Hello and welcome to talking baseball.
The Amazing Mets finally get out amazing.
The Phillies rally back and the Dodgers get daddied.
Quite a scene.
Let's talk ball.
Fernando!
Ryan Brazier.
Mark Vientos.
Hello and welcome to talking baseball.
Presented to you by Seatgeek.
Make sure you're using co-jomboi playoffs.
Is this my deep voice?
Make sure you're using game.
go John Boy playoffs this postseason.
Go see a game.
Or you can just add it to your account
and go to a game whenever.
That's kind of my favorite thing about it.
Johnboy playoffs, 10% off,
whether your first time buyer or not,
it's Seekkeek. They're the Geeks of Seeds.
Download the app.
Go to a game, go see.
Don't throw stuff on the field.
No, don't ask.
That'd be my one ask.
You know what you can throw on the field?
Love.
Throw some love.
I was going to guess that.
Seat geek.
They are filled with love.
How do I get you with that?
Because I had it.
I can't believe I had it.
I guess, you know, I'm surprised when I know the answer to something.
How are you doing, Big Hoss?
I'm doing great.
A lot of ball to yuck.
A lot of stuff to yuck about.
Not even, you could go off the field stuff to yuck about.
But we've had some, I was telling C. Rosie this.
The playoffs have lived up to the hype this year.
Yeah, right?
Whether it's because we've,
We've had rival cities going at it, which is the case in New York, Philly, and San Diego, and L.A.
But there's also just, I feel like there's a lot of different styles of baseball being played right now in the big leagues.
And they're all kind of like meshing up against each other.
And it's just led for great games.
I think we have to credit like the Mets a lot for that because of what they've done late in the games.
You'd say the same thing about Philly last night.
I mean, where do you want to start, Pop?
Yeah, the NL, the National League is stacked.
I'm hoping
little bro
the American League brings it tonight
and they will.
But yeah, I mean,
this postseason's been electric
and I think part of it was
the Texas Rangers and Diamondbacks
were cover everyone's ears,
face fucking teams.
Dude, like it was...
That's true.
Right?
Like, Doleys would go yard
and it's like, okay, it's 6-0 Rangers
and then the snakes were kind of doing the same thing
last year that these miracle Mets just never being out of it.
And yeah, the rivalry stuff.
I mean, hey, I mean, last night's Dodgers-Padres game,
you could look at and be like, well, 10-2 final.
But it's like that game was filled with action through eight innings.
So I think we get into it.
I think we cron-pod the proper way.
And we start with Mets-Fills.
The fight-ins need a win to not go to.
down two nothing with seven foot tall Christopher Sanchez on the bump. But when you're that tall,
be careful because the Miracle Mets will try to Severino your head off. What? Top three. Sometimes
you need to vent and let it out. Vientos two run homer opens up the scoring. It's two nothing
into the six polar bear siding at the bank. Three nothing in Severino putting his playoff demons behind him
until the 6th.
Bryce DeCambos won in the center,
and Big Dick Nick follows with the same three pitches tie game.
But top seven, Nimmo fishes one out again.
It's four three Mets, but in the eighth,
everything's going to be a-o, a-o-k,
Stott down the line, two-run triple,
J-T-sack fly, it's six four-fills into the ninth.
Vientos, loosely.
translates to power.
Second two-run
Tator of the game. Sixes
everywhere except in Nick's
pants. Drag that thing as
you walk it off. Philly
ties it up at once
with a 7-6 walk-off.
Philly wins.
How big is it?
Man, and we had a pre-show
conversation about a similar
topic, and I forgot I had written that.
Treve,
an amazing game.
game. The New York Mets, looking like they had a good chance about three times in this game to go up to
nothing, bring it back to City, Shea, what are we calling it now? But the Phillies show that they are still
these Phillies. No one coming out of a bullpen is safe right now. Where do you want to go with this game?
well vientoz i thought meant windows but i just looked at that means wins yeah so i was like i was
there well and you're you're kind of there wind creates power i got nervous uh because i was like
i was going to do a translation joke and i was like wait is vientoz even because everyone keeps
saying he's from connecticut dad's from the d r mom's from nicaragua nicaragua can you tell i'm
from connecticut uh i think bentanas means is winniquetteette
Windows. I'm basically Latin.
You're a Stanford Latin professor.
How about the ball?
Great ball. I mean, this is, the Mets have been playing this way.
Like I said, they're part of the reason why the playoffs have been so dang good.
The series they put up against the Brewers, the things they've done late in games,
you know, chalk up another all-star reliever that they've gotten to and Matt Strong back-to-back games.
Obviously, Hoffman as well in that first one.
And so, you know, obviously Philly needed this.
I was watching, I was, my bad, at the Rams game in this week, watching this together.
I had the Phillies walkoff going on the TV inside.
I got my guy Matthew trying to hunt down a fourth quarter victory right in front of my eyes.
It was like a sports fan's dream.
I really thought about that in the moment.
I'm like, this is probably like as cool as it gets.
but there was
I mean
do you remember
I guess it was a couple of years ago
I think it was 2022
Rice and Stott
hits like the Grand Slam
and there's that clip
where it's just the audio
of the stadium
so you hear his walk-up song
and I need that from his triple
last night as well
that was incredible
I thought I don't know man
like everything has been so
so good
and baseball reference
still has Chris Sanchez
listed as 6-1. I'm mad about it. We've put it out on the show enough that baseball
reference needs to update it. He's seven foot tall. I think the way that I'm thinking about this
series between the Mets and the Phillies is who the hell knows what is going to happen. And that's
the best case scenario for the sport, for the fans, for the viewing with the starting pitchers
that are lined up for game three. And you got no one.
going up against Manaya.
That's awesome.
But it's been a story of, you know,
end of the game,
who gets to whose bullpen.
It's just been fun.
It's just been fun baseball all around, man.
Like Bryce Harper doing his thing.
You have the big names going at it.
Every single person on the Mets, you know, contributing.
It's,
it's been awesome, dude.
Yeah, and I,
uh,
I mean,
it's,
it's a backhanded shout out to Louis Severino,
who I,
seen a lot of his playoff starts, man,
and his history isn't so pretty.
I mean, he had to bounce back against the Brewers,
but, you know, the four runs there,
which in a lot of playoff games,
that can be too much.
Man, he's clean, clean sheet.
And then the bad man comes up,
and he does bad man things.
And the other thing, you know,
it's obviously, it's easy to point at Harper 2 run home or to center,
and Cassiano's follows it up,
and now he's on fire,
and he's so funny that he comes in spurts and like,
okay, so Castellanos, until further notice,
is just going to be, like, impossible to get out.
I mean, it also flash forwards to that ninth inning
where they basically pitch around Harper
because you can't let that guy beat you.
So now that Castellanos is hot,
okay, so now there's two guys in the middle of the lineup
that you can't let beat you.
And, oh, yeah, surrounding them is $300 million,
Trey Turner, who had two hits,
in this game.
Bryson Stott, who we just mentioned follows him.
Bryson Statt.
I like this shit too much.
Thanks, everyone.
Subscribe.
And that's without mentioning lead-off hitter, Schwerber,
or Real Mudo head in the other way.
That's where these Phillies, power is power.
It's been one of our themes of the show this second half of the year.
And now that they're all the way back,
being the powerful Phillies,
it tees up for just
an incredible, incredible series
with incredible fan bases
that our live streams
have been electric, shelfy going yesterday,
Jolly going yesterday.
Jerry Seinfeld following Shay Station,
whoops, sorry about that.
I didn't see that, that's hilarious.
John Mayer.
You going back and forth to the different rooms,
just getting your pleasure.
Just helps.
Seems like something you've done before.
And then I joined the streams.
that, yeah, I, dude, no one out of the bullpen is safe.
Hey, kudos to Jeff Hoffman in hindsight, who comes in for that final out in the ninth,
that if that goes a little differently.
But, I mean, Strom gets teed up again.
Kirkering gets got Ruiz, Diaz, McGill.
Like, nobody is safe.
That Sanchez, I mean, he goes five innings, and his only mistake is the Viantos ball.
So there's just so much good talent all over the field.
I think that's the thing with the Mets.
Like there's been this whole like, oh, the Miracle Mets and the late inning stuff
and the Mets are the Mets and they had it.
Like, dude, their lineup right now is stacked.
Like Alvarez is a threat in the eight hole at any moment.
J.D. Martinez and Jose Iglesias with this old man miracle crew
in the middle of the lineup.
God, so good.
Yeah, I mean, if you look at the Phillies middle lineup
2 through 5, went 8 for 16 during this game.
I mean, that's how you're, that's,
that's Philly's recipe for success right there.
Speaking of, you know, the Mets,
I think everyone always gives credit,
you know, it's Francisco Lindor, MVP season.
Awesome.
It's these stupid antidotes, you know, grimace or Hock Tua,
say Hock Tua.
No, come on.
Come on.
Give the people what they want.
It's actually been a little bit too,
a little bit too forward of an episode.
We need to tone it down.
Yeah, but what I look at when I see this Mets lineup
and the reason I feel like they've had this massive turnaround
is the emergence of Mark Vientos.
It is the fact that they got this crazy season
out of Jose Iglesias.
And the numbers right now in the postseason for him aren't great,
but he's going to give you good at bats.
He's going to play solid defense out there.
He is going to lengthen the lineup up.
And you mentioned, yeah, you know, J.D. Martinez,
Francis Grauvers has been in the nine hole, a bunch of games.
He's a threat to go yard at any given time.
The length is there.
So I think, you know, him, the emergence of Shamaniah,
like there's so many things that go into this Mets team
that make them good.
And now you pair all of that, Jake,
with their ability to come back in these late innings.
And now it's not funny or it's not like,
oh my gosh, they did it once.
It's like they have that mentality now.
And all of a sudden, that's a powerful thing, dude.
If you believe that you can do it
and you've done it before so there's a track record,
you go up there with that confidence,
like, oh, it's going to happen again.
I'm telling you, I don't know if you can quantify it,
but you know what we do.
We do vibes here.
That, there is something to be said about actually,
you could fake confidence, dude,
and baseball players have to learn how to do that
specifically on the offensive side of the ball.
But when you have a track record to back it up as well,
it's a totally different thing.
You show up to the park knowing
it don't matter innings 1 through 6.
Let's go try to get a lead.
But even if we're behind, we've done it before.
And against the best of the best.
That's why this series to me, now both teams have done it against the ball.
This series to me could go anyway.
It's both the games, both these series that we're talking about today in the National League,
I think are some of the best baseball we're going to see in a long time.
Yeah, I mean, it's a best of three now.
And we'll head to City for two and then probably Philly for one.
We'll see.
Yeah, it is funny looking at the box score.
A Mets team that put up six runs in this game,
they did go 0 for seven with runners in scoring position.
That's always significant.
And yet, I mean, Stott, you know,
it was funny hearing Shelfi talk about Stott because in my head,
Bryson Stott, like four war,
Bryson Stott, going to play great defense,
going to give you some good at bats, speed,
all of that. And
the way Shelfy and I think a lot of Philly fans
have been talking about, he lost
just a little of that at the plate
at least, that he
wasn't viewed in the same crop
as those other guys. And not a lot of
people in baseball are compared to
Schwab or Turner, Harper, Cassiano's,
etc.
So that triple
just massive for him. He is
now considered as much of a threat as anyone the rest of the way or a guy you don't want to see
in the box.
Philly, they've got some interesting stuff going on.
Sosa, Bome, you know, Sosa gets the nod in this game.
Boom comes in for the pitch hit.
First pitch swinging pop-up, which like that, that just feels awful.
I know, you know, if Bome hits that in the stands, you say, what?
Look at him.
Jump in the heater.
But he pops it up and you're like, this guy's ass.
He put a good swing on it, man.
He's one click away right there.
He really was.
Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how Rob Thompson handles this.
I'm assuming with Mania,
Baum will be at third base,
Sosa will probably be at second base
and Stott will be off the bench.
I'm assuming that's what happens.
But you do have to, as a manager,
understand, like, you need Bome.
You can't just, like,
he can't just be out of the freaking lineup.
You need to get him feeling right.
So you have to instill confidence in some way.
You have to figure that out.
I don't think it's a huge problem,
but obviously something that he has to think about.
I mentioned all the relievers getting hit.
Big Carlos Estevez, reminder listed 6-6-277.
He comes in and he is clean for an inning,
and this is the guy they went out and got at the deadline.
He's kind of been there closer.
Let's check that out as it goes.
And, man, I don't know.
Sometimes I think it's dumb as a fan,
but the emotion, Bryce Harper,
plays with I it's it's so it's the best it's the best and it helps be in the best I was laughing I was
listened to uh Ryan Rissillo and Chris Long you've got a lot of Chris Long in your game you're kind of
you guys might be MLB and NFL's versions of each other um but they were laughing about
tunnel guy aka when you're if you're coming out to play a football guy in the third string guy
that's not going to play who's just going nuts in the tunnel and freaking out.
And it's like, hey, dude.
Like some of us actually have to go out here and do it.
Something about Bryce Harper being the guy going out and doing it and playing with that emotion.
While just being fresh to death, man, I know we've talked about it.
But that, how that beard, the outfits, all of it.
Like, that's, it's all so clean with just the emotion you dream about.
I like Chris Long.
I just looked up who Chris Long was.
know who he is. Yeah. I like that comparison more than anything you ever give me. That's nice.
Yeah, I'll, I'll send you, they did a live show together and he was, he, he was kind of in,
in full, well, I guess a TBT to Trev mode. I think he was pretty, pretty stony,
baloney late night Treve. Oh, I'm out. I'm just, you're not, you know, clean, I'm clean living.
For the most part. You mentioned the next game, and it's, again, it's maybe where there's some Philly,
It's where maybe the Phillies are at, I don't want to say ahead of the game,
but, well, they have a lot of tools that put them ahead of the game.
But now having Aaron Nola lined up for game three in his playoff resume,
going against Sean Maniah, who's the Mets won right now,
as it flips back to City on Tuesday night,
that environment is just going to be so electric.
Both teams feel set up.
Like you're going to have.
have your bullpen rested for a day.
You kind of got your guy on the mound.
I don't even know.
What else needs to be set up by us?
Well, I mean, NOLUS had a lot of success at City Field.
He's pitched really well there.
And he's a guy that's kind of like unflappable, I would say.
So you get put into a big situation.
You know, Mets fans haven't had a home game in how long?
I believe they played 11 straight road games.
I don't know what number of.
days that is.
I'm assuming that place is going to be absolutely nuts.
But a guy like Aaron-No, like I said, slow heartbeat guys, had success there.
I think, you know, Phillies have to feel good about having him on the mound.
And if you're the Mets, you're like, well, what about us, too?
Shamanai has been great.
I think he had one blow-up start against the Phillies.
He had three starts against them.
Two are quality starts, one blow-up start.
He's a completely different pitcher than he has been in years past.
But the lower arm slot, he just found himself, which is awesome.
I don't know who, like if you're handicapping this series,
I don't know how to do it.
I don't know who's ahead right now.
I really don't.
I mean, I think you give us some advantage for the Mets being at home the next two days.
But this is such a, it's been back and forth.
It's been answer innings.
It's been, you know, teams getting to the other bullpen.
It's, they, this could go either way, which is,
Again, I have no problem saying that.
I think some people want us to come out and say,
Philly's going to do this or the Mets are going to do this.
It's like, no, dude, I have no idea.
And neither do you.
And that's the beauty of good playoff matchups.
It's like, we'll see.
Who steps up, dude?
Like, who's going to be the guy?
Vientos Dotti stepped up right there at the end of the game,
ties it up, brings some momentum back,
and the Philly snatch it again because we got Nick Cassiano's doing his thing.
So it's, it almost seems like, how with this?
Here's some analysis for you.
Last person with the ball in their hands.
It's going to win the game.
We see that a lot in sports.
Home team.
So maybe I'll give it,
maybe I'll give a little edge to the match,
just because they have last events.
Yeah, I guess my only current lean would be Philly
just because like, okay, you can exhale after last game.
If you go down to, whoa, whoa.
I don't think anyone,
in their lineup, mine's being the bad guy.
Like, I think a lot of them even enjoy being the bad guy.
Castellanos, Harper, Schwartz.
And, you know, what you're saying is they essentially,
they have to split because get it back to Philly,
home team, blah, blah, blah.
The game three, obviously so massive,
because like I've alluded to this whole division series,
with this current format, if the Mets do win,
They take down Nola.
Now you got one game at home that you could end their season.
And we've seen Philly do this a couple times to the Braves,
that it's just going to make the place that more raucous.
Rockus.
God.
And yeah, hey, shout out.
Shout out to our listeners.
And shout out to you, Trevor.
Because I remember, I think we did all JM team in August.
And we got a lot of chirp back on No Vient.
And we were like, well, the games are pretty short.
Matt Chapman did end up putting up like a seven and a half war season.
Fiantos in 111 games, 27 homers.
Like, this guy is now a real cornerstone piece for the Mets.
Exciting.
Why did you give me credit there?
Because you shouted him out too.
You were like, hey, this dude is, this dude is real.
Like I think before that episode, you were like, you know, this isn't a two-week
Corona Extra guy.
No, he looks real at the plate.
He does.
The ability to drive the ball to all fields is something that you have to have in this league.
And especially if you want to be kind of like a top of the order, middle of the older guy.
He's shown the ability to do that, man.
Oppohomer and then he takes an up and away fastball.
I let out the major league line too high when it got hit.
3-2 against Strom
who go check out his numbers on the year
You pointed to this guy didn't you
I didn't point to this guy I just said too high
But damn
You know what that is right there
That swing that is just straight adrenaline
Dude
He doesn't hit that ball out in the regular season
But they are so fired up right now
A little extra swing juice
Yeah a little extra juice man
And hey

Today, maybe go to Kansas City, maybe Detroit, Cleveland.
But first, we have to talk about the ploof bowl last night.
My goodness.
Dodgers, hoping to make it a dark night for Padres fans with our guy,
Jack Flaherty, trying to give them a 2-0 series lead over the Padres.
But the Dodgers weren't fucking with you,
as Darvish would twirl it and look good for San Diego.
Fernando Mania Part 2, not as fun for Dodgers fans.
Tatis into the seats
and in
bottom one
his name is
Muky Betts
but his name is
Jurexen
looking like an old
Western film
with a robbery
and then a freight train
in the second
Choochoo!
David Peralta
two run Homer
it's three nothing
fathers
Lux's sack fly
but unfortunately
that was it
seven innings
one
earn run from Darvish. A lot of defensive plays. Swing away, Merrill. RBI single for the kid,
and then a two run homer for the kid. Sorry, Miss Jackson, this kid's full real. Bogart,
Higgy, and Fernando. Homers again, Dodgers fans, trash their own field and get trashed by
San Diego 10-2 final. That was good. I like the, I like the robbery.
I like western flicks.
I'm a sucker for him.
The Wild Wild West dude.
Yeah.
Just go get your land.
If you like rob someone,
you rob someone properly,
it's kind of okay.
Just put like literally a steak in the ground.
It's like,
this is my land.
I live here.
You can kind of do that now, dude.
I'm telling you,
I've been hearing these stories
about these squatters.
Do you know that, okay,
just real quick.
Someone squats in your house.
So you have a, you know,
a rental and some of,
the renter just says, I'm not leaving.
I can't really get them out.
There's things called like squatting the squatter.
You can hire someone to out squat the squatter.
So if the squatter leaves, this guy goes in for you.
And it's like, I'm not leaving.
I feel like that would be a good job.
It's crazy.
Whatever.
We got to talk about the game.
I just.
No, it's, it's an informative show.
We list the show.
We list the show as a political informational show.
that features some baseball.
Trev, another electric atmosphere,
probably too electric.
Like, Dodgers fans, come on.
I mean, hey, my Yankee fans, we've had some situations,
and it's usually a few bad eggs, but like, I don't know,
you kind of got to stop the bad eggs.
Because now we're talking about that instead of electric baseball.
If you want to start there, we can start there.
That's fine.
Why I'm wearing these shades, it is a little too hot in the streets out here in Los Angeles.
Yeah, obviously, you can't throw shit on the field.
That's just rule number one.
You can talk, you can say whatever you want, which, you know, obviously what's happening last night
and Fernando and ProFar going back and forth.
Like some people will point to that, well, they were egging the crowd on.
It's like, no, they're giving the crowd exactly what they want to.
Anybody yelling at a player, the number one thing they want is for the player to be like,
acknowledge them and and do the back and forth. That's great. I mean, I think I have no problem
with what Fernando and ProFar were doing. Okay. I don't. I think that's, dude, have you ever been out
in a hostile environment where you're just out on an island and everyone's yelling at you, dude?
I always just was like, I'm not going to say anything to them. I'm not going to say anything to
them. Not trying to rattle them up, but, you know, there's other ways to play it, man. And if you
draw energy from that and you're on the field and once again, I've said it on the show a million
times. Say it again, we are in the entertainment business people. Like that's fun, man.
Like if nothing gets thrown on the field, we are talking about, dude, how awesome is it them
interacting with the fans and the fans going back and forth? It's the atmosphere that we want.
You just can't be throwing stuff. And I will say, as I talked about this with Chris Rose. The first thing
that was thrown was the ball that ProFar gave to the guy that he robbed the home run right in front of.
Number one, that guy's got to get in ProFar's way.
That's the job of a fan on that home run.
That's the truth, man.
Kind of right.
That's in the stance.
That's your territory.
Yankee fans know that.
What's the guy's name?
Michael, he's famous.
Yeah.
Michael.
Whatever.
Is that not his name?
Jeffrey Mayor.
Jeffrey Mayer.
Yeah.
See, you know.
Michael Myers, October.
Yeah.
So Profar goes on, gives that guy a ball.
I don't know what he said.
He gave him a ball, though.
The guy's got his son right next to him.
And then this guy throws the ball back.
I actually do not have a problem with this
other than the fact that he probably should have
to give the ball to his son.
That's the only problem I have with it.
I don't mind him throwing the ball back on the field
because it's very similar to me as throwing a home run back on the field.
I think that's stupid as well.
I think it's dumb, but I don't have a problem with it.
If you want to do that, go ahead and do it.
So I didn't have a problem with that.
It was everything that came after that.
Another ball gets thrown at pro far.
Stuff is getting thrown into the Padres bullpen.
Beer is getting thrown at Fernando.
There's just no place for that.
And it doesn't just happen in L.A., man.
Right.
Like this happens, it's happened in San Diego.
It's happened everywhere.
Dodgers fans do have, you know,
there's some black marks against stuff that's happened in the parking lot.
I think there was another fight last night.
Like, got to just kind of keep it as entertainment.
man let's not take it overboard um i don't know yeah here's the bullpen stuff you know i don't know
what gets thrown there it looks like some sort of like souvenir cup or something you just can't do
that man you can't you can't cross that line and again yeah we're starting this beautiful series off
talking about you know this because it's at the forefront of everyone's mind and we really should be
talking about the baseball and the players yelling at each other because i think that was probably a little bit
more of what we want.
Well, and this, this usually happens.
Oh, Fernando, that tongue.
Bieber is we're going to get a strike on YouTube now.
Thanks for that.
Demonitized.
Show that again.
Just one more.
That usually, this usually happens.
Oh, man, that tongue.
This usually happens in a losing situation, which makes it feel even worse.
Like, you're just embarrassing yourself.
Good point.
Good point.
getting into the ball a little bit,
and Trev, I guess, you know, we can,
I think it starts with Fernando,
who started the first inning with a homer.
Okay, Dodger fans, let's make this even worse for you.
Clay and Kirscho, we've done the mental exercise a lot.
He's the pitcher of our generation.
For some reason, he kind of doesn't get the respect.
Part of that is some of the postseason stuff.
I think that's a fair statement,
whether you think that's fair or not.
Fernando, if we guys do get judged more by the postseason.
And Fernando is currently in 45 plate appearances.
Yes.
444-556, a 1.528 OPS.
So yeah, he's going to wag that tongue at you.
And he's going to put fake tears on his face because he's,
he's that guy and he knows he's that guy.
So per a lot of kind of the, it is a little bit of a corny baseball thing, but get him out and he won't, he won't wag his tongue at you.
He won't do the fake tears.
He'll be out.
But he sets the tone in this game with the lead off Homer in the first inning.
David Peralta, who man, he has been, you know, he had a really tough start to the season.
And he had been a really good ball player, 750 OPS on the season after a slow start for him.
37-year-old David Peralta still bringing the noise and hitting NL West playoff homers.
Makes it 3-0, and this is where things start to get off the off-kilter a little bit
because Jack hits Fernando, you know, interested to get your thoughts on that.
Dave Roberts doesn't like it.
Manny's talking.
There's a lot of why would we do that?
It's a playoff game.
Jack tells Manny a couple kind words after dialing it up to 95 and punching him out.
I know there's a lot of lip reading at this coming.
I can't make out what he's saying.
But so, yeah, I don't know.
Teed up a lot there.
So you cook.
Yeah, stop talking, bro.
I think a lot of people are coming here because I've gotten this on my socials.
What are you going to say about your boy, J. Flair?
What are you going to say you always talk about starting pitchers?
What are you going to say?
I'm going to say this.
it was an emotional game.
And this is a playoff game.
People, this isn't April.
This isn't, you know, the middle of June.
Like, this is a playoff game.
You saw the atmosphere in that stadium.
I mean, emotions were running very high.
You talked about it at the game.
He's like, dude, it's a big moment.
Like, I don't think he wanted to say that.
Like, I know Jack.
I don't think he wanted to say, sit down.
I do lip read.
I actually tell John Boy what everything.
Yeah, that's true.
People don't know that.
People don't know that.
Actually, I'm like,
The Wizard of Oz, the guy behind the curtain.
That's silly.
That was a stupid thing I just said.
I don't think he'd like want to do that again.
But emotions are running high and there's some stuff.
Apparently, Mani threw a ball at the dugout.
And Mani said, hey, I throw balls in the dugout all the time.
That's where the ball boy is and you just toss him in there.
I've heard it was a little aggressive.
an egregious ball toss at the Dodgers dugout.
Now, somebody does that to your team.
You're going to stick up.
And that's when at the end of that kind of like back and forth,
you see Jack on the top step of the dugout,
manny at their base in their jaw on back and forth.
He goes, Jack said after the game,
we only saw that, but we didn't see it right here.
We didn't see the ball being thrown into the dugout.
So I don't know.
We don't have cameras on it.
Jack said they did catch it on their cameras.
And he goes, I wish everyone could see it.
here's what I'll say to end all this.
I love this, dude.
Are you kidding me?
Right.
Isn't this what you want in your rivalries
and your playoff baseball?
Yeah, Jack struck him out.
He told him to sit down.
You know, Machado's getting the last laugh
because they won the game.
Fernando's wagging his tongue at the crowd.
Like, this is real deal tension and emotion
and we're getting that out of our players.
Stop showing that.
Gosh.
I just think, you know, people are going to point, oh, you know, the Dodgers lost and Jack, you know, gave up four runs and he's talking like that.
I think he's emotional.
I think that he's sticking up for his team.
And I have no problem with what Manny did, or what Fernando did, or what Jack did, any of that, dude.
Like, this is what we want in our baseball.
Like, this is, how excited are you for the next game in San Diego?
I mean, that...
Well, there'll be no Dodger fans.
Yeah, I don't, I don't like...
I don't like doing apples and oranges,
and there's been a lot of talk about the broadcast
and how they do the crowd volume and that kind of stuff.
San Diego on Tuesday night is going to be able to go toe to toe
with any environment we've seen.
I mean, fan bases that do not like each other.
Fan base, I mean, there's a little big brother,
little brother here.
Like, I think San Diego would be honest about that.
And little bro has a chance.
Oh, my gosh, they do.
It's going to be a scene, an absolute scene.
A few other things that need to be, you know,
we showed it on here a couple times,
and make sure you guys check out the YouTube and subscribe
and all that stuff.
It helps out.
A, pro far pimping the robbery.
I mean, that matters.
Like, that's one of the most craziest things in,
baseball. The announcers didn't know if that's up. He was running around the basis.
If that's a home run from Mookie Betts or not. And Mookie Betts deserves a note here because a stat I saw
in the interstate yesterday. Mookie Betz, oh for his last 20? Might be O for his last 22 postseason
at Bats. So there's something there where he almost has a home run that we'd be talking about
something totally different. And then, yeah, I mean,
some good defense. Jackson Merrill makes a great play. Tell them Padre fans.
That's just every game.
They played great defense.
A line out to first with the base is hucked.
This game could have went very differently, but it did not.
Tatis, you know, goes into the gap and runs one down.
I mean, no, this was the baseball here, you know, got away from the Dodgers at the end there.
You know, as Fernando's wagging his tongue.
Don't show it again. Don't you dare.
I have a few thoughts on, you know, the actual baseball aspect of it.
Love that.
Thank you.
I feel, I said this to Chris Rose.
I feel like San Diego has to feel good about having guys that can neutralize basically what is L.A.'s
Biggest strength in that show, Hey, Otani.
Like Tanner Scott coming in, and I think he's got O for 2, 2Ks now, I believe, against Oatani at one
for 12 now lifetime,
that's a guy that you can go to
in a situation where Otani's up
and you know,
you need to get them out.
You have guys that can do it.
Jason Adam did it as well.
You know, Adrian Morahone did it as well
or broke his bat.
But I think if you have Scott and Adam
and you can bring them in
in any situation that arises
and say, hey, the rest of you guys beat us,
Freddie Freeman, we don't know if he's going to play.
Like, if you're a Padres fan,
you've got to be feeling really,
good about where your team is at right now.
You get
Higgy homers again.
Oops. Watch out for that cat.
Bogarts
enters the party. Like this postseason
has been a little bit of a reminder of
like, you know, he had a down year
this year, but the postseason can change
quickly that if he's going to
be a part of it, that makes San Diego
that much tougher
of an out.
Muncie homers late. Dodger fans
hoping maybe they can build on
something there.
And the other thing I want to get out there,
Mani Machado, he pulls the mid-game player-only meeting,
rarely seen.
But when you got stuff getting thrown on the field and the game's getting hot,
rivalry game, man, I just want to put it out there.
Man, he's 32 now.
A lot of people still have...
He's 32?
Right?
A lot of people have grind.
with Manny Machado, the 21-year-old that was, you know, doing some tough junk on the Orioles,
but he was also a kid.
A lot of people do dumb stuff when they're 20, 21, 22, 34 for me.
I don't know, man.
I just, I don't want to, as we always do, I don't want to turn into a race thing.
But we need to respect Manny Machado more.
Like, he's the leader of this team.
and if this was Bryce Harper or Real Mudo
or whoever your team's guy is,
we'd be like, man, look at this guy, leading his boys.
Like, that's sick, dude.
Again, it wouldn't matter if the Padres lost this game
and we're like, hey, sick players only meeting in the middle of the game.
But they didn't.
They won it.
And they got out of Dodger territory with a couple tonguewags
and keeping their head up high that, I don't know,
I think Mani Machado
Just dude, every
You know, I bumped into him at a snakes game
He came up, what up, how you doing?
Like it like this guy just deserves more respect
On every front like I think third base wise
He got slightly overshadowed by Nolan for a little bit
Or at least it was a conversation
Like this this guy's an all time player
And I think he's like an all time like leader
He's definitely turned into that
And I don't know why you brought the race card in here bro.
Always, please.
You just got to do it?
I don't know.
I think that I love the meeting.
Excuse me.
I love the meeting.
And I think, you know, emotions were running very, very high at that time.
And I'll pose this to you.
Do you think he called that almost as much for himself as anybody?
Like sometimes you're like, yeah, I need to calm down and, hey, let's get everyone together.
But to have the wherewithal to do it during the game like that, I think is really important.
And I did think, I do think that'll end up being important.
I do think he is underrated as a leader.
I do think he's probably underrated as a player.
He's going to be a Hall of Famer.
Like this, we've talked about Manny and his leadership and his views, his stance around the league.
I mean, he's got the respect of most of the guys in the league, if not all of them,
for what he's done on the field and, you know, his play and, you know, his ability to mature into what he's become.
I mean, he's a guy guy, man.
So it was tough for me.
When I saw Jack and him going at it,
I was like, this is interesting, man.
I think Jack deserves a lot of respect.
And I think Mani deserves a lot of respect.
And I think, I think similar to who got in a,
it was a Winker and Adomis and Jack and Mani.
I think like, man, today if they saw each other,
they're like, all right, what's up, dude?
I was going to say after the series maybe,
just in case we're at that level.
But, yeah, I mean, knowing Jack a little bit,
Um, a brief, brief interaction with Manny.
I, I think after this series, those guys would be like, I love playing against you, bro.
Like, I love that.
You know?
In the VIP section of the club.
Yeah, 100%.
Hey, let's order some like really expensive bottles.
I got you.
No, no, no, no, no.
I got you, bro.
I let Manny pay.
Until this off season.
Go.
Because I think Flaherty gets also a bad rap because, you know, he does, he does get
emotional and, you know, people are going to point to the fact, again, that he was losing when
this all happened and go listen to his postgame interview and listen to him talk about it then.
I think, you know, you get, that's when you get context about how guys were feeling. Again,
there's no other place to get a higher emotional level than what's happening in front of our
eyes with all these cameras in the baseball field. So, you know, he talks about, say, I'm not, I didn't
try to hit Tatis.
I was trying to go in there.
And, you know, like,
so that shouldn't have started anything.
Like, he hit a batter.
That happens.
He didn't go up at his neck.
It wasn't intentional.
I don't think it was intentional.
I think he was like,
I'm not leaving a ball over the plate again
against this guy because he hit one to freaking Pasadena.
That's the 134, I think.
Okay.
I think I'd like it out there.
Pasadena?
It's like old money.
So you'd fit in perfect.
Connecticut to Pasadena is the ultimate, yeah.
What are your Upper East Side now?
Oh my gosh, you are old money.
Golden doodle, yeah.
Yeah, it's, we need like a baseball term for it.
Like, okay, think of Jack Flaherty's options.
I'm going to throw inside to Fernando.
If I come more inside, it might hit him.
Or if I miss over the plate, he might hit it a mile.
Like, so when you're doing your risk analysis as a pitcher,
it's an easy decision.
Yeah.
Yeah, I know.
There's a lot, I mean, a lot of stuff happened.
You know, obviously a lot of good baseball happened.
Jackson Merrill, bro.
Yeah, I was just going to say, go look at Jackson Merrill's.
Team meeting in the Padres Dodgers series where people are throwing shit on the field.
Let me go left center field at Dodger Stadium.
He's a sicko.
If you watch that, Beavers pull that back up if you can.
Watch, okay, watch the Homer first.
That's beautiful.
you can pull the meeting back up.
He's kind of up in the corner
and be like, what are we, I'm good, dude.
I'm about to hit a Homer.
Can we wrap this up?
You can see it in his face, man.
Like he's unfazed.
I think, it's like,
I even think,
let's see if we can see him.
There he is.
He's up there.
Like, all right, dude,
what are we doing here?
I'm calling a meeting right now.
I think that he's,
and I don't know him at all,
but the feeling that I have watching him interact
with like Tatis out there in the outfit.
I feel like Tatis is like bringing something out of him
that maybe he didn't know that he had.
As far as like,
I don't want to use the word swag.
I don't want to use that word.
Like he's bringing that exuberance out of him
and saying like, use this.
Because there are times where he like,
he'll make a catch and he looks straight to Tatis.
And Tatis is going freaking nuts.
And like they have these moments together.
I'm sure Padre's fans have seen him quite a bit throughout.
the year. I think that he's getting exactly what he needs as far as leadership there. So a couple
guys bringing him up being like, dude, you're a star, like act like it, be that guy. Then I think he's got
I think shilt. And I think, you know, at times, Machado's probably said, hey, man, like get to work,
do these things. This is what you got to do. So he's getting it from from both sides. You love that.
And he is, I mean, he's turning into a superstar, man, right in front of our eyes.
Well, I think the way I would summarize that is when you called up in earlier baseball,
it was kind of like, rookie proved to us you deserve to be here.
I think this Padres team is like, you're up here.
That means you deserve to be here.
Like, let's go.
And that's what Jackson Merrill has been all year.
And Trev, this tease up, oh, Michael King versus Walker Bueller in San Diego.
Let's see what Moxie King Walker Bueller is going to be able to bring out
As he's had a couple
He's shown some signs of getting to where he needs to be
But either way against where this Padres team is
And where he's at, we're going to be hunting Moxie out
And Michael King
With a start to make him like a star of this postseason
It's hard for me not to lean San Diego in the rest of this series
I mean, we knew the Dodgers starting pitching
was going to be an issue here.
They just don't have it right now.
And the Padres do have that.
And they also have the arms in the bullpen.
So if the Dodgers are going to win this series,
Muki and Shohei and Teosker,
they're going to have to absolutely slug their way to it.
And we just talked about how they kind of have
a Shohei neutralizer.
I say that now.
And I'm sure you can, Dodgers fans might clip
this later on when show a hits a freaking six run homer because he's that guy obviously we know that
people um but it's hard for me to sit here and think that the podres aren't favorites the rest of the
way here i think i agree with you when i think about the ds torture chamber a little bit like the
padres have the leg up in that game three like michael king what he just showed us and what i think
he's going to show us again uh that doesn't mean he's not going to get clipped by any of those
inner circle Hall of Fame players.
But Michael King's going to give a hell of an effort.
I think Bueller will, and he'll also have a short leash,
but that's where things get scary for the Dodgers
because if they expose their bullpen in game three
or they don't get it done, game four,
I think Landon Nack would currently be the starter,
which, you know, all hands on deck,
keep your season on the line,
and it's, you know, can try and give you another 39 Phillips, Hudson,
Copac, Vessi, like, they can.
They can connect that.
But if they go in
and they get it done,
game three, Michael King looks good,
the Padres are good, that places bananas,
I don't think they're going to let them out
of game four, but that's
where you've never been able to predict baseball.
So why bother?
Those are going to be fun.
Treve, you got any?
I mean, we kind of already did.
it, but we've got a guard dog,
guard dog's tigers draw the 4 p.m. slate.
Kind of tough.
Yeah.
Bad shadow, bad shadows there.
You want to sprinkle a little bit on the drafting sportsbook.
I'd take the over on K's.
Scoobel.
Because you got scoobes going there.
And I'm sure Matthew Boyd will probably have his career high in strikeouts.
So the shadows are no joke, man.
Yeah.
They change the game.
I think this is obviously a must win for Detroit.
Yes.
They have to feel pretty good about having scobs on the mound,
having it for two and five.
So if they can get this win, get back to Detroit,
I think they'll be playing with house money.
It'll be interesting to see.
I think these two teams are very, very similar,
you know, with how they approach pitching.
I think the lineups are similar.
The bullpins are, I mean, Detroit has found their way in the bullpen.
They're going up against the class,
the class of bullpens.
What am I trying to say?
The class A of bullpins?
Yeah, whatever.
They're very similar.
I think it's going to be a great game.
What do you got, Royals?
You got Regans versus Rodon, two lefties.
Yeah, a little.
You talked about the Yankees struggling against lefties.
It'll be interesting.
These series to me, I feel bad saying this.
They just don't have the intrigue as the National League series.
Maybe that's because it's the rivals, cities going at it.
Yeah, I mean, I don't think they have the intrigue yet.
Like, you know, if Bobby Whitts,
puts on a show tonight and Cole Riggins shuts down the yanks.
I think that series is going to have the allure.
I don't.
I don't.
I think if Scoobel, like dude, Tiger Mania got put on pause for five days.
Like the Tigers were kind of the story.
They took out the Astros.
Then they got shut out in that 1 p.m. Cleveland game and everyone's like,
oh, Tiger Mania's over.
If they win and Scoobel's the guy, Tiger Mania is going to be full tilt back on.
So what you're saying has some truth to it.
I think you mentioned in that let's see what Cole Riggins has
and he could shut down the Yanks and it could be a scary night
and then 48 hours for Yankee fans.
Let's see what Rodon, who's wanted this start
ever since his really bad last year.
The other thing that I might do, and I never really do this
and I don't want people spending their money on my accrues.
I think I might just bet one nothing in the Cleveland Detroit game, both sides.
And I think that that leads to a decent payout because I think that's what we're getting.
Like, I think we're going to get the, yeah, shadows, dude, and scoble.
Like, no way, man.
Yeah, it's going to be, it's going to be.
Jason Kipness in the stands, I bet, you know.
You think so?
I think Kip Daddy will be there.
I think he might be doing some radio.
Did I see that?
I don't know.
Maybe that was just during the year.
Love you and Kip.
Hey, let's have another night.
We're going to be live streaming.
We're going to be live streaming the Yankees game on Talking Yanks.
It's very Yankees-centric, so be ready for that.
We record tonight.
Oh, burped.
Subscribe.
You're doing Talking Yanks.
Talking Yanks, talking baseball.
And then I'll be baseball.
Whop, Savages.
My guys are savages in that box.
It's a wild one.
Thank you.
