Starting point is 00:00:01 Hello and welcome to Talking Baseball. We are live in person. Me and Trev in Jersey City with what three series recaps left, two? It's real. Teams are dead. Teams are dead. Sandy Alcantara. 1995.
Starting point is 00:00:19 Move on. Out of the bullpen. We're not sure why. Talking baseball. Welcome back, people. It's presented by Fanatic Sports and Casino. If you're locking in your baseball. Baseball bets, fanatic sports and casino is a place to do it.
Starting point is 00:00:34 Winning, hits different here. And winning hits different when me and coach and Rob and Dalt. We're all in one very hot room in Jersey City, New Jersey. Get ready, people. It's F or F season because there's a couple teams in the AL that might be screwing the pooch. That's a weird phrase when you really think about it. There's a couple. The NL might be decided.
Starting point is 00:00:59 I think my snakes are dead. Oh, no. I hope Tori Lavello hears it. I hope they ride it on the wall. I hope they all say Jake sucks and they come back, but it might be over. Trevor, how are you?
Starting point is 00:01:10 You felt that electricity that we touched right there. A lot of people around baseball, what are they doing? Clutching their pearls. That's an expression for some reason. I actually understand that more than screwing the pooch. That can't be the actual wordplay. I didn't end as we should. People that listen to every episode,
Starting point is 00:01:31 Obviously, thank you so much. Did have a lot of people reach out to tell me that females do have testosterone after the last episode. So that's good. We're learning on this show. Can I say something? I've been getting my algorithm got me. And there's this other podcast, very popular. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:48 It's called the Giggly Squad. Add. I'm a Giggler. Oh. Apparently. I am. I am. I actually enjoy it.
Starting point is 00:01:55 We're the Giggly Squad for baseball. I think so. We knock off Giggly Squad? Yeah. Oh, Giggly Squad baseball. Because you're Italian and, you know, like you have your dark hair. I like athletic build over here. I don't, I feel, I feel good about that comparison.
Starting point is 00:02:09 What about my build? Beautiful. Okay. Good answer. Let's yuck some ball. Like I said, the San Diego Padres are changing the whole National League playoff picture. Ryan Cohen is out of his mind and that's not helping it. The White Sox and the guards continue to steal the shirt.
Starting point is 00:02:30 Did you know it's September 17th, and the Cleveland Guardians are in first place in the Yale Central? Clockwork. Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick. We're going to talk about all of that. The A.L. West is tied. Why don't you start talking about? Let's get into it. It's Thursday, which means we start with the Interleague play.
Starting point is 00:02:55 Just kidding. We don't do that anymore. We're doing the National League, and it starts off with the Atlanta Braves and mostly MV. Pete. What Pete Crow Armstrong is doing this year is out of his mind. He drove in four runs in the first game, so he followed it up with two homers in the last game. They won both of those games. Atlanta came back in that middle dance. Ronald Cooney Jr. got involved. There's a lot of PCA talk because it's one of the more special seasons we've seen, and Treve and I can actually tell people we're friends.
Starting point is 00:03:31 The Miami Marlins said, you know what? Sandy, go end the Diamondback season. So he did. He started the first game. Why not? He pitched in that. That's actually the game the Diamondbacks won. And he was so pissed off that Corbyn Carroll and the fellas did it to him.
Starting point is 00:03:47 He came back and he closed game three. Why? We've been racking our brains. We have some fan fiction theories. You know Estuary Ruiz got involved, because he's going to stay in. involved in this game forever. I love the fish. Snakes may be dead. Dodgers take three out of four from Cincinnati, and that's obvious because they ran into Scobal and Yamamoto the first two games.
Starting point is 00:04:11 Probably be talking about that in October as well. Snell was pitching the third game. You know how much I love him? He leaves with a left groin injury. We'll talk about what that means. Elie has gone nuts recently. And Kyle Tucker with a four-hit day. Huh. Interesting. Padres, like I told you, they took three out of four from the rock piles. They won eight in a row after winning the first game. They dropped the second, the Cole Carrig Show. But then it's Padres the rest of the way, including the 20-year-old Ethan Salas, hitting two home runs.
Starting point is 00:04:46 Padres, listen to Trev's standings. Brewers take two out of three from the pirates, and that's obvious. The Brewers clinched the NL Central on Mizorowski Day. Yelly, two-run single in the seventh to take it. Pittsburgh. They salvage a set. Great. It's over.
Starting point is 00:05:02 Phillies and Nat split two. He? It's that time of year. Sanchez has been getting knocked around a little bit. Zach Wheeler did not in that second star. Seven scoreless innings from him. Arguably the series of the week for no reason, but a lot of reasons. The Mets and the Orioles played, and it was a headline festival.
Starting point is 00:05:23 Pete gets, we're going to talk about a lot. My heart literally gets torn up. Pete Alonzo. what he did in Flushings this weekend. And the Orioles swept your final NL series that you will not hear about. The Giants took two out of three from the Cardinals. Those final two games, Christian Koss, Turner Hill,
Starting point is 00:05:44 bootstrap Bill's boy, Anthony Molina threw 5.2 scoreless. I like his fastball and breaking pitches. That's what happened. Drew Gilbert chokes went out. That's what happened in the National League. I just, I had made a discovery that's going to make this episode so fun. Wait for that towards the end. Congratulations on a great job there.
Starting point is 00:06:07 I have the standings. Do you need them? Yes, you do. We'll start out east. For the Atlanta Braves have a four and a half game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies, 89 and 64 for them. Philly's 84 and 68. Marlins, one game under 76 and 77.
Starting point is 00:06:23 Should I continue to read all this? Oh. It's late. National 71 and 82. Matt, 69 and 83. What is you doing? Jolly, Olive. The brewers have clinched the division. Congratulations.
Starting point is 00:06:37 95 and 58. They're 10 games above the Chicago Cubs who were 85 and 68. The Pirates, 76 and 77. The Cardinals, 75 and 78. That's your team. I know. The Red, 71 and 82. They're all eliminated from the division.
Starting point is 00:06:53 I told you that already. The Dodgers, they won the NOS. 93 and 60 for them. them. The Padres, nine games back, 84 and 69 for them, 80 and 73 for the snakes, 64 and 89 for the Giants in 56 and 97 for Kelsey Winger's rocks. How about the wild card? Let's do it. Right now, the Chicago Cubs would have, would be hosting the Philadelphia Phillies by half of a game. The Padres now with a four game lead over the Arizona Dimebacks. So it would be Cubs hosting the Phillies, and it would be the Braves hosting the Padres. Those are your standings in the National League.
Starting point is 00:07:38 Man, that Braves, Braves Padres. 1998? I still, oh. Right? NLCS, Braves Padres. I think the Padres beat him. It's a good educated get. Padres go to the World Series.
Starting point is 00:07:51 98 is a great year in my mind. I don't know what, I was 12. 98 is a great year in my mind. That's, that's, that's, uh, that's, Mark McGuire, Sammy Sosa, right? 98. McGuire Sosa, yes. I went to Las Vegas and like with my friend and his dad and he just gave
Starting point is 00:08:09 it like a hundred bucks to go to the arcade and he went gambling. It was awesome. $100 back then. It was all, you had to do quarters. It was like a thousand bucks. We had so many quarters. That's the standings in the National League. Like Treve was laying out, what you need to know. The Cubs, Phillies, and Padres
Starting point is 00:08:28 are all separated by a game. Half game with the Phillies in between them. San Diego is nine and one in their last 10. The Cubs and Phillies both limping a little bit, four and six in their last 10. And yet, think about all of that can jumble. One of them is going to play the Braves. Yeah, so that's, as of right now,
Starting point is 00:08:49 I read you with the matchups to be. It's all going to change. By Monday, it could all be different. But one of those three, unless Dalt's snakes, which I tried to give as much bulletin board material as I can to a franchise I love. One of those teams is going to Atlanta. One of those teams is hosting a playoff series. One of those teams is visiting that other team.
Starting point is 00:09:11 And all of them have real potential. Four games separating Atlanta and the Dodgers. You know, I'm just saying there's multiple options here. I don't. Okay. I don't believe so. This episode is sponsored by Jack Archer, finding a good pair of, pants shouldn't be this complicated, but somehow it always is. It's too stiff for the commute, too
Starting point is 00:09:33 casual for dinner, falls apart after a few weeks, wrinkles in seconds after you sit down. Jack Archer built the jet setter tech pants specifically, so none of that is your problem. All day stretch fabric that moves with you and actually holds up its shape by the end of the day. Rinkle resistant, like that a lot. Comes out of the dryer ready to wear no iron, no dry cleaner, stain repellent. Wow. So, liquid beads right off. That's cool. Packs flat, land sharp, built for travel without the carry-on creases. Three fits. Five in seams. Free exchanges if it's not perfect. Office, golf course dinner weekend. Nailed it. That's what I'm talking about. Over 6,000 five-star reviews. That means it's good, people. Right now, Jack Archer is offering our listeners 15% off your first order with promo code.
Starting point is 00:10:23 Get Jack. Get Jack. Go to Jack Archer.com. Use promo code get Jack 15% off your first order and see why thousands of people have given the jet setter tech pant five stars. Jack Archer.com promo code get Jack. Let's chew through some of it. And Atlanta and Chicago, two of the teams we just talked about. Could this be a playoff matchup? It could.
Starting point is 00:10:50 Yes, it could. And right now, I mean, as we're sitting here and what PCA has been able to do, you feel like this is a series the Cubs would like right now. I mean, listen, I get that you're going to get sale and there's going to be some things, and Atlanta's a good team, but the way that the offense is rolling for the Cubs and the opposite for the Braves and the way this series went.
Starting point is 00:11:15 I mean, I guess you can't really focus on PCA and him hitting three homers in two games, but this was a separator of a series? for me. Oh, interesting. Yeah, I think I'm trying to find the right way to phrase this. There's an argument of the four teams listed there. The Braves are like the least scariest. But, okay, I want to take all. It's a dangerous game. I want to take all that back because then I think about what happens when the Braves are right and they could be the best team. Exactly. And that's where, that's where this is, this NL wild card is honestly awesome. Like, I think maybe that should be the
Starting point is 00:11:54 zoom out. Because like, what the Padres and that bullpen can do, and when the offense is going, and we'll talk about them. And this Braves team that I just said they might be the least scariest. Well, flash forward in three weeks when Sale hasn't given up a run, the back end of their bullpen is nasty. Ronald Ocunia Jr., who I compared to young Manny Ramirez before the season, and Matt Olson, who plays every day and hits every home run,
Starting point is 00:12:16 like all of these teams could beat each other in seven game sets. They're going to get three games sets. So anyways, PCA, and we do this a couple times a year, and we never know when to do it in the series or the award. P. Crow Armstrong is going to win the MVP, which we've driven that home a couple times, and we still have to talk ourselves through. The most home runs by a left-handed cub ever.
Starting point is 00:12:38 The Cubs have existed since 1492. Columbus sailed the ocean blue, something like that. Kind of a little history up there. I'm out on Christopher Columbus. It's fine. Yeah, I am. No, I think you're on the good side there. I don't want to defend him.
Starting point is 00:12:53 A lot of good things happen for the Cubs, PCA, he's going to get to 40-40, and he's just turned in a magical season. I mean, there is some Craig Counsel quotes here. When he hit his second Homer, Alex Spragman was standing next to me. I said, Alex, we don't get to see things like this. You spend your whole life in baseball, and you just don't see this happen on a baseball field. And Craig Counsel, by the way, been around the game for a long time. I was shocked by the Craig Counsel, not in a rude way.
Starting point is 00:13:22 I think what he's saying is, number one, an MVP season is special. Now we get an MVP season every single year, but I think the maturation happening that quickly from PCA and what he did, and we knew he was going to be a great defender, started out great last year, but ended poorly,
Starting point is 00:13:39 was chasing everything, and like making a physical adjustment with his batting stance, and then going from, you know, who he was at the end of last year, even go by overall numbers, and just exponentially, you know, topping that.
Starting point is 00:13:54 offensively has been it is something I think you remember you're going to remember the season that PCA turned into a freaking monster Yeah and there's the numbers that go with it 10th career game This one was kind of crazy
Starting point is 00:14:09 10th career game with 10 plus total bases That's three more before anyone Anyone before the age of 25 You know 10 war Like when you start going into the seasons of guys who have done that I mean it's trout
Starting point is 00:14:24 It's A-Rod. It's a different level of player. Like, think of some of the names I just mentioned. Those are guys that at different times have been considered as the best player of all time. And these are pretty much all offensive stats where he's arguably the best defensive player in the league. Like, it's, it truly is an amazing season. And at the same time, I don't want to, like, I'm not poo-pooing Craig Counsel's quotes. I guess the point is, you can, we see a lot.
Starting point is 00:14:54 of talented guys to have it come together for 162 like this, it just doesn't happen. Agreed. He's been, it's been red hot. I want to go back to my initial statement about this being a changing of the guard. I do think there are some things that are in my head. You know, the Braves are dealing with starting in rotation injuries. Ranaldo Lopez goes back to the aisle. Cubs are kind of finding that in their own right. Like David Peterson's been pretty dang good for them. Kevin Gossman. You know, like they've kind of patched what I thought was not a strong point. Shoda has a nice game here. So it's like I think there are two teams.
Starting point is 00:15:34 One is kind of ascending-ish. And the other team's kind of been flat. Maybe not. Maybe I'm just totally wrong about it. Maybe I'm a victim of the moment. No, I think the Braves, yeah, they were hot. They limped for a while there. They picked it back up.
Starting point is 00:15:51 But now it's not as hot. And as we're seeing who's going to face them, it's going to be very interesting. And I don't know. We're going to have a lot of time to talk about all those teams. Ozzy Albies got slid down the lineup, and then he has a big game. Again, that Braves offense,
Starting point is 00:16:08 when you look at all the names on paper and what they could be, you start to daydream a little. Do you know what they did? They took care of business against the Phillies. Right? Yeah. So I got to hand them that. They took care of business.
Starting point is 00:16:20 Yeah. they're going to win a difficult NLEs. Martine Perez 100th career win. Snaps. Snaps for that. Let's see what's next for both teams. DeBax Marlins, like I said, I'm not proud to say it, but man, they drop two out of three to Marlins.
Starting point is 00:16:41 Marlins. Dalton, our resident DeBax fan, who assembles all of our information. J.M. Trivia Warehouse. You guys know Dalton? He said that game two, 11 inning game, Estuary Ruiz's three run double might have been the nail in the coffin. And that was before Sandy Alcantara, Major League Baseball's innings leader. Yes.
Starting point is 00:17:04 Decided. Yes. You guys, you want me to be the closer today, skip? And so he did. And we've had a lot of talks about that. I got more stuff coming on this. Oh, really? I found out some stuff.
Starting point is 00:17:18 Okay. I found out some stuff. And I'm going to push a little bit of fan fiction on Sandy and all this. But also, like, I kind of, I found something. I went digging and I found something. So let's just hold off talk on this. Maybe you mentioned Corbyn Carroll, walk off Homer in the first game,
Starting point is 00:17:37 which you did on the way through. Jordan Lawler doing his thing. But then, yes, it is the Marlins coming through an extra innings. And then it is, Sandy, locking it down. Gotta love that. More on it later. That's fair. That's fair. Marlins is still pesky, not exactly sure what they're fighting for, but my God, they're fighting. Tori Lavello with some funny quotes on it. I don't know. Let's save that. And I think series-wise, again, there's that Perdomo play at home. We just showed that. I still don't know the difference between blocking the plate and not blocking the plate. You have to have the ball.
Starting point is 00:18:15 You have a ball. You have a ball. You can block the base. And it's kind of weird because he's in the air, so did he give him a lane when he catches it? Like, Perdom was already sliding before he gets here. I think if you look right there, he's got a clear lane. Then he moves the foot over after he has possession of the ball. Okay. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:18:34 I'll believe it. We've had some interesting rule changes that I, like, I still kind of like don't understand the running down first base and where you need to be. I'd like to think we can get a little better with some of these rules because they throw me on. Dodgers Reds. Again, the Reds is over. The Dodgers season is just beginning. Nice, Jake. I'm Chris Rose. I got the fellas with that one. Yamamoto is a different level of nasty. I believe it's the best ERA in the NL in the second half. It's under two. It's fifth amongst pitchers with 50 or more innings in the second half. Silly. And that's following Scouble, who has one of his most impressive Dodgers.
Starting point is 00:19:18 starts the night before. And then Snell's, unfortunately, this is the topic, because Snell had been insane. He had a 104 yard in his last six starts. He's going to the I-L. So he's a guy that, I mean, going through some of his previous starts, I was like, yep, it's October. These are the Dodgers. Watch for Snell with his six-shut piece in the NLCS. That's out for a little bit. I am going to, I don't know if he's officially on the aisle. Did he hit it? I don't think he's officially on it, but he's, he said he felt something tight in his groin. Okay. Here's my judge segment on it too,
Starting point is 00:19:54 because it's kind of the same thing where they felt like... Oh, Aaron Judge. Aaron Judge. Where they felt like they got it early. Hey, I'm... Snell even was talking about his post-game interview. Hey, I caught it earlier. Previously, I would have tried to pitch to this.
Starting point is 00:20:07 I've had this injury before. I'm smart about it. I'm growing up, whatever it is. Judge felt the same way. He said it felt tight. My thing is, and I love Snell, I wish I want him to be healthy. You know that.
Starting point is 00:20:18 My issue is once you feel it tight, it's usually too late. It's usually too late. And even if you say I caught it early, it's like, did you though? Right. Again, not in the body. I've just had experience with it. So that would be, it's going to be tough. The Dodgers build up all this starting pitching depth.
Starting point is 00:20:38 And now they're down to three and a half starters, which is kind of crazy to think. Yeah. Can we look at when Sasaki's scheduled? like what's, I don't think he's going to be built up. So it's going to go Yamamoto. It's going to go scubel. It's going to go glass now. Then it's going to go some form of Emmett Sheehan and Robleski.
Starting point is 00:20:58 And then that's basically all you need. Right. But there's no, there's nothing behind that. Yeah. Robleski just came back. He threw three perfect innings. So that's not a bad guy to have. Edwin Diaz comes back this series and Dave Roberts says he'll have to earn his spot on the team
Starting point is 00:21:15 because he was getting rocked at AAA. So, again, one of the highest paid relievers ever. And there's some Dodgers stuff there. And then Otani could return for the final five games of the season. But not pitching. Not pitching. Essentially, he said I'm not pitching. And now he hasn't like, I guess they haven't said he's shut down,
Starting point is 00:21:30 but he said I'm going to be focusing on hitting from now on. And the other thing on Snell and groin, I was going to say like, oh, does this mean maybe he could bullpen? But like groin is groin. Like, it's not a matter of, oh, well, he can only throw 30 pitches now. Like, no, it's either in or you're out. See, this is, is this a quote? Because on our sheet, it says, you felt it grab.
Starting point is 00:21:51 He said, I felt it grab, or I'd got tight. I mean, he's the only one that would be speaking on it, right? Well, this isn't a quote. Okay. It's just in our notes. If you feel it grabbed, then, I think he said he felt it tight. But again, in my experience, once that's there, it's already too late. Ellie De La Cruz is playing well, and he could be the fourth ever read to get to 30-30.
Starting point is 00:22:16 10 games left. Brandon Phillips, that dude BP, Barry Larkin, that dude, Eric Davis. That guy. The guy, guy. San Diego is probably the biggest topic in the National League, and we tied it all together early on because it's what they're doing in the wild card.
Starting point is 00:22:36 They were neck and neck with the snakes. They have been the hottest team in baseball, and they face the Rockies, and they win three out of four. And, okay, in a way that's expected. But after that first one, like I said, it was eight straight. And then, man, like we said, Michael King needs to be the guy for them.
Starting point is 00:22:56 He gave them a six-inning start. Zander Bogartz is giving them some offensive output, which that has not been his season. So these Padres that have been up and down as one of the most exciting or disappointing teams over the past five years, they are now back in a dangerous spot of, I don't think anyone wants to play them
Starting point is 00:23:20 because of the bad man at the top of their lineup, the bad man at the back of their bullpen, and everything in between also has this Padres identity to them, which will have some identity talk when it comes to the Mets later. But San Diego is scary right now. Yeah, I mean, look, the guy started hitting, which we've been waiting on all, I mean, not all season long, because they've kind of been going to touch.
Starting point is 00:23:43 He's done it and Merrill looks good and Machado and all these things are rocking and rolling. I guess the only thing I would say about the Padres is I am, you know, the starting pitching is interesting. You know, Michael King's been great. Walker Bueller has been fantastic. Like he's kept them in every single baseball game. Given them, all they need from their starters is two times through the order. Truly. Right.
Starting point is 00:24:05 You know, if you get one going in, if King can go a little bit longer. But that's kind of the play for them. Get two times through the order. get a five and dive is not considered a bad thing if you're a San Diego Padre starter right now. Like obviously you want to, right? Five, five's great. Yeah, five's great. Five's great.
Starting point is 00:24:23 Because, you know, like, Robbie Ray hasn't been great for them. Casey Mises has been a little bit better as of late. It's like, I don't think you counted as like a strong suit. They're starting pitching, but I think they have enough knowing what's coming in the bullpen behind them. Hey, they're hot, man. Six from Rob Ray. 4.2 from Walker, Casey Mines for five. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:24:44 Yeah. Yeah. I have a little more Padres coming later. And yeah, man. We talked about this in the midweek a little bit with Ryan Cohn, but, you know, two for four from Samad Taylor. Two for four from... You love the auxiliary pieces of the Padres.
Starting point is 00:24:59 Three for five from Dustin Harris. Yeah. Ty France is back. Yeah. A couple three hit games this series. Like, he's had an... I know one of the things you're most excited about is his upcoming free agency because Ty France is going to get...
Starting point is 00:25:11 a bag of sorts. Yeah, there's a couple interesting, like, comps that you could go to. Like, Mike Lustakis is one of them. Remember that free agency year he had? We're like, they didn't have any offers except for the Brewers. And then Logan Morrison almost hit 40, and he got one year six from the twins. I hope he doesn't fall into that category.
Starting point is 00:25:32 I want this guy to sign. He's a great teammate, a great guy, a great veteran to have on your team. You know he's going to play defense. It's interesting. Yeah. It's interesting. Team we've talked about all year, the Milwaukee Brewers, our Milwaukee Brewers. They clinch the NL Central, which, again, for how much we do talk about the brewers,
Starting point is 00:25:49 you almost do need to take another step back and be like, what? Like, this Cubs team, if I told Cubs fans before the season, PCA is going to win MVP in a runaway, I'd like to think they'd be like, okay, so we won the division? Was it close? It was not close. Mizorowski, five clean. of course, Luis Lara. Is he going to be second in the MVP in the NL?
Starting point is 00:26:16 Is it Mizorowski? Interesting. Shohei's got to still be involved, right? Shoah's two, Pete's one, and then... I've got... Okay. I've got an interesting... I've got an interesting one for you
Starting point is 00:26:33 that this is a bigger baseball topic. If there was only one... If there was only one Si Young Award... Miserowski or Schlitler. I know you'd want to look at the numbers. I should have prepped you a little better on that. You're putting me on the spot here right now. I got to know like innings, I think, matters there.
Starting point is 00:26:54 And I get, they have to. So the counting, a lot of the stats are very similar. Schlitler has them in innings. It's a very interesting. I guess there is a little bit of Yankee coming out, and I'll let people know that, that, you know, Mizorowski has been like the pitching story of baseball this year. Schlittler's toe to toe with him, if not, has a good argument for the not.
Starting point is 00:27:17 Dalton's coming over with the side-by-side stats. He's looking at them. Both interesting-looking guys in their own way. I mean, God, they're identical, essentially, yeah. And I guess that's what I'm saying. I mean, that's actually, I think, goes very well for Schlitler. If you say those stats are basically identical, I think Mizzerowski has them a little bit K percentage, but like, you know, very,
Starting point is 00:27:42 not, I mean, not by so much. The innings matter. I just, I don't think we live in this world anymore. It used to be like New York media, like all that stuff. Mizorowski's been talked a lot more than Schlittler this year because he throws the ball crazy. I haven't. I feel like outside of the New York media, Schlittler has knock out in the praise that he's deserved, probably through me as well.
Starting point is 00:28:07 I just, it's a big deal. I'm one of the leading voices of baseball. I should probably be on that. You really are. Yeah, I know. You really are. And that's pretty cool, man. What if I told 2016 Trevor Plouf, a little over a decade,
Starting point is 00:28:21 you're going to be one of the leading medium men in baseball. I would say, you know, I'm probably going to hit 40 next year. So when I'm done, I'm going to be on a fucking beach. I didn't. When I retire, I'm not watching one more inning of baseball. I guess in other Brewer's news, the news. The news is Kyle Harrison has been getting destroyed. And the fun story of like, look, what the Brewers do, he's out of steam.
Starting point is 00:28:47 He's like, he's out. It's interesting because, you know, it was the talk of the town. Oh, Brewers did it again. They bring this guy over. They move him to the first base side. Look what his fastball is doing. In this game, you go to a couple of the highlights for the Pirates, which is Connor Griffin, smacks went out in line on a fastball up and in.
Starting point is 00:29:06 Somebody else got him too. I don't know if it was O'Neill Cruz. another fastball top of the zone. It's the shape just isn't there. I think the velocity's okay, but he's lost that top of the zone dominance there. And you see a couple of these swings. You're like, dang, man.
Starting point is 00:29:21 Like it does it to the naked eye. It doesn't look too much different. But it is. I mean, the barrel's getting there when it wasn't before. Logan Harrison has become the number two. Over is, like, how,
Starting point is 00:29:35 how bad it's got for Kyle Harrison? I did combine statements. His last four outings, a 21 ERA, 21 earn runs and nine innings. So Logan Henderson has now become the number two. His Zach Gowan streak just ends, which is 22 straight starts. Yeah, of letting three runs or fewer. So one short of Zach Allen's M.L.B. record. Again, I don't think there's concern there.
Starting point is 00:30:02 But, yeah, how Milwaukee is going to pitch their way through the playoffs? You know, we've talked about San Diego basically looking for one starter. We've talked about how other teams are going to navigate. Milwaukee's formula is going to be a little interesting. And is it Dustin May, Bobby Gasser, some of these guys. And obviously they love a lot of bullpen options. It's going to be those guys at the top of the zone, Izorowski and Logan Henderson,
Starting point is 00:30:26 and then they're going to figure it out for games three, games four, whether that is some sort of piggyback between those guys. And today's episode is sponsored by Seat Geek covering baseball every day means it's time, people. The MLB playoffs are right around the corner. The NFL is here, NBA is sneaking up. Starting point is 00:31:32 Sure. Giants and Cardinals play baseball. Awesome. The Orioles and the Mets played. And I'll be honest, there's a little bit of salt in this because it's just a lot of... It's too many buzzwords for me to try to be neutral between the Mets, between Pete Alonzo,
Starting point is 00:31:48 him coming back. I guess I don't get the... I don't get to listen to baseball today every day, or you and Chris Rose hit baseball's hot topics. I guess give me your quick hitters on where do you stand about... Pete Alonzo hits his 300th home run. run in the ninth inning to tie the game. Mets fans go nuts for him. They give him a curtain call.
Starting point is 00:32:09 There's a lot of scenarios there. Sean Mnaya comes out after the game. He's just like, I can't really believe it. He wasn't being hostile. He was just kind of with a smile on his face. Like, what the hell are the Mets? I guess give me your thoughts on it. I mean, he's right. Like, that's very interesting. And I don't know what you say if you're on the team. But I also don't fault Mets fans at all because this was their guy, man. We talked. It's about a lot of off season. And you did it once to him. You gave him a one-year deal.
Starting point is 00:32:39 He comes back. And then you don't really go after him. No. You know, you change the entire roster. They got rid of who else, Nimmo. They get rid of McNeil. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:50 So, like, you're bringing in a whole new type of group. Now, you got Lindor and you got Soto and those guys are going to be there forever. But you bring him Bichet and everything's different. This guy should have been a Met for life. Like he should have been. So their franchise career home run later. He loved the city.
Starting point is 00:33:07 He handled the media low. He loved being a Met. He loved being a met. That's the whole point. That to me is a massive misstep. When you have a guy that continues to perform, and it's kind of like a lock. Like, yeah, look, man, like I get, you know,
Starting point is 00:33:21 a lot of people will call him a one-trick pony. I think I told Chris Roses. He does the best trick. Like, hit hoars, it produces. He does more than the one trick. No, but if you're, you're just going baseball wise. Like, this guy's a hitter, right?
Starting point is 00:33:37 And that's the trick I'm talking about. He's not just a home run. Like, he's a hitter. I throw a comma in there. Like, he plays defense. Like, it's not like you're praying, oh my God, don't hit it to him. I'm, I'm,
Starting point is 00:33:48 but that matters. I'm not calling him that. I'm saying that was the zeitgeist. Yeah. Alonzo, one trick pony, not going to age well, whatever it is. That's just ridiculous, man. There's not, it's,
Starting point is 00:34:01 him and Kyle Schwerber aren't that different. No. And one guy gets treated like, you know, I love both of them. One guy gets treated on a completely different level than Peter Lund. And remember, Kyle Schwerber, they couldn't let him go. Philly said we can't let this guy go. So. Pete Alonzo, he leads the American League in games played like he's done the past two years.
Starting point is 00:34:29 And he leads and runs bad at him. Which is a stat I still like sometimes. Me too. Joey Votto will... Yeah. Says the same thing. Love you, love you, Joe. On the fans?
Starting point is 00:34:39 Yeah. Don't care that they did it. I mean, that's their guy. And I think it was more... It's more of a shots fired thing, right? Yeah. Shots fired at the front office. And it's like, we're paying homage to our guy
Starting point is 00:34:52 who showed us so much love after the game. Yeah. He gets the ball, signs the jerseys, brings the guys out beers. Like, talk about just like feel. they're cheering their guy on and also sending a message to the front office and I guess the ownership that like, hey,
Starting point is 00:35:08 you mess this one up. The season's gone awry. It's terrible. And look, if you're in New York, that's part of it, right? Yeah. I, on Wake and Jake, I tried, I was looking for an episode to do
Starting point is 00:35:21 and I was like, you know, let me do, see if it can be a recurring thing. You know, baseball thing. Fairfowl. And I went over to this and I kind of didn't know because it was just confirmed. It's like, because the Mets fans that were there, I still think wanted the Mets to win the game. Like, they weren't rooting against Sanga.
Starting point is 00:35:38 They're just rooting for Pete. And the fact, it's his 300th Homer, which here's the stat that I'm now going to use every time. Because the one that's always stuck with me, Pete's first free agency, they were like, again, I don't know if there's the Mets. I don't know if this was, who said this, but someone said they don't think his body's going to age well. Here's my new fun fact. The only players to hit more home runs than Alonzo over their first eight Major League Baseball seasons, Ralph Kiner and Albert Pujols.
Starting point is 00:36:11 Okay. Here's a thing, too. Okay. Can I tell you about bodies? Yeah. Want to talk about bodies? Hell yeah. Guys can work out.
Starting point is 00:36:22 Stay in shape, bro. What are we doing? Like for so long, we're like, this guy's just going to be a fat slot. And it's like, what are we talking about here? And I don't like some of the words you just said for what I was about to bring up. But who is, when I threw my pitch to start today's episode, what hitter were you? Move on.
Starting point is 00:36:42 I'll tell you what. That guy could hit the ball. That guy could hit the ball a ton. MVP? Whoops. I'm just saying, man, I'm kind of out on like, this guy's not going to, his body's not going to hold up. It's like, dude, if he wants it to hold up. and he's motivated the way Pete Alonzo is, it will.
Starting point is 00:37:04 That's, I guess here's my thing, because we're still not doctors. The Correa stuff was full-blown weird, and it's kind of- That's an injury. I know, talk about this guy being like a bigger fella. What are we doing? 100% of green.
Starting point is 00:37:16 100% of, yes, yes. What if he age, it's just like Jim Tomey. He played every day. And we start calling him freaking Mr. Incredible. Maybe Jim Tomei should be the comp for him. Some of Jim Tomey seasons. I have a steak burrito ad in front of me right now, I am starving.
Starting point is 00:37:34 Let's talk some American League baseball. Kind of the series of the season in the American League, at least for the Central. The Guardians and the White Sox faced off, and the White Sox saved their season in that first game. Tristan Peters, 18 pitch at bat, leads to a six-run inning to defeat the Guardians and Gavin Williams.
Starting point is 00:38:05 They lose the next two. games. Playoff, Rokio is here. He's never left. Travis Bazzana and Joe Adel. God, he looks good in that year eight. And then the deciding game, of course Tommy Fam hit a three-run Homer, because it's September for the White Sox, if you were guessing which team. And Cleveland comes back, little Petey Halpert, Parker Besick. They get the win. They win the series. Listen to where they are in the standings. The Yanks took two out of three from the twins. Um, great twins brought broadcast. That's what I'll say about that. Aaron Judge Homers, that's fantastic.
Starting point is 00:38:42 He leaves the last game with injury. We're scared. We're scared. Twins win that last one in 13. Both teams tried to lose it. Speaking of both teams trying to lose it, Tigers Blue Jays. And the Tigers win the first one. Jose Soriano, perfect game watch. Then it all falls apart in the sixth inning.
Starting point is 00:39:01 The Tigers win that game. They win them. They win the next one, 10 to 1, after a big. fourth inning, Max Clark, Riley Green. Sure, all the guys we thought. Blue Jays, they salvage the set. They're still involved, but it's getting late in the six. Red Sox and Rangers, uh, they've played two games as we record this, and the Rangers have won both games. Alias Diaz and Corey Seeger, yeah, the two anchors of the team, strength up the middle, and then the Rangers win four straight. They overcome Wilson Contreras's early Homer.
Starting point is 00:39:35 Wyatt Lankford gets involved Evaldi out of the bullpen? I can't with Texas. They're playing one more tonight as we record this. Same with Houston and Kansas City. They've split the first two. Jeremy Panias, big night at the office,
Starting point is 00:39:51 two home runs, but the Royals split it. I don't know what's going to happen. Maybe by the time you listen, you do know. The Ray's sweep the A's, and that's obvious. Junior Caminero decided he wanted to hit another walk-off homer, so he did that. Midnight Johnny DeLuca and Chandler Simpson, a couple hits and ribs in that second game,
Starting point is 00:40:11 and then they blow it open late in that third game. They are sick puppies in a series that somehow doesn't matter. The Mariners and the Angels played. Cal Raleigh Homer, Josh Lowe did too. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter. Both teams are out. That's what happened in the American League. So good, so good.
Starting point is 00:40:35 Did you say Toronto? It's getting late early? It's getting late. I don't know. Nobody in front of them wants it. It's true. All right. Congratulations.
Starting point is 00:40:45 You're the best. How about this? Let's talk about the American League East, which is largely considered what? The best division in baseball. 63 and 59 for the Tampa Bay raise. They're five games above your yanks. Reminder, you guys got a four games set coming up.
Starting point is 00:40:59 That'll be awesome. Your yanks are 88 and 64. The Red Sox 82 and 70. The Blue J is 76 and 77, Baltimore, 75 and 78. The Guardians have sole possession of the American League Central after taking that series. 78 and 75, they're a half game above those white socks who are 77 and 75.
Starting point is 00:41:18 The Tigers are jump my twins. My goodness. 72 and 80 for them. 71 and 81 for my guys. 67 and 85 for the Kansas City Royals. Out west, it's a mess. It's a mess right now. I have it on my sheet.
Starting point is 00:41:33 Both tied, 76, 76, 76, 76, with the caveat that the Rangers are playing tonight. Correct. Gotcha. They're both playing tonight. Astros have the tiebreaker. Astros do have the tiebreaker, so they cannot finish it tied. Or the Astros win.
Starting point is 00:41:50 Okay. So that's some standings that will be updated later today. 71 and 82 for the Mariners. Why are we even talking about the rest of these teams? 61 and 92 for the A's. 58 and 94 for the Angel. But Stan Cronkies is coming in hot guys. In the wild.
Starting point is 00:42:06 card. This is why I say that Blue Jays aren't done at all. Right now, the Yankees, number one spot. There's six games above the Red Sox, so it seems like that's kind of locked up. Yeah. I had some fan fiction about the Red Sox trying to lose and get to the third seat and play the AL Central, or the AOS, excuse me, or the, who knows what's going to happen. Anyways, right now, it's the White Sox who have the last wild card spot. 77 and 75. They're a game up on. The Rangers. The Blue Jays, only one and a half games back of them, dude. And, like, the White Sox aren't playing great.
Starting point is 00:42:42 No. Go check out what, you know, Murakami and the Colson's, what they're doing. The Montgomery's, excuse me. Colons. The Monomerys. The Mongemary's. The Orioles, still right in it. Two and a half back for them.
Starting point is 00:42:54 And they have some interesting schedule watch. I was checking it out earlier. That's as far as I'm going to go. That's it. Those are the standings. So I guess right now, it would be Yankee hosting Red Sox, and it would be the. Astros hosting the White So Trev, let me ask you a riddle.
Starting point is 00:43:11 Who in the AL would have the two buys? Excuse me? Who would have the buys in the American League playoffs? It would be, of course, the guard dogs and the Tampa Bay race. That's ridiculous. And so the way the bracket works out, like after you guys play each other, you're going to have to play the race, right?
Starting point is 00:43:35 Yeah. Houston. Like there is a clear path. Houston, the Guardians, the White Sox may be, dude, no, we can't, we can't do this. We can't do that. Your side of the bracket is crazy. Crazy. And it's like locked. And the other side. It's locked. The only thing that can really change is the Yankees catching the race. They play four games. Yankee fans don't even believe in it anymore. Nobody does. But even if it change, it's still that bracket that those three ALEs teams are going to face off in the first week of the playoffs,
Starting point is 00:44:10 and that's it. Guardians might sleepwalk to the ALCS, and then good luck, Cade Smith coming to shove it. Brian Rokey, ending your fucking season. Give me a Guard Dogs, Milwaukee Brewers World Series,
Starting point is 00:44:29 and watch the CBA get signed the next night. You know what? Let's not even, let's just run it. Let's just run it. Um, everything can still happen in the American League. Everything can. The Texas Rangers can win the West and get the buy. They could not make the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:44:47 Same with the guards. Same with the White Sox. Same with Houston. That that part of the bracket is wide open. The other one is kind of set. Can I give you my Baltimore take? And I think I had the right team. Okay.
Starting point is 00:44:59 Milwaukee is who they're playing next. Right. That's tough. Tough. Clinched. They've clinched. Toronto, St. in it, but you need to beat Toronto.
Starting point is 00:45:08 So that's a team in front of you, right? Right. And then by the last series of the year where they play your Yanks, you guys are going to be locked in a position. There's no Aaron Judge right now. So I don't, I don't know, man. Is Baltimore going to get the, hey, we're already clinched versions of these teams. Go take care of business against Toronto and sneak in there?
Starting point is 00:45:32 My baby birds grown up. Pete Alonso laughing his way to the playoffs. I've got another game. The worst record of a playoff team in the AL this year will be. Ooh, you're saying 500 or less? That's what I'm asking. It could be the West winner. It could be the last wild card.
Starting point is 00:45:55 Our good friend, Britt Jorali, put an Instagram out saying she will die on the hill that a team under 500 should not make the playoffs. I don't know what that means. if something like this happens. Just send the diamondbacks to the AL. They just go to the Yale. I don't hate it. I don't hate it.
Starting point is 00:46:13 No team has ever been under 500. Now, how long is this six teams per season per league have been going on since 2023? Okay. So third year in, we might get a 500 or less team. It's, I love it, by the way. I like it. Let's see what happens. Podgers were 82 and 80 in 2005.
Starting point is 00:46:36 They won the NL West with them. The hell was happening in 2005? Dodgers? I was in Beloit, Wisconsin. Oh. I went to Madison one night. How was your Beloit snapper? With a day off.
Starting point is 00:46:48 Let me tell you. One of the best nights of my life. Madtown. Yeah. Okay. Let's do some Mail Central because it was the White Sox Cleveland Guardian series. We've been eyeing for a while.
Starting point is 00:46:58 And man, I went second telly. It's an iPad. And it's a bad iPad. I need a new one. Why? It's just a screen with some airmen. No, dude. It was cutting out.
Starting point is 00:47:11 It was bad. I can do better. I was so happy for the White Sox and that Tristan Peters 18 pitch a bat in the big inning. And they needed one game to get the tie breaker. So again, everyone needs to now put that in the back of their head. So if Cleveland and Chicago tie, Cleveland would get the division, which would also give them a buy right now in the postseason. It's insane.
Starting point is 00:47:32 But the guard dogs win the next two games. The second one in kind of dramatic fashion. And then the third one a little bit, too, after the Tommy fan elevator conversation that let him be on the team, start on the team, hit a home run on the team. This series had a little bit of everything, Coach.
Starting point is 00:47:49 Brian Rokio had a walk-off. It's his seventh career walk-off hit. He's not known for his bat. He's a glove-first guy, but you know what he likes? Big freaking moments. I just, we were kind of, scoreboard watching this.
Starting point is 00:48:06 I was doing the Twins Yankee series. We were watching it. We knew Tristan Peters had had that 18 pitch of bat. White Sox take that game. Right, all right, that's a hell. That could be like turning the season or finishing the season off strong type thing. And then for the guardians to just do what they do, like get the big hit. You know, have guys come up.
Starting point is 00:48:28 So it's, it's Rokio. And then it's Petey freaking help. And he's got Jolly Olive tweeting about him. It's shame, shame on me, fool me, whatever that's saying is. They do it every year. They do it every year. They did it last year. They did it last year.
Starting point is 00:48:47 And here we are again talking about the Guardians, possibly having a buy in the both season. It's nuts. Rokio gets Grant Taylor for the second time this season in a walk-off. So that's crazy. And yeah, Guardians strength of schedule, three-game series against the A's Red Sox. and Royals, White Sox, three non-contenders, tigers, royals, and Rockies.
Starting point is 00:49:11 So we'll let it play out. And if you don't know, if you haven't heard it, if you're a baseball fan this deep, maybe you have, if you haven't. Tommy Fam, who's been a running popular guy on this program, I used to DM Trev a lot of his Insta stories because Tommy Fam's Tommy Fam. There's a lot of guns. He shows up every September, is on a contending team, And he contributes.
Starting point is 00:49:38 And this was kind of, if everyone remember, if everyone remembers, I wanted the A, or I wanted the White Sox to add like a Jeff McNeil type, just like a grindy vet, just to be around. It's Tommy Fam. So, yeah, he meets Chris gets maybe by accident in an elevator, probably on purpose. Could have been. Probably lurking around the elevators. Oh, Chris.
Starting point is 00:49:59 Yeah. Oh, I'll go up. Hold the door. Same floor. That's weird. So, story goes, that he was going to be activated this weekend at some point. But instead, yeah, he goes into Gets and says, hey, like, I don't know what he said.
Starting point is 00:50:15 Do you think Gets was like, this is serendipitous and I have to bring him on now? Or do you think he was scared? My fan fiction is Tommy Fam is like, let me show you. And he just, like, picks him up. He's like, I'm feeling good. Picks him up. Do you think he just showed some of his Instagram stories? He goes, don't you want to, don't you want to, you know, get me on the roster now?
Starting point is 00:50:34 No, no, Chris, I'm good. I don't think you're hearing. Were they ever teammates? I don't know. Has Tommy Fan been playing that long? Wow. Now, if that's in your bag, Trev. I don't know if they were.
Starting point is 00:50:47 I mean, Gets played the Biggies for a long time. Chris gets Royals 10 to 2014 to 2013. I think. Yeah, no, they missed. Okay. Tommy Fam, 38 years old. Three run Homer in one of the biggest series of the year. J-Ram with a couple games.
Starting point is 00:51:06 Let's see what happens there. Cade Smith, 37 saves and 42 opportunities. Again, this is a team that lost the guy who was considered the best closer in baseball due to gambling. People forget about that one. Do you like America? I do. Do you know when America's birthday is? July 4th.
Starting point is 00:51:24 That's the last time the Guardians were in sole possession in the first place. Murakami and Montgomery. Yeah. The stat is of people with 50 more plate appearances, it's Montgomery. it's Montgomery, Colson, Braden, and Murakami have like the worst OPSs. That's, that'll do it.
Starting point is 00:51:44 That'll do it. Yankees played the twins, Treve, you had a front row seat. Tell me about it. Okay, look, you want to be serious about it? The twins, I mean, the twins are... No, dude. Fucking do a five-minute stand-up routine.
Starting point is 00:51:59 I think I can. It looks like Aaron Judge forgot his gavel. Uh, you know, You were, like, mad about celebrations. We talked about this. I don't know why. I think they did a nice job.
Starting point is 00:52:11 I talked to the visiting clubhouse guys. I wasn't mad. Okay. That's a Dan Rourke. We've been telling Dan Rourke, he's young. Like, let the players celebrate. Yeah. What are you?
Starting point is 00:52:21 I don't know, man. Look, Max Fried is an absolute filth monster. He got one point, Cody Clemens hit a triple with nobody out. And then that's when Max Fried, it looked like he started the try. Yeah. And he struck two out of three people.
Starting point is 00:52:36 out. Curr ball is absolutely filthy. They kept stealing bags. That's, I guess that's us. That's us, but they kept stealing bags against us, and I was, I was, I was not happy. Trev, you have a voice on that team. Joe Girardi is, like,
Starting point is 00:52:54 so baseball addicted. Sometimes it's, like, tough to listen to on the broadcast, like, all the respect in the world of Joe Garry. We had, we had a big talk, you know. But, like, he's so lost in baseball. Sometimes you're listening to the broadcast and you're like, Joe, what are you talking about? right now. But he's Joe Girardi. In a big moment, some of the stuff he sees, you're like, dude, that's sick.
Starting point is 00:53:13 He was about to throw up at the twins controlling base running. That was shocking. Minter was like the biggest one. I mean, Bailey Ober's kind of slow to the plate, but Minter just kind of wasn't paying attention. Vopi got him twice. I think they double stole twice. Or maybe once the guy on first didn't go. But it was just easy for them.
Starting point is 00:53:35 I actually went to Taylor Rogers. We're getting deep cut, guys. Don't worry about it. Taylor Rogers gets in the game. And he finally does it. He's just staring at Volpe until it gets to one and then throws the pitch. I went out to the next day.
Starting point is 00:53:50 I go, hey, man, let me tell you something. Like, that was awesome how you, like, held him on. He goes, you know what? He goes, I really appreciate you coming and saying that to me because, like, I think about that stuff. And you know what? Like, some relievers don't. We know that.
Starting point is 00:54:04 Yeah. And Minter's a guy, dude. Night Squad. Yeah. Yeah. Night shift. Night squad? You said night squad.
Starting point is 00:54:12 Night shift. Yeah. Sorry. My bad, dude. I'm a 2021 brave. It was tough. Anyways, take away Max Reed. Awesome.
Starting point is 00:54:21 Like, your lineup's okay, dude. Like, without judge. Yeah. And I mentioned that, like, I don't know how that's feeling for him. And, like, he wasn't looking good, dude. Yeah. The only hit he had was when he had the pitches of AJ Minter, I think Judge is amazing.
Starting point is 00:54:35 I think he could show up and just get it all of a sudden, no problem. He wasn't really showing that. Like the outer bottom, outside part of the plate, which is tough for everybody. Yeah. It was completely open to him. Here's what I'd say. A, he leaves his series with supposedly a lower leg thing that's mysterious.
Starting point is 00:54:50 It could be end of season. It could be he's starting tomorrow night. I don't know. Judge has shown over time. It takes a little bit for the computer to computer. Sure. Which it does for a lot of hitters. but like judge especially that was some of the playoff stuff like when the Yankees would have a layoff
Starting point is 00:55:08 I don't he's not like the timing is in there you watch you watch him right now like I was watching his at bats and he's just not like he's it feels off it doesn't he doesn't have like his cadence down so he's not picking up his foot at the right time or he's still like thinking about when to do that instead of just doing it and again it's it's just rust is what it is but now he's going to be going in possibly to a three-game set against the Red Sox, who we talked about might match up lefty-lefty, so it's going to be him doing the, you know, pretty much being the center of the offense.
Starting point is 00:55:44 I mean, he always is that, but even more so against these lefties and what you guys have to do for your lineup, and he's going to be coming in cold. Yes. Without the timing. So to me, I am, look, I want you guys to win. It's good for our company,
Starting point is 00:55:57 but that's, it's alarming to me. I guess I'd like to give you a vote of non-confidence. Like every time I see Chris Rose, Chris Rose, in a genuine way, like not poking or jabbing, he's like, if the Yanks don't win the AOL this year. And Yankee fans don't feel that way. Like you don't think you're the best. I think your pitching is fantastic. It's arguably the best Yankees pitching ever.
Starting point is 00:56:26 Your pitching's fantastic. Will Warren. I know you're going to. You guys are going to, like, put him in the fucking bullpen. Yeah. His ball moves. He's like, has Nolan McLeanitis where his ball moves too much. Oh.
Starting point is 00:56:37 Like in that. So anyways. Okay. This is, yeah, people don't care. They care about Tigers' blue Jays. Um, no, they don't care about that either. Although the Blue Jays, they're still around it. Max Scher has quotes in, we got to go one and oh 10 times.
Starting point is 00:56:51 Um, and if they do, if they do, they're one of, they're the fourth best team in the AL. Um, but they lost the first two games before that. The wild card number hit four and a half at one point. I might have had to read it. It's over. It's over. It's over. I'm not doing it. Okamoto homered again. And I just... Stud. I just... Yeah. All right.
Starting point is 00:57:18 The Texas Rangers have to be talked about. Again, we wish we knew what was going to happen in the next three and a half hours before we get this episode out. but the Rangers have won four in a row, and like we did with that whole ale hodgepodge, they could have a buy, or they could not be in the playoffs. I guess the Evaldi thing would be interesting to people if you're not tracking the Rangers. He comes out of the pen following gore,
Starting point is 00:57:45 four innings, four innings, right? Yeah, I still don't know what to do with that. I really don't. You know, the Rangers have been in enigma to me all season long. It's just kind of been mediocre, but you have possibly elite starting pitching in a short series with a guy that's filthy at the back end of your bullpen and Corey Seeger in the middle of your lineup.
Starting point is 00:58:06 Like, what's not to like about that? Jacob Lats. Yeah. Some of his numbers are freaky, deaky Dutch. Yeah, I'd like to... So what does it go? Does it go DeGrom if we're lining in it. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:58:23 It goes de Grom and then do you go like Gore Eivaldi's second game? So right. Is Eivaldi going to be built up enough to do that? I mean, he probably is, right? Fan graphs that is normally pretty good at this, sometimes they're also guessing. But it says against Toronto, they're supposed to go Kumar Rocker, Cal Quantrell, who's been tremendous. That's who I forgot. That's what I forgot.
Starting point is 00:58:48 I'm talking about playoff rotation. I don't care about it now. Well, that's, they have Avaldi making his next start. So the fact that he threw four innings. So, okay, yeah, that's what I'm saying. So it's going to go DeGrom and then the next three up, maybe we get jumbled up depending on this. DeGrom Gorovaldi, man, that, if you want, I mean,
Starting point is 00:59:06 they kind of sneaky love there. Robert Garcia's back, Jacob Junis, although that is a classic example. I said it a couple weeks ago, but like the one time I saw Jacob Junis, it's when he got rocked against the Mariners. It was literally six pitches, three runs, and it's like, oh, shit. Jacob Junis is like, who's the closer for the Reds right now?
Starting point is 00:59:27 Emilio Pagan? Like saying, I don't know. I feel like they're going to be around for a long time. And they have been around for a long time. They're just those guys. No, what I always love. I don't know if there's ever going to be a show that would be able to encompass this properly. The vibes in the bullpen.
Starting point is 00:59:41 Right now in that Texas Rangers bullpen, you got Jacob Lats out here having a breakout amazing season. Awesome. Keep going. I'll jump down to Trevor Williams. Okay. A talking baseball sensation is out there twirling it. Wow. Jordan Montgomery is out there.
Starting point is 01:00:00 Watch him bang some curve balls and become a postseason star again. Give me the double S guy. What do you want? Chase Silseth? Yeah. I can't say his last name. Okay. So that was talking bullpen.
Starting point is 01:00:12 Astros, like we said, they've split two games. We don't know what happens in their next one. But it could decide the whole American League playoffs when it does. Jeremy Pena goes off in that first. First game, like I said, Hunter Brown. And then I think we should give a little Tampa love. Oh, right now, Houston, up two to one through four innings. Okay.
Starting point is 01:00:34 That's now you know exactly when we're recording this. And Texas is just about to start. This is a big one for us, people. We finally have launched our all-new apparel brand heydays. Original artwork you won't find anywhere else. officially licensed MLB designs and higher quality elevated materials, prints that hold up after wash, no cracking or fading. This isn't just stuff you wear at the ballpark.
Starting point is 01:00:59 This is designed to wear any time, anywhere. Right now we have our big Apple collection, Yankees and Mets. We've got a clinch collection dropping for select teams when they are going to the playoffs. And there's going to be more teams and everything coming. We've put so much time and work into this. We've done it right. We've reached out to like experts because we didn't know what we're doing, but they did.
Starting point is 01:01:18 and we've landed in an awesome spot. So go check it out. It's Haydays, H-E-D-A-Z-E-E-D-A-Z-C-E-D-C-C-N-O-N-C-N-O-N-W. We're making stuff in limited runs because it's really, like, good materials and stuff, so we're just buying the quantities and hoping you guys get it. So if you do love something,
Starting point is 01:01:34 do not wait on it, go to Haydays.com. Give me some more, Reyes, love, because I know it's that time of year where we're trying to skip stuff. Hey, I mean, this is taking our business. Yeah. He is coming to town. This is what you're supposed to do.
Starting point is 01:01:48 This is the Trevor Ploof Bowl right here. The twins did not take care of business. That was the end of their season. Rays are doing it. Junior Caminer, if you haven't seen his walk off home or trot, it's amazing. 40.65 seconds. It's the longest since being tracked in 2015. It's so good.
Starting point is 01:02:05 Let me just watch it. It's not off to a hot start. He hasn't even started the trot. He's currently still holding the bat. He's given three chest bumps. I was thinking, like, can people touch him? and then I realized that he gives a high-file. You can give a high-five to the first base coach
Starting point is 01:02:22 or freaking play rock-paper scissors if you want. Yeah, I think there are rules. I'm glad we don't care because imagine. But, yeah, that's two walk-off homers in four days. Chandler Simpson's chasing the A.L. batting title? Yeah, and two guys right here are holding Yordon Alvarez hostage for the A.L. Triple Crown. You got Caminero doing it and Chandler Simpson
Starting point is 01:02:49 And who the hell is going to win the AL MVP award? I have no idea. Is it going to be Bobby Witt with an 810 OPS? No. I think it might be. It's your honor, Camerero. There is, the Vegas odds do not have Caminero in a pretty place. If we don't, if we,
Starting point is 01:03:05 I might put 10 on Camerro just because what if Houston misses the dance And Camerero has 48 homers? Like, coach, I think Cam Schlettler. Here we go. Like if... Here we go. Okay. Do we value war or not?
Starting point is 01:03:22 I'm just curious. I think we do now. Like, right? Like, that's a pretty easy statement. It is valued war. It is valued. Now, it's valued even like way more than it used to be. And we didn't even have it, I guess.
Starting point is 01:03:33 We proactively put war in for people. Don't ask me how they did all that. Don't ask me. Don't go back to 1995, Mo Vaughn and Albert Bell. Go look at Luke Appling seasons. It's insane. It's insane. insane. Ben Zobrist for like a nine war season's also crazy.
Starting point is 01:03:49 How do we know Luke Appling had a 7-3 war in 43? I don't know. Right now, if you go, it's Bobby Witt, it's Yordaun, it's Cam, and like you got one guy who's doing it all playing every day. It's Bobby Witt. Caminero. The war's not even close. Schlittler has more war, but pitcher war has always felt different.
Starting point is 01:04:14 It's so strange. It's going to be the weirdest award season, I think, for the AL. Oh, I know. You're on a big fan fiction kick. I think seeing me in person has you a little aged up. Yeah, okay. Cam Schlitler, oh, I was going to have him lose the Cy Young and win MVP, but he's going to win the Cy Young.
Starting point is 01:04:32 But it's crazy, man. Like if C's had stayed with him and somehow, I don't know. I'm telling you right, and you're going to read it for you just real quick for context. Right now. Why not? I have F4. Oh. B-Wor?
Starting point is 01:04:44 Okay. F-4 is Bobby Witt at 6. It's Yordon at 6. It's Cam Schlittler at 5-9. It's Dylan C. At 5-6. It's Kevin McGonagal at 5-0. And then it's Jr. Camineiro.
Starting point is 01:04:57 I agree. Like, if I'm looking at this season and you're looking at the raise and we're doing the value, like, he surely needs to be in the discussion. Bobby Witt and his career low, like, OPS? That would be such. This is a, like, okay.
Starting point is 01:05:13 Hey, I still think playing in games that matter matters. Agreed, agreed. So they haven't. this is going to go down as like a bad year for Bobby Witt. And he's put up 6'5. I'm not saying I think it's a bad year. I'm saying Bobby Witt standards, this is not a good year. What if he wins the MVP?
Starting point is 01:05:29 Go look at what he did a couple years ago when it was nine. Yeah. Tampa. I am fired up right now. I think I need a glass of wine or something. 16th sweep of the season. It's the most sweeps in a single season by any team since the Dodgers in 22. most sweeps by an AL club since the 2019 Astros.
Starting point is 01:05:51 So, it's a dominant season. McGonigal has the highest B-war amongst AL players. Hey, I don't refer to them as this. Analytically driven people, what are we going to do? I'm being serious. What are we going to do? That, man, that felt like, that felt like when you have a real situation in your life,
Starting point is 01:06:18 and it's like, hey, I know we've already. said everything, what are we gonna do? Is that my new what is you doing, baby? If I had an MVP vote, okay. I would go I would need to see more.
Starting point is 01:06:40 Whoever, I'll say this, whoever has the next best 10 days, Yordaun or Camero. Yoron has the best offensive stats, right? The only thing he's not leading in his home runs. OPS he's leading in. What about runs driven in? No, I'm saying. Of the two?
Starting point is 01:06:55 Of the two. I'd have to get in there. It's close. It's close. Two more. It's just... Whoever has the best 10 days for me. So that's your two guys.
Starting point is 01:07:09 Schlittler's out. Bobby Witts out? Witts out. Slutler's out. Vegas odds? I can get there. A.L. MVP. We're having a good time right now.
Starting point is 01:07:19 Look at us. There's a reservation. It's knocking at... We're not. Not going. I'm starving. That's all right. H. L.
Starting point is 01:07:26 Yordon is like the, I guess here's the thing. Yordon is like the heavy favorite. Like minus 2,000 and up. No. Yes, dude. And Caminero, you could make a nice piece of coin on if that guy went, which I. That's what I'm saying. But the analytically driven people are not going to vote for him.
Starting point is 01:07:51 If Houston misses the day. dance. I think it gets very interesting. People still care about that. Gosh, this could, this could, this could, like, this could heal like old wounds for people. Luis heel. Let's do the second.
Starting point is 01:08:08 Quarter of the show. Standout performance. Hit it, Rob. It's time for Standout performances. Stand out performances. Stand out performances. This guy stood out.
Starting point is 01:08:23 out for Trev. Say what? Uh-uh. Give me a Trev. I was going to go Ryan Johnson, but I'm not doing it. He throws like Jake. It's hilarious. Nice start for him.
Starting point is 01:08:34 Angels pitchers, are they still doing it? Haven't watched. They're still doing it. Just they put radar guns back in the bullpen. And we're back. Hey, wait, what did Mike Rizzo put in the bullpens of the Nationals? I don't care how hard you throw a ball for. And they just set the single game record for walks.
Starting point is 01:08:54 Or most this season, I think it was. They had 13 walks. Nat's pitching staff. Yeah, I think Mark Briseau's like... Well, he's out. I know, but do you think he's like... And by the way, I heard he was the leading candidate for the A's job. Yeah, he got an interview.
Starting point is 01:09:07 I saw that. Which... I thought that was fun. I don't get help. I'm not doing Ryan Johnson. Congratulations. He went six things pitch with one and run seven kids. I'm going to go Alex Bregman.
Starting point is 01:09:16 Okay. For the oldies. We could have went Pete Kromchon, but I feel like we just give him every single... He's probably going to be on Fuego. Braggie goes a single shy of the cycle goes three for four with a double A triple a homer four runs driven in And he had some funny quotes
Starting point is 01:09:32 I'm gonna get him up I had him yeah I had He's talking about PCA goes PCA wakes up on cycle watch He knew once he got that triple It could be for him because he's slow He said I try to hit a single
Starting point is 01:09:46 As opposed to trying to do what I was doing It's stupid I should just kept trying to hit a homer I don't know how many chances I'll have at a cycle Because that triple's hard when you're this slow. I like it. I don't know. He runs funny.
Starting point is 01:09:57 Choppy legs. Choppy steps. As another guy that runs funny. I, you know, I felt like a little bit of me and him right here. Send the text. Hey,
Starting point is 01:10:07 you run funny like me, bro. Big October coming up. Another guy. For the cubbies. Another guy. Tell me Pete Alonzo and Alec Bregman. Alex Bregman was my Pete Alonzo. When I was like,
Starting point is 01:10:20 Alex Bregman is going to play until he's 50. years old. Yeah. Because he's just a dog. He's a baseball rat. Yeah. And honestly, you didn't, you weren't able to be loud about Breggie for a little bit
Starting point is 01:10:32 there, at least the first half. And now he's playing out of his mind. What if I told you, Alex Breggman has a 5.2B war this year? I knew. I already knew that. Does that do something for you? It does a lot for me. That's a big season.
Starting point is 01:10:46 Second half, one dot. If you told Cubs fans, PCA would have 44, it basically be a 40-40. got and Alex Braggone's going to have a five B-B war. You'd expect to be in first place, not ten back. One dotted in August, one dotting in September. That's my standout. He stands out, and that's it. I'm going to, well, this has always been a standard on the show.
Starting point is 01:11:09 I've stolen this from you a little bit. We either, like, the rich guys, are we like the top prospects and Ethan Salas for these Padres who are shaking up the whole National League, it's course. fine. Love when baseball players get a little bit of confidence. The kid gets his first triple, which was a ball that could have been, kind of could have been caught, whatever. He gets his first hit on a triple in San Francisco. In game three, he hits his first career homer. He hits his second career homer. The youngest catcher in MLB history with a multi-homer game. That's not who I thought it was, is it? They caught that ball? No. No? No. Okay.
Starting point is 01:11:52 Okay. I thought... That was a Chris Rose moment. What the fuck was that? I thought that was Zach Hample. Oh. Look at this textbook catch right here. That looks...
Starting point is 01:12:01 It's just an athlete. I can't really see the screen, dude. I can't either. I didn't know what you're talking about. Okay. So shout out. He broke Butch Wineger's record of 20 years, 192 days from 76. He's the youngest catcher to Homer since Pudge, Ivan Rodriguez.
Starting point is 01:12:20 That's not bad. Youngest player at any position with a multi-homer game since Vlad Jr. Not bad. In the last 20 years, only Trout Harper-Soto Machado have done it younger. Youngest Padre with the multi-homer game. And he caught a nice Robbie Ray game. So he's 20. He's 20.
Starting point is 01:12:40 I want to, Padres fans. You're in Beloit getting your turtle snapped. Yeah. No, I was in, I was in High-A. Sorry. Excuse me. I was one level above. And possibly even in double A.
Starting point is 01:12:52 So get off of me, bro. At 20? No way. Yes, dude. I don't care. I don't care. Say something about the good baseball. 2007, first part of the season, 20 years old.
Starting point is 01:13:01 Anyway, listen, I want to know for Padres fans what he feels like as a catcher. I didn't get to watch these games. Gotcha. I didn't get to watch these games. So I want to know, like, receiving how that's all going. You know I love an offensive catcher. Supposedly that's what he's supposed to have. It's great.
Starting point is 01:13:16 Love that. Very happy for them. Very happy for the Padres. And no, no, no. I told you, I turned 21 in Beloit, or in that year, New Britain, excuse me. I was in AA. First part.
Starting point is 01:13:28 Thank you. June 15th, my birthday, middle, middle. My standout. Trev, it could have went to Jeremy Payne. I've mentioned his big game a couple times. Christian and Carnacio Strand, just becoming a defensive and offensive stalwart at third for Baltimore. I mentioned Peter Halpin.
Starting point is 01:13:46 Herberto Hernandez. There's a lot of pitchers, but we just don't. have time for that right now. I'm hoping we see some of these guys on Enfuego. Dirt Nasty's on Fuego. That means I'm on fire, baby, like Waco. I could also use some of that right now. I'm running. Oh, no, you can't. Look at me. Look at this energy that I have. It's probably because I drank a lot of D.C's and we have some stuff to film, don't we? Okay. For the series, you mentioned this guy, C.E.S. Baby. Christian.
Starting point is 01:14:20 and Carnacios strand former twin. Six for 13. Three doubles, two homers and three runs driven in. He's got 10 homers, 846 OPS, and a 1-2B war in 51 games with the Orioles, and that's after being DFAed from the Reds. So you love to see a little bit of a new team, new guy out of him. Love it for them. Baltimore needs a Jacob Marcy, went five for 10, a double, triple two homers in the series.
Starting point is 01:14:45 Maricio Dubon, one of your favorite players, I'll give you that. 5 for 10, double, triple, one run driven in, stole base as well. Miguel Vargas goes 4 for 11, a homer, 5 runs driven in in the losing effort. Pete Karamstrung should probably be on this list, but I'll just say PCA, PCA, PCA. He's on it. He's on it, yeah, always on it. For the week, Gabby, Moreno. Dalton wants to talk about a little NLMVP for love for Gabby.
Starting point is 01:15:12 Moreno. It goes 11 for 25 during the week, three homers, five runs driven in. his 5-7B war tied for six best in all of baseball this season, only behind fun names. PCA, Terang, McGonagle, Witton Alvarez, Dalton wants him top three, NL MVP voting. I don't know. It's going to be PCA, Shohei, and Mizorowski,
Starting point is 01:15:35 and then maybe Gabby. Okay. Spencer Torkelson, I always want him to do good. I'm always rooting for him. He's like Piedelonzo Light. Yeah? Right? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:15:44 He's at 30 before? It's super. it's super light. One pump. Okay. Seven for 18, two doubles, two homers, six runs driven in. He recorded nine runs driven in. Zero homers in August.
Starting point is 01:15:56 He's got four homers in September already. And he matched his RBI total with nine. Riley Green, also on the Detroit Tigers. What's his deal? Good at baseball. Everyone says he's like one of the best players in baseball, and I never have him on that level. Maybe that's a me thing.
Starting point is 01:16:11 Who's next? Wow. Well, Riley Green went 11 for 25. or eight runs driven in. Dustin Harris. San Diego's auxiliary pieces have Jake in a strangle hold. Nine for 21, a double, two triples, seven runs driven. He scored five runs as well.
Starting point is 01:16:28 And then AJ Ewing of the Mets. The Mets are going to have him, Carson, Ben, and Nolan McLean finishing in like top five rookie of the year votes for the NL. Love that. Two homers, three runs driven in. He goes seven for 21 during the week, and that's who's in Fuego. Tremendous job.
Starting point is 01:16:43 Jacob Marcy and Mariso Dubon back to back. Careful now. That's a story really special. I have amazing news for the four people in this room. For most of the listeners, there are no batters who are struggling. I mean, there are. Don't get me wrong, because this game comes for everyone.
Starting point is 01:17:04 But we're having a warehouse week. We're in the lab. And guess what? Nobody got hurt either. That's so not true. We talked about Snell's injury. But we're not doing batters who are struggling in the aisle. If your favorite player got hurt, I'm sorry.
Starting point is 01:17:18 What we are going to do, especially because she's here. Oh, what? Kelsey Winger, literally the best. If there's one reason to watch Rocky's baseball, it's Kelsey Winger. Okay. I'm just going fan fiction here, guys. And I'm going to talk. There's no like a story that you're going to get.
Starting point is 01:17:40 No Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones copy. I'm just going straight into it. I wanted to create fan fiction for Sandy Alcantra and him coming in for a save. And I was like, why is he doing this? Why? Let me tell you about his contract. He's got a team option for $21 million.
Starting point is 01:18:00 They're picking it up. They are, okay? Like this guy's a stud. As we mentioned earlier on, he has a lead for Major League Baseball's innings pitched this year. He throws 101 pitches on Monday, comes back Wednesday out of the pen to secure the save. 13 pitches there.
Starting point is 01:18:20 If you're being honest, it was kind of like a little crazy, like this ball right here. Paven Smith hits one to the freaking warning track. Who hit the next one? Because that was in center field. That was also a laser. Luis Gonzalez?
Starting point is 01:18:34 I don't know. Not Luis Gonzalez. Here we go. Tim Tawa. Tawa, Pawa. Almost hits one out here. This is a bomb.
Starting point is 01:18:42 This goes 400 feet. Yeah. Doesn't matter. Stolen base, caught stealing to end it. So he gets this save. And I'm like, okay, let's think about this a little bit. Why would he want to do that? This isn't a mad bum situation in the World Series.
Starting point is 01:18:57 Randy Johnson-esque. Is this me? Did I do that? Oh, God. Oh, I have it up. That's why. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 01:19:07 This isn't a Randy Johnson coming in and ending in the playoffs. This is the Marlins where, They're done. They're out of it. Why would he do this? I get, like, it's his bullpen day. So let's go waste him on the mound. I get that.
Starting point is 01:19:23 But still, this isn't something that you would do in the twilight of the seasons. I was all right, let's some fan fiction. And you know, who's like the guy on the DBEX who's kind of always in the news? It's Catel Marte. They're both Dominican, right? I'm like, I don't know.
Starting point is 01:19:41 Maybe there's some like DR, WBC. stuff I don't know about. And he wants to stick it to Catelle Marte in the Diamondbacks and say, you're not making the playoffs because I'm going to shut you down right here and get you even further behind the Padres because they can't lose. While I went and looked at his, his Instagram, Sandy Alcantara, still don't know how to say his name right. Sorry. Follows Catel Marte. There's another guy that will be on the WBC team that's on the Diamondbacks. Do you know who it would be? Geraldo Perdomo.
Starting point is 01:20:18 Everybody loves Heraldi Pardomo. We've heard of the million times. I love him. It's facts. Does Sandy follow Geraldo Pardomo on Instagram? It seems like the way you're building this up. Does Heraldo Pardomo follow Sandy on Instagram? He does not.
Starting point is 01:20:37 These are freaking teammates. I'm not even creating the fan fiction. I think I just found the scoop. Sandy doesn't want Perdomo in the playoffs. How do you not follow, if you're not following IG, you know what that means. You know what that means. I know what that means.
Starting point is 01:21:00 I'm just, look, do I believe this? Make sure you put this in the clip if we're clip. Do I believe this? For the love of God, don't clip this. Do I believe this? No. Is it possible? Is it in the realm of,
Starting point is 01:21:15 possibilities. Yes. The crowd loves it. Isn't that weird though? Don't tell me that's not fishy, bro. The whole thing. The Marlins are fishy. He walked in and said,
Starting point is 01:21:33 I will shut. Look, they used a bunch of relievers in the game before, seven, right? In the game before. So that's another reason. Sure. But if you want a little fun, if you want a little fun,
Starting point is 01:21:47 Checking that out Know when something traumatic happens And like in the moment You don't fully feel it And then you take a step back a couple A couple minutes And you're like holy fuck Like we just get in a car accident
Starting point is 01:22:04 Like did we Did that? Wow like what the hell just happened That's how I feel right now So you're it's starting to sink in a little bit Yes I mean does Davison de los Santos was traded from Arizona.
Starting point is 01:22:24 Did he have a vote? That's just strange to me, dude. You know how Instagram follows go. Let's follow for follow. You're on the team together. Power is power. My award. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:22:42 I titled it the October Sky Award. And I guess we're both showing our feathers a little bit here. Do you know the movie October Sky? It's one of Jake Gyllenhaal's first movies. I might have seen it. They make like rockets in West Virginia and like the towns against it. Whoa. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:23:03 Like he's, well, West Virginia is insane. And it's like a whole day. Like he's supposed to go work in the coal mines and like follow pa. But he's like a nerd rocket scientist and him and his nerdy buddies start doing rockets. Is this like a company or they're just in the backyard? They're like high school kids. And they start doing it, but then like the town's into it. They start doing events in the town.
Starting point is 01:23:24 What kind of rockets? Like this is early, like model rockets. Not like, send you to space rockets. No, no, no. This is 60s, 70s. There's another famous actor in it that, Lauren Dern? Laura Dern.
Starting point is 01:23:40 She's awesome. Look at that, young Jillinghall. I don't know. I can't believe you miss this. This is, I feel like right up your alley. My light, love Laura Dern. she crushes. Like every role she's in,
Starting point is 01:23:53 anyone that can play like both sides of the coin, I'm blown away by, and she has it. Like when she shows up in Star Wars and she's like the tough, like badass lady, anyways. October Sky, some of you this is hitting the cord with. Or, I don't know, me and only my friend saw this
Starting point is 01:24:10 because about a year ago, we just started sending each other October Sky Gifts. And it's so dumb. I mean, we're becoming old men, and that is what it is. October's coming up. Okay. And I would say, and maybe this is,
Starting point is 01:24:24 you could do this as some baseball today shit with Chris Rose, or maybe I'll do this as a Wake and Jake type segment. Someone has the biggest October coming up. In this sport that's like, it's a team sport, but we get hyper-focused on individuals. The guy who makes the most money in the game, on that team, we talked about all their pitchers, He's got a weird year.
Starting point is 01:24:55 People are, should he get benched for Joe's Wade DePaul? Don't call it a weird year. Call it what it is. A lackluster season. He's got a 700 OPS on the dot. It's a lackluster season. He's 15 homers. From a guy whose worst season before this was in the 8th.
Starting point is 01:25:11 And we were like, oh, well, he's kind of, he's, this is a guy who racks up war. Because he plays good defense. Trevor Ploof, 2013 season. He, that's what people are saying. And I can't, I just can't believe they're saying that shit. Kyle Tucker's had a few nights at the office recently. I told you. Doll is shocked.
Starting point is 01:25:34 I had more war, though, because I was playing deep. I don't even know if I could get through it. Kyle Tucker's played a couple good games. That's what I have. No. One for two with a Homer. Are you picking this? This is your guy.
Starting point is 01:25:53 There is a four for five. against Cincinnati. People, we dug through this one day, and we were like going through some of the old A-Rod stuff when his documentary came out, and I know A-Rod's landed in a weird spot, but, like, A-Rod initially just got hated because he got paid so much money.
Starting point is 01:26:16 He got paid $250 million to play baseball, and it blew people's minds that literally, like, the common person was just like, well, fuck that guy, like that much money to play baseball? that that kind of started Arod's weird cycle. Kyle Tucker, you know, there's some people that are just shocked at how much money he makes
Starting point is 01:26:38 and they spin it into CBA stuff. Well, it is what it is. He's had a couple big games recently. His October, man, if he has a big one, it's all worth it. He's an L.A. Dodgers hero. I think Dodger fans will love him even more. Like, yeah, oh, you didn't do the regular season?
Starting point is 01:26:58 We kind of don't care, man. If you show up on October, you're our guy. If Kyle Tucker has a bad October, or if he ends up on the bench, because a DePaula kid can play a little bit. Yeah. It's just going to be one of the weirder, zoomed-in octobers on one guy
Starting point is 01:27:19 on a team going for their third straight championship. I don't know if there's ever anything you could compare it to. And I don't know. There's like a Dodger I'm rooting for it, Tim, because I don't want him to get pure hatred. But at the same time, it's... The whole thing in a vacuum is very bizarre. Like, we're almost too close to it
Starting point is 01:27:43 that when Kyle Tucker got paid all that money by the Dodgers, we're like, well, this is what the Dodgers are doing, and Tucker's good, and they don't want to do long contracts anymore. The whole thing is nuts. No, what we said was he wants to go there and maybe wants to kind of just blend in and go win a championship. I think he, I don't know if he's blended in. I think, I think, no, I think, I think,
Starting point is 01:28:05 he's stood out for kind of the lackluster season he's had. I do believe he lives in my neighborhood. So shout out. I don't know. You want to come over. Come over. That slot. Watch October sky together.
Starting point is 01:28:19 That, that, that parallel between that and the award, that's not how it works. There's almost none. You just, it was just the one of October. Yeah, I really didn't. I skipped my payroll. parallel today because I didn't have one. I know, and that's, but you floored me so badly. I just needed to get October Sky and Homer Hickham involved.
Starting point is 01:28:37 Great movie. Can't believe you haven't watched it. That is so our generation coded. And I don't like saying that word. I don't know what you just said. Rob, have you seen October Sky? So I read the book. Okay.
Starting point is 01:28:52 In like seventh grade. That's a flex. It was, it was a required reading. I feel like I might have read the book too now. Oh. It's like a required reading. The book was big back in school. Like, we had to read it.
Starting point is 01:29:05 I don't think I ever actually saw the movie, but. I'm going to look how you look at the cover of October Sky. Almost everyone I know from the state of Connecticut knows this movie. It's the only, it's the only book I've ever read it and not the scene in the movie. I don't remember reading this book. Now looking at Homer Hickham wrote it. Homer Hickleck. Yeah, I didn't.
Starting point is 01:29:22 I didn't read this. I didn't read this. If you've made it to this point of the episode. Leave your October sky thoughts. Leave your fan fiction. What happens in the movie? They're mad because they're building rockets? Well, dude, so are you ready for this?
Starting point is 01:29:40 Does the town catch on fire? Yes. So one of the rockets gets away. So you actually would like this part. So every time the rocket goes up, they have to do nerd science to find out where it landed because it's like the wind that day and how far did the rocket go? So every time they have to go on like a chase to find the rocket.
Starting point is 01:29:57 and then there's like a massive fire and they couldn't find the rocket. Spoiler. You end up finding it. Well, if you haven't seen October. I mean, Jillen Hall's like 1999. 99.
Starting point is 01:30:10 Okay. Can I tell you something? This is true. People are we're here. We're missing going to dinner at the place Trev wanted. Real quick. No, we can still go.
Starting point is 01:30:19 I'm starving, so we're going. Okay. You know, my neighbor, Kyle Murphy, he like builds rockets and we tell them the same thing. You're going to, going to light our neighborhood on fire, dude. Is this the story of October Sky happening in my life? Can you text Kyle?
Starting point is 01:30:37 Okay. And ask him if he knows the movie October Sky. Right now. Because if Kyle is building rockets in your neighborhood and he doesn't know that movie, then I need to go on a research project to why all of my Connecticut loser friends, not even just the guys I've grown up with. Like, ancillary Connecticut people that we've met along the way, we've made October Sky jokes about
Starting point is 01:30:58 and everyone starts cracking up because it was like, it used to be one of those movies we'd get fed on like field trips. It was like that, the replacement, not the replacement. Not the replacement. Remember the Titans?
Starting point is 01:31:11 Oh yeah. The replacements would have been a lot cooler school. We, uh, I just texted them. I don't know. That's like a sci-op in the northeast or something, October Sky. Like they don't want you guys sliding anythings on fire.
Starting point is 01:31:23 Fine. Oh, I like that. movies on minor league bus trips. Oh. Think about, this is before, right? I was there's no iPad.
Starting point is 01:31:32 This ain't like a freaking like pull out your iPad kid. Give me them. The number one movie by far. Sure. And now I don't even remember what it's called. Hold on. Hold on. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 01:31:44 Okay, hold on, hold on. That's a crazy build up. That's a crazy build on. What year was this? Welcome, welcome to Giggle Squad Baseball. This is Trev, I'm Jake. That's Robb. Oh.
Starting point is 01:31:59 The girl next door. Oh, okay. Yeah. Absolutely. We watched it. I mean, it's like fun. Like there's hot chicks on it. Right.
Starting point is 01:32:08 There's a lot of things that like young dudes would like. We would cheer for that movie. That's so ironic in a way. Why? Like you guys are all professional baseball players watching the story of of like the kind of nervous, nerdy neighbor guy trying to get the girl. You heard what I said.
Starting point is 01:32:31 A lot to like in that movie. So just aged up dudes looking at a young Alicia Cuthbert. Could have thrown a lot of movies on for that. I'm going to ask this and I'm scared. Can you give me one other movie? If not, it's fine. Wasn't Paul Dano in that too?
Starting point is 01:32:49 No, it was, what was the guy's name in it? He's a famous actor. He was for a while. He was in, whatever. I just clicked the wrong movie. God damn it. There was a scary movie, The Girl Next Door Next Door that came out in 07.
Starting point is 01:33:03 There was another movie that we would, Girl Next Door was like, we would watch that, and we'd be stoked on it. Young Timothy Oliphant is in the Girl Next Door. Interesting. Oh, yeah. He's like the manager or the Pimp or whatever, something like that. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:33:20 I'm going to have to watch it. You've never seen it? No, I've seen it. Emil Hirsch is the guy. I have a little. I don't. Olivia Wilde's in it. I haven't been watching it regularly.
Starting point is 01:33:31 I don't know. There's other movies. It's like Major League yet put on. Everyone's like, turn it off. Oh, American Pie. Okay. That, yes. Yes, that makes a ton of sense.
Starting point is 01:33:41 Right? That makes a ton of sense. Like those, you got enough H in there. You got enough H in there for the fellas, but we're laughing. Oh, boy. Thank you, Rob.
Starting point is 01:33:54 Thank you. Maybe we shouldn't do this together. Emil Hirsch, what a career. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood? Oh, yeah, he's one of the... He's like the neighbor? He plays Jay Sebring. I think one of Olivia's friends used to date Amel Hirsch.
Starting point is 01:34:13 I don't know. It's L.A. people. It's L.A. Everyone's up is down. Down is up. Timothy Oliphon also in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. God, dude. Yeah. F for F.
Starting point is 01:34:28 Hot.
