Starting point is 00:00:01 Hello and welcome to Talking Baseball Dog Day season. Unless you're a race fan, the top of the National League is getting nasty. Let's ride it out. Let's talk ball. Kyle Harrison. Valentine Drake. Wow. Hello and welcome to talking baseball.
Starting point is 00:00:27 It's presented by Fanatics Markets. We're fans trade on sports. Fanatics markets available now on the app stores. I'm Jake Story Ellie. That's Trevor Plouffe. is Christian Yelich jersey shirt from our merch store even though he's getting dropped in the lineup Pat Murphy he don't care you don't care about your bankroll we got to win some games although their series this week did not go that way San Diego where are they coach trev how are you
Starting point is 00:00:58 hand up that's on me valentine drake's a lefty okay thank you he could have switch hit once and a while and you know he played in 1920 so you never know uh I'm doing great Shout out the Brewers. It didn't happen yet, but I think they hasn't happened. Against the doyers last night. Can't wait for the weekend, coach. Got some stuff planned, some fun stuff,
Starting point is 00:01:22 a birthday party, some chill time. You are excited for the week. You're not normally a live for the weekend guy because you're a live to live guy, but you're juiced up for this weekend. Yeah, you know what it is. I'm getting my kids back. They've been in camp and Teddy's been in school.
Starting point is 00:01:37 I just want to hang with. them. I don't know. I'm seeing my nephews this weekend. So hopefully that gives me a little bit a chicken chicken soup for the soul. Are we good guys? Yes. Did we just decide that if we owned a team pre-segregation that we would have been dominated because we wouldn't have had color lines? Yes. Yeah. We would have been, it would have been controversial. No, wouldn't. We would have had to fend off a lot of, a lot of whites trying to not let us put together our Latin. So many Cuban ball players on. on our team. Valentin Drake would have been leading off for us.
Starting point is 00:02:12 Get on, get them over. He had a couple homers. Hey, he had 15 homers. There was some get on get over this week. There was also, I saw some balls leaving the ballpark that had a little, felt like they had a little more zip than some baseballs I saw earlier this season.
Starting point is 00:02:29 Oh, no. Valentin Drake, I got to imagine. Nobody knows who that is. He's an old Cuban ball player from the early 20th century. When I look at these homers, when a guy hits 15 over an eight-year period, I'm assuming they're all inside the park, like there was no fences. Is that weird of me? No.
Starting point is 00:02:50 All of them is a little rude, but a chunk of them, like, not at all. Like, dude, again, did you ever really play a baseball video game growing up? Yeah, of course I did. Okay. Which one? Carlos Delgado. I used to be PlayStation 1. I guess here's the question.
Starting point is 00:03:10 Did you ever get nerdy and mess around with, like, the old stadiums? Like when it, like, video games would allow you to be like, oh, play, play Ebitsfield, play. I don't know. Okay. So for a lot of baseball losers, that was their exposure to some of the old stadiums. And yeah, I mean, it used to be jarring that you'd see an old baseball stadium. And it's like, oh, it's 220 right down the line, but it was 650 to right center. So it's like, yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:35 You could sneak a couple out at the polo grounds, but you can also just hit a hard dribbler to second, and you might round the bases. So that was talking ball. It's Friday. So we're going to have to save all our Brett Bateman talk for the American League. Because my God, give me that guy. A little, and I'm going to spoil some of Trev's up,
Starting point is 00:03:56 maybe we'll get some F or F flowing. Guardians, four games under 500, as I'm just scanning. Don't do this right now. Athletics, Angels, Royals, Mariners, your bottom four in the AL. And by the way, the Cincinnati Reds jump the pirates. So, yeah, we're going to talk about a lot of that. There's a lot of Paul Skeen's fodder on the internet. Some we might poo-poo.
Starting point is 00:04:23 Some baseball stuff we've got to talk about. Is Brash and Ashcraft the captain now? Let's talk about all the other teams that are good. And we'll start in the NL. Speaking of teams that are good, it's the Milwaukee Brewers. And the Padres, Dad's home, he's going to have himself a beer. They sweep them up. San Diego, Merrill Madness.
Starting point is 00:04:47 Jackson Merrill's back in a big way. Remember when he was getting compared to young Freddie Freeman? That hadn't been happening for a while, and now it's back. Thai France. Ha, ha, ha. Look at the year he's having. Might have himself a nice little free agency coming up. Camp Osano late, Gary Sanchez.
Starting point is 00:05:05 Former Padre, people forget that, battling and helping Milwaukee go ahead. How's your hired gun game? Dustin May versus Robbie Ray in that final one. But the Padres win in extra innings, they get the sweep against the Milwaukee Brewers. I wonder if the Milwaukee Brewers could possibly bounce back against the Dodgers. The Phillies, they drop two out of three to the St. Louis Cardinals. check out where they are in the standings. Andrew Ice Cream Paint Job helps them win that first game
Starting point is 00:05:37 and a depleted bullpen battle it out to win. But then it's St. Louis Dirty Birds the rest of the way. Andre Palante sure has. And Alec Burleson in that final game, St. Louis, staying alive in this season. I hope the Phillies can have some good luck in their field of dreams game coming up. Pirates, they played the Marlins for three games. The Marlins take two out a tree.
Starting point is 00:06:04 Yuri Perez, yo, dropped it on him. So much you might hear about him later. A little spoiler there. Griffin Conine, he's everywhere. Mr. Marlin Jr. Okay, just found his nickname. That's sick. Pirates stave off the sweep with Braxton Ashcraft on the bump.
Starting point is 00:06:23 How's your complete game? Rafi Flores Jr. Two tanks. One's a position player pitching. They don't care in Arb. The Dodgers, they sweep the Royals, and look who's back. Snellagram, hello, might see him in October, people. You might see scubal, you might see Muncie, you might see Shohei.
Starting point is 00:06:46 They sweep the Royals. It's been late early for Kansas City. Dodgers season is basically just starting, so get ready for that. The Rockies take two out of three from the Diamondbacks. Little TBT, oh no, baby, what is you doing? D-backs win the first game, 9-0, nothing. There's Aeronado, Grand Salami, I bet. But then it's rock pile the rest of the way.
Starting point is 00:07:13 Sagano shoves, Kyle Caros, a young Trevor ploof. And then Brett Sullivan and the boys get it done to take two out of three from the snake. Can't happen this time of year. The Chicago Cubbies, are they getting hot? at the right time. They take two out of three from the Washington Nationals. Let's see, Bregman, three homer game. Yep, my salsa. And then in that final game, the Nats do salvages series, Kate Kavali, bringing it home down the stretch. And of course, Abamelech Ortiz, Abbey, they call him, three-run, home run
Starting point is 00:07:51 to salvage. The Braves take two out of three from the Mets, and that's obvious. Brett Beatty Grand Slam. Pick to click for Keith Hernandez. So he did. Kodi sang his first save. The ball goes to a fan. That was a fun one. And then it's Braves. Martin Perez, obviously, dropping it on the table.
Starting point is 00:08:09 And then Matt Olson. Tyler Malley, like rally, people. Get it right. He shoves in that final game. In our last National League series, we'll be covering, of course, the former National League Houston Astros. They take two out of three from the San Francisco Giants, and maybe that's obvious at this point. Trevis, your guy, Cam Smith back?
Starting point is 00:08:28 big game in that first night and then the Astros in the rubber match. Wow, Tatsuya Amai gets in there. And the Astros, they end up getting it done, winning the series against the sad San Francisco Giants. That's what happened in the National League. A lot of what is you doing, babies, I feel like happened in the National League. I got the standings pod.
Starting point is 00:08:54 Do you want him? Tyler Malley rhymes with Rally. Yeah, that's it. That's it. I'll start out east. Jake, where the Atlanta Braves have a nine game lead over the Philadelphia, Philly, 73 and 48 for them. The Phillies, 65 and 58. Yes, people, they beat my twins.
Starting point is 00:09:16 But did they get to play catch with Roger Clemens after the game? Like Cody did? No, they didn't. So take that. 65 and 58 for the Phillies, 62 and 60 for the Marlins, them Nats, 60 and 63. and Jolly Olive's Mets. Congratulations, Jolly Olive. Yeah, Jolly gets married tonight.
Starting point is 00:09:37 Tonight. He gets married tonight. I love love. You know that. 20 and a half games back, though, for your Mets. Jolts, you'll take that little jab before you have the best night of your life. In the Central,
Starting point is 00:09:51 the Milwaukee Brewers lead down to four. 75 and 47 for them. 71 and 51. That's more of like a good job to the cut. than anything, for being honest. 20 games or 500 for them. The St. Louis Cardinals hanging around, 61 and 60. As you mentioned, the Cincinnati Reds leapfrogged the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Starting point is 00:10:11 They're 58 and 62, while the Pittsburgh Pirates are 59 and 64. What the freak happened by it's Connor Griffin went down. The Dodgers lead the West by eight games, 73 and 49 for them, 65 and 57 for the pods, 64 and 58 one game back are the Arizona Diamondbacks the Giants 50 and 71 like what happened what's going on in San Francisco because well
Starting point is 00:10:43 I don't want to get in the Bay Area but you're losing teams the Niners have had some stuff going on they can't keep players healthy you got the Giants whatever this is have no idea Buster Posey what is you doing baby. Anyways, there are 21 games under 500. The Colorado Rockies, 48 and 73.
Starting point is 00:11:03 Jake, do you want to, I called you Drake. Jake, do you want to hear the wild card standings? I need them. Need them. Need them. Nidos are the new thing for kids. In case you want to buy your nephew a toy, needo. How you spell on that? It's insane.
Starting point is 00:11:19 Right now, the Cubs would have the first wild card spot, followed by the Padres, and then the Phillies. are sitting a half game up for the last and final wild card playoff spots. The Diamondbacks half game behind them. The Miami Marlins, two and a half games back.
Starting point is 00:11:39 St. Louis, three games back. And that's where I'm going to end the standings. Whoa. Washington, out. Sinci, out. Pittsburgh, out. Dang. Go, Nats go. Those are the standings in the National League.
Starting point is 00:11:53 Sometime it really do be like that. What's your guy nine? think about the Niner substation thing because I don't know what to do with that I don't I haven't really got into it yeah it's a weird one is it true or are we just making it that because it's right to talk about right I can see both yeah you know that's kind of the problem probably true but they're like yeah it's not true like oh like oh wow that was that was horrible bad idea to have that today's episode is sponsored by fox one MLB on fox is now streaming on Fox one this time of year talking baseball, it's what it was made for.
Starting point is 00:12:30 The race October starts now, and Fox 1 has your front row seat. Every walkoff matters. Every bullpen decision gets dissected. Every series against a wild card contender is a test on whether a team is built for the playoffs. Fox 1 puts all of it in one place. Follow every can't-miss matchup from now through the postseason, live as it happens, and it goes all the way. Fox 1 is streaming the 2026 World Series.
Starting point is 00:12:55 not a highlight package, not a recap, the actual games live as they unfold. At home or on the go, live or on demand, whatever works. The Race of the World Series is on. Never miss a moment by watching MLB Live on Fox One stream now. Thank you for the standings, Coach Trev. Sorry for spoiling some of it, but yeah, I think as people know that listened to this show, the Pirates, I was kind of displeased with their deadline. and I was displeased with their offseason.
Starting point is 00:13:25 Oh, their offseason was fine. It worked out great early on. Offensively, yes. And I just wanted a little more. You want the bullpen upgrades. They're in a weird spot. They're in a weird spot. Thank you, Coach Trev.
Starting point is 00:13:37 And yeah, guys, if one of your teams, it's that time, it should have been this time of year earlier. We've just been so damn excited for this baseball season. We might have to chop a couple of these series out of here. Like, that's brave. I don't know. It's the dog days. Sure is.
Starting point is 00:13:54 A series we have to talk about the San Diego Daddy's, a roller coaster ride of this season. They get out hot, but everything tells us they're going to slow down. They slowed down in a big way, man. They were one of those teams that had those splits numbers that it was like, you know, if you take out the first month,
Starting point is 00:14:10 the Padres have actually been bad. And you're looking at guys stat lines on the season. Mani, you're looking at Jackson Merrill. Well, Jackson Merrill. has been bawling, especially since the second half. I want to give Ty France more and more love because what he has done throughout this season, normally the only guy on the first base defensive metric charts has just had an amazing offensive season.
Starting point is 00:14:36 They sweep the Brewers, man, and that's a series when you see it on the calendar. You're hoping to survive their pitching staff. You're hoping to get out of their, you know, walking tall, hopefully. not a lot of teams are sweeping the crew, and that's what San Diego did, and they're feeling great. 26 games and 27 days, 17 and 9 in that span.
Starting point is 00:15:00 That's huge, Coach Trev. They've got their lineup kind of going. That was the problem. 18 and 7 in April, so they started out hot, and then the offense just kind of took a dive. We were worried about the pitching staff. It was injured.
Starting point is 00:15:12 They picked that up at the deadline. That was kind of their big deadline acquisition, but a guy that they got from these brewers has also been really good. I'm talking about lengthening the lineup. Talk about Thai France, Jackson Mero, going. What about Luis Renifo? Grand Slam. Comes over from the brewers, not that big of a deal.
Starting point is 00:15:35 They DFAed him two months ago, and they released him after that. San Diego picks him up. What's he doing in these games with San Diego? I don't know, 316 with an 869 OPS. That feels good. So you're getting a little lengthening of the lineup, Tatee, is going. Chris Rose posed this question to me. He said, does this team
Starting point is 00:15:52 as good or, you know, the Dodgers, they give the Dodgers trouble in 2024. The Dodgers said that was the World Series. They talked about that. He said, does this team match up? It's largely like the same team. Really. A couple different pitchers, but they added that way. Mason
Starting point is 00:16:08 Miller at the back end of the bullpen instead of Bobby Suarez. So you got all that going on. I don't know, man. Like this team, when the offense is, I mean, you could say that about any team. when it's all clicking, they're going to be good. This team feels a little bit different. They have the stars to do it.
Starting point is 00:16:24 They have the complimentary pieces now, and the bullpen's going to keep it in every single game. We're seeing them come back to life right in front of our eyes. Yeah, it's so funny that players path sometimes, like Luis Renhifo this year, there's a few people in the great state of Milwaukee that are like, that guy stunk, man, 534 OPS, 537 games. It's just not for me, you know, get out of here. Renhifo.
Starting point is 00:16:47 San Diego. 861 run he foe is like, we love this guy. I'm thinking about Ghana, Jersey. Man, the Fermanator, Freddie Fermine, I don't know, he just shows up in highlights. We're throwing guys out. Helping out Mason Miller.
Starting point is 00:17:05 And yet, Brewers, again, this is one of the weird ones for us, Coach Trev, because, A, I wonder, were they overlooking this series just a little bit? We know what the Mighty, Mighty Dodgers did to them last October. That was a little Chris Rose of me. That was a little Chris Rose. They were fully engaged in these games. You and I happened to know what they did last night,
Starting point is 00:17:25 that I think there's a little bias sneaking in there. And let's be on. I mean, that last game goes 11 innings. Yeah. That, yeah, the first one's a one-run game that Jackson Merrill flips the scoreboard in the seventh of Logan Henderson. So, yeah, you're inches away from going two-one Brewers, but it's not, it's huge for San Diego.
Starting point is 00:17:47 and yeah, I don't know. Milwaukee fans, I guess, let me know what you're thinking and maybe, you know, last night's game. I don't know, man, I guess as a Yankee fan, I see Pat Murphy slides Yelly and William Contreras down in the lineup, and I'm like, wow, like, the Yankees, like, never do that to their guys. The brewers, I know there's no rules and they operate differently. What are the vibes? What are the vibes?
Starting point is 00:18:12 I don't know. Humble, those are the vibes. Humble and hungry for my. Brew Crew. Yelly is leading the way. When you have a guy like Yeli willing to do whatever it takes, and he's a guy that has like the most confidence in the world, but also is humble and hung, like he knows like, okay, like yeah, I'm not playing to the best my ability. I should move down the order and he wants to get better. He's the perfect leader for them. That last game was awesome. You got a couple really, really good at bats there against Aaron Ashby by the Padres. Tatees comes
Starting point is 00:18:47 around from second base to score. You work on that play all the time in spring training. You got to check home. Didn't check home. Tatis scores. A couple things later on the game, Garrett Mitchell with a great catch, Terang striking out against Morahom with the bases loaded.
Starting point is 00:19:06 Luis Laura, another incredible catch. He's been fantastic out there. But in the end, yeah, Padre is going, sweep the brew crew. And I think, baseball is better when the Padres are good, people. And right now go for it.
Starting point is 00:19:21 I want them to be rewarded. Even at the deadline, they won what was it, eight of ten or eight of nine to force Prellor's hand. He goes and makes moves. Like, you should be rooting for a team like the Padres. Winners of five in a row,
Starting point is 00:19:35 seven and three in their last ten. They are currently the two team in the postseason. They'd be traveling to Wrigley if it ended today. There's still so much to sort out. They're a half game up on the Phillies. is there a game up on the Diamondbacks? It does appear, you know, there's going to be a team that has some real heartbreak missing the dance in that National League.
Starting point is 00:19:56 And I think there might be another one because I still have some Marlin stock, which maybe people poo-poo that, but not my fish. Phillies Cardinals, I just mentioned the Phillies are the other team in that wild card spot right now. Andrew Painter gives them an effort, which I was watching that game. And I was like, man, like, could he be a difference maker for this team that's been hunting for a fifth starter all year? Looked really solid. Wheels come off in that fifth. And then Philly's depleted bullpen.
Starting point is 00:20:26 I was watching that game. I mean, it almost, it was kind of turning into a horror movie that you're like, wait, they're just going to let Al and Ron Hell ride this out. And they had to. And then bowling comes in for his first save. And thank God they win that game, Trev. Because this is another team. As I mentioned, the Padres, when we were looking up team. splits throughout this season is like amazing start not so good now now they're kind of back remember
Starting point is 00:20:50 philly every episode it was like dude undermittingly these guys some of those stats are starting to start to drift away and not matter as much coach it's funny you've heard philly's fans now be like madly you can't manage i'm like oh that's interesting what a win loss record will do to you uh okay watching the congrats to the cardinals number one yes yes about them doing what they're doing, you know, getting to Zach Wheeler. He was cruising in that last game. They grinded them out there in the fifth inning. He made him throw 35 pitches, four consecutive two out hits.
Starting point is 00:21:25 Great. I do want to talk about the Phillies a little bit. Cece was on the Netflix call last night. They're playing my Twinsfield, the Dreams games. And he said, this is a long veteran lineup. And I have to disagree respectfully. Like this has not been a long lineup. It's been weighed heavily by the top guys.
Starting point is 00:21:41 They've mixed some, some people around the diamond now. defensively. They got Luis a rise that helps out a little bit, although he hasn't been great for them. Started out okay and has kind of fallen back. I mean, this, this lineup can get ice cold. I don't really get it. I agree with Cece. You look at the names. You're like, okay, like, this is, they should be grindy. They should be doing this, but there are times where they can kind of just be non-existent, essentially. And that's what happened. Last two games, you score one run. You're going to lose that. series and they did that against the Cardinals here. So snaps to the Cardinals, but also, hey, man, if you want to be talked about like we always talked about you with the Phillies,
Starting point is 00:22:24 like it has to just, it has to start getting better. Yeah. And I, you're right on the offense. And then they just put up a big number on my twins. I get it. I know. And hey, man, those field of dreams games, sometimes the batch of balls that ends up out there is just a little different. Well, they were saying, they were saying, oh, it's so windy and the ball's not caring. Then it was just like, pooh, wow, yeah. I'll tell that. to Keishel. Oh, stop. Don't.
Starting point is 00:22:47 It was tough. That game didn't happen. That game didn't happen yet. Yeah, another joke of mine throughout the start of the season when the Phillies got hot was like, oh, under Mattingly. It was also under Wheeler and three of his last four haven't been gems. And if your offense doesn't do it. And again, credit to the Cardinals, credit for Kyle Leahy, who's been pitching well of late. Like, Burdleston's been great.
Starting point is 00:23:08 They've been crushing it. They're seven and three. They're alive. Like, don't. Yeah. Don't mess around. If you mess around and keep them in it, someone... They didn't, they sold who they were supposed to sell at the break.
Starting point is 00:23:21 Right. They did a soft sell. I mean, again, Dustin May's last start, which was like four days before the deadline, it was hugs on the way out, which I was like, I don't know. They don't have to. They're still doing this thing. But they did. And let's see what that means in future years.
Starting point is 00:23:35 And let's see what it means for this year. They're at Chicago, the Cubbies this weekend. You stay around. Hope is a dangerous thing, Trev. know this. You've seen this. Jordan Walker. Sounds like a Lady Gaga song. Jordan Walker had a 10-game hit streak. Didn't know that?
Starting point is 00:23:52 That ended. What hell is Lady Gaga doing? Yeah, she's one of those people that got so famous that she doesn't do stuff. I love that. I like that movie she was in. Bradley Cooper. What was that? Starzborn? I like that. That was good. It's a great remake, but a great movie.
Starting point is 00:24:07 Great movie. Just turn it off before the last 20 minutes. That's my advice. It's a great, it's a great quick Jake story. I think I've told it before. And spoiler, spoiler, if you haven't seen a star is born, like you had a decade. That movie went to see it afternoon because I heard it's sad. And if I'm watching something sad, I kind of need to do it early in the day.
Starting point is 00:24:30 Demons get dark late. That, dude, no joke. See the movie. And, yeah, there's a little plot to Bradley Cooper calls it, calls it life. and these people next to me, they went to the bathroom during that scene. They came back. They missed.
Starting point is 00:24:49 That was the only part they missed of the movie. So they came back. Movie ends and they're like, wait, why is everyone sobbing? They asked me on the way out. And I was like, yeah, he killed himself. And it was just like, you miss the entire film, basically. What's the other, it's that movie and blow.
Starting point is 00:25:06 You just don't finish it. Oh, wow. 30 minutes to go, you're done. Ford versus Ferrari. just stop it five minutes before the ending. Oh, I haven't seen that. That's a great movie, too. Good to know.
Starting point is 00:25:18 Go Cardinals Go. My manager of the year, Ali Marmal. Hey, now, if you like baseball, be sure to check out our biggest and best J.M. Baseball trivia episode yet. We've got fans of all 30 MLB teams
Starting point is 00:25:29 to compete to prove who knows the most ball and crown a champion. We're going to get it started with the classic game of Pinpoint Challenge. Check it out now on J.M. Baseball YouTube channel. Don't want to miss this one. Marlins Pirates probably doesn't have juice if we're doing clickbait.
Starting point is 00:25:44 Although there's, like we said, there's a skeins combo to be had. I don't know if that's more baseball today. I still have my Marlin stock. I'm talking about a Marlins player in a little bit. Hint, it's Yuri Perez, who goes seven-stores and seven strikeouts, yeah. That I don't know. I know, I think you're talking some Ashcroft coming out. So do we want to do skeins?
Starting point is 00:26:04 Do we want to move past this? What do you got? But a little bit as for Ruiz. he kind of for both runs in that first game little solo shot off in the ball dude then he gets hit by pitch a little delayed steel you know kind of making it happen long ball and some in some stuff on the base pass you got to love it for a guy that's like kind of a an enigma right like you never kind of know where where is he at who's he playing for what's he doing yeah man he's he's a jolly olive video as we shout out on his day look at those cleats go back to that dude it led
Starting point is 00:26:39 led the American League in Steeles in 23 with 67 of them, and he's been missing, and he's a part of a trade we reference all the time. Yeah, because he wore a bracelet talking about the A's, and they buried him. And he's been, dude, for a guy that led the A.L. and steals, 11 homers in 77-8, 868 OPS, so I'm glad you brought him up. But I also think people don't super care. Talk about Skeens a little bit, because it's a big baseball combo. He gets pulled after, what, 65 pitches and the V-Lo's down and the performance hasn't been there.
Starting point is 00:27:14 Everybody's talking. Everybody's got a reason. I mean, look, I think we have set expectations incredibly high for this guy, number one. If you're one of those people talking about his body, you've just never been around a base. You never been in the shower with guys before. Nice, nice, I tell you that much right now. Gas, or mass equals gas, ever heard of that? Yeah. and if he's pitching fine
Starting point is 00:27:38 you would not say anything about it. Go look at like John Lackey. Okay. No offense, John. Let's not. Let's not do that. I'm just saying. I know.
Starting point is 00:27:48 Jose Miharez, go check him out. That body on that left. Stop naming guys bodies. I'm just saying, let's get rid of that. I do think he's pitched a lot and the Vila being down is troubling. You call that wear and tear in the arm. You can call it mechanical. I have my old trainer,
Starting point is 00:28:06 Brad Newman shout out my guy sent me video saying he could fix Paul schemes he sees it in his mechanics uh so like a lot of people trying to chip in here and figure out what's wrong don Kelly did say it's not an injury or else he wouldn't be pitching which is very obvious but i think that needs to be talked about because some people like oh is he hurt it's like okay if he was hurt he would not be pitching right now so you know i mentioned on baseball today hey is it time to shut him down probably not but like could we see him not pitch in September or the end of September? Like, yeah, I can see that happening as they're protecting a very prized, you know, part of that franchise. Yeah, I, for me, we've hit the next step where this has become
Starting point is 00:28:48 such a conversation that, hey man, we just talked, Zach Wheeler, three out of his last four starts, weren't that great. Like, it's baseball. It comes for literally everyone that, it's on full watch. And it skeens, he could also finish the season as the best starter in September. I don't, I wouldn't bet on that right now. But it's a funny sport. If the Velo and the performance slips one or two more times, it's got to be on the table, Treve, especially as, again, this is dramatic. And you can do this with the National League standings right now.
Starting point is 00:29:21 The only teams worse in the National League than the Pirates right now. As of today, as we record this. Mets, Giants, Rockies. Let's get off the Pirates. Done. You know who got back for the Marlins in this series, real quick. Augustine Ramirez.
Starting point is 00:29:40 Hot. I like that body. Double drove in a run. Marlins been playing great at home. They had a big four-run third in the second game to take the series. And then they got Braxton-Assraft, which we'll talk about later in the show. Over it in a big way. Dodgers, like I mentioned, Snell is back.
Starting point is 00:29:59 I'm giving him an assist later. Max Muncie has the most home runs at Dodger Stadium. So that's insane. That happened last night. Oh, I forgot that hasn't. So he tied the record, excuse me. Thank you. And then he's got to walk off in game two, which did happen in this game.
Starting point is 00:30:15 I don't know, Treve, a little good team, bad team, and I know we do this with the Dodgers, but they're the best team. They haven't really been playing like the best team, but I still give that to them, yes. I think they're still the best roster. This one has scoobo start at home. Jack Caglione kind of makes him pay a little bit. He's been going. and we talked about him last episode, I believe,
Starting point is 00:30:39 but they end up getting that victory there. Tucker has the basis-loaded walk. Muncie, bases clearing three-run double in that game. That's awesome. You mentioned what Muncie did in the second game. Probably need to talk about him in the season he's having more. Absolute's freaking stud. And then, yeah, go Eric Lauer, go, six and a third in that last one,
Starting point is 00:31:02 112 pitches, longest start of the season for the Dodgers. So, yeah, I mean, look, a little bit of good team, bad team. team. Dodgers are going to be fine. I think they do need to figure out their bullpen. They've had a hell of a time signing free agents and not getting what they want out of them. Edwin Diaz just has not been good. I know we're talking about the Dodgers sweeping right now. Dalton and I were up late last night watching this game.
Starting point is 00:31:23 Max Muncie again, by the way, with a massive freaking swing. Putting the Dodgers ahead. Hasn't happened. Against a great Milwaukee bullpen. Edwin Diaz has got to figure it out. Stuff doesn't look very sharp. slider looks hangy, in middle of the zone, hanging, and that's not what you want. So they have some things to figure out.
Starting point is 00:31:44 But in the end, yeah, are we going to be calling the Dodgers the overwhelming favorite for the playoffs? Yes, we will be. Huge. Sorry, Royals. Horrible season. Trev, the rest of this National League, I mean, Cubbies are hot and deserve some snaps. Breggie's three home run game, I mentioned. I gave the debacks of what are you doing?
Starting point is 00:32:03 and then for Atlanta and Houston, they beat bad teams that I don't have much to add. You know, D-BACs, bats went cold this series, that last game, game three, 21 base runners, they only scored four runs,
Starting point is 00:32:18 had 10 walks, 11 hits, three for 12 runners in scoring position, that 15 people on base. That's going to be a tough one. I guess, yeah, I don't know. Go, Aeronado, go? Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:32:35 We, um, this, this season for Nolan could have gone a different direction. Oh, I forgot to welcome Corby and Carol into the 100 Homer Club. Oh. Welcome. Congrats, Corbyn. I had no idea. That's really good for him. He cares.
Starting point is 00:32:54 Let's do some A. That's a great stat. Hold on. I just saw a great stat. Corbyn Carroll, a career home run, opposite field shot in the eighth. He joins Lou Gehrig. And Joe DiMaggio as the only players with 100 or more homers and 50 or more triples before their 60th career game.
Starting point is 00:33:16 Dalton, you freaking dog you. And you know what? The notes he kept surprisingly short for some reason, Dalton the DeBacks fan as they lost to the Colorado Rockies. Caros, Kerrig. Okay. I think we keep moving. stuff real quick that's crazy i love that okay uh bregman went uh spent the off day in the video room
Starting point is 00:33:43 with uh one of their hitting guys ben martin h uh and just started looking at old video talking about about decade old video when he was in double a of it found that he was a little bit disconnected his quote is i woke up in the morning thinking about it got here right in the cage trying to think about the same things that we talked about. So, like, this guy goes, sees on video, goes the next day of the cage, turns it around. Let's go. I've got a question I'm more interested. I like Alex Breggman.
Starting point is 00:34:15 Send me a text. I've got a question I'm more interested in than these remaining series. Baseball rats, because that's the whole thing with Breggman and Horner and all these cubs. The guys you played with who were standout, like, baseball rats, like off. Just a more no. Yeah? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:33 This guy was a fucking psycho, man. He was the first guy I knew that had like the video system. He had it put on a laptop for him to take home. Usually we get there early, we'd go in the video room, do it. He would bring it home and he would like eat breakfast, watch. He was video, video, video. He's the one who taught me how to do like a pump up video. Like he had that and then he'd have his highlights.
Starting point is 00:35:01 and he would have all of our highlights playing on the TVs around the clubhouse, and then he would just grind in the cage, take more swings than anybody. He was an absolute rat. Did a lot for me. Thank you. Let's do some American League baseball. Toronto! Do not say that second T. It's all we talk about. And we're going to be talking some Blue Jays the rest of the way, I think, Coach Trev.
Starting point is 00:35:33 They take three out of four. from the Mighty Mighty Red Sox, the first three games. In fact, to put the Red Sox on an L5, Peyton Tolly, of course, stopped that because he's a freak right now. But the Blue Jays are in, how's your Charles McAdoo? Because he's getting hot and providing a little spark.
Starting point is 00:35:55 Baitman. Some new faces and new places as Toronto finding a little bit of the sauce in Boston sending their fans. just up a wall throughout this season, the AL Beast is here. The Cleveland Guard Dogs lose two out of three to the Detroit Tigers. Okay, give me some standings. Kevin McGonigal, what that, God, he represents,
Starting point is 00:36:24 every young player listening to this show, watch him, I beg of you. Watch him, and you know Cater Montero did his thing, six-inning shutpiece, No punches. You don't need them, people. Pitchers watch cater. Hitters watch McGonagall. Yeah, every young pitcher. Just throw 96.
Starting point is 00:36:46 Tiger, I need the standings. Yankees take two out of three from Seattle. Are the Mariners dead? I don't know. They won that last game. They've got a big series this weekend. Otherwise, it was Yankees the rest of the way. The late game, Yanks are getting it done.
Starting point is 00:37:00 Two comeback wins in those first two games. Trent Grisham shows up in a big Louis Garcia Jr. Scouting report? It's fun. Fun player. Yankees take two out of three. Twins take two out of three from Baltimore. Let's go. Dean, I like my coffee with some creamer. Treb's going to talk about him because he thinks he's hot. And seven innings of one hit ball, I'll also allow it. Austin Martin, like him, Trev. He's one of my contact kings. Give me him, Nick Gonzalez. We'll just slap it around the yard all day.
Starting point is 00:37:36 Sometimes. Alan Rode in three for three. You know Trev's going to talk about it. Orioles, what is you doing? The Reds take two out of three from the White Sox. And boy, things got hot. Don't put it there. Sal Stewart gave you one and a thumbs up.
Starting point is 00:37:53 And then you did it again. Breakdown. Inbound. Reds, they win the first game in ten innings, one run game. They win the last game, one-run game, 9-8 affair. Luis Castillo dropped it in the middle. I might be talking about him as well. Seven innings, one hit as they blank the Reds.
Starting point is 00:38:13 The Angels take three out of four from the Texas Rangers. Rangers, I don't know, man. I don't know. They win that first game, 4-1 in extras. But then it's Halo's the rest of the way. Walbert Urania does it again. Of course. Mike Trout with the three.
Starting point is 00:38:31 or five in there. I don't know. Texas, you torture me. And the race. What did they do, Coach Trev? They swept. They swept. They swept the athletics. Put up big runs. They average 10 runs per game in the three games and a little bit of that Mickey Mouse ballpark. Taylor Walls to Homer. Liam Hicks, new face, new place. The rays are a problem. You're going to want to hear where they are in the standings and you're going to want to hear how many games. they've won in a row because it's nine. That's what happened in the American League. I was like, I had something to say to you.
Starting point is 00:39:10 Oh, yeah, Luis Garcia Jr. You guys were like, oh, we don't need him. We don't need him, though. He's going to be a bench player for us. That was your voice right there. That wasn't my voice. That wasn't my vote. That was nothing.
Starting point is 00:39:23 It was something like that. I do have the standings. Robin Ventura's face is just looking at me on the front of the baseball reference page. What are you doing, bro? Relax. Love Robin Ventura. It was a tough day for me when I found out the Nolan Ryan headlock.
Starting point is 00:39:42 It was Robin Ventura. Oh. I thought he was the first Mets player I thought was cool. And then he joined the Yankees. And then they were like, look at this highlight. And I was like, oh, shoot. Rob Ventura got the business from Nolan Ryan. I know.
Starting point is 00:39:56 It's tough when it happens in front of the whole world. Yeah. Rob, well, Treff does the standings. find Robin Ventura getting beat up by Nolan Ryan. It's an all-time baseball video. Tim Anderson just retired, and he's like, that's another one that's going to be up there. I feel bad for guys.
Starting point is 00:40:14 You're going to lose a fight. I mean, I'm undefeated in my fights, but hopefully I would never want to have a fight again. Congrats on a great career, Tim. I also don't want to be in another fight. Once you cross that line, you're just like, no. You need to get in a few. Yes.
Starting point is 00:40:31 That's my take is young men, You need to scrap a little bit. Football helps, but you need to get hit. You don't need to hit somebody necessarily, but you need to get hit, I think. That's my true. Oh, man. Maybe not that many times.
Starting point is 00:40:45 Here's a headlock, and here's six uppercuts from the guy who threw the ball the hardest in the sport ever. I have the standings. The Tampa Bay raise. I'm going to be talking about him a little bit later. 74 and 46. that is the best record in baseball percentage-wise, yes. Yes, it is.
Starting point is 00:41:10 Yes. Wow. Yeah. They have a six and a half game lead with how many games, like 40 games left, something like that? It's getting tight. Over your Yanks. Yes.
Starting point is 00:41:21 Who are 68 and 53. One more for that 69. Nice. Okay, that's weird. I just said that. Boston, 65 and 56. A little bit of a roller coaster season for the Red Sox. But they're fine.
Starting point is 00:41:39 They're doing it. How about Toronto? You don't have to be that good in the American League. That's the secret. They're not that good, but they're close to a playoff spot. 59 and 64 for them. 58 and 63 for the Baltimore Birds in the Central. White Sox still leading the way kid.
Starting point is 00:41:58 62 and 58. They're two and a half games up on who? Jack Flaherty's team Oh 60 and 61 for the Detroit Tigers Minnesota 60 and 63 They're three and a half back there
Starting point is 00:42:11 But closer in the wild card Guardians 59 and 63 Kansas City Royals Oh my goodness 49 and 73 for them Don't be wasting Bobby Witt Jr's career Fair
Starting point is 00:42:26 Don't be doing that Trade them to the twins Out West 62 and 60 for the Houston Astros. We used to call them inevitable. Then that one year where they didn't make the playoffs and then we forgot about their inevitability. They're still a year.
Starting point is 00:42:40 Two games up on the Texas Rangers who are 60 and 62. Seattle Mariners, I call it a love-hate relationship that I have with you, but I think I just hate you right now. There's no love. I'm trying. I've given you all of my love.
Starting point is 00:42:55 That's a Led Zeppelin song. Go check it out. 57 and 65 for them. 48 and 74-4. Swilly's Angels and 47 and 74 for whose A's A's who roots for the A's right now. I'm not really sure. Dallas Braden does. It was his birthday. Happy birthday. Happy birthday Dallas. In the American League wildcard, your Yanks got the first spot. Good for you guys. That's awesome.
Starting point is 00:43:18 Boston Red Sox with the second spot and the Detroit Tigers who sold at the deadline. Whoa. Our 60 and 61 a half game up for the last wildcard. spot Texas right behind Minnesota at one Cleveland at one and a half Toronto at two Baltimore two and even the hated mariners are three and a half games back those are the standings in the American media simply marvelous are we going to talk about this year like for the next decade right do you remember 2026 when you didn't even have to be good the last year baseball was ever played is how we'll talk might be you know
Starting point is 00:44:01 Yeah, so we'll have to. I am loathing the day that we have to start talking labor. I think you and me, I think we book a flight to Columbia. Yeah, man, the standings are, it's horrific. The Tigers are in the playoffs. They've been playing well, though. I'm not mad at them. I'm not either.
Starting point is 00:44:25 And Treve, I've, they're heading the right way. Before we do CBA stuff, who are the teams fighting for the best record? in baseball. It's the raise in the brewers. Nobody wants to have that combo. We talked about this a little bit. Detroit best, I believe they still have the best run differential.
Starting point is 00:44:46 Yes. That's a stat I hate in the American League. Yes. They're expected win loss. They're Pythagorean theorem win loss. I don't mess with that. Okay, remember that this team is 60 and 61. They're expected win loss.
Starting point is 00:45:03 win-loss is 70 and 51. I don't get it. Yeah, I mean, it's just a run differential, I think should be used as a compass of where the team can be heading. And that's where Detroit is heading. Like, the nerds got on me a little bit. I mean that with the,
Starting point is 00:45:22 we like nerds. I hate when you say nerds. And I just said it. You're rubbing off on me. You can say, yeah, I've been rubbing off on you. It's, if, it's like they always. talk about, well, if we simulated this season a thousand times, more likely
Starting point is 00:45:37 than not, this would be the record. I'm like, all right. I'm all in on the simulation. I got a great one going right now. Really crushing my sim. But like, it's not. We're not in. My sim character is debating turning off the game and starting over. That is such a lot. We went the wrong way.
Starting point is 00:45:56 I got it, okay, I got another dumb question for you. Fuck this episode. Tigers. Pythagorean theorem record. Let's say that the Tigers were 69 and 53 or whatever it is. They were the second team in the American League right now. They'd have a buy in the postseason. Would they have traded Scoobel?
Starting point is 00:46:20 Oh, shit. No, no. They couldn't be. The public outrage would have been too much for Harris. He nailed it. He is so happy. All of this happened. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:30 This is his sweet spot. Gave him the chance. They didn't do it. forced my hand to trade. Oh, and now we're competing. Yeah, you're right. That is like a GM's Infinity Stone. Like, look what I did.
Starting point is 00:46:44 That just, I don't know. If they get to the dance, which I think they are, they might even get a buy in the first round of the playoffs, which is insane because right now the White Sox have it. So if they catch them. Chase Midroth thinks differently. Yeah, White Sox kiddies this weekend, people, buckle up. Today's episode is sponsored by Gusto.

That's three months free payroll. Gusto.com slash talking. Let's do a little bit of this AL baseball. I think it starts with the Blue Jays and Red Sox. That's where we started.
Starting point is 00:47:54 The Red Sox that were streaking, they had an undefeated July. They then put up an L5, and part of that is from the Toronto. Blue Jays, who as I talked about, they did a buy-sell deadline. They're two games out of the postseason. So they're in this dance. They're fighting for their life. It's definitely they can't slip up, but they haven't slipped up. And they've got some new guys contributing.
Starting point is 00:48:22 And they've got hope, which if they can keep winning, they got two series with the Yanks coming up in their next three. They dominated the Yankees last year. the defending AL champs that are a drop ball away still have hope they still have hope they do the first game this series was the fourth out the you know went at 2-1 Red Sox get that one run on like a weird play where they didn't know how many outs to work check out Jimmy's breakdown on it if you know that rule masterpiece I did not know that rule okay I appreciate it makes sense when it gets explained
Starting point is 00:48:55 where it's like they couldn't they didn't um if you didn't know what happened. I guess we can get into it just quickly. First and third, one out. Scoreboard put two outs on the Jumbo Tron. It was the first pitch of the next at bat, hits a ball into center field. Runners run for the Red Sox like it's two outs. So the runner on third crosses home plate. They throw it to first base to double up inning over. Everyone's like, what the heck is going on? so because they didn't challenge the run at third base it's a they call it a timing play so you have to act like that run scored before the third out was made which technically did if you don't if you can't challenge it so even though there was zero tag everyone saw in the building they couldn't challenge it because they had left the field it becomes what they call fourth out timing play didn't know I never saw it happen coach in my life. Yeah, I'm, again, simple brain over here.
Starting point is 00:50:04 You could, it could make a lot more sense to me if the tag up was involved for the runner on third, but I, that part. You have to, you have to envision it like he did tag up because they didn't challenge it. You have to, you have to be able to appeal that. The umpires don't call it automatically. Okay. It's weird. I know.
Starting point is 00:50:23 It seems like it's a force out, so it shouldn't happen. It should almost be like a double play in my mind. but that's not what it is. So, anyways. Shout out Brett Bateman. I don't know if you're talking about him later. I'm not. I'm not.
Starting point is 00:50:37 If you don't know, they got him in the Cubs deal for Gossman. He's been playing some center field. I did a little dive on him today. You know, was having a really nice year in AAA. And again, that Cubs team that's got a loaded,
Starting point is 00:50:51 you know, loaded team. It didn't seem like they had a path for him. So that's who they get, one of the guys they get for Gossman. and he's provided a nice spark for the Blue Jays. Yeah, in the second game, RBI double, RBI single, John Snyder, I think this is a great quote. You never know when you're going to find a dude.
Starting point is 00:51:07 It's a handful of gains, but he has a potential of both his skills and the way he thinks the way you can adjust to be pretty damn good. That's if your manager says that about you, pretty stoked. Oh. Who was just yet, who was Miles Straw just yelling at? I forget. Oh, good question.
Starting point is 00:51:24 Because I can picture it. Was it a pitcher? It was a pitcher, yes. Always a pitcher. Was it this series? I think it was. Zach Wheeler. Rob says last previous season.
Starting point is 00:51:35 Oh, yeah, for being off of the mound. Off of the mound. So he's ornery right now. They all are. He has a nice eighth inning double off Seth Martinez for a little insurance run in that game two. Blue Jays win that one. They win the third game. Five run eighth inning for them.
Starting point is 00:51:52 Gotta love that. You get just kind of like small, You get intentional walk to Jimenez. You walk Clement to force and a run. Springer hits a sack fly. And then Miles Straw comes up again for them in that third game. So you're playing a little bit of this like past the baton, Blue Jay's offense. You got to love that.
Starting point is 00:52:13 He's just mad right now. Zach Wheeler got him in his bag. And then it was Peyton Tolly in game four because he's electric. I have really come around on Peyton Tolly. Payton Tolly's last two starts can basically go with anybody's last two starts this season. And, you know, 20 on the season, it's an amazing rookie year and it feels like he's peaking, which, hey, if these Red Sox make the dance, every year we talk about who's taking the pill and, you know, how well are they pitching right now?
Starting point is 00:52:44 You savage, obviously, a different story last year. But, you know, if the Sox make the dance and that guy's pitching, you don't want to see it right now because nobody knows what to do with it. Blue Jays, six and three in their last nine, 12 and 8 last 20, 11 of 16 overall. They're close in the wild card, a lot of contact, a lot of speed going on right now. And I love Rene Clement because he watched me play in AAA. They still need the big blasts, and if they can get a few of those and they can, they just need to keep them. Hey, you know what, that's not our game, Pa.
Starting point is 00:53:16 We're done with that. I know, but it was a sneaky part of their game. It was, hey, we're going to slap it around and then we'll hit the three run homer. which they're looking for a little bit. They got Yankees, raised, and Yankees. So I think in a week and a half, we'll know if Toronto is going to stay a part of this season. In Boston, I believe in momentum.
Starting point is 00:53:35 So build off that last game. Caleb Durbin, what a turnaround. Oh, yeah. Don't walk people in front of him. No need. I want to do it. Oh. That's so fun.
Starting point is 00:53:45 I mean, that is the ultimate AB. Someone walked in front of you and you hit a fucking grand slam. Look at this guy. I mean, that's cloud nine right there. It's my body. That's my body playing Major League Baseball. Tigers take two out of three. We talked about them a lot on the big picture.
Starting point is 00:54:06 And on the way through, I obviously shout out McGonagall and Cater. So I know Cater's your guy, Coach Trev. So I don't know what else you'd like to shout out here. I can't wait to see Tigers White Sox this weekend. I think that's going to be really, really good. Guardians kind of same situation. here. Hey, this series, the first game, Tigers hadn't beaten the Guardians. And they get that first win of the season against them, end up taking the series.
Starting point is 00:54:33 Foster Griffin, one run over five for the Guardians in game two. So you got to love that. A little deadline acquisition. He lost his previous last two starts. He was really bad for the nationals, 11 runs and 9 in the 3rd. So you'd like to see this version of him for the Guardians. but yeah Jose Ramirez I think we can go Jose Ramirez first time his his baseball card looks like a little different
Starting point is 00:55:01 obviously there was an injury it's in surgery and handmade bones stuff that could take a while yeah his last month it's going to be just as baseball reference pages baseball cards as we used to call them go interesting final month for him yeah that's so true right
Starting point is 00:55:17 and Cleveland didn't Cleveland do this last year weren't we ready to bury them? And then they had an undefeated September. So they're never out till they aren't. Quick Stephen Vote story. I went to a batting cage with Teddy yesterday. And I go in there.
Starting point is 00:55:35 There's one guy kind of running the show. I start talking to him. Indoor batting cage. Nice. Stephen Votes picture on the wall. And I go, like, how do you know Steve? And he goes, oh, I played in college with him. So we start talking.
Starting point is 00:55:49 And he goes, yeah, voter. he goes from the moment he got there a little 18 year old freshman uh he goes about five days in people start looking around are like is this guy running the team and i'm like that sounds like stephen felt nice yeah yeah man that's um is there a stephen vote right like stephen vote is the last player i remember playing that they were like he's going to be a manager everyone was shocked how quickly it happened uh megie rojas is a guy they talk about uh with that Kyle farmer was a guy. If you want to go catchers, everyone says Austin Hedges, but I think he's maybe a little too goofy. Although Stephen Votes Goofy as hell. Hewes goes to do intentional talk with Chris Rose
Starting point is 00:56:30 in the 80s. Maybe it's Hedges. Maybe that's the guy. I guess Hedges was my vote, but I didn't know if that was also like a vote connection, but in a way maybe that's just the answer. Okay. There's some analysis. Comment below, guys. Starting point is 00:57:23 Prescription required. See website for details, restrictions, and important safety information. Sildeneville is a generic version of Viagra. Viagra is a registered trademark of Vietris Specialty LLC. Hymns is not affiliated with or endorsed by Vietris. Go Yankees, Mariners, and I'll do twins. Go. I don't even want to talk about it.
Starting point is 00:57:37 Mariners are a little bit sad sacks right now. Yanks had a great comeback on the year. They're still not hitting it all. Again, obviously they put up 10 runs in that second game, but they were to get shut out in the, the last game and they were pretty close in the first one. They're waiting for the big bodies to come back. The pitching's impressive.
Starting point is 00:57:55 Like Rodon just had his last rehab start, so it's about to even... It's got a chance to be actually special. And as this, you know, you deal with us being Money Yankee fans. There's a chance if Judge can come back and look like Judge that, like, the hype can be real, especially in this American League. But yeah, watching day to days jarring. Like Lombards as exciting as a game. seeing our new toy.
Starting point is 00:58:21 The offense feels like it gets shut out through the first six innings of every game. Yeah, it's a lot of mixed emotions that actually that down three come back in the second game, the stadium went from like rowdy and pissy to like electric and having a blast. And Mariners, I don't know, it's the same speech. So they can figure it out or not.
Starting point is 00:58:43 I heard a rumor from someone that was at the game that Randy Rosarena really wants to be a Yankee. Tell me about Twins Orioles because nobody watched. He's a free agent. Do you guys even fucking sign free agents anymore? Used to. Trent Grisham's money comes off the books. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:59:03 Outfielder, outfit. I don't know. Need a righty. Go Twins, Go. They needed this series against the Orioles. They hadn't won one. They didn't want a series. That was their thing leading into the break.
Starting point is 00:59:14 They were winning every series. They were never sweeping, but they were getting the dubs. And then they hadn't won one since the break. They get this one against the Orioles. Kramer going against his old team. He's been fantastic for the twins. They think they might have found some stuff, him tipping pitches. Okay.
Starting point is 00:59:33 And a little arm angle adjustment. He's been great. Second game, Bailey Over kind of gets bit by the long ball, which can happen. He's been fine. He's kind of returned to the, we're going to give you a chance when I'm on the mountain type of guy, Bailey Over. He's fun to watch. If you haven't watched him pitch, he throws 88 miles an hour, and he's 16. whatever the hell he is, the nightmare.
Starting point is 00:59:55 And then it's a Royce Lewis game, game three. Him and Alan Rodin, big game. But Royce has been, he's back for the twins. He's hit in the middle of lineup. He's looked great. And I'm very happy for him because he took his medicine, went down in AAA, kind of had some really, he dominated in AAA, got his confidence back.
Starting point is 01:00:15 And he's been, you know, he came up with bottom of the lineup, but he's worked his way now back in third, fourth, depending on the day. Yeah, so we know what happened last night. They got their, they got beat pretty handily by the Phillies. So they're right there in the wild car, but still three games under 500. It's like they keep pushing on the gas pedal, but it's like it's not going fast. Not a lot of torque right now with the twins, if you will.
Starting point is 01:00:40 But they're hanging in there. Okay. I don't know, I think the last thing I want to hear about, shockingly, I have an Angels award coming later. And I think you have some Ray stuff coming. I guess from Reds White Sox, do you want to talk about the Sal Stewart hit by pitch at all? It seemed really bad, but Davis Martin had a good explanation for it. I mean, first of all, Davis Martin's been bad.
Starting point is 01:01:10 It was great. Correct. So is there a little bit of that going on right now? In the head, is he mad? Bad equals mad sometimes. He said he had a blister and couldn't really feel it. So he goes up and then, says, hey, I got a blister.
Starting point is 01:01:25 Sal Stewart's like, okay, no big deal. Then he throws the next pitch. Adam ends up hitting him. Sal Stewart, for context, hit a homer against him. And the first, you know, looked at it. But who cares? That's like part of the game now. I don't think he was trying to hit him.
Starting point is 01:01:39 Not in this type of ball game, right? I don't think so either. You're pitching so poorly that you don't, you don't just like put guys on base in a four three ball game. Yeah, I, you know, you'd have to dig through a little more history and that kind of stuff to see if there's any, anything else there. But no, man, I do think both players handled this really well. I mean, outside the pitcher.
Starting point is 01:02:01 Seth Stewart's fucking awesome, dude. South Stewart is awesome, dude. First ball over his head. And he looks at him kind of angrily at first. And then he sees that Davis Martin looks at him and is like, dude, I didn't mean to do that. And Sal Stewart gives him a thumbs up. Like, all right, dude, yeah, we're playing ball. Just like, politely, don't do it again. Don't throw a ball at my head again. What's he do? He throws a ball at his his head again. So then he screams at him, but he doesn't like actually charge at him. Sal Stewart's the man. Great for baseball. Yeah, and also, I believe, like leading the NL and runs driven in? Am I wrong about that?
Starting point is 01:02:37 Someone might have clipped him because he doesn't have the bold on his page. Let me see. I'm getting it right now. Stop. No, no, I lost it. I stopped because you said you had it. C.J. Abrams caught him. I knew that. No, he's had him, I think. But he's just, there we go. Yeah. Eighty-nine runs driven in in your rookie year. It's August 14th, people. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:03 That was a good, uh, we, we asked Boonee the other day. We're like, hey, are there any stats that are kind of out that you still are just a big believer in? And he's like, RBI. Like, when I was playing, RBI were really good. That was the goal. I do like, yeah, I mean, runs driven in great. Um, I do think frequency, like, I would say I'd rather have like, what do you do with runners in scoring position.
Starting point is 01:03:27 Nice. Because, you know, yeah, if you get hurt and all of a sudden you miss a month, your RBI numbers are going to be down. So the frequency, like rate stats, is that what they call them? I don't know. I'm more interested in that. When you have a nice big number, hell yeah, brother. Yeah, we kind of need to find a middle area between runners and scoring position
Starting point is 01:03:44 because the nerds tell us that's too small of a sample size to really matter. And then RBI as a total, it's an accumulation stat and you need guys in front of you and blah, blah, blah. But, yeah, we've debated an RBI percentage stat. We looked into a couple things. Do you get the guy in, runners on third base less than two outs? Do you get them in?
Starting point is 01:04:08 Right. Because that is a skill. That matters. It matters. We've kind of been told it doesn't. Treve, I think we hop over to the second half of the show because a couple things will get clipped along the way there. And it starts with standout performances.
Starting point is 01:04:23 It's time. Five, four, standout for Standout performances. Stand out performances. This guy stood out for Trev. Say, what? It's a pitcher Friday, and that should be scary. I just have to get one.
Starting point is 01:04:43 Why don't you go first? Wow. No, I'm good. I'm good. I found it. I found it. I found it. This is my, I'm giving the hot.
Starting point is 01:04:50 Where is she? Hot boy pitcher. Standout. We just went, Dean Kramer, who's been fantastic. He goes sevennings pitch, one hit, one walk, seven Ks against the former team. I always like giving that award. Oh, okay. Or standout because you're like, hey, F you guys, you know.
Starting point is 01:05:14 And we have to be so nice to him because you were so mean to him. So I think I'm just continuing to apologize through my gratitude or my, you know, I'm just showing him love because you were mean. Braxton Ashcraft, complete games, nine innings, pitch, 10, Ks, how many pitches? 85? Are you out of your mind? 85 is crazy.
Starting point is 01:05:37 Like, that seems like that doesn't happen very often. Complete game, 85 pitches with 10 Ks to boot. Got to love that. And then I'm also going to give a little bit of love to Cade Kvali. So all my hot boys. 8 in a pitch 10Ks, no earned runs, and it's his birthday today, so shout out. Nice.
Starting point is 01:06:00 Is that a double man bun situation? Did Cavali have one? No, I don't think he's got a man bun, but he's got like a F boy haircut. Okay. And I think Ashcraft has had a man bun also. Okay. So wait, did you just give it to three pitchers?
Starting point is 01:06:18 Yeah, yeah. Cheese and biscuits. You ever heard of that? Oh, and Trev, we're all shocked. that you gave it to Dean Kramer, Brax and Ashcraft, and Cade Cavalley. Look at you, pal. Southern boys.
Starting point is 01:06:34 And, okay, I'll go. I'm giving it to Luis Castillo and Yuri Perez. Why are we doing all pitchers? I don't know. Sometimes you and I stumble into a pitcher Friday, and I think it's our, like, sacrifice to the gods. Yeah, I wanted to double dick here. A, Luis Castillo in that White Sox Red series,
Starting point is 01:06:54 he makes his second start and what does he do a bob now what is that he does whatever he wants dude he's louis castillo he cut the dreds am i going crazy no it looks like he cut him yeah looks like a trim looks like a trim job well rob did he challenge right there yeah he did dude he's louis castillo uh seven innings 10 strikeouts only one hit that was in the first inning uh i believe he had his most swing and misses on the season by a lot. 22 swings and misses, which that's a big boy number. The most by a White Sox pitcher this season. The most by a White Sox pitcher since Garrett Crochet against the 24 Rockies.
Starting point is 01:07:39 Go check out what that team did. Go check out what Crochet has done. And I'm not taking a victory lap on this now. You and I, Trev, we landed on this and we were like, yeah, we obviously loved the Luis Castillo trade. The White Sox added Luis Castillo. I don't care that he hasn't been great for Seattle. They added Luis Castillo. There's a lot of people that were like, well, his money and his performance. And we can't take a lap on it yet. I just like that they added this guy. And he showed why in his second start that he might be their game one starter for them.
Starting point is 01:08:13 I just got, he like fell off the mound right there. And I'm like, okay, that reminds you to something. Then I was like, it's Freddie Garcia. who also went from the Mariners to the white socks. Whoa. And then, because I actually, I forgot, this should be exciting for the people. Freddie Garcia has a 34 career award. Are you kidding me?
Starting point is 01:08:36 Freddie Garcia was nasty. I did not like seeing him on the mound as an opposing team. I liked in early fantasy baseball days. Give me some Freddie Garcia. Nice 2011 for you guys. Yeah, absolutely. We cheer for guys and pinstripes. Originally, I was going to have one of these two as my award,
Starting point is 01:08:56 but I forgot I locked in an award on Monday or Tuesday night. That also Yuri Perez deserves a shoutout. I was going to give them the Who's the Big Fish Award because we talked about Max Meyer a lot this year. We've talked about Sandy Alcantara a lot this season. Yuri Perez has been out of his mind recently. since May, since he's gone on a hot streak. Fourth best starting pitcher ERA in baseball.
Starting point is 01:09:25 Six foot eight. Trev, not a guy you want to see on the bump. I still have Marlon stock. I think they can enter the dance. And if they enter the dance, this guy is going to be on the mound. And I don't think your team can hit this guy. Love me some Yuri Perez. Let me dig up one last stat on him that I did have a Marlins,
Starting point is 01:09:50 Pirates, sorry pirates. Oh, okay, so his last 11 starts, he has a 182 ERA. Is that good? That's good. The light bulb's gone off. Career high for 21 starts this season and innings pitched. And yeah, I did a little prospect digging, because if you remember he was a big prospect, literally and figuratively.
Starting point is 01:10:10 203, he was the number 13 overall prospect. The only pitchers ahead of him, Grayson Rodriguez and Andrew Painter Prospects, man. It's a weird game. It's a weird game. Trev, I feel bad for all the hitters. We got roped into these pitchers
Starting point is 01:10:30 that it could have been Nolan Aronado. It could have been Luis Camp Usano. Taylor Walls had a two ding-dong game. So did Trent Grisham, Jared Triolo. I'm hoping that some of these guys are showing up on Enfuego. Dirt Nasty's on Fuego. That means I'm on fire, baby.
Starting point is 01:10:49 Like wake-o. It's time for Enfuego, powered by Amazon. Just like Amazon helps you get maximum value out of every dollar this back-to-school season. We're talking about the players who have been delivering maximum value on the field. I just sent a text to this first guy, and he already got back to me. Whoa. Alex Bregman. Whoa.
Starting point is 01:11:11 What he said? Lose this number. Fuck, Jake. No, he didn't. I didn't text them at all. I didn't. imagine that's what he would say. Chicago, Alex
Starting point is 01:11:21 Bregman, five for ten in the series. Four of those bad boys were Jimmy Jacks, eight runs driven in. Three-homer game on Wednesday became the first player in Cubs history to walk twice or more in a three-homer game. So, love
Starting point is 01:11:37 that for him. Bregman and Dansby Swanson became the first NL teammates since runs driven in, runs driven in, became an official stat in 1920. to each have a three homer seven RBI game in the same season. A couple of guys playing left side of the infield. Gotta love that.
Starting point is 01:11:58 I had a bartender last night. I went to Peddler's Fork with Robbie, and he's a big Cubs fan and says he listens to our show, so shout out. Thank you. Yandi Diaz, six for 14, 429, average two homers four runs driven in for the race. He's been struggling a little bit.
Starting point is 01:12:17 And now he's kind of back in the fold, raise. You're going to hear a lot more about them later. Mike Trout. Hello, Mike. Seven for 15, four runs driven in, posted back-to-back three hit games for the first time since he did three straight. May 4th through the 6th in 2018. Back-to-back three-hit games is nice. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:37 Real nice. And he hosted a bunch of people at his new golf course Trout National. You and I were not part of that. God, we're a step away, Treve. We're step away. close. You know Joe Mowers in the cat program? I didn't know that.
Starting point is 01:12:52 Yeah, he is. Okay. I mean, Joe put a good word in for me one time. Be nice. Zat Gailoff, shout out. You guys have not been seen in the same room together either. Five for 12, a double, two homers, three runs driven in. This was his first three games since coming off of the IL, Jake.
Starting point is 01:13:11 Hadn't played since July 9th due to his right knee injury. Come back. How's a nice series to start? Love that for Zivis. Zach, you made it on Inflago. Congratulations. How about for the week, though? Because this is where you really want to be on.
Starting point is 01:13:23 Jack Caglione, your guy. Definitely have seen you and him in the same room together. 12 for 24. Three doubles, three homers, three runs driven in. One of them against Scoobel. Got to love that. Trent Grisham. Yankee for life.
Starting point is 01:13:36 Nine for 24, four doubles, three homers, seven runs driven in. Avamelik Ortiz. Okay. Seven for 18. Three homers. seven runs driven in a B. Melek. I got to find out more about this guy. The pronunciation's on there. It's tough for me. The Ascento's on the B.
Starting point is 01:14:00 Listed 510, 2 Cherty. Four homers and 11 games this season. Hit 3.89 with three homers and seven runs driven in during that homestine. Jackson Merrill, we've been talking about them. Eight for 23. Three homers, eight runs driven in since the break. 25 runs driven in leads all of majorly baseball also since the break only two players in majorly baseball have a 340 average or a 1 dot ops it's jackson merrill and who jacob young couple of guys that can go get it okay how about josh bell though yeah also you and him in the same room no doubt about it he's a big boy 10 for 28 two homers seven runs driven he's been on a heater you know both sides
Starting point is 01:14:41 of the plate got a funny swing uh but gets the barrel to the ball and when he does look out because He's got power, Jake, and those guys, that's who's in Fuego. Thanks to our partners at Amazon, shop back to school at Amazon, and spend less on your kids. Josh Bell, that's another good baseball card to bring up, man. Just a 113 career OPS plus. Just every year. He's got that one 2019.
Starting point is 01:15:10 A couple guys have those 2019 outlier years. Otherwise, he's just been steady. Some switch hitting contract. contributions. And I've heard, and I believe you can confirm, all-time nice guy. Josh Bell? Yeah. Great guy.
Starting point is 01:15:29 Great guy. Like, all-world guy. Originally, I've shared this before. That was the scouting report. My auntie and uncle Rick, who go to the Pittsburgh Pirates spring training games when he was coming up. befriended his parents. Pretty nice.
Starting point is 01:15:43 Nobody cares, Jake. Let's do the sad part of the show. we do batters who are struggling and guys who are hurt. Hey man. You've been struggling. It's time to pick it up. This great game comes for everyone. And on the week, it starts with two amazing catchers.
Starting point is 01:16:01 Dylan Dingler and William Contreras, both in one for 25s. Golly. That's nuts. Contreras dropped in the lineup because it's Pat Murphy's world. We just live in it. I'll bank on all those guys ending up on Enfuego before the year ends. J.J. Blodd. Trade rumor stays in Sinci won for 22.
Starting point is 01:16:22 J.T. Real Mudo had the best month of 2026 in July, and now he's in a two for 21. New Yankee, Elliot Ramos, is in a four for 36, has a little bit of a bad case of the groundouts right now. That'll change. Dalton Varshot, new face, new place. 25% of his swings in play on pitches 95 miles per hour greater this season. That's the lowest in his American. American League. Spencer Horwitz. Nice guy. Like him. Five for 36. Struggling with the inside ball. We got drills for that. And then Wyatt Langford.
Starting point is 01:16:58 Five for 42. That's a 119 batting average. So, hey, again, some studs on this list. We'll get him off struggling and on to Fuego. The I.L. Worst segment of the show. Nathan Avaldi, right elbow. Uh-oh. Do not like that. Devin Williams, right shoulder fatigue. hoping for two to three weeks. Don't like that. Daniel Seussack, out for the season left knee. Hate that.
Starting point is 01:17:24 Kyle Stowers, left Hamie, three to four weeks. That could be tight. Jameson-Tyone, right forearm, scare. Hopefully it stays a scare. Two to three weeks minimum. Riley Greenwright, Hammy.
Starting point is 01:17:38 That could be big for Detroit going forward. Kyle Caro's concussion, we hate that. James Outman, the same. Andy Rodriguez, a left hip, and Garrett Whitlock goes on the aisle with right elbow. So let's see what that means. An important part of that Boston bullpen. As you mentioned, off the IL, Zach yell off. Mike Soroka, my guy.
Starting point is 01:18:00 Nick Lodolo for the Reds. Adley Rushman in Boston. Blake Snell for the Dodgers, your guy David Morgan in San Diego, and the buck stops here, Byron Buxton. Hip looks could running hard. Let's start everyone's weekend the right way. Does it get better than Kelsey Wingard? I don't think it does.
Starting point is 01:18:23 I just got a word that she's not going to be there for our next warehouse tournament. Yeah, the sideline reporter is going to freak you out a little bit. I already know who it is because he reached out to me. Yeah. We'll see how that goes. Yeah, because he's also, I think, a coach for us. And he was debating playing yesterday as we were at the warehouse. More warehouse coming in a second.
Starting point is 01:18:45 Oh, my, I'm not ready. I did order some sticks. Nice. I'm trying to practice. I could see Teddy having like a niche little hockey side. I am just biting my time in the warehouse until I can hand the franchise over to Teddy. Yeah, same.
Starting point is 01:19:02 It's going to be a bidding war. What's your award, Treb? I am going to give a, the Expedition Award. Okay. Now, you know, say what you want about our country. past. You know, a lot of people get up in arms about it. It's the past. It happens. Sometimes you just got to talk about it.
Starting point is 01:19:22 Early on, you know, we settle across the eastern seaboard and we start to move west as you know, more and more people come over. We started to discover, hey, a lot of fertile land out there. Some people are living, you know, and there's battles and there's all these things. That's
Starting point is 01:19:38 pretty much every country's history. That's the truth. But we started to send expeditions. And if you really think about it, we had No idea. These people living in, you know, the 1840s, whatever it was, no idea how far west this continent went. Like, what was over there? Like, were there dinosaurs? I don't know. Like, a lot of things could have happened. You just start traveling one way with no map, no, nothing. You're the person supposed to make the map and blaze a trail. Sneaky quick ad here, went to Toronto a couple weekends ago with a former roommate Jeff and I was he's a history guy I was like hey did tarant did Canada have a whole go west movement too he's like yeah and they like did bad shit like yeah every every country did no doubt about I'm not even talking about that okay I'm talking about a couple guys um
Starting point is 01:20:33 John Fremont is a guy that was um tasked to kind of head west and and see yeah just how far we could we could go James Polk was a polarized president for us wanted to expand big time into it sends john fremont but this guy that i want to talk about his name is kit carson end up getting um linking up with john fremont like kind of like halfway through the travels well they end up crossing the rockies like kind of like blazing the organ trail they get up into like upper parts of um california go down california to the mojave desert right so you think like okay, they did it. They made it all the way to California.
Starting point is 01:21:19 They got to the Pacific freaking ocean, dude. But then guess what? You got to go back. You got to go back. You got to go back, dude. You don't have to. You don't have to. If you want to give.
Starting point is 01:21:32 There's no telegrams at this point. You got to go back and talk to the president about what you found, dude. It's kind of exciting, though. I don't know if it is, Jake. Like hit that natural spring again that was cool in college. Colorado. I don't know. I think you're kind of going a different route a little bit there. Anyways, this guy, Kit Carson. I'll get to my ward in a sec. I just want to talk about that. It's kind of crazy. Goes through the Mojave Desert, like, running out of water because it's a desert. Yeah. Ends up meeting up with the like American military who's like waging a war on like the Mexico who like owned California at the time. Had it really settled it or done anything. They just like. had it by paper ends up meeting with the military
Starting point is 01:22:21 and the guy's like, hey, you're going back with us. He gets like into Arizona and like, you know, you're going back with this. Kickars is like, dude, I'm trying to get to D.C. Nope, sorry.
Starting point is 01:22:31 Has to go back and lead this army through the desert again. He's like, this kind of sucks. Whatever. Ends up making it back, delivers the message. And that's a little history lesson for you. Go read up on it.
Starting point is 01:22:45 It's kind of just really crazy to think about going west and having no idea where you're going, how you're going to get there. On foot, by the way. Yeah. They were going like 26, like a marathon a day. Think about that. That's insane.
Starting point is 01:23:01 Anyways, you know who else had a crazy perilous trip out west and came up successful as well? Praying it's a baseball player. Kind of just did that. the same route through the Rockies up into Sacramento. It is our Tampa Bay Rays.
Starting point is 01:23:23 Who went 9-0 in a West Coast trip. That doesn't happen very often at all. There was another 9-0 road trip early on this year, which is kind of crazy. The Red Sox went 9-0 against the Angels, Mariners, and the A's.
Starting point is 01:23:43 Oh, excuse me. there was a nine-game winning treat earlier it was the angels the white socks and the met's a nine and no west coast swing from an east coast team had been done since 1977 that was also boston they went angels mariners a's in that one but the the rays are just playing insane baseball now and a lot of people are this one guy said to me on youtube uh you left the comment on our baseball today he goes how come all the media says nobody talks about the raise enough and then doesn't talk about the raise. I'm like, that's kind of, that makes a lot of sense. We always say that. We are the media. We should be talking about the raise. Hence why I'm giving
Starting point is 01:24:20 this award. Now, they made some, a big trade deadline acquisitions, went out and got fastball Freddie, who like started to look good in his second start towards the end. They believe they got more in him. Tyler Wells is a guy that came over solidifying the bullpen. Liam Hicks has elongated the lineup but the way they're doing it we used to talk about the rays the way we talk about the freaking brewers yeah they can beat you in a bunch of different ways yes we have top a top heavy kind of like power of the lineup there as we mentioned yondi dia is starting going again yondi jonathan randa junior cannero that's awesome you bring in louisa rise um excuse not louisa rise we wanted them to bring louisa rise you put chandler simpson up there he's been going
Starting point is 01:25:07 So you're getting a bunch of guys that are getting on base. We're moving runners over. We're bunting all the freaking time. We're hitting sack flies. We're essentially just we're passing the baton in this offense. They're playing incredible defense. We're talking about their bullpen being great. The starting pitching being great.
Starting point is 01:25:26 This is a formidable team that we're just not giving enough credit to. We're not. A 9-0 road trip. And I don't put a ton of stock into going west on an East Coast trip. I don't, what does that matter, dude? Like, you're young. I would, I would strongly disagree with you. I think that little, you, I never had a problem with that.
Starting point is 01:25:45 You have a problem going west. The time zone affects you? I think a little bit. I genuinely do. I think that little extra travel. I think your body is playing 10 p.m. games instead of 7 p.m. games. I think it matters. Insane.
Starting point is 01:25:59 I don't. You're young and have all the adrenaline in the world. You're playing a game where millions of dollars are at stake. I think your body just takes over for you. That's my. Here's a crazy, here's a crazy stat for the race. In games where they score four runs or fewer, they're 29 and 37.
Starting point is 01:26:20 That's a 439 winning percentage, right? It's kind of crazy. The other 29 teams in baseball, when they score four runs or fewer, you want to guess what the winning percentages? 3.48. 285. That right there, winning those types of. of games is how you have the best record in baseball.
Starting point is 01:26:42 It's why we should be talking about them. They lead Major League Baseball in two-out hitting. 268 with a 762 OPS on this trip with two outs. They went 36 for 112. That's 321 average of 1.0.0.0 on this trip. Like this is a team that does things in a different way. They're fun. We used to talk about them in such a like a,
Starting point is 01:27:08 Lustful is not the right word I'm looking for. We yearned for more teams to play like the race. Rays are doing it. We need to get back to that. This is the coaching tree. It came from the raise. The front office tree. It came from the raise.
Starting point is 01:27:23 They're doing it again. They are formidable. They're not some punchy little team that's surprising everyone. This is a team that wants to beat the shit out of you. And you know what? It's not all about big slug. Sometimes they're going to jiu-jitsu your ass and submit you on the mat as well. It's Kit Carson. It's Kevin Cash. Expedition Award goes to the Tampa Bay race.
Starting point is 01:27:48 Nobody better. Nobody better to bring that to us. You get fired up right there a little bit. You sure did. People should go check out Chandler Simpson splits. He's been playing out of his dome. And yeah, man, you know, all this talk. Catchers don't get traded and it's so rare if they do, like, well, Liam Hicks got traded. And since he's gone, he's been one dotting for them in eight games. Like, that matters. Victor Mesa Jr. providing some pop and some defense for them.
Starting point is 01:28:18 You're right, man. They're kind of nasty. They show up at the ballpark and they want to kick your ass. And not a lot of teams can keep up that energy. But they do. And yeah, the talking Yankee land right now is like, can we catch those guys? They got a four game set with them the second last series of the year. And I don't know.
Starting point is 01:28:39 I don't know. The race control it, and they're good, man. Like, I don't, it's tough to picture the way they play, the way they pitch, the way they defend. It's tough to picture that slipping up. I know a lot of stuff happens in this sport. They're really good. We talk about the Phillies.
Starting point is 01:28:58 To your point right there, now they can go ice cold as an offense, and they don't really have the speed and the contact to overcome that. Like, if they're not hitting homers or getting the big, hit, they are not winning. This team, teams like this, through 162. Now, I know it gets different in the playoffs. You need to bop in the playoffs. I understand that. But through 162, teams like this
Starting point is 01:29:22 are always, the Brewers are another shining example of it as well, but this is the OG Brewers people. Don't forget that. Oh, that Brewers' Ray's World Series, the cuts to Manfred in the stands. Crying, just bawling his eyes out. Oh, my God. Baseball is back.
Starting point is 01:29:40 Uh, Trev, that was about a 13 minute award and history lesson. So I was that really? Proud. I don't know if it was, it was close. It was close. Well done. Rob? I got over, yeah, I got 14 minutes.
Starting point is 01:29:56 Wow. Started at one, started at 115. Incredible. Yeah, we were, I was like, wow, this is going to be a tight up. You dropped, you dropped it on them. And I'm glad you did. I'll be a little high and tight. And it's where these awards somehow started.
Starting point is 01:30:13 I'm going to give out the C in the Warehouse Award. You mentioned we have our warehouse. If you're someone who's never checked it out, you should. It's just a really fun thing. Chris Rose in the booth, Peter Moyland for Blitzball. We do floor ball hockey. That's coming up. We're filming that.
Starting point is 01:30:28 We do a version of cricket, ball and play. It's a ton of fun. We just had our Blitzball finale drop. Again, go check it out. It's amazing content. The time and effort. that our editors and social team and Jimmy and everyone puts into it. It's a one-of-one place, and it's just a magical little thing we got going on.
Starting point is 01:30:48 Chris Rose had to leave because there was a snowstorm coming, so I hopped in the booth for the final call. Top common is my final line. I don't know. Some people said they're going to remember it forever. I wish I was on the field playing anyways. A Dalton Feely, our stats guy on the field. Trev, it's a modern version of wiffle ball.
Starting point is 01:31:07 Blitzball, if, you know, maybe you've seen it, maybe you haven't. And yeah, it's cool to see, and it's been part of our company now for a while. And, yeah, we're starting to see, like, there's a couple guys in the league that grew up playing Blitzball. And the first one to make it was Wade Meckler. And I remember, I was like, who the hell is this guy? Who the hell is Wade Meckler playing for the Giants? And some of these Blitzball guys, we follow. I was like, they were like, oh, my God, a blitzball play.
Starting point is 01:31:40 made it to the majors. He just, think about this. This guy played so much baseball that he went to Oregon State, baseball powerhouse. He went to, you know, gets drafted, plays pro ball, makes it through the minor leagues, makes it to the majors. This guy loves baseball so much. He was also playing blitzball in his spare time.
Starting point is 01:32:02 Hey, I've got some extra minutes. Why don't me and the boys fire up some blitzball? That's how much this guy loves ball. 5-9 buck 90 He got called up with the Giants in 2023 Didn't go great Guess what? He got called up by the halos this year
Starting point is 01:32:20 In 64 games He's hitting 303 A 371 on base A 776 OPS That's a 123 OPS plus And he put on a show the other night Bring up the robbery, Bob And put the broadcast audio
Starting point is 01:32:36 Yep Seeger with a high fly ball to right Meckler moves back forward He's out near the wall, and it is caught. Meckler got strikes again. You cannot contain the mech. The mech is the man. Why by the mech?
Starting point is 01:32:57 Up and over the wall. I mean... Just incredible. The look on the reliever's face, who's ass he saved, I think that was Saucito, who just saw his ERA instead of going up. you know, 11 points. It goes down a decimal point. This was a 1-1 game in the 7th.
Starting point is 01:33:18 The Texas Rangers trying to make the postseason. And here's the MEC robbing $300 million world series MVP, Corey Seeger jumping over the wall in L.A., which you can't tell if it's a home run or not, which that kills the robbery a little bit. We need to change that. But MF and Wade Meckler out here is just grinding and putting up a really nice season,
Starting point is 01:33:41 26 years old. I don't know, man. He's got a feeling of one of these like Brock Holt types that could just stick around and contribute for a long time in the major leagues. Because here's what I do know. If he's going to have a chance to play, I think Wade Meckler's going to play. Because the dude, while grinding to become a pro baseball player,
Starting point is 01:34:00 was out there playing Blitzball in the backyard. Shout out Wade Meckler. I mean, when you spend two full year, debut in 2023, then you spend two full years in the minor leagues, lot of guys start to give up and like, okay, I don't know what, am I going to be a career minor league guy? I'm not really sure. Then he gets his chance here and still like decently young, 26. Who knows, man? Getting a chance for the angels putting this up. Keep going, big dog. I love stories like this. Love it. I do too. Go check out Wade Meckler. Go check out our warehouse
Starting point is 01:34:36 games. Go check out the championship game and everything we do there. And thank you guys so much. I hope your team wins this weekend. I really do, unless they're playing my team. We'll see you guys Monday. Heart of the Dog Days. Who's the Yankees got? My Yankees, they're playing the Blue Jays. It's a big ALEC's couple weeks.
Starting point is 01:35:02 The Rays have Orioles, J's Orioles, the Yankees. So ALEs could have some shuffling coming up. Was Joe Mower using my glove to play catch with his son yesterday at the field of Drenas game. Yes, he was. Roger Clemens and Cody. That's on Monday. It's on Monday.
