Hello and welcome to talking baseball. It's the last episode of June. Some teams are June swuming. Some teams are hot in the street. The Cardinals won't die. Let's talk ball. Let's talk ball. Sunny Gray.

That is Trevor Goof. Bobby Sarachi is here. None of that was real. But what is real? Baseball's here, man. Trev, I am juiced. I don't know if it's because all the other sports are dead. I don't know if it's because Mariners, Rangers all went to extra innings. Cubs, Houston, the teams that are trading for each other are facing. Like, I love it. This was an awesome weekend of baseball. Of course, the Pirates and Marlins swept. How you do it? coach. I'm doing great. Back home at Magnum Condom Studio feels nice to have like my setup here. Because I've been on the road for quite some time. So I'm happy, man. It's like got my fam here. It's a beautiful summer week. It's fourth of July week, which is turned into my favorite holiday. I actually asked the question of that on the broadcast to Corey Provost. And he said Thanksgiving. And I said, that's ridiculous. And then when he started to like talk about it, like, you You know what? Maybe Thanksgiving is an awesome holiday. You can do it right, but something to summer and Fourth of July.

And Trev, I know, oddly enough, the comment section have gotten a little mad at you because you have the USA as a top two country and it ain't two. And I know that, you know, some people fight that and they give you... It's insane. They give you Icelandic school stats. But no, when the Fourth of July hits proper, it's undefeated. There's fireworks. There's food. There's drinks. Sun, night. We're not there yet. We've got one more day of June, 30 days, half September, April, June, and November. That one's for the kids. And, dude, Trev, this is so, watching what the Tigers did to your twins to end last night. We're going to get there, okay?

Looking at some of the raise stats. Are people buying Oriole stock? No, shouldn't be. Shohay, RIP Dave Parker, like some of his highlights were going around, and what a stud that, that dude was. Mets are hosting player only meetings. We got to get into it. So let's do it. And Trev, we start out in the American League.

And how about the Texas Rangers and the Seattle Mariners, the best of the West. Are they Houston still there? The Mariners take two out of three. Like I told you, we went extras in every game. That first one, snow day. Mom came home early, caught you masturbating. Makes the game-saving catch and then gets the game-winning hit.

Defense matters, people. And then in that second game, defense matters again before the Marcus Simeon walk-off. We get a throwout at home by your guy, Ozuna, sure. And then in that third game, we're going extras again. These two teams have a lot of guys that have played Mitch Garver, Sam Haggerty revenge series. Mariners get the best of it.

Exciting stuff out west. We'll stay out there because the Houston Astros, they face off with the Chicago Cubbies, and they took the bread games. Brandon Walter is just one of the best pitchers in baseball now. Okay. What the hell is that about? But hey, Detroit, Kyle Tucker Revenge Series.

He goes four hits, three RBIs in that second game. Astros, roll them. And then so does Framber. That curve ball. I think it's the pitch with the third most strikeouts this year. You want some stats? There you go, people. Six-inning shutout.

Altuves Homer is the only. only run scored. They take the series. They take the third game. This, oh, coming back to it, the Tampa Bay race took two out of three from the Baltimore Orioles. Hey, rays go up early. Six nothing. We're about to clean house. Orioles come back with 22. Gary Sanchez, everyone, if you're going to put up 22, rays came back for that second game, but then Dean Kramer Seven-inning shutpiece, Orioles take the set from Tampa, who have been the best team in the AL in the month of June. The Toronto Blue Jays, they take two out of three from the Red Sox.

Of course they did. Jose Berrios with another great start. Addison Barger and Nathan Lucas is back. Two hits on that final day. Red Sox put up a 15 spot, and Gioidos actually look great lately. Unfortunately, could that become true? Trade talk? We'll talk about that.

The Minnesota Twins and the Detroit Tigers, good team, bad team. Twins, they win the first game. David Festa. Buxton looks great. Tigers come back for the next couple. McKinstry and Riley Green with three hit days. Jesus was a carpenter, but Jesus might have heard his hammy running out a triple. Scoobol is unreal, man.

That was a sight to see last night. 13 strikeouts. The Yankees take two out of three from the A's, and that's obvious, as they win the bread games. Oh, Aaron Judge with a casual two-homer game during the final one. Young William Warren has really turned it on for the Yankees. So have Jazz and Belly. Bong.

Yankees win the series. The Dodgers, they do the same. They take two out of three from the Royals. Royals have been a bad place for a little while. Dodgers are in the good place. Shohei Otani and Max Money in that first game? Uh-huh. our guy Vinnie Pee and the second one,

Homer, Indian wit with four hits each. You know how Trev feels about their general looks. But the Dodgers get it done in that final game. First baseman Kike Hernandez, of course. Nationals, they take two out of three from the Angels. We could be telling a very different story about this series. The Angels could have swept this, but a late Nationals push in the first game

and in that final game where the Nationals end up taking it in 11. They score on Kenley. Jacob Young takes it to extras. Nats take two out of three. And the San Francisco Giants face the Chicago White Sox and the White Sox took two out of three. What is we doing, baby? Signor puke, Adrian Houser with the nice start. Kyle Teal is up and he is hitting. Mike Talkman, that's all he does. And your best Western road warriors, the Cardinals swept the guards. Chris Rose's Guards. That's still only should be half. I tend to agree. Maybe that's wrong, actually.

Oh, boy. Oh, God, that's simulation talk. I do have the standings. We're going to start out east. Your Yankees opening it up a little bit against the race with a one and a half game lead. They're 48 and 35. I got questions for you. Right.

Tampa Bay Rays, 10 games over 500, 47 and 37. Toronto Blue Jays still kind of hanging in there, 45 and 38. Three games back in that division. The Red Sox, what is you doing, baby? I don't, that's, oh, that season. 41 and 44, the Baltimore Orioles, Jake's buying all the stock. Way to go. 36 and 47.

And then in the central, the Tigers tied with the Dodgers. tied with the Dodgers for the best record in all of baseball. 53 and 32. The Guardians and the Twins getting closer. 11 and a half games back for the Guardians. They're 40 and 42. My twins making a run for it. No, they're not.

It's 12 and a half games back. They're 40 and 44. A ton of question marks on that team right now. My goodness. Kansas City Royals, what is you doing, baby? 39 and 45 and the White Sox. My guy Chase Midroth, favorite player in the league right now, 28 and 56.

He had a slide. I was going to get that highlight up because he just, I don't know why I like him so much. They say what the White Sox are. They're 28 and 56. They're only 24 and a half out right now. It's not a big deal. And then out west, finally, the Astros, 50 and 34.

Just creeping up on the best record in baseball. Nobody's talking about it. There's six and a half games above the Mariners who are 43 and 40. The Angels, okay, they're still right around 500. It's a victory for them on the year. 41 and 42, a lot more coming about them later on in the episode. Texas Rangers 41 and 43. Like, what is you doing, baby?

And then the athletics, 34 and 52. In the wild card, Jake, this is where things get interesting. Because we have a million teams within reach still. Tampa Bay Area is three and a half games up. Toronto Blue Jays, two games up. They're the first two spots in the wild card. The Mariners sit with the commanding. two-game lead over the Angels for the third wildcard spot.

Rangers two and a half out. Guardians two and a half out. Red Sox, twins, three and three and a half games out. I'll throw the Royals in. They're four and a half games out. That's incredible. A bunch of teams under 500 still right in the mix. Fangraphs, Jake, has projected last wildcard team in,

84 wins. Yeah. Those are the standings in the American League. Nobody does it better. Trev, there's the Chase Midroth slide that everyone's trying to get into this. I just love that right away. He's like, I got in there. Watch this.

I'm good. A little hezy hay on the bases. Oh, oh, the tag just never gets there. Trev, you're in a great mood. You're back home. You had a great time with the family. Fourth of July, the A.L. Central sucks. Yeah.

Well, there's one good team. There's one really good team, maybe the best team in the American League. But those standings are brutal to look at. Yeah, I mean, look, the twins are wildly inconsistent. Shrieky is all hell. And then I think like the guardians and the royals always have trouble scoring. So like that's not like good. That's going to cause you to lose some games.

I mean, yeah, there's one team above 500. Not too long. Hey, Jake, you know what? Like a month ago, they were all in the playoffs. I know. My oh my. A lot of change since then. The East has surged a little bit, and I still have a lot of stock out west because we could,

if the Angels won that final Kenley closes the door yesterday, they're 42 and 41. If the Rangers had won one of those extra inning games, they're 42 and 42. And that's probably where we start, Trev, Seattle and Texas. Two teams I like a lot. I think both the, I talk about these teams differently because, well, the Texas Rangers won a word series in Seattle hasn't won a playoff matchup. So I guess I do judge them differently on that scope. I think these two teams are so close for whatever reason. These teams only pitch right now, although we got a little bit of offense in both games.

But yeah, whether you like the old bull or the young calves, we've got Avaldi, we've got Luis Castillo, Brian Wu, Logan, Gilbert, Jack, Clyder Kumar Rocker. I love every pitcher that touched the mountain this series. And I love most of the guys who are stepping into the batters box. It's just some of these guys are struggling except Big Dumpur who's starting to get the intentional walk treatment. That we're starting to see a lot of that around baseball. Ask my guy James Wood with four straight intentional walks on Sunday.

But Trev, I know I made my Master Boney joke on the way through, but it's my perfect example of the nerds, went too far, that defense still super matters. Because if he doesn't squeeze this ball, it's game over, walk off, Rangers win. And instead, he catches that. He comes up the next inning and gets the hit. And that changes the whole series. What do you mean that the nerds like defense?

I don't think we, sometimes I'm okay with you banging on analytics and all the front office stuff that comes along in the game nowadays, but they've always like defense. They like defense. And this probably might be tricky for people because I've talked about how much I enjoy hitting and how much that matters. Trevor, it used to be a requirement that if you played a position at the major league level,

you had to be able to play that position. Now you get there with the stick and we figure it out. Sure, I can see that. It depends on the organization. This is going to get into a much broader conversation. I think we're seeing teams choose their own adventure. Like, what are we going to be? Are we going to be a bopping team,

which I believe like the Rangers that's their ideal identity as a team that can bop a little bit and obviously they're throwing the ball. The bullpen's been great. We know about the starting pitchering. But like I think if they're taking their position players

that they're more so a team that rakes or are supposed to rake. Excuse me. And then you have the cheap teams. That's what I'll call them. Who they're after defense because it's cheap. Defense and speed. That's what the brewer.

are doing. That's what the raise do. That's what these teams that, quote, unquote, can't spend a bunch of money. That's what they're doing. So that's a whole different conversation, though. Fine. Yeah, but no, a great, this is a fun series because these two teams are, you know, the Mariners are trying

to keep pace in the West. They're trying to keep pace in the wild card. And, you know, getting to watch them, I've watched two series now up close with them. They have, they have a good enough squad where if they got into the playoffs

you could be really scared of them lately the bullpen hasn't been as good they have some really talented arms back there but Munoz is kind of showing some cracks as of late and then offensively it just like it's a streaky team I think

like Cal's there he's been consistent you're mentioning the walks that have been showing up they still have guys around him they can get it done and like put up good at bats like a rosarana we know he can carry a team offensively and Julio Rodriguez like if he gets going like so they have they have like three or four bats that you can say okay like these are our guys and then the bottom of the line a bunch of kind of contact oriented um athletes and you know every once in a while they show up and the mariners look like they're an unbeatable team and then if they don't show up it becomes

such a I mean you're looking at outs at the bottom of the lineup so that's kind of like the ebbs and flows of the Mariners series at least that I have seen and I think Mariners fans will agree with me if the bottom of the lineup shows up and puts together good at bats like they're a daunting

team it's just really hard I think to count on those guys because it has been like inconsistent for them yeah I have both of these teams labeled as the the AL Wildcar team you don't want to play.

Whoever's on the mound for either these teams is a problem. And again, I guess for Seattle, you know, the Cal Rally effect, like he's going to start getting intentionally walked. Like if someone hits a double ahead of him, you're putting him on first base. And the Mariners lineup,

which has been a topic of conversation on this show for years, they are now going to be tested in that regard. And in that first game, They actually, Cal came up later when he got a chance he made him pay that you feel those moments more. The experience I'll relate with Mariners fans on a couple of the Yankees teams when Judge took into the intentional walk treatment. Man, the pressure on that guy behind him starts to build up. And if you're coming through, it feels like you just bullied the other team.

When they don't get you, it feels like you're getting bullied. You're like, we have this amazing weapon that is now completely neutralized. And the whole team feels that. So that's going to be something to watch for them going forward. But credit to Seattle, because you talk about team building and identity too, twice in the extra inning box score, Donovan Solano. Yeah, no, he's, you know, that matters. He's going to give you a good at bat.

Like, the Mariners have guys that will give you a good at bat. It's just the lineup can be light down there at the bottom. They got some fun players, like Cole Young's first year. He's kind of like spraying the ball around a little bit. again, it's like, it's flip a coin almost. If those guys have good series or one guy steps up, they're going to win series. If they don't, then they don't.

That's like it is, they go as the bottom of their lineup goes. And Cal's going to win you some games, obviously. Their pitching is going to win you some games, obviously. But like winning series and putting together stretches, it's all about that bottom part of the lineup for them. Let's stay out west, Trev, because the Houston Astros, like we've been telling people, they were coming.

They came. Excuse me. And now they continue to roll as they face the Chicago Cubs where they traded Tucker and Presley. Nice moment for the fellow's return in there. And they end up handling the Cubbies who haven't been as hot in the street themselves lately. But the Astros are winners of six out of seven. Cam Smith with a homer, hater on the back end. Like the whole recipe is there for Houston.

And it's kind of funny. I think now people are starting to treat them like one of the powers of the American League. I mean, yeah, like I said, I think they're three games back with the best record in all of baseball. This was a fun one because of the trades that went on during the off season. You saw Cam Smith put his team up, I think it was, you put up seven and nothing in the fourth in the first game, like a huge bomb onto the train tracks. So open the series up like that has to feel good. Hey,

you traded me away. I'll be it for, if you get traded for Kyle Tucker, you're like, all right, like I get it. Right. You know,

I don't think you feel like the animosity. A lot of the guys do. It's like, all right. Like, you get, they knew they had to give up a lot to get this guy. I'm the,

I'm the, a lot part of that. Fine. But still, hitting a homer against your, uh, former organization has to feel really good. And you see that,

he walked that thing out. Yeah. Up on the track. And then he has another one in game two. He's like, oh, I'm going to be the hero. I'm going to win this series single-handedly. But then Kyle Tucker hits a bomb. I think they had three homers in an inning against Lance McCuller's Jr.

There, and they end up pounding him in the second game. But then, of course, Frambert to the rescue on the rubber match. He has a great start. Altovae hits the two-run homer, and then Josh Hayter seals at 23 to 23 on the year. I mean, that's a Houston Astros playoff win if I've ever seen one right there. Framberg lays down, quality start. Altuve hits a clutch homer, and then you got Abraeu and Hayter in the back end of the bullpen just doing their thing. I mean, it's why the Astros can be daunting.

I know we say this every time we talk about them, but it's true. Wait till they get Yordaunt back. We're talking about, I believe, is it the second best record? in the They're above the Yankees, right? Yeah. Yeah. Second best record in the AL,

second best record in all of baseball, and they haven't had your Don Alvarez. It's like a trade, bro. Right? You get them at the deadline. Yeah, it's happening. The Cubbies, I mean, I think we'll end up circling back on them a little bit in the National League

because it's gotten a little tighter. but like, I don't know, at the same time, King Tuck is here. He's now third in the NL in war behind PCA and Otani. They've been playing 500 balls, just the teams around them in the Central, you know, have kind of caught up and caught fire a little bit. So, you know, it's it's crunch time for them. I'm actually seeing them in a week. Okay.

As they come into Minnesota, I'm calling those games. So I'll get a up close and personal look at the Cubs. And I'm excited. I want to see him. Let's go east, young man. I don't know if people talk about that. With Memorial's race, and I mentioned it on the way through that first game is crazy.

Rays go up six nothing. Here we go. Baltimore can't pitch. Rays are the hottest team in the AAL. Yoink. Baltimore goes nuts. Kobe Mayo has a couple big hits. and, you know, this Orioles youth moving that we've been talking about.

The Orioles have some splits, Trev, that the brand of baseball they've been playing haven't been as bad. They're having a nice month of June. I think they're 15 and 11. It seems like too little too late. But like you said, in those A.O. Wildcard standings, I don't, I don't know. Right now they've got that Hunter. I don't believe yet.

Nobody should. but they're like, okay, we just got to get five games below 500. And then we want to get to 500. And then 34 wins. It's fine to feel that way. It's June 30th. 84 wins. Like, I want to bury some teams.

Like, I want to bury the Braves, but, you know, you think back to their World Series Year in 21 and how they didn't reach 500 until August or something ridiculous like that. Like, like, it is baseball. You don't want to totally give up on the season, June 30, especially with that talent. But you know what? They've gotten better pitching performances as a late. Like Charlie Morton has kind of like turned it around. Yeah.

So maybe that's great for their season or great for his trade value. Dean Kremmer with an incredible start here. I don't think he went to what, seven shuddy in that last game. Yeah, the first two games were kind of just oddball games. It was six to nothing, Tampa Bay in the bottom of the second. And I believe my guy Spilly was it was the Apple TV game. And he said something like, that might be. had knockout in the second inning for the race.

And then, yeah, they end up scoring 22 runs in the game. Kobe Mayo's catching flack for hitting a home runoff a position player. People thought he was like pimping that. He wasn't. He was being like, what? This is weird. It was awkward. That's what it was for him.

Yeah, then the raise kind of blew him out there in the second game. And I mentioned, you know, it was Dean Kremmer Day. And that's, you know, that's been the Orioles. Oh, there it is. I think he's like, what are we doing here? Yeah. See, even he doesn't like that. Right.

He likes that. That's his first Major League Homer, by the way. So that's what's crazy. Hey, it looks like a homer in the scorebook, Trev. That's what they always say. It kind of stinks. They don't say that. They don't say that at all.

I got my first homer off Jose Cabiero. Is it a name? Yeah, you're right. Hey, I've got both teams circled. The race have been so good. They had the big month. Their offense has been the best in baseball. The Orioles are going to scrounge for these.

They've got till the trade deadline. Like if keep winning some games and, you know, show up in that wild card graphic and be four games back and that could change the tone. You're not there yet. Hey, sneaky, Gunner Henderson is just like back to being his old self. Remember, I think. For some reason in my head,

head, oh, like, he's not, he's got off to a little bit of a slow start. That's just not the case. He's doing, he's doing it. Yeah, the lefties were getting him a little bit. I mean, I still think we expect a little more from Gunner, but it was a slow start. He had an oblique thing to start the year, so did you DM him? Um, Trev, I, Blue Jay's Red Sox, I don't know how much you want to dive. I mean, obviously there were some good performances in this game. Your guy, Burrios, um, Red Sox and their sixth game losing street. in the middle one. I don't know.

Right now this is a little bit good team, bad team. The Walker Bueller stuff is getting really interesting with how are they going to handle that. And I'll be honest, and maybe it segues to Yankees a little bit. Yanks and Blue Jays are about to play four in the Great North, and maybe the series I'm most hyped for so far this year for my Yanks. Yeah, first two games were kind of just lopsided there. Blue Jays' role in game one.

Boston wins 15 to 1. in that game two, Gialito and I start, then yeah, the Walker Bueller experiment, I don't know. I don't know what they're going to do. They paid him,

was it, one year, $21 million to be there? He's had some interesting quotes that's basically saying like, I stink right now. Yeah. And I don't know what to do about it. That's never good to hear from your,

you know, free agent acquisition. Yeah, I don't know what to do with the Red Sox. I do not know what to do with the Red Sox. So Raphael is having, obviously his best offensive months still doing things out there but as a whole they've just not being able to string together wins for the blue jays yeah this huge series uh coming up there in

against new york and i love here it's like i believe barger and vladdie go back to back and like we can kind of like dream about that for years to come if you're a blue jays fan that's nice yeah i don't know i'm i'm big on the blue jays it's a big one come coming up. Addison Barger, okay, Tampa Florida High School. All right. He's a stud, dude. Trev, you mentioned, and I hope you still remember, I think when the Yankees got mentioned when you said the standings, you said you had a question for me. Do you remember what that was or what that was? Yeah, what was the Jacob Wilson, like, who was that? Ian Hamilton. Ian Hamilton. What was that about? What was going on there?

So for those of you that call me out on my fandom sometimes, Ian Hamilton was in the wrong. So it's the pitcher, pitcher mode. You know, Jacob Wilson's up, couple guys on, gets a chopper right back to the pitcher. Ian Hamilton fielded it, looked at Wilson, and he did say, run. So I think he was just in that pitcher locked in intense mode.

Oh, loser mode. Okay. It's another way to phrase it. Yeah. They, yeah, Jacob Wilson, the young kid kind of handled it perfectly. He was like, yeah, I don't know what that was. So, yeah, I don't know.

We had- Race me? Race me the bag. We had Bartolo in the office a couple weeks ago. And Bart said, you know, in a comical way, you know, if he feel that it, he would take his time just because, you know, you can run to first. I can do my thing, but he didn't.

Bartolo wouldn't say run at them, kind of like a high school bully in a movie. So yeah, Ian Hamilton, not in the right there. Also, Jacob Wilson, like, setting the world on fire, bro. He's going to win rookie of the year. He's going to possibly be the starting shortstop in the American League for the All-Star game. Just, like, a little bit of respect.

I know he's a rook, but. Yeah, I don't, pitchers are weird cats. and he got out of the situation and I don't know what that was. I don't love it. You know what? It's funny because Griffin Jacks

like sneaky talked crap to Jacob Wilson when he struck him out he struck him on three pages I think all changeups it was dominant but he came off the mound saying like

In the Central, the Cubbies, the lead is down to two games. 49 and 35, the Brewers who have gone 8 and 2 in the last 10, they're 47 and 37 now. They're a half game above the Cardinals who are 47 and 38. the Reds 44 and 40 their five games back

and then the pirates after the sweep 35 and 50 out west the Dodgers tied for the Tigers best record in baseball Jake 53 and 32 they have now a seven game lead over the Padres 45 and 38 Padres are having a nice season yeah

not good enough there a half game above the Giants who are 45 and 39 the Diamondbacks one game below 500 now at 41 and 42. Are they back in cell mode now because they got swept? Probably, I don't know. 19 and 65 for the Rockies. And then we're going to go to the wild card Jake in the National League.

The Mets right now have the top wild card spot, brewers behind them. The Cardinals sitting in that third spot. So the NL Central right now has three teams in the playoffs. The Padres are one game back. The Giants are one and a half games back. and the Reds are two and a half games back. Those are the only teams all mentioned because the snakes are five.

Let me get it up here because Sonny Gray. The only pitcher in Major League Baseball history. To throw nine innings pitch, one or less hits, no earned runs, no walks, 11 plus Ks in under 90 pitches. I mean, it really is one of the greatest starting pitching performances in the history of the game coach. So you're going to win when stuff like that happens, okay? The thing they got is getting me with this Cardinals team. So I got an itchy nose right now. What's up to that?

That's okay. We're okay. The thing that's getting me with this Cardinals team, Jake, is the contributions up and down the lineup. Now, they didn't really need it in game one because of what Sonny. Did. Victor Scott, though, obviously down there got some work done. But in the games two and three, spots six through nine were just going off for the Cardinals, quality of bats, driving in runs. And that's just, it's just the more and more you watch baseball, you understand like that's the separator. Like what are you getting from the bottom half of your lineup? Like most teams have some players at the top that get the job done. What are you getting from the bottom part of your lineup? If you're getting contributions, And those guys are getting on base or, you know, producing power or moving runners, like having quality of bats, like more than likely you're going to start winning series. You're going to start racking up series wins and rounds. This is what the, this is what the Cardinals have been doing, excuse me, and the Tigers, if we're being honest.

But the Cardinals, like the length of their lineup is starting to, you know, like Nolan Aeronado is hitting six for them. And like, and then bringing it back to the back part of their order. and we're getting the catchers involved and Victor Scott down there at the bottom like they're just they're putting together quality bats they did that in the final two games here is you know

they just put a manhandling on the guardians sweep them in Cleveland yeah there there are some guardian stats that say they're playing some of the worst baseball in June but that's none of St. Louis's business as they put it in

and yeah there's just it's a lot of ballplayers you like that it is funny to think, you know, if we could erase that one horrible cardinal season out of our brains, like what would we think about this team? And it's tough to do that. But they head to Pittsburgh. Their sixth and run scores. They're pitching is middle of the pack, but we can also work with that. And the only free agent signing they made was Phil Maeton, who's actually been really good

for them. And him and Halsley on the back end have been. one of the best, like, eighth inning, ninth inning pairings in balls. So the Cardinals are fun, and they haven't been that either. Here we are. This happens to everyone. Juan Soto just put together the second best Mets hitting month in history behind Daryl Strawberry. But now the rest of the team has headed the wrong direction. What are you seeing? It's, I mean, for them, it's been the pitching. You could talk about the offense, whatever, whatever.

It's been, they've been very, very bad in the month of June, putting obviously too much pressure. Look at this scores. of this series, 9-1, 9-2-12-1. So nothing worked for the Mets. They had a closed-door meeting, all these things going on. But as much credit as we have given the Mets,

over now, I guess, the last year and a half, about, hey, they're a pitching factory. The new brewers, like, we saw a little chink in the armor. Right? Yeah. It's basically what we're seeing. Griffin Canning out now, Achilles, Montas comes back.

I think he's had a nice first start. This one comes back, gives six earnie up, David Peterson, five earned runs. If you're behind constantly in games, I mean, it's put so much pressure on your offense, and you're going to start to lose. And this is a horrible month for them. It's been a very, very tough watch.

It all starts with the pitching staff. I'm going through the exact same thing with the Minnesota Twins right now, the exact same thing, where, you know, the offense can be good some days And it doesn't matter, though, because they're getting put behind the eight ball so many times by the pitching. Trev, and again, hey, pirates, like you guys, you had a good weekend.

You knocked them around the ballpark. Henry Davis' first four-hit game. Brian finally hitting again. I hope we end this year saying he had a big second half where he hit 3-11. But the story for this season is the Mets, and a big week coming up, Milwaukee, and the Yankees for the New York Mets coming off of this bad ending to the month, bad month, you know, David Peterson back-to-back bad starts.

They're starting, you know, feeling the pressure a little bit. Will the pressure make diamonds this week? They're going to have to go get a pitcher. And they can. They can. And they can. Although who's out there? Sandy, like, put together a stretch of good starts.

start off in this league you might have initial success you'll make adjustments you got to figure it out then they make adjustment yeah it's like it's a back and forth thing and it's there there's a couple crucial times where you have to establish yourself as a big leaguer a starting big leaguer and you kind of have to realize when that moment is. And I was back in Minnesota, the great state, Twins territory, and,

you know, there was a rain delay in the series, and I'm, I had the fam there, so I'm kind of like hanging with the fam. It's like a three-hour rain delay, or maybe it's even more than that. So I'm kind of like walking through this area of the stadium,

kind of getting some food. And when that happens, you know, I got a little juice in Minnesota. Oh, yeah. about it. And, you know, people come up and talk to me and it's, it's great. I love interacting with all them. Minnesotans are just some of the nicest people. But the one thing that always gets talked about, like always, is my June of 2012. It's like my best, my best baseball I ever

play, my best, you know, hitting. And it's, it's where I really firmly established myself as a big league. I got put into the third base slot, started hitting some homers. My numbers in June of 2012, okay? 26 games started. I'd seven doubles,

11 homers, 21 runs driven in, 327 batting average 391 on base, 735 slug for the 1.126. Prior to that, Jake, I hadn't really hit that way. Like in the big leagues, I just was what it was.

and then boom i have this month i'm just hitting homer after homer and i'm like okay like i felt finally like i belonged now luke hochever ended up blowing my thumb up i still have nerve damage if i touch my thumb right here it still tingles to this day so i go i miss games in the middle of july never the same truly never the same um but i had that june to show people that i could be a starter at the big leagues in the big league level you know who's having that in June we talk about him quite often now it's Joe Adele numbers are eerily similar 26 games started 11 homers 19 runs driven in he's also one dotting it a 1.038 this is the time Joe Adele this is the time to establish yourself as a big league starter and make a career off of

of it like I did literally made a career off that one month. I got the starting job. You know what? Yeah. Did I have some years after that where I kind of hunkered down? Yes, but that's where it all started. And I'm just, I'm telling Joe, now is not the time to like rest. Don't say damn, like, I'm here and this is it. This is what I'm going to be for the rest of my career. This is where the work finally starts, where you have to now take this and go. establish yourself as a starter start your career right now I just looked at the numbers because I knew he hit the 11th homer in June

and I remember that's what I hit too very similar and we might be seeing a guy and it's a beautiful thing after years of struggling at the big level finally establish himself and find some consistency he had a nice May

an 836 OPS in May you know hit five homers but this month of June has been electric for him and if you've been watching, you understand, we might be seeing a guy cement himself at the big level. And I'm happy because he's been so up and down in his career, top prospect to kind of a guy that just banished to the minor leagues.

He's been up and down. It's time to go now, Joe Adele. I don't know. This is my heart to heart for Joe. Don't stop now. Keep working. I love it. Again, we're a couple late innings away from this being an episode

where we talked about the Halos a lot. instead they end up losing two out of three. Joe Adele, four straight games with two hits. Hello. And Trev, like, it's interesting because Joe Adele ended up hitting 20 homers last year, but that's the only stat on the page that you really like. He's at 18 through 76 games. So it's a different kind of power.

And I'm excited because this is a theory that you've brought up, Trev, that, you know, I sneakie tried to get my jab in it, analytics at the top of the show and you're like, no, Jake, analytics likes defense too. And you're right. Know it's something that they'll never measure, Trev. The scoreboard I test. Joe Adele has never walked up to the plate, looked at his name and his stats on the scoreboard, and said, that's good.

It's the first time that Joe Adele, who's still 26, has walked up to the plate, saw Adele, middle of the lineup, 816 OPS, 18 homers, it's June. That matters, that matters, as you've depicted from the player front and how you feel about yourself.

But I'm super excited for his second half and this whole Angel second half without Ron Washington, which stinks. Yeah, shout out Ron. But we're happy for Joe Adele. This could be the start. Do you know this first name is Jordan? No. Didn't know that either.

It's Aaron Judge, Cal Raleigh, Shohei Otani, James Wood, Kyle Tucker, Jose Ramirez, and Rafael Devers. OPS. Intentional walks. Okay. This is the craziest thing I've daydreamed. And again, we have our warehouse where we get to do a lot of weird stuff and make up rules and try things.

Like if, so if the pitcher throws four non-competitive pitches, the batter can choose if they could stay up. Something like that. I don't have it figured out. But that way, think about this. If Aaron Judge

is up, or Cal Raleigh, or any of the best hitters of the game I just mentioned, who kids are going to the games to see that creates the future of baseball. James Wood got intentionally walked four straight times. That stinks. Like, at its core, that stinks.

I know you say, like, you know, the internet will be like, well, the guy on decks got, big butter. Okay, don't care. I want to see James Wood hit. So I don't know. I don't know the solution. I'm opening up to the people in the board. For me, if there was something, because like, okay, say it's a 3-0 pitch to Aaron Judge, that pitch just get a lot more exciting. Because then if the pitcher does want to walk them, they could still throw one strike and then walk them. Like, I'm just, I'm trying to think of creative solutions to get what is an unexciting play out of the game. The best hitters in our game,

are getting the bat taken out of their hand at an important moment of the game. So I'm sorry. I realize it's a little weird. Oh, Jake's moving to Fiji. I get it. But there's something here. Because if I continue to go down this list,

it's Bobby Witt, it's Mike Trout, it's Vlad, it's L. Like, it's all the best players in baseball, just getting walked to first base. I get it. I understand what you're saying. Like, people come to see these guys play. For the most part, you're coming to see the stars, of the game, you know, you can say, well, baseball is not a star sport. It's a team sport. I understand. I mean, I know where you're coming from. I don't have a solution for you. Especially not off the top of my head. I know we've kind of been dancing around this a little bit. And maybe I liken it to, I don't know, you have a star receiver and you're just putting two guys on them. Just, what's that called? Like, cover your zone cover. I don't know. Double cover. Double coverage. Double coverage. Yeah. But it leaves somebody.

else open and that's kind of like the guy behind you type situation. I don't know. It's interesting. I also would like to see them get challenged. Yes. I don't know what the solution is. I have no idea. No idea.

All of the best players in the game are getting pointed to first base and then a lesser player is coming. We had this discussion with guys getting thrown out and I was like, how do we, like, can we have like some sort of penalty before they get thrown out so we can see these guys play and people were like. And I just think it would be, we get so used to rule so quickly that you'd be surprised. Again, I'm not saying I'm the one with the solution, but like, I would have liked to see an 18 more Aaron Judge at Bats this year. I would have liked to see 10 more Cal Rale at Bats. I would have like to see 10 more Shohay at Bats. I would have like to see James Wood get a chance to swing it this weekend.
