Starting point is 00:00:01 Hello and welcome to talking baseball. Are you kidding me? A day that'll go down in Philly infamy. The Dodgers move on and go. Cubs go. We're going five. We're going to talk ball. Caleb Tealbar. Ian Hap in the bushes, baby. Hello and welcome to talking baseball presented by Seatgeek. Use code J.M. playoffs for 10% off your playoff tickets. And all of our special playoff edition episodes of talking baseball are presented by team mobile however you watch the game stats watching crazy plays magenta status it keeps you connected with team mobile head over to team mobile dot com slash network i am jake story ellie that is trevor ploof rob sarahs produce and dalton's load in the stats and info trev an all-timer uh an all timer however you split it um how are you my friend. I'm doing very good. I still have a pit in my stomach from the Dodgers game. Truly, I truly do. And maybe that's the human being in me that I need to get rid of for this
Starting point is 00:01:17 episode because we need to get down to the straight ball talk. I even went as far as to put my vacation hat on. I look good in it. Things are good over here. Everyone's laughing. Everyone's got their jokes. A lot of teams in Cancun. One more going there today. in the Phillies and a grand fashion I don't think we could ever forget about if we wanted to. Do you think? And I don't know this.
Starting point is 00:01:46 They don't head back to Philly tonight. It's too late. I think they do, right? You just get on the worst plane ride ever. I guess they were scheduled to go back to Philly. So maybe they will be leaving. Oh, my gosh. It's a weird flight, huh?
Starting point is 00:02:04 It's either a sad, flight or it is a fucking mess and it is a party flight it's probably somewhere in between it's probably somewhere in between because that's a a night that they won't forget as well they'll remember a lot better you you think that on the last day that your actual teammates possibly with Kyle Schwabre you're not going to have a few pops with them on the plane oh there's going to be pops it's going to fringe happy and sad moments yeah um hey It's kind of beautiful when you think about it. I've had a lot of both.
Starting point is 00:02:41 Shout out. Shout out to Orion who did the presser and took it on the chin. Let's start talking about it. In case of emergency, break glass now, as Tyler tries to send the Dodgers to the NLCS, while Christopher Sanchez would hope to make it sunny in Philadelphia for one more game of baseball. And the big men on the bump delivered.
Starting point is 00:03:11 Glass now six shut Sanchez six shut Top seven big dick Nick Castellanos RBI double it's one nothing fills bottom seven no call on Alex they load the bases intentionally
Starting point is 00:03:27 with Otani only for Duran to unintentionally walk mookie tied game Bunos Canto's we're going into the bottom of the 11th bases loaded Andy Pahez Oh, Ryan. A play that'll be remembered in Philly lore for all the wrong reasons,
Starting point is 00:03:47 the confused comebacker. Phillies fans will try to forget while L.A. will celebrate the Dodgers advance to the NLCS after winning 2 to 1 in 11. I thought you were going to go, oh, oh, oh, oh, Ryan, but you had a different one, so I'm happy for that. I just hit it with the O Ryan. Yeah, that's all it needed, coach. Standings in this one, Dodgers, 3 and 1. end of those standings Phillies won three end of the season for them coach one of the first things I have highlighted on my notes which is going to you know turn ironic here quickly when we get
Starting point is 00:04:25 to the end of the game is after the bottom of the second and said great defensive inning for the fillies bottom third stop another nice play up the middle on the key kid game ground ball they were playing lights out they were they were doing everything right except for hitting but I think you have to give some credit to the two guys on the mound there. But what a, I mean, I don't know. Like, we can't just jump right to it, do we? No, I think we should give some love to the pitchers to studs, two tallboys on the top of their game that they looked really good against these
Starting point is 00:05:01 lineups filled with studs, top to bottom. I mean, Sanchez, I mean, obviously, you know, as changeup is so nasty, but it's the same way I talk about Snell. It's just out of the hand looks all the same to him. I know he gets the extension and all that good stuff, but it's just the arm action. It's so good on all of his pitches. It's,
Starting point is 00:05:24 even though he's a lefty coach, and you know I love me some lefties, I am Jemai Jones. I am Rob Reff Snyder. This guy, I don't think I'd like to face. There's a lot of cross angle when he needs to be, and then he can throw that change up when he sees your front hit leak,
Starting point is 00:05:41 He can just get it moving away from right-handers as well. There's depth. He was on and as good as advertised again today. Trev, his location in this generation of, you know, stuff, be low, the more you make it move, deception, release point. He was getting corners, like both sides, bottom in the side, top in the side. It was very impressive. And he throws it with such ease because he's got that seven-foot frame that you know,
Starting point is 00:06:11 when he was originally listed 6-1, legs for days, and the powder blue with the line on the pants, matching the line on the jersey perfectly. It was artwork from him. The only thing that was, you know, Alex Call, who gets put in the lineup because he has good history against him,
Starting point is 00:06:29 you know, gets on base a couple times, including what derails the Phillies pitching plan a little bit. And, man, I'll tell you, My heart sunk in, you know, we're obviously coming up on a historic play. And the internet is doing a good job because they're talking about, you know, hey, the Phillies could have scored more runs. Harper, Schwab or Trey, like, there's a lot of studs on this team that could have done a lot more in this series that this didn't have to be a moment.
Starting point is 00:07:00 Man, when I reread it and the tying run was on an RBI walk, God, that's tough. Let's give Castellanos a little bit of credit, not a ton of hits, but he got some big ones here. The Dodgers played a little slot baseball there. Ria Muto in the top of the seven leads out for the single. Emmett Sheehan's in. They have a chance for the double play, but Sheehan misses the catch, goes in a dugout, Kepler goes the second, allowing. We're going to check it out right here.
Starting point is 00:07:32 And there's a little hesitation right there from him, and then just, you just zoos it, man. And unfortunately, that was a little foreshadowing. what was to come later in the game for the pitching position there. But, yeah, after this play, you know, Phillies do a good job taking advantage of that. Nick Castiano's the double down the left field line, you know, so okay, what's going to happen? The Dodgers offense, you know, has not been good.
Starting point is 00:07:54 Shohei has not been good. And you could take that one or two ways if you're a Dodgers fan. You can say, shit. Right. Showe's not on. He's swinging everything. He's in swing mode. It's crazy.
Starting point is 00:08:05 Or you could say he's got to get going eventually. But here's Nick's double dental left field line. In the moment, coming up to the Dodgers, because I mentioned the Alex call, no call, which, hey, it's one pitch. Supposedly the Ump went up to Sanchez after the game and told him, like, I missed that one. Sorry, which that's, how are the vibes there? I know there's a lot of mutual respect between everyone on the field,
Starting point is 00:08:30 but this is a tough loss. That Duran comes in probably a little earlier than they wanted to, but they press the button. And Trev, I don't know, it was very knee-jerk reaction by us with first base open and mooky on deck. We all said throw up the fours, streaming with Shelfi, Swilly, it was kind of the consensus in the room. It is a lot more interesting in hindsight now
Starting point is 00:08:55 that if you load the bases, A, you're still facing mooky bets. Shohei hasn't been great this series, and you bring the walk into play that, I don't know if you remember where you were at in the moment. I didn't love it. And I believe I The showy has some history against Duran.
Starting point is 00:09:12 I believe I called it at Dodger Stadium. So I've seen it. But show A is not looking good at the plate right now. Yeah. So that's the only thing. I didn't love the walk right there because look, Duran's got elite stuff.
Starting point is 00:09:23 And if you're, if you're, you know, let's call Shohay, you know, at 50% of his self right now. And maybe it's even worse. In this series,
Starting point is 00:09:33 what was it? I haven't written down here. One for 17. Yeah. in this series going into that at bat. And an eight or nine Ks. Like he's just, Duran can make you chase.
Starting point is 00:09:45 He actually doesn't strike out a ton of people, but the way Shohay is going right now, I don't want to load the bases. I don't want that walk to come into play. Anyways, he does it. And I think Mookie did such a great job with this at bat. The two splinkers, that's what you're supposed to call him,
Starting point is 00:10:04 split or sinker. the first two pitches, those things are strikes for 57 feet, and then all of a sudden they dive out of the zone. If Rob's got it, I'd love to show it. The first two pitches of the event are awesome takes. I was bad at Major League Baseball. They didn't even let me try. Like in that spot, is Mookie saying, like, if it's low, let it go?
Starting point is 00:10:28 Like, if he throws me a low fastball and it stays on that plane, I'll take it for a strike, but he's probably throwing the splinker? I don't know I don't know what his approach there was obviously you want to get a strike they face each other before but not very often but the two first pitches the splitters down 2-0 he gets the heater swings through it
Starting point is 00:10:52 and then he sees that one over the zone makes it 3-1 and then he gets one to hit and fouls it off right there and this pitch to take that is so, it's such a good at bat. So, like, I know it's, like, not exciting for the walk to tie the game, but it was such a good at bat that I feel like, I mean, that's, you give Mookie as much credit for that as you do for getting a knock.
Starting point is 00:11:21 Like, it was a very, very good at bat. And then Teo comes in and swings at three balls and strikes out. It's like, the two of those, like, come on, man. It's a weird sport sometimes. That pitch you said Mookie got to hit. that was 101 under his hands, by the way. But I know what you're saying, but it just shows kind of how sick the sport is at this point.
Starting point is 00:11:41 With these two heavyweights, man, and Philly trying to do everything to get back on the bird and have a game five in Philadelphia. Roki Sasaki, man. Oh, my gosh. Three innings perfect. By the way, a guy that, you know, doesn't have a lot of history coming out of the bullpen.
Starting point is 00:12:02 Lazzardo deserves the same. amount of love. He came in and looked nails. Oh, he was filthy, dude. I thought when Lazzardo came in. First of all, I didn't know what the move was. I was texting one of my Dodgers buddies. And I was like, this seems like game. Top of the lineup up, you know,
Starting point is 00:12:18 you get Otani, you get Muki, you get Freddie and Teo. Like, it seems like game. Then I saw Lizarro and I was like, oh, never mind. Lazzardo's in. And he showed up. I mean, it was. Three pitches to K Shohei. Muki flies out, Kay's Teo, and it was just like dominant too, not even close. But I want to go back before I forget, we got to give Kike's flowers too.
Starting point is 00:12:43 But before they had to bring in Duran, he got the hit off Sanchez to get first and second there. Gets a 3-1 change up, takes a huge hack at it. And on the broadcast, they were talking like, Sanchez's got to go back to that pitch. And he did, and Mookie stays on it, man, and gets that base knock. So he's been himself in the postseason. But yes, we get to extra innings. Sasaki's nasty. Lizardo's nasty.
Starting point is 00:13:07 And now, Coach, I think it's time. Yeah, and I, normally I'm not this, there's an S word that I would call myself. I think I got to get a read in before we talk about this because I don't know how lost we're going to get. The play is brought to you by Corona. Go grab a couple. There's probably a couple, probably a couple on the flight right now.
Starting point is 00:13:28 And it's the epitome. You know what? I think both teams are sipping on coronas right now, and that kind of shows the breadth of it. Coronas, they're the beer of baseball. Cervesa, they call it. And whether it's game one, whether it's spring training,
Starting point is 00:13:44 you're drinking a beer on the berm, whether you're on the flight home sad, whether you're on the flight to your next stop happy. Corona is with you the whole way. Put a lime in there. Grow up. Postseason is like you're on the plio when you have Corona. official,
Starting point is 00:14:00 surveys of MLB, get yours at order corona.com. 21 plus relax responsibly, Corona extra beer imported by Crown import, Chicago, Illinois. Treb, I mean,
Starting point is 00:14:10 I'll let you lay it out. You've been on, again, you've been on the field more than me. I did think it was a little rude that you texted me. Why didn't he go to first, L.O.L.
Starting point is 00:14:19 I did not do that. I actually try to call you and Shelfi during your live she and both he has big league me, so that wasn't nice. I haven't, my phone doesn't give me notifications when people call.
Starting point is 00:14:28 Oh, that sounds like, I've actually never heard that from a girl, but that sounds like something you've heard from girls many times. Okay. So no. It's a horrific feature of my phone. I want that replaced.
Starting point is 00:14:39 Go on. Lazzardo, who we just talked glowingly about, gets the K to Freddie Freeman. You feel like, hey, like, you know, things are going good. But then Tommy Edmund, who's a playoff stud,
Starting point is 00:14:52 a base knock with one out. He gets pinched run with Hassan Cam, our guy who we haven't seen yet, I don't think, in the postseason. Do I have I forgot about that? I think this was his first, first time out there,
Starting point is 00:15:03 ready to run. Max Muncie Dog, he gets the double, or the single two outs. So now it's first and third. Kike, Nice aback, gets the walk here. So now it is bases loaded.
Starting point is 00:15:14 And you're going so fast, Rob, we got to slow it down because this thing needs to be broke down a little bit here. I, this is the truth right here. Because it was it,
Starting point is 00:15:24 it was, it was just one out, I believe. No, it was two outs. Two outs. Two outs. Yeah, okay.
Starting point is 00:15:28 two outs Kike walks to low the bases just like we were talking about with the Duran like you can't there's nowhere to put him right so all Kirkring is thinking about in this situation is throwing a strike or like he's thinking about pitching
Starting point is 00:15:46 right first he is not thinking about fielding the ball at all Andy Pa has not I know pitchers man they do that is the last thing he was thinking about right there Obviously, it's a very stressful situation, no matter where you're at on the field, but a pitcher knowing he has to be perfect and he's got to make not only good pitches, but there's no room for air whatsoever.
Starting point is 00:16:09 He's not thinking about field in the ball at all. He blows up, Pahas, blows them up firewood for days. So it's already a little weird, and you just see him kind of like the feet were weird from the get-go. He zoos it. and then you see JT pointing the first base because he's got plenty of time. Paulus is like, I'm out dude.
Starting point is 00:16:32 He's like, I'm out. He wanted to be the hero. At that point he's like, I'm not the hero. He's probably sulking a little bit and then Kirkring just panics. And he didn't even have a grip on the ball
Starting point is 00:16:43 and I couldn't tell if that was like maybe he was at the last second thinking about going to first base or not or it was just pure panic. And similar to what we saw Tommy Ebman, almost throw one away that Freddie picked him up. Like he just had a grip on the ball like he was holding the golf wall. I don't have one here, but it's, as soon as that happened,
Starting point is 00:17:01 I yelled and Olivia said, what happened? And she thought I was hurt. And I was hurt for him, man. Like it just, and all those Phillies, you could just see right away just the emotion come out in all those players. Like JT immediately, every single player on there immediately just puts their head down, knowing that they just spent eight months. Yeah. Giving everything they got. Understand that the city of Philadelphia has huge expectations for them and they probably have even bigger expectations for themselves because they know what kind of team they have and for it all to end on something like that it's uh it's gut wrenching i think is a proper term for what happened yeah and it's yeah it doesn't i was in a borderline state of shock like it but you're right i mean
Starting point is 00:17:55 that's where it's crazy. Like the pitcher in that moment, hey, the other run we gave up was on a walk. So his first pitch, he goes at him with a fastball. And Pahas gives one of the worst swings you've seen in the postseason that he goes right back to it. And it works. And it works.
Starting point is 00:18:11 It comes right back to him. And you just see it moving fast. And it's going to move fast for him forever to the point that it's going to move slow in his head forever. And yeah, I mean, hey, real Mudo is going to question himself on that play. because he's pointing to first. Like if he extends like a first baseman instead of a catcher, does that change the play?
Starting point is 00:18:33 If he's out past home plate and just screaming one, does Kirkering see he's not home and go with it? Like everyone starts questioning everything. I know, Trev, it's, I think Real Mudo is going to be able to sleep a little easier than Kirkering. But on a play like this, when you're going to watch the replay either a ton of times or never, you can just question all of it. And it's tough, man, because he was in the worst spot you could put a pitcher in.
Starting point is 00:19:00 He came to the game, bases loaded, season on the line. And he did his first job. And oftentimes you don't have to do your second job. And he did. And it's as brutal as it gets. He did walk Kiki. So he kind of did that to himself. And that was another good at bat, another full count.
Starting point is 00:19:21 Yes, but with Pahas on deck, you couldn't lose to Kiki. I agree. He's trying to make a really good pitch there. Those a sweeper, three, two, ends up walking him, puts himself there. But yeah, as far as Rheumuto being in a better position, because that's floating around a little bit. He's never going to be like right foot on the bag as a first base in there. If anything, he was lined up correctly, was not expecting the throw. Maybe you change that a little bit, but at the same time,
Starting point is 00:19:51 not in a million years did he think the guy was going to throw him the ball. I know. and going out there and yelling to him. Like he was on the base where he was supposed to be there. He was in the right position. The one thing I'll say is maybe he wasn't fucking gung-ho ready to receive it, but at the same time, how could you be? None of us were.
Starting point is 00:20:12 Oh, gosh. I am sick still, man. I am sick. Everyone expected the next part of that play to be curking turns and throws to first, which is also scary with pitchers, right? Like, let's not pretend that play was done with. Especially after you clank it. I mean, Tommy Edmund, who's, you know,
Starting point is 00:20:32 a renowned for his versatile defense, had the last play of the game come at him. And he choked a ball to first base that Freddie saved his butt on that. Let's not pretend like that was a layup. If it gets done, we'd say, wow, how about Kirkering? And we're going to the 12th. Instead, the Philly season ends. Is it Kyle Schwaber's last game as a,
Starting point is 00:20:55 Philly? Is it J.T. Realmudo's last game is a Philly? Crazy that the Phil's are going to look back at two games this series, and it's essentially one pitch to Strom. And then, however, this game, they lose on a walk and then a taper back to the pitcher that, I don't know. Again, I was live streaming with Shelfi, who his filling knowledge is better than me, and he's, again, it's where luck meets skill, these short series that Shelfi was just like, man, it sounds lame. We really haven't been able to do the little things in these games when we've needed them going back to when the Diamondbacks snake bit them in, in 2023.
Starting point is 00:21:38 That I don't know. And that's where, you know, sometimes the Internet is awful. A lot of times the Internet is awful. It was good to see a lot of the resounding comments and people pointing to, hey, the Phillies didn't need to be in this position. if you know, Schwarber just missed one off Sasaki. Like if that happens, we're having a totally different episode. Do you think they're like, hey, Dodgers, could you have just picked it up more so we didn't have to face you in the DS?
Starting point is 00:22:08 We could have faced you in the CS. You know, that's, there's probably some interesting brackets talk to be had, but it was brutal. One of these teams was going to be eliminated and our jaws were going to drop either way. The Phillies in this area that they were the big. bad wolf for a while. Like who wants to play the Phillies in Philly and how quickly that change to the Dodgers who are stacked trying for back-to-back World Series. Shohei literally made his contract so they could win more now. You know, signing guys that we didn't even think would be in play for them. Conforto Kirby Yates, guys not involved in this
Starting point is 00:22:46 series that they had the luxury of going for and potentially missing on. That I mean this is this is going to sit with Phillies fans forever. Well, yes. I mean, it's going to be talked about, but they'll move on. And, you know, what I want to say to Kirkring, and I'm not going to be able to talk to him
Starting point is 00:23:06 because I don't know him, but Trent Grisham probably felt the exact same way when, was it, Juan Soto hit the ball past him in 2019, the next year he came, he won a goal glow. So, like, yes, you're always going to have that,
Starting point is 00:23:20 but I don't really think about Trent Grisham that way anymore. he's done enough now where I think he hit 30 homers this year and he was on a different team like there's like I want kirk ring to get into that mindset eventually I know it's going to be a while for him to be able to do that especially because it's the off season now and it's like fuck man he's he's going to be thinking about that for quite some time uh but there is a path for redemption and he's got a he's got an example that's still in the league right there with him so yeah uh you know many asterisk read below on the page, Trent got traded that offseason.
Starting point is 00:23:57 And, you know, Philly, ask Alec Bohm, he's seen the highs and the lows of it, that if he comes back and shows them everything he can, the city will welcome him back with wide open arms at some point. It's really tough that it's a reliever because literally any reliever in the sport could have like a bad April. And if Ryan Kirkring has a bad April for the Phillies next year, like I don't, don't tag me in that content. Yeah, there can be an exciting next chapter, but God, it's, the end of this chapter
Starting point is 00:24:30 is a really tough one for him, for Philadelphia, and again, Turner, Schwerber-Harper, game one for 11, game two, one for 10. Game three that they won, seven for 13, game four that they lost, one for 14. So again, a lot of those big guys that need to get it done, that's what it goes back to. And credit to the Dodgers, man. How they pitched and navigated all this and made runs happen. Like the mighty, mighty Dodgers, the salary and Shohay and all that. They did score on two playoff plays on a nice walk and whatever the hell that last play was.
Starting point is 00:25:10 Alex Call two starts against Sanchez. Got on base three times, three for three? Yeah. That's pretty awesome. I got nothing left. Dodgers are going to have some time now to prepare to see who they're going to face. We're going to talk about that next game coming up right here. Last thing on Phillies, Trey Turner was like stress groping his hair.
Starting point is 00:25:35 He's got great hair. Great hair, yeah. He's got so much hair that the game was getting so panicked that his hair was hitting that, like, you see a guy in a movie scene that it's like, don't get in that guy's, way. Interested to see the next steps for Philadelphia. Unfortunately, I don't know if we're talking about them today. But the Dodgers will be going on, and they don't know who they'll be facing yet.
Starting point is 00:26:11 Matthew Boyd and the Cubs hoping to not go hibernate. But if Freddie Couples a second win in this series for Milwaukee, they will be the masters of this division series. Base Runners becomes a compounded error. That's what's happening. Ian leaves Brewer fans whining for a three-run, home run. Oh, boy, Matthew goes 4.2 shutpiece, bottom six, Shawshank redemption for Matt with his RBI single.
Starting point is 00:26:42 King Tut. How do you get so funky? Woo-whoop. 5-0 Cubs, 6 to 0. A little more bush. Hello. Holy cow! Cubs win, Cubs win.
Starting point is 00:26:55 We're headed to Game 5 in Milwaukee. You're aged up right now, Coach. I love it. A little scared of it. Thank gosh I'm 3,000 miles away. Who knows? F or F, we never know. The standings in this series.
Starting point is 00:27:15 Two and two for both of these teams. Game five? We got two game fives, which is just a game seven people. I think we should refer to them as game seven. Because game five sounds, it sounds soft. Okay, I think we can work on that. You know what I mean? Game seven just means an elimination game.
Starting point is 00:27:34 Just fast forward, kind of. Just like, hey, any elimination games of game seven, game seven of the wild card? That's, yeah. Yeah, I don't know. It sounds stupid when you say that now. They need a new... You ruined it. You ruined it.
Starting point is 00:27:48 Trev, you talked about us being 3,000 miles apart. Something that keeps us together is T-Mobile. Based on hundreds of millions of real world. World Test, the experts at Ucla Speed Test have spoken. T-Mobile is now the best mobile network in America. You can keep up with all the MLB action, whether you're, you know, where Trev is at, whether you're in the big city like us. They have the most towers, the most advanced 5G, and a signal that goes further than ever.
Starting point is 00:28:16 So however you enjoy your T-Mobile, it's going to give you the best. Or if you don't have it, you're missing out, and you kind of want the best. So go check them out. Head over to T-Mobile.com slash network to switch to the best network. Coach Shreve, we've seen a lot of first inning action in this Cubsboro series. And this one is no different. And it is our former colleague, peer, equal, big brother for you, wine buddy, Ian Hap, pisses on a ball.
Starting point is 00:28:52 I mean, Riggily, this is. time a year. It's not easy to hit a ball to that part of the ballpark. Happer crushes it. It's three nothing after one. I'm sure Dalt has it on the sheet. Haven't seen it. How many runs have they scored in the first inning in this series? It's insane. So the final three in this game, Shaw, Tucker, and Bush are the first runs they got outside of the first inning. That's unbelievable. What's going on with that? But a great swing by Ian. I believe it was a one-oh heater. I have it on my sheet. I got to get back to my sheet now. Get back on your sheet now. A one-one fastball for the three-run shot. He did crush it, man. And you know what?
Starting point is 00:29:35 I talked to Chris Rose. You asked me a couple days, who's got to step it up for the Cubs to get back in this thing? And he said Tucker, which was the obvious answer. So you know, Ian Hav's got to get it going too. He's a veteran on that team, a guy who, you know, I don't want to say they built the team around him, but he's a, he's a cornerstone of that franchise right now. and they need him in big moments, and he steps up right there. And a solo shot is great. A 1-0 lead is great.
Starting point is 00:30:00 A 3-run lead is completely different. Those are backbreakers, man, and Ian hits one in the first inning. And I guess if you're a Milwaukee fan, at that point, you're like, yeah, but it's Matthew Boyd. We got to him. He didn't get out of the first inning the last time we saw him, and that dude starts side-slinging that pill.
Starting point is 00:30:20 He's throwing sinkers there. He's throwing a big sweeper. Everything going. And that, to me, I think, was the story of the game. Him dropping his big old thing all over that Rigby Field mound and said, here it is. Didn't get a chance to show you this in Milwaukee. I forgot to do that.
Starting point is 00:30:35 And he steps up for them, man. That was two veterans, you know, taking the reins here in this game to basically get the job done. Yeah, stepping on the mound after what happened to him the first time. And yeah, man, he's got some fun. I can't do it anymore, coach. I can't do it anymore. Trev just hat swapped. He went from Yankees to garbage.
Starting point is 00:30:58 His arm angles and what Matt Boyd is doing out there is a lot of fun. You know, I tried to, Dalton saw a lot of this. I was keeping up with his pitches sometimes on the Draft King Sportsbook. And man, they come out of the same tunnels and he can make it sweep a little more or not. Like he is, he's pitching. And by the way, I saw some 50-95s in the chamber there. That's still coming at you, man. Good for him on the redemption start.
Starting point is 00:31:30 And yeah, I mean, 4.2 shut in a 2025 playoff game is, I don't know, a top five start this postseason, a top 10 start this postseason. On a do-or-die game, pretty special. And then opening it up, as we've talked about, to not let those pesky brewers have a little bit of hope. King Tuck shows up and Michael Bush, man. Again, gentle pat on the backs for us this year for always looking at the Cubs and being like,
Starting point is 00:32:01 do you guys know where Michael Bush is at? And then not gentle pats on the back for us because I wish we said more because he has been like the lifeblood of this team. Yeah, I mean batting lead off, setting the tone early in games, then at the end of the game kind of putting things away. he's been great.
Starting point is 00:32:19 There was, before we get off of Boyd, in the top of the fifth, he allows the lead off double to, to Freelick, Blake Perkins with the walk, Ortiz Bunce Smover, so it's second and third,
Starting point is 00:32:30 um, with one out, and he's facing Yelly there. And he gets so nasty on him with a sinker inside, just ties him up. And Yelly, like,
Starting point is 00:32:41 at that point, as a hitter, you're like, is that ball going to run into the other batters box? Oh, no, it's a fastball in on my hands It's like an excuse me swing. It's just nasty. Trev, this was literally, this is what I was talking about.
Starting point is 00:32:55 He threw a sweeper before that pitch to Yelly That ends up outside. But halfway there, it's the same tunnel. 171 away and one was 92 in. Yeah, that's, that's pitching, baby. We can work with that. I hope we see more of it. Next inning, bottom five, Ashby comes in.
Starting point is 00:33:17 and he does a really good job. Three two pitch on Suzuki. He throws that curball with the bases loaded. Ballsy pitch right there. Check swing. He gets the call. I think he did go around. They showed that he did.
Starting point is 00:33:31 And then gets half to end the inning. So like some really big pitches in the middle of the game that probably don't get talked about because there was no blood. But these guys, you know, stepping in doing what they're supposed to do right there. I guess I don't know where we go from there. Shaw drives the run in, makes it for nothing.
Starting point is 00:33:50 Carson Kelly hits like a 3,000 foot home run that he knows his foul. Did you see that? We saw it. I was half, I was right in Burns and looking up. And initially I did a side view of the first replay. And I was like, I think that's a homer because I didn't see it go past the pole. But then, yeah, when you get those, when I was like, okay, let me watch this. It's like, oh, shit, yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:14 Well, Keith, like, knows it's foul. So he's not like really celebrating. He's like running around the bases. And then his back of his mind is like, are they going to let me have this? Right. I don't know what that replay shows. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:27 And then he ends up getting fisted and grounds out. But whatever. I don't know where to go here except two game five. I mean, the Cubs kind of handle this. The Brewer's offense went cold, which is going to happen from time to time. And this is going to be,
Starting point is 00:34:44 it's going to be a very, very, very exciting game. Game five. That's great analysis right there, Treve. Yeah, dude. You want to do that again for me? Crush that. We're live.
Starting point is 00:34:56 Let's do that again. Hey, I, Trev, I don't know. There wasn't really, there wasn't really drama at the end of the game. No. That's, I think Rob was saying before he's like, I wish these games were in reverse. So then I was like, okay, wow, we're going to get a game five. And then what happens in Philly and L.A. Not how the world works.
Starting point is 00:35:13 Michael Bush, again, the Dodgers trade in for prospects. So we're still prospects with the Dodgers. Like, I don't want to move past that too much. But they got the best hitter on their team this year. He's leading off, he's making the minimum, I think. 740K, which. Oh, he's not. Yeah, he probably.
Starting point is 00:35:31 Yeah, dude. And, you know, this Cubs team that we talked about, they made the moves. I think Horner makes 11, tuckers around 20. Suzuki's in the area code. Happer's around 20. Dan's and here's Michael Bush at the top of the lineup, providing what he has this series. Hey, we gave Boyd love. The bullpen does deserve more love.
Starting point is 00:35:55 I know the game. They've been filthy all season. I know it ends up drifting. I know it ends up drifting away, but Palencia, Palencia gets the win in this game. And they were 4.1, one hit, one walk. So they have been lights out. And yeah, there's, there was nothing for the Burrub. today, three hits in total.
Starting point is 00:36:16 And it tees up, man, these two teams that have become rivals, you know, the brewers weren't in the NL for a long time. They came over. It's a 90-minute drive, the good people of the Midwest. Craig Council jumps over. I mean, this is all of the things we've been through with these two teams.
Starting point is 00:36:42 I'll get my Kostas on for a minute. Watch this shit, Trev. This Cubs team coming off the World Series team that won it, but then they kind of didn't bring any of those guys back. And the Cubs were in this weird area. They weren't winning a ton. They weren't going to the postseason. They added Dansby.
Starting point is 00:37:01 They started adding a couple other guys around the edges. They have some prospects come up. They trade for the hired gun Kyle Tucker for this year. This year, that guy's going to get 400 million next year. I don't know if he's going to be back. We will see. There's a lot of, I think Jesse Rogers, who covers the team kind of put out like
Starting point is 00:37:17 Kyle Tucker's not going to be back. We'll deal with that in the off season. The Milwaukee Brewers, the punchy Brewers. Hey, we're not going to sign all these guys. We're going to make the smartest move every year. How much are you going to let us sign Kitana for? Hey, we can make pitchers in a lab.
Starting point is 00:37:33 Let's just do that. We'll lock up our stud, Christian Yellich. Otherwise, we're going to have a lot of body cycle through and figure this out. You're going to steal our manager Cubs. Knock yourselves out. Look at this cat. He's carrying around pancakes in his pocket when he doesn't have slices of pizza and other food.
Starting point is 00:37:53 They won the division. They were the best team in baseball this year. And now it comes down to one game. And who's going to pitch for both teams? I don't know. I don't know, coach. I think it's going to be all hands on deck, obviously, in the winner-take-all. It is a fascinating kind of way to think about the game because, yes, the brewers are always looking to make the, and let's call it what it is what it is.
Starting point is 00:38:26 It's a money saving move. That's what they're trying to make, dude. If you want $8 million for your manager, no, we're good on that. We're like, we don't need that. They're always trying to basically get the highest value they can. That's why they trade Josh Hader. That's why they trade a Devin Williams. No, they're not going to say, what's ride these guys?
Starting point is 00:38:47 Then let's maximize value there. And then, yeah, the Cubs who, I think for a while we're trying to, you know, develop homegrown and if they've done that a bit, but they're still a big market team that goes out and spends money. So it is two completely different franchises. But they're not too dissimilar in the way that they play the game. So, yeah, it's, It's going to be great.
Starting point is 00:39:14 Brad Keller coming in and having, and is not the closer, but the highest leverage guy right now in the, well, I guess Palencia might be that too. Yeah, they're, they've got like an old school, new school. Like they got the stopper. Palencia comes in when we got to stop it.
Starting point is 00:39:33 Keller, if there's a moment, you're going. I don't know if we have a closer. You're getting the best lane at the end of the game, whether that's in the eighth, the ninth, Keller. They have roles, which I think are defined now. And, you know, when we went into the postseason with the Cubs, I don't think there was any defined roles, but they found him. Trev, maybe you've seen it because Dan Rourke posted sometimes.
Starting point is 00:39:58 When Spider-Man, Toby McGuire, is feeling himself and he's walking down the street like he's the coolest guy in the world, maybe Rob will track it down. Drew Pomeranz out of the game for a couple years. he was pitching downhill with the confidence of 10,000 Spartan men. And just that's something only the playoffs can provide. Rigley was going nuts. And his story to be back out there in a part of this hodgepodge bullpen.
Starting point is 00:40:29 Really fun to see. And yeah, I mean, both teams are going to bullpen this. Like nobody's going to have more leash that they can blow the game themselves. And it's just going to be fun to track the Mizorowski butt. Like when are they going to press that? How are the Cubs going to get through the first couple? Because we just saw their back end plan, right? Like that is what they want to do.
Starting point is 00:40:50 And the fact that these two seasons come down to one game in Milwaukee, will that part of it matter? Is it going to be a moment? Because like look what just happened in L.A. What the hell is going to happen in the first inning in game five? That's what I want to know. It's going to be something. I'm betting no runs because I'm a sick of.
Starting point is 00:41:09 Oh, look at it. It's you. I like that. I like that about you. I'll ride it. Fading. I'm fading the pub. God. Zerowski is going to be thrown. This is it. This is what Drew Pomeranz is feeling. Hey man. If you saw the way he was picking up the ball after each pitch. I did. I was watching the game. He ced free of Perkins, both looking, one on a fastball, one on the curb ball.
Starting point is 00:41:30 I get it. I get it. Just like, it's me, the catcher, and the hitter, and I'm not going to need any of these fools. Yeah, to get them looking is pretty cool. 93, a little off speed. Let's see. Drew Pro Hitch. See ya. All right. I'll go for a little stroll.
Starting point is 00:41:51 Who's this one? Hey, shout out to Rigby. They brought it. They did. They were wild tonight. Coach, anything else you got. We've got game five tomorrow. Mariners, Detroit Tigers.
Starting point is 00:42:09 we've laid that one out for the people a little bit and then this game will be Saturday night any final thoughts Scoobel versus Kirby can Seattle beat Scoobel or the Tigers when Scoob is pitching for the fourth time this year
Starting point is 00:42:28 they're feeling confident I watched an interview of Scoobel and he was like yeah whatever like there's pressure all the time I'm just going to do my thing and I'm like God you're such a freaking stuff He is exactly who the Tigers want on the mound. He's exactly anybody would want on the mound, but the Mariners don't give a fuck.
Starting point is 00:42:46 It's going to be great. 17 teams have bounced back from 02 to force a game 5. The team that forced the game 5 has gone on to a 10 and 7 record. So that's kind of what the Cubbies are working with. Guys, we've been going live, which means some of you sent super chats, Irvine Cattle Ranch, Jonathan Montgomery, Matt K, and our guy not Mr. Moon.
Starting point is 00:43:07 There's a lot to read there, but can't tell you how much we appreciate you guys. Appreciate you joining our streams and listen in all these episodes. So share with a friend. We'll be back tomorrow night. Detroit? Motor City, Kitties?
Starting point is 00:43:23 Do we just bottle it for Saturday? I'll have a conversation. Let's talk. Jake sucks. I got invited to a neighbor's house for dinner tomorrow. I'm going to go there with my laptop. I said, I have to have the game on so I can freaking take my notes. and then I'm going to come back here and record.
Starting point is 00:43:41 Tentatively, I guess. I mean, I thought we were for sure doing it. What's it mean when he wants to F and F him? Yeah, I don't know. Why does Jake always say he's aged up? You say that a lot.
