Treve a lot of a a lot of young dudes get an opportunity, but not the guys, you know? Like injury season is here, or underperforming guys, guys getting a second look on a new team that, I don't know, a couple guys jumped out in the box score. I think you're talking about a couple later.

Pittsburgh and the Dodgers, my goodness, that series was out of control. Because it's Friday, I think we should start in the National League. And we do have to tell the people, you know, normally shot out Bobby Golf, Stalton Feely on the sheet. Our guy Z-man, Zach Esposito's on the ones and twos today. And that gets Trevor and I just a little rowdier

because we almost kill them once. We did kill him. He is the John Snow of John Boy Media. Except a little hotter. I don't know about that. Happy to be here. Happy to have you, Z. Thank you.

Let's do some National League baseball. And it wouldn't be the National League without the Chicago White Sox, more so playing the Atlanta Braves for three games. Make it too. We've got a rain out. We'll see you in August. And in those two games, the Chicago White Sox. They called up Braden Montgomery.

There's going to be some trade connections this episode. From the Crochet Trade, how's your debut? You, walk off Homer, good quote from him. He said, I think it's only down from here. It's kind of true, pal. Fought off Matt Olson's two homers. He was in a big trade once. And then Davis Martin, how's your Cy Young Sprinkle?

Shuts down the Bravos. They lose a series. Will they get swept? We'll find out in Augusto. I mentioned the Dodgers and the Pirates. Holy cow. The Dodgers have a 10-run seventh inning after Paul. Skinesz exits the game.

Andy Pahez, we've been talking about him a lot this year. We're going to talk about him more. Freddie Freeman? That's a lot of career hits. Pirates, a dramatic game, too. Shohei Otani, my guy against Jared Jones, your guy. And, man, there was everything. Tyler Callahan's going to get a shout out.

Shohei hit a homer. He gets pulled late with an injury. Dodgers end up taking the set in that final game. Tanner Scott closes it down. Wild one. Speaking of wild ones. Welcome to Las Vegas baseball, baby. Brewer's 15, A's 14, and 12 innings.

I mean, America's coach, America's manager, I should say. Pat Murphy said it's the most bizarre game he's ever seen in his life. The third most homers in a three-run set. ever in baseball history. And the A's, they show Vegas what's coming as they take down the mighty, mighty brewers in their new digs, kind of, not really. Fernando! The Padres take two out of three, and they do it with a little bit of dramatic fashion in that final game. A Fernando Tattis walk out with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, getting him back in that,

Homer game. Also, you know Trev loved this. The first game that they won, three consecutive bunts. T.J. Antone, go easy on my guy. But, oh, that's weird. Kind of worked. Padres, they take two out of three from Cincinnati, who is scuffling. The Miami Marlins, God damn it. They get me hype, but I hate that it was against my Diamondbacks. The Marlins get the three games sweep and they shut them out in the final two games. Ryan with a little gusto. And then you know Xavier Edwards and Otto Lopez were everywhere, because those guys are absolute studs.

Marlins, back in the mix. The Washington Nationals are maybe the most fun team in baseball. And they continue to win. They win these first two games, C.J. Abrams, driving in runs. Luis Garcia Jr. with the two-run homer and the Nationals breaking it open late. But Trevin, game three,

they got the broom sticks out. It's 9-1 Natitude, baby. Uh-uh. The Giants with maybe the craziest comeback of the year. Matt Chapman with back-to-back homers. And then Bryce Eldridge, that 6-7 MFer with the tight pants, sends it into the drink. Dramatic, kind of doesn't matter.

Rockies take two out of three from the Cubbies. Cubbies, what is we doing? They get down to 500 after the Rocks win the first two games. Sterling Thompson with the walkoff. Nice to meet you, pal. Welcome to the show. The Cubbies, they win that final game, keeps them above 500. Make sure you check out the standings.

But Cubbies, whoa. And then your final series in the National League, The St. Louis Dirty Birds. They take two out of three from the New York Metropolitan's. Dustin May snaps his winless streak. Jordan Walker's a stud. Mets and Soto salvage it.

Still, even though the White Sox gave them the business. 45 and 23, the Atlanta Braves are there eight games above the Philadelphia Phillies who are 37 and 31? The Nats. How about it? Above 500 on June 12th? Love it. Natitude, baby.

35 and 34 for them. The Marlins, 34 and 34. and 35 and the Mets who were supposed to win this division according to Jolly Olive. Stop. He said it on this show. It wasn't. Him and Jeff Pass and sir. Preseason.

Tough for them. 30 and 38 for the Mets in the Central, the Brew crew. Of course, we knew it was going to happen, Jake. 41 and 45 for them. They're four games above your St. Louis Cardinals who are 37 and 29 and just continue to win series. Okay. The Cubs, as you mentioned, one game above 500, same as the Pirates, 35 and 34.

And the Reds kind of fallen back, man. 32 and 35 for them. And then out west, the Dodgers, 44 and 25. Eight games up on the Padres, who I don't know. I still don't know what to make of them. Is Fernando going to get hot? I got another guy that, for my standout, love them. 35 and 32 for them.

Your snakes, 34 and 34. Dalton snakes, excuse me. dead even at 34 and 34 and then the Giants 28 and 41 and then your Rockies 26 and 43. How many National League teams do you have? What's the question? You have three National League teams. Oh, like do I have? I thought you were talking to the league for it.

Trev, I think this first one can be a little high and tight because it is two games, although it's two teams that have been part of the story of this season. It's the Atlanta Braves, who have been the best team in baseball throughout

and winning basically every series they play in, except this one, to the Chicago White Sox who move into first place in your AL Central. And just a reminder, like, the White Sox, not only did they start off, They started six and 13, and we're like, yeah, it's probably going to be another White Sox season. They've won seven straight at home. They're 18 and 3 in their last 21. First place in the first time since 2021, the regular season finale. Like, Trev, it's the White Sox are here and it feels real.

And there's new enforcement joining the team. Braden Montgomery, or just doing Montgomery's. Montgomery's. Random player generated. in Chicago. Yeah. Brady Montgomery, big prospect comes up,

hits the walk-off. We all kind of know the story by now. Opposite field. An incredible first game for him. He's, I watched an interview.

He said, you know, they asked him, like, what can we expect of you as a player? This must have been in the off season. He said,

well, I bring some like electricity, like, you know, big moments. Yeah. How about it? We're in number 24, by the way, Jake.

Oh. All the greets do. Ah. Okay. It's fun out there, man. I've been giving the White Sox credit because I do think up and down that lineup is, it's pretty long, it's pretty good. They're doing this without Murakami right now.

We know what he brings when he's in the fold. But really, it has been that starting pitching. I mean, the second game, you hear Chris Sale versus Davis Martin. And that's before the season, you probably wouldn't have that as one of the better pitching matchups than all the baseball. But it was. And Dave's Martin out duels Chris. sale. So they have it on both fronts right now. And, and there is a little bit of mojo.

I will say that, man. There truly is. And, and, uh, we haven't seen the south side fans in a couple years, man, because they went away because it's stunk. I would have. When that team is good, it's so much fun to play there. It's scary to play there. And they're, they're showing up right now. I mentioned I was going to, there's going to be some trade connect the dots talk this episode, because Bray to Montgomery is one of the final pieces from the crochet trade. as Boston gets more bad news on Crochet. He's not really sure what's going on with that massive back of his. Chase Midroth, your guy, 21 game on base streak.

Whoops, climbing the ladder of AL second baseman this year. Brandon Montgomery is in that trade, along with Kyle Teal, who hasn't really been a part of this season, even though go look at what he did last year. Like when he is, he's got a real chance. So if you're going to trade a guy like crochet, you better get some return on that. They're starting to feel it. And Davis Martin, I've said this a couple episodes now.

A.L. Cy Young, if you think that Schlittler can't get to the finish line, which, A, the Yankees are probably going to limit his innings at some point. B, one bad start can change how your whole season looks. Go ask Kyle Harrison out in Vegas. Pretty brutal, dude. Davis Martin has been nothing but good this year and you can still get him at a crazy number if you want to believe in it

9 and 2 record on the year that still that matters to me and yeah I saw him he one of his last, it might have been his last out of the game he just freezes a guy in a backdoor cutter because if you have that access stuff working he's like when it I think Trev if you're a pitcher that can throw 94

if you don't have that 98 in the chamber, have a two seamer that goes 94, have a cutter that goes 90, and you got the basics. You can get through with that. I think you're going to be talking about a guy later in the episode that does something very similar. Yeah, I mean, it's just, I talk about it all the time.

It's, if you have pitches that, I said this about Nolan McLean, actually, and I really haven't really kept up on what he's doing this year. I think he's doing, he's had some good starts and bad starts. But if you have pitches that look just different out of the hand, even if they're nasty, it's like as a hitter, like, all right, great. Like I can pick it up. I can cheat to one or whatever it is. But when you have all those fastballs kind of coming out of the same spot and then it is kind of shoot different directions, one even goes kind of rides up.

It's, it makes it really difficult for it. You might put your barrel or you might put the bat to it, but it's not going to be on the barrel. A lot of soft contact. So White Sox for real, Braves front, you know, they're fine. they know they're going to make the playoffs, but Acuna coming out, hamstring, strain. He's dealt with a lot of leg stuff before. You know, that you should be okay. I just hope it doesn't make him hesitant, you know.

Yeah. When they need a swipe from later in the year. It's oddly becoming normal, which is bad. Matt Olson, two homer game, which I said a lot of trade talk this episode, Coach Trev, March 14th, 2022. him for Shea Langa Lears, which that's working out a little bit. Joey Estes, who's twirled the pill for them a little bit. Christian Pashae was in that trade as well.

And yeah, dude, Matt Olson makes $22 million a year, which just feels like insanity because he plays every game. He's awesome. You know what? I haven't put this together. He's got a little John Hamm in him. Oh, okay. I can look into that.

Zach's thinking about it. Yeah, I need, Zach, I mean a split screen of John Hamm and Matt Olson, if we could. I've got a little movie thing for you later, too, which is going to get you and Zach. Final note from Braves White Sox, Peter Moyland texted me. He said, Montgomery looks for real, reminds me a little bit of Drake Baldwin. Oh, Drake Baldwin. So if he's that, yeah, Tram. Final, final note, and I mean this in the most respectful way possible.

Oh. Truly do. I follow Colson Montgomery on Instagram. He's dating someone who is a softball player. Okay. They put out a video. They're like playing catch together. Their kid's going to be the greatest baseball player of all time.

Like, oh, yeah, I mentioned that. Is she in the AUSL? the season kicked off this one. I didn't really go that deep into it. It was just a quick thing. My Chicago bandits are. Even the comments. Talons took us outside the whoop and shed.

Dodgers, Pirates, Coach Trev, go watch the AUSL. Good product. Dodgers take two out of three from Pittsburgh. Trev, this is, if we needed to, we could have done Matt Olson John. Okay, yeah, Trev. Yeah. I see what you did. I see what you did.

And he's got hair. Like when he combs his hair, it's just like that, yeah. I think it's out there that John Ham's had a lot of good nights. Do what you want with that. Matt Olson would, I mean, I think he would just, them in the same room, I think Matt Olson wins. I don't know. John Ham's one of those guys. And you can also, you can Google some different things about John Hamm that I don't.

Ed Olson's like six, four. I think John Ham's a big old boy. Is he okay? Hey, I'm not, no disrespect, John, man. Jeez. Dodgers take two out of three from the pirates. Again, this is, for me, the pirates, for the past month or so, it's like they cleared my level of, I think this, this is a good team.

Like Brandon Lau and what he's doing this year, all of the pitching. Up and down the lineup, you're seeing different guys contribute. That, like, they haven't been able to get the hot streak. The Dodgers are the wrong team to get the hot streak off of. this second game, I know the Pirates people I follow online were like, this is the game of the year, this is awesome. End of the day, they do end up losing this series to the Mighty Dodgers, which, again, what do you do with that?

Besides, I don't know, the Pirates can walk away and be like, hey, we can play with that team, which I do think that will pay off in the long run. Yeah, I mean, look, the first game, it was a massive seventh inning for the Dodgers, kind of chalked that one up to, like, all right, the bullpen for them has not been good. I've said it a couple times now. I think they have the stuff there,

but they don't throw enough strikes. They get behind the counts. That's been their Achilles heel all year long is the bullpen. So showed in game one, a great comeback in game two. And yeah, like, you know, you're facing Shohei and you're down. All of a sudden, your guy that you brought in gets the double off him. You know, okay, the little shows like you can do it against Shohei. And then Tyler Callahan comes through, bottom of the lineup, him and Spencer Horowitz hit the homers.

It's like showing that lineup length is great for the pirates. They've been doing it all season long. They're fourth in the league and run score. Like they can do that. So yeah, I mean, like, I think for the pirates, you walk away from the series and you're like, all right, like, we could have had two here. We can play with that team. So yes, it does give them confidence.

If these two teams were to meet somewhere down the line in the playoffs, So I'm like, I don't think the pirates would be like, all right, like, we have no chance against them. And sometimes you need that if you're like a team that hasn't had a ton of success and all of a sudden, okay, like we feel like we're part of this now. We call them litmus tests. And you go up against the team like the Dodgers and back-to-back World Series champions. You know, you just see the guys across the field. And, you know, you definitely wonder, hey, do we do we stack up well with this team? I know they lost the series, but I think they could say, yeah, we do.

Like I mentioned, Brandon Lau is killing it, leading MLB second baseman and Homer and RBI, 16 and 45, in that order. That Dodgers lineup against Mitch Keller. That was relentless. It was like every time it flipped, you're like, damn, what do you do? And part of the reason is you don't, Trev, because Freddie Freeman, 2,500 career hits. First player to do that since, what do you know Robbie can know in 2019?

and Freddie's still getting it done. Freddy's race for 3K is going to, if he wants it, he'll be able to hunt that down, which is kind of remarkable with today's pitching and how much you need to be available to play and all of that jazz. And in this series, no Neil Cruz, no Connor Griffin. So there's more to the Pirates lineup right now.

They get three earned runs off of Shohei, which raises his ERA to 106. Isn't he leading the National League in like WRC Plus? Whatever he wants. I can double check for you. And he did get banged up, so they said they're not worried. And they're always,

you're always going to be extra conservative with Joey. Yeah, Trev, he's leading an on-base percentage, OPS, OPS plus. Yeah. Intentional. Intentional walk. With the best with the best ERA and all the National League of the starter. Yeah, okay. You could play for me.

Give me nine Shoheyotan. Give me nine Sal Freelix. And speaking of, the Brewers and the A's, I mentioned they played in Viva, Las Vegas. And the first one, we've seen the MLB throw some juicy balls in some big games. There's a chance this is what happened here. I mentioned it earlier. Feel bad for young Kyle Harrison, who's had this. You think we put the goalie locks balls out here? I'm not saying for sure.

Like weighted baseballs out there. I mean, they're going to need them because in that heat and the way the ball flies. But I don't know, Treve, we had, I mean, that first game is 11 home runs and 34 hits, dude. You mentioned Kyle Harrison. He's got to be just. vomiting thinking about that outing. 11 freaking homers. The William Contreras

3-0 hack fall down is awesome. And then obviously you get Nick Kurtz and John R. I'm like, the whole thing was, I could do these games once in a while, but I can't do them all the time. I actually checked the over-under for Wednesday's game. 15.

Sheesh. You just never see that. I mean, you see seven and a half to nine. It had Mexico City. It had London vibes to it, which I guess... It'll be different. We did some research on this on baseball today where the stadium will be 1,500 feet lower than where they played this game at.

So that helps out a little bit. It will be in a dome, and I've got mixed reports on if that actually makes a difference in the air density, which I don't think it does. So... Who's given you mixed reports on air density, pal? Well, I said that on baseball today. I said, hey, it doesn't matter if you have a dome, the air density will be the same thing.

Now, you can temperature control, so it won't be so as hot outside, obviously. And that's what I read. Actually, you know, I googled that, obviously. And then people in the comments were like, no, actually, if it's in a dome, it will be different because the humidity defect. I'm like, all right, dude. I'm out. I'm out on this whole conversation. I was just trying to bring a little bit of insight.

And for that reason, I'm out. Elbutt, Lawrence Butler with the big homer in that last game. Hopefully it can spark him. Don't go look at his stats and root for Lawrence Butler because he's one of the best personalities this game has. And yeah, I don't know if it's funny business. This series had pure chaos to it. I think if you're the Brewers, you just kind of flap your lips

and get out of there and be like, that was insane. And A's, you know, once we get to the AL standings, there's still going to be a big part of this season going forward. Sorry, Kyle Harrison. Really am. I feel like I had one more Brewers. Oh, just if you're keeping tabs at home. The Brewer's first base position with Jake Bowers from the left side

and Andrew Vaughn from the right side, I think they're like the second most productive first base position. It's so Brewers, it hurts and it's beautiful. another brewers this is great because of this these two teams playing i told you kuhnil the guy they traded for i said you guys i didn't even see that note before i told before i told you guys this i was talking to on our group chat with uh these with our with our crew here and i said you know this guy kunel what's his name i'm is a joe jill i believe joel kuhnil yeah solemn pitch uh for the aes early in the season kind of like has a little side here those though though don't decent

with some movement, ends up getting traded to the brewers. And just like flippantly, I'm like, dude, this is not the guy you want to trade to the brewers. And we kind of joked about it. And then later that evening, I saw a clip from his savant page on his first outing of the brewers.

His fastball was up five miles per hour. Crazy. I don't, Treve, I can't even right now. Yes, A, that graphic and tweet was hilarious. because the slider's up five miles per hour too. And you're just like, wait, did he even throw a bullpen with the brewers? Like, what are they possibly doing? I don't know.

Just screaming throw harder? Because it doesn't make sense to me. Pat Murphy just behind them, yell at it. Yeah, the Pat Murphy factor. That's managing, two-time manager of the year. Trev, we can, I think we can chop through the rest of the National League. I shouldn't say chop through, but chop chaps. Geez. It's a little Bronx reference.

The Padres win a series that they hope matters a lot to them. The Reds continue to keep swimming the wrong direction. That's kind of what my eyes see when I look at this. Although I love small ball Padres with that three consecutive bunts in the first game, make them make plays. And then in that final game, it's everything we've been saying with these Padres team. They get out to the hot start, but the offense isn't clicking. They start losing game.

the offense still isn't clicking. They're waiting for Fernando. They're waiting for Machado. They're waiting for someone to go off. And could the walk-off Fernando Homer be it? I don't know. But that's what everyone in San Diego's hoping. Yeah, I mean, he's actually been swinging the bat really, really well over the last, like, month or so.

It hasn't translated into extra base hits. I mean, he's had it up the other day. I mean, it's OPS in the mid-eights. Yeah. He's hitting in the 300s. Get on base a ton. on base like everything is going right except for his power stroke and sometimes it just yeah just takes you feeling like you can consistently put the barrel on the ball and then it's like all right

I feel good enough at the plate to take some chances and things can click quickly and we know a guy of fredaiano tautis's power strength ability like he can do it I mean it'll be great for them because yeah they're all of their big dogs are struggling there's a lot of like the manny Machado Saga continues. Didn't score for the final 19 innings of the series. two for 30 with runners in scoring position in the series. They have 28 runners on base. Three in 10 in the last 13. Like, it's, yeah, they, like, every time you think, hey, Dynbacks are kind of taken up. They got the recipe, and it kind of ends up in a skid like this.

They were sitting pretty, and then they went one in five against the Nats and the Marlins, which, hey, two tough teams. And I guess that's kind of what I was wondering, because the Marlins, again, you've got Marlins stuff coming, eight and one in June. Otto Lopez is a hit machine, leading MLB in average and hits. Sorry, I know you've got more coming.

and they have a dramatic, I guess, a nine-run comeback that ends with a Bryce Eldridge walk-off Grand Slam. If you listen to my intro to start the episode, the Giants broadcast getting a little, the summer heat's starting to get to them, Coach Trev, talking about hogs out on the broadcast. What happened to the game I loved? That I don't know.

I think that game is kind of the highlight, and the result is not for me. What are you talking about? All right. And that was the series. No, no, no, no. Look, I guess I'll start Giants before just touch on the nationals real quick. I mean, they're such an interesting team.

Well, number one, since Bryce Elders has played every single day, like he had a little frustration early on. He's been absolutely killing it. And for Tony Vitello not to be like, this is our guy earlier on. Like, let's go, big guy. I don't know who was telling him anything other than you need freaking offense. Look at this guy. Look at him.

He's a beast. How could you not want him in the lineup? He's a beast. So you got that going. I mean, their offense has actually been good over the last month. So that hasn't been the problem. Again, they're just middling. And it's interesting.

I don't know what to make of the Giants. I don't know what direction they're going to go. I do not. I don't know. There's only one direction to go and it's continued to like try to, to figure it out and just has not happened. This hasn't happened for them. First game, for instance,

Logan Webb, eight innings pitched. Got a shuddy going. No walks. I believe you only had 89 pitches. It doesn't go back out there. For the ninth, Giants bullpen blows it. We got to stop talking giants, dude. Talk Nats, because Giants don't deserve to be talked about. That's just the facts.

Jung Luli, 18-game hit streak. Some things are going wide, just don't understand why they don't win games. That's the whole point of it. It's there and it's not, Trevin. It hasn't been there all season. We need to stop. We need to stop. We need to stop.

We were obsessed with Vitello. We wanted to see the next part. We got sucked in a little bit. Everything looks okay on paper, but it's just not. Nats, keep winning on the road. A fifth straight road series win, which is not easy to do. They get 23 road wins. that's the most major league baseball.

They score first a lot. They lead baseball with 53 runs in the first inning, which is absurd, and that is a game-changing stat, I believe. Like, score in the first inning is going to help you a lot in the game. Momentum's a real thing, people. And, yeah, like, there's just between Abrams Wood and Garcia, Curtis Mead, like, these guys come up

and they've been playing well all season long. It's why they're hanging in there. Trevor. Could have to sweep. Would have love that. The final two. Cubs, Rockies. Hey, Rockies win a series.

We love Kelsey Winger. I can't claim the Rockies anymore. It's Kelsey and Josie's team. Cubbies, I don't know. Man, you're at 500. They win that game. Could they look back at that at some point in the season? I kind of need to stop talking Cubbies because they don't really deserve it.

I mentioned Sterlin Thompson. Colorado native rookie with the walkoff. We love that. And then the final series would also be Cardinals take two out of three from the Mets. That's kind of what has been happening this season. I love my birds. Zach, if you could get a Jimmy Crooks picture, it blew my mind. Because he's got a fantastic name.

Sounds like something out of a mobster movie in the 1920s. And he just looks like, he looks like every Cardinals hitter. I've seen the past three years. Cole Craig, first career, Homer. Anything else? I don't know. They've been playing so well,

The Phillies take two out of three against the Blue Jays in the Mattingley Bowl. That's 7 foot 11 inch M-Effert. Chris Sanchez, 10 ponches in seven innings. Blue Jays, they get the win against Duran, who blows his first save of the year, gets knocked around a little bit, a little Brandon Valenzuela, you know what that does for me.

But in the final game, Harper, Bohm, and Schwaber, each homa off of Max Scherzer. We kind of hate that. Phillies take the set. Tigers take two out of three from the Minnesota Twins, but how. Trev's going to talk about it. They scored double digits in two games, which that helped the situation. They couldn't stop the Bucks stop.

Byron Buxton, over 20 homers this year. That guy is a sick puppy. And so is Trev's cater-Montaro for the Tigers, who try to stay alive this season. They've got someone coming back this weekend. Royals, they drop that first game. Is Jack Caglione happening?

Because I think he is. Three for three, two homers in that first one. But a very royal series as they lose the next two. The Elias Diaz series. He's played for both these teams this year. And then the Toronto Blue Jays, he's really can't catch their footing, man. 33 and 36 for them. Baltimore kind of the same way, 33 and 37 for them.

Yankees Bullpen really showed up during this series. Spencer Jones's first career homer with Judge out. There's opportunity for some other guys. Will he be the guy? It'll be interesting to see. If I'm being honest with the people, I would say two of these games could have gone. The first two games could have gone either way. They end up on the Yankees side.

And, hey, with Judge going out and how the Yankees had been playing for a little bit, could be a massive step for them. I'll let you run with it, Pop. I think if you're a Guardians fan, you look at this and say, hey, Gavin Williams, Parker Messick, are guys who we look to be stoppers, especially if we get into a playoff series.

Not great starts against a judge-list lineup. That doesn't do a lot for your confidence level. And we know Guardians fans are just never confident anyway, at least the one that I know. Yeah. Messick's last two have been a little shaky. Definitely something to watch if you have Cleveland stock, which not even Chris Rose has Cleveland stock.

The race, I mentioned they sweep the Red Sox with Shreve. We haven't said a lot of good team, bad team this year, but that's kind of what's going on this year. A little spoiler. One of the guys, you mentioned, we fought over someone to give an award to later this episode. They are in this series, and they pitched amazing. So that's a little tease for the people.

Yandi Diazli off Homer to start the series. What else do you have to add here? Yeah, I mean, you're going to be talking a raise aspect of this as far as the Red Sox, you know, the offense continues to struggle in that second game. Four, is it four consecutive two out hits off of Peyton Toll? You know he was pissed because that guy is super intense. But yeah, this was a very raised series. And they really hadn't been playing great coming into this series. So possibly the Red Sox are that team, the get right team right now.

And then my guy, Cater Montero Kane, who's been fantastic this year. A little bit of smoking mirrors, but he's doing it, locating a lot better than years past. And Zebby Matthews, he gets touched. The twin starting pitching is just not it's not doing it right now, man. We don't even

have enough starting pitching. We are doing, like, this guy, Mike Paredes came up and he's doing like bulk outings for us, but, uh, in a bad place right now, the twins are. Tigers have won three straight series. Seven and two in June. Scoobel comes back Saturday. Casey Mize is coming back. Tiger's been dead, but they might not be dead. Yeah, no, yeah. Because of the AL, they, there's plenty of time for them. I agree. It's, I said they're going to be a discussion or in the discussion a lot until we get to the trade deadline. But they might not be if they just start reeling off of, you know,

Peter Lonzo hits the ball up the middle. It was a Ryan Bliss at second base. Beats Gunner to the base. They challenge it. Mariners end up winning that game. But if you're the Orioles, you've got to win those games. You can't be making... Well, okay.

They made a mistake in game one when Blaze Alexander doesn't get to second base on a sack fly. Could have been a two-run ball game. Instead, it's a three-run, and they don't win that game. But you can't make those mistakes and then come up and then not win those games in that situation with like the middle of your lineup up. Like you have to win those games if you want to get back in it.

They just didn't do it. Luckily for them, they kind of got past it and won the last two games. And got to Brian Wu. I think it's been a couple bad outings for him in a row. And he's been, it's been tough for him on the road, which is always just very strange to me. But yeah, this is, um, Mariners, I think are looking. good. The Orioles have shown flashes, especially as of late. Can I ask you a philosophical baseball question?

Yes. With hitting nowadays, because sometimes as fans, we'll watch kind of that for rare situation you mentioned, and will be like a pitcher's wild or it's a big spot, and maybe it's, you know, maybe it's a hitter in the bottom part of your lineup, and they ground out on that first pitch. are there any rules to hitting anymore about like hey you gotta take the first one like do you

does that even register anymore like do you know rarely are you giving away a strike right okay very like if someone's been really like you know six seven balls in a row you might want to just you know see one okay again depends on the situation like if I'm up there like i'm not giving away a middle middle you have to trust yourself enough to say i i got to get this guy in the zone if it's someone you haven't seen and you've just never even seen a strike from them

that's tough okay but if you face the guy before you know what a strike looks like and you just having a bad game if it if you get to two oh three oh and say it is six balls in a row or seven balls in a row i don't i don't care i'm ready to hack so i i don't personally like giving up a strike no matter what i know it looks bad sometimes and say the lead-off hitter gets out first pitch, and does the second hitter usually take the first pitch? Yes, but should he? I don't think so.

But combined 5.2 F4 is the highest of any

middle infield pairing. So you got to like that for them. We got the way they're constructed, and they show this now on their Fangrass roster resource page, of their 40-man roster, Jake, only nine are homegrown.

They are going, making trades, waiver claims, like all sorts of stuff, doing what they have to do to put together a pretty dang good lineup. They went and got Kyle Stowers from Baltimore, Xavier Edwards from Tampa Bay, Otto Lopez off waivers from the Giants, Liam Hicks, Rule 5 from Detroit, Owen Casey, trade from the Cubs, Jacob Marcy trade from the Padres, Joe Mack, a rounder for them. Connor Norby traded from Baltimore. Like, they have just acquired pieces. Obviously, Sandy who's been there for a long time came from St. Louis.

St. Louis had a lot of freaking prospects back in the day, dude. So they have all these things going for them. They're winning baseball games. They're a young club. They're put together a lot in a way that makes them just fun to watch. Tyler Phillips all of a sudden is becoming a must-watch pitcher for them. He's the guy, you might remember him slapping himself coming into the bullpen. I didn't like that at first.

I'm like, that's just silly. I don't want to see you. I don't care. I get it. You're a lever sweet, dude. Turns out, I was wrong. He's a nice guy. I watched some interviews that he did,

and he seems like just a fine individual. Like, you know, sometimes I get ahead of myself with these pitchers. Anyways, like this other team in Florida that you're probably going to talk about, they decided to turn this guy into a starter three games in. It's done a hell of a job. So now all of a sudden, you're getting the semblance of a longer pitching staff for them. So the bullpen who's already been very, very good. look at the names there, a bunch of different angles and stuff coming at you.

Now you're getting the starting rotation going. Now you got this longer lineup going. Like this is a team where I think we could really be talking about. And like there, they got some guys. I talked about Max Meyer being traded at the trade deadline. Not if they keep playing like this, man. And I'm curious to see what they do with Sandy. Team option next year.

But like if they're in it, I don't know. Do they continue this? Hey, let's trade and just keep bringing guys in because we've, brought some decent people in through these trades, or do you stick with it and say, hey, we can win right now. I don't know which way they're going to go. All I knows they're playing good ball right now,

and I like the way their team is constructed. So they get the South Beach Miami-Ho Award. They're interesting, Trev. Peter Bendix, you know, a top five GM for us, who copied the Miami hairstyle, which we liked a lot. When they drew up what they thought the Marlins should look like offensively, they've landed around it.

That they've got a lot of young guys that are contributing right now, including my guy Javier Sanoha, who's 23, by the way. But like, you look around a lot of these positions, like Stowers and Casey were supposed to kind of be the anchors, and they haven't been. They've had a couple swings lately. They like a lot of their guys and a lot of their positions

that they either need their pitching to get more healthy. That it's just, it's the opposite of that Miami script we've talked about almost every year. Very interested to see their next steps. It looks like they've got a guy Thomas White who's knocking on the door, who's a top 20 prospect.

They're Achilles' Heel. this year has been the lack of power and you'd mention the guys that are usually supposed to provide it. So if they continue to lead the league and stolen bases, take extra bases, have that pesky kind of lined up along with the power. That's when you, that's when they'll start really,

really going. Not that they haven't already. Again, eight of last nine games, Jake. Trev, we got Zach here, our guy. Him and Rob both movie guys. Both music guys, too. Similar body types. Okay, now that's going to get to HR and now.

The award basically goes to Drew Rasmussen. Because, man, it just feels like every game he is out there shoving. Seven innings pitch, two hits, zero earn runs, one walk, 13 strikeouts against those Boston Red Sox. I mentioned the future of pitching, and you were like, this guy is it. because Drew Rasmussen throws a cutter, 90 miles per hour, check. Four scene, 27% of the time, 96.

Sinker, 22% of the time. At 95, change-up 11% of the time, but his change-ups at 89. So he's throwing four pitches from 90 to 96 that all move different pitch ninja directions. And guess what? That has made him one of the best pitchers in baseball. Since 2021, he has the second best ERA to Shohei Otani. So everyone put that in your pipe and smoke it.

It's a 278 ERA. That's second. Third is that, excuse me, Chris Sale and Zach Wheeler, who we talk about a lot tied at third. The Rays were very careful with his innings at first because they wanted to get him built up and take care of him and all that. You know, last year in 31 starts, he threw 150 innings.

He's got 73 innings. The strikeouts are way up this year, which that's always impressive. The whip is way down this year, which that's always impressive. And Trev, I mentioned a lot about. trades this episode? You remember the Drew Rasmussen trade? Mm-mm. The Rays got fleeced.

The Milwaukee Brewers got Willie Adomas. Willie Adamas, he couldn't see. He was in Tampa. He couldn't see the ball. The Brewers, they cleaned up, man. They got their shortstop. Willie Adamus went to Milwaukee,

and he played great. He accumulated 14 war over his four years in Milwaukee. Great shortstop, got that big contract with the Giants. Drew Rasmussen, who's on the books for next year, well, it's a team option for $8 million. I'm going to go ahead and say the race snag that one. In his six years with the Tampa Bay raise, 13.2 career war.

So at the time, it was Willie Adamas, and how did the Brewers get this shortstop? And, hey, not everything's built on. war. Not everything's, you know, it's not perfect. The race did pretty damn good getting Drew Rasmussen in that trade. And for a while, that was the Willie Adomas trade. Drew Rasmussen might get him. Might get him. Career 287 ERA. As I mentioned earlier, I was going to give this guy my award. And when you put down one battle after another, I thought you were going to go a different way. So I'll go that way. two Tommy Johns in college, one internal brace procedure in 2023.

We're talking three elbow surgeries later. And he is doing what he's doing. Now, probably why he's doing with those fast balls. He's just like, that's all I got left in the arm, coach. Hey. I can't be sliding that ball anymore. But he's been doing it. You mentioned the contract, which is crazy.

There are some incentive-based stuff depending on innings pitched. that could move that number up. But really, he signed it kind of as a reliever slash going into a starter with all those health issues. He's like, yeah, I'll take this guaranteed money. But you're right. It's a bargain, essentially. And the raise will pick it up. But yeah, he's been, he's been fantastic, man.

And you root for guys like that who have overcome so much as far as injuries and continue to do it at high level. The ERA number, don't care. if you don't like ERA. It's sometimes results matter. Actually, every time they matter. They truly do. And to be in that group of pitchers and never get talked about it like them,

I'm glad you gave them the award today. Good job, coach. Hey, man. Those Tampa Bay race come October, McClan-Rasmussen, Martinez, something like that. Griffin, Jacks, your guy? Do they make a trade for a,
