Starting point is 00:00:01 Hello and welcome to talking baseball. Teams fighting for their life. It's shape-up or shake-up season. Who's got the sauce? Hello and welcome to talking baseball. Presenting you by Seekkeke. Go talking. Trevor Pluth, big baby David and myself,
Starting point is 00:00:39 getting into it as we're basically a week out from the trade deadline. Eight days. I know we all had a big. bit of a wonky weekend, a ball and play championship game, a Morgan Wallin concert, a wedding in Queens, a traditional Chinese wedding in Queens for myself, that had me up late night getting into it. And getting into the baseball, my goodness,
Starting point is 00:01:11 couple big boy matchups, Ray's Orioles, Dodgers, Rangers. I think you had that as your World Series pre-year. review. Trevor, how are you doing? Jacob and Bebers and everybody listening, I'm doing very well. Yes, we had a big weekend. A lot of fun down in L.A. But put that aside, things are about to happen in my life on a jet plane tomorrow. Headed to where? Yeah. To see you, Poppy. Big city. New York City. Bringing the family out. We're doing a trip. We'll be in New York. We'll be in another place. Then back to Brooklyn, then to Minnesota. So we got some stuff coming up. I think I'm even going to a Yankee game.
Starting point is 00:02:01 How about that? How are you doing, bro? I'm good. I'm excited for that. As you found out yesterday, I didn't know that you were doing a little New York teaser before you come back. We have something happening us in New York. How did you not know how it was? coming to you. I knew that, but I didn't know the six days before that you, you, part of that you had a city trip mixing. So I think we're doing talking baseball midweek live in studio. The four of us? I think so. Whoa. So that's really exciting. Subway series in town. Hope, you know, you're trying to get this.
Starting point is 00:02:43 Is it a series? Is this like an exhibition match between minor league teams? Uh, pink eye with the twins, Trev, right after you got out of town. That's interesting. Yeah. These eyes are clear. Yeah, your eyes look fine. Let's see that butthole. Um, maybe we should get into the games. Um, and yeah, we still need to name this part of the season. Someone kind of gave me that, I think, I think they said the line like makeup or shape up, uh, something like that. It's not perfect.
Starting point is 00:03:19 Yeah. And I'd love if it was one word. I know Treadline was still out there, but yeah, a couple teams still dictating their future. And Trem, where do we start off on Mondays? The American League, obviously. The I. And it's brought to you by Pally Sports, Trev, your other company, excuse me. and man, did they really do some targeted stuff here?
Starting point is 00:03:51 Because they're calling this short boy summer. This is just for our show? I don't know. I'm starting to think they made this campaign around us. You guys know Bally's. They cover 18 RSSs. They cover a lot of baseball at Bally's, and the games have been quicker.
Starting point is 00:04:11 So they're starting to make some short boy beers that you can find regionally 8.4 ounces. Shorter games, shorter beers, stubby cans for a stubby guy like myself, whether you're Milwaukee, Detroit. Hey, those fish in Miami. The games move in quicker and enjoy the games with Bally Sports. You might even hear Trevor Goof on a call sometimes when you're listening to Bally. So go stream it on the Bally Sports app or watch it on your RSN. There's a link in the description if you're wondering how to get there.
Starting point is 00:04:50 And maybe you'll find yourself drinking short boys, listening to short boys, watching some short boys, Colton Wong. Thanks, Bally's. We appreciate you. And yeah, go watch your team in this final stretch. Treve. Colton Wong is the short boy that comes to mind off the rip? It's one of them.
Starting point is 00:05:14 Well, he was my fashion guru for a little bit. bit. So he always has met him. We've looked him in the eye. He always has a nice place in my heart. Okay. Jose Touve. Uh, let's talk ball, because there's a lot of ball to be.
Starting point is 00:05:29 Oh. Oh. The battle of the AL is the Tampa Bay Rays hosted in the trap. The Baltimore Orioles for four games. And the Orioles take three out of four. The game they lose. Led Zefflin puts up a big boy performance tied 11 game winner in the AL. He's 10 and 1 at home.
Starting point is 00:05:59 Silly stuff. Remember they gave him the biggest contract in Ray's history. Jake, stop talking Ray's because the Orioles got it done. It's Gibby in that first game. Ignoring your calls. Ignoring the hitters. Getting out. Adley Rushman.
Starting point is 00:06:17 and Gunner Henderson. Yeah, you might hear more about him later on in this one. Grayson Rodriguez, his longest start as a starting pitcher, 5.2 as McAnne and Mateo give them a couple, two RBIs each. And then O'Hern, who's been a real shot of life for them. He has a game with Gunner in that last one. Orioles take three out of four. They increase their lead in the ALEs. It's only the second time that the Baltimore Orioles, have won a four games set in Tampa. That's a real stat. Getting special out in Baltimore.
Starting point is 00:06:55 The Houston Astros going out west. They take three out of four from Oakland. Not as surprising. JP France, I feel like we've been saying his name allowed. What's his season stats look like? Kyle Tucker puts on a show in game two, three home runs. Bregman's there. with him. Jeremy Pena saw he was getting some ire from Houston fans. Will he get going?
Starting point is 00:07:24 Yainer Diaz, man. He's put up a couple Big Boy series. Houston, let's be honest, they handle their business against Oakland, take three out of four. Also out west, the Mariners handle their bidness. They win two one-run games of different fashion. Three, two in the first one. Tay Oscar gets grouchy with a walk-off single. And then the Mariners, they have a a big five-run inning in that second game. They win nine to eight, boogity, boogity, and then Manoa versus Woo-woo, Brian Wu in that last game. The Blue Jays, they get it done. They salvage, they survive the series and don't get swept. A lot of Toronto fans up there. You forget. Seattle, that part of Canada, that's pretty close up there. Exciting stuff. Your twins, Trev. The Pink-Eye twins.
Starting point is 00:08:17 They sweep the white socks. Wow. Wow. Including 12 innings that final game, The Nightmare Bailey Ober, started it out. Lucas Gialito, five innings pitch, zero earned runs. Is this his last? Will he?
Starting point is 00:08:35 Huh? Lance Lynn with another rough one out there. His ERA is in a crazy spot. Might need a change of pace himself. But Trev, you always talk about the twins and they need hitting. Buck Dad. in the first one. Kiroloff, your guy guy, Edward Julianne.
Starting point is 00:08:52 Ha ha ha. Bagget. Uh, twins get it done. They sweep. People are starting to drink twins' Kool-Aid. Good. Because our Yankees also swept. Wow.
Starting point is 00:09:07 Six and O for the boys this weekend? They swept the Royals. Uh, a nervous first game. A nervous second game, if I'm being honest, as it's close late. But the Yankees hold on. And then they get a big lead early in that final game. Labor Torres, he's got a couple homers. He leaves with a little injury, though.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Big Giancarlo Stanton and DJ, if the Yanks are going to do anything, they need him. Billy McKinney with the big game. Michael Massey fought for the Royals. Mark that down. But the Yankees survive. And that is what happened in the American League. Bobby, Poppy.
Starting point is 00:09:48 Poppy. Happy, great job. Papi, Pa, Pa, vamos. Cambio, Cambo. Listo. Baltimore Orioles are two games up and the ALE East, July 24th, 61 and 38 above the race. Toronto, six and a half back, 10 games above 500. Baston and the Yankees, two games back of Toronto.
Starting point is 00:10:14 The ALE East has kind of brought it this year. It's kind of brought it this year. Don't give me that, I see, I see. Minnesota, speaking of ASEC, 53 and 48 on top of the Central. Cleveland Guard Dogs one game below 500 or
Starting point is 00:10:31 three back. Detroit, seven back. White Sox, 41 and 60. Kansas City Royals, 28 and 73. A half game up on Oakland at 28 and 74. Texas Rural. Rangers are first in the AL West.
Starting point is 00:10:49 They're going to Houston, who they're three games up on. That's a fun one to start this week. Angels are 51 and 49. Seattle, 50 and 49. Trev, you said this is a series that you may have dipped your nose in the furthest. And it was a big one. Orioles and Rays in Tampa. Your guy, Gibby, ignoring your calls.
Starting point is 00:11:13 what did you see out there, coach? I want to put this out there. The Gibby called me back many times and texted me, and I ignored all of them after that. I haven't even got back to him about like, hey, man, it's no big deal that you didn't answer. You were playing golf. I wanted to get that out there.
Starting point is 00:11:35 You sounded like Donald there. I want everyone to know Gibby called me back many times. I didn't get back to him. I ignored his calls. but good for you. Okay. Okay. Okay. That's not exactly what I was going for there, but we can do that. No, really good ball played here. We're going to talk about Gunner Henderson. Look, people, this guy had a great series, defensively, offensively, I'm going to get to him later. But this is, this was the biggest series, I think, of the weekend. I mean, there were some good ones, too.
Starting point is 00:12:08 We talk Diamondbacks, Reds, we could talk Brewers, Braves. We can talk about. Dodgers, Rangers, but this, like the implications of it, man, like Baltimore going into Tampa, taking over first place. Felix Batista just being a guy in this series. I mean, it was, it was just impressive baseball played by them. And you're right. You know, you have the pitchers going on there. The first game, Gunner Henderson base running is involved.
Starting point is 00:12:37 Again, we're going to talk about this guy. Catches Randy Orozerana sleeping a little bit there. They take advantage of that. Gibby does enough there. You mentioned the only game that the Orioles lost here was our guy led Zephlin doing his thing. The offense didn't show up there or Eflin just shoved.
Starting point is 00:12:58 You know, sometimes which way do you go there? The offense didn't show up or this guy just shoved. I think it was the ladder there. And then, yeah, dude, it was just whenever the Orioles needed a knock, they got a knock. Whenever the Orioles needed to make a defense. have played. They made a defensive play. The back end of the bullpen. Interesting, like they're trying to mix in Fujinami in the back and the results as they just haven't
Starting point is 00:13:23 been like almost ever. We're just not there. Like he gets hit. Like it's nasty stuff. Uh, but he gets hit even in this series. I mean, they're trying to mix him up there like cano, but cano Fujinaami Batista. And I don't know if that's going to be the, the formula for, I mean, unless things turn around. But just a really solid series down there in Tampa and a very tough place to play. They go down there and get the job done. And, you know, the Ray's offense has been sputtering
Starting point is 00:13:58 since, you know, that offensive outbursts to start the year. And, you know, I don't know if the Orioles are just catching at the right time or it seemed like the Orioles things better in this series. And here you go, three out of four. Man, I haven't deep dove, and maybe if you're one of our big Orioles supporters, innings is going to be so interesting. Because you mentioned Fuji, they trade for him.
Starting point is 00:14:28 He gets thrown in the fire instantly. And we talked about it. Like, recently he's been a lot better. He was adjusting, and, you know, his splitter had some great numbers on it. He gets thrown in the fire instantly. he gives up a run each time, one and two actually. And if you look at just their bullpen usage recently, Felix Bautista pitched in four out of five.
Starting point is 00:14:50 Yannier-Kano has pitched in four out of five that we've talked about their young starting pitchers a lot. They're going to have to really be careful with how they're using a lot of these guys down the stretch because it is what makes them different, man. I mean, Bautista coming in for two innings, including the, the extras there, special and, you know, sets the tone for this series, right? Like, if they don't win that first extra inning game, what are we doing?
Starting point is 00:15:19 Well, they split. These are two good teams, tough to play in the trap, blah, blah, blah. Instead, they get the win, sets kind of the tone for the series. And the other guy that I just want to mention again, Ryan O'Hern, a nickname on baseball reference, Bro Hearn. Obviously. Yeah. That's just fellas being dudes.
Starting point is 00:15:43 Purchased by the Baltimore Orioles. That's a weird term. Maybe we get that out of baseball. Purchased by the Orioles from the Kansas City Royals, who have been searching for any offense anywhere. And Ryan O'Hern has been awesome for them. 313, 358, and 885 OPS and 55 games for them. So, you know,
Starting point is 00:16:10 Yenny or Kano, a throw-in in the Twins trade last year. Like, they, this Orioles rebuild, obviously all the young studs and high draft picks, but also that, uh, that mindset of increasing on the margins. Boy, they have. And yeah,
Starting point is 00:16:26 there's, when I read that stat of, you know, they've, the Rays have been around for, we've done this recently, 25 years, something like that. The Orioles have only won, one four games. set in the trap. Like that's, that's different.
Starting point is 00:16:43 And this is, you know, this isn't one of those weird years. This isn't one team good, one team bad, or both teams middling. These are the Crem de la Crem. So for the Orioles to do it like that, that's, that matters. I mean, the raise are 4 and 14 in July. Sheesh. I mean, yeah, we've also mentioned this on a show. Like, getting out to that start, the undefeated April, as we like to call it,
Starting point is 00:17:09 You knew there was some regression coming, but 4 and 14 is tough. And I don't know. Like, maybe Ray's fans can tell me differently. As I was going through this series, they weren't playing bad ball. It's just some of the little things get in the way. Like I mentioned, Randy of Rosarena just kind of lobbing that ball in. Yeah. Our guy Gunner taken advantage that had to bring the infield in.
Starting point is 00:17:31 Now the Rush one hits the ball past the infield. It's like those little things matter a lot. an air at home played on an a rosaray in a throw. He guns. I forget who he was running, but guns him down and catcher drops the ball. Little things, man. I'll, uh, little things, sure. I'll zoom out to Jakey analytics.
Starting point is 00:17:57 Uh, none of, none of the raise hitters the last seven days. You guys know I like to look at fan graphs. None of them are ranked top 100 hitters the past seven days. And I think I said this last time, and we might need a Ray's tracker, and maybe we'll put one of our social people on trying to find one of those cool bar chart graphics. Rays used to be first and everything offensively. Now they're 10th in batting average, 10th in on base. I think last time we checked in, I think it was 8 or 9.
Starting point is 00:18:27 So, yeah, we talked about a lot. When the raise were dominant, they were really mashing the ball. they've got a weird two-gamer surrounded by off days with the fish and then they go on a Houston New York Yankees road trip so race figure it out against the fish
Starting point is 00:18:48 also scuffling and you know get that bullpen rested because that is an interesting stretch to their season as they wrap up what's going to be an awful July an awful July yeah it means no way to salvage it now
Starting point is 00:19:03 you're going to be under 500 no matter what, you've relinquished a lead in your own division. And I don't, yeah, I mean, there's going to be a game or a series that gets them back on track. And maybe it is that Miami one, I don't know. The other four gamer that they
Starting point is 00:19:23 took three from, from the race, that was 2006, so. Yeah, I'm good. First of all, it's hard to do that. Four game sets are so weird, man. I don't like, I don't like it. Right. And it's, you know, it's at the drop. And the raise have been pretty good for a while. It's one of those things that's like, whoa, like, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:19:42 We're going to talk some more Orioles coming up. Rays, I don't know. Interesting stretch. Houston takes three out of four from Oakland. We mentioned four game sets, taking three. It's hard to get four, even against the A's. Houston does their job. I'm going to talk.
Starting point is 00:20:01 I said I was going to look up J.P. Francis' stats because he feels, he felt like he was going to be a, This is his rookie year. He's 28, obviously. And 13 starts to the tune of a 3-1-3. So, yeah, that's, yeah, they threw him in the mix. He's fine. Man, Luis Medina, another good start for Oakland.
Starting point is 00:20:24 But, yeah, Kyle Tucker has the big three-homer game in the second. Yaneer Diaz has given them a lot. I don't know. I don't think we have to spend too much time on this. I will say, we'll talk about the Dodgers and kind of the injuries that they've sustained, but the people that are on the aisle right now, some coming back, some not coming back,
Starting point is 00:20:49 Al-Tuve, Alvarez, Brantney. Those are three guys who thought we're going to be in the lineup, you know, essentially carrying the offense. Out. Luis Garcia, Lance McClure's Jr., Jose Arkidi. Out. Those are the guys you thought were going to be in the rotation along with Framber and Hunter Brown
Starting point is 00:21:06 and they're just not there. And you're able to sustain the level of success. Now I know there's still a couple games behind the Rangers. Three games back and they're about to play three, so that's fun. It just speaks to the organizational depth and our guy McCormick has just been going off. Chaz said, Travis, shut up about Louise Robert.
Starting point is 00:21:30 I'm going to continue to do my thing. They're such a fun organization to watch. you're going to talk a little bit about one of the players later. Again, three or four are from the A's. We're kind of at the point now where it's snaps for you guys. Big series coming up. Big series coming up in the H. H-Town, Fuggetown, Puggetown, pretty down.
Starting point is 00:21:50 City where the top drop, city with the purple dragon. Tucker and Bregman, man. They are, yeah, they're on an island offensively. I know you said your guy, Chaz got going a little bit, but just on the year, it's interesting to see. What's Chas's line at right now? Your boy, Chas... I'll get it up.
Starting point is 00:22:12 He's been really, like, going out. Chas McCorn on the year? Oh, wow. 870s, yeah, I told you. He's doing it. Wow, you really did piss him off, huh? I did, yeah. Reggie probably told him.
Starting point is 00:22:27 That asshole, ploof, talking shit about you, Chas. Yeah, I'll get some numbers up for you guys. Give me some numbers real quick. Oh, my goodness. All right, last 28 days, he's 1.0. 333. He's 3.46 in it. Last 14 days, he's 3.5-7ing for a 1.2er.
Starting point is 00:22:50 He's absolutely going. Jeez. What did you do? Hey, but that's what you need. You know what I mean? Yeah, yes. Any team, any team, regardless of injuries, good teams get not surprised,
Starting point is 00:23:04 performances, but better than expected performances from different players. That's how you have a good season. Like you, you have your guys that have track records and you say, okay, we're going to get this type of production. And you bank on that. And then it's what do you get from the other guys that can thrust you? You love that word. Thrust you forward. You, Elon must love thrusting. Oh, we're hitting all the high notes this episode. Don, Elon. Oh, my God. Thrusting fun series in Houston this week.
Starting point is 00:23:42 We'll tune into that one. And another fun one this weekend, also out west. I talked some Vancouver briefly as I got through it. Mariners take two out of three from the Blue Jays. Tay Oscar with the walk-off in the first game. Some fun pitching matchups, Bryce Miller, Kakucci, Gossman and Gilbert,
Starting point is 00:24:07 Manoa and Woo-W-W-Bair. I have a buddy named John Weber that we call Jay Wu, and I have all the nicknames for Wu lined up, so that's another reason I'm attached to Brian Wu. Awesome. Just got to keep him in the mix. Julio, he gets his first homer in about a month. It was a pretty, one of the best pitch,
Starting point is 00:24:30 but you get that off the Schneide and you get going. And yeah, the Blue Jays, Santiago Espinal with the big pinch hit. John Romano holds on, and there was a ton of Blue Jays fans in the stands. You do forget that they cover that whole, they cover that whole thing up there, huh? Let's start by talking about that.
Starting point is 00:24:50 So our social account puts out that the Mariners are selling Blue Jays gear in the team's store. which is actually kind of commonplace. Yes. J.P. Crawford, Paul Seawald, get a hold of the tweet from Talking Baseball's account and they're not happy about it.
Starting point is 00:25:09 Mariners take this stuff out. Vinica, famously, of talking baseball early years, she handles a lot of the sales for the twins. She wasn't happy about it because she says, look, a lot of people come to the stadium for the visiting team too, and they maybe forgot gear or want gear. Mariners players were having none of that
Starting point is 00:25:29 And I'm happy they took the series Because I feel like now that's like see we had our We did it right guys Yeah I mean but yes That's that's conducting business at a certain point Like yeah But I you know in that situation I kind of get it because like you said
Starting point is 00:25:48 This is It could be littered With Blue Jays apparel When you know it's like it's our home, it's our home park, dude. NFL teams won't even sell tickets to other people. If you have the wrong area code, the Padres
Starting point is 00:26:04 did that, right? Yeah, there's something like that. So, you know, like there's, it goes on. Anyways, Tasker Hernandez with the revenge, got to love that, not revenge, but there was a lot of that this weekend, a lot of former players of teams
Starting point is 00:26:18 doing business against those teams. First pitch slider from Jordan Romano. He thought he had a home but it hit off the top of the wall. He ends up obviously just kind of walking to first base. But I've been on this. I've watched the Mariners up close and personal.
Starting point is 00:26:36 I think there's still like a nice run in this team. I really do. I'm not just saying that because of what they did last year and whatever. Like they have all the ingredients for it. They just have to hit a little better. It's crazy that Mike Ford has been like doing it for them. Again, like if you have your regulars producing at their regular rate and then also have Mike Ford doing what he's been doing.
Starting point is 00:26:59 That's the key. They just haven't had the regulars kind of doing it. Like, Julio hasn't. They need Julio to go. They need Julio to go. He looks in between to me. He looks in between pitches to me. A lot of like pop-ups just missing pitches.
Starting point is 00:27:15 But like he's so talented. And I always say this. I have to mention it. Like, you know, obviously there's a book out on him now. And, you know, it's up to him to make the adjustments. and as soon as he does that, I really think that this is a team that could, they're four and a half back from the wild card in the AL,
Starting point is 00:27:33 and I think that they're going to be in the fight for that. I don't think there's any doubt about it. Now, Toronto holding on for dear life to the last spot right behind them, Boston, New York, Boston kind of trending one way. New York, a nice series that we'll talk about. But the Mariners, to me, are a team. that it would not surprise me if we're like there they go again. They need Julio to go, man.
Starting point is 00:28:05 You know, baseball is not normally a sport where you say that. And yeah, if the rest of the lineup does click, then yeah, they don't need Julio to go. But they need Julio to go. You know, basically a month without a homer. Tyler, Ty France is like, he needs to go. Yeah. Like there's a couple guys, not just all on Julio here.
Starting point is 00:28:23 Like, J.P. Crawford has been their best hitter. And again, that's not his deal. Right. Like he's a very good player, mostly defensively. If you're getting this offensive production from him, and the other guys were doing it, we're talking probably about them fighting for the division and being in first in that division, rather than, hey, we're looking at a wild card here. They're running back with your Twinkies.
Starting point is 00:28:51 I think if you're Seattle, you check the box, like you won the series. If you lost a series, that, you know, their deadline's going to be interesting. They also just lost two outfielders. You know, circle that. Your guy, A.J. Pollock, hamstring, and obviously Kellnick from the kick the other day. So that's, you know, that kind of stuff can change your deadline pretty quickly. So interesting for the Mariners there. Manoa, he had a, his slider looked kind of like an old Manoa slider.
Starting point is 00:29:20 So that's exciting. On the opposite end, Gossman, I think his. Vila was down on like every pitch. So if you're if you're a Blue Jays fan, sure, you never want to lose a series, but you're definitely eyeing Gossman his, his next start or whatever the next update is on that because he has been so good for them. Um, yeah. Anything else there, Trev? No, I mean, the final game, Seattle could have won two. They put runners on second and third, one out, Julio. Uh-huhio Suarez, A Eugenio Swores.
Starting point is 00:29:56 Danny Jansson. And Romano gets it done after, I mean, they blew a couple late leads the first two games. It was, I guess, if you're our Blue Jays fan, you're very happy it didn't happen in the third game as well. Nice quick prey from you. Tell me what happened in this Twins White Sox series, Trev, besides... Don't say that word again, bro. We're going to get demonetized. I think we already have.
Starting point is 00:30:21 I think this shows over Yeah What happened? Wins did what they needed to do Essentially. Buck, I think it Was that the first game at two homers? Yeah. If he gets going, that's exactly what The Twins need. I don't know if you read this stat or not,
Starting point is 00:30:41 but Dalton has a good one And this is not going to shock people About the Twins. They're like 42 and 12 when they score more than four runs. 41 and 12 when scoring four. plus runs. Their pitching has been incredible. The defense has been above average.
Starting point is 00:31:00 They just need to score some runs, man. And the offenses look better as of late, which I'm really happy for them. You know, Kierloff has been a big part of that. He has a big day. You know our guy Eddie. Julian is doing it for them. So they're getting these guys to contribute.
Starting point is 00:31:18 Buck does it in the first game. and then sunny shows up in the second game they kind of rallied there late but the last game was very impressive I guess I'll speak on that one they were or was it the second game did they hold on one second it was sunny sunny and then the nightmare Bailey Ober in the last one yes they were down three runs in the last one in the ninth I think it was 3-0 in the 9th. The final score ended up strange.
Starting point is 00:31:53 I think that's what it was. Anyways. They were down 3-0 in the 9th, and nice little rally. Kierloff gets it done. They end up tying the game, going into extras, yes, and then you have the walk-off RBI in the 12th.
Starting point is 00:32:08 Bailey Ober, yeah, he puts up a nice start there, seven straight quality start. We talk about him on the broadcast all the time. He just, like, his numbers are going to be six innings pitch, two or three earned runs. Sevenies pitch, two or three earned runs. You know, 8Ks, one walk.
Starting point is 00:32:24 That's like what he does, man. He's been a really, really nice, I don't know what it's surprise. But he didn't start the year with the rotation. But injuries force him into it, and he's just done a phenomenal job. A great guy, I'm very happy for him that he's having some success.
Starting point is 00:32:42 Yes, the pink guy thing happened, Willie Casho, and Gallo, make it back for the final game. and contribute there as well. So yeah, it was just, it was a good series. One that I think they were like, all right, like this is, this is a series we can win. Let's go get two or three. You end up sweeping.
Starting point is 00:33:00 It's great. Their record is looking better and better. Sounds easy, but man, twins should be pretty aggressive at the deadline. Their fifth in starting pitching ERA, second in whip. Their fourth in bullpen ERA, third in whip. Like, if you have that kind of pitching, which you've noted, you know, even the good twins teams, normally it's kind of the opposite. Man, adds a little
Starting point is 00:33:24 juice to that lineup and hope Kirolov is real and maybe Karea has a better second half and Buck, like you know, that division is theirs to grab and the pitching is there which that's not normally the story. Exactly. And, you know, I feel like there's
Starting point is 00:33:41 needs to be some context here for our listeners. Buck had been really struggling. So he actually got, yeah, benched for two games in Seattle before this series. The refresh. I thought they should have benched in the whole series. That's what, it's a bench. It's fine.
Starting point is 00:33:59 Yeah, he's obviously going to play again. They just were getting him a little mental break, I think, more than anything. He was out there working before the game, doing all those things by himself. I don't think he got any hits in that third game in Seattle, but first two of bats back home, kind of like, all right, let's go. first to a bads, two homers against our guy Lance Lynn. He was fired up too.
Starting point is 00:34:22 Gileito's last start for the White Sox? Yeah, I mean, there, yes. I mean, maybe one more, right? But why risk it? I risk it at this time. You know what I mean? Like, you know you're going to trade him. He had a nice start here. It's time.
Starting point is 00:34:42 I think, I think, I mean, we're about to see a flurry of trades. In my mind, I think that's fine. I hope so, right? Like, I mentally, I was trying to do that. Like, we're, you know, tomorrow's a week out. And we really, you know, we had that big Hennessus Cabrera trade, Cardinals to Toronto. Chapman's happened a long time ago. Chapman happened, but, you know, it feels like we haven't.
Starting point is 00:35:06 Chapman is a deadline trade, right? Like, the closer. Like, Cabrera is kind of like a change of pace. Hopefully we can tap into something and lefty or leader. But, like, it feels like the deadline hasn't started. And I guess that's just as exciting as it is not fun as of now. My Yanks sweep the Royals. Hurrah.
Starting point is 00:35:30 Royals, very similar record to the Oakland A's. They're one game different in the lost column. Yengees had a different lead-off hitter in every game. They went, I think they went Oswald Paraza, to Billy McKinney, to Jake Bowers. So, you know, not exist. Consistency, you know. Not exactly Jeter Damon from past years.
Starting point is 00:35:59 Rizzo has a big four for. You guys stop. Rizzo has a four for four. Basically, we walked away from this series saying, essentially make it matter. Rizzo gets off his 45 game homerless streak. Hey, he wouldn't know BGs, like for an at bat or a game. What was that about?
Starting point is 00:36:17 I think it was one at bat. Jimmy's trying to fucking change things up. Jimmy's fan fiction there is that Sean Casey, new hitting coach, got in on that, said no batting gloves. That's the difference. And Andy Pettit's coming back? What are we doing here, Booney?
Starting point is 00:36:35 Go listen to Talking Yanks. Jimmy noted at the end, he was like, it just felt like there was too much eyewash this series. No batting gloves from Rizzo. Andy Pettit's back coaching. Yukon coach was there. Danny Hurley in the booth for a little bit.
Starting point is 00:36:52 My Guy Guy. I don't know. Royals are in a tough spot. Even that final game, the Yankees opened it up on a tough play that the Royals made worse. I don't know, man. I don't know. I've got a lot of people asking what's going to happen. What are they going to do?
Starting point is 00:37:10 And I don't know. Four days ago, everybody that I follow on Yankees Twitter was sell, sell, sell. And now we're back? I've been a full retool. I'm just in like, just don't do anything stupid. Retool. G. You need an outfield.
Starting point is 00:37:29 And freaking judge walking out with Drake at Madison Square Garden. I mean, that's what ballplayers do is we just go to massive concerts and run the place. I was there. You couldn't, you can barely see me. Oh, yeah, you dapped them up first. Yeah. Camer is behind the. Right before the video kicks in.
Starting point is 00:37:47 Good. Good. Good for them. Have some fun. When you're coming back? I want to go to a Drake concert. I do. Okay. Let's go. I think it'd be fun. Let's go. That's the American League. It was kind of a little bit of a high and tight AL. I think we got some more NL and IL. And it's brought to- We're going high and tight today.
Starting point is 00:38:06 We're high and tight. Up and in all day. Don't get comfy. Know who's coming up and in? Spence, Crawford, on PPP. You guys know the name. I mean, pay-per-view has been legendary for big events for years. PPPV.com, the most convenient, most reliable, most engaging way to stream pay-per-view events. And there's no subscription required. So go get it.
Starting point is 00:38:34 Go check it out. This is one of the big boy fights. Our guy, Canobio, is hype. Hype. And Chris Algeri. And you can chat with them. at ppv.com. They got the whole streaming platform set up
Starting point is 00:38:52 where it's interactive fan chat and it's with our guys, Kenobio, Algeria, and legendary boxing writer Lance Pugmeyer. Yum. Yep. So the fight is Saturday, July 29th, 8 p.m. Eastern. And go check it out at ppv.com.
Starting point is 00:39:14 Order it now. There's a link in the description. Nothing like a big fight. Vegas, baby. Vegas. We should be out there, Treb. That's where we screwed up. I'm going. Let's go.
Starting point is 00:39:26 Spence Crawford. Go check it out at ppv.com. Shall we do a little nationally? Looks like yes. We'll start off in a city in the Midwest, the Chicago Cubbies and the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cubs take three out of four, and it's the final thing.
Starting point is 00:39:46 Oh, there's a couple close calls that could have changed it. Game-tying walk Cardinals fans? Not so much. You're out. And the Cubs might have just drove that final, final, final, final dagger through St. Louis after they tried to get hot and fend off any trade stuff. You know who's hot? Cody Bellinger.
Starting point is 00:40:09 My goodness. Three for four, two for five with four RBI. and then another home run 3 RBI game. This guy, man, Cody is a problem. And it looks good. Ian Hap, I see your two-hit day. I don't mind you. Justin Steele does his thing.
Starting point is 00:40:29 Jamison Tyone. Trying to get hot for a little bit. Cubs handle their business enough. They take three out of four from St. Louis. This was a fun one. The Atlanta Braves and the Milwaukee Brewers. These cities are. in old baseball history, right?
Starting point is 00:40:48 Nice, Jake. They split the first two. The final game, Milwaukee's holding on. Oh, no. Another short king, the little monster, Ozzy Albies, goes up top, flips the script on the entire series. What fortitude by Albies and the Braves to win four to two on that last game? Your guy, Sal Freelic, have an MLB.
Starting point is 00:41:15 debut. He goes just straight up nut job. You might hear more about him even. A couple division leaders. Austin Riley is hot, hot, hot. You might hear about him in Enfuego. Five homers in four games. Braves. Right at
Starting point is 00:41:32 the end. Steal this series. Fun one. Bryce to rank stepped on one. That was a tank. Anyways. Red sweep the dimebacks. No one cares. You got lucky. Giant sweep the net. It's been a sweeper get swept.
Starting point is 00:41:48 It's basically been where my snakes have been living recently. And the Reds sweep them. Man, Brandon Williamson, another young pitcher for Cincinnati. We haven't talked a lot about him. The Reds, they sweep this series against a good team, and it's all the names you've been hearing about. Friedel, Steer, Encarnasseon Strand, Matt McLean, always in forever.
Starting point is 00:42:11 The news today, Jonathan India, back on the block. Kind of official official. My snakes, I don't know. I don't know. We've been living a dangerous game. Luckily, another NLS team got swept, too. Reds are good. Analytics.
Starting point is 00:42:30 Giants. Nationals. Natitude, baby. The National sweep. And it's ugly in those final two. 10-1 and 6-1. McKenzie Gore drops it out of him. Josiah Gray.
Starting point is 00:42:45 Yes, Nationals. CJ Abrams is homering on his bobblehead day. We like that. We like that a lot. Dom Smith, Lane Thomas, with a hell of a play in the outfield and a three for four. Four stolen bases for Lane. Uh-oh, Giants.
Starting point is 00:43:05 Giants and snakes. What is you doing, baby? Meanwhile, the rocks take two out of three from the fish. Tough. Marlins, they scrounge the last game. Five infielers for Luis Arise. He hits it where they ain't to right field to walk it off. But C.J. Cron, your guy Nolan Jones, man, when he runs into one, feels a little different from him.
Starting point is 00:43:32 And a really nice start from Peter Lambert. Former big time prospect, maybe figuring it out, gets the callback, five-inning shutpiece. Chase Anderson and Johnny Quato dueling in that middle game pumping into my veins that is what happened in National League baseball
Starting point is 00:43:50 What are the standings, Poppy The Braves are on top of the ALE East By 11 and a half games Wow Philadelphia and Miami Tied 11 and a half games back The Mets are 46 and 53 The Nationals
Starting point is 00:44:11 41 and 58. Don't let them get hot. Brew crew, 55 and 45 with the Cincinnati Reds. One loss, a half game back. Five game winner for the Reds again, again and again. The Cubs are 48 and 51. St. Louis, 44 and 56. Half game up on the Pirates.
Starting point is 00:44:35 The Dodgers have a four-game lead in the West. Uh-oh. Four games above the snakes and the Giants. for both 54 and 46. San Diego, San Diego, San Diego, Fonty-eight and 52. Colorado Rockies, 39 and 60, the worst record in the National League.
Starting point is 00:44:55 Trev, it's always been a cron pod. I think we're starting off in Wrigley. And I do think it's important to tell this story a little bit because people might laugh, like Jake, let the Cardinals go. It's been over. at one point they win the first game of this series and it's six in a row. They're a game and a half back of the Cubbies.
Starting point is 00:45:19 The Cubs end up running the Gambit. And I don't know. I don't know what position that puts them in. I know a lot of teams are drooling over Cody Bellinger as he has another massive series. So I don't really know what to do with this. I feel like Cubs fans are flip-flopping every day between wins and loss. is whether they want to try to run it and dig deep for some hope this summer,
Starting point is 00:45:45 but I don't know if that's the smart option at this point. Yeah, the offense comes out in the first game and does their thing. And Jake, to your point, after that, they'd won 9 of 11. Right, for the cards. So you're like, hey, like, is this a thing? Is this a thing?
Starting point is 00:46:05 And then what'd they do? A stake, a final stake through the heart? Buffy the Vampire Slayer, first ever crush, I think. I could see that. That makes a ton of sense. Big into her. Big inter. You know what, that guy, Angel, who was like her love interest,
Starting point is 00:46:20 used to work out of the same gym and said, didn't like him. Okay. Didn't like him. Probably deep-rooted in my crush that I had in grade school on Sarah Michelle Geller. What's up, Sarah? I'm married now. You lost your chance. You missed out.
Starting point is 00:46:35 You missed out. Yes, and then the Cubs just. Good ball. And who returned for this series, Jake? Joey Wendell. He's pointing to Cubs in the right direction. Not Joey Wendell, no. I don't know why he said Joey Wendell. Danzby.
Starting point is 00:46:49 Yeah. Danzby comes back. So we got hot boy Danzby coming back and doing his thing. We got hot boy Cody Bellinger doing his thing. And that's how you go. Another quality start from Justin Steele going up against our guy, Jay Flair, got some stories about him, I'll tell you later, off air. Cubs put themselves back into it.
Starting point is 00:47:12 I think that's kind of where my mind goes. As one team is now just firmly out of it, what do the Cubs do here? Like what do the Cubs do? Because we've been talking about selling. We've been talking about strolling. We've been talking about belly. But now you find yourself.
Starting point is 00:47:30 And you know, you still got some work to do your five and a half games back of a wild card spot. I think you're only, you're six and a half of the Brew. recruit. Like, is it over? And it's so weird because I'll talk about some other National League teams.
Starting point is 00:47:49 And I think it is over that they're about the same way out. But I feel like a couple teams are trending one way where the Cubs are trending the other way. It's just an interesting decision time for them because we do have, we're seven days away. Yeah, I think if you're a front office, you put a little bit of the onus on them. like this was supposed to be They did too They came out and talked about Hey we make up some ground
Starting point is 00:48:13 That's gonna be the difference maker They're making up ground Well that's what I'm saying That off day today Two versus the White Sox Which you got Hendricks and Stroman Against the White Sox Those are winnable games
Starting point is 00:48:24 And then it's four at St. Louis Again that you just beat them That I don't know If you can get back to 500 By the deadline Does that change things Because then you have a home series against Cincinnati, which now you're trying to reel in two teams.
Starting point is 00:48:41 I don't know, man, I live pretty optimistic. You're walking an optimistic tightrope that I hope they put themselves in that position. And maybe it's more of that retool that I keep talking about. There's so many teams that I feel like should be retooling. But yeah, I mean, the Reds, or excuse me, the Central in general has gotten to an interesting place because now we have an NL Central team could potentially make a wildcard spot.
Starting point is 00:49:12 Like that had been out of the realm for a little bit. And now I think the Reds as of today, are they sitting in one? Wild card. The Reds are in one, yes. They're a half-game up on Arizona and the Giants who are half-game up on Philly and Miami, and then it's the Cubs at five and a half back.
Starting point is 00:49:30 So it's a jumble, and they're going to have to jump some teams, but I don't know, man. Yeah, I guess it's, I don't know. I think the smart move, nine out of ten years, would be cash in on Cody Bellinger. That's part of the reason you brought him into town.
Starting point is 00:49:49 Stromen, you know, right now there's that jumble of five teams for three spots in the NOL card. Are you going to get back in that mix? You're right, you know, they're a half game better than San Diego right now. and we're not filled with hope for them. We hope something clicks, but I don't, I don't know. I don't know. How about Miles Master Boni?
Starting point is 00:50:16 About an all-time name. About Miles Master Boni, huh? That's an all-time name. Good guy from the old country, huh? Yeah, I mean, I figured that would be maybe your standout today or, you know, hits the first career Homer. Listed 510, so he's 5'8. Like, he's kind of right up your alley. No, he's not not up my alley.
Starting point is 00:50:38 Yeah, I'm glad we hit Miles Masterbony here. And my guy Jameson, he's got me looking a little okay. I was on Chicago radio, and I was like, you know, he runs a little hot and cold, and he'd been cold for pretty much the entire first half. Cubs fans did not like what they were seeing from our guy, Jamo, Tyone. his last three. He's given up three runs or less. 19 innings pitched a 1-8-6 ERA,
Starting point is 00:51:11 3-0 in that time. So maybe J-Mo J-mo changes there for me a little bit. St. Louis, trade everyone. And they started, Ennis Cibreira. I always liked him. Well, they didn't really trade him. They DFAed him.
Starting point is 00:51:26 Funky delivery. Brewer's Braves, two first-place teams, Trevor, and as I harped on at the end of this one, Ozzy Albies, three-run homer in the eighth inning, goes from 2 to 1 to 4-2, 4-2
Starting point is 00:51:49 if you will. Ozzy Albies had gone 0 for 16 leading up to that homer. He jumps on my guy Elvis Piguero ends the Brewer's streak of 28 and 2.30. scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Man,
Starting point is 00:52:07 baseball has a way with these dumb numbers sometimes to just make things seem so much more ridiculous. And Braves, about to lose a series. Snaggett, bong. Ozzy Albies lives for stuff like that. Yeah. Who do you say doesn't give a fuck? Who are some of those guys?
Starting point is 00:52:29 Jose Siri doesn't. Ozzy Albies. He cares about the right things, your 28 and the third scoreless angs, he doesn't care about it. No. No. He got that one right, he's got his front foot outside of the batters box. And he says, I'm going to come in, big leg kick, and crush your dreams. The way he was circling the bases would also add to your case there.
Starting point is 00:52:54 Like he, he hit the home run. You know, a lot of guys hit a go-ahead Homer in the eighth inning, and they show a little more juice. Ozzie was kind of like, no, I expect this was my plan all along. Like, well, everyone else, welcome to the party. But this is what I was planning on doing. Austin Riley's on fire. And these are two just really, really good teams.
Starting point is 00:53:20 Would love to see this matchup in the playoffs. You know, the pitching for the Brewers. Yelly puts out the 10-year hype video on his IG. I wasn't involved in it. Wish I was. I was looking for it. myself but I talk about myself too much I gotta stop that. I mean, Yelly's hype video, that's kind of a crazy one
Starting point is 00:53:38 to think you'd be in there. Yeah, I guess. I guess you're right. I mean, we've shared some moments together, but maybe not to be in the tenure. Yeah. He could have been nice about it. Jeez, bro. The Braves, four players now have 20 homers. I don't know if you read that in your thing or not, but it's Olson, it's a cunia, it's Albies, and it's Riley. The only team to have that in the big leagues. Gotta love that.
Starting point is 00:54:07 This was another one of those series that it was like, they just made a big trade. So a lot of like people who used to play for the team doing their thing against the other team, William Contreras had a nice game. His first game against this former team, is that true? I guess if they haven't played this year, right? Okay. Yeah, two for four and scored twice against the former team.
Starting point is 00:54:33 and then who's the other guy I had in my head? Now I can't remember. Revenge game? Yeah, there's another one. Anyways, I'll be talking about Frelick later. He had an incredible major league debut. That was really cool to see that.
Starting point is 00:54:49 A couple nice defensive plays and a couple of bats. We'll talk about it later. You write about the Bryce Turing Homer that you mentioned. He kind of leaned back on it. He fell to a knee. Always loved when that happens.
Starting point is 00:55:01 But at the end of the day, Braves go in and they take two out of three and you're right I mean it's what a difference one swing one swing in the series and we're just like oh my God the Brewers Red Hot doing their thing what's going on but no the Braves are those guys
Starting point is 00:55:23 there's that one guy's like you're not that guy pal these are that guy they are yeah we'd be saying like Milwaukee's crazy hot right now The bullpen streak is up to, you know, 30 innings or whatever. Instead, like that, that's all over. Yeah. Your boy, Despell Hernandez makes his MLB debut as well,
Starting point is 00:55:47 strikes out all three batters. Now his last 27 batters he's faced, AA, AAA, and the Braves. So he's been, it's something clicked for my guy, Deisbell. He struck out 20 of the last 27 that have stood in the, box against him. Oh, I don't know. There's Braves might have found something else there. Red snakes, Trev. Oh, what happened? I don't know, man. Two good teams.
Starting point is 00:56:16 You need to go out there and present the lineup again and do all that stuff. Two and seven road trip. We hate that. I thought for sure this last game, Corbyn Carroll hits. He tied it, right? He accidentally hits a home run to left center field, 425. feet. I thought they were going to do it. And no, eighth inning, Reds had a one run lead. I think snakes had some action on the basis before that. And then Spencer Steer and Encanasio and Strand back to back hits. Three more runs on the board. Ellie De La Cruz gets his first lead off Homer in this game. Yeah, I mean, look, a couple good swings. When you have two good teams matching up, that's probably what's going to happen most of the time.
Starting point is 00:57:08 You know, the snakes are in the game. And then Matt McLean, first game, hits a grand slam, gets it to that five, or excuse me, six run lead. Yeah. Oh, they've battled back a little bit. Once you get up five, six runs, I mean, that's kind of ball game if you're playing against a good team. That's just the bottom line.
Starting point is 00:57:27 So big swing there. L.A. to Cruz during this series kind of had been struggling for quite some. time. I think he ended up hitting a homer the last game, a lead off home and last game like you just mentioned. No, the Reds, you're right, and it sounds basic, but all of these were games. I mean,
Starting point is 00:57:48 the middle game that the Reds win 4 to 2, three of those runs were back to back to back Homer. So, yes. Like, that's not, it's not like they, you know, they chipped away and, you know, they scored one in the first, 100%. and the fifth three straight swings that ended up dictating the game.
Starting point is 00:58:08 And like you said, McLean in the first and that big rally in the last game, the first time they've had three consecutive homers since, your boys, Kyle Farmer, Malibu, Mike, and my Stuart Fairchild, went back to back to back in 2022. Your favorite players, favorite players? Yes. Right there. And even in the game three, we're talking about,
Starting point is 00:58:33 It was close. Bottom of the eighth, four three since he has the lead. That's a close game. Anything can happen. Spencer Steer, Christian and Carnaccio and Strand, which both came from the twins. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:58:44 For Tyler Malley, who's not going to pitch for the twins again. They would like some of that offense over there in Minnesota, and they make it a seven to three game. Like it's a couple of innings here, a couple innings there, but the Reds, you know, that's what a good team will do. So snaps for them,
Starting point is 00:59:02 D-backs. still you're still there you're still in a playoff spot it's or are they we just talked about there yeah they're they're they're still in because san francisco who were so yeah the philly and miami are the half game behind yes who we're just about to talk about reds i've got a little more coming in a little bit because i'm i'm very interested um and what's what do you talk about i forgot yeah we'll get there um trev your giants get swept by the gnats a little er who it's a little What is you doing, baby? Yeah, a little bit.
Starting point is 00:59:35 A little what is you doing, baby. The show used to be filled with what is you doing babies. Now, you know, they're a little more targeted. This is a big one, especially with the snakes doing that. Right now, the snakes have an L4 next to them. The Giants have an L5 next to them. Would have been a proper time for either of them to get a little separation from each other. Instead, I like shouting out dudes.
Starting point is 01:00:01 I know I already mentioned All-Starge's I agree. McKenzie Gore puts five shutpiece on there. Then C.J. Abrams and Lane Thomas, man, a bunch of big games from both of them. The Nats, they go out and win these games, man. They boat race them in those final two. I don't know. Do you need to call Gabe?
Starting point is 01:00:19 Should we call Gabe right now? I mean, the offense didn't show up. You scored five runs in the three-game set. That's going to lend yourself to getting swept. It's the bottom line here. CJ Abrams. and my guy guy, Lane Thomas. He's bald, isn't he?
Starting point is 01:00:33 Do I have a thing for bald guys? Oh. Is Lane Thomas bald? I think he is. I didn't have him as bald. And I don't think he is. Like Google searches. I haven't seen a bald image.
Starting point is 01:00:48 Okay, fine. I might have messed that. I'm sorry, Lane. I do like you, though. Baseball players have a lot of pictures with hats on, so you never full-mail. But I think he's haired. Okay.
Starting point is 01:01:02 Big series, good starts. I don't think we need to go too deep into this. C.J. Airburn's homered on his bobblehead night. I like that a lot. I do. I do. That's nice. Giants.
Starting point is 01:01:19 Who do they play next? That's what's important. Because, Treve, you're right. I think we keep it moving. Every team is going to have series like this every year. It's just how do you respond? Man, they've got a funk. They've got a one-game makeup with Detroit.
Starting point is 01:01:33 And then they're hosting Oakland for two. So, okay. Handle your business now because you just didn't handle your business. And Lane Thomas, man, I wouldn't be surprised. I think you get to him for two and a half years. It really feels like the light bulb's gone off. And the Nats could probably get a nice haul for a guy that they wouldn't be sure they could get a nice haul for.
Starting point is 01:01:59 and their timeline is more two years than one year. So he's an interesting one for me. I think a team can really talk themselves into the value of Lane Thomas. Don't you take him away from my name? Yeah, I'm sorry. I just put that together in my head. I'm sorry, Nat.
Starting point is 01:02:15 The team I've seen most connected are your twins. Ooh, power righty? They need it. They haven't hit lefties. Carnacion, strands, steer. I hit lefties. I hit lefties. I thought we're done talking about you.
Starting point is 01:02:31 Oh, yeah. I got to stop that. Rockies. Rockies take two out of three from the Marlins. Always happy for my and Kelsey Wingert's Rocks. They had a bark at the park night in Miami. Kelsey had some great content around that. Miami salvages it.
Starting point is 01:02:47 Luisarize with the walkoff infield in. The Lambert thing was pretty cool. Gets called back up. Has one of his best outings of his major league careers. miss most of the last three seasons due to Tommy John. So that's if you're looking for a guy to root for. Otherwise, fish like, hey, we got to, Trev, your fish, we got to strain it out soon. We were, we, we've been wondering about the fish as they've been good.
Starting point is 01:03:15 Bulls gold? I don't know. I hope not. I mean, look, it's the same thing as what the twins are going through. Like, they need to score. When they score, they win. They won a lot of close games because they do have the. the pitching. I guess you got to give credit to Colorado, a couple, or a bunch of homers in the
Starting point is 01:03:33 first games basically gets it done. No offense there by the fish, one run in the first game, three runs in the second, and it took an extra inning walkoff for them to win the last one. Rockies, if you didn't see it, I'm sure a lot of people did. They brought in a fifth infielder, which I didn't even know you were allowed to do. I guess I didn't really think about it. they brought in a fifth infielder they left the right field open because Luis Rises famously goes the other way with pitches and he's like,
Starting point is 01:04:01 no, you know what? If you're going to leave it open for him, he's going to hit it there. It gets to walk off to salvage the series. But yeah, I mean, look, it's for the fish, he wanted to call them the snakes. For the fish, it's if you don't have, if your offense
Starting point is 01:04:18 isn't going to show up at all, you're going to start to lose a bunch of games. I mean, that's the bottom line. I guess that's like understatement of the year. Yeah, that's my analytics. Lost eight games coming out of the break. They finally break that. And yeah, they've, they go,
Starting point is 01:04:35 they got that weird two-gamer with Tampa, and then they host Detroit and Philly. So let's, uh, let's see where our fishies land in the next week. As we land in some interleague play, in the interleague play, new partner alert. And this is a big one for us. fit bod, yep. You're like, wait, is that the company you started, Jake?

Starting point is 01:06:17 Dial it up. Treve, you have your hand raised. People are not going to like this. Or maybe they will. They should like it. Perfect. I believe that one of the biggest secrets of life is that you need to work out for like everything, for all of your health, your regular health, your mental health.
Starting point is 01:06:40 Like this is something. If you haven't been doing it and maybe you feel a little bit down or whatever, like let this be the start to something. because if you can get in the gym consistently or do whatever you have to do, just move around consistently, I promise you, your life will be better. It's like the easiest,
Starting point is 01:07:01 most well-known secret that doesn't get talked about enough. I mean, it's a thousand percent. It's a thousand percent true. I think all of us have felt it. Like if you have an active part or if you're eating and healthy and exercise, healthy, you're like, wow, I feel great. Oh, yeah, I should do that more.
Starting point is 01:07:25 Let's do some Interleague baseball because it kicks off with a bang. Mike Breen, your Dodgers, Trev, announcing themselves to this 20-23 season. They put up double digits in the first two games. Get out of here, Dane Dunning. Throw with the other arm, they said, as they put five runs up on him in three innings. They get to the Hing Dog a little bit, old friends there. And then they open up the final game. How about a little grand slam in the first inning?
Starting point is 01:08:00 Get your broomsticks ready. Reminder, though, Texas doesn't care, and they're built different. They come back. Those were the only four runs the Dodgers got, and they put up an eight spot. Zeke Duran, Brad Miller, backyard Brad. We haven't seen him a lot. But those Dodgers in the first game, yeah, Freddie Freeman, J.D. Martinez.
Starting point is 01:08:25 How about the freight train David Peralta kicking into gear a little bit for them? Four hit day at the office for him. Two powerhouses. Lincoln up, Dodgers get the best of them this time. Philly's guard dogs. The guard dogs, they win a couple one-run games to kick it off. Six, five, one, nothing in that second game. Issa Bive.
Starting point is 01:08:49 Tanner Bibby, he outduels Zach Wheeler to get the one-nothing win. And then on that final game, David Frye, channeling Travis Fryman for old Cleveland fans. He hits a big homer to tie it up and two outs in the ninth off. Kimbril, Philly goes nuts in the tent. They put up a crooked number to not get swept. Guard dogs take two out of three in this one. The Sox ends on Sunday night baseball. They take two out of three from the Mets.
Starting point is 01:09:25 I feel like the Mets have the most series where they won the first game and lost the next two. I feel like 100% I would make that bet right now. They win the first game and it got suspended, a little rainy affair, moves to the next day. Seng and Cutter Crawford neither had their best day at the office. Nim O'Bady and McNeil get it done. Tristan Kosses. Maybe circle that. He has a big boy series, including a couple homers off.
Starting point is 01:09:56 Max Scherzer, put those notches on your belt, kid. And then Devers, Duval, Wong, they contribute in the final game. Metsi. Sox take two out of three. They get back on track. Mets do not. And the Padres, take two out of three from the Tigers, including a 14 run. winner in that first game.
Starting point is 01:10:20 Jackson Wolf made his major league debut. You think you have sex? Jackson Wolf for the Padres made his debut. He gets the win in five innings as the offense goes nutty. Tiger salvage the series. Been saying that a lot. Torkelson squashes the bug. Another big boy homer from him.
Starting point is 01:10:41 And Alex Fido, big start, six innings. One hit, zero. Ernie. Padres win. Halos do the same against the Pirates. Also, not too big of a surprise. They got shut out in that second game. Otherwise, they score runs.
Starting point is 01:10:59 Andy Rodriguez gets his Major League first home run. The M&M boys, Mustakis and Moniac, in the first game. And then, yeah, O'Tani, he shows up with a homer in the last game. After he pitched the first game, because that's right. He's an absolute. freak, and that's what happened in Interleague baseball. Kron. We've drawn. And it starts out with probably the best series.
Starting point is 01:11:31 Dodgers Rangers. Like I said, Dodgers offense explodes the first two. And then, yeah, you're sitting there. You just lost two games. Max Muncie puts a grand slam on you in the first inning. I like it, man. I like that. I think a lot of teams would have folded,
Starting point is 01:11:48 and we'd be here saying, like, yeah, Baseball. Dodgers are good, blah, blah, blah. They come back. They blank them and put up eight. Good for Texas. But also, you asked me the other day, like, Dodgers, are they, can you pencil them in for the West? I still don't think you can't.
Starting point is 01:12:07 Honestly, pencil, yes. You can't use pen yet. But, man, they're here again. And it's, the offense has been just absolutely crushing it. As evidence in this first two games, they put up 27 runs in the first two games. I'm going to say that again for you people. 27! It's incredible what they've been able to do because we talk about injuries for a lot of teams.
Starting point is 01:12:33 I mean, they're starting pitching is just not who we, they've lost a lot of starting pitching. Okay, even in this series, if you talk to Dodgers fans before the year and said, hey, you're going to have, well, Tony Gonson, yes, but Bobby Miller and Emmett Sheehan in there, you'd be like, okay, is this like a spot star? Like, did one person get hurt? No, it's a bunch of people. But they're that kind of team that has the depth. You know, there's a lot of the guys they signed just to have his like as depth in the outfield that really shine. You talk about David Peralta. Jason Hayward's having, you know, I haven't looked at his numbers as of late,
Starting point is 01:13:09 but he was hitting a ball very hard early on in the year. So that's there a problem. I think that when we end up looking at the year, at the end of the year. I think the Dodgers are on top of that division, and I do think they sort of run away with it. I could see like a four or five game gap there at the end of the year. They just have the experience.
Starting point is 01:13:38 We talk about that a lot here. Like they just, they have the experience and the guys there that it doesn't matter who they're playing or what situation they're in, like they're able to perform. That's kind of what I feel like about the. Dodgers and the Rangers, you're right. A testament to how good they've been to be able to come back in that last game,
Starting point is 01:13:58 because that is, you're talking zero momentum. You get absolutely crushed in the first two games, and then you get down for nothing. It's very different. You could just chalk it up and say, hey, man, it's not our series. It ain't our series. But, I mean, offensively, they are top two offenses in baseball. I go back and forth between them and the Braves. A lot of statistics they lead.
Starting point is 01:14:22 So I feel like they're also a team that's just very confident in any situation there in because they know they can score in bunches, which they did. Some other guys besides the guys you know, my guy Johnny DeLuca with a couple big catches in that first game that who knows where Texas offense goes from there if those end up dropping. And there's, I've got some Freddie Freeman fun facts that basically just sum up that he's the best hitter in baseball. I know Ranger fans are a little nervous about Martin Perez. I had some of them telling me that, you know,
Starting point is 01:14:59 they might be in the ballgame for a hired gun this trade deadline, so I'm excited to see that. Poor Seeger, out. Yeah. It's going to be tough for the Rangers. They've done it. They did it before. He was out at the beginning of the year,
Starting point is 01:15:14 but obviously he's been crushing it and a big blow to them. So we'll see how they respond. That's always interesting. to see. Highest war of Highest war of Al hitters. He's a stud.
Starting point is 01:15:29 He's a stud. I mean, he's your guy. Yeah. And not having him definitely has an effect on the clubhouse, but you know, you can either shrink
Starting point is 01:15:37 or rise to the occasion. I think I'll, I'll paint the ladder there. Dodgers, out of the break, nine game road trip, one six and three. Meets,
Starting point is 01:15:47 Baltimore, Texas. Two or three in each series. Talk about winning series, that's what good teams do. Must be nice. That's, that's nice. Guardians do the same to the Phil's. Couple talented teams here that ends up in an extra inning Philly's comeback win. We'd be a lot more hype for those guard dogs
Starting point is 01:16:10 if they busted out the broomsticks, but they hold serve at home. I mentioned Bybee, a guy that could have been a standout on a given week, seven innings two hits against that Phillies offense. That's very impressive. And yeah, you got a J-Ram four-hit day in there. David Frye trying to be Superman for this team. He's had a couple late-inning heroics early on to his career. Hey, and this is a little weird talking bit.
Starting point is 01:16:38 Not weird talking baseball. Cleveland's third sellout this season in their first back-to-back since 2018. So we're hot in the streets, baby. Now this actually could have been a Guardian suite. Easily. They win the first two games, close games, great. In the last inning, they're in the ninth. I believe it was Miles Straw on first base.
Starting point is 01:17:08 Craig Kimball in there, slow to the plate. He takes off great jump, going to be safe. Andre Semenez, swings the bat, fouls the ball off. has to go back. Now, still first, or guy on first, next pitch, double play.
Starting point is 01:17:27 So now nobody's on base. Then Fry ties it up with the homer when it could have been a walk-off homer. I know it's different. Maybe you pitch a little bit differently with a guy on second. You know, nobody on first.
Starting point is 01:17:41 I get it, but it could have been a walk-off homer for the sweep. Then we're talking about a completely different series. but that didn't happen then the Phillies put up a bunch of runs in that Manfred ruled
Starting point is 01:17:54 10th inning but another thing of note from this series we saw Bryce Harper play first base made a nice little catch of course he would just do kind of like a really aggressive play at first that's what he does
Starting point is 01:18:10 there was a little theatrics involved but oh stop it that's Bryce playing Bryce ball as someone who loves theatrics I'm about it because Bryce Harper playing first base diving into the camera well, absolutely, man, fire me up.
Starting point is 01:18:28 More. You looked good over there. He looked good. He made a nice pick. God, I can't believe, felt like we were talking about that so long ago when it happens. Phillies don't care.
Starting point is 01:18:44 No, they don't care. Phillies half game back. They'll be fun. Phillies don't care. Red Sox met. This is two ships heading in different directions. I think we were kind of leaving just a little bit of leash for the Mets to win us back over or change any part of the narrative in the socks within, you know, exclamation point on Sunday night baseball.
Starting point is 01:19:09 They put that out there, and, man, Paxton gives them another good start. When he's healthy and out there, he's been good. Tristan Kossis, man. I know Sox fans have, they've liked young Tristan and they've been hoping for the breakout and it may be, maybe happen at 816 OPS. And he had balls and kind of like, he has that look on his face,
Starting point is 01:19:35 which I like, just shows me the confidence he has himself. Jaron Durant also, another guy that Sox fans are, they're calling him Corby and Carol Light a little bit. Maybe that's me, I don't know. but a great series for them and like we're
Starting point is 01:19:50 they're headed in the right direction dude it's Boston Red Sox team they don't give up there's a lot of fight their offense is very good they have the young guys the dynamic players that you just talked about and you know Turner's been great for them and he's contributed so like it's like a nice
Starting point is 01:20:08 mixture on their roster Brian Beyo Brian Breyo Brian Beo Brian Beo obviously how about I want to give the Mets just a little credit. They don't deserve a lot. But Kodai Sanga. Yeah. Real nice play
Starting point is 01:20:22 on a chopper down the third baseline. Typically pitchers stink. Right. I'd feel in their position. Save a few. But he made a really nice play. I wanted to shout that out. But really, really, it's the bats of the Red Sox
Starting point is 01:20:38 that have kept this team afloat and won them the series and their, where are they? What's, they are? are two games back of a wild card spot. The Yankees are as well. We know what they just did against the Royals, but it feels like two different scenarios.
Starting point is 01:20:57 Well, the Red Sox were 40 and 42. Two games under 500 on June 29th. They win their last game in June, and they're 12 and 5 in July. So 13 and 5 has gotten them to a dangerous position, and that's an offense that no one wants to see. Trev, I'll get you a little riled up. Tuesday night, Braves Red Sox.
Starting point is 01:21:22 Yeah, me. Strider Bayo. Yeah. Yum. Maybe we get together and watch that. Wasn't there a Boston Braves, or was that never a thing? Yeah, there was a Boston Braves. So why didn't you mention that?
Starting point is 01:21:36 You talked about the historical significance of Milwaukee and the Braves. I don't know. I'm a hater. You are a hater. I'm always thinking about Henry, Hank Aaron. While we're here When I was looking at the Red Sox page I saw Bayo listed as on the 40-man roster
Starting point is 01:21:52 Not on the MLB team And I was like, what funny business is this about On the paternity list So he'll be a new dad Wow So he's gonna fuck him That's one of Dad strength Bayo
Starting point is 01:22:03 About to tear up the Braves I need that I hope not Oh Trev the final two Well I was going to say Good team bad team but Padres Tigers,
Starting point is 01:22:16 Padres take two out of three as it feels like they survive again. I'm going to have to check out, I mean, we're getting a little too H at the end of this episode because now we have to talk about my guy, Jackson Wolf again. But the last two sets,
Starting point is 01:22:32 Padres, Tigers, Angels, pirates, the two teams that we would have voted to win those series do take two out of three games. Future Tampa Bay Ray wants, Soto does this thing in the first game. Two home runs there. So shout out to the raise. You're going to get a good one.
Starting point is 01:22:51 I don't know where you're going to play him, but you'll figure it out. Then, yes, another massive offensive explosion. And J. Dubb making that start for them, which is great. Padres, what's you going to do? This is a team that I can't wrap my head around. I don't know which way they're going to go. there still talks about the Snell and Hader trades scenarios.
Starting point is 01:23:17 I wish I could say, no, don't do it, don't do it. You're right in the thick of things, but I don't know if I can say that about this team, man. We've given them quite some time. And right now we're talking about a Padres team that's six games back of a wild card. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:23:33 I don't know. It's weird because I'll talk about the mariners who are four and a half back. And I'm like, oh, they got a chance. I feel like, I really feel like they could go. but I don't necessarily feel that way about the Padres. And I want to. I picked him in our second half draft. I want them to have an incredible run here.
Starting point is 01:23:55 It could happen. Yes. Pittsburgh, Texas, Colorado coming up. They just won against Detroit and Toronto. I don't see what hands you can force. I don't know. I hope it's not too little too late. And it feels that way currently.
Starting point is 01:24:17 but you can change our minds on it. Let's give a little bit of love to our favorite player on the Padres, Hassan Kim. Yeah. Leads a team of B-war at four and a half, which is already an excellent season.
Starting point is 01:24:34 We still got some time to go. He'll add on to it. The Padres, I don't know, did you read this? He'd haven't had a five-war second baseman since Mark Loretta. Mark Loretta could play. Mark Loretta is a ball player.
Starting point is 01:24:46 Mark Loretta could play. stop saying Juan Soto to Tampa. That's not happening. It's just not. You don't know anything. It's just not. Angels take two out of three from Pirates, Pirates. Hey, a lot of kids.
Starting point is 01:25:01 I mentioned Indy's first homer. Henry Davis has a two-homer night at the ballpark. Okay, okay. They lose two out of three. And angels, hey, if you say you like the Mariners, the angels are toe-for-toe with them. as their big questions lie everywhere else but on the baseball field.
Starting point is 01:25:22 Oh, I didn't even talk about that. Buster-only, what, you didn't ask Buc Scho-Walter about trading Scherzer and Verlander when you interviewed him during the game? No, that didn't happen. We're wrapping it up. We're wrapping it up. You're done.
Starting point is 01:25:35 Malibu Mike home run. I saw Otani's Homer Live, which was nice, man. It's pretty cool. Keller gave him a 3-1 slider in, waved at it bad and then I think he threw him another one that he fouled off and then another one and he's like bro you can't do that to me not the third it was a rocket the center field that thing got out of there in a hurry and as he's coming around he gets back in the dugout
Starting point is 01:26:01 and it's so funny to see Eddie Escobar top step giving him a high five and then Malbu Mike right there in his number eight jersey leader of the clubhouse Mike Bustakis it's just Man. Baseball's funny. It is. It really is. Should be the three of you up there. Let's do our standout performances.

Starting point is 01:27:37 Woo! You're standout. You know I love young guys. in the big bigs. I'm going to go with a short king. Oh, 23-year-old making his major league debut with the Brew Cruel, Srelick, famously drafted in the first round in 2021
Starting point is 01:28:04 out of Boston College. He comes up and has a banger of a debut. He went three for three with two RBIs. He hit the game tying and winning RBI. in his debut. First hit of his career. Grounded the third baseman, but they're in the shift,
Starting point is 01:28:23 so he beats it out. The game tying hit is a hit him where they ain't. Now the shortstop is shifted over. It's right to the shortstop position. Ain't nobody there. Has a sack fly that brings in the game winning run. Also, to go along with it, he had two really nice catches in the outfield.
Starting point is 01:28:42 And what I loved, and the reason I gave him this, because there's a lot of people that are very deserving. It's the debut eyes. Now, keep an eye on this going forward. When guys make their debut, the eyes are big. They have never felt, I'm serious about this. You've never felt adrenaline coursing through your body like you do when you make your
Starting point is 01:29:07 major league debut. And he makes these catches. And I know he's telling us, so this is a good ball player. Okay, first rounder, just done really well. the minor leads. But you feel like you can do anything in your major day debut, especially when it goes well. Like it can be scary too.
Starting point is 01:29:24 And maybe that adrenaline affects you negatively. But the guys that could handle it initially, you feel like Superman out there, dude. You feel like you can do anything. You feel like you can jump higher, run faster than you've ever done before. And you can tell that's the way he felt. As he made that catch up against the wall, I believe this one was against Ozuna.
Starting point is 01:29:42 His eyes were like, oh, can I just do that? Everyone's screaming, going nuts. Really cool to see. So shout out, a great debut. His family was in attendance. Three for three with two ribbies and all those things happening. That's worthy of my standout performance. I mean, first impression, man.
Starting point is 01:29:59 You only get one. And what a one for him. He, uh, 69th overall prospect in baseball by fan graphs. Nice. A higher, technically a higher prospect than Julie Weamer, according to them. And yeah, I guess, you know, a lot of trade deadline and all that coming up. Bryce Terang, another big prospect. He steps on one.
Starting point is 01:30:24 They call up a Freelic, Boston College Boy, by the way. That, yeah, I guess I don't want to say my concern for Brewers is that they're going to let all these young guys run out there and figure it out, which is good and bad. Like, there's going to be highs and lows that comes with that. That's the young guy game that for the first place, Brewer, you know, right now the second half of their lineup is listed as Monasterio, Freelich, Miller, Terang, and Perkins. And I don't know, it's a lot of the same brew crew conversation we've done a lot.
Starting point is 01:31:00 Countering myself, it's exciting, though. A lot of young guys, and a lot of them have shown flashes. It's just doing it regularly and bottling that up. What a debut by Freelich, though? A lot of Vinny Retino. highlights, BPD said. Pregame show. Yeah, watched a lot of the pregame. Vinnie's the man.
Starting point is 01:31:22 Vinnie's becoming a star. Becoming. Well, he had the battle, you know, his blackjackbacker out addiction. That's true. That's a joke, people. Sheesh, he doesn't like when I say that. He hates that. Trev, I'm going a little, I'm keeping it in the outfield.
Starting point is 01:31:42 Love a good theme. I'm going with a guy who's a little more established. a guy I talk about as a fun free agency number if you ever want to mess around and think about what he's going to rake in at some point. Kyle Tucker had a three homer day at the ballpark. You know, analytics, that's good. He, uh, sometimes I just get lost in this dude's stat lines because he's, he's now having almost tied for his best season at the major league level.
Starting point is 01:32:17 Quick reminder, he's 26. 26. That's the same age. A lot of guys make their major league debut. And on the year, he is now 302, 379 on base, a 514 slugging in 893 OPS, 1.46 OPS plus. Without him, you know, the Astros would be in a funky place this year, IMO. He, one of the best all-around players in baseball, he has 17 homers, he has 18 stolen bases.
Starting point is 01:32:55 So, you know, just on the chase for 30-30. He had 30 homers last year, 25 steals last year. And last year he did win a gold glove in the outfield, too. So just a reminder, Kyle Tucker's still there, and he's one of the best all-around players in baseball. And a three-homer day, he'll get King Tucker the shout-out. I love watching Kyle Tucker play baseball. Anyone that listens to this show understands that,
Starting point is 01:33:23 yeah, he's having a hell of a year, and he is a hell of a ball player, man. I mean, you draw up a team, you want a guy like Kyle Tucker on it. A guy that can play defense, they can steal you a bag, they can hit and also hit for power. I mean, he is a five-tool player.
Starting point is 01:33:41 Yeah. You don't see too many of those guys around. I mean, I'd like to know, like, They have to have some sort of baseline for this, but who are the five tool players in the big leagues? How many of them really are there? What do you think? Off the top of your head,
Starting point is 01:33:57 five tools, a guy that can do everything above average? So, you think there's 20? Contact hit, power hit, speed, range and arm? Yes. I think it would be... You think 30? Do you think every team has one? No. I think it would...
Starting point is 01:34:18 I think it would shock you. There's definitely levels to it, right? Because I used to call Eddie Escobar 5-tool-Light. Because in a way... He's not a 5-tool-play. A couple years ago, Eddie Escobar could kind of do everything on a baseball field. I don't think he'd run.
Starting point is 01:34:36 He had a little... I don't think he's ever been above average. Get some swipes, I guess. But that's what I'm saying. So it just becomes confusing where do you... Where do you draw the line on one guy's tool or the other.
Starting point is 01:34:49 And Kyle Tucker... I don't think Eddie's ever hit for average either. No offense to my guy Eddie Escobar, I'm just saying. You know, in 2019 when Eddie Escobar 269 led the league in triples, 35 homers moving around the... You know... Stretch.
Starting point is 01:35:09 You're soft. Can you tell me who's hot, dude? Dirt Nasty's on Fuego. That means I'm on fire, baby. Like Waco. horse I'll tell you who is in Fuego. My favorite portion of the show for the series, your guy could tell Marte Arizona's second base. And he went six for 10 with two homers and five ribbies. How about Max Muncie, Dodgers third baseman? He went five for 13, two homers,
Starting point is 01:35:36 seven ribbies. How about Lane Thomas, Washington? My guy famously not balled. Six for 13, two doubles a homer, three RBI. Four swipes. Mashed a national's record with four swipes on Sunday versus San Francisco. My guy Michael A. Taylor, my friend, was the last national to do this, and that was in 2018 for the week. And this guy, boy, oh boy, he is something else. I just broke my chalk. I just noticed. Oh, shit. I smashed it down there. Austin Riley smashed his baseballs. He went 10 for 25 in this week. Hold on. Clear it up. Clear it up. There we go. 10 for 20. 25, Jake. He had 16 ribbies.
Starting point is 01:36:24 How many games? In the week. God. In a week. Seven games? Six games. He had six homers, too. Unreal.
Starting point is 01:36:35 Braves could really, Breaves could really use him having a big second half. That's what they need. Yeah, they could. How about Freddie Freeman? Former Braes? Los Angeles Dodgers. Famous.
Starting point is 01:36:44 14 for 24, three homers, seven. He scored 13 runs, people. He became the first player in AL NO history with 20 homers, 35 doubles, 125 hits, 10 steals and 40 walks before August 1st. I'm going to read that again. Freddie Freeman became the first player in baseball history? Is that what that means? AL and NL history, I don't know another league.
Starting point is 01:37:10 With 20 plus homers, 35 plus doubles, 125 plus hits and 10 plus steals, 40 plus walks. Before August 1st. Holy shit. Five tool, Fred? I don't know, I guess. We saw those swipes. Holy!
Starting point is 01:37:29 He became the first Dodgers player ever, obviously, because he was the first player in history to do it, but for 20 homers and 35 doubles, 55 extra base hits besides his triples before August 1st. That's a joke. Okay, let's move on. Oakland's starting pitcher Luis Medina,
Starting point is 01:37:45 two games he pitched. 10 and two thirds, five hits, only one earned run for a point. 84 whip and the r a go get him this is what i'm talking about now the two weeks from july 10th through the 23rd alex kirillov a aka my guy excuse me i wished upon a star for him famously go check out that clip he went 12 for 37 over those two weeks three doubles a triple four homers 14 rb i's for a one dot oneer you love to see it have a baltimore's relief pitcher mike Balman.
Starting point is 01:38:20 In your book for sure. Four games. He pitched seven innings in those four games. Only gave up four hits, no earned runs. Seven Ks. That's a zero ERA, people. Bomin's 7 and O record is the most wins without a loss by any pitcher in baseball this season.
Starting point is 01:38:34 We're doing things here. And how about George Sorriana? Where does he play? Ooh, you're fish. Leaf pitcher for the fish. Two games, sevenings pitch. That's a nice, those are some nice long outings right there.
Starting point is 01:38:48 zero earned runs, zero hits. He only walked two people. He had a 0.29 whip, 0ERA. Since July 1st, Sorriano has allowed only two earned runs and a 0.95 opponent's average in 12 and 2 thirds innings pitch. And that, my friends, is Susan Fuego. Incredible. As always, Trev, not enough shows giving George Soriano and Mike Blumman
Starting point is 01:39:13 the stage that they deserve, because they're affecting your team in a big one. way. We're a little different. Speaking of affecting your team in a big way, the I.L segment, the vaunted IL. Not a lot of names, both directions, and that's okay. I will mention Yankees catcher Jose Trevino. One of the plattie glove, he's out for the year.
Starting point is 01:39:36 Corey Seeger, like you mentioned, he's in a little time up. A.J. Pollock. Gabriel Moreno, been catching, playing a lot for my snakes. He goes on the I.L. Returning. Danesby Swanson. you gave him the shout out. Jake Bowers, who is leading off for the Yankees,
Starting point is 01:39:54 Joe Kelly back in that White Sox pen, will he get moved? Joe Kelly seems to always be pitching in a CS. Just go back to the Dodgers. Why not? I kind of like him on the Rangers. Oh, Joe Kelly trade season is here. Those are your injuries. And you know that leads us to the final segment of the show.
Starting point is 01:40:15 Coach Trev I am going to give out the Bob Lee Swagger Award Bob Lee Bob Lee Bob Lee Swagger Award Okay Do you have any idea where I'm going with this?
Starting point is 01:40:34 I don't think so I have an affinity in my heart for Bob, Bob Lee, Bob Lay the Sports Center old anchor that I don't think you're going there Bob Lee Swagger is a fictional I ask him. Uh-oh.
Starting point is 01:40:50 The Atlanta Braves have acquired. Taylor Hearn. Wow. Friend of the program. That team knows talent. And Pierce Johnson earlier today. That team knows talent. A bomb.
Starting point is 01:41:11 All right. Wow. Bobby Swagger is a fictional character created by Stephen Hunter. He's a, It's a series of novels That you may or may not know It's about a Vietnam War veteran And his life after
Starting point is 01:41:29 Famously, there was a movie made Called The Shooter with Mark Wahlberg Yeah If you see in the movie, it's entertaining It's, you know, if you like that, Comeback Stories, you know I'm not going to spoil the movie for people but at the end scene,
Starting point is 01:41:51 Mark Wahlberg vindicates himself. It's just a good movie. Go check it. The reason I'm calling it the Bobby Swagger Award, first of all, Kate Marr in the movie Hot. Oh. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:42:05 Yeah. In the movie, do you know what they call Mr. Bobby Swagger? I don't. Gunner. You know who's really good of baseball? Gunner Gunner
Starting point is 01:42:22 Gunner with an A though Don't spell it with an E Gunner Henderson We talk about the Orioles Why are they so good Oh well the bullpen's been so good Felix Batista Yanir Cano We've had some starting pitchers do their thing
Starting point is 01:42:39 And Adley Rushman's our guy And you know what people I'm sick of it Gunner Henderson Go check the stats He has been going off. Since the beginning of June, until now, Jake, Gunner Henderson has had 165 plate appearances, 150 events. In those 150 events,
Starting point is 01:43:07 293, 352, 587, 4 at 938 OPS. He's 22 years old, I'm here. Okay? This guy is just getting started. He gets overshadowed on that, team. But this is a guy that's going to be there forever, crushing your AL East team's dreams because he can do it offensively. He can do it defensively. He made some really, really nice plays in that Tampa series. And when you have guys like that, make a league minimum,
Starting point is 01:43:45 723 grand. That is how. The Orioles better go out. out and get some people because you're paying a lot of your stars absolutely nothing gunner henderson is one of those stars you got to go do it um i love watching this guy play is he five tool i don't know if he runs well enough for he's got five swipes on the year um and maybe he doesn't hit enough for average the average is at 247 now but he slugs he still gets on base he's a big part of the reason the aureos are where they're at which is in first place in the eight
Starting point is 01:44:22 at least. So I wanted to give the Bobby Swagre reward to my Guy Gunner and just kind of highlight him a little bit. 22 years old. He just turned 22 on June 29th. This guy is going to be haunting you, Jake, for a long time. So snaps for Gunner. Congratulations. You just got the
Starting point is 01:44:40 Bobby Swagger Award. He's awesome. And yeah. Annie Glover is in that movie too. He is in that movie. That one scene in the gilly suit. Treb, I mean, he's got an argument. It's where the five-tool conversation would be a fun one because, you know, that batting average you mentioned for the first month,
Starting point is 01:45:00 for the first two months it was atrocious. And now he's been lights out. He's playing shortstop, third, and DH. And he's been batting primarily leadoff. So, yeah, man, that's top prospect in baseball, leading off most games. That changes your whole team's form. formula. Someone hit me up on the streets yesterday and he's like, he's like, the Orioles are
Starting point is 01:45:27 for real. Like, yeah, man, like, they can end a game after six innings. And their lineup is just a problem. It's not guys you know yet if you're not in the baseball world, but you will. And Gunner's one of them. And he's a, that guy's a problem. Absolute problem. So I'm glad you're giving him the love he deserves. I'm going to give the careful with grandma's recipe award. You know, I know I come from a family. There's a sacred lasagna recipe that wasn't put on paper for years. I think it's now on a piece of paper.
Starting point is 01:46:10 You got to be careful with the recipes, right? Like, you know, a little bit of this, a little bit of that. It came up again today, and it's going to be a conversation. conversation going forward, and it could be nothing, it could be something. It's going to Jonathan India. The word today was, it came out again from the beat riders. Jonathan India is available for some cost-controlled starting pitching. Jonathan India hasn't been Gadzukes, your word this year, Trev.
Starting point is 01:46:41 He's been around league average, 251, 338, 749 OPS. Oh, from second base, that does mean just a little bit more IMO. He's played in the most games in the National League. He's been out there every day, every day for the Reds. So that's the only, I understand, you've got this crazy depth and you've just called up a bunch of kids who have put together, I can't remember a group of kids all putting it together instantly for the Reds.
Starting point is 01:47:13 And I guess that's where I'm just a little bit fearful that Jonathan India, 14 homers, 12 steals, by the way. How many tools? If you trade him... You get that six tool. If you trade him, if you trade him, he's the guy that looks the best in the Viking helmet. He's the guy that's been around for a little bit.
Starting point is 01:47:44 You know, he's got a rookie of the year in the bag. Like, Jonathan India knows who Jonathan India is. Some of these young guys are going to have their growing pains along the way. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe all these young guys are about to be Hall of Famers and it's Big Red Machine 2.0. But I don't know, man, you're on another five-game winner. You've turned this whole season around.
Starting point is 01:48:04 I know you're trying to trade from depth to fix what's been a weakness. Just be careful because it would be a tough feeling if it's in late August and maybe there's some injuries there's some slumps, and you guys are sitting there wishing you had Jonathan India looking good in that Viking helmet. I don't know. I understand being the GM,
Starting point is 01:48:26 you've got to make some tough decisions like that, and you've just created a new timeline. If you're going to move on from Jonathan India, you better be getting a dude for that rotation because that's, I don't know. You're changing the recipe big time. He's been in, played the most games in the National League. I know league average hitter technically and all that stuff,
Starting point is 01:48:49 but that guy's been out there every day. So just telling, I guess that's for the Reds G. Who's a, Nick Crowell, something like that. Just be careful with the recipe, okay? Say that again? Be careful with the recipe, okay? Okay. Got a little more Italian at the end there.
Starting point is 01:49:06 I like it because, you know, India is, you know, the clubhouse leader in there, him in Vado, I would say. They talk about his passion all the time. I mean, he's not a free agent until 2027. I understand the log jammed there. There's a lot of guys playing out of position. It would free up a spot for them. And, yeah, if you could get young controllable pitching,
Starting point is 01:49:25 like, it makes sense in my mind. But you're right. Like, he, there's something about having him in that clubhouse that makes them go. I mean, think about where the Reds were at in May. You don't think Jonathan India was a part of that, you know, ship staying. On course?
Starting point is 01:49:44 Of course he was. Oh, that was good. Nice. Nice right there. Yeah, so, I mean, off top of my head, what are some teams that could go get this guy? The Marlins? Always.
Starting point is 01:49:57 He's from Florida. He's from Fort. He's from Lottie Dottie. Twins? No, they have too many second baseman. Okay. But maybe, maybe he plays third. No, Royce Lewis is going to play third. Carlos Crazy is going to be as short.
Starting point is 01:50:11 I know India played second baseman. third in college. Send him to Houston. Why not? He'll go nuts. No, they don't need that either. Red Sox? Red Sox?
Starting point is 01:50:21 He could go. Trev, you want to know where Jonathan India can go anywhere? Because he can play, I bet he could play third, and I think he's going to hit for you. And I'm even going to give him a little label. I got one. I got one. Found it. Don't send him to L.A.
Starting point is 01:50:37 Send him to the Mariners, baby. Okay. Got young pitching. They'd love that. I think Jonathan. India would. Oh, my, put him in a flannel, put a coffee in his hand. Go from John Jaso to lumberjack.
Starting point is 01:50:51 Those two teams trade all the time. How did I not think of that? I also, I want to give Jonathan India a little asterisk. He's hit first, third, or fifth in every game this year, mostly first, then third, then fifth, two games at six, I think. a little Eddie Rosario for me. When you're in the middle of the lineup, I think that's different
Starting point is 01:51:19 than if you're the seven-hole, eight-hole guy that's putting together a nice year. Like, teams game plan for Jonathan India. Like, they know who he is when he comes into town that if he does get traded for somewhere, I'm buying all the Jonathan India stock I can get. We'll end the show on this. As Bieber will hit the music soon.
Starting point is 01:51:42 old school scouting we're talking about five tools old school scouting what do they say in moneyball hot girlfriend means something six tool let's go twins let's go fuck
Starting point is 01:52:01 hey that was a banger of an episode big midweek coming to turn to the braves wow in person Guess they really want to win. Did I go skinny dipping in the Pacific Ocean on Saturday night? That's the question.
Starting point is 01:52:25 I don't know.
