Here with Trevor, here with Jake, a very colorful episode.
It feels like we haven't done an episode together in a while
because of the winter meetings last week,
but we actually did an episode last week.
And I also think before I throw it to you guys,
letting the audience know, we're on our regularly scheduled
two episodes a week, month.
They come out Tuesday, Thursday, BBC?
I think I'm going to get them out more or less as soon as we're done recording.
Okay, so Monday, Wednesday.
Awesome.
Jake, how are you doing?
James, Trevor Davis.
Yeah, you know, me and Trevor sometimes, if we're living our Hollywood lives,
we'll have a couple drinks, message each other.
I told Trev, I miss them because, you know, we were, you know, for six months,
we're seeing each other for like four and a half hours a week.
and then since the offseason,
since the World Series ended,
I went away to do wedding planning,
Thanksgiving, we're doing one a week,
winter meeting,
so I'm, you know,
excited to put some time in with the fellas again.
There's so much that happened, too.
I think that's,
sometimes these off-season episodes
were just kind of going back and forth,
and I hope we get to do one of those episodes soon,
but we don't have time for that
because Steve Cohen's making moves,
and, you know, the Padres, they're just spending like, like no one cares.
I love it all.
We have some stories this year.
I think we have to talk about like Jolly Olive maybe in this episode.
Like a lot of things have been out on the internet, James.
Yeah.
No, a lot has been happening.
I think we get right into it.
I think we go right into the Mets.
They're making a lot of moves.
And I've seen some tweets of takes that I agree with.
And I'm going to reiterate those.
Not as my own.
I'll be like, I read this.
Yeah.
Wow, that made me think.
I'm not going to steal them.
Anyway, the Mets sign.
Brandon Nimma, that's a big name.
They sign Kodi, Kodi, Kodi, Kada.
Kada?
Kada.
I think Kada.
Senga.
Senga.
Senga.
They signed the Japanese pitcher Senga.
He was the one that was the most highly touted Japanese player to post.
They sign left-hand pitcher Jose Kintana.
What's that, BPD?
He, not posted.
He was like a normal free agent.
You know what?
Jolly Olive did a whole video on the YouTube channel all about Senga.
And now he's on Jali Alves team, the Mets.
And I'm sure he did a Mets reaction on Shay Station with Jerry Blevins.
So if you want to really deep dive, definitely check out the Jali Olive video all about him.
Because it is interesting.
His team wouldn't allow him to post.
So he has to come over later, but he's an unrestricted free agent that way.
Played for the team that's like never posted somebody.
Yes.
The Mets grabbed him.
They also grabbed, they traded for Brooks Raley, and they signed David Robertson.
They're making a ton of moves.
Can I throw the one take to you, Trev, that I saw?
Because when Verlander signed, that when they signed Verlinder, I said, I'd rather Verlender for two than DeGrom for five on these contracts.
Well, now they got Senga, Verlander, and Quintana.
For the same money, the Rangers got DeGrom.
They got five years of DeGrom for whatever.
it was 100 and something 80 and the Mets got Senga Kintana two years of Kintana five years of Sanga
two years of Verlander for the same money I like the Mets package way better because it's a little
less injury failure proof I can see how that take is out there and you know on on the surface level
I also agree with it I mean I thought the Grom was going to go high level AV short years he wanted
this stay somewhere and be settled.
That's what he chose.
I'm happy for him.
But I think also the, you know,
account for, look, Walker's not there anymore.
Basset's not there anymore.
So, like, there are, it's a little bit bigger than that.
But, I mean, if you're looking at it that way,
that money that they had to spend on DeGrom,
they got these three guys.
It's good.
They have a lot of starting pitching and that's what you need.
They have about six starters now that they can draw from.
And, you know, I'm curious to see saying,
I went and watched some video on him, you know,
as people have been talking about him where he was going to sign.
You know,
I wanted to see what's this guy featuring.
I mean,
and honestly,
like,
I know this is like a lazy comparison,
but really it's kind of the best.
It's,
it's a,
it's a show-hail-tony type.
I mean,
Japanese pitchers have a way that they pitch.
And he,
this guy's incredible,
though.
I mean,
triple digit fastball.
His splitter is really,
really nasty.
Then his two complimentary pitches are like,
they're all right.
Like, he's got a decent slider.
Curb balls kind of,
he can add in some track,
shape it a little bit.
But the splitter's nasty.
And the thing,
about Splitters is you don't see him a lot
in Major League Baseball so when a guy has a good one
it gives hitters problems. Just because you
don't see them. So I'm
excited for the Mets. I mean, look,
they are,
Steve Cohen came in and promised
something. He promised the World Series,
promised he's going to spend. Well, he's been spending.
And I think now we're going to find out, like, can
you buy a championship?
Because he's trying
to right now. And they are the oldest
staff in MLB, so if you wanted to pick
through it, the age is there,
are kind of really high and Jake as a resident ageist.
Do you have thoughts on that?
Yeah.
Hey, right now on paper, it looks awesome, right?
It's Verlander Scherzer at the top.
Best one two punch in baseball.
We love that.
Verlander will be 40.
Scher will be 39 next year.
Sanga at the three.
Like, let's find out.
Honestly, you know, anytime there's an easy out for me, I'm going to take it.
I have no idea. Sanga could be one of the best pitchers in the league next year or Sanga could be kind of lost, right?
Like we- What's his hand size?
We don't. That's what everyone's asking. I know Jimmy, you talk about pocketing that splitter deep in there.
Because he actually calls his pitch a fork ball, Trev. The ghost fork.
Yeah. I mean, gyro ball, the Japanese pitchers love naming their pitches and saying it's nasty.
I know it's nasty, but it is, it is really like a fork ball.
Yeah. You can see it's like kind of knuckling and dropping, almost like a 12-6 curve more than a splitter, which
darts, dives like away.
The Japanese ball is smaller.
So that's why you see,
that's why a lot of Japanese pitchers have splitters
because the ball is smaller,
easier to wrap your fingers around it.
It's also why Tanaka comes over,
throws a splitter with the MLB ball,
and strains his forearm because that is the result of that.
So that doesn't make any sense to me.
We should all be playing with the same baseball.
I don't understand.
Yeah.
It's a Japanese.
So it's completely different.
I'm fine with different, like, countries having, you know, like in Russia and basketball,
they make a half court shots game over, whatever that rule is.
Good rule.
Yeah.
Yeah.
The age of the pitchers.
You know, there's going to be a point we check in this year and you're going to have
to rest Scherzer at some point or does his, you know, does he get banged up?
And this rotation is going to look a lot different.
Like where are we going to be at in May if, say, Max Scherzer needs to take three weeks
out for back spasms or something like that?
and Sang is still adjusting.
Now you're one, too, is Verlander saying,
Carrasco, what's he going to look like this year?
He's going to be 36.
Kintana, I mean, honestly, I kind of like the Kintana move the most.
Go look at that dude's baseball reference.
Yeah, he's just, he's just pitched really well for a long time.
And he, you know, kind of got hurt, built himself back up on the one-year deal,
which is what you're supposed to do.
And, yeah, I mean, for what that guy is just going to give you as a quote-unquote
fifth starter, you got to love.
So, I mean, the overlying story,
because we haven't even got to Nimmo yet,
but Uncle Steve, rolling out the wallet,
like we hoped he would.
God, it's a great time to be a Mets fan.
You don't hear those words a lot, but it truly is.
Well, they do have, you know,
Luchesse and McGill go to the depth.
They do have depth there.
Yeah.
Someone will get injured and maybe Scherzer even gets like,
you know, a phantom IL.
He definitely should at this point.
I do want to come at some people that were calling Verlander injury prone.
He's like the least injury prone pitcher.
He had one injury.
It was Tommy John.
Right.
When you throw 482 starts in your career, you probably get a run into Tommy John.
Other than that, the dude's like the least injury prone starting pitcher ever.
Like injury prone means like nags here and there.
You miss starts.
you know, a lot of 10-day, 14-D-IL stints, or, you know, the-
You're missing starts every year.
The strain becomes the pulled muscle becomes this.
And Kintana, I think, also makes a lot of starts.
Like, he had the injury recently, which I think was the first one.
Scherzer, he's been injury prone recently.
And I think Sanga does have been history of that.
But they were lumping, like, Verlander.
Like, he's the least injury-prone pitcher when he doesn't have Tommy John.
Is one big, fairly recent injury?
and before that, I think he's like one I else didn't ever.
Yeah.
Are you guys familiar with the word caballo?
Horse.
These guys are horses, both of them.
And I like that.
Like, when you add guys that you know you can count on for X amount of innings,
it just makes your job easier, you know, as a manager, you know,
as for an organization.
And they do have that depth.
We're talking about McGill last year.
They were calling him Baby de Grom, man.
Like, the guys got some stuff.
So...
I'm in, I'm in, man.
Yeah, again, we haven't even talked about Nimmo.
I love them bringing him back.
He's obviously very sought after as a center fielder who can hit, get on base.
You know, their outfields is good, man.
Cana, Marte, Nimmo.
Their offense last year, I think was third in baseball and OPS Plus.
They were like fifth in baseball and runs per game.
So you're returning in offense.
These guys won 101 games.
The Braves stole the division from them at the end.
They tied in record, but remember they had that tie Braille.
and they went and swept them and, you know, that's a sour taste,
but 101 games and now you're bringing in these guys.
Like you said, man, Mets fans are like, fuck yeah.
Jim, didn't you had Nimmo as your manscape signing of the winner?
I did.
Yeah.
The Mets are pretty hairy.
The Mets are like decidedly the hairiest post-game shower in all of baseball right now.
That staff, Buck.
Are you sure?
Vogelback, Alonzo.
It's just a lot of.
It's a lot of like man hair.
Yeah.
It's Alonzo taking a shower.
I feel like in the city, though, they're all taken care of themselves.
They're escaping.
You got to.
They will be after they hear this up.
You have to manscape.
And I mean, 2023's on the way, Trev.
And you don't want to be letting pubes get in the way of your New Year's Eve plans.
God, that's the worst.
So go to manscaped, get their lawnmour 4.0.
It's kind of the leader of their performance package.
4.0, the perfect package for your package, if you know what I'm saying. They've got body wash
in there now, like you were saying, Treve, you got to be, you got to, you practice how you play,
and you play how you look, and you smell how you look. So if you're smelling good, you're looking
good, you're playing good. The lit bomb lights up. Oh, I need a little bit of that right now.

Happy New Year's to your balls, Brandon Nimmo.
Hmm.
Good for the Mets.
That's the overarching thing of all of this.
They bring back Nimmo.
I kept wondering where the Nimmo price tag was going to land.
I thought it was going to get near 200.
Eight years is crazy.
Looking back at these fan graph.
FanGraphs, as much as we love them and I love Rasta Resource,
they're going to have to change their crowd source results
because they've been low every year.
This year they're getting killed by the new CBA and teams bidding high.
Teams are spending like crazy right now.
Right, but you had to anticipate that a little bit.
You know, I think I did Awaken Jake.
Computer stink.
With Foolish Bailey and we were over on everything
because you were like, you know, if Justin Verlander's available
and Aaron Judge is available,
they were going to break the bank.
This second tiers, and we'll get to Bogarts in a minute.
But Brandon Nimmo again, eight years, 162.
Good for him, good on the Mets, bringing him back.
And I think the other thing in play here,
you know, we thought the Blue Jays might be in on Nimo.
I know a couple teams were wondering the West Coast teams
that had missed out on a couple other players.
Would they be in on Nimo?
He goes back to the Mets.
I think Toronto has so far gotten screwed this year.
because there's a little bit of a Toronto tax you have to pay to bring a lot of American-born
players to Toronto.
It just kind of is what it is.
Real taxes up there living in a foreign country.
That I think Nimmo was a great and kind of perfect fit for the Jays.
And I think just being what the Mets and Cohn were doing, they bring their guy back.
And he feels comfortable there, obviously.
And, you know, I think when you have a chance to do that,
Yeah, when you have a, when you're a free agent for a good team, a team that you've had success for and, you know, if he likes playing in New York and has found it like, you know, he can live there, then totally makes sense to continue to be with that team.
With an owner like Steve Cohen throwing money out there, you're never out of it.
I'm just, yeah, it's crazy to think about, you know, where their payrolls out.
I told BPD to get those numbers ready.
And this CBT, this competitive balance tax,
they put the fourth one in.
Basically, it's like the Stevie Cohen tax.
A fourth tier was added in the CBA.
Guess what?
Of course he's going over it.
Like what?
If you have a tax named after you,
you better go over it.
And he did, right, BBD?
Oh, he's over it.
Still trying to find the exact number, but.
That's awesome.
I got it.
It's awesome that he went over that tax.
Yeah, had to.
I mean, almost the MLB, the MLB, he'd shit everyone who gets upset about that.
MLB dared them.
Yeah.
I have the numbers.
Okay.
Trevor, our numbers guy.
MLB trade rumors.
I'm reading the article right now.
Okay.
So the fourth tier is $293 million.
Okay.
The Mets are set to have $104.85 million in taxes alone, according to fan graphs.
11 teams
total payroll will not exceed
104.85 million dollars.
The taxes alone.
This guy is, he came in
and like I said, he said some
things and he's been doing what he
said.
There's no way around it. There's been so many
episodes of talking Yanks
the past five years where we were
like, well, you know, if the Yankees
go over the tax, they should blow through
it and go. Because why not?
Once you're over it, go over it.
And now Cohen's doing it with the Mets, man.
A little bit of jealousy to Mets fans, which is a sick thing.
It is, man.
They're all old, too, which I like.
How many players are on the Mets that are in arbitration
that they're going to heavily lean on?
Alonzo?
Is he the only starter?
I mean, looking at starting pitching or starting nine,
that's in arbitration still?
They're all...
Jeff McNeill?
McNeil
Okay
Yep
I forgot about him
I mean he might be traded
If they're still trying to make moves
There's rumors of that
Vogelbach
Yeah also
Is he like heavily relied on?
You're right now
This is a veteran laden team
100%
Yeah
And then you got Buck
Running it
So that's cool
David Robertson snuck in at the end there
I like that
Yeah you know
He had a great
He had a great year last year
Now they kind of
They traded for Brooks Raley
From Tampa
You know like anytime you can steal
A pitcher from Tampa
You do it
So you got
Diaz, obviously, in the back end.
You have David Robertson back there,
Rayleigh, Drew Smith. I mean,
they have some names. They can go get more.
I think they probably will.
You know, like certain teams value, like,
one side of the ball. It seems like they'll pay hitters
or they'll pay pitchers.
The Mets value all sides of the ball.
They, it would not surprise me if we saw them to continue to go.
I know that he's already spent at a historic pace
and they've been bringing these guys in,
but I just, I think they're going to
continue to go.
Why not?
I mean, at least one year deals, like just bump it up for this year.
Who cares?
Once you're over, over.
So if there's any like, you know, once the market sorts out and there's anyone left
that is going to help your team in 20, 23, why wouldn't the Mets just go off from a one-year
deal?
You're over.
Come back home.
Conforto.
Why not?
Okay.
You want to move on to the next team?
I think we should.
What do you guys want to do next?
Find out what they choose.
after these messages, take your bets.
Do you think they're going to choose the Red Sox or the or the Padres?
I think it's all connected, Jim.

I got words in caps.
Yeah, like when you kind of yell at the people.
Well, why is draft kings now?
Why is now in all caps?
What are you doing?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Where you guys want to go?
Mm-hmm.
Padres.
Padres get their third choice.
They said, hey, we're going to throw a ton of money around.
Trey Turner, we love you.
Sign.
We love you, Trey Trenner.
We love you, Trey.
We're going to make you the highest paid shortstop ever.
We're going to take you away from the Dodgers, and it's going to be amazing.
Oh, Judge, sneak attack, $400 million.
Hey, we got that.
We found $400 million.
You want to play baseball in San Diego, Aaron, Judge?
I like the cold.
Okay, who's next?
Who's next?
Who's next?
Xander.
You want a ton of money?
Zander says, yeah.
Yes.
He said, I'll take that.
11 years, $280 million for Zander to play shortstop.
I mean, let's do the Padre side.
For a couple years.
Let's do the Padre side of this.
Yeah, I mean, that opening press conference,
that was like the first question,
did they say where you're going to play?
And he was like infield,
and then he caught himself and he said shortstop.
So we already got some good stuff there.
There.
Dude, Zan...
And why did he not button it up?
Why didn't he button it up?
Oh, you got to leave it all.
You got to kind of have the weird press conference.
San Diego.
People were talking.
San Diego.
Good time time.
Zandiego's awesome.
That is really cool.
Everyone's going to talk about Judge and, you know, the best free agency bet ever.
The guy turned down 200 plus million, broke the home run record, got 360.
We thought Judge was going to land around 300 million, kind of.
anyways, and he lands at 360.
Bogart's, I think people thought, you know, $150 to two, depending years in how you do the contract.
He ends up at $280.
He might be the biggest winner of this whole free agency that San Diego was hell-bent on getting someone,
and they made him to someone.
So, yeah, I know the baseball riders online were doing the fun, like,
well, San Diego's best shortstop might be playing second base.
their most talented shortstop might be in the outfield.
Machado could have been a shortstop,
but he's one of the best third baseman ever.
Don't care.
They're going to put Croninworth at first for now.
And they've got a stacked infield.
And bogey's going to be in that middle of that lineup,
hitting around 300, just doing his thing.
In the middle, he might hit 7.
Who knows?
Put him wherever.
Doesn't matter.
God.
280 for Z.
Vander, good for him.
We have a great stat on our sheet here.
Love stats.
Because we have the Red Sox offer.
So the Red Sox offer, allegedly or reportedly, excuse me, six years 162.
So the Padreys offered him five extra years, $118 million more dollars.
And the AAV was very similar.
I mean, it's just, the Red Sox didn't really want him, apparently.
Or did the Padres just want him the most?
I don't know what it is.
But as far as like the shortstop thing, you know my take on this.
Get nine short stops out there.
I don't care.
That's what you want.
You want the best athletes out there.
Their defense is going to be great.
James, you always said during the year,
the Padres just make plays that other teams don't make.
Yeah, now with the shift not being allowed and every person's got to play the position they're at,
why not just have a bunch shortstaps all over?
Put a shortstop in second base.
There you go.
And they can hit.
too, that's the thing.
These aren't like short stops to just pick the ball.
Yeah, I mean, it's pretty nuts what they're doing.
I saw a bunch of people, you know, we heard people saying,
and Jake said it kind of joking.
Like, where are the Padres get this money from?
And the answer is so awesome.
Same place where your owner could get the money from.
They could all do this.
And this is maybe Cohen bumping the needle.
And the new CBA bumping the needle on.
And who owns the Padres now?
It's like the son of the dude
or own the Dodgers way back when
or the nephew or something.
So it's baseball history.
It's he should move the team back east.
That would be hilarious.
Peter Sidler.
I think his uncle or grandfather
was the one who moved the Dodgers
to Brooklyn, to L.A.
Are you talking about moving the Padres right now?
Well, his relative owned the Dodgers
and moved them from Brooklyn
to L.A.
So if he wants to, you know,
continue the family legacy,
move the Padres to Maryland.
Jersey City.
Jersey City Padres.
Yeah.
We got a spot.
Padres fans so excited.
A week and five days
listening to us talk about
the Padres getting bogars.
We're talking about moving the franchise?
11 years.
Although I'm until he's 41
or until they decided to just cut bait.
It's funny.
We thought the 10-year contracts were done
because they were for a little bit.
And it's like, well, actually, if you're in the tier of good, good, good, good,
we actually would love to spread it out over 15 years.
The Pajs offer judge apparently a 14 year,
or they were discussing a 14.
They just want to spread that money out.
The MLB would have rejected that, the CBA.
Well, you know how it works, Jim.
By the time they get to that,
then 20 million's like nothing.
Nothing, yeah.
And he's in,
and you know,
Zander's earned so much,
he's like,
whatever,
I don't care,
keep it.
Now the rumors is.
I love this team.
I love the freaking San Diego Padreys.
Do you have Tatis on the team?
Do you have the team that you're looking at that you love?
You have them on the team?
I do.
Why not?
Are you kidding me?
Like,
look,
I get it.
He's,
he's fell from grace.
Like,
I get it.
Like,
this,
he's got,
he's got to come back and perform.
Okay.
he had the dumb stuff with the motorcycles going on.
Then he has got the PED stuff.
His brother just gotten like a bad motorcycle accident.
His did?
His brother.
Well, our best wishes to him.
I mean, this guy like, yeah, he's got to earn back people's favor.
But like you saw him play baseball guys.
Like the guy is incredible.
He's incredibly talented.
He's going to come back.
I think we're going to end up forgetting about a lot of the stuff.
and you're going to want him on your team.
I can't sit back and say,
yeah, the Padres are better off
trading Fernando Tatis Jr.
That's just not, I don't believe that.
I don't see how anyone could.
So get all these guys on the field together,
all healthy.
I think we're going to be looking at one of the more entertaining teams
in all of baseball.
I'm interested.
Without a doubt.
I'm just interested to see how big of a rush they are
to get Tatis back.
Because I think they're right now going to enjoy twisting the knife on him a little bit.
All the quotes that came out from Preller and the Padres when like he, they're like,
Jesus, he needs to grow up.
He needs to mature.
If they're rolling and there's not a spot open, I don't, they probably will because
he's really, really good.
Where's he going to play?
Tatis has said he's a shortstop forever.
So that's, it's going to be very interesting when that happens.
He doesn't have a choice in that anymore, to be honest.
I know. I mean, you already kind of don't have a choice in that. You can make your voice
heard a little bit, but you got to play where they play you, especially when they give you that money.
Well, on a, I think it's an upcoming episode of the Rose rotation. We, Rose and I chatted
with Bob Melvin. Rose did the chat. I was right. I was sitting right there, though. But,
and he said, you know, Fernando said, obviously I'd like to play shortstop, said all the right
things, would like to play shortstop, but I'll play wherever you tell me to.
Good job. You know what? We're going to, we're probably going to be a little
foggy on the day that he comes back from suspension.
It's April 20th.
Ooh, froggy.
Juan Soto's still the best player on the team.
And Manny Machado can now opt out after this year or the next year.
And we'll opt out, seeing all the money these old guys just got.
Yes.
Juan Soto is the best guy in the team.
Juan Soto is the best player.
What Manny Machado did last year, two-way compared to Soto.
Okay.
Kind of bloom out of the water.
Okay. Okay. Offensibly.
Okay.
Okay.
When Soto, yes, two-way.
He's playing third base instead of a corner off-field.
But I just, my point was more so.
I think people are down on forgetting who Soto is when he's right because he-
You're going to get a great Soto in 2020-3.
I think you, yeah.
They're going to see him.
He's nuts.
He's crazy.
Get all those guys on the field.
Yeah, all those guys on the field.
I mean, like you kind of started there, Treve.
Like let the rest will figure itself out.
Compared to the Mets, this team's young.
Yeah.
And then look, you got your butt kicked by the Dodgers in the regular season,
but then you beat him in the postseason.
I mean, that's big going into next season.
I still think the Padres are going to go get one of these pitchers.
Bassett is still out there.
I don't know if they're in.
Bassett will be perfect.
I don't know if they're in on Rodon, but maybe they were in on Judge.
So they still need another pitcher there,
especially because Darvish and Snell are free agents after this year.
You want to lock someone up now,
so you're not fishing for all that talent next year.
And I think for the Padres, you can, you know,
the Phillies ended up laughing because the Mets and the Braves all season.
They're in the race.
They win 1001 games.
Phillies make it to the dance.
They go to the World Series.
But, you know, they flew pretty close to the sun.
A couple things go wrong with the Phillies at the end of the season,
and they don't even make the dance.
I think if you're the Padres,
you're kind of laughing at the Dodgers.
Like, hey, go win 111 again.
We'll see you in the postseason with Darvish, Musgrove, and Snell
in our meat of our lineup.
Like, we'll dance with anyone.
So I think they have that formula.
And it's partially because, you know,
we'll see where the Giants end up.
But with the other team,
the other three teams in that division,
not being too much of a scare right now,
I think, hey, just play good ball.
And we'll be there in October.
Let's talk about short stops real quick with how this affects the rest of the market there.
Turner's gone.
Bogart's gone.
Now it's Dansby or Correa.
I said when Turner got signed, I said that the Padres would probably go get Zander
and then the Giants get Dansby just because the options made for them.
Like the cheaper of the best, if they're the top four, I know there's a big, big difference between Correa and Dansby.
I wonder if that will still happen.
If it does, I'm going to feel good about,
myself for being a genius.
I don't know where Carlos Gray is going.
I don't know why it's so quiet.
Isn't that quiet though?
I mean,
I don't know.
Hand up.
When winter meetings ended,
I stopped following rumors because now there's no like deadline to them.
So they're kind of just annoying in my opinion.
What I've seen is the Yankees are brewing up something big.
So that's not very quiet.
That is,
like twins guys are being loud about it.
That is such bullshit.
because whenever Cashman and the Yankees make a move,
it's not like it's as secretive as the Braves,
but it's never like multiple days of leading up to it.
It's either like the most secret or the least secret.
Yes.
It's never been like,
you get a couple days of rumors.
What's so messed up is I think about these teams that make these offers
and like don't get the players,
like you kind of feel bad for them.
Like the twins were over here being like,
Carlos, we love you.
Please come play for us.
Come on, man.
And he's just like,
anybody else?
That should be,
we should make that the meme,
like the kid in class that's like me,
me,
me, me,
teacher's just like,
all right.
It sucks, dude.
I feel the giants.
The giants are doing that right now too.
I mean,
they even got burned by Haman and an arson.
And like,
you just.
Did you see my video of him?
Look for him a little bit.
Do you see my video of him walking around, Treb?
That's how he walks around all the whole four days.
I, uh, sometimes Joel Sherman.
It really changes your perspective of like the man behind the tweets.
It's eye opening to be like, oh, that's why I always give my warning.
Don't, don't just mute.
You know, I texted you guys.
I had a run in with Scotty B.
Yeah.
Scott Boris for those.
at home that don't know him as Scotty B.
I was down in Newport, hanging with my good friend,
and Scotty B was out.
And I thought about saying, hey, like, I'm for sale.
Like, you got some other guys.
Like, if you need another one, like, let me know.
But I didn't.
I didn't go there.
And he did mention a team to me, like randomly.
I was a little buzz, so, like, I'm not sure the context.
But until he pays me, I'm not going to mention any teams.
For who?
Correa or you?
Does he have Korea?
I don't think he has Correa.
He does.
That's why Carrera signed the short deal.
He does have Correa?
That's why he signed the short deal last time.
If you say,
if you,
Hey,
don't become,
I didn't think,
I did not think,
I didn't even put it together.
Yeah,
but he might be,
I'm not doing it.
He might be using you.
I have a team,
but I'm not going to say anything.
He knows your only thing I'll say is.
He knows you got a mic,
dude.
You have the number one baseball show in the world.
This is how arson happens.
This is what he said to me.
This is what he said to me.
Did he buy you dinner?
He goes,
he goes,
no,
this is after dinner.
And I was with,
I was with Staffy,
right?
Matthew Stafford for those at home.
He comes up and he goes,
hey,
you're doing really well for yourself.
And he looks at him and goes,
man,
you look like you could still play.
And he was buttering me up.
Because then he mentioned a team.
And then he was talking about,
how he saw Matthew in high school,
number 20.
I know what you were doing, Scott.
He tried to play the player.
Yeah, I got you, bro.
Send a check my way.
Dansby and Correa is nuts.
The Cubs are supposed to be in on one of them, right?
Remember, that was a thing.
You got to wonder if Boston's going to bounce back
and make a move on someone,
because it seemed like at the end they wanted Bogarts
for just a very different price tag.
And then the Giants,
They're kind of looking for a face of the franchise, which, you know, Dansby kind of looks like he could be Brandon Crawford's cousin and maybe pass the torch there with some solid.
I was going to say that too.
That was.
Yeah, okay.
Or, I mean, Correa, everyone's kind of doing, everyone's kind of doing a game of chicken.
Like, who's going to go for this guy?
This 28-year-old stud on both sides of the ball, he's got some WWE flair to him.
And the Dodgers dropped the whole.
I thought the Dodgers were going to be on in on.
him because they didn't make their move and they came out and said,
I think the fans wouldn't like it, which I think
they're just going to hide behind that one that they don't want Correa and
they'll just use the fan. We're doing this for you guys.
We're not going to give them 300 mil for you.
We, that came out.
See, Rose and I did a show and both of us were like, dude, you think the front
office, they don't care. And I was like, you know what? And Dodger fans
wouldn't care either if they got him on the team.
And our comment section on that video was like, you don't know the
fan base. I hate that guy.
Like, it was crazy, you know. Yeah, I don't, I don't, I mean, if the Yankees get Correa,
I will suck it up and root for it. I, I, if I had a vote, I'd say no, 100%. And I, I think
Dodgers fans do feel that way. But I don't think the front office should act on it. But
Correa, the Dodgers don't do long-term deals, uh, with free agents and they don't, uh,
do Boris clients. And they publicly said they're not in on him. So I mean, it would be really
weird if they all that just like comes around that yeah this is a team we haven't really talked about
they haven't done much and they are in the market for a shortstop a lot of people will say yeah
you can just move Gavin Lux there but I believe they want one and like I think we could see a
dance be there dance be in L.A. a twinkle in his eye Bray's reunion just got married yeah congratulations
friend of the show early friend of the show yeah Mallory
I wasn't going to docks her.
They're pretty famous.
They're like a famous couple.
They're kind of like a sneaky, sneaky big.
Their wedding photos were in People Magazine.
People Magazine.
Winger was there.
What's this magazine about?
I used to love People Magazine, dude.
No.
I think my grandma got it at her house.
You just had time on your hands.
That's just called being an athlete.
No, like when I was a kid, my grandma got it.
Oh.
All right.
Cool, cool, cool.
Let's move on to the Red Sox because they lose out on Zander.
Yeah.
Which I don't know.
Maybe should they have played that differently?
Should they have offered them a better contract and not even let him go to free agency?
Did they not care?
Did they think he was going to get back?
Before they paid more money for Yoshita than they offered Xander originally.
Like maybe they up there Zander offered, but it.
I think their preseason offered a Xander was like,
80 million.
Yeah.
And they gave Yoshida 85, 90, whatever it was.
Five year 90 for him.
The reports on the Yoshida signing were that people were just like flabbergasted that he got that much money.
Also, he got posted and signed by the Red Sox within like five hours or something like that,
like incredibly fast.
It was like, you had the ability to hear all your pitches or the Red Sox just came that hard with like a five-hour
our time limit on it. This is our offer, but you only have five hours to say yes. I don't know. It's
kind of bizarre how this went down. There's, there's some pretty heavy comps with this guy and
the way he, you know, approaches hitting. You know, they're saying he's Japan's Juan Soto. I've,
I've heard that. Very plate discipline oriented. Not a ton of power there, but I like that.
Plate discipline translates. That's what I'll say. A lot of times power might not translate or
you know gap to gap ability but plate discipline typically translates and i'd like to see him at
the major league level and and you know i think this is a this is a signing to get excited about
but you want you wanted bogarts too you wanted jansen you wanted yoshita and you wanted
bogart so we talked about this a little bit how you know Trevor story was kind of the you know
insurance plan if bogart's left at least you can move him over and then kind of figure out
second base.
I think if you're a Red Sox fan,
you're still hoping that maybe you go out
and get another free agent shortstop
or somebody else that's out there on the market.
You're hoping they're not done if you're the Red Sox.
I don't think this is enough,
even though I like both of these signs,
Jansen and Yoshi.
Yeah, I mean, I really think they wanted Bogart's back.
I think this Red Sox regime wants to play things
as close to the chest as they can.
And then as it was getting in the final hours,
We were on the flight back from winter meetings,
and I tweeted out,
I had basically been under the assumption
that Xander was not going to go back to the Red Sox.
I don't know.
There wasn't a lot of smoke and fire there.
Everyone was getting paid a lot of money.
You know, this Heim and their crew,
it doesn't seem they're about the overpay.
And we'll see what goes on with Yoshida.
I mean, I'm going to be honest.
Same thing I said about Senga.
I have no idea.
You're not watching a Japanese baseball.
I don't.
I don't.
I'm not as plugged in as I'd like to be.
Um, who knows?
The kid could be a star.
Uh, he could be league average.
He could be below average.
We had no idea.
All the options.
We have no idea.
So if they were...
He could get afraid of the journey and not even come.
If they were bringing in Yoshida, with Bogart's coming back, you start to talk yourself
into a game plan, right?
Like maybe Yoshida's the truth.
Uh, bogey's back.
Trevor Story, his second year in the AL East.
Maybe he gets better.
Um, you know, Tristan Kossis, can he?
be a breakout guy for the socks. Kike was out for a chunk of last year. You know,
without Bogarts though, who day in, day out, shortstop, hitting 300, like a constant threat.
You know, and he, I'd have to go through all-time Red Sox, but if, you know, he's a guy wearing
number two that, like, if he played another six years with the Red Sox, you're retiring that
number and it's an incredible career. I don't know. I think they got blindsided. I don't
think they expected the Padres to come in as crazy as they have come in and they were looking
to get their guy. Bogarts was next in line. And yeah, I think they're, they, if you're the Red Sox,
you have to be eyeing Danesby and Correa. I mean, Dansby, he can have the Boston vibe with
the hair and the beard and, you know, Dansby Swanson, you know, people saying it in the weird voice.
Correa, a Jakeism that has evolved during this whole process of talking into microphones is do what
the other team doesn't want you to do. If the Sox signed Correa, Yankee fans don't like that.
Because guess what? When he comes up in the eighth inning of a tied game, I know what he does.
So if you're the Red Sox, I don't know what your plan is. I don't know where the money's at.
But if Dansby or Correa is not coming into town, this offseason is kind of a failure,
unless there's like big trades, unbeknownst to me. Because what's their big move? This was a
last place team last year.
Don't be mean.
It's facts only.
Scotty B, staffy,
and me.
They got Janssen.
Facts only.
They got Janssen.
I do like what they've done with their bullpen.
They needed to address their starting staff.
Kenley and Chris Martin
are two guys that I like in the back end.
Oh, wow.
I have a scouting report on
Masataka Yoshida.
And I'm just watching videos
again from Jolly Olive's YouTube channel,
one of the most informative channel
as soon as the guy gets posted,
I guess Jolly goes and runs to his computer and informs us.
He's got nice hair,
really good teeth.
Small.
He's like 5'7.
And this swing reminded me of Hedekhi Matsui light.
Like if Hedkeematsui had a child who was hotter,
better skin.
Sexy child.
Yeah.
More into sex than porn.
This would be, look at this swing.
Come on.
God, as soon as I saw that guy on the mountain, I knew that was an American, just by the way, he was standing.
Yeah.
And so did Yoshida.
And he little.
Yeah.
It's like this freaking, am I going to love him?
The straight fastball.
Little guy.
Yeah.
You didn't know.
You didn't know.
You didn't know.
Yeah.
Look at this.
Look at this.
He kind of smiles before the pitch comes.
It's really cool.
I don't know if you can see it.
Like, he does this little like, watch, wait for it.
Wait.
Oh, yeah.
See it right there?
It was at the end.
It's like, oh, an American.
I will light you up.
Those guys just throw straight over the top.
I thought you guys knew he was a short king
That's obviously to play into your demo Jake
Yeah, I knew he was a short king
And I also, he's not great defensively
But they're gonna put him in left field in front of the Monsta
And whatever
Mani played out there
Who wins in a fight him or Jeff Passon
Him, him easily
Passing concedes
Just says beat me up and let me write the story
Oh, he would love that
Good story
Jake would get beat up
Some content
Me up he's probably jacked up
Some content coming soon
Of that you guys would start
You would get to the ground
And people would be like what's going on
Yeah
We don't like this
Okay
Wouldn't video grab
Double leg lock
What
Rolling
Those are the big stories
That we're saving some of the
Other big stories that we're saving some of the other big ones for
Wednesday in case nothing else
Huge happens
So we can move on
and tackle one more.
The Rangers got Andrew Heaney,
two years 25.
Called that one.
I think I said, you know,
one of these teams that believes
he needs better now is going to go get him.
He does have that new pitch.
So that's good.
Good for Heen Dog.
Two years, 25 mil.
Signs with Texas.
They get a lefty.
Their rotation is now.
They're rounding out the rotation, man.
Yeah.
It's going to, I'm,
look, I'm interested in the Rangers.
now. How about that? And if you're a Rangers fan, I guarantee you're perked up now. You got
DeGrom, you did what you did last year. Especially after hearing what DeGram said about how they're
trying to win the World Series, which is aligned perfectly with what he was trying to do. And
that's why he chose him ultimately. Because a lot of the other teams, that's, do I sense a change in your
voice. Yeah. I mean, that was the, I was, I mean, I know you got to pander and
say dumb shit to the media, but to Grom, like, are you personality to Lee List?
Like, what, what the fuck was that?
He just wanted to get done.
He's like, I got all this money.
Let me go spend it.
But you can, like, be dismissive.
You got to go buy my oil ranch.
You can do stuff.
It's like, he was like, he's going to go buy a bunch of mineral rights and just like strike
oil.
It's so nothing.
You know, Jake.
Athletes are very protective.
I mean, Madison, I remember Madison Bumgarner signed with the dime back?
and everyone was like, cool, yeah, I think he got some horses down there.
And then we found out he was just a rodeo guy on the side.
What was his name?
Mason Saunders.
Yeah.
How do I know that?
Back of my head.
I know I would have his fake rodeo name in my head.
It's in my brain.
Jacob de Grom, 10 out of 10 in the uni, though.
Like that was something I didn't see coming.
It did look good.
I didn't see that coming either.
But hey, you always say you don't know what the Rangers are doing.
Their ultimate goals to win the World Series.
Okay.
Now you know.
Look, it's a whole new regime.
I can get back with the Rangers now because it's a whole new regime.
It's just such a cool selling point.
Think about that.
Signing a guy and letting him know.
We're trying to win the whole thing.
I think we're going to save Wilson and Treas for next.
Yeah.
Yep.
Yeah.
Saving that for next up.
I love it.
Hopefully some big news on top of that, one of the two short stops or Road Don.
All right.
Yeah.
Rodon to the Yankees.
Wow.
No, the Padres probably go steal them and give them so much more.
Nah.
Nah.
Let's get a trade.
We haven't had a big trade yet.
I want a big one.
Saw someone tweet.
I just got some sources that there might be one coming.
Ew.
The people's sources back?
Medium sized or big?
They're doing the, uh, you don't know until you know.
I've got rumor that it's big, but I don't know.
Are you asking to Pinky Swear?
Uh,
Friendship.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
Thank you guys for tuning in.
Appreciate you.
It's back.
It's up to the Rockies.
Hot.
Jason Hayward to the Dodgers.
KK.
To Toronto.
I actually really like that.
