You know, before the show, let's just peel back the curtain a little bit. I spill the coffee. Just a really bad coffee. So it wasn't even a good coffee all over my laptop, my keyboard. my mouse, my beautiful Lord of the Rings mouse pack. I know. But we're grinding through it, as you said. I'm good. The road's great. We're in Pittsburgh now. So I'll get to see the pirates.

And we miss Paul Skeens, which is nice. But I'm also ready to go home and be back in my studio, be with my loving family. And that's basically the gist of it. Thanks for asking. How are you, Jake? I'm good. I'm good. You know, big, big Monday coming up for you. Or no, you're middle. middle middle. Your birthday month is coming up. I just got excited for that. Yeah, I'm doing well. It's funny, Trev. We watched you unfold over there and Rob saw me. You don't know this. About 15 minutes before that, I walked into the office and I was like, Rob, I need a minute, which I don't normally give him that. Normally we have a little makeout session start going. San Francisco giants it up and then we get ready for the episode. The city got to me this morning.

So I don't know. It's the summer heat is real. It might be an F and F episode. And I think if you're a bad team, I think the dog days of summer are now. Like, you're kind of looking around at each other in the clubhouse. Like, are you still going to be here? Am I still going to be here?

That, man, a couple of these teams, I can't believe where they are coming up on the actual start of summer. And a couple teams have emerged since we've, like, fully yucked ball trev. We had the holiday jolly filled in. for an episode. They're like, my snakes are a part of the season,

like big time. The nationals are above five. Like, just what the NL needed, more teams to join the party. Meanwhile, the American League is still, if you want to be 500, you're a contender in the American League.

Yeah, I mean, stop ruining all the standings coach. Ah, yeah, the Mariners have joined the party. Love that for everybody. Your snakes definitely have. And then we'll kind of see which way we think

the Padres are going. I got a big of a good question. I don't know. Big yep. I've got a lot of pitchers I'm going to highlight later. So we are going to F or F. Let's jump in because it's Friday. And we'll start out where you are, Trev.

Beautiful Pittsburgh, the Steel City and the Pirates. They come out. They win a close two to one game. Hank Davis with the big game winning hit. They win a blowout 12 to 1. The Cubbies. everything is falling apart. They've lost 10 in a row.

Pittsburgh's finest. Ian Hap. Two massive games to help the Cubs end their losing streak and split the four games set. Oh, the Cubbies needed that. Staying in the Centrale. Bird is not the word. The Cardinals slip up.

It's sweepweed. Half the league got swept. And the Cardinals were part of that. two. The Milwaukee Brewers and the best one-two punch in baseball. Jacob Mizorowski and Kyle Harrison. Just the best start to a brewer's career since? C.C. Sabathia, our wannabe best friend. The Brewers get the sweep on the final day. Dustin May basically no hits the Brewers, and they still find a way to win and get the sweep. Insane. I mentioned we're playing for rings in the desert. The Arizona Diamondbacks are back, and part of the reason, Catelle Marte is going

beast mode. And the snakes are pitching a little bit. I want to say in the month of May, the whole staff has a 285 ERA. Oh, and they played the San Francisco Giants, which, hey, I get it. You and I were like, yeah, we kind of like them. They're not performing. They're losing. We almost need to stop talking about them even though they're still thrusting in the outfield. They weren't because the snakes swept them and they're hot. Speaking of, the Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego. They sweep them.

A couple of shutouts, the two lefties. Jesus Lizard and NL. Sy Young favorite, Christopher Sanchez. Yeah, 8 foot 11 inches by the end of this series. The fight in Phillies, again, their record with their new manager is good, and the Padres were starting to get a little nervous. A team that was nervous, still a little bit, the Cincinnati Reds. They faced the New York Mets.

They took two out of three with a pair of seven, two wins to start off. Nolan McLean, a couple nasty starts for the New York Mets, excuse me. Nick Lodolo, with his first win in a while, and Chase Burns. If you're looking for an NL. Sy Young Dark Horse, Mets salvage the set, Juan Soto,

shout out to Jalen Brunson when he's homering. Knicks fans don't want it. Dodgers sweep the Rockies, and that's obvious. Freddie Freeman, easy, opo, poppo. That Shohey Otani guy leading off the game with a home run

while he pitches, and he might be the NL. Sy Young favorite. The Dodgers roll up on the Rockies, Sorry, Rocks. And then the Miami Marlins and the Toronto Blue Jays. A couple tough outs is how I would describe it. Marlins took that first game.

They got a lot of Canadians on their team. Liam Hicks, Owen Casey, who's getting hot. Who else? Otto Lopez. So I was going to start calling them the snowbirds. Anyways, doesn't matter because the Blue Jays take the next two games. Jesus Sanchez with his first career grand slam off of Sandy and Okamoto who's been in a funk

tie-breaking solo home run The Blue Jays win two out of three beat the fish And that's what happened in the National League Why the snowbirds? Because Canadian people snowbird down in Florida So if you're the Marlins and you have three Canadians in your lineup I don't know the snowbird There's something there.

Don't they go in the winter, though? Yeah, it's a little, it's a little backwards. What's a snowfish? A pike? I think that is a real fish, right? I'm not good. I got the standings. I got the standings.

That's not my strength, bro. If you want to. I'm a northeast soft boy. You know that. In the National League, we're going to start out east. The Braves continue to roll. We didn't read their series because they were in Boston, 38 and 19 for them.

And the Phillies, you know, as good as they've played, Jake, still just two games over 500. You know, a far cry from where they were. Actually still out of the wild card race right now. 29 and 27 for them. And the nationals, congratulations, above 500, 29 and 28. And then your snowbirds, I'll give it to you, 26 and 31. And the Mets, one of the most disappointing teams in all the baseball, asked Jolly Olive. He went on air and said they could win the NLE East.

They ain't doing it pop. They're 14 and a half games back. 23 and 23. And then in the Central, maybe the most interesting division in baseball. Maybe not. I don't know. Maybe it's the Central in the other league. Milwaukee, 33 and 20.

They got a four-game lead over the Chicago Cubs who are 31 and 26. They've gone on like two massive win streaks and then a massive L streak. Glad they got the two in Pittsburgh. We pulled in last night, Jake, as they were finishing that game. St. Louis, four and a half game is back in the division. They're 29 and 25. The Reds 29 and 26, only a half game back from them. And then one game back from them, still over 500.

The Pittsburgh Pirates at 29 and 28. And then out west, yep, three teams separating, no doubt about it. The Dodgers, 36 and 20, four and a half games over both Arizona and the Padres who have the same record at 31 and 24. So yeah, the snakes are out. It is time for snakes like in California. It's snake season. Really?

So that makes sense. and then the Giants, 22 and 34, down bad. Good news for us, Drew Gilbert followed both of us on Instagram, but other than that, bad news, and the Rockies 20 and 37. Those are the standings in the National League. Thank you, Trevor. Yes, as you mentioned, we're there and we're not,

but if the National League playoffs were to start today, it would be Diamondbacks, Padres, Cubbies as the wildcar teams. And then it's Cardinals, Reds, Philly. So that's where these Phillies still have work to do. They've been doing a lot of work. Credit to them. And a stack National League, man, Nats over 500. A really pesky Marlins team after that.

I would love to know what, I guess, what you're looking for and what you saw this week. And then for the Cubbies, it was an absolute tailspin. And I got slaughtered.

I had the Cubbies above the Brewers in our power rankings a week and a half ago. And Brewers fans, if they have an enemy number one, it is the Cubbies. And they were like, we're better than the Cubbies. And they are. and the Cubby's a 10-game losing streak, and who could save them, but only Pittsburgh's finest Ian Hap? Yeah, they really, really needed that.

We ended up watching the last part of that game when we got in last night, PCA diving into the plate, all that good stuff, but I guess we'll start with the pirates who are getting, look, the bullpen, not so great, but the starting pitching, I think, has been great,

and they're adding another one. Jared Jones is going to be back. They announced that Liginski is going to go to the bullpen. He had a presser that he wasn't too happy about, obviously. I think if you talk to Pittsburgh Pirate fans, maybe, and it's weird because you want all these guys as starters, and what's the other team we're seeing this happen? Well, with the Mariners.

Yes. You get too many starting pitchers right now, and not everyone's going off, but these guys are reliable starting pitchers, so you want to keep them stretched out. Jared Jones taking Muginski's spot, A lot of people are saying, Bubba Chandler,

you know, should he be the one to go back there? You know, he's dealt with his issues, letting base runners on walks. You know, the command isn't always there. The stuff it obviously is.

And you want him as a starter. But that's going to be something the pirates will have to navigate through. But, yeah, a split series here, as far as the Cubs go, you know,

they've been a streaky team, obviously. We've mentioned that already. And for them, I think it's just stay in the course. You're getting Ben Brown, who's looked great in his starts in the rotation. And it's just like, the offense just needs to get going again, essentially.

Yeah, Cubs Dalton Fun Fact here. And Cubs fans, you might like this one. The 2026 Cubs and the 2017 Dodgers are the only teams in MLB history with two 10 game winning streaks and one 10 game losing streak. So they have seen both sides of it. year. And the Pirates, man, they're in an interesting spot where we've talked about it a lot that, hey, if you have, if you play 500 for four months and you have two good months, you're a playoff team. That's how you win 90 games. The Pirates are an interesting, they've been around 500, which again, in a way that's a win, but they haven't gotten the go

button yet. And I just wonder the line between how much that lingers in a tough NL Central and how much it's like, hey, we're there. We're getting Jared Jones back. Like, again, the formula is here that I guess Pirates fans, you guys know your team better than me. All of you guys know your teams better than me. That I just wonder how that's feeling on their end when I'm also seeing like, dude, Connor Griffin and Oppo Homer kind of with ease. And you're like, yeah, dude, that 6-4 body in that ballpark if he can find that. I don't know. It's all in front of them, which has to feel so much better than other seasons. But I, again, Pirates fans, let me know how you're feeling. I know the defense has been a little bit disappointing for them as well. And, you know,

they're basically relying on starting pitching and then, you know, some of their big bats that have the big games. And that's a rest of the meeting, you know, keep you around 500. If you want to take that next step, you got to get the bullpen figured out, in my opinion. I like that. And yeah, Hey, Cubbies, let's see the next steps. But they survive a Skeens Day on that final day to go from 10-game losing streak to you could have still lost three out of four and Skeen strikes seven of the first eight out. I've got some skeins. I've got some, I'm talking about some of the big boys later, Trev.

You're going to like that a lot. Speaking of big boys, Mizorowski, he's a part of that. And we'll keep it central for now. Unfortunately, Cardinals, I don't know. guess we're waiting for the other shoe to drop. I don't think this is the other shoe. I think the brewers are just happening again. And again, if you're looking for financial advice, I'm not supposed to legally give that out. But every year before the season, I will tell you, to bet on the Milwaukee Brewers over, because it's insane. And Mizorowski is, it's unbelievable, Trevor.

Six straight start with at least eight Ks and zero extra base hits allowed. I mean, that's, That's how you do it. I mean, he already has a hundred strikeouts on the season. We're not even in June yet. It's really incredible. And, you know, we saw glimpses of this last year, you know, the overpowering stuff. And for him, it was about command. And obviously, he was getting his legs under him at the big league level and innings

under him at the big league level. I'm still kind of curious. I don't know if the Brewers have came out and said anything about like an innings limit this year. What are we going to do with that? But yeah, this was a guy who like at the end of the year they weren't even really trusting and here he is Putting together some of the you know a best 11 starts we've seen in a long time It's been it's been incredible so you're right. I think for the Cardinals you're just like you tip your cap You just got you just got Mizorowski and Harrison to death and then you have a guy and this is

Obviously very very tough you have a guy go for you Dustin May who like we've always loved the stuff. It just hasn't really panned out necessarily. He's been great for the Cardinals, and he takes a no-no into the bottom of the eighth, and they find a way to lose that game because the offense can't go on because the Brewers also have good pitching.

It's a very difficult defeat there, and yeah, the Brewers end up getting the sweet, man, taking advantage of a Mason win air after he made a really nice play earlier in the game. So it's, yeah, you got Brewers. That's it. Yeah, and if I'm doing the math right, which probably not, but it's telling the people what I'm seeing, I think Mizorowski threw across different levels and the playoffs through about 141 innings last year,

that, you know, if you're doing a natural pitching progression, you'd think a 160, 170, right? And yeah, what's the Brewer's philosophy and what are, like, what's he registering? It's going to be very interesting to track again, like if Skeins is going to throw 200, if Sanchez is never going to give up a hit again. The NLSI Young Race is one of my favorite races in a long time. And yeah, the Brewers, I did, it's one of my weirdest things I'm obsessed with and doesn't matter, but I love doing on this date last year, just seeing what's going on. And on Wednesday, because I'd have to check the updated,

but the Brewers and the Toronto Blue Jays, who were the best records in the AL and NL last year, they were both under 500 on May 20, 27th last year. So like, and then if you remember, the Brewers got crazy hot, Toronto got crazy hot. So, yeah, if you are one of those teams hovering, there's still, there's the tweet, nice, Bob. There's still very much enough time in this season to get going, and we think we know something,

and one of these mediocre teams is going to pop, and one of the good teams is going to die. I don't know who it is yet. I'll tell you who it's not going to be, the Brewers. They know what they're doing. Their recipe is there. And do Kyle Harrison with another final. snap. If Kyle Harrison was in the AL, he'd be like a toe-to-to-sai-young favorite right now. Instead, it's just like, okay, we'll catch up with, where'd they get him from? Sorry, Boston. Yeah, Boston.

Tough year. Do you want to do anything about the Uribe? Suck it. Suck it. Yeah, man, we should talk about it. We've got to show it at least. It's kind of perf. I shouldn't say it's kind of perfect. That's not where I should start. Okay, it's a pitcher pitching with emotion. You'd rather it wasn't a 6-0-0 game. You'd rather Uribe not doing three suckets on the mound. It's a rivalry game. Burleson looking at him at all right there, or was he looking up with a Jumbotron for his challenge?

I don't think he was looking at Yerebe. From what I know about Berlinson, I think he'd take a little more offense to that. But it wasn't at him. It was at the dugout. Apparently, Dan Vogelbach, big boy and Ali Marmal exchanged some words about them saying that the brewers were signaling from the dugout or second base and it's all squashed now.

Yeah. And hey, Pat Murphy came out. There's a lot of managers that would just say like we're dealing with it. blah, blah, like Pat Murphy came out a lot louder than that. He's like, that doesn't represent us. That's not who we are. Like, that's where, hey, it happens. Guys play sports with emotions.

Uribe let it eat And Pat Murphy came out And he's like, I'm embarrassed about that He mentions the 6-0-0 game He mentions that's not what we do, it's unacceptable So like, yeah, and I was watching Matt Arnold on MLB Network the next day So take that, Chris Rose.

And he came out and it was very much It was apologizing without, like he was like, We love Abner. We love that he pitches with emotion. And, yeah, it's not great, but we love the player and we know what he did. And I was like, yeah, like, he could have sold out harder than that. And again, I think all around it shows why the brewers are a top-tier, top-tier organization in the sport.

Speaking of, are the Arizona Diamondbacks Big Back as they sweep the San Francisco Giants? I mentioned Ketel on the way through. He has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball. If he's not on Enfuego, then Dalton and Dalton's new intern, we're going to have a talking to because I'd like to think so. Erod has kicked into gear. Remember when that felt like an amazing, like, yeah, middle of the rotation bolster signing hasn't been that,

has in the month of May. And then they complete the sweep with Paul Seawald on the back end trip. The snakes have been playing fantastic baseball. well you know we knew that this was going to be a stretch that they had to get it going in 13 green stretch versus the Rockies and the Giants and they won 11 and 2 which is fine handle your business handle your business and you know what we kind of talk about all the time excuse me like there are teams that get other teams hot my twins have been that for a long time you know when you start to see balls land and when you start to have these outings like you can carry at least some confidence into your next stretch of game. So does it guarantee success? Obviously not. But good vibes right now with the debacks. You mentioned, yeah, Marte has been going off. He's obviously a guy that can carry your offense and he's done that. But what's really, I thought to DALT a little bit about that. It's really been, you know, the starting pitching has

just gotten the job done. Whether you're talking about E. Rod or Merrill Kelly over his last four starts is really good. Soroka's been really good for them. So you're you're getting the starting pitching, you're getting the offense going, and this is, you know, it's how you win game. Six and no against the Giants this season. I don't even know if we, I mean, the Giants are just down bad. Giants are kind of out, man. I had a shower thought this morning because I was, you know, we've,

in a way we've loved what the Giants have been doing. Like they tried something with Vitello, his quotes were entertainment, the outfielders and the whole Drew Gilbert experience. And then, dude, I kind of thought of the other side. I thought about being like a proud Sanford. San Francisco Giants fan and like, you know, when they were winning the World Series every other year, fast forward a decade and I'm watching us lose a lot and us hump in the outfield, I could see that being a bad time. I could see that being a bad time. So, yeah, giants are kind of out

for me for now. Like, we've talked about them a lot. We thought there was going to be a little boost at some point. The Diamondbacks have the boost. The Giants are out, man. A couple of thoughts on the Giants. and I just had this. And I don't know, is this discourse around San Francisco right now? Bruce Bochie would never let him hump in the outfield. Here we go. Yes. Is that what are people talking like that?

Probably. Some Bay Area sports radio? Absolutely. Yeah. But let's go back to the Diamondbacks. I think teams at certain points at certain points need also, you know, some sort of like lift and a youth movement, if you will. Waldschmidt coming up for them and also Tommy Troy Dalton wanted to make sure that I mentioned those two guys

is kind of like spark plugs and bringing the energy. So dime back's up big, giants down bad. Yeah, and just constant reminder that Corbyn Carroll is known as one of the best players in baseball, but we don't. That's true. He doesn't come off the tongue maybe as early as he should. Kitelema, I can't do an impression of that guy.

the broadcaster, Blanking on his name, early Sports Center. Steve Berthume. Steve Berthume. Yeah. I used to go back and forth with him on Twitter when I was a player because they would cover almost every game on SportsCenter

and then they wouldn't do the Twins and I would straight up text him or tweet out and be like, why the fuck didn't you cover my game? Every game was discussed, but not. Trevor Plu. Another funny thing and just something to watch for with the Dimex,

because you imagine all three that pitch in this series. have been pitching well for them. Erod Soroka and Merrill Kelly of late. Me and Dalton also had a funny thing that we went through the Diamondbacks and he's like, dude, we have a bad bullpen every year. And I was like, really? And it kind of scratched out.

And then the Diamondback teams that have done something in the postseason, they had a bullpen and they could throw the ball. And right now, man, Taylor Clark, your guy with a 199 ERA. Juan Murillo, ERA and the twos. Thompson 3 Flack, Ginkle, a nice pickoff play. They're like, they have a form. Dude, if they get Corbyn Burns back, I might have to book a flight back out. Oh, no.

Jake Snakes back, if they'll welcome me. They won't. No, we had a good thing going for a little bit. I want to get out there. Noah Khan concert in August. Why was I looking at that? Phillies. They played San Diego.

Okay, Trev, I'll Chris Rose you. Does the conversation start with the Phillies or the Padres? Oh, Phillies, man. Come on. Okay, talk about it. The way they play ball. This is a nice start for Aranola, which he needed that. You know, he's obviously struggled this year. Two lefties on the bookend games, get the job done.

I mean, you got to give credit to them. I know San Diego's offense hasn't been great, but they continue to pitch the ball. Christopher Sanchez is just like on another world. Los Ardos, you know, had some, a decent run of starts here, which is a welcome sign for them. We had a lineup toss up. Shwerver goes back to the lead on spot.

Trade Turner goes to two. I like his quote was like, yeah, I don't care. Anywhere like one, two, three or four is fine with me. It's like, of course. There's none of that back in. Yeah, don't. Don't you dare. No funny business.

You know, game two was a great one for the Phillies. You get the homers by Harper, JT, and Tray Turner. So that's nice to get it. Plus the Nola start. And then you kind of knew. I mean, Sanchez versus Bueller, even though Bueller had a decent outing, that was going to be a tough one. It's 44 and two-thirds innings scoreless in a row. We're entering, we're entering like legendary status here.

If he gets up into that top three, these names that we have here, longest single season streak in the live ball era, so since 1920, it's Oral Hersheiser, which everyone, I mean, I remember that. Maybe not everybody. that's like ingrained in my mind growing up in L.A. 59 innings pitch. He took over for Don Drysdale, who had 58 innings pitch, and then the guy after that is Bob Gibson at 47.

So if Chris Sanchez can go out there and throw like two and a third scoreless, his next outing, he'll tie Bob Gibson. If he can get into that top three, that's something, man. That's rare air. And I know maybe we didn't talk about the Kurtz,

common nick on base streak enough or i don't know for me it was really funny that he he tied the record um just McGuire yeah just because i don't there's something funny about this sport that like you know there's very few records that get set to the moon and it was like you know on that day the record was tied and there we go that yeah wherever sanchise lands this thing it's already in special territory it's the seventh seventh longest scoreless streak ever and a a lot of these there's only one in the 2000s and that's crinky. So like very special stuff happening with him right now in the Phillies. Yeah, the fans, we love seeing a lineup show. We love seeing something, a physical change and then you see some contributions. You worried about San Diego? Question mark. Yeah, I mean, people are,

I mean, I think if you were watching their series and what they were doing early on, you kind of understood, like, it was magic what was happening. A lot of like late, like late, like late inning comebacks, like the pitching staff would keep the game close and we'd have a couple big hits here and there, but overall, the offense has struggled nearly all year and the guys that you need to get going just haven't essentially.

So that's going to catch up to you. I mean, they got, again, it's whatever way you want to look at. You face some really good starting pitching here or you just continue to struggle and you didn't have those late inning resurgence. So the bullpins obviously kept them in a ton of games. They're still in a playoff

spot. The record still looks really good. So I think it's a weird time to be a Padres fan. Okay, like we're seven games over 500. And you could even say it as a positive. We've done all this without our guys performing. Yeah. But eventually the guys got to perform. I think that's kind of where I'm at here.

Yeah, it's going to be interesting, man. They play the Nats this weekend. And I don't, you know, I don't know how often I'm going to be hunkered on the couch watching that series. Again, there's a Chase Burns conversation about how far he has broken out into the season. And I think in a normal NL Cy Young season, we'd be talking about him a lot more. Some Nolan McLean concerns, basically the last things Mets fans needed, gives up seven runs in his past two. His off-speed stuff is not working. That outside of that, I don't have a ton to add. Yeah, this is a dominant series by the Reds. being honest. They were up, I believe,

6-0-0-0 in game 1, 6-0-0 in game 2 before winning those games both by 5-run 7-2. You're right. Great start by Lodolo. Burns has been awesome. And then, interestingly enough, you know, the Mets win the game, which is essentially a bullpen game.

I'm okay with that. Although you already have an American League team, so maybe I'm out on that for you. 29 and 27 for them. My twins, they tried. We were almost to 500. Almost.

But three games under now, 27 and 30. The Royals, 22 and 34 and the Tigers. Yeh. 22 and 35. Out east, Tampa, although they got swept still in first place,

34 and 19. One and a half games above your Yanks, who are 34 and 22. Those are the only two teams above 500 as Toronto's 28 and 29. Baltimore, 26 and 31, and then the Boston Red Sox. Bottom of the division.

My AL analysis, dude, it's wide the fuck open. And I've cursed it. couple times and it's an F-R-F episode and I'm sorry.

Okay. And I'm sorry. But like, okay, the Baltimore Orioles, it's been about a bad of a start to the season as they wanted. Two games out of the wild card. They have a hot week. They're back in this season. The Houston Astros, who felt pretty dead.

They're on a seven and three in their last 10, which has them two and a half games about. The socks who feel as dead as you can possibly be are four games out of an American League wildcard. I realize there's a lot of teams in between. There's a lot of season, but if you're 500, you'd be on top of the AL Central and you'd be a dominant. So that's where some of this analysis, I think you and... Whoa, whoa, whoa, you'd not be on top of the AAL Central at 500. Stop. A.L. West. A. L. West. And I would say you'd be a power in the American League Central. Power is power. I guess with these Texas teams, Houston takes three out of four,

the combined no hitter, which is just the sports in a funny spot right now with some of our pitching stuff. But I think the story, Yordon is a genuine MVP candidate. That's not a word, pal. And like, okay, the aster is the whole thing. The pitching was the worst in the sport. So if you get a no hitter and you get Aragetti, who's been fantastic, they could piece something together and be a part of this year. Yeah, I mean, I told you.

you last time I saw Amai's start against the twins I was like this guy's got the stuff it just I feel like he just is throwing the ball up there and he doesn't have like a a plan that's what it looked like to me but he does have the stuff so if it if he

if the coaching staff can kind of get him to it just seems to me like there was no and I don't mean this in a positive way like the sequencing to me didn't work okay and sometimes you're like okay that's great he's mixing things up it to me it just wasn't that way. This game, he starts out he walks two batters to start the game. They have a pitchers meeting

and all of a sudden he settles in. He talked about having to deal with new stadiums and pitching in new stadiums. You know, every time he's out basically right now, he's still learning what the mound is like. And I get that. I get it. That is something. But, uh, I mean, I actually really like that play where he just got out of the way of the ball. Oh, thanks. That was good. I actually saw too many of those, uh, in that Chicago White Sox twin series. But, uh, uh, uh, uh, Yeah, you're right. Like if we can get, Am I to be comfortable on these mounds.

And I feel like maybe the reason I said that about his like sequencing and his lack of a plan, maybe he's just struggling to find one against hitters he's never seen before. So, you know, once he starts to settle in, maybe that's great. Mike Burroughs with, you know, what's possibly his best start of the year.

And then you mentioned Spencer Ergeti. So yeah, if you're getting, if you're getting starting pitching I mean that was kind of like the missing vehicle early on in the season of them they were losing games but they were crushing the ball early on I think they're still going to be able to do that

especially at the top of that lineup so yeah obviously a really nice series for for Houston as you mentioned like they are still right in the think of it yeah it's a clunky second half of the lineup uh yes you look at the pitching staff and there's some stuff you don't love like they're about to play the Brewers and then Pittsburgh, and I like those teams more. It's a home stand, so again, Houston, get hot at home, win your home games,

pitch a little bit, and we'll talk about you more. I'll be honest, probably the bigger problem is the team they were playing, the Texas Rangers that I continue to want to believe in. You know, my guy, Jack Peterson has joined the party this year, hitting the lead off with a couple big games. Burger's driving in runs, but it's just, it hasn't been enough for years, and I think they're the reason why Houston took three out of four if I'm being, why are you still pitching a Yordon in that third game?

I don't know. That's a good point right there. Why? Shout out to Christian Walker. He's been playing really well after a tough debut season with Houston. We'll keep it out west, Trev. Go west, young man. The Seattle Mariners.

Your AL West leading Seattle Mariners, as we all predicted. come this time a year. We just didn't predict they'd be under 500 and they'd claim it from the athletics. But they do do it. And as we've now mentioned a couple times, they've got starting pitching depth, which is a beautiful thing when it works,

and you're yelling for the other guy when it doesn't. It worked to this series with Castillo as the opener for Bryce Miller. They combined for all nine innings that game, so that's also a pretty nice bullpen reset these days. Yeah, it feels like it's kind of. come together. Neither of us would be shocked if we look up at September 1st and it's like, oh yeah, the Mariners took the division

lead on May 28th and they never gave it up. In that division, yes, absolutely. Yeah, it is kind of like champagne problems when you're talking about, oh, what are we going to do with Castillo and Miller? Castillo hasn't pitched well, so like there is

that aspect to like this like quote unquote feud. He wasn't happy. He got taken out of that game. And this was mishandled by the Mariners a little bit, in my opinion. It's And it's hard to do. Dan Wilson said, so it's like, yeah, we're trying to piggyback two starters. We're trying to keep them, you know, they want to keep the length because they understand pitchers, you know, starting pitchers especially. Like, you know, you need, you need a bunch because they're going to get hurt throughout the season.

So, you know, the last time around Bryce Miller started, Luis Castillo comes in. This time Luis Casillo started, Bryce Miller comes in. And like, there's really no easy way to do that. You can't just set here's your pitch count and that's it. because in this game Castillo like finally having some success he wants to stay in the game right it's like okay so whatever again champagne problems for them they'll be fine um and yeah big two big offensive games uh for the mariners and i think chris rose i mean this is not like a groundbreaking analysis but like doing all this getting back into first place uh you've gotten you know zero from cal rolly this

year. And I think, you know, when he comes back, obviously, that's a big part of your lineup doing it. But yeah, this is, they are the best team in the A.L. West. They should end up being by the seasons and one of the best teams in the American League. Brennan Donovan, I think, is a big, they need him every day in the lineup. They need Cal every day in the lineup. They're going to, the pitching is going to be fine. Like, this is a team who, yes, by the end of it, we'll run away with the AOL West. Yeah, and the piggyback thing, man, like I'm looking at their bullpen usage right now,

like how much that helps and where their pitching is ranked. Like, I don't know, man, they've got the snakes who we just talked about our playing an exciting brand of baseball. Then they've got the Mets and the Tigers. So, like, they could, the Mariners train could leave the station, but I've also said that earlier this year, and it hasn't. And we'll look at a series in you, you know, that offense without cats.

You can look at the second half of it, and it could be a little unexciting. But it can also be exciting. So let's see the next step for the Seattle Mariners. For the athletics, I mean, I don't know. Not much has changed. They tried a left-handed pitcher strategy this series because the Mariners had bad numbers versus lefties, and they called up gauge jump.

That's a name. Okay. And Jeffrey Springs got the start that, yeah, They tried to attack that and it backfired on them. Lefties hit 333 against or the Mariners hit 333 against their lefties. So I don't know. I like that they tried something, but it's bad when it doesn't work. Yeah, I mean, the A's rotation has been tough.

Last 12 games, 0 and 8 with a 5.7.3, the defense has struggled. It's, those are the things. If you're the A's, we understand like the offense is going to be good. They haven't scored as many runs as you typically like. but they are, you know, they're with Nick Kurtz and Shailene Lears, and they have an offense. There's no doubt about that. But they're going to have to figure out the pitching.

And if you're having okay pitching, you better have great defense, and they haven't had that so far this year. Let's head over to Baltimore, which they might be, if I couldn't quit the Texas Rangers, Baltimore could sneak into my, I can't quit them category, because, I mean, it starts with Pete and Gunner, who Gunner has a two-homer game,

and I know he's had home runs. Everyone's kind of wondering where everyone else is. Sam Bessayo has a big home run in that middle game, and I like him, and when the light bulb fully goes off, watch out. Again, maybe that's not the story with Baltimore, because look at their three starting pitching lines. Braddish, six innings, one run. Ba' seven innings, one run.

Trey Gibson, 5.2, one run. Yeah, that's a good. kind of the thing that's been more so missing, although they've been missing on a lot of fronts. And cows are two back-to-back walk-offs, man, that's, that's rare, that's rare, that's rare air. Yeah, no, it's incredible. It's funny because it's two different teams, too,

so two different series, love that. And the race coming into this scorching hot and getting stopped and sweat by the oil is insane to me. But, yeah, it starts that first game. I think, obviously, if Baltimore loses that first game, I mean, the whole series could change, but instead, you know, you got your guy, Rico Garcia, who's just, like, been incredible for you, you know, keeping you in the game, allowing you, uh, to, you know, to come back in these innings.

And even you see this in extra inning games. If the visiting team scores, too, it becomes really difficult, uh, for the home team to, to go. And that's what basically visiting teams are trying to do. They're not, they're not bunting the guy over getting one run. That's not how you approach it. Um, and the rays were able to do this. that but then they answer and then all the sudden boom cows are with the knockout blow that is a

tone-setting win for the rest of the series it's kind of what happened here yeah it's uh i mean i could watch pete run all day rewind that rob that's the effort this man puts into running it's just so incredible and i really it is what it is and pete's a special creature but like you know And in an era where it's normalized if guys don't run to first, Pete just puts it out there every day. And I just think that matters. And yeah, we'll see, like Orioles, I obviously can't believe in you. And I don't think you're believing in you.

But I don't know. The Ray's getting swept for the first time this season. Like, could that be it? Pete Alonzo gets his 1,000th career hit. Snap for that, Peter. But I don't know. Again, on paper and what this team was supposed to be. and when you, it's like, okay, Taylor Ward, Gunner, Adley, Pete, Bessio.

And then if anyone can contribute, Jackson Holiday, Kobe Mayo, Kouser, like, real prospects, real contributors. I can still dream a dream. And maybe it starts with that starting pitching. They've got a big ALE stretch coming up, Toronto, Boston, Toronto. So we'll find out about some of those teams. Even though Boston, I think we already know about question mark, Trev. And know what it is.

Well, okay, Red Sox fans will tell you what it is real quick if you talk to them. Dude, their home record stuff, that's disgusting. They hosted the Braves, which that's been a bad recipe for literally everyone. But the Red Sox are one seven and one at home this year. A nine and 19, or that was their series record, one, seven and one. They're nine and 19. They're five and 23 when the opponent scores first. it's just like

what's one seven and one mean series records oh series I was like how'd you tie it yeah that was yeah my bad five five and 23 when the opponent's scores first like you just all of those are horrific feelings and that's what they're having

yeah and in a park where you truly it's one of the parks you should have home field advantage in just because really like the outfield I mean left field interesting with the wall but you know the toughest part of that park isn't the wall it's like the it's the corner in left center where the wall meets center field and then it's like it shoots out to the bullpens and then you have pesky pole and that kind of the way the right field curves around it's like

very it's a very difficult place to play outfield if you haven't played there before and they have a tremendous outfield like it should be to their advantage but it just has and I got to see these Braves, we haven't, or the Red Sox, excuse me, we haven't talked together, really, since that. They are, man, like, they have some starting pitching, which is great. I think their bullpen can be great. But the bottom, my takeaway was, like, the bottom half of that lineup. It was just outs, man. It was just outs.

And, like, really not a lot to offer. And that's, that's difficult, especially, like, like, your top half of your lineup, which they have a decent, you know, they have some decent players at the top there, but they're not always going to perform. That was the biggest takeaway to me. It was like, as soon as we got to 6, 7, 8, 9, it was like, all right, you could breathe.

Like, the rally's going to be shut down. They're not going to get on when they flips over to the top of the lineup. That was the biggest thing to me. And they played a bunch of sloppy defense as well. So if you're a Red Sox fan, you're probably saying, yep, yep, yep, yep. Payton Tolly, though, I know he didn't have a great start here. And things kind of like get away from him from time to time. Like he'll have like one bad inning.

But like Glenn Perkins said this and you're going to love this. Why I brought it up. There was a first inning he threw against the twins. And it was like 10 pitches like three K's. Some ridiculous think that it was like one of those dominant innings I've ever seen. Glenn Perkins said that it reminded him of when he went and saw C.C. Sabathia pitched the metrodrome when he was a kid, he like stood behind the plate. He's like this big MFer throwing nice.

98 just by you just challenging like just heaters only that's what it looked like there so he's got it man that guy's gonna be really good yeah it's um not even the rotation to start the year right and it's it's like uh there's an old school part to it with modern stuff uh and you're not you know you don't want to say he's got a mustache so it feels old school like no his picture it's not really modern stuff it's just fucking rearing back and yeah and that's what it is like at He's got more F you than I feel like a lot of young pitchers do at least. And by the way, Connolly Early with a fantastic star here. And this is where Red Sox fans get, I feel like they get confused.

It's like, wait, we got these two young Southball pitchers. And something's off with the recipe. And the good news for them, everything's been off for the recipe if you're playing the Braves this year because people just can't beat them. Michael Harris, too, who I was pretty harsh on before the season because he hurt me. He has his second four-hit game of the year against the Red Sox and the Dodgers earlier on this year.

And then, yeah, oh, yeah, Ronald Acuna Jr.'s back. And he hit a grand slam. The Braves are fun. The Braves are fun. That's what I have. Chrisill, Chrisill, coming home, five in these pitch, two earned runs. I'm not coming home.

Where is his home? Did he have to say one home for Chris Lowe, where is it? You would say the White Sox. You would say the White Sox? Yeah, that's. like where it started. Okay. Right.

Yeah. I mean, you can have a homecoming in multiple places. So has it been, is it only been white socks, red socks, braves? Yeah, right? Unless there's a weird Max Scherzer team to start his career. No. White Sox at age 21. So yeah, I think that would be a homecoming.

Boston's also a homecoming. You win a title there. You're welcome. You know, it's funny. I'm actually just looking at some of the logs. I said the bottom half of the, lineup not getting it done. Icaf's like what about me bro? Hey he had he's iKF is one of the best quotes in the sport that's not being facetious because he's he's real like there's a reason

that teams love him um because he's he's a team guy and he's had some quotes like I haven't been doing my job he gets hot though he puts the ball in play so i don't boston's looking for anything tell me about white socks twins twins twins could have lost every single game here uh like it It took like an incredible play for them by Josh Bell or like a lucky play kind of for them to win that extra inning game. Like so that's they should have won every single game. They're a good team. The White Sox are a good team. And I wasn't sure about it.

Saw him play. And okay, yeah, it's against my twins. But just they have the recipe, man. That infield's awesome. Vargas, Midroth, Montgomery, Miracami. The outfield, they like platoon all these guys. So it's like they're going to be different almost every single game depending on who's pitching. And they're not afraid to pinch it and do all those things.

And it kind of works for them. Like Randall Gritchick is having an incredible year for them. What the hell? But the main thing, Jake, their pitching staff is turning into a like lookout. Kay after he's made his adjustment, really like just commanding the inside part of the plate to Ritey, He's throwing that cutter and it's pitchable. Like, you could, he's a, he's a good start of the half in your rotation. I think he actually makes like the next day better too.

He's just a different type of guy. I gave him a Mark Burley shout out a little bit. That's tough for White Sox fans because that's, you know, they hold him in high regard. But he pitched great. And this guy they brought up Sandlin, David Sandlin, I think he impressed me more than Davis Martin, who was really good too. So like that's like this guy's like a real deal pitcher that came up in Sandlin. Like his stuff is filthy.

I think Andy Paz is probably doing it the best right now. 37 B-War already on the year matches his total from last year, save the World Series, comes back, and it's having just an incredible season for the Dodgers. Yeah. Okay. Cool, man.

I would like that, too. Can I retroact my payment, please? They wanted to bring the CBT tax first tax threshold up to $300 million. They wanted the tax teams that weren't spending enough. So, you know, there was that aspect of it. The Major League Baseball came back with a salary cap. proposal, a floor and a ceiling, if you will, a 50, 50 revenue split. And all these things, they're just, that's the first offer. Okay. So you're going to hear from the union saying,

that's terrible. You're going to hear from majorly baseball saying, no, that's terrible. And here's my advice to them. Just like, if you're a parent, you understand, and you're with your spouse, there are times where you're not going to like see eye to eye. You're not. And there are times where maybe it's going to be drastically different. But the one thing you do is you don't fight in front of the kids. If you got to talk about some and you want to, and you need to get loud and argue whatever it is, Olivia and I like,

I can count on half a hand how many times this has ever happened to us. But like we make sure, let's get out of the way from the kids. They don't need to hear that. I feel the same way with these two sides here. We've been a labor pod before. I've been a players association, executive committee member on one of these things.

Yes, now we have a partnership of Major League Baseball. I don't think that really affects my viewpoint whatsoever, in case you're wondering. I just don't want all this to happen in front of fans. And we can see the proposals. I'm okay with that. I actually think a lot of fans are interested in it and they're smart enough to want to be involved in the conversation. But like the name calling and all of that, like, why do we have to do that?

I think that paints such a negative picture of the league where we should really be as a league entirely, players and the ownership. We should be like in lockstep. We're going up in a couple of years. We're talking about real national TV rights, playoffs, streaming networks, all these things where that's going to be a big, that's going to be one of the biggest, you know, times of, you know, of this sport. over the last, I'm like 20 years. Like all this stuff has changed so much as far as like where we're going to be able to watch our baseball. We need to be unified in that. Like we need to like go, uh, and present that to these networks.

We can't be this like fragmented yelling at each other. We hate this side. We hate that side. That's not what you want. So even if it is like that, keep it behind closed door. Show us the proposals and that's it. Like nobody wants to hear that. Like I don't care what side you're on if you.

think there should be a salary cap, if you think that the players, you know, should be getting paid more or need to be, the teams need to be spending more, whatever it is, we don't want to hear about, like, the back and forth. That's my opinion on it. I can't stand it anymore. We've, we've lived through it too many times where it's just like, they're wrong, no, you're wrong. No, they're wrong. No, they're wrong. No, they're wrong. It's like, no, everybody, let's get together, find a medium solution. again, we're going to get into the nitty gritty of it throughout the season, but like, it was the first proposals and we're already getting named calling from both sides here. And it's just stupid to me.

It's just stupid. And I get like we're like in that in society, like our politics have become almost exclusively that, which to me is also like, aren't we all working towards the same goal? Aren't we? Should be. Feel the same way here. That's my advice because I have been, I've talked to union people. I've taught to majorly baseball people about this upcoming negotiation.

It's probably going to get a little dirty. But it doesn't have to be that dirty. Like, let's just be like adults in the room. That's my take. Mom and Dad award. I don't know. Yeah, it's a, it's, and again, we've been the number one labor pot in the world. We will be one day.

We're not ready for it. Because like you said, these are the first offers and they're going to be so far off. And you even put fake stuff out there almost just to see if the other side wood reactor flinch and I don't even think either side looked at these first offers. Like I think they were just like, okay, so we did that. But yeah, it's going to get so nitty and gritty

and the sky will fall and we will have a lockout technically and all of it that, yeah, it's just going to be it's going to be where you and I used to be optimistic and now we've fallen for the fear mongering a little bit. Oh, I'm still optimistic. Is that like, in theory, this shouldn't be the CBA. It's what you said. Like, the next one, like, should be one of the biggest pivot points in the sport.

We're already in a nice pivot point. Like, we change the rules. Things are going pretty well. Like, we don't, they're lining up the rights deal as you're talking about, and that's probably the biggest pot of money. And that's what all of this is about. That, yeah, that's where we, and I still remain optimistic. Everyone else is in a bad place with it.

And, hey, nobody truly knows. Because if one conversation goes horribly awry, who knows what? could happen. But yeah, it's the game, the game has begun. And it's, it's going to be public. And they want it to be public. They want you and I to talk about it. Sa Young race, I'm normally not excited for the award season at all, to be completely honest, like it sorts itself out.

Dude, this is leaving out Yamamoto. This is leaving out. Kyle Harrison, if he was in the AL, would be the second favorite for the A.L. Young. The NL. Saw Young Award this year is insane. I love every character involved. I have no idea how it's going to sort out. The sports books have Sanchez as the leader by a lot. And I just, no offense to him, but I don't know how this sorts out. I'm so excited to see it. Sanchez has the lowest FIP of any of those guys. He's got the highest F4. It's probably why they're referencing that. I agree with you that I'm very invested. I was going to throw like a Max Meyer out there,

just joking about that. There's a lot of, there's a lot of NL people that are having great seasons right now. If I had to score it, I think it is Sanchez to Mizorowski to Otani right now. Which is these, Paul Skeens out, which. He's been doing, he's had a few starts. They know the ERA isn't as glistening as some of these other guys.

It just isn't. And you can talk about ERA being results based. Yeah. Isn't that what the Siams? should be. What were the results of this year? So yeah, I mean, the innings, like Sanchez and Skeens are going to have innings.
