the chopper to us left,
and when you're making this throw home,
which I love the aggressiveness of it,
but you basically,
you're aiming like at the third base dugout
because your body's going so far the other way
that you have to like, you know,
overcompensate.
So like he gets like on top of that ball,
which is kind of weird because usually you would,
you would go a little more sidearm there
and like kind of let it tail in,
but he just, again, like his aiming point is like the on deck circle
on the third base side
and then by the time you throw the ball
it'll move and he throws a strike right there
he had to throw a strike and he did it
and that's Nolan Aeronado for you
and yeah you mentioned the walk off bomb
after Helsey gives it up
Tariot with a huge homer off him
it was the Nolan Aronado series
yeah the Trio Homer off Helsley was sick
and it was kind of I did an eye roll
and I was like oh boy this is the Brewers from five o
to Tide game and then Nolan ends it
instantly. Aeronado 120 OPS plus. He's playing defense. This was a guy in a lot of trade rumors
this offseason turned down a trade. He's playing great. And I told Rob to circle the last time,
Pat Murphy's out here college coaching. Um,
Sal Freelick gets bench for missing a cutoff man. Uh, me and Caleb Durbin, uh, get picked off.
Like he's, his quote, uh, today's episode of,
of talking baseball, Pat Murphy.
These are young players
and they've got to know
there's consequences
for not playing right
or playing sloppy.
A closed door meeting
and a couple benchings
all within what,
is that a week?
Yeah.
That's a lot.
That's a lot, right?
It's a lot.
Pat, I love you.
I enjoy you as a person.
I think you are a very good manager.
That's kind of a lot.
These are big leaguers.
These are big leaguers.
Christian Yellow chest.
Professionals.
I get it.
set the tone, but also, yeah, you got to pass the baton to your guys in the clubhouse a few
times. It can't be just you. I think that's where you got to figure it out. Like, let Yelly talk
to Freelick and Durbin after you just had a closed door meeting. It's, it's, you know what?
We don't know what's going on in the clubhouse. The guys can be fine with it. Right. Like,
we understand it. From the outside, looking in, it seems like a lot. It feels like it's hit the limit.
I'm interested to see the next step.
Hey, Trev, this week,
the Best Western Road Warriors were your
Tampa Bay Rays
brought to you by Best Western Hotels and Resorts.
Life's a trip, make the most of it, at bestwester.com.
It's the raise.
It's Chandler Simpson, since they've called up the kid,
six and two, a hit in every game.
robbed a home run.
Generational speed.
Sometimes, you know, we get caught up with the term generational,
especially NFL draft weekend,
although Travis Hunter hits that court.
The race have won five straight games.
They take three from the Padres in San Diego
where they would refuse to lose before this series.
The raise, I called them out.
I didn't know, are they doing good pitching and winning late?
seems like it a little bit.
This is a really fun
series to watch, especially if you like outfield defense.
You mentioned Simpson going and grabbing the homer,
but Cameron Meisner out and right field made a couple of huge plays,
not just the game ending play, but one down the line as well.
Fernando Tatis threw a ball 103 miles an hour to home plate.
It was a lot of fun to watch, but as you mentioned,
yeah, Ray's five in a row, a sweep of the pods in Petco.
That's huge, man.
Here's that Homer.
Go get it.
He, I mean, just...
Wait, isn't it...
Mandy got robbed by Adam Jones, right?
Almost the same spot.
Yeah.
In the WBC.
A little bit to the left.
Yeah, man.
You don't often see speed like this on a baseball field.
So, like, he beat out of grounder to first base that it's one of those...
If it wasn't Chandler Simpson, you won't even question.
if there was going to be a play.
I think the Ump had the same thing.
They called them out.
They had to review it and switch it.
But hey, six and two since they called up the kid,
there's a, the youth move,
there's been another youth movement in Tampa.
And Chandler Simpson's a part of that.
Common Arrow kind of started it.
A couple of these other outfielders that are popping up.
They're not necessarily the youngest guys,
but they're balling out for them.
I mean, Miser's got a 900 OPS too.
You go along with some great outfield defense.
So shout out the raise, man.
them in the playoffs this year and it looked
really stupid at the beginning of the year but now back at
500, okay, looking good.
Let's wrap it up before we get to the second
half of the show. Treve, a couple
two of the dominant teams out west.
Dodgers take down the pirates.
You were there so I'll let you add any
commentary to that. And Giants, Rangers,
these have been two of my favorite teams
to watch this year outside of the Rangers
hitting, which again doesn't really
happen. And this
Giants team, sometimes we get caught up in the phrase finding ways to win, because usually
that just means in two weeks we're going to be like, oh, they weren't that good.
They just randomly won a couple ball games.
I don't know, man, this Giants team finds a way to win, and the Elliott-Ramos one is historic.
Yeah, they can get it done in a multitude of ways.
Shout out.
I love pinch-hit walk-off singles.
You love that.
And this one was just a very ill-advised throw.
Two very ill-advised throws.
like I don't what are we doing here like what I mean Ramos I can't watch this and not laugh he's he's surprised like what's happening Ramos should be out like three times he should be on first base that's it hold this ball hold this ball what are we doing here pitchers are athletes man no they're not that's why you don't just hold this ball put him on first base guys let's let's let's let's let's keep the game going and then oh my gosh every time I see it it's work
worse. Yeah. No, I
I watched this
in live time and my jaw dropped
and then, Trev, my next
thought was you watching this play and how
horrified you would.
It starts with the pitcher.
Like just don't throw the ball.
I don't know. And then again, yeah, Berger throwing
that ball away was just ridiculous.
I don't know.
Had a great time of the Dodger game. South Skeens.
I was sitting right, like literally right on top of the
Pirates dugout. So not the best
vantage point. That was the one thing I had.
great seats loved it had a great time was chopping it up with hindog and kutch and um i wish i was
behind the plate though because it's difficult seeing like kind of like ins and outs um of a pitcher
so i got to see skeins yamemota but it just was like not a great vantage point but skeins was
dominant man he made he made uh show hey look crazy the dodgers have a little bit of a problem here
man um yeah even though they won the series and they're doing
exactly what they need to do record-wise,
they just got some guys who just really,
really aren't performing.
Like Max Muncie has to figure it out.
Some of their,
some of their debt pieces,
their bench guys who are obviously veteran guys
and have been there,
done that just are really,
really struggling.
And I don't know if there needs to be a change there
or if it's just going to come later on in the season.
But the bottom part of that lineup is not great right now.
Yeah,
the bench is not great.
And I don't know,
man. Yeah, the only, the bright spot's been Andy Pahez, who, after that first week of the season,
you know, a lot of fans were pointing at him. He's gone bananas. But yeah, I don't know.
I think these are dodgerish problems that I think at some point I've seen Max Muncie kicking a
gear at certain point, like, you know, Hicke hits the like game ending Homer that first night that
I don't know. No actual worries over here.
I will say
And gosh, I mean this with all of your respect,
Joe Hohan.
You're a little quick on the draw right now.
Oh.
Hips going a little fast.
He's not giving himself as much time as he used to.
You think that's because Olivia was at the game?
I saw some wandering eyes in that Pirates.
Whoa.
Say names.
Say names.
I'm trying to think of exactly.
I don't even know.
There's a couple guys, okay?
I don't know all the guys on the Pirates, okay?
But then they realized who was sitting next to her.
They saw, they're like respect.
They saw Cutch give you love, hands off.
I showed up, I was, people didn't know what to expect because I had my Dodger hat on and a McCutcheon T-shirt on.
Just really, yeah.
You were set up for broadcast disaster.
Wow.
Oh, by the way, we got to send some merch to Cutch because he texts me after the game.
He goes, bro, I got to give it to you.
That shirt was fire.
I said, I'm going to get you one.
You on the shirt.
We'll send one.
That's you, pal.
That's you.
Hey, Reds.
Second in the NL Central.
Unfortunately, you swept the team that literally everyone's sweeping.
They stink.
Noveve Marte, like, are you that guy?
Don't love that you got suspended, big dog,
but are you that guy?
Because you kind of seem like you're that guy.
And if that's the case,
and we got Ellie doing his thing,
and we have the pitching.
The Reds, we've been talking about
dark horse teams, all these things.
If Nuevae Marte is, that guy.
There's a lot more credence to that.
Tell you what.
Reds are fifth in starting pitching ERA, first and whip,
and their third in runs scored offensively.
So there can be more here than just they played the Rockies
and swept them this weekend.
But yes, Deere kicked into gear this weekend.
Rime, Austin Hayes had a big weekend.
Everyone knows I want to feel things about my Reds,
but the Rockies, they're making every team feel good.
Treve, let's get into the second half of the show.
And it starts with standout performance.
These guys stood out and so does our warehouse challenges channel.
New channel alert people.
We've launched a new channel.

Really exciting stuff.
I've gotten to partake in a few.
It's must-watch stuff.
That's kind of the goal of it.
So go check that out.
Um, who have you been watching,
trust?
My standout performer is our guy, Seattle third baseman,
Ben Williamson on Saturday goes two for five, four runs driven in.
The reason I gave him this, Jake,
is because I want the Mariners to be good.
And they need offense anywhere they can get it.
Ben Williamson has provided that.
You can talk about other guys in the team.
Can I, my guy Polo, but I'm partial to third baseman.
You know that.
Here's the slash line, Jake.
He's hitting 310, 356 OBP 429 slug for the 784, 137 OPS plus.
Like, he doesn't look like Kyle Seeger, but doesn't not not look like Kyle Seeger.
So I don't know, man.
Like, we need guys to step up.
We know Cal's there.
We always talk about Julio.
Again, I mentioned Polanco.
Ben Williamson, if you can come up and be an above league average hitter at third
base. I mean, these are the steps
that you have to take if you're
the Mariners. And guess what he is at home?
He played his first, I think, seven games on
the road. He's three for nine
at home. So he can hit in Seattle.
Let this dude
stay and play. He can do it.
Shout out Ben Williamson.
Ben Williamson. You're all in. Chips are on
the table, huh? I need him to be the guy.
Hey, man.
Second rounder. Let's go.
Come on, Ben,
Ben? Come on.
He's a Virginia guy. He's an early settler.
Hey, wow. Early settler name, do like that.
Mariners, I know, hey, you deserve more love from us.
The team is fifth in OPS, fourth and on base.
I like that.
And they're in first place.
Third in homers.
Yeah, their pitching numbers don't even really jump off the board right now,
which I don't know.
I don't know.
Polanco's been bawling out
And now Ben Williamson's here
The arrival
Let's go
Let's go Willie
Trev it's a third base episode
Because I
It got mentioned on the way through
But it needs to be mentioned more
Because I love this guy
And it's the rarest thing to happen in baseball
There's been less of these
Than there have been perfect games
Hey Eohenio Suarez is four homer night
I think it's the 19th 4-Homer game in the history of Major League Baseball.
This was the third time someone's had a 4-Homer game and the team lost,
which, man, that's got to be a weird one.
That's got you had a historic all-time day,
and then everyone's in the locker room.
Heads down, the music's a little quieter that day.
Little weird, I'm a little worried about my snakes,
and how these games have been ending for them?
Because they've been, I mean, in a way, dominating games
and not winning them.
Eohenio Suarez's first four homer game since 2017,
J.D. Martinez on the Snakes also.
Tori Lavello, the only skipper to manage two of those games.
So that's really good managing by Tori.
And then, Trev, I've got a game I want to play with you quick.
Okay.
The game is called, was this player really good?
You ready?
Yes.
Will Clark?
Yes.
Okay.
Adam Jones?
Yes.
Okay.
Paul O'Neill.
Yes.
Josh Donaldson.
Yes.
My hitting coach.
Roger Maris.
Yeah, pretty good.
Salvador Perez.
Love them.
Right now I'm just scrolling down a list of guys who have less homers than Eugenio Suarez.
I know we've done this a few times.
He's got 286.
One more and he's tied with Bernie Williams, Matt Kemp, Brian Giles.
Like, this guy, it's been a weird career arc where, okay, you had that massive season in Cincinnati.
Who is this cat?
Wait, they're moving them to shortstop.
Okay.
traded to the Mariners. It didn't click. It wasn't clicking for any of the Mariners.
Now he's hitting homers again. I mean, by the end of this season, we're going to be talking about him.
Probably hitting 300. Like, this guy has been a left side of the infield player.
Some really high-end third base years, the shortstop time.
He's at 286. Kyle Schwabers, 291.
And like we don't talk about this guy in the same light as a lot of the names I just mentioned.
And dude, I was just doing all-time homers.
Like, what if he plays another 5, 6, 7 and there's a couple 20 homer seats?
Like the names he's going to be next to, it's rare air in baseball history.
And man, you like swag?
You like the hair?
you like the eerie like whatever you're into
Gino's got it so brutal that it's in a loss
but he's that guy
I got some more quick ones for you
you remember he started off the year
five homers in the first five games
then he hit just one in his next 72
at bats he was slugging 398
coming into the series now he's up the 564
so
love the early season numbers jumps
That's
Hair that with his second half last year
Snakes, figure out how to win these games
Because you're a lot better than your record currently depicts
Trev
A lot of other guys
Could have got that
A lot of other hitters, a lot of pitchers
And I think we're about to hear him
On Enfuego
Dirt Nasty's on Fuego
That means I'm on fire, baby
Like Waco
I really have not been partaking if we're being honest, shake.
For the series, Andy Pius, you mentioned him.
He went 10 for 12.
Oh, my goodness.
Didn't even have that in my big brain.
Three doubles of Homer, four runs driven in.
Jorge Polanco's been doing it.
Six for 12, three homers, seven runs driven in.
It's an absolutely crushing right-handers this season.
Michael Tolia, five for 12, five runs driven in.
That's your guy.
I talked about Nuelve Marte, man.
Seven for 15 in the series.
He also had that big game against the Orioles.
It kind of boosts his numbers a little bit, the position players.
But like I said, he looks good.
For the week, our guy, Agostin Ramirez,
former Yankee farmhand.
This whole list is your guys.
They're all my guys.
Nine for 19, three homers.
Go watch this guy swing the bad if you haven't.
It's more aggressive than Chicago Cubs Christopher Morel.
Like he swings that bad.
The bat speed is there.
J.P. Crawford, who I was DM.
with after that nice defensive play he made.
He went 10 for 22 in the series.
Two home runs, eight runs driven in.
That's the week, excuse me.
Tay Oscar, the greatest signing of all time.
Hey, Oscar to the Dodgers.
Just gets it done.
Eight for 21 this week, two doubles, three home runs.
He had his 200th career homer on Sunday.
That's nice.
McCutch.
Man, this is all my guys.
Nine for 24 in the week.
A double two homers, four runs driven in.
Oh, my God.
I didn't see who was next.
Breggie
This is
This is it
Alex Breggie went 11 for 27
This week
Four doubles a homer
Six runs driven in
For the 1.1 OPS
How about some pitchers
That shoved?
You want me to do this one?
Yes
I'll do.
Yes.
Shane Boz
We talked about the rays
And what they did
To the Padres
Sevennings pitch
Zero earned runs
Six K's
He's throwing breaking pitches
50% of the time
Against right-hand of batters
This season
It's working
Keep doing it big fella
Luis Castillo
Six inease pitch
One hit zero earned runs
on Saturday.
He talked about Lizarro.
Big start.
Phillies needed that, Jake.
I think they came in on that one
on a five-game losing streak,
six things pitch.
He gives up two runs,
but none of them are earned.
He's been exactly what they need.
And then my guy, Joe Ryan,
seven-endings pitch,
11Ks, nasty, nasty,
as the twins kind of like are figuring things out,
maybe, or maybe they just played the right teams.
And those are the pitchers that shove.
That's who's in fuego.
Jake, what about the batters who are struggling?
Again, I'm starting to realize the humor more and more that you get,
you're getting the guys that are killing it.
I'm getting the guys on the struggle bus.
Andres Jimenez, big trade for Toronto,
started out the gates hitting a lot.
Two for 44.
071 against relievers this year does not like the call to the bullpen.
It's a 297 OPS.
Ryan Mountcastle, man.
This is one of the guys,
Orioles need to hit lefties.
I mean, he's done that his whole career,
but not right now.
A 4 for 34.
Not getting to the outside pitch.
038 on outside pitches this season.
Keep that shoulder in, Treb.
You know, come on, stay through it.
Easy game.
Jordan Walker, 5 for 42.
Yeah, that's just bad.
Joey Ortiz for Milwaukee.
Remember how great he was last year?
He's in a 5 for 42.
42 right now.
Like, you know, Pat Murphy, go yell at him.
Hit the inside pitch.
I'll think it works out, hey.
I'm going to have Pat Murphy yell at you.
I kind of need that.
I kind of need that.
And Brandon Nimmo, a 7 for 47,
not getting to the high pitch.
150 on elevated pitches this season.
Is that anything, Trev?
I don't know what that is.
Let these don't like the high pitch.
for the most part.
Yeah.
Okay.
Actually, you know what?
Shout out Andy Dirk's,
who does some of the broadcasting
for the Tigers.
I was watching one of their games
and he was talking about that.
Get the ball up against the lefty.
They don't like that.
He's actually really good.
I watch that too.
It's him and Benetti, right?
They got a good thing going on.
Benetti's awesome.
But Dirk's,
he's got that little Southern draw
just enough, not too much.
I mean, talk about Detroit hot.
He's a Detroit 10.
he like was the first no-net guy that I really remembered.
Really?
He's kind of like he's, you know, he's built like this.
Okay.
He used to me.
Yeah, you might have had that ploof post-playing, tighten it up effect.
All right, now that I did guys who are struggling, let's, let me tell you who got hurt.
You think that was bad?
Here's this.
Um, hey, Logan Gilbert for Seattle.
He says he's okay.
First time ever on the IL.
Shut down from throwing for two weeks.
I mean, let's, again, pitch your timelines get tricky.
Because if you're shut down for two weeks, that means you're lightly throwing.
And that means you got to read.
So Logan Gilbert out for a little bit.
Scary for Seattle.
Tyler O'Neill and Garrett Mitchell, a couple guys that have a little bit of an injury.
history. They both go on the aisle.
AJ Minter for the Mets,
Forrest Whitley, out of Houston's bullpen.
Your guy Luke Keishel, who just got the call.
Hurts his forearm. He's going to be out for a bit.
The twins go out and trade for Cody Clemens
to go fill in for a little bit.
Let's see, J.T.
Jin, who's been pitching for the A's,
excuse me.
This is where things start to turn around.
Returning from the I.
Francisco Alvarez, here's a homer for you.
Pablo Lopez for the Mets, for the Twins, excuse me.
Jeff McNeil, also for the Mets.
Jack Leider, the young prince returned for Texas,
twirling the pill,
Colin Holderman in that Pittsburgh bullpen.
And that's kind of it,
which brings us to,
let's start everyone's week.
And it starts with the Draft King Sportsbook.
Go get in on the action.
tell you what, I was watching a lot of baseball yesterday.
Found myself betting pitches.
Slippery slope, be careful, everyone.
Little Poppy got hot for a little bit.

Trev, I think you've got something historic for the people.
Well, inspired by my new mouse pad, which is a, if you didn't see my story, it's a beautiful, massive Lord of the Rings mouse pad.
I don't even know if you called it mouse bag because it's padding everything.
I'm going to a little Tolkien baseball here.
We're one of the destruction of Eisengard, specifically, you know, Marion Pippen, okay?
For people who aren't familiar, Marion Pippen are kind of like the sidekick hobbits who,
get captured
and then find themselves
with the ends and tree beard
and you're kind of like
when you're watching the movies
or reading the book like what's going on?
Why are these guys so prevalent in the story?
Like are they going to do something?
They understand where they need to go.
They're trying to convince tree bird,
a tree beard, excuse me,
what to do.
They have this thing called an ent moot.
Okay? And that is when all the tree herders,
the ants get together
and they talk
about like what's going on and the entire time marian pip are like no like we need to go to
isengarde we need to go get sarumon they end up going and doing that the ends march they end up
breaking the dam flooding the moat flooding the moat around the tower sarumon safe up there but
they destroy his ability to produce war machines to produce orcs and er excuse me to uriqi
and then all like the equipment like they go and make sure that he's
he can't wage war any longer through Eisengard.
And you're like, okay, finally they did something.
This was great.
Mary and Pippen are throwing rocks at hitting people.
And it's like kind of a funny, weird scene.
But you're like, all right, they've shown up.
Mary and Pippen have shown up.
For the Detroit Tigers, we got a couple Mary and Pippins showing up.
And it's finally for them.
And I'm talking about Zach McKinstree and Spencer Torkles.
We've talked a lot about Spencer Torkelson.
Some of the adjustments that he's made and he's crushing the ball.
McKinjury, a versatile dude, go look at his stats this year.
Or what I'm going to do is let's go look at the stats for these guys prior to this year.
And we talked about the Tigers coming east.
I did.
Question marks along that offense.
Are they going to hit the ball enough?
Where is the offense going to come from?
Coming into this year, Zach McKinstree, who is with the Dodgers and the Cubs, Jake?
387 games played 1,200 played appearances.
Here's a slash line.
220, 285, 357 for a 6.43.
Like, are you expecting this guy to be an offensive threat?
Probably not, dude.
He's 30 years old coming into the season.
Like, we kind of know what he is.
His slash line this year, 321, 426, 476 for a 902 OPS.
He's showing up.
Spencer Torkelson.
It's worse.
I know he's young.
He played in 361 games before this year, Jake.
1469 played appearances.
Here's his slash line.
221 batting, average 300 on base, 392 slugging for a 693 OPS.
This is what he's supposed to do is hit.
He didn't hit.
Now, again, he's only 25.
So maybe you could expect him to turn things around.
But, dude, 1,400 plus it bats in.
He wasn't doing anything.
Here is his slash line.
this year. 255, 361, 569. His OPS is 929. Marion Pippin have showed up. The tigers are in first
place. They can pitch. They can hit Javier. J's. You're doing it too. I'm just happy for them,
man. They showed up. Tolkien baseball Tigers. It goes hand in hand, my guy.
I happy for the talking baseball OGs that the 10 of them that enjoy Tolkien baseball get to experience that today.
And I'm glad you gave the Tigers some love.
And I saw Tolkien baseball on the sheet.
I didn't know who the awards were going to.
Turns out it was those tigers.
And part of my award is also going to the Tigers.
So, hey, we're, you know, they won a playoff series last year.
They only had one starting pitcher down the stretch.
They've got a handful of them now.
And they're getting offensive production.
From Green and Torkelson, too.
I know we talk a lot about how you need McKinthries.
You need guys to pop up out of nowhere that contribute in a baseball season.
I shouldn't say out of nowhere.
Sorry, Zach.
But there's also something cool when the guys you've heard about for years,
the one-pick, Torkelson.
Riley Green, top 10 processes.
When that's happening in front of your eyes and the whole team has already elevated itself from where it's been a couple years ago, it's a fun time in Tiger Land.
And Trev, I think I'm running a repeat award too.
I think this is something I gave out last year, or maybe I just dreamt of it.
And maybe we're dating ourselves with Lord of the Rings and I'm giving out the SCA music award, which, you know, real big fish.
I know it hits a chord for you.
Do you know what they call the dance when you dance to ska music?
No.
It's called skanking.
Love it.
I can skank.
You can skank with the best of them.
I think the two best pitchers in baseball are skying.
Maybe skanking it up.
No, they're not.
I don't want to say that.
Scoobel and skeens.
So I'll piggyback off your tigers for a little bit.
Hey, if you made it to this part of talking baseball, you know, Scoobel and Skeens.
And that's, you know, I'm not bringing too much to the forefront.
But it doesn't always have to be highlighting McKinstree or whoever's,
Anduhar's back for the A's.
Like, a lot of times it's the dudes.
And Scoobel shut down the Orioles.
Again, I know they're struggling with some lefties,
but everyone's struggling with this guy.
And he's back at it again.
Six starts, a 234, 40 strikeouts, and 34.2 innings.
He is going to be, there's a hundred to Gunner.
He's going to be in it to the end of the year for the AL-Sai Young trying to run it back.
And then the other guy, he's just entered this weird area of,
do we talk about him enough?
Do we not talk about him?
Like, you know, I'm looking at the Pittsburgh Pirates record,
and I'm disappointed, and I hate it.
And it's that whole conversation,
but that doesn't mean I need to take away from talking about Paul Skeens
because he went to L.A.
Where he's, you know, as every good ball player is,
he's from the area, Trev, you know.
6.1 scoreless against the Dodgers.
Season high, 9 strikeouts, career high 108 pitches.
So, you know, he knew he was in L.A.
On a Friday night with coach in attendance.
And you mentioned it on the way through,
but some of the swings he got out of Shohei,
some of these other Dodger hitters,
it's just, it's different.
When he's locked in,
you're truly guessing and you don't have too much of a chance
that the Skawboys,
I'm excited to see where they land this year
because I think I'd have them as the two favorites
to win the Cy Young.
Okay.
I love the Skawboys.
I love it, right?
No, Skeens was absolutely filthy.
It was a pleasure to watch him,
and we know Scoob's numbers are kind of inflated
by his first two starts.
At the Dodgers, he got four runs and five innings pitch,
then Seattle kind of like got to him a little bit.
After that, it's six shuddy, seven shuddy,
five innings pitch, two runs,
and then six shuddy against Baltimore.
So he's back on hit business.
Well, it's just, and Trev, the other point there is you meant his first start,
five innings four, five point two, three, his next start.
And that's getting to scuba,
which means you've entered,
you're just in a different stratosphere of pitchers.
And hey, you know, there is,
we're not too far removed from scuba trade rumors.
And then the Tigers kind of turned it around
and started winning games that maybe that's...
Best team in baseball since August 11, Shay.
Give them credit.
Maybe that's what Pirates fans will have coming one of these days.
As of now, thank you people.
